Latest / Foul Territory / Fair Territory: NL best record chase, KC in mix? Call-up sensations
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Thursday edition of Fair Territory. I
- 0:05Speaker 1: should say I'm Ken Rosendal here with Alana Rizzo and Alana.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I want to start the show with a quote from
- 0:10Speaker 1: Matt Gilb's article in The Athletic this morning about the Phillies.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's not a quote, actually, it's quoting Matt because he
- 0:17Speaker 1: said something incredibly profound about baseball.
- 0:20Speaker 2: What Matt said is no.
- 0:23Speaker 1: One has any idea about anything.
- 0:26Speaker 2: In this sport.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Now, Matt, of course was writing about the Phillies problems
- 0:31Speaker 1: at City Field and the sweep that the Mets imposed
- 0:34Speaker 1: on them, but it's true, no one has any idea
- 0:37Speaker 1: about anything in this sport, even the people on X,
- 0:40Speaker 1: even the people in social media, even all of the
- 0:43Speaker 1: people out there who think they know more. We know nothing,
- 0:47Speaker 1: which is the enduring beauty of baseball.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And I think what he's referring to, obviously, Ken, great
- 0:52Speaker 3: to be with you as always on this Thursday, is
- 0:55Speaker 3: the Phillies have a queen's problem and the Phillies just
- 0:59Speaker 3: got swept by the New York Mets. What is happening?
- 1:03Speaker 2: Good question if you're the Phillies.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And this is a problem that dates back to twenty
- 1:08Speaker 1: three and includes, of course, the postseason last year, they
- 1:11Speaker 1: have struggled at City Field. It's one of those weird
- 1:14Speaker 1: baseball things. Or the Mets that much better than the Phillies. No,
- 1:17Speaker 1: of course not, but this has had profound implications for
- 1:21Speaker 1: the Pennant races. Suddenly the NL East is at least
- 1:26Speaker 1: somewhat realistic for the Mets their four games back, and
- 1:29Speaker 1: even more significantly, what has happened here is the Phillies
- 1:33Speaker 1: no longer command one of the top two records in
- 1:36Speaker 1: the National League. They were right there or not right
- 1:38Speaker 1: there with Milwaukee, but they were second to Milwaukee. Now,
- 1:41Speaker 1: after last night the Dodgers winning, the Dodgers have slipped
- 1:44Speaker 1: ahead of the Phillies. So for the Phillies it's kind
- 1:48Speaker 1: of problematic. Now the wildcard race is pretty much decided.
- 1:51Speaker 1: You see it right there, the Reds of four and
- 1:54Speaker 1: a half games back. It's like the Royals in the
- 1:55Speaker 1: American League. The Royals are three back in the American
- 1:58Speaker 1: League wildcard race. Affect either one of those teams to
- 2:02Speaker 1: get there, barring some kind of Minnesota Twins twenty twenty
- 2:05Speaker 1: four collapse. But these races are still alive. The Division races,
- 2:10Speaker 1: as we'll discuss in a little bit, are quite good
- 2:12Speaker 1: as well. But the Phillies thing, there was not a race.
- 2:16Speaker 1: There were seven games up going into this series, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: now there is one because they're only four games up.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And yeah, if you're the Phillies, you're wondering what the
- 2:24Speaker 1: heck is going on. And from the Mets perspective, Nolan McClain,
- 2:28Speaker 1: last night, this kid suddenly looks like an ace. They
- 2:31Speaker 1: are hitting again. Yent Dos is hitting again. You've got
- 2:35Speaker 1: Soto and the Door and Alonzo all awakening from their
- 2:39Speaker 1: August slumber or whatever that was. They're an interesting club
- 2:43Speaker 1: once again.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and the Mets. All the Dodgers, I should say,
- 2:47Speaker 3: have the Mets to thank for putting them in a
- 2:49Speaker 3: position right now, Ken in which the Dodgers could get
- 2:51Speaker 3: a buy just based on seating. How important do you
- 2:55Speaker 3: think that is to be able to get that buy
- 2:58Speaker 3: in the first round. I guess it depends on how
- 3:00Speaker 3: how well you're playing at the time. Do you want
- 3:01Speaker 3: the break or do you not?
- 3:04Speaker 1: Alana, every team would say they want the break.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Now.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We have seen examples in recent years, the Diamondbacks a
- 3:11Speaker 1: couple of years ago, even the Rangers a couple of
- 3:13Speaker 1: years ago of teams in the first round breaking out
- 3:17Speaker 1: and going all the way into the World Series. It's
- 3:20Speaker 1: just more difficult that way. And if you're the Dodgers,
- 3:23Speaker 1: for instance, do you want to expose yourself to a
- 3:26Speaker 1: best of three, even though it would be at your
- 3:28Speaker 1: stadium most likely where anything can happen. You can go
- 3:32Speaker 1: into a situation where you're facing a hot team and
- 3:36Speaker 1: then you have also two or three more games to
- 3:38Speaker 1: play and to use your pitching staff in those games.
- 3:43Speaker 1: They'd rather have the rest. All teams would rather have
- 3:45Speaker 1: the rest. Sometimes these teams come out flat after having
- 3:48Speaker 1: the rest. But if you're the Dodgers, you want one
- 3:51Speaker 1: to get the division, which now they have a two
- 3:53Speaker 1: game leader with San Diego, not exactly secure, but better
- 3:57Speaker 1: than they were, and you want also to get that
- 4:01Speaker 1: buy no question, they want that. The Phillies would want
- 4:03Speaker 1: it to if only to rest your banked up players.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Let me ask you this, Shoeo Tani obviously a key
- 4:11Speaker 3: component to that Dodgers, not only the starting rotation, but
- 4:13Speaker 3: of course to the offense. Breaking out the split ken
- 4:16Speaker 3: to right handed hitters looked really good yesterday. Nine K's
- 4:20Speaker 3: five innings what did you see?
- 4:23Speaker 1: I saw a really, really good pitcher and I watched
- 4:27Speaker 1: that game last night. He does things with the baseball
- 4:31Speaker 1: that not a lot of pitchers can do. And when
- 4:33Speaker 1: I talk like that, when I say that, what I
- 4:35Speaker 1: mean is he can manipulate the ball in ways that
- 4:37Speaker 1: a lot of.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Other guys can't.
- 4:39Speaker 1: That's sweeper or I don't know if it's a sweeper slider.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It was breaking horizontally like crazy the split, as you mentioned, Alana.
- 4:46Speaker 1: He broke that out to right handed hitters, which he
- 4:48Speaker 1: really had not done before. It's a pitch he still
- 4:50Speaker 1: has to command, but.
- 4:52Speaker 2: He has so many weapons.
- 4:53Speaker 1: He is so good, and if he is going to
- 4:56Speaker 1: be the guy we saw last night in the postseason,
- 5:00Speaker 1: which is of course his goal, then you're looking at Otani,
- 5:03Speaker 1: Snell Yamamoto.
- 5:05Speaker 2: That is pretty good. Put it that way.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Let me ask you this, and maybe what do you
- 5:12Speaker 3: think the way Kershaw has been pitching lately. We've had
- 5:14Speaker 3: this conversation a lot on Dodger's territory. I know it's
- 5:17Speaker 3: been talked about in other places as well. Do you
- 5:19Speaker 3: go Glass now Ken or do you go Kersh?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Well, we're talking about the fourth starter.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It all goes well, right, So it's not that.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Big a deal. You wouldn't even figure in the Division series.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I would go Kersh in the playoffs with Glass now
- 5:33Speaker 1: right behind them.
- 5:34Speaker 2: It's not a bad decision to have. It's a good one.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And I would want to see also how those two
- 5:39Speaker 1: guys are physically. Both of them have different physical variables
- 5:44Speaker 1: in play here Kershaw, his age, last now his various
- 5:47Speaker 1: ailments that always seem to crop up. So I would
- 5:50Speaker 1: want to see just exactly where they are. But if
- 5:53Speaker 1: they get there with Otani Yamamoto and going forward where
- 5:59Speaker 1: they are are now, of course yes, and then they're
- 6:02Speaker 1: going to be in a really good spot.
- 6:04Speaker 3: No question about that. Alex Vessia hitting the il one
- 6:07Speaker 3: of the Dodgers' relievers, Ken, is this more of a
- 6:09Speaker 3: situation in your opinion, that the kid just needs some rest,
- 6:12Speaker 3: especially with the return of Tanner, Scott and Kirby Yettes
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yates give him a blow a little bit. The Dodgers
- 6:17Speaker 3: are pretty good about that whole phantom I l and
- 6:20Speaker 3: the moving parts of giving guys rest when needed all.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I can't believe you would suggest the team would use
- 6:27Speaker 1: this phantom il, especially the Dodgers, But yes, they are
- 6:31Speaker 1: quite good at that, getting their guys breathers at different times.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Vessi has been used hard really all season, so yes,
- 6:38Speaker 1: it would behoove them to give him a little bit
- 6:41Speaker 1: of time off now.
- 6:41Speaker 2: And I'm sure he's got something.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Barking pictures always do it this time of year, so
- 6:45Speaker 1: you could justify it. We joke about the phantom I
- 6:48Speaker 1: l but yes, it's legit, I would think in this case.
- 6:51Speaker 3: All right, let me ask you this, the Milwaukee Brewers
- 6:53Speaker 3: signing Eric Fetti. Did that surprise you?
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yes, and the Brewer's entire season in a number of ways,
- 7:01Speaker 1: of course. But if you remember at the start of
- 7:04Speaker 1: the season, they basically had no pitching healthy. They had
- 7:08Speaker 1: to do some weird things to start the season, and
- 7:10Speaker 1: of course that crazy Yankee series happened, and then their
- 7:13Speaker 1: pitching got really healthy, and I was writing quite a
- 7:15Speaker 1: bit about their depth and how they can do some
- 7:17Speaker 1: things to the deadline, and they ultimately traded in Estra
- 7:20Speaker 1: Cortez Junior. Now they're in a situation where they're not
- 7:24Speaker 1: so healthy and it's not horrible. They lost McGill to
- 7:29Speaker 1: the IL yesterday with a flex restrain. He thinks it's
- 7:32Speaker 1: not serious.
- 7:33Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But they signed Fetti because they had to pitch Aaron
- 7:36Speaker 1: Ashby last night in place of Quinn Priester, who they
- 7:40Speaker 1: had pushed back.
- 7:41Speaker 2: A couple of days because he has a risk issue.
- 7:43Speaker 1: They wanted Fetti to back up Aaron Ashby, which he
- 7:46Speaker 1: did and did reasonably well. It was four to third
- 7:49Speaker 1: innings tour and runs not bad. So they're in kind
- 7:52Speaker 1: of an unusual state right now where they're a little
- 7:54Speaker 1: bit in flux with their pitching. They've got Trisney ready
- 7:58Speaker 1: to go. They've got Robert if you remember him. This
- 8:01Speaker 1: is a talented dude. He is on a rehab assignment.
- 8:03Speaker 1: He might be coming back. So they still have a
- 8:07Speaker 1: really good position, or they're still in a really good position.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Remember it's Freddie Peralta, it's the Miz, it's Brandon Woodruff.
- 8:14Speaker 1: They're okay, and they've got a number of other bodies
- 8:17Speaker 1: and a number of other relievers in the mix as well.
- 8:20Speaker 1: But it's interesting that they're in this kind of uncertain
- 8:25Speaker 1: spot right now at this moment with their pitching staff.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Now for all that's going on with them, and they
- 8:30Speaker 1: haven't played as well of late as well.
- 8:33Speaker 2: They are still.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Six games up for the best record in the National League,
- 8:38Speaker 1: six games ahead of the Dodgers, and they also are
- 8:43Speaker 1: six and a half games up on the Cubs, so
- 8:46Speaker 1: they're in a comfortable or reasonably comfortable position.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It's still late August.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Anything can happen, but I like where the Brewers are,
- 8:53Speaker 1: so they too, like the Dodgers, just have to get
- 8:56Speaker 1: to the finish line and get their healthy with their pitching,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and that is what they are trying to do.
- 9:02Speaker 3: What is the biggest area of concern when you think
- 9:04Speaker 3: about a flexsore strain with Tyler or McGill, I mean
- 9:07Speaker 3: fifteen day il for him. Nothing too serious, that's what
- 9:10Speaker 3: he says. Although when I think of flex sorece strain,
- 9:13Speaker 3: I worry about that.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I always worry about that.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And again, we'll just have to wait and see how
- 9:20Speaker 1: this goes. But before we go out of this first segment,
- 9:23Speaker 1: I want to show you something, Alana that is really cool.
- 9:26Speaker 1: If the season ended today, here is how the postseason
- 9:30Speaker 1: would look and there are some amazing matchup here. This
- 9:33Speaker 1: is if the season ended today. So again, you don't
- 9:36Speaker 1: know what's going to happen. The bye teams in the
- 9:37Speaker 1: National League, the Brewers and the Dodgers.
- 9:39Speaker 2: We've discussed that.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Mets at Phillies in the Wildcards, sorry, no city field.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Padres at Cubs, that would be an amazing series. And
- 9:47Speaker 1: for all the things the Cubs have gone through, I've
- 9:49Speaker 1: got a better record than Padres. They've got one of
- 9:51Speaker 1: the better records in the National League. It's right there
- 9:54Speaker 1: with the Dodgers as well. So that's the National League.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Now the American League.
- 9:58Speaker 2: This is quite interesting too.
- 10:00Speaker 1: The buy teams, the Blue Jays and the Tigers. They're
- 10:02Speaker 1: fairly comfortable. The blue Jays four game lead over the
- 10:05Speaker 1: Red Sox, four and a half over the Yankees. They
- 10:07Speaker 1: should get there. And in the wild card Mariners at
- 10:11Speaker 1: Astros in the AL West Championship and Yankees at Red
- 10:15Speaker 1: Sox in the AL East kind of consolation bracket.
- 10:18Speaker 2: So those would be really cool matchups.
- 10:20Speaker 1: The one thing, as cool as these things are, first
- 10:24Speaker 1: of all, they can change. Obviously, they can change. And
- 10:27Speaker 1: the other part that's bugging me a little bit about
- 10:29Speaker 1: this season, it's all kind of decided right now. We're
- 10:33Speaker 1: not even in September, and I'm not talking about the matchups.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I'm talking about we know who the twelve teams pretty
- 10:39Speaker 1: much are going to be the Reds, Yes, they're still
- 10:42Speaker 1: in it. The Royals, Yes they're still in it. Big
- 10:44Speaker 1: series this weekend against the Tigers, another one coming up
- 10:47Speaker 1: against the Mariners. But I just see the twelve teams
- 10:51Speaker 1: we just listed as the most likely playoff draw.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Ken In what universe would you have thought that the
- 10:59Speaker 3: Tigers and the Blue Jays would have been the teams
- 11:04Speaker 3: with the buye in the American League?
- 11:07Speaker 1: Would not have thought that in any universe, Alna, But
- 11:10Speaker 1: give both teams credit. Tigers have built, granted a big
- 11:13Speaker 1: league in the AL Central and the Blue Jays this
- 11:16Speaker 1: is a team that I have kind of doubted for
- 11:19Speaker 1: a while now, and I've doubted them because they have
- 11:21Speaker 1: not played to their talent level. They've not played to
- 11:24Speaker 1: their ability. And yet this season, I would say they've
- 11:28Speaker 1: exceeded their talent level. Now they've got some star players,
- 11:31Speaker 1: but it's the role players who have really defined their season.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I know Springers had to bounce back the year in
- 11:37Speaker 1: Vladim Baschett's being great, but it's guys like Barger and
- 11:42Speaker 1: all these other ones, Ernie Clement who have really defined them.
- 11:45Speaker 1: And good for the Blue Jays, they're right there.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel finally the offense and the defense has
- 11:51Speaker 3: surrounded the good pitching at some more complete team in
- 11:54Speaker 3: terms of the Toronto Blue Jays. Okay, much more to
- 11:56Speaker 3: comm on fair territory with Ken Rosenthal. Get those questions
- 12:00Speaker 3: in for Grill and Ken your opportunity to ask Ken
- 12:03Speaker 3: a question. We'll be back right after this, Kratz.

- 13:11Speaker 3: All right, time now for Grill and Ken. We're taking
- 13:14Speaker 3: questions from our followers, our viewers, our listeners on YouTube.
- 13:17Speaker 3: We appreciate the conversation. The first question Ken is involving
- 13:20Speaker 3: the Boston Red Sox and this is a conversation and
- 13:23Speaker 3: a question that a lot of people have had. Should
- 13:26Speaker 3: they call up Peyton Tolly, a young man that certainly
- 13:29Speaker 3: has comparisons to Garrett Crochet. Obviously Fitz is now on
- 13:34Speaker 3: the il. What should they do? Matthew Harnett wants to know.
- 13:38Speaker 1: They need a starter. I believe it's either tomorrow or Saturday,
- 13:42Speaker 1: and Kyle Harrison is one candidate. Peyton Toley is another. Now,
- 13:46Speaker 1: Peyton Tolly is kind of a two pitch guy, but
- 13:49Speaker 1: he's extremely talented. And from talking to Red Sox people,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you hear the David Price comparison from I believe two
- 13:56Speaker 1: thousand and eight, Remember when David Price came up and
- 13:58Speaker 1: was out of the bullpen in the playofs that was
- 14:01Speaker 1: quite a weapon. The Red Sox are in a little
- 14:04Speaker 1: bit of a funny place with their rotation. They're getting
- 14:07Speaker 1: great work out of Crochet. Of course, he's a saw
- 14:10Speaker 1: young candidate, as well as Brian Beao and Giolito fourth
- 14:14Speaker 1: and fifth spots a little bit walk So Peyton toly
- 14:17Speaker 1: is a guy that to me is really interesting. Kyle Harrison,
- 14:21Speaker 1: who came over in the Devonstrate, has had some success
- 14:24Speaker 1: in the major leagues. He's not been horrible, so he's
- 14:26Speaker 1: going to get a shot too. I expect we're going
- 14:29Speaker 1: to see both before the seasons over, and actually we'll
- 14:32Speaker 1: see one of them most likely in the next.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Couple of days.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Let me ask you this about Walker Buehler, Ken Rosenthaler,
- 14:38Speaker 3: you surprised that they made that move when they did
- 14:40Speaker 3: to put Buehller in the pen.
- 14:43Speaker 1: No, and it's all performance based at this time of year,
- 14:46Speaker 1: that's the beauty of it. No more messing around. It's
- 14:49Speaker 1: all who can get us there and who is the
- 14:51Speaker 1: best possible option for the postseason. And Walker Buehler he
- 14:56Speaker 1: just was not that guy for them. So what happened
- 14:59Speaker 1: with him taking him out? Of the rotation was not
- 15:01Speaker 1: a surprise to him or anyone else who's been watching
- 15:04Speaker 1: that team all year.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, no question about it. Next question involving the New
- 15:08Speaker 3: York Mets shocker from our guy Scott Braun. What do
- 15:11Speaker 3: Kennon Laalana think about the Mets suddenly building a new
- 15:13Speaker 3: rotation at the end of the season with prospects who
- 15:17Speaker 3: many people didn't expect to see until twenty twenty six.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I love it, and it's just what we were talking
- 15:24Speaker 1: about with regard to the Red Sox. You're want to
- 15:26Speaker 1: put your best foot forward at this point of the season.
- 15:29Speaker 1: There's no more and let's give Frankie Montas a chance.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I'm just using as an example. I know he's hurt
- 15:34Speaker 1: right now, but we're not looking at that. We're looking
- 15:37Speaker 1: at who is going to be the best guy on
- 15:40Speaker 1: the mound that particular day. Nolan McClain has been an
- 15:43Speaker 1: absolute revelation, stunning what he has accomplished so far.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I encourage you to read.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Will Salmon's story in The Athletic Today about last night's game.
- 15:51Speaker 1: It's a great story and it describes how this guy
- 15:54Speaker 1: just flummixed the Phillies. All right, Jonah Tong, He's the
- 15:58Speaker 1: next one coming up. They've got wrote in reserve as well.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Go with these guys.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Why not if they are capable And certainly McLain is
- 16:08Speaker 1: there's a maturity about him for guy who wasn't even
- 16:10Speaker 1: really a full time pitcher until two years ago, that
- 16:14Speaker 1: is quite unusual. Yeah, the Mets are going to fire
- 16:17Speaker 1: these bullets, and rightly so why not?
- 16:20Speaker 3: This is a question that makes me laugh because it's
- 16:21Speaker 3: a question I have every single year. It's regarding the
- 16:24Speaker 3: Houston Astro videos two oh seven. How do the Astros
- 16:28Speaker 3: always end up on top of the division even with
- 16:30Speaker 3: the injuries that they have suffered this season, like Blanco
- 16:32Speaker 3: and Alvarez. They just got Alvarez back. Let's not forget that.
- 16:35Speaker 3: You know, Bregman's not there anymore, Tucker's not there anymore.
- 16:38Speaker 3: They've had a lot of injuries, yet there they are
- 16:40Speaker 3: right at the top.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 16:43Speaker 1: At one point, what was its seventeen players on the
- 16:46Speaker 1: injured list, including eight starting pitchers.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It is amazing what they've done and it.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Speaks to of course, their culture, their history, recent history,
- 16:55Speaker 1: their knowledge of what it takes to win. That's a
- 16:58Speaker 1: big part of this now is back he walked, I believe,
- 17:02Speaker 1: four times in his first seven played appearances in this
- 17:05Speaker 1: last series, and then last night hit a home run.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Now that hand is going to be perhaps problematic. We'll
- 17:11Speaker 1: see if he is fully capable of being ere Don Alvarez,
- 17:15Speaker 1: but even if not.
- 17:17Speaker 2: He's a presence.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So they're in reasonably good shape right now. I'd like
- 17:22Speaker 1: them a lot better if Josh Hater was healthy. We
- 17:24Speaker 1: didn't mention him, or the person asking the question didn't
- 17:26Speaker 1: want him. But they're formidable and it's going to be
- 17:31Speaker 1: a really interesting race down the stretch between them and
- 17:34Speaker 1: the Mariners. Because the Mariners, I've said this before, to me,
- 17:37Speaker 1: they're like the Blue Jays, talented, but show me prove it,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and they have not yet done that. They've not yet
- 17:45Speaker 1: gotten over the hump. I don't know that winning the
- 17:48Speaker 1: division would be what their fans would consider that to be,
- 17:51Speaker 1: though certainly would be a step forward.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Winning a playoff series or two certainly would be.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So the Ale West is going to be rather intriguing
- 17:58Speaker 1: down the stretch, especially with Aohino Suarez seemingly coming out
- 18:02Speaker 1: of it now.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 18:05Speaker 3: That was a huge sign, of course for the Mariners.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Hasn't quite been exactly what they needed yet, but perhaps
- 18:10Speaker 3: that tide is about to change. The next question is
- 18:12Speaker 3: in regards to I guess the Rockies and the Saint
- 18:15Speaker 3: Louis Cardinals, because we know that John Jose Look is
- 18:18Speaker 3: in his final year there as in Saint Louis. Any
- 18:21Speaker 3: chance that he goes to Colorado or is another front
- 18:25Speaker 3: office fit better for him.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I don't expect that he is going to jump into
- 18:32Speaker 1: another job where he'd be the head of baseball operations.
- 18:34Speaker 1: He's done this a long time, since two thousand and seven,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I believe. So we're talking about almost two decades in
- 18:40Speaker 1: that job, which.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Is a high stress job.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And whatever your opinion of John Isaiah like, I'm just
- 18:45Speaker 1: talking about.
- 18:46Speaker 2: The difficulty of the position.
- 18:48Speaker 1: So I would expect that if he does anything next
- 18:53Speaker 1: year besides being a consultant for the Cardinals, he would
- 18:57Speaker 1: accept a lesser role rather than a head of base
- 19:00Speaker 1: operations role. Now, could he be a club president overseeing everything?
- 19:05Speaker 1: I guess he's president based operations for the Cardinal. I
- 19:07Speaker 1: don't know if it's that much of a distinction, but
- 19:09Speaker 1: I would be surprised if he was the guy in
- 19:12Speaker 1: Colorado simply because it seems to me from talking to him,
- 19:16Speaker 1: from talking to others, he wants to take a step.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Back, And wouldn't it be interesting for him to go
- 19:22Speaker 3: to Colorado Ken just because that's a massive rebuild. I mean,
- 19:25Speaker 3: I could see maybe an organization perhaps that has a
- 19:29Speaker 3: little bit more they're a little bit closer to winning
- 19:31Speaker 3: than maybe Colorado. Maybe that would be more intriguing for
- 19:34Speaker 3: him if at all.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I would think you're right, Alta, that Colorado is
- 19:40Speaker 1: such a difficult puzzle to solve. That coming off what
- 19:44Speaker 1: he's coming off of a couple of really difficult years
- 19:47Speaker 1: with the Cardinals. I don't know did he wants to
- 19:48Speaker 1: jump into that. I'll use the word mess because it
- 19:52Speaker 1: is a mess. They need so much work done on
- 19:54Speaker 1: their infrastructure and everything else. It's going to take a
- 19:58Speaker 1: while for them to get where they want to be.
- 20:00Speaker 3: All right, time now for a little break. We're gonna
- 20:03Speaker 3: come back and talk about Dude and Dork of the Week.
- 20:06Speaker 4: OKAYKP, this is your first arena club experience. We're going
- 20:09Speaker 4: to open a slab pack together. So first off, we're
- 20:11Speaker 4: gonna buy one of those twenty five dollars slab packs
- 20:14Speaker 4: and we get to see what is in the pack.
- 20:16Speaker 4: There it is the Grail, which is the best card
- 20:19Speaker 4: in the pack and worth the most. There are some
- 20:22Speaker 4: other cards that we're chasing, and you can see the
- 20:24Speaker 4: entire lineup so that you know what you're in the
- 20:26Speaker 4: running for. There's the Yamamoto signed card. Now let's open
- 20:30Speaker 4: up our pack and see how we do. We have
- 20:34Speaker 4: ourselves a really cool graphic and then a show heyo
- 20:39Speaker 4: TWI fifty to fifty card from last year. What do
- 20:43Speaker 4: you want to do? Should we sell it right back
- 20:45Speaker 4: to them for sixteen or should we keep it?
- 20:48Speaker 1: You should give it to me, I'll kay.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Good answer, Fine, I will give it to you. Since
- 20:53Speaker 4: the Blue Jays didn't Ghetto Tani, you can get this
- 20:55Speaker 4: fifty to fifty card instead. Use the code foul ful
- 20:58Speaker 4: to get yourself twenty percent off your first slab pack
- 21:01Speaker 4: or card purchase. Yes, you get to keep that card
- 21:03Speaker 4: if you want it. They send it to you foul
- 21:05Speaker 4: at Arena club dot com slash foul.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Dude, dude, dude.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Okay, give us the props. Ken Rosenthal, who is your
- 21:19Speaker 3: dude of the week?
- 21:21Speaker 2: All right?
- 21:21Speaker 1: I was really tempted to give it to the A's
- 21:24Speaker 1: second best record in the Major since July twenty fourth,
- 21:26Speaker 1: just swept the Tigers. But we have not talked on
- 21:29Speaker 1: this show about Michael Harris the second and his remarkable
- 21:33Speaker 1: runaround with the Atlanta Braves. I want to show you
- 21:35Speaker 1: the stats kind of before and after, because they illustrate
- 21:39Speaker 1: just how far he has come. This was one of
- 21:40Speaker 1: the worst offensive players in baseball, if not the worst,
- 21:44Speaker 1: through July tenth. Two of five batting average five thirty
- 21:47Speaker 1: nine OPS. Since July tenth, when he raised his hands
- 21:51Speaker 1: over his head, he had them down around his chest
- 21:53Speaker 1: three forty three batting average one point zero zero one ops.
- 21:58Speaker 1: He is the dude of the last two months, actually
- 22:01Speaker 1: two and a half months at this point. So Michael Harris,
- 22:03Speaker 1: good for you. I always love it when players who
- 22:06Speaker 1: were down kind of turn it around, and he's certainly
- 22:09Speaker 1: done that in a big way.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Comeback player of the year quality, I don't know.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I don't know because that kind of relates to last
- 22:16Speaker 1: year more than in season comeback. But he's certainly done
- 22:20Speaker 1: a lot this season.
- 22:22Speaker 3: I'm happy for him. It's good to see those types
- 22:24Speaker 3: of guys, good, good dude playing well as well. All right,
- 22:27Speaker 3: minus Colson Montgomery because anybody that can hit four home
- 22:31Speaker 3: runs in a week is a big deal. But how
- 22:33Speaker 3: about a home run in four straight games? We often
- 22:35Speaker 3: hear about that from the superstars, and maybe a lot
- 22:38Speaker 3: of folks don't even know who Colson Montgomery is. But
- 22:40Speaker 3: he has fourteen home runs in forty three career games,
- 22:44Speaker 3: So good for him. I'm happy to see a young
- 22:47Speaker 3: man that is making the most of the time that
- 22:49Speaker 3: he's been given.
- 22:51Speaker 1: White Sox top prospect and a guy who had some
- 22:55Speaker 1: swing issues in the minor leagues and has really come on.
- 22:58Speaker 1: But as we go to dork of the Week, the
- 23:00Speaker 1: White Sox are going to get nominated or named in
- 23:02Speaker 1: another way.
- 23:04Speaker 3: All right, dork of the Week, here we go.
- 23:12Speaker 2: All right, a lot, I'll take it right out here.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you teased it, go for it.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna give it to the Chicago White Sox. And
- 23:19Speaker 1: here's why they didn't trade Luise Robert Jr.
- 23:22Speaker 2: At the deadline.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Now. I know his value is not what it once was,
- 23:25Speaker 1: but they were facing a situation either trade him or
- 23:28Speaker 1: you face the decision of picking up his twenty million
- 23:32Speaker 1: dollar option.
- 23:33Speaker 2: We're not gonna trade him.
- 23:34Speaker 1: We didn't like the offers. That's fine, I understand that,
- 23:36Speaker 1: But here they are now guess who might be done
- 23:39Speaker 1: for the season.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Luise Robert Junior.
- 23:41Speaker 1: What a shock he would finish the season because of
- 23:44Speaker 1: that strain left hamstring with one hundred and ten games played.
- 23:47Speaker 1: He's played more than one hundred and ten only once
- 23:49Speaker 1: in his career.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So what do you do now?
- 23:52Speaker 1: You probably pick up the option, That's what they're signaling,
- 23:55Speaker 1: because well, what else are you gonna do but paying
- 23:58Speaker 1: twenty million for a guy I know. I know he's
- 24:00Speaker 1: a really good defender, and I know he's a great
- 24:02Speaker 1: base runner. But it's a waste of money. I know
- 24:05Speaker 1: they've got financial flexibility. It doesn't matter.
- 24:08Speaker 2: This was not.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Handled well by the White Sox Dorks of the Week.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I feel like they've handled this whole Louise Robert Junior
- 24:14Speaker 3: situation wrong the entire time. It's just been a messy,
- 24:17Speaker 3: entire situation. Okay for me, my doork of the week
- 24:20Speaker 3: is Major League Baseball? What are we doing? Do we
- 24:22Speaker 3: hate our own sport? Why are we announcing the twenty
- 24:25Speaker 3: twenty six schedule in the middle of the day on Tuesday?
- 24:29Speaker 3: I just don't understand, Like, what is the point in
- 24:32Speaker 3: an afternoon on Tuesday afternoon. By the way, Taylor Swift
- 24:35Speaker 3: and Travis Kelce got engaged on the same day, at
- 24:38Speaker 3: least they noticed or posted it on the same day,
- 24:40Speaker 3: and it was National Dog Day. What are we doing
- 24:43Speaker 3: major League Baseball? Like, let's let's have a little bit
- 24:46Speaker 3: more of a decent timing of this. Do we need
- 24:49Speaker 3: to know where we're playing in twenty twenty six on
- 24:52Speaker 3: August twenty sixth, I ask you Ken Rosenthal a lot.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I would just ask you, what is a better day
- 24:59Speaker 1: for this? Now, they were already late with the schedule.
- 25:01Speaker 1: That might have factored into why it came out on
- 25:03Speaker 1: a Tuesday.
- 25:04Speaker 2: But when would we do this? I don't know of
- 25:06Speaker 2: a great time.
- 25:07Speaker 1: And by the way, they did get.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Blown out of the water by Taylor and Travis that I.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Mean, my goodness, Travis and Taylor taken over the spot.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I don't know, just not a Tuesday afternoon. I mean,
- 25:19Speaker 3: there's got to be a Friday night, Friday nights at Sunday,
- 25:23Speaker 3: and I don't know when people are actually paying attention.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I mean, how many games are being played on it? Anyway,
- 25:28Speaker 3: I digress. All right, we want to say goodbye to
- 25:31Speaker 3: all of the folks watching us on TV, thank you
- 25:34Speaker 3: for joining us. We will be right back with our
- 25:37Speaker 3: YouTube fan right after this. All right, for those of
- 25:41Speaker 3: you on YouTube still with us, Hello, welcome back, Alana Rizzo,
- 25:45Speaker 3: Ken Rosenthal here on Fair Territory. Let me ask you this, Ken,
- 25:48Speaker 3: the Kansas City Royals make the postseason if.
- 25:54Speaker 1: If they get really hot, and that's what it's going
- 25:56Speaker 1: to take. Now, They've got the Tigers this weekend at home.
- 26:00Speaker 1: They are playing better, and they're hitting better. They've been
- 26:03Speaker 1: an offensively challenged team really for most of the season.
- 26:07Speaker 1: So I would say, Alana, they've got a slug. They've
- 26:11Speaker 1: got to get great work out of their starters. I mean,
- 26:12Speaker 1: all of the things you would normally say. But this
- 26:16Speaker 1: is a team capable of doing that. I just don't
- 26:18Speaker 1: know if they're going to have enough and if any
- 26:22Speaker 1: of the team's currently in wild card position the Red Sox, Yankees,
- 26:25Speaker 1: Mariners will slip enough for the Royals to come up.
- 26:28Speaker 1: But I'm eager to see them this weekend against the
- 26:30Speaker 1: Tigers in Kansas City. I'm eager to see that series
- 26:33Speaker 1: they haven't against Seattle coming up in a couple of weeks,
- 26:36Speaker 1: I believe, and let's face it, Bobby Witt, Vinnie Pasquentino,
- 26:41Speaker 1: zal Perez, Yastremsky's there. Now, it's a better looking offense
- 26:45Speaker 1: then it's been, and I don't rule them out. It's
- 26:49Speaker 1: just kind of a long road. Their playoff odds this
- 26:52Speaker 1: morning are fourteen percent. That sounds about right to me.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Are you more excited to see this Ale Central matchup
- 26:57Speaker 3: or AJ Pierzynski, who's doing the game with you on Fox?
- 27:02Speaker 2: Well, that's an excellent question.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I saw Aj last week, so I'd be good not
- 27:05Speaker 1: seeing AJ this week. But no, I actually, in all
- 27:09Speaker 1: seriousness for all the shenanigans on foul Territory, I love
- 27:12Speaker 1: working games with AJ. We have a lot of fun,
- 27:15Speaker 1: and we'll be with Jason Bennetti this weekend, so I expect,
- 27:19Speaker 1: let's just put it this way, a lively broadcast with
- 27:22Speaker 1: those cats in the booth.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Jason Bennetti is great. I know that AJ is
- 27:25Speaker 3: already on his way there. If not already, he is
- 27:28Speaker 3: on his way soon. We're gonna go ahead and say
- 27:32Speaker 3: goodbye for now. Thank It's for everybody for watching and listening.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Fou Territory is next. The afore mentioned Aj Przinski Scott
- 27:39Speaker 3: Brown their live from the pro Rivals open with Eric Kraat.
- 27:42Speaker 3: The guys welcome John Smoltz to the show, who happens
- 27:45Speaker 3: to be the commissioner of this uh this tournament, and
- 27:48Speaker 3: Joe Carter by the way, Russell Ortiz as well a
- 27:51Speaker 3: lot of fun like Terror. Then we'll be back with
- 27:55Speaker 3: the fresh episode on Monday. Bye guys. Bet MGM is
