• 1:31
Speaker 1: We're going to start with this story about recalls.
• 1:33
Speaker 1: Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley's total compensation fell 6.1% last year to only $24,861,866 after the automaker failed to meet quality and electric vehicle sales targets.
• 1:45
Speaker 1: According to the automaker's annual proxy statement, farley's base salary was unchanged at $1.7 million, while his stock awards increased to about $300,000 compared with the year earlier because of an accounting formula change.
• 1:59
Speaker 2: Oh yeah creative accounting.
• 2:00
Speaker 1: Quality remains an issue with the company.
• 2:02
Speaker 1: The company has said it sacrificed some profits last year to improve launch quality and Farley said the next few years will be critical in Ford's quest to drive down warranties.
• 2:12
Speaker 1: So with that in mind, we start with the recalls the Ford Maverick for 2022 being recalled because of a loss of drive power from undetected low battery.
• 2:24

Speaker 1: And we move on A lot, because next we're going to talk about more recalls from the Ford F-250, 350, 450, 550.
• 3:10
Speaker 1: Wow, the Ford Maverick and the Lincoln Navigator all for 2022.
• 3:15
Speaker 1: Then software error may cause loss of drive power in the Ford Escape for 22, the Ford Maverick 22 to 24, and the Lincoln Corsair for 21 to 22.
• 3:25
Speaker 1: Wow and oh, we're not done.

• 3:44
Speaker 1: So what does it that shows up there?
• 3:46
Speaker 1: Is it a grandpa's image that shows?
• 3:50
Speaker 2: up on the display?
• 3:50
Speaker 2: Is it upside down?
• 3:51
Speaker 2: Is it not focused?

• 4:20
Speaker 2: Dearborn, All the 22s.
• 4:22
Speaker 2: They're just not discovering that three years later.
• 4:25
Speaker 1: It's not a good time up there, and poor Jim, he's hurting $18 million yeah.
• 4:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, with his big salary that he got last year.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: Hey Jim, how about working on that for us?

• 5:04
Speaker 1: They might want to go outside I don't know where they are, but if they're inside, you know, telephone signals seem to be a little weary down there.
• 5:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, depending on what city and all that good stuff there they are.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: Okay, so here's our first.

Speaker 1: It looks like a dark blue or black exterior.
• 6:01

• 10:20
Speaker 1: It sold for 14.7.

• 10:25
  Speaker 3: It's my neighbor's car.
• 10:27
Speaker 3: Oh God, Gee whiz.
• 10:29
Speaker 1: So that's this week's Hem Max Hemmings used car sound, all right.
• 10:32
Speaker 1: Well, it looks like we've somehow been angled some sort of a deal here with the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
• 10:44
  Speaker 1: Don't ask.
• 10:45
  Speaker 3: We got them.
• 10:46
  Speaker 1: That's it.
• 10:46
Speaker 1: Was it your problem, morris?
• 10:48
  Speaker 1: I'm not sure.
• 10:49
Speaker 1: Sarah and Scott are on the line with us.
• 10:51
  Speaker 1: Good afternoon.
• 10:53
Speaker 1: Well, it depends on where you are, but we're just going to call it a morning afternoon.
• 10:58
  Speaker 1: How's that?
• 10:58
  Speaker 1: It's lunchtime, mid-morning Okay, mid-morning, we'll go with that.
• 11:03
Speaker 1: How are y'all doing?
• 11:04
  Speaker 1: Good?
• 11:05
Speaker 3: Good yeah, we finally hear you.
• 11:07
Speaker 1: Well, you're not at the drag strip, so apparently it's not that good.
• 11:10
Speaker 1: And you're talking to us.
• 11:11
  Speaker 1: That's next weekend.
• 11:11
Speaker 3: You're talking to us, that's next weekend.
• 11:13
Speaker 1: That's next weekend, okay, so tell everybody what is the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
• 11:18
  Speaker 1: Let's define it.
• 11:27
Speaker 4: Texas Muscle Car Challenge is the largest club-on-club drag racing association in America.
• 11:32
Speaker 4: Clubs will compete against each other, whether it's a small club with three or four cars or a large club like ours it has 30 cars.
• 11:39
Speaker 4: It's divided into different categories depending on the size of your club 5a is the largest, 3a is the smallest and then we have a 4a which is in between.
• 11:47
Speaker 4: We also do individual, so you can sign up for what we call driver's rewards and compete individually against other drivers that are signed up for driver's reward.
• 12:01
Speaker 4: But the main emphasis is club on club or team on team, however you want to term it.
• 12:07
Speaker 1: Huh, and so you don't go to every NHR race across America?
• 12:13
Speaker 1: How do you select where you go?
• 12:17
Speaker 4: drag racing A lot of it is.
• 12:19
Speaker 4: I'll give you a brief overview of how I did the schedule this year, please.
• 12:23
Speaker 4: Yes, I called a number of tracks throughout Texas and Oklahoma, kind of presented to them what we do it's a bracket racing association so presented that to them, told them what we're about and how our fee setup is, gave them the opportunity to give us some dates that work for them.
• 12:51
Speaker 4: A couple of tracks weren't interested.
• 12:53
Speaker 4: Some tracks, like we're going down to Houston this year.
• 12:57
Speaker 4: We've never been there.
• 12:58
Speaker 4: I've been there to visit, to check it out, but we've never been there to race.
• 13:01
Speaker 4: They're interested in having us.
• 13:03
Speaker 4: Some tracks we've been to before.
• 13:05
Speaker 4: They're interested in having us back.
• 13:08
Speaker 4: So we've kind of spread it out this year where we're going to Houston, we're going to San Angelo, we're going up to Thunder Valley in Oklahoma, but we're also staying around the Metroplex and going to Extreme and going to the Motorplex because we've been there before.
• 13:22
Speaker 4: So that's kind of how we.
• 13:25
Speaker 4: You know, like I said, a lot of it's up to the track if they have open dates that work for our schedule.
• 13:32
Speaker 4: We don't want to race in July and August.
• 13:34
  Speaker 4: It's too hot.
• 13:35
Speaker 4: As you know, the tracks get greasy when it gets hot.
• 13:38
Speaker 4: So we're trying to avoid those months, so to speak, unless we absolutely have to, and this year everything worked out.
• 13:49
Speaker 1: We're not racing in July.
• 13:50
Speaker 4: So when's the first race?
• 13:51
Speaker 4: First race is a week from tomorrow at Extreme.
• 13:54
Speaker 4: The first race is a week from tomorrow at Xtreme.
• 13:57
Speaker 4: We open up on Sunday, the 23rd, at 9 am, and then the week after that we're down in Temple at Little River.
• 14:04
Speaker 3: Now Xtreme is south of Dallas, right.
• 14:06
  Speaker 3: Excuse me.
• 14:07
Speaker 3: Xtreme the Xtreme Raceway, it's located south of Dallas.
• 14:12
Speaker 4: Xtreme Raceway is located in Ferris, Texas.
• 14:14
Speaker 4: Yeah right, okay, down, I down 9 45 down south dallas.
• 14:21
Speaker 4: Okay, I would say it's about 20 minutes north of the of the texas motorplex, so they're pretty close very good, okay, and is it an eighth mile or quarter mile?
• 14:29
Speaker 4: That track is an eighth mile um.
• 14:32
Speaker 4: The only quarter mile tracks we have this year are Thunder Valley is a quarter mile up in Oklahoma and the Motorplex is a quarter mile, of course, down in Ennis.
• 14:43
Speaker 1: Yeah Well, it sounds like a ton of fun.
• 14:46
Speaker 1: I don't know why you wouldn't want to join up and, as opposed to going as an individual this way, you've got other people that not only you compete against, you compete with, and I just it rings all the bells for me, being a longtime drag race enthusiast, and so I assume that you guys have a set of rules that we all have to live by to race in your league.
• 15:14
Speaker 4: Yes, the rules we adapt.
• 15:16
Speaker 4: Most of our rules are adopted from NHRA.
• 15:19
Speaker 4: We have a few that are our own.
• 15:24
Speaker 4: The basic rules are safety wise.
• 15:28
Speaker 4: We don't want anybody to uh outrun their safety equipment.
• 15:32
Speaker 4: So, if you have a fast car, we want to make sure you have the proper safety equipment, um, whether that's a helmet, whether that's a fire suit, roll cage, whatever, um, and we check, uh, we don't just, you know, go by the honor system because, as you know, any crack they can Do you hear my laughter?
• 15:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, Do you hear the laughter?
• 15:56
  Speaker 1: The honor system.
• 15:57
Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, hey, you know, all of the regular Lay's potato chips seem to be gone this week out of the honor system and there's no money in the kitty.
• 16:08
Speaker 1: What gives Somebody stole the?
• 16:10
Speaker 4: Lay's, it's funny you say that, because I say it's kind of like you leave a cookie on the counter.
• 16:16
Speaker 4: Tell your kids you're going to be gone for a couple hours and hope that cookie's there when you get back.
• 16:20
Speaker 4: That ain't going to happen.
• 16:23
Speaker 1: Yes, because we know how we are.
• 16:28
Speaker 4: Right, that ain't gonna happen.
• 16:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, because we know how we are right and, technically, if I had my way and I've been doing this a very long time everybody, regardless if they're in the stock class or in the fastest class, would wear a helmet.
• 16:36
Speaker 4: We can't do that because we get we get a lot of pushback, but we do require from I think it's king class on up you have to have a helm, you have to have a fire jacket, everybody has to have pants and we get some pushback.
• 16:58
Speaker 1: Well, that leaves Jeff Zekin out, because he does not wear pants ever.
• 17:03
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I'd race naked if they let me.
• 17:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, especially mean I'd race naked, if they let me yeah, especially June and September, and that's where we get the pushback is some of the people.
• 17:13
Speaker 4: It's too hot to wear pants and I'm like look, I wear a fire suit, full fire suit, with a helmet.
• 17:18
Speaker 4: So don't tell me how hot it is, unless you're in my shoes.
• 17:22
Speaker 1: Well, it sounds like a ton of fun.
• 17:24
Speaker 1: How do we get more information?
• 17:25
Speaker 1: I'm a dragster, a drag guy, and I want to go drag racing and I'm interested in your club.
• 17:38

Speaker 1: Come on out for the open house.
• 21:39
Speaker 3: We'll be there from 10 to noon or 1 or whatever it is.
• 21:40
Speaker 3: They would like for you to make reservations and remind you that no one under 12 is coming in.
• 21:44
Speaker 1: Okay, thank you, sir.
• 21:45
Speaker 1: Time now for Jeff's Car Culture Road trip arguments.
• 21:49
Speaker 2: Oh God, we've all had them, you know we have, and not all of us.
• 21:52
Speaker 2: I have this is a survey done either?
• 21:53
Speaker 2: Well, it's been done in the United States and also in Great Britain.
• 21:56
Speaker 2: So they say that one in three admit to an argument.
• 21:59
Speaker 2: More than a third of drivers admit to having an argument while driving in their car.
• 22:08
Speaker 2: This study found that there was about 36% of motorists confessed to having carguments that's what they're called Carguments.
• 22:11
Speaker 2: Okay, so one part of the survey about 2,000 motorists discovered that 50% of the ages of 25 to 44 argued while driving, compared to just about a quarter.
• 22:23
Speaker 2: 25% of people over 70 get in arguments with Martha or Gladys, whoever they are.
• 22:29
Speaker 2: It's been revealed on the state side that 46% of people are admitting to bickering behind the wheel.
• 22:35
  Speaker 2: But, not surprising.
• 22:36
Speaker 2: Most disagreements occur between partners and break out when setting out.
• 22:42
Speaker 2: For the day that woman's got a roadmap in her hand.
• 22:44
Speaker 2: There's also a little theme with these photographs, I'll tell you.
• 22:46
Speaker 2: For the day that woman's got a roadmap in her hand, there's also a little theme with these photographs.
• 22:47
Speaker 2: I'll tell you at the end.
• 22:47
Speaker 2: A similar number about 25% of people also get into arguments while visiting with family, family members in the car or going on a family trip.
• 22:56
Speaker 2: About 21% of people said that in-car conflicts were caused by what?
• 23:00
  Speaker 2: Shopping tips.
• 23:02
Speaker 2: Oh my God, who does that?
• 23:05
  Speaker 2: I'm thinking it's the women.
• 23:06
Speaker 2: So just saying Most have about half, about 46% of all arguments centered around directions, while about 39% are based on standard driving procedures.
• 23:17
Speaker 2: You know, turn left here, you're going too fast.
• 23:19
Speaker 2: Watch out for that school bus, all that stuff.
• 23:21
Speaker 2: The stress of leaving on time for a summer holiday or a day together in that confined environment of a car is a perfect recipe for an argument.
• 23:30
Speaker 2: You want to add children to the equation, or perhaps the in-laws?
• 23:34
Speaker 2: Not so much of a question and argument, but it's going to happen.
• 23:37
Speaker 2: When it starts, no one knows.
• 23:39
Speaker 2: And then there's those driving hundreds of miles who have no longer being able to get out of the car to start their disagreement.
• 23:46
Speaker 2: So it's also amusing.
• 23:48
Speaker 2: The error of satellite navigation, directions and choice of route, all that technology arguments still happen.
• 23:55
  Speaker 2: So be careful.
• 23:56
Speaker 2: Driving is a complex task that requires drivers full attention in order to get from A to B without incident.
• 24:02
Speaker 2: But research has revealed a large portion.
• 24:05
Speaker 2: Admit to having in-car arguments.
• 24:08
  Speaker 2: There you go.
• 24:10
Speaker 1: God, you know there are a couple of those that come to mind.
• 24:14
Speaker 2: Well, we're going on a hot rod tour.
• 24:15
Speaker 1: One of those arguments and that was with a former wife Just saying Just thought I'd throw that out.
• 24:19
Speaker 1: With a former wife Just saying, just thought I'd throw that out there, oh boy Okay.
• 24:23
Speaker 1: All right Time now for this hour's car review.
• 24:25
Speaker 1: Speaking of wives, Mike Mars has a review of the Subaru WRX.
• 24:30
Speaker 3: TS yes, and it's interesting to note that the TRS is a new trim level for this year.
• 24:35
Speaker 2: Wait a minute, wait, wait, wait.
• 24:36
  Speaker 2: No, the TRS.
• 24:38
Speaker 3: My bad, I'm reading ahead.
• 24:40
Speaker 3: The WRX TS is a new trim level for 2025.
• 24:43
Speaker 3: So there are four this year the Premium, the Limited, the TS, which is the new one, and then the GT.
• 24:49
Speaker 3: We were talking about the TS, that's the one we were driving.
• 24:53
Speaker 3: Now this is a sports sedan, so it's kind of a.
• 24:57
Speaker 3: The TS is a sport, sportier, track Model.
• 25:01
Speaker 3: It's not for the track, but it's more directed towards the track With the way it's set up, the way things, the technology and things, just move on the Up front you're going to find the LED headlights.
• 25:11
Speaker 3: You're going to find they're automatic on, but they have height adjustment and they have steering responsive, so it's really cool.
• 25:18
Speaker 3: So you get the headlights to turn when you want them to.
• 25:20
Speaker 3: Got black mirror side covers.
• 25:23
Speaker 3: Got a rear lip spoiler that's black.
• 25:24
Speaker 3: So it's got a lot of black trim pieces to go on this thing, including the wheels, to give it that sporty look.
• 25:30
  Speaker 3: Now it does.
• 25:32
Speaker 3: Also, I was interested to find out that it has an aluminum hood.
• 25:36
Speaker 3: Now that scoop that's on it that everybody knows from the WRX.
• 25:39
Speaker 3: That is part of that aluminum hood and the front fenders are also aluminum because some gold Brembo braking system set up on it.
• 25:47
Speaker 3: Now we were rolling on the 19-inch aluminum wheels which are standard on the TS package.
• 25:52
Speaker 3: And it does not have a spare.
• 25:54
Speaker 3: It has a retire repair kit, so you need to know that.
• 25:57
Speaker 3: And it also has a moonroof delete.
• 26:00
Speaker 3: Again back to that performance concept of this particular trim level.
• 26:03
Speaker 3: Now, inside you're going to find the black ultra suede, ultra suede and leather seating surfaces.
• 26:08
Speaker 3: Front seats are heated.
• 26:09
  Speaker 3: They're recaro seating.
• 26:11
Speaker 3: Up front in this particular model it's a 60 40 rear folding seat.
• 26:14
Speaker 3: Now it does have an 11.6 inch multimedia monitor in the middle of it.
• 26:19
Speaker 3: Now this is the audio the audio AC, the phone, your rear vision camera all that's going to be in there your convenience controls.
• 26:25
Speaker 3: Now it has a new 12.3 inch digital gauge cluster for the driver.
• 26:30
Speaker 3: That's where you're going to find all your performance settings that you can set up to monitor how your vehicle's doing.
• 26:35
Speaker 3: Now there are a lot more controls in this vehicle, but some of the other manufacturers are doing the same thing they're burying them down in.
• 26:43
Speaker 3: You've got to go down into that monitor in the middle to find some of these things that normally or you used to be able to find them on a button.
• 26:49
Speaker 3: So you've got to do a little digging there.
• 26:51
Speaker 3: Harman Kardon audio system, 11 speakers with a 500-watt amp is more than enough to fill this thing up with nice sounds.
• 26:58
Speaker 3: Enough to fill this thing up with nice sounds.
• 27:05
  Speaker 3: 2.4.
• 27:05
Speaker 3: 2.4 liter turbo, flat boxer type engine, 271 horsepower, 258 pound-feet of torque.
• 27:08
Speaker 3: We had the six-speed manual transmission, which it was really nice to get into a manual after burning automatics for so long.
• 27:13
Speaker 3: Epa, I didn't get a monroney with this vehicle, so I had to do a little digging.
• 27:17
Speaker 3: But it appears that the epa should be looking at 16 I mean 19 on the city highway, 26 combined for 22 now.
• 27:25
Speaker 3: I drove this vehicle 352 point miles and I got 23.7 out of it and I was very happy with that.
• 27:30
Speaker 3: With this vehicle, sport tune suspension does have several different modes, including comfort, normal sport.
• 27:36
Speaker 3: Uh, the sport seating will wrap around you, hold you in place if you're going into the curves a little bit much.
• 27:42
Speaker 3: This is not a drag car.
• 27:43
Speaker 3: If you want to play with this car, you want to get out to where there are some curves because you've got all-wheel drive with very responsive steering.
• 27:50
Speaker 3: Now the premium, the base level on it, is 35,750.
• 27:55
Speaker 3: The TS trim level that we were dealing with is 45,750.
• 27:58
Speaker 3: And again, I did not get a Monroney, so I don't have an MSRP specifically for this vehicle.
• 28:03
Speaker 3: But something you can look at to compare it to is the Volkswagen Golf R 48,325.
• 28:08
Speaker 3: Toyota GR Corolla 43,529.
• 28:13
Speaker 3: And an Audi S3 is 48,700.
• 28:15
Speaker 3: So these are all small sports sedans that you might want to look at if you're looking for something in that very competitive segment.
• 28:22
  Speaker 1: Thank you, sir.
• 28:22
Speaker 1: And Wheel Time Car Talk Show continues after this.
