Speaker 1: Bolgovav Ghita translated by Sir Edwin Arnold introductory note. During
• 0:08
Speaker 1: the centuries in which Buddhism was establishing itself in the
• 0:11
Speaker 1: east of India, the older Brahmanism in the West was
• 0:16
Speaker 1: undergoing the changes which resulted in the Hinduism, which is
• 0:20
Speaker 1: now the prevailing religion of India. The main ancient sources
• 0:24
Speaker 1: of information with regard to these Hindu beliefs and practices
• 0:28
Speaker 1: are the two great epics, the Ramayana and the Maha Brata.
• 0:34
Speaker 1: The former is a highly artificial production based on legend
• 0:38
Speaker 1: and ascribed to one man Vall Mikua. The latter, a
• 0:44
Speaker 1: huge conglomeration of stirring adventure, legend, myth history and superstition,
• 0:52
Speaker 1: is a composite production, begun probably as early as the
• 0:55
Speaker 1: fourth or fifth century before Christ and completed by the
• 0:59
Speaker 1: end of the sixth century of our era. It represents
• 1:03
Speaker 1: many strata of religious belief The Boghavodgita, of which a
• 1:09
Speaker 1: translation is here given, occurs as an episode in the
• 1:13
Speaker 1: Mahabarata and is regarded as one of the gems of
• 1:18
Speaker 1: Hindu literature. The poem is a dialogue between Prince Arjuna,
• 1:24
Speaker 1: the brother of King Yurhistira and Vishnu, the supreme God,
• 1:31
Speaker 1: incarnated as Khrushna and wearing the disguise of a charioteer.
• 1:37
Speaker 1: The conversation takes place in a war chariot stationed between
• 1:41
Speaker 1: the armies of the Kauravas and Bandavas, who are about
• 1:47
Speaker 1: to engage in battle. To the western reader, much of
• 1:52
Speaker 1: the discussion seems childish and illogical, but these elements are
• 1:56
Speaker 1: mingled with passages of undeniable sublimity. Many of the more
• 2:00
Speaker 1: puzzling inconsistencies are due to interpolations by later rewriters. It is,
• 2:07
Speaker 1: says Hopkins, a medley of beliefs as to the relation
• 2:11
Speaker 1: of spirit and matter and other secondary matters. It is
• 2:15
Speaker 1: uncertain in its tone in regard to the comparative efficacy
• 2:19
Speaker 1: of action and inaction, and in regard to the practical
• 2:22
Speaker 1: man's means of salvation. But it is at one with
• 2:26
Speaker 1: itself in its fundamental thesis that all things are each
• 2:30
Speaker 1: a part of one Lord, that men and gods are
• 2:33
Speaker 1: but manifestations of the one divine Spirit. End of introductory note,
• 2:41
Speaker 1: Chapter one. Arjuna Vishad Territrashtra ranged thus for battle on
• 2:50
Speaker 1: the sacred plane on karuk Schittra, say, Sanjaya, say what
• 2:56
Speaker 1: wrought my people and the pandavas son Jaya, when he
• 3:02
Speaker 1: beheld the host of pandavas Raja Duryodhana to Drona drew
• 3:10
Speaker 1: and spake these words, Ah Guru, see this line, how
• 3:15
Speaker 1: vast it is of Pandu fighting men in battled by
• 3:19
Speaker 1: the son of Drupada, thy scholar in the war. Therein
• 3:23
Speaker 1: stands ranked chiefs like Arjuna, like to Bima chiefs, benders
• 3:28
Speaker 1: of bows, Virata Yu Yu dang Drupada eminent upon his car,
• 3:35
Speaker 1: Drishta kate ChEI, Kitan Kasi's stout lord, Purujit Kunti poj
• 3:42
Speaker 1: and Shaivih with udham and Ju and uttam Auj Supadra's
• 3:48
Speaker 1: child and Rao Padis, all famed, all mounted on their
• 3:54
Speaker 1: shining chariots. On our side too, Thou best of Brahmins,
• 4:01
Speaker 1: see excellent chiefs, commanders of my line, whose names I
• 4:05
Speaker 1: joy to count thyself the first. Then Bhishma Karna Kripa
• 4:13
Speaker 1: fierce and fight Vikarna Ashwattaman next to those strong Salmadati
• 4:22
Speaker 1: with full many more valiant and tried, ready this day
• 4:27
Speaker 1: to die for me their king, each with his weapon grasped,
• 4:33
Speaker 1: each skillful in the field weakest meseems. Our battle shows
• 4:40
Speaker 1: where Bhishma holds command and Biemah fronting him, something too strong,
• 4:47
Speaker 1: have care our captain's nigh to Bhishma's ranks, prepare what
• 4:52
Speaker 1: help they may now blow my shell. Then, at the
• 4:57
Speaker 1: signal of the aged king, with blair to wake the
• 5:00
Speaker 1: blood rolling round like to a lion's roar, the trumpeter
• 5:05
Speaker 1: blew the great counch, and at the noise of it,
• 5:09
Speaker 1: trumpets and drums, cymbals and gongs and horns burst into
• 5:13
Speaker 1: sudden clamor as the blasts of loosened tempests such the
• 5:17
Speaker 1: tumult seemed then might be seen upon their car of gold,
• 5:23
Speaker 1: yoked with white steeds, blowing their battle shells. Khrushna, the
• 5:29
Speaker 1: god Arjuna at his side. Khrushna, with knotted locks, blew
• 5:35
Speaker 1: his great counch, carved of the giant's bone, Arjuna blue
• 5:41
Speaker 1: Injure's loud gift. Bima, the terrible wolf bellied Bma blew
• 5:48
Speaker 1: a long reed conch. Yudhishtira, Kunti's blameless son, winded a
• 5:54
Speaker 1: mighty shell. Victory's voice and Nakula blue shrill upon his
• 6:00
Speaker 1: counch named the sweet sounding Sahadev on his called gem bedecked,
• 6:08
Speaker 1: and Kasi's prints on his Sikandi on his car. Drushtadyum
• 6:16
Speaker 1: Vita Sotaki. The unsubdued Durupara with his sons, O Lord
• 6:23
Speaker 1: of Earth long armed. Supadra's children all blew loud, so
• 6:30
Speaker 1: that the clangers shook their foemen's hearts with quaking earth
• 6:34
Speaker 1: and thundering heaven. Then twas beholding dRIT Rashtra's battle set weapons,
• 6:42
Speaker 1: unsheathing bows drawn forth the war instant to break. Arjuna,
• 6:48
Speaker 1: whose ensign badge was Hanuman the Monkey, spake this thing
• 6:53
Speaker 1: to Khrushna the Divine. His charioteer drive dauntless one to
• 7:00
Speaker 1: yonder open ground betwixt the armies. I would see more
• 7:04
Speaker 1: nigh those who will fight with us, those we must
• 7:08
Speaker 1: slay today and wars our bitterment for sure on bloodshed.
• 7:14
Speaker 1: All are bent who thronged this plane obeying Dartarastro's sinful son.
• 7:20
Speaker 1: Thus Barrajuna prayed o barrata between the hosts. That heavenly
• 7:27
Speaker 1: charioteer drove the bright car reining its milk, white steeds,
• 7:32
Speaker 1: where Bhishma led and Drona and their lords see spakey
• 7:39
Speaker 1: t Arjuna, Where they stand thy kindred of the Kurus
• 7:44
Speaker 1: and the prince marked on each hand, the kinsmen of
• 7:47
Speaker 1: his house, grandsires and sires, uncles and brothers and sons,
• 7:54
Speaker 1: cousins and son in law and nephews, mixed with friends
• 7:59
Speaker 1: and honored elders, some this side, some that side, ranged,
• 8:04
Speaker 1: And seeing those opposed such kith grown enemies, Arajuna's heart
• 8:11
Speaker 1: melted with pity while he uttered this Krushna, as I behold,
• 8:18
Speaker 1: come here to shed their common blood yon concourse of
• 8:22
Speaker 1: our kin. My members fail, My tongue dries in my mouth.
• 8:27
Speaker 1: A shudder thrills my body, and my hair bristles with horror.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: From my weak hand slips gondiv the goodly bow. A
• 8:36
Speaker 1: fever burns my skin to parching hardly. May I stand?
• 8:40
Speaker 1: The life within me seems to swim and faint. Nothing
• 8:44
Speaker 1: do I foresee, save woe and wail. It is not good, okay, shove,
• 8:51
Speaker 1: Not of good can spring from mutual slaughter. Lo I
• 8:55
Speaker 1: hate triumph and domination, wealth and ease. Thus save one,
• 9:01
Speaker 1: Oh ho, what victory can bring delight Golvinda. What rich
• 9:06
Speaker 1: spoils could profit, what rule recompense? What span of life
• 9:11
Speaker 1: itself seems sweet bought with such blood? Seeing that these
• 9:16
Speaker 1: stand here ready to die for whose sake life was
• 9:20
Speaker 1: fair and pleasure pleased, and power grew precious grandsires, sires
• 9:27
Speaker 1: and sons, brothers and fathers in law and sons in law,
• 9:33
Speaker 1: elders and friends. Shall I deal death on these, even
• 9:38
Speaker 1: though they seek to slay us? Not one blow? O Madhusudana.
• 9:44
Speaker 1: Will I strike to gain the rule of all three worlds? Then,
• 9:48
Speaker 1: how much less to seize an earthly kingdom? Killing These
• 9:52
Speaker 1: must breed but anguish Khrushna. If they be guilty, we
• 9:57
Speaker 1: shall grow guilty by their deaths will light on us?
• 10:01
Speaker 1: If we shall slay those sons of dart Rastra and
• 10:06
Speaker 1: our kin, What peace could come of that, Oh Mahdava.
• 10:11
Speaker 1: For if indeed, blinded by lust and wrath, these cannot
• 10:16
Speaker 1: see or will not see the sin of kingly lines
• 10:20
Speaker 1: o'er throne and kinsman slain, how should not we who
• 10:25
Speaker 1: see shun such a crime, We who perceive the guilt
• 10:30
Speaker 1: and feel the shame, Oh Thou delight of men Janardana
• 10:36
Speaker 1: by overthrow of houses perisheth their sweet continuous household, piety
• 10:42
Speaker 1: and rights neglected piety extinct enters impiety. Upon that home,
• 10:49
Speaker 1: it's women grow unwomaned. Whence their spring mad passions and
• 10:55
Speaker 1: the mingling up of castes, sending a hellward road that
• 10:59
Speaker 1: family and whoso wrought its doom by wicked wrath nay,
• 11:04
Speaker 1: and the souls of honored ancestors fall from their place
• 11:08
Speaker 1: of peace, being bereft of funeral cakes and the wan
• 11:12
Speaker 1: death water. So teach our holy hymns. Thus, if we
• 11:16
Speaker 1: slay kinsfolk and friends for love of earthly power, Oh
• 11:20
Speaker 1: of yet, what an evil fault it were better? I
• 11:24
Speaker 1: deem it. If my kinsmen strike to face them weaponless
• 11:29
Speaker 1: and bear my breast to shaft and spear, then answer
• 11:33
Speaker 1: blow with blow. So speaking in the face of those
• 11:37
Speaker 1: two hosts, Arjuna sank upon his chariot seat and let
• 11:42
Speaker 1: fall bow and arrows. Sick at heart, here endeth chapter
• 11:48
Speaker 1: one of the Boghavadgita.
• 11:50
Speaker 2: Chapter two, Sanjaya him filled with such compassion and such grief,
• 11:59
Speaker 2: with awe tear, dimmed, despondent in stern words, the driver
• 12:04
Speaker 2: Madusadan thus addressed, Krishna, How hath this weakness taken thee?
• 12:12
Speaker 2: Whence springs the inglorious trouble, shameful to the brave, barring
• 12:16
Speaker 2: the path of virtue. Nay, our June, forbid thyself to feebleness.
• 12:22
Speaker 2: It mars thy warrior name, cast off the coward fit,
• 12:26
Speaker 2: wake be thyself, arise scourge of thy foes, Our Juna,
• 12:34
Speaker 2: How can I in the battle shoot with shafts on
• 12:38
Speaker 2: Bhishma or on Rona, O Thou chief, both worshipful, both
• 12:43
Speaker 2: honorable men. Better to live on baker's bread with those
• 12:48
Speaker 2: we love alive than taste their blood in rich feasts,
• 12:52
Speaker 2: spread and guiltily survive. Ah, were it worse? Who knows
• 12:58
Speaker 2: to be victor or vanquished? Here when those confront us angrily,
• 13:04
Speaker 2: whose death leaves living drear in pity, lost by doubtings tossed,
• 13:11
Speaker 2: my thoughts distracted, turn to THEE, the guide I reverence
• 13:15
Speaker 2: most that I may counsel learn. I know not what
• 13:19
Speaker 2: would heal the grief burned into soul and sense. If
• 13:24
Speaker 2: I were Earth's unchallenged chief, a god, and these gone,
• 13:29
Speaker 2: thence Sonjaya. So spake Arjuna to the Lord of hearts
• 13:37
Speaker 2: and sighing, I will not fight held silence, then to
• 13:42
Speaker 2: whom with tender smile O barata. While the Prince wept
• 13:47
Speaker 2: despairing TwixT those hosts, Krishna made answer in divinest verse, Krishna,
• 13:55
Speaker 2: Thou grievest where no grief should be. Thou speakest the
• 14:00
Speaker 2: words lacking wisdom for the wise in heart. More, not
• 14:04
Speaker 2: for those that live, nor those that die, Nor I,
• 14:08
Speaker 2: nor thou, nor any one of these ever was not,
• 14:12
Speaker 2: nor ever will not be forever and forever afterwards. All
• 14:18
Speaker 2: that doth live lives always to man's frame. As there
• 14:23
Speaker 2: come infancy and youth and age. So come there raisings
• 14:27
Speaker 2: up and layings down, of other and of other life
• 14:30
Speaker 2: abodes which the wise know and fear. Not This that
• 14:35
Speaker 2: irks thy sense, life thrilling to the elements, bringing the
• 14:40
Speaker 2: heat and cold, sorrows and joys, tis brief and mutable.
• 14:45
Speaker 2: Bear with it, Prince, as the wise bear. The soul
• 14:50
Speaker 2: which is not moved. The soul that with a strong
• 14:53
Speaker 2: and constant calm takes sorrow and takes joy indifferently lives
• 14:58
Speaker 2: in the life, undying. That which is can never cease
• 15:03
Speaker 2: to be that which is not will not exist. To
• 15:08
Speaker 2: see the truth of both is theirs who part essence
• 15:12
Speaker 2: from accident, substance, from shadow, indestructible, Learn thou the life
• 15:18
Speaker 2: is spreading life through all. It cannot, anywhere by any means,
• 15:25
Speaker 2: be any wise diminished, stayed, or changed. But for these
• 15:30
Speaker 2: fleeting frames which it informs with spirit, deathless, endless, infinite,
• 15:35
Speaker 2: they perish. Let them perish, Prince and fight. He who
• 15:41
Speaker 2: shall say, lo, I have slain a man, He who
• 15:45
Speaker 2: shall think, lo I am slain Those both know not
• 15:50
Speaker 2: Life cannot slay. Life is not slain. Never the spirit
• 15:57
Speaker 2: was born. The spirit shall see to be never. Never
• 16:02
Speaker 2: was time, It was not end in beginning our dreams.
• 16:07
Speaker 2: Birthless and deathless and changeless remaineth the spirit forever. Death
• 16:13
Speaker 2: hath not touched it at all, dead, though the house
• 16:16
Speaker 2: of it seems. Who knoweth it exhaustless, self sustained, immortal, indestructible.
• 16:25
Speaker 2: Shall such say I have killed a man, or caused
• 16:28
Speaker 2: to kill? Nay, But as when one layeth his worn
• 16:33
Speaker 2: out robes away, and taking new ones, saith, these will
• 16:37
Speaker 2: I wear to day. So putteth by the spirit lightly
• 16:42
Speaker 2: its garb of flesh, and passeth to inherit a residence. Afresh,
• 16:48
Speaker 2: I say to thee weapons reach not the life, flame
• 16:53
Speaker 2: burns it not, waters cannot o'erwhelm, nor dry winds wither it. Impenetrable, unentered, unassailed, unharmed, untouched, immortal,
• 17:06
Speaker 2: all arriving, stable, sure, invisible, ineffable by word and thought,
• 17:12
Speaker 2: uncompassed ever all itself. Thus is the soul declared. How
• 17:20
Speaker 2: wilt thou, then, knowing it so, grieve when thou shouldst
• 17:25
Speaker 2: not grieve? How if thou hearest that the man new
• 17:30
Speaker 2: dead is like the man new born, still living man,
• 17:35
Speaker 2: one same existent spirit, wilt thou weep? The end of
• 17:41
Speaker 2: birth is death. The end of death is birth. This
• 17:46
Speaker 2: is ordained. And mournest thou, chief of the stalwart arm,
• 17:52
Speaker 2: for what befalls which could not otherwise befall. The birth
• 17:58
Speaker 2: of living things comes un perceived, the death comes unperceived.
• 18:03
Speaker 2: Between them beings perceive, what is there? Sorrowful herein dear prince, wonderful,
• 18:11
Speaker 2: wistful to contemplate, difficult, doubtful to speak upon, strange, and
• 18:17
Speaker 2: great for tongue to relate mystical hearing for everyone, Nor
• 18:23
Speaker 2: wotteth man, This what a marvel it is when seeing
• 18:27
Speaker 2: and saying and hearing are done. This life, within all
• 18:33
Speaker 2: living things, my prince hides beyond harm. Scorn thou to suffer, then,
• 18:39
Speaker 2: for that which cannot suffer, do thy part. Be mindful
• 18:45
Speaker 2: of thy name, and tremble. Not nought better can be
• 18:49
Speaker 2: tied a martial soul than lawful war happy. The warrior
• 18:54
Speaker 2: to whom comes joy of battle comes as now glorious
• 18:59
Speaker 2: and fair, unsought, opening for him a gateway unto heaven.
• 19:05
Speaker 2: But if thou shun'st this honorable field a keshatriya, if
• 19:11
Speaker 2: knowing thy duty and thy task, thou bidst duty and
• 19:15
Speaker 2: task go by, that shall be sin, and those to
• 19:21
Speaker 2: come shall speak thee infamy from age to age. But
• 19:26
Speaker 2: infamy is worse for men of noble blood to bear
• 19:30
Speaker 2: than death. The chiefs, upon their battle chariots will deem
• 19:35
Speaker 2: twas fear that drove THEE from the fray of those
• 19:39
Speaker 2: who held THEE mighty souled the scorn Thou must abide,
• 19:43
Speaker 2: while all thine enemies will scatter bitter speech of THEE
• 19:46
Speaker 2: to mock the valor which thou hadst. What fate could
• 19:50
Speaker 2: fall more grievously than this, either being killed, thou wilt
• 19:56
Speaker 2: win Swargin's safety or alive, and victor thou wilt reign
• 20:01
Speaker 2: an earthly king. Therefore arise, thou, son of COONTI brace
• 20:07
Speaker 2: thine arm for conflict. Nerve thy heart to meet as
• 20:12
Speaker 2: things alike to thee pleasure or pain, prophet or ruin
• 20:17
Speaker 2: victory or defeat. So minded, gird THEE to the fight.
• 20:22
Speaker 2: For so thou shalt not sin. Thus far I speak
• 20:29
Speaker 2: to THEE as from the sanchya unspiritually hear now the
• 20:34
Speaker 2: deeper teaching of the yog, which, holding understanding, thou shalt
• 20:40
Speaker 2: burst thy karme bond the bondage of wrought deeds. Here
• 20:45
Speaker 2: shall no end be hindered, no hope marred, no loss
• 20:49
Speaker 2: be feared. Faith yea, a little faith shall save THEE
• 20:55
Speaker 2: from the anguish of thy dread. Here glory of the
• 20:59
Speaker 2: Kurus shines one rule, one steadfast rule, while shifting souls
• 21:06
Speaker 2: have laws many and hard, specious but wrongful deem. The
• 21:11
Speaker 2: speech of those ill taught ones who extol the letter
• 21:15
Speaker 2: of their Vedas, saying this is all we have or need,
• 21:20
Speaker 2: being weak at heart with wants, seekers of heaven, which
• 21:24
Speaker 2: comes they say as fruit of good deeds done, promising
• 21:30
Speaker 2: men much profit in new births for works of faith,
• 21:35
Speaker 2: in various rights abounding following whereon large merit shall accrue
• 21:40
Speaker 2: towards wealth and power. Albeit who wealth and power do
• 21:46
Speaker 2: most desire, least fixity of soul, have such least hold
• 21:51
Speaker 2: on heavenly meditation. Much These teach from vEDS concerning the
• 21:57
Speaker 2: three qualities. But thou be free of the three qualities,
• 22:03
Speaker 2: free of the pairs of opposites, and free from that
• 22:07
Speaker 2: sad righteousness which calculates self ruled. Are juna simple satisfied,
• 22:15
Speaker 2: look like as when a tank pours water forth to
• 22:18
Speaker 2: suit all needs. So do these brahmins draw texts for
• 22:22
Speaker 2: all wants from tank of holy writ. But thou want
• 22:27
Speaker 2: not ask, not find full reward of doing right in right,
• 22:34
Speaker 2: Let right deeds be thy motive, not the fruit which
• 22:38
Speaker 2: comes from them, and live in action labor, make thine
• 22:43
Speaker 2: acts thy piety, casting all self aside, contemning gain and
• 22:49
Speaker 2: merit equable in good or evil. Equability is yog is piety.
• 22:58
Speaker 2: Yet the right act is less far less than the
• 23:02
Speaker 2: right thinking mind. Seek refuge in thy soul, have there
• 23:08
Speaker 2: thy heaven. Scorn them that follow virtue for her gifts
• 23:14
Speaker 2: the mind of pure devotion, even here casts equally aside
• 23:20
Speaker 2: good deeds and bad, passing above them. Unto pure devotion,
• 23:26
Speaker 2: devote thyself with perfect meditation comes perfect act, and the
• 23:33
Speaker 2: right hearted rise more certainly because they seek no gain
• 23:38
Speaker 2: forth from the bands of body, step by step to
• 23:42
Speaker 2: highest seats of bliss. When thy firm soul hath shaken
• 23:47
Speaker 2: off those tangled oracles which ignorantly guide, then shall it
• 23:53
Speaker 2: soar to high neglect of what's denied or said this
• 23:56
Speaker 2: way or that indoctrinal writ troubled no longer by the
• 24:01
Speaker 2: priestly lore safe, shall it live and sure, steadfastly bent
• 24:07
Speaker 2: on meditation. This is yog and peace are Juna? What
• 24:17
Speaker 2: is his mark? Who hath that steadfast heart confirmed in
• 24:21
Speaker 2: holy meditation? How know we his speech? Cassava sits, he moves,
• 24:27
Speaker 2: he like other men Krishna. When one o Pritha's son,
• 24:34
Speaker 2: abandoning desires which shake the mind, finds in his soul
• 24:39
Speaker 2: full comfort for his soul, he hath attained the yog.
• 24:43
Speaker 2: That man is such in sorrows, not rejected, and enjoys,
• 24:49
Speaker 2: not overjoyed, dwelling outside the stress of passion, fear, and
• 24:54
Speaker 2: anger fixed in calms of lofty contemplation, which one is mooney,
• 25:01
Speaker 2: is the sage, the true recluse. He who, to none
• 25:05
Speaker 2: and nowhere, overbound by ties of flesh, takes evil things
• 25:10
Speaker 2: and good, neither desponding nor exulting. Such bears Wisdom's plainest mark.
• 25:18
Speaker 2: He who shall draw, as the wise tortoise draws its
• 25:21
Speaker 2: four feet safe under its shield, his five frail senses
• 25:26
Speaker 2: back under the spirit spuckler from the world which else
• 25:29
Speaker 2: assails them. Such a one, my prince, hath Wisdom's mark.
• 25:36
Speaker 2: Things that solicit sense hold off from the self governed. Nay,
• 25:41
Speaker 2: it comes the appetites of him who lives beyond, depart
• 25:46
Speaker 2: aroused no more. Yet, may it chance, o, son of COUNTI,
• 25:52
Speaker 2: that a governed mind shall sometimes feel the sense storm
• 25:56
Speaker 2: sweep and rest strong self control by the roots. Let
• 26:01
Speaker 2: him regain his kingdom. Let him conquer this and sit
• 26:05
Speaker 2: on me intent that man alone is wise who keeps
• 26:11
Speaker 2: the mastery of himself. If one ponders on objects of
• 26:16
Speaker 2: the sense, there springs attraction. From attraction grows desire, Desire
• 26:23
Speaker 2: flames to fierce passion, passion breeds recklessness. Then the memory
• 26:29
Speaker 2: all betrayed lets noble purpose go and SAPs the mind
• 26:34
Speaker 2: till purpose. Mind and man are all undone. But if
• 26:39
Speaker 2: one deals with objects of the sense, not loving and
• 26:43
Speaker 2: not hating, making them serve his free soul, which rests serenely,
• 26:48
Speaker 2: Lord Lo, such a man comes to tranquility, and out
• 26:53
Speaker 2: of that tranquility shall rise the end and healing of
• 26:57
Speaker 2: his earthly pains. Since the ill governed sets the soul
• 27:01
Speaker 2: at peace. The soul of the ungoverned is not his
• 27:06
Speaker 2: nor hathy. Knowledge of himself, which lacked, how grows serenity
• 27:13
Speaker 2: and wanting that whence shall he hope for happiness. The
• 27:18
Speaker 2: mind that gives itself to follow shows of sense, seeth
• 27:22
Speaker 2: its helm of wisdom rent away, and like a ship
• 27:27
Speaker 2: in waves of whirlwind, drives to wreck and death. Only
• 27:32
Speaker 2: with him, great Prince, whose sense are not swayed by
• 27:36
Speaker 2: things of sense. Only with him who holds his mastery,
• 27:41
Speaker 2: shows wisdom perfect. What is midnight gloom to unenlightened souls
• 27:47
Speaker 2: shines wakeful day is known for night, thick night of
• 27:52
Speaker 2: ignorance to his true seeing eyes. Such is the saint,
• 27:59
Speaker 2: And like the ocean, day by day, receiving floods from
• 28:03
Speaker 2: all lands, which never overflows its boundary line, not leaping
• 28:08
Speaker 2: and not leaving, fed by the rivers, but unswelled by those.
• 28:14
Speaker 2: So is the perfect one to his soul's ocean, the
• 28:19
Speaker 2: world of sense, poor streams of witchery. They leave him
• 28:24
Speaker 2: as they find, without commotion, taking their tribute, but remaining.
• 28:29
Speaker 2: See yea whoso shaking off the yoke of flesh, lives lord,
• 28:37
Speaker 2: not servant of his lusts, set free from pride, from passion,
• 28:44
Speaker 2: from the sin of self, toucheth tranquility o Pritha's sun.
• 28:51
Speaker 2: That is the state of brahm. There rests no dread
• 28:56
Speaker 2: when that last step is reached. Live where he will
• 29:01
Speaker 2: die when he may such passeth from all planning to
• 29:05
Speaker 2: blessed nirvana, with the gods attaining end of chapter.
• 29:14
Speaker 3: Two, Chapter three Virtue in work Arjuna, though whom all
• 29:20
Speaker 3: models praise Janardana. If meditation be a nobler thing than action, wherefore, then,
• 29:25
Speaker 3: great Kishawa, dost thou impel me to this dreadful fight. Now,
• 29:29
Speaker 3: am I by the doubtful speech disturbed? Tell me one thing,
• 29:33
Speaker 3: and tell me certainly by what road shall I find
• 29:36
Speaker 3: the better end? Chrishna, I told thee blameless Lord. There
• 29:41
Speaker 3: be too. Path shown to this world two schools of wisdom.
• 29:45
Speaker 3: First the shankies, which doth save in way of works
• 29:49
Speaker 3: prescribe by reason. Next the yoke, which bids attained by
• 29:54
Speaker 3: meditation spiritually. Yet these are one. No a man shall
• 30:00
Speaker 3: escape from act by shunning action, nay, and none shall
• 30:05
Speaker 3: come by mere renouncements unto perfectness nay. And no jot
• 30:11
Speaker 3: of time at any time rests any actionless his nature's
• 30:15
Speaker 3: law compels him, even unwilling, into act, For thought is
• 30:20
Speaker 3: act and fancy. He who sits suppressing all the instruments
• 30:24
Speaker 3: of flesh, yet in his idle heart thinking on them,
• 30:28
Speaker 3: plays the inept and guilty hypocrite. But he who, with
• 30:32
Speaker 3: strong body serving mind, gives up its mortal powers to
• 30:36
Speaker 3: worthy work, not seeking gain arjuna, such ch an one
• 30:41
Speaker 3: is honorable. Do thine allotted task. Work is more excellent
• 30:46
Speaker 3: than idleness. The body's life proceeds not lacking work. There
• 30:52
Speaker 3: is a task of holiness to do, unlike world binding toil,
• 30:56
Speaker 3: which bindeth not the faithful soul. Such earthly duty do
• 31:00
Speaker 3: free from desire, and those shall well perform thy heavenly purpose.
• 31:05
Speaker 3: Spake Prajapati in the beginning when all men were made,
• 31:10
Speaker 3: and with mankind the sacrifice, do this work, sacrifice, increase
• 31:17
Speaker 3: and multiply with sacrifice. This shall be Kamaduk, your cow
• 31:22
Speaker 3: of plenty, giving back her milk of all abundance. Worship
• 31:27
Speaker 3: the gods. Thereby the gods shall yield their grace those
• 31:31
Speaker 3: meats ye crave. The gods will grant to labor when
• 31:34
Speaker 3: it pays tides in the altar flame. But if one
• 31:38
Speaker 3: eat fruits of the earth, rendering to kindly heaven, no
• 31:41
Speaker 3: gift of toil that thief steals from his world. Who
• 31:45
Speaker 3: eat of food after their sacrifice are quit of fault.
• 31:49
Speaker 3: But they that spread a feast all for themselves eat
• 31:53
Speaker 3: sin and drink of sin. Buy food. The living, live
• 31:57
Speaker 3: food comes of rain, and rain comes by the pious sacrifice,
• 32:02
Speaker 3: and sacrifice is paid with tithes of toil. Thus action
• 32:08
Speaker 3: is of Brahma, who is one the only all pervading,
• 32:12
Speaker 3: at all times, present in sacrifice. He that abstains to
• 32:17
Speaker 3: help the rolling wheels of this great world, glutting his
• 32:21
Speaker 3: idle sense, lives a lost life, shameful and vain, existing
• 32:27
Speaker 3: for himself, self concentrated, serving self alone, no part hath
• 32:32
Speaker 3: he in aught, nothing achieved, no wrote or unrote toucheth him.
• 32:37
Speaker 3: No hope of help for all the living things of
• 32:40
Speaker 3: earth depends from him. Therefore, thy tasks, prescribed with spirit unattached,
• 32:47
Speaker 3: gladly perform, since in performance of plain duty, man mounts
• 32:52
Speaker 3: to his highest bliss by works alone, Janak and ancient
• 32:57
Speaker 3: saints reached blessedness. Moreover, for the upholding of thy kind action,
• 33:02
Speaker 3: thou shouldst embrace what the wise choose, the unwise people take,
• 33:06
Speaker 3: what best men do, the multitude will follow. Look on me,
• 33:11
Speaker 3: those son of Pritha in the three White worlds. I
• 33:14
Speaker 3: am not bound to any toil. No height awaits to scale,
• 33:18
Speaker 3: no gift remains to gain. Yet I act here. And
• 33:23
Speaker 3: if I acted not earnest and watchful, those that look
• 33:27
Speaker 3: to me for guidance sinking back to sloth again because
• 33:31
Speaker 3: I slumbered would decline from good. And I should break
• 33:35
Speaker 3: Earth's order and commit her off ring san to ruin Parada.
• 33:40
Speaker 3: Even as the unknowing toil weddeth to sends. So let
• 33:43
Speaker 3: the enlightened toil sense freed but set to bring the
• 33:47
Speaker 3: world deliverance and its bliss, not sowing in those simple
• 33:51
Speaker 3: busy hearts seeds of despair. Yea, let each play his
• 33:56
Speaker 3: part in all he finds to do with unyoked soul.
• 34:00
Speaker 3: All things are everywhere by nature wrote in interaction of
• 34:03
Speaker 3: the qualities. The fool cheated by self things this I
• 34:08
Speaker 3: did and that I wrote. But ah, those strong armed
• 34:13
Speaker 3: prints a better less in mind, knowing the play of
• 34:17
Speaker 3: visible things within the world of sense, and how the
• 34:21
Speaker 3: qualities must qualify, standeth a loof even from his acts.
• 34:26
Speaker 3: The untaught lived mixed with them, knowing not Nature's way
• 34:30
Speaker 3: of highest aims. Unwitting, slow and dull, those make thee
• 34:36
Speaker 3: not to stumble having the light. But all that due
• 34:40
Speaker 3: is discharging for my sake, with meditation, centered inwardly seeking
• 34:47
Speaker 3: no profit, satisfied, serene, heedless of issue, fight they who
• 34:55
Speaker 3: shall keep my ordinance. Thus the wise and willing hearts
• 34:59
Speaker 3: have wittens from all issue of their acts. But those
• 35:04
Speaker 3: who disregard my ordinance, thinking they know, know not, and
• 35:09
Speaker 3: fall to loss, confused and foolish. Sooth the instructed won
• 35:14
Speaker 3: doth of his kind, following what fits him most, and
• 35:19
Speaker 3: lower creatures of their kind in vain, contending against the
• 35:23
Speaker 3: law needs must it be. The objects of the sense
• 35:26
Speaker 3: will stir the sense to like and dislike. Yet the
• 35:30
Speaker 3: enlightened man yields not to these, knowing them enemies. Finally,
• 35:36
Speaker 3: this is better that one do his own task as
• 35:40
Speaker 3: he may, even though he fail, than take tasks not
• 35:44
Speaker 3: his own, though they seem good. To die performing duty
• 35:48
Speaker 3: is no ill. But who seeks other roads shall wander
• 35:52
Speaker 3: still Arjuna. Yet tell me, teacher, by what force doth
• 35:58
Speaker 3: man go to his ill unwilling, as if one pushed
• 36:02
Speaker 3: him that evil part Krishna calmaitis passion. It is born
• 36:09
Speaker 3: of the darknesses which pusheth him mighty, of appetite, sinful
• 36:14
Speaker 3: and strong. This is man's enemy. As smoke bloats the
• 36:20
Speaker 3: white fire, as clinging rust masks the bright mirror, as
• 36:24
Speaker 3: the womb surrounds the babe unborn, so is the world
• 36:28
Speaker 3: of things foiled, soiled, enclosed in the desire of flesh.
• 36:33
Speaker 3: The wise fall caught in it, the unresting foe. It
• 36:38
Speaker 3: is of wisdom, wearing countless forms, fair but deceitful, subtle
• 36:44
Speaker 3: as a flame sense, mind and reason, These o kuntisan
• 36:49
Speaker 3: are booty for it. In its play with these, it
• 36:53
Speaker 3: maddens man, beguiling, blinding him. Therefore, though noblest child of Pareta,
• 37:00
Speaker 3: govern thy heart constrained, the entangled sense rests the false
• 37:05
Speaker 3: soft sinfulness, which SAPs knowledge and judgment. Yeare the world
• 37:11
Speaker 3: is strong, But what discerns it stronger? And the mind's
• 37:14
Speaker 3: strongest and high overall the ruling soul. Wherefore, perceiving him
• 37:21
Speaker 3: who reigns Supreme, put forth full force of soul in
• 37:25
Speaker 3: thy own soul, fight vanquish fores and doubts. Dear hero,
• 37:30
Speaker 3: slave haunts thee infawned shapes, and would betray Here ended
• 37:36
Speaker 3: chapter three of the Pagawakita.
• 37:38
Speaker 4: Chapter four. Krishna, this tatless yoga, this deep union, I
• 37:46
Speaker 4: taught Viiswata, the lord of Light Viswata to Manu, gave
• 37:51
Speaker 4: it he to Ishwaku, so passed it down the line
• 37:56
Speaker 4: of all my royal Rishis. Then with years the truth
• 38:00
Speaker 4: grew dim and perished. Noble Prince, now once again to thee.
• 38:05
Speaker 4: It is declared this ancient lore, this mystery supreme, Seeing
• 38:10
Speaker 4: I find thee votary and friend thy birth dear Lord
• 38:16
Speaker 4: was in these later days and bright Viswata's preceded time.
• 38:21
Speaker 4: How shall I comprehend this thing? Thou sayst from the beginning.
• 38:25
Speaker 4: It was I who taught many fold. The renewals of
• 38:29
Speaker 4: my birth have been urgent, and of thy birds too.
• 38:33
Speaker 4: But mine I know, and thine thou knowest not, O
• 38:37
Speaker 4: slayer of thy foes. Albet, I be unborn, undying, indestructible,
• 38:43
Speaker 4: the lord of all things, living not the less. By maya,
• 38:47
Speaker 4: by my magic, which I stamp on floating nature forms
• 38:52
Speaker 4: the primal vast, I come and go, and come when
• 38:56
Speaker 4: righteousness declines, O Bhareth, when vicked witness is strong, I
• 39:01
Speaker 4: rise from age to age, and take visible shape and
• 39:06
Speaker 4: move man with men, succoring the good, thrusting the evil back,
• 39:13
Speaker 4: and setting virtue on her seat again, who knows the truth,
• 39:17
Speaker 4: touching my birds on earth and my divine work. When
• 39:21
Speaker 4: he quits, the flesh puts on its load, no more falls,
• 39:25
Speaker 4: no more down to earthly birth to me. He comes,
• 39:29
Speaker 4: Dear Prince. Many there be who come from fear, set
• 39:34
Speaker 4: free from anger, from desire, keeping their hearts fixed upon me,
• 39:40
Speaker 4: my faithful, purified by sacred flame of knowledge. Such as
• 39:45
Speaker 4: these mix with my being. Whoso worship me them I exalt.
• 39:52
Speaker 4: But all men everywhere shall fall into my path a bed,
• 39:56
Speaker 4: those souls which seek reward for works. Make sacrifice. Now
• 40:00
Speaker 4: to the lower gods, I say to thee, here have
• 40:05
Speaker 4: they their reward? But I am he made the forecasts
• 40:12
Speaker 4: and portioned them a place after their qualities and gifts. Ye,
• 40:17
Speaker 4: I created the reporseful, I that live immortally made all
• 40:22
Speaker 4: those mortal birds for works soil, not my essence, being
• 40:26
Speaker 4: works wrought uninvolved, who knows me? Acting thus unchained by action?
• 40:33
Speaker 4: Action binds not him, and so perceiving. All those saints
• 40:38
Speaker 4: of old worked seeking for deliverance. Worked thou as in
• 40:43
Speaker 4: the days gone by thy fathers, did thou sayest perplexed?
• 40:49
Speaker 4: It had been asked before by singers and by sages,
• 40:52
Speaker 4: what is act and what is in action? I will
• 40:56
Speaker 4: teach thee this, and now, knowing thou shalt learn, which
• 41:01
Speaker 4: work doth save needs? Must one rightly meditate those three doing,
• 41:09
Speaker 4: not doing, and undoing. Here thorny and dark the path
• 41:15
Speaker 4: is he who sees how action may be rest rest action.
• 41:19
Speaker 4: He is wisest mid his kind. He had the truth.
• 41:24
Speaker 4: He doth well acting or resting, freed in all his
• 41:28
Speaker 4: works from prickings of desire, burned clean in act by
• 41:32
Speaker 4: the white fire of truth. The wise call, why that
• 41:36
Speaker 4: man wise, and such a one, renouncing fruit of deeds,
• 41:42
Speaker 4: always content, always self satisfying. If he works, doth nothing
• 41:48
Speaker 4: that shall stain his separate soul, which quit a fear
• 41:51
Speaker 4: in hope, subduing self, rejecting outward impulse, yielding up to body.
• 41:57
Speaker 4: Bodies need nothing save body dwells sinless, amid all sin,
• 42:04
Speaker 4: with equal calm, taking what may befall by grief, unmoved,
• 42:09
Speaker 4: unmoved by joy, unenvyingly the same in good and evil fortunes,
• 42:16
Speaker 4: no wise bound by bond of deeds. Nay, but of
• 42:21
Speaker 4: such a one whose crave is gone, whose soul is liberate,
• 42:25
Speaker 4: whose heart is set on truth, And of such a
• 42:28
Speaker 4: one whose work he does is work of sacrifice, which
• 42:33
Speaker 4: pass it purely into ash and smoke, consumed upon altar.
• 42:39
Speaker 4: All's then God. The sacrifice is Brumma. The ghee and
• 42:43
Speaker 4: grain are Brumma, the fire is brummer, and the flesh
• 42:47
Speaker 4: it eats is Brumma. And on to Brumma attain he
• 42:51
Speaker 4: who in such office meditates on Brumma. Some votaries there
• 42:56
Speaker 4: be who serve the gods with flesh and altar smoke,
• 43:00
Speaker 4: but other some who lighting subtler fires make purer right
• 43:05
Speaker 4: with will of worship of the which be. They who,
• 43:09
Speaker 4: in white flame of countenance consume joys of the sense,
• 43:13
Speaker 4: delights of ear and eye, foregoing tender speech and sound
• 43:18
Speaker 4: of song. And they who, kindling fires with torch of truth,
• 43:23
Speaker 4: burn on a hidden altar stone the bliss of youth
• 43:26
Speaker 4: and love, renouncing happiness. And they who lay for offering
• 43:31
Speaker 4: their their wealth, their penance, meditation, piety, their steadfast reading
• 43:37
Speaker 4: of the scrolls, their lore painfully gained with long austerities.
• 43:42
Speaker 4: And they who, making silent sacrifice, draw in their breath
• 43:46
Speaker 4: to feed the flame of thought, and breathe it forth
• 43:50
Speaker 4: to waft the heart on high, governing the vintage of
• 43:55
Speaker 4: each entering air, lest one sigh pass which hath held
• 44:00
Speaker 4: not the soul. And they who, day by day, denying needs,
• 44:04
Speaker 4: lay life itself upon the altar flame, burning the body
• 44:09
Speaker 4: van lo. All these keep the right of offering, as
• 44:13
Speaker 4: if they slew victims, and all thereby efface mut sin ye.
• 44:18
Speaker 4: And who feed on the immortal food left of such
• 44:22
Speaker 4: sacrifice to brumma passed to the unending. But for him
• 44:27
Speaker 4: that makes no sacrifice, he hath nor part, nor lot
• 44:32
Speaker 4: even in the present world, How should he share another
• 44:36
Speaker 4: of thou glory of thy line in sight of Brahma.
• 44:40
Speaker 4: All these offerings are spread and are accepted, comprehend that
• 44:44
Speaker 4: all proceed by act. For knowing this, thou shalt be
• 44:48
Speaker 4: quit of doubt. The sacrifice which knowledge pays is better
• 44:53
Speaker 4: than great sacrifice or great gifts offered by wealth, Since
• 44:59
Speaker 4: gifts worth O, my Prince, lies in the mind which
• 45:03
Speaker 4: gives the will that serves. And these are gained by reverence,
• 45:08
Speaker 4: by strong search, by humble heed of those who see
• 45:11
Speaker 4: the truth and teach it. Knowing truth, thy heart no
• 45:15
Speaker 4: more will ache with error, For the truth shall show
• 45:19
Speaker 4: all things subdued to THEE, and thou to me moreover,
• 45:24
Speaker 4: son of Pandu, wert thou worst of all wrongdoers. This
• 45:28
Speaker 4: fair ship of truth should bear THEE safe and dry
• 45:31
Speaker 4: across the sea of thy transgressions. As the kindled flame
• 45:36
Speaker 4: of feeds on the fuel till it sinks to ash
• 45:41
Speaker 4: so on to ash Urjada, onto nought, the flame of
• 45:46
Speaker 4: knowledge wastees works draws away. There is no purer like
• 45:51
Speaker 4: there too in all this world, and he who seeks
• 45:54
Speaker 4: it shall find it, being grown perfect in himself. Believing
• 45:59
Speaker 4: he receives it when the soul masters itself and cleaves
• 46:03
Speaker 4: to truth and comes possessing knowledge to the higher peace
• 46:07
Speaker 4: the utmost reports. But those untaught and those without full faith,
• 46:14
Speaker 4: and those who fear are shent. No peace is here
• 46:18
Speaker 4: or otherware, no hope nor happiness for whoso doubts heat, that,
• 46:24
Speaker 4: being self contained, hath vanquished doubt, disparting self from service,
• 46:30
Speaker 4: soul from works, enlightened and emancipate my prince. Works fetter
• 46:36
Speaker 4: him no more cut then a twin with sword of wisdom,
• 46:41
Speaker 4: son of Bareth. This doubt that binds thy heart beats,
• 46:45
Speaker 4: cleave the bond born of thy ignorance. Be bold and
• 46:49
Speaker 4: wise give thyself to the field with me arise. End
• 46:55
  Speaker 4: of chapter four.
• 46:56
Speaker 5: Chapter five, the Book of Religion. By renouncing free of works,
• 47:02
Speaker 5: Ardu now yet Krishna, at the one time thou dost Lord,
• 47:07
Speaker 5: surcease of works, and at another time service through work.
• 47:13
Speaker 5: Of these Twain plainly tell which is the better way, Krishna.
• 47:19
Speaker 5: To cease from works is well, and to do works
• 47:23
Speaker 5: in holiness is well, and both conduct to bliss supreme.
• 47:28
Speaker 5: But of these Twain the better way is his who
• 47:31
Speaker 5: working piously refraineth not. That is the true renouncer, firm
• 47:37
Speaker 5: and fixed, who seeking nought rejecteth nought, dwells proof against
• 47:44
Speaker 5: the opposites, that is joy and sorrow, success and failure,
• 47:49
Speaker 5: heat and cold, etc. O. Valiant prince, in doing such
• 47:55
Speaker 5: breaks lightly from all deed. Tis the new scholar talks
• 48:00
Speaker 5: as they were two, this Sankia and this yoga. Wise
• 48:06
Speaker 5: men know who husband's one plucks golden fruit of both
• 48:11
Speaker 5: the region of high rest which Sanchian's reach yogins attain.
• 48:17
Speaker 5: Who sees these twain as one sees with clear eyes.
• 48:21
Speaker 5: Yet such abstraction chief is hard to win without much holiness.
• 48:27
Speaker 5: Who is fixed in holiness, self ruled, pure hearted, lord
• 48:33
Speaker 5: of senses and of self lost in the common life
• 48:36
Speaker 5: of all which lives a yoga yucht he is a
• 48:40
Speaker 5: saint who whens straightway to Brahm. Such an one is
• 48:46
Speaker 5: not touched by taint of deeds nought of myself I do.
• 48:51
Speaker 5: Thus will he think? Who holds the truth of truths
• 48:55
Speaker 5: in seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, when he eats or goes,
• 49:01
Speaker 5: or breathes, slumbers or talks, holds fast or loosens, opens
• 49:07
Speaker 5: his eyes or shuts always assured. This is the sense
• 49:12
Speaker 5: world plays with senses. He that acts in thought of brahm,
• 49:18
Speaker 5: detaching end from act with act content. The world of
• 49:23
Speaker 5: sense can no more stain his soul than waters mar
• 49:27
Speaker 5: the enameled lotus, leaf with life, with heart, with mind, nay,
• 49:33
Speaker 5: with the help of all five senses. Letting selfhard go
• 49:38
Speaker 5: Jogan's toil, ever towards their soul's release, Such votaries renouncing
• 49:44
Speaker 5: fruit of deeds, gain endless peace. The unvowed, the passion
• 49:49
Speaker 5: bound seeking a fruit from works, are fastened down. The
• 49:54
Speaker 5: embodied sage withdrawn within his soul at every act sits
• 49:59
Speaker 5: God god like in the town which hath nine gateways,
• 50:04
Speaker 5: I either body, neither doing aught nor causing any deed.
• 50:11
Speaker 5: This world's lord makes neither the work, nor passion for
• 50:15
Speaker 5: the work, nor lust for fruit of work. The man's
• 50:18
Speaker 5: own self pushes to these. The master of this world
• 50:24
Speaker 5: takes on himself the good or evil deeds of no man.
• 50:28
Speaker 5: Dwelling beyond mankind heirs here by folly darkening knowledge, but
• 50:35
Speaker 5: for whom that darkness of the soul is chased by light,
• 50:39
Speaker 5: splendid and clear shines, manifest the truth as if a
• 50:43
Speaker 5: sun of wisdom sprang to shed its beams of dawn,
• 50:48
Speaker 5: him meditating, still him seeking with him, blended, stayed on him.
• 50:54
Speaker 5: The souls illuminated take that road which hath no turning back,
• 50:59
Speaker 5: their sins flung off by strength of faith. Who will
• 51:04
Speaker 5: may have this light? Who hath it? Sees? To him
• 51:08
Speaker 5: who wisely sees the Brahman with his scrolls and sanctities,
• 51:13
Speaker 5: The cow, the elephant, the unclean dog, the outcast gorging
• 51:18
Speaker 5: dog's meat, are all one. The world is overcome. I
• 51:24
Speaker 5: even hear by such as fix their faith on unity.
• 51:28
Speaker 5: The sinless Brama dwells in unity. And they in Brahma
• 51:33
Speaker 5: be not over glad, attaining joy, and be not over sad,
• 51:38
Speaker 5: encountering grief, but stayed on Brama, still constant. Let each abide.
• 51:45
Speaker 5: The sage, whose soul holds off from outer contacts, in
• 51:50
Speaker 5: himself finds bliss to Brahma. Joined by piety, his spirit
• 51:56
Speaker 5: tastes eternal peace. The joys springing from sense life are
• 52:01
Speaker 5: but quickening wombs which breed sure griefs. Those joys begin
• 52:07
Speaker 5: and end. The wise mind takes no pleasure Kunti's son
• 52:12
Speaker 5: in such as those. But if a man shall learn,
• 52:16
Speaker 5: even while he lives and bears his body's chain to
• 52:20
Speaker 5: master lust and anger. He is blessed. He is the Yuctar.
• 52:25
Speaker 5: He hath happiness, contentment, light within his life is merged
• 52:31
Speaker 5: in Brahma's life. He doth Nirvana touch. Thus go the
• 52:36
Speaker 5: rishis unto rest, who dwell with sins, effaced with doubts,
• 52:41
Speaker 5: at end, with hearts governed and calm, glad in all good.
• 52:48
Speaker 5: They live nigh to the peace of God. And all
• 52:51
Speaker 5: those live who pass their days exempt from greed and wrath,
• 52:56
Speaker 5: subduing self and senses, knowing the soul, the saint who
• 53:02
Speaker 5: shuts outside his placid soul all touch of sense, letting
• 53:06
Speaker 5: no contact through whose quiet eyes gaze straight from fixed brows,
• 53:12
Speaker 5: whose outward breath and inward breath are drawn equal and
• 53:16
Speaker 5: slow through nostrils still and close. That one, with organ's
• 53:21
Speaker 5: heart and mind constrained, bent on deliverance, having put away
• 53:25
Speaker 5: passion and fear and rage, hath even now obtained deliverance,
• 53:31
Speaker 5: ever and ever freed. YEA, for he knows me, who
• 53:36
Speaker 5: am he that heeds the sacrifice and worship God revealed,
• 53:42
Speaker 5: And he who heeds not being lord of worlds lover
• 53:46
Speaker 5: of all that lives God unrevealed, wherein who will shall
• 53:52
Speaker 5: find surety and shield? Here ends Chapter five of the
• 53:58
Speaker 5: Bagavad Gita six Krishna.
• 54:04
Speaker 6: Therefore, who doeth work rightful to do, not seeking gain
• 54:08
Speaker 6: from work? That man o prince is Sunyasi and Yogi
• 54:13
Speaker 6: both in one, And he is neither who lights not
• 54:17
Speaker 6: the flame of sacrifice, nor setteth hand to task. Regard
• 54:22
Speaker 6: as true renouncer him that makes worship by work, For
• 54:26
Speaker 6: who renounceth not works not as yogan, so is that
• 54:31
Speaker 6: well said by works the votary doth rise to saint,
• 54:35
Speaker 6: and saintship is the ceasing from all works. Because the
• 54:39
Speaker 6: perfect yogin acts, but acts unmoved by passions and unbound
• 54:44
Speaker 6: by deeds, setting result aside. Let each man raise the
• 54:50
Speaker 6: self by soul, not trample down his self, since soul
• 54:54
Speaker 6: that is self's friend may grow self's foe. Soul is
• 54:59
Speaker 6: self's friend when self doth rule over self, but self
• 55:03
Speaker 6: turns enemy. If soul's own self hate self as not itself.
• 55:10
Speaker 6: The sovereign soul of him who live, self governed and
• 55:13
Speaker 6: at peace, is centered in itself, taking alike pleasure and pain, heat, cold,
• 55:20
Speaker 6: glory and shame. He is the Yogi. He is Yukta,
• 55:25
Speaker 6: glad with joy of light and truth, dwelling apart upon
• 55:29
Speaker 6: a peak, with senses subjugate. Where to the cloud, the rock,
• 55:34
Speaker 6: the glistering gold, show all as one. By this sign
• 55:39
Speaker 6: is he known, being of equal grace to comrades, friends, chance, comers, strangers, lovers, enemies,
• 55:47
Speaker 6: aliens and kinsmen, loving all alike, evil or good sequestered.
• 55:53
Speaker 6: Should he sit steadfastly, meditating, solitary, his thoughts controlled, his
• 55:59
Speaker 6: passion laid away, quit of belongings, in a fair still spot,
• 56:05
Speaker 6: having his fixed abode not too much raised, nor yet
• 56:09
Speaker 6: too low. Let him abide his goods a cloth, a
• 56:13
Speaker 6: deer skin, and the cusa grass. There, setting heart his
• 56:18
Speaker 6: mind upon the one restraining heart and senses silent calm.
• 56:24
Speaker 6: Let him accomplish yoga and achieve pureness of soul, holding
• 56:29
Speaker 6: immovable body and neck and head, his gaze absorbed upon
• 56:34
Speaker 6: his nose, end wrapped from all around, tranquil in spirit,
• 56:39
Speaker 6: free of fear, intent upon his Brahmacharya, vow devout, musing
• 56:44
Speaker 6: on me, lost in the thought of me, that Yogans
• 56:49
Speaker 6: so devoted, so controlled, comes to the piece beyond my peace,
• 56:55
Speaker 6: the peace of high nirvana. But for earthly need. Religion
• 57:01
Speaker 6: is not his who too much fasts or too much feasts,
• 57:05
Speaker 6: nor his who sleeps away in idle mind, nor his
• 57:09
Speaker 6: who wears to waste his strength and vigils. Nay Arjuna
• 57:14
Speaker 6: call that the true piety which most removes earth aches
• 57:18
Speaker 6: and ills. Where one is moderate in eating and in resting,
• 57:22
Speaker 6: and in sport, measured in wish and act, sleeping betimes,
• 57:27
Speaker 6: waking betimes for duty. When the man so living centers
• 57:32
Speaker 6: on his soul the thought straightly, restrained, untouched internally by
• 57:37
Speaker 6: stress of sense, Then is he yuctah see steadfast a
• 57:43
Speaker 6: lamp burns shelter'd from the wind. Such is the likeness
• 57:47
Speaker 6: of the Jogi's mind shut from sense, storms in burning
• 57:52
Speaker 6: bright to heaven when mind broods placid, soothed with holy
• 57:56
Speaker 6: wont when self contemplates self and in itself hath comfort
• 58:02
Speaker 6: when it knows the nameless joy beyond all scope of sense,
• 58:06
Speaker 6: revealed to soul only to soul, and knowing wavers not
• 58:12
Speaker 6: true to the farther truth. When holding this, it deems
• 58:17
Speaker 6: no other treasure comparable. But harbored, there cannot be stirred
• 58:22
Speaker 6: or shook by any gravest grief. Call that state peace,
• 58:27
Speaker 6: that happy severance. Yoga, Call that man the perfect Yogin
• 58:33
Speaker 6: steadfastly the will must toil, thereto till efforts end in ease,
• 58:39
Speaker 6: and thought has passed from thinking, shaking off all longings,
• 58:44
Speaker 6: bread by dreams of fame and gain, shutting the doorways
• 58:48
Speaker 6: of the senses close with watchful ward. So step by
• 58:53
Speaker 6: step it comes to gift of peace assured and heart assuaged.
• 58:58
Speaker 6: When the mind dwells self wrapped and the soul broods cumberless.
• 59:04
Speaker 6: But as often as the heart breaks, wild and wavering
• 59:08
Speaker 6: from control, so often let him recurb it, let him
• 59:13
Speaker 6: rein it, back to the soul's governance. For perfect bliss
• 59:17
Speaker 6: grows only in the bosom, tranquilized, the spirit, passionless, purged
• 59:22
Speaker 6: from a fence, vowed to the infinite, He who thus
• 59:27
Speaker 6: vows his soul to the supreme Soul, quitting sin, passes unhindered,
• 59:33
Speaker 6: to the enlistless of unity with Brahma. He so vowed,
• 59:38
Speaker 6: so blended, sees the life's soul resident in all things living,
• 59:43
Speaker 6: and all living things in that life's soul contained, and
• 59:47
Speaker 6: whoso thus discerneth me in all and all in me.
• 59:52
Speaker 6: I never let him go, nor looseneth he hold upon me,
• 59:57
Speaker 6: but dwell where he may whate'er his life. In me.
• 1:00:01
Speaker 6: He dwells and lives because he knows and worships me,
• 1:00:05
Speaker 6: who dwell in all which lives, and cleaves to me
• 1:00:09
Speaker 6: in all, Arjuna. If a man sees everywhere taught by
• 1:00:14
Speaker 6: his own similitude, one life, one essence, and the evil
• 1:00:18
Speaker 6: and the good, hold him a yogi, yea well perfected Arjuna,
• 1:00:26
Speaker 6: slayer of Madu. Yet again, this yog, this peace derived
• 1:00:31
Speaker 6: from equanimity made known by THEE. I see no fixity,
• 1:00:35
Speaker 6: therein no rest, because the heart of men is unfixed.
• 1:00:39
Speaker 6: Krishna rash tumultuous, wilful, and strong. It were all one,
• 1:00:45
Speaker 6: I think to hold the wayward wind as tame man's heart.
• 1:00:50
Speaker 6: Krishna hero long armed beyond denial. Hard man's heart is
• 1:00:56
Speaker 6: to restrain and wavering. Yet may it grow strained by habit, Prince,
• 1:01:02
Speaker 6: by want of self command? This yogi, I say, cometh
• 1:01:06
Speaker 6: not lightly to the ungoverned ones. But he who will
• 1:01:10
Speaker 6: be master of himself shall win it, if he stoutly
• 1:01:14
Speaker 6: strive thereto Arjuna. In what road goeth he who, having
• 1:01:21
Speaker 6: faith fails Krishna in the striving, falling back from holiness,
• 1:01:26
Speaker 6: missing the perfect rule? Is he not lost? Straining from
• 1:01:30
Speaker 6: Brahma's light Like the vain cloud which floats TwixT earth
• 1:01:34
Speaker 6: and heaven, when lightning splits it and it vanisheth?
• 1:01:38
  Speaker 5: Fain?
• 1:01:38
Speaker 6: Would I hear thee answer me herein? Since Krishna, none
• 1:01:42
Speaker 6: save thou, can clear the doubt. Krishna, he is not lost,
• 1:01:48
Speaker 6: Thou son of Prita. No nor earth nor heaven is
• 1:01:52
Speaker 6: forfeit even for him, because no heart that holds one
• 1:01:56
Speaker 6: right desire treadeth the road of loss. He who should
• 1:02:01
Speaker 6: fail desiring righteousness cometh at death unto the region of
• 1:02:05
Speaker 6: the just, dwells there measureless years, and being born anew
• 1:02:10
Speaker 6: beginneth life again in some fair home amid the mild
• 1:02:14
Speaker 6: and happy. It may chance he doth descend into a
• 1:02:18
Speaker 6: yogan's house on Virtue's breast, but that is rare. Such
• 1:02:23
Speaker 6: birth is hard to be obtained on this earth. Chief,
• 1:02:26
Speaker 6: so hath he back again what heights of heart he
• 1:02:29
Speaker 6: did achieve, And so he strives anew to perfectness with
• 1:02:34
Speaker 6: better hope, dear Prince, for by the old desire he
• 1:02:38
Speaker 6: is drawn on unwittingly, and only to desire. The purity
• 1:02:42
Speaker 6: of yoga is to pass beyond the shabdebrahm the spoken vade.
• 1:02:47
Speaker 6: But being Yogi, striving strong and long, purged from transgressions,
• 1:02:53
Speaker 6: perfected by births, following on births, he plants his feet
• 1:02:57
Speaker 6: at last upon the farther path. Such an one ranks
• 1:03:01
Speaker 6: above ascetics, higher than the wise, beyond achievers of vast deeds,
• 1:03:07
Speaker 6: be thou Yogi Arjuna, and of such believe truest and
• 1:03:12
Speaker 6: best is he who worships me with inmost soul stayed
• 1:03:17
Speaker 6: on my mystery. Here endeth Chapter six.
• 1:03:22
Speaker 7: Chapter seven. Christna, learn now, dear Prince, how if thy
• 1:03:28
Speaker 7: soul be set ever on me, still exercising you, still
• 1:03:33
Speaker 7: making me thy refuge, thou shalt come most surely into
• 1:03:37
Speaker 7: perfect hold of me. I'll declare to me that at
• 1:03:41
Speaker 7: most low, whole and particular, which when thou knowst leavest
• 1:03:46
Speaker 7: no more to know. Here in this world of many
• 1:03:49
Speaker 7: thousand mortals, one perchance striveth for truth. And of those
• 1:03:53
Speaker 7: few that strive me and rise high, one only here
• 1:03:57
Speaker 7: and there knoweth me as I am the very truth
• 1:04:00
Speaker 7: the earth, water, flame, air, ether, life, and mind, And
• 1:04:04
Speaker 7: individually those eight make up the showing of me manifest.
• 1:04:09
Speaker 7: These be my lower nature learn the higher. Whereby, though
• 1:04:13
Speaker 7: valiant one, his innivers is by its principle of life produced,
• 1:04:18
Speaker 7: whereby the worlds of visible things are born, as from
• 1:04:21
Speaker 7: a yonie. No I am that womb. I make and
• 1:04:24
Speaker 7: die unmake this universe than me. There is no other master, prince,
• 1:04:29
Speaker 7: no other maker. All these hang on me as hangs
• 1:04:33
Speaker 7: a row of pearlse upon its string. I am the
• 1:04:36
Speaker 7: fresh taste of the water. I the silver of the moon,
• 1:04:39
Speaker 7: the bold of the sun, the word of worship in
• 1:04:41
Speaker 7: the waves, the thrill that passeth in the ether, and
• 1:04:45
Speaker 7: the strength of a man's shed sea. I am the good,
• 1:04:48
Speaker 7: sweet smell of the moists in the earth. I am
• 1:04:50
Speaker 7: the fire's red light, a whtal air moving in all
• 1:04:53
Speaker 7: which moves, the holiness of hollowed souls, the root and
• 1:04:57
Speaker 7: dying whence hats sprung wateries, the wisdom of the wise,
• 1:05:01
Speaker 7: the intellect of the informed, the greatness of the great,
• 1:05:04
Speaker 7: the splendor of the splendid Unti's son. These am I
• 1:05:08
Speaker 7: free from passion and desire, Yet am I right desire
• 1:05:12
Speaker 7: in all who yearn chief of the Barathas, for all
• 1:05:16
Speaker 7: those moods soop fast or passionate or ignorant, which nature
• 1:05:20
Speaker 7: frames deduce from me. But all are merged in me,
• 1:05:24
Speaker 7: not I in them. The world deceived by those three
• 1:05:27
Speaker 7: qualities of being wotteth not me, who am outside them,
• 1:05:32
Speaker 7: all above them, all eternal. Hard it is to pierce
• 1:05:36
Speaker 7: that veil divine of various shows, which hideth me. Yet
• 1:05:40
Speaker 7: they who worship me pierce it and pass beyond. I
• 1:05:44
Speaker 7: am not known to evil doers, nor to foolish ones,
• 1:05:48
Speaker 7: nor to the base and churlish, nor to those whose
• 1:05:51
Speaker 7: mind is cheated by the show of things, nor those
• 1:05:54
Speaker 7: that take the way of asuras. Four sorts of mortals
• 1:05:58
Speaker 7: know me he who weeps Arjuna, and the man who
• 1:06:02
Speaker 7: yearns to know, and he who toils to help, and
• 1:06:06
Speaker 7: he who sits certain of me enlightened. Of these four, O,
• 1:06:11
Speaker 7: Prince of India, highest nearest best. That last is the
• 1:06:15
Speaker 7: duo's soul wise intent upon the one dear above all.
• 1:06:21
Speaker 7: Am I to him, and he is dearest and to
• 1:06:24
Speaker 7: me all for our good and seek me but mine, O,
• 1:06:28
Speaker 7: the two of heart, the faithful stayed on me, taking
• 1:06:32
Speaker 7: me as their utmost blessedness. They are not mine, But
• 1:06:36
Speaker 7: I even I myself art in love many births to me.
• 1:06:40
Speaker 7: They come yet hard The wise Mahatma is to find
• 1:06:44
Speaker 7: that man who saith all is was there there be
• 1:06:49
Speaker 7: those two whose knowledge turned aside by this desire or
• 1:06:53
Speaker 7: that gives them to serve some lower gods with various rights,
• 1:06:57
Speaker 7: constrained by that which molder them. Unto all such worship
• 1:07:02
Speaker 7: What shrine they will, what shapes in faith? It's I
• 1:07:06
Speaker 7: who give them faith. I am content the heart thus
• 1:07:10
Speaker 7: asking favor from its God. Darkened but ordered hath the end.
• 1:07:15
Speaker 7: It graves the lesser blessing. But it's I who give.
• 1:07:19
Speaker 7: Yet soon is withered. What small fruit they read? Those
• 1:07:23
Speaker 7: men of little minds who worship, so go where they worshiped,
• 1:07:27
Speaker 7: passing with their guards. But mind come unto me blind
• 1:07:31
Speaker 7: or the eyes which deemed unmanifested manifest not comprehending me
• 1:07:37
Speaker 7: in my true self, imperishable, ruseless, undeclared, hidden behind my
• 1:07:43
Speaker 7: magic veil of shows, I am not seen by all.
• 1:07:46
Speaker 7: I am not known, unborn and changeless to the idle world.
• 1:07:51
Speaker 7: But I arju not know all things which were, and
• 1:07:55
Speaker 7: all which are, and all which are to be. Albeit
• 1:07:58
Speaker 7: not one among them know me by passion for the
• 1:08:02
Speaker 7: past of opposites, by those twins slats of like and dislike. Prince,
• 1:08:09
Speaker 7: all creatures is bewildered, save some few who quit of sins,
• 1:08:14
Speaker 7: holy enact informed, freed from the opposites, and fixed in faith.
• 1:08:18
Speaker 7: Clave one to me who p who seek in me,
• 1:08:22
Speaker 7: refuse from birth and death. Those have the truth, those
• 1:08:26
Speaker 7: know me from Ma, know me soul of souls, the Adjakman,
• 1:08:32
Speaker 7: no karma my work, No I am. Are the Buddha
• 1:08:36
Speaker 7: lot of life? And are the Deva a lot of
• 1:08:40
Speaker 7: all the gods? And are then Lord of sacrifice. Worship
• 1:08:45
Speaker 7: me well with hearts of love and faith, and find
• 1:08:48
Speaker 7: and hold me in the hour of death. Here in
• 1:08:53
Speaker 7: the chapter seven, Chapter eight of Religion, by devotion to
• 1:08:57
Speaker 7: the One Supreme God O Juna. Who is that Brahma?
• 1:09:01
Speaker 7: What that soul of souls? The at the Yakman? What
• 1:09:04
Speaker 7: thou best of all thy work the Karma? Tell me
• 1:09:07
Speaker 7: what it is? Thou namest are the Buddha? What again
• 1:09:11
Speaker 7: means are the Deva a? And how it comes? Thou
• 1:09:14
Speaker 7: canst be Ja in thy flesh, slayer of Madhu. Further
• 1:09:18
Speaker 7: make me know how good men find THEE in the
• 1:09:20

Speaker 7: who none other God's regarding looks ever to me, easily

Speaker 7: not those mahatmass back to birth, to life, which is
• 1:12:04
Speaker 7: the place of pain which ends. But take the way

Speaker 7: of utmost pleasantness. The worlds a Juna, even Brahma's wild

Speaker 7: o Kunti's son Bla reach to me, taste birth no more.
• 1:12:20
Speaker 7: If he know Burma's day, which is a thousand yugas,

Speaker 7: if he know the thousand hugas making Brahmas night, then

Speaker 7: know ye day night, as he doth know. When that
• 1:12:32
Speaker 7: vast dawn doth break, the invisible is brought a new
• 1:12:36
Speaker 7: into the visible, when that deep night doth darken, all
• 1:12:40
Speaker 7: which is faced back again to him who sent it
• 1:12:43
Speaker 7: forth a This vast company of living things, again and
• 1:12:47
Speaker 7: yet again produced, expires at Brahmas nightfall, and at Bremas
• 1:12:52
Speaker 7: dawn rises without its will to life, newborn, but higher, deeper,
• 1:12:58
Speaker 7: innermost abidesther life. Not like the life of sense, escaping sight, unchanging.
• 1:13:05
Speaker 7: This endures when all created things have passed away. This
• 1:13:10
Speaker 7: is that life named the unmanifest, the infinite, the all,
• 1:13:15
Speaker 7: the aftermost thither, arriving non return. That life is mine,
• 1:13:20
Speaker 7: and I am there and trinds by faith which wanders not.
• 1:13:25
Speaker 7: There is a way to come thither. I the Purusha,
• 1:13:29
Speaker 7: I who spread the universe around me, in whom well
• 1:13:33
Speaker 7: all living things may so be rich and seen, richer
• 1:13:37
Speaker 7: than holy fruit on vedas, growing greater than gifts, better
• 1:13:41
Speaker 7: than prayer or fast. Such wisdom is the Yogi. This way,
• 1:13:46
Speaker 7: knowing comes to the utmost perfect peace. At last, Here

Speaker 7: indeth Chapter A of the Bagawad Guitar.
• 1:13:54
Speaker 8: Chapter nine of Religion. By the kingly knowledge and the
• 1:13:59
Speaker 8: kingly mystery Krishna. Now will I open unto thee whose
• 1:14:05
Speaker 8: heart rejects not that lost lore deepest conceal'd that farthest
• 1:14:12
Speaker 8: secret of my heavens and earths, which but to know
• 1:14:16
Speaker 8: shall set thee free from ills, A royal lore, a
• 1:14:21
Speaker 8: kingly mystery. Here for the soul, such light as purgeth
• 1:14:26
Speaker 8: it from every sin, a light of holiness, with inmost splendor,
• 1:14:31
Speaker 8: shining plain to see, easy to walk by, inexhaustible. They
• 1:14:38
Speaker 8: that receive not this, failing in faith to grasp the
• 1:14:42
Speaker 8: greater wisdom, reach not me, destroyer of thy foes. They
• 1:14:48
Speaker 8: sink anew into the realm of flesh, where all things
• 1:14:52
Speaker 8: change by me. The whole vast universe of things is
• 1:14:57
Speaker 8: spread abroad by me, the unmanifest in me. Are all
• 1:15:03
Speaker 8: existences contained, not I in them? Yet they are not
• 1:15:09
Speaker 8: contained Those visible things receive and strive to embrace the
• 1:15:15
Speaker 8: mystery majestical my being, creating, all sustaining, all still dwells
• 1:15:23
Speaker 8: outside of all. See as the shoreless airs move in
• 1:15:28
Speaker 8: the measureless space, but are not space and space wor
• 1:15:33
Speaker 8: space without the moving airs. So all things are in me,
• 1:15:39
Speaker 8: but are not I. At closing of each culpa Indian prints,
• 1:15:45
Speaker 8: all things which be back to My being come at
• 1:15:49
Speaker 8: the beginning of each culpa, all issue new born from
• 1:15:53
Speaker 8: me by energy and help of Procrithi, my outer self.
• 1:16:00
Speaker 8: Again and yet again I make go forth the realms
• 1:16:04
Speaker 8: of visible things without their will, all of them by
• 1:16:09
Speaker 8: the power of Procriti. Yet these great making sprints involve me,
• 1:16:16
Speaker 8: not and chain me. Not I sit apart from them,
• 1:16:20
Speaker 8: other and higher and free, no wise attached. Thus doth
• 1:16:26
Speaker 8: the stuff of worlds, molded by me bring forth all
• 1:16:30
Speaker 8: that which is moving or still living. Or lifeless. Thus
• 1:16:35
Speaker 8: the worlds go on the minds untaught, mistake me, veiled
• 1:16:41
Speaker 8: in form. Not see they of my secret presents, not
• 1:16:47
Speaker 8: of my hid nature, ruling all which lives, vain hopes,
• 1:16:52
Speaker 8: pursuing vain deeds, doing fed on vainest knowledge, senselessly they
• 1:16:59
Speaker 8: seek and eat will we the way of brutes and fiends.
• 1:17:03
Speaker 8: But my Mahatmas, those of noble soul who tread the
• 1:17:07
Speaker 8: path Celesteel, worship me with hearts unwandering, knowing me the sores,
• 1:17:13
Speaker 8: the eternal source of life. Unendingly, they glorify me, seek me,
• 1:17:20
Speaker 8: keep their vows of reverence and love with changeless faith,
• 1:17:25
Speaker 8: adoring me. Yea, and those two adore who, offering sacrifice
• 1:17:31
Speaker 8: of wakened hearts, have sense of one pervading spirit's stress,
• 1:17:37
Speaker 8: one force in every place, though manifold. I am the sacrifice,
• 1:17:44
Speaker 8: I am the prayer. I am the funeral cake set
• 1:17:48
Speaker 8: for the dead. I am the healing herb. I am
• 1:17:51
Speaker 8: the ghee, the mantra, and the flame, and that which burns.
• 1:17:57
Speaker 8: I am of all this boundless universe, the Father, Mother, Ancestor,
• 1:18:04
Speaker 8: and God, the end of learning, that which purifies in

Speaker 8: fountain and the sea of life, which sends and swallows
• 1:18:32
Speaker 8: up treasure of worlds and treasure chamber, seed and seed sower.
• 1:18:40
Speaker 8: Whence endless harvests spring, Sun's heat is mine, Heaven's rain
• 1:18:46
Speaker 8: is mine. To grant or to withhold death am I

Speaker 8: and immortal life. I am Arjuna sath A asuth visible

Speaker 8: weds who drink the Soma vine purge scents, pay sacrifice
• 1:19:08
Speaker 8: from me. They earn passage to Swerga, where the meats
• 1:19:12
Speaker 8: divine of great gods freed them in high Indra's heaven.
• 1:19:18
Speaker 8: Yet they, when that prodigious joy is o'er paradise, spent
• 1:19:23
Speaker 8: and wage for merits given, come to the world of
• 1:19:26
Speaker 8: death and change. Once more they had their recompense. They
• 1:19:32
Speaker 8: stored their treasure, following the Threefold Scripture and its writ
• 1:19:37
Speaker 8: who seeketh such gaineth the fleeting pleasure of joy which
• 1:19:41
Speaker 8: comes and goes. I grant them it. But to those
• 1:19:45
Speaker 8: blest ones who worship me, turning not otherwhere, with minds
• 1:19:50
Speaker 8: set fast, I bring assurance of full bliss beyond nay,
• 1:19:57
Speaker 8: and of hearts which follow other gods in simple faith.
• 1:20:01
Speaker 8: Their prayers arise to me, O count Thee's son, though
• 1:20:04
Speaker 8: they pray wrongfully, for I am the receiver and the
• 1:20:09
Speaker 8: lord of every sacrifice, which these know not rightfully. So
• 1:20:14
Speaker 8: they fall to earth again. Who follow gods go to
• 1:20:18
Speaker 8: their gods, who wow their souls to pythres, Go to pythres,
• 1:20:23
Speaker 8: minds to evil boots given o'er sink to the boots.
• 1:20:28
Speaker 8: And whoso loveth me cometh to me, who so shall
• 1:20:32
Speaker 8: offer me in faith and love a leaf, a flower,
• 1:20:37
Speaker 8: a fruit, water poured forth. That offering I accept lovingly,

Speaker 8: made with pious will. Whatever thou doest, prince, eating or sacrificing,
• 1:20:50
Speaker 8: giving gifts, praying or fasting, let it all be done
• 1:20:55
Speaker 8: for me as mine. So shalt thou free thyself from kermaband,
• 1:21:02
Speaker 8: the chain which holdeth men to good and evil issue.
• 1:21:06
Speaker 8: So shalt come safe unto me, when thou art quit

Speaker 8: of flesh by faith and abdication, join'd to me. I
• 1:21:16
Speaker 8: am alike, for all I know not hate I know
• 1:21:20
Speaker 8: not favor. What is made is mine. But them that
• 1:21:24
Speaker 8: worship me with love I love. They are in me,
• 1:21:28
Speaker 8: and I in them. Nay, Prince, if one of evil
• 1:21:33
Speaker 8: life turn in his thought straitly to me, count him
• 1:21:38
Speaker 8: amidst the good he hath the highway chosen, He shall
• 1:21:43
Speaker 8: grow righteous. Ere long he shall attain that peace which changes. Not, Thou,
• 1:21:50
Speaker 8: Prince of India, be certain none can perish trusting me
• 1:21:55
Speaker 8: O Britha's son. Whoso will turn to me, though they

Speaker 8: only knoweth only he is free from sin and wise,
• 1:23:19
Speaker 8: who seeth me, Lord of the worlds, with faith, enlightened eyes, unborn, undying, unbegun.
• 1:23:28
Speaker 8: Whatever natures be to mortal men distributed, those natures spring
• 1:23:34
Speaker 8: from me, intellect, skill, enlightenment, endurance, self control, truthfulness, equability
• 1:23:43
Speaker 8: and grief or joy of soul, and birth and death,
• 1:23:47
Speaker 8: and fearfulness and fearlessness and shame and honor and sweet

• 1:24:29
Speaker 8: world the races of mankind. Wherefrom who comprehends my reign
• 1:24:35
Speaker 8: of mystic majesty? That truth of truths is thenceforth linked
• 1:24:40
Speaker 8: in faultless faith to me, yea, knowing me the source

Speaker 8: And unto these, thus serving well, thus loving ceaselessly, I

Speaker 7: Chapter thirty of Religion, by separation of matter and spirit. Jina,
• 1:56:27
Speaker 7: Now would I hear O gracious quesoa of life which
• 1:56:30
Speaker 7: seems and soul beyond which sees, and what it is
• 1:56:34
Speaker 7: we know or seem to know. Krishna, Yes, son of Kunti,
• 1:56:40
Speaker 7: For this flesh e c is chetra is the field
• 1:56:44
Speaker 7: where life disposed, and that which views and knows it
• 1:56:48
Speaker 7: is a soul Chethratna in all fields. Though Indian Prince,
• 1:56:53
Speaker 7: I am Chethrakna. I am what surveys, only that knowledge knows,
• 1:56:58
Speaker 7: which knows the known by the over. What it is
• 1:57:02
Speaker 7: that field of life, what qualities it hath and whence
• 1:57:06
Speaker 7: it is? And why it change? And the faculty that
• 1:57:09
Speaker 7: votereth it, the mightiness of this and how it voteth
• 1:57:14
Speaker 7: Hear these things from me the elements, the conscious life,
• 1:57:18
Speaker 7: the mind, the unseen vital force, and nine great gates
• 1:57:22
Speaker 7: of the body, or the five domains of sense. Desire
• 1:57:27
Speaker 7: is like pleasure and pain, and thought, deep oven and
• 1:57:31
Speaker 7: persistency of being. These all are wrought on matter by
• 1:57:35
Speaker 7: the soul. Humbleness, truthfulness and harmlessness, patience and honor, reverence
• 1:57:42
Speaker 7: for the vice, purity, constancy, control of self, contempt of sense, delights,
• 1:57:48
Speaker 7: self sacrifice, perception of the sertitude of ill in birth, death,
• 1:57:54
Speaker 7: a disease, suffering and sin, detachment, lightlyholding a hope, children
• 1:58:01
Speaker 7: and wife, and all that minded men, and ever tranquil heart,
• 1:58:06
Speaker 7: in fortune's good and fortune's evil, with a will set
• 1:58:09
Speaker 7: firm to worship me me only, ceasing not loving all solitudes,
• 1:58:14
Speaker 7: and shunning noise of foolish crowds, endeavors, resolute to reach
• 1:58:19
Speaker 7: perception of the utmost soul and grace, to understand what
• 1:58:22
Speaker 7: gain it were so to attain. This is true isdom, friends,
• 1:58:27
Speaker 7: and what is otherwise his ignorance? Now will I speak
• 1:58:31
Speaker 7: of knowledge? Best to know the truth which giveth man
• 1:58:34
Speaker 7: amored to drink the truth of him A parabrum, the
• 1:58:39
Speaker 7: all the uncreated, not a set, not seth not form
• 1:58:45
Speaker 7: nor the unformed, yet both and more, whose hands are
• 1:58:49
Speaker 7: everywhere and everywhere, planted, his feet and everywhere, his eyes beholding,
• 1:58:55
Speaker 7: and his ears in every place, hearing, and all his faces,
• 1:58:59
Speaker 7: every enlightening and encompassing, his worlds glorified by the senses
• 1:59:05
Speaker 7: he hath given. Yet beyond sense he is sustaining all.
• 1:59:10
Speaker 7: He dwelleth unattached of forms and modes. Master, yet neither
• 1:59:15
Speaker 7: form nor mode hath he. He is within all beings
• 1:59:18
Speaker 7: and without, motionless, yet still moving, not discerned for subtility
• 1:59:24
Speaker 7: of instant presence, close to all, to each, yet measurelessly
• 1:59:29
Speaker 7: far not manifold, and yet subsisting still in all which lives,
• 1:59:34
Speaker 7: forever to be known as the Sustainer. Yet at the
• 1:59:37
Speaker 7: end of times he maketh all to end, and recreates
• 1:59:42
Speaker 7: the light of lights. He is in the heart of
• 1:59:45
Speaker 7: the dark, shining eternally. Wisdom he is, and Wisdom's way
• 1:59:50
Speaker 7: and gad of all the wise, planted every heart. So
• 1:59:54
Speaker 7: have I told of life's stuff and the molding and
• 1:59:57
Speaker 7: the lore to comprehend. Whoso adoring me perceiveth this shall
• 2:00:03
Speaker 7: surely come to me. Know thou that nature and the

Speaker 7: Spirit both have no piginny know that qualities and changes
• 2:00:11
Speaker 7: of them are by nature wrought. The nature puts toward

Speaker 7: the acting frame, but spirit that inform it, and so
• 2:00:18
Speaker 7: cause feeling of pain and pleasure. Spirit linked to more
• 2:00:22
Speaker 7: that matter entered into bond with qualities by nature frame,
• 2:00:27
Speaker 7: And does marriage to matter reash the birth again in
• 2:00:31
Speaker 7: good or evil? Younies, Yet is this a in its
• 2:00:36
Speaker 7: body reprison spirit, pure spirit, supreme, surveying, governing, guarding, possessing,
• 2:00:43
Speaker 7: Lord and master, still Purusha ultimate One's soul with me.
• 2:00:48
Speaker 7: Whoso thus knows himself and knows his soul pusha working
• 2:00:53
Speaker 7: through the qualities which Nature's moves. The light hath come
• 2:00:56
Speaker 7: for him. Whatever flesh he bears never again shall take
• 2:01:00
Speaker 7: on its load. Some few, there be, by meditation, find
• 2:01:03
Speaker 7: the soul him self self school, and some by long
• 2:01:07
Speaker 7: philosophy and holy life reach thither. Some by words, some
• 2:01:12
Speaker 7: never so attaining hear of light from other lips and seas,
• 2:01:17
Speaker 7: and pleieve to eat worshiping a, and those to teaching
• 2:01:21
Speaker 7: true overpast death. Wherever Indian prince life is of moving
• 2:01:27
Speaker 7: things or things unknown, plant or still see, know what
• 2:01:33
Speaker 7: is there? Hath grown by bond of matter and spirit.
• 2:01:37
Speaker 7: No he sees, indeed, who sees in all alike the
• 2:01:41
Speaker 7: living lordly soul, the soul supreme, imperishable amid the perishing.
• 2:01:47
Speaker 7: For whoso thus beholds in every place, in every form
• 2:01:51
Speaker 7: the saying one living Lord death, no more wrongfulness unto himself,
• 2:01:57
Speaker 7: but goes the highest road which brings to bliss. Seeing
• 2:02:00
Speaker 7: he sees, indeed, who sees that works our nature's owned
• 2:02:05
Speaker 7: for soul to use, not love acting, Yet not the
• 2:02:09
Speaker 7: actor sees the mass of separate living things, each of
• 2:02:13
Speaker 7: its kind, issue from one and blend again to one.
• 2:02:17
Speaker 7: Then hath he Brahma. He attains, o Prince, that ultimate
• 2:02:22
Speaker 7: high Spirit, uncreate, unqualified, even when it entereth flesh, taketh
• 2:02:28
Speaker 7: no stain of acts, worketh in naught, like to the
• 2:02:32
Speaker 7: a thrial air, pro pervading all which for sheer subtility
• 2:02:37
Speaker 7: avoid attaint. The subtle soul sits everywhere unstained, like to
• 2:02:43
Speaker 7: the light of all piercing sun, which is not changed
• 2:02:46
Speaker 7: by art. It shines upon the soul's light shine a
• 2:02:50
Speaker 7: few in every place. And they who by such eye
• 2:02:53
Speaker 7: of wisdom see how matter and what deals with it divide,
• 2:02:58
Speaker 7: and how the spirit and the flyg have strived. These
• 2:03:01
Speaker 7: visons go the way which leads to life. Here endeth
• 2:03:06
Speaker 7: Chapter thirteen of the Babaatita, Chapter fourteen of Religion. By
• 2:03:12
Speaker 7: separation from the qualities Krishna at Father, will I open
• 2:03:17
Speaker 7: unto thee This wisdom of all wisdoms uttermost the witch
• 2:03:22
Speaker 7: possessing all my saints have passed to perfectness on these
• 2:03:27
Speaker 7: high verities, reliant, rising into fellowship with me. They are
• 2:03:32
Speaker 7: not born again at birth of Kalpas, nor traias suffer change.
• 2:03:38
Speaker 7: This inverse the womb is where I plant seed of
• 2:03:41
Speaker 7: all lives. Then Prince of India comes birth to all
• 2:03:45
Speaker 7: beings who so put the son mothers each mortal form
• 2:03:49
Speaker 7: from not conceives, And I am he that fathers sending seed. Satwan,
• 2:03:55
Speaker 7: Rajas and Thomas so are named the qualities of nature soothfastness, passion,
• 2:04:02
Speaker 7: and ignorance. These three bind down the changeless spirit in
• 2:04:06
Speaker 7: the changeful flesh were off sweet soothfastness by purity, living
• 2:04:12
Speaker 7: unsullied and enlightened binds the sinless soul to happiness and
• 2:04:16
Speaker 7: truth and passion. Being kin to appetite and breeding. Impulse
• 2:04:21
Speaker 7: and propensity binds the embodied soul oh conti son by
• 2:04:26
Speaker 7: tie of words, but ignorance, the child of darkness, blinding
• 2:04:31
Speaker 7: mortal men binds down their souls to stupor, sloth and drowsiness. Ye,
• 2:04:36
Speaker 7: Prince of India. Soothfastness binds souls in present wise to flesh,
• 2:04:41
Speaker 7: and passion binds by toilsome strain. But ignorance, which blots
• 2:04:46
Speaker 7: the beams of wisdom, binds the soul to sloth, passion
• 2:04:50
Speaker 7: and ignorance. Once overcome leave south fastness O barata. Where this,
• 2:04:56
Speaker 7: with ignorance or absent, passion rules and ignornorance, and hearts
• 2:05:01
Speaker 7: not good nor quick, and at all gateways of the
• 2:05:04
Speaker 7: body shines the lamp of knowledge. Then may one see
• 2:05:08
Speaker 7: well soothfastness settled in that stea rings where longing is
• 2:05:13
Speaker 7: and order and unrest, impulse to strive and gay and
• 2:05:18
Speaker 7: a waress those spring from passion, Prince and grain, and
• 2:05:23
Speaker 7: where darkness and dulness, loth and stupor or its ignorance
• 2:05:28
Speaker 7: hath caused them Kuru chief. Moreover, when a soul departed
• 2:05:32
Speaker 7: fixed in soothfastness, it goeth to the place perfect and
• 2:05:37
Speaker 7: pure of those that know all truth. If it departed
• 2:05:41
Speaker 7: in set habitue of impulse, it shall go into the
• 2:05:44
Speaker 7: world of spirits tried to words. And if it dies
• 2:05:48
Speaker 7: in hardened ignorance, that blinded soul is born and new
• 2:05:53
Speaker 7: in some unlighted womb. The fruit of soothfastness is true
• 2:05:57
Speaker 7: and sweet. The fruit of loss is pain and toil.
• 2:06:01
Speaker 7: The fruit of ignorance is deeper darkness. A for light
• 2:06:05
Speaker 7: brings light and passion. Eight to have blindness, bewilderments, and
• 2:06:11
Speaker 7: ignorance grow forth from ignorance. Those of the first pries
• 2:06:15
Speaker 7: ever higher those of the second mode take a mid place.
• 2:06:20
Speaker 7: The darkened soul sink back to lower deeps, loaded with witlessness.
• 2:06:26
Speaker 7: When watching life, the living man perceives the only actors
• 2:06:30
Speaker 7: are the qualities, and knows what lives beyond the qualities.
• 2:06:34
Speaker 7: Then easy come nigh unto me. The soul, thus passing
• 2:06:39
Speaker 7: forth from the three qualities whereof aries all bodies overcomes birth, death, sorrow,
• 2:06:45
Speaker 7: and age, and drinketh deep the undying wine of humors. Arjuna, Oh,
• 2:06:53
Speaker 7: my Lord, which be the signs to know him? That
• 2:06:55
Speaker 7: have gone past the three modes? How liveth he? What
• 2:06:59
Speaker 7: will leadeth him safe beyond the three four modes? Krishna
• 2:07:04
Speaker 7: He who, with equanimity surveys luster of goodness, strife of passion,
• 2:07:09
Speaker 7: sloth of ignorance, not angry if they are not angry
• 2:07:13
Speaker 7: when they are not. He who sits a sojourner and
• 2:07:17
Speaker 7: stranger in their midst, unruffled, standing off, saying serene when
• 2:07:22
Speaker 7: troubles break. These are the qualities he and to whom
• 2:07:26
Speaker 7: self centered grief and joy sound as convert to whose
• 2:07:30
Speaker 7: deep seeing eyes, the cloud, the marble, and the gold
• 2:07:33
Speaker 7: are one whose equal heart holds the same gentleness for
• 2:07:38
Speaker 7: lovely and unlovely things, firm set, well, pleased in praise
• 2:07:42
Speaker 7: and dispraise, satisfied with honor or dishonor, unto friends and
• 2:07:48
Speaker 7: unto force, alike intolerance detached from undertakings. He's named surmounter
• 2:07:53
Speaker 7: of the qualities and search with single fervent faith, alluring me,
• 2:07:58
Speaker 7: pausing beyond the equality conforms to Brahman attains me, for
• 2:08:03
Speaker 7: I am that whereof Rima is the l likeness mine,
• 2:08:07
Speaker 7: the amarit is, and immortality is mine and mind perfect felicity.
• 2:08:15
Speaker 7: Here ends chapter fourteen of the babod Ghita.
• 2:08:18
Speaker 8: Chapter fifteen of religion. By attaining the supreme Krishna, men
• 2:08:27
Speaker 8: call the Ashwata, the Banyan tree, which had its boughs
• 2:08:31
Speaker 8: beneath its roots on high, the ever holy tree Yeah,
• 2:08:36
Speaker 8: for its leaves are green and waving hymns which whisper truth.
• 2:08:40
Speaker 8: Who knoweth well the Ashwata knows all its branches shoot
• 2:08:46
Speaker 8: to heaven and sink to earth, even as the deeds
• 2:08:49
Speaker 8: of men, which take their birth from qualities. Its silver
• 2:08:55
Speaker 8: sprays and blooms, and all the eager verdue of its
• 2:08:59
Speaker 8: girth leap to quick life at touch of sun and air.
• 2:09:04
Speaker 8: As men's lives quicken to the tempting sphere of wooing sense,
• 2:09:10
Speaker 8: its hanging rootlets seek the soil beneath, helping to hold
• 2:09:14
Speaker 8: it there, as actions wrot amid this world of men
• 2:09:20
Speaker 8: bind them by ever tightening bonds. Again, if ye knew
• 2:09:24
Speaker 8: well the teaching of the tree, what its shape saith,
• 2:09:29
Speaker 8: and whence it springs, and then how it must end,
• 2:09:34
Speaker 8: and all the ills of it the acts of sharp detachment,
• 2:09:39
Speaker 8: ye would wet and cleave the clinging, snaky roots, and
• 2:09:44
Speaker 8: lay this Ashwata of sense like low, to set new
• 2:09:49
Speaker 8: growths up, springing to that happier sky which they who
• 2:09:55
Speaker 8: reach shall have no day to die nor fade away,
• 2:10:00
Speaker 8: nor fall to him. I mean Father in first, who
• 2:10:04
Speaker 8: make the mystery of old creation. For to him come
• 2:10:09
Speaker 8: they from passion and from dreams, who break away, who
• 2:10:14
Speaker 8: part the bonds constraining them to flesh, and him the
• 2:10:19
Speaker 8: highest worshipping away no longer grow at mercy of what
• 2:10:24
Speaker 8: breeze of summer pleasure stirs the sleeping trees, what blast
• 2:10:29
Speaker 8: of tempest tears them bow and stem to the eternal
• 2:10:34
Speaker 8: world pass such as these, Another sun gleams there, another moon,
• 2:10:40
Speaker 8: another light, a light which none shall lack, whose eyes
• 2:10:45
Speaker 8: once see, for those return no more. They have attain'd
• 2:10:50
Speaker 8: my uttermost abode. When in this world of manifested life,
• 2:10:57
Speaker 8: the undying spirit, setting forth from me, taketh on form.
• 2:11:02
Speaker 8: It draweth to itself, from Being's storehouse, which containeth all
• 2:11:09
Speaker 8: senses and intellect, the sovereign soul, thus entering the flesh
• 2:11:15
Speaker 8: or quitting it gathers these up as the wind gathers
• 2:11:19
Speaker 8: sense blowing above the flower banks, ear and eye, and
• 2:11:24
Speaker 8: touch and taste and smelling these it takes yeah, and
• 2:11:30
Speaker 8: a sentient mind, linking itself to sense, thinks. So the
• 2:11:37
Speaker 8: unenlightened ones mark not that spirit when he goes or comes,
• 2:11:43
Speaker 8: nor when he takes his pleasure in the form conjoined
• 2:11:47
Speaker 8: with qualities. But those see plane who have the eyes
• 2:11:52
Speaker 8: to see holy souls sea, which strive there too enlightened,
• 2:11:59
Speaker 8: they behold that spirit in themselves. But foolish ones, even
• 2:12:04
Speaker 8: though they strive, discern not having hearts unkindled, ill informed.
• 2:12:12
Speaker 8: No two from me shineth the gather'd glory of the sun,
• 2:12:17
Speaker 8: which lightens all the world. From me, the moon draws
• 2:12:22
Speaker 8: silvery beams and fire fierce loveliness. I penetrate the clay
• 2:12:29
Speaker 8: and lend all shapes their living force. I glide into
• 2:12:33
Speaker 8: the plant its root, leaf bloom, to make the woodland
• 2:12:38
Speaker 8: green with springing sap, becoming whiteal warmth. I glow in
• 2:12:44
Speaker 8: glad respiring frames, and pass with outward and with inward breadth,
• 2:12:51
Speaker 8: to feed the body with all meats. For in this
• 2:12:55
Speaker 8: world being is twofold, the divided one, the undivided one.
• 2:13:02
Speaker 8: All things that live are the divided that which sits apart,
• 2:13:07
Speaker 8: the undivided. Higher still is one, the highest holding all,
• 2:13:14
Speaker 8: whose name is Lord, the eternal sovereign first, who feels
• 2:13:20
Speaker 8: all worlds, sustaining them and dwelling Thus beyond divided life
• 2:13:26
Speaker 8: and undivided I am called of men, invade us, God Supreme,
• 2:13:33
Speaker 8: the Purushotama, who knows me. Thus with mind unclouded, knoweth
• 2:13:40
Speaker 8: all dear Prince, and with his whole soul ever worshipeth me.
• 2:13:47
Speaker 8: Now is the sacred secret mystery declared to THEE who
• 2:13:52
Speaker 8: comprehendeth this hath wisdom. He is quit of works in bliss.
• 2:13:59
Speaker 8: Here ends Chapter fifteen.
• 2:14:03
Speaker 7: Chapter sixteen of the separateness of the divine and the
• 2:14:07
Speaker 7: undivined Christna, fearlessness, singleness of soul, the will always to
• 2:14:13
Speaker 7: strive for wisdom, opened hand and governed appetites and piety,
• 2:14:19
Speaker 7: and love of lonely study, humbleness, uprightness, heed to endure
• 2:14:24
Speaker 7: nought which leaves truthfulness, slowness and too wrath. A mind
• 2:14:30
Speaker 7: that lightly leteth go what others prize and equanimity and charity,
• 2:14:36
Speaker 7: which spireth no man's faults, and tenderness towards all that suffer.
• 2:14:42
Speaker 7: A contented heart fluttered by no desires, a bearing mild,
• 2:14:47
Speaker 7: modest and grave, with manhood nobly mixed with patience, fortitude,
• 2:14:52
Speaker 7: and purity, an unrevengeful spirit never given to rate itself
• 2:14:57
Speaker 7: too high, Such be the signs, O Indian Prince, of
• 2:15:01
Speaker 7: him whose feet are set on that fair path which
• 2:15:05
Speaker 7: leads to heavenly birth. The sitfulness and arrogance, and pride,
• 2:15:10
Speaker 7: quickness to anger, harshened, evil speech, and ignorance to its
• 2:15:15
Speaker 7: own darkness. These be the signs, my Prince, of whose
• 2:15:20
Speaker 7: birth is fated for the regions of the wild. The
• 2:15:23
Speaker 7: heavenly birth brings to deliverance. So shouldst thou know the
• 2:15:28
Speaker 7: birth with asuras brings into bondage. Be thou, joyous prince
• 2:15:34
Speaker 7: whose lot is set apart for heavenly birth, two stamps
• 2:15:38
Speaker 7: there or marked, and all living men divine and divine.
• 2:15:42
Speaker 7: I speak to thee by what monrks thou shouldst know?
• 2:15:47
Speaker 7: The heavenly man hear from me now of the unheavenly
• 2:15:51
Speaker 7: they comprehend. Not the unhavenly households go forth from me,
• 2:15:57
Speaker 7: nor how they come back unto me. Nor is their
• 2:16:00
Speaker 7: truth in these, nor purity nor rule of life. This
• 2:16:04
Speaker 7: world hath not a law, nor order, nor a lord,
• 2:16:09
Speaker 7: so say they, nor hath risen up by cause, following
• 2:16:13
Speaker 7: on cause imperfect purposing, But is none other than house
• 2:16:18
Speaker 7: of lust and this thing thinking all those weened ones

Speaker 6: Vita, Chapter eighteen, Arjuna, fain, would I better know thou,
• 2:24:33
Speaker 6: glorious one, the very truth Heart's Lord of sanyas, abstintion
• 2:24:38
Speaker 6: and renunciation, Lord Tia, and what separates these twain Krishna.
• 2:24:46
Speaker 6: The poets rightly teach that Sunyas is the foregoing of
• 2:24:50
Speaker 6: all acts which spring out of desire, and their wisest
• 2:24:54
Speaker 6: say tiaga is renouncing fruit of acts. There be among
• 2:24:59
Speaker 6: the same some who have held all action sinful and
• 2:25:03
Speaker 6: to be renounced, and some who answer nay, the goodly
• 2:25:07
Speaker 6: acts as worship penance alms must be performed. Here now
• 2:25:13
Speaker 6: my sentence, best of Barreta's, tis well set forth, O
• 2:25:18
Speaker 6: chaser of thy foes. Renunciation is of threefold form, and
• 2:25:23
Speaker 6: worship penance alms not to be stayed, nay to be
• 2:25:28
Speaker 6: gladly done. For all those three are purifying waters for
• 2:25:32
Speaker 6: true souls. Yet must be practiced, even those high works,
• 2:25:37
Speaker 6: in yielding up attachment and all fruit produced by works.
• 2:25:42
Speaker 6: This is my judgment, Prince, This my insuperable and fixed decree.
• 2:25:48
Speaker 6: Abstaining from a work, by right prescribed never is meet.
• 2:25:53
Speaker 6: So to abstain doth spring from darkness and delusion. Teacheth it.
• 2:25:58
Speaker 6: Abstaining from a work grievous to flesh when one saith
• 2:26:02
Speaker 6: tis unpleasing. This is null. Such an one acts from passion,
• 2:26:08
Speaker 6: not of gain, wins his renunciation, but ar june, abstaining
• 2:26:13
Speaker 6: from attachment to the work, abstaining from rewardment and the work.
• 2:26:18
Speaker 6: While yet one doeth it full faithfully, saying tis right
• 2:26:22
Speaker 6: to do that is true act and abstinence. Who doeth
• 2:26:27
Speaker 6: duty so unvexed if his work fail, if it succeed,
• 2:26:32
Speaker 6: unflattered in his own heart, justified, quit of debates and doubts,
• 2:26:38
Speaker 6: his is true act. For being in the body, none
• 2:26:43
Speaker 6: may stand wholly aloof from act. Yet who abstains from
• 2:26:47
Speaker 6: profit of his acts is abstinent. The fruit of labours
• 2:26:52
Speaker 6: and the lives to come is threefold for all men,
• 2:26:56
Speaker 6: desirable and undesirable, and mixed of both. But no fruit
• 2:27:01
Speaker 6: is at all where no work was here from me,
• 2:27:06
Speaker 6: long armed Lord. The makings five which go to every
• 2:27:09
Speaker 6: act in Sankia, taught as necessary, first the force, and
• 2:27:15
Speaker 6: then the agent, next the various instruments, forth the especial effort, faith,
• 2:27:22
Speaker 6: the God. What worksoever any mortal doth of body, mind,
• 2:27:28
Speaker 6: or speech, evil or good? By these five doth he
• 2:27:32
Speaker 6: that which being Thus, whoso, for lack of knowledge, seeth
• 2:27:37
Speaker 6: himself as the sole actor, knoweth not at all and
• 2:27:41
Speaker 6: seeth not. Therefore, I say, if one holding aloof him
• 2:27:47
Speaker 6: self with unstained mind should slay all yonder host, being
• 2:27:52
Speaker 6: bid to slay, he doth not slay. He is not
• 2:27:56
Speaker 6: bound thereby knowledge. The thing known in the mind which
• 2:28:01
Speaker 6: knows these make the threefold starting ground of act, the act,
• 2:28:06
Speaker 6: the actor, and the instrument. These make the threefold total
• 2:28:11
Speaker 6: of the deed. But knowledge, agent, act are differenced by
• 2:28:16
Speaker 6: three dividing qualities. Here now, which be the qualities dividing them.
• 2:28:22
Speaker 6: There is true knowledge. Learn now. It is this to
• 2:28:26
Speaker 6: see one changeless life in all the lives, and in
• 2:28:31
Speaker 6: the separate one inseparable. There is imperfect knowledge, that which
• 2:28:37
Speaker 6: sees the separate existences apart, and being separated, holds them real.
• 2:28:44
Speaker 6: There is false knowledge that which blindly clings to one,
• 2:28:48
Speaker 6: as if twere all seeking no cause, deprived of light,
• 2:28:53
Speaker 6: narrow and dull and dark. There is right action, that which,
• 2:29:00
Speaker 6: being enjoined, is wrought without attachment, passionlessly for duty, not
• 2:29:06
Speaker 6: for love, nor hate nor gain. There is vain action,
• 2:29:12
Speaker 6: that which men pursue, aching dissatisfied desires, impelled by sense
• 2:29:17
Speaker 6: of self, with all absorbing stress. This is of Rajah's
• 2:29:22
Speaker 6: passionate and vain. There is dark action. When one doth
• 2:29:27
Speaker 6: a thing heedless of issues, heedless of the hurt or
• 2:29:31
Speaker 6: wrong for others, heedless if he harm his own soul,
• 2:29:35
Speaker 6: tis of Tamas black and bad. There is the rightful doer,
• 2:29:42
Speaker 6: he who acts free from self seeking, humble, resolute, steadfast
• 2:29:48
Speaker 6: in good or evil, hap the same content to do
• 2:29:52
Speaker 6: aright he truly acts. There is the impassioned doer, he
• 2:29:58
Speaker 6: that works from impulse seeking profit, rude, and bold to overcome,
• 2:30:04
Speaker 6: unchastened slave by turns of sorrow and of joy of
• 2:30:09
Speaker 6: Rajah's He. And there be evildoers loose of heart, low minded, stubborn, fraudulent, remiss, dull, slow,
• 2:30:20
Speaker 6: despondent children of the dark. Here too, of intellect insteadfastness,
• 2:30:27
Speaker 6: the threefold separation conqueror prince. How these are set apart
• 2:30:32
Speaker 6: by qualities. Good is the intellect which comprehends the coming
• 2:30:37
Speaker 6: forth and going back of life, what must be done
• 2:30:41
Speaker 6: and what must not be done, What should be feared
• 2:30:44
Speaker 6: and what should not be feared, What binds and what
• 2:30:48
Speaker 6: emancipates the soul that is of sut One, prince of sooth.
• 2:30:53
Speaker 6: Fastness marred is the intellect which, knowing right and knowing wrong,
• 2:30:59
Speaker 6: and what is well to do and what must not
• 2:31:02
Speaker 6: be done, yet understands not with firm mind, nor as
• 2:31:06
Speaker 6: the calm truth is. This is of Rajah's Prince, and passionate.
• 2:31:13
Speaker 6: Evil is intellect, which wrapped in gloom, looks upon wrong
• 2:31:17
Speaker 6: as right, and sees all things contrariwise of truth. O
• 2:31:23
Speaker 6: Prita's son, that is of Tamas, dark and desperate. Good
• 2:31:30
Speaker 6: is the steadfastness, whereby a man masters his beats of heart,
• 2:31:34
Speaker 6: his very breath of life, the action of his senses
• 2:31:38
Speaker 6: fixed in never shaken faith and piety. That is of
• 2:31:43
Speaker 6: sut One Prince, soothe, fast and fair stained. Is the
• 2:31:48
Speaker 6: steadfastness whereby a man holds to his duty, purpose, effort,
• 2:31:53
Speaker 6: end for life's sake, and the love of goods to gain.
• 2:31:58
Speaker 6: Arjuna tis of Raja's passion stamped sad is the steadfastness
• 2:32:05
Speaker 6: wherewith the fool cleaves to his sloth, his sorrow, and
• 2:32:09
Speaker 6: his fears, his folly in despair. This Prita's son is
• 2:32:15
Speaker 6: born of Tamas, dark and miserable. Hear further, Chief of
• 2:32:21
Speaker 6: Bartas from me the threefold kinds of pleasure which there be.
• 2:32:27
Speaker 6: Good Pleasure is the pleasure that endures banishing pain for eye,
• 2:32:33
Speaker 6: bitter at first as poison to the soul, but afterward
• 2:32:37
Speaker 6: sweet as the taste of omrit. Drink of that it
• 2:32:42
Speaker 6: springeth in the spirit's deep content and painful pleasure springeth
• 2:32:47
Speaker 6: from the bond between the senses and the sense world.
• 2:32:51
Speaker 6: Sweet as amrit is its first taste, but its last
• 2:32:55
Speaker 6: bitter as poison tis of Raja's Prince. And foul and
• 2:33:00
Speaker 6: dark the pleasure is which springs from sloth and sin
• 2:33:04
Speaker 6: and foolishness at first and at the last, and all
• 2:33:09
Speaker 6: the way of life. The soul bewildering tis of Tama's prince.
• 2:33:15
Speaker 6: For nothing lives on earth, nor midst the gods in
• 2:33:18
Speaker 6: utmost heaven, but hath its being bound with these three
• 2:33:22
Speaker 6: qualities by nature framed. The work of Brahmins Kashatriyas, Vashias
• 2:33:29
Speaker 6: and Sudras. O thou slayer of thy foes, is fixed
• 2:33:33
Speaker 6: by reason of the qualities planted in each. A Brahmin's
• 2:33:38
Speaker 6: virtues prince born of his nature are serenity, self, mastery, religion, purity, patience, uprightness, learning,
• 2:33:49
Speaker 6: and to know the truth of things which be A
• 2:33:53
Speaker 6: Kashatria's pride born of his nature lives in valor, fire, constancy, skins, skillfulness,
• 2:34:01
Speaker 6: spirit and fight, and open handedness, and noble mien as
• 2:34:06
Speaker 6: of a lord of men. A vicias task born with
• 2:34:10
Speaker 6: his nature is to till the ground, tend cattle, venture trade,
• 2:34:16
Speaker 6: a sudorous state suiting his nature is to minister whoso
• 2:34:22
Speaker 6: performeth diligent content the work allotted him, whate'er it be,
• 2:34:28
Speaker 6: lays hold of perfectness. Here how a man findeth perfection,
• 2:34:34
Speaker 6: being so content, He findeth it through worship wrought by
• 2:34:39
Speaker 6: work of him, that is the source of all which
• 2:34:43
Speaker 6: lives of him, by whom the universe was stretched better
• 2:34:48
Speaker 6: Thine own work is, though done with fault, than doing
• 2:34:52
Speaker 6: others work even excellently. He shall not fall in sin
• 2:34:57
Speaker 6: who fronts the task set him by nature.
• 2:35:00
  Speaker 8: Hand.
• 2:35:01
Speaker 6: Let no man leave his natural duty. Prince, though it
• 2:35:05
Speaker 6: bear blame for every work, hath blame, as every flame
• 2:35:10
Speaker 6: is wrapped in smoke. Only that man attains perfect surces
• 2:35:15
Speaker 6: of work, whose work was wrought with mind, unfettered soul,
• 2:35:20
Speaker 6: wholly subdued desires, forever dead, results renounced. Learn from me,
• 2:35:27
Speaker 6: son of Kunti, also this how one attaining perfect peace
• 2:35:33
Speaker 6: attains Brahm, the supreme, the highest height of all, devoted
• 2:35:39
Speaker 6: with a heart grown pure, restrained in lordly self control,
• 2:35:44
Speaker 6: foregoing wiles of song and senses, freed from love and hate,
• 2:35:50
Speaker 6: dwelling mid solitudes in diet, spare with body speech, and
• 2:35:56
Speaker 6: will tame to obey ever to Holy Meday, meditation vowed
• 2:36:01
Speaker 6: from passions, liberate, quit of the self of arrogance, impatience, anger, pride,
• 2:36:09
Speaker 6: Freed from surroundings, quiet, lacking nought, such an one grows
• 2:36:15
Speaker 6: to oneness with the brom Such an one growing one

Speaker 6: how high and wonderful and knowing straightway enters into me,

Speaker 6: And whatsoever deeds he doeth fixed in me as in

Speaker 6: his refuge, he hath won forever and forever by My
• 2:36:54
Speaker 6: grace the eternal rest. So when thou, in thy thoughts

Speaker 6: do all thou dost for me, renounce for me, sacrifice

Speaker 6: heart and mind, and will to me, live in the
• 2:37:09
Speaker 6: faith of me, In faith of me, all dangers thou
• 2:37:13
Speaker 6: shalt vanquish by my grace. But trusting to thyself and
• 2:37:19
Speaker 6: heeding not, thou canst but perish. If this day thou

Speaker 6: sayest relying on thyself. I will not fight vain will
