- 0:39Yep, episode 10 episode. 10. We've got one O.
- 0:42Yeah, we've got Colt Mccurt Mcmurdy on here.
- 0:45Yes, Sir, Glad to be here. Glad to be here.
- 0:48Thanks for coming. Looking good man.
- 0:50Appreciate it man. What's that's all due to cowboy
- 0:53hardware Cowboy. Hardware.
- 0:54Big shout out there. They sponsor me, yeah.
- 0:56Very cool, very cool. Do they send you a lot of
- 0:58clothes, a lot or what? Yeah, I'm, that's actually one
- 1:01of my Grant Gomez and Ransom Gomez.
- 1:03They get some good friends of mine.
- 1:04I've known them. I teamed up with them all the
- 1:06time. So once I got into the music
- 1:07deal, actually, Ransom was pushing me for a long time to
- 1:10get to do this, for longer than I even was thinking about it,
- 1:13really. Yeah.
- 1:14As soon as I did they he was all on board, the sponsor and
- 1:17everything. So yeah.
- 1:18Heck yeah. So you are born and raised
- 1:21Arizona. Yeah, I'm 6th generation from
- 1:23Arizona. 6th generation, yeah. Where?
- 1:25Where? 'D you grow up at.
- 1:26I grew up, you know, through middle school I was over off in
- 1:29the North Valley and then right before high school we moved out
- 1:32here to Whitman, not too far from you guys down the road,
- 1:36went to Wickenburg High School and then went to finished out in
- 1:39a prep school over in surprise. OK, yeah, nice.
- 1:42Yep, Yep. And obviously you're a Roper.
- 1:46Yeah, I team rope. Still team rope.
- 1:49Yeah, Yeah. So.
- 1:50And that was a kicker, you know. So I where do you want to start,
- 1:56you know? This is your show.
- 1:58There's a lot to hold here. Yeah, I just, I just want to
- 2:02address the elephant in the room.
- 2:03Yeah, OK, Your mustache, dude. Yeah, What's going on?
- 2:07It looks good, bro. I appreciate it.
- 2:08Looks good. I like it.
- 2:09I. Appreciate it.
- 2:10You do not think that's where he was going with him in?
- 2:12The. Room, I feel like, I feel like
- 2:15the mustache is where it's at. It's coming back, man.
- 2:17They're all coming back if I. Could do it if I wish I could do
- 2:19it but I got a double chin coming so I don't want to be a
- 2:23part of a Chinese phone book my. Dad says I'm in training my dad.
- 2:26My dad's got the full fireman statue so he he likes to make
- 2:30fun of me. So you guys are firefighter?
- 2:31Yeah, he's on. He's on SWAT team and he goes
- 2:33fired and yeah, for Glendale. Oh wow.
- 2:36Very cool. Nice, nice.
- 2:37I know some. So my dad was a firefighter as
- 2:40well, and then my brother's a firefighter too.
- 2:43OK, right on. So they work for.
- 2:46I don't know if I can see. See.
- 2:47Yeah, Peoria. Yeah, Peoria.
- 2:50And then my dad also worked for Sun City West.
- 2:53OK, right now. So he's retired though.
- 2:55Yeah, my dad's, yeah, my dad's been on Glendale for 23 years,
- 2:5824 years, something like that. Nice.
- 3:00And they had a, they opened up a swap position for medics.
- 3:04Oh, wow. Like 4 years ago or five years
- 3:06ago? He's been on, he's been doing
- 3:07that for the last three or four years and he's all, he's all
- 3:10done. Oh man, He, he went from
- 3:12carrying again to carrying three, you know.
- 3:13Yeah, he's all tactical. Down he's but he loves it, man
- 3:17he. Doesn't like go to like
- 3:18buildings, But hold on, hold on, son.
- 3:19Yeah, let. Me, see what we got here.
- 3:21Yeah, let me just go about to see what's going on here.
- 3:24That's awesome. Yeah.
- 3:26So other elephant in the room. I'm in a wheelchair.
- 3:28There you go. I'll throw that one out there
- 3:29for everybody that's listening. Yeah.
- 3:32I got paralyzed when I was 17 years old.
- 3:37It was three months before the end of my junior year high
- 3:39school. So I was, I was actually, I was
- 3:41right, right here off 211th on not on Patton, but 211th off of
- 3:4574. OK, right in front of the old
- 3:47proving grounds, right to the Toyota proving grounds.
- 3:50And I rolled a Toyota 4 runner. I was doing like 110 miles an
- 3:53hour in the Toyota 4. I had all 95 or 97.5 speed.
- 3:58I blew a back lift tire. And so my my the butt end of my
- 4:01car. I don't know if you sorry.
- 4:02Yeah, but the butt end of my car kind of slid out a little bit.
- 4:05And I mean, I know not to pump my brakes or anything or turn or
- 4:09anything. Just try and ride it out when
- 4:10you get a flat like that. But I pulled my front in just a
- 4:14little bit just trying to keep it straight, man.
- 4:15And I remember my side, my side window just smack in the ground.
- 4:19And then I went black. But I can kind of remember just
- 4:21like it felt like I was in a barrel, just kind of like thrown
- 4:24out of a plane, like I could just remember being thrown
- 4:25around. My buddy Keegan Lindsay was
- 4:27right behind me and he, he watched me fly out the front
- 4:30windshield in the 2nd row. My car hit sideways and then
- 4:32went end over end on the front windshield.
- 4:35And I woke up on the ground like 30 seconds later and I sat up.
- 4:40I remember trying to move my legs and they didn't move it in.
- 4:42So I was like, man, my back's broke for sure.
- 4:44So I just laid back down, you know, I just tried to be still.
- 4:47And he was, he was away on the distance, yell my name because
- 4:50he couldn't find where I'd landed.
- 4:52OK, my car, my car rolled like 14 times.
- 4:55You went like in the desert. Yeah, he said.
- 4:56I hit like, well, no, I was on the hip of the road when my car
- 4:59went clear to the desert. So he didn't see and he pulled
- 5:02off because he didn't want to hit me, you know, he didn't know
- 5:04if I'd where I'd landed that and he just drove in where my, where
- 5:07my car was at and he couldn't. Yeah.
- 5:10Anyhow, I whistled loud one time.
- 5:12I can whistle pretty loud. And I whistled loud one time.
- 5:14He'd come, you know, running over and got there and he kind
- 5:18of, you know, froze up, you know, a little bit, you know,
- 5:21what do you do? And so I was like, call 911,
- 5:23man. And and then he called my mom
- 5:26right after that. And she got there before the
- 5:29fire department, did she? She probably did $1.20 down the
- 5:32road. And yeah, I mean, it was a whole
- 5:35ordeal and she was there to hold my head and I was just
- 5:38apologizing for not wearing a seat belt.
- 5:40She's just not worried about that right now, you know?
- 5:43Well. It sounds like if you were to
- 5:44wear your seat belt you would have been wearing a car.
- 5:46Is that? Yeah, for sure.
- 5:48And at the time my dad was a flight medic and so he was, I
- 5:54think he just gotten off work or whatever, but the native, native
- 5:59self launched and self landed. They did some kind of believable
- 6:02things, but it was whatever. I think it inevitably ended up
- 6:04saving my life, you know, just the quickness and to everything.
- 6:08But yeah, they fight. They well, actually before that
- 6:14I didn't feel hardly any pain, you know, and my leg, my leg was
- 6:18wide open, like, I mean, from my ankle all the way backside of my
- 6:20knee when I was on the ground. And I mean, that was like falls
- 6:22are well, you know, and but when the when the fire department got
- 6:28there, this guy, this guy. Walked into me and he's like
- 6:30cold. He said this is going to hurt
- 6:32like hell. And I hadn't felt really any
- 6:34pain. I was in shock, you know, still.
- 6:36And he pulled out a Craftsman drill with a like a drill wood
- 6:40tail on it. Hit that right into my shoulder.
- 6:42They did a bone tap on me. And I mean, oh, like that was
- 6:46the most like just feeling your bone, you know, just going
- 6:51through because your bones have more blood.
- 6:52I mean, I'm sure you guys kind of know about that medically,
- 6:55but feels you don't know, you know, there's your bones have
- 6:58like way more blood flow than any part of your body.
- 7:00So I can ward and stuff like that.
- 7:01I mean, they'll just hit you with a bone tap and they can hit
- 7:03you with drugs like right, right away, you know, and I mean, once
- 7:07he hit me with that and shove those into me, I was like, you
- 7:09know, that was when I started. And then I when I finally like
- 7:11went all the way out. So they did.
- 7:13I was in the helicopter, remember the helicopter taking
- 7:15off and then they flew me. They tried flying me to John C
- 7:19Lincoln and my dad, my dad got into with a couple cops and
- 7:25actually ended up getting into the back of the dispatch
- 7:27officer's car. And he said you reroute my son
- 7:30to PCH and or I mean, it's you're gonna have a big problem
- 7:34on your hands. And they they said we're already
- 7:36in in route to Johnson Lincoln. And he said I don't, I don't, I
- 7:41don't care where you're in route to.
- 7:42He said, I legally can tell you where you fly and you're flying
- 7:45to PCH. So and PCH is just there, top of
- 7:49the line. Yeah, I mean, I was a six foot
- 7:514/17. Year old going in the VCH.
- 7:54So when I was in there, they had to find, they had to bring in
- 7:56another bed, you know, But yeah. Anyhow, they took me there.
- 8:01I was in, I was in ICU for a week and a half and a medically,
- 8:07you know, induced coma and, and then I was overall, I was in the
- 8:12hospital for I think 4, three and a half, four months,
- 8:14something like that. And yeah, I mean for the first
- 8:19while I was in there. So they put All in all, I tore
- 8:23my aorta in two places. So they put 2 aortic stents in.
- 8:25Oh damn, I broke my back T12. So they fused my new spine 2
- 8:29above, 2 below, so 5 vertebrae all together.
- 8:35And then I, I opened my leg wide open and it was, it was luckily
- 8:42it was kind of crazy. I mean, I can show you as a
- 8:44picture. I don't know if it, if it helps
- 8:45the podcast at all, but yeah, the what else I do, I puncture,
- 8:51I claps both my lungs. So I had five chest tubes and
- 8:56then just a whole bunch of stuff.
- 8:59I can't remember what else but I shattered my scapula.
- 9:03How far? How far do you?
- 9:05Do you know that obviously you got ejected out of the?
- 9:07I was, how far was I was probably 60.
- 9:11I was probably 20 yards, 60 feet.
- 9:13I I don't know, to be honest with you, because I I was once I
- 9:17was on the ground, I was, you know, yeah, pretty
- 9:18incapacitated. But and then so for the first
- 9:24good while I was in the hospital, I couldn't feel
- 9:26nothing from the waist down. And we were actually rolling
- 9:30through the hallway one time. And my dad.
- 9:33Holy. Shit.
- 9:36My yeah, that it's pretty gnarly.
- 9:38Like dude, it looks like you got attacked by a shark.
- 9:40Dude, I tell people that just depends on what we're doing, but
- 9:44yeah. That looks like a $50 steak at
- 9:46Costco. Hey, I do little salt and
- 9:48pepper. 5 minutes. This is 5 minutes aside.
- 9:50On the grill and down the Hatch. Did you all see that?
- 9:54I don't know if they wanted to. But.
- 9:57But yeah, so that. Yeah, we were in there.
- 10:00But anyhow, one, one of those days my, I had 9, so I had 9
- 10:03surgeries on this left leg and they did, you know, cosmetic
- 10:06surgery or whatever, the plastic surgery, you know, I mean,
- 10:09probably for what it looked like, for what it looks like
- 10:12now, it looks amazing. You know, I, I'm, it's amazing
- 10:14naughty Scar, don't get me wrong, but my dad was pushing me
- 10:18down the hallway one time and he actually slammed my feet in the
- 10:21wall and I was like, ow. And he's like, what?
- 10:23Did you say he slammed my legs in the wall again?
- 10:26No, he just kept slamming him over and over again.
- 10:28I was like, I was like, I feel it.
- 10:31Yeah, you could quit. And anyhow, so then from there
- 10:34just a long road of therapy and, and get so I, I feel everything
- 10:39down in my toes. I can't, I can't move anything
- 10:41from the knee down. So I got no control my feet or
- 10:43anything. Like if you see my feet like
- 10:45moving, it's they just move on their own.
- 10:46Sometimes they get sometimes, yeah, they did all these.
- 10:48Sometimes they'll just sit there and bounce and whatever.
- 10:51But didn't like they tried trying to, they tried to put
- 10:55like Botox and back to my calves to make that stop.
- 10:58And I'm like, I mean, is the movement hurting anything?
- 11:00They're like, no, my wool. And it's only helping your
- 11:03stuff. Like, yeah, you know what I
- 11:03mean? It's helping your circulation.
- 11:05It's helping everything. So let's not kill anything more
- 11:07than what I've already lost. Like obviously the point of that
- 11:10is anyhow, yeah. So A-Team wrote before that and
- 11:18you know, once I, once I got in the car accident, it was my
- 11:23family. My family is a huge support, you
- 11:26know, and I, I had a, as far as you want to say, picture perfect
- 11:30childhood. I mean, I had great parents.
- 11:32I had, I have a great, I just have a great support system, you
- 11:34know what I mean? And I, I, that's a blessing.
- 11:36And I know that and not everybody has that, you know,
- 11:38And I, it's super, that's something I hold close to me.
- 11:41And I some those are people that I really look up to and I try,
- 11:44try to try to live like, you know, but without them, I this
- 11:47wouldn't, I don't think this would have gone the way that it
- 11:49went, you know, and I think that I sure I'm strong enough to go
- 11:52through this, this adversity and stuff like that.
- 11:54But I think at the same time, it's damn sure it takes people,
- 11:58you know what I mean? Yeah, it takes, you know what I
- 12:00mean? And so, you know, my parents
- 12:05told me like, you know, we could take care of you and, and, and
- 12:09you could, the way I heard it was you could be a vegetable in
- 12:12our house the rest of your life. And that's our job as parents to
- 12:14take care of you. But there's no reason that you
- 12:17can't do everything you used to do just a little different, you
- 12:20know, And so it was like that day I was like, we called Corky
- 12:23iron over at dynamite horse supply.
- 12:25And I was, I was like, dude, I'm sending you a saddle like
- 12:28figure, whatever you think you need to put on there for me to
- 12:30build a rope and ride again, like get it done and like, and
- 12:34that it was waiting for me. You know, my grandpa sent it
- 12:36over there and that was waiting for us.
- 12:37When, when you know, actually, you know, my grandpa sent that
- 12:41over there before I even before I even made that decision,
- 12:44actually, my grandpa, I forgot about that.
- 12:45My grandpa sent it over there and it was already done.
- 12:48So yeah. And so like, my grandpa was
- 12:49like, he's like, I knew, like he's the guy.
- 12:51I knew you'd get back to it, you know, whatever.
- 12:53Roper at the core, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 12:55What's that? Roper at the core, right, you
- 12:57weren't. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no,
- 12:59yeah. And so he, yeah, it was pretty
- 13:01cool, but. And so that was already done,
- 13:03rigged out when I got out of the hospital and yeah, and it took,
- 13:10I mean, it was frustrating like it was.
- 13:14And things like, not to my horn or anything, but like, things
- 13:17don't come hard for me. Like I've always been just like
- 13:19one of those. And I never like push things to
- 13:21like as best as I could be, but I just always would be like
- 13:23naturally good at something. Sure.
- 13:25And then I just coast on that, you know what I mean?
- 13:27And I just, I never had to try very hard at things.
- 13:29Like I did my piss my brother off, like absolutely drove him
- 13:32off the wall 'cause he puts like a lot of time and effort and
- 13:34things that he like does and like likes to do.
- 13:37But yeah, so but roping was never one of those things like
- 13:41I've been, I mean, I've had a rope in my hand since I was 2
- 13:43years old. I've since I can remember, you
- 13:45know what I mean? I've just roping's been one of
- 13:46those things that my family does and we love to do.
- 13:49So once I, once I got tried to get back to it, you know, it was
- 13:57a long learning process of finding what horse worked and
- 14:03finding how to, you know, keep my horses differently because
- 14:05obviously now horsemanship is all feet.
- 14:09No, no hands, really soft handed.
- 14:11And then you're all in your feet.
- 14:13And now I'm teaching my horses to be blind to my feet, listen
- 14:16just to my hands and my mouth, you know, So it's just a whole
- 14:18different learning. And, and I predominantly headed
- 14:21all growing up and I switched to the heel side just because
- 14:26there's a lot more horsemanship in my opinion than heading, you
- 14:29know what I mean? I don't know how too familiar
- 14:30you guys are with, you know, horsemanship and stuff.
- 14:32I'm sure you guys know, you know, you know enough to, you
- 14:35know, I don't know, I don't know what you guys experience our
- 14:37horse basic. Yeah.
- 14:38So but anyhow, you know, it's it was very much so more on a
- 14:42hillside. You can just kind of keep an
- 14:44animal wide and then let him in. And it's a lot more flat and a
- 14:46lot and a lot, just a lot easier as far as horsemanship goes.
- 14:50So that's why I switched to that.
- 14:52And then it probably took a year and a half before I was like,
- 14:55back to roping again, you know, back to doing it.
- 14:59Like were you, was it like full confidence year and a.
- 15:03Half, I wouldn't say full confidence, but I was, I was
- 15:06confident enough to go compete. Yeah.
- 15:08And actually, you know, it might have been longer than that.
- 15:09I it's hard to remember. It might have been two years,
- 15:11you know, there where I was back to like a competition.
- 15:13Yeah. That's like actually I could
- 15:16tell you what year it was 02022 'cause I won that.
- 15:19I wore this on privilege. I won, I won that.
- 15:21If there's the first buckle, I won.
- 15:23I won two that day. So I was 2022, so 2017.
- 15:26So it was four years, 5, four years after.
- 15:30Right. Yeah, four years after that I
- 15:32that I went back to competition and I just, I just practiced all
- 15:35that time, you know, So, yeah, man, longer than I thought.
- 15:38So four years after that, I was that I went to that I got back
- 15:42on a 'cause I didn't get back on a horse until after, I mean, I
- 15:44was in the hospital for four months and then just getting
- 15:46back to like, you know, being moving around and getting around
- 15:51learning the, the new normal and then and then so, yeah, but so I
- 15:56guess you have four years back to once I competed again.
- 15:59And then it was in that it was, it's, it's still not full
- 16:06confidence. I would say.
- 16:07Like I'm, I'm confident enough to go compete, you know what I
- 16:09mean? Like and, and do stuff like
- 16:10that. I'm, and I'm good enough to, to
- 16:12win, you know what I mean? And it's just, but it's very
- 16:16much so like when I say full confidence, no, like, I mean,
- 16:19it's never, it's never going to be what I, what I used to be
- 16:22able to do on a horse, you know what I mean?
- 16:24But it's, but it's, I mean, it's confident enough that I'm that
- 16:28I'm like that I'm like, I'm pumped to give get on my horse
- 16:32and rope. But I'm I can go getting an
- 16:34arena with other people on. Horses and like you know, you
- 16:37could compete. Yeah, You know, I'm not afraid
- 16:39to do it like I'm. I'm damn sure I can go look
- 16:41someone in the eye and be like, let's go rope, you know, I mean,
- 16:43let's go match or you wanna go enter and, and people look at me
- 16:47and go, yeah, I'm confident to enter with you, you know, and
- 16:49they're like, they're not like, oh, you know, I don't.
- 16:51Want to, I don't know. I want to waste 180 bucks with
- 16:53this guy. You know what I mean?
- 16:55Like people like hell yeah, can you want to eat?
- 16:56And people call, you know, people call me want hey, you
- 16:58want to come heal for me and this and be a heal for me and
- 17:00that? Yeah, I'm down.
- 17:02That's awesome. And so in that sense, yeah, it's
- 17:05cool to be confident enough back to that level of where, you
- 17:07know, buddies would call me to go compete and I'll call buddies
- 17:10to compete, you know? Did you, were you in the process
- 17:14of training your own horses? Cause not a lot of horses
- 17:17probably see wheelchairs. Yeah, the way you get up and
- 17:20stuff. Yeah, so like those of you who
- 17:22see my TikTok, I'm sure some of you guys have seen my you guys
- 17:25have probably seen my TikTok and stuff like that.
- 17:30When I first got the first time I tried getting back on like it
- 17:33like you just said, like it's horses.
- 17:36They're used to guy walking up, stepping their foot in a stirrup
- 17:38and swinging on. So like when I first time I.
- 17:40Tried doing a muscle up onto 1. I mean he took off with me and I
- 17:43hung out. I hung on for a few.
- 17:44Seconds and then I was like, I better just bail.
- 17:46I'm not gonna sing gonna get any better, you know, And then but
- 17:49and then we pinned in between the fans and I got on or
- 17:51whatever. But the horse that I ride now, I
- 17:55was actually living out in Oklahoma and I just, I moved out
- 17:59to Kansas 'cause I had a buddy that I went to Wickenburg High
- 18:02School with. There was a good friend of mine
- 18:03and he, he lived out here in Witman too, actually.
- 18:05But after, after he graduated high school, he had moved back
- 18:09out to Kansas, to Cedarville. And I was working up at NRS.
- 18:13I was shaping hats up here and he called me and he was like,
- 18:15what are you doing? I was like shaping hats right
- 18:17now. And he's like, you want to move
- 18:18out of Kansas? And I was like, why not?
- 18:19You know what, I had nothing timing down.
- 18:21Why not see somewhere different? You know, he said the summers
- 18:23are kind of fun out there. So I'd flown out there and I I
- 18:28liked it. We were all we did was fish and
- 18:29back Rd. and you know whatever down the back roads and.
- 18:33Sauce. Well, yeah, you know, it's I.
- 18:35Mean you go booze cruise back Rd. and shoot stuff and
- 18:38whatever. It's just how it is kind of in
- 18:39the Midwest. But I flew back out here, got my
- 18:42truck and moved out there and I was there for I ended up meeting
- 18:46a girl and. This was after the accident.
- 18:48This is all after the accident. Yeah.
- 18:51I met a girl down in Oklahoma when I was 'cause I was, I was
- 18:53shaping hats down there for, for Joey Lee.
- 18:58He owns Osage Outfitters down there.
- 19:00And you know, like Ree Drummond is, I'm sure she does the
- 19:02Pioneer Woman and all that. So her store was right next to
- 19:05our shop. So I know Ree and I, I actually
- 19:08got to go like to her daughter's wedding like this.
- 19:10I mean, she had a million and a half in flowers.
- 19:11Like it was ridiculous, ridiculous.
- 19:14It was crazy. And she's she's a good lady.
- 19:18Whatever, you know. But I don't know if you heard
- 19:21that movie. Killer is the Flower Moon.
- 19:23Yeah. I shaped all those hats for that
- 19:24movie. No way.
- 19:25Yeah. So I shaved Leonardo's hat.
- 19:27I shaved all those guys hats. Yeah.
- 19:29So I. Was like I'm gonna rewatch it.
- 19:30Yeah, we got we. You're gonna be like watching.
- 19:33For it now, yeah, I. Know who?
- 19:35Did that who? Did that right?
- 19:37That's dope. Yeah, so that that was another
- 19:39cool deal I got to do. But I met a girl down there when
- 19:43I was working down there and we ended up moving in together down
- 19:46in, in Pauska or not. I worked in Pauska.
- 19:48We were over in like Fairfax area down by Scheidler kind of.
- 19:52But yeah, we moved in down there.
- 19:55And then she actually, we're not together anymore, but she
- 19:58actually ended up moving back here with me to Arizona.
- 20:01Cause her dad lived out in Agila.
- 20:02Kind of a small world, you know, but her dad had a place, big
- 20:05place out in Agila. And she's been wanting to move
- 20:07out to Arizona anyway. So I mean, she would have moved
- 20:10out here either way. But you know, it's yeah.
- 20:12So but. But what I was, that's where I
- 20:14was going with that when I was living out there with the horse
- 20:16I'm riding right now. She had borrowed that this mare
- 20:20from our horseshoer at the time and for a barrel race because
- 20:27her horse was lame. And I knew they'd healed on her.
- 20:30She's a cool mare, you know, she's cool Palomino.
- 20:32And I knew that they'd healed on her.
- 20:34So I, I called Trent Tucker and I was like, you know, I do care
- 20:37if I do care if I go heal on that horse in the Fairfax Open
- 20:41Rodeo or the, or what was it the sky took?
- 20:44We were at the sky took open Rodeo and I hadn't sworn a rope
- 20:48in seven months. I, I mean, I just sworn a rope.
- 20:51Sorry, but I hadn't roped in seven months.
- 20:52I hadn't been on a horse in seven months.
- 20:54I, I mean, we drove the dummy here and there, but like, I, I'd
- 20:57just been out there. Focus on what I, you know, I was
- 20:59doing and, you know, and I, and she didn't see that I rode a
- 21:02horse a couple times, but I hadn't roped.
- 21:03Yeah, I was on a horse. I'd go, I'd go, you know, maybe
- 21:06go on a little trailer with my girlfriend.
- 21:08But for the most part, I was like shaping hats and I get
- 21:11home, we don't maybe or fish or whatever.
- 21:15But I mean, I was just work right then and there.
- 21:16So I wasn't roping at all. And but when I called him and
- 21:20asked him if I could go to the sky to go open rodeo, use that
- 21:22horse, he was like, dude, I he's like, I don't care.
- 21:24He's like you just you can use it for a little bit if you want.
- 21:26So like, heck yeah. So I called my buddy Jimmy Rock
- 21:28and he was he was college rodeo and down there in Miami at the
- 21:32time. And I said.
- 21:34I said, hey, let's go, let's go. Enter in the sky to go open
- 21:37rodeo. And he's like, you got a horse?
- 21:39And I was like, yeah, I got a horse to Evan.
- 21:41He's like even reopen us. Like, dude, I'm dialed.
- 21:43Like let's go. I'm dialed in right now.
- 21:45Oh, I'm dialed though. That's all I do is sell me.
- 21:49I'm dialing right now. You know, I got this little
- 21:51marriage she drank, you know, so and we he's like, well, all
- 21:56right, you know, let's go. So I mean, we're I don't know,
- 21:58we're a couple hundred a man in entry fees into this deal and
- 22:02we're riding into the arena. We get drawn in the perf in
- 22:05round one and we're running in the arena and I was like, Hey, I
- 22:09haven't roped in this horse and I've never I haven't roped in
- 22:10seven months. He's like, what the hell, you
- 22:14know, And so I mean, I didn't know if I was going to have to
- 22:18be overrounded and ripping this horse.
- 22:20I don't know what how it was going to work, but I was, you
- 22:22know, whatever, let's do it. Figure it out.
- 22:24Yeah. So and and I backed her in the
- 22:26box. I mean her ears went forward and
- 22:27she just I mean she just saw it as a rock.
- 22:30I was like, I think we're going to be all right.
- 22:31We come out and I I I2 toed on the second hop.
- 22:35Miss my daily like twice, but I I ended up getting it.
- 22:37We won second place and this guy took so I called that guy back
- 22:40and I was like, dude, what do you want for this horse?
- 22:43Like she I mean, obviously. So I'm still working with trying
- 22:46to figure out horses that work right for me with my wheelchair.
- 22:48This now. I mean, this is the first time
- 22:50I've even rode this horse. Yeah, and I mean, she's dialed
- 22:52for me and I'm like, so I try and buy her, you know, and call
- 22:57the guy back and he's, he said he had a guy coming after not
- 23:01too long to buy her flight 20. And he's like, but if it was
- 23:03going to you guys like I'd, I'd give her to you for 10, you
- 23:05know, so and sell her to it for a good deal.
- 23:08She was 11 years old when I bought her.
- 23:09You know, she's I think she's 14 or 15 now.
- 23:12But just just, I couldn't ask for anything better.
- 23:15You know, it's only gone uphill from there.
- 23:17You know, now we're just, we're more In Sync than we've ever
- 23:20been. But anyhow, that's how I got
- 23:23that horse. So did you have to like retrain
- 23:26her on your cues and everything like to an?
- 23:28Extent, but not really. I mean, the only thing that I've
- 23:31really taught, I guess made that horse associate with is when I,
- 23:35you know, kissing out of your know, I mean, I really kind of
- 23:38associated. I'll, I'll, you know, smack her
- 23:39on the butt every once in awhile when I make that sound.
- 23:41Just so she really associates that we need to, you know, we
- 23:43need to get up, we go to work, you know, and so when I do that,
- 23:46she'll grab a gear. I mean she gets after it.
- 23:48And so other than that, she's a little, she's a little shit,
- 23:51though. Every once in a while she'll
- 23:52buck around the pin every time I get on her just one time,
- 23:55nothing crazy, just how she is. She's still standing still.
- 23:59She's never moved a muscle when I've been getting on her back.
- 24:03That's never one time has she taken a step while I've been
- 24:06getting on her back when and she's she's so touchy.
- 24:09I mean, she's as mayor as a mayor, get she?
- 24:11She hates being touched. For the longest time I didn't
- 24:14even shoot her back in 'cause she didn't, you couldn't even
- 24:16touch her back feet really. She was a horse.
- 24:18She was horse that never got shot, you know what I mean?
- 24:20So she's just, and she's got her legs were all cut up, She got
- 24:24her legs caught and barbed by her fence, and she was real
- 24:26little and just got them all split open and everything.
- 24:28But I mean, literally, this horse is so flinchy to
- 24:31everything. She's just reactive to
- 24:33everything. Yeah, but I roll up there to her
- 24:34and she, I mean, just watch her melt and she just drops her
- 24:38head. Just the perfect horse for you.
- 24:39And just lets me get on. And then once I'm on her back,
- 24:42she knows I'm buckled. Then it's back to like, prancing
- 24:45in place and just fire, you know?
- 24:46But I can't ask him. I'd rather ask a horse for less,
- 24:49sure, for more Now, before my accent, I'd rather be asking for
- 24:52more than for less. I'd like a calmer horse, but now
- 24:55I need them just to be like, giving me 110 and mayors don't.
- 24:58Mayors seem to give me 110, you know that They don't have, you
- 25:01know. Yeah.
- 25:04All fired up, but. But yeah, so.
- 25:09I, I like kind of feel like when I picture you and your horse
- 25:12together and you guys bonded, I feel like it's like Avatar.
- 25:16Yeah, Avatar, you guys like? Oh, yeah.
- 25:20Yeah. That's funny.
- 25:21Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:22What a story though. Like thinking about going from,
- 25:25you know, not only does the horse got to learn how to do it
- 25:28right, but you had to relearn not, not the roping piece of it
- 25:32per SE, but like how your body works differently.
- 25:35Yeah, post accident balance and balance and horsemanship.
- 25:39I mean horsemanship, like I said, it's all legs.
- 25:41So it was just everything that I've ever known.
- 25:43Yeah. You know, everything I've ever
- 25:45been taught, everything that I've ever dialed, everything
- 25:46I've ever worked on my craft with, it was all just opposite.
- 25:49So like you, you mentioned before, like everything came
- 25:53easy to you before the accident, right?
- 25:54Yeah. And then obviously you can't use
- 25:57your legs after. Right.
- 25:59Like mentally how? How hard is that?
- 26:02Oh, dude, like I mean from the rope, like, let alone the
- 26:06roping, like I mean, the way that I I always try to be a good
- 26:11person, you know, and like the way that I would try to be try
- 26:13to like help others is was physically, you know, I mean, I
- 26:16was a six foot 4. I'm 6 foot 5, you know, my and
- 26:19through high school, I was in my junior year, I was 65, you know,
- 26:21like if I seen somebody needing the help with him with
- 26:24something, you know, that was like that was my way of I would
- 26:27always try and like, you know, hold the door, open the door,
- 26:29you know, whatever, you know what I mean?
- 26:31Like just just physical ways was the way that I always knew I
- 26:33could help somebody. So going from that to like.
- 26:37Yo, could you give me a hand? Like that was the hardest thing
- 26:40for me. Oh, just, you know, it was like
- 26:42having to ask somebody for help. Are you kidding me?
- 26:46When you were probably doing it all on your own.
- 26:47Oh man, it was so hard just to have to like accept, accept
- 26:52help. Like it just killed me for a
- 26:53while, but now, you know, now it's like I, I have a really
- 26:57good group of buddies and I still do and I don't even really
- 27:01notice anymore. It's just kind of the way we've
- 27:03everything goes, you know, and it's been going like that for so
- 27:07long that it doesn't even like. What like, so my interaction
- 27:11with you is when I, when I called you, right?
- 27:14And I was like, 'cause we talked about this, like, well, can you
- 27:17get in the camper or whatever? Yeah.
- 27:18And I was like, hey man, we do our podcast in the camper.
- 27:21You know, I mean, we could do it outside.
- 27:23And your response was, man, I'm paralyzed, I ain't dead.
- 27:26Yeah, I'm just crippled. I ain't dead, man.
- 27:30Yeah, Hell yeah. And that's been my, my, my
- 27:32mentality with everything. He's just.
- 27:35We're gonna go do it no matter what.
- 27:37But how? We'll figure out how we do it
- 27:39when we get there. You.
- 27:40Know well and it was funny the night we met right you're the
- 27:43when we were launching the podcast, you're the first person
- 27:45that we even talked to about this right and the night that we
- 27:48all met out of Dylan's you were out there singing right and I
- 27:51was like, oh he's really, really good yeah.
- 27:53And the next thing you know, I turn around and he's rope been
- 27:55goats, yeah. Like.
- 27:57I won third, yeah. I'm like, what the hell is going
- 27:59on? And then chain's like, no, dude,
- 28:01he's he's like a pro Roper. And I was like, what are you
- 28:04talking about? The dude's in a wheelchair.
- 28:05He's like, no, you gotta check this shit out.
- 28:07When he started watching, I was like, holy shit.
- 28:10Yeah, dude. Yeah, it was.
- 28:11Crazy. It was awesome.
- 28:12That's how I first saw you, was on TikTok, right?
- 28:14Your video just popped up. Oh, yeah, You know, And I was
- 28:17like, holy shit. And then there you are at
- 28:18Dylan's and I'm like, holy shit, yeah.
- 28:22Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, that's funny.
- 28:24Yeah. I mean, we're right.
- 28:25We're right. We're neighbors.
- 28:26We were neighbors pretty much right up, right down the road.
- 28:28But it. Had no clue.
- 28:30Yeah, I know your neighbor, Tucker.
- 28:31I used to hang out with Tucker. Oh, really?
- 28:33Yeah, Everybody used to hang out with him here and there.
- 28:35Nice. Yeah, Man, that was funny.
- 28:38I won. I won third place at that go
- 28:40roping that night. And then just the other night we
- 28:42were at Hanson's. I played out there for a truck
- 28:43meet and they were there too. They did another go roping and I
- 28:46won first, you know, now with my little cousin there.
- 28:48Yeah. So both ropings I've gone
- 28:49through there's, I've won, I've won something there so.
- 28:51That's awesome. Well, how do?
- 28:52You do the go roping, I obviously or you're you're in
- 28:55your wheelchair, right Yeah, you just give it one spin and then
- 28:57you. No, if I'm heading, I don't even
- 28:59move. I just I just I just crack him
- 29:01right, right on the head side. But if I'm but if I'm healing.
- 29:04I have my cut, my little cousin, he'll just push me like as fast
- 29:07as he can. OK, Around the corner.
- 29:09That night we come around and I roped one.
- 29:11I doubled up on one on the hillside and he he dropped me
- 29:14out of my wheelchair, but I still caught him.
- 29:16Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's awesome.
- 29:19Heck yeah. Can.
- 29:19You can you do it all by yourself, Like say if you wanna
- 29:23go roping, can you get your horse in the trailer by it, but
- 29:26by yourself, Get in your car by yourself and all that.
- 29:29Yeah, so. And I was like, I mean, that was
- 29:31even like a learning curve too, is like if I wanted to go do
- 29:33something by myself, like it's a whole process, you know what I
- 29:36mean? So from hooking up a trailer to
- 29:39get in my chair and you don't think about like, OK, I gotta
- 29:41get my truck, gotta get my chair in there somewhere, back it up.
- 29:45Now I gotta go check and make sure I'm over my head, right.
- 29:47Yeah. And then if I'm not OK, I gotta
- 29:49go back to my truck, load my chair back in again, OK.
- 29:51And then I go, you know what I mean?
- 29:52Yeah. And then it's like, OK, we can
- 29:54drop it on. And then my horse, like for a
- 29:56little while, my Matt mare, that was her only issue was she'd
- 29:59like to flip around and trailer and come right back out.
- 30:01Actually, you know what I mean? Few times she jumped clear over
- 30:03my head and my wheelchair like, oh shit, I can't have that shit,
- 30:06don't worry. Yeah.
- 30:07So we, yeah, we I mean, now she I could throw her from the
- 30:12three-point line to the trailer and shit, dude, that's awesome.
- 30:14Send it, you know, so that's what to do Yeah.
- 30:16I mean, I think it helps too. I mean, the time I was, I was
- 30:19ripping A2 horse straight load. So I mean that'll that'll make a
- 30:22horse swim around sometimes too. And I'm now we're, we're in a
- 30:24four horse, you know, slant with, with dividers like.
- 30:28Well, I know she's normally. I'm sure you don't go by
- 30:30yourself right 'cause you're like with your.
- 30:32Your team and all that, yeah. Hanging out with your buddies.
- 30:35When I was in Oklahoma, I went a lot by myself for sure when I
- 30:38was over and then when I came back here for the at first I I
- 30:40was going quite a bit with myself.
- 30:42But I mean, that's everything, like having a horse that I can
- 30:45trust to get on by myself, like, not having to, like, not having
- 30:50to, like, worry about that. Yeah.
- 30:51She would always like just chill when I get on.
- 30:53You saddle her up by yourself, too.
- 30:55Yeah, I saddle by myself and and, but if I would pull up to a
- 30:59rope in her, whatever. And like, I was by myself, I'd
- 31:02get on and then I'd have somebody like I'd go find
- 31:04somebody random tie my feet into my strips.
- 31:06That's the only thing that I like only.
- 31:07OK, you know what I mean? I can probably do it if I really
- 31:09try. But like the the the rodeo
- 31:12communities, like, Oh yeah. Like, why not Like just, you
- 31:15know, can you tell, can you put some bands on my feet real
- 31:17quick? Like, yeah, And if you don't,
- 31:19then like, you're a douche. I don't know.
- 31:21Yeah, I. Don't know what to say.
- 31:23You got a bigger problem. So yeah, you should go to church
- 31:26dog, right? Yeah, no doubt.
- 31:28But. Yeah.
- 31:29Awesome. Well, you've been doing a bunch
- 31:31of travelling lately, haven't you?
- 31:32Yeah, slowing down. Yeah, a little bit we.
- 31:36So I went to Nashville. OK, So what were you doing in
- 31:39Nashville? Yeah.
- 31:42So I just cut my first record in Nashville.
- 31:44Congratulations. Thank you, man.
- 31:45Thank you. It's called gold buckles,
- 31:48actually. It's going to be out this
- 31:49weekend, August 29th. Yeah, August 29th of the drops
- 31:54on everything. So yeah, got to download it.
- 31:58Pre save it, download it. Yeah, yeah, link it for sure,
- 32:01for sure. Yeah.
- 32:02And then so we went out there and styles, Hari, he was down
- 32:08here. None of this was on my radar,
- 32:11you know, six months ago, but I met a guy named Stiles or I
- 32:14don't know what I went to. I went to March.
- 32:16So whatever that was before that I was.
- 32:18And this wasn't even something I was like wanting to, I mean, not
- 32:20that I don't want to, but I didn't not anything I knew how
- 32:22to pursue or anything like that. You know, Stiles, Hari and Sadie
- 32:26Bass, though they, they had some dental work done by my neighbor
- 32:31Doctor, Doctor Harmon and they were down here.
- 32:36They did like a little private concert deal over at his house
- 32:39and I went over there and I just played, they had me, they wanted
- 32:41me to ask me if I'd play 2 songs in that with them at that deal.
- 32:44And I played Gold Buckles and I played another one.
- 32:47I've been playing Gold Buckles since me and Coy Kraut.
- 32:50I don't know if you know who Coy Kraut is, he's a bullfighter,
- 32:53but he grew up off low mountain over there and Whitman.
- 32:57And we wrote, I mean, I he ended up writing the second verse,
- 33:01but, you know, we wrote the, I wrote that first chorus and that
- 33:04for the verse in the chorus and all that.
- 33:06And then Coy went home and he wrote kind of a bull fight.
- 33:09And that's where the bull fighting comes from in that
- 33:11song. The second-half of that, you
- 33:12know, is from Coy. And so I've been saying that
- 33:15since a year after I was in high school.
- 33:18I'm not. That's when I wrote that.
- 33:19So all my buddies been hearing that song for a long time.
- 33:21You know, I didn't think nothing of it.
- 33:22But I played that song at this little concert deal.
- 33:25And Stylus told me he's like, dude, if I told you to come cut
- 33:28that Nashville, would you do it? I was like, yeah, he's like,
- 33:31well, don't, don't pussy out, you know?
- 33:33Sorry for that, you know, but that's what that you know, yeah.
- 33:36Yeah, And he's like, he's like, just, I'm just gonna tell you.
- 33:39And this guy, this guy wrote country on for Luke Bryan, you
- 33:43know, he's written. And that was, you know, country
- 33:45gone and all. And he wrote that He wrote, I
- 33:47think he wrote six or seven other number ones, you know, and
- 33:51coming from him and your mom, your grandma tell you you're
- 33:54good at singing. And you're like, thanks,
- 33:56grandma. Yeah.
- 33:56But like, you know what I mean? I'm not taking that to the bank,
- 33:59you know, but this guy's like he's said like, listen to me
- 34:02like you're stupid if you don't pursue this.
- 34:05I'm telling you that right now. And so I was like, and then he's
- 34:07like, you know, I'll, I'll make it happen for you if you want to
- 34:10do it, you know, and, and meeting this guy and like being
- 34:14around him, he's a good old boy. Like he's like, and the first
- 34:19thing you told me was like, he's like, if you want to do this,
- 34:21he's like, call me first. And the only reason I say that
- 34:24is because I don't want you to get screwed over, right?
- 34:26Because I want to. Yeah.
- 34:27And he says, and he's like, he's like, that's that.
- 34:30I could be just another guy trying to screw you over.
- 34:32I just see how that sounds. But he's like, he's like, I got
- 34:35no reason. I'm doing fine.
- 34:37He's like, I have no reason to screw you over.
- 34:38He's like, I just want to show you how to just set yourself up
- 34:41so that you don't. So nobody's hands in the pot
- 34:43besides yours, you know what I mean?
- 34:44So like here and there after that from him, right?
- 34:46Was like, all right, you know what I mean?
- 34:48And then man, he, we, we flew out to Nashville and I mean,
- 34:53this guy just called in every favor in the book.
- 34:55I this would have been a twenty $20,000 deal for me to go do.
- 35:00And I mean, I think I paid 3500 bucks, 3 thousand $3000 out of
- 35:06pocket, you know what I mean? And 20,000 is kind of cheap
- 35:08like. That's, well, that's like crazy
- 35:10to know. I didn't know that.
- 35:12Like people go down there to make music and they have to pay.
- 35:15Yeah, yeah, you paid for studio. Time you're paying for a
- 35:18producer. Oh yeah.
- 35:19For mastering all like, and I mean, if, if obviously, if a
- 35:24label sees you and a label picks you up and they want to like
- 35:29invest in you, then sure, you're not, you're not paying anything,
- 35:31you know, I mean, and that's where a lot of those guys end
- 35:33up, you know, they end up looking out and doing those
- 35:35kinds of things. But like for, for a guy like me
- 35:39where styles is like, I don't want to get any of, you know, he
- 35:40said, I don't want any of those people involved right now.
- 35:42He's like, I want you to just do you, you know what I mean?
- 35:45And that's where like, like Zach Bryan, I mean, he just sold or
- 35:48he didn't even sell. He didn't sign with anybody
- 35:51until like four or five months ago.
- 35:53He just leased the rights to his music for 10 years, right, for
- 35:58$355,000,000. Wow.
- 36:02Damn. For 10 years he leased it and
- 36:05then at the end of those 10 years.
- 36:07At the end of those 10 years, he can release or do whatever, but
- 36:10that's because he didn't sign with anybody.
- 36:12He just did it all on his own. Yeah, he put out what, freaking
- 36:16you? She probably knows 2530 albums,
- 36:19you know. Yeah.
- 36:20And then it, you know, it was just like.
- 36:22Also, like Oliver Anthony, right?
- 36:24Like he kind of owns his own, right?
- 36:27All of all, of all of his own. Music.
- 36:28Yeah, I think it was Rogan that Todd talked him into doing that
- 36:31or he was like, do you don't you know these people?
- 36:33He's like, they're trying to tell me that I'm going to lose
- 36:35this, lose that. He's like, you're, you know,
- 36:36it's there's just a lot of crooked people in this world,
- 36:40you know? Oh yeah.
- 36:41I love to. I like to believe there's more
- 36:43good than there is evil, you know, but and I think there is I
- 36:45I really do. But, but there is unfortunately,
- 36:48there is people that put a bad rap on that industry and a bad
- 36:51rap on those people because it's just like.
- 36:52Well, it seems like it's starting to come light, right?
- 36:55Like. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know for
- 36:56sure. I think like with the whole
- 36:57Kanye thing, like he he was coming out and saying stuff and
- 37:01yeah, that kind of got people looking and then it's like.
- 37:04Diddy's craziness, yeah. Yeah, all that Diddy crap going
- 37:08on. Yeah, that's a whole other
- 37:09that's not dude, but. That's just baby lotion.
- 37:12Yeah. But I think, I think, yeah, I
- 37:17think there is definitely an awareness, yeah to that aspect
- 37:20of the industry. So like people are opening their
- 37:23eyes to that. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:25And but thankfully I fell in with the right people right at
- 37:27the beginning, you know, and styles, Hari, like you check his
- 37:30music out sometime too. Like the dudes freaking awesome
- 37:33and I could probably even hooked it up for you guys.
- 37:35He can get probably come on here and talk to you too.
- 37:36But like, just a good old boy, like, and, and, and he told he,
- 37:40you know, we've, we've become really good friends, you know,
- 37:42since his deal. And he was telling me he's like,
- 37:46I mean, this guy was filing for bankruptcy before he got into
- 37:48music 'cause he was 'cause he was hunting so much.
- 37:51Oh. 'Cause he was hunting.
- 37:52Addiction, damn. And and he literally told me
- 37:55he's like, dude, if I didn't have to do music and I could
- 37:57just hunt, he's like, that's all it would do Dang.
- 37:59And so he's like, he's like I literally he's like, I just fell
- 38:02into like doing this music deal and like and started paying for
- 38:05my hunting addiction. And so like I was, you know,
- 38:07he's like, it's, it seemed to be the right move, you know?
- 38:10Yeah, and that's, I mean, this guy just, if you've met them, if
- 38:14you've ever met somebody that like seems like they're on like
- 38:16Adderall or meth, that like isn't like he just, he's like,
- 38:21no, like the most clean cut guy you've ever seen, right.
- 38:24Yeah. But he just, he's 100 miles an
- 38:25hour. He's like, he does not stop.
- 38:27Yeah, he just doesn't quit. Like he just.
- 38:29Has to be if he's a hunter. Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 38:31Like. How does he sit and I just
- 38:33that's not he. Doesn't.
- 38:34That's what I'm saying. He does not.
- 38:36I don't know when he's hunting. You're saying?
- 38:37Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
- 38:39You know, that might be different.
- 38:40You might be able to like call me like that.
- 38:42That's probably why he does it right, honestly.
- 38:45Yeah. To help him out with it.
- 38:47Yeah, because he's got to be exhausted if he's going
- 38:491,000,000 miles an hour all the time.
- 38:50Yeah, he just. But his hunting is where he gets
- 38:52to settle his mind. Yeah, Yeah, he might.
- 38:55That's actually. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 38:56He just did. So when I flew out there, he did
- 38:59his, he just did his Grand Opry debut.
- 39:01Oh, so I flew out there, we got off the plane, Styles did his
- 39:05Grand Opry debut. We went to that and it was
- 39:07awesome. He's got a song called Sitting
- 39:10in a Deer Stand. That's the song that he sang.
- 39:12They sing. He sing 2 songs Sitting in a
- 39:14deer stand like God's Grocery Store.
- 39:17I think that's what his album is called is God's Grocery Store.
- 39:19And it's like it's like a shopping cart with a deer upside
- 39:22down and you know what I mean? So it's like he's all about.
- 39:25Is awesome and. He's like hunting, but it's not,
- 39:26I don't know, like some of the more pop country stuff is like
- 39:29all hunting, you know, it's like bigger trucks, Isn't that blah
- 39:32blah. Like Styles is like, I don't
- 39:34know, he really sings about like stories about how like hunting
- 39:38is his life. Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 39:39And it's like his, you know, grandpas and dads and this and
- 39:41that. Like his music is really like is
- 39:43different than that. It's not really pop country.
- 39:45I wouldn't say it's but it's it's good.
- 39:47I take check him out. But anyhow, yeah.
- 39:51So I mean, he just called in every favor of the book.
- 39:53I mean, I just listen to him. I feel like, you know, I, you
- 39:55know, you owe me one. You know, this guy, this guy's
- 39:57coming and doing this, you know. So I mean, just what we were
- 40:00working with Grady Saxman. That's the guy that he he
- 40:03produced Dick down in Dallas. He produced Luke Combs gold, you
- 40:06know, gold platinum records. He did a Jelly roll.
- 40:09You know, I'm just sitting, you know, that was a whole other
- 40:13deal in and of itself watching how those guys work.
- 40:15I mean, they call in. I had it was Faith Hill's
- 40:20drummer. And I think it was Keith Urban's
- 40:23guitarist or somebody, I can't remember.
- 40:25There was and that that's George Strait's slide player that was
- 40:28playing on my on gold buckles. Yeah, it's alright.
- 40:31Or at least somebody that's done a lot of George Strait's
- 40:33records, you know, just, you know, I mean, these guys are
- 40:37just, they're, they're called the Nashville Riders, man.
- 40:39Or like they just there's guys that are calls out five many.
- 40:42How we're sitting in this. We, we drive out to this like
- 40:45house in the middle of nowhere, like in, in Nashville, in the
- 40:48back of the woods and that this house was the whole, the whole
- 40:51house was converted to a studio. So like the drummer's up in one
- 40:55bedroom, the guitarist is upstairs in another bedroom.
- 40:57You know, everybody's in their own room.
- 40:59And then I've got a 40 inch TV in front of me and I'm, I'm can,
- 41:02I can talk to all them this and that, you know, change this,
- 41:05change that. I wasn't saying change this or
- 41:08change that at all. I mean, I'm out of my element
- 41:09when. I yeah, that day I was literally
- 41:12like. Was that your like first
- 41:15interaction being in a studio? Ever I've ever I've never been
- 41:19in a never even seen an inside of a studio until this day.
- 41:22So I mean, it was like literally going full throttle day one
- 41:25like. Like how?
- 41:26Like how, how is that? I mean, is it like all day?
- 41:29Is it? Is it?
- 41:30So dude, 2 hours, 2 hours, start to finish.
- 41:33We had that song done. Wow.
- 41:35And, and these guys had never even heard the song before they
- 41:39got there, really. And so, yeah.
- 41:40And I didn't even play any music.
- 41:42I didn't play single. I didn't play any music.
- 41:43The first of the first, Yeah, the first, the first.
- 41:47We did two different studios. The first session we were at the
- 41:51recording of the instrumental side of things.
- 41:54I'm just sitting there. I'd hum, I would sing to the
- 41:56song a little bit with them. So they had an idea of where I
- 41:58wanted things, you know. But I mean, these guys kicked
- 42:02out, you know, like a the bass line in 5 minutes and then and
- 42:07then they would just screw with each other like like, hey, hey,
- 42:10that a drumming upstairs that sounds like shit, like dude,
- 42:14change this, you know what I mean?
- 42:15And then like they would just pick at each other, you know
- 42:16what I mean? So it was kind of cool to watch
- 42:18them work too, you know, and like figure it out.
- 42:20I don't know if we could swear on you.
- 42:21I'm sorry. I can't.
- 42:22OK, I anyhow. But like, you know, they just
- 42:24pick at each other and, and, and, and then until they had
- 42:28like something I'm like, just keep letting them do what
- 42:30they're doing. You know, it's starting to sound
- 42:31good, you know, and then we went back and we added instruments.
- 42:35We added, you know, the slide, the steel guitar, you know,
- 42:38slide guitar and couple other things.
- 42:41I had them take a couple things out and.
- 42:43So how much? How much control of your song
- 42:45did you have? I mean, I probably had them
- 42:47send. I probably had them send we
- 42:52probably went seven. I heard I heard that song 17
- 42:55different ways with 17 different instruments and this and that
- 42:57before we started fine tuning it.
- 42:58Yeah, yeah, you know what I mean?
- 43:00And that was just because, you know, I I need this change.
- 43:02I need that change. And I'm like, it's, it's hard to
- 43:05like when this guy just called all these favors for me and I'm
- 43:07like, I don't want to be yeah, you know, but it's my music.
- 43:10But it's your exactly. It's like, it's my music.
- 43:12And I can't, you know, I can't fathom like it not sounding
- 43:16coming out the way that I would want it to come out, you know,
- 43:18but like, you know, so that was interesting to have a getting.
- 43:21But like, I just come to find out, like Styles is not like,
- 43:24you know, he's not a he doesn't give a damn.
- 43:26Like just he just wants you to be.
- 43:28Yeah, just tell me what? Yeah.
- 43:29Awesome. I mean, this guy really stuck
- 43:31his neck out and helped me out so.
- 43:33And and he's just been awesome for me.
- 43:34So. But yeah.
- 43:37So and then we went to the second-half a thing.
- 43:39I did the vocals and and that was another whole other deal.
- 43:42You know, I've got my dad went up there and my grandpa went up
- 43:45there. My cousin Brayden went up there
- 43:47with me and then we've got Doctor Harmon, which is the
- 43:50dentist that kind of introduced us.
- 43:52He came out to see Styles grand old opera Debio.
- 43:55So they were there. I I mean, there's a room full of
- 43:58like 9 people in this house window and I'm on the other side
- 44:01of the glass, you know, like looking at all these nine people
- 44:03chilling. I can hear every.
- 44:04I mean, if they whispered in that room, I could hear it.
- 44:06No shit. I mean, if they're just.
- 44:07Yeah, just like we're talking right now.
- 44:09Yeah. And they're like 20 feet away
- 44:10from the glass and I can hear him talking like that.
- 44:13Dang. So if they say any whisper about
- 44:15what's going on or how I'm singing and this or that, like
- 44:17I'm just like. This is a this is all new man.
- 44:20You know, this is like it's intense.
- 44:21It's. Kind of fishbowl.
- 44:22You feel like that right when you're in here.
- 44:24Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Right.
- 44:26Exactly. Exactly.
- 44:27Lot of money. Lot of money, right dude?
- 44:29A lot. Of money, dude, just play this
- 44:30thing's sick, man. But anyhow, so we, yeah, we, you
- 44:34know, you sing every line. You just sing line by line 12 I
- 44:38mean 1220 times. So you don't, you don't really
- 44:40sing the whole song. No piece of together.
- 44:42You sing it line by line and then, you know, like, OK, I
- 44:45like, I like the inflection there, like the vibrato there,
- 44:48you know, throw a little more, you know, this or of that, you
- 44:51know, whatever. But yeah, so that was another
- 44:56cool thing that I got to do. And and hopefully I get to
- 45:00actually I'm going to be doing again.
- 45:01I'm fine going back in a couple weeks.
- 45:03Oh, yeah. I'm cutting four more this time
- 45:05when I go back out. Five more when I go back out
- 45:06this time, Yeah. So how old were you when you
- 45:09actually started? Singing and stuff yeah, so I,
- 45:12I've sang my whole life like when I was really, really,
- 45:14really little, you know, like my mom put me in like the plays and
- 45:17stuff with my little sisters, you know but I'd be I wrestled
- 45:20all growing up too, you know what I mean?
- 45:21Like, you know, I did that too and I just yeah, I, I don't
- 45:24know, I, I always enjoyed singing.
- 45:25I, I and I always, I never did it though, like oops, sorry.
- 45:29I never did it though, like on a a level like that in any way.
- 45:33I, I just, I'd sing to the radio, you know, and I never
- 45:36played guitar until after my car accident.
- 45:39But my my dad gave me a guitar after I got my in my car
- 45:44accident I started playing. Excuse me, sorry.
- 45:50I started playing guitar after my car wreck and me and Quick
- 45:55Kraut sat in his bedroom out here in Whitman for a whole
- 45:58summer one time. And I mean, we just we taught
- 46:02ourselves in the summer off YouTube.
- 46:03Nice. That's all.
- 46:04We just kind of ran with it. And then, you know, my my
- 46:07buddies and me would always talk about and they were all my
- 46:09buddies always tell me I sang really good, you know what I
- 46:11mean? And and but even them saying,
- 46:15you know, it's like I, I appreciate it, you know, but and
- 46:17we would always joke like we're gonna do this someday.
- 46:19We're gonna figure out how to, you know, get into this right,
- 46:22you know, and it was always, you know, we never did a damn thing
- 46:25about it, not a thing, you know what I mean?
- 46:27It was always like, we're gonna make it happen, you know,
- 46:29nobody. Where do you go though?
- 46:30Right? Like, you know.
- 46:31How do I start? Yeah, you know.
- 46:33What I said, do you know we're all rodeo kids from Whitman,
- 46:36Arizona? I would.
- 46:37You know, it's and it's all who you know when it's for sure, you
- 46:39know what I mean unfortunately, but fortunately, you know, if if
- 46:42you put yourself in good positions to meet good people,
- 46:44then good things, you know, good things can happen.
- 46:46You know, so like. Like, imagine if you were at
- 46:49that party and you said, no, I don't want to.
- 46:51Right. Yeah, right.
- 46:52Exactly. Yeah.
- 46:53It's like, well, I mean, why close doors for yourself?
- 46:55But it's like I just lost my train of thought.
- 47:01Or were you just talking about? No, it's but what you were
- 47:03saying about closing doors for yourself.
- 47:05Yeah, like it's like I I think that is such a missed component
- 47:08that people don't understand, right.
- 47:10You know, you talked about how there's people out there to get
- 47:13you, but the the reality is, is you want to think that most
- 47:15people are good, right? Yeah.
- 47:17And are there to open up. Doors you do.
- 47:18Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's something that's
- 47:20good to have. You know what I mean?
- 47:22I don't who wants to go out every day to get everybody's out
- 47:25together? We're out to hurt.
- 47:26I'm like, what kind of way of life to live is that, you know?
- 47:29Exactly. There is no life to live like
- 47:31that. No, and you never and you're
- 47:32never. Then you're completely closed
- 47:34off to me, Right. People are being open to that,
- 47:36you know what I mean? But you know, yeah.
- 47:39So we, I learned how to play guitar.
- 47:41And then it was just like us making, you know, us making
- 47:45those jokes, like, you know, we're going to figure out how to
- 47:47do this, you know, whatever, blah, blah.
- 47:48But I never did it. You know, I went to, I went to
- 47:50auctioneering school after I went got out of high school and
- 47:53I became an auctioneer. There's a school for.
- 47:55That yeah, I flew to Clear Lake, IA and I became an auctioneer.
- 47:58So give us some give. Us some right now I want to get.
- 47:59Them how to get them, how to get them, how to get them, how to
- 48:01get them behind pounds and let it down 6 pair, I don't get to
- 48:03get 7 now they only get to get 7 to get them seven, yeah.
- 48:06What? Yeah, man.
- 48:07So I. Did that for a long.
- 48:08Time. Hold on.
- 48:09Yeah, I went on 1/5 three. Yeah.
- 48:11When what's like the like is there like a is like a book?
- 48:16No, man, there's really not. There's no book for that.
- 48:19How do you how do you even start to teach somebody?
- 48:21So this is how I got into it. I was, I, I, I showed livestock
- 48:26all growing up, right? So I showed pigs FFA whole deal,
- 48:30always around auctions, been to cattle auctions my whole life,
- 48:33you know what I mean? And I, I got my car accident and
- 48:40my uncle Travis Zimmerman, he was like, you know, I and I, I
- 48:44just taught myself off YouTube in high school before my
- 48:45accident, right? Yeah.
- 48:46But I like, I was pretty decent at, you know.
- 48:48What I mean, I just thought it was a.
- 48:49Joke to a little party trick, whatever, you know, yeah.
- 48:51Try get the girls. Yeah, well, I don't know if that
- 48:53gets girls, but there's something, I guess.
- 48:55You want to see how I work my tongue?
- 48:56Yeah. I have said it before, but yeah,
- 49:02yeah, I was. I don't know how far we're going
- 49:04to this podcast. Damn, I'm gonna go to auction
- 49:05school. He's gonna go.
- 49:06To auction school for other for alternative reasons you're.
- 49:10Right. Oh shit.
- 49:11But anyhow. This is gonna be her favorite
- 49:13podcast. Oh my goodness.
- 49:16But anyhow, we. I got my car accident.
- 49:20My Travis was like, dude, he's like, why don't you go to
- 49:23auction in school? He's like, I know anything.
- 49:24It's a joke, but like that's a joke.
- 49:26Like it's a joke to you right now, but like, why don't you
- 49:28gotta figure out something to sit down and make money?
- 49:30Yeah, I'm just like, whatever man.
- 49:32So, you know, they I thought to, to Clear Lake, IA and I went to,
- 49:36I say to schooling, it's like a two week school.
- 49:38But I always give my sister shit.
- 49:39Like she's like she's, she's about, she's a college graduate,
- 49:42you know, and I'm like, I'm a college graduate too.
- 49:46My diploma says Worldwide College of Auctioneering.
- 49:48Yeah. So I don't give a damn what you
- 49:50say. I was like, why?
- 49:51Yeah. Worldwide prestige, yeah.
- 49:56But anyhow, that's awesome, yeah.
- 49:59So then I went to selling, man, I got back, went to selling.
- 50:01I, I worked for WSM for a while, sold for E JS auctions.
- 50:06I did work for Fidelity estate services.
- 50:08I did state liquidations and stuff like that.
- 50:11And I, I loved it, you know, and then what I really got into my
- 50:14Grove was with, with like the charity benefit auctions.
- 50:17So I did a lot. I mean, I did the Wickenburg
- 50:19hospital. I do the kids foundation.
- 50:21I do one of the breast cancer societies I've done, I've done
- 50:26just a bunch of big, you know, auctions like that.
- 50:28And I mean, it sounds bad I guess, but like that's where the
- 50:32money is. We want to get into that.
- 50:34That's the crop of auctioneering.
- 50:35I mean, those are those charity auctioneers.
- 50:37You're making 20% of everything you sell.
- 50:39Oh wow. You show up in a night with a
- 50:41date, you get a 5 course meal and you're clearing 2030
- 50:44thousand and. What's the, what's the, what's
- 50:46the strategy to be an auctioneer, right?
- 50:48Like if you are if if you're getting paid by how much you
- 50:52sell, like what is like what is your strategy?
- 50:55How do you get people to start buying I.
- 50:57Mean, I think that that that in and of itself like, like the
- 51:01the, you know, I only get about how to get them, how to get
- 51:03invited. That in and of itself is, is
- 51:06rhythmic to people. Yeah, people come to listen to
- 51:09that. It's like AI would say, you know
- 51:11what I mean? Yeah, absolutely.
- 51:13You know, but people, I mean like, I mean especially like
- 51:16cattle auctions, like guys will literally tell me like I don't,
- 51:20I I hate to go to the catalogs and listen to a damn 80 year old
- 51:23man that can't sell worth the shit, you know what I mean?
- 51:25But like listening to Colton, like it's a good, you know, but
- 51:28so I think but but knowing how to drive sales, right,
- 51:32especially and it depends on what kind of auction you're at,
- 51:34you know, like on my charity auctions, there's an hour long
- 51:37cocktail hours. These guys are buzzed up.
- 51:40I got millionaires in this room, then they're just here to spend
- 51:43money to get a tax write off. Yeah.
- 51:45And they've got $100,000 to spend for the end of the year or
- 51:47$1,000,000 to spend for the end of the year.
- 51:49You know what I mean? And for me, it's like, let's
- 51:51find out who has the biggest pick in the room, right?
- 51:53Yeah, literally. Like I'm gonna, I'm gonna drive
- 51:55my. I mean, if somebody starts
- 51:56saying no, I'm like, oh, you know, I mean, I'd give him hell,
- 52:00you know, I'd give him hell. It's just money, dude.
- 52:02Like I'll lend you 20 bucks. What is it that big of a deal to
- 52:04you? Like, come on, you know what?
- 52:05I. Mean yeah.
- 52:06Oh, whatever, you know. So you know I just started,
- 52:08right? Yeah, You know, I've never sold
- 52:10a pie, a pumpkin pie for 15 grand before, you know what I
- 52:13mean? Like, and that's just, but, but,
- 52:15but those are that kind of auction.
- 52:17It doesn't matter what you're buying.
- 52:18They're there to spend money. They're there to do it for a
- 52:20good 'cause experience, right? Yeah.
- 52:22And then it's they get a tax break, you know what I mean?
- 52:24So it's like, why not look good? Why not give money to this
- 52:26foundation, right. So I'm gonna have fun with it.
- 52:29You know, cattle auctions and I, I've only done 1 cattle auction
- 52:32is a Yavapai calf sale. But with that one, I mean, I, I
- 52:41it's even that one's a little different.
- 52:43I I don't, I don't want to have no ranchers yearly income in my
- 52:46hands. Yeah, no, I don't.
- 52:48I don't care to have that, you know what I mean?
- 52:49Such. It's a serious auction.
- 52:51I mean, you're literally determining a guy's a guy's
- 52:53worth for a year, you know what I mean?
- 52:56And it's a lot of pressure. Exactly.
- 52:57And I don't, I don't, I don't care to tell you what, what,
- 53:00what you're, you're making this year, you know what I mean?
- 53:02That's not going to be my job, you know.
- 53:05And so, and I've, you know, I, it's just like one of those
- 53:08things. I don't care to do that, you
- 53:09know, I don't have that. I, I care to do the other.
- 53:11I do the other ones more when I got fun with it and tease people
- 53:14there for good 'cause I. Never even I I never even
- 53:17thought about just like what you brought up is you are in control
- 53:24of somebody elses money. Yeah.
- 53:26Right, like you're. Teaching them to buy more,
- 53:28right? Yeah.
- 53:29Yeah, you're, I mean, you're clearly determining what, what
- 53:32they're making that year. Yeah.
- 53:33You know, so like a good auctioneer can make, you know,
- 53:36he, he can, he can tell you're making 100,000 versus 150,000.
- 53:39That's, you know what I mean. So it's like, you know, and then
- 53:42and that's why you have so many damn fistfights and sail barns.
- 53:46You shitting me like that, That's where you're going to
- 53:49stay sold out, you know, not drive those prices.
- 53:51That's your job as an auctioneers that drive those
- 53:52prices. You're asking earlier, you know,
- 53:54how do you drive those prices with cattle auctions?
- 53:57It it really is turning things up, making people bid quicker,
- 54:00you know, get in the flow of the day.
- 54:01So like, you know, instead of trying to drag things out, you
- 54:03know, maybe run one of your own lots through there and and sell
- 54:08it quick so people know I better bid.
- 54:11There's some buyers here. I better bid or I'm not going to
- 54:13get to bid. I don't get to.
- 54:15I don't get to sit here and wait, you know, twiddle my
- 54:17thumbs and wait for 30 seconds before I make a bid.
- 54:19I got a bid, you know? Yeah.
- 54:21So you keep people be, you know what I mean?
- 54:22And it's, you know, there's other ways.
- 54:24But like, again, I haven't gotten into that that much on
- 54:27that aspect of things. But but, you know, it's just
- 54:31yeah. Kind of get you into Barrett
- 54:33Jackson. Yeah, I I've been spotted for
- 54:35them. Yeah.
- 54:36Yeah, for Barrett, I so one of my one of my teachers from, from
- 54:39my, from from auctioning college, you know, worldwide,
- 54:42worldwide. One of my, yeah, one of my
- 54:45teachers, he works for Barrett. And so he divided me out there
- 54:48and we I got the bed spot for him, you know, so that was
- 54:51pretty cool. But yeah.
- 54:53I got, I got my horse from an auction and you know, here in
- 54:58from the other side of it, you know what I'm saying?
- 55:00It's like, you motherfucker, I know.
- 55:02I'm like, damn, man, you motherfuckers got me, dude.
- 55:04Yeah, they really, it really does, man.
- 55:06Like when you're there and you're like bidding, you're
- 55:08like. Yeah, dude.
- 55:10Oh, I ain't going to lose, dude. Because it comes like a
- 55:13competition is like. Right.
- 55:14Well, and you just just what you did right there.
- 55:16You just said who's bidding, right?
- 55:17Yeah, those guys. So get this right.
- 55:20There's guys that like, even at the equipment sales, I'll have
- 55:24regulars come back and they want me to watch for a wink.
- 55:28If I wink at you, you bid if I swap my head, if I, if I, if I
- 55:33sneeze you, because they don't want people to know when they're
- 55:35bidding. I mean, there's all, there's old
- 55:36guys at these auctions. They'll just, I mean, literally.
- 55:39Yeah. And that's how they.
- 55:40Yeah. Oh hell yeah.
- 55:41Dude, they don't. I don't want you to know who
- 55:42you're bidding against. Screw you, you know what I mean?
- 55:44That's how that's how it is these auctions, like, I mean,
- 55:47they don't, they don't, they don't, they don't want that.
- 55:49Let's see who's got a bigger 1, you know, going on.
- 55:51They just they want to buy, they want to keep the price right and
- 55:53they want to, you know what I mean?
- 55:55So imagine being up on a podium watching for 13 different
- 55:58individual signals. You know what I mean?
- 56:01You know, you got guys that are doing baseball calls out here to
- 56:04me and I gotta you know, so that's that's where like that's
- 56:07where it really. And and like and like.
- 56:09You can't miss, right? Like you don't.
- 56:11I mean, you can't, but. People be pissed and you can,
- 56:13you know, but. Do you?
- 56:15That's where they help you food spotters.
- 56:17Yeah, so that's where they come in handy, you know what I mean?
- 56:19If I'm. It's hard to miss, you know, and
- 56:21you got three guys with, you know, they each have their own
- 56:23section and it's hard to miss something.
- 56:25And usually I get it. But if I do miss something and
- 56:29I'd hear, yeah, you know, real loud, it's it's hard to miss,
- 56:32you know, but just depends. I mean, I have said so before
- 56:36and some people. Are still.
- 56:38Living, you know, but I say sold it, man.
- 56:41That's a legally binding contract.
- 56:42I. Oh, really?
- 56:43Yeah. Yeah.
- 56:43You just bought it. Yeah, yeah, you just bought it.
- 56:45Yeah. The word sold comes out of my
- 56:47mouth. It's done.
- 56:47Deal. You, you're saying you you own
- 56:49it. Yeah, yeah 'cause now I can't go
- 56:51back now 'cause in that, I mean that dude's gonna be freaking Oh
- 56:53yeah, Even more pissed off, you know what I mean?
- 56:56So anyhow, yeah, it's, it's a, that's why I just, I like those
- 57:01charity ones. I just screw it to everybody.
- 57:03If I, if I miss a bid for somebody's $20,000, you know,
- 57:07they're not that mad. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:08They're gonna go get another drinking bid on something.
- 57:10Else exactly and so it's. Yeah, I just like the vibe of
- 57:14it. And anyhow, that's where I've
- 57:16come. Who's who's?
- 57:18Your like who's your music influences?
- 57:21Do you? Like listening.
- 57:22To OK, so I mean, I mean, I all the greats.
- 57:25I mean, I like George Strait, Hank Williams junior a lot.
- 57:28George Strait newer stuff culture wall, but I mean back to
- 57:33older stuff. I like Buck Owens.
- 57:35I like Charlie Pride, the DLC, David on Co.
- 57:43I don't a lot of just. I like a lot of old country.
- 57:45Yeah. I like a lot of old country,
- 57:46yeah. Like listening to your song, I
- 57:49could. I could kind of hear that.
- 57:50Yeah. I could kind of like hear that
- 57:52older. Right, you know yeah and it's I
- 57:54would even say that it's a little popular than I like that
- 57:57What what we what we finalized on with that go buckle song.
- 58:00I love it, don't get me wrong, but I think I think it's still a
- 58:02little bit popular than what I what I we'll probably do for my
- 58:06next, you know, my next one that I the next one I'm going back.
- 58:10The first one I'm doing is Arizona waves one that I wrote.
- 58:12It's kind of like a play on oceanfront property by George
- 58:14Strait, but it's a really good song.
- 58:16I like it and but again, it'll that'll probably be a way more
- 58:20George 90s like. And actually, I already have the
- 58:23back for the backtrack for it. We already did the instrumental
- 58:26for it. But yeah.
- 58:28So, so you're more like a like a Zach top, Cody Johnson tie.
- 58:32Yeah, I, I would, yeah, probably, Yeah, I would say so.
- 58:35Yeah, for sure. There's one, there's one of
- 58:37these songs. I'm going back to do that.
- 58:39I mean, it sounds like a Kojo song for sure.
- 58:41Just the vibe of it. Yeah, for sure.
- 58:42It's called. I prayed it, but yeah, it's
- 58:44called, yeah. See, like I didn't, I didn't
- 58:46grow up listening to country. OK.
- 58:48Yeah, when? I when I got with my wife,
- 58:49that's she's the one that introduced me, right?
- 58:52And what draws me the country is like having kids, right?
- 58:56And then also too is like the lifestyle.
- 58:58You know what I'm saying? It's, it's, it's, it's the
- 59:00lifestyle. It's like how you know, the like
- 59:04I'm a Christian, you know what I'm saying?
- 59:06And like them hearing like hearing Cody Johnson, like one
- 59:09of the top country artists have a song about Jesus.
- 59:12It's like, dude, that, that kid says.
- 59:14Light in a different way, yeah. Yeah.
- 59:16I mean how many people nowadays in in the media industry talk
- 59:21about God? Yeah, I mean, it's frowned upon,
- 59:24right? And that's the hell happened to
- 59:26this country? You.
- 59:27Know what I mean? You're talking about that this
- 59:28morning. Yeah, it's cool.
- 59:30Like you, you watch like Chris Pratt at all.
- 59:32Like, yeah, I like he came out at the Emmys, like or at the
- 59:34Oscars or whatever the hell it was.
- 59:35I mean, he gave a 3 minute speech on God, yeah, you know
- 59:38what I mean? I'm like, dude, that's cool.
- 59:40Stuff like that, 'cause you want CPI think it's becoming, it's
- 59:44coming back in full. I think definitely like being
- 59:46allowed to be vocal about about your about your, your faith.
- 59:50Yeah, I think that it's coming definitely making it's making it
- 59:53round back way for it like to be a good thing.
- 59:56You know what I mean, 'cause I think damn sure for a long time
- 59:58it was like. No, it was like forbidden.
- 59:59Yeah, like don't, don't mention Jesus.
- 1:00:01Don't you know what I mean? Like don't talk.
- 1:00:02About you talk about religion. Yeah.
- 1:00:05You know what I mean? And what it what is that?
- 1:00:07You know what I mean? Like so, So, yeah.
- 1:00:08So for those those guys like that to really like start to
- 1:00:11integrate that back into the country music industry is like,
- 1:00:13yeah, is awesome. I think it's cool to see.
- 1:00:15I I I also important enjoy it it's.
- 1:00:18Very important. Very.
- 1:00:19Yeah, sorry. I also no just not do again.
- 1:00:22Don't just don't ever that have it again.
- 1:00:24Don't ever that have it again. No, I say that all the time.
- 1:00:27Yeah. But like, to be able to like,
- 1:00:31listen to it with my kids, right?
- 1:00:33Yeah, yeah. It's like when I was.
- 1:00:34Young and not worry about it. Yeah, like they're like, dude,
- 1:00:36when I was younger, you know, I was listening like little Wayne,
- 1:00:38like all that. Stuff and absolutely.
- 1:00:40You know, sometimes we'll throw it on and I'm like.
- 1:00:42Yeah, you know, turn God about that.
- 1:00:44Yeah. Say listening like listening to
- 1:00:46that or watching movies with your parents.
- 1:00:47You're like listening, there's your parent or what?
- 1:00:49Listening to your music. Yeah, I've seen memes all the
- 1:00:51time that are like that. They're like.
- 1:00:54If you're worried about your music, just try listening to it
- 1:00:56next to your parents and see how you.
- 1:00:57Know what I mean? You're like, and there is music
- 1:01:00that you're like, I didn't, you know so.
- 1:01:02So I like I do, I do like where your style is and like where
- 1:01:06like where you want to go, you know, because again, you know,
- 1:01:09that whole new country, you know, like I think they were
- 1:01:13given Luke Bryan some shit about bro country, you know.
- 1:01:16Yeah, I don't know. I like that stuff, right,
- 1:01:18Because, you know, I, I like the beats.
- 1:01:20I like the, you know, how like how like uppity is, but I also
- 1:01:23enjoy like when you sit there and say there's a little bit too
- 1:01:27much pop. I I feel like there isn't.
- 1:01:29Man, yeah, OK, I feel I good. I like feedback, yeah.
- 1:01:32I love that stuff dude. Like, you know, I don't want
- 1:01:36country to go back to old country and I'm sorry for all
- 1:01:38the big country people out there, but that's just not my
- 1:01:41style, right? Oh.
- 1:01:42Right old, back to old old country.
- 1:01:43Yeah, so it's like having like you, the Zach tops and.
- 1:01:47Yeah, I think there's a good Johnson, a good bridge.
- 1:01:49Yeah, exactly though, and I wouldn't see.
- 1:01:51I said I wouldn't. Everybody says like Zach tops
- 1:01:53his 90s, you know, I I think he there's a bridge between that.
- 1:01:56I think that there's like it he integrates kind of what we got
- 1:01:59going on now and and Alan Jackson 90s like country, you
- 1:02:03know, I think it's but I think it's awesome.
- 1:02:06Yeah, I love it. I obviously other people do too.
- 1:02:08You know, he's one of the biggest exactly stars there is
- 1:02:11right now, so. Your sound is great.
- 1:02:12I mean, right, We go to Dylan's every Thursday and we're at
- 1:02:16every rodeo, right? And every time there's a
- 1:02:18musician out, we're always like, oh shit.
- 1:02:21Here we go, right? Here we go.
- 1:02:22And then you came out and I was like, I think I was talking to
- 1:02:25my wife and you started singing. And I was like, what the hell?
- 1:02:29Yeah, when did we get some actual talent out here?
- 1:02:32And we were all like, holy shit, We're actually like.
- 1:02:35Well, thank you. This is really.
- 1:02:36Really good. And then when we all got to
- 1:02:38talking about you going to Nashville, I was like, I I can
- 1:02:41see why. Yeah, right.
- 1:02:42And what's cool, too is like, dude, you are born and raised in
- 1:02:45Arizona. Yeah.
- 1:02:46Yeah. What like we, I feel like, you
- 1:02:49know, Arizona is like the forgotten Western for.
- 1:02:52Sure. Yeah, You know, and that's one
- 1:02:54cool thing that Styles has me doing right now is and, and, you
- 1:02:58know, my family even asked cuz I've got my grandpa managing
- 1:03:01this whole deal, you know what I mean?
- 1:03:03So my grandpa's like run. It's kind of cool to be able to
- 1:03:05work with him and like, and, and I mean, he's like, he's the
- 1:03:07best. Like he just, he's just level
- 1:03:10headed dude, that like, you know what I mean?
- 1:03:11And he's just kind of used to be with bull crap.
- 1:03:13So it's kind of nice to be able to have him as a wall of like, I
- 1:03:17mean, I'm, you know, I'd be down for whatever that people are
- 1:03:19offering, but you gotta run it past my grandpa, you know what I
- 1:03:21mean? I don't even say that, you know,
- 1:03:22just past my advisor, you know, whatever, you know.
- 1:03:25But no, I just tossed my trains hot again.
- 1:03:29I'm sorry. Well, nobody's gonna look out
- 1:03:31for you the way your grandfather will.
- 1:03:32Yeah. Oh, but that's what I'm saying
- 1:03:34with styles was he was saying like, or my grandpa was asking
- 1:03:36like, no, does he need to be in Nashville and like and Styles,
- 1:03:39like here's the here's the image I have for cold.
- 1:03:42He said I want him to stay in Arizona, continue to be an
- 1:03:44Arizona cowboy. Yeah.
- 1:03:46And do his thing in Arizona and then we'll fly him out.
- 1:03:49We'll cut his music and then go back to Arizona and keep doing
- 1:03:51your thing. And I'm like, that's that's so
- 1:03:54you know what I mean? I'm an Arizona boy.
- 1:03:56Like, I don't, yeah, I could summer somewhere else, you know
- 1:03:58what I mean? But I.
- 1:04:00Can't we but. Who wouldn't, you know what I
- 1:04:01mean? But like in the winter time and
- 1:04:03there's no, I mean Arizona in my home, you know, I mean, I've
- 1:04:05lived in Kansas, I live in Utah, I lived in Oklahoma and it's
- 1:04:08like every time that first snow falls, usually they see my tail
- 1:04:12lights, you know what I mean? I'm like, I just don't do it,
- 1:04:14you know? I saw.
- 1:04:14People all the time. We have 60 days of hell, right?
- 1:04:17Yeah, for 10 months of like the perfect weather.
- 1:04:20Right. And that's what, yeah, when I'm
- 1:04:21living in, when I was living in Oklahoma, Kansas, like, you
- 1:04:24know, why the hell are they Why? Why you moving back to Arizona?
- 1:04:27You know, so hot. That I'm like, dude, have you?
- 1:04:29If you're not gone outside, it's 95 with 100 and 10110% humidity.
- 1:04:33Yeah, you know what I mean? And I was and and then you guys
- 1:04:35freeze your Dicks off all winter long, right?
- 1:04:38I get 65 and sunny and then we go to the lake for a few months,
- 1:04:41right? Like exactly.
- 1:04:42I don't know what you're talking.
- 1:04:43About you seen these mosquitoes? There Yeah man, these bugs out
- 1:04:46here something else yeah, they. Are you don't even dry off when
- 1:04:49you get out of the shower, You just put your clothes on.
- 1:04:51Yeah, man, by the time you get to the barn anyway.
- 1:04:53And like dry heat, I can, I mean, I can go all day and dry
- 1:04:56heat if I'm, if I'm drinking fluids and stuff.
- 1:04:58But like, if you're in that humidity, you get 4 hours of
- 1:05:01like good work and then you gotta go inside and like cool
- 1:05:04off. Yeah, rehydrate.
- 1:05:05I mean, like you just sweat it out.
- 1:05:07I mean, it's just miserable. But so so yeah.
- 1:05:12Not at high school. Went to auctioneering school
- 1:05:14then. Dude, you got a story?
- 1:05:16I know it's, it's been an interesting ride, that's for
- 1:05:19damn sure. And how old are you?
- 1:05:20I'm 25 right now. I'll be 26 in September, so just
- 1:05:23two months. Nice.
- 1:05:24Yeah, so I'll be. So you still got a lot of life
- 1:05:26to live. Got a lot of life to live.
- 1:05:28Yep. Hopefully you know.
- 1:05:30A lot of time to tell your story.
- 1:05:31I hope so, yeah. What what are like when you do
- 1:05:35write songs? How how is that process?
- 1:05:39I just feel like I don't. I've never written a song.
- 1:05:43Oh yeah, I'll. Be like.
- 1:05:43Nor does he remember any right, by the way.
- 1:05:45Yeah, that's, that's very true. So when you're sitting there
- 1:05:48like popping off all these songs and I'm saying, yeah, I don't
- 1:05:50know. OK, right.
- 1:05:52Even if you heard it this morning, he's still hey.
- 1:05:54Failed team making, brother, Yeah.
- 1:05:56Hey, but I could jam out though. That's right.
- 1:05:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:59I could I could like move my. Hips OK, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:03No, but like I just feel like it would just be like an easy
- 1:06:05process. But you hear all these country
- 1:06:08artists like having songs written for.
- 1:06:10Them. Yeah, and.
- 1:06:11So so how is it? How is it for you to write a
- 1:06:14song? It's kind of weird for me, like
- 1:06:17I I don't wake up every morning and like go to writing or like
- 1:06:20trying to write a song, You know, like like the Arizona,
- 1:06:23like go buckles, right, That one was weird.
- 1:06:25Go buckles was weird. Like we were at my buddy Koi's
- 1:06:27and I was drunk a little bit and he literally like played a
- 1:06:30progression. We pressed recording his on his
- 1:06:32phone and I just made those lyrics up on the spot, like the
- 1:06:35chorus and the first verse, like the first time I even sung it.
- 1:06:39So but that's not how it always goes.
- 1:06:40But like Arizona waves, I Arizona waves.
- 1:06:43I had that hook in my there's AI mean the hook for that song.
- 1:06:47I kind of got it in my head and I woke up 1 morning and like I
- 1:06:50wrote that song in like 45 minutes.
- 1:06:51I just went down and I just couldn't I couldn't get it out
- 1:06:53fast enough. Like it just was like coming,
- 1:06:55you know, quick and there was another one and that's how it
- 1:06:58was with the other one too. Like I just there's four that I
- 1:07:01wrote that were that I'll be recording and the two of them
- 1:07:03that I had wrote for me. Like, I don't know if you
- 1:07:04remember that neon merry go round song that I sang at
- 1:07:06Dylan's. You know who wrote that song?
- 1:07:08It's David Lee Murphy. Oh, wow.
- 1:07:10Dust on the bottle might be live dust down.
- 1:07:14Oh yeah, yeah, he wrote that song.
- 1:07:16So he wrote that song with styles and, and I said, I
- 1:07:21started singing it and and they were like, dude, like, do you
- 1:07:23want that song? So.
- 1:07:24So does like styles sometimes like feed you?
- 1:07:27He'll pitch me stuff all the time.
- 1:07:29Yeah. Like he just, I mean, he he he
- 1:07:31works for Warren. He was a signed songwriter for
- 1:07:33Warner Brothers for a long time. So like he writes, he writes a
- 1:07:36song a day. So sometimes it like, and he's
- 1:07:39got like hundreds in his deal that they've just done demos on.
- 1:07:41And he's like every once in a while he'll send me a song like,
- 1:07:43hey, what do you think about that?
- 1:07:44What do you think about that? You know, just just seeing if I
- 1:07:46like stuff, you know, and, and so far there's one that I that's
- 1:07:50called I prayed it that he wrote with another guy that I'm going
- 1:07:53to be recording, which I love. And I, yeah, I can't wait for
- 1:07:56everybody to hear that one, but I'll be recording that one.
- 1:08:01And, and and then that David Lee Murphy, the Neon Merry Go Round
- 1:08:06and Styles wrote that one too. And I can't remember what else
- 1:08:09there is. I don't think that's.
- 1:08:10I think there's the only two that I'm recording that aren't
- 1:08:12mine, but the other ones are all mine.
- 1:08:14When like he sends you a song, do you just go try it, try it
- 1:08:18out? He's.
- 1:08:18I mean, it's a full, it's a full demo.
- 1:08:20Like it's, it's, it's almost like a song you hear on the
- 1:08:23radio. Oh, so it's a finished product?
- 1:08:25Like, yeah, pretty much. So somebody else is singing it,
- 1:08:29Yeah. Somebody else is singing it.
- 1:08:30They've already they don't like master like fine-tuned anything.
- 1:08:32It's kind of a raw deal. But like I mean it to to
- 1:08:35somebody that doesn't know music, you'd hear that and go
- 1:08:38that should be on the radio, you know what I mean?
- 1:08:40Yeah. And he's got just hundreds of
- 1:08:41those, you know what I mean? So it's like, but you know,
- 1:08:43yeah, that one and the other one I, I really like.
- 1:08:45So I'm going to record those, you know, and.
- 1:08:51So you just got one song coming out on?
- 1:08:53August, on August 29th, it's going to be just gold buckles.
- 1:08:56Yeah. And the music video will be out.
- 1:08:58Everything will be out. Yeah.
- 1:08:59That wasn't, that was another thing of that song that I that
- 1:09:02was like another aspect of like things I didn't know.
- 1:09:04It was like the music video. I mean, again, like styles
- 1:09:09called in another favor from a homie.
- 1:09:10Like, you know, hey, this this kids, he's like, I really want
- 1:09:15this kid to go, you know, far. And and these guys cut me a
- 1:09:19price that I couldn't have even dreamed, you know, I mean,
- 1:09:22they're starting prices typically 40,050 thousand for a
- 1:09:25music video, you know what I mean?
- 1:09:26And we did it for a substantially less than that.
- 1:09:29Yeah. And then, you know, guys like
- 1:09:30Cowboy Hardware, Billy Cook's saddles.
- 1:09:32I don't know if you know Billy Cook's saddles.
- 1:09:34So Adam Trank is a friend of mine.
- 1:09:36He sent me a new saddle for that music video and he threw some
- 1:09:39money in and he got some guys together to help pitch in for
- 1:09:42that to to pay for it. And so just yeah, all the guys
- 1:09:48that came together. Thank you for those sponsors and
- 1:09:50everything. And, and check out.
- 1:09:52I mean, you can, you can buy Gabby Hardware and Boot Barn.
- 1:09:54I mean, they're everywhere, you know what I mean?
- 1:09:56And so, but, but doing that music video, I mean, we have, I
- 1:10:02mean, we, we did the brass tacks and my grandpa was on the
- 1:10:06camera, you know, yeah, even at one point.
- 1:10:09So we had like 3-4, three or four cameras going at all times.
- 1:10:12And I think by the end of it, we had 20 hours of footage, you
- 1:10:18know what I mean, that we had to go through and.
- 1:10:19Was it all done here? Yeah, all in Arizona and that
- 1:10:21see, that's the that's the idea, you know, it's it's all Arizona
- 1:10:24based and Arizona Cowboys, you know, and so team were open and
- 1:10:28then the bull riding and the bull fighting and all that
- 1:10:30stuff. We at Radcast would like to
- 1:10:33shout out Colton Mcmurdy's sponsors, Sierra Negra Farms in
- 1:10:35Buckeye, AZ, Cowboy Hardware and Billy Cook Saddles.
- 1:10:41The Radcast team would also like to shout out our sponsors Sunset

- 1:10:59conditioning needs. 602-390-3930 So when do you record next?
- 1:11:07When's that happening? I I'm not exactly sure on the
- 1:11:10dates yet, but we're probably going to shoot out there the
- 1:11:13week after the OR the OR the following week after the 29th.
- 1:11:17OK, and I'll go back out there and then in the first one went
- 1:11:20out there. We just did that one song.
- 1:11:22This time I'm getting 4-4 or five so.
- 1:11:25OK, so we're dropping on 29th, the 29th.
- 1:11:28Yep. OK And the name of the song is
- 1:11:31Go Buckles. Buckles.
- 1:11:33Yep. And you sprinkled a little bit
- 1:11:34of that on social media, so. Yeah, and, and honestly, like,
- 1:11:37it's kind of funny if you went through that whole deal and
- 1:11:39piece it together, you could piece together the whole song on
- 1:11:42all the clips that I. Tell the real 1.
- 1:11:43Yeah, no, but I, I mean, it'd be hella dude.
- 1:11:46It comes out in a week anyways. Whatever.
- 1:11:48But but yeah, I mean I, I've, I mean I've, I've, I've actually,
- 1:11:52what's that? Just read it.
- 1:11:54I can't read that. If I if I could, I would promise
- 1:11:59you. Hold on.
- 1:12:00I could. I could probably read it.
- 1:12:03I could read. I could read nothing.
- 1:12:07Oh, is it going to be on Apple Music and Spotify?
- 1:12:09Yeah, it would be. Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube.
- 1:12:14I've done everything. Yeah, it'll hit all platforms at
- 1:12:16once. Excellent.
- 1:12:17Yep. Awesome.
- 1:12:18Yep. Yep.
- 1:12:20Well man, let's let's do this again after you record your
- 1:12:23next. Yeah, 4 songs let's I'm super
- 1:12:25it's going. To be the the platform where we
- 1:12:27keep launching these things, yeah.
- 1:12:28Sweet. Yeah.
- 1:12:29So what's the next event? You're hey you.
- 1:12:31You know what would be cool? Yeah, no, but tell us.
- 1:12:35I want to know. It's pretty cool.
- 1:12:37I do want to know. Do you really?
- 1:12:39I I hold on now. I know.
- 1:12:41Now he's ready. We have.
- 1:12:43To prepare ourselves cool for you or cool for others.
- 1:12:48No, what would be cool is if we brought him out when we try to
- 1:12:50do like the rodeos. Heck yeah.
- 1:12:52Right. And like let him kind of
- 1:12:54interview these ropers and stuff.
- 1:12:55Like that? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:57Heck yeah, Heck yeah. That'd be fun.
- 1:12:59That's kind of our goal is to get to with, with my with.
- 1:13:04I'm working with a manager as far as my grandpa and all that.
- 1:13:06But his idea is let's start hitting these circuits, these
- 1:13:09PRCA circuits. Yeah, playing with those.
- 1:13:13So you ask the next what's up? Where am I playing at next?
- 1:13:16There's a PBR event. Well, it's not PBR sanctioned,
- 1:13:18but actually August or October 2nd through the 5th, there's a
- 1:13:23big bull riding out in Queen Creek and they're having a bunch
- 1:13:26of concerts and stuff like that. I'm playing in the arena before
- 1:13:30the pervs both nights. Let's go.
- 1:13:33So yeah, that would be a good one and that.
- 1:13:36Said October What? 2nd to the 5th and it's cowboy
- 1:13:41hardware is actually get they're sponsoring a portion of that as
- 1:13:43well, but it's a big it's a big bull run.
- 1:13:45They'll they're supposedly they're supposed to be 2020
- 1:13:48thousand, 30,000 people this deal.
- 1:13:50I wonder if Trev's gonna ride in that we'll have to talk to.
- 1:13:53There's a bunch of big concerts and that's like the that this is
- 1:13:55the first time they've been, they've done this event, but
- 1:13:58their idea for it is, is concerts in Bulls so awesome.
- 1:14:01Yeah, we'll see how I mean. So how many, how many singers
- 1:14:03will be there? I, I, I, I've, I I'm not sure.
- 1:14:06I, I I'm. I don't have all the details
- 1:14:08yet. But the only one that matters is
- 1:14:10you. I guess, yeah, I see.
- 1:14:12I'm not even playing on stage. Like they have a giant stage
- 1:14:14outside that that that a bunch of people will be playing on.
- 1:14:16I'm not even playing at that. I'm playing in in the arena
- 1:14:18right before the bull riding starts.
- 1:14:19Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'll play for that and then
- 1:14:22they'll open the gates, you know, so.
- 1:14:24We're we're gonna get a big old head of you.
- 1:14:26Yeah, you're ready. Like it?
- 1:14:27Yeah, we should. What are?
- 1:14:30They called fatheads or whatever.
- 1:14:31Yeah, hold up. Heck yeah.
- 1:14:32Yeah. That's awesome, man.
- 1:14:34So for anybody that wants to get in contact with you, it's like
- 1:14:40wants. To like play music I've got,
- 1:14:42I've got my website's just Colt Mcmurdy and you can just look
- 1:14:47that up and it'll it'll take you right.
- 1:14:49If you type in Colt Mcmurdy, ithinkits.com, it'll literally
- 1:14:52just you don't need, you only have to click on it.
- 1:14:54It'll take you right into my website and it'll have it has
- 1:14:57upcoming shows and events. It has how to book me.
- 1:15:00It has how to contact me OK, yeah, we'll.
- 1:15:03Tag all your social media in this.
- 1:15:04Yeah, and they'll tag my social media.
- 1:15:06You can always DM me. You can always, you can always
- 1:15:08direct message me on TikTok or whatever on Instagram, whatever
- 1:15:11you want to do. I'm not on Facebook too much but
- 1:15:14but I should be more but. Dude, Facebook's hard man.
- 1:15:17Yeah, I know. It's just like real analytical.
- 1:15:19They have it set up so weird. I I just it's TikTok, so user
- 1:15:24friendly and and so is Instagram yeah, you know what I mean I'll
- 1:15:28make a TikTok and then I'll literally just take that edit
- 1:15:30and just pop it over to Instagram and just yeah and post
- 1:15:34it. You know what I mean?
- 1:15:34So it's like it's just so easy for me to use, but social media
- 1:15:39has been great for me for sure. You know what I mean, I.
- 1:15:43You got a couple of videos of you roping that's like reached
- 1:15:46like 1,000,000 views. Yeah, they've they've done
- 1:15:48really good Instagram. I've there's a couple on there
- 1:15:51that are 3.42, you know, a million.
- 1:15:55And, but I mean, I, that was kind of our game plan was let's
- 1:15:57get, let's hammer the social media, you know, to get known
- 1:16:01there. And I, I mean, we went from 500
- 1:16:03followers to like 25,000 in a few months, you know what I
- 1:16:06mean? So it was, it's been good.
- 1:16:08But like, I mean, how do you not when you're just doing a muscle
- 1:16:11up onto a horse, you know what I mean?
- 1:16:13And I and I purposely start every video like that, like as
- 1:16:15long as I can keep your attention for five seconds, you
- 1:16:17know what I mean? That's all I need.
- 1:16:19Well, how many? You're a paraplegic.
- 1:16:24Yeah, Quadriplegic. Paraplegic.
- 1:16:27I don't know, you know what it's called.
- 1:16:28Honestly, I don't even know. I'm they tend to be.
- 1:16:30I'm partially partial and complete.
- 1:16:33OK, 'cause I still have movement and feeling, so it's like, I
- 1:16:35don't know why. Yeah, it'd be, it'd be partial
- 1:16:38and complete paralysis. OK, yeah, so I guess paraplegic
- 1:16:41would be the one. Yeah, I'm gonna say yeah.
- 1:16:42Quad would be 4. Might be that.
- 1:16:44Yeah. Quadriplegic be from the neck
- 1:16:45down. Oh, paraplegic be from the waist
- 1:16:47down. South Paraplegic.
- 1:16:47Paraplegic. Yeah, but they call it partially
- 1:16:49partial incomplete paralysis, but yeah.
- 1:16:53Well, after all that explanation, you're the only
- 1:16:55one, yeah, that I've seen. That's roping.
- 1:16:58Like, yeah, I've, I've only met one other guy and man, it's like
- 1:17:03I still have very good trunk, you know, like if I was like
- 1:17:08paralyzed completely, it'd be hard to rope.
- 1:17:10It really would be like just balance wise and everything
- 1:17:12'cause I still have really good trunk support in my hip flexors.
- 1:17:15I could still pull myself forward.
- 1:17:17I have to lean, my back muscles don't work very good.
- 1:17:19So I don't like I, if I my horse stops too soon, I mean, I'll
- 1:17:21slack her neck, you know. Yeah, but like the other guy
- 1:17:24that ropes, I mean, he's paralyzed.
- 1:17:26And I mean it's it's it's hectic watching.
- 1:17:29I mean, he all, he hammers him, but it's like, but it's like.
- 1:17:32But you you could kind of understand what's going.
- 1:17:34On Ohh yeah, for sure. I definitely have a better sense
- 1:17:37of it, but even then it's like, I don't, you know what I mean,
- 1:17:39'cause I still have muscles that he does.
- 1:17:41I mean I'm blessed, you know what I mean?
- 1:17:42I don't always look at it that way.
- 1:17:43Like it just could always be worse, dude, You know?
- 1:17:45I mean, you could complain all you want or you could just keep
- 1:17:48on keeping on, you know what I mean?
- 1:17:49Lifes hard, but it's not meant to be easy.
- 1:17:51I think that's, I think that's kind of the point of it.
- 1:17:53You know what I mean? Yeah, I think we're here to
- 1:17:54learn lessons and I tested. I don't think God puts trials in
- 1:17:57your life that you can't handle. Amen, man.
- 1:17:59Yeah, is so I've noticed all you wear is converse.
- 1:18:04Yeah, my Chuck llamas. Yeah, yes, Sir.
- 1:18:07That's like your thing. I I.
- 1:18:09Yeah, I I just, I don't know, I it's like I can't get boots on.
- 1:18:12I mean, I can, I have a pair that I can't get on, but they're
- 1:18:14just a pain in the ass to put. Yeah.
- 1:18:16Like, imagine your foot not working and then just like
- 1:18:18trying to slam it into a boot. Yeah.
- 1:18:19I mean, actually I just had Ariat just reached out to me and
- 1:18:22they just sent me a pair of boots that zipped down the back.
- 1:18:25Oh, so they like the zip all with the bottom down the back.
- 1:18:28I don't know, I just like my Chuck.
- 1:18:29My chucks. I yeah, I leave my chucks on.
- 1:18:32I it's so funny how much heat I get on Instagram and like social
- 1:18:36media just from like, well, yeah, yeah, bro.
- 1:18:38Like, well, like if you do, you realize how dangerous it is to
- 1:18:41be wearing shoes in the saddle. And I'm like, I'm tied into this
- 1:18:45horse right now, right? Like if my my foot going to my
- 1:18:48strip is the least of my work. Yeah, like did you see the?
- 1:18:50Horse. Yeah, I seat belt to it.
- 1:18:52If my horse goes down, I'm going down.
- 1:18:54Yeah, yeah, I just don't think about it.
- 1:18:56But like if my horse trips and like rolls?
- 1:18:59I'm going with. Them I'm screwed like most
- 1:19:00people like when they come off, they'll get a like they kind of
- 1:19:02fly away from their animal a little bit and they get out the
- 1:19:04way you. Know what that looks like?
- 1:19:06Yeah. Have you got that?
- 1:19:08I do. Oh, did you?
- 1:19:10Yeah, I, but I'm going down with the ship.
- 1:19:12I mean, that's just how it is. So I mean, I and and I'm, I'm my
- 1:19:16feet are also tied into it. So you're really right.
- 1:19:18You're not going anywhere. No, it's, it just is what it is.
- 1:19:21But it's easier to get my foot into a commerce and I just, I
- 1:19:23don't know, boy, I just like my commerce and that's.
- 1:19:25Cool, I like that man. That's like a cool little.
- 1:19:27Yeah, I I posted one video and I was like, tell someone, tell a
- 1:19:30commerce response from me and they got it had like 500,000.
- 1:19:33No shit news yeah, but commerce never.
- 1:19:35No, Yeah, yeah, Like you guys see the bust into the Western
- 1:19:39industry dog. Yeah, Commerce cowboy.
- 1:19:41Untapped market over here, right?
- 1:19:44There it is, man. There's like a huge market in
- 1:19:45the Western cold. Yeah, man.
- 1:19:46And I think it's growing like it's.
- 1:19:48Oh yeah, tremendously it. Cowboys back, yeah, You know
- 1:19:51what I mean? Cowboy is just it's back, you
- 1:19:53know what I mean? So.
- 1:19:54So it was country music, man. Like, yeah, it it has.
- 1:19:57About time. Amen.
- 1:19:58It's about time. I grew up on it.
- 1:20:00You know, it's funny to me. Like I think like Cowboys back
- 1:20:04and we were just we were talking earlier about like, you know,
- 1:20:07being able to say, like, you know, talk about God and express
- 1:20:09that kind of stuff. I think I think that's one of
- 1:20:11those things that comes with the cowboy way of life.
- 1:20:14Absolutely. So it's kind of I think that
- 1:20:15that kind of comes hand in hand and and I don't even think the
- 1:20:18people necessarily were one in the you know, like that wasn't
- 1:20:22the objective, but like because cowboy came back, it's like
- 1:20:25those are the traits and attributes that come with that
- 1:20:27lifestyle. You know what I mean?
- 1:20:28Or I mean, not everybody in the cowboy industry obviously is
- 1:20:31that way, but like. The majority the.
- 1:20:33Majority of it is that, I mean, it's it's Jesus focus, it's
- 1:20:36Jesus integrated and it's like it's OK to talk about that.
- 1:20:39It's important to talk. I mean, dude, you go like I was
- 1:20:42just in Oklahoma, me and my buddy took some bulls and Abbi
- 1:20:46bulls out. I don't know if you know Abbi
- 1:20:48bulls or it's like a, it's a whole event that they don't even
- 1:20:50have bull riders on them. They have a, it's a dummy box.
- 1:20:52So they put a little like weight deal on their back.
- 1:20:55One year old division, 2 year old division.
- 1:20:56It's all the upcoming bucking balls.
- 1:20:58OK, but you just bucked the ball with no rider and they and they
- 1:21:02judge the ball that way. So we drove all the way out
- 1:21:04there and then we were in Texas for that deal too.
- 1:21:07I mean, this is a event that people, I mean, first place is
- 1:21:10winning 50,000. They sat every damn contestant
- 1:21:13down and they did a freaking a sermon before the whole deal
- 1:21:17started. I mean, they're in the Bible
- 1:21:18Belt. Yeah, they're in.
- 1:21:19The Bible Belt for sure, but that's cool shit that I like
- 1:21:22seeing, you know what I mean? I I like it.
- 1:21:24Let's focus it out. Let's start with a prayer.
- 1:21:26Yeah, that's the culture. Let's remember why we're let's
- 1:21:28remember why we're even here on earth and what we're and why we
- 1:21:31get to do the things that we get to do.
- 1:21:33That's what. And then let's have some fun,
- 1:21:34you know? That's like kind of what draw us
- 1:21:36into it is like, not only is it exciting, right?
- 1:21:40But yeah, I mean, the, the cowboy Western culture, it's,
- 1:21:44you know, it's God family. Really true.
- 1:21:47Country. Yeah, you know.
- 1:21:48How better can you raise your family exactly?
- 1:21:50Right. Exactly.
- 1:21:51You know what I mean? Like what?
- 1:21:52What? Especially when you start a
- 1:21:53family. Like what?
- 1:21:54What virtues? What attributes do you want to
- 1:21:55have? Yeah, You know what I mean.
- 1:21:57Do I want to do I want to have a wife I'm worried about, you
- 1:21:59know, do I want to have kids that have no respect?
- 1:22:02Do I have more worry about them mouthing off to.
- 1:22:05You know what I mean? Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:22:06Or do I want to have attributes in my home that are going to be
- 1:22:10set my kids up for success? You know what I mean?
- 1:22:13Especially like that. I think, I think that I see kids
- 1:22:16all the time now, especially my age.
- 1:22:18I mean, gosh, they're just so damn rude to people.
- 1:22:19And it's like, and they have they, I mean, a woman, I take my
- 1:22:23hat off and I, and that's just the way I was raised.
- 1:22:25You know what I mean? It's yes, Sir.
- 1:22:26It's no Sir. It's yes ma'am.
- 1:22:27It's no ma'am. And it, even if you're wrong,
- 1:22:29it's fine. It doesn't matter.
- 1:22:31You know what I mean? And it's, I mean, that was a
- 1:22:33hard thing for me to learn for a long time.
- 1:22:34Don't get me wrong. I've never been perfect, you
- 1:22:36know? Don't get me wrong, I was.
- 1:22:38I was damn sure. But now here's a product, right?
- 1:22:41Yeah, you know what I mean. But you always come full circle,
- 1:22:44you know? Yeah.
- 1:22:45And you remember where you come from and it's.
- 1:22:47And then we get to a certain age, you're like, I got people
- 1:22:50that respect my parents, like people that respect my
- 1:22:51grandparents and, and they look at me as a product of them.
- 1:22:54Absolutely, You know what I mean?
- 1:22:55So it's like, how do I want them to, how do I want my parents to
- 1:22:58be honored? You know what I mean?
- 1:22:59And if you, if you're really wanting to sit in the Bible, you
- 1:23:01know, honor that father and that mother, you know what I mean?
- 1:23:03So if you're trying to honor your father and your mother,
- 1:23:05don't ever put it, you know, my dad, I carry my dad's last name,
- 1:23:08you know what I mean? I don't ever want to do nothing
- 1:23:09to tarnish that that name. You know what I mean?
- 1:23:11So. Yeah, and I, it's funny, you
- 1:23:14know, mentioning that, right? My son will be the last to carry
- 1:23:19the Beauver last name. Yeah.
- 1:23:21And it's one of those things where, no, I remember in the
- 1:23:24beginning I was like, I wanted a daughter first, right?
- 1:23:26Just 'cause I grew up with women and then we had my son, it was
- 1:23:29one of those moments where I realized, like, the generation
- 1:23:31carries on, right? The name carries on.
- 1:23:33And there's a lot of, there's a lot of responsibility to that.
- 1:23:36Yeah. And what you're talking about is
- 1:23:37like growing up in a way of life that puts, you know, God, family
- 1:23:41and country as a priority. Not being a knucklehead.
- 1:23:44Now, don't get me wrong, we're all knuckleheads.
- 1:23:46We're all just. Dumb.
- 1:23:47We're, yeah. I mean, we're, I mean, that's
- 1:23:49the human nature. Yeah.
- 1:23:50But the fact that you stay true to who you are and that you, you
- 1:23:53know, what you said makes, you know, what makes me hopeful for
- 1:23:57the generation is that I'm a reflection of my family, right?
- 1:24:01And I want to make sure that I show.
- 1:24:02Well, yeah. Right.
- 1:24:04And not not as a facade, but like, I truly, this is who I am
- 1:24:07and this is where I come from. It's just it's good to hear
- 1:24:11because there's not enough of that.
- 1:24:13Right. And not that there isn't good
- 1:24:14people that are out of the restaurant industry, but just as
- 1:24:16a whole, you know, I think it's a good.
- 1:24:18Yeah, yeah. It's a wholesome lifestyle.
- 1:24:21Yeah, and what's what's good to hear too, is like somebody like
- 1:24:23you, right? Like you got, you're where
- 1:24:26you're going in your life, you're going to have a lot of
- 1:24:29influence on people, you know, I mean, especially like the
- 1:24:32younger generation that's coming up after you too, right?
- 1:24:35So hearing that you have those values, those core values with
- 1:24:38your family and just, you know, holding that pride about your
- 1:24:41last name, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:24:43Like that's awesome. Man, yeah, they asked me too.
- 1:24:45Like you want to. I've been asked what name you're
- 1:24:49going to go by on stage. I'm going to go with my name,
- 1:24:52you know? Yeah, obviously, you know, I
- 1:24:53mean, it's just the name I wanted people to know.
- 1:24:56Yeah. So be proud of it, that's all.
- 1:24:58Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, I.
- 1:25:01Enjoy. Awesome.
- 1:25:02Well, we really appreciate you coming on here.
- 1:25:04The heck Yeah. Thanks for having me.
- 1:25:05Yeah, it's pretty. Great to get to know you.
- 1:25:08I know I'm looking forward to. What'll be cool is now that we
- 1:25:10all know each other, we can all hang out.
- 1:25:11Yeah, Heck yeah, man, I'm sure there's stuff we can get to you
- 1:25:14next time that we didn't get to you this time.
- 1:25:16I don't even know, but absolutely heck yeah.
- 1:25:19That's awesome. Kick ass.
- 1:25:20Well, we really appreciate you being on Colton and we're
- 1:25:22looking forward to hearing the soundtrack drop or the.
- 1:25:26Yep, the sound record. Yeah, August, 29th August. 29th
- 1:25:30August. 29th TikTok. Instagram.
- 1:25:33Yeah. Colt Mcmurdy music.
- 1:25:35Colt Mcmurdy music on both. Yeah, excellent.
- 1:25:37So look for me there too. Awesome.
- 1:25:39Alright, well thank you so much for being on.
- 1:25:41Heck yeah, guys, Sir, it's been real.
- 1:25:57me.
