- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, this is Freddy Rodriguez. Hey, this is Wilmer Valderrama.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And you. And today, on Dos Amigos, we are talking
- 0:21Speaker 1: about superstitions, premonitions, perhaps predictions, and maybe predicamentions. Oh, that
- 0:31Speaker 1: didn't rhyme. That one didn't rhyme. The last one didn't rhyme.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Welcome to those amigos. Thank you for watching or listening.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We really appreciate you being here. Today we have a
- 0:44Speaker 1: very special episode, as you just kind of pre-heard. We're
- 0:47Speaker 1: going to talk about some, you know, some of those
- 0:50Speaker 1: things that some of us don't admit to others because
- 0:53Speaker 1: we don't want to look like we're crazy. Right. Do
- 0:55Speaker 1: you have superstitions?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I'm not quite sure if I do. I'm not sure.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Like question, like if you're driving down the road and
- 1:04Speaker 1: a black cat crosses the street, are you like, I
- 1:08Speaker 1: got to turn around? No. Ask me. Hey, Wilmer. Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Do you have any superstitions? I do. Is that right?
- 1:16Speaker 1: I would make a U-turn. So a cat, it's on
- 1:20Speaker 1: the top of your list. I see a cat in
- 1:22Speaker 1: the middle of the night, black cat. Yeah. Nope. Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Not taking any chances.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 1: On a cat? Yeah. Specifically? Yeah. Really? Huh. Yeah. Why
- 1:32Speaker 1: is that? I heard it when I was a kid.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So you applied it. Again, this is like kind of
- 1:38Speaker 1: the full circle, right? Like how much of the superstitions
- 1:41Speaker 1: were passed down to you?
- 1:42Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Like did it ever occur? Like did you drive through
- 1:46Speaker 1: a road with a black cat crossing the street and
- 1:49Speaker 1: then actually something bad happened? Yeah. Right? Like probably not.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Probably never. But like how much is superstition something you inherit? Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But do you think something like that was an American
- 2:01Speaker 2: superstition that you saw on TV and you applied it?
- 2:05Speaker 1: For sure. Or was it culturally relevant to you being in? No,
- 2:10Speaker 1: because it's weird because black cats are like a sign
- 2:13Speaker 1: of good luck in Latin America. If you see a
- 2:15Speaker 1: black cat somewhere, you're like, same thing if you see
- 2:17Speaker 1: an owl, you're like, oh, you're going to receive good news.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Right? But like, what were some that were really, that
- 2:25Speaker 1: you remember as a kid over where you grew up? Terpestations,
- 2:30Speaker 1: like Latin America terpestations? But that's very specific to Venezuela.
- 2:39Speaker 1: There was, like when, you know, they call them los llanos, right?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Los llanos are this high grass, right? Well, that's not
- 2:48Speaker 1: what it is. The llanos is like plains of like green, right?
- 2:52Speaker 1: But there's these high bushes, right? Just like do this
- 2:56Speaker 1: and then make like a wide noise.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And it's sad that when the bushes stop moving and
- 3:03Speaker 1: they're not making a noise anymore, because they're so light,
- 3:06Speaker 1: they catch air very easily and they're always moving. When
- 3:09Speaker 1: they're not moving, it's because something bad's about to happen.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So that's a random one, because if you live by
- 3:17Speaker 1: the farms or whatever, you kind of pay attention to
- 3:19Speaker 1: the wind, you pay attention to the stuff, you know.
- 3:23Speaker 1: The almonds, too, like when you see certain animals show
- 3:26Speaker 1: up to your house, you're like, what's going on? Like
- 3:29Speaker 1: black crows. Crows, yeah. The crows roll up to your
- 3:31Speaker 1: house and they just like park right there and they're
- 3:33Speaker 1: just watching you. Sometimes they'll stay there for like a
- 3:36Speaker 1: day or two. Yeah. They just haven't left. Sometimes those
- 3:40Speaker 1: are kind of like weird moments, you know? Yeah, yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Do you have one?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Remember when we were kids? Like, did your mom ever
- 3:48Speaker 2: have the mal de ojo like that?
- 3:50Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, of course.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Right?
- 3:51Speaker 1: That's right. The mal de ojo is the... Yeah. How
- 3:55Speaker 1: do you call that? Like the evil eye. Evil eye.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It's like the blue eye with the white and like
- 4:00Speaker 1: you put it in a necklace and stuff. And it's
- 4:02Speaker 1: supposed to like repel bad wishes and bad intentions from people.
- 4:06Speaker 1: But they would give that to like babies when they
- 4:09Speaker 1: were born. I remember when I was a kid. To
- 4:10Speaker 1: protect them from like demons trying to take them over. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: like a bracelet. But you know what's crazy? I'm glad
- 4:15Speaker 1: you bring that up, Shaybro, because I'm going to tell
- 4:17Speaker 1: you something. Growing up in Latin America, two things you
- 4:21Speaker 1: had to really do. You had to be baptized right away. Right.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Because if you weren't, you were up for grabs. You
- 4:28Speaker 1: were up for grabs for either the devil or Jesus. Right?
- 4:33Speaker 1: So in order to protect him, you had to, you know, baptize. Right, right. Yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 1: according to the Catholic. I mean, there's a lot of
- 4:38Speaker 1: these things that you had to do to reassure that
- 4:40Speaker 1: your life was going to be blessed and that you
- 4:43Speaker 1: can live. Were you baptized? No, you don't have to
- 4:48Speaker 1: say it if not. I was baptized. Yeah, okay. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: was baptized. I was too. And I loved it. You
- 4:58Speaker 1: remember it? You remember being too much? Actually, to be honest,
- 5:03Speaker 1: if I can bring up some funny baptized memories. I'm
- 5:09Speaker 1: a devoted guy, right? I'm a very spiritual man, right?
- 5:12Speaker 1: I don't go to church every Sunday, but I speak
- 5:14Speaker 1: to God every single, all day, every day. Sure, sure, same.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And I had made a promise, right? That if something
- 5:25Speaker 1: happened that I was really working hard to do, that
- 5:28Speaker 1: I would travel all the way to Paris. I would
- 5:31Speaker 1: take the train all the way to the Grotta, which
- 5:37Speaker 1: is the, you know, the Virgin of Lourdes, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: has a chapel in a town called Lourdes.
- 5:45Speaker 3: And.
- 5:46Speaker 1: In France? In France.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It's about six hours south of Paris by train. And
- 5:52Speaker 1: it's a small little town. The entire town is about this...
- 5:57Speaker 1: You know, this church, this chapel, this place. And it
- 6:02Speaker 1: said that the Virgin of Lourdes had appeared on this rock. Right.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So they build everything around it. The water that kind
- 6:09Speaker 1: of drips from the spring, you know, it's holy water
- 6:13Speaker 1: and the whole thing. And when you go there, you
- 6:16Speaker 1: see people from around the world in wheelchairs. You have them,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you know, they're coming in in full hospital beds, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and they're looking for the miracle, you know. In that
- 6:26Speaker 1: same complex, they have an area where you could get baptized,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know? And I have such an interesting story about
- 6:33Speaker 1: this because something that I really wanted happened. And I
- 6:36Speaker 1: went to pay my promise. You went? Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I went to Paris. And, of course, I was, I
- 6:43Speaker 1: think it was in my late 20s or something.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I forget.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Were you in Paris for that or were you in Paris? Well,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I was on a European tour.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And so I went down to Paris while I was
- 6:54Speaker 1: there in Europe to go down and do the promise.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And the promise is that you would go, bring flowers
- 7:00Speaker 1: and light a candle. Yeah. You know? And I'm at
- 7:04Speaker 1: this nightclub in Paris.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Right?
- 7:08Speaker 1: And this is like when you talk about you believe
- 7:10Speaker 1: in this stuff, you believe in serendipity and all those
- 7:12Speaker 1: different things. Yeah. I'm in this club in Paris, and
- 7:17Speaker 1: I'm at the DJ booth. And while I'm at the
- 7:19Speaker 1: DJ booth, of course, I'm like, oh, oui, oui, oui.
- 7:22Speaker 1: You know, like I'm speaking French. And what are you?
- 7:27Speaker 1: What do you mean? Oui, oui. Play this song for me. And,
- 7:31Speaker 1: you know, so obviously I'm commuting with the locals because
- 7:34Speaker 1: I love French people. Yeah. And I'm in this DJ booth.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm sure that went over really well. Oh, yeah. They
- 7:38Speaker 1: love it when you try. Yeah, yeah. So we're in
- 7:43Speaker 1: the DJ booth. And I'm talking to my friends. I
- 7:46Speaker 1: have some friends in Paris. And, you know, we're playing around.
- 7:49Speaker 1: There's music and stuff, whatever. And then there's these two
- 7:54Speaker 1: super cool, super cool girls who just happened to be there.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And they had an accident. And I was like, where
- 8:00Speaker 1: are you two from? And they said, we're from Spain.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And I said, oh, my God, you're from Spain? That's amazing.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I've never been to Spain. And we talked about it
- 8:08Speaker 1: and all that stuff. And this is like now 3
- 8:12Speaker 1: in the morning. And.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I looked at her and was like, so what do
- 8:17Speaker 1: you guys have to do out here? Well, we came
- 8:19Speaker 1: here because we're going to pay a promise. I said, what?
- 8:23Speaker 1: I said, we're going to pay a promise. We're going
- 8:26Speaker 1: to see La Urdes. When? She said, tomorrow. I said,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I'm going to La Urdes. How random it is that
- 8:37Speaker 1: I could be at a nightclub and all of a
- 8:38Speaker 1: sudden I just found, I'm out there by myself. How
- 8:40Speaker 1: can I do this thing by myself? Yeah. She said,
- 8:43Speaker 1: when are you going? I was like, I was going
- 8:44Speaker 1: to just go after this. I was going to go
- 8:46Speaker 1: to the train station, jump on the 6 o'clock, and
- 8:48Speaker 1: just sleep all the way there. Yes. Train from the
- 8:51Speaker 1: club to go see... Yeah, to be my holy self. Absolutely, yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Also to thank Lourdes for this moment of fun and euphoria.
- 9:02Speaker 1: While you're sweating out the vodka. Yes, yes, of course.
- 9:05Speaker 1: You know, I just needed to celebrate the fact that
- 9:07Speaker 1: I was going to go pay this. So, anyways... All
- 9:12Speaker 1: three of us agreed. We're like, let's go together. Oh, yeah. And, bro,
- 9:17Speaker 1: those girls were so nice, so kind. Their story was
- 9:23Speaker 1: that one of their family members was suffering from cancer. Oh, right.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And that she was cancer-free. And they made this promise
- 9:29Speaker 1: to Louis. If she was cancer-free, they were going to
- 9:30Speaker 1: come and see her and pay their respects. And I said, wow,
- 9:33Speaker 1: that's amazing. And we took this train for like six hours.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And it was just the three of us. You know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: in this train and we all slept for a couple hours.
- 9:44Speaker 1: We talked more. We got to know each other. We
- 9:46Speaker 1: got to the town and it was, you could feel
- 9:52Speaker 1: like the energy. There's something about this town that has
- 9:55Speaker 1: seen miracles, people from around the world. Like it's just.
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know, and they have the little stops where you
- 10:01Speaker 1: can get the laura, this magnet and the whole thing,
- 10:04Speaker 1: you know. We get there and we kind of divide
- 10:08Speaker 1: and conquer. They go off and do their thing that
- 10:09Speaker 1: they promised. And I bring my white flowers and I
- 10:12Speaker 1: light my candle. And while I was there, I was like, oh,
- 10:16Speaker 1: what is this line for? He goes, oh, it's for baptize.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And they said, by the way, my auntie from Spain,
- 10:23Speaker 1: she's like, when you go there, she's like, they've said
- 10:26Speaker 1: that when you get baptized there, when you come out
- 10:29Speaker 1: of the water, you're dry. And I said. Literally. Yes.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I said, oh, that's crazy. That's cool. Well, see, I'll
- 10:38Speaker 1: tell you. I'm just going to go ahead and do it. Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So I went in there. With all your clothes? Well,
- 10:44Speaker 1: they give you, you take your clothes off, and then
- 10:47Speaker 1: they give you like a sheet and all that thing.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And I go in there, you know, I pray the
- 10:56Speaker 1: thing that's on the wall. There's like a prayer and
- 10:58Speaker 1: all that stuff. And then they submerged me. And when
- 11:01Speaker 1: I come up, on my mother, dude, my skin was dry.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Was your hair dry? Yeah. My hair was dry. Like,
- 11:11Speaker 1: like it is now. Yes. Like it just like the
- 11:13Speaker 1: water just repelled off of my hair. Like my, my
- 11:16Speaker 1: hair was underwater and it repelled off and it was
- 11:18Speaker 1: dry again. And I was like, okay, a couple of
- 11:20Speaker 1: little misters here and then whatever. Like I filled it
- 11:22Speaker 1: a couple of drops of water, but I was like dry.
- 11:24Speaker 1: The sheet was wet, but my body was dry. Wow.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And I was like, well, this is crazy. So maybe
- 11:31Speaker 1: it has something to do with the minerals in the water.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Maybe like the, I don't know. Maybe something to do
- 11:36Speaker 1: with that. Who knows? Okay. vodka oh yeah.
- 11:40Speaker 2: The vodka wasn't the vodka you were sweating like i
- 11:43Speaker 2: was sweating out he rejected the water.
- 11:45Speaker 5: He rejected the water he kept you dry anyhow and
- 11:51Speaker 5: it was one of the most like um special experiences
- 11:54Speaker 5: and then yeah the two of us got back on
- 11:57Speaker 5: the train we got to paris um they went that
- 12:01Speaker 5: way i went this way and we never we never
- 12:04Speaker 5: talked to each other ever again we never see each other.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Never talked and never like reconnected again. That was a
- 12:10Speaker 1: moment that these two strangers and I had together and
- 12:13Speaker 1: for the rest of our lives. And we never reconvened
- 12:16Speaker 1: and we never reconnected on that.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Wow.
- 12:18Speaker 1: So I believe in the respect we have to have
- 12:22Speaker 1: for the spirit, you know? So when you think about,
- 12:25Speaker 1: you know, premonitions and when you think about, you know,
- 12:29Speaker 1: predictions and like visions or whatever, do you think it
- 12:34Speaker 1: could be echoes of from either the future or the
- 12:38Speaker 1: past that are warning you about things? Like, can you believe,
- 12:40Speaker 1: if you believe in the Holy Spirit, you believe in spirituality. Yeah,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I do. Why is that, why is that portal not
- 12:46Speaker 1: possibly open to kind of also think that that could happen?
- 12:49Speaker 2: I believe, I mean, you know, if we're going to
- 12:51Speaker 2: get deep in a deeper spiritual conversation, you know, those
- 12:56Speaker 2: two girls could have been like angels, you know.
- 12:59Speaker 1: They're shepherding me to go there. Yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Because the thing about what you ultimately did It's one
- 13:06Speaker 2: thing to get baptized when you're born, right, because your parents,
- 13:09Speaker 2: it's Catholic tradition and stuff, you know. It's another thing
- 13:11Speaker 2: to get baptized as an adult because you're making a
- 13:14Speaker 2: conscious decision to allow Christ into your life, you know,
- 13:18Speaker 2: and to accept him as your Lord and Savior.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Right. So it's a different thing.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And so maybe that's why those angels were there to
- 13:25Speaker 2: guide you.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I believe it. I believe it. And
- 13:28Speaker 1: who knew that angels liked club and party?
- 13:32Speaker 3: Hey, hey.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Listen, as long as the goal at the end is reached, right?
- 13:39Speaker 1: You know, they appear in clubs. They appear in wherever. Yeah,
- 13:42Speaker 1: like City of Angels with Nicolas Cage. Oh, great film.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I like that movie. Fucking love that movie so much. Yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 1: me too. Meg Ryan. Goo Goo Dolls. Yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Remember that?
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah. I remember the Goo Goo Dolls too. Yeah. They
- 13:57Speaker 1: felt like they were spirits too.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Yeah, what a great song. They came from beyond.
- 14:02Speaker 2: But other than that, I don't know if I have
- 14:05Speaker 2: any superstitions or anything. I think a lot of what
- 14:09Speaker 2: I believe is very spiritually based, as opposed to a
- 14:15Speaker 2: superstition or anything like that. I believe that those two
- 14:19Speaker 2: people might have been put there for that reason.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I never did the math on that. I never thought
- 14:25Speaker 1: about it that way. But now that you say it,
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'm having this incredible revelation where it could have been.
- 14:33Speaker 1: It could have been. It could have been.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of stuff that happens in your life
- 14:36Speaker 2: is like that. I don't know if you've ever had
- 14:39Speaker 2: near-death experiences. I haven't had one.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Have you? Oh, many. Yeah, yeah. Growing up in Chicago in.
- 14:44Speaker 2: The 80s and 90s, it's just part of your childhood
- 14:47Speaker 2: as you're growing up. I think I might have told
- 14:50Speaker 2: this story before. I remember one time I had this
- 15:05Speaker 2: really strong dream. I was a senior in high school
- 15:10Speaker 2: and I must have been about 18, 17. And I
- 15:14Speaker 2: was a part of the underground hip hop scene in Chicago.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And so it was like Kanye West and Common. And
- 15:20Speaker 2: I knew all those dudes when we were all kids.
- 15:23Speaker 2: And we were going to go to the South Side
- 15:25Speaker 2: to go see Common perform. So I was 17. Common
- 15:28Speaker 2: was like, what, 21, 22. We were all really, really young. And, uh, and, and, and,
- 15:34Speaker 2: you know, there.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Are certain parts of the South side of Chicago that's
- 15:38Speaker 1: pretty violent.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And that night I had this really strong dream that
- 15:41Speaker 2: something had happened to me and, and all, all, all
- 15:45Speaker 2: through that day at school, I just kept feeling like
- 15:48Speaker 2: something was going to happen. And, and, and because I
- 15:51Speaker 2: had this dream, my senses were so much more heightened.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And we got to.
- 15:55Speaker 2: This, we got the common show and the big fight
- 15:58Speaker 2: broke out and, This car almost ran my friend over,
- 16:01Speaker 2: but because my senses were so heightened, I was able
- 16:04Speaker 2: to be on top of it before the car ran
- 16:06Speaker 2: him over, and I saved his life.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah, yeah, stuff like that, you know.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I remember one time, like, when I was dating Elsie,
- 16:14Speaker 2: she lived in a couple of neighborhoods over, and it
- 16:19Speaker 2: was just a lot of gangs, a lot of stuff
- 16:20Speaker 2: where I grew up, and my father had this gut
- 16:23Speaker 2: instinct that day, and he was like, don't go visit
- 16:26Speaker 2: her today, and he made me promise him that I wouldn't,
- 16:29Speaker 2: And I did anyway. And on my way back, as
- 16:33Speaker 2: I was walking down the street, there was like police
- 16:36Speaker 2: tape and someone had gotten shot and my father had
- 16:39Speaker 2: just felt it.
- 16:40Speaker 1: And as I'm looking at the blood on the floor,
- 16:43Speaker 1: it was almost like a movie.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It's like, I felt something and like my eyes panned
- 16:47Speaker 2: up and I saw my dad across the, across the,
- 16:51Speaker 2: on the other side of like the police.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Tape, just like staring at me like, you bastard, I
- 16:55Speaker 1: told you not to go. He gave me one of these, like,
- 16:58Speaker 1: get your butt over here, you know? But I had
- 17:01Speaker 1: to go see my wife, right? We were dating and
- 17:03Speaker 1: all that.
- 17:04Speaker 2: But just stuff like that. I've always had really, really
- 17:06Speaker 2: strong instincts. I think that comes from growing up in Chicago.
- 17:11Speaker 2: You have this spidey sense for danger. I'm really good
- 17:15Speaker 2: at walking into a room, and if something doesn't feel right,
- 17:18Speaker 2: I can feel it right away. I can be around
- 17:20Speaker 2: people and feel their energy.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Have you ever had a dream come true? A literal
- 17:27Speaker 1: dream come true? Yeah. Well, like, you went to sleep,
- 17:32Speaker 1: you saw something, and then the next day.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I just remember before, like, my mom passed, like, I
- 17:37Speaker 2: had a dream that my dad came in my dream,
- 17:40Speaker 2: and he sort of, like, and I woke up, and
- 17:42Speaker 2: I was like, oh, man, my mom's time is limited.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Like, dad came in my dream, you know. Stuff like that.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Like, I don't know if he literally was like, your
- 17:51Speaker 2: mom's going to pass, but, like, I just remember feeling
- 17:54Speaker 2: that in a dream.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Yeah. I have really strong instincts like that.
- 17:58Speaker 1: That's crazy. Really strong. You're very in tune. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 2: And so it's a gift and a curse at the
- 18:04Speaker 2: same time because I've literally walked into places and I've
- 18:07Speaker 2: been like, nah, I don't like.
- 18:08Speaker 1: The energy in here.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I'm out and I'll leave. I'll be around people. I'm like,
- 18:12Speaker 2: I don't like that guy's energy and I'll leave, you know?
- 18:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I remember when I first started dating Elsie, when I
- 18:19Speaker 2: was like 15, 16, I was like, yeah, I'm.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Going to marry her. And it wasn't like, oh, puppy love,
- 18:25Speaker 1: I'm going to marry you. It was just that matter
- 18:27Speaker 1: of fact. That's the plan. It's like, yeah, yeah, I'm
- 18:29Speaker 1: going to marry her. It's just my gut.
- 18:32Speaker 2: When I started acting when I was 13, I was like, yeah,
- 18:34Speaker 2: that's what I'm going to do for the rest of
- 18:35Speaker 2: my life.
- 18:36Speaker 1: It wasn't like, oh, I'm going to be a movie star.
- 18:39Speaker 1: It was just that matter of fact. It was like
- 18:42Speaker 1: my gut was like, yeah, this is what I'm going
- 18:43Speaker 1: to do. So certain. Yeah. The house I live in now,
- 18:46Speaker 1: near here, I walked in there in the first 10 seconds.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I'm going to buy this house.
- 18:49Speaker 1: This is it. It's like that. It's like that matter
- 18:53Speaker 1: of fact. Like my instincts, yeah. That's crazy, man. That's
- 18:59Speaker 1: amazing that you can have that. I had a dream
- 19:01Speaker 1: come true. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Tell me about that.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Were you here? Like lit. Like a literal dream come true? Yes,
- 19:11Speaker 1: you are. Yeah, yeah. You are quite literally my dream
- 19:15Speaker 1: come true.
- 19:15Speaker 2: You were like me and Freddie doing a podcast after
- 19:18Speaker 2: one of our crazy dinners.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I was sleeping like this. I'm like... We had microphones
- 19:25Speaker 1: and we were sitting on the same couch and we just... Yeah, yeah.
- 19:29Speaker 1: We've had like 80 conversations about so many things.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Like our dinners. But no, I've had like moments where...
- 19:35Speaker 1: I've had moments where A version of the dream, like,
- 19:40Speaker 1: comes true, right? Like, it's like, maybe the car wasn't white,
- 19:44Speaker 1: but the car was black type of thing, right? Like, there's, like,
- 19:46Speaker 1: things about the dream that's just different, but you kind
- 19:48Speaker 1: of clock it as something different. What was it? The
- 19:55Speaker 1: dream was, I was on a trip and sometimes it
- 19:59Speaker 1: feels like you dream a blip forward. Sometimes like you
- 20:05Speaker 1: feel like, it feels like you're dreaming and within the dream,
- 20:10Speaker 1: It's the same day. And so I was in, I
- 20:14Speaker 1: think I was, where was I? I was in Europe.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I think I was in, I think I was in Stockholm.
- 20:21Speaker 1: And I had just taken this walk. And, you know,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I remember the fog had fallen down a little bit.
- 20:28Speaker 1: The lights were, you know, looking like, like beautiful in
- 20:31Speaker 1: the cobblestones and like the canal. And I'm like, this
- 20:35Speaker 1: looked like a movie and Dracula, you know, it was beautiful. And,
- 20:39Speaker 1: you know, everything was happening, blah, blah, blah. And so
- 20:44Speaker 1: I went to sleep that night. And somehow in my dream,
- 20:48Speaker 1: I'm back at that walk. And then somebody like, hey, Will.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And I turn around and there was no one there.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So it's like I woke up and like that was random,
- 21:00Speaker 1: you know. Hey, Will. And I turn around and like
- 21:03Speaker 1: there was no one there to call me. It wasn't weird.
- 21:05Speaker 1: It wasn't like creepy. It was just weird. The next night,
- 21:09Speaker 1: I took a different walk to a different restaurant in
- 21:11Speaker 1: the same kind of area. And somebody said, hey, Will. And, bro,
- 21:16Speaker 1: I turned around. It was a friend of mine who
- 21:17Speaker 1: happened to be in the same hotel room, in the
- 21:19Speaker 1: same hotel room, in the same hotel. And he was like, bro,
- 21:22Speaker 1: when did you get here? And I was like, what
- 21:24Speaker 1: are you doing? Like, it was just such a random.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And not until, like, later in the dinner, after I
- 21:29Speaker 1: had already said goodbye to my friend, where I was like, wait,
- 21:34Speaker 1: did I dream? Did I just, like, have a dream? Like,
- 21:37Speaker 1: was it a deja vu? Did I hurt him in
- 21:40Speaker 1: my brain? I hurt him again. Did it happen at
- 21:43Speaker 1: some instant? Did it happen last night? It was like,
- 21:45Speaker 1: I couldn't explain it. But it was this random weird blip. Yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you knew your bud was going to be there. Huh.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know if I ever had anything as
- 21:54Speaker 2: literal as that.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I mean, that's like to the call and everything. I mean,
- 22:00Speaker 1: that's crazy. But there was no one in my dream.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I turned around and there was no one there.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I remember before my dad died, I had a, I
- 22:08Speaker 2: had a couple of dreams where I was like, oh, something.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Bad is coming, you know. Elsie's like that, too. She's really,
- 22:16Speaker 1: she dreams, she has this dream that her teeth are
- 22:20Speaker 1: falling out. Oh, yeah. What does that mean? What does
- 22:24Speaker 1: that mean, guys?
- 22:25Speaker 2: To her, it means that someone's, something's bad, something bad
- 22:29Speaker 2: is coming or someone's going to die.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But there's like levels to it. Yeah. If you're. Teeth
- 22:34Speaker 1: are falling off is one thing, but if your teeth
- 22:37Speaker 1: are rotten and falling off is another thing. If your
- 22:40Speaker 1: teeth all of a sudden are a different color is
- 22:42Speaker 1: another thing. There's levels to that one.
- 22:45Speaker 2: She's never gotten that detailed. There's times she wakes up
- 22:49Speaker 2: and I can just see it in her face. I'm like,
- 22:51Speaker 2: did you have that dream? She was like, yeah, something's
- 22:52Speaker 2: going to happen. And man, lo and behold, something always
- 22:56Speaker 2: freaking happens. Like right before her dad passed, she had
- 22:59Speaker 2: that dream before my mom, before my dad. Like she always,
- 23:03Speaker 2: that's why when she has it, I'm like, oh no,
- 23:05Speaker 2: something bad is coming.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Because usually it does. Leo, what does it mean? Leo Orsoff,
- 23:11Speaker 1: who looked it up?
- 23:12Speaker 3: The most common interpretations for dreaming about your teeth include
- 23:16Speaker 3: recent loss or grief, jealousy, increased stress or anxiety. lack
- 23:20Speaker 3: of control, big life changes, depression, insecurity or shame, health-related fears,
- 23:27Speaker 3: or real-life dental issues.
- 23:29Speaker 1: So pretty much everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 2: No, for her specifically, it's like a death or something bad. Yeah,
- 23:38Speaker 2: but she's really strong in that. She's always been like that.
- 23:41Speaker 1: What does it mean when a hawk or an eagle
- 23:47Speaker 1: continuously appears in your property?
- 23:50Speaker 4: I'm curious about this too.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Because... A hawk or an eel? I have a resident
- 23:56Speaker 1: hawk that's like always watching me in my office and
- 23:59Speaker 1: in my gym every morning. Huh. Yeah. Have you looked
- 24:05Speaker 1: it up?
- 24:06Speaker 4: I looked it up last week and actually sent it
- 24:08Speaker 4: to my mom and partner because I have had the
- 24:13Speaker 4: same hawk showing up at my house, which happens to
- 24:16Speaker 4: be a Cooper's hawk.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Oh, cool.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Which is eponymous, if you will.
- 24:20Speaker 1: For those listening right now, Cooper is our producer and
- 24:24Speaker 1: showrunner of Dos Amigos and shares the name with the hawk.
- 24:30Speaker 1: With the hawk, yes. Okay.
- 24:31Speaker 4: It says that their core spiritual meanings are higher perspective,
- 24:37Speaker 4: focus and clarity, trusting your intuition.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:43Speaker 4: And then with their circling overhead, it's an indication that
- 24:47Speaker 4: a question or transition in your life is unfolding.
- 24:51Speaker 1: So wait, Cooper. So if they're watching you, what does
- 24:55Speaker 1: it mean?
- 24:56Speaker 4: That's an indication of a question or a transition in
- 25:00Speaker 4: your own life unfolding. And it's asking you for patience
- 25:04Speaker 4: and to take a broader view of that before acting.
- 25:06Speaker 1: It's asking you for patience. Just take a beat. Take
- 25:10Speaker 1: a beat. Sit in your hands. Really think about it.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Wow. That's so much. Trust in the Lord. What
- 25:17Speaker 1: about an owl? Because I keep having owls in this
- 25:21Speaker 1: property come all the time. I had a white owl
- 25:24Speaker 1: the other day and had a brown one the other day. Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Every night, like. Yeah, yeah. We have one in our
- 25:31Speaker 1: neighborhood also. But I mean, consistently in this, like when
- 25:35Speaker 1: I walk from here to here at nighttime, an owl.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And always clocks your, whenever you're walking. I'm like. Yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 1: And then they're like.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:46Speaker 1: And then I'm like. And then he was like. I
- 25:50Speaker 1: was like, all right. Yeah. And then he was like,
- 25:52Speaker 1: we were like, sorry, I'll see you tomorrow. Yeah. We'll
- 25:58Speaker 1: continue this conversation later. Leo.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 26:04Speaker 3: It usually means there's a nearby food source, like, Mice.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Shut up. Shut up.
- 26:10Speaker 5: I hate him.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I hate him. He's like, whoa, what's up, man? He's kidding.
- 26:14Speaker 1: He's making us look stupid over here. Where are your
- 26:16Speaker 1: mice at? He's probably looking for food. That's what he's
- 26:20Speaker 1: asking you for.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Thank you, Leo.
- 26:22Speaker 1: It's similar to a hawk. Intuition and wisdom. Yeah. Transformations.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Because owls hunt in the dark and move quietly, they
- 26:29Speaker 3: have to represent navigating changes, endings, or new phases of life.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Ancient Greeks associated owls with Athena and wisdom. and other
- 26:38Speaker 3: historical regional beliefs. I view them directly ranging from protective
- 26:42Speaker 3: guides to traditional omens.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Okay, so that moves us into omens. I need to
- 26:49Speaker 1: bring up a thing, and this has to do with
- 26:52Speaker 1: my daughter Nakano. Yeah. So this story is a little crazy,
- 26:58Speaker 1: but just bear with me here. When Amanda and I
- 27:03Speaker 1: were dating, we took a trip with a few friends to... Japan.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And we fell in love with that trip. It was,
- 27:10Speaker 1: it was just amazing. And we had a great time.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I personally love Japanese culture, Asian culture in general, but
- 27:17Speaker 1: I love, I love Japanese culture very much so. And
- 27:21Speaker 1: so I'm always been fascinated by how long they've been
- 27:24Speaker 1: doing this, you know, by their, their, their, their level of,
- 27:29Speaker 1: excuse me, respect to honor and all that, you know?
- 27:31Speaker 1: So I just, I just love their traditional stuff. And,
- 27:37Speaker 1: That's the place that Amanda and I said I love
- 27:39Speaker 1: you to each other for the first time. Oh, nice.
- 27:41Speaker 1: That's when we asked each other, like, what do we
- 27:42Speaker 1: want with one another? Because it's not a boyfriend and
- 27:45Speaker 1: girlfriend thing. We realized that what we wanted with each
- 27:48Speaker 1: other was a family, you know? So later, when eventually
- 27:53Speaker 1: she was expecting Nakano, we had a conversation. What is
- 27:57Speaker 1: her name? What do we do the name? Like, what's
- 27:59Speaker 1: the name? And we said, like, you know, we did
- 28:03Speaker 1: names from, like, everywhere. Obviously, of course, everybody does names.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Greek mythology and all that stuff, you know, like what
- 28:08Speaker 1: do these names mean? Powerful names. And we wanted to
- 28:10Speaker 1: give her something that was like a conversation starter, you know,
- 28:13Speaker 1: and also like an icebreaker, but also a level of strength. Yeah.
- 28:17Speaker 1: So we went back to Japan, you know, in our
- 28:21Speaker 1: conversations and we said, what if we named her after
- 28:26Speaker 1: something that's in Japan, which was the place that she
- 28:29Speaker 1: became a possibility, right? And so we landed on this
- 28:36Speaker 1: woman named Takeko Nakano. Takeko Nakano was one of the
- 28:40Speaker 1: highest ranking generals of the Japanese army. She was also, um,
- 28:46Speaker 1: she was also like just one of the most legendaries, uh, Anabugesha,
- 28:49Speaker 1: which Anabugesha means female warrior, which is really like a
- 28:53Speaker 1: female samurai. She's just like an all around badass. And
- 28:55Speaker 1: there's schools named after her and all that. And, but
- 28:58Speaker 1: I heard Takeko before. A lot, a lot of Takekos in,
- 29:01Speaker 1: in in Japan, and I'm sorry, in Hawaii and all
- 29:05Speaker 1: that stuff. But Nakano felt so interesting to me. It
- 29:09Speaker 1: felt so strong and unique and different. Amanda took a
- 29:14Speaker 1: little convincing, but then we're like, okay, fine. Our family
- 29:18Speaker 1: was like, what are you doing to this child? It
- 29:21Speaker 1: sounds like a boy's name at first, right? Nakano? But
- 29:24Speaker 1: I'm like, it felt great. It felt great. Anyway, so...
- 29:31Speaker 1: Amanda was due on February 15th. And we're like, no
- 29:36Speaker 1: freaking way. No freaking way that an account is born on.
- 29:40Speaker 1: on February 15th. And I'll tell you why that's significant
- 29:43Speaker 1: in a minute. But, you know, so we go to the,
- 29:46Speaker 1: you know, she's giving birth at Cedars-Sinai. So we went
- 29:50Speaker 1: for a checkup, you know. And two days before... Her
- 29:57Speaker 1: due date, Amanda has some friends over and she had
- 30:00Speaker 1: a little like blessing, you know, little meeting. Just getting
- 30:04Speaker 1: herself mentally and spiritually ready and all that. And this
- 30:08Speaker 1: beautiful white crane showed up to the house. Here? No,
- 30:14Speaker 1: like I've been here, dude, for 26 years. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I have never seen this bird here in my life. Huh. Never. Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 1: The bird was maybe like three feet tall. It was
- 30:25Speaker 1: like so tall, white, long, and just walking in the back,
- 30:32Speaker 1: just walking just up the hill and back and down
- 30:35Speaker 1: in the parking lot. And they're like, what the hell?
- 30:39Speaker 1: And we didn't know what it meant, you know, but
- 30:40Speaker 1: it was like, why is this bird here? And for
- 30:43Speaker 1: two days straight, the bird was like standing on top
- 30:46Speaker 1: of the car, just like watching Amanda doing her little
- 30:49Speaker 1: ritual with her friends and stuff. And we're like, we
- 30:55Speaker 1: don't know what it means, but this has got to
- 30:57Speaker 1: be some kind of almond or something interesting, you know? Yeah.
- 31:02Speaker 1: And so we have our last Valentine's Day together as
- 31:07Speaker 1: just the two of us. That night at 143, which
- 31:10Speaker 1: if anybody remembers having a pager or a beeper, 143
- 31:14Speaker 1: means I love you. Yeah. I'm sorry. You did what, 43?
- 31:16Speaker 1: At 143 a.m.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Oh, 143 a.m.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Amanda's water breaks, and we
- 31:24Speaker 1: got to go. Yeah. So we pack our bag, we
- 31:27Speaker 1: do everything and all that stuff, and we just go
- 31:29Speaker 1: to the hospital. And when we go to the hospital,
- 31:31Speaker 1: we take the elevator up to the third floor, which
- 31:33Speaker 1: is where, you know, the delivery floor is. And when
- 31:37Speaker 1: the elevators open, there is ancient Japanese pictures on the walls,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and there is a kimono in a glass case, a
- 31:51Speaker 1: red one.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Beautiful, like this beautiful red outfit. And imprinted in the
- 31:57Speaker 1: red outfit is the white crane. No way. So I
- 32:01Speaker 1: look at Amanda and Amanda's like, what the hell is that?
- 32:04Speaker 1: I'm like, it'll be in Japanese. We just named her Nakano,
- 32:07Speaker 1: like the white crane that we just saw at the house,
- 32:09Speaker 1: which is crazy. So she goes into labor and we're like, man,
- 32:14Speaker 1: we'll see if she's even born during, you know, today. Well,
- 32:18Speaker 1: Nakano is born at 4 or 4 p.m. on February 15,
- 32:22Speaker 1: which was her due date. And Amanda became incredibly emotional,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and so did we, all of us. And we called
- 32:30Speaker 1: all the doctors and nurses, and we said, the reason
- 32:33Speaker 1: why today is so incredibly significant is because today is
- 32:39Speaker 1: Amanda's mother's birthday.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 32:44Speaker 1: No way, man. And for those of you who are
- 32:46Speaker 1: listening and watching, Amanda's mom passed of ovarian cancer. And
- 32:50Speaker 1: February 15 was her birthday. To the fact that Nakano
- 32:55Speaker 1: would be born in her grandma's birthday. Especially because Amanda
- 33:02Speaker 1: didn't have her mom during that time of her pregnancy,
- 33:05Speaker 1: for her first pregnancy, for her first child, her mom
- 33:07Speaker 1: wasn't there. Which is a beautiful bonding moment for a
- 33:10Speaker 1: mother and a daughter to go through together. But when
- 33:14Speaker 1: you do the math of all those things, dude, like
- 33:17Speaker 1: the white crane, the Japanese pictures, the Nakano and like the,
- 33:22Speaker 1: you know, Nakano being born on her grandmother's birthday is,
- 33:26Speaker 1: it's just kind of like, you cannot deny that some
- 33:31Speaker 1: things are written to happen a certain way. So what
- 33:35Speaker 1: is the white crane mean? Cause the white crane, cause
- 33:40Speaker 1: we think it was maybe her mother. coming to see
- 33:44Speaker 1: her through this. Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Especially that you said you've been here so many years.
- 33:52Speaker 1: And you've never seen her. Never been back. Never been back.
- 33:56Speaker 3: White crane in Asian symbolism, longevity, immortality, purity and wisdom,
- 34:03Speaker 3: peace and hope. Also, they're seen as heavenly messengers. Many
- 34:08Speaker 3: traditions view the soaring white crane as a sacred guide
- 34:10Speaker 3: or a messenger bridging the human and spiritual realm.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Come on, dude. There you go.
- 34:15Speaker 2: And aren't cranes, you know, aren't they usually.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Found near water? Yes. Right. So that's why. Like swampy
- 34:22Speaker 1: waters and all that stuff. Like we're in the valley.
- 34:25Speaker 1: We're in the middle of the valley, dude. The closest
- 34:28Speaker 1: would be like Balboa, Lake Balboa. Lake Balboa would probably be.
- 34:32Speaker 1: That's still pretty far off. And remember, this was also COVID.
- 34:35Speaker 1: No one was allowed to go anywhere and all that, so.
- 34:39Speaker 1: That was pretty crazy. But anyways, that's one story I
- 34:43Speaker 1: wanted to share with you and to all of you. Because,
- 34:46Speaker 1: and I haven't really gone in depth. I think what
- 34:48Speaker 1: I did, I might have gone in depth a little
- 34:49Speaker 1: bit during my book. But it's just those moments that
- 34:57Speaker 1: you can't deny there's something else at work.
- 35:00Speaker 2: And you feel it, right? Your gut, you know, your
- 35:02Speaker 2: gut feels it. You're like, yeah, there's something else happening here.
