- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Episode 123, can you believe it? Lucas: I know, right? Feels like just yesterday we were learning dim sum phrases. Luna: Oh, I still use '我要呢個' every time I go out to eat. Works like a charm. Lucas: That's awesome. Today, we're going back to the night market — but this time, we're learning how to bargain. Luna: Oh, bargaining! I love that. So we're not just buying, we're negotiating? Lucas: Exactly. You know how in Episode 119 we learned '呢個幾多錢' and '好貴'? Luna: Yeah, 'this is expensive' — I remember that one. Lucas: Well, today we take it a step further. First phrase: 太貴. That means 'too expensive.' Say it with me: 太貴. Luna: 太貴. Taai gwai. Too expensive. Lucas: Perfect. Now imagine you see a bracelet for a hundred dollars, and you think it's too much. You say: 太貴. Luna: 太貴. Yeah, that's a good one. What's next? Lucas: Next: 平啲啦. That means 'cheaper please' or 'make it cheaper.' 平啲啦. Luna: 平啲啦. Peng di la. Cheaper please. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to ask politely 'can you make it cheaper,' you say: 可唔可以平啲. Luna: 可唔可以平啲. Ho m ho yi peng di? Can you make it cheaper? That's super useful. Lucas: Right! And if the price is really good, you can say: 好抵. That means 'what a bargain' or 'good deal.' 好抵. Luna: 好抵. Hou dai. I hope I get to say that a lot. Lucas: Me too. And one more: 平少少. That means 'a little cheaper.' 平少少. Luna: 平少少. Peng siu siu. A little cheaper. Okay, let me try them all in a mini scene. So I see a T-shirt I like, and the vendor says it's 200 dollars. I say: 太貴! 可唔可以平啲? And he says, okay, 180? I say: 平少少啦, 150? And he says yes! I say: 好抵! Lucas: Nailed it! That's exactly how it works. You're a natural bargainer. Luna: Thanks! So let's practice them once more. 太貴. Lucas: 太貴. Luna: 平啲啦. Lucas: 平啲啦. Luna: 可唔可以平啲. Lucas: 可唔可以平啲. Luna: 好抵. Lucas: 好抵. Luna: 平少少. Lucas: 平少少. And remember, tone is everything. Keep it friendly and smile. Luna: Yeah, a smile goes a long way. Next time you're at a market, try using 太貴 or 平啲啦. Even if you don't get a discount, you'll impress the vendor. Lucas: For sure. Practice these until we meet again. Thanks for learning with us! Luna: Bye bye! 拜拜!
