- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the Good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset, coach, creative
- 0:08strategist, and also happen to be a farmer.
- 0:11This is my Chicken coop and I come out here.
- 0:13Every day to record a podcast to.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy.
- 0:20Into the. World.
- 0:21So welcome to the. Coop and let's start your day
- 0:24off in a fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning from
- 0:30my studio. It's early dark, and I'm writing
- 0:33today and I'm actually working on something to help out a
- 0:38friend of my son. And a lot of us end up getting
- 0:43stuck in stories. And those stories are not
- 0:47necessarily helpful for us. And the stories about us.
- 0:50That's what the the big conundrum is always when it's a
- 0:53story about us. And it's not necessarily helping
- 0:56us because we're stuck in that story.
- 0:59We have to change it. And the story you tell yourself
- 1:03is incredibly important. It's incredibly, incredibly
- 1:06important. I in the past year, I had to
- 1:10change a story I was telling myself because I had something I
- 1:14was working on and I didn't want to share it with anybody because
- 1:17I was like, oh, what will they think if they if they hear this
- 1:21part of it? And I worked on it with my
- 1:24coach. I made decisions I and I changed
- 1:27what I was telling myself. Now here's the interesting part
- 1:30about this. The stories that we tell
- 1:33ourselves can be grand and wonderful if we would allow
- 1:36ourselves to tell good damn stories.
- 1:38But often we don't tell good stories.
- 1:41We tell really, really bad stories and those stories become
- 1:46the reality that we tell them over and over again.
- 1:49So it's it's about deciding that you don't like the story and
- 1:55you're going to change the story.
- 1:56Now here's what's interesting about this.
- 1:58The stories we tell become the identity we have.
- 2:02And that's really what this is about today.
- 2:05The story you tell becomes the identity you have.
- 2:08And what's even more fascinating is you can constantly morph and
- 2:13change your identity, like legitimately morph and change
- 2:17your identity about how you see yourself, who you are, by
- 2:21changing the story you tell yourself.
- 2:25And then it starts to shift and before you know it, you're in a
- 2:29new place. Now most of us have seen the
- 2:32story or read the book by Charles Dickens, The Christmas
- 2:35Carol. And you know, we see Ebenezer
- 2:38and Ebenezer is at the end of his life or towards the end of
- 2:42his life, and he's miserable and nasty.
- 2:45And when they tell the story and you go back and the angels come,
- 2:49the ghosts come and they're helping him transition through
- 2:52the stories of his life. There's the ghosts of Christmas
- 2:55past, the ghosts of Christmas present and the ghosts of
- 2:59Christmas future, or you know it, it's, it's laid out very
- 3:03simply, past, present, future. Well, think about it in terms of
- 3:08yourself that way the person you were in your past is not the
- 3:12person you are right now. Like the person that was Kim.
- 3:15When I had all that anxiety all the time and I was constantly
- 3:20riddled with fear. I mean, some of some of the
- 3:25paralysis, not even being able to lay on the couch without
- 3:28opening my eyes because I was afraid I would have an anxiety
- 3:31attack. That person physically is still
- 3:34me, but that person is definitely not me from the the
- 3:40identity that I have for myself anymore.
- 3:43That person doesn't even exist in my day-to-day.
- 3:47And how is that possible? Well, it's because of what we
- 3:50how we change what we feel, how we change what we see, how we
- 3:53change what we believe about ourselves.
- 3:55And then everything else just moves on.
- 3:59The person that I am in the present right now, the person
- 4:02who is studying all these different things about herbs,
- 4:06how to grow different things, how to learn botanical names and
- 4:10remember them. Because gosh knows I am not good
- 4:13at that. And in the current moment, but
- 4:15the future version of myself is she loves it.
- 4:19And it's so funny how those things all tie together because
- 4:22it's always been a sore spot for me that I can't remember those
- 4:26kind of names. Like, it's something weird in my
- 4:28brain. I just don't remember them.
- 4:30And then yesterday, I was at a Garden Club meeting and they
- 4:33were talking about, oh, if you're someone who likes the
- 4:35botanical names and you like to study that and you can, you
- 4:39know, help us at a table, we would love that.
- 4:42And I was like, oh, oh, I would love to be able to help with
- 4:45that. And I didn't get sad about it
- 4:48that I couldn't do it. I was excited because now it
- 4:51gave me motivation even more to learn it.
- 4:54So when we start blending all of this information and pulling
- 4:57from the what we know about ourselves as we are right now,
- 5:01what we used to believe about ourselves, our past and where we
- 5:04want to go in the future, we can start to create something
- 5:07completely different for ourselves.
- 5:09And what's important about this is that you don't get hung up on
- 5:13where you are right now more than knowing where you're
- 5:17starting the drive. Just like if you were going to
- 5:19take a trip, the GPS doesn't say to you, OK, you know, like where
- 5:24are you going first? What it says is where are you?
- 5:26You have to put in when you go there, what's your starting
- 5:29point? That's always what the GPS asks,
- 5:32what's your starting point? Or in our case, now with the
- 5:34phones, they just know where we are because we've got navigation
- 5:38on, but it's taking that information first.
- 5:41So if you figure out where you are right now and you know where
- 5:46you want to go and you're willing to let go of where
- 5:49you've been as well and say, Nope, I'm going to focus that
- 5:52every day. The person that started
- 5:54listening to this is not going to be the person that finished
- 5:57listening to it because you have a different outlook on things.
- 6:00Anything can change. So work on this my friends,
- 6:04because I promise you it definitely works.
- 6:08I hope that you guys have an amazing, wonderful day, fully
- 6:12blessed in this new mindset and I will talk to you all tomorrow.
- 6:16Bye.
