- 0:00SPEAKER_05: Now, beyond Dolly, just uh as we know her, philanthropist, uh, you know, the uh Aunt Dolly for the books, the music, the writing of the music, she was a savvy business lady.
- 0:12SPEAKER_05: Oh lordy, did she know how to handle uh business and really make some great moves?
- 0:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, I've got a great business story about her too, but keep going.
- 0:19SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm gonna play this for you.
- 0:20SPEAKER_05: So uh Dolly Parton's brilliant business move, making her first movie.
- 0:25SPEAKER_05: Now, this is with her with Jane Fonda doing talking about nine to five and how just listen to this.
- 0:31SPEAKER_05: This oh, she was slick.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I hadn't wanted to do any movies until a right thing come along, because I'm not an actress, I've never taken an acting lesson in my life, and you'd have to be something that was pretty much close to my personality.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: But Jane Fonda came up with this idea to do nine to five about women in the workplace.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Driving home, turn on the radio, two doors down, is playing, and I suddenly get an image of Dolly Parton sitting at a typewriter.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And I thought that would be something to have Dolly Parton in her first movie.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: When Jane came to me with it, I said, Well, I will only do it if I can write the theme song.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Working night.
- 1:14SPEAKER_05: There's the money.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: They just use your mind and they never give you credit.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Some come and find you crazy and you have it.
- 1:32SPEAKER_05: And arguably, the song, even bigger than the movie, it was around forever.
- 1:36SPEAKER_05: I mean we still every once in a while.
- 1:38SPEAKER_05: We'll the thing will pop up.
- 1:39SPEAKER_05: You'll be like, oh my god, here we go, turn it up.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: I feel like it doesn't get covered that much, but it will get remixed.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: Like I listened to this one remixed at the gym, and they always put it in there, and it's a song I never skip.
- 1:51SPEAKER_05: That's awesome.
- 1:52SPEAKER_05: I'd actually really like to hear that.
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's fantastic.
- 1:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: There might be some swearing in it.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: So I'll have to.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: How do you disgrace Dolly Parton like that?
- 2:01SPEAKER_05: You evil DJ of remixes that puts in naughty words, Dolly will slap you from heaven.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: Let me let me take a listen to it.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: That's maybe a good idea before we play it because it is really good.
- 2:10SPEAKER_05: Merle, once again, my wife got a rhinestone addiction from Dolly.
- 2:14SPEAKER_05: That's just hilarious.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: I think that Dolly gave women so much confidence to dress so loud and to do whatever we wanted, whether it was the the nails and the red lipstick and all of that.
- 2:24SPEAKER_04: That was such a Dolly influence.
- 2:26SPEAKER_05: It you know, and and I have to mention Mercedes04, that's the uh username.
- 2:30SPEAKER_05: Another good point.
- 2:31SPEAKER_05: Two icons, huge icons this year.
- 2:33SPEAKER_05: Ozzy earlier in the year.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 2:36SPEAKER_05: Dolly, I mean, you know, it yeah, we unfortunately that's it.
- 2:39SPEAKER_05: Now I'm gonna take you back to 2022 really quick.
- 2:41SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 2:42SPEAKER_05: How did Dolly want to be remembered?
- 2:44SPEAKER_05: And uh this this is kind of interesting.
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: She uh she was talking about this.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: Dolly Parton was in Columbus, Ohio, on behalf of her Imagination Library in 2022.
- 2:55SPEAKER_05: During an interview, she was asked how she'd like to be remembered.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: Her response was, well, totally Dolly.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Well, a lot of people ask me, uh, you know, what I want people to say about me a hundred years from now.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: I want them to say, golly, she looks good for her, ain't it?
- 3:12SPEAKER_04: Yes, that is Dolly.
- 3:15SPEAKER_04: In just a minute, I'm gonna tell you on uh how much of a stand-up business person she was.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: Like, yes, we've got the books.
- 3:20SPEAKER_04: And yes, she donated so much money to all these different charities.
- 3:25SPEAKER_04: I actually just looked up, you had mentioned the the um black women that she donated to.
- 3:29SPEAKER_04: Yes, yes.
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: What it was, it was well uh after Whitney Houston did I Will Always Love You, there was a lot of residual money coming into Dolly.
- 3:38SPEAKER_04: She took that money and in Nashville, Tennessee, she um opened up like a business complex so women could uh thrive in business.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's great.
- 3:47SPEAKER_05: Yes, okay.
- 3:48SPEAKER_05: That was a little bit more on thank you very much.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: Uh okay, so yeah, we'll re we'll keep remembering Dolly.
- 3:54SPEAKER_05: I mean, there's other things we'll do throughout the day too.
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: Uh but yeah, we'll uh we'll keep at it for a little bit longer.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: Remember, there's a lesson out of this kindness and honesty.
- 4:03SPEAKER_04: Oh, she said so I I have to say, this is one of Dolly's most notable quotes.
- 4:08SPEAKER_04: A great smile is a wonderful asset, but a good heart is a pu is pure gold.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: And basically she was saying, kindness doesn't cost anything.
- 4:16SPEAKER_04: You just just be kind.
- 4:19SPEAKER_04: Oh, speaking of, I have a great story about somebody who almost got hit in traffic yesterday.
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: Oh yes.
- 4:25SPEAKER_05: Well, there's a tease.
- 4:26SPEAKER_05: I know, hang on a second.
