- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 87 already! Lucas, what are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to a temple. Have you ever been to a Chinese temple? Luna: Oh, I've walked by them, but I never knew what to say inside. This is perfect. Lucas: Right. So the first phrase is 'to pray to the gods' or 'worship' — 拜神. Listen: 拜神. Luna: 拜神. 拜神. Is that like bowing? Lucas: Exactly. You go to the temple to 拜神. So if you say 'I want to pray,' you can say 我想拜神. Luna: 我想拜神. I want to pray. Got it. Lucas: Next: to burn incense. 上香. Say it with me: 上香. Luna: 上香. 上香. That sounds like lighting those long sticks. Lucas: Yes. You hold the incense and bow. So you could say 我想上香 — I want to burn incense. Luna: 我想上香. That's a whole sentence now. I love it. Lucas: Last one: to make a wish. 許願. Try it: 許願. Luna: 許願. 許願. Like closing your eyes and wishing for something? Lucas: Exactly. You make a wish after praying. So you could say 我想許願. Luna: 我想許願. Okay, I have three phrases: 拜神, 上香, 許願. Lucas: Great. Let's practice all three in a mini scene. Imagine you're at a temple. You walk in and say...? Luna: 我想拜神. Then you light incense: 我想上香. And then you make a wish: 我想許願. Lucas: Perfect. You just did a whole temple visit in Cantonese. Luna: Oh, that feels good. I could actually do that. Lucas: And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Cantonese, there's a way to keep it going. Luna: Yeah, some listeners chip in monthly at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's how we stay ad-free. Lucas: Totally. No pressure, but every bit helps us keep making these episodes. Luna: So if you're enjoying temple phrases or any of it, consider it. Lucas: Anyway, let's wrap up. We have 拜神, 上香, 許願. Try using them next time you visit a temple. Luna: I know I will. Thanks, Lucas. See you next time! Lucas: Bye bye! Keep practicing.
