- 0:00Speaker 1: Mark simone.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Well liz peak the great columnist uh you can read
- 0:07Speaker 2: her columns on foxnews.com or you can read her at
- 0:09Speaker 2: the hill or even better just go to her website
- 0:12Speaker 2: lizpeak.com a lot of great stories up there lizpeak.com liz
- 0:17Speaker 2: peak how you.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Doing i'm well thank you and countdown the dog days
- 0:22Speaker 1: of summer here mark and uh You know, I hate
- 0:26Speaker 1: to say goodbye to summer. I really do.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I don't know. It was one very weird summer with
- 0:30Speaker 2: Canadian smoke and heat waves. And it was not the
- 0:34Speaker 2: greatest summer. Hey, the president met with the oil company
- 0:38Speaker 2: executives yesterday trying to get the price down. So with
- 0:42Speaker 2: the straits half open right now with the Venezuela deal,
- 0:46Speaker 2: what do you think is going to happen with the
- 0:47Speaker 2: price of oil?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Well, obviously... The administration is going to do absolutely everything
- 0:54Speaker 1: possible to convince refiners to delay maintenance, I'm guessing, so
- 1:01Speaker 1: that there's no downtime in the refiners, so that they're
- 1:04Speaker 1: operating at very full capacity, which they have been doing.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm sure he's drawing on prices. As we know, gasoline prices,
- 1:12Speaker 1: when oil prices come down, gasoline prices follow very slowly.
- 1:16Speaker 1: That's just always been the case. People liken it to
- 1:20Speaker 1: a feather in a rock. You know, oil prices drop
- 1:23Speaker 1: like a rock and the gasoline price falls like a feather.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But honestly, Mark, right now, until there is some sort
- 1:29Speaker 1: of breakthrough in Iran, I just don't see any particular
- 1:35Speaker 1: movement here. I mean, unfortunately, Besson, I know, is talking
- 1:39Speaker 1: about Ukraine and the fact that they're attacking Russian oil installations.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And that's true. That definitely has an impact. Anything, anywhere
- 1:48Speaker 1: in the world. that interrupts production and refining has an impact. But,
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know, the big issue still is that, yes, there's
- 1:58Speaker 1: eight or nine million barrels a day coming through the
- 2:00Speaker 1: Strait of Hormuz, but that's not what it was. And
- 2:02Speaker 1: even though Middle East producers have done a great deal
- 2:06Speaker 1: to offset the loss of nine million barrels a day
- 2:10Speaker 1: that was coming through there, in addition to what we're
- 2:13Speaker 1: seeing now, you know, it's just not back to where
- 2:16Speaker 1: it was. So, The pressure is still upward, and I
- 2:21Speaker 1: don't know what they can do to change that.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Hey, people in New York might think it's $ 4. 50, $ 5
- 2:27Speaker 2: a gallon all over America. That's not the case, but
- 2:32Speaker 2: you wrote about Hochul trying to blame President Trump. Will
- 2:34Speaker 2: she get away with that?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Well, it's not just gasoline prices in New York. All
- 2:40Speaker 1: energy prices are absurdly inflated. And I have to say,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I kept thinking... For the last several months, maybe the
- 2:49Speaker 1: last couple of years, how are Democrats in New York
- 2:52Speaker 1: really going to explain to people the fact that energy
- 2:55Speaker 1: prices in New York are 60%, sometimes 100% greater than
- 3:00Speaker 1: the national average? I have to say it never occurred
- 3:03Speaker 1: to me that they will blame Donald Trump. So, you know,
- 3:08Speaker 1: is it really the case that our trade scuffle with
- 3:12Speaker 1: Canada is impacting energy prices in New York? No, it's
- 3:15Speaker 1: because they... stupidly, foolishly, some years ago, Andrew Cuomo decided
- 3:22Speaker 1: we should not have fracking in New York, a position
- 3:25Speaker 1: that was then eagerly adopted by his successor, Kathy Hochul.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So we can't frack. So we're not producing the natural
- 3:33Speaker 1: gas locally that we need to produce electricity. That's the
- 3:37Speaker 1: number one feedstock for electricity. So not content with messing
- 3:42Speaker 1: up our natural gas supply, they also banned... pipelines incredibly
- 3:47Speaker 1: from bringing natural gas into the state because they had
- 3:50Speaker 1: a vision of windmills and solar panels making all the difference.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So then they go ahead and shut down Indian Point,
- 3:57Speaker 1: which was producing a very solid chunk of very clean
- 4:03Speaker 1: energy for New York City and New York State. So
- 4:06Speaker 1: they have doubled down on stupid over and over again
- 4:09Speaker 1: on our energy policy. And now really the whole New
- 4:12Speaker 1: England region adopted similar foolish policies. And pretty much across
- 4:19Speaker 1: the entire region, people are paying much more than they
- 4:23Speaker 1: should be for natural gas. I mean, it's really a travesty.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Liz Peek, doing the same thing with AI, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 2: yelling and screaming about data centers. Data centers basically just
- 4:34Speaker 2: a building with some computers in it. It makes a
- 4:36Speaker 2: lot of noise.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. It's really sad, Mark. I mean, the progressives
- 4:45Speaker 1: have taken on trying to slow or even stop data
- 4:50Speaker 1: center construction. And yet, how do they send that message out?
- 4:54Speaker 1: They send it out on their social media. They communicate
- 4:58Speaker 1: each other on iPhones, obviously. What's powering all that? Data centers.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It's so stupid. And not any one of them, not
- 5:08Speaker 1: Bernie Sanders, not any of the progressives talking about this,
- 5:11Speaker 1: we'll tell you what is the alternative. What are we
- 5:13Speaker 1: going to do? We're going to sit in America and say,
- 5:16Speaker 1: AI has some people worried, so we are no longer
- 5:19Speaker 1: going to be technological leaders in this new booming industry.
- 5:24Speaker 1: We are going to deny our electricians and plumbers and
- 5:28Speaker 1: construction workers hundreds of thousands of jobs that are now
- 5:33Speaker 1: on the line as the data center rollout continues. None
- 5:37Speaker 1: of it makes any sense, but People have been so
- 5:41Speaker 1: scared now about the data centers. As you point out,
- 5:45Speaker 1: it's nothing but a big agglomeration of computers. And if
- 5:48Speaker 1: you're worried that it's taking too much electricity in your
- 5:51Speaker 1: local area and boosting electricity prices, okay, your legislators are
- 5:57Speaker 1: on the hook to make that go away. And the
- 5:59Speaker 1: way they do that is they say to the data
- 6:01Speaker 1: center owner and operator, you have to pay for your
- 6:04Speaker 1: own electricity. You have to create it, build a small
- 6:07Speaker 1: power plant, whatever it takes. but you're going to make
- 6:10Speaker 1: people whole on this. This is not complicated. If we
- 6:14Speaker 1: had competent legislators, they would be fixing this state by state,
- 6:18Speaker 1: region by region. I don't want AI regulation state by state,
- 6:25Speaker 1: but certainly data center construction, just like any other kind
- 6:28Speaker 1: of construction, should be organized locally and they can resolve
- 6:33Speaker 1: the problems that people have. But to turn your back
- 6:37Speaker 1: on conceivably the most dynamic, meaningful, powerful new industry probably
- 6:44Speaker 1: ever created, Mark. That's not hyperbole, as Joe Biden would say.
- 6:48Speaker 1: That's real. It's just plain stupid.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Hey, Liz Peek has a great website, lizpeek.com. There's
- 6:55Speaker 2: always great stories up there. Here's my favorite story today.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Gavin Newsom, man of the people, is selling his house.
- 7:03Speaker 2: It's an $ 8 million mansion. It turns out it has
- 7:06Speaker 2: a 5,000-bottle wine cellar, and he claims he didn't know
- 7:09Speaker 2: it was there?
- 7:10Speaker 1: What? Gavin Newsom is honestly the poster child for trying
- 7:18Speaker 1: to be something he is not. What is Gavin Newsom?
- 7:22Speaker 1: He is a wealthy political elite in a very far-left
- 7:27Speaker 1: state who has gotten by on his good looks, certainly
- 7:30Speaker 1: not his accomplishments because he has done nothing, literally nothing
- 7:34Speaker 1: over time, but endanger the state of California. By endanger,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I mean endanger the robust economy, which in recent years
- 7:46Speaker 1: has been pretty much held up by not Hollywood, but
- 7:50Speaker 1: rather by Silicon Valley and all the tech people starting
- 7:54Speaker 1: up businesses in California. Gavin Newsom has enabled and encouraged that,
- 8:02Speaker 1: to his credit, But at the same time, he's always
- 8:04Speaker 1: trying to have his left hand out, shaking hands with
- 8:07Speaker 1: the people who want to slap on a billionaire's tap. So,
- 8:10Speaker 1: I mean, the most ridiculous thing Gavin Newsom has done
- 8:13Speaker 1: recently in his desperate quest to be taken seriously as
- 8:18Speaker 1: a presidential candidate was basically say he didn't approve of
- 8:23Speaker 1: the billionaire tax in California, but he would like to
- 8:26Speaker 1: see one nationwide. Okay, I'm not going to go along
- 8:30Speaker 1: with the SAIU and In my state, I mean, heaven
- 8:33Speaker 1: knows I don't want to drive billionaires and wealthy people
- 8:36Speaker 1: out of California because they're already leaving in droves, putting
- 8:40Speaker 1: the entire economy in jeopardy. No, I want this to
- 8:43Speaker 1: happen to the United States. I mean, really, you can't
- 8:46Speaker 1: make this up, Mark. It is so absurd. And of course,
- 8:49Speaker 1: all his, remember back during COVID when he was really,
- 8:53Speaker 1: really vigilant and very nasty about people staying in, not
- 8:57Speaker 1: going out to eat. Turned out he had a dinner
- 8:59Speaker 1: at French Laundry. Remember that? Talk about a high-class elitist.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Activity.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It was preposterous, as he is.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah. We got stuck with Mamdani, but the good thing
- 9:13Speaker 2: with Mamdani, it's all talk. He doesn't get anything done.
- 9:16Speaker 2: You'll never see these grocery stores. I don't think you'll
- 9:19Speaker 2: ever even see this pied-à-terre tax.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Well, that's a good question. It certainly has not been
- 9:24Speaker 1: rolled out well. I think people are really infuriated about
- 9:28Speaker 1: it because it has caught up. I would guess that
- 9:32Speaker 1: the initial list had as many people who are actually
- 9:35Speaker 1: residents of New York as people for whom these were
- 9:39Speaker 1: second homes. It was so badly done, and it's an
- 9:43Speaker 1: offensive and foolish idea anyway. I mean, think about The
- 9:48Speaker 1: perfect member of a golf club is someone who belongs,
- 9:52Speaker 1: pays the dues, but never goes to it, right? Same
- 9:55Speaker 1: thing with people who have second homes in New York
- 9:58Speaker 1: and they kind of fly in. in, they go to
- 10:00Speaker 1: a Broadway show, they go out to dinner, but meanwhile,
- 10:03Speaker 1: they're always paying the doorman, they're paying people to clean
- 10:06Speaker 1: their apartment, they're paying utility bills, et cetera, but they
- 10:10Speaker 1: don't demand anything in the way of city resources. So
- 10:13Speaker 1: you have to sort of say to yourself, why in
- 10:17Speaker 1: the world would we not want these people participating in
- 10:21Speaker 1: New York City? The answer is it's just a dumb idea.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Well, very good point. Liz Peek, brilliant as always. Now,
- 10:28Speaker 2: you've got to read her columns at foxnews.com, thehill.com, but
- 10:33Speaker 2: go to her website. Check it every day. There's always
- 10:35Speaker 2: new stuff there, lizpeek.com, lizpeek.com. Liz Peek, thanks for being
