- Scott Brandt: So you ever met somebody that likes to overthink everything and then they don't do ⁓ anything they are trying to piece to the puzzle with everything? It's a it's a very interesting thing when you look ⁓ at downfall of being an over thinker. So welcome to together. We are stronger leadership straight no chasers. And it's a interesting conundrum with a lot of individuals because we want to see the whole picture a lot of times. And when we seek to see the whole picture, we overthink then we miss out because we start asking, what this goes wrong? What if this goes wrong? And the is you're not going to be able to pin a hundred percent down ⁓ of whatever is. Big G: you Scott Brandt: So if you overthink, actually slow yourself down and you're never gonna take action. And then you'll be pissed off because you'll be where you're at a year down the road and you'll be like, this sucks. So you need to knock out the overthinking and it's just, what is that next step? So George, don't know. is probably a joke though. I don't know how much of an overthinker you are. Because there have been conversations that we've seen this before where You just want to know everything. I was like you can't know everything because that's just how this works Big G: Man, it's, you know, it is, it's, you just want to make the right choice. And as I wrote this down, overthinking is like quicksand. The more you struggle in it, the deeper you sink. It's a driven fear, fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of not being enough. But the truth, clarity is the key to all this. But the main thing is doesn't come from thinking more, it comes from taking action. again, that hesitation, right? What do you think? What should I do? How should I do it? When you overthink about things, man, it is, it puts you in your tracks, it just stops you. It's like, what do do now? Do I take a left? I make a right? I? Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: forward, I take go backwards? What do you do to overcome it? And I think it's when it comes to your vision and clarity. I think it's when you have the vision you have the clarity, you be looking forward and moving on. I think a lot of times as entrepreneurs, you overthink what what would happen, what could happen. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: And understand you gotta have that in the back of your mind. But if you train your mind that way, you're be everything that is so simple you can overthink it. And I could be one of those guys, but at the end, I'm ready to strap up the bootstraps and tighten up the chin, so I had some march on. But again, it's that overthinking that will really stall everything that you're working on and it could a murder to your business and to your mind. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Yeah, I think it's a very interesting thing because as humans, humans like to see completion. And so you've seen a lot of times where somebody will start telling a story and then stop and then nothing is finished. And so you start, you're like, what is going on? What is it? And so I think it's a little bit of that too. When you think about the detrimental aspect of overthinking trying to pinpoint ⁓ ⁓ variable that you can think of and to get rid them. Try to make sure that you have A through Z covered when if you're doing that, you're slowing yourself down. And I think there's also where people are like, well, I need to be 95 % complete before I can start. I would much rather be 65 % complete and start taking that action because I will be much further along than somebody that is 95 % complete and starting because I will learn along the way. so when we look at putting together the YouTube channel, using this as a platform to start the podcast. I've told people that with this, kind of, when I look at it, kind of went backwards because the other times I've done podcasts have focused on the audio only piece and then video really never came up. It just wasn't wanted. But that's the thing is a lot of times we like can think of the realm of podcast is the audio only, but Now we went, built out the YouTube channel. if you don't know who Sean Connell is, he ⁓ Think Media. ⁓ so going through some studies with him, he has a model that he uses. And the first thing that he talks about is reverse engineering. And if you really think about that, that is one of those steps that really helps you kind of stop overthinking. Because it's like, okay, what is the big picture that we're trying to go after trying to achieve and then work our way back of, what is the steps that we need to take to get to that in destination? And so I think when you look at it, now that I'm starting to put these pieces together, that reverse engineering piece is a huge thing because that's the goal. that we want to go after. But it's also as you're going through that though, not putting boundaries on, allowing it to have more of a free flow because if you put the boundaries up and you hit it and you're like, I need to go this way, but the boundaries here, it's like, get rid of it so you can have that free flow. And if you need to pivot a bit, you can. And so the biggest thing is really having your focus on what is that bigger picture that you're going after. And then it's just working those steps that are going to add up to get to that bigger picture. And so that is one way I believe if you really sat down and thought about it would help not overthinking because you are working from the big picture back. And so I think there's a lot of people that starts where they're at and they're like, this is where I want to go. And they go the opposite way. So they're, they don't have it broken down ⁓ things to focus ⁓ ⁓ to step on to move forward. They're making it more difficult because now they're worried about ⁓ multiple paths that might come up. And then now they start overthinking and say, okay, if I, if I don't take path one and I take path two, but then I don't take path three, going to happen? And so it's very interesting thing. When you see a lot of leaders, a lot of business owners ⁓ lose because they are so ⁓ detailed and trying to get down to all the fine. fine pieces there. And it's just that it does no good for you because the paralysis by analysis kicks in and you miss out. Big G: Yeah, you do. And everyone's trying to be a perfectionist. ⁓ You really can't do that in business. And you got to shift your mindset from being a perfection to progress. And what that means is that you can sit there and you talked about it. Scott is people just get, you know, what should I do? You know, I have an A-person now and I got to make sure everything's perfect. Well, you know what? You can lose a lot of movement on that. because you know if there's someone out there and giving you critics inner critics you got to get them out of your way anything that gives you any negative feedback you need to move that you know move that individual you're in a circle whatever it is that's causing you to not move and a lot of times what i used to do and i still do is get a piece of paper draw a t put pros and cons write down the pros write the cons and it really has you know you look at everything because everyone's up everything's up here but if you put it on paper you actually see it and you've got to put a timeline on it you can't say okay in five hours I'm gonna make a decision okay what day well today you know or tomorrow that's not five hours ⁓ know so you really have to set a time to make your decision because you Scott Brandt: Hmm. Hmm. Big G: Well, next you know it's tonight's Wednesday, then you try to make a decision tomorrow, then becomes Friday, and then Saturday. And you miss the opportunity. Whatever business you own, you surround yourself with your tribe, you lay it out, and you find a direction that you take to make things happen. Scott Brandt: Mm-hmm. Big G: A lot of times people spin 360 and then they hear something over here and they hear something over here. Cut out the noise and focus on the present. Don't focus on what's going to be five months from now. Focus on what you can handle, what's in front of you and then move on every day because the hesitation and overthinking will kill everything that you're talking about. And I have done and I think a lot of people have done Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: it and you have to admit to it you have to say you know I am over thinking well you know what you need to step back set up a timeline and write down what is key about your business that you're trying to perfect and make progress because they'll say in the hesitation ask deer what happens when he hesitates or anything right you can't hesitate Scott Brandt: Hmm. Mm-hmm. Big G: you just gotta move forward. But when you do make that mistake and it's, you you learn from it. But the thing you're still moving and anyone who well in business, it's not about stop things, let's figure this out. Yes, you have to do those things, but you have to make movement. When you're taking action, things are happening. ⁓ Scott Brandt: Mm-hmm. Big G: That is key to stop the overthinking process. You can always put stuff in your mind. You can always think about, if I did it this way or took it this way. But if you want to be a perfectionist, guess what? You're to be sitting at your desk trying to dry everything out or put everything on paper. And next you know, 30 days go by. Scott Brandt: No. hey, guess what? ⁓ you're finding value in this video, hit that like button. know where the like button is. It's somewhere around here. I we were recording, so who knows where it's at. ⁓ ⁓ you are looking for these type of videos and this is something that really helps you out ⁓ is giving you that different perspective, hit that subscribe button. The item really ask yourself ⁓ is you overthinking, look back at all the times that you have overthought on different things and what have you missed out on or what has been delayed because of the overthinking that has taken place for you as an individual. You'll probably find a lot of heartache that's gonna come out of this because you're like, man, had I done it, I would have been in a different boat. So, but it's a very interesting thing, George, when you brought up the. pros and cons list. Do you think that is ⁓ good tool because as humans we're trying to protect ourselves? So do you think that a pros and cons list is an ideal tool because how much are we going to put weight towards the con side compared to the pro side when you think about that? Big G: Well, that's a great question. And I truly believe it works if you're honest with yourself. And that's the key. If you're completely honest and then if you don't have the answer, you just put it on the bottom. You talk to people who you trust and believe it on their, on, you know, on the perspective. But I believe it does work if you're honest with yourself because we look at, okay, we're going to do a podcast. Let's take perspective from me. got videos, make it happen. That's great. What's the con? I don't know, hope I do well. I had no idea how much work it takes to make things happen. So that was an honest move, right? You got to be honest with yourself when you write things down. And you got to have... You first I mean we talk about clarity right if you have clarity that we're gonna where we're gonna start a construction business or a real estate company or any man doesn't matter you write down what are you trying to do what you're trying to accomplish right you have you have a business plan you know when you look at a business plan you don't see anything negative in it you see everything positive about the business But also that one side was the con. I'm sure if a customer doesn't pay, what happens if this? You take those questions and you be proactive and say, okay, if this happens, this is what we're gonna do. How about you do this and then they have to pay. Whatever the situation is, it's always different. I always truly believe pros and cons. If you're honest with yourself and what you wanna do, Scott Brandt: Yeah. Big G: it would work but if you overthink that forget about it you know you just wish you luck because again hesitation and you know what and I took a lot of notes on this because it is a true it's real thing and and everyone needs to know this you're not alone Scott Brandt: Hmm. Yeah. Mm. Big G: So many people, Scott, that go through this situation and you know people, I know people, and I sometimes look in the mirror and I know that person, but you're not alone. So don't feel that, oh my God, what am I gonna do? Breathe. Take your time, write your clarity, put your vision on paper, write it down, then do the pros and cons. Once you have that, and cut out the outside noise, because that'll always you. It'll always, just wiser traffic when there's an accident. And when you pass the accident, the road is open, because everyone's curious of what's going on, right? Guys. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Mm-hmm. Big G: focus on what you can handle and move forward. Scott Brandt: Yeah, so I was gonna ask because we had talked about the start of the podcast. I know. Do you remember the original like drop date that we had talked about for the podcast? Big G: I think it was August. Scott Brandt: think it was July. I think it was July. And then that just got pushed back because I'm waiting over here. I'm like, okay. And then I'm just waiting to see what are you gonna do. And I don't know, do we have a whiteboard behind that curtain behind you that had like all, it's like that meme. I think I sent you that meme off of it's always sunny. That's what I thought. Big G: It was fun. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Scott Brandt: And so there's been times that I want to put that when we're having conversations because I was like, Hey, we talked about doing it this day and then, Oh no, let's let's wait. And then I was like, okay, whatever. And then Ron's like, no, we're not messed around anymore. I was in the middle, man. I was like, whatever. So, um, but yeah, Ron's like, no, we, need to have a for sure date on here. And Big G: my God, can't believe ⁓ remember that. And you know, again, you know, it happens to the best of us. ⁓ you know, we did start a day that was like July ⁓ 17th some date like that. And then it was August. guys, this is the key. Again, you're in a circle. You know, everyone, my vision, the family's, excuse me, my family's vision and what Scott and Rod did, Rod did was really put it together and say, hey, we're going to do this. And I think I was, I don't know if I was nervous or scared or both, but when you have people around you that support you and really say, hey, you got this. this happen and I start seeing it come alive and like why was I waiting for I was waiting for the perfect time all the stars and the moon to line up I mean again you know you missed that opportunity and thank God for you and Ron really you know pushing the envelope because we got it you know we making things happen and Scott Brandt: Hmm. No. Big G: It's if you're not think about it now, man, you make me laugh ⁓ I know my wife I tell Holly about it should be like But yeah, this is one thing I really kind of I Don't want to say hesitate. I was really kind of nervous about it ⁓ You got to learn right? I'm not I wasn't alone Because I had good people around me that believe in what we're gonna do and here we are You in October making things happen Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: Man, what a blessing it is, man. What a blessing. Thank God. ⁓ Scott Brandt: Well, I I even look at the content piece though, like what do you do in videos? How many times did we talk about? Hey, you need to do videos and you're like, ⁓ no, like George you need to do videos and then you're like, ⁓ yeah, like after you start doing videos, you're like I'm getting people that are talking to me and asking questions as I ⁓ doesn't that sound ⁓ and the ⁓ Big G: ⁓ yeah. Yes. Scott Brandt: I think the situation sometimes is that even with your circle, you can be very close to them and because you're so close that you, goes over your head and then you're like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like I know I'm supposed to listen and I suppose to trust, but sometimes that bites you in the butt. And so it is a very interesting thing because the same thing you were overthinking videos. I don't know ⁓ ⁓ was going on because we've had multiple conversation. But I also put the spotlight on myself though, because Danielle, we had met and somebody brought something up. And this is what I was doing college planning for families. ⁓ And had asked a question. And Danielle looked at me and she's like, you should do a video that I was like, I don't know if I want to. And I fun I looked back at that original video and I was like, this dude needs a breathe. He's about to pass out. But now because I took that ⁓ and on the challenge, look, and this is something that she had brought up today or yesterday. We were talking and she's like, look at it. You started here and now look at where you're at and then look at what is opening up and what is being created and put forward. And she's like, had you not taken the challenge at that time, then like things would not be where they're at. So it is a funny thing. But when we talked about the podcast though, too, I also had highlighted that when I did the first podcast that I had concerns as I was like, why, why should I do this? Who's going to listen to me? so I even highlighted that to you too and said, Hey, this is my experience. But the thing is though, even if somebody shares their experience with you, sometimes you have to go experience it for yourself to really have it stick. And so that's where like when we look back at the first episode, if we go look, we shot that thing four times. And every time you're like, I don't like that. was like, and then you're trying to ask me, you're like, so how do we prep for this? And I was like, I really can't tell you that because they're the only way you know how to is you got to go experience it. So it's a little bit of myself, I'm going to kick you out of the nest and you might not like that, but legitimately, I think for me, when I'm interacting with people, some of the stuff you have to experience for yourself. but I'm here as a guide to walk with you. So that way you don't blow up, but you have to experience it for yourself because ultimately I think that's the only way it really sticks and you see at the end of the day. Big G: Yeah, I mean, to me was so mad. was like nervous mentally, all this stuff. Am I ready? And, know, I read never limit your mental reflex ⁓ once you the lesson and then release it. just release the mental replace because in our minds we go over and over. And like I was when we started this podcast, you know, I wasn't grounded. Meaning I didn't ground myself daily. I was pretty nervous about stuff. is people going to like it? What's the deal? And the one thing that I have to say is I surrounded myself with action takers. ⁓ And that's something that I'm not used to and use I'm the one doing all the action and doing everything I possibly can they be around you Ron and you guys like so when we started George, know, we have these great meetings and that I knew like that question was gonna come up, know, I try to get out of it and I Thank you both because you know you surround yourself with people who take action and Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: You and Ron just freaking went out and did it. we did a couple videos. We had a retake and this and that. But now as I look at it back, I'm like, man, what was I thinking? What was I doing stopping the progress of business? Was I waiting for time? Was I waiting for an answer? Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: And it really just stunned me. It stuns me now that we had a date, yeah, was like July 20th, something around there. And here it is, we're making things happen. It's in October. Guys, as I take, you're not alone. You guys need to take action. And know what? And look back. and say, okay, let's you know, learn from that. So you can teach us just like Scott brought that up to I never thought you'd bring that up to like that. I picked this topic at next year. I'm like, ⁓ my god, I'm gonna be part of this. And the truth. It's the truth is dealing with people who are honest, people who take action in it. And I know I use that word a lot take action. But Scott Brandt: Hmm. Hmm. Big G: We wouldn't be here today if you boys didn't up, take action, ⁓ force me to make things go. And we have everything. We have the tools. We've got the capabilities. And we are today. And I can't thank you enough. And that's where, you know. Listeners need to understand it sometimes it just happens it just happens But you got to surround yourself You got to cut out the critics you got to keep and I know I repeat this self But it is very true That a lot of times and sometimes doesn't happen when you talk to someone one time right Scott Scott Brandt: Hmm. Mm-hmm. Big G: Right, like three or four times, maybe five, get my wife involved. mean, it's, we can keep going, you have great people, you and you trust them and believe in them, it's time to make movement. It's time to take action. Scott Brandt: Go. Yeah, well I laughed too. I'm over here doing numbers because you're like it's October right now and I'm like by the time this one drops it's gonna be like four it's gonna be 16 weeks. So the crazy thing is by the time this drops is gonna be February and so I'm just over here. I'm like, ⁓ man, this is it'll be interesting to see just over that 16 weeks the the growth that takes place it's also one thing that I've Big G: Yeah. Scott Brandt: Harp, I haven't harped on it, but it's a well, Sean, he shared that he's like, ultimately, when you're doing YouTube, when you're making your videos, anything is pretty much anything, you're always looking just to get 1 % better. And so that's the another way to overcome overthinking is really, how do I get 1 % better? And if you think about it, 1 % When you start, 1 % can be huge, but then as you go, that 1 % could be very minuscule. And so you don't want to bring it down as not being important because every time you can improve and grow, it's important because that's helping you level up. That's helping you get to that next level. But it is a very interesting thing when you think about, hey, luck can just think about getting 1 % better. early on that 1 % better could be huge. And then as you go, it could become where that 1 % is very minuscule. And the situation that a lot of people get into is because it's not huge. There's like, what's the purpose of me celebrating that very small 1 % growth that took place. And so it is one that you want to take that time to celebrate. the wins, the growth that's taking place for you, because that's also going to help ground you. And really you can drive your focus on the lessons that have popped up and also the growth. And so it is another way really to help you stay on track. Uh, but it is one thing to be mindful about that. It is potentially going to get to a point where that 1 % may not seem very large. and you don't want to dismiss it because that could do you a disservice. I can hear you, you hear me? No, I can hear you. Big G: might lose them but I have some thoughts I want to bring up you know in a real life perspective over thinking over thinking at all your back you were frozen for a few seconds there yeah well you know you know what I'm gonna tell you what you need to get up there he goes Here's the deal, overthinking keeps, know, when you overthink, you're looking busy, ⁓ standing still. Once you replace fear with faith, the door actually has action and opens up. And I'm writing these down, you know, you think your way into freedom. You have to act into it. overthinking fills your joy and the last one I have to stop stop asking yourself what if declaring let's go and know that's what that's something that you know just on this podcast I had really overcome a lot different things and it really best thing about it was is had to try but surround myself people who saw what we can do as a team and accomplish I couldn't get this far if it wasn't for Ron Scott and that was so important to the and our friendship we're always supporting each other up there Scott there he goes Scott so there's Scott again he's high-fiving us and you know Scott lost you again my friend, but you're still back you're back I was just giving some ⁓ thoughts about stuff and I I think stop thinking about what if you know and start you know start saying let's go and know, I thank you guys for that, you know, I'd love to have you close it up, know into that time and You know, I really I don't want to lose you again. So, ⁓ you know Let you have it all the way, my friend. Scott Brandt: It's okay. It'll be nice once we have like an actual studio that is set up for recording So it's hey, it's okay. I'm here. So it's I don't know. I have all the Wi-Fi off too. So that's the thing So I don't know like what's going on. It is what it is But like I always don't do to like there's some fireballs nuggets that I've dropped here that people that they just want to hear so that's why the Wi-Fi light don't forget you so Big G: We rock. Scott Brandt: But yeah, no, it's just part of the process. if this. Big G: It's definitely going to be so much fun. Scott Brandt: Yeah, if you're watching you're like screw this well, you know, that's just sometimes this will happen So I don't know what to tell you and then as you're listening to this because the audio side for the podcast has been dropped so it's on Spotify and Apple and If you're listening to audio only you'd be like what is going on here because you can't see the video So you just have to imagine that the recording had dropped me off and I was trying to get back in so but Yeah, so just gotta laugh that that's all it is so not overthinking here I'm like trying to lock back in and just wait so it is what it is but the thing is really like we talked about if you're a leader and you know somebody that's struggling with this topic share this with them because ultimately we improve and we become better as a and as a group Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: when we pass on knowledge, when we pass on information and not hoard it. But that's the thing. If you're a true leader, you're looking to find ways to help others improve, share information, share value, give nuggets, but that's on you. And so if you are a true leader, that's the call to action there is to share this out. But if you are looking and you're struggling, you need somebody to help out. If you need somebody to talk to, or you just Don't know what to do. Let us know. Reach out to us. Our email is somewhere inside the description, not the description, but on the page, it's a contact at TWRS media.com. And if you're looking to need a coach for your business, for yourself, consulting systems, reach out to us. Our biggest thing is building the trust, building the community with you. ⁓ bring it to not. Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: bring fluffiness. We're not here. I just tell Daniel I'm in I'm in my air of bluntness right now. And so really, if you are stuck, you need to light a fire under your ass and you need to go but that can be tough because if you're trying to do yourself, you're there because you're by yourself and you've done and had actions that have brought you there. So don't try to do this on your own. We're not meant to do it. We're social creatures. So We appreciate allowing us to be part of your journey. We appreciate everyone helping to grow the community, really supporting what we're building, what we're putting out here. And other than that, we'll catch you on the next episode and hopefully the wifi doesn't do some craziness, but we'll see. Big G: Thank you so much everyone.
