- 0:16Speaker 1: could bring conflict with a nearby native camp.

- 0:43Speaker 1: our story begins.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Around Dodge City and in the Territory on West, there
- 0:59Speaker 4: is just one way to handle the killers and the spoilers,
- 1:02Speaker 4: and that's with a U.S. Marshal and the smell of
- 1:05Speaker 4: gun smoke. Gunsmoke, starring William Conrad. The story of the
- 1:29Speaker 4: violence that moved west with young America. And the story
- 1:32Speaker 4: of a man who moved with it.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I'm that man. Matt Dillon, the United States Marshal.
- 1:39Speaker 2: The first man they look for and the last they
- 1:41Speaker 2: want to meet.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It's a chancy job. And it makes a man watchful.
- 1:48Speaker 5: And a little lonely. Come on now.
- 2:12Speaker 3: In you go.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Chester, open up the cell. We got a customer. Yes, sir.
- 2:19Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:21Speaker 6: Thank you, gracious me, Mr.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Dillon.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Don't look like he'd sober.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Up in a month of Sunday.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he's been working at it good and steady.
- 2:31Speaker 2: All right, in you go.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Know who he is, Mr.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Dillon?
- 2:38Speaker 2: No, I don't think I've ever seen him before. He
- 2:43Speaker 2: wasn't in any shape to tell me his name.
- 2:45Speaker 6: I ain't sure he'll ever remember it, the.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Way he looks. Well, we'll give him time to recollect.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, come on, Chester. Let's go get some breakfast.
- 2:59Speaker 7: Ah, you sure did a good job there, Doc.
- 3:10Speaker 8: That's a beautiful little.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Girl of Molly's.
- 3:13Speaker 9: Oh, I can't take much credit for that, Kitty.
- 3:16Speaker 7: No, but you didn't hurt her any bringing her into
- 3:19Speaker 7: the world.
- 3:21Speaker 9: And I tell you, Kitty, if every woman was as
- 3:24Speaker 9: sensible about having children as Molly is, a lot of
- 3:27Speaker 9: doctors would be out of work.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Well, she's had a lot of practice.
- 3:32Speaker 6: I'll say that for her.
- 3:34Speaker 9: Well, that brood of kids running around, she doesn't have
- 3:37Speaker 9: much time to fuss about having another one, I guess.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Well, anyway, it was good to.
- 3:41Speaker 7: See you again.
- 3:43Speaker 8: She never has time to come into town anymore.
- 3:46Speaker 9: She thinks not.
- 3:47Speaker 7: And I don't have much time to get out of town.
- 3:53Speaker 7: Even the dry prairie looks good to me.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 4:02Speaker 8: Look there. It's lying in the road.
- 4:05Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 9: I see it, Kitty. Come on. It's a woman.
- 4:30Speaker 8: How is she, Doc? Is she alive?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Oh, great Scott.
- 4:36Speaker 8: Doc, what is it?
- 4:38Speaker 9: Well, she's got a baby, Kitty. She was almost lying
- 4:42Speaker 9: on top of a baby.
- 4:43Speaker 8: A baby?
- 4:44Speaker 9: That's what I said, a baby.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Here it is.
- 4:49Speaker 8: Here, Kitty, hold it. Sure, Doc.
- 4:54Speaker 6: I want to get that woman into town.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Just as fast as I can.
- 4:57Speaker 8: Can I help you move her?
- 4:59Speaker 6: I'll make it.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Poor thing, she's just skin and bones.
- 5:08Speaker 9: Here now, Kitty, see if you can support her head
- 5:13Speaker 9: a little bit, will you? Hold her baby in your
- 5:16Speaker 9: other arm.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Yeah, all right, Doc.
- 5:21Speaker 7: There.
- 5:22Speaker 8: Is this all right?
- 5:23Speaker 3: Oh, that's fine, yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 1: All right, now.
- 5:25Speaker 9: We'll go.
- 5:36Speaker 2: That.
- 5:38Speaker 8: Yes, Kitty? Did you call this her baby?
- 5:42Speaker 9: Sure I did. She was holding it so close she.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Was nearly smothering it.
- 5:47Speaker 8: I don't think the baby is hers.
- 5:49Speaker 9: Oh, what kind of foolishness is that? She's a white woman,
- 5:52Speaker 9: isn't she? Well, you can see for yourself she's a
- 5:54Speaker 9: white woman.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Well, I just got a good look.
- 5:58Speaker 8: At the baby's face. It's an Indian baby, Doc. Indian? Here,
- 6:03Speaker 8: let me have a look at it.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Kitty, I believe you're right.
- 6:08Speaker 8: Well, sure I'm right.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Well, no matter.
- 6:12Speaker 9: We'd best get the both of them back to town.
- 6:14Speaker 3: So come on, come on. Oh, there you are, Matt.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Where did you expect me to be?
- 6:40Speaker 6: Well, I never expect to find you in your.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Office, I'll tell you that.
- 6:44Speaker 2: That nice buggy ride out in the country with Kitty
- 6:46Speaker 2: didn't improve your disposition much, did it?
- 6:48Speaker 3: Nice buggy ride.
- 6:50Speaker 9: I made three calls, chopped a load of wood for
- 6:52Speaker 9: Lady Thomas, and brought her up a patient in the town.
- 6:55Speaker 3: All right, Doc, all right.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I didn't mean to insult you with the idea of
- 6:58Speaker 2: having a good time.
- 7:00Speaker 9: As a matter of fact, Matt, it might be a
- 7:01Speaker 9: good idea for you to talk to the patient I
- 7:03Speaker 9: brought in.
- 7:03Speaker 8: Why?
- 7:04Speaker 3: Has he been shot? It's a woman. All right, then.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Has she been shot?
- 7:08Speaker 9: No, but she's in bad shape from exhaustion and exposure.
- 7:12Speaker 3: And she has a baby with her.
- 7:14Speaker 8: Huh?
- 7:15Speaker 2: Well, that sounds more on your line than mine. I'm
- 7:18Speaker 2: not so sure, Matt. You see, she's a white woman.
- 7:22Speaker 2: But the baby is Indian. Those things happen sometimes, don't they?
- 7:27Speaker 9: Of course they happen. If you'll just listen to me,
- 7:29Speaker 9: I'll tell you why I think this is different.
- 7:31Speaker 3: All right, Doug.
- 7:33Speaker 9: I don't think the baby's hers. I think she kidnapped him.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Kidnapped?
- 7:41Speaker 3: Maybe I better have a talk with her.
- 7:43Speaker 9: But please go easy with the matter. Whatever she's been
- 7:46Speaker 9: through has been very hard on her.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Do you want me to see her or not? I
- 7:51Speaker 3: want you to see her.
- 7:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 7:54Speaker 9: Come on.
- 7:54Speaker 8: Come on.
- 8:18Speaker 3: All right, Matt. You can talk to her. Looks like
- 8:22Speaker 3: she's asleep, Doc. I don't think so. Go ahead and try.
- 8:29Speaker 3: All right. Ma'am.
- 8:36Speaker 9: Ma'am.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I'd like to talk to you, ma'am. And the marshal.
- 8:48Speaker 2: It's about the baby. My baby.
- 8:52Speaker 8: My baby.
- 8:53Speaker 2: That's what I'd like to know about, ma'am. The baby.
- 8:56Speaker 8: Where is he? Give him to me?
- 9:00Speaker 3: It's all right. It's all right. He's right here.
- 9:03Speaker 7: Oh. No.
- 9:06Speaker 8: They took him. They killed my baby.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Who killed him, ma'am?
- 9:11Speaker 8: A savage. A savage Indian. Joe. Joe.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Joe. Joe. Doc, you know who Joe is? I think
- 9:26Speaker 3: he must be her husband. The way she keeps calling
- 9:29Speaker 3: his name.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Ma'am, where is your husband?
- 9:37Speaker 8: Joe. Joe.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Where is he, Joe?
- 9:42Speaker 8: Ran off. Joe ran off.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Baby.
- 9:50Speaker 8: My baby. Give him to me.
- 9:53Speaker 3: This isn't your baby, is it, ma'am?
- 9:56Speaker 8: They killed my baby.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I know, but this baby... Where did you get this baby?
- 10:01Speaker 8: A woman needs a baby. Give him to me.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I'm going to give him to her, ma'am. Make quiet.
- 10:12Speaker 3: And bring her out of this.
- 10:13Speaker 5: All right, Doc.
- 10:24Speaker 3: There you are. You just hold him there.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Quiet and gentle.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Baby.
- 10:34Speaker 8: Baby.
- 10:37Speaker 10: Ma'am.
- 10:39Speaker 3: He's an Indian, baby.
- 10:42Speaker 8: They took my baby.
- 10:44Speaker 3: So you took this one?
- 10:47Speaker 8: Baby.
- 10:50Speaker 9: Baby.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Joe.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Joe. I guess there's no use talking to her anymore, Matt.
- 10:59Speaker 1: No.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Maybe later.
- 11:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 3: All right, Doc.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Maybe I'll know more about it later myself.
- 11:26Speaker 3: It's all right with me, Mr.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Dunn, riding way out here and all that.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I'm glad to hear that, Chester.
- 11:33Speaker 6: But it don't seem to me that you can be
- 11:35Speaker 6: sure of getting anywhere.
- 11:37Speaker 11: Just pick it out of any little old bunch of
- 11:39Speaker 11: Indians and ask them about one little old baby. Like
- 11:43Speaker 11: that needle in a haystack the fellow was telling me about.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure.
- 11:46Speaker 6: No, sir, it just don't figure to prove out.
- 11:50Speaker 2: It won't prove out if we don't start somewhere, either.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Well, yes, I guess you're right, but I.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Do me a favor, will you, Chester?
- 11:58Speaker 3: Well, sure I will, Mr. Dillon.
- 12:00Speaker 6: I'd be proud to.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Just keep your doubts to yourself until I get through here,
- 12:03Speaker 2: will you?
- 12:04Speaker 3: Sure, I sure will. All right. We'll leave the horses here.
- 12:09Speaker 2: All right, Chester.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Don't look like there's nobody.
- 12:21Speaker 9: Here but just the squaws and kids.
- 12:24Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Then they're probably off hunting. I reckon so.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Oh, there's one, Mr.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Dump.
- 12:31Speaker 2: There's a brave.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's old Hawkwing. You stay here, Chester. I'll go
- 12:37Speaker 3: talk to him.
- 12:37Speaker 6: All right, Chester.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I've come to talk, Hawkwing.
- 12:48Speaker 3: It is well.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Sounds like you want to talk to me, too.
- 12:53Speaker 2: It is well the marshal come before the young men
- 12:55Speaker 2: return from hunting.
- 12:58Speaker 3: All right, Hawkwing, you tell me what's on your mind first.
- 13:00Speaker 3: The marshal knows. It's a baby.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. But there are two babies, Hawkwing. A baby is
- 13:09Speaker 2: missing from the lodgers. When the young men come back,
- 13:12Speaker 2: there will be trouble. I want to talk about a
- 13:15Speaker 2: white baby. The white baby is dead. It is said
- 13:22Speaker 2: that your people took the white baby.
- 13:24Speaker 3: That your people killed it.
- 13:27Speaker 2: That's not true. But you know the white baby is dead.
- 13:31Speaker 2: My people buried white baby.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Tell me what happened, Harkling.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Baby lay dead of fever in arms of mother. My
- 13:40Speaker 2: people buried baby. The women brought the mother to the lodgers.
- 13:45Speaker 2: What happened to the mother? The marshal asked that question...
- 13:50Speaker 2: You tell me, Hawkwing. Mother walked out into the night.
- 13:55Speaker 2: She took baby of my people. You know this to
- 13:58Speaker 2: be true? I know this to be true.
- 14:03Speaker 3: All right, Hawkwing. I was afraid it might be.
- 14:07Speaker 2: It would be well if baby come back before young
- 14:09Speaker 2: men return.
- 14:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:13Speaker 3: I think you may be right about that.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Well, sure, she's better, Matt.
- 14:35Speaker 9: I had her moved here to Ma Smalley's so she
- 14:37Speaker 9: could be quiet for a while. I found out her
- 14:40Speaker 9: name's Dory.
- 14:42Speaker 3: That's all.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Maybe she'll talk to me this time.
- 14:45Speaker 9: She's able to, that's all I can say. Whether she
- 14:48Speaker 9: will or not.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It doesn't matter.
- 14:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Well, let's go in and see.
- 15:00Speaker 9: Ma put her in a room It's me, Dory.
- 15:11Speaker 6: Doc Adams. I brought the Marshal.
- 15:14Speaker 3: He'd like to talk to you. I.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I don't want to see him. It won't take long, Dory.
- 15:19Speaker 3: It's important.
- 15:24Speaker 9: Please.
- 15:25Speaker 7: Go away.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I can't, Dory. I've got to talk to you about
- 15:28Speaker 3: the baby.
- 15:30Speaker 8: My baby.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Well, that's just it. I'm afraid he isn't yours.
- 15:37Speaker 8: I'll care for him, Marshal.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Well, I'm sure you would, Dory, but he still isn't yours,
- 15:43Speaker 3: is he?
- 15:43Speaker 8: A mother has a right to a baby.
- 15:48Speaker 3: An Indian mother has a right to a baby, too.
- 15:51Speaker 8: But they took my baby, Marshal. They killed my baby.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Your baby was sick, Dory. Isn't that so? Your baby died.
- 15:59Speaker 8: They buried my baby. The savages buried my baby.
- 16:03Speaker 3: The Indian women were traumatized. He's dead, Dory. You really
- 16:12Speaker 3: know that, don't you? Don't you, Dory?
- 16:20Speaker 8: Doc?
- 16:22Speaker 3: Go ahead, Dory.
- 16:24Speaker 9: It'll be better if you face up to it. I.
- 16:29Speaker 8: I guess I know it, Marshal. But the fever and all.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Yes, I know you've been sick. And that may save
- 16:36Speaker 3: your life.
- 16:38Speaker 8: What do you mean?
- 16:39Speaker 2: The Indians may be willing to let it go at that.
- 16:42Speaker 2: When they get their baby back.
- 16:44Speaker 8: A baby?
- 16:45Speaker 3: You'll have to give him back, Dory.
- 16:47Speaker 8: Maybe they won't know, Marshal. They've got lots of babies.
- 16:50Speaker 8: Maybe they won't care.
- 16:51Speaker 3: They know.
- 16:52Speaker 2: They care.
- 16:54Speaker 3: We'll have to give him back.
- 16:57Speaker 8: But, Marshal... Listen to.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Me, Dory.
- 16:58Speaker 3: I'm sorry for you.
- 17:00Speaker 2: But I'm not so sorry for you that I'll risk
- 17:02Speaker 2: an Indian uprising. The baby has to go back. Or
- 17:07Speaker 2: your life won't be safe. Lots of lives won't be safe.
- 17:13Speaker 8: Doc?
- 17:14Speaker 3: He's right, Dory.
- 17:16Speaker 9: Do what he says.
- 17:19Speaker 8: Can I have him just tonight, Marshal? And you take
- 17:25Speaker 8: him in the morning?
- 17:26Speaker 3: I guess that's all right, Dory.
- 17:27Speaker 2: It's too late to get out there tonight anyway.
- 17:32Speaker 3: But I'll have to take him the first thing in
- 17:34Speaker 3: the morning.
- 17:34Speaker 8: All right, Marshal. First thing in the morning.
- 17:49Speaker 6: Here's your coffee.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Don't seem none too hot.
- 18:02Speaker 9: You're about as ungrateful of a prisoner as I've ever been.
- 18:05Speaker 6: Of course, it is a mite early, but the marshal, me,
- 18:07Speaker 6: has to ride out the Indian camp.
- 18:09Speaker 2: You going to let me out?
- 18:11Speaker 11: Maybe you will at that. He's got an awful lot
- 18:13Speaker 11: on his mind over that woman and her baby.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I've been locked up long enough.
- 18:20Speaker 2: What woman are you talking about?
- 18:22Speaker 11: Why, that woman that took a baby from the Indians,
- 18:25Speaker 11: walked right out of.
- 18:26Speaker 6: Their camp with it, nice as you please.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Who is she? I don't know.
- 18:31Speaker 11: Some woman the Indians found way out west of town somewhere.
- 18:35Speaker 11: Seems her baby got killed or something, and she went
- 18:38Speaker 11: and kidnapped herself an Indian baby.
- 18:40Speaker 3: What's her name?
- 18:42Speaker 6: I ain't never heard her name.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Look, you better turn me loose right now.
- 18:47Speaker 8: Well, what? You listen here.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Marshall!
- 18:50Speaker 7: Marshall!
- 18:50Speaker 8: Let me out of here!
- 18:55Speaker 2: What's the trouble here?
- 18:56Speaker 3: I don't know, mister.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Don't this fellow suddenly start going crazy?
- 18:59Speaker 3: Marshal, the woman and the baby, what's her name?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Well, I only know her first name. It's Dory. That's
- 19:06Speaker 2: my wife. Now, let me out. Let me out. Just
- 19:11Speaker 2: wait a minute, will you? Wait a minute. You weren't
- 19:13Speaker 2: doing her much good when she needed you before. I.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I thought she was dead, Marshal. I thought they was
- 19:21Speaker 3: both dead. I... I rode off to get help. I
- 19:25Speaker 3: was awful sick. I know.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I got lost, Marshal.
- 19:30Speaker 10: I didn't find nobody. And when I got back the wagon,
- 19:34Speaker 10: I seen the grave. I thought they was dead. I
- 19:39Speaker 10: ain't cared about nothing since. I can believe that.
- 19:42Speaker 2: All right, let him out, Chester.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Tell me your name. Joe Dance.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Now, Dance, your wife needs you pretty bad right now.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I think you better go to her. Oh, I sure
- 19:57Speaker 3: want to do that, Marshal. Where is she?
- 19:59Speaker 7: Matt! Matt!
- 20:00Speaker 2: I'm in the back here, Doc. Yeah, what is it?
- 20:05Speaker 2: The woman, Dory.
- 20:06Speaker 3: She's taken the baby and gone. She did what? Dory's gone.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Get the horses, Chester. Sure. Get one for Dad, too.
- 20:12Speaker 2: His wife's going to be needing him more than ever now.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Dory can drive all right.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Let's just hope she can drive fast enough this time.
- 20:39Speaker 3: You think she might be able to get away, Mr.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Dillon? If the Braves haven't come back from hunting, she
- 20:45Speaker 2: might have a chance.
- 20:45Speaker 8: Marshal?
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Dan?
- 20:49Speaker 10: If the engines get her with that baby.
- 20:53Speaker 3: What'll they do to her?
- 20:55Speaker 2: I don't know. They have their own laws. I don't
- 20:58Speaker 2: know what they'll do.
- 21:00Speaker 7: Mr.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Dillon, look yonder.
- 21:03Speaker 2: The buggy.
- 21:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 6: He sure did wreck it.
- 21:15Speaker 2: There are quite a bunch of them.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Look at those tracks.
- 21:18Speaker 2: You think they got her?
- 21:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I think they got her.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Come on.
- 21:26Speaker 9: Raise the shore back, all right, Mr.
- 21:34Speaker 7: Dillon.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Look at them horses. Must be a couple dozen.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Yeah, they're back, all right.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Do we go in shooting? You were born with more
- 21:42Speaker 3: sense than that.
- 21:43Speaker 2: We go in shooting, we're dead as soon as we
- 21:45Speaker 2: get there.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Well, how do you figure it in, Marshal?
- 21:49Speaker 2: We walk in as quiet as we can and hope
- 21:51Speaker 2: we can get out the same way. and let me
- 22:02Speaker 2: do the talking. She's my wife. You better hope it'll
- 22:05Speaker 2: stay that way.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Just don't start anything. The quieter we are, the better
- 22:09Speaker 3: our chances are. Sure. Up there. Her lined up. Waiting
- 22:19Speaker 3: for us.
- 22:20Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Just walk easy. All right, just far enough.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I've come to talk with Hawkwing.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Send for him. He's going after him? Yeah. Dory. I
- 22:43Speaker 3: see Dory.
- 22:44Speaker 1: She's there.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Take it easy.
- 22:45Speaker 9: Well, they got her tied up.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Wait a minute, Dad.
- 22:47Speaker 6: Take your hands off me. Is he unconscious, Mr. Dillon?
- 22:54Speaker 3: He's lucky he isn't dead.
- 22:57Speaker 2: You are brave men to come here now, Marshal. I've
- 23:01Speaker 2: come to ask that your people be merciful. I've come
- 23:05Speaker 2: for the woman. It is not decided about the woman.
- 23:09Speaker 2: She's seen much trouble, Hawkwing. She took baby from my people.
- 23:14Speaker 2: The woman was sick with fever, Hawkwing. There was an
- 23:17Speaker 2: evil spirit with her. My people had not harmed her,
- 23:20Speaker 2: yet she took baby. The baby is back. The baby
- 23:23Speaker 2: is unharmed. Let her go, Hawkwing. I have told you
- 23:28Speaker 2: it is not decided about the woman. That man you
- 23:32Speaker 2: struck down, who is he? He is the white woman's husband.
- 23:37Speaker 2: When she was found, the white woman and baby, there
- 23:41Speaker 2: was no husband. It is as I said, Hawkwing, she
- 23:43Speaker 2: was sick with fever. The husband had gone for help.
- 23:47Speaker 2: She needs help now. Her husband cannot help her now. No, Hawkwing.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Your people are the only ones who can help her now.
- 23:56Speaker 9: Mr.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Dillon, that Indian woman with the baby, she's coming up here.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Keep quiet, Chester.
- 24:03Speaker 8: I am the mother, Hawkwing. Let me speak.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Little Bird has suffered. I know. And I'm sorry.
- 24:13Speaker 8: But White Mother has suffered more. My baby is back
- 24:17Speaker 8: with me. He shows good care. Her baby will never
- 24:22Speaker 8: come back.
- 24:23Speaker 3: What are you saying, Little Bird?
- 24:27Speaker 8: I wish White Mother go free.
- 24:30Speaker 2: You do not wish that she be punished?
- 24:34Speaker 8: She has been punished enough.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Ah, come then. We will tell the council.
- 24:44Speaker 3: You think they will set her free, Mr. Dillon?
- 24:47Speaker 2: I think they will, Chester. Indians think pretty straight. I
