- 0:00Speaker 1: What the heck is going on here? Mom?
- 0:03Speaker 2: I waited for you for hours.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I met Keithan. It was unsettling.
- 0:07Speaker 3: And the whole time you were here defiling my clothes
- 0:09Speaker 3: with the cast of you for you, oh well, I
- 0:12Speaker 3: didn't think you were ever gonna wear this stuff again.
- 0:15Speaker 3: I mean, it doesn't even fit you anymore, excuse me.
- 0:21Speaker 3: And even if it did, then you're not cool enough
- 0:25Speaker 3: to pull it off.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Four Finger Discount. Dude, welcome to this very special bonus
- 0:46Speaker 1: episode of four Finger Discount. We're doing something different here.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We are reviewing the episode that's just add It is
- 0:51Speaker 1: the premiere episode of season thirty seven of The Simpsons.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It is drifting Ways to Thieve your Mother. I am dander.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'm going well down there a bit. I got through it, though.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You did pretty much fifty Ways to Thieve your Mother.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Yes, and there, it's something we should say upfront. Let's
- 1:08Speaker 4: address the elephant in the room.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm glad that.
- 1:11Speaker 4: I got a message from one Brendan Dawn last guy, saying, guy,
- 1:16Speaker 4: make sure you watch the correct episode of the Simpsons,
- 1:21Speaker 4: because like, hey, we're gonna do something different. We're gonna
- 1:23Speaker 4: look at season thirty one episode. I said Hey, I'll
- 1:25Speaker 4: do that.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I got onto.
- 1:28Speaker 4: A certain streaming service at rhymes with Risney Dust and
- 1:33Speaker 4: watched the episode. I thought, okay, great, I'm happy to
- 1:35Speaker 4: talk about. Yeah, the one that builders the Simpsons season
- 1:40Speaker 4: or Simpson series finale, starring Con O'Brien with a guests
- 1:43Speaker 4: of right, Tom Hayes, Wow, planning to talk about I
- 1:45Speaker 4: can't wait to talk about.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It with Danna.
- 1:46Speaker 4: We're not watching that. That's not the one, not one.
- 1:48Speaker 4: We're talking about. Disney Plus put up two season thirty seven.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Something's gone wrong because something's a little ass skew.
- 1:55Speaker 1: When I first watched the episode, it said season thirty eight,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and now it says season thirty seven two times, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: it was just baffling. So you click on one season
- 2:03Speaker 1: thirty seven and it's actually season thirty six. Yeah, and
- 2:07Speaker 1: I said, click on the season thirty seven has one episode.
- 2:09Speaker 1: That's the one we're doing. There we go.
- 2:12Speaker 4: So, yeah, thank you very much Dando for saving me
- 2:15Speaker 4: from embarrassment. Cheers to Dando. Jeers to Disney Plus. Hopefully
- 2:20Speaker 4: this isn't happening all over the world, Maybe just happening
- 2:22Speaker 4: in Australia. Maybe they'll rectify the problem. Hopefully asap was
- 2:26Speaker 4: so yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 1: But anyway, but anyway, we both watched thrifty Ways to
- 2:30Speaker 1: Thieve Your Mother. I got to admit this was a
- 2:34Speaker 1: good episode. A bad air. This was a good episode,
- 2:36Speaker 1: A genuinely good episode. Yeah.
- 2:38Speaker 4: And I mean, look, I've been sort of not consciously
- 2:42Speaker 4: avoiding new episodes of the Simpsons, but I mean, life
- 2:45Speaker 4: is busy, there's a.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Lot going on. I think, yeah, yeah, I'll get to
- 2:48Speaker 1: it when I get to it. Yeah, if I get
- 2:50Speaker 1: that's the model of life now, I'll get to it
- 2:51Speaker 1: when I get to it. Yeah.
- 2:52Speaker 4: My favorite four words of it's on the list. Yeah, okay,
- 2:57Speaker 4: well this is going to be.
- 2:59Speaker 1: If Dana said, so, I better do it. Gotta keep
- 3:02Speaker 1: that gravy train of rolling.
- 3:03Speaker 4: But also, this is gonna be Simpsons for the kids
- 3:07Speaker 4: or Simpsons for the modern audience.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And that's not move anything, but it was anything about
- 3:13Speaker 1: This felt not necessarily classic Simpsons, but it had it
- 3:16Speaker 1: had a good classic structure. I think classic Simpsons would
- 3:18Speaker 1: have had more humor or more so like Zingers a
- 3:21Speaker 1: little bit. Storyline wise, I thought it was a really
- 3:24Speaker 1: good emotional story, had good bones. Yeah, yeah, so no,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I was actually.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Pretty impressed to the point where it's like I could
- 3:31Speaker 4: probably tune in watch a few more new episodes.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah, they're going to be like this. Now. I'm going
- 3:35Speaker 1: to start off by saying, I think you know what
- 3:38Speaker 1: I like about this. I think the Simpsons have officially
- 3:40Speaker 1: I'm just saying officially. They're not saying officially officially retconn
- 3:43Speaker 1: of the timeline because there have been episodes in the
- 3:46Speaker 1: past that ninety shows, one that springs to mind, right,
- 3:48Speaker 1: which came out in like early two thousand, two thousand
- 3:50Speaker 1: and four and eight. I don't know whatever, it's early
- 3:52Speaker 1: two thousands and people were up in arms. How can
- 3:55Speaker 1: the Simpsons if march I haven't been at college in
- 3:57Speaker 1: the nineties, it doesn't make sense timeline wise, blah blah blah.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And Matt Salmon our dear Pale. Matt Salmon has said
- 4:02Speaker 1: the timeline's floating, don't worry about it. Watch this episode
- 4:05Speaker 1: in a capsule. And there have been other episodes since
- 4:08Speaker 1: that mom was in twenty twenty one called Do Pizza
- 4:11Speaker 1: Bot's Stream of Electric Guitars, which is about Homer being
- 4:14Speaker 1: like a fourteen year old in the early nineties, which
- 4:16Speaker 1: makes a little bit more sense timeline wise, but there
- 4:18Speaker 1: was a lot of criticism that on social media, people
- 4:21Speaker 1: with continuity and timelines, and Matt someone had to respond
- 4:24Speaker 1: to them basically saying that what did he say. We're
- 4:26Speaker 1: not saying this is the official continuity now and none
- 4:29Speaker 1: of that other stuff happened. We're just saying in this
- 4:31Speaker 1: one episode, this is a silly way to present the
- 4:33Speaker 1: character's life. It doesn't mean that the people's beloved episodes
- 4:36Speaker 1: from the past didn't happen. They all kind of happened
- 4:38Speaker 1: in their own imaginary world, you know, and people can
- 4:40Speaker 1: choose to love whichever version they love. I watched this
- 4:43Speaker 1: one right, and I feel like this is an official
- 4:45Speaker 1: retcon of The Simpsons Margin Homer grew up in the nineties,
- 4:49Speaker 1: because if you're watching this Rod, my children are watching
- 4:51Speaker 1: this episode, it makes sense their parents, who are now
- 4:55Speaker 1: margin Homer's age, we grew up in the nineties. So
- 4:58Speaker 1: for a kid watching this show, this is almost like
- 5:00Speaker 1: an official rebranding of this is your era of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: show now. That's what I was thinking. Yeah, which it's
- 5:06Speaker 1: and I'm all for it.
- 5:07Speaker 4: It's really interesting something about when you when you're talking
- 5:10Speaker 4: about it this way, because you know, certainly if you
- 5:13Speaker 4: have my generation, which is you know, I'm Generation X, right, Basically,
- 5:18Speaker 4: Homer is now me. Homer is now generation X. Essentially,
- 5:21Speaker 4: if Homer Marge grew up in the nineties, went to
- 5:23Speaker 4: high school or even elementary school or junior high in
- 5:27Speaker 4: the nineties, as it seems in this episode going through
- 5:29Speaker 4: the yearbooks and all that kind of stuff, it's like, well.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Okay, but generation X views the world in a certain way,
- 5:35Speaker 1: each generational view. So if they were in high school,
- 5:38Speaker 1: middle school, in the in the in the early mid nineties,
- 5:41Speaker 1: then they'll be my age because that's twenty five. I
- 5:45Speaker 1: say twenty five. I guess yeah, because fourteen millennials, Yeah,
- 5:49Speaker 1: they're me. But what they've done is they've made I
- 5:52Speaker 1: am now Margin because when I watched The Simpsons when
- 5:54Speaker 1: I was a kid right in the nineties, Margin Homer
- 5:56Speaker 1: where my parents age, and my parents grew up in
- 5:58Speaker 1: the seventies and made logisticals it's that they would score
- 6:01Speaker 1: in the seventies, right or boomers? But yeah, whatever, So
- 6:04Speaker 1: now when you watch it, I am now margin home,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I am now the parent my kids are watching it,
- 6:10Speaker 1: so my kids are now looking up going what makes
- 6:13Speaker 1: sense that Margin Homer were growing up the same time
- 6:15Speaker 1: that my mum and dad are. So this is like
- 6:17Speaker 1: the official rebranding of this is your era of the sentence? Yeah,
- 6:19Speaker 1: so are they going to What?
- 6:22Speaker 4: I guess what I was trying to say with that
- 6:23Speaker 4: is like, will Homer and Marge sort of be the
- 6:25Speaker 4: same as they always were because generations are different, they will.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Be personality wise, you mean, yeah, I think they will
- 6:32Speaker 1: still be similar, but they will just the timeline I
- 6:35Speaker 1: feel like now is, Yeah, the nineties is what the
- 6:38Speaker 1: seventies was when The Simpsons started.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Yea, because I get the filling that people who grew
- 6:41Speaker 4: up in the nineties are going to view the world differently,
- 6:43Speaker 4: view parenting differently, through view life differently.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Maybe they will be.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Than the home in Marge we had saying, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 4: seasons that were teens or something, you know, like not
- 6:52Speaker 4: that they were teens, but like seasons thirteen through nineteen
- 6:55Speaker 4: or whatever.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I don't think we saw enough in this episode to
- 6:58Speaker 1: really decide whether that it's going to be a yes
- 7:00Speaker 1: or a no. Yeah, So the it's true we might
- 7:03Speaker 1: be in the early days of this whole rebranding. Yeah, well,
- 7:06Speaker 1: just a Conrad who was going to come on the show.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I've been told of Jessica Conrad. She wrote this episode,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and she has said that she wanted to write the
- 7:12Speaker 1: story based on her own experience of wearing her mother's
- 7:15Speaker 1: clothes and feeling cool when they came back into fashion again.
- 7:18Speaker 1: She wanted to present the feeling of the late nineties
- 7:19Speaker 1: and early two thousands for current day children, and included
- 7:22Speaker 1: references to DayLA's brand and the television series Dawson's Creek.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Director Gabrielle de Francesco also encountered a similar experience while
- 7:29Speaker 1: making the episode because his mother in law was sending
- 7:31Speaker 1: his wife's old clothes for his children. A reference to
- 7:34Speaker 1: the seventh season episode some four foot two was apparently
- 7:36Speaker 1: in this episode, and then cut it out because it
- 7:38Speaker 1: would have been too on the notes. I did have
- 7:40Speaker 1: Summer of fourfoot to vibes to it, wearing different clothes
- 7:44Speaker 1: and whatnot. But I just think whether they will say
- 7:47Speaker 1: it's an official timeline because you're putting yourself in a
- 7:49Speaker 1: bit of a hole there or sort of in the
- 7:51Speaker 1: corner if you say this is now the new timeline,
- 7:53Speaker 1: because then you can't change it up a bit. But
- 7:54Speaker 1: I like to think that this is now. My kids
- 7:57Speaker 1: can watch the Simpsons, and it feels like The Simpsons
- 7:59Speaker 1: is now current and relevant again because your kids now
- 8:02Speaker 1: are living in the timeline of what my kids live in.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I think if you're a consent, yeah, no, it does.
- 8:07Speaker 1: It does. I think if you're a consumer of pop culture,
- 8:10Speaker 1: you really have to be a bit flexible. You have
- 8:12Speaker 1: to sort of meet the creators, particularly stuff that's long running.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You know, it goes back to like Star Wars and
- 8:18Speaker 1: Marvel Comic Sawks anything like that. You know, realize that
- 8:22Speaker 1: you have to have a bit of flexibility when it
- 8:24Speaker 1: comes to timelines and things like that if you wanted
- 8:25Speaker 1: to sort of remain relevant. I mean, I think the
- 8:29Speaker 1: fundamentals have to apply. But that's in terms of storytelling
- 8:31Speaker 1: more than they say, and in terms of characterization. But yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's like people who get all sort of bunched up
- 8:39Speaker 1: about say James Bond, like well, you know that they're all, well,
- 8:43Speaker 1: James Bond is just a code name, and all these
- 8:47Speaker 1: people are James Bond.
- 8:48Speaker 4: It's like they're just different movies man, you know. And Rogers,
- 8:51Speaker 4: a different actor playing Roger Moore got too old to
- 8:53Speaker 4: play James Bond, so they got a new James Bond
- 8:55Speaker 4: in you know, it's it's not all part of one
- 8:57Speaker 4: big story.
- 8:57Speaker 1: It's more like one character. Yeah. Overall that I just
- 9:00Speaker 1: watched this going I feel like I'm watching a yeah
- 9:03Speaker 1: era of the show. Oh yeah, very much. I look
- 9:05Speaker 1: because this this feels like it wasn't a one off
- 9:08Speaker 1: kind of episode. This feels like this is meant to
- 9:09Speaker 1: be in the cannon and show you.
- 9:12Speaker 4: I say this with all do you respect to Jessica Conrad? Yes,
- 9:17Speaker 4: ye future, I guess the show. She may not want
- 9:20Speaker 4: to be on it with me after the gags could
- 9:22Speaker 4: have been a little tighter.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I thought there were some actually having said that, no, sorry,
- 9:28Speaker 1: Jessica taking it all.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Back, I'm going to like a lot. I've got a
- 9:32Speaker 4: lot of a pink pretty good gag. That's that line
- 9:37Speaker 4: is pretty cool. Yeah, so okay, props to you. Maybe
- 9:40Speaker 4: overall it's kind of like, oh look, this wasn't laugh
- 9:42Speaker 4: a minute, But I was like, I didn't walk away gone,
- 9:46Speaker 4: you guys hang it up, even in terms of because
- 9:50Speaker 4: I think one thing I was really worried about was
- 9:53Speaker 4: voice acting. Yeah, because you know we've sort of talked
- 9:56Speaker 4: about again, Julie Cavn, who we love and respect, is
- 9:59Speaker 4: like this bit of wear and tear on those vocal
- 10:01Speaker 4: cords might be time to, you know, look into other alternatives.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I don't know if they did some tweaking in this
- 10:06Speaker 4: episode or whatever. You can certainly hear is like, this
- 10:09Speaker 4: doesn't sound exactly like the Marge of old but nor
- 10:12Speaker 4: does it sound.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Like didn't sound she was unwell? Yeah, because there was
- 10:16Speaker 1: a while where it felt like Marge had a cold.
- 10:18Speaker 1: That's what it sounded like. I'm gonna say this though.
- 10:20Speaker 1: It was so bizarre, and this is just an example
- 10:24Speaker 1: of modern day voice over work. Right, they obviously recorded
- 10:29Speaker 1: from their own house. Now they don't do it in
- 10:30Speaker 1: the studios. Julie obviously recorded her lines in a home
- 10:34Speaker 1: studio that wasn't probably soundproofed because I watched this episode
- 10:38Speaker 1: with headphones, right, and Homer's dialogue was good, Lisa's dialogue
- 10:42Speaker 1: was fine, but whenever Marge spoke had a bit of
- 10:45Speaker 1: an echo, probably through TVs. You can't pick it up
- 10:49Speaker 1: through my soundproof noise canceling headphones. I was like, what
- 10:53Speaker 1: is going why is this sound echo? We and I
- 10:54Speaker 1: realized it was only when Margor was speaking, So Julie
- 10:57Speaker 1: obviously was recording in a studio. That wasn't probably soundproofed.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I was like, that's just twenty twenty five, that wasn't it,
- 11:02Speaker 1: And when Dano is a very purest when it comes
- 11:04Speaker 1: to sound, So yeah, but I just I just don't know.
- 11:07Speaker 1: It was often because you know, at least we'll talk fine,
- 11:09Speaker 1: then much had the necho. At least we'll talk fine.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Then much had necho. I was like, I couldn't work
- 11:13Speaker 1: out what was going on. And then yeah, obviously I
- 11:15Speaker 1: was like, oh, Julie didn't record this in a properly
- 11:17Speaker 1: sound Britife studio. But otherwise now, I mean, the voice
- 11:20Speaker 1: wise was fine. Yeah, yeah, you could certainly tell. I
- 11:23Speaker 1: thought Dan's voice was a little off from home. It
- 11:25Speaker 1: feels like his voice has changed from I noticed more
- 11:30Speaker 1: in the episode that I mistakenly watched, Yeah, the one
- 11:34Speaker 1: with O'Brien. I feel like, I mean, I'm probably wrong here,
- 11:38Speaker 1: but personally I'm watching this as someone who's watched a
- 11:40Speaker 1: lot of the newer episodes. It feels like they improved
- 11:43Speaker 1: this season. I'm not sure what's happened. Yeah, maybe some
- 11:46Speaker 1: some slight tweaking going on, maybe tweak er trigger. I
- 11:49Speaker 1: don't think it's fine, likely wrote me all that much
- 11:52Speaker 1: doesn't bother me. You know. I understand why it might
- 11:55Speaker 1: bother the voice actors, but I don't think it should. Hopefully,
- 11:57Speaker 1: hopefully the voice I can't really have.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Well, I hope the guys who brought us so much
- 12:02Speaker 4: joy bringing voices to the character of The Simpsons are still,
- 12:04Speaker 4: you know, getting the check every week.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I also think a reason why I feel like this
- 12:08Speaker 1: episode really resonated with me and I seem to seem
- 12:10Speaker 1: to appeal to me in a great sense was The
- 12:13Speaker 1: Simpsons is now being written by people who are my age.
- 12:16Speaker 1: When I was a kid, the Simpsons was written by
- 12:18Speaker 1: grown ups. I'm now a grown up, and Jessica Conrad
- 12:22Speaker 1: is someone similar to my age. She's written an episode
- 12:24Speaker 1: based on a personal experience of hers, which is in
- 12:26Speaker 1: a personal experience of mine, you know. And I think
- 12:29Speaker 1: that's why the main story of Lisa and Marge not
- 12:33Speaker 1: only connecting through this old TV show pulling out the
- 12:35Speaker 1: DVD's and saying, you know, this show's not on streaming,
- 12:38Speaker 1: but I've got this thing called physical media. You put
- 12:40Speaker 1: it in, and I've experienced that recently where we're on Netflix.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Shrek's been taken off and couldn't find on anything, and
- 12:44Speaker 1: I was like, but it's right there. We've got all
- 12:47Speaker 1: four shreks. Why why are we looking for Why are
- 12:50Speaker 1: we googling with streamings of us? We owned the movie,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and the kids like what do you mean? And now
- 12:54Speaker 1: Wholly in particular, she loves going to the shelf and
- 12:56Speaker 1: picking out a movie, picking it, looking at the cover,
- 12:58Speaker 1: looking at the pictures, putting it back. And I'm not
- 13:00Speaker 1: that one looking at the cover. Yeah, that's the one
- 13:02Speaker 1: taking it out, putting in the experience of picking a
- 13:04Speaker 1: movie and holding it.
- 13:06Speaker 4: This is unrelated. Feel free to cut this out if
- 13:08Speaker 4: you like, but I want to give a shout out.
- 13:10Speaker 4: We recently spoke with Alan Siegel from The Ringer. The
- 13:14Speaker 4: Ringer does a great array of podcast and one of
- 13:15Speaker 4: my favorites called The Big Picture, And recently they did
- 13:18Speaker 4: an episode called The High Council of Physical Media Collectors
- 13:21Speaker 4: where they had two of the regular guys, but also
- 13:24Speaker 4: two guests. One's an actor named Timothy Simon's who's on
- 13:28Speaker 4: a show called Nobody Wants This He's on Someone Deep,
- 13:30Speaker 4: and one is an actor playwright called Tracy Letts. They're
- 13:34Speaker 4: both they're all huge, sort of big collectors of blue
- 13:36Speaker 4: rays from all around the world and all this, and
- 13:38Speaker 4: they're basically just boys with their toys, bringing in like
- 13:41Speaker 4: I got this from I'm boarded this from the UK.
- 13:43Speaker 1: It took six months to ride, but check it out.
- 13:45Speaker 1: They're so happy with it.
- 13:46Speaker 4: And one of the guys was basically a new collector
- 13:49Speaker 4: and didn't have as much of the other guys.
- 13:50Speaker 1: One guy had something like eleven thousand blue rays. Made
- 13:53Speaker 1: Guy Davis looked like a fucking amateur. I can one year,
- 13:56Speaker 1: They've got one thy twenty eight. I haven't counted one yet.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I put them on. I put him with apaetical waterer
- 14:01Speaker 1: Nicolas Like, but what happens when like that one on
- 14:03Speaker 1: that shelf you need? You need to move them all down.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I'm like, don't even bring it up. Just I've got
- 14:09Speaker 1: him your order now.
- 14:12Speaker 4: But one of the guys it was was a new
- 14:14Speaker 4: collector and the guy who had a lot, it's like, yeah,
- 14:17Speaker 4: occasionally I'll have doubles of stuff or I'll buy a
- 14:19Speaker 4: new version. And he was like, do you own this
- 14:22Speaker 4: on four K And he goes, I don't. He's like,
- 14:23Speaker 4: you do now, and basically just gave him all his doubles.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I swear to god, I always had to pull over
- 14:28Speaker 4: the car and like, that's great, man, it was so nice.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So yeah, physical media, We're all for it. But when
- 14:37Speaker 1: she pulled out, pulled out the obviously Dawson's creep parody
- 14:40Speaker 1: was Kegan's Pond, and just I think that that appeared also,
- 14:44Speaker 1: that was a big show when I was sort of
- 14:46Speaker 1: like in my formative years as well, and I think
- 14:48Speaker 1: it was a great choice with Jessica Conrad to have
- 14:50Speaker 1: that song, which wasn't exactly I don't want to Wait
- 14:53Speaker 1: by Paula Cars, but it was very similar, wasn't it.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Oh very much? So yeah, and just watching them just
- 14:57Speaker 1: bonding over this TV show from when they were when
- 15:00Speaker 1: Marge was younger. And then she gets the clothes because
- 15:02Speaker 1: this is what happens. Nichola's got some clothes fro when
- 15:04Speaker 1: she was younger. Holly is now obviously doesn't quite fitt yet,
- 15:06Speaker 1: but it's like she's trying it on and she just
- 15:07Speaker 1: wanted to look like marm And it's like, I've experienced
- 15:10Speaker 1: what Marge and Lisa are going through here, you know, Well,
- 15:12Speaker 1: did you ever go through old Man's closet? All? Ah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I did it with a few of mine through my
- 15:18Speaker 1: dad's stuff. Yeah, I never did, but Elliott's gone through.
- 15:21Speaker 1: And that's why I think A big part of it
- 15:24Speaker 1: is a moment this episode where Marge talking about like
- 15:26Speaker 1: she's remembering when she wore this shirt and that shirt.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I think she mentioned something, I had so many great
- 15:30Speaker 1: memories in this shirt, and now I've got one more
- 15:32Speaker 1: thanks to you. It's such a lot about the Paul
- 15:34Speaker 1: Frank Donky shirt. I think that's why I personally struggle
- 15:38Speaker 1: sometimes to get rid of shirts, because with clothes comes memories.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Oh sure, I've got one that you remember morning years
- 15:44Speaker 1: probably doesn't fit me all that well. I wore on
- 15:46Speaker 1: my first date with Nikola. It's like I don't want
- 15:47Speaker 1: to get rid of that. Oh yeah, and I remember
- 15:49Speaker 1: when I went out and had a great night wearing
- 15:51Speaker 1: this shirt, and it might not fit me as much anymore,
- 15:53Speaker 1: but it's like I can't part with it. Oh yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 1: There's this fear with me that if I get rid
- 15:58Speaker 1: of the shirt then me he will fade awake. So
- 16:00Speaker 1: I wait, now you get to remind me that's.
- 16:02Speaker 4: The whole Condo spark joy thing, right, Yeah, I mean
- 16:05Speaker 4: I've got a shirt that I've happened nearly thirty years
- 16:07Speaker 4: or so.
- 16:09Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm I'm not going to throw it out.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I'll never throw it out. I mean it'll be like
- 16:12Speaker 1: bloody Heath Ledger at the end of break Back, Matt
- 16:13Speaker 1: and with his shirt hanging up in my closet, all
- 16:15Speaker 1: the memories. But yeah, the memory of it is, you know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: it reminds me of well, I think I first started
- 16:23Speaker 1: earning a bit of money. It's like, you know, it's
- 16:25Speaker 1: not like a buddy a money shirt or anything like that,
- 16:28Speaker 1: but it's a decent shirt and it's like, that's right,
- 16:30Speaker 1: pay for this with money that I earned, good for me.
- 16:33Speaker 4: And it was just reminds me of a really happy
- 16:35Speaker 4: time in my life. So yeah, that's not going anywhere.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Not you'll bury me in it. But it might be
- 16:39Speaker 4: like I don't want to be terribly more. I don't
- 16:41Speaker 4: want to be like a pharaoh either. It's like all
- 16:43Speaker 4: my stuff is coming with me. But if we got
- 16:44Speaker 4: certain things that you would want it like maybe taking
- 16:47Speaker 4: your coffin, because I remember when we buried thought about
- 16:49Speaker 4: that and we buried my dad. Yeah, we sort of
- 16:52Speaker 4: threw in like a racing guide and all this kind
- 16:54Speaker 4: of stuff related. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure he was, but
- 16:59Speaker 4: you know, I don't if we threw them actually into
- 17:00Speaker 4: the on the top of the coffee, take it, take
- 17:03Speaker 4: a junk with it.
- 17:05Speaker 1: It was like, that's a nice thing to sort of have,
- 17:07Speaker 1: you know, just on your on your journey to the
- 17:08Speaker 1: other side. Yes, I got certain things, maybe my et
- 17:11Speaker 1: soundtrack vinyl that my mum bought for me, and it's
- 17:15Speaker 1: it's great because mump, because Mum bought it for me.
- 17:18Speaker 1: But also it was the first time it was like
- 17:20Speaker 1: it had score from unreleased deleted scenes and I've never
- 17:23Speaker 1: heard before. And I remember put it on and being
- 17:25Speaker 1: so excited when I heard that. I was like, I've
- 17:28Speaker 1: never heard this. I've listened to the soundtrack a million
- 17:29Speaker 1: I've never heard this. One track though makes me sound
- 17:32Speaker 1: like a super nerve, but I was like, I've never
- 17:34Speaker 1: heard this, ben it was so exciting and that I
- 17:36Speaker 1: just yeah, I love that, And just the fact that
- 17:37Speaker 1: Mum bought it for me. Plus there's a Space Jam
- 17:39Speaker 1: cup behind me space I got that when Mum took
- 17:43Speaker 1: me to the movies to see Space Jam. It's the
- 17:45Speaker 1: only time Mum and I went to the movie is
- 17:46Speaker 1: just us together, and it's just a great memory. Whenever
- 17:49Speaker 1: I said that, come, I'm like, I remember, forget the morning,
- 17:51Speaker 1: my mum's like doing together movies. I was like yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 1: and I was like, what about Stacey. She's at SO
- 17:54Speaker 1: and so fans out not just asked, and I was like,
- 17:56Speaker 1: oh cool, And it's just memory of just going to
- 17:59Speaker 1: the movies with just yeah. Yeah, very nice. Yes. But
- 18:02Speaker 1: also the Homer story in this very not a huge
- 18:07Speaker 1: role at all, really, but I thought Homer was the
- 18:10Speaker 1: people do get addicted to these clinches. It's very John Wick,
- 18:13Speaker 1: isn't it. Oh yeah, well it's primarily Reacher Reacher, yes,
- 18:16Speaker 1: of course. Yeah. I liked the end where the cops
- 18:20Speaker 1: and Martin's dad are watching it all. But men do
- 18:24Speaker 1: get addicted to violent films. I just love it. Oh yeah,
- 18:26Speaker 1: very much. I mean, well, Reacher is on Amazon Prime,
- 18:29Speaker 1: and Amazon Prime does a whole bunch of those going
- 18:31Speaker 1: to yah.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I mean like the Bosch series and it's very spinoffs,
- 18:35Speaker 4: The Terminal List with Chris Pratt and now they did
- 18:38Speaker 4: a spinoff that.
- 18:39Speaker 1: One with English dude Jason Sathan. What's it called The Trance.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Oh that's a series of movies. Yeah, yeah, The Transporter yea, yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 1: just gone around killing people. Oh yeah, but I've certainly
- 18:51Speaker 1: I've watch a bit of Clincher. I watched the first
- 18:52Speaker 1: season of Reacher. It's good, It's all right. Yeah. I
- 18:56Speaker 1: also liked the score on this. I don't know whether
- 18:58Speaker 1: it's just me being crazy, but I thought the score
- 19:00Speaker 1: was straight out of the classic era. There was a
- 19:02Speaker 1: transition between I want to say the Convention Center and
- 19:05Speaker 1: maybe the school or something. But I was like, this
- 19:07Speaker 1: is straight out of season eight. Like it just felt
- 19:09Speaker 1: like this though, it felt about going back paying tribute
- 19:12Speaker 1: to the golden Classic era with things like the score
- 19:14Speaker 1: and whatnot.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Funny you should mention this. Yeah, what do I always
- 19:17Speaker 4: say about Wikipedia? Sometimes it can't be trusted. I Hopeilly,
- 19:19Speaker 4: you'd be trusted in this time. This episode was dedicated
- 19:21Speaker 4: in memory of a longtime series composer, Alf Clawson. Maybe
- 19:25Speaker 4: that's why who died on May twenty nine. Did I
- 19:28Speaker 4: say your memory of it at the end of the credits?
- 19:30Speaker 1: Not that I recall, but Wikipedia is saying it. So
- 19:33Speaker 1: this is the one time we can trust it. This

- 20:03Speaker 1: and whatnot, what do you think of the whole Fashion Club?
- 20:05Speaker 1: So that the whole themous episode is that Lisa was
- 20:08Speaker 1: being it's thrifting right, and how thrifting is now not
- 20:11Speaker 1: for poor people? Nothing is a great line. Yeah, but
- 20:15Speaker 1: Lisa is brought in. She wearing Marge's clothes fellows haven't
- 20:19Speaker 1: wtched yet, wearing Marg's retro clothes from when she was younger,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and she's now brought into the fashion club or these
- 20:24Speaker 1: Devon and Vidalia I think her name is these two
- 20:27Speaker 1: fashion says yes exactly, and then they teach her the
- 20:31Speaker 1: ways of thrifting and how it costs more money. And
- 20:33Speaker 1: then they get the idea of, oh, if Lisa's mum
- 20:35Speaker 1: has clothes in her attic, maybe others do as well.
- 20:38Speaker 1: They use Lisa as a way to go heist other
- 20:41Speaker 1: people's clothes and they're going to make money from it.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I must admit I've written to him like, do you
- 20:47Speaker 1: really need to steal them?
- 20:48Speaker 4: You'd probably just ask for them. You can probably we're
- 20:51Speaker 4: doing a clothes drive or something like that. You know,
- 20:54Speaker 4: you can maybe tell a little white lie or you
- 20:55Speaker 4: just say do you have any yep.
- 20:58Speaker 1: But do you think if they so these girls from
- 21:00Speaker 1: the door and said Marge, can you give us your
- 21:01Speaker 1: old clothes? I don't think she would have because close
- 21:03Speaker 1: for a reason. That is correct. But I think if
- 21:05Speaker 1: you did ask on the answer would be no, they're
- 21:07Speaker 1: kept in a box for a reason. They didn'tant them.
- 21:08Speaker 1: That would have got rid of the Yeah, I.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Do like the Devon and Vidalia worked a bit of
- 21:13Speaker 4: jiu jitsu, a bit of moral jiu jitsu on Lisa.
- 21:15Speaker 1: We kind of like justifying, yeah, like we're keeping out
- 21:18Speaker 1: the big clauses of keeping keeping out the.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Clause of big fashion, and also you know, we're striking
- 21:21Speaker 4: back against fast fashion, so we're recycling clothes.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yeah. It's like, oh, yeah, you could hit Lisa right
- 21:26Speaker 1: in the right in the spot that is most sensitive,
- 21:28Speaker 1: so yeah, good for you. But it was just a
- 21:30Speaker 1: nice margin Homer margin Lisa bonding story. Really it went
- 21:34Speaker 1: bonding over the TV. I like the thestari kind of
- 21:36Speaker 1: aspect as well. We haven't touched on that, just taking
- 21:38Speaker 1: the mickey out of people who are are living now
- 21:39Speaker 1: by just going to remember me. Oh yeahs you know,
- 21:42Speaker 1: and it's just yeah, you look at some people are
- 21:45Speaker 1: still big stars and they do it just for the
- 21:46Speaker 1: extra bunk buck. Can you look at some people and
- 21:48Speaker 1: you're like, ah, I feel sorry for you, but hey,
- 21:50Speaker 1: look you're making money.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Oh yeah, look I'm always rounded. The scene in the
- 21:53Speaker 4: movie The Wrestler, that one with Mickey Rourkey, Yeah, well yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 4: it's it's really sad where they're just in this really
- 21:58Speaker 4: you know, sort of spear threadbare hall and they've got
- 22:01Speaker 4: the little table set up and you know.
- 22:04Speaker 1: One wrestlers. Yeah, I've got the colostomy bag and all
- 22:05Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. I was like, oh, sure they
- 22:07Speaker 1: must be terrible. Then you hear about you know, I
- 22:08Speaker 1: think we talked about a certain Australian god of thunder
- 22:13Speaker 1: who you know half a million Yeah, got a very.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Nice chunk of change for you know, rocking up to
- 22:18Speaker 4: a rocking up to a con. That's the way things
- 22:20Speaker 4: go these days, it is.
- 22:22Speaker 1: No I thought that was all good. I did write
- 22:24Speaker 1: down it looked kind of weird to see Marge and
- 22:27Speaker 1: Lisa at odds the way they were in the second
- 22:29Speaker 1: half of the episode. I thought Lisa's was really cruel
- 22:32Speaker 1: out of nowhere. It's at of come out of notice, like, yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: you hadn't really played up that she was wanting to
- 22:36Speaker 1: be with these girls. There was almost case of they
- 22:38Speaker 1: brought her in and she was like, oh, and then
- 22:39Speaker 1: all of a sudden, Margine's she was trying to be
- 22:42Speaker 1: cool by taking the mickey out of March. Yeah, it
- 22:44Speaker 1: was very much a Lisa kind of story.
- 22:45Speaker 4: She gets she gets a little touch of acceptance and
- 22:48Speaker 4: a little touch of being in with the in crowd.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I didn't they didn't quite play that up enough, and
- 22:53Speaker 1: I think where she's like, oh my god, this is great.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I want to keep this going.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Not yeah, I mean that that abrupt sort of heel
- 22:59Speaker 4: turn that you make when she's in the bedroom and
- 23:01Speaker 4: saying you wouldn't fit into it anyway.
- 23:02Speaker 1: We I mean, first of all, she probably wouldn't fit into.
- 23:04Speaker 4: That's I think that's legit. But then you know, but
- 23:06Speaker 4: also you're not too cool enough there. It's that felt
- 23:10Speaker 4: it that felt like it came out of nowhere. You're right,
- 23:12Speaker 4: but yeah, it just felt odd, you know, when Marge
- 23:15Speaker 4: leaves that message about this is your not cool mom
- 23:17Speaker 4: or something that's.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Like, oh, it feels odd to have these two, you know,
- 23:20Speaker 1: sort of at each other's throats in that way. My favorite,
- 23:25Speaker 1: we'll be favorite moments in the episode.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to take back some of the things
- 23:28Speaker 4: I said about Jesse a Conrad script because I just write.
- 23:32Speaker 4: But that clincher line about I went home. How many
- 23:37Speaker 4: times have you done this? I know I've done it
- 23:38Speaker 4: so many times. So he's holding a gun on the
- 23:41Speaker 4: guy and.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Then he says this line, and then this happens, and
- 23:43Speaker 1: then that happens, and it's like you're automatically think you're
- 23:46Speaker 1: cool by bus and you're the one saying motherfucker and
- 23:49Speaker 1: said of Bruce Willis, but that whole he said, peace
- 23:53Speaker 1: be with you to the priest, except with peace like
- 23:55Speaker 1: a gun, and then he shinem with a gun back
- 23:59Speaker 1: when you get home money, never grow up home. But
- 24:02Speaker 1: that's fair. But that piece we with you line was
- 24:04Speaker 1: pretty cool. So three stores after poor people anymore, Yes,
- 24:07Speaker 1: we had nothing is.
- 24:09Speaker 4: Props to Julie Cabinet for the delivery of this line
- 24:12Speaker 4: after she's been at nostalgic on and comes back.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I know the one he gonna say, I met Kegan.
- 24:16Speaker 1: It was unsettled. Was that very good? Very good?
- 24:21Speaker 4: Probably my favorite moment in the episode. And I know
- 24:24Speaker 4: that this was all more sort of hitting you in
- 24:26Speaker 4: your nostalgia sweet spot. But the moment, the song, the
- 24:30Speaker 4: bomb dropped by the bucketheads, the food into mam hot damn,
- 24:39Speaker 4: it felt very of the year. But we used to
- 24:42Speaker 4: make things in this country because maybe it was as
- 24:48Speaker 4: we record this. Sorry, yeah, Life of the Show Girl
- 24:50Speaker 4: is just dropped by Taylor Swift. The Lovely Louis's daughter
- 24:53Speaker 4: Audrey was listening to it on rotation when I went
- 24:56Speaker 4: over the other night.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I said, is it any good? People?
- 24:59Speaker 4: People are not liking this? There's some stuff that's good.
- 25:01Speaker 4: I said, what about that song about about Travis Kelsey?
- 25:05Speaker 1: That was weird? So she bought the the iTunes or
- 25:08Speaker 1: the Apple I think the iTunes, Twitter account or something
- 25:11Speaker 1: that's right, And it was all Life of a Show
- 25:13Speaker 1: because having tweeters is twenty nineteen. Yeah, but sorry, just
- 25:19Speaker 1: throwing tail the swift under the bus. But yeah, they
- 25:21Speaker 1: played the bomb. The bomb's great. Yeah, so that's all
- 25:24Speaker 1: the stuff I liked. I really liked the reveal at
- 25:26Speaker 1: the end that Martin's dad was glad doing the voiceover
- 25:30Speaker 1: neighbors have money, they got the kids under the stone
- 25:32Speaker 1: or whatever. He was terrified. But the thing is, though,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I'm glad I wash this the first time without subtitles,
- 25:38Speaker 1: because the subtitles say Martin's dad or whatever in the subsect,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh, that rules the gag because you
- 25:44Speaker 1: think it's like evil AI sort of security or something,
- 25:47Speaker 1: or leave the promises. Now it sounds like, yeah, you
- 25:50Speaker 1: have five seconds to comply, and Kenny just gets this ship,
- 25:54Speaker 1: doesn't get perc When I gave you the five seconds,
- 25:58Speaker 1: Why didn't you get out of the way if something
- 26:00Speaker 1: said you have five seconds to complain? I'm leaving. I
- 26:02Speaker 1: listened to a great podcast they are they talking about
- 26:04Speaker 1: RoboCop and they were like, why did you give ed
- 26:07Speaker 1: to a night a loaded gun? It was a demonstration.
- 26:11Speaker 4: But also these guys fare saying, oh, yeah, Kenny really
- 26:14Speaker 4: volunteered that. No, he did so very reluctant.
- 26:16Speaker 1: That does set the tone for the movie, though, Oh, yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 1: good movie. We did a did we do a thing
- 26:21Speaker 1: on that? Did we didn't know? Did we do a
- 26:23Speaker 1: movie guy? Not movie guide with multin dat do any
- 26:26Speaker 1: of it?
- 26:27Speaker 2: No?
- 26:27Speaker 1: I feel like we've talked about RoboCop a lot, Yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and Kenny a fair bit. Yeah. Okay, well it was
- 26:32Speaker 1: that the Starship Trips guy, same director, same director. We
- 26:36Speaker 1: talked about it in the Star Trips review. Probably did
- 26:38Speaker 1: next question you there eating the Beast trivia time. My
- 26:42Speaker 1: first question for you, mister Davis is what movie were
- 26:46Speaker 1: they going to see? Hungry Hungry Hippos Multiverse of Munching.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I was gonna have that. What is the subtitle of
- 26:52Speaker 1: that movie? So cross that one off. I really like
- 26:54Speaker 1: the fact that it said opening slash closing weekends. This
- 26:57Speaker 1: is a good gag to kick off with because ye
- 27:00Speaker 1: didn't oversay it's It was done within fifteen seconds and
- 27:03Speaker 1: it was very on the money. It felt modern, but
- 27:06Speaker 1: not kind of like we're trying to be twenty twenty
- 27:08Speaker 1: five guys, just like now there's the way we are.
- 27:10Speaker 1: This is the way we are now, yeah, which is
- 27:12Speaker 1: what the Simpsons used to feel and what The Symptoms
- 27:13Speaker 1: has always done best. It's like, yeah, holding up a
- 27:16Speaker 1: mirror to Moldern Society, and quite ironic that they release
- 27:19Speaker 1: the statement of we're making a second movie the day
- 27:21Speaker 1: after this episode. Correct, correct, correct. My first question to
- 27:25Speaker 1: you is Clincher was ex what CIA was one of them?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Navy seal army officer also a ranger ranger Okay. My
- 27:37Speaker 1: next question is what top of necklace did Keegan wear?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Pooka shell? Indeed, how much money was in Lisa's piggybank.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Lisa's piggybank was twenty eight dollars. Looked like spider pig
- 27:49Speaker 1: that piggy bank cruelty fee, cruelty free piggy bank as well. Yes, yes,
- 27:54Speaker 1: a nice visual gag that it's met for the hammer yep.
- 27:57Speaker 1: What is the address of the Springfield Convention Center. I
- 28:00Speaker 1: was on the poster when March holds it up. I
- 28:02Speaker 1: didn't look, so it is ten Main Street. Okay.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Then, speaking of nostalgia con March passes by booth. There
- 28:10Speaker 4: is a star of something called Dusty the.
- 28:13Speaker 1: What ghost something? I've got them all written down in
- 28:17Speaker 1: the notes. It's ghosts Hunter, It's Google Assassin, Google assas
- 28:21Speaker 1: Dusty the ghoul Assas Assasin. Okay. My final question for
- 28:24Speaker 1: you is what word was written on the butt of
- 28:26Speaker 1: Gloria Prince's pants sweatpants? Was it shy? Shy?
- 28:30Speaker 4: Yeah, that's like, here's a big one of on my
- 28:32Speaker 4: ass shy. Now I think you might just answered the
- 28:35Speaker 4: question that I was about to ask. Yeah, what is
- 28:38Speaker 4: Martin's mother's name?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Gloria? Gloria? She was the fashion queen? Yes, indeed, have
- 28:43Speaker 1: we ever known that before? I don't think so. No,
- 28:45Speaker 1: but I'm willing to go with it. All right, So
- 28:47Speaker 1: let's get into our review. Shall we have fifty Ways
- 28:49Speaker 1: to Thieve your mother? The original air day was September
- 28:52Speaker 1: twenty eighth, twenty twenty five. What are the top movies
- 28:55Speaker 1: of the box on the right, Now there's a kob
- 28:58Speaker 1: Demon production code three six A B B F one three,
- 29:03Speaker 1: Holy Molly, the Big Ones. Now just get a comrad
- 29:05Speaker 1: with the ride of this episode, directed by Gabrielle de Francesca.
- 29:08Speaker 1: As we said, now, I've got some guest appearances. Paul
- 29:10Speaker 1: Britton as Sean Garrett Effison, apparently the nephew or grandson
- 29:16Speaker 1: of Bob Newhart. He is the nephew, I believe, Yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 1: I think it was his uncle. That's right about that
- 29:21Speaker 1: Cole a scholar as definite.
- 29:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I mentioned Cole a little while back.
- 29:25Speaker 4: They are a big hit on Broadway with a show
- 29:28Speaker 4: called O Mary, which is like a musical comedy about
- 29:32Speaker 4: Lincoln's wife. Apparently it's apparently very entertaining. Cole is quite
- 29:37Speaker 4: the character who I've seen on various talk shows. Yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 4: it does a good job here. And Stephanie Zoo as well.
- 29:43Speaker 1: A voice on Big Mouth. Apparently I've only watched a
- 29:46Speaker 1: couple episodes of big Mouth, but ye, okay, then cool.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Also we've got David Herman our men, David Hermer's clincher, correct,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and Stephanie Stephanie Sue Sue yes to say as Vidalia. Yeah,
- 29:58Speaker 1: Oscar nominee for everything everywhere at once. Yes, a lot
- 30:01Speaker 1: of guest stars, and I'm glad they weren't playing themselves.
- 30:03Speaker 1: They were playing characters, and it felt like this felt
- 30:06Speaker 1: more like the Golden Ear or where they would give
- 30:07Speaker 1: them playing act genuine characters. Correct, when Marge goes to
- 30:11Speaker 1: the Nostalgic on and she meets Sean whatever, Sean Garrett
- 30:15Speaker 1: Evans and Triple Names were very big in the two thousand.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor Thomas Sarah, Michelle Geller, Jennifer love Hute. There
- 30:22Speaker 1: was another guy was neck James Van der Beek is
- 30:25Speaker 1: kind of wasn't it an earlier one to come up? Anyway?
- 30:28Speaker 1: Shout out to our JVDB by the way, Yeah, yeah,
- 30:32Speaker 1: not doing well, got the cancer.
- 30:33Speaker 4: But when he started talking at Nostalgic on, I was like,
- 30:38Speaker 4: did they get Joshua Jackson?
- 30:39Speaker 1: Did they get Passy? That would be funny, wouldn't.
- 30:41Speaker 4: It sounded a bit like him? Now, whether Paul Britain
- 30:43Speaker 4: was sort of modulating his voice to sound a bit
- 30:45Speaker 4: like it, because I thought it sounds a little paisy
- 30:47Speaker 4: this guy. Anyway, it turned out to be Paul Britain.
- 30:51Speaker 1: It was indeed. Yep, there was no chalk gad, there
- 30:54Speaker 1: was no billboard gag. They just jumped right into it. Yes. Indeed,
- 30:58Speaker 1: the family on their way to see the Hungry Home
- 31:00Speaker 1: Hippos movie on opening night movies are back, baby, Obviously
- 31:04Speaker 1: they're about to drink the Simpson's sequel. But Bart points
- 31:07Speaker 1: out that all think of all the chumps that are
- 31:09Speaker 1: waiting three days for when it's free on streaming. Turn
- 31:12Speaker 1: the car, yeah, turn the car around, and they quickly
- 31:14Speaker 1: turn around the animation here I've got here was great.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I don't think The Simpsons has ever looked this good.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I'm watching this going Simpsons just looks it just looks
- 31:21Speaker 1: top tier. Now looks sharp, it looks really sharp. It
- 31:24Speaker 1: cuts to three days later, they begin watching the movie
- 31:26Speaker 1: How God Intended on a small screen and riddled with ads,
- 31:29Speaker 1: and we get an ad for snoof. I believe it
- 31:31Speaker 1: is total body deodorant. There's a lot of ads for
- 31:35Speaker 1: non stink stuff flatally. Yeah. Yeah, maybe there's just one
- 31:39Speaker 1: that I'm seeing a lot say about me.
- 31:41Speaker 4: I don't know, but I don't know if you say
- 31:44Speaker 4: it's like a rex owner thing or something. But they're
- 31:46Speaker 4: showing up like nuts, but all the areas of your.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Body that kind of stink. Maybe this is taking me here.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but it's a bit kind of confronting. And also,
- 31:56Speaker 4: why don't you just have a shower?
- 31:58Speaker 1: What about your under your under pouch or stick? They
- 32:01Speaker 1: take it, take it to the extreme. Yeah, Marge's disgusted
- 32:03Speaker 1: by this. That all families laughing. She doesn't like it
- 32:05Speaker 1: at all. I love it. Skip skip skip in fifteen seconds.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Don't you hate that? Oh God, look, I just want
- 32:10Speaker 1: to skip out let's see, I was watching them. Yeah,
- 32:13Speaker 1: I'm paying for this streaming exerts one of why can't
- 32:15Speaker 1: I skip ads?
- 32:16Speaker 4: Yes, that really frustrated. I was watching something on the
- 32:19Speaker 4: streaming said the other night that now has ads. I'm like,
- 32:22Speaker 4: I'm already paying you. I shouldn't have to watch it.
- 32:26Speaker 4: That's why you have money for this. Yes, but then
- 32:29Speaker 4: it's elbow crutch and I have one of those. Then
- 32:31Speaker 4: it skips to another ad scrotum dust, and then another
- 32:34Speaker 4: one for butt right, does your stank stink? Then we
- 32:37Speaker 4: had Dingleberry season and Marge she's had enough. She pulls
- 32:39Speaker 4: the plug on the TV, which she is were gonna
- 32:41Speaker 4: watch it the old fashion mat. She pulls out a
- 32:42Speaker 4: box of DVDs. Either touch of it not being VHS
- 32:46Speaker 4: because that would have felt too Yeah, that's true, like
- 32:48Speaker 4: Marge going with the nineties or early two thousands, it
- 32:51Speaker 4: was DVDs. Of course it wasn't VHS, and well we
- 32:53Speaker 4: had we still have videotapes, but they felt old by
- 32:56Speaker 4: that point, didn't know VHS really felt like I was
- 32:58Speaker 4: that by two thousand it felt like the old medium.
- 33:02Speaker 4: I'm gonna say mid two thousands, I'm going to say
- 33:04Speaker 4: probably two thousand and four. It's just like, oh, you're
- 33:06Speaker 4: still watching videos. When was the last videotape released? It
- 33:08Speaker 4: wasn't like Toy Story two or something.
- 33:10Speaker 1: It could be. According to Google, the last major Hollywood
- 33:14Speaker 1: release on videotape in the US was the two thousand
- 33:16Speaker 1: and five movie A History of Violence, because ninety eight
- 33:19Speaker 1: would have been too early for videos. Cars is Oh.
- 33:22Speaker 1: That last one ever, which was not released, It was
- 33:26Speaker 1: only exclusively through the Movie Club in Disney was Cars
- 33:29Speaker 1: in twenty two thousand and seven. That was the last
- 33:30Speaker 1: film ever released on VHS. There we go VHS. Sometimes
- 33:35Speaker 1: I put DVDs and watch it on this old box TV,
- 33:38Speaker 1: and VHS just seems to look and feel better. Really. Yeah,
- 33:43Speaker 1: I don't know whether it's just the the way those
- 33:45Speaker 1: box TVs were made. You watched DVDs though on BtVS
- 33:48Speaker 1: Now they look shit, Oh darn, you do watch DVDs anymore.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I've still got some titles that are on that are
- 33:56Speaker 1: on DVD. I mean, I hear Dragon went out the
- 33:58Speaker 1: other day, and I haven't known they're good for commentaries.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, I've certainly got some that's like, oh, yeah,
- 34:04Speaker 4: this looks rough. Yeah, some that actually upscale quite nicely.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I think it was a good touch that it was DVD's,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I think. So she finds the March finds the DVD's
- 34:11Speaker 1: for Keigan's Pond, but Butt points out that someone had
- 34:14Speaker 1: a rush on Kevin Klein, and Homer says what we
- 34:16Speaker 1: all did at that time. When Marge finds Keikan's Pond
- 34:18Speaker 1: DVDs Keegan's Oh, I used to love this show.
- 34:24Speaker 3: It's about four teenagers played by twenty year old with
- 34:27Speaker 3: the problems are.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Forty year old.
- 34:29Speaker 1: This is very much the OC for me. Oh goodness, yes, yeah, oh,
- 34:32Speaker 1: all those shows it's meant to be Dawson's Creek, but
- 34:34Speaker 1: the OC or Party of Live yea, they all sort
- 34:38Speaker 1: of had that vibe to them. I remember when the
- 34:40Speaker 1: OC came on. It was just you had to watch it.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You know, if you didn't watch it, you felt like
- 34:45Speaker 1: you were way out of the loop at school. Check
- 34:47Speaker 1: out our episode of TV Launch Pot where yeah, that's right,
- 34:50Speaker 1: Homer says, it stinks. So he invites but yeses, but
- 34:54Speaker 1: to Mo's not on a school night. Then margin Lisa
- 34:57Speaker 1: start watching Kegan's Pond and the music sounds like I
- 35:00Speaker 1: don't want to wait very much so yeah, and she
- 35:03Speaker 1: says she had a big crush on Sean Garrett Everson. Meanwhile,
- 35:06Speaker 1: we got Homer and Bart googling manlier shows for manly men.
- 35:09Speaker 1: In the kitchen, they find Clincher ex Ranger xci X
- 35:12Speaker 1: Navy c Or John Clinch doles out his own brand
- 35:14Speaker 1: of justice with his fist. Have a fist. Yeah, and
- 35:18Speaker 1: as you said, these men love these things. Bart says
- 35:23Speaker 1: something punching. They're now watching Keigan's Pond, Marge and Lisa,
- 35:27Speaker 1: and she says he's on the show. He's sad because
- 35:29Speaker 1: his dad says he can't go to film school it's
- 35:31Speaker 1: for sissies, and he wants him to be a wedding planner.
- 35:35Speaker 1: He scored easy. Oh, I love it that. Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Keegan's Room has just got all those French movie posts in,
- 35:40Speaker 4: like Emily and four hundred Blows and all that kind
- 35:42Speaker 4: of stuff.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I don't know where this obviously was a product the time,
- 35:45Speaker 1: but the old climbing up the outside and climbing to
- 35:47Speaker 1: the bedroom window. Does that still have it anymore? I
- 35:49Speaker 1: don't think so. It's just a ladder in the window.
- 35:52Speaker 1: And then they go to the pond, Keegan's Pond. You
- 35:54Speaker 1: would say, did they used to go to a creek
- 35:56Speaker 1: in Dawson's Creek? Yeah, that's always just the town called
- 35:59Speaker 1: Dowson's Creek. Was his name Dawson, His name was Dawson,
- 36:02Speaker 1: But I think the town was something creek. We need
- 36:04Speaker 1: to look at this so I never watched it. Two
- 36:07Speaker 1: Child in Cape Side, Yeah, yeah, Dawson and Joey go
- 36:09Speaker 1: through different stages of adolescents together. Their friendship is later
- 36:12Speaker 1: tested when they both start a relationship with different people.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I don't want to That was Katie Home's big break, right,
- 36:21Speaker 1: it sure was? Was it Vanderbek's big break? He tried
- 36:24Speaker 1: to have a film career. It didn't quite work, didn't
- 36:26Speaker 1: quite play out of Varsity Blues was one film that
- 36:29Speaker 1: was a big one, right, But yeah, he.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Was in a movie called The Rules of Attraction, based
- 36:33Speaker 4: on a Brett Easton ellistovelest like and it was a
- 36:36Speaker 4: real sort of departure because it was just like young
- 36:38Speaker 4: people getting up to various sort of shenanigans at college.
- 36:41Speaker 4: It's a pretty gnarly movie. Actually, he's really good in it.
- 36:44Speaker 4: Vander Beek was a good actor still is I mean
- 36:47Speaker 4: he's done good?
- 36:48Speaker 1: What's the TV show he's on, he wasn't don't trust
- 36:51Speaker 1: the bitch and apartment through that's the one. Yeah. Yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 1: But then we have a time laps here and then
- 36:56Speaker 1: watching the show, going through all various stages, you know,
- 36:58Speaker 1: doing a hair and crying or whatnot, and he to
- 37:01Speaker 1: jail here Miss Junior Prahm. And then as the end
- 37:03Speaker 1: of the season, she hopes that March has the season
- 37:04Speaker 1: two DVD. March like, maybe I go on into the attic,
- 37:06Speaker 1: So they go up there. We pan up and we
- 37:08Speaker 1: see Easter eggs are in the walls. Home is watching
- 37:09Speaker 1: Clincher on the toilet. There's some Faberge eggs and the
- 37:12Speaker 1: next level of as well. Then Marge she finds the
- 37:14Speaker 1: season two DVD and she, oh, I forget about this
- 37:17Speaker 1: season's unfortunate haircuts and that was literally a thing fell
- 37:20Speaker 1: a TV shows back then, dictated fashion trends. Oh, it
- 37:22Speaker 1: doesn't happen anymore because we all just pick and shooes
- 37:24Speaker 1: we want to watch. But I go to the racial haircut,
- 37:28Speaker 1: like everyone was having that haircut and what they wore.
- 37:30Speaker 1: You want to dress like them? Yeah, And then Lisa
- 37:33Speaker 1: finds a dress. It looks just like the one that
- 37:35Speaker 1: Laney wore when she got drunk on cough syrup and
- 37:37Speaker 1: blew a Juilliard audition. And March looks through her middle
- 37:40Speaker 1: school yearbook and her friends, and I like to hear
- 37:42Speaker 1: that none of the people that she's standing with are
- 37:45Speaker 1: characters that we know, because sometimes I feel like the
- 37:47Speaker 1: Simpsons they get it's like everyone grew up in Springfield.
- 37:50Speaker 1: They all knew each other. It's like there's nothing else,
- 37:52Speaker 1: like No, Marge had other friends that we've never met before.
- 37:54Speaker 1: I love the banner, says, celebrating individuality. That's it all
- 37:58Speaker 1: with the same outfit. Lisa thinks the close of trendy
- 38:01Speaker 1: and Marge puts it on Lisa, you look like a
- 38:03Speaker 1: little me trying to look like a little Sarah. Jennifer
- 38:05Speaker 1: Hudson's that may be Sarah, Jessica Parker, Jennifer Hudsons.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Ah bit of Sarah, combination of Sarah, Michelle Gall Jennifer
- 38:12Speaker 4: love Hewt, Jennifer love Hewitt.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that'd be one. Yeah, okay, yep. I thought Sir
- 38:17Speaker 1: Jessica Parker a lot of three names. Wasn't there very much?
- 38:20Speaker 1: But she tells her to We're at to school, but
- 38:22Speaker 1: you know, it's like, I'm not too sure because I'm
- 38:24Speaker 1: used to flying under the radar, used to being here nobody.
- 38:26Speaker 1: But then she eventually agrees to do it. So the
- 38:28Speaker 1: next morning home is excited about Clincher. He can't wait.
- 38:30Speaker 1: And then and then Clincher was like, peace be with you, father,
- 38:33Speaker 1: but he meant peace like a gun. Then he punched
- 38:36Speaker 1: the priest. What's the gun? Time for work? There? The
- 38:41Speaker 1: clinker will be here when you get home. It's not Clinker, Marge,
- 38:44Speaker 1: it's Clincher. They're good. She's good looking. Ry. Lisa is
- 38:48Speaker 1: apprehensive the go out side in case everyone looks at her.
- 38:50Speaker 1: March's like, no one's gonna look at you. She gets
- 38:52Speaker 1: on the bus and everyone just stares because, oh my god,
- 38:55Speaker 1: you're you're fashionable. What's going on here? Marge is excited
- 38:58Speaker 1: for Lisa. She's at home. She's chating to Maggie about it.
- 39:00Speaker 1: She looked pretty fly. Funny things come back in style,
- 39:02Speaker 1: like the word fly, like the word crash is now
- 39:06Speaker 1: got a new meaning.
- 39:06Speaker 4: You very cleverly put together reel the other day or
- 39:10Speaker 4: Instagram story. I'm not up to David Linger of our
- 39:13Speaker 4: You mentioned Aaron to be with Nina, but to our
- 39:15Speaker 4: wise guy and I use the term dope sales, and
- 39:18Speaker 4: I was like, hope people know what they mean.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Did you like the zoom in when he said I'd
- 39:22Speaker 1: really much it?
- 39:24Speaker 2: Did?
- 39:24Speaker 1: You did well? You did a good kid. But yeah,
- 39:29Speaker 1: so you're not follow us on social media? Make sure
- 39:31Speaker 1: you're doing that. Follows on the Instagram at four figure discount.
- 39:33Speaker 1: But yeah, as I said, next morning, she got on
- 39:35Speaker 1: the bus, so she Marge's excited for Lisa. She's at
- 39:37Speaker 1: school and I bet she's I bet wearing mum's clothes
- 39:39Speaker 1: as cool today as it was when I was a
- 39:40Speaker 1: little girl. And then she's like, wait a minute, this
- 39:43Speaker 1: is not going to be good. So she panics instantly
- 39:44Speaker 1: race to the school to try and save Lisa. Lisa's
- 39:47Speaker 1: walking through the halls and the music here is sort
- 39:49Speaker 1: of like not a horror movie, but she's she's nervous,
- 39:51Speaker 1: like no one's talking to her, no one really knows
- 39:53Speaker 1: what to do, and then Jenny explains that no one's
- 39:55Speaker 1: going to say anything until they find out what they think.
- 39:57Speaker 1: It turns out to be the fashion Fashion Nistas. It
- 39:59Speaker 1: was well, yeah, fashion Easter. They refer to themselves as
- 40:03Speaker 1: Fashion Club, but yeah, they're kind of fashion. Yeah. The
- 40:05Speaker 1: fashion experts here are Devon and Vidalia, we find out
- 40:08Speaker 1: in a few moments. But Marge arrives off panicked, Oh please,
- 40:10Speaker 1: They'll be getting consoled by the janitor and then they're
- 40:13Speaker 1: giving her their opinion. Retro vives are still off the moment.
- 40:16Speaker 1: It tells the story, and that story is look at
- 40:18Speaker 1: my outfit. It works, and Database says here she took
- 40:21Speaker 1: a risk and it paid half. And Marge can't believe
- 40:23Speaker 1: her little girl is fashionable. Yeah. We come back from
- 40:25Speaker 1: commercial and Lisa is excited at home. She can't believe
- 40:28Speaker 1: what the day she had. Everyone clapped her when she
- 40:29Speaker 1: was in the cafeteria. She says, a great time. And
- 40:32Speaker 1: she says she can't go back to an old dress
- 40:33Speaker 1: anymore that they bought at CVS. Now CVS is a
- 40:35Speaker 1: pharmacy consumer value store. Yeah, she asks if Marge has
- 40:40Speaker 1: another core effort. Margins like, I've got one better than that.
- 40:42Speaker 1: She tips out the box and we get a montage.
- 40:44Speaker 1: A montage is more of like a time labs, but
- 40:46Speaker 1: it's like we're in different outfits. The first one reminded
- 40:48Speaker 1: me of Avril Levine. Very skater boy ish, Okay, like
- 40:51Speaker 1: just you know, the the shirt and the long sleep
- 40:53Speaker 1: underneath of the shirt over over the top just reminded
- 40:55Speaker 1: me of what avver lavine world, and like that complicated
- 40:57Speaker 1: film clip. But you've got it.
- 40:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you've got a whole lot of no fits in there.
- 41:00Speaker 4: You've definitely got some leash of Silverstone and clueless. Yeah yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 4: But as I said, all to these sounds of the bomb, yes,
- 41:07Speaker 4: these sounds flowing, I've written down here undisputed fact ninety's

- 41:47Speaker 1: putting up a poster for the Mother's Son dance. Right now,
- 41:51Speaker 1: that's just a sight gig in itself, but I like
- 41:53Speaker 1: that that pays off later on, because you know what,
- 41:55Speaker 1: they're doing here. They are teaching kids who are watching
- 41:57Speaker 1: this pay attention. Don't get you fucking phones like that's
- 42:01Speaker 1: that's always read. What's going on, is something happening, and
- 42:04Speaker 1: that might pay off later on, So pay attention to
- 42:07Speaker 1: the screens. Then Devin and Vadali invited into the Fashion
- 42:10Speaker 1: Club after they realized she wasn't just a one fit wonder,
- 42:13Speaker 1: which is a good web play there. I'm Devin, spelled
- 42:16Speaker 1: like Heaven but with a D and no A and
- 42:18Speaker 1: an I for the second e. Of course, you know Vidhalia, No,
- 42:22Speaker 1: you've never met Darling.
- 42:24Speaker 2: We were worried you might be a one fit wonder,
- 42:27Speaker 2: but we've been loving the vintage looks.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Welcome to Fashion Club.
- 42:32Speaker 3: You guys meet in the music room.
- 42:33Speaker 1: We took it over when mister Largo died.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Mister Largo died or he has jewelry duty.
- 42:39Speaker 1: It was something dumb Lize's reaction here was my did
- 42:44Speaker 1: this happened? That little screw member with the oil.
- 42:46Speaker 4: That's because I've been a bit remiss and haven't watched
- 42:49Speaker 4: a lot of quote unquote modern Simpson.
- 42:50Speaker 1: So I was like, I'm very well and I would
- 42:56Speaker 1: be sad yea because he was just in the episode
- 42:58Speaker 1: we just reviewed where it was Give Me One Night,
- 43:00Speaker 1: Get Your Broadway. Now, they invite her drifting on Saturday
- 43:05Speaker 1: afternoon since they think that's where she's getting the clothes from.
- 43:07Speaker 1: They didn't realize that she's got it from Marge's box.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Marge's clothing box up in the attic, and he says,
- 43:12Speaker 1: you better like boba or I swear to God, now Boba.
- 43:14Speaker 1: That's drink, right, It's like Boba tea. Yeah, which, Devin,
- 43:18Speaker 1: I think that might be a bit sort of twenty nineteen.
- 43:22Speaker 1: It feels a bit old, baby doesn't Yeah, I remember
- 43:25Speaker 1: people drinking it. I was like, I don't know.
- 43:26Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, there was certainly a phase in Geelong where
- 43:28Speaker 4: it's like I want to go to that bubble tee
- 43:30Speaker 4: place and I don't think there are that many left
- 43:32Speaker 4: around anymore.
- 43:33Speaker 1: But Terry is there. But no Sherry ever seen Sherry
- 43:37Speaker 1: slay and slay.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Oh.
- 43:38Speaker 1: When I heard her say this, I was like, my god.
- 43:40Speaker 4: It's terrible, but I'm glad that they included it, and
- 43:43Speaker 4: not in a way that I mean. It felt like, okay, well,
- 43:46Speaker 4: you're trying to keep up to date with what the
- 43:48Speaker 4: kids are saying.
- 43:48Speaker 1: These days. It didn't feel like you were using it.
- 43:52Speaker 4: To be cool, and it felt like like I said,
- 43:54Speaker 4: this is what this is our kids talk in twenty
- 43:57Speaker 4: twenty far Yeah, and you know, if we're going to
- 43:59Speaker 4: be up to date, might as well incorporate it.
- 44:02Speaker 1: I've said on the podcast. When Nicola had her previous employment,
- 44:05Speaker 1: she was like the boss of early young early twenty
- 44:07Speaker 1: year olds. And Nichola starts saying, slam on Nicola, don't
- 44:10Speaker 1: just don't. Oh yeah, I don't. Try and see what
- 44:13Speaker 1: she's like. It's what they say at the office. I'm like, yes, stay,
- 44:17Speaker 1: leave it, please say slay it home please. It sounds terrible,
- 44:21Speaker 1: but yeah, she's a or as much as serve. Then
- 44:25Speaker 1: she says keep walking km out like that. I felt bad,
- 44:27Speaker 1: Like by close it came up. Who does not Hanko
- 44:30Speaker 1: ty for clincher again, Homer's watching it at work. Cars
- 44:33Speaker 1: the Smithy is trap between these two things. Oh wait,
- 44:35Speaker 1: gets distracted, Lenny walks in. He's running at a duction,
- 44:38Speaker 1: starts watching. Then it to everyone watching, including Burns, the
- 44:40Speaker 1: alarms going off. Lenny smashes the alarm. It's just it's
- 44:43Speaker 1: just guys in general. So every Homer bits just short
- 44:45Speaker 1: and sweet, but it works. I think that's white. Maybe
- 44:47Speaker 1: it's why it works because it's short and sharp. I
- 44:50Speaker 1: think so. Yeah.
- 44:50Speaker 4: I mean, well, it doesn't really have a whole lot
- 44:52Speaker 4: of bearing on the story other than a payoff at
- 44:54Speaker 4: the very end.
- 44:54Speaker 1: And it does feel like we're doing season twenty one
- 44:57Speaker 1: of the podcast right now. They would try and this
- 45:00Speaker 1: more of a thing than what it actually is. It's
- 45:02Speaker 1: like Jessica acknowledges, this doesn't need to be more than this,
- 45:05Speaker 1: Like you need to have Homer involved, just have him appear.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and just yeah, it doesn't even have to be
- 45:11Speaker 4: about home. It just make it gags about how ridiculous
- 45:13Speaker 4: Clincher is. Yeah, that's it, how it was just all punching, all.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Kicking all the time. Marge walks in excited, has shown
- 45:19Speaker 1: it Nostalgia. Knor's coming to the Springfield Convention Center this Saturday.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Your favorite TV stars of the nineties in varying degrees
- 45:24Speaker 1: of recognized billity. Oh god, yeah, so good. There's a
- 45:29Speaker 1: keg ins Pond meet and Grid at two o'clock and
- 45:30Speaker 1: Lisa says, oh, I've already got plans. But then when
- 45:32Speaker 1: Marge looks out, she's like, look, I don't want to
- 45:34Speaker 1: disappoint you, Like, I'll find the time, I'll be there,
- 45:36Speaker 1: I'll meet you there. Margin notices her Frank Paul Donkey shirt.
- 45:40Speaker 1: She has so many great memories with it, and thanks Lisa,
- 45:42Speaker 1: she has one more. And as we're saying earlier clothes
- 45:44Speaker 1: have that impact on you, Frank Paul Donkey is Paul
- 45:48Speaker 1: Frank Monkey. Yeah, just letting you know I didn't. I
- 45:51Speaker 1: actually agree. I'm like, was there like a Donkey variant
- 45:53Speaker 1: that was? But no, there wasn't.
- 45:55Speaker 2: No.
- 45:56Speaker 1: But then Lisa realizes that she's going to need money
- 45:58Speaker 1: if she's going to be buying some stuff from thrifting.
- 46:00Speaker 1: And she smashes open her cruelty free money box just
- 46:02Speaker 1: like spider pick, and she has twenty eight dollars, which
- 46:04Speaker 1: she thinks is going to be enough for a couple
- 46:05Speaker 1: of cute little thrift store outfits.
- 46:06Speaker 4: And it turns out no, yeah, immediate cut to what
- 46:09Speaker 4: one hundred bucks for it for a shirt for a
- 46:12Speaker 4: twa shirt doesn't.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Nowline doesn't even exist anymore. And you know who the
- 46:16Speaker 1: the owner, but the worker was behind the panter shiner.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Oh was that sure? Yeah? Brilliant, Yeah, she's a worker
- 46:23Speaker 1: and there's a sign on the cannon that says today
- 46:24Speaker 1: skinny jeans are uncool. Yes, because three stores are dictating
- 46:28Speaker 1: fashion these days. Lisa can't believe everything so expensive, and
- 46:31Speaker 1: Vidali explains how thrifting works. Some used that forty year
- 46:34Speaker 1: old donates a box full of clothes from when she matted,
- 46:36Speaker 1: and lindsay nagel is, don't durn'ting close in the background.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I was like, I'm three years away from forty. I'm
- 46:42Speaker 1: now old. I'm now who they're talking about, you know,
- 46:48Speaker 1: to quite Michael Jordan fucked the kids. But before when
- 46:52Speaker 1: she mad at as we were saying, Lin dropping off
- 46:54Speaker 1: some closes in the background. Then someone cool but scary,
- 46:56Speaker 1: which is shortener, slaps a huge price tag on it.
- 46:59Speaker 1: So thriet doors for poor people anymore? Oh sweetheart, that
- 47:01Speaker 1: nothing is. Then Lisa says to ditch this because she
- 47:04Speaker 1: has a better idea. Meanwhile, at Nostalgia con and you
- 47:08Speaker 1: see it says, see what time does to people. Marge's
- 47:12Speaker 1: walking through now the various stores or the various booths
- 47:15Speaker 1: should say chilling with mister Brow Is that about mister
- 47:18Speaker 1: God hanging with mister Cooper? Of course, yes, Now there's
- 47:22Speaker 1: one I said itch please, you couldn't see the bee,
- 47:24Speaker 1: and I said, itch please? Does that meant to be?
- 47:27Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I don't think there was
- 47:28Speaker 1: ever a TV series called Bitch Please, and neither do
- 47:30Speaker 1: I know? Says kiss my butler? What's that on take off?
- 47:33Speaker 1: Maybe the nanny maybe, I don't know. Don't go there,
- 47:37Speaker 1: which is a reference to the Simmers. Don't go there.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Supreme Courtney substitute priest talked to the hand Upscally in home.
- 47:45Speaker 1: I think it was Upscally in something, but it was
- 47:46Speaker 1: an alien. Okay. Table for seven Palmdale nine three five
- 47:51Speaker 1: one Oh, Dusty the gool assassin you mentioned earlier, and
- 47:54Speaker 1: Marge's walking past. Everyone's had too much work done or
- 47:57Speaker 1: nearly not enough, not nearly enough. Then she finds her
- 48:00Speaker 1: power from Kegan's pond. He's at the stand. The sign
- 48:03Speaker 1: says an autograph twenty dollars selfie, fifty dollars a selfie
- 48:06Speaker 1: with touching his twenty five dollars less money if he
- 48:08Speaker 1: touches you. Marge can't believe she beat the crowd, and
- 48:11Speaker 1: he just knows it's going to be sad. Oh god, yeah,
- 48:13Speaker 1: I beat the crowd. There never was a crowd. There's
- 48:16Speaker 1: never going to be a crowd. Eh shorts a photo
- 48:19Speaker 1: with her and Lisa that counts two semies, but she says,
- 48:21Speaker 1: Leasa's late, so she said past the time he's going
- 48:23Speaker 1: to tell her about the lawsuit against the makers of
- 48:25Speaker 1: the Kegan's Pond slot machine. It's against me. We had
- 48:27Speaker 1: a timelps here of Marge just not having a good time, well, just.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Listening to his various SOB stories I think, showing off
- 48:34Speaker 4: it looked like an appened nectimy scar or maybe having
- 48:36Speaker 4: like a kidney removed or something like that, doing his
- 48:39Speaker 4: one armed push ups all Jack Palance at the nineteen
- 48:41Speaker 4: ninety one oscars, showing that he's still vital, still strong.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Just crying and then just crying, just crying. He says
- 48:49Speaker 1: heyes to leave before they charge him for a full
- 48:50Speaker 1: day's table rental, and Marge can't believe that Lisa stood
- 48:53Speaker 1: her up, and he says, well, it looks like your afternoons.
- 48:55Speaker 1: He ever done it in a men's shelter. They really
- 48:58Speaker 1: go to town on. I mean, not all people like
- 49:01Speaker 1: these nostalgia cons are like this, but you can just
- 49:04Speaker 1: obviously some of them are. Should we feel sorry? For them. Oh,
- 49:07Speaker 1: you couldn't help but take it personally though.
- 49:08Speaker 4: I mean, if you're seeing cues around the block for
- 49:10Speaker 4: you know, someone else, someone else's like, don't you remember
- 49:14Speaker 4: the Star of Lost Boys too?
- 49:18Speaker 1: Now it's not for fashion club. And they're going through
- 49:20Speaker 1: Marge's clothes in Lisa's room. Vadalia's mum sent her clothes
- 49:24Speaker 1: to the victims of a flood, so selfish. And Lisa
- 49:26Speaker 1: goes through the yearbook and suggests that all the mums
- 49:28Speaker 1: have forgotten they must have forgotten vintage clothes in their addicts,
- 49:32Speaker 1: and Vadalia turns Marge's poor Frank donkey into a crop top.
- 49:35Speaker 1: I liked the edit here, so she basically says that,
- 49:39Speaker 1: So when Marge walks in as she's cutting the shest,
- 49:43Speaker 1: what a bitch for Dahi cutting March's clothes? Oh yeah,
- 49:45Speaker 1: like Lisa should have done more to stop her here.
- 49:47Speaker 1: This is where Lisa goes full hill Turner, doesn't She
- 49:50Speaker 1: She does very much. I mean, I mean, look at admittedly,
- 49:52Speaker 1: when you're around intimidatingly cool kids like Devin and Vadalia,
- 49:55Speaker 1: you'd want to sort of be in with the in crowd,
- 49:57Speaker 1: as I've said, Yeah, but March as she waited for
- 50:00Speaker 1: hours met key and it was unsettling. A couple of
- 50:02Speaker 1: Lisa was at home, defiling her close to the cast
- 50:04Speaker 1: of Euphoria, which a timely reference.
- 50:07Speaker 4: I guess, sure, yeah, well you mean sort of appropriate
- 50:10Speaker 4: as well, given that they're talking about, you know, it
- 50:12Speaker 4: seems so innocent, you know, the team melodramas of the
- 50:15Speaker 4: two thousands or whatever stuff like doing, compared to.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Euphoria, which is just you know, I mentioned Bradisnallis before.
- 50:20Speaker 1: It's basically like sex, drugs and techno. Yeah, that's that's it. Yeah,
- 50:25Speaker 1: Lisa says she didn't think that you would care, because
- 50:27Speaker 1: you don't. These clothes don't fit you, and you're not
- 50:29Speaker 1: cooling off the pull off anyway. That's not nice and
- 50:32Speaker 1: not the kids are laughing at March and call for
- 50:34Speaker 1: Marge takes the clothes back. Now, who's cool you, ma'am,
- 50:37Speaker 1: and she says, make like a banana and peel. I
- 50:39Speaker 1: get it in context. I guess they're walking out, and
- 50:41Speaker 1: as they leave, Lisa looks really sad. Marge looks back
- 50:43Speaker 1: with a sign of guilt, and I've just got here.
- 50:45Speaker 1: I get that right. And it's a little touch because
- 50:48Speaker 1: just the way she looked back at her. When I
- 50:49Speaker 1: grow out the kids, and it's not very often, but
- 50:51Speaker 1: sometimes you just growl right or you react before thinking,
- 50:55Speaker 1: and you mentally feel guilty and you shouldn't feel guilty,
- 50:58Speaker 1: but I always sort of feel like I probably could
- 50:59Speaker 1: have hand that situation a bit better. It would have
- 51:01Speaker 1: been nice not to be in that situation, or for
- 51:04Speaker 1: that situation to have gone better. But sometimes, yeah, you
- 51:07Speaker 1: need to growl sometimes. And There's only been a handful
- 51:10Speaker 1: of times where I've reacted before I've thought about it,
- 51:13Speaker 1: and you can't help but think, oh, there must have
- 51:15Speaker 1: been a better way to handle it, or no, more likely,
- 51:18Speaker 1: I wish there had been a better way to handle that,
- 51:19Speaker 1: but no, it required a growl. The biggest one for
- 51:21Speaker 1: me was when they flooded the house. Oh, I just said,
- 51:24Speaker 1: don't sit on the tap. Jeez. I was not impressed
- 51:28Speaker 1: that day at all. But back at school, Lisa was
- 51:31Speaker 1: wearing her old dress again. But they still say, no, Lisa,
- 51:34Speaker 1: it's cool to hang out with this if you want to,
- 51:35Speaker 1: and She's like, never, Mum was a bit of a
- 51:37Speaker 1: bit of a bitch, or which is a bitch, but
- 51:38Speaker 1: she says was a bit mean. We had ditch people
- 51:41Speaker 1: just for having crazy mothers. Devon's mum was set fire
- 51:43Speaker 1: to a piano store to get attention of a news anchor.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Mission accomplished. Then they say they're going to a party
- 51:48Speaker 1: at a friend's house, which turns out to be Ralph,
- 51:50Speaker 1: and it's like in Candyland. It's like, what's going on? Yeah, and.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Terry's been in the bathroom for a while. I'm gonna
- 51:58Speaker 2: go check on her.
- 51:59Speaker 1: If you see up in the mirror, say hi. You
- 52:02Speaker 1: know Vadalia has been checking on Terry for a while.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna go check on Vdalia checking on Terry.
- 52:09Speaker 3: That's weird.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Time to go what?
- 52:12Speaker 3: Oh okay, I'm popular? Why are we leaving?
- 52:18Speaker 1: And why do we? Hum?
- 52:21Speaker 2: Man?
- 52:21Speaker 1: What a hole?
- 52:22Speaker 2: Vintuo jubber Crombie flannel, yuess overall spaghetti scrup dressed.
- 52:27Speaker 1: You stole missus Wiggam's old clothes.
- 52:31Speaker 2: It was just sitting in an attict totally forgotten, just
- 52:34Speaker 2: like you said, great job is look out by the way.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Oh god, I was an accessory.
- 52:39Speaker 1: No, this is an accessory. You're right. You really don't
- 52:45Speaker 1: have the head shape. We come back now, and Lisa's
- 52:49Speaker 1: stressing out the sheet that whilst they're going through the clothes,
- 52:51Speaker 1: she thinks she's gonna be going to jail. And this
- 52:53Speaker 1: is where you were touching on earlier. They try to
- 52:55Speaker 1: justify why it's okay because they keeping out the clause
- 52:57Speaker 1: of big thrift and they were socking old clothes and
- 52:59Speaker 1: supporting fast fashion. Now do you want to explore fast
- 53:02Speaker 1: fashion is?
- 53:03Speaker 4: Well, fast fashion is just you go back in time
- 53:06Speaker 4: a little bit, and clothing used to have seasons. You
- 53:09Speaker 4: basically had like two two lines a year, spring collection,
- 53:13Speaker 4: your fall collection or something like that. And yeah, all
- 53:17Speaker 4: of a sudden you've got factories and outlets and labels
- 53:21Speaker 4: sort of turning out things very very quickly, usually for
- 53:23Speaker 4: very low cost, and usually pretty low quality as well.
- 53:25Speaker 4: But it's on trend and you're usually designed to be
- 53:28Speaker 4: maybe worn three or four times and then you just
- 53:30Speaker 4: throw it out, give it away, but it's usually of
- 53:33Speaker 4: such shit quality that nobody even wants it, even at
- 53:35Speaker 4: the thrift shop. So yeah, there are many a documentary
- 53:39Speaker 4: or video you could watch about They usually just end
- 53:41Speaker 4: up in like Garner somewhere in Africa and just these huge, huge, huge,
- 53:46Speaker 4: huge piles of clothing that nobody wants and they need it. Well, no,
- 53:52Speaker 4: they don't even wear it. I mean some of it,
- 53:53Speaker 4: they sort of even some of them will sell. But
- 53:57Speaker 4: the stuff they can't sell that it goes into landfillm
- 53:59Speaker 4: ends up in ribt, s ends up in ocean. Yeah,
- 54:02Speaker 4: it's fast humans, baby, fast humans. We kind of suck. Yeah, no,
- 54:08Speaker 4: fast fashion. It's actually a legitimate problem.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but Terry says, here is Terry knows Sherry, which
- 54:13Speaker 1: wasn't it. I think Terry's Sherry's came up girl. Yeah,
- 54:17Speaker 1: Terry says, the victimist crime wich is the second best kind.
- 54:19Speaker 1: And lisays, but it's still a crime to look this good,
- 54:22Speaker 1: because she says herself in the mirror, and she tries
- 54:24Speaker 1: to justify to herself by saying that, no, Sarah Wigham,
- 54:27Speaker 1: she wouldn't even have handed down to Ralph anyway, Like
- 54:29Speaker 1: that's the spirit. It gives them the idea to only
- 54:31Speaker 1: hit the houses of boys because the mothers aren't going
- 54:34Speaker 1: to be given the clothes away anyway. And what's going
- 54:35Speaker 1: to happen a little later on Mother's Sunday. Yeah, yeah,
- 54:40Speaker 1: so she says. Before that, though, Lisa gets the voicemail
- 54:43Speaker 1: from Marge and basic. Marge is bitter, she's angry. She says,
- 54:46Speaker 1: don't don't forget it, dentist the woman blah blah blah.
- 54:49Speaker 1: She's got a real sass behind it, and Lisa says,
- 54:51Speaker 1: she's she's in. But I need to get all the
- 54:52Speaker 1: ones out of the house.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Now.
- 54:53Speaker 1: It's the time, as you're saying, for the mother's son
- 54:56Speaker 1: dance at the at the school of the way, it's
- 55:00Speaker 1: time for the mother's son dance. Get ready to part?
- 55:02Speaker 1: Hey misread the party and with Devon says, thank god,
- 55:08Speaker 1: my mom's in jail for piano Arson and Lisa knows
- 55:11Speaker 1: how to distract all the dads and it's clincher, But
- 55:14Speaker 1: how is she going to get all the pet that's
- 55:15Speaker 1: to watch clincher? We will find out Bart's trying to
- 55:18Speaker 1: run away from March before they get to the dance.
- 55:20Speaker 1: He's like, I don't want to go, don't want to go.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Lisa compliments March's dress glad it fits barely, and I'm
- 55:25Speaker 1: like you little bitch, wow, Like that's what do you mean? Cool?
- 55:29Speaker 1: I don't know where your friends aren't around right now,
- 55:32Speaker 1: Just calm down. But Barr says, I don't worry, Mom,
- 55:34Speaker 1: she's not worth it, and he takes her to the
- 55:35Speaker 1: dance and March's lasneys in the fridge, eat around the beef.
- 55:38Speaker 1: I'm like, that's how you get back at it. Eat
- 55:40Speaker 1: around the beefield a cow. Now it's time for the
- 55:43Speaker 1: highest and they have a map of the houses for
- 55:46Speaker 1: Springfield's fashion hotties, the various mothers who had the best
- 55:49Speaker 1: fashion when they were younger, all the moms at the dance,
- 55:51Speaker 1: and Lisa has the Dad Distractor, which is a universal remote.
- 55:55Speaker 1: I will never forget the first time I got a
- 55:57Speaker 1: universal remote. It was like entering a new world, were
- 56:00Speaker 1: getting your first niverse. Like I can control the VC,
- 56:02Speaker 1: the TV, everything with one remote. It's awesome. We had
- 56:06Speaker 1: one once that could control foxtail as well. So good
- 56:10Speaker 1: because how annoying was it when it got two points
- 56:12Speaker 1: like surround sound system, fucking TV VH like six remotes
- 56:16Speaker 1: and it's like, which is what you know? Look at
- 56:18Speaker 1: the brand? But I have Sam Suck three of samsu
- 56:21Speaker 1: which was this one though they go to rob the
- 56:24Speaker 1: van Houten's. First they turn on the TV. He's clinched,
- 56:27Speaker 1: let's go shopping. The next one is the Hippits. He's
- 56:29Speaker 1: Watching Like an Animal documentary and they turn it on
- 56:32Speaker 1: to Clincher as well. Then we get Wendall's dad. I
- 56:35Speaker 1: don't think we've ever seen Wendell's dad, but I love
- 56:37Speaker 1: the little gag, the fact that he almost vomits at
- 56:40Speaker 1: the neck break on the film, because Wendell is always
- 56:41Speaker 1: the kid that's always throwing up. And then they're off
- 56:44Speaker 1: racing down the street on a trolley with clothes. They've
- 56:47Speaker 1: scored the big score, but they haven't finished yet. Meanwhile, though,
- 56:50Speaker 1: at the dance, Wendle now Wendell is dancing with a
- 56:52Speaker 1: woman who was absolutely banging. I'm like, there's no way
- 56:56Speaker 1: that Wendell's dad is banging. That he may have a
