- 0:27Hey, everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So you can hear way off in the distance the geese flying over.
- 0:34It's that time of the year. They're starting to move on and
- 0:39they're flying over. So it's a perfect introduction,
- 0:44I think, to today's topic, which is the gardening never stops,
- 0:49the garden never stops. And I always used to think it
- 0:53was seasonal. And then I moved to a place
- 0:56where I have the option to do it longer.
- 1:00And it really made me think about even when I was up north,
- 1:04the garden is always in its own function.
- 1:06The garden's always doing its own thing.
- 1:07And I am very much a part of always being out there.
- 1:13So that actually is gardening, cleaning up, doing all these
- 1:16things and getting it ready for the next part of it.
- 1:20And fall is such an important time because everything is going
- 1:25to seed. Everything has its little, you
- 1:27know, transition that it's going into.
- 1:30Strangely enough, because of the odd weather we have had, there
- 1:34is so much, there's so many things that are growing again.
- 1:38I've got loofah growing again like it didn't go all summer and
- 1:42now it is because the conditions are right for it.
- 1:44The plant hung on and now I've got loofah sponges coming up,
- 1:47which is fabulous and odd and such a surprise surprise.
- 1:51But the garden is telling me it never stops.
- 1:54And from my perspective, there's Every season has something to be
- 1:57done. And it's such a metaphor for
- 1:59life. Every season has something to be
- 2:01done. Every week has something to be
- 2:03done. You know, one of the things
- 2:05about Martha Stewart that always made me so curious about who she
- 2:09was as a person is when she had her magazine in the beginning,
- 2:13she would put her calendar and she would tell us what was on
- 2:16her calendar for the month. And she would tell us that this
- 2:20is what she was doing for gardening or this is what she
- 2:22was doing for TV appearances and all of this stuff.
- 2:25And it really struck me when I was younger, 'cause I would get
- 2:29the magazine all the time before they no longer made the
- 2:33magazine. I was, it always struck me as
- 2:35such an important thing that this woman was always planning,
- 2:39always looking ahead, always seeing what she would do, how
- 2:42she would organize. And I, it had a huge impact on
- 2:45me as a person because I think it's part of where I got I, I
- 2:49learned all of that. It was not something I learned
- 2:51in school. It was not something I learned
- 2:53from my mother. My dad was definitely not a
- 2:57calendar guy. He was just a get out there and
- 3:00do it guy. But I definitely obsess on the
- 3:05planning, the laying out, the 306090 days, going through it
- 3:09all and the garden has just added on to that.
- 3:12And then thinking about, OK, well what are the seasons that
- 3:15we all go through in life? It's all interconnected.
- 3:18And because the garden never stops, you have to think, well,
- 3:22I never stop. There's always something
- 3:24happening. There's always things that I can
- 3:26do out here. So at this point in time,
- 3:29getting ready to collect seeds from flowers, getting ready to
- 3:33go in and clean up, open the gates, let the chickens go in
- 3:36there, clean out all the grubs and the bugs, you know, we're
- 3:41right on the precipice of that happening, which is awesome.
- 3:44I always love that. It's like cleaning out a dirty
- 3:46kitchen drawer that's been sitting there for too long.
- 3:50Cleaning just makes me happy. But when you start to think
- 3:53about how how we do that in our own mind, what part of this are
- 3:58we doing for ourselves? Are we taking on that this To Do
- 4:02List thing never ends and we feel overwhelmed by or we just
- 4:06say that's life. It never stops.
- 4:08It's always something going. And when you make those small
- 4:11little curiosity points for yourself, you go, oh, OK, you
- 4:15don't feel bad, you've missed something or whatever.
- 4:18You you can take it into a very different perspective.
- 4:21It's powerful, really powerful when you do that and recognize
- 4:26every month has something. So we can learn from Martha that
- 4:29every month always has a plan. Every month always has things to
- 4:33do. And some of them are repetitive.
- 4:35I used to love when she would talk about how at in the spring,
- 4:38this is when you clean up for this.
- 4:39And you know, in the fall, this is when you do this very
- 4:42fascinating, very cool. And I completely concur.
- 4:47It helps a lot. And when you recognize it and
- 4:50tie it all into nature and life, you start to feel a lot more
- 4:55calm, a lot more present. And that's what this is about.
- 4:58That's what I would always hope for you and wish for all of you
- 5:02and intend for all of you that everything that all this work
- 5:05that we do everyday is to help you settle down, feel more
- 5:09complete, feel more positive, feel more intentional and calm
- 5:14in the process of it all. Because you know, it's an
- 5:16ongoing process and there's always a new beginning.
- 5:20You know, the next moment is a brand new beginning.
- 5:22As soon as you close your eyes, guys, it's a brand new
- 5:24beginning. As long as you're willing to do
- 5:27the work, it can be. So I hope that you guys have a
- 5:30blessed day. I hope this was helpful and I
- 5:32will see you tomorrow. Bye.
