The historic Coming Street YWCA in Charleston, once a beacon of empowerment for Black girls and activists in the 1970s, is being demolished to make way for new dorms — but its legacy lives on. Under the leadership of trailblazer Christine Osburn Jackson, this space hosted civil rights marches, nurtured future leaders like news anchor Carolyn Murray, and hosted Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations long before they became national holidays.
