- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, let's catch up man.
- 0:01Speaker 2: First of all, how was the vacate I followed you
- 0:03Speaker 2: and your wife on Instagram and ye, my man's unplugging, dude.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Well, halfway, like, we had all three kids down there,
- 0:12Speaker 3: my cousin, my grandma, my mom.
- 0:15Speaker 4: My two nephews.
- 0:18Speaker 3: It was vacation was a that's a soft term, that's
- 0:22Speaker 3: a I get that.
- 0:23Speaker 4: It's a trip. It's a trip, but it's fun.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Well we got first of.
- 0:27Speaker 2: All, your mother needs to know that if you're bringing her,
- 0:29Speaker 2: it's because she's the sole purposes to watch the children,
- 0:32Speaker 2: not enjoy herself.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I know, Okay, And.
- 0:34Speaker 3: That was what that was kind of the problem was like,
- 0:37Speaker 3: which is why we ended up bringing another babysitter down
- 0:40Speaker 3: to ours. Like, look, I need three days to sit
- 0:43Speaker 3: on a beach and just have it out with a
- 0:48Speaker 3: biolet tequila, you know, just figure you know, just figure
- 0:51Speaker 3: some things out.
- 0:52Speaker 4: So you watch the kiddos.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I'll check back in to show that I'm still alive,
- 0:58Speaker 3: and then we'll meet up for dinner.
- 1:02Speaker 2: You and your wife definitely set up parameters on what
- 1:05Speaker 2: vacations with y'all are like, because what was it like
- 1:07Speaker 2: if she wasn't Like if you don't drink.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Margarita's on vacation. You can't vac case with.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Us like she is. She is very much. I mean,
- 1:17Speaker 3: let's just say the high noons started cracking before.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Noon many days, let's many days, like early enough to
- 1:25Speaker 2: be with scrambled eggs. Are we just talking like shortly
- 1:29Speaker 2: after that?
- 1:30Speaker 3: Let's just say, if you were late to breakfast, you
- 1:33Speaker 3: could have.
- 1:34Speaker 4: You could have you could have caught on.
- 1:38Speaker 3: So man, yeah, let's say the eggs were cold.
- 1:41Speaker 4: But yes, somewhere there.
- 1:44Speaker 2: You go, I feel that. Hey, so we got a
- 1:47Speaker 2: new song. That's the whole reason we're catching up with
- 1:48Speaker 2: you today. Uh is it tough? Obviously? I can see
- 1:52Speaker 2: the the promotion coming up behind this. You just shared
- 1:55Speaker 2: a little bit of a sample of it on social media.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Have you been sitting on this song a little or
- 2:00Speaker 2: were you able to be like cool, it's done, like
- 2:02Speaker 2: let's run not the door?
- 2:03Speaker 4: We uh? We just this one just got written.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I guess it was two months ago and just recorded
- 2:12Speaker 3: like last month, so it was pretty quick.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Uh.
- 2:15Speaker 4: We've been looking actually for I mean got Lee.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I've been you know, kind of having the next single
- 2:22Speaker 3: talk for a little bit now, uh, and been writing
- 2:26Speaker 3: a lot for it. You know, knew what I wanted
- 2:28Speaker 3: to do and kind of the feel and the sound
- 2:31Speaker 3: that I wanted, which I think you can kind of
- 2:34Speaker 3: you know, kind of going back into the almost maybes,
- 2:37Speaker 3: uh take it from me world spinds, you know, kind
- 2:40Speaker 3: of up feel. And what's crazy is we went to
- 2:45Speaker 3: Montana to write for this next single and Travis Emily
- 2:49Speaker 3: Steven Mark wrote this.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I wasn't in the room.
- 2:52Speaker 3: They came in played it for me and I was like, dude,
- 2:55Speaker 3: that's amazing, and they were like, yeah, change up whatever
- 2:58Speaker 3: you want. I was like, that thing's done, Like this
- 3:00Speaker 3: song is over. And you know, after listening to a
- 3:05Speaker 3: few songs, we decided this was a single.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Hey, knowing how tough it can be. I mean, I'm
- 3:10Speaker 2: sure it's like someone who's building a house. You know
- 3:14Speaker 2: what color am I gonna paint it?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Type deal?
- 3:16Speaker 2: Right, whenever a song is brought to you, how refreshing
- 3:19Speaker 2: is to be like, damn, that thing's done, put a
- 3:21Speaker 2: ball on and let's send it out.
- 3:23Speaker 3: After three months of like you know, looking for it
- 3:26Speaker 3: and writing and you know, living with it for a
- 3:28Speaker 3: week and being like, ah, this is this doesn't feel right,
- 3:33Speaker 3: it was pretty it was pretty refreshing, you know, and
- 3:37Speaker 3: too like I haven't I think with a busy, torn schedule,
- 3:44Speaker 3: you know, family stuff, like I haven't been able to
- 3:46Speaker 3: write as much as I have in the past. And man,
- 3:51Speaker 3: I'm so grateful to be in a place with so
- 3:54Speaker 3: many great songwriters that sit down and write a song
- 3:58Speaker 3: that they think you would write. And that's a thing
- 4:00Speaker 3: is I told all of them, I was like, guys,
- 4:01Speaker 3: this sounds like I wrote this song, Like this is
- 4:03Speaker 3: a song that.
- 4:03Speaker 4: I would have I would have written.
- 4:05Speaker 3: And man, I'm grateful to all four writers on this
- 4:09Speaker 3: one for for writing and sending in my way.
- 4:13Speaker 2: When it comes to that process like getting the song
- 4:15Speaker 2: out there and everything.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It's I feel like.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And quality wasn't sacrifice, but I feel like you've almost
- 4:22Speaker 2: had to rush through it from singles you up to
- 4:24Speaker 2: Tucson too late, because this is this might be the
- 4:26Speaker 2: longest we've gone in between singles for you, isn't it.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been it's been Uh it's been Guy Lee, Yeah,
- 4:33Speaker 3: since Tucson, which was I don't know how long, but
- 4:36Speaker 3: it's definitely been the biggest which I knew that we
- 4:38Speaker 3: were gonna move on from Bluebird days we weren't gonna
- 4:40Speaker 3: single another one off of that record, so it was
- 4:44Speaker 3: gonna come off on the next album, and you know,
- 4:47Speaker 3: I think I I didn't write a ton over over
- 4:52Speaker 3: the holidays, and then we picked up went to Europe
- 4:55Speaker 3: in February, so I kind of just found myself in
- 4:58Speaker 3: a spot where I was like, dang, I haven't been
- 5:01Speaker 3: you know, I've written seven songs in three months, and
- 5:05Speaker 3: those didn't feel right. Not saying that they're not going
- 5:07Speaker 3: to make the record, but they weren't what I wanted
- 5:09Speaker 3: to go with right now, you know, and too like
- 5:13Speaker 3: where we're at the touring schedule, it's summer and we're
- 5:16Speaker 3: playing outdoor amphitheater shows. You know, another another song like
- 5:22Speaker 3: next Thing.
- 5:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 5:24Speaker 3: I don't think it made the show any better. And
- 5:26Speaker 3: I've never really had to view releasing music.
- 5:28Speaker 4: In that sense.
- 5:29Speaker 3: So it's been cool to to kind of have that new,
- 5:33Speaker 3: that new angle of looking at like what what we
- 5:36Speaker 3: need from a show standpoint as far as you know,
- 5:39Speaker 3: compared to the music we're releasing.
- 5:42Speaker 1: You said, so we got the song early.
- 5:44Speaker 2: It's called I ain't saying and you said that you
- 5:47Speaker 2: you didn't use the word struggle but you were trying
- 5:49Speaker 2: to find the next lane, right, whether you were writing,
- 5:52Speaker 2: you were part of the writer. People were bringing songs in.
- 5:55Speaker 2: What was so right about this that you're like finally yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Uh.
- 6:01Speaker 3: What's funny is when Travis brought the idea up to
- 6:03Speaker 3: me at the beginning of the retreat, I was like, hey, man,
- 6:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna read all I'm gonna spit off some ideas
- 6:08Speaker 3: for you that, you know, we can write throughout the week.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Let me know which ones to kind of keep and
- 6:15Speaker 3: which ones to trash. And he came up with this
- 6:17Speaker 3: idea and he's like, man, I got this idea. I
- 6:20Speaker 3: ain't saying you know, it's it's basically, you know guy,
- 6:26Speaker 3: you know in a relationship and the guy's not right
- 6:28Speaker 3: for you. Don't have a better option, but you just
- 6:31Speaker 3: know he's not right. And I think that's kind of
- 6:34Speaker 3: hit with me. Me and Christen had a dear friend
- 6:37Speaker 3: that was in a relationship that we both thought was
- 6:40Speaker 3: the guy wasn't it, you know, And we really didn't
- 6:44Speaker 3: know how to say that other than you know, I
- 6:47Speaker 3: don't know who is it, but it's just not him.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Uh So that one kind of connected with me and
- 6:53Speaker 3: I told him I was like, man, I think that
- 6:54Speaker 3: that one's killer.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Let's write it this week.
- 6:57Speaker 3: They ended up writing it that day and and I
- 6:59Speaker 3: think I just kind of connected with it in that
- 7:01Speaker 3: sense of, you know, I feel like that's where I've
- 7:04Speaker 3: been at with some some buddies here recently.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And it's so good because the word play is when
- 7:10Speaker 2: I heard the title and then heard the song, It's
- 7:12Speaker 2: like because when you hear the title, you think you
- 7:14Speaker 2: know what the song is going to sound like, right,
- 7:16Speaker 2: and it's almost like wordplay versus what I thought the
- 7:19Speaker 2: title would bring it to. And listening back to it
- 7:23Speaker 2: and from where you sit, it almost feels like singles
- 7:26Speaker 2: you up two point oh?
- 7:27Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, somebody actually said that, They're like, this is
- 7:30Speaker 3: like kind of singles you up the next chapter of it.
- 7:35Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, I guess maybe because I've it's
- 7:39Speaker 3: been so long since i've since I don't even know when.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I guess twenty seventeen, But yeah, I like and two.
- 7:48Speaker 3: You know, for me, it took me playing that for
- 7:51Speaker 3: actually playing it for my brother, and Jacob was like,
- 7:54Speaker 3: is like, singles you up two point oh? That was
- 7:57Speaker 3: the first time it kind of clicked with me. But
- 7:59Speaker 3: I guess mainly because of where I kind of initially
- 8:03Speaker 3: took the first time Travis brought it up. But yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 3: it is is definitely in that in that vein.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So good man.
- 8:11Speaker 2: So you were talking about writing moving forward, obviously this
- 8:16Speaker 2: is the first handshake from an entire new project that
- 8:19Speaker 2: is coming right.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we definitely uh, and this won't be the
- 8:23Speaker 3: only song we released this year. We've got a couple
- 8:26Speaker 3: other songs that we're we're really excited about. Uh, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 3: hopefully a new record by the end of the year.
- 8:33Speaker 3: It will probably end up being, you know, just due
- 8:36Speaker 3: to the touring schedule and trying to find time to
- 8:39Speaker 3: get in the studio. Uh, probably be early next year,
- 8:42Speaker 3: but who knows, we could we could wrap it up
- 8:45Speaker 3: and get this thing out by the end of the year,
- 8:47Speaker 3: So we'll see. But yes, his first song off off
- 8:50Speaker 3: a new record.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Let's go, dude, I know you're a busy guy. I'm
- 8:53Speaker 2: unless you I'm unless you roll, but holler at me
- 8:55Speaker 2: sometime and let's catch up. We'll do buddy, thank you man,
- 8:57Speaker 2: good to talk to you.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Appreciate your best life.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Other but he would do sign ze Ba
