Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / Birds Weekly: Ray Didinger, Derrick Gunn Preview Week 14 Philadelphia Eagles vs. Chargers
Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome to another preview edition of Birds Weekly,
- 0:13Speaker 1: presented by the Inside the Person Network for a Ray Dendrum,
- 0:16Speaker 1: Derek Gunn and the eagles next opponent, the Los Angeles Chargers.
- 0:21Speaker 1: You know they always say the best way to get
- 0:23Speaker 1: the bad taste of a loss out of your mouth
- 0:25Speaker 1: is get right back in there and play another opponent.
- 0:28Speaker 1: But in this case, the Eagles will be better be
- 0:31Speaker 1: aware of what they asked for, because going out West
- 0:35Speaker 1: to play these Chargers is no joke. But Ray, an
- 0:38Speaker 1: interesting development occurred on Sunday. The Chargers beat the Raiders
- 0:44Speaker 1: thirty one to fourteen to get to eight and four.
- 0:46Speaker 1: They are number two in the AFC West. They are
- 0:49Speaker 1: the five seed overall in the AFC. But their franchise
- 0:53Speaker 1: quarterback Justin Herbert, early in that game broke a bone
- 0:57Speaker 1: in his left hand, his non throwing hand. He left
- 1:01Speaker 1: the game, came back and finished the game. Then we
- 1:03Speaker 1: find out after the game he's going to have surgery
- 1:06Speaker 1: on the hand on Monday. Now he says he's proceeding
- 1:09Speaker 1: as if he's going to play next Monday night against
- 1:11Speaker 1: the Eagles. His head coach, Jim Harbaugh says, we don't
- 1:15Speaker 1: know if he's going to miss any time. I'm sure
- 1:17Speaker 1: it's all gamesmanship right now. But boy, wouldn't that be
- 1:21Speaker 1: something if he didn't play against the Eagles next Monday night.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It really would be. I saw the film of his
- 1:29Speaker 2: press conference in which he was very matter of fact
- 1:34Speaker 2: about no, I'm going to play. I mean, it wasn't
- 1:36Speaker 2: even like, well we'll see how this goes, or I
- 1:39Speaker 2: need to talk to the doctors or anything like that.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I mean, it came up and he said, yeah, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 2: I'm going to get surgery, but yeah, I'm playing Monday night.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Don't even worry about that. So now that's what he's saying.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, he was he was hardly
- 1:55Speaker 2: out of the game at all. I mean he went
- 1:57Speaker 2: out and then came right back in and it was
- 2:00Speaker 2: interesting though they didn't put him under center at all.
- 2:03Speaker 2: After that. He played the rest of the game from
- 2:05Speaker 2: the shotgun because I guess to protect his hand from
- 2:08Speaker 2: the impact of the ball. I would guess that he
- 2:12Speaker 2: would probably have to do something like that again if
- 2:14Speaker 2: he were playing next week. So but it is, you know,
- 2:18Speaker 2: it is his non throwing hand. I guess he could
- 2:20Speaker 2: do it. But you know what, Derek. It seems to
- 2:23Speaker 2: me if Jim Harbaugh, who loves to run the football anyway,
- 2:29Speaker 2: he's going to spend this week watching the film of
- 2:31Speaker 2: what the Chicago Bears did to the Eagles defense last week,
- 2:35Speaker 2: he's you know, I mean, he could just have Justin
- 2:37Speaker 2: Herbert come out there with boxing gloves on both hands
- 2:41Speaker 2: and always going to have to do is hand it off,
- 2:43Speaker 2: because I don't think he's going to be throwing the
- 2:45Speaker 2: ball a whole heck of a lot next Monday night.
- 2:48Speaker 2: If they're controlling the line of scrimmage the way the
- 2:50Speaker 2: Bears controlled the line of scrimmage last Friday.
- 2:54Speaker 1: If there's one thing we know, it's that Jim Harbaugh
- 2:57Speaker 1: loves to pound the rock. There's no question about that. Now.
- 3:02Speaker 1: On Black Friday, we learned about a Chicago running back
- 3:06Speaker 1: named Manongi. You know, I had never heard much about
- 3:09Speaker 1: this kid, but he made a name for himself on
- 3:12Speaker 1: National TV this past Friday. And when you look at
- 3:16Speaker 1: the Chargers, they have a young man named Kamani Videll
- 3:19Speaker 1: and obviously he's become the feature back because Najie Harris
- 3:23Speaker 1: suffered an achilles injury back in September. He's on the
- 3:25Speaker 1: ir But this young man, all he's done is he's
- 3:29Speaker 1: carried the ball, you know, over a hundred times this season.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Is five hundred and forty three yards rushing and he's
- 3:34Speaker 1: averaging almost four and a half yards per Carrie, do
- 3:37Speaker 1: you have any book on this kid. I haven't seen
- 3:39Speaker 1: him play.
- 3:41Speaker 2: If anything, he's he's had three hundred yard games.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Geez.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And he's a leading rusher on the team. They have
- 3:50Speaker 2: a running game that is. He was a six round
- 3:53Speaker 2: draft pick last year, was released this year, and he
- 4:00Speaker 2: his profile reads a lot like Menanji. Really. I mean,
- 4:03Speaker 2: he's a low round draft pick, nobody expected anything. Came in,
- 4:07Speaker 2: made the team last year as a sixth round pick,
- 4:09Speaker 2: got released this summer. Uh. And then they brought him back. Uh.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And when they had some other injuries, they brought him
- 4:18Speaker 2: back and he wound up being the number one guy.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And and he's gotten an opportunity and taking advantage of
- 4:25Speaker 2: it uh and had a real big game today. This
- 4:28Speaker 2: was This was the best game of his career so far.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So yeah. I mean the Chargers have had a lot
- 4:35Speaker 2: of issues, most of them in the offensive line with injuries.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I mean, they started this year looking at the looking
- 4:43Speaker 2: at the construction of their team. I mean, one of
- 4:45Speaker 2: the things you said was, man, they got two really
- 4:47Speaker 2: good tackles, you know, they got they got Alt and
- 4:50Speaker 2: they got Slater, who were two really elite tackles to
- 4:54Speaker 2: protect Justin Herbert and now they're both gone. Uh, And
- 4:58Speaker 2: that whole offensive line has been had to be reshuffled
- 5:02Speaker 2: and remade, and frankly hasn't been very good, especially in
- 5:05Speaker 2: the area of protecting the quarterback. But they've been good
- 5:10Speaker 2: enough to win enough games that you know they're they're
- 5:12Speaker 2: right in the thick of the playoff race. And this
- 5:15Speaker 2: kid Fidal has kind of come out of nowhere and
- 5:19Speaker 2: given them a running game. And you know, the Eagles
- 5:21Speaker 2: are going to have to obviously do a much better
- 5:24Speaker 2: job holding the line of scrimmage on Monday night than
- 5:27Speaker 2: they did against the Bears, who are, by the way,
- 5:29Speaker 2: now the number one seed in the NFL.
- 5:33Speaker 1: You believe that unbelievable.
- 5:35Speaker 2: You believe that we were looking at last week, we
- 5:38Speaker 2: were looking ahead of the Eagles Bears game, and you
- 5:40Speaker 2: and I were looking at that eight and three Bears
- 5:42Speaker 2: record and sort of saying, I don't know if these
- 5:45Speaker 2: guys are really all that they're beating a lot of
- 5:48Speaker 2: bad teams. They've squeaked out a couple of one point wins.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You know, I don't really know if if if they're
- 5:54Speaker 2: a legitimate contender. Geez, you know, a couple of days later,
- 5:58Speaker 2: now they're a number one seed the NFC. But it
- 6:01Speaker 2: just sort of goes back to saying what we said
- 6:03Speaker 2: all year. This is to me the most wide open
- 6:06Speaker 2: NFL season I can remember. I mean, from week to week,
- 6:11Speaker 2: all of a sudden, justin were ready to say, yeah,
- 6:13Speaker 2: the Rams are the team. The Rams go to Carolina
- 6:16Speaker 2: and get beat. So what a nutty season this has been?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, in another interesting game, Houston goes into
- 6:23Speaker 1: Indy and beats Indianapolis, which was the highest scoring team
- 6:27Speaker 1: in the NFL. Houston had the number one defense and
- 6:31Speaker 1: defense prevailed in that game. So you're right as we
- 6:34Speaker 1: sit here right now, Ray, I couldn't even begin to
- 6:37Speaker 1: tell you who a favorite might be from the NFC
- 6:40Speaker 1: in the AFC to represent their conferences in the Super Bowl,
- 6:45Speaker 1: because it's that wide opening as you, as you and
- 6:47Speaker 1: I were talking about, if somehow, some way the Eagles
- 6:51Speaker 1: could get their act together, it is right there for
- 6:54Speaker 1: the taking.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It is it really is. And we've been saying that
- 6:58Speaker 2: all year.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Uh.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And you really thought at some point this thing is
- 7:04Speaker 2: going to shake out and and and a couple of
- 7:07Speaker 2: teams are going to emerge and they're going to be
- 7:09Speaker 2: the teams. And just like I did last year, I mean,
- 7:11Speaker 2: that's just the way seasons go. Uh and not this year.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I mean, here we're rolling in December now. Uh. And
- 7:21Speaker 2: you tell me who the best team is. I mean,
- 7:23Speaker 2: I don't know. You tell me who the two teams
- 7:26Speaker 2: going to be playing in the Super Bowl. I don't
- 7:27Speaker 2: have any idea. Uh. And yeah, I mean if the
- 7:31Speaker 2: Eagles could regroup, reorganize, get them get themselves straightened out here,
- 7:37Speaker 2: they can get right back in this thing.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Uh.
- 7:39Speaker 2: You know, I think that I know we've said this before,
- 7:44Speaker 2: but I'll say it again. If if, if they can,
- 7:48Speaker 2: if they can pull it together, I think, you know,
- 7:50Speaker 2: I think Monday Night's game is going to tell us
- 7:52Speaker 2: a lot, you know. I mean they're coming off two
- 7:54Speaker 2: back to back losses and they're going all the way
- 8:00Speaker 2: across the country to play a good Chargers team that
- 8:05Speaker 2: has a lot to play for too. Uh And and
- 8:09Speaker 2: I guess we'll see, you know, we'll guess we'll get
- 8:11Speaker 2: to see just how much of that that championship thing,
- 8:17Speaker 2: that championship, if that means anything to these guys, that
- 8:21Speaker 2: pride factor of being the defending champs, even though all
- 8:25Speaker 2: year that have kept putting aside the idea we're not
- 8:27Speaker 2: defending anything. We're not defending anything. We're not the defending Okay,
- 8:30Speaker 2: that's fine to say that, But somewhere deep inside, you know,
- 8:35Speaker 2: these guys look at themselves as the champs until proven otherwise.
- 8:39Speaker 2: You know what, go show me Monday night. You know,
- 8:42Speaker 2: show me Monday night. You know you're the defending champ.
- 8:45Speaker 2: See you know, go show us Monday night. If that
- 8:47Speaker 2: really means anything to you, I'll tell you after getting
- 8:49Speaker 2: embarrassed on a prime on a prime time stage last Friday,
- 8:54Speaker 2: you got something to play for here. I mean to
- 8:56Speaker 2: keep your season alive, but also to re establish yourself
- 8:59Speaker 2: as a team that's worthy of being called a Super
- 9:02Speaker 2: Bowl champion.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Ray, as we sit here right now, I don't trust
- 9:05Speaker 1: this Eagle team. I don't trust him. The last game
- 9:08Speaker 1: and a half they have been manhandled. You go back
- 9:12Speaker 1: to the second half in a Dallas game, and of
- 9:14Speaker 1: course all four quarters against Chicago I mean on both
- 9:18Speaker 1: sides of the football. Now, they're not playing anything like
- 9:21Speaker 1: the team we expected and the team that was playing
- 9:24Speaker 1: earlier this season. He defensively more so than offensively. I
- 9:30Speaker 1: honestly don't know, Ray, what to expect from this team anymore.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, the penalties, the mental mistakes,
- 9:39Speaker 1: the physical miscues, the quarterback in consistency. I don't know
- 9:44Speaker 1: who this team is right now, Ray, Yeah, I think that.
- 9:49Speaker 2: The point is the offense hasn't looked right all year.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I mean, the offense has you know, has been coughing
- 9:57Speaker 2: and sputtering like a fifty eight Chevy, I mean all year.
- 10:03Speaker 2: But so you know that you know that they were
- 10:06Speaker 2: struggling to get a first down, that they're struggling to
- 10:09Speaker 2: move the ball. What we saw against the Bear is
- 10:13Speaker 2: nothing surprising, because we've seen that all year. That was
- 10:16Speaker 2: fairly typical. What's really scary is is the way the
- 10:19Speaker 2: defense collapsed, because the defense is what kept them, has
- 10:23Speaker 2: kept them afloat to this point, and and that just
- 10:27Speaker 2: the damn just broke on Friday for sure. And so
- 10:31Speaker 2: now we'll see, you know, when they go out there
- 10:33Speaker 2: on Monday, because you know, the Chargers have their issues too.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I kind of think, based on the way Herbert was
- 10:40Speaker 2: speaking today, I kind of think Herbert is going to
- 10:42Speaker 2: play on Monday. I mean, if they can't, then a
- 10:45Speaker 2: Trey Lance. But again, I have a feeling knowing hardballs
- 10:50Speaker 2: propensity to want to run the ball anyway. I mean,
- 10:53Speaker 2: the offensive play call I probably won't change all that much.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I think he's going to come out and he's going
- 10:57Speaker 2: to want to run the ball at the Eagles in
- 10:59Speaker 2: this game, and let's see, if you know, let's see
- 11:02Speaker 2: if they're up to it. I mean it was you
- 11:05Speaker 2: look back at that Bears game. I mean I try
- 11:08Speaker 2: to look back at every Eagles game and watch it again.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I couldn't do it with this one. I mean, this
- 11:14Speaker 2: was just too awful. I know there's stuff you can
- 11:16Speaker 2: learn by watching the team, I couldn't watch it on
- 11:18Speaker 2: this one. Watching it once was enough for me, more
- 11:20Speaker 2: than enough. I mean, do you think about that. I mean,
- 11:24Speaker 2: the Bears ran eighty five plays in that game. I'm
- 11:27Speaker 2: still shocked ran eighty five plays. I mean, that's that's
- 11:32Speaker 2: ridiculous that you let that happen to you. Now, you
- 11:36Speaker 2: know everybody's talking about Mini buy a couple extra days
- 11:39Speaker 2: to prepare going to make any difference. I don't know,
- 11:42Speaker 2: because I'm kind of at the point that you were
- 11:44Speaker 2: just a couple of minutes ago. I don't trust this team.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I don't feel like I know this team. I don't
- 11:48Speaker 2: know what to expect. You know, they could come out
- 11:50Speaker 2: and play great on Monday. I don't expect that, but
- 11:53Speaker 2: they could, because you know, they kind of the Eagles
- 11:56Speaker 2: in many ways, kind of reflect the whole NFL this season.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Nothing makes sense from week to week. Just when you think,
- 12:03Speaker 2: just when you think you kind of got to figure
- 12:05Speaker 2: it out, something else happened. So you know, Monday night,
- 12:08Speaker 2: here comes another chapter. Hey, it's Jeff Mosher.

- 14:28Speaker 3: one and up.
- 14:29Speaker 1: You know, Ray, you touched on in a moment ago,
- 14:34Speaker 1: and I'm with you. I'd be shocked if Justin Herbert
- 14:37Speaker 1: is not under center for this team come Monday night.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But if there's a sliver of a chance Trey Lance
- 14:43Speaker 1: plays in this game. You know he was the forty
- 14:46Speaker 1: nine ers former first round pick back in twenty twenty one.
- 14:50Speaker 1: He missed all of twenty three, well, he missed most
- 14:54Speaker 1: of twenty two because of an ankle Andrew he missed
- 14:56Speaker 1: all of twenty three. Then he goes to Dallas for
- 14:58Speaker 1: one year. Now he's on his third team in five years.
- 15:02Speaker 1: He's only playing fourteen games in his career and he's
- 15:04Speaker 1: only completed fifty six percent of his passes. How much
- 15:07Speaker 1: does that change the dynamic? Now we know he's athletic,
- 15:10Speaker 1: he's a big kid, like six four five. We know
- 15:13Speaker 1: he's athletic. But how much does that change the dynamic
- 15:17Speaker 1: and the construction of what the Chargers want to do offensively?
- 15:22Speaker 1: If Justin Herbert can't go.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that I think you're going to be
- 15:29Speaker 2: leaning towards the run anyway. And if it's if it
- 15:33Speaker 2: turns out to be Lance, I don't think it will.
- 15:35Speaker 2: But if it would, then it probably just run it more,
- 15:38Speaker 2: you know, I mean they would probably just really I mean,
- 15:43Speaker 2: he would probably run it as much as throw it,
- 15:45Speaker 2: because we know he can do that. I mean, we
- 15:48Speaker 2: know that he can run the ball, and he's he's
- 15:50Speaker 2: and he is a threat running the ball. But I
- 15:54Speaker 2: think that there's not much of a chance of that.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I mean, this is a really I mean, we're just
- 16:00Speaker 2: looking at it from a Philadelphia standpoint how important this
- 16:02Speaker 2: game is to the Eagles. But if you want to
- 16:05Speaker 2: look at it from the other side, this is a
- 16:07Speaker 2: really important game for the Chargers because they're right, They're
- 16:09Speaker 2: right in the thick of it in the AFC West,
- 16:12Speaker 2: and you know they you know, they got to they
- 16:15Speaker 2: got to keep they got to keep winning to keep
- 16:17Speaker 2: themselves alive in this race too. And I fully expect
- 16:21Speaker 2: to see Herbert out there, maybe in a bit of
- 16:23Speaker 2: a limited basis, but I think i'd be I'd be
- 16:28Speaker 2: very surprised if if he was on the sidelines in
- 16:32Speaker 2: this game. I think he's going to I think he's
- 16:34Speaker 2: He clearly wants to play, and I think he will.
- 16:37Speaker 1: The Eagles have not been able to run the football
- 16:39Speaker 1: effectively except for one game all season long, and it
- 16:43Speaker 1: was shocking that against two of the more porous run
- 16:46Speaker 1: defenses in the NFL, in Dallas and Chicago, they still
- 16:50Speaker 1: couldn't run the football. Now you're about to face a
- 16:53Speaker 1: number four Chargers defense that only gives up one hundred
- 16:56Speaker 1: and six yards a game rushing. They are rugged, they
- 16:59Speaker 1: are fan I think the Eagles need that run game,
- 17:03Speaker 1: some kind of run game, to have a chance against
- 17:06Speaker 1: this Chargers defense, right, if they're won to mental, they
- 17:10Speaker 1: have to throw the ball again thirty five times a game.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I don't think they have a chance of winning this game.
- 17:15Speaker 2: No, No, I think they're going to have to. You know,
- 17:20Speaker 2: they're going to have to find some form of a
- 17:23Speaker 2: balanced offense here where you're going to have to run
- 17:26Speaker 2: the ball some to set up the pass. But you
- 17:30Speaker 2: know it's Hurts. Hurts played really poorly in the Chicago game.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I mean it's I mean, he wasn't the difference, but
- 17:42Speaker 2: this is one time where you could look at him
- 17:43Speaker 2: and say, you know, he played poorly. I mean, they've
- 17:46Speaker 2: had other games this year where the offense in general underperformed,
- 17:52Speaker 2: but you wouldn't have said, yeah, the quarterback was the
- 17:54Speaker 2: problem Friday. The quarterback is a problem. And if that
- 17:59Speaker 2: happens again on Monday, they're gonna have trouble winning that
- 18:02Speaker 2: game because I don't see them all of a sudden
- 18:05Speaker 2: coming in here and running for two hundred yards. I
- 18:08Speaker 2: just don't see it. They're they just haven't shown me
- 18:11Speaker 2: that all year, but the exception of the second Giants game.
- 18:15Speaker 2: But to be able to do to expect them to
- 18:17Speaker 2: be able to do that against what is a pretty
- 18:20Speaker 2: stout run defense. I don't I don't expect that. I mean,
- 18:24Speaker 2: they're gonna have to get They're gonna have to get
- 18:26Speaker 2: a much sharper, much better performance from the quarterback to
- 18:29Speaker 2: have some chance of winning out there.
- 18:31Speaker 1: You know, one of the players to keep an eye
- 18:34Speaker 1: on in this in this Chargers game is this safety
- 18:37Speaker 1: Derwin James. When I look at him play Ray, I
- 18:42Speaker 1: physically hurt after watching him play because the man reminds
- 18:46Speaker 1: me a lot of old school style football, Jack Tatum
- 18:49Speaker 1: style football. When he puts a pop on you, everybody
- 18:52Speaker 1: in the stadium knows he hits you. And and that's
- 18:55Speaker 1: an intimidating factor because I've seen receivers go over the
- 18:58Speaker 1: middle and Ale arm passes knowing he's coming at him.
- 19:02Speaker 1: And that's a psychological element the Eagles are going to
- 19:06Speaker 1: have to be aware of. Now. Obviously, aj is a
- 19:08Speaker 1: big body and can take a licking, and do we
- 19:11Speaker 1: know DeVante can take a licking. But the presence of
- 19:14Speaker 1: Derwin James on that back end of that defense is
- 19:17Speaker 1: definitely something to keep a close eye on.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't see a lot of guys like that
- 19:25Speaker 2: in the league anymore, you know, I think the rules,
- 19:29Speaker 2: the way the games officiated now has taken a lot
- 19:31Speaker 2: of that stuff out of the game. And I think
- 19:35Speaker 2: even guys who have that kind of that kind of
- 19:38Speaker 2: frame and that kind of physicality, they don't you don't
- 19:42Speaker 2: see it as much. But he's not. He's not shy
- 19:46Speaker 2: about using it because that is I mean, that's a
- 19:49Speaker 2: big part of his game, is that intimidation factor. If
- 19:52Speaker 2: you're coming across the middle against this team, you've got
- 19:54Speaker 2: to be thinking about him. And he's he's very very good.
- 20:00Speaker 2: That's a defense, that's that's I mean, they're strong. I
- 20:04Speaker 2: mean they're good at them. They're good at the on
- 20:06Speaker 2: the defensive line. I mean this Trully two we pull
- 20:10Speaker 2: O two oh is really good player. I mean, watching today,
- 20:18Speaker 2: I got a greater appreciation for him. He's he's really good.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I mean he he had like seven tackles today. He
- 20:25Speaker 2: had like four tackles for loss. He had a couple
- 20:28Speaker 2: of sacks. Very active player. And the Eagles, who clearly
- 20:33Speaker 2: have issues on the offensive line, you know they're gonna
- 20:36Speaker 2: have to deal with him. They're gonna have to They're
- 20:37Speaker 2: gonna have to try and find some way of neutralizing
- 20:40Speaker 2: him because he was a very big factor and then
- 20:43Speaker 2: winning this game today. Not that the Raiders are any
- 20:46Speaker 2: kind of a team, but he played very well. And yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 2: I think this is this is gonna be real tough
- 20:53Speaker 2: for This is gonna be a really tough game for
- 20:55Speaker 2: the Eagles. I haven't seen the points spread yet, so
- 20:58Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm I'm assuming, I'm assuming the Chargers favorite,
- 21:02Speaker 2: but I don't know that for a fact.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Now I've not seen the spread either for the upcoming game.
- 21:10Speaker 1: We both agree that Jalen Hurts has some soul searching
- 21:15Speaker 1: to do, and now we're not and I'm not just
- 21:18Speaker 1: pinning this on Jalen, but it starts with the quarterback,
- 21:22Speaker 1: especially coming off that performance he had against Chicago. If
- 21:26Speaker 1: you're Jalen, if you can get inside the mind of
- 21:29Speaker 1: Jalen Ray, what should he be saying all the way
- 21:33Speaker 1: up to that game next Monday night against the Chargers.
- 21:35Speaker 1: What should he be thinking in terms of trying to
- 21:39Speaker 1: turn things around individually leading up to that game.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I would think that he understands what's at stake here.
- 21:51Speaker 2: I think that he It's one of the things about
- 21:57Speaker 2: him is over the course of his career in Philadelphia
- 22:03Speaker 2: is there have been occasions, even though people keep quoting
- 22:08Speaker 2: and you should his one loss record, you know, his
- 22:12Speaker 2: winning percentage, the number of games he's won, you know
- 22:15Speaker 2: how many you know, he's won eighteen of his last
- 22:19Speaker 2: twenty two star all those numbers that people throw around,
- 22:21Speaker 2: which it's a matter of record. I mean, come on,
- 22:24Speaker 2: I mean, you're not wrong in citing it. But throughout
- 22:28Speaker 2: all of that, every time he has a bad game
- 22:32Speaker 2: or two, you start to hear the questions about, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 2: I'm not so sure that he's really the guy, or
- 22:40Speaker 2: you know, I'm not really sure that he throws the
- 22:42Speaker 2: ball that well, I'm not sure that if you have
- 22:45Speaker 2: a game where he has to where it has to
- 22:46Speaker 2: come down to him throwing the ball, that he can
- 22:48Speaker 2: win or what we're getting last year, which was, yeah,
- 22:52Speaker 2: this offense are scoring a lot of points or win
- 22:54Speaker 2: a lot of games. But it's really the line and
- 22:56Speaker 2: it's Barkley and he's just a game manager. You know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: it's I mean, that kind of stuff for a guy
- 23:02Speaker 2: who's won a lot of games in a Super Bowl MVP,
- 23:06Speaker 2: taking a team's Super Bowl twice in the last three years,
- 23:08Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's a pretty good resume. But yet
- 23:11Speaker 2: there have been he has his critics. I mean, you
- 23:14Speaker 2: hear it, I hear it.
- 23:15Speaker 1: We all so.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And every time that gets louder than a murmur, you know,
- 23:22Speaker 2: every time it becomes like really a topic of conversation
- 23:25Speaker 2: where you get the feeling people are genuinely questioning him,
- 23:29Speaker 2: he generally responds, I mean that's you know, when when
- 23:32Speaker 2: it's you know, when when that starts to get when
- 23:34Speaker 2: that chatter starts to get kind of loud. I mean,
- 23:38Speaker 2: he won't ever address it or let on that he's
- 23:41Speaker 2: hearing it or it's bothering him, but he generally comes
- 23:44Speaker 2: back with a big game, and this would certainly be
- 23:48Speaker 2: the time to do it, because that's they kind of
- 23:51Speaker 2: are going to need that on Monday, because I don't
- 23:53Speaker 2: expect him to come out and run the ball a
- 23:55Speaker 2: ton against this team successfully. I really don't. We're going
- 23:58Speaker 2: to win this game. I think he's going to have
- 24:00Speaker 2: to have one of those games where he has a
- 24:03Speaker 2: big one, you know, if they're going to win it,
- 24:05Speaker 2: I think he's going to have to be the guy
- 24:07Speaker 2: who wins it for him and let's see he can
- 24:10Speaker 2: do it. Hey.

- 26:51Speaker 1: All right, who do you like in this game?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Why?
- 26:57Speaker 1: You know?
- 26:58Speaker 2: Getting back to I think might have been your opening statement.
- 27:02Speaker 2: I don't trust this team right now. I don't. I don't.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I think it's a really tough spot for them. Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 2: and I think what we saw Friday was not an accident.
- 27:15Speaker 2: I think that's kind of a reflection of what they
- 27:18Speaker 2: are right now. And can you take that team out
- 27:21Speaker 2: to LA and beat a Chargers team that has a
- 27:25Speaker 2: lot to play for. I'm not feeling it. You know,
- 27:29Speaker 2: I'm going to take the Chargers and you know I'm
- 27:31Speaker 2: probably gonna wind up looking silly. You know, They're probably
- 27:34Speaker 2: going to come out and play great and win going away,
- 27:37Speaker 2: and I hope they do, but I can't pick it
- 27:40Speaker 2: that way. I'm going to pick the Chargers. I'm gonna pick.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I think the Chargers from what I saw today, they
- 27:46Speaker 2: can even though they're playing with a lot of backup
- 27:48Speaker 2: linemen and the offensive line has been not what they
- 27:51Speaker 2: had hoped it was going to be. It looked at
- 27:53Speaker 2: me like today they can run the ball. Uh and uh,
- 27:56Speaker 2: So I'm gonna pick. I'm going to pick the Chargers.
- 27:59Speaker 4: I'll say, ooh, yeah, See, they had one hundred and
- 28:04Speaker 4: ninety two yards rushing against the Raiders, and of course
- 28:07Speaker 4: everybody's padding the stats against this Raiders team this season.
- 28:12Speaker 1: But I said it earlier and I'm gonna say it again.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I don't trust this team. I don't know what they are.
- 28:18Speaker 1: They don't have an identity to me right now. They're
- 28:21Speaker 1: a void of leadership on this team. There's no one
- 28:24Speaker 1: player that can definitively rally the troops from my perspective
- 28:30Speaker 1: in that locker room, you know, this is a Chargers
- 28:33Speaker 1: team that's not it's not an elite offense. It's only
- 28:36Speaker 1: scoring twenty three points a game, but they're only giving
- 28:39Speaker 1: up twenty one a game. So with that said, I'm
- 28:42Speaker 1: with you. I'm taking the Chargers in this game, twenty
- 28:44Speaker 1: four to twenty. All right, Ryan and Irey Unison, we
- 28:48Speaker 1: both hope we're wrong in this case, but we will
- 28:51Speaker 1: find out come next Monday night. So until then, for
- 28:54Speaker 1: a Ray DINGDR, I'm Derek Gunn. This has been Birds Weekly,
