- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good evening from the chicken coop.
- 0:31I'm actually out here tucking all the girls in and doing a
- 0:35head count. And every night I come out to
- 0:37the coop and I walk through and I count them to make sure
- 0:41everybody's here. And if they're not, I go looking
- 0:43for who's missing to make sure nobody got killed or taken and
- 0:46like, kind of go through it while they've been out on the
- 0:48farm all day. And one of the interesting
- 0:51things that I love about this little act at the end of the day
- 0:54is that when I come in here, I collect the eggs.
- 0:58I make sure that I've got them all because, you know, somebody
- 1:02will end up sitting on eggs and then getting angry that I'm
- 1:04taking it away from them. But it's so interesting to me,
- 1:08the patterns of how the chickens behave with each other.
- 1:11And it's so interesting. Just like humans, the chickens
- 1:15have friends that they sit next to every night.
- 1:19The same chickens sit on the same sides every night.
- 1:21When they come in, they can either go left or they can go
- 1:24right. Now, ironically, just like
- 1:26humans, more chickens go. Out of the 61 chickens that I
- 1:30have, more chickens go to the right than the left.
- 1:34Only 19. Between 18 and 20 typically sit
- 1:38on the left, but it the average of every night, like tonight is
- 1:4219 and the balance of everybody else is on the other side.
- 1:46And the Roosters always sit next to the same hens, which is
- 1:50funny. They rarely sit next to
- 1:53different hens and you will find that the same hens that grew up
- 1:57together sit together. The ones that have been with me
- 2:00the longest, they are the ones that sit together.
- 2:04It's like they have their little cliques.
- 2:06They have their little friend group that they stick with.
- 2:09They also have there is a chicken that she does not like
- 2:13anybody, anybody. Her name is Hootie.
- 2:16She's very much an introvert. She looks like an owl more than
- 2:19a chicken in her face. She sits by herself.
- 2:22Now, why am I telling you all this?
- 2:24Because I think it's interesting.
- 2:27We like to believe we're the only ones that have these types
- 2:30of situations and these types of things that go on in the world.
- 2:35But out in nature, we can find it over and over and over again
- 2:38that there are patterns of animals that have friends and
- 2:41groups and the way that they bond and they mourn when they
- 2:46there's someone that's lost. Like right now I have two ducks
- 2:49that showed up in the pond and they are a bonded pair and they
- 2:53have laid eggs, although I don't see her sitting on them that
- 2:56much. Maybe she still hasn't started
- 2:58the process yet and she's still laying eggs.
- 3:00But they're a bonded pair and they take care of each other and
- 3:04he protects her. And it's, it's a very
- 3:08fascinating thing for me to say. Geez, we like to think we're so
- 3:13special. And guess what?
- 3:14We're not, Because just like in humans, sometimes, you know that
- 3:19there's a lot of parables with the hens.
- 3:21We've talked about this before, about, you know, how the hens
- 3:24get along and it's how humans get along and how they pick on
- 3:27each other, and it's the same thing.
- 3:29But at the end of the day, when I come out here and I look and
- 3:33see how they do this and their patterns are the same, it
- 3:37reminds me of how our patterns are the same and how much we
- 3:40have to really work to break them and change them.
- 3:44If we want to reach our next level of greatness and we want
- 3:47to continue to grow, we have to break our patterns.
- 3:50Now The thing is, most animals don't break their patterns.
- 3:53They just do what they do and that's why humans have the gift
- 3:56of free will and being able to say, you know what?
- 3:59I don't like that. I need to break my pattern.
- 4:01I need to do something different.
- 4:03I need to change my approach. I need to go in a different
- 4:05direction because the patterns are very hard to break.
- 4:08They're very powerful. Just like the girls coming in
- 4:11and doing the same thing every single night.
- 4:13The patterns are hard to break. If I was to go up and take one
- 4:16of these chickens from the left and put it on the right, it
- 4:18would immediately scurry down can go where it wants to go
- 4:23because it's set in its pattern. It knows what it wants to do.
- 4:26I can pretty much tell you the first ones that come out every
- 4:29day, they know who they are, they're going to get out that
- 4:32door 1st and we are we are the, the, the factors that can
- 4:37change. We can come in our world and we
- 4:40can change it when we recognize that we have the ability to
- 4:43shift the pattern and we realize that about ourselves.
- 4:46So what patterns do you need to change right now?
- 4:49We're coming to the end of the first quarter.
- 4:53We're getting to that mid point in March where we're looking at
- 4:57things and we're looking at those 90 days.
- 4:59And are you satisfied with those 90 days?
- 5:01Have your patterns been serving you or do they need to change?
- 5:05What has to happen for you to get to that next place?
- 5:09That's what's so important to ask yourself right now.
- 5:12And if you like where you're going, great.
- 5:14What can you do to expand on it? But if you don't like what
- 5:16you've got going on, now is the time to really look at it,
- 5:19discern it, and decide what you want to change.
- 5:21And just don't go in and always pick the right or the left, just
- 5:25because it's where you've always been.
- 5:26Make a choice that serves you all right, my friends, I hope
- 5:29you have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:32Bye.
