- 0:00The spiritual development of the individual seeker is not
- 0:04something that can be measured or defined in terms of the
- 0:08intellect or understood by specific results as sought by
- 0:12the vital nature, nor can it be certified by various physical
- 0:17attainments, capacities that exceed the normal status of the
- 0:21external being. These outward results belong to
- 0:25the external being, the development of the mind, the
- 0:29emotions, the vital nature, the physical body.
- 0:34Through training, discipline and ongoing effort, these things can
- 0:38show their development in concrete ways.
- 0:42The development of the spiritual capacities is, however, not
- 0:46always easily visible and certainly not quantifiable by
- 0:51our normal yardsticks that we apply to the external
- 0:54capacities. Yoga, the process by which the
- 0:58spiritual seeker consciously and systematically cultivates the
- 1:03spiritual growth of the being, takes place inwardly, silently,
- 1:08and in many cases incrementally over time.
- 1:13Spiritual capacity is evidenced by a wideness and inclusiveness,
- 1:19by the development of understanding that is not
- 1:21exclusive or dogmatic. Of an emotional being that is
- 1:26embracing without being possessive.
- 1:29By a vital being that is powerful in action but not
- 1:33self-centered or acquisitive for individual possession.
- 1:38By a physical being which grows in the strength of bearing the
- 1:41force of the spiritual consciousness without breaking
- 1:45down and spilling it. The inner spiritual being which
- 1:50Fioro Bindo calls the psychic being, is characterized not by
- 1:56its outward achievements but by its focus on and turning of the
- 2:00nature and its actions towards the divine.
- 2:04It develops aspiration, consecration and self giving as
- 2:10the process of its development. The growth of the inner flame,
- 2:15the Mystic fire, is the sign of the psychic beings increasing
- 2:19influence on the being, Fioro Bindo notes quote at a certain
- 2:26stage in the Yoga, when the mind is sufficiently quieted and no
- 2:30longer supports itself at every step on the sufficiency of its
- 2:34mental certitudes. When the vital has been steadied
- 2:38and subdued, and is no longer constantly insistent on its own
- 2:42rash will, demand and desire. When the physical has been
- 2:47sufficiently altered not to bury altogether the inner flame under
- 2:51the mass of its outwardness, obscurity, or inertia, an inmost
- 2:57being hidden within and felt only in its rare influences, is
- 3:02able to come forward and illumine the rest, and take up
- 3:07the lead of the sadhna. Its character is A1 pointed
- 3:11orientation towards the Divine, or the highest 1 pointed and yet
- 3:17plastic in action and movement. It does not create a rigidity of
- 3:22direction like the one pointed intellect, or a bigotry of the
- 3:26regnant idea or impulse like the one pointed vital force.
- 3:32It is at every moment and with a supple sureness that it points
- 3:36the way to the truth, automatically distinguishes the
- 3:40right from the false, extricates the Divine or godward movement
- 3:44from the clinging mixture of the undivine.
- 3:47Its action is like a Searchlight showing up all that has to be
- 3:52changed in the nature. It has in it a flame of will,
- 3:56insisting on perfection, on an alchemic transmutation of all
- 4:02the inner and outer existence. It sees the divine essence
- 4:07everywhere, but rejects the mere mask and the disguising figure.
- 4:12It insists on truth, on will and strength and mastery, on joy and
- 4:18love and beauty, but on a truth of abiding knowledge that
- 4:22surpasses the mere practical momentary truth of the ignorance
- 4:27on an inward joy, and not on mere vital pleasure.
- 4:31For it prefers rather a purifying suffering and sorrow
- 4:35to degrading satisfactions. On love winged upward and not
- 4:39tied to the stake of egoistic craving, or with its feet sunk
- 4:44in the mire. On beauty restored to its
- 4:47priesthood of interpretation of the Eternal, on strength and
- 4:52will and mastery as instruments not of the ego but of the
- 4:56Spirit. Its will is for the divinization
- 4:59of life, the expression through it of a higher truth, its
- 5:03dedication to the Divine and the Eternal.
