Transcript
- Lucas: Welcome back, Luna. Ready to learn some more Amharic? Luna: Yes, I am! What are we diving into today? Lucas: Today we're going to talk about two delicious fruits: mango and papaya. Luna: Oh, I love both of those. Let me guess — we're learning their Amharic names. Lucas: Exactly. Mango in Amharic is ማንጎ. Say it with me: ማንጎ. Luna: ማንጎ. That's pretty close to English, right? Lucas: Very close. Now papaya is ፓፓያ. Repeat: ፓፓያ. Luna: ፓፓያ. That one's almost the same too. Easy! Lucas: Yes, but let's practice them in sentences. Say 'I want a mango.' In Amharic: ማንጎ እፈልጋለሁ. Slowly: ማንጎ እፈልጋለሁ. Luna: ማንጎ እፈልጋለሁ. So that's 'mango' and 'I want'. Lucas: You got it. Now 'I want a papaya' — ፓፓያ እፈልጋለሁ. Try it. Luna: ፓፓያ እፈልጋለሁ. That feels good. Lucas: Great. Now how about 'This is a mango'? That's ይህ ማንጎ ነው. Luna: ይህ ማንጎ ነው. So 'this' is ይህ and 'is' is ነው. Lucas: Exactly. And 'This is a papaya' — ይህ ፓፓያ ነው. Luna: ይህ ፓፓያ ነው. I can do this. Lucas: Let's imagine you're at the market. You see a mango. What do you say? Luna: ማንጎ እፈልጋለሁ. Or maybe ይህ ማንጎ ነው. Lucas: Both work. Now if you see a papaya and want to buy it? Luna: ፓፓያ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Perfect. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: ማንጎ. Lucas: You're doing amazing. Now, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small way to keep the show ad-free. Luna: Yeah, if today was worth a coffee to you, that's the link. We appreciate it so much. Lucas: Okay, let's practice one more time. Imagine you're at the market and you want a mango. What do you say? Luna: ማንጎ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: And if you want a papaya? Luna: ፓፓያ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Excellent. Keep practicing these, and next time we'll learn more fruit names. See you then! Luna: Thanks, Lucas. Bye!
