- 1:10Speaker 2: Well, well, well, well, well, good morning. It is Thursday
- 2:02Speaker 2: now already the seventh of May. Got the AIREDWN podcast
- 2:07Speaker 2: live from North Main Street and Barry. It hasn't decided
- 2:10Speaker 2: yet whether it's gonna be sunny or cloudy. We're gonna
- 2:12Speaker 2: have a mix of both today. We're looking at forty
- 2:16Speaker 2: five ish, forty three, forty four, forty five somewhere right
- 2:20Speaker 2: around that right now. But sun and clouds both in
- 2:22Speaker 2: the mix today fifty six tonight thirty six degrees. Tomorrow
- 2:28Speaker 2: Friday fifty four mix of sun and clouds, kind of
- 2:31Speaker 2: a little bit of a carbon copy of what we
- 2:33Speaker 2: have today, and then Saturday pretty good in improvement sixty
- 2:37Speaker 2: one sun and clouds both. And looks like it's gonna
- 2:41Speaker 2: be a washout on Sunday. I don't know if I
- 2:44Speaker 2: should say wash out. It's gonna rain on Sunday. I
- 2:47Speaker 2: don't know if it's gonna be raining every hour of
- 2:49Speaker 2: the day, but it's gonna be wet on Sunday, which
- 2:53Speaker 2: we do need the wet weather. We've got some really
- 2:57Speaker 2: really big VIPs in the studio here this morning that
- 3:01Speaker 2: we're going to get to in just a second. Shout
- 3:02Speaker 2: out to Gothier's Quality Grounds and Maintenance of Orange. Going

- 3:59Speaker 2: about Camp Street between Hill Street and Tremont Street gonna
- 4:03Speaker 2: be closed at times for the next couple of weeks
- 4:10Speaker 2: during the workday. Between Hill Street and Delmont Street is
- 4:15Speaker 2: still going to be closed. It looks like through Saturday
- 4:19Speaker 2: at this point, so expect delays and exercise some patients
- 4:24Speaker 2: if you can. Also. Route one hundred in Plymouth going
- 4:28Speaker 2: to close for two weeks beginning May twenty ninth. Was
- 4:32Speaker 2: reading about this last night. Looks like from seven am
- 4:36Speaker 2: until seven am on June twelfth, so for quite a
- 4:41Speaker 2: while there. For the emergency replacement of a new bridge,
- 4:46Speaker 2: A signed detour is going to be using Route one
- 4:50Speaker 2: hundred A and that'll be in place, and that's expected
- 4:56Speaker 2: to last. Well, it's gonna be. It's gonna be adding
- 4:59Speaker 2: on at least about ten minutes or so to your drive,
- 5:02Speaker 2: So expect delays. Vermont lawmakers continuing to debate education reform
- 5:09Speaker 2: and rising property taxes as proposals targeting school restructuring and
- 5:15Speaker 2: spending caps through the state House. Lots of chat about that.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I was reading pinch about that last night on the couch.
- 5:26Speaker 2: We have the murder trial underway in Bennington involving the
- 5:30Speaker 2: twenty twenty two shooting death of Ulysses Ivy. Prosecutors say
- 5:35Speaker 2: the victim identified the subject or they suspect rather in
- 5:40Speaker 2: a nine to one to one call moments after being shot.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Unbelievable story. Upper Valley murder trial also drawing attention as
- 5:48Speaker 2: Lance Goodrich stands trial in the death of his cousin,
- 5:53Speaker 2: Brooke Goodrich, despite what prosecutors describe as record or recorded
- 5:59Speaker 2: rap recorded confessions. A Burlington teenager accused in the Domino's
- 6:06Speaker 2: parking lot shooting in South Burlington back in court today.
- 6:11Speaker 2: It will continue to be held without bail. That's a story.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Read that one too. Just unbelievable stuff that's going on
- 6:18Speaker 2: here in Vermont. Let's see what else do we have?
- 6:23Speaker 2: Gas prices climbing. Vermont inspectors are making sure that drivers
- 6:27Speaker 2: are actually getting every gallon that they pay for at
- 6:30Speaker 2: the pump. The State Weights and Measures Inspectors are traveling
- 6:36Speaker 2: across Vermont testing about six thousand gas pumps to verify
- 6:43Speaker 2: accuracy and protect consumers from being shorted. National headlines. The
- 6:49Speaker 2: big one that's trending this morning, the manhunt for that
- 6:52Speaker 2: Tennessee Special Forces veteran accused of shooting his wife ended
- 6:57Speaker 2: when his body was found yesterday Wednesday. So what a story, man,
- 7:03Speaker 2: It's just wild stuff going on in the news right now.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I want to shift gears and bring on two of
- 7:09Speaker 2: the frankly, some of the best looking guys around Central
- 7:14Speaker 2: from out right now. Steve England and Bob Campo. Don't
- 7:18Speaker 2: be so modest there, Steve. You know that you know
- 7:21Speaker 2: that the women are tripping over themselves over you, buddy.
- 7:24Speaker 2: How are you man? How is life? Guys? Good? This
- 7:28Speaker 2: is good, Bob, Welcome to the microphones man.
- 7:30Speaker 3: First time here, JD.
- 7:31Speaker 2: This is your first time on the air with you. Yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 2: my man, we got to make a habit of doing this.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I'd love to.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah. You've got a lot of stuff going on at
- 7:39Speaker 2: the Elks. Yes, next year is going to be huge.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I've sentennial one hundred years of the Barry Elks. Gonna
- 7:47Speaker 4: be a lot of celebrations next year, twenty twenty seven,
- 7:52Speaker 4: parades and celebrations, everything, visits from the national President.
- 7:57Speaker 3: It's going to be a big, big time.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I know a place where you can that you could
- 8:03Speaker 2: use that would be amazing for this is called the
- 8:05Speaker 2: Berry Elks Lodge. Yeah, I mean, is it not like that?
- 8:08Speaker 2: One of the best areas. I mean, you've got a big, big,
- 8:11Speaker 2: huge dance floor, huge stage. Get you to give them
- 8:14Speaker 2: a call, get in touch with them.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I might know somebody over there.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So what's your your position there? You're you're the abort chair.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Right, No, I've I've had many positions there. Now I'm
- 8:26Speaker 4: just simply a member there. I have a position with
- 8:29Speaker 4: the Grand Lodge of Elks where I oversee the lodges
- 8:33Speaker 4: in the state the help of our state sponsor, past
- 8:37Speaker 4: national President David Carr. We have two district deputies, one
- 8:43Speaker 4: in the North, one in the South. So we're there
- 8:45Speaker 4: to help the lodges with any issues they may have,
- 8:48Speaker 4: give them advice, just try to help them grow and
- 8:52Speaker 4: and become good Elks lodges.
- 8:54Speaker 3: And we have we are growing. It's amazing.
- 8:56Speaker 4: The Elks is growing phenomenally in the state of Vermont,
- 9:00Speaker 4: especially down south Bennington. But Barry Lodge has seen a
- 9:03Speaker 4: lot of growth of these past few years and getting
- 9:06Speaker 4: younger members in and that's what it's all about, JD.
- 9:08Speaker 4: That's the future and to help them help us with
- 9:12Speaker 4: our cause. As a matter of fact, the Barry Elks
- 9:15Speaker 4: has just received a charter for what we call the Antlers.
- 9:19Speaker 3: The Antlers Group.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Is a subsidiary of the Barry Lodge and it has
- 9:23Speaker 4: their own set of officers and it's for younger kids
- 9:26Speaker 4: from twelve to twenty and they do all sorts of
- 9:31Speaker 4: community service. They all need community service to graduate these days,
- 9:35Speaker 4: so it's a wonderful thing. Gets them involved in help them.
- 9:39Speaker 4: You know, our community youth veterans, that's what we do
- 9:42Speaker 4: over there, and the community is really big. So we're
- 9:46Speaker 4: getting them involved now. So yeah, awesome.
- 9:50Speaker 2: In fifteen thirty five, just made the national magazine.
- 9:54Speaker 4: They did Exalted Ruler Chris Truhan and his group over
- 9:58Speaker 4: there doing phenomenal work. We made the national magazine this
- 10:02Speaker 4: month for preparing welcome home kits for veterans, primarily a
- 10:08Speaker 4: veterans place over here in Central Vermont North veteran transitions
- 10:12Speaker 4: into a new home or apartment. We provide a kit
- 10:14Speaker 4: with all the necessities they need to get a running start.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I think that's so great man, Thank you, big kudos
- 10:22Speaker 2: to you guys, everyone everyone that's involved over there. And
- 10:26Speaker 2: Steve England. Look at the comment we're getting here from
- 10:28Speaker 2: Stacy Holten saying double trouble perfect this morning.
- 10:33Speaker 3: That's every man, Stacey.
- 10:35Speaker 2: He's down zipping around on the golf part right now
- 10:38Speaker 2: in Florida.
- 10:38Speaker 3: He probably is. We're here in the cold and rain
- 10:42Speaker 3: and he's getting a tan on top of that.
- 10:44Speaker 2: No, thanks Stace, Oh my god, And what a what
- 10:49Speaker 2: a long time big hitter at the Burry Auks right there.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Oh, Stace is amazing.
- 10:55Speaker 4: He's a past exalted ruler over there, done wonderful work
- 10:59Speaker 4: with his wife Tammy. Uh, you know, was the state
- 11:02Speaker 4: treasurer for a lot of years. This treasure over was
- 11:05Speaker 4: a bookkeeper over at Barry Elks and held positions within
- 11:08Speaker 4: the lodge as well. So Tammy and Stacy A big
- 11:11Speaker 4: shout out to them.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and a big strong man like that complaining that
- 11:16Speaker 2: he's cold all the time and he's got to go
- 11:18Speaker 2: down to Florida.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Well, I think you know what I'm saying. Well, JD,
- 11:21Speaker 4: I think there's better karaoke down.
- 11:23Speaker 2: There, because you know it's Stacey and Wednesday night bingo.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Oh well it could be. Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Uh Steve, good morning to you, pal. I'm so happy
- 11:35Speaker 2: to see you. We were just telling Bob a little
- 11:37Speaker 2: while ago. You've been on the air with me trillions
- 11:41Speaker 2: of times over the last at least one couple of decades.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Good morning, pal, How are you good? How are you feeling?
- 11:49Speaker 2: Oh great? What's new? What's going on? That's new? What's
- 11:52Speaker 2: going on? It's happening? Retirement? Yes, well I did that
- 11:56Speaker 2: two years ago. Yeah, but how'd that go? Oh? It
- 11:58Speaker 2: was great. One of the best things I ever did.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I love it. Take your wife to work, get home,
- 12:03Speaker 2: go back to bed. It's great. I think I remember you.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I think the last time you were in here, you
- 12:08Speaker 2: were you were saying that since retirement there you must
- 12:11Speaker 2: be traving Lisa nuts. Now she's still working. Really, she's
- 12:15Speaker 2: getting out of it. She's getting away from you pretty much.
- 12:17Speaker 2: It's good. Well, it's not like I'm sitting around you know.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I know that.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I believe me.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I know you. You're always a moving target. You're you're
- 12:26Speaker 2: always you got your hands in something. There's always something happening.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Squadron ten. Yes, Sons of the American Legion. Yes, please
- 12:33Speaker 2: do tell.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Okay, So I'm still commander there. We just had our
- 12:37Speaker 5: elections and uh, I said, yeah, you know, we want
- 12:39Speaker 5: to keep this thing going. Got a good bunch of
- 12:42Speaker 5: guys working with them or working with me rather and
- 12:45Speaker 5: uh and with the post and you know what, our
- 12:47Speaker 5: whole just like the Elks, our hearts about you know, community,
- 12:50Speaker 5: about serving the veterans and doing stuff with our you know,
- 12:53Speaker 5: for our youth. And really at this point after the flood,
- 12:59Speaker 5: we're really concentrate on trying to keep everything.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Going right, you know, and that's what, you know, what
- 13:07Speaker 2: we're going to be talking about. But which flat, I
- 13:09Speaker 2: mean I've lost track well four years ago, twenty twenty three. Yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 2: that took the hole.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Downstairs, wiped out our kitchen, our one hundred and sixty
- 13:17Speaker 5: four seat dining hall, our offices down there are all gone,
- 13:22Speaker 5: you know. And it's not it's nothing that's going to
- 13:23Speaker 5: get rebuilt because chances are and Barry's going.
- 13:26Speaker 2: To happen again.
- 13:27Speaker 5: It's just not worth, you know, dumping the money into
- 13:29Speaker 5: and so we've got some plans to potentially just some
- 13:33Speaker 5: stuff upstairs.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Lisa was telling me that you guys are planning
- 13:39Speaker 2: on turning it into us as seventies said, disco rollers
- 13:42Speaker 2: getting ring down there that's going on. That'd be fantastic
- 13:46Speaker 2: disco bowler. But we used to have a disco late Listen.
- 13:51Speaker 2: On a serious note, you guys lost right there at
- 13:56Speaker 2: the American Legion Post ten that basement. That basement kitchen
- 14:02Speaker 2: produced a massive amount of food and frankly love for decades. Yep.
- 14:11Speaker 2: That went out to our community. The countless, countless Thanksgiving
- 14:16Speaker 2: meals that were produced down there. We did at almost
- 14:19Speaker 2: thirty years, forty five fifty birds at a time. Oh yeah, a.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Couple of hundred punds of data is a couple of
- 14:25Speaker 5: hundred pouds of squash everything, pies, you couldn't count.
- 14:29Speaker 2: What has come out of that building is remarkable, what
- 14:35Speaker 2: it's done, what it's produced, and how it's connected our community. Absolutely,
- 14:40Speaker 2: it's such a landmark. Absolutely, it really is. And how
- 14:43Speaker 2: devastating to lose all of that equipment. And we're not
- 14:47Speaker 2: talking about some rinkity DNK cheap secondhand appliances. We're talking
- 14:53Speaker 2: about big commercial appliances down there. Absolutely stoves, ovens, sinks, everything, fridges,
- 15:01Speaker 2: walking and all that stuff.
- 15:04Speaker 5: So it's really I've got a hand halfs off to
- 15:07Speaker 5: the Cheryl our club manager because that being said, there's
- 15:12Speaker 5: still there's a little almost like a homeowner's kitchen on
- 15:15Speaker 5: the second floor that was there, you know from the
- 15:18Speaker 5: Doctor live there.
- 15:19Speaker 2: She's been able to do fellowships.
- 15:23Speaker 5: And do you know New Year's and and absolutely I
- 15:27Speaker 5: don't I'm not quite sure how she does it, but
- 15:29Speaker 5: she's been able to do that, you know, a little
- 15:31Speaker 5: tiny thing and still have some events that we don't
- 15:35Speaker 5: obviously we don't have the big meals like we used to.
- 15:37Speaker 2: We don't.
- 15:37Speaker 5: We haven't done Thanksgiving there since then. We worked with
- 15:41Speaker 5: one of the local churches excuse me, were enough ministries that.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Yes, and that worked pretty good for a couple of years.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Excuse me, stupid alergies.
- 15:53Speaker 5: But the logistics of that and stuff just kind of
- 15:58Speaker 5: we said, no, we really want to get to doing
- 16:00Speaker 5: this at our house.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, so, wow, that's kind of the
- 16:06Speaker 2: end plan. So Bob, how did how did you get
- 16:11Speaker 2: how did you get involved in all this?
- 16:12Speaker 4: Well, you know, we have a great thing here in Barry.
- 16:16Speaker 4: It's called the Veterans Council, which involves the VFW, the Legion,
- 16:20Speaker 4: and the Elks. I'm also a member of the Salas
- 16:24Speaker 4: Sons of the Legion due to my famous World War
- 16:27Speaker 4: II veteran grandfather, be a grandfather father.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Hopefully he's not listening this morning.
- 16:34Speaker 4: No, my grandfather passed unfortunately, but yeah, that will be
- 16:37Speaker 4: one hundred and one in August. And he keeps going
- 16:39Speaker 4: strong and he he loves getting out when we can
- 16:42Speaker 4: get him out and stopping by the post or Legion
- 16:46Speaker 4: or the Elks whatever we can do.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Uh.
- 16:49Speaker 4: But no, I'm also an auxiliary at the VFW. And
- 16:53Speaker 4: take a look out on Main Street, JD. See all
- 16:55Speaker 4: those flags out there. Thank all those people that put
- 16:58Speaker 4: those up this week.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of work, Yeah, a lot of work.
- 17:03Speaker 4: And so you know as Elks too, I mean I
- 17:06Speaker 4: have some My main focus is the Elks, but I
- 17:08Speaker 4: support all these other organizations and and you know the
- 17:12Speaker 4: Elks motto, as long as they are veterans, the Elks will.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Never forget them, and so we all work together.
- 17:17Speaker 4: We switch off on Memorial Day and Veteran Day leading
- 17:20Speaker 4: the ceremonies or the parades and stuff.
- 17:23Speaker 3: And uh, it's it's a labor of love. Yeah it is.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You guys always get those flags up. And I don't
- 17:33Speaker 2: know who the young buck is that's climbing the ladder
- 17:36Speaker 2: to got me, but who is it? Yeah? Yeah, sure, wow.
- 17:47Speaker 2: But it always looks so good. It always looks so good.
- 17:50Speaker 2: And and of course the big monster flag that we
- 17:53Speaker 2: have flying overhead here is incredible to and I'm so
- 17:56Speaker 2: glad that's still flying and catching wind man. It's just
- 18:00Speaker 2: awesome to see that. And it comes out what Veterans Day,
- 18:04Speaker 2: Memorial Day, fourth of July. Yeah, amazing, Thank you, for
- 18:12Speaker 2: doing that, Thanks to the whole Bury Area Veterans Council
- 18:15Speaker 2: for doing it. And there's so many, so many great people.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Ron Tomman's just just one of them. But you guys
- 18:20Speaker 2: are some of the VIPs as well. So so basically
- 18:25Speaker 2: you said, collectively, we need to we need to do
- 18:30Speaker 2: something to try to get a new kitchen, which is
- 18:36Speaker 2: not a matter of just running down and getting a one.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Of it's a big budget.
- 18:43Speaker 2: It's a huge I can't even imagine.
- 18:46Speaker 4: So Steve and I were talking and you know, and
- 18:48Speaker 4: he's they've been raising money, and I said, what can
- 18:51Speaker 4: the Elks do to help?
- 18:52Speaker 2: What can we do?
- 18:53Speaker 3: What if we do a Calcutta and.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Try to raise money for those of you that don't
- 18:57Speaker 4: know a Calcutta, We sell one hundred tickets at one
- 19:01Speaker 4: hundred dollars apiece, and then you get a ball. You
- 19:08Speaker 4: get one hundred dollars ball with that and they all
- 19:10Speaker 4: go in the bag and we pull and pull and
- 19:12Speaker 4: then the last one out wins the grand prize, which
- 19:14Speaker 4: is twenty five hundred dollars. They have a chance to
- 19:18Speaker 4: win this year. But the main part is, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 4: I like to think people don't buy it just to
- 19:23Speaker 4: try to win the money. A lot of times people
- 19:25Speaker 4: donate it back. It's from the heart and we're doing
- 19:28Speaker 4: it to raise money for a cause, a good cause,
- 19:30Speaker 4: because they do need that kitchen back down there.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah, big time.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 2: And I've got a picture of the ticket right on
- 19:39Speaker 2: the monitor right now, so all you have to do
- 19:41Speaker 2: is look at your monitor and you'll see it. At
- 19:43Speaker 2: the American Legion Barry Post ten, Calcutta. Raffles benefits the
- 19:47Speaker 2: kitchen rebuilt. Here's the date, Friday, June twelfth. It's at
- 19:53Speaker 2: six pm. That's the reception. When we say heavy or
- 19:57Speaker 2: dervs Steve, we're not all around. We're talking wings.
- 20:02Speaker 5: What else now, wings, meat balls, could be, sliders, could
- 20:04Speaker 5: be you know, not just cheese and cracker plates.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we're talking food.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Food, dips and chip chips, chip and dips. No, no,
- 20:16Speaker 4: you there'll be a nice buffet spread there for everybody
- 20:18Speaker 4: to uh to fill up on.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Wow, and uh it goes the US.
- 20:23Speaker 2: And then six o'clock when we're all going to get together.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Low reception.
- 20:27Speaker 4: You know, we got to mingle and talk about things
- 20:30Speaker 4: from future fundraising, things we can do.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Uh.
- 20:33Speaker 4: The Bury Elks has generously donated their haul for this event,
- 20:37Speaker 4: and uh the kitchen and the use of the kitchen,
- 20:40Speaker 4: and we're gonna uh work hard to sell all these
- 20:43Speaker 4: tickets and we need help from everybody listening today.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:46Speaker 5: Yeah, this is this is not limited to Lesion and
- 20:49Speaker 5: Elks members or VFW members.
- 20:51Speaker 2: This is we're putting this out to the community exactly.
- 20:54Speaker 5: You know, because the community has been or the Legion
- 20:57Speaker 5: has been a part of this community for so long
- 20:58Speaker 5: and so many community members. They've had wedding receptions there,
- 21:01Speaker 5: like I said, they've had fellowships, they've had you know,
- 21:06Speaker 5: baseball team parties there, They've had you know, all kinds
- 21:09Speaker 5: of you know events, company parties and so and that's
- 21:13Speaker 5: what we want to be able to have back, to
- 21:15Speaker 5: offer back to the community. They can come in and
- 21:18Speaker 5: and and be part of you know, understand what it
- 21:20Speaker 5: is to be part of that Legion family. Enjoy the facilities,
- 21:23Speaker 5: enjoy the hospitality, and uh that's that's where we're at.
- 21:27Speaker 2: We want to be able to do this. Uh.
- 21:29Speaker 5: We had the two years ago, the local National Guard
- 21:33Speaker 5: armory had their Christmas party there and because part of
- 21:37Speaker 5: their you know mission is to be involved in the
- 21:40Speaker 5: community as well, and there was probably one hundred people there,
- 21:44Speaker 5: you know, families with kids and everything. Again, SHERYLD did
- 21:47Speaker 5: a fabulous job providing food for them. We got eleven
- 21:51Speaker 5: legionaires out of that, which was fantastic. And these were
- 21:54Speaker 5: younger people, you know, and you know they're not necessarily
- 21:57Speaker 5: all from the area, but still when they were coming
- 21:59Speaker 5: back or if they were you know, on their maneuvers
- 22:02Speaker 5: or whatever, they'd come in, they'd enjoy the you know,
- 22:05Speaker 5: the Glory lounge and have you know, maybe a couple
- 22:07Speaker 5: of beverages and whatever, and just socialize with the other members.
- 22:11Speaker 2: And it was wonderful. And that's what we want to
- 22:13Speaker 2: have happened that exactly. And listen, you and I and
- 22:18Speaker 2: Ron Tollman. I mean, we've had this conversation many times
- 22:21Speaker 2: that getting younger members involved in some of these service
- 22:26Speaker 2: organizations is huge the lifeblood. Yeah, that's key to keep
- 22:30Speaker 2: it going. I mean, Mel McKnight and I have had
- 22:34Speaker 2: this conversation many times. Here's another big hitter right there.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, sure, Oh my god. I mean that guy
- 22:39Speaker 2: is I don't know how old he is, he's in
- 22:42Speaker 2: ninety anyway, he's still still chopping his own wood, running
- 22:46Speaker 2: around like he's eighteen, not kids like us. Yeah, yeah, no, seriously,
- 22:50Speaker 2: is he chopping his own wood's Yeah? What well he
- 22:53Speaker 2: has I think, hey, somebody cut it down for now,
- 22:55Speaker 2: but he's still split. Unbelievable. God. Yeah, mean we you know,
- 23:01Speaker 2: we all understand that this isn't you know, a bunch
- 23:06Speaker 2: of old guys getting together having cheap drinks. We need
- 23:09Speaker 2: to get we need to get the youth in there.
- 23:11Speaker 2: We need to get younger veterans involved, and frankly, get
- 23:17Speaker 2: them out of their house and off their couches.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Yeah, you know really, I mean, Steve mentioned all the
- 23:23Speaker 4: great things that the Legion does for the community, and
- 23:26Speaker 4: and having this kitchen rebuilt and having that facility will
- 23:30Speaker 4: just allow them to do so much more, absolutely give
- 23:32Speaker 4: back more to the community.
- 23:33Speaker 3: So yeah, that's what.
- 23:35Speaker 2: We're all here for.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I'm getting my cage rattled right now. Victoria, she was
- 23:42Speaker 2: serving up the Thanksgiving dinner. Absolutely, this is your daughters
- 23:46Speaker 2: since she was a little kid. Our kids have been
- 23:49Speaker 2: involved it for many years. Yeah, and In wants to
- 23:54Speaker 2: start doing this again. Absolutely.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, you know, the million dollar question here
- 24:03Speaker 2: is where's this new kitchen going to go? Not back
- 24:05Speaker 2: down in the basement.
- 24:06Speaker 5: No. So the plan is that our discussions at the
- 24:09Speaker 5: Legion have been to put it behind the big bar
- 24:12Speaker 5: where the dance hall is. Right now, there's a lot
- 24:15Speaker 5: of i'm gonna call it storage. There's racks of stuff,
- 24:19Speaker 5: stuff that could be moved. There's been discussion about going
- 24:24Speaker 5: actually out the back end of the building towards the
- 24:26Speaker 5: railroad tracks. There's kind of a dead space about I
- 24:29Speaker 5: think I measured it's like seven by seventeen. There's been
- 24:32Speaker 5: talk of you know, a member who said, well he
- 24:35Speaker 5: would donate you know, the work to do the footings.
- 24:38Speaker 5: There was somebody else that said they would from what
- 24:40Speaker 5: I understand, would donate the concrete a cost.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Wow.
- 24:45Speaker 5: There's been discussions I think with the Again this is
- 24:49Speaker 5: just from things I've heard there maybe using some of
- 24:53Speaker 5: the kids in the local votech to actually do the
- 24:56Speaker 5: construction work because they'd be sutilized by their who are
- 25:00Speaker 5: all you know, certified and and licensed and all that.
- 25:04Speaker 5: That would be a fabulous experience for them. It would
- 25:07Speaker 5: actually save us a lot of money. I'm sure we
- 25:10Speaker 5: would you know, do something back for them.
- 25:13Speaker 2: But still anything that we can do to make this
- 25:17Speaker 2: more affordable, sure, sure, talk with them and give them
- 25:21Speaker 2: some heavy promotion. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 25:24Speaker 5: I think I believe Cheryl has been in discussions with
- 25:28Speaker 5: Home Depot. Again, that was supposed to happen when Noah's
- 25:32Speaker 5: commander and then COVID hit and that shut that right down.
- 25:35Speaker 5: They were going to come in and do a ton
- 25:37Speaker 5: of stuff. So I don't know where other than just
- 25:41Speaker 5: I know she's, you know, been talking to him. So
- 25:43Speaker 5: she's been doing a lot of behind the scenes work.
- 25:45Speaker 5: And again, kudos to her for that. Have I met Cheryl,
- 25:48Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I think she used to have. Yeah, she did.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Yeah, Cheryl's very experienced and uh and she does a
- 25:57Speaker 4: great job for him down Areico.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Would she would she come in a in here and
- 26:01Speaker 2: sit on the curvy couch and have with me?
- 26:03Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah, let's let's let's make that happen, because you're not
- 26:12Speaker 2: the first person that's told me that that she's a
- 26:14Speaker 2: go getter.
- 26:16Speaker 1: She is.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's cool, man, We're blessed to have somebody like that.
- 26:21Speaker 2: So the the wall behind the bar that's staying put,
- 26:28Speaker 2: so the kitchen would just go fause there is a
- 26:31Speaker 2: walk in there.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I see that.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Ye. So but again I don't know all the plans
- 26:35Speaker 2: on that, know, if that would change. I don't know.
- 26:37Speaker 2: I just know they're that's what they're looking. Yeah, but
- 26:40Speaker 2: definitely upstairs, upstairs, Yeah, keep it, keep it dry. How
- 26:46Speaker 2: how much water was down there during the half feet?
- 26:49Speaker 3: Wow?
- 26:50Speaker 5: You con Cheryl showed the pictures The tables were floating. Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 5: and I think from what I understand, it all come
- 27:00Speaker 5: in down the stairs. Some of it came up, yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 5: which is the what happened to the moa too, Yeah,
- 27:06Speaker 5: the thing came up to the floor.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, not through the doors, you know, so yeah, yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 2: so it was just wow. What about the Elks?
- 27:14Speaker 3: We lucked out?
- 27:16Speaker 4: Whoever was the last people that painted those front windows
- 27:20Speaker 4: at the Elks? They painted them shut. So the water
- 27:25Speaker 4: was up to those windows in there, but it never
- 27:28Speaker 4: got in a little bit came in the back door
- 27:31Speaker 4: in the alleyway and went towards the elevator shaft. But
- 27:35Speaker 4: when we left that day, we threw the sand bags
- 27:37Speaker 4: up and we just prayed and wow.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Lucky, Yeah, yeah, very lucky, very lucky.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Lucky.
- 27:44Speaker 2: My gosh. Wow. So this would be this would be
- 27:47Speaker 2: a real game changer if we were able to get
- 27:49Speaker 2: a kitchen absolutely what would I'm guessing that if we
- 27:56Speaker 2: got the the new kitchen up and running, that there
- 27:59Speaker 2: would be some kind of bash, uh, some kind of
- 28:03Speaker 2: uh event where we're using this stuff for the first
- 28:07Speaker 2: time in getting the grand Yeah, that's what I'm trying
- 28:11Speaker 2: to say.
- 28:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I would imagine so, yeah, again that that'd be
- 28:15Speaker 5: something that would be up to the delesion.
- 28:17Speaker 2: How they wouldn't handle that, sure, yeah, but I'm sure
- 28:19Speaker 2: that I'm sure that would be Yeah, that would be awesome.
- 28:22Speaker 2: So how do we get a ticket? There are one
- 28:23Speaker 2: hundred bucks per ticket?
- 28:25Speaker 3: Yes?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah, what does that include? Is that per person? Two
- 28:28Speaker 2: people and two people? That's two people, yeah, okay, two people.
- 28:32Speaker 2: They get a chance at winning, you know, the money.
- 28:34Speaker 5: I think it's the last three out get money in
- 28:36Speaker 5: the first one out gets their money back. Yeah, and
- 28:38Speaker 5: then there's the last three and then some other stuff
- 28:39Speaker 5: in between. But the two people for the buffet and
- 28:42Speaker 5: the raffle. Yeah, Bob has tickets with him.
- 28:45Speaker 4: I get tickets with me. I have to have tickets
- 28:48Speaker 4: they I think Vicky has tickets up at the I
- 28:51Speaker 4: believe Vicky has some of the VFLW. But I have
- 28:54Speaker 4: tickets and uh, you know, just hold of me. I'm
- 28:57Speaker 4: on Facebook. For God's sakes, people see me on Facebook,
- 29:00Speaker 4: so me to. You can message me or email me

- 29:43Speaker 2: My number is eight oh two four six one eight
- 29:46Speaker 2: zero eight five. All right, one more time with those Bob,
- 29:51Speaker 2: you go first with the phone number again. I want
- 29:53Speaker 2: to make sure this is sure.
- 29:54Speaker 4: My my mobile phone number is eight zero two two
- 29:58Speaker 4: four nine five four three.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Five five four three, and Steve yours is eight oh
- 30:06Speaker 2: two four six one eight zero eight five eight zero
- 30:12Speaker 2: eight five eight five.
- 30:14Speaker 5: And the Legion Post has take us there as well.
- 30:18Speaker 5: That number is eight zero two four seven nine nine
- 30:22Speaker 5: zero five eight.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Nine zero five eight all right for the for the Legion.
- 30:30Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, and again you know, as we've said, this
- 30:34Speaker 5: is not limited to Legion, VFW or Elks members.
- 30:37Speaker 2: This is we want the community to be part of
- 30:40Speaker 2: this because in the community.
- 30:42Speaker 5: And in the community shares in all the stuff that
- 30:44Speaker 5: we do with the Legion at the Elks, at the VFW.
- 30:47Speaker 5: You know that's the Berry is such an amazingly generous
- 30:52Speaker 5: community when it comes to stuff like this. You know,
- 30:54Speaker 5: we always are getting you know, I'm well, you know,
- 30:57Speaker 5: I'm on the Bikers for Beth committee. I'm on the
- 30:58Speaker 5: Grand City five K committee, which our registration is going
- 31:01Speaker 5: to be at the Legion again November the seventh, and
- 31:06Speaker 5: we so that'll be oh gosh, I don't know, twelve
- 31:08Speaker 5: years eleventh, this will be the eleventh, twelfth year who've
- 31:11Speaker 5: been doing that. We actually we just had a meeting
- 31:13Speaker 5: last night about some logistics on that. But and thank
- 31:17Speaker 5: you for to the Legion for allowing us to do
- 31:19Speaker 5: that there. But there's always people generously donating to whatever
- 31:24Speaker 5: it is. And for a small community, it really is
- 31:27Speaker 5: an incredible amount of money that that you know.
- 31:30Speaker 2: The businesses donate.
- 31:31Speaker 5: So yes, a business can buy a ticket to absolutely
- 31:34Speaker 5: have to be you know, an individual person and any
- 31:38Speaker 5: I know. Cheryl sent out a letter to all the
- 31:41Speaker 5: Legion family members. You know here we need help. This
- 31:44Speaker 5: is you know, this is our house. Let's you know,
- 31:46Speaker 5: let's get it vexed.
- 31:48Speaker 2: You say, we need help, this is our house. Yes,
- 31:51Speaker 2: I think when I hear those words of so many
- 31:54Speaker 2: community members who have had some really horrifically bad, horrible
- 32:00Speaker 2: things happened to them, house fires, whatever and whatever it is,
- 32:04Speaker 2: and they need they we need to we need to
- 32:08Speaker 2: get together, we need to fundraise, we need to do something,
- 32:12Speaker 2: whether it's a memorial or a celebration or a fundraiser
- 32:15Speaker 2: or whatever. And they think right away, American Legion and
- 32:21Speaker 2: the Burry Elks. Those are the two houses, as you say,
- 32:25Speaker 2: homes where people go to. Recent just recently at the
- 32:30Speaker 2: Elks there was there was a band that was in
- 32:32Speaker 2: there and they were doing a huge fundraiser for a
- 32:34Speaker 2: family who's home burned. Yes, it's true, couple of weeks ago.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:38Speaker 4: The main thing to remember is these buildings don't just
- 32:40Speaker 4: stay open maintenance free, without costs and expense. And the
- 32:45Speaker 4: way we help offset those is by being able to
- 32:48Speaker 4: have events and at the Elks with everything, and that's
- 32:51Speaker 4: what the legion needs to bring more income in. They
- 32:54Speaker 4: need to do the celebration of life's the weddings, the
- 32:58Speaker 4: other parodies and stuff that fundraise ers. So all that
- 33:01Speaker 4: brings revenue into that post, which then allows them to
- 33:05Speaker 4: do more things in the community. And it's the same
- 33:07Speaker 4: with the in the vf W. It's nothing to you know,
- 33:11Speaker 4: we we we inherited a uh a monster with that
- 33:17Speaker 4: uh that old uhmory. Yeah, the old armory. But you
- 33:22Speaker 4: know it's such a great spot, but it's it's boy,
- 33:25Speaker 4: it's money hungry sometimes. I know all these old buildings
- 33:28Speaker 4: there too, you know, whether it's a new boiler or
- 33:32Speaker 4: you know, new wiring lighting and you know, new equipment
- 33:35Speaker 4: for our kitchen.
- 33:35Speaker 2: And uh so.
- 33:38Speaker 4: It's important that we get them back on their feet
- 33:41Speaker 4: on that kitchen and and allow them to to derive
- 33:45Speaker 4: more revenue to do more great things in the community
- 33:49Speaker 4: that they do now and can do more of.
- 33:51Speaker 2: So it it simply has to happen. We have to
- 33:55Speaker 2: keep the kitchen. Yeah what if what if this this
- 34:00Speaker 2: this whole thing and it wouldn't surprise me sells out yay, Yeah,
- 34:05Speaker 2: we got one hundred tickets.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Yeah, once the gone yeah, gone, yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Yes, one hundred tickets, one hundred balls. Yeah, okay, so
- 34:13Speaker 2: we're going to raffle of three.
- 34:14Speaker 4: Yeah, so we'll sell ninety seven. We'll raffle off three
- 34:17Speaker 4: during the event. One after fifty tickets, fifty balls are pulled,
- 34:22Speaker 4: one after seventy five balls are pulled, and one to
- 34:25Speaker 4: get into a chance to get into the last ten.
- 34:28Speaker 4: And you'll buy tickets for each raffle is the night proceeds,
- 34:35Speaker 4: so that raises even more money. But with any luck,
- 34:38Speaker 4: if we can sell out and we pay off our
- 34:41Speaker 4: expenses with the prizes and stuff, it should raise seven
- 34:44Speaker 4: seventy five hundred dollars for the cause, which is a nice,
- 34:49Speaker 4: niceiece a chunk of change to put in the Yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 4: it's a good it's a really good start. It's a start,
- 34:54Speaker 4: a start, is right, because this isn't the only event
- 34:57Speaker 4: that's got to be done. There's gonna be other fundraising
- 34:59Speaker 4: for that. And it's so important to get the support
- 35:02Speaker 4: of the community behind us buying these tickets. Uh, you know,
- 35:07Speaker 4: we've all supported the community for so long and continue
- 35:10Speaker 4: to and it's it's nice to see the community step
- 35:14Speaker 4: up for things like this.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Ye what it's like, you know, just one commercial grade
- 35:21Speaker 2: big stove cost.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Thousands.
- 35:28Speaker 4: But again, you know, hopefully you work with you work
- 35:32Speaker 4: with the people with the manufacturer and and stuff, and
- 35:34Speaker 4: you explain who you are and your nonprofit and this
- 35:37Speaker 4: is what we do for our community and stuff, and
- 35:40Speaker 4: and uh they'll they'll cut you a deal. Sometimes they'll
- 35:43Speaker 4: cut you a deal uh minimum, give it to you
- 35:46Speaker 4: at costs usually uh so. But that's all part, Like
- 35:51Speaker 4: like Steve was saying before, working with contractors to do
- 35:54Speaker 4: part of the construction for the new kitchen stuff, they're
- 35:58Speaker 4: willing to donate some their time and labor and materials.
- 36:02Speaker 3: That goes a long way.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I would love to think that if a manufacturer
- 36:09Speaker 2: is able to really uh step up and come through
- 36:14Speaker 2: for this, that you know, maybe they can a little
- 36:16Speaker 2: plaque on the wall or something. Absolutely, you know what
- 36:19Speaker 2: I mean, sure forever, you know, noting that that this
- 36:24Speaker 2: company was just a critical part of of what you
- 36:29Speaker 2: what you've got. Yeah, I know you mentioned that.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Bob actually mentioned that, you know, there'd be other things
- 36:34Speaker 5: as we go along to raise money. Actually at the
- 36:37Speaker 5: post on June sixth, there's a band Jamuerry, put together
- 36:42Speaker 5: by some members there and there'll be four bands on
- 36:45Speaker 5: a Sunday afternoon and really it's like it's ten bucks
- 36:49Speaker 5: to get in and all the proceeds from that are
- 36:52Speaker 5: going towards the kitchen. So and a nice creative you know,
- 36:55Speaker 5: just some you know again, just keeping these going, keep
- 36:59Speaker 5: keeping people coming into the post and enjoying it.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Love that.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Anything, Uh, Heritage festival wise, you guys, are you guys
- 37:09Speaker 2: going to be I know we haven't talked about this,
- 37:12Speaker 2: but just off the top of your head, like, are
- 37:14Speaker 2: you going to be doing your community lawn sale out front?
- 37:18Speaker 5: I don't know about the lawn sale, but I'm sure
- 37:20Speaker 5: we'll do the front lawn barbecue that we always do
- 37:24Speaker 5: Thursday night, Sun's American Legion do our annual meat bingo,
- 37:27Speaker 5: which is always a great success.
- 37:29Speaker 2: That that's always fun and again open to the community.
- 37:33Speaker 2: You got your Tuesday night meals doing that shepherds by
- 37:38Speaker 2: the other night.
- 37:39Speaker 5: I think, so that's correct, and she's she's always got
- 37:41Speaker 5: something creative and very good quality.
- 37:43Speaker 2: And you get your money's worth and people love that. Oh,
- 37:46Speaker 2: you get a lot more than your your money's worth.
- 37:48Speaker 2: It's and you can get it to go too. Yes,
- 37:50Speaker 2: I'm always fact, I think the majority of to go now,
- 37:53Speaker 2: so which is which is fine? Yeah, keep an eye
- 37:56Speaker 2: on the Berry Post ten Facebook page and the World
- 37:59Speaker 2: newspaper for the menu, Bob. Anything on the horizon here
- 38:06Speaker 2: for spring and summer, maybe even fall that you can
- 38:11Speaker 2: think of. For the Elks lodch, we're busy, we're jamming
- 38:15Speaker 2: over there. It will be a full weekend during the
- 38:18Speaker 2: Heritage Festival with plenty of activities going on for the
- 38:21Speaker 2: kids and for the adults and food and beverage and everything. Now,
- 38:27Speaker 2: you know, we'll have a big Flag Day ceremony on
- 38:29Speaker 2: June fourteenth here. Elks are big on Flag Day, and
- 38:34Speaker 2: of course the Memorial Day parade's coming up and we'll
- 38:37Speaker 2: be big on that and with the Legion and the VFW.
- 38:42Speaker 2: No we have events of course.
- 38:44Speaker 4: You know. Our state project is the Silver Towers Camp
- 38:46Speaker 4: and ripped it a camp overnight camp for special needs kids.
- 38:51Speaker 4: And we have our clean up day this coming June sixth,
- 38:57Speaker 4: early in the morning, we all go up from all
- 38:58Speaker 4: the lodges and at the camp spruced up and get
- 39:01Speaker 4: it ready to go. And we're doing some major construction
- 39:04Speaker 4: there on the men's dorm, lifting it up, getting a
- 39:06Speaker 4: foundation under it, so our lodges have been busy doing
- 39:10Speaker 4: a lot of fundraising for that too. But if you
- 39:14Speaker 4: haven't had a chance to read about Silver Towers, just
- 39:18Speaker 4: google it online. If you have a chance to stop
- 39:20Speaker 4: by the camp, our camp director Carolyn Ravenna would be
- 39:23Speaker 4: happy to show you around. It's a sight to see
- 39:27Speaker 4: what the great work that the Elks do up there.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the oldest overnight camp for special needs folks
- 39:36Speaker 4: from seven to seventy years old in the country.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Well amazing, you said seven to seventy.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Yeah, we have older adults and younger. We mix the
- 39:47Speaker 4: week so you know, it's nothing so everything works, it
- 39:52Speaker 4: works good. Well, you know we keep the age groups.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and I know several folks that go and the
- 39:58Speaker 2: that's frankly all they look forward to all year long.
- 40:02Speaker 2: It's a life changer, it really is. And I also
- 40:05Speaker 2: know a counselor that goes and wouldn't have it any
- 40:10Speaker 2: other way. I mean, just absolutely embraces every minute that
- 40:16Speaker 2: they're there.
- 40:17Speaker 4: Love so many wonderful activities there, and it gives the
- 40:21Speaker 4: caregiver a chance to get a break.
- 40:23Speaker 3: You know, the Elk subsidizes the cost and if not
- 40:29Speaker 3: all of it. There's still a fee.
- 40:30Speaker 4: But if it's if it's a real financial hardship, we
- 40:34Speaker 4: have scholarships that we offer to the camp for the
- 40:38Speaker 4: campers that will help defray part of the cost or
- 40:42Speaker 4: sometimes all of it.
- 40:44Speaker 2: And how do folks should they silver towers on the
- 40:48Speaker 2: web or should they check out the Elks lodge or
- 40:50Speaker 2: chat with someone over at the Elks Lodge?
- 40:52Speaker 4: Yes, look me up or shut chat with anybody over
- 40:56Speaker 4: at the Elx Lodge, you know Vermont Elks dot org,
- 41:01Speaker 4: VT Elks dot org. Uh will have information on the
- 41:06Speaker 4: camp and uh, okay, we have a little barkie dog
- 41:09Speaker 4: out there. Look at he's he's he's barking at her
- 41:13Speaker 4: to buy a ticket to the Calcutta.
- 41:14Speaker 2: That's probably what it is, you know, I I uh
- 41:21Speaker 2: Dave Busca is saying hello this morning.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Folks like Stacey Holden who they're they're they're down in Florida.
- 41:33Speaker 2: They're they're they're not hearing from Ott. They want to
- 41:36Speaker 2: help out, they want to help with this kitchen. They're
- 41:39Speaker 2: not able to make the Calcutta on June twelfth. How
- 41:42Speaker 2: can they donate? How can they get involved? You can
- 41:44Speaker 2: still buy a ticket and uh, you know you don't
- 41:48Speaker 2: have to be there to win. He can buy a
- 41:51Speaker 2: ticket and uh and you know that's or just make
- 41:55Speaker 2: a straight donation. Yeah yeah, okay, good point. The best
- 41:59Speaker 2: way to do that through us Steve or myself. And
- 42:03Speaker 2: we've got your phone numbers right here. Okay, all right,
- 42:07Speaker 2: so I'll be looking to hear from you. All right,
- 42:09Speaker 2: that would be that's going to happen. Stacey is asking
- 42:13Speaker 2: about Silver Towers golf tournament. Is that something that's also happening.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Yeah, We.
- 42:23Speaker 4: The Elks, a couple of lodgers do their own golf tournament.
- 42:27Speaker 4: Barry Elks does one as well. It got moved up
- 42:31Speaker 4: to June this year. I want to say June nineteenth,
- 42:35Speaker 4: maybe at Friday at the country Club of Barry. We
- 42:39Speaker 4: have sponsorships available. You can put a team together. I
- 42:43Speaker 4: believe it's one hundred and twenty five dollars a person.
- 42:46Speaker 4: That includes a dinner back at the lodge as well
- 42:48Speaker 4: as prizes and other goodies.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Last year we were able to raise.
- 42:53Speaker 4: Eighteen thousand dollars from that one tournament. Dave Bingham is
- 42:59Speaker 4: the chairman of the him and his wife Karen. They
- 43:03Speaker 4: do a great job putting that together, and we have
- 43:07Speaker 4: sponsors that you know some of them. We have the
- 43:12Speaker 4: Zecanelli's who on the wayside and their son Nick is
- 43:15Speaker 4: a camper at Silver Powers. Oh yeah, so he's up
- 43:18Speaker 4: there helping out, you know, helping the team's putt on
- 43:21Speaker 4: the seventh hole and stuff like that.
- 43:23Speaker 3: And so we have a lot of support for the camp.
- 43:27Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 43:28Speaker 2: So we're just right checks June nineteenth, I believe, so yeah,
- 43:33Speaker 2: Karen Bingham is telling us June nineteenth.
- 43:35Speaker 3: June nineteenth, Okay, so there you go.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Wow, that's so great man.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Yeah, and we're hoping to raise more this year and
- 43:41Speaker 4: every penny of that goes to Silver Towers.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Love that. Yeah, is there is there anything else? I know,
- 43:48Speaker 2: you guys were playing on coming in here and just
- 43:51Speaker 2: talking about the Calcutta button. Come on, Steve, you know
- 43:55Speaker 2: how many times you've been on the mic with me.
- 43:56Speaker 2: We're gonna, we're gonna, we're going to promote as much
- 43:59Speaker 2: as we can and take this opportunity.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Well, we still got you know, almost every Saturday night
- 44:04Speaker 5: we got a band at the Legion and I believe
- 44:07Speaker 5: this Saturday is like the favorite brand Crazy Country.
- 44:11Speaker 2: They have to pack the house. They packed the house.
- 44:16Speaker 2: There's almost, dare I say a cult following for those guys.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I mean they really, oh yeah, they go all over amazing.
- 44:24Speaker 5: Yeah, we had to think last week with a band
- 44:27Speaker 5: called a newer band called Borderstone, heard great things about them.
- 44:30Speaker 5: So we're trying, you know, we're trying to get some newer,
- 44:34Speaker 5: you know bands in there.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Like you have people a little bit of a variety.
- 44:37Speaker 5: Like you said, we have the Tuesday night meals all
- 44:39Speaker 5: the time, and the post is open, you know, every
- 44:44Speaker 5: day but Monday. Okay, so three to eight o'clock during
- 44:47Speaker 5: the week, noon to eight on Saturdays, and then of
- 44:51Speaker 5: course the big side is open and then one to
- 44:54Speaker 5: six on Sundays. You can come in as a guest
- 45:02Speaker 5: of a member if you want to just come and
- 45:04Speaker 5: to see what we're about. Actually, a bunch of the guys,
- 45:07Speaker 5: a bunch of the veterans, got together a couple of
- 45:09Speaker 5: years ago and completely.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Redid our pool table beautiful.
- 45:13Speaker 5: So now there's every night there's like four or five
- 45:15Speaker 5: six guys in there playing pool, you know, members, but
- 45:19Speaker 5: they're they're enjoying the heck out of it.
- 45:21Speaker 2: It's just so it's not just people just sitting around
- 45:24Speaker 2: and you know whatever.
- 45:27Speaker 5: There's I'm trying to think we will else We've got
- 45:28Speaker 5: we got other raffles going on, some just to benefit
- 45:32Speaker 5: the post, some again for the kitchen, but a lot
- 45:35Speaker 5: of stuff just to generate some you know, variety and
- 45:38Speaker 5: in what we do there. So the auxiliary sponsor of
- 45:41Speaker 5: the raffle, I think the club manager did one. A
- 45:43Speaker 5: couple of the I think one of the bartenders and
- 45:46Speaker 5: the post commander got together just a little basket, you know,
- 45:49Speaker 5: a couple of hundred bucks here, a couple of hundred
- 45:51Speaker 5: bucks there. Everything helps just to keep you know, to
- 45:55Speaker 5: keep us going.
- 45:55Speaker 2: You also do a Veteran's meal too, Yes, actually yes,
- 46:00Speaker 2: seed free.
- 46:00Speaker 5: The sal is doing the meal this month. It's on
- 46:03Speaker 5: the twenty it's a Thursday. It's the last Thursday. I
- 46:07Speaker 5: think it's the twenty eighth, and that's going to be
- 46:09Speaker 5: a barbecue burgers and dogs and stuff and free to
- 46:12Speaker 5: any veteran. You don't have to be a member of
- 46:14Speaker 5: the lesion perfect so, but we do. You do need
- 46:16Speaker 5: to RSVP. We need to know how many we gonna
- 46:19Speaker 5: cook for.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Bob, how's your dad doing? And will will he get
- 46:22Speaker 2: to one of these veterans meals and will he be
- 46:26Speaker 2: part of the Memorial Day celebration Right here.
- 46:30Speaker 4: I'm not sure about the Memorial Day celebration, but he
- 46:33Speaker 4: certainly will. We like to get him out for the
- 46:36Speaker 4: senior meals. The Elks once a month on the third
- 46:38Speaker 4: Wednesday of the month does a senior meal for the
- 46:40Speaker 4: community twelve bucks. It's a great meal. Also at that meal,
- 46:45Speaker 4: we recognize local students for achievements they've done. We recognize
- 46:51Speaker 4: JROTC cadets. So it's a good event. It's a fun night.
- 46:56Speaker 4: And May is the last one we have now until
- 46:59Speaker 4: the fall. All well, we don't run them in the summer,
- 47:03Speaker 4: but normally we get anywhere from one hundred and fifty
- 47:05Speaker 4: to two hundred people at those.
- 47:07Speaker 3: And yeah, it's a man and it's good for the community.
- 47:10Speaker 3: You know, they twelve bucks.
- 47:11Speaker 2: You gotta get a great deal. How old are you guys?
- 47:15Speaker 2: Are you guys seniors?
- 47:17Speaker 3: I'm sorry I couldn't hear you JD. Yeah the mics
- 47:20Speaker 3: must be failing.
- 47:21Speaker 2: He turn it. Uh, yeah, actually do you have to
- 47:24Speaker 2: be to be a senior? I'm just when I hear
- 47:27Speaker 2: food in a senior I'm thinking of myself. Yeah, thinking,
- 47:30Speaker 2: I'm fifty five.
- 47:31Speaker 4: Yeah, God, come on, you're old enough, Nichols. Sure, yes, yes,
- 47:37Speaker 4: Steve and I are a little bit older.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Just a tad, just a tad.
- 47:39Speaker 5: But actually this I'm glad you mentioned that because this
- 47:43Speaker 5: senior meal this month is a very special one because
- 47:47Speaker 5: that night, the Granite City five K Committee is going
- 47:51Speaker 5: to be handing out our donations to the people, the groups.
- 47:54Speaker 2: That we've chosen this year. So we're gonna have some
- 47:56Speaker 2: special guests.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:57Speaker 2: And that's nice, that's uh, that's really that's an emotional light.
- 48:01Speaker 2: That's great.
- 48:02Speaker 4: That's uh when I say that's Wednesday, Wednesday the twentieth Yep,
- 48:07Speaker 4: the meal is served at five thirty sharp. You know,
- 48:09Speaker 4: it's older folks gotta eat and get home in time.
- 48:13Speaker 2: To Hey, Lisa is in it. I know you've already
- 48:21Speaker 2: mentioned meat bingo, but she's reminding you to talk once
- 48:25Speaker 2: again about meat bingo because I know that's coming up.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Oh the one, the s al one.
- 48:30Speaker 5: Yes, okay, So that's the Thursday of the Heritage Weekend. Okay,
- 48:35Speaker 5: and yeah, that's our We always got a great turnout
- 48:38Speaker 5: for that, great prizes. Actually we started that at Post
- 48:42Speaker 5: ten I don't know how many years ago, but.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I went to I went to one of the first ones,
- 48:46Speaker 2: had so much fun. No, it's great and you you
- 48:49Speaker 2: walk away with meat. And I remember one of those
- 48:55Speaker 2: first ones, I yelled out, bingo, that's not good. Gosh,
- 49:00Speaker 2: your book. I think it costs me five for you.
- 49:05Speaker 2: It was me. It was not a good it was
- 49:09Speaker 2: not a good experience. I was harassed for the rest
- 49:13Speaker 2: of the night. Buy some older ladies too good, like
- 49:16Speaker 2: you really old ladies. They were like, what are you
- 49:19Speaker 2: doing yelling bingo? You have to yell meet that's right?
- 49:24Speaker 2: Uh that that is so much fun. And I'm keeping
- 49:27Speaker 2: an eye on what you guys are doing. But please
- 49:31Speaker 2: don't and I know Lisa isn't afraid to text me,
- 49:36Speaker 2: reach out to me and just give me a friendly
- 49:40Speaker 2: reminder about anything that you guys have going on. And
- 49:44Speaker 2: that's just not in the month of May and or June,
- 49:47Speaker 2: but that's all summer long and into the fall. I
- 49:49Speaker 2: love talking about you guys, no matter what you're doing.
- 49:52Speaker 2: And the VFW as well.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Yes, same as Steve mentioned before, if you're interested in
- 49:57Speaker 4: joining our Elks family, just come in or call. You're
- 50:01Speaker 4: welcome to come in and see what we do and
- 50:04Speaker 4: join our family and the good work that we do.
- 50:07Speaker 4: We have a thing, you know, the first time your guests,
- 50:10Speaker 4: the second time you visit your friend, and the third
- 50:12Speaker 4: time you visit, you're going to be a member. And
- 50:16Speaker 4: it usually works that way. So we'd love to have
- 50:20Speaker 4: people in the community come in and see our facilities,
- 50:24Speaker 4: see what we do, see how they can help us
- 50:27Speaker 4: in our work to get back to the community and
- 50:29Speaker 4: our youth and our veterans. Wow, great, Stuffy was welcome.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Tomorrow morning, just wrap up here. I'm going to be
- 50:36Speaker 4: streaming live over at the Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament at
- 50:41Speaker 4: the Bury Country Club. The annual Chamber of Commerce golf
- 50:47Speaker 4: tournament is a big, big deal and I can't wait.
- 50:50Speaker 4: The weather's going to be perfect for it, and I'll
- 50:52Speaker 4: be over there tomorrow morning, right around nine o'clock and
- 50:56Speaker 4: throwing microphones in front of different ouse and we're gonna
- 51:01Speaker 4: have some fun.
- 51:02Speaker 2: It's it's gonna be great. The weather's gonna be perfect
- 51:04Speaker 2: for it. Yes, what else? I think? I think that's it?
- 51:09Speaker 2: Did we cover everything? Guys?
- 51:11Speaker 3: I think we did, But thank you for the opportunity.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Yeah, let's hold up those tickets on on camera there
- 51:18Speaker 2: so we can see what they look like. They're not
- 51:20Speaker 2: little tiny rinkity dink tickets.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Oh they're hot, they're hot.
- 51:24Speaker 2: They are very ticket Mary, come on again, get in
- 51:29Speaker 2: touch with Bob or Steve to get a ticket or yeah,
- 51:33Speaker 2: there you go, or the Post, the Post or the
- 51:37Speaker 2: VFW or the elks walk in, get in touch with them,
- 51:42Speaker 2: get yourself a ticket. And and don't wait on this thing,
- 51:45Speaker 2: because June twelfth.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Is coming coming up. We got a month almost a
- 51:49Speaker 3: month away.
- 51:49Speaker 4: We've sold quite a few of them already, but there's
- 51:51Speaker 4: a lot left we have to move, so we need
- 51:53Speaker 4: your help.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Barry, all right, I will say, and we will say
- 51:57Speaker 5: thank you to everybody this already purchased a ticket.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Yeah, totally appreciate that much. And so and good luck
- 52:03Speaker 2: to get Yeah, awesome, thanks guys, thanks for coming in here.
- 52:06Speaker 2: Thank you, Stacy Holden. What is he saying? I thought
- 52:10Speaker 2: you had to get home to watch the Lawrence Welk Marathon.
- 52:16Speaker 2: What's he talking about? Who is Lawrence Welk?
- 52:20Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 52:21Speaker 2: You don't know, Bob, do you know?
- 52:22Speaker 1: So?
- 52:23Speaker 4: Yeah, you're wonderful, wonderful you're supposed to say, come on?
- 52:27Speaker 4: Was that was every Sunday night at home with my parents.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Well absolutely, then the Smothers brothers, and that's how old
- 52:35Speaker 4: we are.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Who's the other guy? That was the.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and the and the wonderful of Myron of Florin
- 52:42Speaker 4: on the accordion all.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Listen to you guys and Sullivan and of course I
- 52:48Speaker 2: have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Yeah, have
- 52:54Speaker 2: a gray day, boys, thanks for coming in here, thank you. Yeah, yeah, well.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Well we will work well, nebody
