- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:04Welcome to the Motorsport Brief.
- 0:06We have looked over our guest list from the past six years and realised there's a name, a decent name missing from the supercars pit lane, so I reckon it's time we fix that.
- 0:18G'day everybody, Rusty here.
- 0:19Welcome to another ep of The Shortcast.
- 0:22I'm in Invercargill at the bottom of the South Island in New Zealand as I record these intros.
- 0:27Next stop, Antarctica.
- 0:28It is cold.
- 0:30But I'm here for what should be an epic rally.
- 0:32It is the southernmost national motorsport event in the world.
- 0:36The Southern Lights rally has a few stages in the dark too.
- 0:40We don't often see that these days.
- 0:41Molly Taylor, her co-driver Andy Sarandas, and another Aussie-based navigator Ben Searcy and more have all come over the ditch to take part.
- 0:50Really cool.
- 0:51Ben's alongside Emma Gilmore, who is joining us on a feature episode soon too.
- 0:55Hayden Padden, who you can find in our library, is car one on the road.
- 0:59He has jetted back in from Europe to take part in this.
- 1:02It should be awesome.
- 1:04Now...
- 1:04A quick thanks to all of you who took part in our survey recently.
- 1:07We have emailed the winners of our super cheap auto gift vouchers, and I'll do a post to announce those winners soon too.
- 1:13I really appreciate your passion for the pod and the time that you took to complete that.
- 1:18Thank you again.
- 1:19Now, standing by in Queensland is the 2014 and 2021 Bathurst winner, Chas Mostert.
- 1:26Hot off the back of his performance in Perth and a gritty drive with loads of passes in Darwin there for Walkinshaw and Dretti United.
- 1:33He's a dad now and enjoying that special time of life.
- 1:37Plus, Mozzie is racing a very cool GT car and running his own team too.
- 1:43Start the clock.
- 1:44We've got a bit to cover.
- 1:45Hello, mate.
- 1:46Welcome to the garage.
- 1:47It is great to get you on.
- 1:50Yeah, Russie.
- 1:50Well, thanks for having me.
- 1:51I've been seeing the last ones you've been doing and I'm like, when am I going to get the call up?
- 1:55So I've been a little bit honest.
- 1:58We should have done that a long time ago.
- 1:59I apologise.
- 2:00Hey, we're talking to you post the Darwin round, the debrief, if you like.
- 2:04What are the kind of positives and what do you feel needs tuning, needs work?
- 2:09Yeah, I wish you spoke to me after Perth because it would have just been all positives.
- 2:13But no, Darwin was definitely a challenging weekend for us.
- 2:18Yeah, just didn't probably some of our mindset going into the weekend and the concerns around the super soft tyre probably really hit the nail on the head there.
- 2:26Our car just wouldn't quite hook up on that tyre for whatever reason.
- 2:31We didn't go there crazy out of our window compared to where we were at Perth.
- 2:34So to whatever reason now, our car just didn't quite complement that tyre, that heat.
- 2:40All those kind of things.
- 2:41So, you know, we try a lot from Saturday to Sunday.
- 2:44So I can only thank the team so much for putting as much hard work as they did.
- 2:48We just still didn't quite get the results.
- 2:50So even though we didn't quite get the direction from those changes from Saturday to Sunday, at least we can cross a lot of things off the list.
- 2:57and look into other things that we didn't try.
- 2:59So overall, tough weekend.
- 3:01Saturday was a highlight.
- 3:03It was cool to have still a good race car and pass heaps of cars and get some points.
- 3:07Unfortunately, Sunday, we probably would have ended up around probably the 12th, I thought, if we didn't have a bit of a pit stop drama with the New Year Nuts.
- 3:14So still good fightbacks, good resilience, but just obviously to beat those bulls and try and challenge them in the championship, you've got to be up the pointy end, and we just weren't there on the weekend.
- 3:24I love that word, resilience, the cheeseburger chase.
- 3:27Did you make this conscious thing when you got back to the garage to go, right, I've got to turn this into something somehow?
- 3:34Where did that come from?
- 3:35I don't know.
- 3:37I think obviously the results of Perth were just like a big relief for the whole team and a lot of self-oliefs.
- 3:42So even though we're starting 22nd,
- 3:45it's probably a big thought process from how we were at Perth that we believe we can get the results we want to do.
- 3:50So I think the drive through and obviously still had a pretty good race car was just because coming off those results at Perth.
- 3:56And same at the pit stops.
- 3:57The guys were really on it on Saturday.
- 3:59It was a shame on Sunday because it would have been another good stop.
- 4:01But yeah, just everyone believes in the team that we're taking a big step forward this year and we keep trying to achieve those results.
- 4:09So I don't know.
- 4:10When I'm driving around and trying to chase cars, I wasn't really thinking about,
- 4:13each cheeseburger per car but overall it was a good bit of activation anyway on the team's part after the race.
- 4:22It was pretty funny.
- 4:23Great stuff.
- 4:23So the takeaway from the first two questions here is you need the progress that you enjoyed in Wanneroo to translate more consistently, more regularly in places.
- 4:32Are the ingredients there for that, Chas, do you reckon?
- 4:35Yeah, the car's in a lot better window this year.
- 4:37Like last year we changed so much with the car and never really found a direction and
- 4:42Probably the key word I used this year is just the team worked extremely hard in the brake and got the fundamentals of the car right.
- 4:51And that's been our biggest thing turned into this year.
- 4:54So it's almost like everything we learned or everything we did last year is kind of a little bit irrelevant.
- 5:00And we're kind of starting our Gen 3 journey.
- 5:02journey this year if that makes sense so um we kind of feel like we're a little bit behind a few of the other teams and the success they have but what we've been able to do in the first I think four rounds has been pretty cool other than put a line for a Darwin which is definitely not where we want it to be but um
- 5:18Even the car we had there this year felt even better than last year, but just kind of similar results.
- 5:23So, yeah, I'm much happier.
- 5:26I feel really good.
- 5:29And the team's championship's been pretty cool this year.
- 5:31See that live pit lane order.
- 5:33And you know as a team, you come back and we probably didn't achieve what we wanted on the weekend, but somehow hold enough points to stay second in the garages for the next round is something we're still proud about and reflect on in a positive way.
- 5:46um yeah we're we're really enjoying it as a team this year but um yeah we just need to show that we can still dig the heels in after this weekend and come back stronger at the next one ryan wood shown some some flashes of that raw talent that we know that that he has it's probably about a kind of polish i guess and maybe conversion what what have you seen in him and are you offering a little bit of guidance on that side of the garage
- 6:09Yeah, he rides obviously the same way that I do mostly, Jens, where we're at with the team and stuff like that.
- 6:15And what he's been able to show this year where he just comes in, he's obviously a super young talent.
- 6:20He just grabs the scruff of the neck of that car and makes sure he gets the 10 tenths out of it.
- 6:24So he's keeping me honest in the background.
- 6:27I'll look at a fair bit of his data and then there'll be a corner here that he's absolutely smoking me at.
- 6:31And then Sam, my engineer, gives me a bit of a tune-up, mate.
- 6:34The car can obviously do it.
- 6:36The young fellow is showing you how it's done.
- 6:37Yeah.
- 6:38He's pushing me to hold new lengths, but I think the weekend would be kind of good for him too to come off Perth.
- 6:44When you're a young fella coming in, you sometimes think, not that it's easy, but you're like, it's all making sense and we'll keep rolling.
- 6:51But like anyone's career, you need to see the highs and the lows and then see how you dig yourself out of that.
- 6:58So it'll be interesting to see what debrief's like at the end of this week, see how he handles himself in that and how he asserts himself coming back at Townsville as well, because obviously both our cars were just not in the window that we wanted.
- 7:09So, yeah, as much as like I'm obviously as a teammate, the number one rule is always try to beat your teammate.
- 7:16It's always so cool to see how a young fella and the differences between yourselves and what you were at that age and how you came in.
- 7:23And there's definitely a difference between Mayor Ryan, but he just – he's someone pretty special.
- 7:30Hopefully he doesn't watch this because his head's already getting so big now.
- 7:33But –
- 7:34You know, he's done everything right so far as a teammate this year.
- 7:37He's been asserting himself.
- 7:38He's been giving as much feedback as he can.
- 7:42Even on track at Perth, we raced clean together, starting off the front row.
- 7:47Yeah, he's a real good guy to be teamed up with this year.
- 7:51Seems like yesterday you were that young bloke.
- 7:53Hey, third in the championship standings.
- 7:54You talked about the teams there a moment ago, and you've taken us to that point.
- 7:58Townsville is next.
- 7:59Are you looking forward to that?
- 8:01What's the key to kind of conquering there in the Gen 3 era, and do you feel like the Mustangs will have a better chance of taking on those bulls?
- 8:09Yeah, like I said, the year's been a lot better for us.
- 8:12I'm excited for Townsville.
- 8:14I love Darwin around.
- 8:15I love Townsville around.
- 8:16Always the public there are just so happy to have us there.
- 8:20So even though we had a bad weekend result at Darwin, I would still come out of there like, wow, that was such a cool weekend.
- 8:25So Townsville's a pretty special place for me.
- 8:28My NRL team's from there, so that's always a good one as well.
- 8:32But back to a street circuit, I think the ingredients on the soft tire, if our car can be back in its window like Perth, would be quite strong there.
- 8:40But saying that, I'm also excited to see what the engineers cook up to see what overall package we can keep pushing.
- 8:46So the aim of our game this year is, which I keep trying to push the team, is to be aggressive.
- 8:51Let's even though we have a bad weekend, make sure that we keep trying to make our overall package get better.
- 8:56Even though we have a win at Perth, it doesn't mean we shouldn't be trying things because –
- 9:00Like I said, the guys are racing the championship.
- 9:02Their bad day is like a third or fourth at the moment.
- 9:05So we need to make sure when we get back to the super soft tyre or even when we're on a soft tyre that we keep pushing the limits of our car.
- 9:12There's plenty of things we haven't quite tried yet and we are going to use these race weekends as that as well.
- 9:17Great chat with you and Jess Yates for the broadcast there in the Northern Territory.
- 9:22Some of that conversation was around...
- 9:24fatherhood that's a big life change ride but how good that has been great for you i think away from the track i can tell even in your demeanor in this chat yeah it's um pretty crazy just coming up in three months she's she's amazing you could have a really bad day at the racetrack and then you just look for a couple of photos in your gallery and you go what are you even worried about honestly you know you go home um just just get one little smile it's um i don't know it's it's it's crazy when i said talk to some people like um
- 9:53Reynolds or um who else who else has got kids in the in the category or even like Adam like my old engineer and you get this debrief about how family life should go over him and how parents are so proud of their kids and when you're a bit younger you're kind of like oh yeah yep yep cool hearing so much about your kids and you maybe don't so get it that much because you just don't understand and until you have your own you're like wow like I totally get why like
- 10:18They're the joy of your life.
- 10:19So, yeah, it's pretty amazing.
- 10:22I'm so excited to see her grow up and see what she wants to do and so many steps ahead of where it currently is, but it's amazing.
- 10:29So I think she'll be at a round real soon, which will be pretty special.
- 10:33Lovely.
- 10:34I do feel like these last couple of rounds have been a little bit probably harder for me because I just feel like, I don't know,
- 10:40just missing out on those couple of days you're away and seeing her grow up so much.
- 10:45So I'm excited that she can come to the next couple, hopefully next couple of rounds and see that growth as well.
- 10:50And hopefully that will help with some on-track performance as well.
- 10:53Lovely time of life, mate.
- 10:54Enjoy every minute.
- 10:55I know you will.
- 10:56Lee Holdsworth in Duro's.
- 10:57Tell us about the back end of the year.
- 10:59What are you kind of looking forward to as far as Sandown and Bathurst are concerned there and there?
- 11:04You know, in the ups and downs that you've enjoyed so far this year, that must be a little bit of a target for you guys.
- 11:10Yeah, 100%.
- 11:11Last year, our enduro campaign just was really hard for Lee and for the whole team as well.
- 11:17I mean, Sandown was probably one of the worst results we've probably had ever, and I'd say even Lee as well.
- 11:24We just didn't feel competitive all weekend.
- 11:26I think our cars just...
- 11:27just had no pace.
- 11:29So it was so cool to be going back to Sandown to have that enduro, you know, a couple of enduro races with Lee.
- 11:35I felt it was so bad for a lot of the co-drivers where we just had bathers those last couple of years.
- 11:39And so I'd love to see that enduro campaign grow back to at least the three rounds and get that enduro cup type stuff going back on.
- 11:45Cause it's a championship within a championship and, and,
- 11:48like the pit lane stuff this year, is always something to play for.
- 11:52So yeah, having Holdsworth backs is great.
- 11:55He matches me every time I get in the car.
- 11:56I don't know how he does it.
- 11:58He also balancing real estate life now.
- 12:01And I know this year will be something pretty personal for him too with the family.
- 12:06with a bit of tragedy going on, obviously losing his old man this year.
- 12:10And I know Bathurst and Sandown were pretty heavy on his heart because obviously the Holdsworth family's so much into racing and they're such a beautiful family.
- 12:19So, yeah, we want to get the result this year and I know that will be something pretty important for him as well.
- 12:25And, yeah, just looking forward to having him back in the car and big points races and having a guy like him decide you can make or break your championship.
- 12:32So, yeah, I know he normally makes it for me instead of breaking it.
- 12:36So I'm very lucky to have it.
- 12:39We will sneak a quick break here on Rusty's Garage.
- 12:41More of our convo with Chas Mostert on the other side of this.
- 12:48You're listening to The Motorsport Brief, our garage shortcast, with Walkinshaw and Dretty United's Chas Mostert wrapping up Darwin, looking ahead to Townsville's supercars, and with a bit of time dedicated to everything else he's doing too.
- 13:01It has been great to finally get him on.
- 13:04Let's continue now.
- 13:06Another project where we bump into each other from time to time is the Shannon's speed series.
- 13:10Right.
- 13:10So firstly, the Ferrari that you drive there, what is that thing like?
- 13:14It looks so damn cool.
- 13:16Yeah, it's unbelievable.
- 13:17I've been, um, pretty lucky to drive a few different, for different manufacturers now in GT3 and anytime you can get in a GT3, um,
- 13:25is just a real different approach to what we normally have with supercars.
- 13:28So I really like getting in those cars just to keep me thinking outside the box of how to drive a race car instead of just being so black and white of how a supercar you need to drive it.
- 13:38So yeah, it's the Ferrari stuff came along, which is pretty cool.
- 13:43Obviously, the connection came with Adam DeBore and him joining the Arise Racing team.
- 13:47And
- 13:48um he said come on you got to come drive this for me next year and i'm like oh i'm doing so much already um and i said okay well i'll lock in for one year and we'll see what we can do and um awesome to team up with liam talbot you know he's he's a fantastic driver he won the championship last year so for me it felt like with everything else going on in my life around side things with a bit of team ownership and um new young family um
- 14:14I'm obviously super involved with supercars.
- 14:16I thought, well, at least Liam Talbot can carry me through these rounds.
- 14:19So that's how it kind of all came about.
- 14:22But, yeah, the car's amazing, really cool to drive.
- 14:24They've all got their strengths and weaknesses, which is awesome about GT3.
- 14:28And, yeah, a lot of buttons on the steering wheel, I still don't know what really controls them because the car's got about two buttons that work on their steering wheel.
- 14:35So, yeah.
- 14:36Yeah, I just keep asking Adam more questions about the steering wheel than whatever's happening with the car balance.
- 14:41I think he tells me that 296 GT3 is quite a specific beast.
- 14:47If you make a finite or a little change, it's really specific.
- 14:52Is that right?
- 14:53Yeah, I think it takes about four buttons before we can actually exit the pit box, so it's...
- 14:59It's very complicated, but it's pretty cool watching you come to work.
- 15:04And it's obviously a piece of art.
- 15:06And, you know, all those manufacturers, every time they bring out a new model, the goalpost just changes further and further.
- 15:12And I feel like the Ferrari is like, you know, could have possibly, when GT Le Mans was still around, could have been a perfect car to go straight into that.
- 15:20But they're pushing GT3 limits to the next level.
- 15:23So, yeah, it's pretty cool to be involved with.
- 15:26You mentioned a second ago too that separately a bit of team ownership, co-owner, Method Motorsport, running the McLarens, the growth of GT4.
- 15:34Tell us about that and are you enjoying that side of it?
- 15:36A couple of young blokes behind the wheel too?
- 15:39Yeah, it's something super exciting and honestly –
- 15:42blowing our expectations out of the park.
- 15:45I mean, it was such a big ask for someone without much business knowledge to go, right, I'm going to start our own race team.
- 15:52And lucky we've got great people in my car like Guy McIntyre, which is a part owner as well, which makes it a lot easier in my mind.
- 15:59But yeah, growing pretty quick, we decided to basically jump straight in the deep end.
- 16:03Let's just go tackle the 12 hours.
- 16:05So I ran our two cars there.
- 16:08um we were on for a really good result until um they hired this driver to come in and he hit the fence at the top of the hill so he's basically been sacked from his own team um so uh but the young guys that we had at 12 hour and and some of them are carried over in the series are doing a fantastic job and just watching this these baby gt cars basically which kind of have a lot of same characteristics of g3 and these guys are all driven different things um
- 16:33from Porsches to Trans Am and watching them get in this car and push the limits of it is something pretty cool and passionate and learning their personalities and being on the start of a lot of those young guys' journey and where they're going to end up and seeing the talent is something pretty amazing.
- 16:48And I think from GT4 to GT3 here in Australia, it's a perfect category now that we're getting the SRO involvement to see hopefully more Australian and New Zealand drivers
- 17:00do the series here and then have the opportunity to go pick up a manufacturer drive overseas.
- 17:05Because when you go to Spa 24 hour and you see 72 GD3 cars on the grid for 24 hours around there is just unbelievable.
- 17:13And if any of those drivers want to try and take that direction, it'd be awesome to have that experience in Australia of those cars.
- 17:20So when they go versus those internationals, that they put their best foot forward and hopefully,
- 17:26make a career of driving in those cybercars.
- 17:29Is there an end goal or objective, but that's something you'd like to achieve in that sort of ownership position?
- 17:34Well, I suppose in my mindset, it's just keep jumping in the deep end and keep trying to swim.
- 17:39But I feel like it is also a moment you need to learn a lot as well.
- 17:44So at the moment, the GT4 category is the cars are so fantastic to work on.
- 17:49They're so controlled from a series element that
- 17:51It's going to give me time to learn, to create the right structure and the right team environment to then hopefully create that success.
- 17:58I mean, a lot of that is having great people involved.
- 18:02This year has been fantastic for our first year to have the amazing drivers that we have had.
- 18:06And then also complimenting a little black book of all the awesome connections I've had from supercars over the years and bringing some guys out of retirement that know how to swing spanners or even current engineers that are in supercars at the top level
- 18:20to come and help us on those weekends as well.
- 18:23And just, you know, we're only three events in and we're changing constantly each week.
- 18:28And so it's just cool to have that involvement.
- 18:32So at the moment, the end goal, I'm really open to where we go.
- 18:35I just love the GT space and I must not lie, I'd love to at one day maybe possibly run a GT3 at the Spa 24 hours as a Team Australia type element or something like that.
- 18:48but we've got to walk before we run and the GD4 category is something perfect for that.
- 18:52And there's some big players in GD3 here in Australia, so I don't think we're really up for that task yet, but we'll just keep chipping away.
- 18:59Make that happen, mate.
- 19:00That's a great story if you can.
- 19:02Now, as we near the finish here, you have proudly...
- 19:05champion that no social hate initiative um something that i feel very strongly about too can we just kind of check in there is it is it better are we in need of work how is the sport and the kind of community doing um on that front and and balance chas isn't something that's always easy to be achieved in that space because we want people to have a view right we want them to be passionate supporters but at the same time play nice don't we
- 19:27Yeah, it's super tough, Rusty.
- 19:30It's kind of hard for me to sit on the fence and say that it's going better in the whole scheme of things.
- 19:36I think it's just like a reflection of our world and people as where we are in life at the moment.
- 19:42So like I said, the whole social thing when I first got onto it was amazing.
- 19:46Like we got on there, we'd keep in...
- 19:48touch with our family, that we don't live in the same state, so we look up to our icons of what sports we're into or people that we can just keep up to date with life on it.
- 19:59It was so good and it was so positive.
- 20:02But then, no, it just took a real...
- 20:05turn that there was no actions that could happen to people for being so negative and bad on there.
- 20:10And now you can still make fake profiles and still troll people.
- 20:14And I don't know what kick they'd get out of it.
- 20:17But I mean, I would get more of a kick out of being positive on there and trying to pick up.
- 20:21pick up an athlete that's had a really bad weekend like that for me personally i've had a didn't have a great weekend results and what means the most to me it pulls me out of this funk is getting on those social platforms and seeing those fans and and supporters that will back us to the absolute limit and saying don't worry ches you'll turn it around and at the moment you're sitting in the moment go i don't know how i'm going to turn this around but geez that person believes in me that's so cool and and it just gets you back in into work and on the right thing so um
- 20:48I know I find energy in the more the positive side of things and I just wish that people could find that same enjoyment from backing those, putting more positive into it than negativity.
- 21:00So I'm worried about the school element.
- 21:02I've got my dad now and I'm worried in 10 years' time.
- 21:05and my little ones at school and she says, I want Facebook and I want Instagram or all these kind of things that I'm just going to be nervous as.
- 21:12And no doubt a lot of parents are in the same type of thing now.
- 21:15But there is things changing, you know, big organizations like Optus.
- 21:20They're doing digital thumbprints and trying to educate, you know, kids at school what's right and what's wrong.
- 21:27And bigger organizations are doing that, which I think it's really cool, but it's still going to come back to the end of the day of, you know,
- 21:34people being accountable for things that are really, really far past the point.
- 21:38And I hope supercars as well.
- 21:40You see things in NRL and AFL.
- 21:41I think they do a great job at stuff in stadiums.
- 21:44If someone's uncalled for or out of line, they either get bans on tickets or they get stuff like that.
- 21:51I did raise it with supercars a while ago, but to be honest, it hasn't really –
- 21:56seem like it's changed too much and that kind of stuff.
- 21:59And the worst one I think I've found, and I don't talk about this publicly too much, but it was a couple of years ago and probably Fabian will shoot me for saying it, but I had Fabs in our driver parade car.
- 22:11We're going around Bathurst and he's got his kids with him and it was a really beautiful moment to be able to go around and see the fans as the drive parades are.
- 22:19And this one guy down at the chase was just...
- 22:22Absolutely sledging him from those couple of years ago at Penske.
- 22:26And, man, it was just so uncalled for.
- 22:29And that guy, there was no repercussions for him to be doing that.
- 22:33And he had his kids in the car.
- 22:34I think it was pretty disgusting, to be honest.
- 22:36Yeah.
- 22:36So, yeah, I just want...
- 22:38People to be positive at the track and happy.
- 22:40And look, you back your drive for a reason, but it doesn't mean you should go out for other drivers or teams in negative ways.
- 22:46Just put more positivity into it.
- 22:48That stuff is disgraceful, mate.
- 22:50Well done for just continuing to ooze positivity, whether it's in the media generally or in the social media space.
- 22:58There is a spot for that.
- 22:59There is a place for positivity and we need more of it in our game.
- 23:02Finally, have you kept your first car?
- 23:04I think it was a Honda.
- 23:05And do you get to escape in that every once in a while?
- 23:08Yes, still got my Honda.
- 23:10Yes.
- 23:11I bet.
- 23:12About a year or two years ago, I finally did the 18-year-old Chas engine conversion and you know all the plans you have for your little car that you probably shouldn't.
- 23:23So yeah, it's got about 500 horses at the front wheels now, my little Honda, and it runs on E85.
- 23:30But honestly, I think I may be lucky to get it out once every three months.
- 23:36Ree doesn't really like me taking it out too often, so yeah.
- 23:39Yeah, it sounds like a WRC car for whatever reason.
- 23:42So, yeah, anyway, dad now.
- 23:45But it still sits there and I can still see it.
- 23:48I still think I'm 18.
- 23:49So it's serving its purpose.
- 23:50I love it, mate.
- 23:51Thank you very much for coming on and covering a bit of ground with us today.
- 23:54We're really glad.
- 23:55And let's do it again in the future, hey?
- 23:56Thanks, Rusty.
- 23:57Cheers, mate.
- 23:59From his Bathurst wins to that frightening crash at the top of the mountain in 2015, we will sit down with him one day for a feature episode.
- 24:07That's for another time.
- 24:08I am proud of him for what he has done with that no social hate campaign too.
- 24:13Just be nice.
- 24:14It's not much to ask.
- 24:15We're in a fortunate position of following a sport with good people who do things that the rest of us can only dream of.
- 24:22Admire that.
- 24:23Respect that.
- 24:24And as I often say, wear your team colours proudly.
- 24:28Staunchly support your favourite driver.
- 24:30Stay loyal to them.
- 24:31But it's all about the way you articulate your view.
- 24:34And having a different opinion, a differing opinion from another fan is okay.
- 24:39We don't have to all agree.
- 24:41There's a feature episode we released recently that you should check out at some stage too.
- 24:46And while at first glance you might go, oh, he's a bike guy, his story is more broadly appealing than that.
- 24:52The idea actually came about when the latest members were inducted into the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame at the F1 Grand Prix at Albert Park in March.
- 25:01That's where Craig Dack was inducted, and he is a very worthy inclusion too.
- 25:07From his success in Mr. Motocross to proudly representing Australia on a half a dozen occasions, starting his own team, chalking up a 30-year milestone with it in 2023 and the enormous success that it's enjoyed.
- 25:20Some of the star riders he's guided along the way, including a young Chad Reed when he first set out to conquer the US.
- 25:27And some little-known stories, too, including the aerobics TV show stunt that went wrong and had promoters worried, to a sliding doors moment that almost saw him switch touring cars to race alongside a legend of the sport.
- 25:41Next week's shortcast is one that you've all been asking for.
- 25:44SVG joins us and we're giving you the keys.
- 25:47We have been swamped with questions for that one.
- 25:50I won't get to all of them, but we'll cover as much ground as we can, particularly about his new chapter in NASCAR, which he is loving.
- 25:57The Chicago race that he famously won last year is just around the corner, so good timing.
- 26:03We're also catching up with Ricky Carmichael too, the goat of Supercross and motocross.
- 26:07And keep an eye out for notifications on feature episodes too, including one with a driver who could go wheel to wheel with one of motorsport's all-time greats, Ayrton Senna.
- 26:18Our guest is Calvin Fish, who commentates in America these days, will reflect on his own driving career and what it was like competing against a legend of the sport.
- 26:28That is it for this week.
- 26:29We'll catch you next time.
- 26:30Bye for now.
