Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:13How would you feel if a 50 year old man called and said he was
- 0:16your 6 year old nephew? Well, I'm going to watch Your
- 0:20least Favorite Scary Movie, The podcast where we talk about the
- 0:22good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd, and all of our favorite.
- 0:25And least favorite scary movies because we believe every horror
- 0:28movie rightfully has his fan base.
- 0:29Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:31My name is Jesse and get ready to grow the fuck up, guys,
- 0:36because we're going to the beach.
- 0:37That makes you old. Yeah, we go to the beach.
- 0:40Let's go to the beach. The only downside is it makes
- 0:43you old. I already feel really old.
- 0:47I I'm a mess without going to bed at 9:00 last night, Yeah.
- 0:52We did the nightmare or thought. Yeah, I stayed up until after
- 0:55three and my whole body feels weird and hurts so.
- 0:58Yep, we're not cut off for that shit anymore.
- 1:01Nope, I clearly can't do it. OK, So old covering this because
- 1:07Trap is only available for video on demand and we're not going to
- 1:10pay almost as much as we would pay for physical media when
- 1:12we're planning to buy it on physical media when it's
- 1:14available. So that'll be a later episode.
- 1:17Jesse wanted to talk about that movie so badly, she just decided
- 1:22to talk about any M Night Shyamalan movie.
- 1:24That's really what happened here.
- 1:26To happen. But I knew I wanted to talk
- 1:27about OLD too. And since trap hasn't been
- 1:30available yet, we're doing OLD. That's what's happening.
- 1:33That's where that's where we're at.
- 1:34I kick this all off whenever I take knock at the cabin.
- 1:37Yeah, this is really your fault. I open Pandora's box right
- 1:40there. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:42So here we are. But please first tell us what
- 1:46our poll results are, because I don't have any announcements.
- 1:49We just have that. That's true, yeah.
- 1:51So our poll was for The Descent, which we discussed last week,
- 1:57and we had a little argument on that episode between the two of
- 2:01us about whether or not it's a single location horror movie.
- 2:06So I'm just going to go ahead and go with the rude Instagram
- 2:11one, which is 100% yes, that it is single location.
- 2:15It was a little bit more divisive over on Twitter though.
- 2:19So the results over there, 56% yes, 44% no.
- 2:25Especially shout out to Lord Zombie who said no matter what
- 2:28the poll says, I'm right. I disagree, she's been wrong
- 2:32many times. Many.
- 2:34In fact, in the Descent you were.
- 2:36Wrong. It was many, yeah.
- 2:38Yeah, it's true. Many look OK.
- 2:40I guess it's a single location horror movie.
- 2:42I would have never thought so, but whatever.
- 2:44I can't argue with the people. Everybody outnumbered me.
- 2:46Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 2:48I'm not mad about it, no. So now are we about to talk
- 2:51about another single location horror movie?
- 2:54Yeah, no, this one I'm not going to fight you on.
- 2:56Yeah, well, this is. They're very much what?
- 2:58Is the difference between this and the descent?
- 3:01Because it was a confined space, they were like, you can't leave
- 3:06the beach, you'll get a headache.
- 3:09They couldn't leave The Cave. They could though.
- 3:13They just couldn't make their They got lost.
- 3:16It's not that they were trapped in there.
- 3:18I. Mean they were.
- 3:21No, I just, I feel it so deeply within me that that is not a
- 3:29single location movie. And we got to stop it right
- 3:32there because we we got to talk about old.
- 3:35We do. We have to talk about old before
- 3:37we're old. Yeah, go into it, Jesse.
- 3:39What's the background on this shit?
- 3:41So Old was released July 20/13/2021.
- 3:44We watched it on Peacock as of the last day of August, so who
- 3:48the fuck knows if this will still it'll be true when this
- 3:51episode comes out. It's available to stream on
- 3:54Peacock, Fubo TV, Hulu Premium, Sling TV Premium, and YouTube TV
- 3:57Premium, or you can rent it from Prime, Google Play, or Fandango
- 4:01at home. Formerly Voodoo written by M
- 4:05Night Shyamalan Adapt as adapted for the screenplay, but it's
- 4:09based off of a graphic novel called Sandcastle written by
- 4:12Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederick Peters.
- 4:15Interesting. Yeah.
- 4:16Does this do not do original shit anymore?
- 4:18Was trap original? I feel like that had to be
- 4:21original. I don't know, I don't know.
- 4:22I keep getting surprised. Everything this is twist, like,
- 4:26I didn't even think of it, man. Yeah.
- 4:29Like everything he's been doing lately is like an adaptation on
- 4:31something. Yeah, so I guess whenever we own
- 4:34and cover trap, we'll find out if it's original or an
- 4:38adaptation. Yeah, I guess so, yeah.
- 4:41Directed by M Night Shyamalan, music by Trevor Goreckis and
- 4:44special effects makeup by Stevie FX.
- 4:47Stevie, Stevie. Starring Aaron Garcia Bernal is
- 4:56Guy, Vicki Creeps is Priscus, Rufus Sewell is Charles, Abby
- 5:01Lee is Crystal Nikki and Nuka Bird as Patricia, Ken Lung as
- 5:05Jaron. Nolan River is Trent, age 6,
- 5:08Lucas Vestina Rodriguez is Trent, age 11, Alex Wolfe is
- 5:12Trent, age 15, and Eamon Elliott is Trent age adult.
- 5:16Alexis Swinton is Maddox, age 11, Thomas and Mackenzie is
- 5:19Maddox, age 16, and M Beth Davits asthmatics age adults.
- 5:24Did they not give them like an American age?
- 5:27I know that they're in their 50s.
- 5:30Well, at least trenches, yeah. She could be in her 60s.
- 5:33Yeah, there were plenty of other actors I really wanted to be
- 5:37able to give credit for such as Kara and mid size sedan.
- 5:40But I'm I'm outer space on my my worksheet.
- 5:43So that's where we're at with it.
- 5:45Yeah, that's that's that's a fucking I I forgot about that.
- 5:49I. Started writing it down and I
- 5:51was like, all right, I'm going to get everybody that's on the
- 5:53beach because it's a small group.
- 5:54And then I was like, fuck. That's funny.
- 5:59Okay, now it's time for our favorite game.
- 6:01Budget or budget? Shaman, so budget.
- 6:09Decidedly so. Yeah. 18,000,000.
- 6:13Wow. Okay, good for you.
- 6:14Yeah, I'll name. I've heard that he straight up
- 6:19funds his shit himself pretty much for the most part now.
- 6:22He did pay for the cast and crews stay at the resort that
- 6:26they were filming at for 10 weeks.
- 6:28That that's it. I don't know about the rest, but
- 6:31I know that he paid for that. That's 10 weeks at a resort.
- 6:34That's impressive. This is just something that I
- 6:36read recently when people were discussing trap.
- 6:39And I like like people are like, how does he keep making movies?
- 6:42And sometimes, I mean, he's funding them all himself.
- 6:45Like he can do it and they make money.
- 6:47So I'm curious to see what it made here.
- 6:50Well, the opening box office in the US and Canada was 16.8
- 6:53million and a worldwide gross of 90 million.
- 6:56Damn it, didn't see he fucking brings in he does he?
- 6:59Does this has an IMDb score 5.8 out of 10?
- 7:03OK, not too bad. We'll talk about our feelings on
- 7:06the baby here in a bit. I have a theme for other 2021
- 7:12movies. I'm curious, you hyped it up a
- 7:16tad. You are.
- 7:17Excited The theme is I hate the sand.
- 7:21I hate the sand. Fantastic.
- 7:24That's good. OK, what?
- 7:26What sand horror do we have in 2021?
- 7:29Mad God. Mad what sand is in that he.
- 7:33Drops into a desert at one point.
- 7:35Listen, I had to stretch this some.
- 7:36There wasn't a good overarching. Payment.
- 7:38I don't know if he's wasteland, it's Wasteland.
- 7:41There's like some ports that are sands.
- 7:43It's rubble and sandy. Sure, OK, sure.
- 7:46Yeah, so that premiered on August 5th, 2021 at the LA Carno
- 7:51Film Festival. I don't have a budget for it,
- 7:53but it has a worldwide gross of 325,000 and an IMDb score of 6.8
- 7:58out of 10. Wow, that's all I can say.
- 8:03I I respect the movie. I think Phil Tippett is one hell
- 8:09of a guy. I never want to watch it again.
- 8:11Yeah, we've watched it two times.
- 8:13So yeah, one time for me. And then because we were, that
- 8:17was my pick in October. Endless night.
- 8:19Yeah. And then endless another one for
- 8:21the last drive in. Yeah.
- 8:22And we've given. Yeah, then we too the.
- 8:24Last drive in made it a little bit better because it was like
- 8:26splitting it up into little segments.
- 8:28I suppose, but still like it. It's a delight to watch.
- 8:32It's awesome. I love animation.
- 8:34I love stop animation and that. I just broke my brain there for
- 8:40a second. It has a story.
- 8:42It's just like it's too long, long for it to be so pointless.
- 8:46Yeah, yeah, OK, Second movie 1 we've covered on the show.
- 8:50OK. The resort.
- 8:54That was a Toby. It was yeah.
- 8:56So that released July 12th, 2021.
- 8:59Again, no budget, but a worldwide gross of 208,000 and
- 9:03an IMGB score of 3.1 out of 10. Yeah, I remember it not being
- 9:07that great. Yeah, it was one of those, like
- 9:09the concept was fun. There's some really good scenes.
- 9:12Dave Sheridan was interesting, like he was there.
- 9:17It had a good elements. I just felt like it didn't all
- 9:20come together the way it needed to.
- 9:21Yeah, I. Would love to see another crack
- 9:24at it. Our fine version, Yeah, yeah.
- 9:28OK. And then finally, this is
- 9:30another one. It's kind of a stretch.
- 9:33Work with me Escape room Tournament of Champions because
- 9:37they have that one. Room.
- 9:38Yeah. On the beach, yeah.
- 9:40OK. Is that the same 1?
- 9:41Yes. OK.
- 9:42Yeah, yeah. Yeah, which we need to cover
- 9:45those movies at some point too. Yeah, for sure.
- 9:48Are you sure that's not the first one?
- 9:51No, it's Tournament of Champions cuz remember we have like the
- 9:54surprise return of the one person and yeah.
- 9:58Yeah, OK. I remember this very you're
- 10:01thinking of the one in the first one where they're in the snow by
- 10:06the water. The ice, Yeah.
- 10:07Yeah, that's right. OK.
- 10:09All right, so Escape Room Tournament Champions released
- 10:12July 16th, 2021, a budget of 15,000,000 and a worldwide gross
- 10:16of 65.7 million and an IMDb score of 5.7 out of 10.
- 10:21Those movies are fun. They are fun.
- 10:23I will take whatever ridiculous premise they come at us with to
- 10:28keep it going because they want to keep it going.
- 10:30I enjoy them OK. Weirdly enough, single location,
- 10:37they're stuck in a building. But that one is one that I feel
- 10:42like we could debate more about. Yeah, I know.
- 10:46That's why I think it's so funny that that's where I'm like, no,
- 10:48that one. Yeah, I'm like, well, no, this
- 10:51is one that I feel like has more nuance to it.
- 10:54OK, I have some tag lines. OK.
- 10:58The one on the poster. It's only a matter of time.
- 11:05That should have been a tagline. It should have.
- 11:07That's our tagline. I mean, I will let Aaron Pierre
- 11:11be on our poster, our artwork. Our artwork, it doesn't have to
- 11:16be. It could be, I don't know.
- 11:20And then I have one of those that I hate the a new trip from
- 11:23M Night Shyamalan or a new trip from writer director M Night
- 11:26Shyamalan. A new trip?
- 11:28Is that how they call it? No, man, he's a trip.
- 11:33He's at it again. Yeah, OK.
- 11:37Is. That one more OK, they grow up
- 11:40so fast. Ah, unless they don't.
- 11:43That's pretty good that oh, oh, I don't say don't.
- 11:49I added that. Yeah.
- 11:50Are you talking about the baby? Yeah, Yeah.
- 11:52That's start Daddy. Poof.
- 11:53Yeah, yeah. It is.
- 11:55That's a good tagline though. I like that they grow.
- 11:57Up so fast. Yeah.
- 11:57I think. I think that was a good one.
- 11:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:59OK. I have some fun packs.
- 12:01OK, So MI Shyamalan has $3 and they gave him a collective
- 12:06Father's Day gift in 2017. I misheard those.
- 12:10MI Shyamalan has $3. Yes, because he keeps making
- 12:13expensive movies. Sorry, start over.
- 12:16He. Has three daughters, and they
- 12:18gave him a collective gift on Father's Day in 2017 that
- 12:21included Sandcastle, the graphic novel.
- 12:24And he enjoyed it so much, and he decided that he was going to
- 12:27adopt it for film. Wow.
- 12:28Yeah. So I think that's kind of cool.
- 12:32They started principal photography in the Dominican
- 12:34Republic on September 26th, 2020 and it went through November
- 12:3715th, 2020. This is the like one of the
- 12:41first films done in the Dominican Republic since
- 12:44COVID-19 and they every single crew and cast member tested
- 12:48negative throughout the whole 2010 weeks.
- 12:51So. So they're still doing that, I
- 12:52guess they. Yeah.
- 12:54OK, that makes sense. Yeah.
- 12:56This was actually shot on 35mm. No, I noticed.
- 13:00Yeah, which I thought you would appreciate.
- 13:02Yeah. Oh.
- 13:03My God I love that shit. And this is the first M Night
- 13:06Shyamalan movie not to have any shooting around his hometown of
- 13:09Philadelphia. He does mention it though.
- 13:12This guy cannot he? Can't not.
- 13:13He was like, OK, well, we're not in Philadelphia, but we're gonna
- 13:17make sure that they're from Philadelphia.
- 13:18Yeah, exactly. Yeah, Yeah, he loves to do that.
- 13:23Alex Wolf and Mackenzie Thomas and Mackenzie, I don't know why
- 13:26I always want to make her name up.
- 13:29They were two of the first ones cast, and Alex Wolf actually
- 13:32talked about remembering that he passed out on set during the
- 13:36pregnancy scene because it was so hot.
- 13:38Oh God, yeah. Damn, yeah.
- 13:42That doesn't sound good. It doesn't sound good.
- 13:47OK, so I am going to hopefully remember to link this.
- 13:51This was a little article in Slate about the differences
- 13:54between the the movie and the graphic novel.
- 13:56Some of them it's just like differences between characters,
- 13:58like their names and stuff. And I'm not going to go into all
- 14:01of that, but I did want to bring up a couple of the more
- 14:05important points in terms of like how this is adapted to a
- 14:08film. And in the graphic novel, the
- 14:11characters all eventually like resign themselves to their fate
- 14:14or they choose to kill themselves rather live in like
- 14:17die of old age on the beach. Really, nobody dies of like
- 14:21natural causes in the graphic novel.
- 14:24That would be them dying of natural causes.
- 14:26Killing themselves. Well, I mean, they're growing
- 14:29old. Sorry, I misunderstood, okay.
- 14:35Yeah. Whereas in the movie, obviously
- 14:39we've got the tensions rising and people getting accusing of
- 14:42each other, of them, of things and.
- 14:45Flashing and stabbing. And yeah.
- 14:48Mostly just one guy, but yeah. Yeah.
- 14:51And then in the graphic novel, so the possibility of this being
- 14:55like an experiment was kind of floated, but never like outright
- 14:59confirmed in the graphic novel. And obviously Shyamalan decided
- 15:03that he's going to end, like, end the movie with a very
- 15:05definitive. Yeah, that's that's what he
- 15:07does. He can't handle ambiguous
- 15:10endings. He's got to make a definitive.
- 15:12He's like, except for knock at the cabin, which we argued
- 15:14about. He didn't make no, he whoa, he,
- 15:17he, he specifically said in that one that he made, he put more
- 15:22there at the end than what was given in the book.
- 15:25He thought that he was making it very clear.
- 15:27But everybody's like, I don't know.
- 15:29I'm not. I don't know.
- 15:32Also what happens in the graphic novel is there is a baby born
- 15:37and it does survive and so it just kind of ends on the baby
- 15:42grown up by itself on the beach building a sandcastle which is
- 15:45fucking dark. What the fuck?
- 15:47Yeah, damn. Yeah.
- 15:50So I'll try to remember to put that link because I tried to
- 15:53like pull up the Wikipedia page or something to get like a, you
- 15:56know, the plot synopsis that it, it really didn't say much.
- 16:00It was like people are on beach and it makes them old.
- 16:03Yeah, OK. That's the movie.
- 16:05Thanks, Wikipedia. Yeah.
- 16:08So that's those are my fun facts.
- 16:09Wow, I think are actually pretty interesting.
- 16:11Yeah, I think so too. I had no idea.
- 16:13I, you know, I always like it when like stuff like that gets
- 16:16adapted. And yeah.
- 16:18It's always interesting knowing what is not exactly carried over
- 16:22from that. I would like to know his
- 16:25rationale for some of that stuff.
- 16:27Well, and I also think that it's cool cuz the sale of the graphic
- 16:30novel actually did go up after the movie it came out.
- 16:33They usually do, yeah. So yeah.
- 16:36OK, so now it's time for us to talk about our thoughts,
- 16:40specifically on the good, bad, ugly and absurd.
- 16:42OK, kick us off, Travis. All right, so the good things
- 16:46about this movie, they, I mean, it's a good thing that they're
- 16:50good at aging the people off. Considering the premise of the
- 16:54movie, they do a good job with the aging effects.
- 16:57I like that they have a slow build to it.
- 17:01So some, like some actors, you can start to notice wrinkles
- 17:05before anybody acknowledges it. Yeah.
- 17:07And you're. They're minor, Yeah.
- 17:09You're kind of like, did we miss that?
- 17:10I mean, obviously we know it because we're going into.
- 17:13It looking. For it.
- 17:14But it's it's very subtly done and I think that's really nice.
- 17:17Yeah, I think the first time I noticed it is like soon after
- 17:20they start to freak out. And I think Priska, I see like a
- 17:23little bit of like wrinkle on her forehead there.
- 17:27And I feel like they did a pretty good job casting the kids
- 17:31as they progressively got older. One of the things though, oh,
- 17:37no, I'll save that for an absurd.
- 17:39OK, OK, it's a it's a you. You took a drink and you
- 17:45completely disrupted my thought, my train of thought here.
- 17:49OK, generally it's it's a fun movie to watch unfold.
- 17:54OK, it's a it's a stupid, silly premise.
- 17:57And I like, you know, like they're telling me, OK, these
- 18:00people are going to age up. All right, cool.
- 18:01Like it's kind of fun to see exactly how that's going to play
- 18:04out over a certain amount of time.
- 18:05It's like within a day you age 50 years, which is fucking
- 18:09crazy. Yes.
- 18:11And it's really hard emotional points in this movie, which I
- 18:17think it's nice to have some drama in there, but it makes it
- 18:21a little bit tough to watch at times, but in a good way, you
- 18:24know what I mean? Like, it hits like the
- 18:26milestones of life. I think it touches just about
- 18:29every single one of them. And there's probably something
- 18:31there that everybody can relate to and, you know, not exactly
- 18:36feel good about it. It's not a feel good movie at
- 18:39all. It's something.
- 18:40Yeah. But I don't know.
- 18:42I, I still think it's a pretty fun little movie to watch.
- 18:46So yeah, those are my good things.
- 18:48OK, I have kind of similar good things, but I'm going to expand
- 18:52upon them a little bit. I think that this movie,
- 18:55honestly, it's I have a ton of notes on it, which I wasn't
- 18:58expecting to because I was like, oh, they just go to the beach
- 19:00and they get old. But I was like making notes
- 19:03throughout it, and it really made me appreciate that they
- 19:05just kind of keep stuff coming at you, but not in a way that
- 19:08you necessarily feel overwhelmed unless you're doing a podcast
- 19:12where you recap the movie and you feel the need to take a lot
- 19:15of notes. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:17And I, I think that, but that's really nice.
- 19:19Like we don't waste a ton of time and we, I like movies
- 19:23occasionally where you have to like pick up the story as you go
- 19:25along. And I think that's, that's nice
- 19:27that we get that with this. What you were saying about the,
- 19:31the, the milestones of life and everything.
- 19:34I think that's really where the heart of this movie is at.
- 19:37Because the horror here is that we all fear in some way, shape
- 19:43or form, time, not necessarily aging, although some people do
- 19:49fear aging, but more just like the fact that time, it's, it's
- 19:54the only unstoppable force on this planet, right?
- 19:58So there's always things that just fly by so much quicker than
- 20:01we can really. Like appreciate, you know, we,
- 20:05we don't necessarily think about it until its passion.
- 20:08You're like, Oh my God, I can't believe that that was that
- 20:11quick. And it happened so long ago.
- 20:13And I think we all have moments in our life that we just think
- 20:16back And for like we, if I could do that again, or if I could
- 20:19just have, you know, one more day with this person I care
- 20:22about or like, there's just there's, it touches on so many
- 20:26human things. Got yeah it.
- 20:30And it's so unsettling knowing it's an accelerated version of
- 20:35that. So you have even less time and
- 20:37it makes you sympathize and like have some empathy for everything
- 20:40going on here. It's just and.
- 20:43I think it's kind of interesting too, with Kara's character, how
- 20:46she talks about they're never going to have a prom or a
- 20:48graduation or anything. It's interesting that this was
- 20:50filmed during COVID and there's a lot of like Gen.
- 20:53Z that get shit for being kind of bitter at the world.
- 20:56But they experienced that, you know, they had this this
- 21:00pandemic that kind of ruined those traditional markers of
- 21:05childhood. I mean, you know, I, there are
- 21:08times that I'm a little bit bitter and grumpy that I didn't
- 21:11get to do like a real celebration for getting my
- 21:13master's, you know, like we celebrate it in our own way, but
- 21:16we couldn't do much because it was in the height of lockdowns.
- 21:19It was right in the middle of it, yeah.
- 21:21So I like I think that that's really interesting as well.
- 21:26I also like look, I get it. Some people want to say that
- 21:29like it. The logic doesn't hold up
- 21:31internally. I like that it does the schlocky
- 21:34sci-fi. We're going to hand wave away
- 21:36some of this with some bullshit lingo like, oh, it's just
- 21:39attacking live cells. That's why our hair and nails
- 21:41aren't changing. Boom.
- 21:42That's enough for me. I don't care.
- 21:44I'm OK with this. M Night Shyamalan is a silly
- 21:48man. He's got a good sense of humor
- 21:51and I could totally see him wanting to have those silly
- 21:54sci-fi elements in it, you know? I mean, God, he's got, you know,
- 21:59Mr. Glass and the whole Unbreakable trilogy and
- 22:02everything like that. Has to lay sci-fi elements to it
- 22:05too, so. Yeah, I've only seen split from
- 22:09the whole thing, but yeah, I agree, those are explanations
- 22:12like that were good enough for me.
- 22:15I didn't need anything. It's like it's a supernatural
- 22:19horror thriller. I don't need the, I don't need
- 22:22the explanations to be rooted in our real world physics because I
- 22:26mean, like it's fun to have horror movies where you're like,
- 22:29man, this could happen in real life.
- 22:30But let's be honest, a lot of times it's more fun where we
- 22:34don't have to be stuck in real world rules.
- 22:36I think I could be wrong because I don't really know the
- 22:40discussion relating to this movie, but some people might be
- 22:43a little bit put off that they're trying to give it like a
- 22:48scientific explanation, and they're not even really doing
- 22:51that. They're just kind of doing that.
- 22:52Yeah, aside from it being a supernatural force.
- 22:56Yeah. Like supernatural, isn't this
- 22:58the most, it's the easiest way to handle wave something and
- 23:01then nobody questioned it because oh, supernatural it's
- 23:05fine. Like it makes sense.
- 23:07But it's also on the basis of the people on this island trying
- 23:10to make sense for it for themselves.
- 23:12You know what I mean? That's not necessarily the hard
- 23:15and fast truth of why the beach works this way.
- 23:17It's just our inclination as human beings to find an
- 23:21explanation for something. Yeah, I get it.
- 23:24I but yeah, I agree with you. Like all I need to know is beach
- 23:27old, beach make old, beach make old.
- 23:29Yeah, beach make old. Beach make old.
- 23:31That just sounds like a made-up word.
- 23:33Beach make old. That sounds like I'm speaking
- 23:36like a foreign language. Bitch make old.
- 23:38No, the next short story I write, I'm just going to have a
- 23:40character whose surname is Bitch Make Old.
- 23:43Bitch make bitch make old. Oh my God.
- 23:49You know what? Yeah.
- 23:50If you bitch too much, it does make you older.
- 23:52Yeah. Bitch make old.
- 23:53Bitch make old. Yeah.
- 23:55Beach make old. Bitch make old.
- 23:56Damn. OK.
- 24:01It's your bad. All right, so I think, yeah, the
- 24:07movie gets going fast, which I love that.
- 24:09I love when movies do that. But holy shit, they insert all
- 24:12of the clunky exposition dialogue in the beginning of
- 24:15this movie to give you all of the setup that you need to know
- 24:19for this family and all of the other families on the right over
- 24:23there. It's like, oh, you can't do that
- 24:24till you get older, Trent, You know what I mean?
- 24:27Like they're they're really hamming it up.
- 24:29And then when they get back to the hotel rooms, like, you know,
- 24:32that we had to do this because I have the tumor, you know, this,
- 24:34we talked about this because of this right here.
- 24:36We were going to do this because we don't want the kids to have a
- 24:38bad vacation before we split up. You knew this we talked about.
- 24:41Oh no, that's absolutely realistic.
- 24:43Them fighting that loudly where the kids can hear even though
- 24:45they given some something else can't hear.
- 24:47I know I'm not. I'm not arguing the fact that
- 24:50they're fighting loudly or that they're saying shit.
- 24:52I'm arguing that like we need to argue in a manner where I'm
- 24:56providing this blatant exposition, you know, like it's
- 25:01just like, it just felt so ham fist.
- 25:03It's inserted and they're just like bam right there.
- 25:05You guys know exactly what this family's going through.
- 25:07I'm less bothered by that than by Guy spouting off all of these
- 25:11statistics. So that way we have to know he's
- 25:13an actuarial scientist, which I do appreciate that they
- 25:16introduced the world. The term actuarial, I can't say
- 25:22it, but one of my best friends in college, she like minored in
- 25:26actuarial sciences. So I knew that from her, but
- 25:30it's kind of interesting to see it in a movie.
- 25:33Yeah, I mean, I get it, but I feel like some of this stuff
- 25:35could have been provided or come up a little bit more naturally
- 25:41when they make it to the beach. Yeah.
- 25:44It could have been like a reveal.
- 25:45Like, oh shit, she's got a tumor.
- 25:48Like, we know there. We find out they're like, oh,
- 25:50like she's like, Oh my God, my stomach's hurting and they're
- 25:52like, what's wrong? And then like, guys, like, I'm
- 25:55sorry, kids, we didn't want to tell you this.
- 25:56We wanted you guys to have a nice one before we split up.
- 25:59And we're like trauma dumping on the kids.
- 26:01Yeah, we're gonna get divorced. And now your mom has this big
- 26:04tumor. It's like also.
- 26:06She cheated on me. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:08She doesn't know that I know you.
- 26:10Yeah. And there's just clunky dialogue
- 26:16in general. And then I also, I didn't think,
- 26:19I thought some of the acting was not that great, most notably
- 26:23Priscus actor. I didn't think that she was
- 26:25super good at that. I didn't really care for her
- 26:27performance. But that's all that I have to
- 26:30say about this. OK, I know we talked about this
- 26:36the first time we watched this, but I was really thinking that
- 26:38we were going to be getting a storyline with Charles where it
- 26:41was more of like a dementia centered of treatment, which
- 26:47would make sense if we're doing pharmaceutical studies.
- 26:49And also like it's not at all uncommon to have psychosis
- 26:55secondary to dementia. So like some of his outbursts
- 26:59made sense and I was like, Oh well this all perfectly makes
- 27:01sense to him. In my head is where?
- 27:03I was going, that's where my mind went the entire time.
- 27:06Even this time, on rewatch, I was like, oh, that's happening.
- 27:09And then I forgot. Oh yeah, they make him
- 27:11schizophrenic. Yeah.
- 27:12I feel like that was the true twist to this.
- 27:14Movie, yeah, and that one's a little bit weird too, because
- 27:17typically schizophrenia is like onset in, like, your 20s for
- 27:22most adults. And not that it can't happen
- 27:24outside of that time frame, but that's where it's most typical
- 27:26to see that. But the fact that he made it to
- 27:28chief medical officer for a hospital and only recently
- 27:32started having like symptoms where he had to go like seek out
- 27:36treatment, that's, I mean, just not.
- 27:41Totally. Believable.
- 27:42Yeah, it's not impossible, but but then again, I think some of
- 27:46the things with them all here is they're all rare or extreme
- 27:51cases of situations. Well, and like also Patricia, I
- 27:54mean, she had a grand Mal seizure and just a couple hours
- 27:57later came out to the beach. And I know they tried to say
- 28:00like, oh, she had to go rest in the hotel room for a couple
- 28:02hours first. But yeah, those for my
- 28:05understanding, those really take it out of you.
- 28:07She got right up like a champ. She's like, ha, sorry to
- 28:10intervene everybody, sorry to interrupt.
- 28:12I kind of like her sense of humor with it, yeah.
- 28:16Jaron's just like just. No, and Jaron is Jaron is one of
- 28:22my other bads because at first he's like, OK, we can all agree
- 28:26that none of us can swim this fucking beach, right?
- 28:28Like none of us. OK, cool.
- 28:29And then two hours later, which by this point he's four years
- 28:32older. Shouldn't be 40 years once?
- 28:35He's like, I was on the swim team, babe, I got this.
- 28:38Like, yeah, you're right. You're the one that told
- 28:40everybody we can't swim this jaron.
- 28:43Sharon. Jaron.
- 28:45Come on man. Yeah.
- 28:47So that's that's my bad. OK, so ugly.
- 28:52Well, First off, I think it's really ugly to take people and
- 28:58do extreme experimentations like this on them without consenting.
- 29:02It's called informed consent, motherfuckers.
- 29:05It's very fucked up, the whole idea that you're just going to
- 29:08take these people, children included, yeah, and just age
- 29:12them up and basically in their lives in a day.
- 29:15And especially because some of these are like bystanders.
- 29:18Yeah, like they don't have conditions, but I thought about
- 29:23that and are. They the controls and the.
- 29:26No. I thought that maybe they were
- 29:30included in to like to test any biological, like if it carries
- 29:36over to the next generation, if like if those complications from
- 29:42the parents have an impact or an effect on the children as they
- 29:45grow older, if they experience the same things or if it's, you
- 29:49know, they had like no issues whatsoever, nothing related to
- 29:53it, I suppose. So that's my thought for that.
- 29:56And, you know, I just, I don't think that we needed to have a
- 30:00dog present. Yeah, that was rude.
- 30:02That was real fucking. That was just really rude.
- 30:04And I don't understand, like maybe if you're trying to test
- 30:07like, you know, the dog conditions, but like, they
- 30:14didn't even mention the dog. Yeah, you know, like.
- 30:17They're just like, by the way. Yep.
- 30:18There's dog there. Yep.
- 30:20It's just like it's fucked up. Yeah, so I agree with all of
- 30:24that. But also I don't know, maybe
- 30:27this is getting more into absurd, but but you can't even
- 30:31use this data. None of it can be peer reviewed.
- 30:34It's like in Midsummer. Like what is the point of using
- 30:37aliases? You'll never get it peer
- 30:39reviewed. Yeah, that's what I was
- 30:41wondering at the end of the movie.
- 30:42And we're gonna fast track the production for it to be tested.
- 30:45Like, well, how are you gonna, Yeah, how are you going to do
- 30:48that, man? Like that?
- 30:50Who's going to, are you just going to go like, trust me, bro.
- 30:53Like, is that it? Like I tested it on somebody
- 30:55that aged in like a whole day. Also, there's this one person
- 30:59like you have to test like you. Oh my God.
- 31:02It just, yeah. There's just so much that's
- 31:04wrong with it, like ethically, but also like on the basis of
- 31:07how scientific experiments are done.
- 31:09Yeah, it's poorly planned out. Yeah.
- 31:12And they didn't do any, that's to speak nothing of like any
- 31:15drinks that they have with them because it's implied that like
- 31:20Crystal snuck in the alcohol cuz she said it was mini bottles
- 31:23from the is the bottles of alcohol from the mini fridge.
- 31:26Yeah. So what if the alcohol is
- 31:28messing with this medication that these people don't know
- 31:30that they have? And isn't it weird that the
- 31:32medicine would not like you wouldn't have to take repeated
- 31:37doses of it, like 1 dose and like you're cured for a life?
- 31:40Is that what you're trying to imply here?
- 31:43Yeah, especially because like right now, I know for
- 31:46schizophrenia treatment, there are shots that are like long
- 31:50lasting, but those are typically like three or six months.
- 31:53Yeah, you would need to like keep reapplying these people
- 31:55with the medication throughout. So if you really wanted to like
- 31:58they just, they just these guys are irresponsible.
- 32:01Yeah, they're just, they're bad. They're.
- 32:03Bad. Yeah, they're bad at their jobs.
- 32:06I'm also going to go with the ugliest with Charles because as
- 32:09he's having these psychotic moments, it's very unpleasant
- 32:17because like he's got this fixation on the movies, which
- 32:20that's fine and expected, but then he also gets real racist.
- 32:26Yeah, I was going to say like, it's not like outright like or
- 32:30stated, but it felt very racially motivated.
- 32:33Yeah, like the fact that it's just.
- 32:36Yeah, there's. He did it against the black man
- 32:38and the Asian man, you know what I mean?
- 32:39And then when he goes over to guy, he's not like, oh, you're
- 32:44going to fuck me up. He's like, no, you're going to
- 32:46tell on me for killing them. Yeah.
- 32:48It's just, yeah, come on, man. It's very fucked up.
- 32:52Yeah, OK. Also Crystal running away from
- 32:56Kara while she's having the baby and literally crying out to her
- 33:00mom and holding her hand out. Yeah, she.
- 33:02Sucks. Yeah Crystal sucks.
- 33:04Abby Lee is beautiful, but she always plays such mean
- 33:07characters. Crystal like the champagne.
- 33:11Spelled differently. Yeah, that's just the boondocks
- 33:14reference. OK, yeah, OK, so I'm absurd.
- 33:18All right, so got a couple. So first of all, I thought it
- 33:26was really weird. The trend is just like going
- 33:28around asking everybody a name and occupation.
- 33:30Man, what an annoying little six year.
- 33:32Old. I would hate that he's going to
- 33:33him in little Idlib. Idlib.
- 33:37Idlib. Yeah, they're just running
- 33:38around every single person, like hi, what's your name?
- 33:40What's your occupation? Hi, what's your name?
- 33:42What's your occupation? Like it's just so fucking weird.
- 33:45And here's The thing is that like, we've got nieces and
- 33:48nephews and I love indulging them, but I'm also kind of a
- 33:50smart ass with them at times too.
- 33:52And I would have been like, what's your name in your
- 33:53occupation? Exactly, Yeah.
- 33:55And I probably wouldn't be able to stop myself from doing that
- 33:58to an adorable little boy on the beach.
- 34:01Next up we see that mid size almost called him M night sedan.
- 34:10Mid size sedan was on the beach a very like an extended period
- 34:16of time before the family is introduced.
- 34:19Yet the man doesn't age a single day in this movie, and he's
- 34:22there for a while. I'm going to assume he's there
- 34:26for because you brought up the point that it could be early
- 34:29morning for them. Yeah, it's definitely early
- 34:31morning, but that was hours before they arrived.
- 34:35Let's give it the benefit of the doubt.
- 34:36Say it's 12 hours. It's 24 years for him.
- 34:40Let's assume maybe he got famous super young so maybe he's in
- 34:45like his mid 40s or 50s and they even make a joke at one point
- 34:50about how black folks don't age as noticeably.
- 34:56Yeah, they do, but I'm just like, and I guess like she
- 35:00doesn't really, but none of the adults really do, other than Guy
- 35:03and Christa and Charles and. Crystal, Crystal.
- 35:09Crystal goes a whole other route with hers.
- 35:11Hers is frightening. I just thought it was weird that
- 35:14we we just don't see him age any considering he was there for a
- 35:17much longer. Period.
- 35:18Yeah, no, I absolutely. And and and this is me like
- 35:23stretching, stretching it to make it make sense.
- 35:25Yeah. And that and that literally
- 35:27would be a bigger complaint for me because I thought that they
- 35:30were there the night before and you're like, well, it could have
- 35:31been early morning. So let's make those allowances.
- 35:35Yeah, it looked to me like it was sunrise and OK, my final
- 35:38one. So you were talking before about
- 35:40how, you know the hair and everything doesn't change
- 35:43because they were dead cells? Yeah, it's so funny to me,
- 35:47though. You take the children and when
- 35:50they get older, their heads get bigger, but their hair stays
- 35:54proportionate to their heads. Like Cara should have tiny hair.
- 36:01It should just like be like a little tiny things, just like
- 36:04barely coming out of her head compared because she was the
- 36:07only like, I'm going to say 4. Or something.
- 36:10No, she was six also. She was also six.
- 36:12Yeah, she was like a much younger 6 than.
- 36:15Trent Yeah, Charles said it at one point, he said.
- 36:17She just turned 6 two weeks ago. OK, well a six year old has a
- 36:20tiny head. Yeah, compared to an adult.
- 36:23And yeah, their hair just. And especially Trent's.
- 36:26Trent's hair just like, stays big the entire time.
- 36:29And isn't that and another point too, that at least some of them
- 36:32should have started going bald because the baldness doesn't
- 36:35come from like the hair quit. It comes from like the live skin
- 36:39on your scalp is like, we're done.
- 36:42I don't know that would be interesting to explore.
- 36:43Like you're like you're you're, you should be balding, but.
- 36:47Like, Can you imagine there's all these life threatening
- 36:49diseases on the beach, but then there's the one person who's
- 36:52like, very self-conscious about their balding.
- 36:54And it's like a test. For like a rogaine type
- 36:56medicine. Yeah.
- 36:57Oh my God, yeah, I could see that.
- 37:00OK, so these are my upstairs. What are yours?
- 37:04I, I OK, I'm gonna go with the 15 year old Kara and Trent.
- 37:12Them playing house. There's this whole like,
- 37:15weirdness. They try to explain their minds
- 37:17like growing with their bodies, but it seems like their minds
- 37:20are a little bit behind their bodies.
- 37:22Yeah, definitely, yeah. And like they Playhouse but also
- 37:26they are actually having sex but.
- 37:28Were they were they still like kids then I thought.
- 37:31That they were 15 they. Were 15 then I thought that they
- 37:34were like 18. That way it's like not as weird.
- 37:37Like it's kind of weird. Yeah, she's, she's, she's trying
- 37:41out for MTV's 15 and Pregnant. Wow, OK.
- 37:46Yeah, so I. Thought that that was a weird
- 37:48thing. Just like, oh, we're gonna make
- 37:50them have sex. Like what the fuck?
- 37:52Like come? On yeah, I'm like there's a lot
- 37:56there's a lot of feelings that they didn't have time to explore
- 38:00in the right way. But then also like I get the
- 38:03whole thing about them being hungry right.
- 38:05But Cara just notion that pasta salad.
- 38:09Because she's a six year old, yeah.
- 38:12Do you really think Crystal would have ever let her shove
- 38:16food in her mouth that way? No, but I don't know, like they.
- 38:22I would have never done that. They're in.
- 38:24They're even. She's 6, but she's a teen.
- 38:28She's 16. Even if she still had the six
- 38:31year old's mind, that's still not like a thing that you do.
- 38:34No, I'm saying she's like she has an older mind, but like you
- 38:39said, it's like slightly lagging.
- 38:41Like she's able to like have like adult concepts.
- 38:43So I think that maybe she was like, OK, I'm a little bit older
- 38:46now. I'm going to be weird.
- 38:48I don't know, like I'm going to rebel against my mom.
- 38:50Also. You.
- 38:53Yeah, it was very you. Like cuz that's oily and it's
- 38:56got herbs in it so it's got like her hands are gonna be slimy but
- 38:59also. Slightly.
- 39:00Worse pasta salad. Yeah this is this is nasty as
- 39:04fuck to watch her do that. Like pack better food, it's just
- 39:09not like it's just so. Yeah, and I really thought this
- 39:12was going to be more like astronaut food the way it was
- 39:14packaged. The food's got to like but it.
- 39:16Wasn't. Is the food not affected by
- 39:18time? Is that time safe bags that it's
- 39:21sold in or was like does pasta salad get like perfectly
- 39:25preserved? Oh my God, is that why they're
- 39:27in those bags? Are those bags lined with like
- 39:29metal? I don't, yeah, I guess like it's
- 39:33got to be something because the foods, the food would go bad.
- 39:35That would have been a fun like thing to do.
- 39:38Like they take out some food and set it to the side.
- 39:40And just like it. Because that's that's realistic
- 39:42to a six year old, like set the food to the side and run off and
- 39:44then they come back and they're like, my food's piled.
- 39:47In all honesty it should have went bad as she was moving it
- 39:51from the bag to her mouth. Yeah.
- 39:53That's like, that's like one day.
- 39:54Yeah, it's like. Months of time, just like, right
- 39:57there, just like. Like you take one bite, good
- 39:59second bite E coli. Yeah, realistic.
- 40:02Oh man, oh man, yeah, this fucking movie.
- 40:11I love this movie. What are you rating it?
- 40:15It's an entertaining watch. I wouldn't say I love it OK, but
- 40:19it's fun. It's a fun little movie.
- 40:20I'll give it like a six. I'm gonna give it an 8.
- 40:23OK, So we get a starting average of seven.
- 40:25OK, I'm happy with that. All right, OK.
- 40:28All right. OK so we start off with the
- 40:33family and the band. Maddox is being an annoying
- 40:36preteen and singing with her headphones on and the mom
- 40:40instead of being like hey that's really fucking annoying go sing
- 40:43it kid. And Max is like now I don't want
- 40:45to she Jedi mind tricked. Her psychology right there.
- 40:49It's effective, yeah. And then Trent, this little shit
- 40:52goes, you ruined her spontaneity and took the joy out of her
- 40:56passion or some shit. You're 6, shut up.
- 41:01What the fuck do you know kid? This.
- 41:06He's an obnoxious 6 year. Old I would love to see more
- 41:09movies portray like because OK, we've talked about this with
- 41:14child play where Andy was like actually really smart as a
- 41:17child, but he wasn't portrayed the way a lot of movies like to
- 41:20portray a young child genius. Like where they're like, oh,
- 41:23they get a hug like this big vocabulary words.
- 41:28Cuz that's like, I mean, yeah, sometimes that is the case, but
- 41:31there are a lot of types of intelligence.
- 41:33And also it's not necessarily all related, just having a good
- 41:35vocabulary. Yeah.
- 41:37And that's true, Yeah. OK so prisca cuz Trent keeps
- 41:42saying are we there yet? Are we there yet?
- 41:43Are we there yet see normal 6 year old behavior and Prisca's
- 41:47like just enjoy the moment, stop wishing this time away.
- 41:51Yeah, you'll get you'll whatever she's like you something when
- 41:54you all get older kind of old right there, like as a title
- 41:59card. But yeah, whatever.
- 42:01They make it to the resort. This is probably my favorite
- 42:04note that I made is Trenton Max meet kid that apparently loves
- 42:08collecting conch shells. Yeah, like that's like his whole
- 42:12thing. Well, cuz Trent immediately
- 42:14starts off with something. I bet Idlib doesn't even collect
- 42:17conch shells. I think he just had to come up
- 42:18with something in the moment. Cuz Trent's like I can put
- 42:20together 500 piece puzzles and my dad and I put glue over top
- 42:24of them to preserve them. What is your deal?
- 42:26And it looks like shells. Yeah, I have 27.
- 42:31I can only imagine he walks up the little kids and go, hi,
- 42:33what's your name in occupation? What?
- 42:36What do you mean fucking occupation?
- 42:38Concholls. It lives like I work here at the
- 42:40hotel. I'm unpaid child labor but.
- 42:43Trent's like. He's like, I don't, I don't have
- 42:46the resources to talk about this.
- 42:51So in the hotel room, guy is quoting furniture injury
- 42:54statistics that I do kind of believe, like the way the kids
- 42:57are playing around. But I also feel like they've
- 42:59heard these statistics before because I doubt this is the
- 43:01first time they've roof housed. Yeah, he was talking about the
- 43:04likelihood of getting injured inside home with furniture and
- 43:07the coffee table is like 95% of the time and cause are those.
- 43:12Furniture. Are those serious injuries
- 43:14though? Or is that like the bruise?
- 43:16That I kind. Of have on my knee.
- 43:18Yeah, that's a good call. I don't know.
- 43:20So he also notices that there's a pamphlet there for a
- 43:24pharmaceutical company, and he's like, Oh yeah, yeah, we work
- 43:27with these guys or whatever. Yeah, the insurance company
- 43:30really likes some. They're like some big time
- 43:32pharmaceutical company and they're trying to get their
- 43:34clients to utilize them. He goes.
- 43:36I wonder if the company is affiliated with this hotel,
- 43:39Maybe they do like conventions here or something.
- 43:41Yep, you will find out guy. You are going to find out for
- 43:46sure. So they're at the beach and
- 43:50Trent and Idlib are ruining everybody's vacation.
- 43:53God, yes. I sound like I hate kids.
- 43:55I just these kids are kind of. Just this type of kid, Yeah,
- 43:59yeah, it's just like the it's the same if you were an adult,
- 44:02if you come up to me and just like, hey, what's your name and
- 44:04occupation? Like who?
- 44:05Like get the fuck away from. Me.
- 44:07Yeah. I mean, if I saw our nieces or
- 44:10nephews doing that, I'd be like, hey, sweetie, come back.
- 44:12Come. Back.
- 44:12Yeah. Come over here, stop messing
- 44:13with them. Let them enjoy their vacation.
- 44:15Question. Idlib is sad he doesn't have
- 44:18friends and friends like oh you're my friend.
- 44:20That was kind of sweet. Yeah, that was, that was a sweet
- 44:23like 6 year old mom. And then him saying like, and
- 44:26then maybe my mom will let us FaceTime and then you can move
- 44:30and be our neighbors and we can go to college together and get
- 44:3230 year mortgages. He makes a huge commitment to
- 44:34this kid that. Quite conscious like this is
- 44:37going a little. It's like, I don't know how
- 44:40you're going to be able to fund all this by collecting conch
- 44:43shells, though, so you're going to have to come up with a new
- 44:45occupation. I'm like.
- 44:47Here's the thing, it's almost like Trent was tailor made for
- 44:50this beach because he has an entire life map for every single
- 44:55person the second he meets. Them.
- 44:57You're right. Yeah, it's a weirdo little kid
- 45:00here. The parents at night are
- 45:03fighting. They there's tension in the
- 45:07marriage. You like they make it known that
- 45:10they are going to divorce. They're doing one last vacation
- 45:13for the kids before they break the news.
- 45:14She's like, we were going to separate even before my
- 45:17diagnosis and the doctor said it's benign anyway, so.
- 45:21Yeah, they just weigh it all out there, and the kids over here,
- 45:24it turns into a big fight and then they play their own little
- 45:27game where they're decoding the secret messages.
- 45:29Yeah, it had left a secret message for Trent, and Trent
- 45:32decoded it, and Maddox is like helping distract him, so this is
- 45:37clearly not the first time they've heard their parents.
- 45:38Yeah, it's that's a sad thing to see.
- 45:41Yeah, we see a couple on the beach, most likely early
- 45:46morning, and the woman skinny dips and I really like.
- 45:53I know we don't know until later that his favorite phrase is
- 45:56going to be Odam, but I wish we'd seen her undress and him go
- 46:00Odam. Yeah, he seems, like, unfazed by
- 46:04it. Yeah.
- 46:05She's, like, trying to, like, entice.
- 46:07And he's like, OK. He's like I seen Jaws this we
- 46:12are not skinny dipping while it's still dark out this.
- 46:14Sedan is parked. OK, so at breakfast we see
- 46:21Crystal berating a waiter. She's like, is this actually a
- 46:26calcium punch? Or is it just something that you
- 46:29say that's trendy? Because I have a calcium
- 46:30deficiency and I'm very worried that someday I'm going to get a
- 46:32hump on my back. She's not.
- 46:34She's trying to flirt with the guy in front of Yeah, Charles,
- 46:40you can see the guy cuz she's like this right here and she's
- 46:43pointing at and she's like pushing her chest out and like
- 46:46the guy like bends down. He's like looking at Charles
- 46:48like I don't know if I should lean down.
- 46:51OK. Yeah, that's fine.
- 46:53Yeah, and she also tells Kara to sit up straights, that way she
- 46:56doesn't get a hump on her back because boys won't think she's
- 46:58pretty. And I feel really bad that
- 47:01Kara's getting this message imparted on her.
- 47:03But then later we see Charles, like, be kind of shitty to her.
- 47:07So I'm like, oh, this whole family dynamic is just really
- 47:09fucked. Up Maybe that's why she ran away
- 47:11from Kara, because she had a hump on her belly.
- 47:14Oh my gosh, it's like, Oh my God, you got it in the.
- 47:16Wrong direction. You're too.
- 47:18Fat You couldn't even do that right, Kara.
- 47:21You're too fat. You've got a hump on your back,
- 47:23but in the wrong way. Yeah, it doesn't work.
- 47:25Yeah. And she caught it from humping.
- 47:28Oh, my God, she did. OK, So now we see Patricia have
- 47:36a seizure. She just collapses on there.
- 47:38Jaron, he's like, it's OK, I'm a nurse.
- 47:41He's like over there helping her.
- 47:43And then she's like, hey, sorry for the interruption, everybody.
- 47:45So we're just getting all the clues on everybody's little,
- 47:48yeah, medical issues here. Charles comes over also cuz he's
- 47:52like I'm a doctor I can help and he immediately forgets Darren's
- 47:57name. I imagine him and Lawrence
- 48:00Gordon were probably very good friends.
- 48:02They might have went to Med school together.
- 48:05They love to like, just like, let each other let other people
- 48:08know that they're doctors. Yes, absolutely.
- 48:10I love that. I love that head can.
- 48:14So the manager of the hotel goes over to the family of a guy and
- 48:21Patricia Trenton Maddox and like, hey, so.
- 48:23What are you guys doing today? You want to go to my secret
- 48:26beach? Yeah, we got totally not going
- 48:27to murder you. Yeah, totally cool.
- 48:31Nothing about getting old over there, but just go to the
- 48:34shuttle and they'll like you over there.
- 48:36Yeah, it's we don't tell anybody about this, just our extra
- 48:38special clients. And then they get in the van and
- 48:41then Charles and his shitty family join too.
- 48:44Yeah, like so much for this being a secret beast.
- 48:46Yeah, right. Like he's like someone is like,
- 48:48yeah, you and your family, you all can go by yourself.
- 48:50And then all of a sudden you get another family jump jam in
- 48:53there. And it's this asshole.
- 48:54Yeah, this asshole, he's not OK. Look, he's not bad yet.
- 49:00He's he's like he, he seems like he could be a little whatever
- 49:05with himself, but he's not like a terrible he's been helping
- 49:07people. So he's not a terrible person
- 49:10yet. I listen, I am never gonna make
- 49:15an excuse that a doctor can be an asshole to a person just
- 49:17because they're a doctor. I don't care.
- 49:20He's an asshole too. Everybody around him.
- 49:24But I'm kind of going off on another tangent because there
- 49:26are a lot of like specialists out there that have absolutely 0
- 49:29bedside manner and it's like, cool, you still have to treat me
- 49:32like a human being when I'm here being treated.
- 49:34Yeah, I would hate to have this. Guy's Yeah, exactly.
- 49:36I know, absolutely. So they arrive there, they all
- 49:39start playing, they see mid sized sedan just kind of sitting
- 49:42off to the side. I love this because Maddox gets
- 49:47really excited about it and tells her dad she's like, I want
- 49:49to go meet him. He goes leave him alone, he's on
- 49:51vacation. She goes but that's midsize
- 49:52Sedan and he goes, what's his surname?
- 49:54Sedan. Yeah, right.
- 49:56That's funny. So the kids are all playing and
- 50:00I this again, it feels so realistic and you can really
- 50:03tell M Night has like three daughters like it.
- 50:06Like Maddox being the oldest probably has been in the
- 50:10situation plenty of times where she's had to like entertain
- 50:12Trent and possibly Trent's friends at things like this.
- 50:16So they're all just playing freeze tag together.
- 50:19Then I wrote that the kids play a devastating, realistic version
- 50:24of house with their dolls because Kara and Trent each have
- 50:28a doll and who's like, we're going to get married and we're
- 50:30going to live together and I or no, what is it?
- 50:34Oh, I can't stay with you anymore.
- 50:36I'm leaving. I'm going to go live in a
- 50:38condominium. Yeah, this is.
- 50:40This is so weirdly specific. That's probably like snippets of
- 50:45arguments that he's heard between.
- 50:47That's what I was thinking too. Yeah, it sounds kind of like
- 50:50that. They find a bunch of buried shit
- 50:53from the hotel by the wall, like the the Rockwall, and it's like
- 51:00silverware and stuff. It's all rusted.
- 51:02So Chris was like, hey, stay away from that.
- 51:04So that way you don't like get an infection and die.
- 51:07Oh, and we forgot to mention the man himself.
- 51:10That's how I wrote him down in my notes.
- 51:12Midnight Shyamalan is the chauffeur.
- 51:14He's the driver. He's like, call me when you're
- 51:17ready to come back. Otherwise I'll just be back at
- 51:205. Here's all of these picnic
- 51:21baskets, and they're like, this is a lot of food.
- 51:24He goes, well, you have three kids that's like to eat.
- 51:25Kids like to eat. Yeah.
- 51:27And then Charles is like, are you gonna help us carry this
- 51:31stuff? Like we've got an elderly woman
- 51:33and we've got sick people. And kids.
- 51:34And kids. And he's like, he's like, Nah,
- 51:37gotta get back. Gotta get back, yeah?
- 51:40Which is funny because he gets back and immediately comes back.
- 51:43Yeah, because he brings Patricia and Jaron there too.
- 51:47It's important to note also cuz at one point on the beach
- 51:49earlier when Trenton and Lib were together, they were like
- 51:52noticing the fish all around their feet and on this beach
- 51:55there are no fish. Yeah, no fish.
- 51:57Yeah. And when he's over there, he's
- 51:59in the water just sitting there. And as he's making note of that,
- 52:02there's a body that floats into. Yeah, I wrote.
- 52:05No fish. Yes, Cadaver.
- 52:07Oh yeah, yes, cadaver for sure. It's the woman that went skinny
- 52:11to being earlier and they carry her out and we just get to zoom
- 52:16in on mid size sedan's face and he goes oh damn.
- 52:19And his nose starts bleeding. Yeah.
- 52:21Prisca is gonna distract the kids while the other adults are,
- 52:24like, looking at the situation. The kids are very, very hungry.
- 52:28This has been mentioned several times.
- 52:29They're like, I'm starving. So Agnes, that's Charles's mom.
- 52:36She says that her chest is feeling funny.
- 52:39And Crystal's like, well, I told you we should have gone on a
- 52:41yacht. I don't.
- 52:43I mean, people can die on yachts too, Crystal.
- 52:46It's true, but she's also right and they should have gone on a
- 52:49yacht. So Trent is telling his mom
- 52:55that, like, his suit feels tight and she was like, loosen it.
- 52:57And then she like, looks at her and she's like, oh.
- 53:00Yeah, like, yo, you're, you're growing a little bit.
- 53:03I don't know, there's something weird happening here.
- 53:06It's revealed Charles is a cardioratic cardiothoracic.
- 53:11Cardiothoracic. Surgery.
- 53:13Medical officer and so Presco's trying to get him to look at the
- 53:18kids, but he's like trying to get reception so that way he can
- 53:23call the police and he very much suspects mid sized sedan of
- 53:27having killed her. But guys like, no, I, you know,
- 53:33I work with these type of statistics all the time.
- 53:35And I know that like statistically, if you die on
- 53:38vacation, it's usually something like drowning due to like
- 53:41exhaustion or alcohol intoxication or something like
- 53:44that. And he's just like, she was just
- 53:46into me. We just came out here together.
- 53:49He's like, I didn't do anything, barely knew her, but we're just
- 53:53enjoying time together. He said that they just both got
- 53:55diagnosed with and they just needed to get away and clear
- 53:59their heads. Yeah, she had Miss, so I feel
- 54:02like that's also an important factor for them to think about
- 54:05with her swimming. Yeah, that's true.
- 54:06Yeah. So the mom has further
- 54:11complications and goes over there and she unfortunately
- 54:14passes. Yeah, Jaron is checking around
- 54:18for signal on his phone now that him and Patricia have arrived.
- 54:20The van driver's already like they they wanna go and try and
- 54:23get the van driver real quick before he leaves, but when they
- 54:27go into the slot Canyon, they get headaches and then they wake
- 54:30up back on the beach. Just.
- 54:31Black. Out.
- 54:32Yeah, yeah. These are so abrupt way that
- 54:34they're done. Yeah, how are they getting back
- 54:36to the beach like I. Stumble up themselves, I know.
- 54:39They're saying that they stumble back themselves.
- 54:40It's just like, why don't we ever see that?
- 54:42I don't, I don't know. I like we.
- 54:44Yeah, you're right. We never see a single person
- 54:46actually walk out themselves. They all just teleport back from
- 54:49our perspective. Yeah, so they.
- 54:55We hear, let's see. So Trent and Maddox are talking
- 54:59to Jaron and Patricia. Patricia is a therapist.
- 55:02And Jaron's like, OK, I'm really good about this.
- 55:05Let me guess, you're all's ages. He guesses that Trent is 11 and
- 55:09Maddox is 16. And Trent's like, no, I'm not.
- 55:12I'm 6. And he's like, are you fucking
- 55:15with me like? Yeah, it's like.
- 55:17Patricia's like they've been through something traumatic.
- 55:20They're just acting out. I like how he's like, let's
- 55:22leave. He's like, I'm fed up with these
- 55:25kids. Yeah.
- 55:28So. And then Prisket comes up and
- 55:30she's like, have you seen my children?
- 55:32And Jaron's like, are you fucking with me?
- 55:34Like, what is going on? Yeah.
- 55:37And the kids are scared and they run over to the mom and they
- 55:40just like her turn, runs over to mom, gets a hug, and then she
- 55:44calls Guy over and Guy sees Maddox.
- 55:46And like, they're all just fully aged up now and they're just
- 55:49kind of freaking out wondering what the fuck's happening.
- 55:51And mid size sedan is panicking at this moment.
- 55:54So he runs through the salt Canyon and Charles chases him.
- 55:59But both of them end up liking out and waking up on the beach.
- 56:03Priska says that they need to find a way out because
- 56:06something's wrong with the kids. You guys look for a way out.
- 56:09I'll say what? The kids, yeah.
- 56:12Friska, come on now. Actually, everybody go do the
- 56:15work. I'll stay here with the kids and
- 56:17do nothing. She so they all go their
- 56:21separate ways but I'll end up waking up on the beach at the
- 56:25same time Prisca and Guy go off to the side to talk and she
- 56:29thinks the kids are reacting to something.
- 56:30Which like, I get it, human nature wanting to figure out an
- 56:33explanation for this. This would be the weirdest
- 56:35fucking allergic reaction ever. She's saying that I don't know,
- 56:38the virus or something. Really.
- 56:40Really. Is that what you like?
- 56:41Come on, think a little bit more about this for a second.
- 56:43There's no virus that like, rapidly ages people.
- 56:46No, not. Not this way anyway.
- 56:48Yeah, so Charles has like a little bit of a freak out here.
- 56:53His issues are starting to advance and he cuts good size
- 56:57with his knife. Yeah, And like, they're all
- 57:01freaking out. He's got this big cut on his
- 57:03face, and he goes, Oh my God, I think I'm going into shock.
- 57:06My face is numb. And Sharon's like, let me take a
- 57:09look at it. Meanwhile, Charles is like, I
- 57:10don't know what happened. Yeah.
- 57:13And Jaron looks at it. He's got just a scar across his
- 57:16cheek now. Yeah, Yeah.
- 57:17You see it like it's just like healing up like instantly.
- 57:20Yeah. This is insane.
- 57:22Yeah. So he's talking a little bit
- 57:25more about being there with the girl.
- 57:27He's like, you know, they had recently started talking.
- 57:30She'd just been diagnosed with Ms. and they came out to the
- 57:33beach and she started swimming like Michael Phelps.
- 57:35And then the next thing I know, you know, you guys are here and
- 57:38they're like, wait, what did you say he was swimming like Michael
- 57:40Phelps? I don't know, butterfly stroke.
- 57:42I don't know that shit. And I thought that was his
- 57:46character is fucking hilarious. And I love every single moment
- 57:49that he's on screen. Yeah, he's pretty funny.
- 57:52The dog dies. Well first of all, Patricia is
- 57:57suggesting that this is a group psychosis.
- 58:02Did I write about the dog? OK I must have left the dog off
- 58:06my notes cuz I just wanna it. Was right there.
- 58:08After all that happened, the dog dies.
- 58:09I think that's what breaks the tension.
- 58:10There. Yeah.
- 58:12So Charles confirms that the kids have aged biologically.
- 58:15He's a doctor, so he's, you know, he's like.
- 58:18But this doesn't make any sense. My daughter Kara just turned 6
- 58:20two weeks ago. And then Jaron points out that
- 58:24this is going to be a long swim against the current.
- 58:26They don't even know how far it would be once they get around
- 58:28the rocks. Who really thinks they can do
- 58:30that? Meanwhile, mid sized Sedan and
- 58:33Maddox are walking along the beach and he tells her his name
- 58:36is Brendan. His mom's an attorney, his dad's
- 58:37a dentist. He's got a blood clotting
- 58:39problem and just wanted to feel connected to something bigger.
- 58:41And he's like, I don't know why I'm telling you all this.
- 58:43I just feel like I needed to say it to somebody before something
- 58:45happens. It feels like they have a thing
- 58:48here for a minute. Isn't, doesn't.
- 58:51It doesn't. It feels vaguely inappropriate,
- 58:53yeah. Like yeah, her body is aged up,
- 58:56but like, she's still a kid. And it's just, and this is where
- 59:00they kind of try to explain like the mind aging thing a little
- 59:03bit because she's like, you know, yesterday I had all of
- 59:06these thoughts and they were so loud.
- 59:08But today my thoughts have more colors in them, but they're
- 59:11quieter. Yeah.
- 59:12And then she's like, yeah. And like, I just like.
- 59:14I don't think my parents would understand.
- 59:16Yeah, which is very. Yeah, puberty right there.
- 59:21Patricia says that everybody needs to feel safe so that way
- 59:24they can make rational decisions and is trying to get everybody
- 59:30to, like, explain a little bit of what they're doing there,
- 59:33just, you know, describe themselves a little bit.
- 59:35She asked why Charles and Crystal are there, and Crystal's
- 59:38kind of like, vague about it. She's like, Oh well, Charles has
- 59:40had some stress and you can tell he really doesn't want her to
- 59:43say anything. Yeah, he's, he's got some issues
- 59:45that we're trying to work through right now and, you know,
- 59:49that's pretty much it. And then?
- 59:51Patricia, obviously with the seizures.
- 59:54She goes to Priska, and Priska completely sidesteps the
- 59:57question. Priska is she's kind of a
- 59:59manipulative little lady. She kind of sucks.
- 1:00:02Honestly. Yeah, she doesn't want to talk
- 1:00:04about it, but then she's kind of forced to.
- 1:00:06She starts getting short of breath and guys like, well, she
- 1:00:09has a tumor, but it's benign. And Jaron.
- 1:00:12A golf ball. Yeah, Jaron comes over and he's
- 1:00:14like, this is the size of a golf ball and she goes, no, it's 3
- 1:00:16centimeters and then she passes out.
- 1:00:18Now it's softball size. They have an impromptu surgery,
- 1:00:21but Charles is getting distracted as he's, like, doing
- 1:00:24this, talking about the movie with Marlon Brando and Jack
- 1:00:27Nicholson. Yeah, and they have to this
- 1:00:32scene. It's cool.
- 1:00:35It's. Cool.
- 1:00:36But so they're they're trying to cut the tumor out of her.
- 1:00:40And because she's healing so rapidly, they're having to keep
- 1:00:44their hands in there. Yeah, like it will keep sealing
- 1:00:47up. So then they make another
- 1:00:49incision and put their hands in there.
- 1:00:51So. It's the size of a cantaloupe by
- 1:00:53the time they pull it out. And I just have a thing like God
- 1:00:58forbid we bring logic into this movie, but if we were to in this
- 1:01:03situation, would they not have had the skin kind of form and
- 1:01:07heal around their fingers considering it would have been
- 1:01:10over a long period of time? Some of them were saying like if
- 1:01:14the skin was starting to. They did, yeah.
- 1:01:17OK. And this set then?
- 1:01:18Well, I think my more my bigger problem, and this is something I
- 1:01:21meant to say with my bad but I forgot about, is that these
- 1:01:26people when they're having scars from all of these, like they're
- 1:01:30all such neat little cute scars. And I'm like, think about if it
- 1:01:34was me because I've got nasty scar.
- 1:01:36I keloid like crazy. So like, all of my surgery scars
- 1:01:39are very bumpy and red and gross for like years.
- 1:01:45So like, I could see it like fading, you know, after a couple
- 1:01:48of hours. But like, this right here should
- 1:01:51just be like a nasty little lump.
- 1:01:52Yeah, especially since it's not getting medical care.
- 1:01:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, she comes too. And she's like, oh, man, I must
- 1:01:59have just passed out. And they're like, like you'd
- 1:02:01have a full surgery. She goes, well, I feel really
- 1:02:03good. Yeah.
- 1:02:04She's like, it's actually kind of amazing.
- 1:02:06Go Prisca. So mid size goes over and checks
- 1:02:11his girlfriend's body, pulls back the tarp.
- 1:02:13I like that both of us at this point in our notes gave up
- 1:02:16trying to find a different way to describe her and just wrote
- 1:02:18girlfriend. Yeah, I mean, they don't even
- 1:02:20name her. I don't think so.
- 1:02:21Yeah. And like, she's fully decomposed
- 1:02:24now. It's just a skeleton.
- 1:02:25He's like, so can we all agree I didn't do this?
- 1:02:29Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and Prisca comes over and
- 1:02:32she's like, you know, this isn't my area of specialty, but I do
- 1:02:35work in a museum, so I see some of this stuff.
- 1:02:37And I know that like exposed to elements this way, it would take
- 1:02:40about 7 years to decompose down to the bone.
- 1:02:42And this happened within three hours.
- 1:02:44So three hours was seven years on the beach here.
- 1:02:48So they all realize time is fucked up on the beach now.
- 1:02:51Guy has wrinkles now he's starting to noticeably age a
- 1:02:55little bit. Yeah.
- 1:02:57And they do the math and mid size realizes, OK, you age 50
- 1:03:02years in one day on the beach. Yeah.
- 1:03:04It's also why they have been blacking out because their body
- 1:03:09can't acclimate as you're walking back to the normal part.
- 1:03:13Of the yeah, they kind of like in it too.
- 1:03:14When you're scuba diving and you want to come back up, you've got
- 1:03:18to do it in phases. So they're like, maybe one of us
- 1:03:21can do that, but we'd have to do it over the course of eight
- 1:03:24hours, 8 or 10 hours. Who wants to give up that much
- 1:03:27of their life? And they're saying it's about 30
- 1:03:30minutes equals one year. It's roughly how they're
- 1:03:32estimating it just based off of everything.
- 1:03:35Which is really unfortunate because Trent and Kara are
- 1:03:37exploring each other's teenage bodies in their tent.
- 1:03:41Yep, and she is immediately pregnant.
- 1:03:44That's some upsetting shit right there.
- 1:03:47She's five months pregnant by the time she walks out and over
- 1:03:51to them. Yeah, and she, she was like, oh,
- 1:03:55we were just playing and I got a little fat, That's all, Charles.
- 1:04:03He talks about the. Movie a little bit more he gets
- 1:04:05a little bit more racist again, saying Jaron was like trying to
- 1:04:08steal his stuff and break into his house so.
- 1:04:12Oh, and Crystal has aged at this point.
- 1:04:14Now she's starting to get some wrinkles and she's having like a
- 1:04:16little panic attack. And she's freaking out about
- 1:04:19Kara and she was like, I've got to save her.
- 1:04:21But she like runs away from her, which is not like Kara is
- 1:04:25literally saying mom. I'm scared.
- 1:04:26Yeah, it's so. Sad.
- 1:04:28It's awful. Yeah.
- 1:04:29And I like how they shot this because it was a single.
- 1:04:34Yeah, and there's. So much chaos.
- 1:04:36Yeah. And like, we've got Trent over
- 1:04:38there and guys, like, trying to have this, like, conversation
- 1:04:42with him that he hasn't had yet. And he goes, well, no, I know
- 1:04:45that you get pregnant that way, but I thought you had to do it
- 1:04:47like 10 times. And he goes, well, no, she's
- 1:04:49going to have a baby. And then Prisk is like, she's
- 1:04:51going to be in a lot of pain, but it'll pass.
- 1:04:55And so there's like all this panic and he's like, we're going
- 1:04:58to get married and we're never going to get divorced.
- 1:05:01Yeah, Yep. And then like immediately the
- 1:05:05baby's crying. He's like, Oh yeah.
- 1:05:07We remember they cry. That helps them know how to
- 1:05:09breathe. Yeah.
- 1:05:10And then the baby dies. Yep, just as.
- 1:05:13Quickly as it was born, Patricia says that, like, basically they
- 1:05:17set it down to clean it and because everything moves too
- 1:05:21fast, like, that amount of time was enough for the baby maybe to
- 1:05:25die. Yeah.
- 1:05:26So. You can't have kids on this,
- 1:05:28apparently. Yeah, which is fucking dark.
- 1:05:32Yep Maddox goes to get Crystal cuz she had passed out in the
- 1:05:37slot Canyon and Crystal is like she is freaking out and crying
- 1:05:44and. She runs off and just runs into
- 1:05:46The Cave. Well, no, at first Charles sees
- 1:05:49her and she's like, you know, distraught.
- 1:05:51And he goes, you should put on some makeup.
- 1:05:53Yeah, yeah, he doesn't say that. Quad and then so she runs off to
- 1:05:56The Cave and Maddox follows her cuz she's like trying to she's
- 1:06:01just trying to do her best. Yeah.
- 1:06:03And she was like, you know, when I was younger, I was in love
- 1:06:06with a man, but he was too ugly and poor.
- 1:06:09This was so out of place. I felt this wasn't like, I don't
- 1:06:14know, like, were you trying to give us insight on the character
- 1:06:16here? I just like, it felt like you
- 1:06:19were trying to give like a meaningful dialogue and it just
- 1:06:22didn't have any impact on me. It was just like we could cut
- 1:06:25this. I think she's got a lot of
- 1:06:27layers of generational trauma. There's a lot of focus for her
- 1:06:30on good looks and attracting a husband that can provide a
- 1:06:35stable life. Because we've seen her kind of
- 1:06:37make some of those suggestions to her daughter, Like her
- 1:06:39daughter's saying, like, it's OK, I just got a little fat.
- 1:06:41Like you know that she's used the F word around her daughter
- 1:06:45plenty of times. Well, sure, but like, what does
- 1:06:48that do for this story at this moment?
- 1:06:50I don't think it does anything other than build up the
- 1:06:52characters a little bit. Yeah, it just didn't really work
- 1:06:54for me. Yeah.
- 1:06:57So Charles then stabs mid size sedan like a lot like killing
- 1:07:03him levels. Yeah, like death.
- 1:07:05Yeah, he's he's dead now. And then that's upsetting
- 1:07:07because he was my favorite character.
- 1:07:10So he's gone and they they managed to get the knife from
- 1:07:14him and Jaron's like, all right, cool.
- 1:07:16I was on the swim team. So forget all that shit I said
- 1:07:18earlier. I'm going to swim around the
- 1:07:20box. Yeah, so he goes.
- 1:07:21Charles has fully deteriorated mentally at this point.
- 1:07:26Guy talks about maybe trying to climb the rock and they're all
- 1:07:28like, that's not a good idea. And he, he points out everybody
- 1:07:35in their groups is there cuz that somebody in their group is
- 1:07:38sick. And then he asked Prisca, he's
- 1:07:41like, how did you find this, this resort?
- 1:07:45And she goes, oh, I got an ad for it and I want it in a
- 1:07:47sweepstakes. And they all have like similar
- 1:07:51kinds of stories and all of their plans were like arranged
- 1:07:55their visas and whatever back at the hotel.
- 1:07:58It's going to be so easy to just basically wipe them off the.
- 1:08:01Yeah, and they can be completely wiped out.
- 1:08:04Yeah, she got it from the pharmacy, she said.
- 1:08:06And she wiped his sweep 6 and they were all, they realized
- 1:08:08that they were all hand chosen. Yeah.
- 1:08:10So Maddox asks Prisca about the separation between her and Guy.
- 1:08:15Like what the plan was? Yeah, she.
- 1:08:18She kind of fully understands what's going on there and wants
- 1:08:20to ask her mom about what happened.
- 1:08:22And then she reveals that she like there was, she's like, was
- 1:08:26there somebody else? And she shakes her head yes.
- 1:08:28And she said she works all day in a Museum of nameless people
- 1:08:32behind glass, and she was scared that she was going to become one
- 1:08:35of them with her tumor. And then she was like, please
- 1:08:38try and understand Maddox. And she's like, I need time,
- 1:08:40mom. Like, I just, I need time.
- 1:08:42There's this has been a real fucked up day.
- 1:08:44I don't really think that there's like any rational way to
- 1:08:46make that make sense. No, that was just like I.
- 1:08:49Mean it it it's one of those things that like it makes sense,
- 1:08:54but it's not a thing that is ever going to make like.
- 1:08:57It's not a good excuse. There's no excusing what
- 1:08:59happened. Like, I get it, you can, you can
- 1:09:01have like this existential crisis.
- 1:09:03It's not only like she had a middle life crisis.
- 1:09:05Yes. Is what it was.
- 1:09:06Accelerated by by her health diagnosis.
- 1:09:10But also, this is one of those things that like, it's very
- 1:09:13complex because Prisca is a very much like an adult human being,
- 1:09:20like her own entity. And these are all complex things
- 1:09:23and everything. And she's sharing them with her
- 1:09:27daughter who is very much impacted by these.
- 1:09:30And it's never going to be an easy, like neutral conversation
- 1:09:34to have where she can just hear her mom's point of view and be
- 1:09:37like, I completely get where you're going through.
- 1:09:38And I'm in no way impacted by this.
- 1:09:40She's like, no, my whole life is falling apart right now.
- 1:09:42I need to go take some time to think about all of this.
- 1:09:44Yeah, that's like, you can't ever have that type of
- 1:09:48conversation with your children. It's always going to come across
- 1:09:51as heavy and you can't get the biases like out of there for
- 1:09:54that. So she goes in the water to
- 1:09:57think, and that's where she finds Sharon's body.
- 1:09:59They assume he drowns when he got too close to the rocks that
- 1:10:03they made him unconscious. Yeah, probably actually the
- 1:10:06case. Yeah, he probably passed out
- 1:10:07there. Karen and Trent are talking and
- 1:10:10Kara's just like she's mad about the loss of like everything in
- 1:10:13their lives that we kind of referred to at the beginning of
- 1:10:16this episode. Like they they missed all of
- 1:10:18their big milestones. Like just yeah, she wants.
- 1:10:22To go grow up. So she's decided that she's
- 1:10:25going to climb the rocks and get up to the top.
- 1:10:27Yeah. And she does surprisingly well.
- 1:10:29Really good. She for a 16 year old who
- 1:10:32probably, I mean by we can definitively say no climbing
- 1:10:35experience because we've seen her grow up from a child here.
- 1:10:38Yeah, I'm like, what is the situation with like her?
- 1:10:41Like muscle endurance and everything, you know what I
- 1:10:44mean? Because like she grew so rapid.
- 1:10:46Like what? What's her muscle tone like?
- 1:10:48It can't be good. Yeah.
- 1:10:49Yeah, you got to strength of a baby and kids like a teenager's
- 1:10:55body. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:56So but she gets way up there and then she makes it to a certain
- 1:11:00point and then she also passes out and falls and dies.
- 1:11:03Yep, and it's really hard watching Trent cry the way he
- 1:11:08does and his dad holding him and it's just sad and.
- 1:11:12He barely knew her, but that was the love of his wife.
- 1:11:15Again, Trent, this was a problem for him even before the speech
- 1:11:18that accelerated everything. That's true, he committed to
- 1:11:21Idlib and he only knew him for a second.
- 1:11:23Yeah, we're going to be neighbors forever.
- 1:11:25Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 1:11:27This kid has major attachment. Issues.
- 1:11:32So at this point, Patricia is starting to panic.
- 1:11:35She goes pool noodles. She's like, I haven't talked to
- 1:11:37my sister in years. I need to make this right.
- 1:11:39I'm going to take these pool doodles and I'm going to swim
- 1:11:41out. Those pool noodles are not
- 1:11:43enough in the ocean. Yeah, I you know what?
- 1:11:46Sure, you got this, Patricia. Except you don't because she has
- 1:11:49a seizure. Yeah, and she has one after
- 1:11:51another and like they just keep coming and then she eventually
- 1:11:54succumbs from the effects of them.
- 1:11:57Meanwhile, guys going blind. So that's fun for him, yeah.
- 1:12:01It's just blurry vision suddenly.
- 1:12:03You like and you can kind of see his face.
- 1:12:05He's like, well that's not fun. That's my favorite thing when he
- 1:12:09gets older. I just like his like reactions.
- 1:12:12Like anytime you look at him, it doesn't matter what shit's going
- 1:12:14on. He's got like this like little
- 1:12:15like smile going on all the. Time.
- 1:12:17Yeah, I'm. Blind.
- 1:12:18Yeah, he's like, OK, man. Then we see Crystal is hiding
- 1:12:24under a scarf and she's looking for Kara.
- 1:12:28Priska's going deaf in one ear. Yep, she's entirely deaf in her
- 1:12:33left ear. Crystal officially realizes she
- 1:12:37has a hump on her back and that destroys her mentally and that
- 1:12:41her daughter dying wasn't, you know, that wasn't her main
- 1:12:43concern, her hump on her back, that that destroyed everything
- 1:12:46for her. So she goes and hides in The
- 1:12:48Cave. Is that what happened?
- 1:12:51She ran off on her own beforehand and we find out later
- 1:12:54that she grew the hump We. Don't know.
- 1:12:56She comes out because she goes to grab her little like makeup
- 1:12:58box or something and it's like shiny and she looks at her
- 1:13:01reflection and she sees the hump on her back.
- 1:13:03Yeah, OK, all right. So yeah, Guy tells Prisca that
- 1:13:08he saw her text with the guy that she had an affair with and.
- 1:13:12He said he says romantic things and then he says I don't know if
- 1:13:17I would have been OK with any guy but that.
- 1:13:19Guy. Yeah, that guy's a joke.
- 1:13:20He's a freak. So at first I thought he was
- 1:13:24gonna be like, he says romantic things and I don't say romantic
- 1:13:27things to you. And I thought maybe he was gonna
- 1:13:29like have a moment of self reflection and then he could say
- 1:13:32the whole thing. But he's like, man, what a
- 1:13:34weenie saying things. Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's
- 1:13:39funny. But they they're working their
- 1:13:42way up to like a heavy conversation there.
- 1:13:44But they they're intervened by Maddox and Trent finding the
- 1:13:49journal that were detailing the previous guests experiences.
- 1:13:54Yeah, they like wrote down previous guests names and
- 1:13:56addresses and their suspicions about like they kind of make a
- 1:14:01science fiction story around the lore of the speech.
- 1:14:03Yeah, and apparently they know what that metal slows the aging
- 1:14:07process on the beach. Yeah.
- 1:14:08And so they're like, we need to figure out a way to make like, a
- 1:14:11metal protector or something to try and get off the beach.
- 1:14:13Like, you know, the lead vest you wear when you get an X-ray
- 1:14:16at the dentist? And they notice that there's a
- 1:14:19camera on the mountain they've been getting glimpses of, like
- 1:14:21this little reflection on the mountain, and they've see now
- 1:14:24that somebody's actually just recording everything up there.
- 1:14:26I wrote camera on hill, but it looks like I wrote camera on
- 1:14:30hell. Camera on hell.
- 1:14:31I'd watch that reality TV show. So now it's.
- 1:14:36The knife and Prisca's bag and he takes it and he decides he's
- 1:14:43going to stab guy because he's worried that he's going to tell
- 1:14:46about how he murdered mid size sedan.
- 1:14:49And Prisca jumps in to help. And then she also leaves again
- 1:14:52real quick to go to the kids because that's her MO.
- 1:14:54She's like, I don't want to deal with this right now.
- 1:14:56I'm going to go check on the kids.
- 1:14:57It's a fucked up situation because Charles or a guy can't
- 1:15:01see Charles, so he's like, hey Prisca, who is this coming sing
- 1:15:04at me and he's saying it into her deaf ears.
- 1:15:06So she isn't going to answer. She doesn't hear anything.
- 1:15:09So Charles just crawls over there.
- 1:15:11He's a guy and so stabbing him and she's not even hearing the
- 1:15:13attacks and he's just getting stabbed the.
- 1:15:15Opening of scream four that or scream four saw 4 the trap where
- 1:15:20they're like art blank has like. Yeah, the eyes and the now.
- 1:15:25Yeah. Yeah, it kind of is a little bit
- 1:15:27like that. Yeah.
- 1:15:28So Prisco like she, she ran to go get the rusted knife.
- 1:15:32That's what it was. Yeah, she tells the kids to go
- 1:15:34hide. So they hide in the little cave
- 1:15:38slot, Canyon area, whatever, and Crystal's there, and she is
- 1:15:41getting, like, worse. Her calcium deficiency is
- 1:15:44apparently a very real thing, and she is freaking out and she
- 1:15:48wants to kill them. Except she drops a rock on her
- 1:15:51arm. It breaks the arm really
- 1:15:54catastrophically. And then it sets really quickly
- 1:15:56because remember, it's really fast.
- 1:15:58It just heals in a weird way, yeah.
- 1:16:00And then she just kind of falls over and keeps breaking bones
- 1:16:03until she just gets into she suffers from bone itis.
- 1:16:07She was so busy being an 80s guy she didn't cure her bone itis.
- 1:16:10She really did like oh. My God.
- 1:16:13It's basically the way she curls up like that is exactly like
- 1:16:16that. I I would not be at all
- 1:16:20surprised to find out that M Night is a Futurama fan,
- 1:16:23actually. Seriously, this looks like an
- 1:16:25actual doc. That was her illness.
- 1:16:27She had bone Itis. Yeah.
- 1:16:28She had bone itis. So meanwhile, Kriska has taken
- 1:16:34the rusty knife and she cuts Charles with it and he dies of
- 1:16:38sepsis. Yeah, it's really gross sepsis.
- 1:16:42It's crazy, man. Yeah.
- 1:16:43The rust just spreads through the bloodstream and then all the
- 1:16:45way up to his head. And he just said, like, Can you
- 1:16:48imagine all like, considering he had like, that schizophrenia
- 1:16:52going on and on top of his brain, like being infected by
- 1:16:55rust and shit. What the fuck was that like?
- 1:16:58Oh man, that must have been a painful couple of minutes.
- 1:17:00Yeah, I can only imagine. Yeah.
- 1:17:02So So the family is just left alone sitting on the beach and
- 1:17:08Maddox sings to her mom and the parents kind of make up to each
- 1:17:12other and then. Yeah, he's like, were we
- 1:17:14fighting? He's like, yes, we were.
- 1:17:16He's like, I'm not mad at anymore.
- 1:17:17And then he. Falls back and dies, and then
- 1:17:21the mom is gonna go stare contemplatively into the sea.
- 1:17:25But she doesn't make it that far either.
- 1:17:29Honestly, this part right here is a status for me.
- 1:17:31Yeah, just seeing this right here because you can see it's
- 1:17:34such a real moment right there and then.
- 1:17:37Yeah, man. So it's just Trenton Maddox now?
- 1:17:41Yeah, in the morning, they're older.
- 1:17:44They're like in their 50s now, yeah.
- 1:17:46And then they decide, hey, let's go build a sandcastle.
- 1:17:49Yeah, well, cuz they just assume that they're gonna end up.
- 1:17:52Dying. Yeah, they will die.
- 1:17:53That night, yeah. So they're like, what should we
- 1:17:55do? And so they make a sandcastle
- 1:17:56and they're just kind of chit chatting.
- 1:17:58And then he says something about I never even decoded that he's
- 1:18:00like me and Idlib thought we were so smart.
- 1:18:03So apparently the brains do mature eventually because I've
- 1:18:06had plenty of these moments about my younger stuff where I'm
- 1:18:09like man I am such a know it all asshole.
- 1:18:11So like, yeah, he's like, man, I should be getting that
- 1:18:14condominium with him right now. We should be having that
- 1:18:17mortgage together. Yeah, me and Kara should be
- 1:18:20married with a rainbow baby. And yeah.
- 1:18:24But yeah, so he was like, I never even decoded that last
- 1:18:28message. And Maddox was like, why don't
- 1:18:30you? Yeah, so he does he.
- 1:18:32Does and it says my uncle doesn't like the coral.
- 1:18:36Doesn't like coral? Yeah.
- 1:18:37So they see a giant coral pile out there in the ocean.
- 1:18:41Believe it's called a reef. A giant coral reef way out there
- 1:18:45in the ocean. So they get in the water and
- 1:18:49they swim for it. And wouldn't you know, there's a
- 1:18:51whole tunnel system of coral. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:53So they swim through it. That's a dangerous coral is
- 1:18:56fucking sharp. Yeah, it is.
- 1:18:58This is real fucking dangerous. And that would have been
- 1:19:01honestly more interesting about the like.
- 1:19:03That they get cut in there. Yeah, the instead of her little
- 1:19:05rat. Getting Yeah.
- 1:19:06Stuck like them getting cut and him seeing the blood and be like
- 1:19:10they're probably dead, yeah. So yeah, she what we see is
- 1:19:15they're swimming in there and Maddox gets caught and then he
- 1:19:18has to go back and try and rescue her.
- 1:19:20And then it cuts and it cuts back to M night up on the
- 1:19:23mountain. And he calls into the
- 1:19:24headquarters of the lab. He's like, Yep, they definitely
- 1:19:27didn't make it. Almost made it.
- 1:19:29I don't know how they figured out about the coral, but
- 1:19:32whatever, they're done. Suddenly they just decided to
- 1:19:34swim for it. It was kind of weird but I
- 1:19:35watched it for a minute and 1/2 definitely did.
- 1:19:38He may know it's like and don't worry especially after the last
- 1:19:41time at the breach. So if somebody did get out and
- 1:19:43he makes an even though they died drowning as soon as they
- 1:19:47made it to the other side. Yeah, so he drives back.
- 1:19:51It's the pharmacy lab for Warren and Warren.
- 1:19:55They take a moment for the subjects of trial 73 and he
- 1:20:00says. But the good news is, is that we
- 1:20:02did discover that one of our medications was in fact
- 1:20:05effective. Our epileptic test subject went
- 1:20:108 hours without a seizure. That's the equivalent of almost
- 1:20:1316 1/2 years. We effectively cured her
- 1:20:16epilepsy with one dose of medications.
- 1:20:19We are 1000% positive that this was not a one off situation.
- 1:20:23We're going to fast track this shit and make it out there.
- 1:20:26Yeah, yeah, it's so fucking. Weird.
- 1:20:28And one of the other people's like, Hey, I still think maybe
- 1:20:30we should have like the the physical and mental health
- 1:20:33patients in separate categories because, you know, our
- 1:20:36schizophrenia subject killed our blood clot subjects and they're
- 1:20:41like shut. Up.
- 1:20:42Wait, did they mention if Jaron had anything?
- 1:20:45No, he was there with Patricia. So he was just OK?
- 1:20:47I didn't know yet. Yeah, no, he's again one of
- 1:20:49those like casualties. Yeah, yeah, OK.
- 1:20:52And meanwhile, while this has been happening, we are getting
- 1:20:55glimpses of of Trent and Maddox arriving back at the hotel.
- 1:21:00And this is only the next day, Trent goes up to one of those
- 1:21:02people that he bugged on the beach that was very good-natured
- 1:21:04about it, much better than me. Yeah.
- 1:21:06And he goes, you're a cop, right?
- 1:21:07The guy's like, yeah, yeah. And so he gives him this
- 1:21:12notebook that had the names and addresses of all of the people.
- 1:21:15And so the cop goes in and he calls and all of those people
- 1:21:18are confirmed missing people and.
- 1:21:22Yeah, he, you know what? Good for him.
- 1:21:24He he believes that all this weird shit that this kid, that
- 1:21:28he was talking to this kid asked you your occupation, your name.
- 1:21:31And now he's 50 years old. Yeah.
- 1:21:33Yep. Just right there.
- 1:21:34And then he stops a van that's coming up like he knocks into.
- 1:21:40Yeah, you, you. They're doing the whole, they're
- 1:21:42doing the whole thing from the opening where they were like
- 1:21:44giving them drinks because they're greeted with drinks
- 1:21:46after they get out of the the shuttle.
- 1:21:49Yeah. Based on their preferences, but
- 1:21:51that's what actually has their medication.
- 1:21:52Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:21:53And then, yeah, Trent just like, knocks it over.
- 1:21:55He's like, oops, I'm sorry. And then he starts like blasting
- 1:21:58all their shit like he's like, my name's Trent, this is Maddox.
- 1:22:01Our parents were guy in Prisca. They sent us to the beach.
- 1:22:05All this is going on and on. Meanwhile, the cop has called in
- 1:22:07reinforcements. Everybody's arrested and Maddox
- 1:22:11and Trent take a helicopter to. Safety.
- 1:22:14But before that, while they were there and after he knocked over
- 1:22:17the drinks, Idlib walks out and notices Trent.
- 1:22:20And then he walks over there and he's like, hey, thanks for the
- 1:22:24note. And like, he shows them the
- 1:22:25note. And then I I just like the nod
- 1:22:29that Antelope gives him. He's just like, it's like a
- 1:22:31respect, you know? He's like, yeah, respect, which
- 1:22:33is like. Impressive because this kid has
- 1:22:35the tiniest. Neck in the world.
- 1:22:36Can you imagine if trans like all right, come on, let's go get
- 1:22:38that mortgage. Come on.
- 1:22:40Buddy like he I I can cosign. For you.
- 1:22:42Honestly, I could see him adopting this kid.
- 1:22:45He would probably do it because, like, that kid isn't loved.
- 1:22:49The manager is his dad, I guess. I don't know.
- 1:22:52His uncle. Yeah.
- 1:22:53He he should adopt Antelope. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:56But be his little kid Live. Ah, kid live.
- 1:23:02OK, so that's the end of the movie.
- 1:23:04That's the end. Yeah.
- 1:23:05There's no after credits. There's nothing.
- 1:23:06Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:23:09I like this movie. I think it, I mean, it's not
- 1:23:12that it's perfect, but I think it's an enjoyable movie.
- 1:23:16And I think sometimes you just have to not think too hard about
- 1:23:19movies and have fun with them. And this offers a lot of other
- 1:23:23things to think about. You know, you're not meant to
- 1:23:25think about the time travel of it all.
- 1:23:28You're meant to think about like what are our most primal fears?
- 1:23:32What are the things that are most important to us?
- 1:23:34What's ethics in the medicinal world?
- 1:23:38Because, you know, these are life saving drugs, but obviously
- 1:23:41this isn't OK. But what's worth it?
- 1:23:43And you know, I think it, I think it's got a lot to say and
- 1:23:46I'm going to keep it at an 8. OK, I'm going to keep in mind
- 1:23:50that six, like I I enjoy this movie.
- 1:23:53It's a fun watch. You know, I'll watch it again
- 1:23:55with you in the future. It's just if I were to have a
- 1:23:59change, it's just so it I don't have a problem with the premise
- 1:24:04and I don't have a problem with the execution of the premise.
- 1:24:07But with this right here, you either go full blast over the
- 1:24:13top like nonsense B movie type shit, or you like go deep with
- 1:24:21it and you like do a deep dive exploration on some of this
- 1:24:23shit. And in that style with that
- 1:24:26stuff is a middle ground. Yeah, he wants to explain too
- 1:24:29much. He wants to explain too much,
- 1:24:30but he wants to have the hokiness of all of that stuff,
- 1:24:33too. And I love his stuff for that.
- 1:24:35I like his movies. That's why I enjoy them.
- 1:24:37But if this, if I wanted this to be a better movie from somebody,
- 1:24:42I would want you to pick Elaine, OK.
- 1:24:44Yeah. And I could take any one of
- 1:24:46those movies. Like I could take the serious
- 1:24:48version. I think that that would be fun.
- 1:24:50I could take the, like, dumb playful version.
- 1:24:53And I think that could be fun too.
- 1:24:54And I think in that version it's fun.
- 1:24:56But, you know, it's a six. OK, Yeah.
- 1:25:00OK. All right, what did Talia think
- 1:25:02of it? Well, at first she threw a mini
- 1:25:05tantrum because she knew that this was going to be a dog dying
- 1:25:09movie and she threw her gets around.
- 1:25:11That's fair. But she did watch the surgery
- 1:25:13scene. She was very curious.
- 1:25:16She knows that I've been through several surgeries and she's
- 1:25:19like, oh shit, mommy, I didn't know that you've this is what
- 1:25:22happens. It's.
- 1:25:23Like shit, people heal that fast.
- 1:25:24I had to have like a patch on my butt.
- 1:25:26It's like. Yeah, I had fentanyl patches and
- 1:25:28I had to wear a cone and you guys wouldn't let me sleep on
- 1:25:30the bed for two. Weeks.
- 1:25:31Yeah. And Daddy had to stay home with
- 1:25:32me for a month. Yeah.
- 1:25:33Yeah, and and you, mommy, like you were on crutches for six
- 1:25:37months. Yeah, it's like.
- 1:25:38Like, why don't we just go to this beach?
- 1:25:40Yeah, let's go to this beach. So she thought that was really
- 1:25:43interesting. So I think that she would give
- 1:25:47this a solid 7, but we're gonna subtract a point for dog death.
- 1:25:51Yeah. Automatic point deduction for
- 1:25:52dog death. So it's a six.
- 1:25:54Yes, I agree. This is an interesting one.
- 1:25:57Who is Zoe's ultimate warrior? OK.
- 1:26:00That is a tough one. You know what?
- 1:26:02What? I think it's Kara.
- 1:26:04I was gonna say Kara cuz she climbed her way.
- 1:26:06Out. Yeah.
- 1:26:07She climbed her way out and that's the best thing.
- 1:26:09Also the way she just, like, noshes the food, yeah.
- 1:26:12Exactly, Yeah. It's totally cared.
- 1:26:15The Ultimate Warrior isn't always a killer or a heroine.
- 1:26:18Sometimes it's just somebody who likes to climb and eat.
- 1:26:20Somebody. Sometimes it's somebody that
- 1:26:22does like heroic shit. Climbing and eating is heroic.
- 1:26:26And Zoe's. Eyes absolutely OK, new tagline.
- 1:26:33What was it that we were saying? Oh damn.
- 1:26:36Oh damn. Beach make old.
- 1:26:39That'd be keeping in line with our.
- 1:26:42It came. Scary.
- 1:26:43Although I fucked that up, I mean it.
- 1:26:45Came creepy creepy yeah I just remember texting you and I was
- 1:26:49like hey, So what was wrong with the the thing we came up with
- 1:26:52and you're like I forgot it yeah on the art I.
- 1:26:56Just like I thought I had it, I typed.
- 1:26:58I don't know why I typed creepy, but I did.
- 1:27:00So yeah, that's why that's the tagline for the dissent.
- 1:27:03But. Each make old.
- 1:27:06Are we gonna descend with all of our tag lines?
- 1:27:09It's just gonna get shitty, like the longer we do this, yeah.
- 1:27:13We're just not gonna get any effort put into it.
- 1:27:17I feel like you could do something
- 1:27:29with The Sands of Time. The sands of time are always
- 1:27:35shifting. Mr. Sandman made me a sand.
- 1:27:42No. Make him the cutest man
- 1:27:46cardboard. Boy band.
- 1:27:51Oh God damn it. Enter Sandman.
- 1:28:08This sand OK help me with this. Something like this sand of time
- 1:28:14is coarse. What?
- 1:28:19That's why I need help. It's rough.
- 1:28:24Bro, your sand timer's fucked up.
- 1:28:29Yo you need to fix this hourglass man.
- 1:28:33Why are your hourglass so funny? Yeah.
- 1:28:39Tale is oldest time. I thought about that, but it
- 1:28:43doesn't fit. Time's a bitch.
- 1:28:48An untimely story. I like that.
- 1:28:53An untimely story. OK that's the most legit one I
- 1:29:01could think of without it being stupid.
- 1:29:04OK, I feel like your hourglass is fucked up, but we can go.
- 1:29:08I like that too, actually. Your hourglass is fucked up,
- 1:29:14man. That's tough.
- 1:29:15Let's think about that. Oh, man.
- 1:29:18OK, so we're gonna leave it at those two and I will send them
- 1:29:21to you, OK? When you're doing the art and
- 1:29:23you decide what feels right in the moment.
- 1:29:25Yeah, I might. I might leave this up to Talia.
- 1:29:27I'll like hold on my hand, like, All right.
- 1:29:29Which one? You're gonna be an untimely
- 1:29:31story or bro, your hourglass is fucked up.
- 1:29:33Yeah, OK. Who'd you relate to?
- 1:29:40Oh yeah? Well I I relate to mid sized
- 1:29:55sedan for like having the old dam be like the default go to
- 1:29:59response to anything happening. Oh damn.
- 1:30:03Yeah, honestly, though, I do think I, I relate to him too
- 1:30:06because I'm very much I, I make jokes as a coping mechanism and
- 1:30:13he, he has a sense of humor throughout all of this.
- 1:30:18Yeah, he does, yeah. So I I think I probably relate
- 1:30:21to him too. Yeah, we needed a funny guy that
- 1:30:24he was a funny guy. He he, he was like a deadpan
- 1:30:27funny guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:29OK, OK, so reviews. Reviews.
- 1:30:33All right. What you got for us, OK.
- 1:30:37Boom boom boom. Did you get one negative?
- 1:30:40Did you know that I was on the good side of this movie?
- 1:30:42Yeah, I knew that. We were both pretty positive on
- 1:30:45it, 'cause I remember you were like, okay, well, it's not as
- 1:30:47stupid as I thought it was gonna be.
- 1:30:48So it was like, all right, it's gonna be higher than A5.
- 1:30:53OK, so this is this is a critic review because remember you
- 1:30:56saying you wanted to do more of. That Oh yeah.
- 1:30:58OK. So this is by James Bernardelli.
- 1:31:01James Bernardinelli of Real Views, and he gave it a two out
- 1:31:06of four. OK, this film lacks any of
- 1:31:11Shyamalan's trademark twists. Once it's understood that rapid
- 1:31:14age aging is occurring, the movie doesn't have many
- 1:31:17surprises. The editing is uneven and making
- 1:31:19one wonder whether there was originally a much longer cut.
- 1:31:22That cut trimmed down during post production.
- 1:31:24Character development is largely ineffective, with most of the
- 1:31:26people acting in odd, irrational ways to satisfy plot needs.
- 1:31:30Contrivances and coincidences abound.
- 1:31:33The biggest victim of this is Charles, although his entire
- 1:31:35family is poorly served. Because this is supposed to be a
- 1:31:38horror film, a few requisite grizzly sequences are included,
- 1:31:41although none of them borders on.
- 1:31:43Although one of them borders on horror slash comedy.
- 1:31:45The PG13 rating noticeably hamstring Shyamalan, who employs
- 1:31:48distracting camera tricks to avoid showing nipples or too
- 1:31:51much blood. Plot holes are bound, many of
- 1:31:55which don't require a post screening reflection to
- 1:31:57identify. The movie doesn't make a lot of
- 1:32:00sense, and it doesn't help that the dialogue is poorly written
- 1:32:02and clumsily delivered. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:07I mean, it does have some clumsy dialogue and a lot of it doesn't
- 1:32:10make sense, but I don't think it really needs to because like
- 1:32:13we're, we're there with them and they're trying to make sense of
- 1:32:16it all. And how do you make sense of
- 1:32:18that without having any of the information yeah, given to you?
- 1:32:23Yeah, I think because we're kind of on this journey with the
- 1:32:25characters, at the same time they're trying to make sense of
- 1:32:27what is happening. Yeah.
- 1:32:29Like, yeah, I think kind of like what you were saying, like this
- 1:32:31person wanted like a good explanation for what was
- 1:32:33happening. Yeah.
- 1:32:34And like, I mean, you're, I mean, we get one and there is a
- 1:32:37twist. The twist was.
- 1:32:38Beach make old. Yeah, Oh no, the twist was it
- 1:32:41was the. Company.
- 1:32:42Oh, the company, yeah. Come on man, what do you think?
- 1:32:45What did you think the twist was?
- 1:32:47Beach make old. No, the movie is so upfront
- 1:32:50about that. That's the premise.
- 1:32:53It was a twist on a normal beach vacation.
- 1:32:56Sure, yeah. But no, that's I thought that
- 1:32:59that was like the Shyamalan twist, like, oh, it was for a
- 1:33:02research the entire time. Yeah, I thought that that was
- 1:33:07interesting and I like that he took one of those theories from
- 1:33:11the graphic novel and made it like his final ending with it.
- 1:33:14Yeah. I mean, but like, I don't like,
- 1:33:16I think that that's a good explanation and I don't think it
- 1:33:21needs to be really explained more than that.
- 1:33:23I think that it's totally fine to be left at that.
- 1:33:26Well, and even the pharmaceutical company
- 1:33:27themselves didn't really understand why the beach work
- 1:33:29the way it does. They're like, we don't know, but
- 1:33:31clearly nature wants us to do this incredibly, really
- 1:33:33unethical experiment. Yeah, it's whatever.
- 1:33:36Yeah. And yeah, it's it's clunky in
- 1:33:39pieces. Also, I feel like there are
- 1:33:41probably people that would volunteer to be part of this
- 1:33:43medical trial and go out to the beach for like an hour.
- 1:33:47Let's see if this if this medicine is viable for a year,
- 1:33:51you know what I mean? Like some people might.
- 1:33:52That's a That's a tough thing. To It's a tough thing, but I bet
- 1:33:56there are people out there that would consent to like a year.
- 1:33:58Maybe, yeah. So I don't.
- 1:34:01Know the only thing is that you can't get out in a year.
- 1:34:04You're like, there's only one way out.
- 1:34:06That's swimming through the coral reef.
- 1:34:09They're a pharmaceutical company, I bet they could find a
- 1:34:10way to make that easy enough for people.
- 1:34:12I suppose so, yeah. But you know, I get it.
- 1:34:15Like this. Yeah, this movie has its
- 1:34:17shortcomings, and I can very much see it being like, does
- 1:34:20this work for you? It might not work for you.
- 1:34:23Yeah, it's definitely one of those.
- 1:34:25It depends on what you personally want from a film.
- 1:34:28Yeah, exactly. And so it's gonna be entirely
- 1:34:30based up to user experiment experience.
- 1:34:33I'm fine with the schlocky sci-fi.
- 1:34:35This doesn't really fucking make sense, but it's OK.
- 1:34:37Don't think about it too much, just have fun.
- 1:34:39That's where I'm at too. Yeah, that stuff is totally fine
- 1:34:41with me. OK, so let's let's go over and
- 1:34:45check out some listener reviews. All.
- 1:34:48Right, all right, so all of our reviews are from Twitter today.
- 1:34:53OK, so and I'm sorry if I'm missing, we missed a lot of
- 1:34:57reviews for the but it was because they came in after we
- 1:35:00recorded so it wasn't me intentionally leaving you guys
- 1:35:02off if you. Guys are ever left off.
- 1:35:05It's because they came in after our recording.
- 1:35:09Yeah. So yeah, I apologize for that,
- 1:35:11but I got these guys here that have chimed in with their
- 1:35:17thoughts. OK, so First off, let's start
- 1:35:20with Ward Zombie, who says I have a fond memory of this as it
- 1:35:24was a birthday release. Those were great.
- 1:35:26Yeah, that was the trap was my birthday release this year, Yes.
- 1:35:29Exactly. The characters were odd, the
- 1:35:31acting was not great, and there were some plots that made no
- 1:35:34sense. How did the kids adjust to their
- 1:35:36new body so fast? The overall idea was cool and
- 1:35:38just not executed well. And yeah, I feel like that's
- 1:35:41like most people's sentiment towards this movie, and I
- 1:35:46absolutely understand what that take right there.
- 1:35:50Here's one thing that I just thought of.
- 1:35:53I agreed with the acting too. Like shouldn't they need to pee
- 1:35:58and poop a lot more often than they are?
- 1:36:00Oh my God yes. But here's another thing.
- 1:36:07None of them are eating the entire time.
- 1:36:09They're aging decades without taking a bite.
- 1:36:15That's the thing. That's another thing about this
- 1:36:17movie is like, you have it straight up makes you like, if
- 1:36:22you ever want to take this movie anyway seriously, you have to
- 1:36:25turn your brain off. Yeah, because there's just too
- 1:36:27many things that just don't make sense to me think about.
- 1:36:30It. And that's the approach I take
- 1:36:32with basically all time travel movies.
- 1:36:33You're going to find potholes everywhere.
- 1:36:36Yeah. Just fucking have fun with it.
- 1:36:39Yeah. And it hurts my brain to think
- 1:36:42about it too much. One time we got into a
- 1:36:43discussion about daylight savings at work, and it lasted
- 1:36:48for like 20 minutes. And by the end, I was like, we
- 1:36:50need to talk about something else because I'm going to start
- 1:36:52crying. I can't hit this conversation
- 1:36:54anymore. All right, so yeah, thank you,
- 1:36:59Ward Zombie, you are right on there with the Aquila boobs.
- 1:37:04MC Aquila boobs says yeah, they're no longer sire.
- 1:37:09Yeah, not great, but not terrible.
- 1:37:11It was all right, The concept was neat, and the ending was
- 1:37:14quite fucked, honestly. It's definitely something these
- 1:37:16huge corporations would do if they could.
- 1:37:18Absolutely. Yeah, that's.
- 1:37:19True. That's another like, horror
- 1:37:21aspect of this is like, yeah, a corporation would absolutely
- 1:37:24exploit you to this degree. And I think it's telling that
- 1:37:27neither of us question like why is the pharmaceutical company
- 1:37:30we're just like, no, it wouldn't really get peer.
- 1:37:31Reviewed. Yeah, go into like the boring
- 1:37:34details of it all. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, No, that seems
- 1:37:38to be like another common thing right there is like, yeah,
- 1:37:41everybody, I think everybody agrees it's a cool idea.
- 1:37:43It's a cool concept. Getting old on the beach.
- 1:37:46But yeah, execution is kind of like.
- 1:37:48That's not what I meant when I said I wanted to spend the rest
- 1:37:51of my life on the beach. Tyler says.
- 1:37:54Didn't hate this as much as everyone tends to, but there
- 1:37:57were issues. It was cool to see Alex Wolf and
- 1:38:00Abby Lee again as I enjoy them in past projects.
- 1:38:03I agree, it's nice seeing Alex Wolf after Hereditary.
- 1:38:06Yeah, I'd like that. He's kind of he's gone the
- 1:38:09Nickelodeon to horror pipeline. Yeah, it's fun.
- 1:38:12I feel like we're not seeing him in enough things.
- 1:38:14And I feel like Abby, I mean, Lee has just popped up in a lot
- 1:38:16of things for us recently. Yeah, it seems that way cuz.
- 1:38:18We just watched Fury Rd. not too long ago.
- 1:38:21I was like, oh shit, you were like, that's the girl from Neon
- 1:38:24Demon. And both of them turned out
- 1:38:27pretty great performances. That cave scene haunts me.
- 1:38:31It had clever moments. I enjoyed a 5 out of 10.
- 1:38:34OK, Yeah. That's pretty.
- 1:38:35That's pretty good right there. Yeah.
- 1:38:37I, I generally agree. I think I liked it a little bit
- 1:38:41more than a 5 out of 10, but you're spot on with the things
- 1:38:44that you're saying. I I agree with that review.
- 1:38:46And finally, we have Kevy Kev who says so much potential that
- 1:38:50was never realized. Well, Kevin, I could say the
- 1:38:54same thing about my life, and I'm still doing my best to live
- 1:38:57it, aren't I? I mean, yeah, like that's, that
- 1:39:02seems to be the most common thing that I see from this,
- 1:39:04Yeah. But honestly though, like I
- 1:39:08didn't have any expectations from this movie other than I
- 1:39:10wonder why they're getting old on the beach and it's just beach
- 1:39:14makes old and I'm fine with that.
- 1:39:15I like the story that we got from it.
- 1:39:17Yeah, I thought, I thought we were going to get like a deeper
- 1:39:19explanation the first watch, but yeah, no, like it's whatever.
- 1:39:22And I kind of am curious what other people's expectations were
- 1:39:26for the story, because especially like reading the
- 1:39:28graphic novel, it sounds like it really didn't have.
- 1:39:31Yeah, it was just ambiguous. Yeah, It was more about like the
- 1:39:34interpersonal drama and like, reckoning with, like life
- 1:39:38passing you by. Like it doesn't seem like it was
- 1:39:40really about. Like, why is the beach doing
- 1:39:41that? Which, yeah, that's interesting.
- 1:39:43And I feel like they kind of tried to do that with this, but
- 1:39:46again, and I took the path of like, let's explore a little bit
- 1:39:49of that, but let's explore a little bit of like, why this is
- 1:39:52happening. Yeah.
- 1:39:53Yeah. So that's why you get here.
- 1:39:55You get a little mishmash of Shyamalan.
- 1:39:58Yeah. That's why they call them
- 1:39:59Mashamalan. OK?
- 1:40:01That's what they call them, I've heard.
- 1:40:04Did you hear it from yourself? Yes.
- 1:40:06Yeah, OK, that's it for the episode everybody for.
- 1:40:10The episode next week we are going to be talking is our
- 1:40:14Patreon voted episode and we gave them two weird options to
- 1:40:19choose from and they went with the dentist.
- 1:40:22Yeah, yeah, we get Brian Yasno on this piece again.
- 1:40:25Yeah. So that's a weird one.
- 1:40:28It's upsetting, but like, in the way you want a horror movie to
- 1:40:30be. So I'm not gonna read where
- 1:40:33that's at currently because it's the last day of August.
- 1:40:36Generally it's an accessible movie.
- 1:40:39I've I tend to notice that on the free streaming services, the
- 1:40:42tubies and the Pluto is pretty often.
- 1:40:44Yeah, so just be on the lookout on our social media.
- 1:40:48I'll post the where to watch this weekend, OK?
