Transcript
- Lucas: Hi everyone, welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Last time we talked about Danish Christmas traditions, and I still have a craving for risalamande. Lucas: Oh, that's so good. Well, today we're adding some color to your Danish vocabulary. Luna: Colors! I love colors. Let me guess... 'rød' is red? Lucas: Exactly! Rød. Like 'en rød bil' — a red car. Luna: Rød. En rød bil. Okay. Lucas: Now, 'blå' is blue. For example, 'en blå himmel' — a blue sky. Luna: Blå. En blå himmel. That's pretty. Lucas: And 'grøn' is green. Like 'græsset er grønt' — the grass is green. Luna: Grøn. Græsset er grønt. I think I've got that. Lucas: You're doing great. Now, 'gul' is yellow. 'Solen er gul' — the sun is yellow. Luna: Gul. Solen er gul. That one's easy. Lucas: And finally, 'hvid' is white. 'Sneen er hvid' — the snow is white. Luna: Hvid. Sneen er hvid. But wait, isn't 'hvid' pronounced with a kind of soft 'v'? Lucas: Yes, exactly. Like 'hvee' with a soft 'th' at the end. Hvid. Luna: Hvid. Okay, I'll practice that one. Lucas: Let's try a little scene. I'll point at something, and you say the color in Danish. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Lucas: Your shirt is... Luna: Grøn! Lucas: Yes! Your shirt is grøn. And my notebook is... Luna: Blå? Lucas: Exactly! Blå. You nailed it. Luna: Hmm, I'm thinking about how we use these colors in real life. Like, if I was looking for a red dress, I'd say 'en rød kjole'? Lucas: Perfect. En rød kjole. And if you wanted a blue one, 'en blå kjole'. Luna: That's so useful. You know, Fexingo helps me make actual progress with this language. I love that. Lucas: I'm glad to hear that. And we deliberately keep the episodes ad-free so anyone can learn without interruptions. Luna: Yeah, if you want to support that choice, the link is buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It really helps. Lucas: Absolutely. So, back to colors. Let's practice more. What color is a banana? Luna: Gul! Lucas: And snow? Luna: Hvid. Lucas: And a fire truck? Luna: Rød. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's do one more round. Repeat after me: rød. Luna: Rød. Lucas: Blå. Luna: Blå. Lucas: Grøn. Luna: Grøn. Lucas: Gul. Luna: Gul. Lucas: Hvid. Luna: Hvid. Lucas: Fantastic. Now, put them together. Say 'the sun is yellow' in Danish. Luna: Solen er gul. Lucas: The grass is green. Luna: Græsset er grønt. Lucas: Ooh, careful. 'Grønt' with a 't' because 'græs' is neuter. But you said it right! Luna: Ah, right. Grønt. I'll remember that. So adjectives change form based on gender? Lucas: Yes, exactly. But we'll save that for another episode. For now, focus on the basic colors. Luna: Okay. So, to recap: rød, blå, grøn, gul, hvid. Lucas: Perfect. Now you can describe things around you in Danish. Practice with objects in your room. Luna: I will! Tak, Lucas. Lucas: Det var så lidt. Thanks for joining us today on Learn Danish with Fexingo. Luna: Practice these colors, and we'll see you next time. Hej hej! Lucas: Hej hej!
