- 0:00Speaker 1: So you know what I mean, well spoken individual, are
- 0:04Speaker 1: so well spoken.
- 0:05Speaker 2: You have a good show on you too.
- 0:07Speaker 3: I keep myself busy. Yeah, you've done a great job
- 0:11Speaker 3: transitioning fight. Thank you very much.
- 0:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean as as a former fighter or like
- 0:17Speaker 4: all athletes. I mean, you guys did very well. But
- 0:19Speaker 4: fighters in particularly, it's a hard road, you know what
- 0:22Speaker 4: I mean. And then not a lot of fighters make money,
- 0:25Speaker 4: you know, there's only the tip of the iceberg. And
- 0:27Speaker 4: I'm not talking about in the UFC. I mean to
- 0:29Speaker 4: get to the UFC. I mean that in itself is
- 0:32Speaker 4: very hard, you know, but to really be able to
- 0:35Speaker 4: retire comfortably, you know, only the only a select few
- 0:39Speaker 4: get to do that, you know, in in any professional sports.
- 0:42Speaker 4: I mean, if you look at soccer, right, how many
- 0:44Speaker 4: people play soccer, you know, and how many people get
- 0:47Speaker 4: to actually really make a living. So yeah, retiring as
- 0:49Speaker 4: a fighter still being involved with the sport, commentating in
- 0:53Speaker 4: the UFC, it couldn't have worked out any better.
- 0:55Speaker 2: And I'm a very happy man. Do you feel like
- 0:57Speaker 2: you retired comfortably?
- 0:58Speaker 3: Oh?
- 0:59Speaker 4: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 1:00Speaker 2: At the time.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, I had a great career, you know,
- 1:02Speaker 4: I mean I was able to win the belt, defend
- 1:03Speaker 4: it out some championship fights. You know, I was repping
- 1:08Speaker 4: the UK for a long time as well. So I
- 1:10Speaker 4: had a great career. I had a long run. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:14Speaker 4: very comfortably. I mean, you can always be more comfortable. Question. Yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying and over again. Yeah, Dana
- 1:21Speaker 4: always looked after me and I always did very well.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Did Were you doing any of the media stuff while
- 1:27Speaker 3: you were fighting or was that a transition you made
- 1:29Speaker 3: right when you got done.
- 1:30Speaker 4: No, so I was doing it whilst I was fighting
- 1:31Speaker 4: as well. Is this sound okay for you guys? Close enough? Yeah?
- 1:35Speaker 4: So so you probably know maybe you don't so I
- 1:37Speaker 4: don't see my right eye the yeah, yeah story. So,
- 1:41Speaker 4: so when I started having the I issues, because obviously
- 1:45Speaker 4: you want to be a champion and all the rest
- 1:47Speaker 4: of it, When I started having the I issues and
- 1:49Speaker 4: I was told I was never going to be able
- 1:50Speaker 4: to fight again, and I did carry on fighting, and
- 1:53Speaker 4: I was lying and cheating on tests and all the
- 1:54Speaker 4: rest of it, doing whatever I could, right, But I
- 1:57Speaker 4: was like, this isn't going to last forever. I've got
- 1:59Speaker 4: to figure out I can. I know my door is closing,
- 2:02Speaker 4: the options are going to go away soon. So I
- 2:04Speaker 4: started doing as much of that stuff as I could,
- 2:06Speaker 4: working on Fox Sports at the time, and then started
- 2:09Speaker 4: a podcast and then just whatever else I could do
- 2:12Speaker 4: whilst I still had a platform and whilst people still
- 2:15Speaker 4: gave it that. You know what I'm saying, because when
- 2:17Speaker 4: you desire your old.
- 2:18Speaker 1: News it was if it wasn't for the eye, do
- 2:20Speaker 1: you think you would have had the idea to kind of, Okay,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I need to find out some different avenues because as
- 2:25Speaker 1: as athletes, like for me, there was never a play
- 2:27Speaker 1: b you kind of just think I'm gonna play football
- 2:29Speaker 1: and then I'll die on the field your greatest order
- 2:31Speaker 1: to go out that way, not for sure, and that's
- 2:34Speaker 1: always the goal, that's what you want to do.
- 2:35Speaker 4: You got to be single minded to be successful and
- 2:38Speaker 4: to be great at anything, You've got to be lied that.
- 2:41Speaker 4: But of course you'd be a fool not to realize
- 2:43Speaker 4: that there's a life after fighting, you know. I mean,
- 2:46Speaker 4: I think it was two thousand and nine I started
- 2:48Speaker 4: doing a little bit of acting and stuff like that.
- 2:49Speaker 4: I never thought I'd end up doing that, but I
- 2:51Speaker 4: just got offered an acting roll out of the blue,
- 2:53Speaker 4: so I was like, yeah, fucking why not, let's give
- 2:55Speaker 4: it a shot. The next thing, I'm in Austin, Texas,
- 2:57Speaker 4: spent my per day and for the Inside issue. On
- 3:00Speaker 4: the first night with my buddy, we had a great
- 3:02Speaker 4: night out turned the post. I hung over to the mics,
- 3:04Speaker 4: thinking what am I doing here, but then ended up
- 3:07Speaker 4: loving the entire process and done that stuff ever since
- 3:10Speaker 4: as well. So yeah, I mean I always kind of
- 3:13Speaker 4: had part in the pun, one eye on doing other stuff.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Nice. Now that's about the legacy.
- 3:18Speaker 3: We were a little birdie totalist that you had a
- 3:21Speaker 3: DJ career DJ mikey Be.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It's nothing to write home about. So yeah, I mean, listen,
- 3:28Speaker 4: I was obsessed with martial arts as a kid, and
- 3:31Speaker 4: then one day I was walking home from work when
- 3:33Speaker 4: I was sixteen, and my buddy had a set of decks.
- 3:36Speaker 4: I went into his house and you know, they were
- 3:38Speaker 4: smoking weed and stuff. I was never a weed smoker,
- 3:40Speaker 4: but I saw the decks and the turntables and I
- 3:43Speaker 4: just thought that was the coolest thing ever at sixteen,
- 3:45Speaker 4: So I stopped doing martial arts and became DJ mikey Bee.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I put all my effort into that, and I had
- 3:51Speaker 4: a little bit of a you know, following or whatever.
- 3:54Speaker 4: I did okay for a while, but but you know, nothing,
- 3:57Speaker 4: nothing to write home about.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You know what.
- 3:59Speaker 4: I still spin the turntables a bit for fun when
- 4:02Speaker 4: I'm bored. I might do the occasional set here and there,
- 4:04Speaker 4: but I've hung up the records a long time ago.
- 4:08Speaker 3: You stopped MMA so that you were doing the DJ stuff,
- 4:10Speaker 3: and then I was like, okay, let me get back
- 4:11Speaker 3: into the fighting.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, well I wasn't doing mm A. I was
- 4:14Speaker 4: doing martial arts. You know, a lot of martial arts
- 4:16Speaker 4: tournaments and stuff. But so yeah, I put all my
- 4:18Speaker 4: efforts into being a DJ. And then I met my
- 4:22Speaker 4: girlfriend who's now my wife, and we had two children,
- 4:25Speaker 4: and then I was like, yeah, I don't think this
- 4:27Speaker 4: is happening, you know what I mean. There were some
- 4:30Speaker 4: pretty rundown venues in the northwest of England, you know
- 4:34Speaker 4: what I mean. We're not exactly talking excess at the wind.
- 4:38Speaker 4: This is not what we're talking about, guys, Vegas. I
- 4:43Speaker 4: don't even know about that. Get to it, Betha, you
- 4:45Speaker 4: know Bezas Yeah, yeah, yeah no. And then when the
- 4:50Speaker 4: kids came along, I was like, what am I doing
- 4:52Speaker 4: with myself? And I was always getting into scraps, you know,
- 4:56Speaker 4: on fights. When I was a kid, I was that
- 4:57Speaker 4: was that kind of guy. And then I actually I
- 5:00Speaker 4: went to prison. I got sent down for twenty eight days.
- 5:02Speaker 4: And it was when I was sitting in the holding
- 5:05Speaker 4: cell waiting to be assigned by cell. I was sitting there,
- 5:07Speaker 4: I was thinking, what is going on? What is how
- 5:11Speaker 4: I ended up here? And I'm sitting in this holding
- 5:13Speaker 4: cell and there's old drug addicts and dead beats around me,
- 5:16Speaker 4: and they're like, look coming up, Dren, went you in
- 5:18Speaker 4: for me?
- 5:19Speaker 3: You know?
- 5:19Speaker 4: And I'm like, don't talk to me, stay away from
- 5:22Speaker 4: I'm not one of you. And I thought to myself,
- 5:24Speaker 4: I've got to make a change. And right then and there,
- 5:26Speaker 4: that's when I kind of got my act together. And
- 5:29Speaker 4: I'm actually grateful for that judge for doing that, because
- 5:32Speaker 4: I was just reckless and didn't really give a damn.
- 5:35Speaker 2: How do we get in there?
- 5:37Speaker 4: Just I was fighting?
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yeah, how old are you?
- 5:40Speaker 4: What was I twenty two, twenty three? Something like that.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I was always getting fights. I'm from a small town.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Everyone knows everyone's business. Ever since I was a kid,
- 5:51Speaker 4: I always you know, I was just that kind of kid.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I was always down for a fight, and I was
- 5:55Speaker 4: young and I was reckless, and I thought it was
- 5:57Speaker 4: all fun and games, you know what I mean. You know,
- 6:01Speaker 4: I was very immature, let's.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Be honest, you know.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So it really was a wig up calling. It is
- 6:05Speaker 1: what the prison SYSM was supposed to be. It's like, oh,
- 6:07Speaker 1: why need to snap out of it? And it worked
- 6:08Speaker 1: on me one hundred percent, yeah, one hundred percent.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Yeah. So I came out of there and never threw
- 6:13Speaker 4: another punch on the street, just decided to start doing
- 6:16Speaker 4: it professionally. But I didn't find my way to mixed
- 6:19Speaker 4: martial arts then because MMA wasn't really a thing. The
- 6:23Speaker 4: UFC existed, but I wasn't a fan. But then my
- 6:25Speaker 4: old to use an old term sense told me all
- 6:30Speaker 4: about the explosion of something called mixed martial arts and
- 6:34Speaker 4: the UFC and in Japan they had Pride and I
- 6:37Speaker 4: didn't even know what it was. I said, can you
- 6:38Speaker 4: make money? And he said, listen to the champions are
- 6:40Speaker 4: making great money, the celebrities in America that they got
- 6:44Speaker 4: getting into acting and all this kind of stuff. So
- 6:46Speaker 4: we said this whole He painted this whole picture, and
- 6:49Speaker 4: I thought, that's what I want. So I signed up
- 6:51Speaker 4: for my first fight three months later, didn't even know
- 6:53Speaker 4: what the sport was, got the knockout. Two years later,
- 6:56Speaker 4: I was on the Ultimate Fire. Won that next minute.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Here we are talking busting in with bussing with the boy, right?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Was that the big break was getting on the Ultimate Fighter?
- 7:08Speaker 4: Oh? For sure, of course, you know, firing on the
- 7:10Speaker 4: regional scene if you will, that's what they call it
- 7:12Speaker 4: in the UK. I mean, I was the Cage Warriors Champion.
- 7:16Speaker 4: I was a cage Race champion. I was the what
- 7:19Speaker 4: was it any promotion that was in the UK. I
- 7:22Speaker 4: was the champion of as well as the super heavyweight
- 7:24Speaker 4: kickboxing champion. I used to be a bit of a
- 7:26Speaker 4: fat bastard, so yeah, I mean, so then they came
- 7:30Speaker 4: to the UK looking for two guys to be on
- 7:32Speaker 4: The Ultimate Fight to season three, and then we had
- 7:35Speaker 4: these open auditions and had the auditions all the other
- 7:39Speaker 4: people in my weight class. I knocked them all out,
- 7:41Speaker 4: you know what I mean. So I was kind of
- 7:42Speaker 4: confident that I was going to get it. And then
- 7:44Speaker 4: of course I'm allowed my mouth piece of shit as well,
- 7:46Speaker 4: So you want to better drama? So yeah, yeah, there
- 7:50Speaker 4: you go. How was The Ultimate Fighter structured?
- 7:52Speaker 1: Then? Was everybody in the same house. Still, was it
- 7:53Speaker 1: kind of a reality TV show to go with it
- 7:55Speaker 1: as well?
- 7:55Speaker 2: Oh?
- 7:55Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, Yeah, absolutely, And I loved it. I mean,
- 7:58Speaker 4: come on, listen, never been to America. They're going to
- 8:01Speaker 4: fly me to America. I'm sitting in a big, beautiful
- 8:04Speaker 4: mansion with a bunch of guys. We're getting paid to
- 8:06Speaker 4: train and work out. And you walk in and being
- 8:09Speaker 4: coached by Ts and Ken Shamrock and day in a
- 8:11Speaker 4: whites there. I'm like, shit, this is it. This is
- 8:14Speaker 4: really happening. And a lot of people on the show
- 8:16Speaker 4: they were there for the fifteen minutes of fame, you know,
- 8:19Speaker 4: But I was. I was there to kick some ass
- 8:20Speaker 4: and win, you know, and fortune early with a bit
- 8:23Speaker 4: of luck, that's what I was able to do.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So when you go to when you go through the
- 8:26Speaker 1: Ultimate Fighter and you get that bid to go in
- 8:28Speaker 1: the UFC, you said earlier you were really a fan
- 8:30Speaker 1: of UFC.
- 8:31Speaker 4: When did you become like this is this organization? Really?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Wasn't that money in his pocket? This is not?
- 8:39Speaker 4: Actually yeah, it was a fast I just didn't even
- 8:43Speaker 4: really know it existed. I remember I was a World
- 8:46Speaker 4: Championships in nineteen ninety five when I was sixteen and
- 8:49Speaker 4: we were staying in a youth hostel in Auckland, and
- 8:51Speaker 4: I remember in the kitchen in the youth hostel, they
- 8:53Speaker 4: were all watching I think it was like UFC two
- 8:55Speaker 4: or three or something. And I wasn't really interested, not
- 8:58Speaker 4: because I wasn't a fan. I was just, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 4: I was a kid and whatever, and I was too
- 9:02Speaker 4: busy going out with my friends and partying and stuff.
- 9:06Speaker 4: But as soon as I knew there was a viable
- 9:08Speaker 4: career option, and I knew I was getting older and
- 9:11Speaker 4: I'd been in trouble with the law and I left
- 9:13Speaker 4: school at sixteen, I was like, this is probably the
- 9:17Speaker 4: only way I'm going to make something out of my life,
- 9:19Speaker 4: you know, because I always said, like, you know, getting
- 9:21Speaker 4: on your lecturer's high horse. But everyone's good at something,
- 9:25Speaker 4: everyone's got a skill. And I remember I remember my
- 9:28Speaker 4: supervisor at the time at work. I was working at
- 9:30Speaker 4: this sofa factory, just like making couches and stuff, and
- 9:33Speaker 4: he said, what are you going to do for the
- 9:35Speaker 4: rest of your life? Michael? He said, you want to
- 9:36Speaker 4: do this? I said, no way, And he said, well,
- 9:40Speaker 4: you know, you think about it. Because I walked into
- 9:42Speaker 4: this factory thirty years ago, and it flown by light
- 9:46Speaker 4: that I said, you're still a young man. So I
- 9:47Speaker 4: started thinking. I said, what am I good at? What
- 9:49Speaker 4: am I good at? And I've always been good at fighting.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I was always good at martial arts. I was always
- 9:55Speaker 4: in street fights. I'm ashamed to say now, but I was.
- 9:58Speaker 4: You know, I was very it's successful. Let's just put
- 10:01Speaker 4: it like that without sounding like a quick So I
- 10:05Speaker 4: said to him, I'll never forget. I walked up to
- 10:07Speaker 4: him and I said, Mick, Mick, I said, I figured
- 10:09Speaker 4: out what I'm going to do. And he takes his
- 10:11Speaker 4: he's got his two belts on. He takes his two
- 10:13Speaker 4: belts off, and he walks off, rubbin his hanse come
- 10:15Speaker 4: on because he was kind of like a mentor, and
- 10:17Speaker 4: he's like, okay, what's the plan. I said, I'm going
- 10:21Speaker 4: to be a professional fighter. And he was like, oh
- 10:23Speaker 4: my god, I thought you were a smart kid. I'm like,
- 10:27Speaker 4: just me, I know what I'm doing.
- 10:29Speaker 3: So anyway to make the call back to him, like hey.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Clean enough. I was googling him last week because I
- 10:36Speaker 4: was talking about this to my wife, about Mick Killeen.
- 10:40Speaker 4: But no, no, I don't. I don't know what happened
- 10:42Speaker 4: to him. Well, you know, I don't think I had
- 10:46Speaker 4: as much of an impact on him as he had
- 10:49Speaker 4: on me. Yeah, it's funny, isn't it. You know that
- 10:51Speaker 4: these people come into your lives that can make a
- 10:52Speaker 4: big impression and they might not realize it, you know,
- 10:55Speaker 4: like a teacher to a troubled high school kid or whatever.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You know.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 11:00Speaker 3: You've had a lot of incredible fights, like what lost
- 11:03Speaker 3: pisses you off the most?
- 11:05Speaker 4: Or what lost? None of them? To be honest, none
- 11:08Speaker 4: of them pissed me off. I mean I'm forty four
- 11:10Speaker 4: now so and I've been midsized twenty eighteen, so you know,
- 11:14Speaker 4: I don't spend I don't keep myself up at night
- 11:17Speaker 4: stewing over them. But what passed me off?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Which one had the most residual effects?
- 11:21Speaker 4: Been times past? Yeah, yeah, I don't again, good question.
- 11:26Speaker 4: I mean the Vanderalaier silver Fire was bullshit. I won
- 11:30Speaker 4: that fire, I was robbed, and yeah, I love that.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Nothing really makes me mad, But you're digging deep into
- 11:40Speaker 1: the you know, fuck Vandalai.
- 11:44Speaker 4: No, No, yes, that one, I guess because Vandalai is
- 11:47Speaker 4: a legend of the sport, and he was actually one
- 11:49Speaker 4: of the guys that when I started discovering what MMA was,
- 11:53Speaker 4: I saw vanderlay files. Oh my gosh, this guy's amazing.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Look at this guy, and I wanted to be like him.
- 11:59Speaker 4: And then so to fire him was a big deal,
- 12:02Speaker 4: you know. And I thought I won the fight, but whatever,
- 12:05Speaker 4: it didn't go my way.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he had all the training videos where he's like
- 12:08Speaker 3: training with the snorkel and ship right.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Like, yeah, he did a lot of he did a
- 12:12Speaker 4: lot of steroids as well. You know, they're the ones,
- 12:16Speaker 4: you know what I mean, the Vito belfour one. Obviously
- 12:20Speaker 4: I lost an eyeball through that because he's a cheating
- 12:22Speaker 4: piece of ship, you know, so I guess there's a
- 12:25Speaker 4: few can go fuck himself. He was like every performance
- 12:31Speaker 4: enhancing drug under the sun. I love Jail. He's cool.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Because he's malthy too, Like.
- 12:39Speaker 4: I wish I could have he never did because we
- 12:42Speaker 4: were both fighting on the same card, but we had
- 12:44Speaker 4: different opponents. And then for whatever reason it's a long story,
- 12:47Speaker 4: somebody drops out, so they rejiggled the card and I
- 12:50Speaker 4: was fighting Jail and this was like ten days before
- 12:53Speaker 4: the fight, so we didn't really have time to turning
- 12:57Speaker 4: him to manifest or to brew. You know, there was
- 12:59Speaker 4: no bad feelings, couldn't you know arise? It was like
- 13:03Speaker 4: before we knew it. We were in Chicago, were stepping
- 13:05Speaker 4: on the scale, remember our square up to jail on
- 13:08Speaker 4: the ways, and you know you're trying and do your bit,
- 13:12Speaker 4: like you get in his face and yeah, fucking dead
- 13:16Speaker 4: that type of stuff. I'm in there because I always
- 13:24Speaker 4: used to give not give him a head, bob, but
- 13:26Speaker 4: just like a little just a little touch, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 4: because you're trying to insert your last minute dominance, you know.
- 13:31Speaker 4: And ChIL just said, what colonna are you wearing? You
- 13:35Speaker 4: smelled delightful? Son of a bitch? You talk about these
- 13:42Speaker 4: dudes taking PD steroid stuff like that?
- 13:44Speaker 1: Was it easy when you got your hands on guys
- 13:46Speaker 1: to feel like, Okay, you got something going on?
- 13:48Speaker 4: Extra do you don't what? To be honest, there's only
- 13:50Speaker 4: one fire that I ever felt overpowered in, even though
- 13:53Speaker 4: I know for a fact I fought a lot of
- 13:56Speaker 4: guys that were using because for a while there was
- 13:58Speaker 4: to sell strong replacement therapy, which was legal. They were
- 14:01Speaker 4: allowed to do that if you went to a doctor
- 14:03Speaker 4: and the doctor signed off on it. There you got
- 14:05Speaker 4: boom you were in and I've never taken anything in
- 14:08Speaker 4: my life, but even still there was I guess Vito
- 14:11Speaker 4: was like ridiculously powerful and explosive with his striking. But
- 14:15Speaker 4: when we clanched up or anything. There's only one guy
- 14:17Speaker 4: that I thought, who's called Matt Hammill. That was a
- 14:20Speaker 4: death fighter that warped my ass in round one. And
- 14:24Speaker 4: I was like a little school boy with him. But
- 14:26Speaker 4: he was on steroids or anything like that. He was
- 14:28Speaker 4: just a good old forem boy.
- 14:30Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 14:31Speaker 4: That give me a good old ass kickid God bless him.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Wasn't just the testa like the TRT that was like
- 14:37Speaker 3: the issue, like what what?
- 14:38Speaker 2: How was everybody? How people able access as so much?
- 14:41Speaker 4: I have no idea, I have not I'm not an
- 14:44Speaker 4: expert on that stuff, but it was rife. I know
- 14:46Speaker 4: it was everyone. You know, everyone's aware with that because
- 14:49Speaker 4: the drug testing back then was kind of like an
- 14:51Speaker 4: IQ test. You know, now we have what we had,
- 14:54Speaker 4: you Sawa, we have another program now where the show
- 14:57Speaker 4: randomly the tests you and you know he's very in
- 14:59Speaker 4: depth and very safe. Back then, it was not all fights.
- 15:03Speaker 4: The main event. Maybe the Colemane. You had to take
- 15:05Speaker 4: a piss test after the fight.
- 15:07Speaker 2: You know.
- 15:08Speaker 4: So if you're smart enough, you know how to cycle
- 15:10Speaker 4: it and get it out of your system. But I
- 15:12Speaker 4: was always so young and confident. I was like, I
- 15:14Speaker 4: don't give a shit, I don't care whatever.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I'm going to get him.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Anyone ever thought about it, well, I'm taking anything right,
- 15:20Speaker 3: like trying to figure out what?
- 15:22Speaker 4: Never. I remember when I was coming up in the UK,
- 15:25Speaker 4: you know it, The UK scene back then was like
- 15:28Speaker 4: the wild West, trust me, like, you know, anyone involved
- 15:31Speaker 4: in mixed martial arts back then the world gangsters and
- 15:33Speaker 4: drug dealers and thugs and whatnot. You know, it wasn't
- 15:36Speaker 4: the professional scene it is now, let me tell you.
- 15:39Speaker 4: And there was a lot of people all taking steroids
- 15:41Speaker 4: on my team and stuff like that. But in my mind,
- 15:43Speaker 4: I was always like, well, number one, I don't want
- 15:45Speaker 4: to do that. I don't need to do that. But
- 15:47Speaker 4: I'm going to the UFC. I'm not here to be
- 15:49Speaker 4: a tough guy in my hometown. I'm going to the UFC,
- 15:51Speaker 4: and I don't want to test positive and get banned,
- 15:54Speaker 4: you know what I mean. So, and of course, ethically, ethically,
- 15:57Speaker 4: of course you.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Know with the ethically part, but everybody's doing it. It's
- 16:03Speaker 1: got to be hard like baseball, and how do you
- 16:07Speaker 1: keep it secret to like you know, dudes are taking it.
- 16:09Speaker 3: And I was like this guy like that lancet arm
- 16:11Speaker 3: showing where you realize like literally every cyclist was on
- 16:15Speaker 3: something Like he was just a guy who was like you.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Yeah, when you're defeated, and this is the thing that
- 16:20Speaker 4: you'll see like eliasa Porius fighting next week and you
- 16:22Speaker 4: have two nine eight and he is bringing with confidence.
- 16:25Speaker 4: He's talking about knocking Bolkanovsky in one round and how
- 16:27Speaker 4: he's not even going to be a fight, because that's
- 16:30Speaker 4: how you are when you're undefeated. Like I was smoking everybody,
- 16:33Speaker 4: you know, I was knocking everyone out in the first round,
- 16:35Speaker 4: and you know, I didn't really have a fight, And
- 16:38Speaker 4: I was like the fucking you know, because when you're undefeated,
- 16:40Speaker 4: you literally feel like no one on earth can beat you,
- 16:44Speaker 4: and it's just what it does to you. And every
- 16:45Speaker 4: time you compete and you win, that is that that
- 16:48Speaker 4: that mindset is further solidified. So I was like, well,
- 16:52Speaker 4: help me knock yourself out, give me the best shot.
- 16:54Speaker 4: You know, until you start getting knocked out yourself eyes
- 16:58Speaker 4: and dribbling, you know what I mean? Doing this dumbling word.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Yeah, doesn't change your game, like when you first got out.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Who was the who was the first of the video
- 17:06Speaker 3: was the.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Show Henderson UFC one. So we coached the Ultimate Fighter
- 17:10Speaker 4: passion Yeah, no, no, listen for a player was on
- 17:15Speaker 4: testasrow replacement therapy. That's noted and in the books it's true.
- 17:21Speaker 4: It's true. No, No, God blessing me got me good
- 17:25Speaker 4: because we coached the Ultimate Fighter. I talked a ton
- 17:27Speaker 4: of shit because Dan Henderson is literally like watching pain dry,
- 17:31Speaker 4: So somebody had to make that show exciting and interesting
- 17:34Speaker 4: to watch. And his's a bit of a prick, so
- 17:37Speaker 4: that made it easy. So I talked a bit of ship,
- 17:39Speaker 4: as I do, and it was stewed from the whole
- 17:41Speaker 4: UK versus US a thing and seventeen seventy six. And
- 17:45Speaker 4: he was the good old fashioned, hardworking, quiet American boy
- 17:47Speaker 4: that's going to come and fuck me up. That's exactly
- 17:50Speaker 4: what I was. That's what he did. My god, it was.
- 17:54Speaker 4: It was the biggest show the USC had ever done,
- 17:56Speaker 4: and I got knocked out in the most spectacular and
- 18:00Speaker 4: then it flies through the airs. I'm already unconscious and
- 18:03Speaker 4: gives me another one. But good times, good times. You know,
- 18:08Speaker 4: you learn lessons. It is what it is.
- 18:10Speaker 2: What was it like winning the belt? The adrenaline when
- 18:13Speaker 2: you were finally like.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, obviously an incredible experience when I won
- 18:20Speaker 4: the belt. After I knock him out, I jump on
- 18:23Speaker 4: top of the cage and I turn around and a
- 18:25Speaker 4: point I said fuck you. But that wasn't really at
- 18:29Speaker 4: Louke Rockhold. That was everyone that wrote me off, everyone
- 18:33Speaker 4: that talk shit, everyone that wrote articles in the media,
- 18:36Speaker 4: everyone online that said he could never do it. He's
- 18:38Speaker 4: a good fire, but he's not a great fighter. He's
- 18:41Speaker 4: not championship material. And they always said that all along,
- 18:44Speaker 4: and every time I got a win, they always said
- 18:46Speaker 4: it was a fluke or whatever. You know, they didn't
- 18:48Speaker 4: know how hard.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I was working.
- 18:49Speaker 4: So that's that was that pure emotion coming out there,
- 18:52Speaker 4: And it wasn't directed at Luke, poor guy. It was
- 18:55Speaker 4: directed at all the naysayers, of which there was many.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Right, it makes a competitor, is all those little chirps
- 19:02Speaker 1: trying to prove some moment, everything personal one way or another. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:06Speaker 1: like oh they said this, and me think it's the
- 19:08Speaker 1: worst thing ever.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Very emotionally immature.
- 19:12Speaker 1: You're finally like getting out of the fighting ring and
- 19:15Speaker 1: going into the media, Like, was there ever a process
- 19:17Speaker 1: for you where you've been a fighter your whole life,
- 19:19Speaker 1: whether it's been professionally or non professionally, and now you're
- 19:21Speaker 1: going into something completely different, Like was there a piece
- 19:24Speaker 1: of your identity that you're like, Ah, I feel like
- 19:26Speaker 1: I'm losing something of myself.
- 19:28Speaker 4: No, not really, because honestly, I feel like that fights
- 19:31Speaker 4: a version of myself. I guess if I you know,
- 19:34Speaker 4: he's still in there somewhere, but I'm a different guy
- 19:37Speaker 4: these days completely, you know. I mean I was, you know,
- 19:40Speaker 4: it was definitely a personality flow. When I was younger,
- 19:42Speaker 4: I was always getting into fights, and that kind of
- 19:44Speaker 4: became my identity, my badge of honor. That's who I was.
- 19:48Speaker 4: And when I was younger, that's kind of like how
- 19:51Speaker 4: I ended up getting friends and being popular and hanging
- 19:53Speaker 4: out with the cool guys and stuff, so only further
- 19:55Speaker 4: reinforced it being this bad boy image, if you will.
- 19:58Speaker 4: And then when I got to the UFC, you know,
- 20:01Speaker 4: I guess again it's it's making me money, it's making
- 20:04Speaker 4: me famous or whatever. But now, I'm ma sure, I've
- 20:08Speaker 4: grown up and I'm certainly not fighting anymore, and that
- 20:10Speaker 4: kind of version of me is it doesn't really exist anymore.
- 20:12Speaker 4: And I don't find myself being combative at all. You know,
- 20:15Speaker 4: I still work, I'll still train every day. Like for example,
- 20:19Speaker 4: there's been two occasions recently where I have been assaulted
- 20:23Speaker 4: in the streets and done nothing about it, full on
- 20:28Speaker 4: punched in the face. And I could I could have
- 20:31Speaker 4: made minskya these two hour souls. Just I was in
- 20:35Speaker 4: New Orleans. I was in New Orleans. I was in
- 20:38Speaker 4: New Orleans and I'm walking down Bourbon Street. I've never
- 20:40Speaker 4: been there before. I don't want to go back. Burbon
- 20:42Speaker 4: Street is a shithole. No offense I associated. I got assaulted,
- 20:47Speaker 4: you know what I mean. And then with my wife
- 20:50Speaker 4: and there's a bunch of young guys like playing on
- 20:52Speaker 4: the upside down buckets and playing drums and stuff. So
- 20:56Speaker 4: I'm doing a little touristy thing. I'm filming a little
- 20:59Speaker 4: Instagram story. This guy gets in my face is that
- 21:01Speaker 4: you can't film. I'm like, yeah, I can. It's a
- 21:04Speaker 4: it's a public place, and I carry on film. He says,
- 21:06Speaker 4: your anger, I tell you again, you can't film. I'm like, yes,
- 21:10Speaker 4: I fucking can, and I carry on film and he
- 21:12Speaker 4: gets right in my face. I said, sog, my fucking dick,
- 21:15Speaker 4: and he just goes fair play to him, fair play,
- 21:20Speaker 4: fair play, shuk my fucking dick, and he just went
- 21:23Speaker 4: boom and punched me. I was there with my wife
- 21:26Speaker 4: and my youngest son, who was he like ten at
- 21:28Speaker 4: the time or something. But the punch was so pathetic.
- 21:33Speaker 4: It literally my reaction. I laughed my head off. This
- 21:39Speaker 4: is not me trying to sound tough. It literally was
- 21:41Speaker 4: like ding and I just I said, what was that?
- 21:44Speaker 4: I said, did you just punch me in the face?
- 21:46Speaker 4: I said, is that? I said? You come up and
- 21:48Speaker 4: you talk all that ship and you punch me in
- 21:50Speaker 4: the face, and that is what you have to offer.
- 21:53Speaker 4: I said, come on, Adam, I was laughing my head off.
- 21:55Speaker 4: So we just walked away. What did you do? Because
- 21:57Speaker 4: he had a swing and kind of get ready. So
- 22:00Speaker 4: I have a YouTube channel and my most watched video
- 22:02Speaker 4: is because because I do a podcast as well, and
- 22:06Speaker 4: this guy put a video out because he found out
- 22:10Speaker 4: who I was afterwards, So I took his footage and
- 22:12Speaker 4: used it, integrated it onto my video. It's my most
- 22:15Speaker 4: watched video. But his version of events is exactly the
- 22:18Speaker 4: same as mine. It's exactly the same. He didn't lie,
- 22:22Speaker 4: do you know what I mean? I told him to
- 22:24Speaker 4: start filming and he wouldn't film, so he told me
- 22:26Speaker 4: to suck his dick. So I punched him in the face.
- 22:29Speaker 4: I'm like, say, I told you. And then recently I've
- 22:32Speaker 4: never spoken about this before I was. I was. I
- 22:35Speaker 4: was back home in Clever, Or where I'm from, and
- 22:38Speaker 4: I was at dinner with my mom, who's almost eighty
- 22:40Speaker 4: years old. She can't walk, she's on crutches, and with
- 22:43Speaker 4: my sister, she's got a newborn baby. So beautiful summers. Now,
- 22:47Speaker 4: it's about twelve of us, a very nice family atmosphere.
- 22:49Speaker 4: It's a five thirty PM and I'm sitting there and
- 22:53Speaker 4: these guys walking, I said, guys sixty years old, old,
- 22:57Speaker 4: drunk bombs walking, Hammad drum and one of he just
- 23:02Speaker 4: walks over to me.
- 23:02Speaker 2: He says, you don't remember me, do you?
- 23:05Speaker 4: And like, whenever I go back, there's always old faces
- 23:08Speaker 4: that I can't remember the names. Well, hello, good to
- 23:11Speaker 4: see yeah, I said, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, good
- 23:15Speaker 4: to see you said you don't remember, do you. I said, oh, well,
- 23:17Speaker 4: I don't remember your name, but yeah, your face is familiar.
- 23:20Speaker 4: He says, no, let me give you a reminder. And
- 23:22Speaker 4: I've got a scar between my eyes where I've got
- 23:24Speaker 4: a big metal stool smashed in my head when I
- 23:27Speaker 4: was about seventeen, and then twenty guys jumps on my head.
- 23:29Speaker 4: He says, look at that you're scar between your eyes.
- 23:32Speaker 4: I did that, I said, right, I said, I think
- 23:35Speaker 4: you need to walk away. So he goes away, and
- 23:38Speaker 4: they sit down the other side of the restaurant and
- 23:40Speaker 4: it comes to the end of the night. I'm paying
- 23:42Speaker 4: the bill and I'm standing by the front door, and
- 23:45Speaker 4: then they walked past again and they start talking more shit.
- 23:47Speaker 4: I said, what are you doing? I said, here, I
- 23:49Speaker 4: don't know who you were. Donor remember it. This was
- 23:51Speaker 4: nineteen ninety seven, by the way, do you know what
- 23:54Speaker 4: I mean? We've all moved on with our line. I say,
- 23:56Speaker 4: he'd at least know like what you became. Well he did,
- 23:59Speaker 4: that's what he doing it. So anyway, as I'm talking
- 24:01Speaker 4: to one guy, do the guy sucker punches me and
- 24:03Speaker 4: he has a ring gun explose my nose. Do you
- 24:06Speaker 4: know what I mean, and then as he hates me,
- 24:08Speaker 4: he falls on the floor right and they just hammered drunk,
- 24:11Speaker 4: and I'm standing there and I'm just like, God, I
- 24:15Speaker 4: could suck him up so easily right now, but I
- 24:17Speaker 4: just didn't do anything, didn't do anything right because I'm
- 24:20Speaker 4: not doing that. I'm not lowering myself to that. I'm
- 24:23Speaker 4: not coming back to my hometown where he used to
- 24:25Speaker 4: always be getting in fights. And they say he's, oh,
- 24:27Speaker 4: Michael Bisbee's back. He's only been back two minutes. He's
- 24:30Speaker 4: already getting into fights. Do you know what I mean?
- 24:32Speaker 4: I'm not perpetuating now. I know who this guy is
- 24:35Speaker 4: because I was not just that. I'm not that guy anymore.
- 24:37Speaker 4: That was the whole point of this. I'm not that
- 24:39Speaker 4: guy anymore.
- 24:40Speaker 2: You know whin in your mind did it shifted. I'm
- 24:42Speaker 2: not going to be that guy anymore.
- 24:43Speaker 4: I'm not there when I was in prison, but still
- 24:46Speaker 4: when I was fighting.
- 24:46Speaker 2: I was younger, yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 4: But when I retired, because I see myself back on
- 24:51Speaker 4: old like old promos and stuff, and I'm like, oh God,
- 24:57Speaker 4: he's that guy. He's that guy, you know what I mean.
- 24:59Speaker 4: I'm like Jesus Christ, So how did your mom react
- 25:02Speaker 4: to that. Well, they could have believed I walked it on.
- 25:07Speaker 4: My nose was all bloody, and they were like, what
- 25:09Speaker 4: just happened? You're only paying the bill. Drama follows you everywhere. Yeah, yeah, no,
- 25:16Speaker 4: my mom's she's seen it before. Yeah, she's seen it.
- 25:20Speaker 2: When you when you're retired, was there thought of you?
- 25:23Speaker 2: There was there a part of you. It's like I
- 25:24Speaker 2: want to retire, but I want to go out with
- 25:25Speaker 2: the wind. I want to go out on top, not
- 25:28Speaker 2: on top, but I want to go out with the wind.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Absolutely of course. Yeah. Because I was going to fight
- 25:33Speaker 4: again as well against Wishard Evans. We were going to
- 25:36Speaker 4: have a rematch, but for one reason or another, it
- 25:39Speaker 4: never happened. And then an old friend of mine said
- 25:41Speaker 4: to me as well. He said, he said, Michael, what
- 25:43Speaker 4: are you doing? And I said well, and then my
- 25:46Speaker 4: manager already as well. There was a few people. I said, well,
- 25:49Speaker 4: I want to go back to London. I want to
- 25:50Speaker 4: fight the old two Arena one last time, and I
- 25:53Speaker 4: want to thank the audience and I want to have
- 25:55Speaker 4: that moment where you take your gloves off and you
- 25:57Speaker 4: put it down and you thank them the crowd, and
- 26:00Speaker 4: thank you for all the support over the years and
- 26:02Speaker 4: all the rest of it, and it was already Actually,
- 26:04Speaker 4: my manager, he's like your romance in that in your head,
- 26:08Speaker 4: you know.
- 26:08Speaker 2: He said, you've got one eye. You want to go blind.
- 26:11Speaker 4: You want to risk going blind because the fight before that,
- 26:14Speaker 4: when I fought Gelvin Gasolm because every time, because I
- 26:17Speaker 4: used to cheat the tests. Okay, they're not that hard
- 26:20Speaker 4: to cheat if if you're a little scallywag like eye
- 26:24Speaker 4: was growing up, they're not that hard to cheat, right,
- 26:28Speaker 4: But the doctors used to always say, you know, you've
- 26:29Speaker 4: been very you know, risky still fighting because if anything
- 26:34Speaker 4: happens to you a good eye, you know, you could
- 26:37Speaker 4: go blind. I was like, yeah, it's fine. And I
- 26:39Speaker 4: was like, well, line is not going to strike twice.
- 26:41Speaker 4: That was my logic, right, It's already happened in one eye.
- 26:44Speaker 4: The odds of that happening on the second eye is minimal.
- 26:47Speaker 4: It's not going to happen. But when I got knocked
- 26:49Speaker 4: out in China, afterwards, we went to a nightclub and
- 26:52Speaker 4: we're sitting in there and my eyes just kept going flashing.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Every time I look left, it would give a flash,
- 26:58Speaker 4: and I thought, oh my god, I remember the symptoms
- 27:01Speaker 4: when I had the detached rettin of the first time.
- 27:03Speaker 4: So that was why, you know, I kind of wasn't
- 27:07Speaker 4: going to fight again. But then I wanted that that
- 27:10Speaker 4: send off, you know what I mean, he reminded me.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I said, what are you doing? You want to go blind?
- 27:15Speaker 4: He said, for what? Some some idea, some theory that
- 27:18Speaker 4: you've got in your mind. This this whole big romantic
- 27:21Speaker 4: send off. He said, you're being stupid. I thought, you
- 27:23Speaker 4: know what, You're absolutely right.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Do you have any more? Yeah? I do.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I mean it's kind of a cheeky question, kind of
- 27:29Speaker 1: you just go on clip or whatever. But I've seen
- 27:31Speaker 1: how the UFC is today. If you were picking out fighters,
- 27:34Speaker 1: if you were in your prime again, who were the
- 27:36Speaker 1: guys that you would love to crack at fighters right
- 27:39Speaker 1: now today?
- 27:39Speaker 4: Yeah? Well, I used to train with him a lot.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Sean Strickland would be easy, works a lot of sogna.
- 27:48Speaker 4: I'm joking, by the way, Sean Strickland's a lot of
- 27:51Speaker 4: son your Driggs DUPLESSI. Who else is in the top five?
- 27:54Speaker 4: Give me all of those? You know, I wouldn't want
- 27:55Speaker 4: to go up. Tom asked me, no, fog, that was
- 27:59Speaker 4: that the size of him. I know you're a big boy.
- 28:02Speaker 4: I'm telling you, whoever wins that fight between Jones and Steepey,
- 28:07Speaker 4: they should retire because they're gonna get their asswarped, simple
- 28:11Speaker 4: as that. And I love Jones and I love Steepey,
- 28:13Speaker 4: and I've got so much respect. Look at what he
- 28:16Speaker 4: did to Pavlovitch. And I was saying this coming into
- 28:19Speaker 4: this fire, and DC was like, what are you doing?
- 28:21Speaker 4: What are you talking about? You know, He's like, you're
- 28:24Speaker 4: kissing this guy's ass. I'm like, no, I'm basing this
- 28:27Speaker 4: off what I see. And he went out and he
- 28:29Speaker 4: did it again, and I don't see anybody stopping him.
- 28:33Speaker 3: With all these uh, with all these fight leagues coming about,
- 28:36Speaker 3: do you think any other league has a shot to
- 28:39Speaker 3: compete with the UFC at any point?
- 28:42Speaker 4: Probably?
- 28:42Speaker 3: Not.
- 28:43Speaker 4: You know, there's always new iterations. There's always people want
- 28:47Speaker 4: to come up and do things differently and change the
- 28:49Speaker 4: rules and tweet this and that. You know, I don't
- 28:52Speaker 4: think so. I mean, it's it's the household name.
- 28:54Speaker 2: You know.
- 28:55Speaker 4: It's like, I don't know much about football. You got
- 28:56Speaker 4: the NFL, what the XFL?
- 28:59Speaker 2: I ever going to accomplish? Really competing like, what is it
- 29:02Speaker 2: called the PFL.
- 29:03Speaker 1: You get the PFL, Let me have a CFL pfil
- 29:07Speaker 1: knocks about the UFLF for the fighters profile everything.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Or the FC of the oops. You know, no, no not.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Because based on like the fighter pay and the the well,
- 29:19Speaker 3: it's always.
- 29:20Speaker 4: What happens from my knowledge is that they try and
- 29:22Speaker 4: poach away other UFC fights by paying them exorbitant amounts
- 29:26Speaker 4: of money that they're not necessarily worth. Sometimes, but in
- 29:30Speaker 4: the UFC, there's no better place. If you can become
- 29:32Speaker 4: champion and you get pay per view points, that's what
- 29:34Speaker 4: you're going to make the most money, you know. And
- 29:37Speaker 4: I always get accused of being a company man. Well
- 29:39Speaker 4: I am a company man and I'm proud to be
- 29:41Speaker 4: so it changed my life, you know, I changed my
- 29:44Speaker 4: life one hundred percent. And you'll notice that the people
- 29:46Speaker 4: making good money, the creme de la creme, the people
- 29:48Speaker 4: are that they're not bitching, they're not complaining because the
- 29:52Speaker 4: money is there, you know. I mean, look at Connor
- 29:54Speaker 4: McGregor for crying out loud and granted he's like, you know,
- 29:57Speaker 4: he's kind of like a unicorn, if you will, But
- 29:59Speaker 4: there's any of other people that are making very very.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Good livings or do you like Chandler McGregor.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Probably Chandler. Let's be honest. You know, McGregor's has been out,
- 30:08Speaker 4: it'll be almost four years by then. He's made so
- 30:11Speaker 4: much money, and the motivation probably isn't there, you know.
- 30:15Speaker 4: And he likes to party. Yeah, and why not after
- 30:18Speaker 4: God bless him? Hey, you enjoy yourself. He's done it.
- 30:22Speaker 4: He come in, he changed the game, won the belts,
- 30:25Speaker 4: made the money. We're boys and Michaels gonna be good
- 30:28Speaker 4: to hear that. Yeah, no, no, of course you are. Yeah, no,
- 30:31Speaker 4: I love Chandler as well. Listen, what else has McGregor
- 30:35Speaker 4: got to prove? The only the only reason he still
- 30:37Speaker 4: wants to fight is because you can have all the
- 30:39Speaker 4: money in the world, but you can't buy a championship
- 30:44Speaker 4: in the UFC. And and as all fighters, we operate
- 30:48Speaker 4: on ego and we want to say we're the best,
- 30:50Speaker 4: we're the toy. And he goes back to as I
- 30:52Speaker 4: was saying before, but me always getting in fights. I
- 30:54Speaker 4: wanted to be the baddest motherfucker around. I wanted to
- 30:56Speaker 4: be the toughest guy. And it's the same ship, it's
- 30:58Speaker 4: the same yard stuff that we're all fucking doing. But
- 31:02Speaker 4: we're professional fighters. They want to be the toughest and
- 31:04Speaker 4: the hardest and the baddest guy. And McGregor wants that,
- 31:08Speaker 4: and he's trying to prove that he still is. You know,
- 31:10Speaker 4: that's why you're coming back. And he's respect from the
- 31:12Speaker 4: fight community and the only way you get that is
- 31:15Speaker 4: by fighting. You can't buy that. So fair play to
- 31:18Speaker 4: him for still trying, you know what I mean. But
- 31:19Speaker 4: he doesn't need to.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Michael Man, thank you for coming on. This is
- 31:24Speaker 2: all the time in here.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Energy was high his careers after it was the reason
- 31:28Speaker 1: why you're successful. And media, I'm quite tired as far
- 31:32Speaker 1: as YouTube show everything. Where can we find yourself?
- 31:34Speaker 4: I don't really like to do that because you just cringe.
- 31:36Speaker 4: I've cut myself out of the but you know, just

- 31:43Speaker 4: You can find me on the you know, nah, I'm
- 31:46Speaker 4: not doing it.

- 31:48Speaker 3: been in front of the camera bike Michael's Bisbee Show. Subscribe,
- 31:51Speaker 3: make sure you subscribe.
