- 0:03Speaker 1: For those of you that thought we were going to
- 0:06Speaker 1: start today's show with CBA talks in a labor battle,
- 0:12Speaker 1: you're kind of right, but you're kind of wrong, mostly wrong.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We're not going to do a whole segment on it
- 0:17Speaker 1: until later in the show. For a couple of reasons.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We're going to take you behind the curtain. Number One,
- 0:21Speaker 1: David Samson will join us. We enjoy those combos, so
- 0:25Speaker 1: we'll talk to him about slicing and dicing the player proposal.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Number two. AJ We're in one of those weird news
- 0:32Speaker 1: situations where many people will listen to this and by
- 0:35Speaker 1: the time they do, the MLB proposal will come out.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We already know what it's going to say. I mean,
- 0:39Speaker 1: this is the whole cap battle, and there's many other components,
- 0:43Speaker 1: but they're smaller in terms of what really matters to fans,
- 0:47Speaker 1: League minimum, how revenue is being shared, stuff like that.
- 0:51Speaker 1: But the big battle will continue today, so we'll talk
- 0:54Speaker 1: about that a little bit later. There will be a
- 0:56Speaker 1: contingent of people that listen to that Samson conversation and
- 1:01Speaker 1: that will come out on the audio side for our
- 1:03Speaker 1: podcast listeners, probably tomorrow. So to just get a couple
- 1:07Speaker 1: of minutes in here at the top. Your thoughts on
- 1:09Speaker 1: the battle beginning nice and early. You know, last time,
- 1:14Speaker 1: the PA came out with their proposal AJ in May
- 1:17Speaker 1: of twenty twenty one, and then the league didn't respond
- 1:20Speaker 1: with the proposal until August. This time, they lined it
- 1:23Speaker 1: up one day then the next day is the other side,
- 1:26Speaker 1: which is cute. I mean, most of this isn't going
- 1:28Speaker 1: to actually turn into anything. They're just going to battle
- 1:30Speaker 1: for six months, but it's at least a little friendlier
- 1:33Speaker 1: to see this.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, at least they're trying early. I mean, that's not
- 1:37Speaker 2: going to do anything. It'll still have to come down
- 1:39Speaker 2: to December whenever the if something happens, I mean the
- 1:42Speaker 2: owners as soon as I'm assuming as soon as the
- 1:46Speaker 2: whenever they can lock them out, they will, So that's
- 1:49Speaker 2: gonna happen. But it's nice to see them starting. I
- 1:52Speaker 2: saw some of the proposals. I saw the proposal from
- 1:55Speaker 2: the PA yesterday, and I understand exactly what they're trying
- 1:58Speaker 2: to get done. And then we'll then today though, the
- 2:01Speaker 2: owners will come back and say, oh, everything you said
- 2:03Speaker 2: is wrong and we want the complete opposite. We need
- 2:06Speaker 2: a salary cap at one hundred million and this and that.
- 2:09Speaker 2: So it's all just positioning until they actually have to
- 2:13Speaker 2: do something. I just wish they could get something done
- 2:15Speaker 2: before we have to go through all the questions about
- 2:18Speaker 2: labor stopage December.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Can you imagine grats that they actually got stuff done
- 2:25Speaker 1: in December? Zero percent chance. I'll do something crazy on
- 2:31Speaker 1: the show. If they get something done and.
- 2:33Speaker 2: They come back, If they come back with a proposal
- 2:36Speaker 2: today or a counter proposal today, to me, we're ahead
- 2:40Speaker 2: of the game from where we were before, because before
- 2:42Speaker 2: the player said hey, we'll offer this and the owner
- 2:44Speaker 2: said that's cool, just crickets. So if they actually come
- 2:51Speaker 2: back with something to me, I think that's a helpful
- 2:54Speaker 2: narrative in the contract negotiations.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Sure, it's a nice formality. We're gonna dive into all
- 3:01Speaker 1: of the nitty gritty. There are a number of points
- 3:03Speaker 1: to go over, just on the player side, since we
- 3:05Speaker 1: don't have the league side in terms of some things
- 3:08Speaker 1: that they're looking for, and Samson's going to run through
- 3:11Speaker 1: it with us. We can do some debating, we can
- 3:14Speaker 1: do some digging into what really matters, but for now,
- 3:19Speaker 1: let's start with the best player of all times charge
- 3:25Speaker 1: that I mean it's getting ridiculous. Aja. The National League
- 3:30Speaker 1: sy Young race is going to be insane as good
- 3:33Speaker 1: as Shoho Tani has been. If he has one blit
- 3:35Speaker 1: or misses some starts, it's going to change the complexion
- 3:39Speaker 1: of the race. This is his key notch on his
- 3:42Speaker 1: belt that he's looking to accomplish this year. Six no
- 3:45Speaker 1: hit innings, homeward in his first ab again and was
- 3:48Speaker 1: pissed at himself for how many walks he had. That
- 3:51Speaker 1: is greatness, it is.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But I still don't think he's gonna win the so Young.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I think that there's too much competition in the National
- 3:58Speaker 2: League this year. I don't think he's gonna end up
- 4:00Speaker 2: with enough innings. I mean, yes, it's amazing what O'tani's doing,
- 4:02Speaker 2: But did you see what Christopher Sanchez didn't make. He
- 4:04Speaker 2: didn't give up a run the whole month of May, right,
- 4:07Speaker 2: Chris Sales right there? We know Skens is gonna figure
- 4:09Speaker 2: it out at some point. There's a bunch of candidates
- 4:12Speaker 2: this year in the National League. Is he gonna win
- 4:14Speaker 2: the MVP, Yes, he's gonna just go ahead and give
- 4:17Speaker 2: it to him. I mean he's not there's no one
- 4:18Speaker 2: that can beat him because he pitches and hits, and
- 4:20Speaker 2: everyone just looks at war. Well, you can't replace no
- 4:23Speaker 2: one's more valuable on a guy who pitches and hits,
- 4:26Speaker 2: so just give him the MVP. His numbers are unbelievable,
- 4:30Speaker 2: but I don't know that he gets over one hundred
- 4:32Speaker 2: and fifty innings, and that is a low threshold. Sanchez
- 4:35Speaker 2: keeps doing what he's doing for me, he's the favorite. Also,
- 4:37Speaker 2: I picked him before the year, so I'm hoping he wins.
- 4:41Speaker 2: And the Miss is definitely hitting. Even mention I didn't
- 4:45Speaker 2: even mention the Miss or Kyle Harrison. You can throw
- 4:47Speaker 2: both those guys in there, because strikeouts play, strikeouts play
- 4:51Speaker 2: Kyle Harrison, that's awesome, Like great the Miss. I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 2: he's twenty strikeouts ahead of the next person. Obviously we're
- 4:57Speaker 2: saying all of this for all these guys continues, it
- 5:01Speaker 2: will be the most fascinating race possible. Like people will
- 5:04Speaker 2: stop even looking to see who's gonna win the American
- 5:06Speaker 2: League because that league stinks, so you're gonna want to
- 5:09Speaker 2: see the National League sy Young race. And I agree
- 5:12Speaker 2: with AJ. I don't think Otani's got enough pitching wise
- 5:16Speaker 2: to do it. Maybe in another year he could. But again,
- 5:19Speaker 2: how are you gonna look away from a point nine
- 5:23Speaker 2: era if that's what he finishes at, well easy miz
- 5:26Speaker 2: might have two hundred and seventy strikeouts. Christopher Sanchez, if
- 5:30Speaker 2: we're going off the same apples to apples, isn't gonna
- 5:33Speaker 2: give a run up the rest of the year. I mean,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I guess it goes to Christopher Sanchez then, but it's
- 5:39Speaker 2: it is gonna be amazing. I just it's awesome to
- 5:42Speaker 2: see what he did. He went six to no hit.
- 5:45Speaker 2: He out hit the Rockies on his own through ninety
- 5:49Speaker 2: nine pitches by himself. He out hit the Rockies.
- 5:53Speaker 1: That's right. Well from his first a B he out
- 5:56Speaker 1: hit the Rockies. Keep this up for a moment too,
- 5:58Speaker 1: or let's go back to it. I just want to
- 5:59Speaker 1: read it everyone that's listening later on. So bet MGM futures.
- 6:04Speaker 1: These are the live odds for cy Young. You can
- 6:07Speaker 1: bet right now, and this is how they have it.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez plus one fifty, then the Miz at plus
- 6:15Speaker 1: two eighty, Schemes plus five hundred, Otani plus five point fifty,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and then Chris sale Over at plus eight hundred. We
- 6:22Speaker 1: spoke of a lot what yesterday about what Kyle Harrison's doing.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Chase Burns has been insane too, and we could show
- 6:29Speaker 1: that tweet Who's a nugget shell chef on Twitter? He said,
- 6:34Speaker 1: could be the greatest battle for NL Picture of the
- 6:37Speaker 1: Month in the history of the word. He said, it is,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I don't know or not really following the Picture of
- 6:42Speaker 1: the Month that closely, but it just shows how ridiculous
- 6:46Speaker 1: pictures in the National League have been. So he's got
- 6:49Speaker 1: Sanchez on there, who has no runs in thirty nine innings.
- 6:52Speaker 1: The streak's obviously longer because it's started before this month.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Miz at two nine, forty nine strikeouts and thirty one
- 6:58Speaker 1: and a third. OTANISRN is O nine to five, Kyle
- 7:01Speaker 1: Harrison oh nine six, Chase Burns one one nine and
- 7:04Speaker 1: for Cy young purposes, I just don't know if he's
- 7:06Speaker 1: gonna give an up innings to the Reds. He's young.
- 7:08Speaker 1: They're gonna keep track of that. And then Wheeler this
- 7:10Speaker 1: month is at one three eight a D. The National
- 7:15Speaker 1: League starting pitching is next level right now, and it's
- 7:19Speaker 1: not just the talent, it's that they're actually performing right
- 7:21Speaker 1: Like you mentioned Skeens, who you know, it's had a
- 7:23Speaker 1: couple for Skien's purposes, bad starts, and then he falls
- 7:27Speaker 1: way behind the ERA race just because of that.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, the National League is just better than the American League.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I don't know what else we can say. We keep
- 7:34Speaker 2: saying this over and over again, but the award's gonna
- 7:38Speaker 2: go to Christopher Sanchez. You go a whole month and
- 7:40Speaker 2: not give up a run, Guess what you're gonna win
- 7:42Speaker 2: Pitcher of the Month. I don't give a record or
- 7:44Speaker 2: Schmcker and it wins don't matter anymore. Remember, so he
- 7:46Speaker 2: went the whole month and didn't give up a run.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I mean, those other numbers are Gray four and oh
- 7:50Speaker 2: with a this and that record, and Otani with a
- 7:52Speaker 2: point ninety five. But if Christopher Sanchez doesn't win the
- 7:55Speaker 2: Pitcher of the Month in the NL, then I don't
- 7:56Speaker 2: know what the heck they're voting for. I mean, if
- 7:59Speaker 2: we bring that graphic up one last time of the
- 8:02Speaker 2: top five bet mgm odds there, what's the one thing
- 8:06Speaker 2: that all of them have in common. They're all playoff pitchers.
- 8:11Speaker 2: They're all teams that are in the playoffs. And this
- 8:13Speaker 2: is how this might be what ends up winning it.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Usually talking about MVP, but the Cy Young Award is
- 8:20Speaker 2: possibly the team that the guy that is on the
- 8:23Speaker 2: starting pitcher for teams that are pushing and ultimately make
- 8:28Speaker 2: the playoffs or even have the best record in the
- 8:30Speaker 2: National League.
- 8:33Speaker 1: It's getting hot out there, people. Let's talk Mack Weldon
- 8:36Speaker 1: Fashion show real quick. A's got the Pima crew neck
- 8:40Speaker 1: T shirt, frop heather cross heather.
- 8:43Speaker 2: It's it's got little pieces of gray heather in there.
- 8:45Speaker 2: It's nice, it's soft, it fits really well. It's great
- 8:49Speaker 2: for summer down here in Florida. And I got a
- 8:51Speaker 2: couple of linen shirts and linen pants that are gonna
- 8:54Speaker 2: look nice when I go to Europe here in a
- 8:56Speaker 2: couple of weeks. Very nice.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very smooth, very thin. I'm wearing the eighteen
- 9:01Speaker 1: hour jersey short and heather gray. I'll leave that down
- 9:04Speaker 1: here for you. And the Pema short sleeve Henley. The
- 9:07Speaker 1: color on mine is desert spring, but it really resonates it.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It fits in kind of matches with everything in the
- 9:15Speaker 1: wardrobe too. It's the classic look. They know what they're
- 9:18Speaker 1: doing here, so check it out. We've got the code
- 9:20Speaker 1: for you to get moving with Mack Weldon. Comfortable anywhere.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Go to mack Weldon dot com get twenty percent off
- 9:25Speaker 1: your first order of one hundred and twenty five bucks
- 9:27Speaker 1: or more with promo code foul. That's m A C
- 9:30Speaker 1: K W E L d O N dot com code foul.
- 9:36Speaker 1: So let me get this part straight. You think voters
- 9:39Speaker 1: are going to look at team performance for the Cy
- 9:42Speaker 1: Young Award.
- 9:44Speaker 2: No, I'm saying you pitched down the stretch, big innings
- 9:49Speaker 2: for your team. You're not just pitching. Oh great, you
- 9:53Speaker 2: know Paul Skeins is out of it, but he's got
- 9:54Speaker 2: a one nine to eight. I think if the Pirates
- 9:57Speaker 2: aren't in it and Paul Skeens has this similar number,
- 10:00Speaker 2: I think it's going to go to a guy like
- 10:01Speaker 2: Christopher Sanchez, who the Phillies are going to have to
- 10:04Speaker 2: push to get into the playoffs. I think it's going
- 10:07Speaker 2: to have to go to a guy whose team is
- 10:10Speaker 2: making that push for the playoffs.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I wasn't trying to belittle the point. I actually agree
- 10:14Speaker 1: with parts of this. If you are a pitcher on
- 10:17Speaker 1: a dead team in the second half or even for
- 10:20Speaker 1: the last couple of months, AJ, are you pitching the
- 10:24Speaker 1: same high stress as a pitcher who is a fringe
- 10:27Speaker 1: wild card contender team trying to get their push and
- 10:31Speaker 1: feel like almost every games the postseason while someone else
- 10:35Speaker 1: is pitching in an empty ballpark. I know it's not
- 10:36Speaker 1: easy for adrenaline purposes, but you are pitching in more
- 10:39Speaker 1: meaningful baseball games and we don't necessarily have the numbers
- 10:43Speaker 1: to show that.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I mean, they voters have proven over the years that
- 10:48Speaker 2: it doesn't matter how your team is doing for MVP
- 10:50Speaker 2: and for Cy Young and and things like that, so
- 10:53Speaker 2: I don't I mean, I wish it was more like that,
- 10:55Speaker 2: but sadly, I don't think it's gonna matter. They always
- 10:59Speaker 2: just go off who the best numbers are and there's
- 11:01Speaker 2: no whoever they at the end of the day, whoever
- 11:04Speaker 2: has the best numbers is going to win. The voters
- 11:06Speaker 2: have proven over the MVP when guys are finishing last
- 11:10Speaker 2: place winning the MVP, when guys with similar or little
- 11:13Speaker 2: bit less numbers or in pennant races and they don't win.
- 11:16Speaker 2: It's just proven over and over again. So I think
- 11:19Speaker 2: it's going to come down whoever has the best numbers
- 11:21Speaker 2: at the end of the year and who people think
- 11:22Speaker 2: is the best picture. I don't think it has anything
- 11:24Speaker 2: to do with if you're in the playoffs or not.
- 11:26Speaker 2: It's sad as it pain as sad as that isn't
- 11:28Speaker 2: as much as it pains me to say.
- 11:29Speaker 1: That we haven't really talked about that topic much aj
- 11:33Speaker 1: that we've just kind of gotten rid of the part
- 11:37Speaker 1: of the game's mattering for individual awards. I feel like
- 11:42Speaker 1: it almost got dispelled where it's, oh, you're an old
- 11:45Speaker 1: school thinker. If you're not just looking at the hard
- 11:48Speaker 1: numbers for the player, you don't know and understand all
- 11:51Speaker 1: the other factors. But I'm like, really, if you're a
- 11:54Speaker 1: fan or you're working in the game, you know that
- 11:57Speaker 1: you watch a certain player playing games and stadember versus
- 12:01Speaker 1: someone else who's playing garbage time, and it's different. Is
- 12:04Speaker 1: every home run in RBI and everything else the same? No,
- 12:07Speaker 1: some players are more clutch than others, Right, Some guys
- 12:09Speaker 1: have been really good at gobbling up great stats because
- 12:12Speaker 1: they're good at hitting bad pitching, and then they pop
- 12:14Speaker 1: up in the postseason and they're not as good. So
- 12:17Speaker 1: I'm with you here. Should it be the deciding factor? Always?
- 12:20Speaker 2: No?
- 12:21Speaker 1: But should it be one ounce in the recipe?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you're comparing apples to apples. You're not comparing like
- 12:29Speaker 2: like take the National League nationally Rookie of the Year
- 12:34Speaker 2: or American League Rookie of the Year. Right now, if
- 12:36Speaker 2: the Tigers continue to slide in the white soce continue
- 12:39Speaker 2: to be a team that's right there in a wild card,
- 12:42Speaker 2: in the lead for a wild card spot right now,
- 12:45Speaker 2: hit minataka more. Commies at bats matter more. And so
- 12:52Speaker 2: if you're saying, okay, both their values are the same,
- 12:54Speaker 2: they're very close. How are we going to differentiate it? Well,
- 12:58Speaker 2: his defense and his home runs and is more commedi's
- 13:02Speaker 2: hitting big home runs in big spots. If you're voting,
- 13:06Speaker 2: you're vote. You're not voting on a computer. Now saying computer,
- 13:10Speaker 2: you choose it based on the numbers, you're doing it
- 13:13Speaker 2: based on or it becomes just a war stat you're
- 13:15Speaker 2: doing it based on what you're seeing in that season.
- 13:24Speaker 1: AJ, what do you think?
- 13:27Speaker 2: I understand all those arguments, But at the end of
- 13:29Speaker 2: the day, they don't care about where your team is.
- 13:31Speaker 2: They haven't. They've proven that over year after year after
- 13:33Speaker 2: year now that they don't care where your team finishes.
- 13:36Speaker 2: And I agree, not all homers, not all wins, not
- 13:38Speaker 2: all pitches are thrown the same. When you're in the
- 13:41Speaker 2: middle of the pen raes. They're much more pressure, much
- 13:43Speaker 2: more adrenaline pact, all that stuff. But voters are proven
- 13:47Speaker 2: over and over again. It doesn't matter. What are examples?
- 13:51Speaker 2: What are examples? White tro Out winning the MVP, finishing last.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Every year show Hey winning the MVP when they finished last,
- 13:57Speaker 2: There's a Rod winning it, the one you're in Texas
- 13:59Speaker 2: when they finished last. There's there's Felix Hernandez winning it
- 14:02Speaker 2: with a twelve and twelve record, and a Tina didn't
- 14:04Speaker 2: come close to making the playoffs were there coming go
- 14:07Speaker 2: on and on. But like like some of those Trout
- 14:10Speaker 2: years the show Hey year, like who was really that close?
- 14:15Speaker 2: Like if you're talking about like the Albert Pool host
- 14:17Speaker 2: Ryan Howard time period where it was like the Cardinals
- 14:21Speaker 2: were always in Howard and Pool hosts are close, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 2: who should win it? That kind of thing. But if
- 14:27Speaker 2: it I'm not even talking about a tiny years, oh
- 14:30Speaker 2: tiny years whatever. He could. He could play on a
- 14:32Speaker 2: minor league team and still win MVP of the of
- 14:35Speaker 2: Major League Baseball. But when it's close apples to apples,
- 14:40Speaker 2: When when has that happened? I Mean, I don't have
- 14:44Speaker 2: all the numbers in front of right, I mean you win.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Let me say, I don't know. I don't have the
- 14:48Speaker 2: numbers in front of me. I'm sorry, I don't know. No,
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm more saying like, I mean, cool, yeah, should they
- 14:56Speaker 2: should the voters, because ultimately, if we keep leaking towards that,
- 15:01Speaker 2: then it ultimately just becomes a war stat and whether
- 15:04Speaker 2: you're a writer for the F War or the B War,
- 15:08Speaker 2: you know, and I get like that back in yeah,
- 15:11Speaker 2: and I guess that's what it's become. I know, back
- 15:15Speaker 2: in the day when I look at like old time
- 15:16Speaker 2: stats like sixties and seventies and you go back through
- 15:19Speaker 2: and you're like, whoa, that dude had twice the war
- 15:23Speaker 2: of what this player or this pitcher had. How did
- 15:27Speaker 2: he not win the MVP? He clearly had a better season.
- 15:30Speaker 2: So maybe they were too far on that end of
- 15:32Speaker 2: the spectrum.
- 15:33Speaker 1: They were they were you get this is I mean.
- 15:36Speaker 2: He's twenty twenty three, twenty twenty three show, hey won
- 15:39Speaker 2: it thirty first place votes. You know he had a
- 15:42Speaker 2: war of nine point nine because he you know, he
- 15:45Speaker 2: was doing his thing. It's in Anaheim, right. They didn't win,
- 15:48Speaker 2: They were't close to winning. Corey Seeger got zero first
- 15:51Speaker 2: place votes. His OPS was Shoe Hayes's one thousand and
- 15:55Speaker 2: sixty six. Corey Seegers was on thy thirteen. The Rangers
- 15:58Speaker 2: went to the World Series and one twenty twenty three,
- 16:00Speaker 2: he ain't get no votes. There's your there's your example.
- 16:03Speaker 2: That was pretty close. Sorry, pretty close. No, but he
- 16:07Speaker 2: pitched what do you mean fifty thousand ops? But he
- 16:13Speaker 2: pitched too. He got hurt at the end of August.
- 16:17Speaker 2: That's not that's just you asked when it was close.
- 16:19Speaker 2: There's there's when it was close and he was on
- 16:22Speaker 2: a last place team, or it was close enough they
- 16:26Speaker 2: were definitely last. If not.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Yeah, My thing is, yes, if there's two guys that
- 16:33Speaker 1: are very similar in you're voting, it should be a
- 16:35Speaker 1: part of the vote. And just because back in the
- 16:38Speaker 1: day they basically penalized players that weren't on winning teams
- 16:42Speaker 1: so much that they didn't vote for them, doesn't mean
- 16:44Speaker 1: that we just quash it completely and go the other extreme.
- 16:48Speaker 1: One more thing on.
- 16:50Speaker 2: You can go to twenty twenty one to Vladimir Guerrero.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I know show hay pitched. Vladimir Guerrero had a higher
- 16:54Speaker 2: OPS and in that year by almost fifty points, didn't win,
- 16:58Speaker 2: didn't get one first place vote. Again, I know, show
- 17:01Speaker 2: Hay pitch, but the Angels weren't good in twenty twenty
- 17:04Speaker 2: one either. I mean, can we can find all kinds
- 17:06Speaker 2: of examples, it doesn't matter. It's a war stat Now
- 17:09Speaker 2: the show Hey more valuable because he does hitting and
- 17:11Speaker 2: pitching than Vladimir Guerrero to Okay, well, then he'll he'll
- 17:15Speaker 2: never lose the award. You should just give it to
- 17:17Speaker 2: him every year as long as he pitches in.
- 17:18Speaker 1: His Oh, I agree, we say that every day. I agree,
- 17:20Speaker 1: I com totally agree with that.
- 17:22Speaker 2: But you can make a million arguments on who's more
- 17:24Speaker 2: valuable this guy or that guy to their team, and
- 17:27Speaker 2: if it's truly the most valuable player, then it shouldn't
- 17:31Speaker 2: just go strictly off some made up formula that people
- 17:34Speaker 2: can't even agree on the formula.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, well here for me, I agree with you, ad.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I just don't think Otani's the answer. I agree with you.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I think he I'm saying you take other guys like
- 17:46Speaker 1: use Trout. That's a good example, right, Trout, he's the
- 17:50Speaker 1: nicest guy, but he is playing garbage games every year
- 17:54Speaker 1: that he's healthy. Right, And then we're talking about the
- 17:56Speaker 1: prime year, so he was healthy, but he is the
- 17:58Speaker 1: team was out of it most of the time, well
- 18:01Speaker 1: before the end of the season. So do you value
- 18:04Speaker 1: those abs the same as somebody you're comparing him to?
- 18:07Speaker 1: And again, Trout's not even the best comparison some of
- 18:10Speaker 1: those years because the numbers, not just War were above
- 18:15Speaker 1: and beyond many others. Right, But I'm trying to prove
- 18:18Speaker 1: the point that if you had two players matched up
- 18:21Speaker 1: and one player is on a totally busted team, you
- 18:25Speaker 1: can use it as an ingredient. I think you should
- 18:28Speaker 1: use it as an ingredient. Most now don't think you
- 18:31Speaker 1: should use it most voters for sure.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Twenty seventeen, Stanton won the MVP right for the Marlins.
- 18:38Speaker 2: They finished under five hundred. Joey Vado had a higher
- 18:40Speaker 2: OPS and him that year same War. They both were
- 18:43Speaker 2: on crappy teams. Stanton won it pretty much almost unanimously.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Who was Was there anyone else in the running that
- 18:52Speaker 1: year though?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Go gold Schmian was the other one. Goldchman was on
- 18:57Speaker 2: obviously Arizona and Arizona Arizona gonna finish in second place
- 19:02Speaker 2: ninety three wins and he finished in third place in
- 19:04Speaker 2: the MVP voting. Now granted, Goldschmid's numbers were you know,
- 19:11Speaker 2: he was forty points behind Stanton in the MVP that year,
- 19:16Speaker 2: but Stan hit fifty nine Goldsmid hit thirty six. So
- 19:20Speaker 2: who was more valuable? I mean, Marlin's at your won
- 19:22Speaker 2: seventy seven games.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Godfather. I'm a last minute guy. Sometimes you're a last
- 19:28Speaker 1: minute guy where you all of a sudden see a
- 19:30Speaker 1: night open up and you want to go grab some tickets,
- 19:33Speaker 1: and you hadn't gotten them already, so you're gonna seek geek,
- 19:36Speaker 1: and you're gonna go look for a green dot and
- 19:38Speaker 1: see where the good seats are and the good value
- 19:40Speaker 1: is and have a little night with the fam.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Right without a doubt. And I'm looking for some of
- 19:45Speaker 3: the best seats. I'm looking for that green dot. When
- 19:47Speaker 3: I get that, it's a simple plug it in, use
- 19:50Speaker 3: your hands, go right on your screen, your phone, whatever
- 19:54Speaker 3: platform you can get it on. And it's so simple.
- 19:56Speaker 3: They make it so easy for you to do. My
- 20:00Speaker 3: son can do it if I ask him, Hey, Blakester,
- 20:02Speaker 3: let's go, man, get on there for us, find us
- 20:04Speaker 3: a couple of seats so we can watch even that
- 20:06Speaker 3: Subway series. That would be fantastic. Seat Geek has it all.
- 20:10Speaker 2: There for you.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and the code for you. You should know it.
- 20:13Speaker 1: It's Territory ten. It just gets you ten percent off
- 20:15Speaker 1: your next set of tickets. That's ten percent off any
- 20:18Speaker 1: tickets with promo code Territory one zero. Make sure you
- 20:20Speaker 1: click the link in the description, download the app. Then
- 20:23Speaker 1: the code is automatically added to your account so you
- 20:25Speaker 1: can use it later.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I think this cy Young will be will be a
- 20:28Speaker 2: very intriguing Who do we think is actually going to
- 20:31Speaker 2: be the three because obviously we can choose. I think
- 20:34Speaker 2: everybody could be right if you choose who you think
- 20:36Speaker 2: is gonna win. Who do we think is going to
- 20:37Speaker 2: be the top three at the end of the year.
- 20:39Speaker 2: To me, I think somehow, some way, Zach Wheeler gets
- 20:43Speaker 2: in there. I have no idea how, but Zack Wheeler
- 20:46Speaker 2: is like an afterthought so far this year. I think
- 20:48Speaker 2: it's Christopher Sanchez and I think the miss are my
- 20:52Speaker 2: top three at the end of the year. Why not,
- 20:54Speaker 2: O honey, I just don't. I don't think he's going
- 20:58Speaker 2: to get in that top three discussion, Okay, And that's okay.
- 21:03Speaker 2: He still might be top five. I just for some reason.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Obviously I can kick Zack Wheeler out. I can say
- 21:10Speaker 2: I can kick Zack Wheeler out, But I think if
- 21:13Speaker 2: I kick Zack Wheeler out, I might put Chris Sale in.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Because anybody that's watched Chris Sales outings right now, I
- 21:20Speaker 2: just feel like and everything is barring injuries. I'm not
- 21:23Speaker 2: I'm making the decision saying it's one of these guys
- 21:25Speaker 2: is not getting hurt. That's not what's getting these guys
- 21:28Speaker 2: out of here. I just feel like there's like that
- 21:32Speaker 2: Chris Sale has that look when he's throwing right now,
- 21:35Speaker 2: that he turns it up in big spots, he turns
- 21:38Speaker 2: it up when it's needed, and he's gonna get the innings,
- 21:41Speaker 2: and he's going to slide into that top three area.
- 21:44Speaker 2: If I were to choose so, I would say, oh,
- 21:45Speaker 2: Tony's top five right now?
- 21:47Speaker 1: Okay to me, I mean stuff wise, are Tany's got
- 21:50Speaker 1: it going on right now? It's just right if they're
- 21:52Speaker 1: limiting starts innings, if he does have to take a
- 21:55Speaker 1: break at some point, he's gonna push not to But
- 21:57Speaker 1: you just don't know, right and the Dodgers are the
- 22:00Speaker 1: team that's going to hit the brakes. If need be
- 22:06Speaker 1: one quick note on Sanchez. So remember AJ he got
- 22:10Speaker 1: paid in the off season. They kind of ripped up
- 22:12Speaker 1: his deal, which is pretty unconventional because they could have
- 22:14Speaker 1: just rolled out with a really good discount and surplus
- 22:17Speaker 1: value for a while. They decided to pay him. Then
- 22:19Speaker 1: in his first two starts, twelve innings, eight earned runs,
- 22:27Speaker 1: people are like, oh, what the heck, I'm sure Krats,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'm sure someone on the radio called in out in Philly.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Why'd we pay this guy? We already had him and
- 22:37Speaker 1: now he gave up eight runs in his first two starts.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Look at the game, love the rest of the way.
- 22:44Speaker 1: It's impressive. That's how quickly the narrative can change. You're like, oh,
- 22:48Speaker 1: Sanchez is se okay?
- 22:50Speaker 2: I mean I did a radio interview in Atlanta. They're
- 22:53Speaker 2: talking about Kim short Saw. He's four for forty two
- 22:55Speaker 2: since coming off the IL. They're like, should we Is
- 22:58Speaker 2: it time to get rid of him and put on
- 23:00Speaker 2: at short something. I'm like, no, calm down, I said,
- 23:02Speaker 2: if he was doing his normal thing and he goes
- 23:05Speaker 2: four for forty two in August, would you guys be worried?
- 23:07Speaker 2: They say, no, it's a slump. I like, exactly, calm down.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Guys had bad starts. Paul Skean's had a bad start,
- 23:12Speaker 2: remember his first start, and I was like, oh, no,
- 23:13Speaker 2: what's wrong. He's fine. People have bad outings. It happens.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, And also, I know we didn't talk a ton
- 23:20Speaker 1: about him in this segment, but krat Skens could easily
- 23:22Speaker 1: be in that top three by the end of the year.
- 23:24Speaker 1: His Skins could go oh for June in a good way, right,
- 23:27Speaker 1: Nobody scores a run off him in June.
- 23:29Speaker 2: It's he has He has like a point five ERA
- 23:33Speaker 2: in night games and like a six e R in
- 23:36Speaker 2: his like two bad day games starts. So yeah, Paul
- 23:40Speaker 2: Skins could easily be up there. Also, I'm not I
- 23:43Speaker 2: don't think. Yeah, I made myself choose a top three,
- 23:47Speaker 2: so that's why I got.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Those injuries for the Dodgers Taskar Hernandez was super frustrated.
- 23:55Speaker 1: He left to hamstring strain, left hammy strain. A few weeks.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I l for him, and Katie Wu wrote that Alex
- 24:03Speaker 1: call should see more starts and left. Also, damn, we
- 24:06Speaker 1: got more news about kek aj. It's a significant oblique tear,
- 24:12Speaker 1: so it's looking like it's going to be a couple months.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Six eight weeks was the timetable for now that was listed.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, talks for both these guys. Uh, but my guy,
- 24:21Speaker 2: Alex call is gonna get some more burn. I was
- 24:23Speaker 2: joking with him on Saturday when I saw him that
- 24:26Speaker 2: can't even play the day I come into to call
- 24:28Speaker 2: your game, and he's like, I'm just be gonna be
- 24:29Speaker 2: ready when I can ready when I'm called on. Well,
- 24:32Speaker 2: guess what, Alex, here's your chance. So we know what
- 24:34Speaker 2: you do. You take your walks, you get on base,
- 24:35Speaker 2: you put up quality of batch by a great left field,
- 24:37Speaker 2: so go get them. Sucks for Taoscar, sucks for kek.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Oblique strains, you don't mess around with. KK has got
- 24:43Speaker 2: a bad one. Let it heal. And we all know
- 24:46Speaker 2: KK only matters in the postseason.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I feel like you got to send him a card
- 24:51Speaker 1: or something with the oblique craziness that you had, the
- 24:55Speaker 1: rainbow that you had from your oblique. I feel like
- 25:00Speaker 1: K would appreciate That'd be like, yeah, don't worry, dude,
- 25:03Speaker 1: you can come back from this. Look at me.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Now. He only missed two weeks, so he's missing six
- 25:07Speaker 2: to eight. So it's a little different.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Well, you should include that in your note too.
- 25:11Speaker 2: You can come back record.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Yeah, uh interesting, as expected during the show, breaking news,
- 25:21Speaker 1: as expected, Yes, MLB proposed a hard salary cap to
- 25:25Speaker 1: union officials today. As part of the next CBA, the
- 25:28Speaker 1: salary floor for teams beginning in twenty twenty seven would
- 25:31Speaker 1: be set at one seventy one and two thirds million
- 25:33Speaker 1: or point two sorry, two thirds. I'm talking an innings
- 25:36Speaker 1: one seventy one point two million dollars which includes player benefits,
- 25:41Speaker 1: with the ceiling the cap at two forty five point three.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So one seventy one is your low. Two forty five
- 25:49Speaker 1: is your high. Money there it is.
- 25:50Speaker 2: They don't have money, they can't afford. They came to
- 25:53Speaker 2: a ninety nine nine million dollars Marlins can't afford, barely survive.
- 25:56Speaker 2: David Sampson and all his crappy dispute about how we
- 25:59Speaker 2: can't afford it, but now all of a sudden, every
- 26:01Speaker 2: team can afford one seventy one. Come on, man, this
- 26:04Speaker 2: is some bull crap. Man, I'm sorry, but this is
- 26:07Speaker 2: the whole point it just I know. He dispewed for
- 26:10Speaker 2: twenty minutes about how him and the Marlins couldn't afford,
- 26:13Speaker 2: you know, to keep the team around, and this and
- 26:15Speaker 2: that they had the money to pay in the contracts
- 26:17Speaker 2: originally and now that in the players went at one
- 26:21Speaker 2: fifty and now the owners say one to seventy one
- 26:24Speaker 2: and two forty is the cap? Now hard cap? Come on?
- 26:28Speaker 2: This is this is why this negotiations takes a long.
- 26:30Speaker 2: This is kind of ridiculous. I'm not gonna say just
- 26:33Speaker 2: from the kind of from both sides, this is kind
- 26:35Speaker 2: of ridiculous.
- 26:37Speaker 1: The funny thing is, though, yeah, if the teams can't
- 26:39Speaker 1: afford that kind of money, then what do you do?
- 26:42Speaker 1: You share it. It's the whole answer to everything. All
- 26:45Speaker 1: you have to do is figure out how they're playing.
- 26:47Speaker 2: The owner verse owner fight. Its owner verse owner fight.
- 26:50Speaker 1: That's what it is, the whole name of the game.
- 26:52Speaker 1: That's it.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Here, guys will help you, will help you. This is
- 26:57Speaker 2: Stevie Cohen, Stevie Cohen, This is how Steinbrenner, how Steinbrenner,
- 27:03Speaker 2: this is Tom Ricketts. And you guys meet together and
- 27:07Speaker 2: you guys talk about how you have the majority of
- 27:09Speaker 2: the money the other teams want it. If you truly,
- 27:13Speaker 2: as Major League Baseball want competitive balance and a fair
- 27:16Speaker 2: fight for each season, you're gonna have to give some
- 27:19Speaker 2: of this money up. Well, I'm not giving it up.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I'm not good. How about you? Are you giving it up? Nope,
- 27:24Speaker 2: we already give them a lot. We have to give
- 27:25Speaker 2: them more. Wait a minute, how is that going to happen? Oh?
- 27:28Speaker 2: Just give them more because okay, well then let's get
- 27:31Speaker 2: a floor. You guys have to spend every penny on payroll.
- 27:35Speaker 2: To me, that's where the answer is not. Oh, because
- 27:38Speaker 2: we bought two trajet machines, that's a million dollars for
- 27:41Speaker 2: our Dominican academy. Oh, we just build a new Dominican academy.
- 27:45Speaker 2: That's thirty million dollars what we spent thirty of the Yankees'
- 27:48Speaker 2: money that they gave to us the pirates.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's a real estate deal. At that point,
- 27:53Speaker 1: I'm boosting my real estate that I'm doing that. It's insane.
- 27:56Speaker 1: It's insane, dude. But props for Jesse Rogers for breaking
- 27:59Speaker 1: the store.
- 28:01Speaker 2: More on that smat so excited to read it. That's
- 28:03Speaker 2: a small window. By the way, I'm.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yep, hey, we're back. Of course, all this CBA stuff's
- 28:12Speaker 1: coming out at the end of the show.
- 28:14Speaker 2: So I'm just trying to By the way, Scott, let's
- 28:16Speaker 2: also say this, Rob Manford, the Commission of Baseball, has
- 28:19Speaker 2: an open invitation to come on the show anytime he wants.
- 28:21Speaker 2: We tried, and we've gotten to the point where I've
- 28:26Speaker 2: went through, jump through all the hoops, got it done,
- 28:28Speaker 2: and he canceled in the last forty eight whatever it was.
- 28:33Speaker 2: I mean, now I've texted him. We'll return a text.
- 28:36Speaker 2: So I don't think that's gonna happen. But he has
- 28:38Speaker 2: an open invitation. He's he's going around doing his media tour.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I'd love to have him on and have a real
- 28:43Speaker 2: conversation about this.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Go on a show where you can just flow talk
- 28:49Speaker 1: about whatever. Yeah, there's a lot of rules there, and
- 28:54Speaker 1: we're down. We were like, yeah, bring them on as
- 28:56Speaker 1: much time as he wants whatever. I mean, we're gonna
- 28:57Speaker 1: ask whatever questions, but the questions are about baseball. So yeah,
- 29:02Speaker 1: that's not the problem.
- 29:03Speaker 2: That can come on. I'd love to have Pack Courtney
- 29:05Speaker 2: on too, his right hand guy come on to talk
- 29:08Speaker 2: to him about it if he wants.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I agree, I think it would be very meaningful to
- 29:13Speaker 1: come on and talk to a show about what's going
- 29:16Speaker 1: on and you get questions that answer both sides of
- 29:19Speaker 1: the spectrum. He're not just kind of like the scripted stuff.
- 29:22Speaker 2: It would be would helpful. I want to be informed
- 29:25Speaker 2: so that I know more, to be able to let
- 29:26Speaker 2: everyone else know more.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I think the biggest problem is, like the thing that
- 29:31Speaker 1: we're bringing up right, like there is an easy solution
- 29:33Speaker 1: all of this is to just share the money. And
- 29:35Speaker 1: it's hard when you work for those people that are
- 29:38Speaker 1: arguing behind the scenes. Right, if you're if you're rob,
- 29:41Speaker 1: how do you answer that question right? Because he's not
- 29:44Speaker 1: getting asked that or not really right. I mean he
- 29:46Speaker 1: was on what mcviee yesterday. They didn't talk about that.
- 29:49Speaker 1: He had his stuff. He laid out what he was saying.
- 29:52Speaker 1: You know, he had his.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Line baseball games. We just want we're gonna be bipartisan.
- 29:58Speaker 2: We're gonna bring our information, hopefully you can bring his
- 30:00Speaker 2: information so that we can get this done. For what
- 30:04Speaker 2: the betterment of baseball Isn't that? What isn't that what
- 30:07Speaker 2: he's peddling right now? Competitive balance is for the betterment
- 30:10Speaker 2: of baseball. That's what I'm here for because I'll be
- 30:14Speaker 2: gone long before major League Baseball's gone. And I hope
- 30:17Speaker 2: I leave it in a better place than when I
- 30:21Speaker 2: was here on Earth participating in it.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Rob's gonna have a lot of pressure here, make sure
- 30:28Speaker 1: we don't lose games or miss games. Legacy's on the line.
- 30:33Speaker 1: This is it right, He's retiring soon after that.
- 30:36Speaker 2: So I mean competitive balance. The Brewers make the playoffs
- 30:40Speaker 2: every here. They don't win. It's really hard to win.
- 30:41Speaker 2: But the Brewers are really good and I love watching
- 30:44Speaker 2: them play. I don't know, competitive balance is an interesting
- 30:47Speaker 2: way to put it.
- 30:51Speaker 1: AJ gave me a line on Blue Chew.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Well, do you need help with your love life, Scott, perhaps,

- 31:55Speaker 1: info as it comes through here on what the league's proposing,
- 31:58Speaker 1: what the players are proposing. We didn't really get to
- 32:00Speaker 1: this guys, but the you know, there's there's much more
- 32:03Speaker 1: to these proposals than just the top one or two topics.
- 32:08Speaker 1: You know, the players proposed one and a half mill
- 32:10Speaker 1: on the minimum salary for the first year than one
- 32:12Speaker 1: six five. You know, it keeps going up each year,
- 32:14Speaker 1: but one and a half for next year, so that's
- 32:16Speaker 1: about double what it currently is. They proposed the soft
- 32:19Speaker 1: floor to go with the current soft cap. They proposed
- 32:22Speaker 1: the cap or there's soft cap numbers to keep moving.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Three hundred MILI would be next year, up from two
- 32:28Speaker 1: forty four, which is what it is right now. They
- 32:31Speaker 1: want to get rid of the qualifying offer. They want
- 32:33Speaker 1: the pre orb bonus pool to include more players, almost
- 32:37Speaker 1: half the players versus about a fifth of them right
- 32:40Speaker 1: now and just rolling through. They want free agency by
- 32:43Speaker 1: thirty If you're a five plus year player in terms
- 32:45Speaker 1: of service time, or if you're you can be kept,
- 32:48Speaker 1: but then you'd have to hit an average of one
- 32:50Speaker 1: hundred and twenty five the one hundred and twenty five
- 32:52Speaker 1: top salaries. I'm going fast here, but anything that you
- 32:55Speaker 1: guys want to stop and talk about for a moment
- 32:57Speaker 1: from what the players proposed. While I look through the
- 32:59Speaker 1: league puzzle.
- 33:02Speaker 2: All things the players want, all things that the players
- 33:04Speaker 2: think they deserve. Nothing nothing stands out. This is all
- 33:09Speaker 2: stuff we've heard in the past. This is all stuff
- 33:10Speaker 2: that if you've been in one of these players Association meetings,
- 33:13Speaker 2: This is all things that they've wanted in the past.
- 33:15Speaker 2: So I can't I know nothing. Nothing is surprising in
- 33:19Speaker 2: this for me. If the owners want something so historic
- 33:26Speaker 2: and just a massive thing like a cap, then you
- 33:30Speaker 2: have to offer something so historic and crazy on the
- 33:34Speaker 2: other end. And until that happens, I think there's going
- 33:38Speaker 2: to be just zero listening to the word cap, any
- 33:41Speaker 2: kind of top, top end, low end cap. It doesn't matter, Like,
- 33:46Speaker 2: where are we talking free agency at four years? That
- 33:49Speaker 2: would hurt the game? Like, that's not going to happen.
- 33:52Speaker 2: So when you're talking about something over here, you have
- 33:55Speaker 2: to have an equal or greater thing if you really
- 33:57Speaker 2: want this thing over here. That team's saying is the
- 34:00Speaker 2: cat is and they want that cat badly.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Yeah, stuff's coming out as we go here. Evandrelik posting
- 34:07Speaker 1: the cap and floor numbers plus said, you know the
- 34:09Speaker 1: lee goes fifty to fifty split in revenues. I got
- 34:12Speaker 1: to read what that really means, because how do you
- 34:14Speaker 1: know what the revenue split is if you're not setting
- 34:16Speaker 1: the actual cap and floor numbers? Also, what does that include?
- 34:19Speaker 1: That's a hotly debated topic these days. Does that include
- 34:22Speaker 1: the land that you own and all of that, right,
- 34:26Speaker 1: which is becoming really part of this. And also that's
- 34:28Speaker 1: a way that you can cookbooks these days, right, it counts. Oh,
- 34:33Speaker 1: we're investing in this, so we're losing on that. I know,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to simplify it, but it's true. This is
- 34:38Speaker 1: just the battles that are going online the scenes right now.
- 34:42Speaker 1: It's fun. It's fun when it's almost June, and this
- 34:44Speaker 1: is what we get to talk about while the season's flowing.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Credit to us. I don't pat us on the back often,
- 34:50Speaker 1: but AJ, this stuff all came out. We spent twenty
- 34:53Speaker 1: minutes on it. But we started the show with a kanie,
- 34:55Speaker 1: as we should. And we're talking ball this year business
- 34:59Speaker 1: for sure, but we'll have all off season for that too. Meanwhile,
- 35:02Speaker 1: Evan Drelic joining us tomorrow to go over the details
- 35:05Speaker 1: from the from the league side. So AJ will see
- 35:09Speaker 1: you on Monday.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yes, uh no, Tuesday. I'm off Monday. I switched next
- 35:16Speaker 2: week with Todd because I gotta fly to take my
- 35:18Speaker 2: son to play summer baseball.
- 35:20Speaker 1: You're right, Dodger's Territory coming up next and live if
- 35:24Speaker 1: you want to go to their YouTube channel. Ken Rosenthal tomorrow,
- 35:26Speaker 1: Evan d Relic tomorrow, so we'll go over all the
- 35:29Speaker 1: back and forth league stuff with the CBA. Mike Soroka
- 35:32Speaker 1: from the Diamondbacks is joining us tomorrow. Most rookie homers
- 35:41Speaker 1: before June. Murakami, what is going on? I mean, AJ,
- 35:46Speaker 1: you're the perfect guy to talk to. You watch the
- 35:49Speaker 1: White Sox through thick and thin, and this dude has
- 35:52Speaker 1: taken the league by storm. They can't say they knew
- 35:55Speaker 1: this was coming. They saw a guy.
- 35:57Speaker 2: He fell in their lap. He fell whatever. He fell
- 36:00Speaker 2: in their lap because every other team passed, every other
- 36:03Speaker 2: team missed on him. And the White Socks were like, well,
- 36:05Speaker 2: no one's signing this guy. Let's take a shot, and
- 36:07Speaker 2: they signed him. So good for the White Sox were
- 36:09Speaker 2: stepping up to the plate, but he fell in their lap.
- 36:12Speaker 2: And what he does is everyone said he couldn't hit heaters.
- 36:15Speaker 2: He's just mashing everything. I saw him take a slider
- 36:18Speaker 2: to laugh last night. He just he's a good hitter.
- 36:21Speaker 2: I know his average isn't very high, but this guy's
- 36:24Speaker 2: a good hitter, and he takes his walks. He's got
- 36:27Speaker 2: sick power. For a guy that's not huge, he's got
- 36:31Speaker 2: some serious, serious power.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of homers to center last night was
- 36:38Speaker 1: to left, center, right. I mean, it's insane. And the
- 36:42Speaker 1: strikeout right high right, The strikeout rate is high. He's
- 36:46Speaker 1: got a lot of swing and miss, including in the zone.
- 36:49Speaker 1: But if you're out of the zone, he's not swinging
- 36:52Speaker 1: at it. That's the thing. Right, So you're looking it's
- 36:54Speaker 1: like yeah, he's going to miss in the zone sometimes,
- 36:56Speaker 1: but he's not going to miss in the zone every time,
- 36:58Speaker 1: so you're gonna get him. But eventually, if he forces
- 37:01Speaker 1: you in the zone and he finds his pitch, he's homework.
- 37:04Speaker 1: He can also foul off pitches too quite well, so
- 37:06Speaker 1: he can he can drive a dp AB. He's got
- 37:09Speaker 1: it going on. He's actually the you know what's funny crats,
- 37:11Speaker 1: He's the front office dream. This is the guy. This
- 37:15Speaker 1: is somewhat of a three true outcomes or I guess
- 37:18Speaker 1: an extreme three true outcomes strikeouts. He can take a walk,
- 37:21Speaker 1: he can hit a ball a million mile or you know,
- 37:24Speaker 1: ev million miles an hour. This is the dream. This
- 37:27Speaker 1: is what front offices look for.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I think sometimes front offices miss because you look at
- 37:32Speaker 2: a guy and you go, oh, he controls the strike zone,
- 37:35Speaker 2: so that's so great, when in reality he's just taking
- 37:38Speaker 2: pitches that are starting off the plate and then you know,
- 37:43Speaker 2: if it comes back on. They don't. They don't like
- 37:45Speaker 2: battle the at bat the games because now I want
- 37:48Speaker 2: to tune I can't believe I'm saying this. I want
- 37:50Speaker 2: to tune into a White Sox game around his at bat,
- 37:53Speaker 2: around Montgomery's at bat like I want to see it,
- 37:57Speaker 2: and what I've seen from your comy is yes, he
- 38:01Speaker 2: takes pitches that are balls out of the out of
- 38:04Speaker 2: the hand, but when it gets to two strikes, I've
- 38:06Speaker 2: seen him battle some at bats like there's some true
- 38:10Speaker 2: three true outcome guys who are just like, if it's
- 38:12Speaker 2: not right down the middle, I'm just taking it. I'm
- 38:16Speaker 2: if it's a if it's a borderline pitch, I'm it's fine,
- 38:18Speaker 2: Like I'll strike out. That's totally fine. It looks to
- 38:22Speaker 2: me like he battles, and for a guy with power
- 38:25Speaker 2: to battle at bats, it doesn't sound like it's like
- 38:29Speaker 2: rocket science. But it is something that very few people do,
- 38:33Speaker 2: and I've been super impressed with it.
- 38:37Speaker 1: And AJ has been strong about this, easily leading the
- 38:41Speaker 1: pack for AL Rookie of the Year. But but just.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Crouch he boasted McGonagall even though he's got an OPS
- 38:49Speaker 2: by over one hundred points over him.
- 38:52Speaker 1: This is where it's worth bringing.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Up because, as I said, if he hits forty to
- 38:56Speaker 2: fifty homers, he's gonna win Rookie the Year. I'm sorry,
- 38:58Speaker 2: I don't care what McGonagall does. And also your argument
- 39:01Speaker 2: tiger stink. So if you're going to use your argument,
- 39:04Speaker 2: the White Sox are going to playoff race the Tigers stink.
- 39:08Speaker 1: So so let's get into this for a moment. Okay,
- 39:11Speaker 1: the Ale Rookie of the Year race, and there's there's
- 39:14Speaker 1: others we know, but we're looking at Murakami and McGonagall
- 39:16Speaker 1: right now. Those are the two that are above eight
- 39:19Speaker 1: hundred ops and Murrakami's of course over nine hundred ops.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Twenty homers. McGonagall has three. We know the game's not
- 39:26Speaker 1: all about homers. And on this show, it's not like
- 39:29Speaker 1: we're afraid of advanced stats. Okay. We what we do
- 39:35Speaker 1: is try and crap on both sides enough to bring
- 39:38Speaker 1: us to the middle. We bring up war every day
- 39:40Speaker 1: on the show. We bring up ops plus, we bring
- 39:42Speaker 1: up defensive metrics like ou it's above average. But in
- 39:45Speaker 1: this case, AJ Kevin mcgonigal's fan grafts war is two
- 39:49Speaker 1: point four Munataki Murakami's fangrafts war is two. If we're
- 39:54Speaker 1: about a third of the way through the season, Murakami
- 39:56Speaker 1: is going to be a six win player and McGonagall
- 39:59Speaker 1: would be a seven and a half win player. I'm
- 40:04Speaker 1: sorry Murakami should be the AL Rookie of the Year.
- 40:07Speaker 2: I'm sorry also because he's getting more points for defense.
- 40:11Speaker 2: And by the way, Murk Comedy plays third base and
- 40:14Speaker 2: he plays for you know. Mrk Commy stole a base though,
- 40:16Speaker 2: and he steals first base. Yesterday he starts stealing some bases.
- 40:20Speaker 2: This is why this is the biggest problem I have
- 40:22Speaker 2: with War. I understand this, but it puts an overvalue
- 40:26Speaker 2: on walks, stolen bases, and sometimes defense depending on who
- 40:30Speaker 2: you are, right, I mean, walks and stolen bases are
- 40:33Speaker 2: way overvalued for me in War because especially after the
- 40:36Speaker 2: number we showed yesterday, where everybody can get ten stolen
- 40:39Speaker 2: bases in the game. So I I just don't I
- 40:43Speaker 2: don't know how if these numbers continue. Okay, we're a
- 40:45Speaker 2: third of the way through. Murcammy hits sixty homers. Kevin McGonagall,
- 40:49Speaker 2: nice player, he hits nine. Murcammy drives in one hundred
- 40:54Speaker 2: and twenty. McGonagall drives in sixty. Who's the best? Who?
- 40:58Speaker 2: Who's Who's the rookie of the year.
- 41:01Speaker 1: It's not right now and Rookie of the year right now?
- 41:07Speaker 2: It shouldn't be closed now. I'm sorry. It shouldn't. Mcgonagall's
- 41:11Speaker 2: a nice player, really nice player, going to be a
- 41:13Speaker 2: great player. But this year as the rookie year, it's
- 41:17Speaker 2: Murk Commie. I'm sorry. The end of the end of April,
- 41:21Speaker 2: McGonagall still had it. McGonagall was still hitting three thirty.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Mcgonaga was still you know, yes, his power wasn't there,
- 41:27Speaker 2: but he was playing shortstop every day for the Tigers.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I think he still had it. MORKKAMMI not just caught
- 41:33Speaker 2: up to him, but past McGonagall. Gonagall's having a great year,
- 41:38Speaker 2: but you have twenty before the end of May. He
- 41:43Speaker 2: could slump the rest of the year and end with forty.
- 41:47Speaker 2: And to me, the bats that I see, I don't
- 41:50Speaker 2: care that he plays first base and he's not going
- 41:52Speaker 2: to add as much value to defense. Murk Commi is
- 41:55Speaker 2: taken out of that lineup, and I know it's not
- 41:57Speaker 2: the MVP race, it's the American League rookie the year
- 42:00Speaker 2: Murkkammy's taken out of that lineup. The White Sox are
- 42:03Speaker 2: a completely different to different team. The Tigers are just
- 42:07Speaker 2: the they'll have just the worst record in Major League Baseball.
- 42:11Speaker 2: They wouldn't have just the second worst in the American League, Like,
- 42:15Speaker 2: I don't think it's close. I don't think it's close
- 42:16Speaker 2: right now. As much as I wanted and thought McGonagall
- 42:20Speaker 2: was going to be the guy, I don't think it
- 42:22Speaker 2: is close.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a defense and base running difference, but we're
- 42:27Speaker 1: looking at the player comp right now. Murk Kami a
- 42:32Speaker 1: three seventy five OVP McGonagall. That's elite, that's incredible, three
- 42:36Speaker 1: ninety nine. But the way that Murk Commy's impacting games
- 42:41Speaker 1: and you, and when I say impacting games, AJ he changes,
- 42:45Speaker 1: he's now battling, he does exactly.
- 42:47Speaker 2: And the way that that the litchers.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Are navigating through it right because he's now they're they're
- 42:51Speaker 1: pitching carefully around him, and he's still delivering. And that's
- 42:54Speaker 1: when I mean, obviously the best ever was Bonds, Right,
- 42:56Speaker 1: You'd see one pitch a night or two or three
- 42:58Speaker 1: and they would all be homers. Murk Kami has to
- 43:01Speaker 1: start becoming that.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I don't know if he's going to get to that extreme,
- 43:04Speaker 2: but yeah.
- 43:04Speaker 1: No, I'm not saying Bond, but he's going to get
- 43:06Speaker 1: much less to hit.
- 43:08Speaker 2: And also there yes, and the people hitting in front
- 43:11Speaker 2: of him and behind him become even more important. So
- 43:14Speaker 2: I agree he's changed his whole lineup. He's changed it
- 43:17Speaker 2: the whole lineup. He has made it easier on Coulsa Montgomery,
- 43:20Speaker 2: he's made it easy on McGill, Vargas, He's made it
- 43:22Speaker 2: easier on Chase Midraw through grand Slain last night. I mean,
- 43:25Speaker 2: I just think he has changed this whole lineup. And
- 43:27Speaker 2: because he is a presence, and any good teams have
- 43:30Speaker 2: a guy that has that presence, and right now on
- 43:32Speaker 2: the White Sox or above five hundred, he is the
- 43:34Speaker 2: guy with that presence.
- 43:39Speaker 1: YEP, one more while we're on this, because it'll tie
- 43:43Speaker 1: into the other award. We really haven't talked to Worth much,
- 43:47Speaker 1: so I wanted to mention this while we highlight some
- 43:49Speaker 1: crazy performances this week that lead us to this discussion. AJ,
- 43:55Speaker 1: do you think you're down? Operas has a chance at
- 43:57Speaker 1: an MVP if he plays the full season. He's fives
- 44:00Speaker 1: in his last three games. He's got twenty on the year,
- 44:02Speaker 1: and actually on Fangrafts War, it's Bobby witt one hit
- 44:06Speaker 1: three point five, it's Jordon two at two point nine.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Let me even bake it more for you. The Astros
- 44:12Speaker 1: make the playoffs as the third wild card and Jordan
- 44:15Speaker 1: plays a full season. After forty eight games last year
- 44:18Speaker 1: and they barely missed. This year, he plays a full season,
- 44:20Speaker 1: they barely make it, and he hits fifty five homers.
- 44:25Speaker 2: MVP candidates judge where he's a candidate. Where's judge at though?
- 44:29Speaker 1: I judge projects the rest of the way.
- 44:31Speaker 2: They judge his numbers at the end of the year.
- 44:33Speaker 1: We're playing games today, but extrapolate, so project whatever he
- 44:37Speaker 1: has one third of the way through the rest of
- 44:39Speaker 1: the way.
- 44:40Speaker 2: I think you can throw I think you can throw
- 44:42Speaker 2: Morecami in the MVP. If the White Sox continue to
- 44:44Speaker 2: hang around, his numbers go out the way they are,
- 44:47Speaker 2: I think you can throw Alvarez in there. The Astros
- 44:50Speaker 2: have to get excuse me, way hotter and stay in
- 44:53Speaker 2: this race, or get into this race, because right now
- 44:55Speaker 2: they're not in it. I just find that, what was
- 44:59Speaker 2: it fan graphs awards Alvarez played in the field this
- 45:02Speaker 2: entire year. I'm looking it up because here's my question.
- 45:09Speaker 2: So if yeah, how many games, I mean, you can't
- 45:12Speaker 2: have played nine games. Nine games, okay. So if you're
- 45:15Speaker 2: if you're Murakami, okay, and you were doing a McGonagall
- 45:18Speaker 2: versus Murakami. If Murkammy didn't play first and he was
- 45:23Speaker 2: just a DH, would his war be higher? Because if
- 45:27Speaker 2: if the numbers are similar, I mean, I know Alvires
- 45:30Speaker 2: is a higher OPS, but if they were similar, is
- 45:33Speaker 2: it better just to be the DH because then you
- 45:34Speaker 2: get compared to other dhs. I don't know. I don't
- 45:37Speaker 2: know how, I don't know enough about it. This is just.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Well, I guess. I guess this is the question I
- 45:42Speaker 1: don't have to answer.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Because his defense can't be helping them nine games.
- 45:47Speaker 1: He's not that bad out there sometimes. But if if
- 45:50Speaker 1: you play defense, and you even play at an average level,
- 45:53Speaker 1: it will help your number.
- 45:55Speaker 2: His defense is hurting him. He is negative negative point
- 45:59Speaker 2: eight b War. I'm looking at b War on his defense,
- 46:04Speaker 2: so so that's definitely hurting him, But I think it
- 46:07Speaker 2: can help other guys. I think if you're comparing hitter
- 46:09Speaker 2: to hitter, I don't think anybody's saying that Markami is
- 46:13Speaker 2: in the same realm as you're done. I think when
- 46:15Speaker 2: we're talking about your non you talk about and for
- 46:20Speaker 2: him to win the MVP, you have to have look
- 46:23Speaker 2: at Shohey winning the MVP as a DH. And what
- 46:27Speaker 2: did he do fifty to fifty one hundred and some
- 46:31Speaker 2: your dons, your don's on the on route to that.
- 46:34Speaker 2: I'm trying to look at where he's at with He's
- 46:36Speaker 2: going to have italics all over his page. He's got
- 46:39Speaker 2: twenty homers, he's got thirty nine RBI, so you got
- 46:43Speaker 2: I mean, he's got to have one hundred and thirty
- 46:45Speaker 2: RBI's got to be fifty five plus homers. He's got
- 46:49Speaker 2: to hit over three ten in my opinion, ops has
- 46:52Speaker 2: to be in like the eleven hundreds for him to
- 46:54Speaker 2: be an MVP candidate. You look at what Schwarberg got
- 46:57Speaker 2: last year. He got votes. I mean granted, like I
- 47:02Speaker 2: don't know that he should have won it had Otani
- 47:04Speaker 2: not been in the league, but the voting said he
- 47:06Speaker 2: got it. So to me, I think Jordan can get it.
- 47:10Speaker 2: He can, he can definitely get it. But those numbers
- 47:13Speaker 2: have to be here and maybe higher where he's at
- 47:16Speaker 2: right now, maybe higher mm hm to be it has
- 47:20Speaker 2: to be historic. That's what we talk about the end
- 47:22Speaker 2: of every year.
- 47:24Speaker 1: I want to talk NL West for a moment, but
- 47:27Speaker 1: not the Dodgers, not the Padres. Have you seen the
- 47:31Speaker 1: Arizona Diamondbacks lately schedule watching. We are schedule watching eleven
- 47:36Speaker 1: and two in their last thirteen against the Giants and Rockies.
- 47:38Speaker 1: They've only played the Giants and Rockies. That's a great
- 47:40Speaker 1: dose of medicine. But you do have to beat those
- 47:42Speaker 1: teams and Aja. The thing that was exciting for me
- 47:46Speaker 1: was the pitching looked better than I expected to start
- 47:48Speaker 1: the year, but that it can last.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:49Speaker 1: EDWARDO Rodriguez pitching we els Roku has been great. I
- 47:51Speaker 1: think he's joining us soon on the show either a
- 47:54Speaker 1: few next week. Sewall, what a move. The one problem
- 48:00Speaker 1: for them at the beginning of the year that kept
- 48:01Speaker 1: them more five hundred dish was that some of their
- 48:03Speaker 1: stars weren't hitting, and you knew they were gonna hit.
- 48:05Speaker 1: So here comes Kitteling Company. They look good.
- 48:09Speaker 2: They're good. They're a good team. They've they've turned it
- 48:12Speaker 2: on here. Now the schedule helps, but you got to
- 48:13Speaker 2: beat those teams and the schedule. But they are they're good. Listen.
- 48:17Speaker 2: They were one of those teams that going into this
- 48:18Speaker 2: year that we said, if everything lines up, they could
- 48:20Speaker 2: be pretty good and get to the postseason. So he
- 48:23Speaker 2: can good for the Diamondbacks in the desert right now.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Tell Martee is blasting the baseball from both sides of
- 48:31Speaker 2: the plate. That Homer he hit from the right side
- 48:34Speaker 2: the other day, like two days ago. That was crazy.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Carol went through a little bit of a Corbyn Carroll
- 48:39Speaker 2: went through a little bit of a knee. And he's
- 48:42Speaker 2: doing it. He's one of the he's one of the
- 48:44Speaker 2: most valuable hitters based on war. But he just they
- 48:47Speaker 2: just create stuff offensively. Is there pitching enough? Are they
- 48:53Speaker 2: gonna hold up? I don't know, but right now they
- 48:55Speaker 2: are killing.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Teams should have given up more for Katel in the
- 49:00Speaker 1: off season. They would have traded him. Hey I've got
- 49:05Speaker 1: one during our little break here, the Orioles sweeping the race, anyone,
- 49:11Speaker 1: anyone I got destroyed. I go on Baltimore Radio more
- 49:15Speaker 1: than any other spot. I go on a couple spots.
- 49:18Speaker 2: That's because they that's because they ask you every third
- 49:20Speaker 2: day to go on.
- 49:21Speaker 1: I mean it's it's not just that one spot, though
- 49:23Speaker 1: there's a few.
- 49:24Speaker 2: I know, there's multiple ones. They ask you multiple times
- 49:27Speaker 2: a week to come on. It's like, okay, dude, like
- 49:30Speaker 2: uncle on the Uncle, I love you, but Uncle on
- 49:32Speaker 2: the request.
- 49:33Speaker 1: I went on Glenn Clark's show the other day, and
- 49:36Speaker 1: he was kind of making fun of me. He played
- 49:39Speaker 1: the clip of when I was on saying, well, the
- 49:41Speaker 1: Oriols aren't doing anything well, but I still think they're good.
- 49:43Speaker 1: And then they were making fun of me, and then
- 49:45Speaker 1: I still went on the show and said they're because
- 49:47Speaker 1: you know, in Baltimore, it's like the sky is falling,
- 49:49Speaker 1: they're the worst team ever. And I'm like, they're not
- 49:51Speaker 1: the worst team out, They're not that bad. I was like,
- 49:53Speaker 1: they're pretty good. I was like, I think they can hit.
- 49:55Speaker 1: I think there's enough pitching there. I'm not sure about
- 49:57Speaker 1: the bullpen, but I was like, they're going to compete
- 49:59Speaker 1: for a wild guards by and here they are. It's like,
- 50:01Speaker 1: you have one good week and they're right there.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Because the American League sucks. Josh reddickk' that's where we
- 50:12Speaker 2: have to because I guess, but I'm here. That's where
- 50:17Speaker 2: we have to as the superior analytic, superior analysts of baseball,
- 50:22Speaker 2: we need to try to fix. We need to try
- 50:24Speaker 2: to see through the muddle, like see through the muddle
- 50:27Speaker 2: of all these American League teams, and that's why it's
- 50:30Speaker 2: so hard to predict, right now, but I agree. I
- 50:32Speaker 2: agree with Scott. I think the Oriols are better than
- 50:35Speaker 2: what their record shows in a bad American league.
- 50:38Speaker 1: Yes, and let this team show you that they can
- 50:42Speaker 1: swing the bats. I mean, Gunner Henderson's going to figure
- 50:45Speaker 1: it out, and he's starting to figure it out this week.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Pete's going to end up with thirty five forty plus.
- 50:51Speaker 1: There's enough offense here to keep up in my mind
- 50:54Speaker 1: and for me like, yeah, Shane Bos the start that
- 50:56Speaker 1: you got from him this week, that is a huge step.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I know, you got to put it together consistently. No,
- 51:01Speaker 1: you're shaking your head. That looked good. That's the that's
- 51:05Speaker 1: the guy that everyone's dreaming of where they're like, can
- 51:07Speaker 1: I get that a little more? I know you need
- 51:09Speaker 1: five in row seven innings. What was it one or
- 51:10Speaker 1: two runs and nine k's the other night. Really good.
- 51:14Speaker 2: That's how you beat the Rays, though. You beat the
- 51:16Speaker 2: Rays by letting them swing and miss somehow and letting
- 51:20Speaker 2: them put their ball in play like they're not going
- 51:23Speaker 2: to drive the ball out of the ballpark as much so,
- 51:26Speaker 2: Shane Baz I thought did a great job. I need
- 51:28Speaker 2: to see him be able to pitch for five straight
- 51:30Speaker 2: starts with his potential, because there's been a lot of
- 51:34Speaker 2: potential and he needs to be that guy for the
- 51:37Speaker 2: Orioles moving forward because he signed that extension and they're counting.
- 51:41Speaker 2: They're counting on him a lot.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Hey, did you guys see Tony Vtello talking about Giants
- 51:47Speaker 1: third base coach Hector Borg Giants are having some issues
- 51:50Speaker 1: on the bass paths. They asked if they he'd consider
- 51:54Speaker 1: replacing him, and by Tello said, I think we need
- 51:56Speaker 1: to pick up the info we got from the last
- 51:57Speaker 1: three days. I'll get together as a group. Since it
- 51:59Speaker 1: an off day, everybody's got some time and tell everybody
- 52:01Speaker 1: to gather up some thoughts and we need to look
- 52:03Speaker 1: at any possible way that we can improve, any possible
- 52:05Speaker 1: way to eliminate mistakes as well. And on him getting
- 52:10Speaker 1: the gig in the first place at third base coach,
- 52:12Speaker 1: he said, during the meetings we had at Oracle Park,
- 52:14Speaker 1: his name came up as a guy down in the
- 52:15Speaker 1: org who would uh, some would be truly disappointed if
- 52:18Speaker 1: for some reason he bound to another org. There are
- 52:20Speaker 1: guys who switch for various reasons, and sometimes if they're
- 52:22Speaker 1: even moving for a lateral position, if there's permission, you
- 52:25Speaker 1: can lose a guy, So that was kind of the
- 52:26Speaker 1: origin of it. The first time I was able to
- 52:28Speaker 1: meet him in person was in spring training and Susan
- 52:31Speaker 1: Sluster n FP Santangelo are digging into this more on
- 52:35Speaker 1: their show Splash It Territory, which is a hit. It's
- 52:37Speaker 1: a great show, so listen for more. I don't watch
- 52:40Speaker 1: every you know, Giants game, especially right now, because they
- 52:43Speaker 1: kind of stink. But thoughts on especially the last part
- 52:45Speaker 1: of the answer here.
- 52:49Speaker 2: I just don't understand. We've got to meet to discuss
- 52:51Speaker 2: whether or not we're going to replace the third base coach.
- 52:53Speaker 2: What are you the manager? Don't you have this decision
- 52:56Speaker 2: in your head? And if you don't know this whole,
- 52:59Speaker 2: this whole, the whole quote didn't make any sense to me.
- 53:02Speaker 2: I don't, I don't even I don't even honestly quote
- 53:06Speaker 2: you didn't meet him till spring training. That, yeah, all
- 53:10Speaker 2: of this just doesn't make Yeah, that's that's I'm confused. Also,
- 53:16Speaker 2: a JA, this dude is an extension of you out
- 53:20Speaker 2: on the field, So somebody convinced you to keep him, Robbie.
- 53:25Speaker 2: If that's the case, all coaches out there, you guys
- 53:27Speaker 2: better get your get your your LinkedIn baseball page and
- 53:32Speaker 2: hook up to as many people said, tons of people
- 53:34Speaker 2: can talk great about you.
- 53:37Speaker 1: That's the one that stuff for me. I mean your
- 53:39Speaker 1: coaching staff, like the director. I mean, I know the
- 53:41Speaker 1: coaching staffs are larger these days, but are you not
- 53:45Speaker 1: meeting with your coach that you're hiring is a new
- 53:48Speaker 1: manager that you Sometimes he's.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Given that you're given coaches though a lot of these
- 53:52Speaker 2: managers are given coaches. They don't get to pick their
- 53:55Speaker 2: staffs like they used to be able to pick your staff.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Now a lot of times you might get one or
- 54:00Speaker 2: two guys you get to pick, and the rest are
- 54:01Speaker 2: already given to you. So you got to be real careful.
- 54:04Speaker 2: You got to be able to get along. But I
- 54:06Speaker 2: mean the fact that he didn't see him until he
- 54:08Speaker 2: didn't meet him until spring training. And this is my
- 54:11Speaker 2: favorite quote. We need to pick up the information we
- 54:13Speaker 2: got from the last three days. What what what? What?
- 54:16Speaker 2: What information? What are we talking? A bad base running?
- 54:20Speaker 2: They were issues and there the word base coaches problem
- 54:25Speaker 2: in baseball. Yeah, it's it's the teeth they stink at
- 54:28Speaker 2: running the bases.
- 54:44Speaker 1: All right, let's slap a guy who we respect greatly
- 54:47Speaker 1: and is beloved in Pittsburgh. Might be done. Andrew McCutcheon,
- 54:52Speaker 1: d fad. You know, cut by the Rangers. He was
- 54:55Speaker 1: at one ninety five thirty seven ops, seventy three abs.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Nobody on the Rangers can it?
- 55:00Speaker 2: By the way, crappy a way for him to go out,
- 55:05Speaker 2: This is the end just just because he wasn't a Pirate.
- 55:08Speaker 2: He went back to Pittsburgh, and I don't know, it's
- 55:11Speaker 2: just a crappy way for one of the for one
- 55:13Speaker 2: of the good dudes in baseball. If this is the end,
- 55:15Speaker 2: a way to go out.
- 55:17Speaker 1: He's sitting better than marcel A Zuna. I mean, you
- 55:20Speaker 1: know that the Pirates offense is playing well, we're about
- 55:23Speaker 1: the same close crats. Is that what you said about close?
- 55:25Speaker 2: It's close. That's why I was looking up in the
- 55:27Speaker 2: break just to see. But I mean, Marcelo as got
- 55:30Speaker 2: one hundred and seventy some at bats, like it's tough
- 55:33Speaker 2: to it's tough to get sporadic at bats against lefties, like,
- 55:38Speaker 2: especially for a guy who controls his own so well
- 55:40Speaker 2: like Cutch, Like it's kind of a superpower that you're like, oh,
- 55:43Speaker 2: I saw that yesterday. I saw that. Oh I saw
- 55:45Speaker 2: that three days ago. It's a little bit different. But
- 55:48Speaker 2: maybe I'm just maybe I'm just making caveats for a friend,
- 55:52Speaker 2: and it's tough to see it this way. I hope
- 55:56Speaker 2: he can still help a team. I think he can,
- 55:58Speaker 2: But again, I have a bias. I have a jaded lens.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Yes that's fair. Yeah, beloved player in the sport for
- 56:08Speaker 1: a while, and clearly yes, is he a star?
- 56:11Speaker 2: No?
- 56:11Speaker 1: Is he a big leaguer. We're about to find out
- 56:13Speaker 1: if another team scoops him up for the rest of
- 56:16Speaker 1: the season. Here it was a weird rocky boat at
- 56:20Speaker 1: the end there with the Pirates over the offseason. Couldn't
- 56:23Speaker 1: really tell if they actually were interested in him or
- 56:26Speaker 1: if he just didn't like the offer. At some point
- 56:27Speaker 1: we'll get touch on and we can ask him what
- 56:30Speaker 1: really happened there. But anyway, hopefully he gets what he wants.
- 56:33Speaker 1: If he wants to keep rolling and there's a team
- 56:35Speaker 1: that's a fit, great Otherwise, announce the retirement and we
- 56:38Speaker 1: can celebrate a career that included some really superstar, standout seasons.
- 56:43Speaker 1: But the bigger problem for the Rangers right now too
- 56:46Speaker 1: is they got to just they got to figure out
- 56:47Speaker 1: some offense.
- 56:48Speaker 2: Jeez can't hit it all at home at all.
- 56:56Speaker 1: And you can have fun with a little game that
- 56:58Speaker 1: helps you get a little bootist boost or a bonus.
- 57:01Speaker 1: It's called the Swing for the Fences, free to play
- 57:04Speaker 1: game on the bet MGM app Swing for a Daily
- 57:06Speaker 1: Shot twin. You can play every day you go in.
- 57:08Speaker 1: You pick an area of the zone. If you get
- 57:10Speaker 1: a knock, you get a prize. It's that simple. Prizes
- 57:13Speaker 1: include a fifty dollars bonus bet. You could win one
- 57:15Speaker 1: of those. You could win a parlay boost token if
- 57:17Speaker 1: you get a knock, Go check it out. Gambling problem
- 57:20Speaker 1: more concern called one one hundred gambler
