- 0:58Good Monday evening to everyone I know.
- 1:00It's a beautiful day here in Southwest Michigan and Northwest
- 1:02Indiana. And we are back for our 19th
- 1:05episode of the Monday Night Rewind presented by the National
- 1:08Compact Touring series, Federated Auto Parts and ELA
- 1:11Detailing. I'm Lewis with Top Row Racing
- 1:14Media owner, content producer, pretty much everything Top Row.
- 1:19And then also joining me here shortly is Buju, host of the
- 1:22Buju Bull Rings that you have seen.
- 1:24And a new episode is about to drop soon.
- 1:26So Buju, it's a Monday 19th episode.
- 1:29How you doing tonight? Pretty good little sleepy bad
- 1:33night to sleep last night, but other than that pretty good.
- 1:35I had AI had a short week weekend of racing.
- 1:38I was only at the racetrack for about 4 1/2 hours total, which
- 1:41is a very short week at the races for me, but still I'm I'm
- 1:44ready for this weekend already so.
- 1:46Yeah, I am coming off of three days of racing and my drive time
- 1:52to Corgan Oil yesterday and back was longer than the race
- 1:55program. They did features only.
- 1:57They skipped the intermission, which it's a good thing they did
- 2:00because if they didn't we would have definitely rained, you
- 2:03know, into the last feature. So they did everything they
- 2:06could. Kudos to them.
- 2:07You know, Sunday shows are always tough anyways and but
- 2:11they you know, they have that was their second of three
- 2:14slugfest that they have. And so so, you know, car count
- 2:18where wasn't where they wanted it to be.
- 2:20But there is a huge modified show the night before in
- 2:22Indiana. So you know, when you have 46 or
- 2:25whatever it was modified down in one, you know, one track and
- 2:29then have a modified show the day after.
- 2:31Probably not going to get as many anyways.
- 2:33But but still they did a you know, a good show there couple
- 2:39first time winners, couple who have, you know, on a win streak.
- 2:42So, but yeah, my drive time, once I got home, I'm like, I was
- 2:46on the road more than I was at the track, but I don't mind that
- 2:50either. Feature only programs were
- 2:51sometimes my favorite for that reason, like get in, get out,
- 2:54get it done, get it over with. And you know, then you still can
- 2:58go live a little life. So and the weather was other
- 3:02than the rain was pretty beautiful.
- 3:04Weekend. That's what I told our group
- 3:06chat when we left M40 on Saturday, I said.
- 3:08That might have been one of the more perfect racetrack weather
- 3:11days ever. Not a cloud in the sky.
- 3:14It was 70 something with a nice breeze got in the shade.
- 3:17It was like not even cooler. It was a perfect day at the
- 3:19races. Oh, yeah.
- 3:21And I and that's something that again, you know, I'm exhausted
- 3:25from this weekend, but it's not because of the heat where last
- 3:27week was like the heat. And it just it's like, OK, I'm
- 3:29kind of, you know, I'm a this is the kind of weather that I go
- 3:32for the 70s again, sitting outside.
- 3:34It's so nice, but I know some, you know, sometimes me, you
- 3:39know, thinking about the heat and and it's like, but we're not
- 3:42in like fire suits or anything. You are sometimes but two, our
- 3:46first two guests who we have other than Cameron a little bit
- 3:49later, you know, when we think of being in fire suits and
- 3:52everything else is we're going to be talking with Ron Crandall
- 3:55and Joe Schaefer from the Kalamazoo Track Services.
- 3:58So if you know anybody who's on a track service team wherever or
- 4:02you've always been interested in what it takes to be on the
- 4:04Kalamazoo Track Services or any track safety team anywhere,
- 4:07definitely this is the conversation to come and join.
- 4:11We'll be talking what you as drivers can also do to be ready.
- 4:14I do have a rec that I'll be showing them to have the team
- 4:17walk us through their protocols like they're what are they
- 4:21assessing when they get onto the scene?
- 4:23So we'll kind of do like, hey, here's an accident and walk us
- 4:26through the steps that you take as a team and we'll go from
- 4:29there. So they have the first hour.
- 4:31They may not use the whole hour. I just I told Joe on Friday, I
- 4:34said I just want to make sure they have the time, you know,
- 4:37that they that we don't feel rushed on something.
- 4:39So especially when we think about safety.
- 4:42And then of course, Cameron Mccrudden will be joining us at
- 4:45eight O 5. And don't forget to throttle up
- 4:48with us this Thursday for another episode of the Thursday
- 4:51night throttle as we preview the upcoming weekend, especially as
- 4:54we get into the holiday shows. Lots of things going on,
- 4:57fireworks all over the place, you name it.
- 4:59Lots of stuff. Night of instruction seasons
- 5:01coming up for a lot of people. And then also quick cheap plug
- 5:06time, 35% off on all orders using the Father Day code that's
- 5:10on there right now. The Father's Day code is 35%
- 5:13off. All you got to do is put stuff
- 5:14in your cart. You don't even have to add the
- 5:16code to code discount to it. You just put stuff in the cart
- 5:20and it's automatically applied. So other than that, I know it's
- 5:24seven O 5 Buju. So if you're ready, I know Joe
- 5:27and Ron are already on with us. We can dive right into the
- 5:29conversation with track safety. Let's do it.
- 5:32Don't forget, of course, again, to share this out, like it out
- 5:35that it helps all of us. And again, I I don't I haven't
- 5:39seen too many podcasts bring on like safety team members.
- 5:42So I'm so appreciative of Joe and of course Ron joining
- 5:45tonight. You know, they always let me
- 5:47invade their space every Friday from time to time.
- 5:49So I definitely have a deep respect for them and what they
- 5:52do. And so let's go ahead and let's
- 5:55bring on Ron and Joe from County to Track Services.
- 6:01How are you guys doing tonight? Good.
- 6:03How are you? Good.
- 6:04Oh, that's right. It's going to change the layout
- 6:05here. There we go.
- 6:06I forgot. But but again, it's a Monday and
- 6:11you guys, there are some weeks that you've had a super busy
- 6:14week because what a lot of people may not know is that
- 6:17you're also part of the 500 Strength tour and also part of
- 6:20the reveal the hammer. So if you want to talk a little
- 6:22bit about both of your backgrounds and and you know who
- 6:26you are, how you got into track services and then we can go how
- 6:30KTS has evolved to being a part of other people's or other
- 6:34series traveling safety. So let's kind of start with who
- 6:37you both are. OK.
- 6:42Well, I'm Joe Schaefer. I started this about 20, four
- 6:48years ago, 23 years ago. I got actually I was kind of
- 6:54helping Craig McDonald do some things when he was back involved
- 6:57with it and I did some, I helped him with some stuff around his
- 7:01shop and he just kind of asked me if it was something I was
- 7:04interested in. And I tried it a couple nights
- 7:08and I really enjoyed it and that's how I got my start.
- 7:14I got my start when I met my wife, her father, her dad
- 7:19changed racing tires down in the pits and she knew Craig.
- 7:25And so for a while I was changing tires in the pits, and
- 7:30then when races started, I went up and jumped on the truck.
- 7:34And that was in 98, so like 27 years ago, 2620, yeah, somewhere
- 7:44there. Well, and I keep changing the
- 7:47wrong layout, but I mean, that's where you guys have been.
- 7:50You both are veterans of this team, right?
- 7:52So you've really seen it evolve, you know, over the years, you
- 7:57know, what is it taking to keep it at the level because you
- 7:59know, some have already common and you don't one of the best in
- 8:02the business. And it's, that's already been
- 8:03written, right? I mean, that's, it's well
- 8:05documented that Kalamazoo track services is one of the, the
- 8:08standard bars when it comes to short track safety.
- 8:12You, you've trained the South Bend crew, you guys have worked
- 8:15with like new Paris's crew, you've worked with Lucas Oil,
- 8:17you've worked all over. So, you know, in your guys's
- 8:20years, one, what do you think has changed the most with track
- 8:23safety? But two, how do you guys keep it
- 8:25at such a high level where people are calling KTS to, you
- 8:29know, come and help out? Wow.
- 8:34Well, I guess I, I, to be honest, I don't look at it as
- 8:39we're the best. I look at it as we just go out,
- 8:42we work hard, we do a good job. We have certain parameters that
- 8:46we have to meet as a team and that's what we are as a team.
- 8:49What's not an I and me or thing? It's, it's a we thing and it's
- 8:56just a lot of time together. A lot of the guys that are there
- 8:59now have been there over 10/11/12 years.
- 9:02So we've really been able to work together as a team and, and
- 9:08train together. We trained with Terry Kaiser and
- 9:11Jake Steele, who you would, you know, kind of briefly mentioned
- 9:15Terry's with CRANSASASI believe it is and Jake is working with
- 9:21the dirt modifieds out of Indianapolis.
- 9:24So I mean we have both of those two that were around for a long
- 9:28time also. So we it's, it's everybody
- 9:33that's been there has been there a long time.
- 9:36So it it helps the team grow together.
- 9:40Well, and you can tell right, like I that that cohesiveness
- 9:44that you all have on the track. It's like you get to a scene and
- 9:47you just know what you need to do.
- 9:49And and that's not, that doesn't just happen overnight, right?
- 9:52So I mean, that's something that even as you brought in different
- 9:55members from time to time, it's like everybody has a role.
- 9:58So Joe, I know as the owner of KTS, if you want to talk a
- 10:01little bit about the roles, even specifically for Kalamazoo, like
- 10:05you know, each seat in that truck, you know what, what's
- 10:08their titles and what are they responsible for whoever may be
- 10:12filling those spots that night? Just depending on who's there,
- 10:17the driver is usually what we call the incident commander or
- 10:21the head of the team for the night being my passenger to the
- 10:26immediate right is our EMS person.
- 10:29We're all fire and EMS through the county in some way somehow.
- 10:34And then first person off the back on the driver's side is
- 10:38like #1 fire person but also EMS backup.
- 10:42And then the first person off the back on the passenger side
- 10:46is fire and traffic direction. There's a lot of other little
- 10:54things that go on with that. I mean, everybody has to be
- 10:56paying attention and know what's going on, but that's the basic 4
- 11:00positions on the truck. And so you mentioned EMS, you
- 11:06mentioned part of fire, part of, you know, like county, like I
- 11:09know you're with Alamo Township or no, not Alamo.
- 11:13Which one? Pavilion Township.
- 11:14Pavilion. Yep.
- 11:16And and so with that, you know, what kind of certifications does
- 11:19it take to be on, you know, Kate CS because I know in the past
- 11:24you've kind of mentioned and you just did now like with EMS and
- 11:27fire. So what what kind of training do
- 11:29you guys go through outside of the track to then be on this
- 11:34team and then even things that you guys do as part of the team
- 11:37for training certification? Well, we've all been through
- 11:44fire Academy in the Kalamazoo County.
- 11:49Well, I guess. Most of us.
- 11:50Most, most of us have. There's a couple have been
- 11:52outside the county that are PS OS with another county.
- 11:58Our first responders is something that we're trained
- 12:04from county wide. It's like a three, three month
- 12:08course that's. Yeah, basic it's a year fire
- 12:15Academy, then it's six months EMS for medical first response.
- 12:21We do have a few that are EMTs. But in Kalamazoo County, and
- 12:26I've tried to, to mention this to a lot of people, we're, even
- 12:31though we're EMT or higher, some of us we can only perform to
- 12:35what the county standard is. And that's a, you know, medical
- 12:40first response response. So even though we're higher, we
- 12:46still have, we can only perform to that level.
- 12:49And I, it varies state to state, county to county, depending on,
- 12:55you know, how their Med control sets add up.
- 12:58Fire is the same throughout, you know, it's, it's how we train,
- 13:03it's what we train for. And then outside of the track,
- 13:07we train structurally. So it's all structural
- 13:10firefighting and rescue that way.
- 13:14When you guys have had some fires to put out at Kalamazoo,
- 13:17not always on the track, a dumpster last year, you know,
- 13:22caught on fire during one of the night of destructions that I, or
- 13:26was it the year before. It was one of those where you
- 13:27guys had to go to the back and put out a fire dumpster or
- 13:30dumpster fire, dumpster fire on the track.
- 13:34It was a little dumpster fire in the pits.
- 13:38Well, that's actually started as a car fire on the track that,
- 13:41yes, that they took it out back and just dumped it in the
- 13:45dumpster and got the dumpster on fire, Yeah.
- 13:49So it was a dumpster fire in a way.
- 13:50But but with that, if you guys want to talk a little bit about,
- 13:56you know, there was a track in the area that obviously made
- 14:00some news with the huge fire in the past And, and you know, cars
- 14:03on fire and different things. And a lot of times people may be
- 14:07sitting in the stands, don't realize the different ways that
- 14:10you might have to attack a fire or the different equipment you
- 14:12might have to have or the different fuels that you're
- 14:14dealing with. So you know, with that, like you
- 14:18guys have had like we just had a fire at Corgan Oil yesterday and
- 14:22you know, they got on it right away and it looked like, you
- 14:25know, just foam everywhere. We had not at New Paris, but
- 14:30they have had a fire in the past and then they got it put out
- 14:32right away. But I know you guys have had
- 14:34them at Kalamazoo even as recent as Super Shoe last year.
- 14:37So what is, you know, what are the things that you guys use to
- 14:41combat all these different risks that you know happen when it's
- 14:45at a track, especially like a fire, and why your background
- 14:47matters for that? Well, it's pretty much on the
- 14:55track. Pretty much all we use is foam.
- 14:57We've we've done enough small fires, trainings and stuff like
- 15:03that with pan fires and stuff to prove why, you know, people like
- 15:08purple Ki got nothing against it.
- 15:10It's a it's a good agent. Same with water, but two liquids
- 15:15push each other rather than put each other out.
- 15:17Foam blankets. The fire takes away the heat
- 15:22source so it and essentially puts it out with a blanket.
- 15:30That's what we use. But it's also not just track
- 15:36wise that you have to be paying attention to.
- 15:39You have to know your track, know where your stands are AT
- 15:45and know where your concessions are at.
- 15:46You have to know the whole thing, not just the track.
- 15:50And that's, you know, what we train on also.
- 15:53Yeah, but the track is important.
- 15:55That's where our drivers are at. That's that's our first concern.
- 15:59But our second biggest concern is the people in the stands.
- 16:03What's going on with them? Is it a medical emergency?
- 16:06Is it fire? Where's the fire at?
- 16:09You know, is it in a kitchen? Is it a bathroom?
- 16:13Who knows? And that's where that training
- 16:16comes in. We, you know, do a little
- 16:19scenario type trainings with everybody and then, you know, we
- 16:23talk about it a lot hoping that we never have to use it.
- 16:28Oh well, and that's where again, you know, there's been some
- 16:31situations that have happened even in the stands where you
- 16:33guys are Johnny on the spot. I mean, you know, red flag comes
- 16:36out or whatever and you know, you're right there because, you
- 16:40know, there's, there's right risk everywhere, anywhere on a
- 16:43track and track property. Again, even you leaps like a
- 16:48dumpster fire that's probably not expected on your bingo board
- 16:50on the night, you know, you know, but with, you know.
- 16:54So Ron, you know, what's 1 of the biggest things that you
- 16:57feel, you know from when you first started safety, you know,
- 17:00over 2 decades ago to now? What's the biggest thing that
- 17:04you think has changed in terms of what you guys do as track
- 17:08safety? I don't think there's been
- 17:12really a lot. These cars have definitely
- 17:15gotten faster, more risk hitting the wall and breaking a fuel
- 17:21line. There's more people in the
- 17:24stands that you know, A lot of the newer people don't come to
- 17:30the races. It's always the older ones that
- 17:33are out there. So we do have some medical
- 17:35emergencies. Oh yeah, the like I said, when
- 17:40you guys are having to respond to the stands, everyone's
- 17:42looking down. What are they doing now?
- 17:44They're on the wrong side of the fence here.
- 17:47Any head does not want me to forget by the way, to that you
- 17:49guys are also Joe, you're the safety director for the family
- 17:53fun mini wedges, which goes between Kalamazoo and Berlin.
- 17:56So do you want to, I don't know how many, many, many wedge
- 18:00programs have, you know, a director of safety, you know who
- 18:03has like literally someone who's highly trained.
- 18:06So how to, you know, what's something that you know that's a
- 18:09whole different challenge for you?
- 18:10So what do you find in the mini wedge world that you know makes
- 18:14your presence? You know, where those parents
- 18:16and inspectors know, hey, our kids are in good hands?
- 18:20The biggest thing with the kids is it's always fun.
- 18:23For one, you know, the kids are great.
- 18:25They, they want to learn as much as everybody else does.
- 18:29And for me it's, it's a new learning experience because they
- 18:34go a lot faster than I do. So but the biggest thing in for
- 18:38the kids, you know, you got to teach them helmets.
- 18:41You know what's right, what's wrong?
- 18:43You can only have certain ones. Then their belts, they you know,
- 18:49making sure they know how to do their belts, that they're in
- 18:52compliance with dates. And then knowing their car, you
- 18:59know, where are your shut off switches that you have making
- 19:03sure they, you know, you don't, you can't push it, but they do
- 19:07have fuel shut offs where they can kind of reach over and turn
- 19:10it. It's a quarter turn valve.
- 19:12It's nothing, nothing hard, but you know, and then just teaching
- 19:17them to be astute to what's going on around them, I guess is
- 19:23how you the best way to put it, because kids are like
- 19:27butterflies. They want to be everywhere at
- 19:29the same time. And.
- 19:31Sometimes it's hard to corral them in, but it's, it's been
- 19:37interesting for me to learn, you know, how to work with kids in a
- 19:41whole different dimension. Plus you want to bring these
- 19:45kids up to in this in the safe aspect of, you know, they're
- 19:49they're the next generation of these race race teams.
- 19:54I mean, moving on from many wedges, they'll probably move on
- 19:57to quarter midgets and then they'll be in this at the big
- 20:01track, so. Well, that's where I was going
- 20:05to say, you know, while we, I mean, we have drivers who are
- 20:08watching, we have lots of different people who are
- 20:10watching, fans who may not understand all the safety
- 20:14aspects, right. There might be other tracks on
- 20:16here who are listening in. Again, you know, one of the best
- 20:19teams at in short track racing. You know, what are those safety
- 20:24things, right, You're you're teaching and training the kids
- 20:26now to be aware of that with the mini wedges so that as they move
- 20:30up right, they're aware of these kind of things, including dates
- 20:33on the belts and the and any fire suit stuff, safety things.
- 20:36So what are some of those things that, you know, you try to teach
- 20:39them to the big cars and the big stars, you know, on Fridays or
- 20:43whether it's at reveal or with 500 tour, which is a whole
- 20:46nother challenge. Like what do you want them to
- 20:49know about safety and the things that they can do so that
- 20:53hopefully they don't need you or if they need you, they're as
- 20:56protected as possible? I guess the biggest thing with
- 21:00the big cars is, you know, most of these guys have been doing it
- 21:04a long time. There's very few of them that
- 21:06have been say under five years. So a lot of these guys have been
- 21:10around. They know, they know what the
- 21:12standards are. They know they go to enough
- 21:17trainings. They go to lane.
- 21:18Most of them go to lane every year for the safety summit where
- 21:22all of this is talked about in different increments in
- 21:25different class type settings. And so with the big cars, it's,
- 21:33it's not a a huge teaching issue for us.
- 21:37It's just them knowing that we're there to help them if
- 21:41something goes horrendously wrong.
- 21:46Which hopefully never does, right?
- 21:47I mean. That exactly.
- 21:48You guys, I mean, you know, think of the training that came
- 21:51in a few years ago where you guys literally save someone's
- 21:54life. You know, they had, I think what
- 21:55was it a heart attack during practice or whatever it was and
- 21:58you guys had to be right on the spot and and basically saved
- 22:02their life, right? I mean those are you hope to
- 22:05never have to use it. Yeah.
- 22:08No, that was a, that was an evening practice about 9:00.
- 22:14It was in the fall if I remember correctly.
- 22:20Gentleman parked his car, got out and fell over, had a heart
- 22:23attack. We were called to a man down,
- 22:27started CPR as soon as we got there because he was not
- 22:30breathing. Called for resources around us
- 22:37and we did CPR for I'm guessing a good 20 minutes on the
- 22:42gentleman and did not have to shock him.
- 22:46Thank God and but by the end of the time when we loaded him in
- 22:50the ambulance, he was sitting up talking to us.
- 22:53He left in the ambulance talking and laughing.
- 22:56He thought it was funny. Wow.
- 23:00He said it was I I can't believe you saved me and I'm sitting
- 23:03here talking to. You, you know, yeah.
- 23:06It's one of those things if we hadn't have been there, you
- 23:10don't know who else is trained to do that so.
- 23:16So how do you guys find yourself then with Reveal the Hammer and
- 23:20500 Sprint Car Tour? Like, how did those
- 23:22conversations come about where, you know, I always tell people
- 23:29whatever you can share too, because obviously there may be
- 23:31some things that you can't share publicly, but, you know, things
- 23:34that you can, you know, how do you find yourselves doing, you
- 23:37know, doing those two series, which, you know, travel all over
- 23:40to all these different tracks? Yeah.
- 23:45So I'm going to I'm going to start this one off.
- 23:48But so since we've been at Kalamazoo Speedway for so long,
- 23:52we've kind of build a relationship with a lot of these
- 23:55drivers and that are driving in the reveal the hammer.
- 24:01We've been we've been to a lot of tracks just to go watch.
- 24:06And we know when these guys were racing at these tracks, we have
- 24:11watched things that we don't think it's very safe when we are
- 24:19on the track with. I mean, even at Kalamazoo, when
- 24:22cars are on the track, we are fully suited.
- 24:25We have all our safety gear on no matter what.
- 24:29We've been at places where, you know, they're just sitting
- 24:34around. They might be just hot laughing
- 24:38and people are just sitting around with not all their gear
- 24:40on and not ready for anything and something happens.
- 24:44We've watched a lot of things at many different tracks so we just
- 24:49want to be there for the drivers to make sure they're safe.
- 24:56And how well do you guys work then with those other teams when
- 24:59you're there, you know, and are there any teams who might come
- 25:02up to you after you guys being there?
- 25:04Because I mean, Joe, the new truck that you have, I guess
- 25:06it's not new. You've had that truck.
- 25:07But you know, obviously the Kalamazoo truck stays at
- 25:10Kalamazoo, right? But you have your own truck
- 25:12that's equipped with multiple thousands of dollars worth of
- 25:16stuff, right? So you know, do you have then
- 25:19you know, how well do you work with those other teams And then
- 25:21have any teams come up to you guys afterwards go, hey, what's
- 25:24that? Or hey, how do you get that?
- 25:26Like what's your experience as you travel around?
- 25:31Actually to to this point we have had really no issues.
- 25:37We go in with the aspect of we're here for with the Hammer
- 25:41series. If that's who we're with that
- 25:43night or the 500 sprints, if that's who we're with, we go.
- 25:48We try to find their their safety teams and introduce
- 25:52ourselves. As you know, we're here with
- 25:55them. We're not here to take the show.
- 25:58We're not here to do anything else.
- 26:00Their safety is what we're here for.
- 26:04If you want us to do something else, let us know.
- 26:07If you don't say so, we'll set idle somewhere at the, you know,
- 26:11wall. Whoever's on the track is not,
- 26:14you know, our worry or whatever. But we always make it abundantly
- 26:19clear we're not here to take your show away.
- 26:24And if we can help, let us know. We'll help any way we can.
- 26:29And usually, for the most part, I would say 99% of the time
- 26:34everybody's like, yeah, just, you know, do what you can to
- 26:37help us. And some places are like just
- 26:40run with us, come out with us. You know, even if it's we just
- 26:43block for their truck to keep their guys safe, as simple as
- 26:48that. We're all working together to do
- 26:52the same thing is keep drivers safe.
- 26:55And there should never be any, you know, they think they're
- 27:00better than everybody. It's not the way it is.
- 27:02We want to help. That's all it is.
- 27:05And, you know, we've, we've gotten pretty lucky with these
- 27:08two series. We've talked to them many times
- 27:12before anything ever really happened.
- 27:15And we just, I guess we got lucky.
- 27:19You know, they, they understand where we're coming from and what
- 27:22we're trying to do and, and they like what we do.
- 27:25So I guess that's the best way I can explain that.
- 27:32Now, Buju, you've kind of been quiet, so I don't, I don't you,
- 27:36you know, I don't want to stomp on you either.
- 27:37So definitely feel free. If you have a question, go ahead
- 27:40and, you know, ask. One thing I was just curious
- 27:43about maybe a little bit on the lighter side, when I'm, when I
- 27:46get to play announcer a little bit down here in Indiana, I
- 27:48always like to mention that safe crews down there in those hot
- 27:51suits and they're they're not sweeping the track for fun and
- 27:53they're trying to get the show along just like the rest of us.
- 27:56But I know those fans do get a little antsy sometimes.
- 27:58Has there been an instance where maybe there was a good Heckle
- 28:01out of the grandstands that you chuckled yourself about or or at
- 28:04a time the fans were getting particularly impatient while
- 28:07there was a lengthy clean up? Well, we have, since we've been
- 28:15at Kalamazoo quite a while, We do have some people that have
- 28:19been in the stands and they Heckle us every once in a while
- 28:23for out in front of them. So it's not unusual to have
- 28:26somebody do that at Kalamazoo, but at different tracks, No, we
- 28:30haven't had anybody that I know of.
- 28:32Sometimes don't even listen to them.
- 28:37I was going to say Ryan had a video one time where a fan right
- 28:41in front of him was saying something and he just said,
- 28:44dude, shut the hell up. And I said Ryan, I had to mute
- 28:49that. And he's like, wow, he would he
- 28:53and it's in fact, it's when Joel hit the wall.
- 28:55You know, Joel's in here and he hit the wall really hard in turn
- 28:581 and he's out there chit chatting with the fans, smiling.
- 29:01And I was all get out while his car sitting there absolutely
- 29:04demolished. And you know, he's as happy as
- 29:07can be. You know, other drivers may not
- 29:09be as happy, but not Joel. Joel's happy.
- 29:11He's just in there talking to everybody.
- 29:12But fans at that time or, you know, they're waiting for a hook
- 29:16because there was the other tow truck was getting like another
- 29:19car and some of the other, there's one other truck that
- 29:22somewhere, you know, so you guys had to wait for the truck to
- 29:25come back and fans are going that you just hear.
- 29:27Ryan, shut the hell up. We're doing our job.
- 29:33Sounds like Ryan. Yeah.
- 29:35And like, yeah, I had to mute that, Ryan, because we don't
- 29:37need you to get in trouble. But obviously you guys are there
- 29:40to do a job. And and I know one thing that
- 29:43like Chris and Tracy have even said in new pairs, like we're
- 29:45going to do it right for the track conditions, you know, for
- 29:48a driver. So when you guys have like
- 29:50engines blow and you have all these things and you have to
- 29:53clean this up, you know, do you want to take people through the
- 29:56process of like what you're looking at, what you're watching
- 30:00for, how you know how you'll know when, OK, we've kind of
- 30:03done our job now let's let the tires, you know, let's the the
- 30:07drivers with their tires work it in.
- 30:08So, so that way maybe fans who are watching or even drivers who
- 30:11might be sitting there going, come on, let's go that like,
- 30:14what are you specifically looking for on the track when
- 30:17you're cleaning up or sweeping up?
- 30:22I guess the biggest thing is we have to find where it starts.
- 30:25We try to pay attention very closely to cars that are, I'll
- 30:29call it smoking. That's pretty much the base way
- 30:33to to do it. We try to get them off the track
- 30:37and get them looked at before this happens.
- 30:40Hopefully it doesn't always happen.
- 30:43And when they go, they go. There's not much you can do.
- 30:46We try to find the start point. We can find the start point.
- 30:50Usually that's the worst of it. Then it's just a trail.
- 30:55We're lucky enough to have a sweeper on the back of our
- 30:57truck. That's huge, saves a lot of hand
- 31:00work. And then where they end up, you
- 31:04know, we have to pay attention very closely to that because
- 31:08even though they have dropped oil or whatever they drop they,
- 31:12it's possible that that gets all over the engine.
- 31:14They could, they could have a small engine fire.
- 31:17So we're looking for two different things.
- 31:22And then it's just getting oil dried down on it as quick as we
- 31:26can as and the least amount possible that saves the fans
- 31:30from eating too much dust. And then it's just busting butt
- 31:38to get it done and get off the track so we can continue on.
- 31:42It's it's not really that fun to watch.
- 31:46It's not that fun to smell or or wear, but you know, it's part of
- 31:51the job and you know we have to do it.
- 31:56Well, and there's one way that you guys have been even hooking
- 31:58up some cars lately with a tow truck.
- 32:01You haven't done it too often, but a couple times and you're
- 32:05the only track so far or the only team that I've seen do it
- 32:07that way when you have the straps go through the cockpit
- 32:12and everything and wrap it around.
- 32:14I actually was trying to find which week it was because you
- 32:16did that a few weeks ago with the front wheel drive and other
- 32:18videos I have are all front wheel drive too.
- 32:20You haven't done that. You haven't gone too exotic with
- 32:23the street soccer late model yet doing that.
- 32:24But do you want to talk a little bit about that technique because
- 32:27it was I think 2024 when you guys use that technique for the
- 32:31first time or you're working on that technique, you know, you
- 32:35want to talk a little bit about why you might hook up a truck
- 32:38that or hook up a car that way where you just kind of almost
- 32:41like a grocery bag, you just lift it up, No.
- 32:46Well, a lot of a lot of times though when we do have
- 32:48accidents, we if there's multiple cars and stuff, we
- 32:53might have multiple ones that we have to hook.
- 32:55And if you need 2 wreckers because you got flats on the
- 32:58back and flats on the front, we just end up just hooking it with
- 33:03one and lifting it up like you said, a grocery bag.
- 33:07Yeah, I watched that for the first time and I went, what are
- 33:10they doing? And and you guys were still
- 33:12working on it 'cause like the rapid had to change one way how
- 33:16it went or the strap, I should say.
- 33:18But you're the only track or the only crew.
- 33:20I shouldn't say track. I mean it counts you is, I mean,
- 33:23that's the only track I've seen employ that.
- 33:24But obviously you guys are part of that where no, I've not seen
- 33:27anyone else do that yet. So that's where I'm like, I
- 33:29didn't, you know, where did, did you guys see that somewhere or
- 33:32you know, did you practice that? Thing that's part of our
- 33:35training. OK.
- 33:37Terry Kaiser, which you know, Terry, Yep, he works for
- 33:42McDonald's Towing and he's done that.
- 33:45He's done that for a long time. So we've actually done training
- 33:49like that for a long time. We just don't have to use it
- 33:52very often. So it, it's kind of interesting
- 33:56to watch sometimes when we we do that, like Ron said, you know,
- 34:01instead of double hooking a car, we can single hook, hook one,
- 34:05get it out of there and then grab another one with the second
- 34:07truck. Some instances like super shoe
- 34:12two years ago, we picked a car off a car and both axles were
- 34:16broke. So we just took it and you know,
- 34:21we got questioned on it, but it was like both axles are broke.
- 34:24He can't do anything. We've already got it up.
- 34:26Get it off the track and get the next car hooked and get it off
- 34:29the track. Sometimes it's just expediency.
- 34:33Yeah. And I think with the four
- 34:36cylinders, mainly because they're a lot lighter, it's a
- 34:38lot easier to do. We have way back in 9798, there
- 34:46was a late model that actually got wadded up on the front
- 34:50stretch and we actually picked it up with a single record also
- 34:55the same way. So I mean, it's been, it's been
- 35:00done. But yeah, we're probably, we
- 35:03have like 6 different size straps and stuff.
- 35:06We can do different things with getting a car now.
- 35:13You know, for fans who may not know that either, and again,
- 35:15having having a camera with you, you know, we've been able to,
- 35:20you know, when Ryan first started that tradition, we've
- 35:22been able to see different things like people have, you
- 35:25know, fans, drivers are like, I didn't know they did it that way
- 35:27or you know, with like toast traps or whatever.
- 35:29So you know what, you know, for fans who may not know, why would
- 35:33you use like a toast like the straps versus the hook?
- 35:36Because I, I do know that there's been some fans who have
- 35:38asked that in the past when I posted those videos of how come
- 35:41they're not using the hook on the tow truck.
- 35:43Why are they using straps? Straps actually grab on to the
- 35:48frames a lot better. The hooks, they can slide and
- 35:54they'll, they'll slip and stuff, especially when you're going
- 35:56like up, up the track or down the track.
- 35:58And so the straps actually hold a lot better and are safer to
- 36:04us. And then Tina came up with
- 36:08something. I'm going to show it here on the
- 36:10screen, although it kind of blocks you guys a little bit
- 36:12momentarily, she says. Maybe an offseason class for
- 36:15drivers and crews to kind of help us know signs of like heat
- 36:19strokes, proper fire extinguishing in the pit to help
- 36:21you guys until someone can get there.
- 36:24You know how to handle a severe cut until you can get to us.
- 36:27I feel like many would attend. Do you want to talk a little bit
- 36:30about the trainings that you guys have done in the past and
- 36:32things that I know you've talked about, you know, doing them
- 36:35again at some point, So if you want to talk a little bit about
- 36:38some things that you guys have done to bring awareness.
- 36:45This year was pretty much our shortened year for training.
- 36:48We were going to try and do some more by before fall, but it's so
- 36:52hard. Everybody has jobs, kids and
- 36:55there are 10 different ways. This year was a, like I said, a
- 37:01shortened class for everybody to just renew their SFI
- 37:07certifications. But the next class we do will be
- 37:10a full blown one that Terry and Jake do for us.
- 37:14And that's 8 hours a day in the classroom and then 8 hours out
- 37:18on the track doing different scenarios.
- 37:21But yeah, we at some point, if we got enough people that were
- 37:25interested in doing something like that, we could do a, a
- 37:29short, maybe 2/2 and 1/2 hour class on, on some of that stuff
- 37:34That would, it would help. You know, we try to, on the, on
- 37:41the fire aspect of that. We try to keep everybody away
- 37:44because most general personnel in the pits don't have fire
- 37:49suits on and we don't want somebody to get burned.
- 37:55And then that makes the the scenario or the scene worse than
- 37:59what it already is. We try to keep everybody out and
- 38:02away from it and just let us do our job.
- 38:06We all know drivers are going to help, crew members are going to
- 38:09help. You can't stop that sometimes,
- 38:12but we want to minimize the amount of people that get hurt.
- 38:18Well, that's something that we've seen, you know, in the
- 38:21past where you know, when you know someone's kid might be
- 38:24injured or whatever, or is in an accident, right?
- 38:27The instinct just to go help, right?
- 38:30That's the fight or flight. And so that's and it's happening
- 38:33at other tracks. It's not just that Kalam as you,
- 38:35but you see like the instinct of a wife or, you know, if it's a
- 38:39female driver or the husband or if it's someone's kid right to
- 38:41go, you know, does that sometimes make it challenging?
- 38:45You know, if you if people have access to where you guys are and
- 38:49they, you know, try coming around on the track or whatever,
- 38:52like how do you how do you manage that?
- 38:55You know, understanding, like I know you're concerned, but we,
- 38:59we got to do our job. You could be impacting our job.
- 39:02Like how do you, how do you handle that?
- 39:04You know, so you're still professional, but also like
- 39:07you're not our our priority right now.
- 39:16It's, it could be a challenge sometimes, but for the most
- 39:18part, the EMS, whoever's sitting in the EMS seat is in with the
- 39:24in with the patient. What does call them?
- 39:26The patient? And then everybody else tries to
- 39:30keep everybody away. You know, some cases we call
- 39:34Donnie, we call Andrew. Hey, you know, let's get the
- 39:38gates, get everybody, you know, so they can't get on the track.
- 39:42We try to keep parents off the track or crew members off the
- 39:46track. We don't need them being any
- 39:49more upset than what they are, being the driver or, you know,
- 39:53whatever. We just try to keep it simple
- 39:57and quiet for them to relax, try to tell us what happened, how
- 39:59they feel, what's going on. Unless it's more serious than
- 40:04that, then it's, you know, depending on what it is.
- 40:10But we try to keep it as simple as possible because yes, people
- 40:14are upset. People do get mad, you know, you
- 40:17don't let them in to see. It's sometimes it's a hard, hard
- 40:24way to do things I guess. Especially with a lot of the
- 40:27younger kids that are driving the four cylinders and even the
- 40:32Super Outlaw light models and stuff like that too, it's it's
- 40:37hard to keep parents back. Yeah, and that's where like it's
- 40:42understandable, right, Because you're that's where you almost
- 40:44have to go like OK, I know if maybe afterwards on the moment,
- 40:47like if I were in their shoes, like I understand, right.
- 40:49But it's also like, you know, if there's a doctor, if there's a
- 40:52nurse and they got to do something right, like got to let
- 40:55them do what they got to do. But I know that's, you know,
- 40:57that's a challenge, especially, you know, when when you have
- 41:01Open Access in a way, you know, a lot of these tracks, they can
- 41:04get through pith holes, they can get through spots.
- 41:07And, you know, you understand their concern, but just let us
- 41:11do. And that's where I thought about
- 41:13showing since we're getting close 20 minutes to the top of
- 41:16the hour, where I thought now might be a good time to show a
- 41:20clip. So this is from a few weeks ago,
- 41:23Logan, if you're watching, don't look.
- 41:25I know Sunny looks on here, but I to walk through like the
- 41:29scenario. So I figure we'll show an
- 41:31accident. And then obviously, I mean,
- 41:34there's some medical things that you guys won't be able to say
- 41:36just for privacy, but like, walk us through the OK, yellow or red
- 41:41goes out, you enter the track from that point.
- 41:44Kind of walk us through once you see this, what's the team
- 41:48assessing? What are they looking for in
- 41:49general terms? So it may make a noise when I
- 41:52add it to the stage, but it shouldn't, it's muted.
- 41:55So again, this is, you know, Logan took a just absolutely
- 41:58brutal hit on the front stretch here.
- 42:01I'll back it up one more time. You know, they're coming out of,
- 42:04you know, 4 gaining, you know, speed hits, wall comes across,
- 42:09track hits down below. Walk us through, OK, Red came
- 42:17out, you're coming to the track and went around.
- 42:19What are what are you walking through as you assess the
- 42:22situation with the driver and everything around the car?
- 42:27Well, the the biggest thing is getting on the track.
- 42:31I will say we're pretty lucky in the aspect of we don't have
- 42:38somebody telling us when to get on and off the track.
- 42:41We're, I guess you say, kind of blessed, not blessed.
- 42:48Some people like it, some people don't.
- 42:51If we see things we can call yellows, we can call Reds and be
- 42:54headed out before they actually start.
- 42:59Some people don't like it, some do it.
- 43:02I can't help that. So the first thing I'm looking
- 43:05at is I'm coming around is do we have fire?
- 43:10Do we have fluids along with a driver inside What what does our
- 43:16scene look like try to size it up.
- 43:20I'm on the radio constantly with the guys you know this is what I
- 43:24see this is what I got appears to be 1 car whatever my medical
- 43:29guy gets out goes right around Ron would be first one off the
- 43:33truck on the backside medical or fire.
- 43:36He would go to the other window and then the other two guys
- 43:41being me and whoever's on the back, Matt, probably Matt, would
- 43:46grab a fire extinguisher, head to the car.
- 43:48I would also grab one set one at the front of the car, knowing
- 43:53that it's a red flag. We have total control of the
- 43:56track. And then if I need anything, I
- 43:58just let Donnie know what I need, where it's coming from.
- 44:02Unless I need to get on the county radio and call for an
- 44:04ambulance. Then I break away for a short
- 44:08time. I do what I have to do with
- 44:09County. I get Alamo Fire Rescue coming
- 44:13and then also an ambulance depending on what the situation
- 44:16is. So on that aspect, we pull up.
- 44:21I have two medical guys going to each window, one to the driver's
- 44:25window, one to the passenger window, and then the other two
- 44:28of us are on standby for whatever they need, be it a Med
- 44:34bag, be it a KED board, you know, he hers back or whatever.
- 44:40We're going by what the two medical people are telling us.
- 44:45Well, I'm watching that in person.
- 44:46Everything you just described, it was like synchronized
- 44:49everything. I mean you all you exactly as
- 44:52you just explained it is exactly, you know, for those who
- 44:54are there watching it happen, right?
- 44:56You had two, you know, to your team members climbing into the
- 44:59car, assessing, you know, talk with the driver.
- 45:01Sometimes I've had onboard cameras in these moments and
- 45:04it's like, well, obviously we don't show that because that's
- 45:06all privacy and all that. But it's like, I mean, you guys
- 45:10are instantly assessing, asking the driver, you know, how are
- 45:13you doing or what do you need? But you know, it's it's just how
- 45:16you all operate. It's like, you know exactly what
- 45:18to do The moment you get to a scene that you're not sitting
- 45:21there, Joe going you here, you here, you there.
- 45:23Like everybody's like you. You did like a fist bump up top
- 45:27and you dispersed and did your job.
- 45:29So again, you know, watching that, you guys have seen it at
- 45:32the tracks again, we won't call out other tracks or anything,
- 45:35but I know some of the tracks you've been to where you're
- 45:37like, oh boy, you know, and it doesn't happen that way
- 45:40everywhere where I mean, it's like you guys don't have to tell
- 45:43each other what to do. You just you know what to do,
- 45:45right? And that also comes with decades
- 45:47of working together too. So what would you tell like new
- 45:51safety teams or teams that are like refreshing, like they're,
- 45:54you know, if any of them are watching or might watch this or
- 45:57see this and they're a new team or they're training a new team.
- 46:01Like I know Painesville last year, Speedway over in Ohio,
- 46:04they had a lot of new people as part of their team.
- 46:07So they were doing different things.
- 46:08Like what would you tell new teams who are trying to get that
- 46:11cohesive connection? I guess the biggest thing is,
- 46:19you know, work on being a team together.
- 46:22You know, we're lucky. Everybody kind of knows each
- 46:25other from years and years. It makes a big difference.
- 46:28You know, we all kind of know how we work.
- 46:31We have a A4 page deal that we go by, you know, one for each
- 46:37person. This is your responsibilities
- 46:40and jobs, you know, set something like that up.
- 46:43Make it easier for your people to understand their roles and
- 46:46responsibilities. It's not going to come overnight
- 46:51and it's a we thing. It's not an I thing or a me
- 46:53thing. It's a we thing and it has to be
- 46:56that way. You know, practice.
- 46:59Go out on Saturdays, even if it's for like an hour or two,
- 47:02you know, see if your track will let you throw a car in a corner
- 47:05and and do different approaches on it.
- 47:07You know, the first time you say you got 1 victim in it, or the
- 47:11second time you say if you know a driver and a passenger because
- 47:17it's a night of destruction or something.
- 47:19You know, sometimes you get that crazy stuff.
- 47:24I won't call it what it really is, but you know, and work on,
- 47:30work on different scenarios together.
- 47:32You know you'll get better with time.
- 47:36There's no doubt about it. The more you do it, the better
- 47:39you get. And it was the same thing with
- 47:41us, you know, when I first started with Craig, you know,
- 47:46he'd be like, come on, get over there, do that.
- 47:47And it's like, yeah, I know I'm a little slower.
- 47:51I'm new, I, you know, but over time I got it.
- 47:55And, you know, I, I can't complain because I learned from
- 47:59two really good people being him and Terry, you know, they, they
- 48:04taught me more than I ever thought I'd know about racing
- 48:07and, and, and race rescue and racing.
- 48:10So, you know, I've been very fortunate.
- 48:14I know Ron has 2. And so as some of the most of
- 48:17the other guys on the team that, you know, we're, we've been very
- 48:22fortunate on some of the people we've had around us.
- 48:25And that's what these guys need to do is, you know, work
- 48:28together, do some scenario based stuff.
- 48:32And even when you do your, your, your main trainings in the
- 48:35spring before season starts, you know, just work on some certain
- 48:39things that you know, you know, you're lacking on and just work
- 48:43hard on them. You know you, they will come and
- 48:45it will get easier. Buju did what other questions
- 48:51you had? I know we're getting near the
- 48:53top of the hour so I I've been asking a lot of questions so I
- 48:56feel like I'm leaving you out here.
- 48:58So once again, on the lighter side, I was thinking about a
- 49:01situation that I remember from a racetrack.
- 49:03What's something maybe that had you guys scratching your heads
- 49:06like why? How are we even dealing with the
- 49:08situation? How, why did you do this?
- 49:10How did you do this? The one I'm thinking of,
- 49:12somebody decided it was a good idea, good idea to drain hot oil
- 49:15into a cardboard box at a racetrack one time.
- 49:18So that that became a track safety issue, unfortunately real
- 49:21quick. What's maybe a situation, maybe
- 49:23not that insane, but something that comes to mind for you guys?
- 49:29Boy, it it's actually two different scenarios and that
- 49:35they were both in the last two years, both of them at track
- 49:42South of here. Wow.
- 49:48Without getting too far into the weeds, I guess, very poor tech
- 49:55and. Very big safety concerns.
- 49:59Yeah, very big safety concerns, something that you wouldn't, I
- 50:03expect to see, I guess. You know, you would think that
- 50:07even the normal person, the normal driver would be like,
- 50:12that's dangerous. Yeah.
- 50:17Are you guys making an effort in those situations to try and give
- 50:20your input and maybe say you know, try and better the
- 50:24situation? We have gave a lot of input to
- 50:30different race tracks. If they want to change things
- 50:34that's up to them. But we're only there for our
- 50:39race reveal the Hammer or 500 series.
- 50:42But we actually were helped work their race too and that's when
- 50:48the situation was. So yeah, we we express our
- 50:52concerns and stuff for our safety also.
- 50:56And are are you, I feel like you mentioned a little bit through
- 50:58the show here, but are you guys monitoring other safety crews
- 51:01maybe not only the negative, but maybe learning something from
- 51:05another crew that you guys haven't tried before picking
- 51:07something else up, a new technique maybe, Is that
- 51:09something that's part of the good job or no?
- 51:13We try to pay attention as close as possible for everything.
- 51:19You know, we're not perfect. I'm not perfect.
- 51:22Ron's not perfect. The rest of our crew is not
- 51:24perfect. There's always something to be
- 51:26learned in safety. Safety is, it's not a secret.
- 51:30You know, if you're keeping it a secret, then you shouldn't be in
- 51:34it. I've a lot of people say it and
- 51:38I've learned it from a lot of people I know.
- 51:41Ron has it's, it's huge. You cannot, you've got to be
- 51:48open and willing to take it and then help back.
- 51:53You know, we've had questions on why we do that.
- 51:56Sure, we give our reasons. They say, OK, well if you tried
- 51:59this little different, sure, why not, we'll try it.
- 52:03You know, we're not like I said, we're not perfect.
- 52:06We're we're willing to learn. So.
- 52:11And then on my last question, I'll hand it back to Louis then.
- 52:15So from a driver standpoint, with the advances in driver
- 52:20safety that have happened, especially in you guys, time in
- 52:23track safety is like, I feel like that's kind of been the
- 52:26development of driver safety in short track racing.
- 52:30I feel like there's an ocean among especially I'm a force on
- 52:33the driver and I think about the drivers I race with and they
- 52:38don't think we're going fast enough to need a neck restraint.
- 52:40A lot of the times they think a neck roll is enough as track
- 52:43safety and all the things you've seen over the years.
- 52:46What do you what? What's your counterpoint to such
- 52:49a thing? Go ahead.
- 52:54Ron, Yeah, I'm with you for the record.
- 52:57Things have really evolved. I mean, back when we first
- 53:00started, they were they didn't wear anything or if they did,
- 53:04they were wearing the neck rolls.
- 53:07And now that they have the Hans device and the other, I don't
- 53:12know what Simpsons calls theirs but.
- 53:14Hybrid. Hybrid, yeah, I think they are
- 53:19very good even in the four cylinders.
- 53:24They are the best thing that you could do.
- 53:26Yes, you can still hit the wall at 70 mile an hour head on and
- 53:31it's going to hurt. And so that would be the best
- 53:35thing you can do. I mean, I we've had a few guys
- 53:40hit the walls Super shoe last year head on that I felt felt it
- 53:47for a little while. Yeah, yeah, this used to be a 4
- 53:51cylinder behind me and the and the hit that it took was pretty
- 53:54solid. I'm pretty, I'm glad for one I
- 53:56had my Hans on. So that was my last question.
- 53:58I'll hand it back over to Lewis, but I I'm a big proponent of.
- 54:02Necklace racing, and you should be.
- 54:04I mean, it's it's your safety and what goes on in your life
- 54:09after that race. Yeah, you know.
- 54:13You know, it's, it's, I heard this a long time ago, but like
- 54:18your helmet, do you have a $10 head or do you have $100,000
- 54:22head? What are you, what are you going
- 54:24to put on your, I mean, your head, a good helmet or just
- 54:29something, whatever. Yeah.
- 54:31So I mean, it's the same way when you're getting in a race
- 54:34car. And same with belts.
- 54:37Yeah. Don't pull them off the night of
- 54:39destruction car that's been out in the woods for a year and a
- 54:40half. The the safety summit at Lane
- 54:45that we go to, they have if you bring in your belts, I think
- 54:49it's 50% off a brand new set of belts.
- 54:52I don't know why a lot of people don't do that.
- 54:54Take advantage of that. I mean, belts is one of the
- 54:57cheapest safety things you can upgrade.
- 55:02That would be the start of something right there.
- 55:06So how often should people, again, fans may not always know
- 55:10this. And I figure we again, we have a
- 55:11lot of people watching. So what better time to ask these
- 55:14kind of questions just in case. It's a friendly reminder, you
- 55:18know, to, you know, to maybe some drivers who maybe forget to
- 55:21do these kind of things. But like how often should
- 55:24different safety things with inside the car be upgraded, such
- 55:27as belts, such as, you know, even maybe a fire suit or or
- 55:31whatever it may be? Like how often should drivers be
- 55:34going through and checking everything?
- 55:37Well, if they're SFI certified belts, which they should be for
- 55:42circle track, they have an expiration date on them and
- 55:46usually they're good for three years.
- 55:49So I mean they have white tags that say June of 27 or November
- 55:54of 28. So they have expiration date,
- 55:59Joe said. The other couple weeks ago there
- 56:01was one that I think it was expired by a year.
- 56:06So I mean I think belts are like 120 bucks.
- 56:12If you take them to summit or lane during their safety summit,
- 56:16you get them a lot cheaper. And that's only because of a lot
- 56:23of guys, I guess mainly 4 cylinders I see sitting out more
- 56:27than anything. But they sit outside in the
- 56:29rain, the sun that will deteriorate belts quicker than
- 56:33anything. But a lot of the a lot of the
- 56:35guys with the late miles outlaw late miles and everything.
- 56:40They usually keep them in a barn or in a trailer and stuff.
- 56:43But that would be a big thing too is just keep them covered.
- 56:48You can't afford to race safely. You can't afford to race so.
- 56:51Right. Same thing with suits.
- 56:54You know, I know a lot of guys that I've seen in the past, they
- 57:00like the single layer suits because they're cooler and I get
- 57:02it, you're in a hot car, but if you can do a double layer suit,
- 57:08give yourself that advantage. If something happens, it gives
- 57:11you a little more time, you know, or a triple layer suit or
- 57:16a double layer suit with the underwear, the no Max underwear
- 57:20under it. Now, like I'll, I'll just throw
- 57:24this out there. Our team, everybody on the team,
- 57:26we have to wear a triple layer suit with the no Max underwear
- 57:29under it. We have to be able to have
- 57:32because we're not right there at the moment.
- 57:35So we're trying, we're trying to give ourselves an extra couple
- 57:38seconds maybe to get in and do something to help.
- 57:43But you know, try and give yourself some time.
- 57:46If you get in an accident, your car catches fire, you're trying
- 57:50to get out. Give yourself those extra few
- 57:52seconds of trying to, you know, give yourself the chance to make
- 57:57it, you know, and I know it sounds bad, but it's, it's the
- 58:02truth. I mean, if something were bad to
- 58:04happen and catch fire, We had a guy in Super Shoe last year, the
- 58:12one car that hit the wall and turned 3 and turned one and two
- 58:15that caught fire. That fire, in all of the two to
- 58:21three seconds it took us to put it out, he had crawled all the
- 58:25way up into the driver's cabin and he could feel it, you know,
- 58:29And we were right there, knocked it down quick.
- 58:32And he still felt the heat on himself.
- 58:37So I give yourself a chance. Would you even recommend to
- 58:43drivers, especially like I know a driver who they bought new
- 58:48equipment at the safety summit. They had it in their car.
- 58:52They had a situation a few weeks ago where they it was not
- 58:55letting them out, you know, like they were almost kind of trapped
- 58:58in their car until they got out, you know?
- 59:00Is that something that you would recommend even to for drivers,
- 59:04even young drivers like we have Cameron Mccrudden coming on
- 59:07soon, who's just graduated from many wedges, has moved up on the
- 59:10Hornets. Like is that something that you
- 59:13would encourage, especially even at a younger age?
- 59:15Like practice all these things like get in your car in the
- 59:18garage and the parking lot or wherever and just practice
- 59:22getting out Practice, You know, what if what if this happens or
- 59:25that happens? Like would you tell drivers
- 59:28like, hey, take 1520 minutes to do these things?
- 59:32Know how it goes together, you know, like these Hans devices,
- 59:36they all connect up around the head.
- 59:39Know how to get them unclicked and undone.
- 59:42Your belts, you should be able. Most drivers can do it with
- 59:45their eyes closed because they do it so much.
- 59:48But in an emergency situation, you know, your, your adrenaline
- 59:52goes up a little more. You're, I wouldn't say panicked,
- 59:56but your urgency is, is greater to get out.
- 1:00:01So know how things fit, know how they feel, you know, and that's
- 1:00:06most drivers, they want to be in a car a certain way.
- 1:00:10You know, I, most of the ones that I know they want to be in
- 1:00:12tight, serious tight, you know, so they can't move at all.
- 1:00:18So you know, know, know your feel, know how you want to be,
- 1:00:23and you should be able to get them undone as easy as you do
- 1:00:26them all. Especially when the adrenaline's
- 1:00:30going, you know, because that you know, that adds a whole
- 1:00:34nother factor right where you're, you know, you're just
- 1:00:36turning left and going fast. The next thing you know, you see
- 1:00:38flames probably not on the bingo board, but it happens right
- 1:00:42unexpectedly. And what's one thing that
- 1:00:45drivers can let you know, like if they don't do it already,
- 1:00:48what's something that a driver can definitely like signal or
- 1:00:51let you know like, hey, I'm good bro.
- 1:00:53You know, like as you're coming over, is that drop in the net,
- 1:00:56is that putting a thumbs out very clearly?
- 1:00:59Like what are some different things that a driver can do to
- 1:01:01help you guys as you're coming to a situation?
- 1:01:04We definitely look for the window net going down.
- 1:01:07That is a good sign that at least they're not hurt very bad,
- 1:01:12but we still got to check on them.
- 1:01:15Oh yeah, yeah. That the thumbs up usually,
- 1:01:19well, not usually. Sometimes they're, you know,
- 1:01:21having a conversation with themselves about what happened.
- 1:01:24So be it because of them or because of somebody else's
- 1:01:28fault. So, you know, that's another way
- 1:01:31we can tell, you know, they're, they're alert, they're awake,
- 1:01:34they're talking, you know, that's all good signs that we're
- 1:01:38looking for. That was a question in the chat.
- 1:01:42Some people were talking about that, so that's why I brought
- 1:01:44that up like no, and it's not just even for you guys, right?
- 1:01:47This could be any track, any safety team like and how,
- 1:01:50because it's all a cohesive team like we're all in it together.
- 1:01:53We, you know, we hope to don't see you as part of the show,
- 1:01:56right, because that means it was a really good night.
- 1:01:58Everything went left and went right, not right went as far as
- 1:02:03expected because if it went right, then we do have the
- 1:02:05problems and that's where you're coming around.
- 1:02:06But but you know, that's where since those have been some
- 1:02:09different things that have been said in the chat, it's like,
- 1:02:11hey, you know, like even if you don't race at Kalamazoo or you
- 1:02:14don't race reveal or you don't race 500, here's something that
- 1:02:17you can do with your safety team or for safety teams or members
- 1:02:20who might be listening, but how can they communicate with the
- 1:02:23driver? So one thing that I know you
- 1:02:25guys do, and I haven't seen it everywhere, every now and then
- 1:02:28you see it. But one thing that you guys do
- 1:02:30is you walk the pit area, especially like when you have
- 1:02:34travelling groups there or whatever.
- 1:02:35When the Tri states friends were there, you were walking around
- 1:02:38checking the cars. When 500 was there, you're
- 1:02:40walking around looking at the car.
- 1:02:41So before we let you go, because we are definitely running out of
- 1:02:44time and I, I mean, we filled that hour.
- 1:02:46I was wondering, you know, I wanted to give you that space
- 1:02:50because it's been a great conversation.
- 1:02:52But like, what are you looking for as you guys are walking
- 1:02:55through and talking with drivers?
- 1:02:56Like that's something you guys do really, really good about is
- 1:02:59going around. So what are the things that
- 1:03:01you're looking for when you do that?
- 1:03:04Yeah, with the two series that we really follow plus the
- 1:03:06Kalamazoo, but the two series we go through the pits and a new
- 1:03:14somebody's new car and stuff. We always look for where their
- 1:03:16shut offs are at master switch, fuel switch, see how they're
- 1:03:22belded in, make sure their belts look like they're how properly
- 1:03:27installed. I mean, we have seen some that
- 1:03:29are like sitting on sharp edges and stuff that will will
- 1:03:34recommend somebody to change, change them.
- 1:03:37But we like to talk to the drivers to see how they're
- 1:03:44feeling. I mean, you might have somebody
- 1:03:47talking just fine to you in the pits, but they get an accident
- 1:03:51and they're kind of slurring their words and stuff, then you
- 1:03:53know they have an issue. So that's kind of something that
- 1:03:56we started with, especially with the traveling series and, and at
- 1:04:01Kalamazoo you you've really noticed that too.
- 1:04:05Yeah, I mean, that's something that, again, I cannot sing your
- 1:04:07praises enough. You guys are in.
- 1:04:09You're an incredible team. You know, you know, I always
- 1:04:12before every race program, you know, when you're walking the
- 1:04:15track and I'm walking the track, you know, do fist bump and, you
- 1:04:18know, always tell you guys to, you know, be safe tonight.
- 1:04:20And you know, because again, you know, we hope to not have you be
- 1:04:24a part of the show. That means again, things went
- 1:04:26all right. But you know, we know that
- 1:04:28inevitably, you know, we're going to see an appearance from
- 1:04:31KTS or a safety team. And again, I just think it's the
- 1:04:35respect that you can have for a safety team, right?
- 1:04:37Like get to know them too, you know, say hi to them,
- 1:04:40acknowledge them. I mean, your, your guys's day
- 1:04:43starts early on a Friday. You're there before I am and I
- 1:04:46get there, you know, at least an hour before gates open.
- 1:04:49You guys have already sometimes been there a couple hours before
- 1:04:51that, right? So there's a lot that goes into
- 1:04:54it. And that's again, I definitely
- 1:04:57appreciate, you know, especially on a Monday night, you know,
- 1:04:59Monday for everybody. But I appreciate you guys taking
- 1:05:02all the time tonight to talk with us too.
- 1:05:04So before we let you go, any last parting words or any, you
- 1:05:08know, words good for the group that you would just like people
- 1:05:11to know, fans, drivers, whomever to know about safety, track
- 1:05:16safety, what you guys do. I guess the biggest thing is,
- 1:05:21you know, just make sure you're up to snuff on all your
- 1:05:24equipment and you know, be safe out there.
- 1:05:29It's you never know what can happen and how quickly can
- 1:05:32happen on racetrack. I mean, we've all seen it.
- 1:05:36There's been a lot of bad recs lately.
- 1:05:38Oh yeah. You know and work as a team,
- 1:05:43definitely work as a team. There's no hire me in this at
- 1:05:46all. You know, that's how you build a
- 1:05:48good team, work together, be strong and fine.
- 1:05:52You know, go to go other play, call other places.
- 1:05:55Hey, you know, we're doing this training.
- 1:05:57Can you maybe come over and help us, you know, or show us some
- 1:06:01stuff you know, It's, it's not hard.
- 1:06:06When it all comes down to it, we're there for the drivers, the
- 1:06:08spectators, you know, the facility.
- 1:06:12Not not to pat ourselves on the back or anything.
- 1:06:16We just we want good racing, safe around everybody.
- 1:06:23Oh, I mean absolutely. Again, you guys are incredible
- 1:06:27with what you do. So I did have a thought as you
- 1:06:31were talking Joe, where I'm like, Oh, wait, we forgot to
- 1:06:34mention that, but oh, it was the accidents.
- 1:06:36I mean, that's one thing that I think that's where this time so
- 1:06:39perfectly about being able to get you guys on here to do a
- 1:06:42talk with with safety. You know, I again, I I don't
- 1:06:45know too many podcasts I've seen.
- 1:06:47Do you know, have a safety team on their talk.
- 1:06:49But you know, there's really bad wreck.
- 1:06:52I think it was last week where some photographers and others
- 1:06:54got injured out of track and ended up in the hospital.
- 1:06:58I just saw one yesterday where a car went skateboarding basically
- 1:07:02around the wall and any for spectators at Ken Ross.
- 1:07:06I know you guys had a crazy situation where late model went
- 1:07:10or not late model St. stock, I think it was went flying off and
- 1:07:13they don't they're Charlie Hannah said it was the
- 1:07:16equivalent of a baseball fence basically that was separating
- 1:07:20them and fans and that it was could have been scarier than
- 1:07:23what it, you know, lucked is not to be.
- 1:07:27But yeah. So that's why I thought this was
- 1:07:29perfect having you guys on because again, there's just so
- 1:07:31much that you do. I know my mom's an EMT, licensed
- 1:07:34EMT and everything and she's been on rigs and everything, you
- 1:07:38know, in her career. And so I just have a deep
- 1:07:40appreciation for what you all do.
- 1:07:43We appreciate it. Oh we love chatting with you and
- 1:07:46stuff from racetrack too. Yeah, that and that started, I
- 1:07:50mean, that was like 2023 right away getting there.
- 1:07:53And, you know, and I've certainly gotten to know you
- 1:07:55guys over the years. And that's where I just
- 1:07:58appreciate you always letting me invade your space.
- 1:07:59You know, I try to be, you know, mindful of that.
- 1:08:02And I know Ron, you've taken over the camera duties and, and
- 1:08:05have that on and you got one of those super shoe moments where
- 1:08:08there's conversations going on between the drivers.
- 1:08:10You knew they were OK because they were all in front of each
- 1:08:14other. Sometimes.
- 1:08:15I usually just forget to turn it on.
- 1:08:17Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:18But like I said, that's a good thing though.
- 1:08:20That means it's not in your way. And that was always my big worry
- 1:08:23is that it would impede what you do.
- 1:08:25And obviously it luckily right, it hasn't.
- 1:08:28So it hasn't no. So that's where again, I just,
- 1:08:31you know, I appreciate that, but it just knowing what you do, I,
- 1:08:34I know you don't always see the clips, but I do record the
- 1:08:36national anthem every night. It's just YouTube and Facebook
- 1:08:39don't like the national anthem. It's a copyright, but when it
- 1:08:43always ends with home of the brave, I always pan over to
- 1:08:45where you guys are standing over in the top turn, top of turn 2,
- 1:08:49because you know, you guys are super brave for what you do, not
- 1:08:52only at the track, but in the communities that you serve.
- 1:08:55And so again, just thank you for everything that you do.
- 1:08:58We appreciate it. Well, thank you, Lois.
- 1:09:01And I'll definitely see you guys on Saturday.
- 1:09:03Hold the dumpster fires you know no dumpster.
- 1:09:06Fires I won't be there. Sorry.
- 1:09:09You're my son's getting wedding or he's getting married, so we
- 1:09:13have wedding at his house. All right, we'll definitely
- 1:09:16enjoy that. But well Joe, I'll see you and
- 1:09:18then we'll definitely we'll still hold the dumpster fires.
- 1:09:21We'll still. I'm sure of it.
- 1:09:23We'll save that from when you're back.
- 1:09:25OK. Just so you don't miss out, we
- 1:09:27would hate for you to miss out, but I don't think Randy wants a
- 1:09:30dumpster fire either. So I definitely think that's not
- 1:09:33a thing. But if you're definitely if
- 1:09:35you're on mini wedges, you'll see Joe there.
- 1:09:37I did. I got a post that that reminds
- 1:09:39me, but Joel gave you a shout out Joe and I got to post that
- 1:09:43because again, I just everything that you guys do, you know,
- 1:09:47above and beyond. So again, thank you tonight for
- 1:09:50taking, you know, an hour and 10 minutes out of your night to
- 1:09:53hang out with us and, and chat about track safety.
- 1:09:56And, and there's so many people in the chat.
- 1:09:58I know you haven't seen it yet, but so many people who are
- 1:10:01definitely thankful for what what you do and what the safety
- 1:10:05teams do. Excuse me, but again, thank you
- 1:10:07guys so much. No problem.
- 1:10:09We appreciate it. Thank you.
- 1:10:10Well. Thank you, guys.
- 1:10:12Thank you. Guys, no thank you.
- 1:10:13And so again, we've been talking for the last hour.
- 1:10:16Again, we're live. So if you missed it, definitely
- 1:10:18when we are off here in a little bit, head on back and you can
- 1:10:22watch from the very beginning. We've been chatting with Ron
- 1:10:25Crandall and Joe Schaefer from the Kalamazoo Track Services
- 1:10:28team who are also part of the Sprint 500 tour and Reveal the
- 1:10:31Hammer. But as we transition and we're
- 1:10:34at the top of the hour, I do want to do a reminder for the
- 1:10:36Thursday night throttle. This is before we bring Cameron
- 1:10:39on. I know he's already in the
- 1:10:40staging area, but we have the Thursday night throttle again,
- 1:10:437:00 this Thursday where we preview the upcoming weekend.
- 1:10:47Next week might be a little light.
- 1:10:48A lot of tracks are taken off the holiday weekend, but I know
- 1:10:51Hartford and Kalamazoo have big events going on, as does new
- 1:10:54pair Speedway with their night of destruction.
- 1:10:57And then I know Saturday, this Freedom at Galesburg.
- 1:11:01But otherwise a lot of tracks taking off that weekend.
- 1:11:04And this is a good time too, especially with all the rain
- 1:11:06we've had and now dust in the air too.
- 1:11:08At the same time that ELH Detailing, which is a marketing
- 1:11:11partner up Top Row Racing Media, don't forget you can go there in
- 1:11:15Bridgeman, Michigan while your cars get in detail.
- 1:11:17Enjoy the sunny shores of Waco Beach or head over to the Cubby
- 1:11:20Bar and Grill. And if you're especially if
- 1:11:23you're a Chicago Cubs fan, it's all Cubs in there or head down
- 1:11:27to Roma's Pizza, whatever it may be to keep you busy while you're
- 1:11:29in Bridgeman and get your car detailed.
- 1:11:31And if you use the code Top Row, July 13th coming up Bougie, we
- 1:11:36get to announce the first person to receive a free detail on the
- 1:11:40House from ELH Detailing. Also a proud sponsor of Matt
- 1:11:44Kemp Racing who just was at Berlin over the weekend for the
- 1:11:47ARCA series. So again, take advantage of
- 1:11:50that. They support short track racing,
- 1:11:51so definitely support them. I know for, you know, fans and
- 1:11:56drivers in the Kalamazoo area, that might feel like a little
- 1:11:58bit of a drive down to Bridgeman.
- 1:11:59But again, you can see the Sears Tower, not the Willis.
- 1:12:02We don't call it the Willis. If you're from Chicago like I
- 1:12:05am, it is the Sears Tower and will always be the Sears Tower.
- 1:12:08But you can see the Sears Tower, Chicago, Michigan City, and
- 1:12:12potentially where the new Chicago Bears Stadium will be
- 1:12:15around Gary. You can see that all from our
- 1:12:17shoreline right here in Richmond, MI.
- 1:12:19So Buju, Are you ready for the next guest?
- 1:12:22Yes, Sir. So racing down at Plymouth most
- 1:12:25consistently, but a mini wedge graduate.
- 1:12:27We have Cameron Mcrawden who's about to join us.
- 1:12:30So let me pop him on the stage, make sure I click the right
- 1:12:33graphic and we have Cameron now. So welcome to the Monday Night
- 1:12:36Rewind. Well, thank you.
- 1:12:38Thank you for having me. Oh, you're, you're welcome.
- 1:12:41I mean, I've, I've gotten to watch you as the mini wedge
- 1:12:43racer, but I haven't seen you since you've dropped over to
- 1:12:46Hornets and so I definitely have a lot to still learn about you.
- 1:12:50I know Buju knows you quite well.
- 1:12:52So Cameron, if you want to give everyone who may not know you,
- 1:12:56especially since we do have a lot of Kalamazoo watchers, new
- 1:13:00Paris watchers who may not have ever gotten a chance to watch
- 1:13:03you race. What's your background?
- 1:13:05Who are you and how did you know?
- 1:13:06How did you get into racing and and kind of take us from there?
- 1:13:10My name's Cameron. I race Hornets at Plymouth Motor
- 1:13:14Speedway. I kind of the love for racing
- 1:13:18started when my Papa was racing when I was little.
- 1:13:21And then my dad got the car back in like 2019 and ever since then
- 1:13:27I always wanted to be in a race car.
- 1:13:31It after he raced for about two years and then that's when I got
- 1:13:38into the Mini Wedge. And then after the Mini Wedge,
- 1:13:41we decided to make the jump to a Hornet.
- 1:13:43And we definitely learned a lot in the Hornet.
- 1:13:47But yeah. And you got a first heat win the
- 1:13:53other day, right? Yep.
- 1:13:55Yep. So congratulations on that.
- 1:13:57But I'll I'll let Buju go. I kind of stopped on him for a
- 1:13:59moment, but I'm like, you got to throw that in there.
- 1:14:01You got to win. So you know, that's, I mean that
- 1:14:04you get the first one. He's got he's an A feature
- 1:14:07winner this year, too. So there you go.
- 1:14:09He checked, the heat went off last.
- 1:14:11He did a reverse order. Well, then you should start with
- 1:14:16feature. I I must have missed the feature
- 1:14:17when I do follow your page. I mean, I followed your page
- 1:14:19into your mini wedge racer. But sometimes when I get on, I
- 1:14:23don't really. I tell people all the time, like
- 1:14:25I might get on Facebook to post something, but I'm not on
- 1:14:28Facebook to doom scroll for, you know, hours.
- 1:14:30So there's a good chance that I miss so many different things.
- 1:14:33But so definitely congratulations on your a
- 1:14:35feature win and doing it in the reverse your heat win that I, I
- 1:14:39did see that from the other day. Thank you.
- 1:14:44So you mentioned coming from mini wedges.
- 1:14:46First off, let's talk a little bit about what did you what did
- 1:14:49you learn in mini wedges that's carried over to Hornets so far?
- 1:14:52Honestly, holding a line and like, you know, kind of just
- 1:14:56like like I said, holding a line and probably just learning how
- 1:15:03to pass and the patience, you know, patience sometimes, but.
- 1:15:12So when I my first time in a race car, I felt like I was
- 1:15:16flying out there and then I watched the video and I was
- 1:15:18going 7 miles an hour. So since you had mini wedge
- 1:15:21experience, did you did you have that same experience jumping
- 1:15:24into Hornets or did you feel like you were a little more
- 1:15:26comfortable right away? Oh.
- 1:15:28Yeah, I, I definitely felt like I was going faster.
- 1:15:31And then I watched the video and it was like, well, well,
- 1:15:34definitely feels like you're going faster in the car.
- 1:15:38You picked it up pretty quick though.
- 1:15:39Like I said, last year was your rookie season in Hornets, right?
- 1:15:42Yep. You picked up AB feature win
- 1:15:44last year if I remember correctly.
- 1:15:46Yep. And then an A feature win this
- 1:15:48year. So I think we're progressing
- 1:15:49pretty good. Cam like the heat rates come in
- 1:15:51last, that's reverse order, but that's OK.
- 1:15:54Yeah, I, you know, I just, you know, it just felt right to do
- 1:15:58it in reverse, you know? That's right.
- 1:16:00That's right. You have a little different.
- 1:16:01Everybody gets the heat win first, so I'm like, let me get
- 1:16:03the feature and then I'll get the heat.
- 1:16:06And and with the crew that you're running, you're running
- 1:16:08with that down in the corner there at Plymouth, they do
- 1:16:10things a little differently anyway, right.
- 1:16:11So who, who is the crew? Who do you got run around with
- 1:16:14that in that corner down there, Plymouth Motor Speed, the left
- 1:16:17turn corner I call it down there at Plymouth.
- 1:16:19Chris K Wilson Keys, David Keys, Cordell Davis, we all just hang
- 1:16:25out down on the corner there and you'll enjoy our time with the
- 1:16:29racetrack. That's all you can do.
- 1:16:32How valuable is it to have those people to learn from?
- 1:16:35Because I mean those between the six or seven of them, they have
- 1:16:38what, 254 cylinder races between South End and Plymouth?
- 1:16:44So I feel like that's a good How valuable is that for you as a
- 1:16:47young driver? Oh, it's definitely, it's
- 1:16:49definitely an honor to have Chris and Melissa and Dave and
- 1:16:53all of them and my corner and, you know, their support and all
- 1:16:57their help. You know, I, I don't think I'd
- 1:16:59be where I'm at without their help, honestly.
- 1:17:05Yeah, they've, they've been a lot of help.
- 1:17:08And like I said, I don't think I'd be where I'm at now without
- 1:17:10them. What did you mention?
- 1:17:13Oh, go ahead, go ahead, though, it's not good.
- 1:17:15You know, you bring up the keys, right?
- 1:17:17You know David and Melissa, who obviously you know, they know
- 1:17:19how to win race and accord. Al Davis too, you know, not to
- 1:17:23leave him out, but you know, definitely with David and
- 1:17:25Melissa, you know, Melissa being a trailblazer at South Bend, you
- 1:17:29know, in the in the late, you know, twenty 10's and the twenty
- 1:17:3320s. And obviously she helped too
- 1:17:35with the mini wedges. So, you know, thinking of them
- 1:17:38specifically just because they do.
- 1:17:40They've done so much for the mini wedges where you came from
- 1:17:42into now, you know, is there advice that they've given you or
- 1:17:45different things that they've taught you along the way that
- 1:17:47specifically stands out to you? Oh.
- 1:17:50Yeah, you learn honestly. You learn every new stuff every
- 1:17:53week, honestly. And they've definitely taught me
- 1:17:57a lot. It's like, like I said, you
- 1:17:59learning new stuff every week. So you.
- 1:18:02Know. They've been, they've been
- 1:18:04teaching me stuff and yeah. What's a good lesson that you
- 1:18:08got from one of them? Like one that stands out to you
- 1:18:10the most. Chris Kane and Cordell Davis
- 1:18:14tell me not to do what they do. I did what they I did what they
- 1:18:19do. And it's worked out so far, so.
- 1:18:24I think that's good advice from Chris and Cordell.
- 1:18:26In my experience, the best advice I ever got personally, or
- 1:18:32the one that stuck with me the most, I guess, also came from
- 1:18:34your crew in my rookie year at South Bend.
- 1:18:36We were just having all kinds of problems with my car.
- 1:18:38We couldn't figure it out. And Dave Keyes just said at the
- 1:18:40right moment, if it was easy, everybody would do it.
- 1:18:43I don't know. That's stuck with me.
- 1:18:44So you do have a good crew over there in that corner.
- 1:18:47I know the competition is high in that corner too, and there's
- 1:18:51a lot of trash talking between the between the group of you.
- 1:18:54So yeah, what's that? What's that like?
- 1:18:58What's the trash talk like? I know there's a positive
- 1:18:59environment. I know there's a lot of
- 1:19:00learning, but I know there's a lot of trash talk too.
- 1:19:03At the end of the day, we're all just messing around with each
- 1:19:05other. You know, our, all of our goals
- 1:19:08is to beat each other, you know, and then they, you know, we're
- 1:19:11friends off the track and all that.
- 1:19:13But when you get on the track, it's like your competitors, you
- 1:19:15know? But it's, you know, we always
- 1:19:19mess around and like I said, our goals are always to beat each
- 1:19:22other. And.
- 1:19:23Yeah, we always congratulated when we get off the track and.
- 1:19:29So I know you had another new experience recently.
- 1:19:31You ran an enduro at Grundy, right?
- 1:19:33Yep. And ran all 200 laps.
- 1:19:35So what was that like? I was definitely tired.
- 1:19:38I'll tell you. That neck was definitely killing
- 1:19:41me the next few days. It was fun.
- 1:19:45We had a little bit of car problems, but we got around it.
- 1:19:49It was definitely fun. I learned a lot.
- 1:19:53Good experience for the Hornet. Oh yeah, Yep.
- 1:19:57I'll tell you what, that wall up there at Grundy's a little
- 1:19:59sketchy. Yeah, the scoop.
- 1:20:01It's a scoop, Lewis. It is spooky.
- 1:20:03You get up there, it'll freak you out.
- 1:20:05Yeah, but it's definitely fun race.
- 1:20:07Like I said, I we got to the halfway point and my dad came up
- 1:20:12to me and he's like, you tired yet?
- 1:20:13And I was like good. And then that last 100 laps and
- 1:20:19I was just exhausted. Do you have anything but do you
- 1:20:23have anything else like that circled maybe I, I know it's
- 1:20:26always kind of just when it's a bit, when it's when it's
- 1:20:28convenient, when maybe the money's right.
- 1:20:30But is there something else maybe you have circled like that
- 1:20:32that you'd want to do? Honestly, I'll even hope.
- 1:20:44Fair enough. You're fun though.
- 1:20:47I mean, that's what I grew up on, you know, at Santa Fe and
- 1:20:50Grundy with they do a really nice job with those enduros down
- 1:20:54there. So I told you Jack when you know
- 1:20:57his were night of destruction style when I first got knowing
- 1:20:59him and everything and I'm like this is not an enduro and it's
- 1:21:03just crashing. And that's not when an enduro
- 1:21:05supposed to be an enduro supposed to be racing, you know,
- 1:21:09and there might be bumping and banging.
- 1:21:10I mean Melissa has a good photo from a few years ago where she
- 1:21:13is going into like a big water pile or something like that
- 1:21:16where it's like splashing everywhere.
- 1:21:18I think that was her Muppet car that was like 20/19/18 something
- 1:21:22like that is a Muppet car, but random noises.
- 1:21:26But I'm like, is it on my end? I don't know.
- 1:21:29I heard, I mean, I have birds behind me, but I, you know, so
- 1:21:32doing an enduro Grundy, I mean, that does say a lot because they
- 1:21:35do they're racing down there. That's a, and they have a lot of
- 1:21:38racers who do those enduros there.
- 1:21:40So it's not just a Joe, you know, Joe Schmo showing up
- 1:21:43there. I mean there are many of those
- 1:21:45and they, you know, they put on a great show too.
- 1:21:46That's what they love to do. But you know, you've had a late
- 1:21:48model drivers who jump into those enduros down at Grundy,
- 1:21:52people who, you know, drivers who have one year is like 9
- 1:21:55championships in a in a class down there.
- 1:21:59So I mean they're not just it's not easy competition and then
- 1:22:03enduro. Oh no.
- 1:22:04No. It's not easy competition when
- 1:22:08you in your weekly race class down there Plymouth either.
- 1:22:10I don't know. We've already mentioned Chris
- 1:22:12and Melissa who you race with quite a bit, but it's a tight
- 1:22:15field down there. Who are some of the other
- 1:22:16drivers that maybe when you're driving up there in the front,
- 1:22:19you see that car come up next to you?
- 1:22:20You're like, oh man, I got to push a little harder now.
- 1:22:23I'll tell you what, this week me and Kaylee Berdon were side by
- 1:22:27side for a little bit. Yeah, I'm glad I missed that.
- 1:22:30I would have been anxious. That was definitely fun.
- 1:22:35Honestly, there's a lot of people out there that I'll be
- 1:22:38looking up at the scoreboard. I see them coming up and I'm
- 1:22:40like, all right, time to go. Yeah, I hear you.
- 1:22:44You know, it's, it's honestly the last few weeks it's been
- 1:22:50like when we first started the season, the cold weather, I
- 1:22:53noticed a lot of the people that weren't as fast in the colder
- 1:22:56weather have been picking up a lot of speed lately.
- 1:23:00Warmer weather, but. Where'd you end up this week?
- 1:23:04I wasn't. I wasn't at your race this week.
- 1:23:06This is the first one I missed. I qualified eighth out of I
- 1:23:10think 16 cars and then in the heat race, we're front row
- 1:23:14inside of the fast heat. We didn't do the best in the
- 1:23:17heat, but in the feature we started 4th row outside.
- 1:23:24I want to say it was honestly one of those races where it was
- 1:23:29more patience and not less. You know, more patience is
- 1:23:34waiting for the moves to come. But we ended up finishing second
- 1:23:39that night. Me and Porsche had a photo
- 1:23:42finish coming to the checkered so.
- 1:23:44See, I didn't even know that. Good job.
- 1:23:46I'm proud again. But so yeah, you've been racing
- 1:23:50Hornets for two years now and I know that's probably the home
- 1:23:53for a while. Do you have goals to go racing,
- 1:23:55something maybe a little quicker?
- 1:23:57Or are you happy in Hornets? Like I'm coming back down to
- 1:23:59race Hornets with you. So it's no judgement if you are
- 1:24:01a Hornet, but what are your future?
- 1:24:03What What's the future look like for Cameron Mccrudden?
- 1:24:08We we have some plans for next year.
- 1:24:09We're not fully. Set on you.
- 1:24:12You don't got to break all the news, all right?
- 1:24:14Yep. We, we're not fully set on that
- 1:24:16yet. So we're we're kind of keeping
- 1:24:17that, you know, in the closet just until we know it's for
- 1:24:20sure, but. I got you.
- 1:24:23All right, so stay tuned to the Cameron Mccrone Racing page is
- 1:24:26what I'm hearing. Oh yeah, yeah, might have some
- 1:24:28big news coming up soon. So what's been the biggest
- 1:24:32challenge for you? Jumping.
- 1:24:34You know this is year 2 now, right?
- 1:24:36For the Hornets, What's still, you know, you've used the word
- 1:24:39quite often tonight, the word patience.
- 1:24:42And there's probably a couple of situations over the track over
- 1:24:45the weekend where I could probably paint that word over
- 1:24:47that and say this would be super helpful right now is having
- 1:24:49patience. So how do you remind yourself to
- 1:24:54have patience? And is there a time that you
- 1:24:58didn't have patience and you found yourself in the wrong
- 1:25:00spot? There there was a couple times
- 1:25:02where I didn't have the patience back in my rookie year.
- 1:25:08There was some situations that got where we were three wide,
- 1:25:11you know, got a little scary at some points, but we got through
- 1:25:15them somehow. But I definitely have learned
- 1:25:18this year that it's you can't, you always got to keep in the
- 1:25:22back of your mind that you got to have patience.
- 1:25:24You know, you can't just send it in.
- 1:25:25And because that don't work every time, sometimes you got to
- 1:25:29give it a lap or two, see what happens, and the move will come
- 1:25:31to you when it's ready. I almost should, in fact, I
- 1:25:36think if it's a clip that I think the program will
- 1:25:39automatically put a clip there for me because that should just
- 1:25:41be a sound bite. I was hoping that should just be
- 1:25:44a sound bite for a lot of people this past weekend.
- 1:25:46So because, you know, I think maybe it wasn't even a full
- 1:25:50moon, but it felt like it. And and so, you know, what are
- 1:25:55you have an A feature under your your belt, right.
- 1:25:57So what are some goals, maybe before breaking news later, what
- 1:26:00are some goals that you still have that are that are on your
- 1:26:03board, so to speak, while you're in the Hornets or doing Hornet
- 1:26:07things like what are goals that you want to continue to achieve?
- 1:26:11Honestly, just getting quicker every week and getting quicker.
- 1:26:20Let's see Snap. I don't even know.
- 1:26:26Are you are you chasing the championship this year or are
- 1:26:28you just racing for fun? Chasing for a championship,
- 1:26:31hopefully. OK, Yep.
- 1:26:33So that would be the big goal for this year.
- 1:26:35Ed Hornets, at least, would be the maybe the Plymouth
- 1:26:37Championship. Yep, that I'll tell you what,
- 1:26:40it's if they've been a tight field lately.
- 1:26:42Yeah, it's a. It's not.
- 1:26:43It's not easy. No, but yeah, it's definitely
- 1:26:49been a tight field. Honestly, just getting faster
- 1:26:54every weekend and learning how to hold a better line.
- 1:26:58I know a lot of people say that I'm going to hold the line now,
- 1:27:01but you know, like I said, there's always room for
- 1:27:02improvement. Another one of my goals is
- 1:27:07honestly beat Chris. To retire Chris.
- 1:27:09That's the goal. That's the deal between me and
- 1:27:11him is to beat Chris and he retires when I beat him.
- 1:27:17Chris isn't going to retire, you know that.
- 1:27:20We've gotten close to beat a couple times, but.
- 1:27:23I don't buy that. I don't buy that he's going to
- 1:27:25retire. I don't believe him.
- 1:27:27I don't know. Look, Smith.
- 1:27:29He's excited because you know, Buju, you said back in the
- 1:27:31Hornet. So he can't wait.
- 1:27:33And pardon me, it's like, I don't know when are you going to
- 1:27:37get in that Hornet, Buju? Like we keep waiting for that
- 1:27:39return, right? So.
- 1:27:41I got a date. I know when I know when it's
- 1:27:44coming. I'm.
- 1:27:45Definitely in the days waiting for me.
- 1:27:47Yeah, we'll be racing together soon, don't you worry.
- 1:27:50I've been asking them every week.
- 1:27:51I'm I'll be going out to them and like when you get in the car
- 1:27:54out here. Pretty soon.
- 1:27:56Very soon. What I'm hearing is you need to
- 1:27:59put a deadline on him and remind him, you know, say like you have
- 1:28:0360 days, buddy, to get on this track here and you circle a date
- 1:28:06and you got 60 days or else you can retire too.
- 1:28:09So, you know, you'll be like the guther, you know, out of
- 1:28:13wrestling, right? You'll be the one who retires
- 1:28:14everybody. There's a, there's a, there's a
- 1:28:16set of 4170 Hoosiers, right, not Hoosiers radials right behind
- 1:28:21this table. So I'm ready to go very, very
- 1:28:24soon. I got to find some stock
- 1:28:25springs. I threw mine away.
- 1:28:26That's the problem. But anyway, nice you mentioned,
- 1:28:30you mentioned growing up watching your Papa and then your
- 1:28:32dad and then getting into racing yourself.
- 1:28:34My introduction to Cameron Crud was the kid that would come up
- 1:28:36and talk trash to my nephew and tell him he's slow in the pits.
- 1:28:39So who are some of the other drivers that you were rooting
- 1:28:41for outside of your family and outside of the crew that you
- 1:28:43hang with now when you were coming up at the racetrack?
- 1:28:48Let's see. I know Charlie Hannah was a big
- 1:28:54one for you. Yeah.
- 1:28:55CC Hannah and Sage Hannah. Let's see who else is there
- 1:29:01trying to think here. You wiped them all out.
- 1:29:05You wiped them all out for Chris Kane.
- 1:29:07Chris Kane's at the at the top of.
- 1:29:13Steve Stacy is more OK. Andrew Coats.
- 1:29:19Andrew Coats. I see in the chat here that Sage
- 1:29:21Hannah covered your mini wedge and glitter one year, huh?
- 1:29:24Yeah, yeah. Are you still finding glitter,
- 1:29:29by the way? Because glitter?
- 1:29:31Take it from a teacher. Glitter never goes away.
- 1:29:33Oh yeah, no. We did it one time in my
- 1:29:35classroom. I was convinced to do it after
- 1:29:37years of protesting. I said fine, we'll do it.
- 1:29:39And we still found glitter three years later.
- 1:29:41Oh. Yeah.
- 1:29:42Never goes away. That'll retire anybody.
- 1:29:46Glitter. OK, sorry to interrupt your
- 1:29:50train of thought, but glitter and saw how your face reacted to
- 1:29:54the glitter. I'm like, I've had that face
- 1:29:56before when, you know, I was convinced so many times.
- 1:29:58Or not convinced, but bagged glitter.
- 1:30:00Can we do glitter? Can we?
- 1:30:01No, we're not doing glitter because I know what happens with
- 1:30:03glitter. It does not go away.
- 1:30:04It comes back. Yeah.
- 1:30:07But Andrew Coats? Oh, go ahead.
- 1:30:11Honestly, I don't think. Any.
- 1:30:15Other the top of my head, right? That's it.
- 1:30:17That's it, brother. I was just, I was just trying to
- 1:30:19get the rundown on maybe who's some of your other racing
- 1:30:22heroes. Were you a NASCAR fan before you
- 1:30:24started going to short tracks? Were you short tracks first?
- 1:30:27Short track? I love that.
- 1:30:29So we talked. We talked.
- 1:30:31I don't. Have the patience to I don't
- 1:30:33think I have the patience to sit for a whole NASCAR race.
- 1:30:35No, but hey, fair enough. I hear that.
- 1:30:38So we talked about your mini wedge pass.
- 1:30:39We mentioned you got your A feature.
- 1:30:41You teased a little bit of maybe we got something exciting next
- 1:30:43year if everything works out. But who helps that get you
- 1:30:46right? Get to the racetrack now, who's
- 1:30:48your team and who's your sponsors?
- 1:30:49That helps make the 48 go in circles every weekend.
- 1:30:52Honestly, I want to thank my sponsors, card and associates.
- 1:30:56Blue Jews bull ring chronicles on key DS X throwing left turn
- 1:31:00graphics Ltd irrigation repairs Walter Damn it damn it racing
- 1:31:06videos, all the photographers, all the businesses that sponsor
- 1:31:11every week Plymouth Motor Speedway to get the drivers in
- 1:31:14for free. I know it can be a little pricey
- 1:31:16sometimes getting to the track. My my family definitely want to
- 1:31:24thank them. My dad, honestly, he the nights
- 1:31:28that he has worked the next day, but he's out here till 10
- 1:31:32o'clock 11:00 at night working on the car and making sure it's
- 1:31:36ready for the weekend. Can't thank him enough for that.
- 1:31:41Yeah. Yeah, Cameron mentioned me in
- 1:31:44that sponsor list and the reason I I mean, I'm not going to act
- 1:31:47like I'm throwing a bunch of money Cameron's way.
- 1:31:49I don't have a lot of money to throw Cameron's way.
- 1:31:51But I chose to sponsor Cameron and help out a little bit on the
- 1:31:54team because I think he's such a good kid.
- 1:31:55He has such a good attitude. I think he does things the right
- 1:31:58way. He drives clean on the
- 1:31:59racetrack. He's with his dad in the shop.
- 1:32:02I remember his dad posting a screenshot a few years ago, I
- 1:32:04think maybe before even had the Hornet of Cameron cleaning up
- 1:32:07the shop one day just to do it. And I don't know, I just, I, I
- 1:32:10love a kid that does it the right way.
- 1:32:12And yeah, that's why I decided to jump on board with Cameron
- 1:32:15Crud. And that's why I asked you to
- 1:32:16come on the show today. So keep doing what you're doing,
- 1:32:18Cam. I'm proud of you as a sponsor.
- 1:32:20I just wanted to get that, get that in at the end here.
- 1:32:22So keep doing what you're doing, man.
- 1:32:23Thank you. I I also want to throw Chris
- 1:32:26Kane, Melissa and Dave and all them for, like I said earlier,
- 1:32:29all the lessons they've taught me and the help and yeah,
- 1:32:35definitely want to throw them in there.
- 1:32:38And it's quite an endorsement from Buju too, because out of
- 1:32:41the 19 episodes, you're the 1st guest that he's brought on here.
- 1:32:44So that means a lot, right? Because you're the first one
- 1:32:47that he's, you know, been able to bring on and recommend.
- 1:32:49And so it's like, hey, let's make this work.
- 1:32:51I was at Kalamazoo saying does 8:00 work?
- 1:32:53Because I knew with Kalamazoo Track Services ahead of you, I'm
- 1:32:56like, well, if it's a good conversation, I don't want to
- 1:32:58count them off. And I also don't want you just
- 1:33:00hanging around going, hey, I supposed to be on at 7:40 and
- 1:33:03I'm still here at 8:00 waiting. So so I definitely appreciate
- 1:33:06you being able to come on and and and work this in.
- 1:33:10One thing I'm wondering, you know, especially as I go to the
- 1:33:12mini wedges now up at Kalamazoo and they have Taylor Sexton,
- 1:33:17who's their race director and his help coaching them.
- 1:33:19And we had Kenny head on here earlier.
- 1:33:21Who's the president of that? You know, if you went back to
- 1:33:24mini wedge race today, what would be advice that you would
- 1:33:28give them now that they can see you as the big car driver?
- 1:33:32Like you used to see the Andrew Coats, the Chris Kanes, the
- 1:33:34Cordell Davis's and Melissa Keys as the big drivers when you were
- 1:33:37a mini wedge racer. What's advice that you would
- 1:33:39give to them? Definitely don't go in a Hornet
- 1:33:42thinking that you know, just because you did good in a mini
- 1:33:45wedge, you're going to go doing good in the Hornet.
- 1:33:47It's definitely, you know, you learn stuff in the mini weds,
- 1:33:50but it's opposite. You know, it's different in a
- 1:33:53Hornet than it is a mini wedge. You know, I'd honestly tell them
- 1:33:59everything. Like I said earlier, patience
- 1:34:01and how, you know, you can't just go on a race thinking, oh,
- 1:34:06I'm I'm going to go out there and win this.
- 1:34:07You know, you have to go out there, you know, with
- 1:34:11confidence, but also you have to know in the back of your head
- 1:34:13that anything can happen and you know you can't like you can't go
- 1:34:18out there and then get mad if you get all right, because you
- 1:34:20know that's part of racing. You know, you can't go out there
- 1:34:23and throw out a fit when you get wrecked because that's it's
- 1:34:25going to happen at the end of the day.
- 1:34:27You know, you jump and don't and that's going to happen you.
- 1:34:30Know and don't and don't do what Chris and Cordell do.
- 1:34:33Yeah. Well, I see there was someone in
- 1:34:39here who had said something. Oh, Austin Woodcocks, another
- 1:34:43good driver to. The Yeah, your your grand, your
- 1:34:45grandmother said you forgot Austin Woodcocks on.
- 1:34:47Your list of. Drivers that, Yeah.
- 1:34:50Yeah, because you notice that you're looking at your wall,
- 1:34:52right? Because you probably have hero
- 1:34:54cards, something over there that's reminding you of.
- 1:34:56So is there a driver who you like to that you watch or that
- 1:35:00you grew up watching that you kind of style yourself after in
- 1:35:03terms of like racing on the track?
- 1:35:05Like, you know, that you saw that maybe they raced a certain
- 1:35:09way or they did things a certain way because we always talk on
- 1:35:12here. We've talked in the past of how,
- 1:35:14you know, you never know who's watching and never, you know,
- 1:35:17and obviously the cars are in front of us.
- 1:35:19But that doesn't mean you're watching all 16 cars at one time
- 1:35:22or 14 cars. Like you might have a favorite
- 1:35:24who you're watching. So was their driver who you
- 1:35:27know, and you've mentioned a bunch of them, right?
- 1:35:29But any of one of those who stands out to you the most
- 1:35:32really like I want to be like them.
- 1:35:33I want to race like them or I want to, I want to represent
- 1:35:38myself like them. Anyone that stands out?
- 1:35:42Honestly, I got about two drivers here.
- 1:35:46I'd say Chris and back to the Austin Woodcocks him too.
- 1:35:51You know, I grew up watching him a lot.
- 1:35:55I remember when the straight stocks used to pull out on the
- 1:35:57track. I was always looking for Austin.
- 1:35:59You know, I like where where is Austin at, but definitely would
- 1:36:04have to say those two drivers all.
- 1:36:06Right, a couple things from the chat here.
- 1:36:08Melissa Keys wants us to ask you what you are.
- 1:36:11A retarded race car driver Hey I was I I upgraded to one more
- 1:36:18race car driver for one week and.
- 1:36:21All. Right.
- 1:36:22Tough break, I guess. And then Marcus Vitali, he says,
- 1:36:27maybe you don't know Cameron, help Brian learn how to get
- 1:36:29around South Bend. First time we were there, he
- 1:36:31stepped up and talked to Brian about how he was running and
- 1:36:33showed him the fast line around there.
- 1:36:35Still grateful. And that's why I'm a camera
- 1:36:37recording fan right there. So.
- 1:36:38Oh yeah. He's new.
- 1:36:41I, I figured, you know, show him, show him the line and
- 1:36:44everything that we didn't, you know, give him somebody to talk
- 1:36:48to too, because I know he's new. You know, some, some people when
- 1:36:52they're in a new environment, they don't want to just go up to
- 1:36:55people and just start talking, you know, like be a little
- 1:36:57awkward for some people. But I just saw him as new
- 1:37:00driver. Figured I'd show him around and
- 1:37:04go ahead and talk to him. That's awesome, man.
- 1:37:08So if you had to describe like a line that you like, like you
- 1:37:11talked about your line and how you hold it and how you know
- 1:37:14that you can get better with that, how would you describe
- 1:37:17that to somebody who especially somebody who may not know
- 1:37:20Plymouth, right? Maybe it's not Racer before or
- 1:37:23South Bend, like they know the tracks, but they've never been
- 1:37:25there. So like how would you describe
- 1:37:27for you like your best line around like a Plymouth?
- 1:37:33Nice. Let's see.
- 1:37:39I don't want to tell my exact line here, but.
- 1:37:42If you had to describe it to somebody.
- 1:37:45Probably just, you know, when you're going into the turn, you
- 1:37:49want to keep it not in the grass, but you want to get down
- 1:37:52there. You know, you want to leave room
- 1:37:53in between the gas and the tracks where you're not in the
- 1:37:55grass. You don't want to leave enough
- 1:37:57room for a car to get under there under you and take that
- 1:38:00position from you. But on the outside, you
- 1:38:03definitely want to go, I want to say all the way up at Plymouth,
- 1:38:06I'd say right above that middle groove, right there on the track
- 1:38:10on the outside and just run that.
- 1:38:14I thought Hornets like the grass, but that's maybe that's
- 1:38:17just elsewhere, I don't know, but.
- 1:38:19You definitely feel it when you go on the grass, it don't feel
- 1:38:22too nice. Feel that?
- 1:38:24Bump and you're like, oh. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:38:28Well, and that's where, like I said, the, you know, we were
- 1:38:31catching up with the chat. I'm glad because you got to that
- 1:38:33cause with Melissa, Melissa Keys coming in.
- 1:38:35And that's something that when I first go started going to South
- 1:38:37Bend in 2017 and I started to get to know the drivers,
- 1:38:41especially with the outlaw front wheel drivers, the two drivers
- 1:38:43that I always look for were David and Melissa at that point,
- 1:38:47because they were always put on the battle.
- 1:38:48They were always racing. And so and then to learn that
- 1:38:51they came from Ileana, where I had also been to Ileana before,
- 1:38:54that was really cool. And I'm obviously Melissa does
- 1:38:57incredible work with left turn graphics.
- 1:38:58She's really built that up and does, I mean, her works all
- 1:39:01over. And so that's something that
- 1:39:04again, it, you know, those are two people who I have a lot of
- 1:39:06respect for, you know, and just what they do.
- 1:39:10And those are people who I miss getting a chance to watch now as
- 1:39:13I've gone all these other places where I mean, they know what
- 1:39:16they're doing. So again, you can't have better
- 1:39:18people in your corner, it sounds like, especially with the the
- 1:39:21cast or crew who you mentioned. So I want you to think about it
- 1:39:25this way with that cast or crew. Let's say we put you all on a
- 1:39:28track 1 by 1. It's like a spectator race.
- 1:39:30You know who's winning the drag race between you and Melissa
- 1:39:33Keys? 3 laps.
- 1:39:41I don't know. You can brag them yourself by
- 1:39:43the way too. I.
- 1:39:47Don't know. I feel like it'd be close,
- 1:39:49especially if we're starting side by side.
- 1:39:54I feel like it'd be close. I don't, I, I don't know who'd
- 1:39:57win that. Be honest.
- 1:39:59All right, you and Cordell Fresh talking loud aren't.
- 1:40:06You. I don't want to say, is he?
- 1:40:16He's too humble. He's a better trash talker when
- 1:40:18he was 12 than he is now. Well, think, think about it this
- 1:40:23way. Who runs a similar line to you?
- 1:40:27That would be a drag race to the line you prefer to run maybe
- 1:40:32than someone who's like opposite of you.
- 1:40:34Yeah, maybe. Who do you think?
- 1:40:35Maybe. Who do you think is you're the
- 1:40:36most alike in your group? Maybe that's the question I'd.
- 1:40:41Have to say, Chris. That's fair.
- 1:40:46I don't want you behind me in the future then because that
- 1:40:47means my back bumper is going to get beat off.
- 1:40:50Chris came behind you. I've given Chris the finger
- 1:40:56before. We're being honest anyways.
- 1:41:02That on video too, so you know, but again, that's you know,
- 1:41:07that's where you know, 1 you know, credit to the Hornets and
- 1:41:11I know you know, Buju and I've had this conversation too.
- 1:41:13You know, the Hornet class doesn't get enough respect from
- 1:41:16a majority of people, right? It's kind of like the bathroom
- 1:41:20break for some race fans where I just went straight stock racing
- 1:41:23and it's like, well, the Hornets bring the most cars usually on
- 1:41:27most track days and most pit crew and most family like, you
- 1:41:32know all that. But to compete in that division
- 1:41:36and Northwest Indiana, I mean, that's one of the toughest
- 1:41:39divisions in Northwest Indiana to be in, especially that South
- 1:41:43Bend Plymouth group, which a lot of them are the same drivers.
- 1:41:46You know, they some of them have been racing together for years
- 1:41:49and they know, right? But I mean, when Buju was
- 1:41:52pretending to be a Hornet driver, the rest of his family
- 1:41:55was racing. He pretended to get into the A
- 1:41:58feature at one point like that was like minimal difference
- 1:42:02between 1st and I even think one time is all the way back to
- 1:42:0520th, like it could have shaken down any other way.
- 1:42:08So when you think about, you know, when you're competing with
- 1:42:11that group and you get a chance to take the track each time.
- 1:42:16Do you have any superstitions that you go through that might
- 1:42:19help give you the magic sauce to beat a group like that that
- 1:42:23you're competing with week in and week out?
- 1:42:28Honestly, don't you know I not really you?
- 1:42:33Just trap it and go. I, I like to throw in there too,
- 1:42:36a lot of people don't really think about it.
- 1:42:38You know, these St. stocks and outlaw late models and all that.
- 1:42:41They get to do all this set up and stuff.
- 1:42:43We only get so much set up. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:42:47They're on Hoosiers and all that, and we're on just the
- 1:42:49normal street tires. So in a way, you know, yes, the
- 1:42:53street socks and all them are faster and stuff like that, but
- 1:42:57we only get so much set up that we can play with.
- 1:43:01Legal. It's not as people, it's not as
- 1:43:05easy as like some fans would say it is, but yeah.
- 1:43:11Well, those that's mostly social media people who've never been
- 1:43:14in a car and anything just because they can do I racing
- 1:43:16that that makes them a racer. But there's a quite enough and
- 1:43:19not saying that I racing doesn't help, right?
- 1:43:21That's a very valuable tool that a lot of people use.
- 1:43:23But sometimes the ones who are the loudest are the ones who've
- 1:43:26actually never ever put on a real helmet with a real fire
- 1:43:29suit inside a real car on a real racetrack with real fans in the
- 1:43:33stands and real things that can happen, right?
- 1:43:36Your car, if you hit the wall, doesn't just spawn and you can
- 1:43:38go again, right, Like and that's not knocking.
- 1:43:40I racing, like I said, it's a helpful tool and it's a helpful
- 1:43:43thing, but sometimes those who are the loudest are the ones
- 1:43:46who've never done it and won't ever do it because it's too
- 1:43:48expensive, but they don't mind you spending the money to do it
- 1:43:51right so. They don't, they don't think.
- 1:43:53They just think it, you know, just because they've watched one
- 1:43:56race, they, you know, they can go out there and do that, But
- 1:43:59it, it takes more honestly, you know, it takes practice and
- 1:44:03dedication. Once I've I've learned is from
- 1:44:08David Keyes, he says, you know, you don't, you don't win races.
- 1:44:12You win races in the garage. You know, you got to make sure
- 1:44:16after every week you take the car home, you put on Jack
- 1:44:18stands, make sure everything's good.
- 1:44:20You know, it's not just take, leave it on the trailer all week
- 1:44:23and then go to the track and then expect it to be fast.
- 1:44:26You have to take it off, you know, check everything, make
- 1:44:28sure nothing broke, make sure everything's still tight.
- 1:44:32That's what honestly, that's what wins your races right
- 1:44:34there. So what are the things that what
- 1:44:38are the lessons you've learned in the garage?
- 1:44:40Because sometimes people talk about that too.
- 1:44:41It's not so much even the connections at the track that
- 1:44:43you have, but it's those moments in the garage.
- 1:44:46So what are some things that you've learned in the garage
- 1:44:48while you're working away on the car?
- 1:44:53Car can definitely be frustrating sometimes honestly,
- 1:44:59you know, just learning the work on them.
- 1:45:02Honestly, I, I mean, I didn't know much about cars.
- 1:45:06I, I knew the bare minimum, but ever since I got into a Hornet,
- 1:45:10me and dad been out here working.
- 1:45:12I've learned a bunch on these cars, how to work on them and
- 1:45:16stuff and put the cages in them and all that.
- 1:45:21What's the biggest thing you've learned that maybe you didn't
- 1:45:24like going from a mini wedge to the Hornet?
- 1:45:26Like what's what? What was maybe one of those like
- 1:45:29eye openers as you made the adjustment, you know that you're
- 1:45:33like, wait, what? I didn't realize maybe all of
- 1:45:35that. Probably, I'll tell you what,
- 1:45:41when you're in the Hornet and it dropped the green flag, if that,
- 1:45:44if you don't go, that car behind you is going to go.
- 1:45:47I'll tell you. That, yeah, especially if it's
- 1:45:49Chris Kane. Yeah, that there's some drivers
- 1:45:53that you don't go, they'll they'll make you go.
- 1:45:57But honestly, just, you know, keeping the mini woods you had
- 1:46:02to hold, you know, you had to have a routine like where you're
- 1:46:08going to break and all that. But honestly, in the Hornets,
- 1:46:11you know, you have to keep your you have to keep in mind where
- 1:46:14your breaking points are at going into the turn and where
- 1:46:17you're where you're start to get back into the throttle where you
- 1:46:21should do all that. And it you definitely had to
- 1:46:24think about that when you're in a mini Wedge, but you definitely
- 1:46:27got to think about it more when you're in a car, the Hornet
- 1:46:30division. I I like I said, I don't.
- 1:46:32Know your future plans. But and people just assume that
- 1:46:35the radials are easy because they're street tires, but
- 1:46:37they're even different from race tires.
- 1:46:38You have to handle it differently so that that
- 1:46:40learning never stops. Cameron, you learn new stuff
- 1:46:45every day, right? Yes, Sir.
- 1:46:48So you've been at Plymouth, you've been at South Bend.
- 1:46:49What are what other? Tracks have you raced?
- 1:46:52Or what other tracks would you like to race at some point?
- 1:46:57Honestly, I I'd like to go up to.
- 1:47:01Everywhere, to be honest, like I'd say M40, New Paris,
- 1:47:14Kalamazoo, all the tracks around, I kind of want to go up
- 1:47:17to just try them and you know, 'cause like I said, it's it's
- 1:47:23all about having fun at the end of the day.
- 1:47:24So if you, if you do good at this track, you know, some
- 1:47:28people are like I'm just going to go to this track because
- 1:47:29that's the only place I'm good at.
- 1:47:31But I think in the back of my mind, you would want to go to
- 1:47:33the track you're not good at over and over again just so you
- 1:47:37can like try different stuff and see, you know, you don't want to
- 1:47:41just go to a track just because you're good at it.
- 1:47:43I would want to go to the track and learn how to run that track
- 1:47:47and even if you, I'm not good at it first, you know, just to
- 1:47:51learn how to run it and hopefully get good at it.
- 1:47:55Well, there's tracks that can be frustrating.
- 1:47:57I know a lot. Of people talk about Kalamazoo,
- 1:47:59I mean. Even Austin Maynard has talked
- 1:48:01about his struggles at Kalamazoo, even though he does
- 1:48:03well, you know, like Kalamazoo, for instance, where I am every
- 1:48:06Friday. That's a tough track for a lot
- 1:48:08of people. And I sometimes remind our own
- 1:48:10drivers who get frustrated. Like just remember, there are
- 1:48:13drivers who have multiple championships or drivers who
- 1:48:16have won on the biggest stage like a Bristol Motor Speedway
- 1:48:18and other places that come to Kalamazoo and it's a little bit
- 1:48:21of a headache, right? Or they just have some monkey on
- 1:48:24their back, not because they're doing anything wrong.
- 1:48:26It's just, you know, at each track has its own different
- 1:48:29talent pool and, and experiences and veteranship and rookie ship
- 1:48:33and all these things that you know, you just the more you can
- 1:48:37travel and learn, which I know is expensive to do right, but
- 1:48:40the more you can go. I mean, that's a really awesome
- 1:48:42attitude to have is I don't know if I don't do so well at a
- 1:48:45place, I feel like I want to go back just to figure it out.
- 1:48:47And and you're right there a lot of people who, who won't do
- 1:48:49that, you know, they're going to go where they're comfortable and
- 1:48:51it's warm and fuzzy makes them feel good.
- 1:48:54And you know, but then you're right too.
- 1:48:56If you know, are they missing out then right of getting not
- 1:49:00maybe getting better because we're not assuming they're bad,
- 1:49:03right? But they're not challenging
- 1:49:05maybe themselves to. So yeah, you might get 10th
- 1:49:08place, but what'd you learn? Right?
- 1:49:09You might get 20th place, but what'd you learn?
- 1:49:11And another thing, you can't just go say you go to Plymouth.
- 1:49:17And then you go to, let's see you, you go to Plymouth and then
- 1:49:25you go to some other track. And you expect to be good at the
- 1:49:28other track just. Because you've raced at
- 1:49:29Plymouth, it's like that's a whole other track.
- 1:49:31You know, you can't expect to be good at a whole other track.
- 1:49:35Raced at one track. Oh yeah, Well, and is there.
- 1:49:41Anything. You know, let's think about that
- 1:49:42challenge, right? Like from so from a mini wedge,
- 1:49:45right? You know what's something that
- 1:49:49when you think about going to other tracks, because I know
- 1:49:51many wedges have. Done.
- 1:49:52Like did you ever do the rumble? In Fort Wayne, no, we wanted
- 1:49:56wanted to go up there my last year, but.
- 1:49:59With the weather and all that, it was, Oh yeah, the weather.
- 1:50:05Have you guys run the big track at South Bend yet or is it just
- 1:50:07many wedges there? Just many wedges I I haven't ran
- 1:50:11big check. Are you running?
- 1:50:12You running this year? Why right now, no.
- 1:50:16Cameron. Cameron, I need you to I.
- 1:50:20Can't. I don't want to bring my main
- 1:50:21car there and risk. I hear ya.
- 1:50:24Run the enduro car my my enduro car that.
- 1:50:28That still needs a lot of work. Done to it.
- 1:50:30I need a part for that. I need the K frame for that car.
- 1:50:33All right, well, I'm just telling you, you spray out there
- 1:50:35July 4th. But all right, I hear ya.
- 1:50:37So Booty was going to pretend the race, Yeah.
- 1:50:41I'm a yeah, maybe I'm going to be a pretend driver on July 4th.
- 1:50:46I want to be out there, but at the end, I hear you.
- 1:50:48I get it. You're.
- 1:50:49Running for points I get it. I'm not putting pressure on you.
- 1:50:51I hear you. Yeah, anyways, I guess I was
- 1:50:58like after I realized that I wasn't.
- 1:51:00Going to be. Able to run it, I was like.
- 1:51:02Upset at first, but I was like at the end they you know you
- 1:51:05have to you have to look past just racing at South end.
- 1:51:10You have to look at like the things that could happen and all
- 1:51:13that to it, especially if you're in points.
- 1:51:16I hear ya points races after that, I hear ya.
- 1:51:20Well, and that's and that's sometimes why there are times
- 1:51:23that drivers. Don't travel around right, even
- 1:51:26though they want to, you know, they just because of points,
- 1:51:30right? Like if you're in the points
- 1:51:31championship, like I know you get some drivers who are later
- 1:51:36in their career right now who they don't care about points.
- 1:51:38They've done that. They've been there, did that,
- 1:51:40you know, and they and it sacrificed a lot of things to do
- 1:51:43point racing where, you know, now they travel around.
- 1:51:46But then you have others who like, I just want that
- 1:51:47championship. Like talking with Colin Bozell
- 1:51:49last week, right? Like he's pretty committed to
- 1:51:52Galesburg this year because he wants to championship at
- 1:51:54Galesburg. He wants to get that street
- 1:51:56stock championship. So, you know, I can definitely
- 1:51:58understand that sentiment. Like, yeah, it's one race.
- 1:52:01It'd be cool because it's South Bend hits historic and we just
- 1:52:04don't know if there's a last one, right?
- 1:52:06Like we don't know it has a for sale sign on it.
- 1:52:09We don't know. But it's not it's that's one
- 1:52:14race. But I have a whole season still
- 1:52:15ahead of me, you know, So I definitely get that sentiment
- 1:52:18too. Like I don't know if things go
- 1:52:21South and we have to fix the car or build a new car or whatever,
- 1:52:25then the goals that I had are kind of out the door.
- 1:52:28So I do get that that's tough, but.
- 1:52:33What's a race that you're looking forward to ahead you?
- 1:52:35Know, as we get near the top of the hour here and start to wrap
- 1:52:38up, you know, what's a race? You know, we got quite a few
- 1:52:41people still watching, you know, to come watch you event, you
- 1:52:44know, maybe come down and watch you.
- 1:52:46What's a race that you have circled on your schedule that
- 1:52:48you're looking forward to doing or a night that you're looking
- 1:52:51forward to? I don't, I don't know the
- 1:52:54Plymouth schedule, so I don't know if they have a big, well,
- 1:52:57national compacts are coming up on the 27th.
- 1:52:59So I don't know their schedule, you know, so what's a race that
- 1:53:02people should maybe circle on their schedule to maybe come
- 1:53:04down to the playground? I don't Mark.
- 1:53:10Why? I don't really.
- 1:53:12Yeah, I don't I. Don't know that the Hornets have
- 1:53:13a special down. There this year yeah, just.
- 1:53:16Just drew shows then, which would be a.
- 1:53:19Run a Hornet. Class for the St. box.
- 1:53:22Oh yeah, that's, that's definitely.
- 1:53:25One yes. That'll.
- 1:53:27Be a good show, Yes Sir, but all.
- 1:53:33Right. Yeah, See, I didn't.
- 1:53:34Know I I just know Drew's show. Down there this Saturday on.
- 1:53:37National compacts will be there. Do you plan to run with the
- 1:53:39national compacts at all just to give it a shot?
- 1:53:42No, I don't know. Yeah, you, you race.
- 1:53:45Friday, though, right? You race.
- 1:53:48Friday this week though, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:53:50So yes Sir, there you go. Double header at Plymouth this
- 1:53:53week if you're interested in seeing Cameron on Friday in the
- 1:53:57national compact touring. Series on Saturday down there in
- 1:53:59Marshall. County.
- 1:54:02I don't know if I'll do good, but you know, there you go.
- 1:54:04So it's all about. Having fun, being patient and
- 1:54:07learning. Right.
- 1:54:08Yeah, I, I don't know. I don't think we'll.
- 1:54:13Do that actually? Cause no, no, no I'm not.
- 1:54:15I'm not pressuring for the national compact.
- 1:54:17So I'm talking about Friday. You're going to be all right on
- 1:54:18Friday. If you want to come see Cameron
- 1:54:20on the camera race at Plymouth, check him out on Friday night
- 1:54:22this week. What's speaking about that it
- 1:54:26It'll definitely be a week. You don't wanna.
- 1:54:27Miss cause it's autograph night this Friday.
- 1:54:29There you go, another week. You wanna miss?
- 1:54:32Do you have? Anything.
- 1:54:34Special lined up for Autograph Night.
- 1:54:36Like do you do hero cards or do? You do something different, like
- 1:54:39I know a lot of people are showing you different things
- 1:54:40like like actual goodie bags with like a bunch of stuff in
- 1:54:45there. So what do you have planned for
- 1:54:46Autograph Night that people can look forward to?
- 1:54:49Probably just hand out some candy and autograph cards 6.
- 1:54:53Autograph cards, Yeah, that's what I was wondering.
- 1:54:56I. You know, it's almost getting.
- 1:54:57Like these prom puzzles? And all these things where like
- 1:55:00there's a team that I, they had, they spent like $2000 worth on
- 1:55:05like merch and all these things they were doing for autograph.
- 1:55:08And I'm like, it's getting that far now.
- 1:55:09Like hero cards were pretty good, you know, with Ontrac
- 1:55:14design does an incredible job with his.
- 1:55:16Hero cards and. You know, and so it's like, I
- 1:55:19just thought those were like, really awesome.
- 1:55:22But apparently you need to spend a lot of money now on here on
- 1:55:25autograph nights too. But other than that, Cameron
- 1:55:30again. You know, that's where I
- 1:55:31definitely appreciate you coming.
- 1:55:32On tonight and, you know, taking time to chat with us, you know,
- 1:55:36we get, you know, we're, we've been averaging like 2.4000
- 1:55:41viewers, like individual watchers, you know, watching
- 1:55:44this. So you know, that's a lot of
- 1:55:45exposure for your sponsors that you could definitely share out
- 1:55:47with them and say, Hey, I was, you know, on the Monday night
- 1:55:49rewind, which goes out pretty regionally.
- 1:55:52And we have a lot of, a lot of fans who watch from the region.
- 1:55:55So I was so glad to get you on here cuz I know Buju just talks
- 1:55:58you up a storm. And I'm like, I haven't seen him
- 1:56:00since his many wedge days. And that was like 2022.
- 1:56:04So it's been quite a few years since I've gotten a chance to
- 1:56:06watch you do what you do in person.
- 1:56:09So again, I definitely appreciate you coming on and,
- 1:56:11and telling your story. And again, there's some sound
- 1:56:14bites from this that I might end up pulling out just to remind
- 1:56:17people. Patience because you mentioned
- 1:56:20that like, that was a purposeful word.
- 1:56:21You could tell that's a word in your vocab that wasn't like
- 1:56:25fake, right? Like it's authentic, Like
- 1:56:27patience. Patience because there's a lot
- 1:56:29of people who need that word in their vocab.
- 1:56:34So whoever's training you and teaching you.
- 1:56:36And they have that as part of your.
- 1:56:38Just straight up vocab, thumbs up and kudos because that's you
- 1:56:43can tell it's ingrained in you. You mentioned it numerous times.
- 1:56:46And so that's when you know it's authentic that you're not just
- 1:56:48saying the the word of the day, that you know you're living that
- 1:56:52lesson each time you're out on the track doing your thing.
- 1:56:55So again, just whoever's I and I know you've mentioned them, but
- 1:56:59just kudos to them because I know some of them have been
- 1:57:01watching. And then definitely if you're
- 1:57:04needing hero card, no on track design, see Jay Fried's on here.
- 1:57:08We should get Jay Fried on here at some point.
- 1:57:09I don't know if he'd want to come on the Monday night rewind,
- 1:57:11but maybe we can get him on here and he could tell all of his
- 1:57:14good stories because I know he's been in racing for a long time
- 1:57:17and and has just his archive of photos that he's able to post
- 1:57:21are just incredible too. So he's definitely someone.
- 1:57:24Sibuju, you can work on your second guest.
- 1:57:26There we go. You can give Louis a little bit
- 1:57:30of a break. You can.
- 1:57:31Schedule the next month. But but again, Cameron, good
- 1:57:35luck this Friday night at the Plymouth Motor Speedway.
- 1:57:37Again, for anyone who wants to go down to the playground of
- 1:57:39power. Yeah.
- 1:57:43Are you? And did you?
- 1:57:44Are you still with Walter? Do you cause your your car?
- 1:57:47Looked just like Sage's and and Charlie's one year, didn't it,
- 1:57:50if I remember right, Like the mini wedge.
- 1:57:52Yep, Yep. So yeah, 'cause that that's that
- 1:57:55was the mini. Wedge design that.
- 1:57:56Was going through my head is well.
- 1:57:58Didn't he just look like Charlie and Sage the one year like
- 1:58:01almost identical. Oh yeah, again, 22 cool cats
- 1:58:05that you can't go wrong. With either, so I'm.
- 1:58:07A big fan of. Charlie and stage, but other
- 1:58:10than that, I know it's getting late for all of us.
- 1:58:12And. But again, thank you so much for
- 1:58:14coming on, Cameron. Yeah, thanks.
- 1:58:17Oh, yeah. And like I said, you gave me a
- 1:58:19lot of sound. Bites so while you're on.
- 1:58:20Here you can. Enjoy the last little bit of the
- 1:58:22show or you're welcome to if you want to leave yourself.
- 1:58:24It's OK. We're we're only on here for
- 1:58:26like 2 more minutes as I do the final rundown.
- 1:58:29So again for the Monday night rewind, our 19th episode
- 1:58:33continue to share out like it. It continues to help us grow and
- 1:58:38it's just OK. Short track racing in northwest
- 1:58:40India, southwest Michigan. Again, earlier today we had Joe
- 1:58:44Schaefer and Ron Crandall from the Kalamazoo Track services
- 1:58:48team who were on for the first hour and they talked about all
- 1:58:51about track safety, things they've seen, things you can do
- 1:58:54as a driver, things for fans to know.
- 1:58:56And then we just finished chatting up with Cameron
- 1:58:58Mccradden who races down at the Plymouth Motor Speedway in the
- 1:59:01Hornet class. Don't forget this Thursday at
- 1:59:037:00 PM we have the Thursday night Throttle where Boosie and
- 1:59:06I are back to talk about the upcoming weekend and storylines
- 1:59:08heading into the weekend. And then one more reminder.
- 1:59:13Again, if you're looking for a car detail up here in Bridgeman,
- 1:59:16Michigan, definitely take advantage of the ELH detailing
- 1:59:19offer where for each time you buy a detail, if you, especially
- 1:59:23if you have a daily driver and you have a collector car or
- 1:59:25whatever it may be, head on over to EH Detailing.
- 1:59:28Get it scheduled. Our first one that we will
- 1:59:30announce for free detail for anyone who's used the code top
- 1:59:34row will be July 13th right here on the Monday Night Rewind.
- 1:59:37I'm going to actually try to have Eddie on here to help
- 1:59:39announce that. And that's one week after Leah
- 1:59:42Dibble and the World of Outlaws will have the first hour on July
- 1:59:466th, I want to say. So we'll we're working on some
- 1:59:49World of Outlaw things for that week.
- 1:59:51So Monday Night Rewind, Leah Dibble will be back.
- 1:59:53So one week after Leah Dibble will be July 13th, we'll hand
- 1:59:56that out. And then the other one will be
- 1:59:59October 12th, just in time for the fall season, especially to
- 2:00:02get the winter coatings ready because, you know, once October
- 2:00:05rolls around, you just never know what you're going to get
- 2:00:07weather wise in southwest Michigan and Northwest Indiana.
- 2:00:10So before we head out, anything again, good for the group.
- 2:00:14Cameron, thank you for having me again, you know.
- 2:00:21Michael, I was nervous coming on here.
- 2:00:24Hey, you didn't see nervous? You did?
- 2:00:25Yeah, you did good. Good.
- 2:00:26You did good man. Thank you.
- 2:00:30I know. As someone who was a guest, my
- 2:00:32first. Time on here.
- 2:00:33I know it's awkward. So you did.
- 2:00:35You did do good. I.
- 2:00:35Promise you, yeah. That's why we try to do.
- 2:00:38I call it a shoot first, aim second.
- 2:00:40You know, kind of like. When you might learn the story
- 2:00:43one day about how George W Bush shot his own, you know, cabinet
- 2:00:46member and, and it's all about aim for or shoot first, aim 2nd.
- 2:00:49And, you know, we try to be relaxed and, you know, not
- 2:00:53scripted or anything like that. Like, I don't have anything in
- 2:00:55front of me for questions. It's just what comes off top.
- 2:00:57Buju doesn't, although if you see him in the tower at New
- 2:01:00Paris, he has paper literally everywhere.
- 2:01:03The one day I almost wanted to mess it up while I was up there
- 2:01:05hooking for the sound system. I wanted to he wasn't around and
- 2:01:09I'm like, this is so super tempting right now.
- 2:01:11But then I'm like, you know, he is a Co host of two shows that
- 2:01:16are super popular right now. So it's like you don't you don't
- 2:01:19kind of mess with your Co host when but it'd be super fun.
- 2:01:23And so lesson to him is probably, you know, I didn't do
- 2:01:26it, but that doesn't mean Chris might not pull a joke out.
- 2:01:29So you know, I was tempted and I steered the other direction.
- 2:01:34So just remember that Buju, I could have so messed up your
- 2:01:37whole thing, but I'm start taking the notebook with me.
- 2:01:40It sounds like your note cards. I'm like, Oh yeah, yeah, I moved
- 2:01:45on. I moved on from the note cards.
- 2:01:46That was a bad idea on my. Part I'm like, is he getting
- 2:01:49ready for the ACT or something up in here 'cause?
- 2:01:51It's bad like a nursing student, like that's what a nursing
- 2:01:54student, that's what their. Thing would look like.
- 2:01:56Is note cards everywhere? So anyways, I all thought myself
- 2:02:00the note cards, but yeah, but other than.
- 2:02:03That I know it's 9:00. So again, Cameron, thank.
- 2:02:05You so much for joining. And this is Buju's favorite
- 2:02:07part. I always get to say it's almost
- 2:02:09time to turn left and go fast because see you at the races.
- 2:02:12We'll see everyone. Thank you again.
