- 0:00This movie was
- 0:00to where it doesn't
- 0:00matter anymore.
- 0:01it was too confusing. Like you think a kid
- 0:04Yeah.
- 0:04you think Andy understood any of that that was happening?
- 0:07I
- 0:08No.
- 0:08don't think I understood it.
- 0:10Hello and welcome back to Inside Quotes,
- 0:12the show where my brother and I rewatch,
- 0:14review, and relive the staples of our childhood.

- 0:21And with me today is my older brother Jonathan.
- 0:23Jonathan, welcome back to the show.
- 0:25Quack, everybody. It's great to be back here on Inside Quotes.
- 0:29And I just have to announce here,
- 0:31we've got our first sponsor here,
- 0:33Cowboy Crunchies. ~ Yeah,
- 0:35What? This is a cowboy crunchies production?
- 0:38yeah, sponsored by Cowboy Crunchies.
- 0:41This episode of ~ Inside Quotes.
- 0:43No, this here is a present that Jeremy got me.
- 0:46for those that are listening, yep.
- 0:48Me, your brother. ~ okay.
- 0:48Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:50You'll have to check us out on YouTube,
- 0:52but
- 0:53We we made a McKay's trip recently.
- 0:55A little cool, like movie used movies bookstore,
- 0:59and
- 0:59Huge. It's the best place ever.
- 1:01and we found this Toy Story Two Disney store lithograph here.
- 1:07And it's got it's got Woody, Jesse,
- 1:09Yeah.
- 1:09Bullseye
- 1:10sitting down watching Woody's Roundup.
- 1:13And I've I've already got a frame for it.
- 1:15I haven't hung it up yet. But ~ this was a gift from
- 1:17That's awesome. Arguably one
- 1:19of my favorite frames
- 1:21of the whole movie. Like that's
- 1:22Yeah, it's so great.
- 1:24such a good one.
- 1:26So I just wanted to to show that off on the podcast,
- 1:30maybe hang it up here at some point,
- 1:31but
- 1:32Well, I've got a gift too, but it's not necessarily it's not from you,
- 1:39but it's not necessarily even Toy Story related other than that it's purple.
- 1:43But I got a purple toolbox,
- 1:47miniature toolbox,
- 1:49Mm.
- 1:50from my brother in law, who I was a groomsman in his wedding
- 1:55Mm. Mm-hmm.
- 1:56recently. ~ and he got everybody tiny toolboxes and he like
- 2:00Y'all can go back and get any color you want.
- 2:03And ~ they had just came out with a purple one,
- 2:06so I thought having a a nice purple toolbox would go really cool
- 2:13on this set.
- 2:14Yeah, that's awesome.
- 2:15Not as good as the one I got you,
- 2:17but I'm not trying to brag. But
- 2:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:23Anyways, Jonathan Infinity Awaits.
- 2:26'Cause this week we are talking about the one Disney owned movie franchise where
- 2:31the protagonist played by Chris Evans plays an older soldier who somehow lives
- 2:37for over a hundred years and yet is still in his prime,
- 2:39frozen in time.
- 2:44I think I know where you're going with this.
- 2:48Tell me Yup Same exact character.
- 2:49Johnny Storm from Fantastic Four.
- 2:51Same character, right?
- 2:54Yep.
- 2:57Wasn't Disney at the same time.
- 2:59Mm-hmm.
- 3:00But yeah, that there's a lot of similarities between here and that.
- 3:03There is. I I noticed another one ~
- 3:03Okay.
- 3:06to that. Are we just going straight for that?
- 3:08You know? We're we're we're
- 3:09Do it, I guess.
- 3:10gonna be talking, just to give the the listeners a little little roadmap
- 3:14for where we're going. We we are gonna talk about Toy Story spin off,
- 3:18~ shorts, specials, things
- 3:20Yes.
- 3:21like that, which will include ~ the two two thousand twenty
- 3:25two film Lightyear starring Chris Evans.
- 3:27that will be our Yeah. Yes,
- 3:28And we will be putting that one to the test,
- 3:31right? Yeah.
- 3:31the
- 3:32IQ test segment.
- 3:33~ but while we're going out of order,
- 3:36might as well just get our thoughts.
- 3:38I just watched this movie. I just finished watching it.
- 3:40Yeah.
- 3:40I didn't
- 3:41see this in theaters. ~
- 3:43Yeah.
- 3:44but I did notice I one thing I thought about as far as Captain America connections
- 3:49with Chris Evans is I I thought 'cause there was the character that
- 3:52was like his partner, that like she grew and got old,
- 3:56but then like he partnered up with like the granddaughter.
- 3:58Right.
- 4:00And I felt like didn't that happen in Captain America too?
- 4:02Like like
- 4:03Peggy Carter got old and then he like teamed up with h her niece in civil
- 4:08war or something like that. Like
- 4:09Yeah.
- 4:10it so it was like another another connection I noticed.
- 4:14I wasn't confident enough to bring that one up,
- 4:16but yeah, that makes sense. Yeah,
- 4:19that's crazy.
- 4:20And then he becomes an old, you know,
- 4:22just like you're saying. Yeah.
- 4:23Spoilers
- 4:23Yeah.
- 4:24for endgame.
- 4:25This is like Marvel. This just came out this came
- 4:31out after Endgame, so they can't hide.
- 4:32Yeah. Yeah. Interesting.
- 4:33So I don't
- 4:36know. Choice. But this does answer the question,
- 4:41like, if I wanted to see a Marvel movie be Pixar.
- 4:46It's like if you
- 4:51made it with AI. Like he typed in,
- 4:54~ make this Captain America but like as Buzz Lightyear.
- 4:59Maybe that's a good thing. People love this movie,
- 5:03I've heard.
- 5:05Maybe. We'll we'll put it
- 5:07to the test. Yeah.
- 5:08We'll put it to the test. We'll see how that is.
- 5:09But yeah.
- 5:12let's go ahead and do our fantasy box office updates though.
- 5:16~ because there's been some there's been some s some shifts.
- 5:16Alright. How has Toy Story Five been doing,
- 5:20pal? Okay.
- 5:24Toy Story Five has done well. You're you're in the you're in the green on that one.
- 5:29A
- 5:30So here's our our league. Jeremy's actually in the league lead right
- 5:34now with eighty nine point six million.
- 5:36Toy
- 5:37Let's go.
- 5:38Story Five, ~ it's made a profit of a hundred and sixty million at this point.
- 5:44It's almost at eight hundred million gross,
- 5:47so that's good.
- 5:50Not quite a billion
- 5:50~
- 5:51yet.
- 5:54But here's here's what has tanked me so far is Moana opened up this weekend.
- 5:58Yeah.
- 6:00And I mean, it just came out, so there's like no numbers on this.
- 6:03Yeah, yeah.
- 6:03So right
- 6:04now I'm like negative six hundred million because of Moana.
- 6:08Please nobody go out and see Moana.
- 6:11You've already seen it and it's better.
- 6:11So ~
- 6:15my my minions has has gotten a little bit of a eleven million profit.
- 6:19That's good. That's good. ~
- 6:19Okay. Not bad, not bad.
- 6:23I yeah, I don't think I've had great picks 'cause Supergirl,
- 6:26that was kind of a flop also. ~
- 6:28I kinda flopped, yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 6:31so I mean really obsession is the one that has been driving all of my
- 6:36Yeah.
- 6:37profitability anyway.
- 6:38I think you'll get some in them with the Odyssey and
- 6:41Yeah, hoping so.
- 6:44Spider Man.
- 6:45But you've actually had a few a few good p picks here,
- 6:48like profit wise.
- 6:49How's Young Washington
- 6:50doing since that came out? No.
- 6:52I saw that movie, did I tell you?
- 6:53I I saw it.
- 6:54Was
- 6:54it good?
- 6:56It was okay. Like I I
- 6:57Yeah.
- 6:58was entertained by it and I enjoyed it.
- 7:00It's not a great movie. ~ but if you just wanna see some some young Washington
- 7:06~ patriotic propaganda,
- 7:09this is this is for you.
- 7:10Hey, on the two hundred fiftieth?
- 7:13I learned something. I didn't know much about like the
- 7:16Really?
- 7:16early yo ~ George Washington life,
- 7:19so yeah.
- 7:19I actually watched
- 7:20a documentary about him recently.
- 7:24I guess gearing up for if I were to ever see this show.
- 7:29But ~ but yeah.
- 7:34I heard they were giving out free tickets so on July fourth.
- 7:37Like if you went on July
- 7:38'Cause it's it's an angel yeah.
- 7:39fourth, you could see it for free.
- 7:41Which I feel like that changes the
- 7:46authenticity of the box office profits.
- 7:49Well, so
- 7:50yes and no. They're it's an Angel Studios thing,
- 7:53so they're doing this thing where if you go see it and you enjoyed it,
- 7:56pay it forward to someone else kind of thing.
- 7:58Yeah.
- 7:59So I don't know how all that works.
- 8:01it's actually done like it was a apparently it was a twenty million budget.
- 8:06It's made twenty six, but it has to do like a little bit more,
- 8:10you know, to to really make back the marketing costs.
- 8:14So But I've already saw they've already they've greenlit it.
- 8:18sequel, you know. It's George Washington seventeen seventeen seventy six,
- 8:22so
- 8:22Okay.
- 8:24yeah.
- 8:24Young Washington, middle aged Washington,
- 8:27Big Bang Theory. Then they'll do a side
- 8:29Mm-hmm. But everyone
- 8:32of Georgie and Martha.
- 8:37Yeah, it's it wasn't terrible.
- 8:39The acting wasn't like that great,
- 8:41but it did have some big names in it,
- 8:43like Andy Circus
- 8:43Yeah.
- 8:44was in it, Kelsey Grammar showed up,
- 8:46Ben Kingsley. Ben Kingsley was in it.
- 8:49Yeah, I saw him in the trailer for it,
- 8:50So yeah.
- 8:51so Hey, I'll see any
- 8:53presidential movie.
- 8:55Yeah, I mean if you're I know you're you love that kind of history anyway,
- 8:59so I think you would enjoy it at least.
- 9:01I don't know how accurate it is,
- 9:04but
- 9:06So I'm finally in the lead.
- 9:08Yeah. But yeah.
- 9:10Right, well let's
- 9:11get on with this movie. We've got some history and fun facts,
- 9:15not a lot, just covering the ~ the main Easter eggs and just the simple fun facts.
- 9:20this movie came out in twenty twenty two.
- 9:23It's written and directed by Angus McLean.
- 9:26~ I've never seen him before
- 9:31in a Pixar
- 9:31Well he's
- 9:32movie.
- 9:32I I wasn't really that familiar either,
- 9:34but he's been with Pixar for a long time.
- 9:37I mean,
- 9:37Okay.
- 9:37since pretty early on. Just kind of ~ you know,
- 9:42as an animator, story artist, kinda that kind of thing.
- 9:44Kinda
- 9:45Mm-hmm.
- 9:45moved up a little bit. I think he's on their like ~ brain trust senior
- 9:52creative team or something now,
- 9:53but Actually I don't think he is anymore.
- 9:57I I have enough to I think after this came out,
- 10:00him
- 10:01I read this on Wikipedia just now,
- 10:03whether it's true.
- 10:04Yeah.
- 10:04~ him and Galen Sessman. If you remember Galen Sessman,
- 10:09We were very fond of Galen.
- 10:09she
- 10:11she famously restored the edit of Toy Story Two when it was accidentally deleted.
- 10:16Yeah.
- 10:17neither of them work at Pixar anymore and people feel like it's
- 10:21due to their involvement in this movie.
- 10:23~ no.
- 10:24Like they were involved in the the layoffs in I don't know,
- 10:27a couple of years ago, but
- 10:30~ but he did direct some of the like the Pixar shorts.
- 10:33~ I think the small fry one that we watched,
- 10:38I think he did that one. ~
- 10:38Really? Okay. I loved that one.
- 10:42That was I think that was my favorite.
- 10:43~ Yeah. Mhm.
- 10:44Okay. We'll talk about that soon before the test,
- 10:48but yeah.
- 10:49But yeah, he had been with the company for a while,
- 10:51so I'll let you keep
- 10:52going.
- 10:52Nice, nice, nice. Well, it's rated P G.
- 10:55The tagline on the poster says Infinity Awaits.
- 10:58It's one hour and forty five minutes long and it's on Disney Plus
- 11:03as of this recording. As for Easter eggs,
- 11:06you could see the Luxolamp constellation as he's going through space.
- 11:12the Pizza Planet truck makes his appearance on the base after they've
- 11:18crashed and they've started built Yeah.
- 11:20I had to look it up. It
- 11:22wa that was hard to see. I I wouldn't have caught catch that on the Yeah.
- 11:23It is. I didn't I didn't catch that one either.
- 11:25I looked all these up.
- 11:26Yeah.
- 11:29There apparently I'll start saying allegedly
- 11:31Mm-hmm.
- 11:32allegedly there is a green alien statue on the guy who replaced Hawthorne.
- 11:37His
- 11:38Mm-hmm.
- 11:38name was
- 11:42I don't know
- 11:43The the the big guy in charge after Hawthorne died.
- 11:47No. Anyways,
- 11:48Zerg? I don't know.
- 11:51the new general
- 11:53that w like shut down the program.
- 11:55Anyways,
- 11:55~ Mm-hmm.
- 11:56there's a green alien statue on his desk,
- 11:58or on his bookshelf. And next yeah,
- 12:00the guy in the post credit scene?
- 12:01No.
- 12:02yeah, yeah.
- 12:04And that guy is also holding a aquarium mug from Finding Dory
- 12:11from that aquarium.
- 12:11okay. Mm-hmm.
- 12:13He also has a Bernie trophy from ~ Wally.
- 12:17So And then as far as the special Easter egg for the next movie,
- 12:23I believe it is Wade from Elemental,
- 12:28Yeah, that's what I saw. Yeah.
- 12:29the the the water guy, but
- 12:29Mm-hmm.
- 12:31he's in it's like a Wade water bottle in the vending machine that you could see.
- 12:35It's like the on the label. It says Wade.
- 12:35So Yeah.
- 12:37Yeah.
- 12:38It's very, very hard to see, but yeah.
- 12:41I think yeah,
- 12:42these were really ones you had to like search out and put the
- 12:46Yeah.
- 12:47pieces together, I feel like. They weren't as obvious this go round.
- 12:51Also, did you know that the oxygen tanks in the movie are actually scream canisters
- 12:57used in Monsters Inc.?
- 12:59I ~ I I did look that up and I did comment while we were watching this that like
- 13:06the Zerg bots or whatever, that met
- 13:08Uh-huh.
- 13:09that yellow metal was like it seemed like the same like metal consistency
- 13:13of those scream canisters. So yeah.
- 13:14Yeah. Probably molded down from it.
- 13:19Or the twenty three nineteen. It's like a blend of those two things in Monsters Inc.
- 13:22Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 13:23Whatever those C D A. Sorry. Yeah,
- 13:26C D A. what else do we got here?
- 13:30What else do we got here? Mm
- 13:37The Ivan, equivalent of the GPS,
- 13:40acts like a real world misbehaving GPS.
- 13:43It's voiced by Mary McDonald Lewis,
- 13:45who's also the voice of OnStars navigation system.
- 13:49So like the original GPS lady.
- 13:50~ interesting. Wow.
- 13:52So that's pretty cool.
- 13:53Yeah, I didn't know that.
- 13:59that's pretty much all I got. So yeah.
- 14:01Yeah. That's okay.
- 14:05That's all the ones that I I saw as well.
- 14:08~ I ~ okay, one thing I did call out while we were watching it.
- 14:14~
- 14:16trying to I'm trying to think.
- 14:17He was like fighting with Zerg and he had like the the canister with
- 14:23the crystal in it or whatever.
- 14:25And it was like yeah, it was
- 14:26The kyber crystal.
- 14:28floating and it looked like the battery from Toy Story Two,
- 14:31like Zerg's power, you know? It was like reminiscent of that.
- 14:31Kinda, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 14:41But yeah, that's kinda it.
- 14:43That's pretty much it.
- 14:44Yeah. So
- 14:46Very detailed movie.
- 14:48yeah, had a lot of ~ just a whole different look to it for sure.
- 14:54Very much. What did you expect with this movie?
- 14:55So ~ Okay.
- 14:58Like,
- 14:59I I feel like for me, I expected this to be sort of like
- 15:05you know how like
- 15:08The Buzz Lightyear, like lore and what we've seen in the past has been very much
- 15:15Star Wars heavy.
- 15:17Yeah.
- 15:17And I was really wanting it to be like basically an episode of the Clone Wars.
- 15:24Yeah.
- 15:25I kinda got that a little
- 15:26Yeah.
- 15:27bit with this. So I'm not hating it.
- 15:29But ~ but yeah.
- 15:32Yeah.
- 15:33It was kind of a mix of like Star Wars and Star Trek.
- 15:36Just because of like the military Star Command aspect of it,
- 15:40I don't know. It
- 15:41Mm-hmm.
- 15:42it seemed like and then they're like stranded on a planet,
- 15:44you know. They they're always going on these missions and exploring.
- 15:45Yeah. Little bit avatary.
- 15:47But
- 15:50yeah. so actually though, my I feel like
- 15:54my expectations about it were when they first announced it,
- 15:59I was confused.
- 16:01'Cause they're like, this is the the movie that Andy saw about a spaceman.
- 16:07So I actually thought
- 16:07Yeah.
- 16:09it was gonna be more like a like an astronaut pilot type movie
- 16:15than it was like a sci fi movie,
- 16:17actually.
- 16:18Yeah.
- 16:19Based on like 'cause it looked super realistic,
- 16:22and so I just thought he was gonna be like a hotshot pilot or something like that,
- 16:25and I don't know, like a top gun or like a I don't know,
- 16:29what's the
- 16:30I haven't seen it, but there's a movie called The Right Stuff and it's
- 16:33all about those like early pilots on like the Gemini missions before
- 16:37the Apollo stuff and I I thought it was gonna be more like that,
- 16:41but Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:41More realistic. That would make more sense I would say.
- 16:45I don't know.
- 16:47And it felt like you got some of that with just like
- 16:52Some of the space shuttles and and stuff like that,
- 16:54but yeah.
- 16:54Mm.
- 16:56I liked the space shuttle at the end that looked a lot like the Buzz Lightyear
- 17:01box specifically. So
- 17:02That was good, yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 17:04Yeah, well, before we get into the IQ test for light year,
- 17:08I kinda wanted to just take a little bit of time and just go through some
- 17:11of the different ~ Toy Story related like shorts,
- 17:16all the spin off material for Toy Story.
- 17:18We're we're getting it all out in this episode and then we can move
- 17:21on from Toy Story
- 17:22from all our I've had a I've I've
- 17:22Finally we could be released from the the shackles.
- 17:27had a great time. I even got this Pizza Planet shirt recently,
- 17:30so you know. Yeah.
- 17:30Yeah. This is our sixth
- 17:33Toy Story related episode
- 17:35Yeah.
- 17:35in a row.
- 17:38So I I was gonna go through there's a few different shorts,
- 17:43~ there's some like T V specials,
- 17:45but like I wanted to start out with like the main thing that I would have loved
- 17:50for this movie to be is just like the buzzlet year of Star Command T V show.
- 17:55That's what
- 17:56Yes. Okay.
- 17:57I loved as a kid. I know it wasn't like it was just Saturday morning cartoon stuff.
- 18:02It wasn't like very heavy on the lore,
- 18:04Yeah. But it was already there,
- 18:05but I I watched that all the time growing up.
- 18:07Yeah.
- 18:08you know.
- 18:09Yeah, I loved it.
- 18:10And like I feel like the lore is or was put into
- 18:16the Buzz Lightyear ~ shooting ride in Disney.
- 18:20What is that called?
- 18:21Mhm. It's like the Ranger Spin.
- 18:24Something
- 18:24Ranger spin, yeah.
- 18:26like that puzzle at your Yeah.
- 18:28But I could be wrong on that, but yeah.
- 18:30Mm-hmm. It is more of that look,
- 18:31I that's the one thing
- 18:33yeah.
- 18:33I didn't watch what I I think.
- 18:36Yeah. It well it's hard
- 18:38it's not on Disney Plus. ~ it is something that like it's like is it canon anymore?
- 18:44Yeah.
- 18:46Yeah.
- 18:47I I I don't know what the reason is for that,
- 18:50but I don't think it's ever been on Disney Plus.
- 18:53And they had the pilot episode was like a straight to D V D or straight to VHS,
- 18:59like seventy minute like a few episodes
- 19:02Yeah.
- 19:03crammed together pilot TV movie.
- 19:05So that was not a theatrical release.
- 19:08I don't think so. It was just it just went to the stores.
- 19:10Yeah. ~ and that one actually did have Tim Allen
- 19:17as the voice, but then when the show came out it was Patrick Warburton.
- 19:21He took over the the the voice.
- 19:22~ that's right. That's
- 19:25right. I remember that.
- 19:26So I don't I I could have used him in this movie too,
- 19:28but you know
- 19:29Honestly,
- 19:30how great would that be? ~ man.
- 19:34~ but it it is kinda hard to find and and the only thing that's like
- 19:40on home video is just that TV movie,
- 19:43like the intro. The adventure begins is what it's called basically.
- 19:47So if you can find a t a VHS tape of that or a D V D,
- 19:51that's kinda I guess it's online.
- 19:53I'm sure all those episodes are on YouTube or something,
- 19:55Surely.
- 19:56but
- 19:57it's one of those like the like the Tarzan show that just like never
- 20:00got put on Disney Plus or Cory in the House for that matter,
- 20:02Yeah.
- 20:03but you know.
- 20:04Justice for Corey in the house,
- 20:06by the way. We haven't said that in a long time.
- 20:08Everybody needs to r give that hashtag at re-Life.
- 20:13Yeah.
- 20:15Re life? New life. Psh.
- 20:16A a new life, yeah.
- 20:18Man. Justice for Corey on the House.
- 20:21It's not even an election year.
- 20:23We could have it. It's not too political.
- 20:24Yeah.
- 20:28~ yeah.
- 20:29Mm-mm. So after Toy Story 3 came out,
- 20:34I was like, that's the perfect ending.
- 20:36I love it. But then they started putting out these like Pixar shorts,
- 20:40and I was like, this is perfect.
- 20:42You know, we just get these little glimpses into their lives
- 20:45Yeah.
- 20:45without like having a whole other movie.
- 20:48Like, I'm just good to keep doing it every now and then.
- 20:50We see a short and and I get to see my favorite characters.
- 20:53Checking in on them, how how they're doing with Bonnie.
- 20:54Yeah.
- 20:56And then but like
- 20:57You know, the the series is concluded and I w I was happy with that,
- 21:00you know.
- 21:01Yeah.
- 21:03so that's how I felt before they announced Toy Story Four.
- 21:05And then when they announced that I was just like,
- 21:07I don't know about this. But people
- 21:09~ boy.
- 21:11have heard our thoughts on Toy Story Four.
- 21:13It's not all bad. We kinda liked it.
- 21:13Yeah. No. Yeah.
- 21:16So, but there's a few shorts that came out post
- 21:22Toy Story Three and the first one was Hawaiian Vacation.
- 21:25Did you watch this one, Jeremy?
- 21:26I did. I did.
- 21:28I I thought it was a fun one. Like I Yeah.
- 21:30I like all of these in between
- 21:31Mhm.
- 21:33in between three and four. I like those
- 21:34Yeah.
- 21:35because they really went and tried to figure out,
- 21:38~ they they explored new concepts for new toys.
- 21:44Yeah.
- 21:45So this is like when the people go on vacation,
- 21:50what do
- 21:50Mm-hmm.
- 21:51the toys do that stay behind the at the house?
- 21:53Yeah.
- 21:53Well they have a staycation, of course.
- 21:56Yeah. Mm hmm.
- 22:01Yeah, I'm I'd be salty if Bonnie didn't take me to Hawaii also,
- 22:04but you know.
- 22:04I know. That'd be ~
- 22:06who goes to Hawaii on a winter vacation?
- 22:09I guess people do that for Christmas,
- 22:11but
- 22:11Yeah,
- 22:12guess so.
- 22:16But yeah, ~ Ken and Barbie try and like,
- 22:19you know, sneak w into Bonnie's backpack at the daycare and try and
- 22:23go to Hawaii with her, but then she just leaves her backpack at home.
- 22:26So then Woody and the gang
- 22:26Yeah.
- 22:27just kinda put on like a whole Hawaiian vacation for the two of them and
- 22:30I I thought it was cute. I thought it funny.
- 22:31Just so they could have their first kiss.
- 22:32Yeah.
- 22:35I thought that Ham had some like really great lines in it.
- 22:37My favorite line was when he was the
- 22:38He was so funny.
- 22:40pig on a spit
- 22:43yeah, yeah.
- 22:44and he was like, Yeah, I should have seen this coming.
- 22:46yeah, I knew this would happen eventually or something.
- 22:50The classic,
- 22:52The Louis Pink.
- 22:55Yeah, I I thought they all had well that I thought that one specifically
- 22:59had some really good moments with the classic characters.
- 23:02And I thought it I mean he ham had better lines in that than Toy
- 23:05I mean
- 23:05Story Five. So more screen time.
- 23:07That's true, that's true.
- 23:08Yeah.
- 23:10I mean, yeah, they're they're this is before the two movies of extra characters that
- 23:16stole the limelight for our boys.
- 23:17Yeah.
- 23:19The ~ the next one was small fry.
- 23:21We already mentioned that one.
- 23:23Small fry, okay.
- 23:23And I I do remember
- 23:25liking that one a lot.
- 23:27Yeah. It's a good concept of fast food toys.
- 23:32And not
- 23:32Yeah.
- 23:33just like the ones that get thrown away,
- 23:34but the ones in the display case.
- 23:36Mm-hmm.
- 23:39and the Buzz Lightyear just wants to get played with and he can't,
- 23:43so he takes matters into his own hands and jumps in the ball pit and tries
- 23:49to like replace Buzz while
- 23:51Yeah.
- 23:51Bonnie's there. I also love these because we get to spend time with Bonnie.
- 23:56Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 23:57And it it doesn't hurt as much giving the toys away to Bonnie and never seeing them
- 24:02again at this point.
- 24:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:05and I just love seeing her go all around to vacation or ~ to the McDonald
- 24:10or the chicken place, whatever.
- 24:11So the poultry palace.
- 24:12Poultry Palace. That was an
- 24:14Easter egg actually, 'cause in the vending machine next to the Wade
- 24:17really?
- 24:17Water, there was something that was like Poultry Palace brand in the Vin that
- 24:21okay.
- 24:22was another one I saw.
- 24:23Interesting, interesting.
- 24:25I I thought it was funny too, 'cause I I just I I mean,
- 24:29I've gotten so many McDonald's toys through the years,
- 24:31so like though all of those toys I've had some variation of,
- 24:36you know? Like
- 24:38Yeah.
- 24:38like the T bone steak that like had the Bendem arms.
- 24:41Like I had stuff like that. Not that toy,
- 24:43You had that? ~ Just like weird like the Oreo with the arms.
- 24:45but I had like stuff that was Yeah,
- 24:49From Dairy Queen.
- 24:49it it would be like
- 24:51I I thought the ~ it was like the constitution on like
- 24:54quarters as wheels. I was like,
- 24:55Yes, that's so relatable.
- 24:57Why doesn't this kid want to play with me?
- 24:59You know?
- 25:00I'm
- 25:00I'm like history, but I'm Yeah.
- 25:04I just I
- 25:05it was just the animators' chance to go wild,
- 25:08but just like what is the like the dumbest toys you've seen in a in a happy meal?
- 25:11Yeah.
- 25:14I f my favorite character was the grappling hook guy.
- 25:17Mm-hmm.
- 25:17He's like, ~ so cool. At himself.
- 25:21man.
- 25:24So yeah, that's
- 25:24Yeah. That
- 25:26that's a that's a top contender for me,
- 25:28at
- 25:28Yeah.
- 25:29least.
- 25:31~ and then ~ Partysaurus Rex was the the other.
- 25:36How did you feel? You didn't like this one?
- 25:37Th I like the concept of bath toys
- 25:38Yeah.
- 25:40'cause I had there was a lot of lore with bath toys.
- 25:43I had a lot of action figures in my
- 25:44Yeah. I agree.
- 25:47Mm-hmm.
- 25:47bath. But it was a l it was a little weird.
- 25:50It was like LMFAO
- 25:52Yeah.
- 25:53era twenty twelve
- 25:55For sure.
- 25:56like p party rock anthem weird
- 26:00Mm-hmm.
- 26:01weird stuff. So
- 26:03It definitely yeah, it was kind of stressful too,
- 26:05'cause you feel like that, you know,
- 26:06it's about it's she's gonna flood the bathtub and everything,
- 26:09Yeah.
- 26:10flood
- 26:10the house, which they did. ~ but it's true the the bath toys,
- 26:16that's a whole different crew than like your regular bedroom toys,
- 26:19That is. That's you gotta get the waterproof ones.
- 26:20you know, so so
- 26:22I I did think that that was a was a fun idea.
- 26:25And giving Rex some screen time,
- 26:27it was fun.
- 26:28Yeah, I'm happy with that one.
- 26:30Definitely the weirdest one of the bunch so far.
- 26:33Yeah.
- 26:35One other note going back to the previous ones though,
- 26:38we do get to see Bonnie play with the toys too.
- 26:41And it's not that Toy Story Five animation style,
- 26:46which I thought was interesting.
- 26:47Interesting, huh? Really interesting.
- 26:48Yeah. Hmm. Yeah.
- 26:51~ interesting.
- 26:51We just noticed that when we watched
- 26:54it, so.
- 27:00~ Lamp Life.
- 27:01Did you watch that one?
- 27:02Lamp Life.
- 27:02I did watch Lamp Life. ~ that's basically
- 27:06~ Bo Peep's story
- 27:10A a deleted scene from Toy Story Four almost?
- 27:11of l Yeah,
- 27:14almost. It was cute. I liked how it basically didn't leave the room and
- 27:19it just kept her in the center of the frame the whole time.
- 27:21Mm-hmm.
- 27:22So it's kinda like a little stage show.
- 27:24Yeah, that's I didn't think about it like that.
- 27:26Yeah. It definitely wasn't as funny as the other ones,
- 27:30but it was kind of like I felt like it had so well it it had some funny moments.
- 27:36But yeah.
- 27:37Yeah. And it made sense
- 27:38to me why they changed her look so much.
- 27:41They explained because the light bulb exploded and it lit her bonnet
- 27:45on fire and that's why she has a dark hue to her head.
- 27:48Hmm. Yeah.
- 27:50So
- 27:54No.
- 27:55Mm-hmm.
- 27:55Well, which ~ which one did you like the best?
- 27:58The the small fry?
- 28:00Small fry out of the ones we've talked about so far,
- 28:02Yeah. Okay.
- 28:03that one's my favorite one so far.
- 28:05However, I watched a couple that you didn't watch.
- 28:08The longer versions.
- 28:08Okay. Yeah.
- 28:11The Toy Story of Terror from 2013.
- 28:13I've I have seen
- 28:14this one before and I I liked it,
- 28:16but I haven't seen it since it
- 28:17Okay, okay.
- 28:17came out.
- 28:19This one's really good because it focuses on ~ Jessie's claustrophobia
- 28:24Mm-hmm.
- 28:26and how she can overcome that.
- 28:28But it's also just funny because they're just exploring a a ~ dirty motel.
- 28:33And like the reason they're all in this situation I loved that they're just
- 28:39in the trunk right now, just watching a movie.
- 28:45they just get out of the suitcase and they're just watching a movie on a road trip.
- 28:48Like that's so fun. And then they get to the hotel and then while they're asleep,
- 28:53Mr. Potato Head's like, What? I gotta go check out the amenities
- 28:57Yeah.
- 28:59And so they they're chasing him the whole time.
- 29:01But ~ it's really good. I love that
- 29:08it featured Mr. Prickle Pants what whatever his name is.
- 29:11Uh-huh.
- 29:12~
- 29:15I love that he especially the scene where Mr.
- 29:18Potato Head pulled his ears out so that he couldn't hear him.
- 29:21That was really funny.
- 29:24Such a good gag. Yeah.
- 29:25Yeah.
- 29:27And then I also like it because there's Legos mentioned.
- 29:31Mm, okay.
- 29:32There was a little bunny figure that like
- 29:36Mm-hmm.
- 29:37turned itself into a ~ a bridge for the for the toys.
- 29:40Yeah. okay.
- 29:41So
- 29:43yeah. It was pretty good.
- 29:46And then twenty fourteen, the toy that time forgot.
- 29:50That one. So good.
- 29:53Dude. So good. It's
- 29:54Yeah. I I don't think I've ever seen that one actually.
- 29:58like a red wall meets toy story,
- 30:02dude.
- 30:02Okay.
- 30:04So Bonnie is going over to her friend Mason's house.
- 30:09Mm-hmm.
- 30:09And Mason.
- 30:11has this new video game system and he's obsessed with it.
- 30:14It's kinda like Toy Story Five a little bit.
- 30:16But ~ and he's just like glued onto that.
- 30:20But it was like right after Christmas or something.
- 30:24And he had this whole collection of battlosauruses.
- 30:31Battlers. And though it was basically a gladiator movie with
- 30:38Dinosaurs that didn't realize they were toys.
- 30:42Okay.
- 30:43And it was cool 'cause they're like the leader was like didn't want
- 30:48the dinosaurs to realize they were toys,
- 30:50so he kept Mason on the video game constantly.
- 30:54And
- 30:55Mm.
- 30:55it was basically Trixie and Rex trying to fit in as dinosaurs so they get accepted.
- 31:00Okay. Mm-hmm.
- 31:01~
- 31:02and then dude, it's so good. I I loved it.
- 31:07It was so
- 31:07I'll I'll definitely check
- 31:08it out. Mm-hmm.
- 31:09So cheesy, so so
- 31:10good. ~ man. But yeah.
- 31:13~
- 31:15Sounds like that was your favorite of the Yeah.
- 31:17I think it was. I it was a good
- 31:18Yeah. Okay.
- 31:19twenty minutes long. It was different.
- 31:21~
- 31:21Yeah.
- 31:23and then
- 31:26What was the one? That was right after Christmas because they
- 31:31had a Christmas ornament that was like up went along with them for the ride.
- 31:38And Trixie was trying to be like,
- 31:41I wanna just be played with as a dinosaur.
- 31:44I never get that to happen. And then Bonnie comes and turns her into a reindeer.
- 31:52~ yeah.
- 31:52And then takes this random cat Christmas ornament angel and says,
- 31:56You're my dinosaur And so basically
- 31:59Ha ha ha.
- 32:00this little cat, he's just like just an angel and he has like a a trumpet
- 32:06and he's playing like Christmas carols as l as the gladiator s entrance
- 32:10Mm-hmm. Hmm.
- 32:12is going on and i
- 32:13i it it's so funny. They have like a pit from three hundred,
- 32:15Okay.
- 32:17but it's just like the AC vent.
- 32:19~
- 32:20Yeah.
- 32:22So good. Alright, I'll stop talking about that.
- 32:23Huh. Okay.
- 32:24But
- 32:25I think that's my favorite one.
- 32:27The toy the time forgot. And then there's more.
- 32:32There's a couple more. ~ the T V show Forky Asks a Question,
- 32:37which came out right when Disney Plus popped out.
- 32:39~
- 32:40Yeah. I watched one of those.
- 32:42I think I watched all of ~
- 32:44Yeah.
- 32:44There it's a it's the same thing.
- 32:46It's a YouTube channel for for Forky.
- 32:46Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:52Basically asking what is a leader?
- 32:54What is a pet? What is reading?
- 32:56What is art?
- 32:58It's just it it's good. Very little kid yeah,
- 33:01It was for little kid like real little kids and yeah,
- 33:03yeah.
- 33:04I it was funny but yeah, I didn't watch all the other ones.
- 33:07I think
- 33:08my favorite one was when he asked about money and it was basically just
- 33:11Ham explaining money to him. And I just like anytime Ham's on screen.
- 33:16So
- 33:16Yeah, definitely.
- 33:18All right. Well I think that's all of right?
- 33:20Did we miss any?
- 33:23~ yeah, that's that's it. As far as
- 33:25I I can remember. So
- 33:25Wow. Okay.
- 33:28except for the the major ~ spinoff of them all,
- 33:33light year from two thousand twenty two.
- 33:35Light year of two thousand and twenty two.
- 33:38Let me say I was just very upset when I realized that
- 33:44Tim Allen was not gonna be voicing this character.
- 33:48But then the more I thought about it,
- 33:50the more it made more sense.
- 33:54But I didn't need it to be Chris Evans either.
- 33:59I don't know.
- 34:03'Cause a lot of people their their toys are voiced by the actors,
- 34:09but that's not always the case.
- 34:11Yeah, it's true.
- 34:12In fact, the Woody toys are voiced by Tom Hanks' brother.
- 34:17Yeah.
- 34:19So I just don't I don't know.
- 34:22I don't think I would have picked Chris Evans as my as my ~ light year.
- 34:29Mm-hmm.
- 34:30But Kiki Palmer did a really good job playing Izzy.
- 34:32I like her.
- 34:33Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 34:34anyways, we should probably get into it.
- 34:43Alright, well let's go ahead and get started into this IQ test for light year.
- 34:48We have a test for our movie that meets our IQ standards.
- 34:51Movies must collect at least seven points to be a staple,
- 34:54ten points to become stapleist,
- 34:56winning up to a total of fourteen points given the bonus categories.
- 35:01but if it gets less than seven,
- 35:06so zero to six, it's a quack.
- 35:09got a storyline for those who haven't seen it?
- 35:11I do.
- 35:12For those who haven't seen this,
- 35:14while spending years attempting to return home,
- 35:16marooned Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear encounters an army of ruthless robots commanded
- 35:21by Zerg, who are attempting to steal the fuel source of his ship.
- 35:25Hilarity ensues. That's right.
- 35:25Hilarity ensues. Did it?
- 35:28Nah. I don't know if it did.
- 35:29Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 35:32We'll see. Alright, well let's
- 35:36get into this IQ test.
- 35:37We have a test for our movie that meets our IQ standards.
- 35:40Movies must collect at least seven points to be a staple of our childhood,
- 35:44~ ten points to become stapleist of the staples,
- 35:49and winning up to a total of fourteen points
- 35:52Let's get started with test number one,
- 35:54the quotable quotes test.
- 35:55Mm-hmm.
- 35:57Are you trying to get me to pull your finger?
- 36:00No.
- 36:04that's a quote. I didn't
- 36:06Yeah.
- 36:08write that down. Sorry. I remember that now though.
- 36:10Yeah. Yeah. I I I wrote I wrote
- 36:11Okay, well you're trying to get
- 36:14down that one and then the follow up to something she's like w basically buzz just
- 36:19says like ~ it's something your grandma grandma and I used to do.
- 36:22Just like gross or
- 36:23It ew. Gross.
- 36:25Yeah.
- 36:28that's some, you know, low hanging fruit there,
- 36:30but
- 36:31I would say a lot of the quotes were very much low hanging fruit.
- 36:34I'll just say it.
- 36:36What I noticed with half of the ones that I wrote down,
- 36:39Mm-hmm.
- 36:40I would say one. ~ half of the ones that I wrote down were only
- 36:46quotes because they were very forced and were repeated in the script.
- 36:53So,
- 36:54Okay. Mm-hmm.
- 36:56definitely like ~ I bought you five minutes.
- 36:59Well, it's about to get real.
- 37:00Yeah, mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 37:04This is definitely a violation of my parole.
- 37:07Yeah.
- 37:08Laser shield.
- 37:11Like it's like a forced callback.
- 37:13Yeah.
- 37:14I don't know. I don't know if I appreciated them as much.
- 37:16Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 37:18Like would they be so
- 37:19funny if they were just said once?
- 37:20I don't know.
- 37:22It it was interesting. I I liked to s I liked seeing how they were gonna incorporate
- 37:26like the Buzz Light Your Toys,
- 37:29like actual quotes, like
- 37:30Yeah.
- 37:31you know, at the end he's like,
- 37:32Not today, Zerk, you know, but
- 37:34Yeah, yeah.
- 37:34stuff like that. ~ but again, those were just like quotes from the other movies.
- 37:39So ~ the only other one that I wrote down,
- 37:44like I didn't I didn't write down quotes from this.
- 37:46I didn't feel like they
- 37:46Yeah.
- 37:47stood out that much. But ~
- 37:50It was kinda it was Buzz says,
- 37:53~ nice job, elderly convict and it was very it was very reminiscent
- 37:58of Quiet Musical Hog ~ I liked that one.
- 37:58That's very yeah, that's very buzz.
- 38:01That's very buzz. I well what
- 38:03But I
- 38:05yeah.
- 38:06another one that I did write down was so now it's the turnip?
- 38:11Mm.
- 38:12Why do you call it a turnip? Well it looks obviously like a root vegetable.
- 38:15That that was another
- 38:16Does it ha yeah?
- 38:19genre of that.
- 38:20I just thought it looked like the the ships on Geonosis in episode
- 38:24two Attack the Clones.
- 38:25Yes, yes, yes, yes. You know what?
- 38:28The
- 38:29Ha ha
- 38:29toy that time forgot is the gladiator scene on Geonosis.
- 38:33That's why you're gonna like it.
- 38:34~ okay. Okay.
- 38:35Okay.
- 38:39Anyways, so ~ so now it's a turnip.
- 38:42I just wrote in parentheses next to it,
- 38:45boo battle banter, you just wanna roll your eyes at.
- 38:49This isn't Avengers, Chris Evans.
- 38:51Ha ha ha.
- 38:53I just can't I can't stand it's so cringy.
- 38:56Let let's talk about it. Yeah,
- 38:57I
- 38:57Like battle banter, like ~
- 38:59I
- 39:00now you wanna call it a turnip?
- 39:04I laughed at, you know, some moments in this movie,
- 39:07but I did feel like like it was just very cringy humor for a lot of it.
- 39:12It was
- 39:13cringed up.
- 39:16and it's definitely just a reminder of just I w I don't know.
- 39:22like just like millennial humor maybe or just like whatever the
- 39:26Mm.
- 39:26new generation of peop of animators or writers,
- 39:29it just wasn't it isn't the same as like the people that wrote Toy Story.
- 39:33It's like, ~ actually this isn't actually that funny.
- 39:37You know? Yeah.
- 39:40It's like this movie's quirky.
- 39:43Yeah, it did feel I mean, yeah,
- 39:46this movie is supposed to be the movie that Andy saw in nineteen ninety five.
- 39:50This tonally this
- 39:50I don't believe that for a second.
- 39:52was not a movie that would have flown in nineteen ninety five for multiple reasons,
- 39:57but you know.
- 39:58Well yeah. Yeah, yeah. Well w we yeah.
- 40:00~ but just like the humor, this wasn't the type of movie that was being made
- 40:05at that time. Yeah.
- 40:05No. And also,
- 40:07we've seen Andy's imagination and where that can take him.
- 40:11This is not the vibe of that movie.
- 40:13Not at all.
- 40:14No, yeah.
- 40:15There was not like a cheesy it was all like deeper villains.
- 40:21It was like the villain is actually himself
- 40:26Spoiler alert.
- 40:26and like I
- 40:29don't care about this. Nobody's gonna see this movie.
- 40:30~ but it it
- 40:33Yeah.
- 40:34wasn't it wasn't like
- 40:36There's like a lesson to be learned.
- 40:38But it
- 40:38Yeah.
- 40:39wasn't like super campy like sci fi or like Western.
- 40:45Not really exciting action either.
- 40:48I don't know how to describe it.
- 40:50The movie had a
- 40:51had a weird tone because they like they've recasted it.
- 40:56It the look of it is more realistic.
- 41:00At times it wants you to take it like really seriously,
- 41:03but then it gets undercut
- 41:04Yeah.
- 41:05by some jokes and it just doesn't work sometimes.
- 41:08It's like a Marvel movie, but like not the good ones.
- 41:08Like is it f Yeah,
- 41:11is it supposed to be a comedy or is it supposed to be like this is like
- 41:16a really like heroic epic movie?
- 41:19for our hero.
- 41:20Yeah.
- 41:20And
- 41:21it would try and bounce back and forth and I don't think it really handled
- 41:23it all that well. So so I as far as the quotes go,
- 41:28like I didn't think the humor really worked and that's kind of where we lean
- 41:32on for the quotes. And
- 41:33Yeah.
- 41:33then just some of the moments that were supposed to be more sincere,
- 41:36they were just kind of phoned in or just like I don't know.
- 41:41I know, yeah.
- 41:41I just didn't really
- 41:41buy into the heart of the movie that much.
- 41:44Couldn't either.
- 41:45No.
- 41:46That being said, I did write down four.
- 41:50Okay.
- 41:52And you wrote down one.
- 41:53Okay.
- 41:55Do we want even though we hate the quotes,
- 41:57like all four of mine, I said I don't like these quotes.
- 42:04Well then if you don't like the quotes then I don't think we'd count it.
- 42:07Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:08Okay. Just making sure
- 42:11we could give it the one point.
- 42:12Cause I mean I was
- 42:13I I just don't think so.
- 42:15like, ~ that's notable, I wrote it down.
- 42:17Not notable for a good way.
- 42:17Yeah. I d
- 42:20I don't think there's anything in there that I and to be fair,
- 42:24like we just watched this for the first time,
- 42:26so we haven't had the time to sit with it and rewatch it or anything,
- 42:29but I
- 42:29Yeah.
- 42:30also don't feel like there are quotes in here that I'm like,
- 42:34I want to use that in conversation.
- 42:36Like everyone's gonna get that sick reference,
- 42:38you know, like So
- 42:39Yeah. Maybe like
- 42:43the tone of the voice of the direction the GPS robot that was like first head
- 42:49south He would like drop his voice every time he said south.
- 42:54Yeah. I
- 42:55didn't yeah, that maybe you liked that scene.
- 42:57I I I didn't. I it was annoying.
- 42:59It was annoying. It was annoying.
- 43:01I'm
- 43:02telling you.
- 43:05It just d that part just didn't work for me.
- 43:06I'm not quoting this. You can't make me.
- 43:07Alright,
- 43:09let's let's give it a zero for the for the quotes.
- 43:11Sorry to anyone that's
- 43:11The in credit scene where he was
- 43:13like laser shield, yeah. Bro
- 43:16Yeah. the
- 43:17these are the worst in credit scenes I've seen in my life.
- 43:23This movie
- 43:24sucks, doesn't it?
- 43:27Well let's let's put it let's be objective,
- 43:29but I'm just saying I'm
- 43:30Okay.
- 43:31just saying. Okay.
- 43:35Okay.
- 43:36and also let me let me preface by saying this.
- 43:39I went into this movie with an open mind also.
- 43:42Like
- 43:42I did too.
- 43:43I have heard that it was mixed with people.
- 43:45Some people hated it, some people really liked it.
- 43:48But I tried to go in with an open mind.
- 43:51I did I did know a spoiler about the Buzz thing,
- 43:55but that was because I hadn't seen this before,
- 43:58but that
- 43:59Mm-hmm.
- 43:59was only because of I was reading reviews of Toy Story Five and people were like
- 44:04I'm so glad that
- 44:04~
- 44:05they acknowledged Lightyear wasn't canon or s you know,
- 44:07something that like just by based on that one quote.
- 44:08Yeah. And by the way, Zerg's our dad.
- 44:11Yeah, yeah.
- 44:12Yeah.
- 44:13Yeah, I don't like how they changed it to himself.
- 44:17But I I tried to go in with an open mind and just enjoy it as like
- 44:21a sci-fi adventure,
- 44:23Yeah.
- 44:24you know, but I I'll leave it at them.
- 44:28It like it's a movie that it's it's like I describe it as it
- 44:34has so much potential, but it's
- 44:36Yeah.
- 44:36almost like you have to sneeze but it can't come out.
- 44:41Like it's not scratching an itch for me in
- 44:42Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 44:45any of the way.
- 44:49So very dissatisfying.
- 44:52Mm-hmm.
- 44:52And so for that we're giving the quotes zero points.
- 44:56That's a first, right?
- 44:56Zero. Yeah.
- 44:59I I think so. Yeah.
- 45:01Maybe space camp?
- 45:02Space camp maybe I think we we were hard on that one because it was
- 45:06Giving it one. That's
- 45:06all Star Wars quotes, but
- 45:09true. All right.
- 45:11No,
- 45:11this one doesn't have quotes.
- 45:15They're they're all
- 45:16Not good quotes. Low hanging fruit.
- 45:19It's for three year olds. And I say that as this is a Disney movie,
- 45:25cartoon animated movie, made for kids,
- 45:28but they know they know better than that to do.
- 45:31Minions
- 45:32Yeah.
- 45:34level quotes.
- 45:37Are you kidding
- 45:37Yeah.
- 45:38me?
- 45:41Alright. Next test.
- 45:47Yeah, we'll talk about the magnificent music.
- 45:49Yeah.
- 45:53So our next test, we're gonna be talking about the music.
- 45:56~ can you identify by sound the theme by heart?
- 45:59~ in other words, can you guess the movie based on the score?
- 46:04So this is another one I haven't had time to sit with.
- 46:09Yeah.
- 46:09~
- 46:09this was a movie composed by ~ Michael Giachino.
- 46:15I thought the score sounded
- 46:20More qualified.
- 46:20I mean, yeah, he's a
- 46:22I mean, Pixar veteran. He's he's a great he's a great composer.
- 46:26I felt like the theme that he was doing I had two thoughts about it as
- 46:31far as like Buzz Lightyear. One,
- 46:32it was very reminiscent of what he would go on to do with Fantastic Four.
- 46:36And it was also
- 46:36Yeah, okay.
- 46:38very repetitive. But also I felt like it never quite like got there.
- 46:45Like it it I felt like he kept teasing a main theme that he never like built
- 46:50up into.
- 46:52And then the movie ended. So I don't
- 46:53Mm-hmm.
- 46:55I'm gonna say I didn't really love the music in this I I thought yeah,
- 46:57Almost like a sneeze where you can't actually sneeze.
- 47:00yeah,
- 47:00yeah. ~ to stick with that analogy,
- 47:05I I do think the music was good,
- 47:07but I didn't also think it was super memorable.
- 47:11Like I felt like it fit the movie,
- 47:13but
- 47:13Yeah.
- 47:14I'm gonna say like I don't think it really stands out.
- 47:18Like if you were playing a track from this movie,
- 47:20I couldn't tell you if it was from the Fantastic Four movie he did
- 47:23Yeah, that's true. That's true.
- 47:24or from something else.
- 47:27And like I didn't even get much of Buzz's motifs.
- 47:33Yeah.
- 47:33Not too much.
- 47:35Actually, so ~ here's a a what the wife said a comment anyway.
- 47:40What the wife said.
- 47:41Kelsey was talking about the music and how she was kinda hoping they might
- 47:46incorporate some of the music from like the Buzz Lightyear ride
- 47:49at Disney 'cause they have their own like
- 47:50Yeah.
- 47:51Q music. And she pulled it up and it was like just very like theme park sounding,
- 47:56but it the music actually incorporated like Toy Story music themes,
- 48:00like
- 48:01It had like a a layer underneath that was like the melody of like you've
- 48:04got a friend in me, but with it also being like space galactic style music,
- 48:10you know. ~
- 48:11Yeah, yeah.
- 48:12and so they didn't really have any musical callbacks to anything Randy Newman
- 48:16did that I noticed anyway. ~ but again,
- 48:20it's this as a movie within a movie.
- 48:24It's not part of Toy
- 48:24Not Toy Story.
- 48:26Story.
- 48:26No points.
- 48:28I don't think so, yeah. There's
- 48:29not even any soundtrack that has three bangers.
- 48:32Yeah,
- 48:32there's no Randy Newman song on here.
- 48:37Or rascal flats for that manner.
- 48:39Yeah. Zero points. boy.
- 48:47Yikes. Alright. Alright.
- 48:47keep let's keep going.
- 48:49Number three, our characters test.
- 48:51Do these characters check the boxes to make a dynamic movie?
- 48:54We've got the lead in the hero,
- 48:57which is the Buzz Lightyear origin
- 49:00Mm-hmm.
- 49:00guy. He's he's the is he a engaging protagonist?
- 49:05Is he compelling, memorable, or emotionally engaging?
- 49:07He's a reckless pilot, needs to learn a lesson somehow,
- 49:12whatever that is.
- 49:15Not sure what that is. Figuring out what your home is?
- 49:20he's gotta learn how to work with others.
- 49:21Like he's he wants to do it all himself.
- 49:24Yeah, okay.
- 49:26That's the theme that they are kinda
- 49:28Aw man.
- 49:29guess you missed out on that.
- 49:31I guess I did. Kinda blurry. I guess I should have figured that one out.
- 49:36Yeah.
- 49:38Anyways.
- 49:44Kinda like young Washington, huh?
- 49:50Kind of. I mean you know the history,
- 49:52Little bit. I do. ~
- 49:53so yeah.
- 49:55Yeah. ~
- 49:56Okay, I
- 49:56What you mean? What I know I know some George
- 49:59W what do you got there?
- 50:00W.
- 50:01Jerem Jeremy's pulling off the shelf some some George Washington biographies.
- 50:05~
- 50:06I've decided
- 50:07I've wanted to collect a presidential library and
- 50:10Mm, mm-hmm.
- 50:11I want to have at least one book from each president.
- 50:14Okay.
- 50:17Currently, I have to figure out art of the deal.
- 50:20Just kidding. Although I've heard that's a good if you're gonna be a salesman.
- 50:27Yeah.
- 50:27Alright, backtracking.
- 50:30So Buzz Lightyear, he's the protagonist.
- 50:33~ I mean I would go ahead and say he's good,
- 50:37but I also feel like you only care
- 50:38Yeah.
- 50:38about him because he's from Toy Story.
- 50:42That's true. That's very true.
- 50:45But I do kind of I I actually felt Yeah.
- 50:48kinda like that he has his like
- 50:50Mm.
- 50:51his purpose is like to
- 50:56won't be space ranger with his best friend.
- 51:00I like that.
- 51:02Yeah. Yeah, and he's trying to to right the wrong.
- 51:06He feels the the guilt of of stranding his his you know,
- 51:11all that his ship on that ~ on that planet.
- 51:13Really is all his fault.
- 51:16and he even like tries to like,
- 51:17you know, turn in his badge, you know,
- 51:19court martial himself. So that and it's like where are you gonna go?
- 51:22Like what are you gonna do? Like
- 51:24That's
- 51:25I think that's my biggest gripe with the vibe of this movie
- 51:28is because the characters
- 51:28Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:31everyone is so dramatic,
- 51:33Yeah.
- 51:33yet also their counter is so lethargic in response.
- 51:38Mm, yeah.
- 51:39Like ~ I'm taking my badge off.
- 51:42I'm getting court-martialing myself.
- 51:44~
- 51:45Yeah.
- 51:46finish the mission, Buzz.
- 51:48Yeah,
- 51:48pick it up. Come on. What are you gonna do?
- 51:53It just didn't match. Nobody matched.
- 51:54You could tell everybody recorded separately.
- 51:59Mm-hmm.
- 52:03Yeah. I
- 52:04Sorry.
- 52:05I ~
- 52:08I guess just to talk a little bit more about the voice acting change too.
- 52:11Like I I feel like yeah
- 52:16No, let me let me save my thoughts.
- 52:17Let me save it for a little bit later.
- 52:17You do it. You have to? Okay.
- 52:18No, let
- 52:19me save it for the next the rewatchability section.
- 52:22Okay. All right.
- 52:22But
- 52:24I we'll go ahead and say Buzz is a compelling character though.
- 52:26I mean you know.
- 52:27Yes. Maybe
- 52:28the acting the voice actor took it out for me
- 52:32Mm-hmm.
- 52:32because I'm sorry, but Chris Evans it didn't fit the bill for me.
- 52:38It it was jarring.
- 52:39It made me feel
- 52:40like i he didn't change his voice at all.
- 52:42Yeah.
- 52:43He was genuinely he didn't even try to be Buzz Lightyear.
- 52:46He just was Captain America. That's all he sounded like.
- 52:51Sorry.
- 52:52He just pulled a Chris Pratt, you know,
- 52:54and just like voiced Garfield for whatever reason and Mario.
- 52:58Yeah.
- 53:02Okay. Lego,
- 53:03And the Lego. Emmet.
- 53:05yeah. Yeah.
- 53:06~ okay, villain.
- 53:10Villain, we got Berserg.
- 53:14Yeah, that was confusing to me.
- 53:16I don't know. I mean, I guess they explained it later,
- 53:18They call they call
- 53:19but like
- 53:20me Berserk 'cause they couldn't pronounce buzz.
- 53:23T that was just dumb. I just rolled my eyes at that.
- 53:26Seems to be a trend.
- 53:29Sorry, listener, if you loved
- 53:30Ha ha ha.
- 53:31Lightyear, we are ripping this movie apart for today.
- 53:34It's okay. It's okay.
- 53:34Seems to be
- 53:36Yeah.
- 53:41I'm gonna go back and matter again,
- 53:43says Buzz. Like who cares either way?
- 53:47Yeah.
- 53:49It's just an alternate
- 53:49This movie
- 53:50timeline. No stakes. Or the stakes are too high to where it doesn't
- 53:54This movie was
- 53:54matter anymore.
- 53:55it was too confusing. Like you think a kid
- 53:58Yeah.
- 53:58you think Andy understood any of that that was happening?
- 54:01I
- 54:02No.
- 54:02don't think I understood it.
- 54:04No.
- 54:06~ I I yeah.
- 54:07You need a simple villain like Evil Doctor Pork Chop.
- 54:11I mean it's just the whole movie is just like Buzz's own personal journey
- 54:16to try and fix this wrong, I guess,
- 54:18and he's his own
- 54:18It's like a
- 54:19enemy.
- 54:21it's like this was made for adults but explained to you like a child.
- 54:23Yeah. Yeah. So I
- 54:25So it's
- 54:27confusing for both parties. That's why this movie bombed.
- 54:30That's why I I I feel like Zerg is like I can't believe I'm saying it,
- 54:35but I'm not gonna give Zerg like a as a good villain in this movie.
- 54:39I was 'cause it's yeah. It's just like a cop out to
- 54:39Not even the real Zerg. Not at the real
- 54:43try and be to do like a twist.
- 54:46~
- 54:46Yeah.
- 54:47so no, I I don't think so.
- 54:49Lame.
- 54:50I didn't like it.
- 54:51Supporting characters we've got Izzy Hawthorne.
- 54:56I I I put her as the support. But she's scared of space.
- 55:00How stupid.
- 55:04Yeah. It's like an Indiana
- 55:05I don't get it.
- 55:06Jones and snakes kind of thing,
- 55:08I guess, but not as funny, I guess.
- 55:10Mm, not as funny. It was just like
- 55:10I don't know.
- 55:12ki this is an annoying issue to have right now.
- 55:15Just get over it. If you're scared of space,
- 55:20you shouldn't be scared of flying.
- 55:21Yeah.
- 55:24Alright. I mean I'm scared of space,
- 55:26but I don't pretend like I have a space suit on or be a
- 55:27Yeah, no, I agree. Yeah.
- 55:30space ranger. No.
- 55:35I remember hearing that people really liked the Sox character.
- 55:38That was like the little cat, right?
- 55:39Yeah. Okay, yeah.
- 55:41The r s
- 55:42robot cat. I I was kinda mixed.
- 55:44There was times that I I thought that it was it was cute and endearing
- 55:49and other times I was like, this is just kind of a annoying character.
- 55:54This movie would not have progressed without this cat,
- 55:58though. And
- 55:59That's true. Yeah.
- 56:01I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing,
- 56:02Yeah.
- 56:03but like Sox was obviously this the merchandise catch grab of this movie.
- 56:08Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 56:09It's kinda lame, but ~ he's cool.
- 56:13He's kinda like Goddard from Jimmy Neutron.
- 56:15Only he talks to you. ~
- 56:17That is cool.
- 56:22He has a gadget for every form of plot convenience that no one can
- 56:28Mm-hmm.
- 56:29My problem with this character is that nobody can think for themselves
- 56:34and they have to run everything.
- 56:35Everything through socks like he's Chat GPT.
- 56:39Hm.
- 56:40I mean, yeah.
- 56:41And they can't move forward without him handling the situation.
- 56:45So you might as well just let him do it all.
- 56:47I mean, he's the one who figured out the the fuel thing after sixty two years.
- 57:00Yeah, I wasn't expecting this to go like interstellar on us,
- 57:04this movie. I that was not something I expected.
- 57:05Yeah.
- 57:07Yeah.
- 57:09~ yeah, g are you trying to explain time dilation to like a five year
- 57:14old in this movie? What is happening?
- 57:17Yeah, it's so confusing.
- 57:19~ but yeah.
- 57:21But overall I guess I liked socks more than I thought I would.
- 57:25Did you like the like
- 57:26the junior Rangers, that crew?
- 57:30I was gonna say I liked the convict.
- 57:33I did not like Taiko Watiti's character.
- 57:37And I put him as the scene stealer.
- 57:37Yeah, I Yeah.
- 57:41I feel like that's also another Marvel trope is having Taiko Watiti voice somebody.
- 57:47Silly. But
- 57:48True. Yeah.
- 57:49like he was the comic relief.
- 57:54He stole the scene, but I was not happy about it.
- 57:58It wasn't that funny. It was it's yeah.
- 57:59He had too many jokes and they w none of them were funny.
- 58:00Yeah.
- 58:02None
- 58:02of them were landing. And that's just not what we're used
- 58:07to Taiko Battiti performing as.
- 58:10Mm-hmm.
- 58:10It's just not.
- 58:16~
- 58:19Feels good.
- 58:24For a movie I've only seen once today.
- 58:27Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 58:27Yikes.
- 58:28I'm glad I didn't see it in theaters.
- 58:31I know and that's yeah. That's that's part of the problem too.
- 58:36It's just like it was just too convoluted of a premise to begin with.
- 58:41Yeah.
- 58:41I have more to say on that. I'll save it.
- 58:43Okay. Ultimately everyone is incredibly forgettable.
- 58:50We'll leave it at that. I think I'm
- 58:52So I mean
- 58:53gonna put zero for this test too.
- 58:55Feel like we have to. I mean I
- 58:58We're being objective.
- 59:00I felt like
- 59:02This is so bad. This might be our low scoring one.
- 59:04Yeah. No.
- 59:07Wait, there's still a chance?
- 59:09I
- 59:09I think that it'll get some points,
- 59:11but maybe not.
- 59:12Yeah.
- 59:12We'll see. Maybe I shouldn't be s too presumptuous,
- 59:15but
- 59:16Yeah, it could still get stapleised.
- 59:17Okay.
- 59:18Or stapline.
- 59:20All right. Let's do rewatchability.
- 59:21Mm-hmm.
- 59:26So are you ready to move on?
- 59:30Okay. So this is the movies that we can watch over and over again.
- 59:35For us that's national treasure.
- 59:36For you, I
- 59:37Mm-hmm.
- 59:38hope it's not light year. Because I don't really have plans to watch this movie
- 59:41~ Dog N O P E
- 59:43again.
- 59:48And
- 59:48I
- 59:48feel like I was watching Stranger Things season five and
- 59:52yeah.
- 59:53not the ending part.
- 59:56Yeah. ~ so here's what I I wanted to say about this movie.
- 1:00:00I I felt the reason I didn't see this movie when it came out is was just like
- 1:00:06I disagreed with the premise to begin with.
- 1:00:09Just like I didn't think it was a good concept for a movie.
- 1:00:12I thought it was too confusing.
- 1:00:13~ the idea that like this isn't Buzz Lightyear,
- 1:00:19this is Buzz Lightyear was based on a character in a movie and we're showing
- 1:00:23you this movie.
- 1:00:25And like, well why wouldn't the toy just look like the the movie?
- 1:00:29Why wouldn't it be the same voice and all you know,
- 1:00:32all that stuff? I was thinking about this 'cause actually a similar thing
- 1:00:37I'm I'm gonna go down a Star Wars ~ rabbit hole here for a minute.
- 1:00:42Okay. So I feel like there's two examples of this.
- 1:00:46One was like when episode nine came out and the trailer for that revealed like
- 1:00:52the Emperor was back.
- 1:00:54I was like, I disagree with that that choice.
- 1:00:57So I'm gonna go I'm gonna go see this movie,
- 1:00:59but already like I'm
- 1:01:00Yeah.
- 1:01:02it's already at a disadvantage because I I don't feel like that's the right choice.
- 1:01:06Same thing with like ~ Kelsey was asking me if I
- 1:01:12was gonna watch that Darth Maul show that came out on Disney Plus.
- 1:01:17yeah.
- 1:01:18And look, I have watched all the animated shows,
- 1:01:22like the Clone Wars and
- 1:01:23Rebels and stuff. So I understand I understand
- 1:01:24You're qualified, Jonathan. You
- 1:01:27that Darth Maul is back. Doesn't mean I agree with it.
- 1:01:29Like
- 1:01:30Yeah.
- 1:01:30I like and she even agreed like like she was kind of confused by it.
- 1:01:35Like it just doesn't make sense.
- 1:01:36Like I just feel like he died in that in that movie.
- 1:01:39Why are they bringing him back?
- 1:01:40And I felt like Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:41If Darth Maul is back, Mace Windu has to be back.
- 1:01:43That's my thing.
- 1:01:46So like I know like George Lucas himself brought that character back,
- 1:01:50but I just feel like I disagree with that.
- 1:01:53And so I haven't
- 1:01:53Yeah.
- 1:01:54even though I've watched all the other shows,
- 1:01:55like I just haven't had much interest in like watching that that show.
- 1:01:59Even though I've heard great things that it's that it's a great show.
- 1:02:03But you know, I might get around to watching it,
- 1:02:06but I'm just like it's something that it's like already at a disadvantage.
- 1:02:09And that's what I feel like is with this movie.
- 1:02:12I also feel like this is Pixar's attempt at distancing themselves from
- 1:02:19Tim Allen and it backfired. Like
- 1:02:22Yeah.
- 1:02:23Like I
- 1:02:23think and maybe they were just like,
- 1:02:25Toy Story, that's its own thing,
- 1:02:27and maybe we can spin off and do these movies.
- 1:02:29But I feel like there was some agenda to be like,
- 1:02:32We don't like Tim Allen. He's outspoken against like,
- 1:02:36you know, in our politics and things like that.
- 1:02:39And we're just gonna
- 1:02:40Yeah.
- 1:02:41like we're just gonna go off in this new direction.
- 1:02:43Like I'm not saying that this movie would have succeeded if it
- 1:02:47had Tim Allen's voice. It would have helped.
- 1:02:50But also I just feel like they could have just made
- 1:02:53I don't
- 1:02:53even know.
- 1:02:54Yeah, it I think they just could have made a straightforward buzzlight year
- 1:02:58adventure
- 1:02:59Yeah.
- 1:03:00without it being as like convoluted as this,
- 1:03:04you know? I don't know. Just be like this is a spinoff.
- 1:03:05I agree.
- 1:03:07I think there's a way it could work if you recast
- 1:03:12it and you rewrite it.
- 1:03:15Like, the story just is confusing and I don't like the choices with the story.
- 1:03:21I don't like how
- 1:03:21The s the the concept
- 1:03:23is confusing, the story is confusing,
- 1:03:25the the choice of the actor is confusing 'cause it's not the same
- 1:03:28guy that's been voicing him for twenty years,
- 1:03:30like
- 1:03:31Right.
- 1:03:32Yeah. And if it's a toy, how hard is it to really even
- 1:03:34Yeah.
- 1:03:34match the voice? And it's more confusing because Disney already has a
- 1:03:39f a superhero franchise, sci fi franchise with this guy.
- 1:03:45And there's a lot of similarities to those movies.
- 1:03:47Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:51And he sounds exactly the same as Captain America.
- 1:03:54This is my least favorite Chris Evans movie.
- 1:04:00And I don't even hate the guy.
- 1:04:02No, I I and I don't think he did bad or anything.
- 1:04:06I like I don't feel like it's Chris Evans' fault.
- 1:04:09I just think it's just not someone should have said no to this concept,
- 1:04:14just just
- 1:04:15Yeah.
- 1:04:15in general. Like I I just don't feel like this was I don't wanna be like,
- 1:04:20this movie never should have been made,
- 1:04:22but like yeah, I feel like I feel like they shouldn't have made this one.
- 1:04:23Maybe Maybe they should Mighty Ducks game changers this sucker.
- 1:04:32yeah, so I I don't think I would rewatch this movie.
- 1:04:37~ I just really didn't I enjoyed
- 1:04:40With you on that.
- 1:04:41I enjoyed actually the first half of it,
- 1:04:43but as it progressed, it I just kinda lost interest in it.
- 1:04:47The more
- 1:04:48Yeah.
- 1:04:48like dumb choices it kinda made,
- 1:04:50I was just like, I don't I'm not that invested in this.
- 1:04:56I I could see myself watching it maybe one time but like on accident.
- 1:05:00Yeah. Like I I I do you know,
- 1:05:05I'm a fan of the franchise. What will happen is like a certain number
- 1:05:09of years will go by and I'll like,
- 1:05:10Was that really that bad? Was I too hard on it?
- 1:05:12Yes. Yeah.
- 1:05:12And I'll give
- 1:05:13it another shot and then I'll be like,
- 1:05:15I don't think I should
- 1:05:15it's worse than I thought.
- 1:05:17I no, it's not good. But
- 1:05:19I just yeah. I I'm not gonna write it off completely again 'cause I'm gonna watch
- 1:05:25it it maybe. But I just don't care about it.
- 1:05:30I'm not like actively hating on it even though it sounds like I am.
- 1:05:33'Cause I have been. I don't know.
- 1:05:37Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:38Whatever. Alright, I'm giving it a zero again on that.
- 1:05:41Okay. We're ~ for four so far.
- 1:05:42The sensei sh that's okay.
- 1:05:44Okay.
- 1:05:47There's still bonus points to be had.
- 1:05:48Yeah, okay. Yeah.
- 1:05:49Just stop thinking about our total until the end at this point.
- 1:05:52Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:54Alright. Well we've got the sensational set design.
- 1:05:57~ or film locations.
- 1:06:00Filming Okay, so we've got the sensational set design test
- 1:06:06and or the filming locations. So basically,
- 1:06:10would this pass as a cool location to c like create in a theme park?
- 1:06:15Or like ~
- 1:06:19Just hack how memorable is the world that they've built.
- 1:06:26Well it's
- 1:06:27I mean I I I thought it was a good design kind of seeing how they it's basically
- 1:06:34like a crash landed I mean, giant star cruiser ship or whatever.
- 1:06:38Yeah. The world
- 1:06:39And so seeing
- 1:06:41how they like develop their community over time was kind of interesting
- 1:06:45Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 1:06:46and how they kind of develop
- 1:06:48~
- 1:06:50I liked that. And a after a while it's like
- 1:06:52Yeah.
- 1:06:53sort of the walking dead where after the first couple of seasons everyone's just
- 1:06:57like these guys are not intimidating,
- 1:07:00so you just keep at an arm's length
- 1:07:02Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:03with the the the viant vineyard creature.
- 1:07:07~ right, yeah.
- 1:07:09So they're just like stabbing it.
- 1:07:11Yeah. ~
- 1:07:15Yeah, as far as like the planet goes,
- 1:07:16like it was it kinda had this like green haze to it.
- 1:07:19Like actually when he comes back from one of the missions,
- 1:07:22it almost looked like he landed in Dagobah almost.
- 1:07:25Just like not the swamp water,
- 1:07:25Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was very Star Warsy,
- 1:07:26but like had that kind of vibe to it.
- 1:07:29It was. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:30I'll say that. The planet was Star Warsy,
- 1:07:32for sure. That's
- 1:07:33what made me feel like this is just like a four episode arc on the Clone Wars.
- 1:07:38Yeah.
- 1:07:39Yeah. Mhm. I I
- 1:07:41And
- 1:07:42instantly thought of when there's that scene near the end when Kiki Palmer's
- 1:07:48character, like she's on that ship and she opens up and you see that
- 1:07:51big space window and she's like then she gets scared.
- 1:07:53Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:54But it felt like the w
- 1:07:57Death Star.
- 1:07:58~ Rise of the Resistance at Disney when you're like you feel like you're on
- 1:08:02~ right.
- 1:08:03like it opens up and you see that that window.
- 1:08:05That's what it reminded me of.
- 1:08:07So
- 1:08:08I don't know, I I feel like this is kind of a pass.
- 1:08:10I'll give it I'll give it a point a little bit.
- 1:08:10Yeah.
- 1:08:12I I do feel like everything's a little beige and a little too earthy toned.
- 1:08:15Yeah.
- 1:08:16~
- 1:08:19There is a bonus point available if this world can be turned into a theme park ride.
- 1:08:24Well, it kinda already has,
- 1:08:28but for Star Wars, what you were just saying.
- 1:08:31And I don't think they would turn this into a theme park ride.
- 1:08:32yeah. Well there is a buzzlight you're right,
- 1:08:34Any of it.
- 1:08:35but it's based on the the two D animated cartoon show,
- 1:08:38Absolutely.
- 1:08:38so not this.
- 1:08:41Not based on this.
- 1:08:44Yeah.
- 1:08:47Mmm. Okay, well we'll just give it the one point.
- 1:08:49One point.
- 1:08:51Our first point of the episode.
- 1:08:53Wow. Alright,
- 1:08:57so our proprietary props test,
- 1:09:00which is test number six, is there a standout prop that you can identify
- 1:09:06the movie from said prop? I've got two.
- 1:09:10Okay. Go ahead.
- 1:09:12I was thinking maybe the crystal that but it just somehow keeps what made
- 1:09:18me so mad about it, it's like the Guffin.
- 1:09:20MacGuffin?
- 1:09:20Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 1:09:24That's the word I'm yeah. It just keeps getting out of their hands and
- 1:09:28Yeah.
- 1:09:28they're like re
- 1:09:31Mm-hmm.
- 1:09:32They're always reaching for it while they're fighting or escaping.
- 1:09:36Mm-hmm.
- 1:09:36And th th that was too much of that,
- 1:09:39I thought. But that's a prop.
- 1:09:44That's true. Yeah. The the source of what not I guess it's their fuel or whatever.
- 1:09:50It was kinda like the
- 1:09:50The fuel.
- 1:09:51the solo movie where they're trying to get that like coaxium to go
- 1:09:54Yeah. Hmm. Yeah, this is a such a Star Wars movie,
- 1:09:54on the Kessel run. ~ it's there's so many Star Wars
- 1:09:59kind of. But it I don't get the Star Wars vibe.
- 1:10:01connections, but yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:03It's like a Rogue One or Solo
- 1:10:05vibe. It's not
- 1:10:07Yeah.
- 1:10:08It's not like opening of Toy Story 2,
- 1:10:11which you wanted.
- 1:10:13Yeah, I mean I yeah.
- 1:10:15That being said, my other prop which I love is the Darksaber.
- 1:10:22to ~ yeah. The machete basically going through the the vines and the jungle.
- 1:10:22They have lightsabers in this movie.
- 1:10:24Yeah. That's cool.
- 1:10:27That was cool. That
- 1:10:29It's pretty cool.
- 1:10:31was cool.
- 1:10:33Yeah, there's just a lot of like tech devices that I think of or like I
- 1:10:38d I don't know. There was that thing that they like set down that box they
- 1:10:41set on the ground and it would like beam them up to Zerg's ship.
- 1:10:45~
- 1:10:45Yeah.
- 1:10:47but I don't know. If I was gonna go with one I'd probably go with that
- 1:10:50~ that weapon. The Darksaber
- 1:10:53Yeah.
- 1:10:54thing. I actually like I Googled ~ Lightyear props and like there's people that have
- 1:10:59made like versions of this, so
- 1:11:03I feel like I would give it a point loosely.
- 1:11:06I because I didn't really
- 1:11:07loosely. I'll give it a point too.
- 1:11:10think of many many other things,
- 1:11:13so
- 1:11:16No, I'm good with that.
- 1:11:20Right, we've got fantastic foods and where to find them.
- 1:11:23Go ahead.
- 1:11:25Any foods stand out to you, Jonathan?
- 1:11:26Any? Any of
- 1:11:27I I thought this would
- 1:11:28be a fun one. This is the first Toy Story movie to have foods in it.
- 1:11:33Not really. The Cheetos
- 1:11:34Not good food.
- 1:11:37Yeah, yeah, yeah. ~
- 1:11:39okay, what did you think of the the boxes,
- 1:11:42like the meals? He would like crack
- 1:11:43Like the R. E's.
- 1:11:44yeah, he would like crack the box and open it up and it would
- 1:11:46Carnel.
- 1:11:46inflate it. It reminded me of like those like gummy pizzas
- 1:11:53or something like that. I don't know.
- 1:11:55Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 1:11:56When they make food that
- 1:11:57No.
- 1:11:58is just out of gummy material,
- 1:11:59that's what that looked like to me.
- 1:12:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:02Yeah, I think I hate to say it.
- 1:12:07I would try that. I would take that backpacking.
- 1:12:08Yeah. Yeah, okay.
- 1:12:12I'm not intrigued. I mean if it was there,
- 1:12:15I'd be like, you know what, I will try that.
- 1:12:17That's really weird. But I try weird stuff.
- 1:12:18Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 1:12:21Not I would not say I want to reach into the TV and go and eat it.
- 1:12:27Like I th I'm not appetized by that very much.
- 1:12:27Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah,
- 1:12:30I don't know.
- 1:12:31it didn't
- 1:12:33it it didn't look good to me really.
- 1:12:35I don't know.
- 1:12:36It was memorable.
- 1:12:38It was memorable, yeah. ~ what
- 1:12:41It did not look good.
- 1:12:42yeah. How how do you feel about the sandwich scene?
- 1:12:46The sandwich
- 1:12:47I liked that idea that the idea of a sandwich changes over time.
- 1:12:53And it kinda already has, 'cause people are low carb these days,
- 1:12:59so there's like, I don't want bread on my sandwich.
- 1:13:00Yeah.
- 1:13:02Yeah, sure. I get that aspect,
- 1:13:04So I thought that wa I thought that was cool.
- 1:13:04yeah. Yeah.
- 1:13:05But
- 1:13:06like did the food itself look really good?
- 1:13:09No. It they described it as wet.
- 1:13:11And that's the best part.
- 1:13:12Yeah. Like I just felt I
- 1:13:15I just felt like I could feel it in my hands as they were eating it.
- 1:13:18Yeah. I could feel it sli slide through the package while it was
- 1:13:18It was very detailed. The cold,
- 1:13:21cold cuts. Yeah.
- 1:13:24~ nope.
- 1:13:26Yeah. I I also just thought it was just such a weird scene.
- 1:13:31Like the humor and like I don't know you said you kinda liked it,
- 1:13:35but I I kinda felt like that was just a weird moment of just like this
- 1:13:39is just humor that isn't really connecting,
- 1:13:41I feel like, for me.
- 1:13:43I didn't find it as humor I wasn't saying I liked the humor.
- 1:13:45Mm. Yeah. Sure.
- 1:13:45I said I liked the idea that over time the idea of a sandwich can change.
- 1:13:48Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:13:51But I don't I don't there's both of the foods in this movie are very memorable,
- 1:13:55but I'm not gonna give it a point.
- 1:13:57I don't think.
- 1:13:57They're memorable, but
- 1:13:58yeah. Wow. I thought this would be interesting to talk about the foods
- 1:14:03on this one though, but yeah.
- 1:14:03No, it was.
- 1:14:05Yeah.
- 1:14:05And honestly, I can identify th from that I can identify the movie from
- 1:14:11a picture of that food. It was very memorable.
- 1:14:12That's true. But it's just
- 1:14:15So I wonder
- 1:14:15if we should give it the point based off of that.
- 1:14:17Not based off of do I wanna eat it.
- 1:14:20I
- 1:14:20I feel like it's gotta be good though.
- 1:14:22Like you gotta want to eat it.
- 1:14:22It does have to be good. Binging
- 1:14:24Yeah.
- 1:14:25with Babish has to make it and make it well.
- 1:14:27Yeah. Hmm.
- 1:14:32All right. Nothing.
- 1:14:34All right.
- 1:14:40Mm.
- 1:14:41Ha ha.
- 1:14:41Charlie, what do think about the cinematography and animation?
- 1:14:47Well, I I thought it was really good.
- 1:14:49Like I I thought this movie looks good as far as the detail.
- 1:14:53Yeah. Yeah, I guess it looks good.
- 1:14:54~
- 1:14:56like it's not the style that I wanted this movie to be,
- 1:14:59but if it's going for this look,
- 1:15:01then like ~ yeah,
- 1:15:04I mean I I feel like it it does ~ actually let me let me show you
- 1:15:08a screenshot of what I got on my my screen here.
- 1:15:10~ Cause
- 1:15:14Just going back to my thoughts on it being like a astronaut kind of space movie
- 1:15:18or something like that, like this shot here looks like the poster
- 1:15:23for that like first man movie with Ryan Gosling,
- 1:15:25Yeah, it looks normal.
- 1:15:26you know?
- 1:15:26Like that's that's kind of the vibes I got from the trailer.
- 1:15:29But ~
- 1:15:29Yeah.
- 1:15:32yeah, I was just gonna pull that up,
- 1:15:33but like I do think that it has a good look to it.
- 1:15:37Some of it all look kind of looks
- 1:15:38I think so.
- 1:15:39the same, but I I feel like the animation is really good.
- 1:15:42I I feel like your counter argument might be like,
- 1:15:45it's too good, you know? But also it's Yeah,
- 1:15:48No, I've said that for the past couple Toy Story movies.
- 1:15:51yeah.
- 1:15:51I won't say that because it's not supposed to be toys.
- 1:15:55What I okay, here's the question too,
- 1:15:58just to get a little more meta on it.
- 1:16:01Is this this is the movie that Andy saw in theaters in nineteen ninety five.
- 1:16:06The animation was not that good in
- 1:16:09No it was not.
- 1:16:11Is was this like a live action movie,
- 1:16:13but we're seeing a C G version?
- 1:16:15It's
- 1:16:16yes, this is a live action movie because Andy is C G.
- 1:16:19That's that's where you're getting confused.
- 1:16:24Okay, I think that hurt my brain a little bit.
- 1:16:26So he saw
- 1:16:28Andy is seeing
- 1:16:28it just like himself.
- 1:16:30Yeah. ~ 'cause they're the same.
- 1:16:32It this would be the equivalent to us seeing
- 1:16:35a live action movie. Yeah.
- 1:16:36I see what you're saying. Okay.
- 1:16:38So it's not a different format.
- 1:16:40It's just a live action movie.
- 1:16:43Yeah. Just like toys would be.
- 1:16:46The toys are real life for him too.
- 1:16:50Yeah.
- 1:16:50So
- 1:16:53Well, I mean I I think based on the look of it and something,
- 1:16:57that was something I was excited about this movie.
- 1:16:59Like it could have a cool look and design to it and everything
- 1:17:02Yeah.
- 1:17:02and might be a cool like sci fi story.
- 1:17:04So I think it gets the cinematography point.
- 1:17:08Yeah. I mean I thought it has lots of good lasers and lens flares and
- 1:17:14but there were some parts at the beginning that,
- 1:17:16on the other hand, makes me feel like this was made by the creators
- 1:17:20of Dogpick Stuffins.
- 1:17:22Yeah.
- 1:17:23A little bit at the beginning seemed a little choppy,
- 1:17:27like that weekly Disney Jr.
- 1:17:31animation but overall I
- 1:17:33Yeah. I would say I didn't love
- 1:17:36thought it looked good.
- 1:17:37some of the character designs,
- 1:17:39but I guess when I'm thinking of it,
- 1:17:40I'm thinking of like the scenes in the ship and space and the planet
- 1:17:44and but like some of the character designs I didn't I didn't really love
- 1:17:48the animation style. It they just kinda looked
- 1:17:51Do you think this movie
- 1:17:52would be better? Not as a live action remake,
- 1:17:54I'm not putting that out in the world,
- 1:17:56but
- 1:17:56Mm-hmm.
- 1:17:57if they just made this a live movie,
- 1:18:01not animated, not even by Pixar.
- 1:18:03Just Disney made it.
- 1:18:10But not a remake. Like, had they not made this,
- 1:18:13had they j
- 1:18:13Had they if
- 1:18:13this was instead of this, yeah.
- 1:18:17~ I don't I don't think so.
- 1:18:20I think there's too many confusing plot points and like storylines that just don't
- 1:18:26Trying to help it out a little bit.
- 1:18:26really Yeah,
- 1:18:27no. I mean it I think the movie looks good and that that is a credit to it,
- 1:18:31Yeah. Okay.
- 1:18:32I would say.
- 1:18:34I'll give it the point, I think.
- 1:18:36I think it's I think it no however the set design I did not like as much.
- 1:18:43even though we gave that the point.
- 1:18:48~ it it did do a good job of me feeling like it was kind of Star Warsy.
- 1:18:54Although it didn't have the heart of a Star Wars movie.
- 1:18:59So, alright. Costume test. This is one where I feel like this
- 1:19:05is a easy one to to pass. Because.
- 1:19:13These suits are so cool. Like,
- 1:19:16You like this? Yeah.
- 1:19:16I like
- 1:19:17the different the multicolored,
- 1:19:19like Iron Man 3
- 1:19:21Mm-hmm.
- 1:19:22new types of suits to have. I
- 1:19:24Yeah.
- 1:19:25like that a lot. I like the blue and I like the red ones too.
- 1:19:28But like they're just so real and like metallically like
- 1:19:32Yeah.
- 1:19:33I guess it looks like debris hit them.
- 1:19:35I
- 1:19:35Mm-hmm.
- 1:19:36I feel like I've seen a video of some dude doing the cosplay of this suit.
- 1:19:43Yeah.
- 1:19:43And it was
- 1:19:43like a real or maybe it was just a Iron Man version.
- 1:19:47It was a Buzz Lightyear colored Iron Man.
- 1:19:53Iron Man's ~ Yeah.
- 1:19:53And I was like, that's pretty cool.
- 1:19:56~
- 1:20:00Yeah. I think it is cool. It is a cool look to it.
- 1:20:01It it it it gives it a new look to the Buzz
- 1:20:03Mm-hmm.
- 1:20:05Light Your generic costume. So
- 1:20:07I
- 1:20:08I was confused on like some of the functionality of it 'cause like
- 1:20:13it was just different. Like the red button was like a
- 1:20:15Uh-huh.
- 1:20:15pull cord, there was no wings.
- 1:20:18Yeah.
- 1:20:19But they kind of explained that later on,
- 1:20:21like they kinda changed the suit.
- 1:20:23But again, I felt like that was like a a moment of like you didn't have
- 1:20:27to give that a backstory. Like
- 1:20:30Yeah.
- 1:20:31But having said that, I did think the the suits looked cool.
- 1:20:36Speaking of the story, like I almost want them to redo this and
- 1:20:40do a different story. Like make a sequel for Lightyear.
- 1:20:43Just have a better story. Cause this origin
- 1:20:46I yeah.
- 1:20:48is just kind of annoying to understand.
- 1:20:50Yeah. It's not g I
- 1:20:53yeah. I I didn't agree with like the premise of this movie,
- 1:20:57but I feel like there is a way where they could have done this well.
- 1:21:01Yeah.
- 1:21:01It's like this is a side
- 1:21:03w a side comic edition that's like very rare that nobody really read.
- 1:21:08~
- 1:21:13What is the episode? Comics?
- 1:21:18What's the number numbering system for comics?
- 1:21:23Editions?
- 1:21:27You know what I'm talking about?
- 1:21:28The volume?
- 1:21:32Anyways, it's like if there was a comic book series on Buzz Lightyear Star Command
- 1:21:37Like a variant or something or I don't know.
- 1:21:40No
- 1:21:42I don't know what I'm thinking of.
- 1:21:43Anyways, if there was a comic book series if this was based off
- 1:21:47of comic book series, which it's trying us f to get us to understand that,
- 1:21:51Mm-hmm.
- 1:21:51because it's basically Marvel,
- 1:21:53this would not be like the main story.
- 1:21:57It seems like a side plot story that
- 1:22:00shouldn't have been like this is the origin movie.
- 1:22:05Like this is his main story of him
- 1:22:05Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:22:07trapping his friends on this planet.
- 1:22:11I don't know. They could have done better with the story.
- 1:22:15Sorry.
- 1:22:16Yeah. Yeah. Give it a point.
- 1:22:16But the costume's great. I
- 1:22:19like I'll give it a point. I'll give it a point.
- 1:22:22Mm-hmm.
- 1:22:24I really did like the blue the blue suit a lot.
- 1:22:27That one was cool. And speaking of cool,
- 1:22:30we've have our last test. The cool credits test.
- 1:22:32Okay.
- 1:22:34Now Jonathan saw points possible.
- 1:22:36So this factors in the opening points,
- 1:22:40opening credits and in credits,
- 1:22:42but there's a bonus point if it has a good DVD menu.
- 1:22:46Okay. Okay.
- 1:22:49It fails the opening because it's not the opening of Toy Story Two.
- 1:22:53Okay.
- 1:22:55I just it should have been no.
- 1:22:57I don't I don't think there are
- 1:22:58I don't think there are opening credits.
- 1:23:00It just goes into the movie.
- 1:23:01it's like an opening it's like a cold open and then they start
- 1:23:05the like the opening titles a little bit later on.
- 1:23:09~ and then the credits I don't yeah,
- 1:23:14I don't think there's anything great about it.
- 1:23:15The credits themselves
- 1:23:16Yeah.
- 1:23:19No. There's
- 1:23:22Sno no bloopers at the end.
- 1:23:22the There's two in credit
- 1:23:27scenes and it's the laser shield guy in the office.
- 1:23:33Yeah.
- 1:23:35s like, that's funny. Meh, I don't care.
- 1:23:37And then there's a stupid spooky image
- 1:23:43of Berserg's eyes light up as he's floating in space.
- 1:23:48Whoa, he's alive still.
- 1:23:48Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 1:23:51Teasing a sequel.
- 1:23:58I'm gonna give that a zero.
- 1:24:00Yeah, I I I would say so.
- 1:24:02However,
- 1:24:03D V D menu, I looked it up. It's boring.
- 1:24:06Okay. Yeah, had it. Okay.
- 1:24:09No, but it is it is good. I think it's it's passable because they tried.
- 1:24:14Okay.
- 1:24:14I feel like in twenty twenty two you don't have to try very hard.
- 1:24:18Yeah, no one buys those except for me,
- 1:24:19you know.
- 1:24:20It it w it still wasn't good. But it's basically a mission control screen
- 1:24:28where it has like the vitals of the ship and like the cat and but there's no like
- 1:24:37It's just random shapes and numbers across the screen.
- 1:24:41But they are moving.
- 1:24:46In this
- 1:24:46Yeah. Okay.
- 1:24:48but it's not like super exciting.
- 1:24:51But
- 1:24:51Yeah.
- 1:24:52it's enough to get the one point,
- 1:24:53I'd say. So
- 1:24:56Yeah, I just watched it on Disney Plus.
- 1:24:58That's where I watched all the shorts and stuff,
- 1:25:00so Yeah.
- 1:25:01Yeah. Well
- 1:25:03hey you wanna total this up, Jonathan?
- 1:25:05We can do that. You ready for this to be a stapleist picture?
- 1:25:07Yeah. Let's
- 1:25:11I don't think it's going to.
- 1:25:12We have one, two, three, four,
- 1:25:14and five. And I'd say we were very generous.
- 1:25:19Okay, that I feel like I feel like that's what we gave Space Camp.
- 1:25:23So
- 1:25:24Yeah, maybe.
- 1:25:26yeah. ~ listeners,
- 1:25:29I enjoyed Space Camp more than I liked this movie.
- 1:25:32But that's the the test is spoken and ~
- 1:25:34Yeah. This movie's a quack.
- 1:25:38it's a quack.
- 1:25:39It this is an aggressive quack.
- 1:25:41Yeah. I I ~ it's one of those things like
- 1:25:47I feel like I can't I d I don't know.
- 1:25:50I I almost want to tell people to watch it just so that they can like have seen it.
- 1:25:54But also like
- 1:25:55Yeah.
- 1:25:56you do not need to watch this movie.
- 1:25:57~
- 1:25:59like fanfic, it's like Cursed Child.
- 1:26:01You don't need to read that.
- 1:26:01Yeah. It's almost
- 1:26:04I it is kind of like I wanted to go and and do all the spin offs and stuff,
- 1:26:08but it is kind of like a bummer to end our like Toy Story episodes on,
- 1:26:12but
- 1:26:13Nah,
- 1:26:14maybe we could do a bonus episode on it after this.
- 1:26:16Yeah. But
- 1:26:18we'll see. But yeah, I
- 1:26:20Yeah. Well no,
- 1:26:21'cause they're making Toy Story Six,
- 1:26:23surely.
- 1:26:24They yeah, they might.
- 1:26:25They have to.
- 1:26:29Well we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that that's not a quack,
- 1:26:31but I'm hopeful. They they've been.
- 1:26:34Nah, I'm hopeful. Tor Story Five is really good.
- 1:26:35It was good. Yeah.
- 1:26:36If you haven't seen it yet, listener,
- 1:26:38go see Tor Story Five. It was really good.
- 1:26:39Then listen to our episode.
- 1:26:40You don't have to see
- 1:26:41you don't have to see light here.
- 1:26:43It's a quack.
- 1:26:43No, yeah.
- 1:26:46Yikes.
- 1:26:50All right. Well, I guess we should wrap it up then.
- 1:26:53Alright, well another day, another quack.
- 1:26:56Well everyone, our only question left is Do you actually like this movie?
- 1:27:02And if so, why? Cause we we don't we don't see it.

- 1:27:21Yeah, I really did too.
- 1:27:23I just didn't enjoy it.
- 1:27:25And I'll even go another watch with an open mind.
