- 0:01SPEAKER_00: If you felt lonely, isolated, disconnected, with an empty feeling inside and just yearning for more, knowing something is missing, then this podcast is for you.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: So here's your host, Joe Mitigan.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to We.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Have you ever reached a point in your life where you were genuinely excited about the person you were becoming, but at the exact same time you felt completely overwhelmed by what you might have to leave behind?
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: I certainly know that experience.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: For so much of my life, I thought growth meant adding things, you know, learning more, achieving more, becoming stronger, having more success.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: But I'm beginning to understand that sometimes becoming isn't about adding anything at all.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Sometimes becoming requires letting go.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: And for me, quite honestly, that can be really scary.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Because the person I used to be, it wasn't all bad.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: That person survived things.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: That person built relationships, he created a life, made mistakes, experienced success, endured a lot of pain, and somehow got me here.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: There are parts I'm grateful for, and there are parts I simply don't need anymore.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: And that what that's what makes this stage of personal growth so complicated.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: How do we become someone new without feeling like we're abandoning who we used to be?
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: How do I let go of old beliefs, old behaviors, old relationships, old expectations, and quite honestly, even old dreams without believing that everything became that came before was somehow wrong?
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's why becoming can feel so overwhelming.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Because sometimes we're not just changing what we do, sometimes we're changing who we believe we are.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: And when our identity begins to change, everything around us can start to feel different.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Things that once motivated us may not motivate us anymore.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: The approval we once needed may not matter as much.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: The success we spent years chasing may no longer feel like success.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Some relationships may change, some dreams may change, and even the way we see ourselves may change.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: And there's a strange emotional place between the person we were and the person we're becoming.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: We're not completely who we used to be anymore, but we're not completely comfortable being the new person yet either.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: We're somewhere in between.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: And maybe that's not a bad place to be.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's where transformation actually happens.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Because I'm beginning to realize that I don't have to hate the old version of myself in order to become a new version of myself.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: I can thank him, I can forgive him, I can love him, and I can let him go.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Maybe emotional growth isn't about rejecting our past.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's about finally understanding that our past brought us here, but it doesn't have to determine where we go next.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And that's where trust comes in.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I don't have to know exactly who I'm going to become.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I don't have to know exactly what my life will look like.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: I don't have to have every answer.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Maybe, just maybe, I simply have to trust the person emerging from all of this healing, pain, growth, faith, and experience is the person I'm supposed to become.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: So today we're going to talk about that strange place between letting go and becoming.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: We're going to talk about why growth can feel like loss.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Why becoming someone new can make us grieve parts of ourselves we'd thought we'd never needed.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Why sometimes run back to an old identity simply because it's familiar.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: And most importantly, we're going to talk about how to let go without being afraid that we're losing ourselves.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Because maybe I'm not losing myself at all.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Maybe for the first time in my life, I'm finally discovering myself.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: And maybe I don't need to be afraid of leaving a big part of me behind because I can simply be grateful that version carried me this far and trust the person I'm becoming will carry me the rest of the way.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: My name is Joe Mittig, and this is We.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Welcome everybody.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the We podcast from around the world.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: It's great to have everybody here, and it's an exciting time.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I got some really amazing news this week, which I'm going to talk about here a little bit later in the podcast.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: And I'm just, I'm thrilled.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: My heart is super full tonight as a consequence of this.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: And I'm really excited to share with all of you what's going on.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: You know, this particular topic, the emotional growth topic, like what the heck is it?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: We're going to get into that a little bit more.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: What is personal growth?
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: And what's the emotional part of personal growth?
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: And what's the spiritual part of personal growth?
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And why the heck do we want to do it?
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: That's everything we're going to talk about here today.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: And we're going to talk about how do we know when it's actually happening?
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Because so very often we'll get lost and buried in the experiences of life.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: And we come out and you know, we still have to pay our car payment.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: And you know, our kids are still need to get to school.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: And I don't know about you, but my sons are always hungry.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: So when dinner time came, it didn't matter if I was growing emotionally, spiritually, or physically.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: They were hungry.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: So I had to put all that on the shelf and get them food.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: So a lot of times our personal growth, emotional growth part of our life, we don't really even take time to identify it.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: And that's what we're going to do here today.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: We're going to talk about it in more detail.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: I'm going to split this particular episode into the mental side of things, the emotional side of things, and the spiritual side of things, and try to put words on the actual different components and how we recognize growth and what growth really is.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: And then, of course, I always tie it back into why the heck do we want to do it?
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: And what's the reward?
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Like what's in it for us?
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: And that's what today's podcast is going to be about.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: The generation of change is literally kind of my foundation concept of why the We podcast is so important to me.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: It's just a it's just something I genuinely believe.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: I firmly believe with all my heart that the Wii Podcast is a catalyst to heal humanity.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: And my goal is 100 million downloads a month.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: My ultimate goal is to help 100 million people understand that they are a spiritual being having a human experience.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And the way that you commune with your spiritual connection is through emotional growth.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And I say it like that because that's what happened for me.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: I share it all the time.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: I can't share anybody else's story.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: I can only share my own.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: That's why I call the We podcast an emotional growth, human transformation podcast.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: My human transformation, the transformation of Joe and how I saw myself, how I identified myself, how I embraced myself from a very hateful, hurtful, ugly position to where today I consider myself a God guy.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: And all of that happened.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: All the transformation happened, the conscious shifting happened, not as a pursuit, but as the consequence of healing the emotional side of myself.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: And that's why for me, it's really the only message I can share is my experience, strength, and hope is the transformation that got me into a communion with a power greater than myself.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: It happened through emotional growth.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: And I try to put it into context of how and why.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Well, the why and the how is because as a human being, as an essence called being, a human, we have a male side of ourselves and we have a female side of ourselves.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: And of course, that's not gender specific, it's not race specific, it's not religious perspective.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: It's literally, and it doesn't matter where you live around the globe.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: If you're a human being, you have two basic sides of yourself.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: The mental side is your physical and mental side, you know, your capacity to think, the capacity to add one plus one, the capacity to know the presidents of your country, the capacity to read, the capacity to do math.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: That's your mental side.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Your physical side is everything physical.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Lifting up a pencil, your heart beating, your lungs breathing, walking, seeing, anything physical.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: That's on the male side of self.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: The other side of self is the female side.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: And in the female side is where our emotions live and our spiritual communion lives.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: It's on the feminine side of self.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: And why I consider us, everybody here, the generation listening to a podcast like this, the generation of change, is because our capacities to make a difference are so much grander today because of the where the world lives than ever before.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: And as we have these capacities to commune with each other in grander ways, at the exact same time that humanity as a consciousness is waking up to a feminine side of itself more and more, all of that put together is how and why my goal of 100 million people is a very realistic thing.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: And quite honestly, it's realistic because in today's society, a click of a button and a million people can hear a podcast.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: A click of a button, literally, there are podcasts out there that 20 million people listen to.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: And that's why I believe 100 million people is a real live thing because the globe has 9 billion.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: 100 million is barely even 1%.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And I believe we can affect 1%.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: And what is it that I'm wanting these 1% to do?
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Nothing.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: All I'm wanting that 1% to do is recognize and remember the truth that's already inside of them.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: I'm not teaching it, I'm reflecting it.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I live from it, and if you're here and you keep coming back, and obviously thousands and thousands of people are, because that's what the show, the We Podcast, ranks so high on the global rankings, because tens of thousands of people are connecting here.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: And what we're connecting from and through is the same divinity that lives in me, lives in every one of you.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Literally, it's the same thing.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: And my capacity to communicate through my divinity, like I'm doing right now, is not unique to me.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: It's just here because I'm practiced with it.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: And you wouldn't be here, you wouldn't be able to make it through a podcast like the We podcast if you weren't a spiritual warrior, if you didn't have some type of communion with a power much greater than your human sense of self.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And the human sense of self is the part of self that wakes you up, that brushes your teeth, that cooks your meals, that makes your decisions, that balances your checkbook, the human you.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: It's a beautiful, wonderful you.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: And the guidance system of the human self is changing from a human perspective to a divinity perspective.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: And we're going to talk about that in the spiritual growth side portion of this episode a little bit later.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: And why I continue to say that we're the generation of change, technology is one of the reasons.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: It really is.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: And literally, why and what am I doing here?
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: What is Joe's ultimate reason for doing this?
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: And my ultimate reason for doing all of this is to reflect back to people, because where two or more are gathered, God is there.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know if you've ever heard that phrase.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And when you can hear from somebody else, whatever it is I'm saying, then and you're connecting with it in some way, and everybody's connection is going to be different.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: There's me and you, the you as the listeners.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: And in this case, this podcast, probably a hundred thousand, have maybe a half a million people will hear this podcast.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: And it's such an infinite thing because technology allows it, and divinity, the spiritual essence of self, is in all human things, all human beings.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: And I personally believe in all beings.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Four-legged creatures, the animals of the world.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: I believe that the rocks of the world have a spirit.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Now, I don't talk about all the rest of that stuff because I'm not an expert in any of that.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: I'm not.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: There are plenty of people out there that have a lot more wisdom associated with that.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: But those are just my beliefs.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: And I want to continue to reiterate because I talk about the spiritual essence, the oneness, the divinity, the God inside of us.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I get pushback.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: People ask me, Well, Joe, are you religious?
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: And I said, Yes.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And they said, Well, what religion are you?
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: I say, all of them.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: And they say, Well, Joe, that can't be.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: I'm like, why not?
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Well, because you have to choose.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: I said, said who?
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Like, who said I have to choose?
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Well, my religion says you have to choose.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: And that's my point.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: I push back on that.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: I push back on the human perspective.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: In Joe's belief, all religion is based on two concepts: one God, live and love.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: All of them.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: You dissect any modern day religion, and it gets back to those two things: one God and love.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: And that's what I believe.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: And in my world, in my communication, and I want people to understand this clearly.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: I am not in any way, shape, or form trying to talk with you about your eternal life.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: What happens to you after you are dead?
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: What's the next phase for you?
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: And most religions, that's what their focus is.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Live a particular way on the human plane.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: And then when you transcend, you get to go wherever your religion says you get to go.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Folks, that is two different topics.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: I am not in any way, shape, or form talking about your eternal life.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about your decision-making process of today, right now, the 27th day of this of September.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: How are you being guided tomorrow morning?
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: That's Joe's conversation, not what happens to you after you die.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: That's a different topic for people much wiser than me.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: And that's what their expertise is, not mine.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: So my whole premise is in all religion, there's a special deity.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: In all personal growth, there's a higher sense of self.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: My question isn't what you call it.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: My question is, are you following it?
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: And if you're not, why?
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Well, I get into the wise.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: The wise, you're not following a power greater than yourself, it's got too many voices in your head.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: And those voices are all based in wound, all of them.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Now that I will have a strong challenge to.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: The whole world of people out there that live in the belief that the positive affirmation causes true change.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: I believe it does in the moment, but it doesn't heal.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: It doesn't heal because if it literally healed and you did a positive affirmation on a Tuesday, you wouldn't have to do it again on a Thursday because the voice that you had the positive affirmation against, the only reason you're trying to change that voice is because that's a voice of a glass empty part of you.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: You wouldn't be changing, hey, I want to make a million dollars.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Nobody does a positive affirmation against, hey, I'm all love, or I want to make a million dollars, or I'm gonna give back and heal the world.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: No one does positive affirmations trying to change those parts' minds.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: They do a positive affirmation trying to change the voice and the belief system of a glass empty.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: I'm not good enough, I'm not well enough, I'm too fat, I'm too stupid, I'm too ugly, I'm too whatever.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Those voices.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Well, you can do a positive affirmation, do it all you want.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: If it worked, you wouldn't have to do it again.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: It doesn't.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: It calms in the moment.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Is it a good thing?
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Of course it's a good thing.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Does it heal anything?
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: No.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: How do I know?
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Because you have to keep doing it over and over.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Fact.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: That's just the facts.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: My message and my relationship to all glass empty voices is the glass empty voice is what you hear in your head.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: The reason you have the glass empty voice is a hole in your heart, is a hurt in your heart.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: And that's where we get into the emotional growth component.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: We really do.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: And the whole idea of growing, of becoming a different us, the personal growth concept.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: It's a you it's a universal concept because we all are on this planet, we're all here this time around to grow.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: The ultimate growing is the grander communion between you and a power greater than you.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: Because if you can live in communion with a power greater than yourself, and that communion, that power is guiding you, then your now moment Tuesday morning is just better.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: It feels better.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: You feel better, you feel more abundant, you feel more whole, you feel more happy, versus waking up on that same Tuesday morning with those glass empty voices beating the crap out of you.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: And that's why we do it.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Truly, it feels good, and it's a wonderful, glassful experience.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: So the whole idea of becoming a new you, that whole process is something that is, I put in the phrase of human transformation of consciousness.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: We are transforming our consciousness, and our consciousness is the part of self that identifies the world relative to us.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Your consciousness is the one that's driving your car, your consciousness is the one that makes the decision to turn right or left.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Your consciousness is the part of you that makes decisions, yes or no, right or wrong, left or right, up or down.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: That's your consciousness.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: And your consciousness also has a self-perception.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And if you're full of hurt and full of angst and full of pain, the way you see yourself is going to be those glass empty voices.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: The way your self-worth, how you value you, is going to be lower if your voices are causing or saying glass empty adjectives about you, how you feel about yourself, which is self-worth, you're going to feel less worthy.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: You're going to feel more empty, you're going to feel more pain.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: So self-identification, how we see ourselves, is how the voices identify us, how we feel about ourselves, self-worth, how we feel about ourselves.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: And then personal integrity is based on do we trust ourselves?
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: And we're going to talk about those different components.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: That's each one of those could be an entire podcast, but we're going to talk about it today in a general way.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: And why is that?
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Because we are growing, literally, personally, spiritually, emotionally growing.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: And it's happening whether you want it to or not.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: It just is.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Now, is it happening for everybody?
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: No.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: No, it's not happening for most.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: That's why I say 100 million people.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: That's only 1%.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: And what does that look like?
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: You're in church and you got a relatively medium sized church, a smaller church, 100 people, you might be the only person in that entire building that knows you can hear your thoughts.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: People that have the conscious capacity to hear their thoughts are unique spiritual beings.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Good or bad?
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: No.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Better or worse?
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: No.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Spiritual path different?
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: And that's what the We Podcast is here to mirror back.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: The whole concept of more and more and more and more and more people are identifying themselves as spiritual versus religious.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: That's a real life thing.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: And I would venture to say a lot of you on this podcast are sensing that.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: And for many of you, it's not an either or, it's a together both.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: I support numerous people that are on, that are spiritually waking up.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: And where they find their answers, they ask questions, they find their answers while they're reading the Bible based on their religious beliefs.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: So growing spiritually is not a battle against religion in any way, shape, or form.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: It's not.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Now, for some people like me, religious structures never worked for Joe.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: That's just me.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: For most, it's both.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: And that we're going to talk about that in more length, the spiritual growth and what's happening.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: And quite honestly, what's the difference between religion and spirituality?
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: We're going to talk about that further.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: The reason, quite honestly, that the growing process is hard because we kind of outgrow who we used to be, literally.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: And as we outgrow who we used to be, there's an emotional component to that.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: And if you don't know what's happening, and it's happening, it can be even more scary.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: And you know, I'm going to give some examples of personal growth, emotional growth, and spiritual growth here in the beginning in a minute.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: But when we are growing, when you are becoming a different you, and what I'm talking about here now is more for people that more of a grander sense of a spiritual essence of themselves, and they're shifting into and they're expanding into a different idea of what life is supposed to be.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: And when that happens, we have to grieve what we used to be to truly embrace and expand who we're becoming.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: And that grieving process is called psychic death.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: My counselor Nancy years ago used to put it in the same context as a snake.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: You know, the life cycle of a snake, every time a snake would get bigger, it would have to shed the skin of its old size.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: And it's the same thing with this, it's the same idea with human transformation.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: We literally are outgrowing the belief systems, the motivations, the styles of activity.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: We outgrow them and we start being guided by a different us.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: But just because you're guided by the different you doesn't mean we're done with the old you.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: And a lot of times you'll literally go through a process, especially when it's dramatically different.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Like when I stopped drinking, now this is 35, 30 plus years ago, the me of the day was a drinker, a drug addict, a chasing of girls, doing crazy stuff.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: That's how I identified myself.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: And I was proud of it.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: I was good at all of it.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: I really was.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Well, and I identified me as all of those addictive satiation, addiction adjectives.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: That's who I identified as.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: I called myself that.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: And I was a guy that said, I want nothing to do with this thing called God.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: I always knew there was a God, was never atheist.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: But I used to say, You leave me alone, I'll leave you alone.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: Don't strike me with lightning, God.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: And if I go to jail, I won't pray for you to get me out.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: That was my agreement with God in my mid-20s.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: And I never became an F you God guy until later, in all my pain, which I can explain that here in a little bit.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: But the whole concept of expanding and becoming grander is why I consider us the generation of change.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: And truly, because we are shifting in the different components of life, we now have a consciousness that can embrace the totality of ourselves.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: And then we give that embraced perspective to our children, unlike how we were raised.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: When I say we, I'm talking about 90%, a large percentage of the people on this podcast.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: You know, a large percentage of people on this podcast are probably from 40 to 70 years old, somewhere in there.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, my son listens at 19, but most 19-year-olds are not going to be turning into the We podcast.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: They're just not.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: The people that are turning into the We podcast and coming back are people that are that have a spiritual connection.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: And the mannerism and the mechanism and the style in which I communicate, it just feels right.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: It resonates with you.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: And if you look at how we were raised as kids, I'm a perfect example.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Raised in the Midwest, a very safe environment.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: My dad worked, my mom was a stay-at-home mom.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: I never needed for anything.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: We weren't wealthy in any stretch of the imagination.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: When it was time to get Joe a bicycle, I had a bicycle.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: You know, I didn't have five pairs of shoes, but I always had a new pair of shoes for school.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: I was well taken care of.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: I was.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: And that's all talking about taking care of validating the physical.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: I went to school and learned math.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: Religion as a kid, you know, I didn't know any different.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: I didn't really care any different.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: But the part that was completely negated was the emotional sense of self.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: I was raised in an environment like most of us where the consciousness of the day wasn't about embracing emotions.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: It wasn't.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: So what happens?
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: That part just doesn't get validated.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: That part just doesn't grow.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: It doesn't develop.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: And when it doesn't develop in a healthy way, then as we get older, we start acting out the guidance system that's developed is developed based on a wounded inner self.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: That's where the glass empty voices come in.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: And we're going to separate all that here in a minute so I can give you some how-to's.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: Basically, if young you weren't taught to embrace and express in healthy ways, mad, glad, sad, and scared.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: If you weren't taught how to do that, if your environment didn't embrace that, then you have wounds in you because any unsurpris any unexpressed emotion of years ago is still living inside of you today.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Now, for most of you, does it run your life?
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: No.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: For most of you, is it a deep, dark angst you can't breathe?
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: No.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: For most of you, it might be the gnaw in your belly, you just know something's kind of missing.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: And you get a little bit of discovery, you get a little bit of growth, you heal some stuff, you feel some stuff, and you're just better and you move on.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: That's where most people are.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Now, some, like myself, I was guided into the depths.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: And I say it all the time.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: If that's you, buckle up and make sure you have support.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: I always had a counselor my entire time.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: I might not have eaten, living on$250 a month, a$40 counseling session, I would go three or four days with no food, literally bread, to save the money to go see counseling.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Because I needed the support.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: And from that place, right, that's where my book, Filling the Void, was written.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: So please visit my website, joemitica.com.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: I literally, and it's one of the exciting things.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: I'm going to talk about it in more length on the next episode, but I got my first referral.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: What is that?
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Not referral, testimonial, which just validates it.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: When I got it, my heart exploded.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: And basically what happened was a gentleman out of Nigeria.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Now I'm in Atlanta, Georgia.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know how many miles between me and Nigeria, but a bunch.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: A man out of Nigeria saw something online on one of my social media platforms.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Whatever I said, I don't even know.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: He connected with it.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: He went to LinkedIn.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: He looked me up.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: He saw on LinkedIn joemitica.com.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: He clicks on joemitiga.com.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: He says, Hey, there's a book here called Filling the Void.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: I'm going to download it and I'm going to read it.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: And he did.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: So he goes through that whole process.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: And did I know any of this?
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Of course not.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: The other day I'm on LinkedIn and he follows me and I see this post.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what the heck?
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: That's my book.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And this guy, his name is Michael O.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: He had such a powerful experience reading the book that he had to share it with the world.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: And the two things I'm going to read his entire testimony on the next podcast, but the two things that he kind of said was the book challenged me to ask, what am I really trying to fill?
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Which is exactly right.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: And he said, the one lesson I'll carry with me, becoming more whole on the inside can change what I build on the outside.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Yes, that's exactly correct.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: And do I take any credit for that?
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: I didn't write the book.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: That book 30 years ago was channeled through me by a power much greater than me.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: That man's effect of reading that book, to me, God wrote that book through Joe.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Now, what did Joe do?
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: I had to put together all the mechanisms.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: I had to put together the technology available so this man in Nigeria could download my book for free.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: And that's exactly why I'm doing it.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Literally.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: So I'm down to 999,999,999, because one guy out of my 100 million got it.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: And that's what I'm here to do, folks.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: That's kind of a full circle experience for me.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: And people say, Well, Joe, you didn't make any money.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: I know it isn't about the money.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: My heart literally exploded when I saw that.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: I was in so much grace.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: I am still in grace now, humbled behind beyond humbled.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: And no amount of money, none, no amount of money could create the experience I have in my heart as I'm speaking right now.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: And I got that testimonial a couple days ago, because it worked.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: It worked.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: How you'll know is in an experience in yourself.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: And when I got that and I read that, the experience was absolutely fantastic.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: And the system that's in place now, the technology that's in place, and that's why we are the generation of change.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: Technology allows a guy in Atlanta to offer a free book around the globe for a guy in Nigeria.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: I have to call him Michael O because I cannot pronounce his last name, was able to read the book that God channeled through me 30 years ago.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: And why was it so powerful for him?
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Because the same divinity that is in me is in him, is in all of us.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: How do I know?
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Last thing Jesus said, before I go sit by my father, I have to go sit by my father.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: He's going to put the same guiding, the same spiritual guide in you that was in me, that guided me.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: And that's all of us, folks.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: The spiritual essence is in us, the divinity.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: And that's where the we comes from.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Human self, higher self, inner self, the inner child.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: And my last episodes were about the inner child.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Well, this episode is about the personal growth we go through from living from the mindset of the we to a consciousness of a we.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: I might have misspoke.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: The mindset of a me, me, to a consciousness of a we.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: That's what human transformation is all about.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: The me, the me, is when self believes its only, its own source, when our humanity believes that I and me have to do it all, that I'm the end all, be all, I'm the beginning, I'm the end.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: And everything else, everything is dependent on the me.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: And that's where most humans live.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Is that a bad thing?
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: No.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: They just don't know any different.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Do they have a spirit inside of them?
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Yes, everybody does.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Are some people more connected to it than others?
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Without question, yes.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Many, many people.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: It's in everybody.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: Most don't know.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: Some know it's there.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: Some not only know it's there, but they're guided by it on a daily basis.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: And when you're guided by all that is, when you're guided by and you follow the essence of all that is, the greatest grand of God that there is, when you follow that guidance, your life is going to be pretty cool.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: I can promise you.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: How do I know?
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Because that's what I do.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: I'm able to do that.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: Because I did a lot of work over a lot of years.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: By practicing of silence, I hope for new people here.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: I'm asking everybody to practice silence five minutes a day.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: And why?
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: And what is silence?
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Silence is when we remove external stimulus.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: The radios, the cell phones, the headphones, the kids, the whatever.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Just go somewhere and sit in silence for five minutes a day.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: Witness your thoughts and then listen for a softer voice.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: I share it all the time.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: I'm in the middle of working a 40,000-piece puzzle.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I've been guided back to silence and now stillness because my Zeus, my my friend Zeus passed over a month ago now.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: And in that silence, I work a puzzle.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: And I say to everybody, if I can do five or six hours a day, you can do five minutes.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: And why do I want you to get in that practice?
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: Because if you really want to be guided by something grander than you, you have to learn how to find the grander guidance.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Well, you learn how to find the grander guidance by consciously putting yourself in an exact position where you remove the external noise and sit with you and your own thoughts.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: Witness your thoughts, listen for a softer voice.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: If your thoughts are too aggressive, write them down.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Listen for the softer voice.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Over time, that you're going to identify that softer voice.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: You're going to hear it, you're going to feel it, you're going to sense it, you're going to experience it.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: And the more you do it, the more you'll be able to follow it.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: The more you follow it, the more you'll be able to do it.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: And eventually, you just follow it naturally.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: A lot of people call that intuition.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: A lot of people call that gut instinct.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: A lot of people call it guidance.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: I call it all the above.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: I'm now recently starting to have gut instinct.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: I didn't even know I had that capacity.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: I didn't.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I share it all the time why women are so powerful at this, because most women have gut instinct in their belly way before they emotionally grow or have any spiritual wisdom.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: A lot.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm just starting that whole gut instinct thing.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: I'll give you a perfect example.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: I had to talk to one of my sisters.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: I have three older sisters yesterday.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: And I'm getting ready to call her, and my gut says, Don't call her.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: Like, I want to call her.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: No, don't call her.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: I listen and I listened and I didn't.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: And I started doing my stuff.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: And sure enough, I text her.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: Hey, Jamie, my sister, hey, can I call you about blah, blah, blah?
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: She said, Yeah, I'll call you when I get home.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: So my instinct, my gut instinct, knew she wasn't there.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: So don't call.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Now, did I know that at the time she wasn't there?
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: No, but my instinct did.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: And I'm getting more and more practiced at following it.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: And I say all of that because if you truly want your life to change, literally, your external world to change, you have to become aware of what guidance system you're following now and help it grow into a grander guidance system.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: And that's what this podcast is all about, that grander guidance system.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: So, what is personal growth?
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: Personal growth is the process we go through of transcending the old and growing into the new.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: And the old is like behavior patterns.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Typically, the old behavior patterns are based more in fear.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Afraid, you know, afraid of losing what you have, afraid of not getting what you want, more guided from a sense of fear.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Now, is it always dramatic and you can't breathe and it's horrible?
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no, and no, it's not.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: But is it that way?
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Yes, it is.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: For most.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Because when we're being guided by only our human sense of self, our human sense of self is being guided.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: You're making the decision of your Tuesday morning based on the voices you're hearing in your head.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: That's how you're doing it.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Now, for some of you, you can make your decisions on a Tuesday morning based on your instinct, based on your feeling, based on your gut.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: Some can.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: And if you can, great.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: Most can't.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Most don't even know that's there.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: So the primary guide is the voices you hear in your head.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: And when you're guided by those voices, and the voices are created from hurt, the guidance is going to be a fear-based guidance.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: It just is.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: That's why.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: And that's why when we're guided by the same voice over and over and over and over, we wonder why our external world is always the same over and over and over and over.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: So, how do we change our external world?
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: We don't.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: We don't change our external world.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: We change our internal world to be guided by glass full thoughts instead of glass empty thoughts.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: And how we do that, how we start with that whole process is you have to write down your glass empty thoughts.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: And that's the first step.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: And the first step is such a powerful thing because it's a self-awareness process.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: That's all it is.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: When I say first step, the first step of every 12-step program is we admit we're powerless.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: That's what the first step is.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: And when you write out the voices, when you write out a first step, which is a process that happens longer into sobriety, but any and all 12-step programs, when you write it out, what you're truly powerless to is not the behavior.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: You're powerless to the voice in your head that's telling you to do the behavior, not the behavior itself.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: Hear what I just said.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: You're powerless to the voice in your head that's telling you to do the old behavior, loving or unloving.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: And typically, if you're doing a few first step, you're wanting to change your actual behavior, the physical behavior.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: But the only way you change it is you have to change the part that's guiding you.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: And that's why we write out those bullet point first steps.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: And I remember when I kind of thought about it, it's like, you know what?
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: If the first step can help some of the most wounded, hurt, fear-based people on the planet, which are active alcoholics, if a fear if a first step can help an active alcoholic stop drinking and start living more of a manageable and functional life, what can it do for everybody else?
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: Well, what it does for everybody else is it creates a sense of awareness and it starts creating a sense of multidimensional.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: You're going to hear the voices in your head.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: There's going to be a part that's writing down the voices in your head.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: There's going to be the voices in your head, and there's going to be a part writing down the voices.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: So right there, there's two parts of you: the voices themselves and the part writing down the voices.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Multi-dimensional.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: And then when you tell somebody else, that's where two or more are gathered.
- 42:41SPEAKER_01: By telling somebody else those voices, you cut the power of those voices down in half.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: And why do we want to do that?
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: Because all of those glass empty voices have a wound underneath.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Now, sometimes you can just hear the voice, get it out of the way, develop a different guidance system, a different set of voices you're going to follow and move on with life.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: A lot of times that happens.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: No big deal.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it doesn't.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Sometimes we truly have to go into the deeper reason why we had the voice in the first place.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: And that's the inner child work.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: And we'll talk about that in future episodes.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: But basically, with the inner child, if you've got a hurt self in you, if you hear the voices, the glass empty voices, the big, bold, ugly, limiting, fear-based voices, and then you feel a more tender, a more gentle, a softer voice, that's your inner child.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: That's your inner sense of self.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: With the first step voices, you write them down with your dominant hand and you tell somebody else.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: With the inner child, if you feel something coming up because those voices are being moved out of the way, then with the inner child, you write with your dominant hand and let Inner child responds with the not non-dominant hand.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: And as we start to do that, as we start to identify glass empty voices in a first step, and glass full voices that can replace them, that starts the process of human transformation.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: When you can be guided by a glass full voice versus a glass empty voice, you're starting the process of changing who you are.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: I go back to my drinking days when I was struck sober, February the 20th, 1994.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: For those of you that are new, I basically stood up after seven days.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: I drank every day for 15 years before.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: Seven days hadn't drank.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: On the seventh day, my addiction had me by the throat.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: I stood up and I said, God, if I'm not supposed to drink a drug, I need your help.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: I feel a rush of energy through my body, a tear out my left eye, and my compulsions for drugs and alcohol were completely removed.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: I had an absolute burning bush experience.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: And 50 days later, memories of being really abused as a kid, which that's what started my seven years.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: But when I stopped drinking, basically, I then the voices in my head that would always want to take me to a bar, or would want to take me to my buddy's house where there's drugs and alcohol, or would want to take me to wherever and chase girls, or would want to take me somewhere and do something crazy.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: All of those voices, every voice that for 15 years guided me, every time they guided me, they were guiding me to wherever drugs and alcohol were, literally.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: So I couldn't let the car be guided by those voices anymore.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: And I didn't.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: So I started listening for a new set of voices.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Now, did I know any of this at the time?
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: No, of course not.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: So what did I do?
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: Basically, when I'd get to a stop sign, I'd be completely lost.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Because all I knew is I couldn't do the old.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: I couldn't follow the old voices.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: So I would say to myself, Well, if the old voice wants me to go left, I'm turning right and we'll see what's down that road.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: And that's what I did.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: That's how I literally changed that over time, literally over a long period of time.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: And that's where you hear the concept, the grateful recovering alcoholic.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: First time I heard that, I was, I thought that was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard.
- 46:37SPEAKER_01: Grateful recovering.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: Who the hell would ever consider sitting in these rooms as a grateful experience?
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: Of course, that was in the beginning.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: The grateful recovering alcoholic is the person that's been around the program long enough.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: They've done the steps long enough.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: They've been away from alcohol long enough, to where their life now mirrors the glass full guidance of themselves and not the glass empty guidance.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: When you're drinking and drugging, your external world is going to be mirroring the voice in your head that wants you to drink and drug.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: So your external world is being guided by the drinker.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: Well, you do it long enough without, you learn how to be guided by a higher you.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: And most a lot of people in the program call that higher you a higher power.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: And when you're guided by that higher power long enough, then your external world mirrors that of a higher power you, a grander you.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: You do it long enough, then you realize one day, what the hell?
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: If I was never an alcoholic and never sat in these rooms, I'd have never created a relationship with a power greater than myself.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Hence the gratitude.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: That took me a long time to get to that gratitude piece because for me, every time I didn't do an old behavior, I'd go deeper and deeper and deeper into emotional pain.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: For most, that wasn't the case.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: They weren't on the path to heal the depths of their pain.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: They're on the path to create a relationship with a power greater than themselves and then live life through that power's guidance system.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: And the more that happens, the more you start identifying yourself like the old me, I would say I was a drinker and a drugger.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: Well, I started identifying myself as a non-drinker, a non-drugger.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: Huge shift between identifications, huge transformation between identifications, between a drinker and a non-drinker perspective.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Because every time I did a new behavior correct, more loving in the external behavior place or patterns, I would feel a deeper sense of pain.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: And it was always so confusing.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what the heck?
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: I'm doing it all right.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: Every external action I'm taking is different from the old.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Why do I still hurt?
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: Well, what I learned over time, much many years later, I still hurt because every time I changed an old behavior into a new behavior, the wound, which was the source of the old behavior, would come up to heal.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: And that's why I did so much inner child work.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Now, as we as a human experience, right, we go through emotional growth.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: We do.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: That personal growth right there, as we just shift from old behaviors to new behaviors, it just kind of happens sometimes.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: But think about think about the natural transitions in life.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: Do you know the single largest component of growth that the human being goes through?
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Do you know what that is?
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: The transformation that you go through.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: It's the difference between a newborn and a two-year-old.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: Those two years are the single most dramatic transformation that the human emotional human process goes through, from newborn to two-year-old.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Think about the difference between a newborn and a two-year-old.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: A newborn, a lot of newborns, when they're firstborn, they don't even know they're separate from their mother yet.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: They don't, their consciousness doesn't know that yet.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: And that's why a lot of wounds, you know, a lot of different belief systems of people will literally take a newborn and will remove them from their mother with the belief that it's good for the baby.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: And they wonder why the baby's crying, crying, crying, crying, crying until he passes out.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: Now, there are cultures out there where the newborn baby, the mom holds the newborn for a year, two years, literally always close, which they say that those kids are more emotionally, emotionally more developed in those younger years, because the transition between birth and gently consciously separating from their mother is a different thing.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: Now, those same kids they say when they get older, they've got some issues because they don't know how to emotionally adapt.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: So, but think about the different shifts that you go through in the natural human experience.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: Think about the difference you you went through from being in middle school to high school.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: You become a high schooler.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Out of nowhere, you're just a kid, a sixth, seventh, eighth grader, but now you're a high school student.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: Think about how that natural transition happened for a lot of people.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: Now, for some people like me, I loved every second of it.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: Bigger, badder, bolder.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: I'm just getting older and I'm getting more closer and closer to the top of the food chain in my world, which was a senior in high school.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: For a lot of people, it's terrifying.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: Terrifying to go from the confines of being a younger student now to the massiveness of a high school.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: But that's just the natural process so very often.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: Most people make those transitions.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: Some do it harder, some do it easier.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: Most people just kind of make those transitions and they start identifying themselves differently.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: You identify yourself as a middle schooler last year.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: Now you identify yourself as a high school student this year.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: That's all part of a human transformation of consciousness, the natural process of change.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: Then you go from being a high school student and kind of the top of the food chain, the senior, and you're kind of the biggest, the baddest, the boldest, and you're, you know, kind of everybody's king of the mountain.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: That was me.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: That was, I was just kind of the king of the mountain as a senior in high school.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: And I was in and around all different groups.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: I had this ability to sing and I had the ability to play football.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: I had the ability to be on the debate team, and I happened to be a math guy.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: So I was kind of in and around all the different groups, literally.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: Now, when we got caught drinking, which every group drank, and since I was in every one of those groups, I was the guy that got two weeks suspended while everybody else got three days.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: I'll never forget it.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: Tolman.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: He's like, Mr.
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: Mittig, you're the one involved with each of these groups.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: I wonder what the common threat here is.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: Well, he was right.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: The difference was, anyways, all of them drank.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: And I literally got two weeks suspended.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: The very first time they wanted me to go clean up outside, and they wanted me to clean up cigarette butts from the kids that smoked, I walked home.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: I said, You kicked me out of here forever.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: They never made me do that again, thank God.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: But the personality at that point, natural process, the human transformation, go from middle school to high school.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: And then for a lot of people, you go out into the world.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: If you're going into the college world, you go from king of the mountain or secure or a bunch of friends are really a great place to your college world.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: And there again, you're going through transformation.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: Some people make that transformation easy.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: Some people love it, some people hate it.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: My oldest son loves it.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: He's in his first two or three months of college.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: He's loving every second of it.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: I hated it.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: It was horrible for me.
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: I was lonely.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: I was lost.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: I didn't know what was up or down.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: I missed home all the time, literally.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: That's a whole nother story, but college was a very hard time for me.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: It really was.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: And then out of college, we, you know, a lot of people, then you go into the work world, the career world.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: And I'm just trying to help you identify where the natural emotional growth of life happens through as we emotionally grow, as we emotionally grow up.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: Now, of course, the challenge is if you drink too much, if you're a drinker and you start drinking in high school and still drinking in college and then still drinking after college, and now you're 40, your emotional IQ at 40 years old is identical to where you started drinking at 16.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: Think about that concept.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: That's why you'll see some 40, 45, 50-year-old men that are drinking that still act like they're freaking teenagers.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying they don't have a child, I'm not saying get rid of your childlike personality.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: I'm saying that too much drinking stun the emotional growth of a human being.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: It truly does.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: And when that happens, that's where those are the people that eventually have to get some real support to change the behavior because even though they're 40 years old, they still wear their high school colors.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: They still wear their college alma mater on their sleeve every minute of every day.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: Now, is there anything wrong with an alumni's support?
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: No, of course not.
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about the person, the man or woman, who at 40 still acts like they're 19.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: That emotional stunt of growth is part of the challenge of the emotional growth portion of transformation.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: And that's where you know, child work comes in, that's where therapy comes in, that's where step work comes in.
- 56:07SPEAKER_01: It helps people identify the behavior patterns of their today at 40, 50, 60, that they're still acting as if they're 14, 19, or 20.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: And those types of things, a 40-year-old acting like they're 20, that's going to cause challenge somewhere in your life, somewhere, somehow.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: And it's hard to see, you won't see it yourself because you've always acted that way.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: But the world around you sees, and if you're acting like that too much, then basically there's been no emotional growth.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: And I'm talking about emotional growth based on maturity, not expression.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: Emotional expression, 99% of people never really learned how to express emotion healthy.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: They do that later in life.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: Any of you that have been in therapy for any length of time, you know what I'm talking about.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Emotional expression.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about lack of emotional maturity.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: Now, for most, you just grow.
- 57:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, you grow up, you change how you see yourself going from a middle schooler to a senior in high school, you see yourself as an older, more independent.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: The day you get your license, you see yourself as more independent than dependent.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: The more you get out in the college world, you start seeing yourself a little even more autonomous, even though most of the time parents or somebody is supporting financially, but you're still having to make a lot more decisions on your own.
- 57:32SPEAKER_01: That's where my oldest son is now.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: So you see yourself more autonomous than dependent.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: And that's just a natural process.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: It's a natural way to mature and then hopefully move on and go out into life.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: Now, all of that is fantastic, and all of that kind of just naturally happens.
- 57:53SPEAKER_01: But what is happening now for humanity as a concept is that the spiritual essence of us is waking up more and more and more.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: Human transformation of consciousness.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: The humanity is waking up.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: I say it 200 years ago, perfectly normal to own a human.
- 58:17SPEAKER_01: Slavery 200 years ago.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: Humanity barely fought the idea.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: Now we look at it as an atrocity that it was.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: Well, that's kind of an extreme example, but not really.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Because literally now, why?
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: What is the reason why more people are identifying themselves as spiritual versus religious?
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 58:41SPEAKER_01: Well, the why is because inside of self, inside of the male-female side of self, inside the female side of you, your humanity is waking up.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: You're part of that emotional and spiritual growth.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: It's happening in you.
- 59:00SPEAKER_01: So the more you become consciously aware of your spiritual sense of self, the more you're going to want to follow that spiritual sense of self.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: The more independent you become, the more autonomous you become, the more empowered you become, literally, because it's waking up in you.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: Now, most religions they don't do it that way.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: Most religions basically have a set structure that generation after generation that after generation has predetermined as correct.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: And the structure of the religion is what you're taught to follow.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: For a lot of people, it works.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: For a lot of people, they feel connected to a lot of people, they love their life.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: Right, slap, dab in the center of their religions.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: Some of my closest friends, my business partner, 50 years, he and his wife have been solid in-the-center Christians, and they love it.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: And I love them.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: His son, same way.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Beautiful people, wonderful people, truly.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: And there's a whole world of people out that the structures of religions don't work.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: It just doesn't.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: You're outgrowing that.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_01: You have a different need, a different pursuit, a different calling, a different awakening.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: And that's the spiritual awakening that's happening.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: And that spiritual awakening, as we do that, as we wake up more and more and more and more to that spiritual essence of ourselves, that's where we start becoming a different us, literally becoming a different you.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: Where that spiritual part of you in the past, in your 20s, 30s, and 40s, for a lot of you, it was there, but it wasn't, there wasn't time, there wasn't space, you weren't guided to it.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: You just weren't.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: And I'm not saying some of you, like me, been on a path for 25 years.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: I always say to people, think back, how long have you been on a conscious path?
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: My first therapy session, 1990, literally February the 16th, 1990.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: My first conscious thoughts before that.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_01: So I can literally say to people with all clarity, I've been on a conscious path over 30, 35 years, 36 years.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: More, because I had my first conscious thoughts before that.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_01: Why do I say that?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: Because I can identify myself, self-identifying self as a man who's been on a conscious path for 35 years, over half my life.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: Well, how long have you been on your conscious path?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_01: It isn't for public knowledge, it's for personal identification.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_01: And if you think back, you'll see, you'll remember, just ask, you'll remember, and then it's kind of a cool feeling to see, you know, dang, I've been on a conscious path a long time.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: Does that make your today any better?
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_01: No, but it kind of feels good to just know it and see it.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: Well, as humanity is waking up faster and faster and faster, the spiritual essence called you is becoming more and more intense inside.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: That's why more and more people are believed they're, when asked, more spiritual than religious.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: And the spiritual transformation that's happening is the craving for a oneness, a craving for a communion with this power greater than ourselves.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: Well, for Joe, how I accomplished that craving, as how I accomplished that communion, wasn't through the pursuit of a spiritual side of me, the spiritual aspect, it was through the pursuit of the emotional side of me.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: And the feminine side of us is where the spiritual and emotional lives.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_01: So the deeper I went emotionally, the more connected I became emotionally, the deeper I became emotionally connected with my inner child.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: Every time I would grieve the old grief, my little kid would open up more and more.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: Literally, as if the heart of my little kid, the inner emotional me, would open up.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: And then one day I just reached this place to where the inner me, the inner child in me, was just open enough to where I started having these memories, this whole concept of the spiritual essence.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: I never could see a higher power, I could feel it.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_01: Literally, the experience as if my higher power, a higher energy pattern sitting with me.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: And that's a powerful thing.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: And it all came through the emotional growth.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: Well, every time we grow and every time we shift, and every time we start becoming a different us, every time we start learning consciously how to be guided by the grander voice in us versus the older voice in us, the less, the more dense voice in us, there's a psychic death experience.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: You are expanding your consciousness by being by pursuing and then following the guidance system of your higher power.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: You're expanding your consciousness.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_01: And with that expansion, we have to grieve the old psychic death.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: With the expansion, I used to use the metaphor of a of an aquarium.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: And I would imagine myself as a 50-gallon aquarium.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: And a 50-gallon aquarium was my capacities.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_01: And depending on how much water was in the aquarium, was my ability.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: Capacity, 50 gallons.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_01: Ability in the beginning, five.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: I could barely do anything.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: Well, as I healed and I felt better and emotionally was feeling better and more and more connected, my ability to live as the capacity of a 50-gallon tank grew.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: Well, eventually, my capacities and my abilities were both 50.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: And then I would go through this massive psychic death experience.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_01: I had no idea what the hell was going on at the time.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_01: None.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_01: It would feel like I'm working and working and trudging and trudging and doing the best I can.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: And I finally feel like I've reached a pinnacle and I've made it and I'm here.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: And then boom, like a two by four across my head, and I would go through psychic death.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_01: And it would be like I was, I would imagine myself in the metaphor of climbing up a blazon cactus-filled sand to get to the top of the mountain, believing that when I'm at the top of the mountain, I'm at the pinnacle and I'm I've made it and everything's going to be great, and life is going to be wonderful right there.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_01: And then the mountain would be removed.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: And my higher power had a lot of fun with me, I guarantee you.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_01: Because then the mountain would be removed.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_01: And everything I thought was true was false.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: Everything I believed was right was wrong.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: Everything I was going through got me to the top of that mountain.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_01: But the top of the mountain wasn't the end.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_01: The top Mountain was the launch, and literally I would grieve psychic death.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_01: It the experience as if death dying, me dying.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, a part of me was in psychic death.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: The old Joe, the old conscious capacity I identified as a 50-gallon tank.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: That old Joe was in psychic death.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_01: The skin of the old Joe was the 50-gallon tank.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: And I would grieve and I would grieve and I would grieve.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: And then afterwards, I'd just be so confused.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: I'd still grieve.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_01: But then I realized I could sense my capacities had expanded.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: So I went from a 50-gallon tank to a 500-gallon tank, which, wow, that's fantastic.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_01: Look at me.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: I'm so much more capacity.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_01: I'm so much more expanded.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: My heart feels wide open.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_01: I should feel great.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: No, you feel like crap.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: Because now you still got that same 50 gallons.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_01: Your ability is only 50 gallons out of 500.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_01: So it's still hard.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: One of the single hardest, confusing parts of the spiritual path for me is I believed wholeheartedly.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_01: Every time I did something great, I should feel good.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_01: Never was the case.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_01: Feel good was never the immediate response.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: So I want you to hear me.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_01: The spiritual growth component of your path is for warriors.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_01: Will you eventually feel wonderment?
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_01: But wonderment is the consequence, not the direct result.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_01: Now, in my path, you know, things would continue to grow.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_01: I would change more behaviors.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_01: I'd get deeper with my little kid.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: That 500-gallon tank would start filling up.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_01: My availability to work, capacity to work, ability to work, ability to communicate, ability to function grew.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_01: I'm filling up that 500-gallon tank.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_01: The 500-gallon is capacity, spiritual capacity.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: Now at a 500-gallon spiritual capacity, was I sitting one with God?
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: Did I know there was a God?
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_01: What did I call it?
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: Spirit or great spirit.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: I could never call it God way back when.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_01: I had too much of the old religious connotation to God.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_01: I couldn't do it.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_01: Hair on the back of my neck would raise.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_01: But at that 500-gallon consciousness, I was literally consciously aware, without question, there was a power greater than me.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: Could I follow it?
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: Did I feel safe with it?
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_01: Did I did I try?
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: Was I any good at it?
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I made it.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_01: Did it bring me comfort?
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: In fact, the more I did it right, the more pain I was in.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_01: Because I had to heal all the garbage.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_01: I had to heal all the old stuff.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_01: So the more faith I gained with the capacities of the 500-gallon tank, then I would do, I would interact to the best of my ability with a power greater than myself.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_01: Now, again, the confusion was well, if I'm connected with God, it should be all easy.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_01: God's here to rescue.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_01: No, God's not here to rescue.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_01: God's here to give you the strength and courage to heal, feel what you need to heal.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_01: That's where I came up with that phrase.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_01: Dear God, give me the strength and courage to feel what I need to heal.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: God's not codependent, not.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_01: Again, that was a big confusion of mine.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: I kept saying, if the more connected I am to God, why do I still hurt?
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_01: Well, you hurt because I wasn't done with the emotional growth yet, the emotional part.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_01: So if you're if you feel like you're one with God, if you feel like you're connected with God, if you feel, if you can sense it, you can feel it, you can embrace it, whatever, and you're still hurting.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: Understand those are two different concepts.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: Your experience of communing with a power greater than yourself is of your divinity.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: Your emotional pain is of your inner child and your humanity.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: They can both be in your now moment at the exact same time.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_01: Just because you're in pain does not mean you're not in connection with your higher power.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_01: In fact, it's probably the exact opposite.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_01: Because without your higher power, you would still be doing your old behaviors.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_01: You still do your own, your old external behaviors.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: There's no pain.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: Because the old external behaviors that ran your whole life were motivated by the voices which were created by the pain.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_01: Well, hear what I just said.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_01: Your old behavior patterns that were your old life.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_01: And the glass empty voices are the are sourced by the wound in your belly, the hurt in your belly.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_01: Well, with a higher power now in your life, connecting more and more with your life, you stop doing the old behavior.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: So that means you stop following the old voices, which then leaves only leaves the pain left.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_01: Told the story about my friends out of Connecticut.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_01: Of course, the dad was the active alcoholic and he does all this raging and whatever.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: You know, that's big and hard and brutal.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_01: But I work more with the mom who is the codependent.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_01: And I told her, get out, get safe, get the money out of the bank and get safe.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_01: Go sit on your couch.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_01: But I have to help him, I have to this, I have to that.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_01: No, that's called codependence.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: He has to go through his angst.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_01: And if you get to keep him out of his angst, you're contributing to his alcoholism.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: That's your codependence.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: And believe it or not, she heard me.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_01: She sat on her couch and stayed for those three or four days.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: She became aware of a 16 or 17-year-old teenager in her.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_01: She became aware of an eight-year-old little girl in her.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: And as she embraced herself, her husband, he went through the dark night of the soul.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_01: He did.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_01: He's the guy who said, pray like a warrior, not a Christian.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: You're in battle here, pal.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_01: Pray like a warrior.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_01: And he did.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_01: Great news.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_01: 60 days later, he's back in the middle of his program.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_01: Thank God.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_01: And she healed a bunch of her stuff.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: By her not following her old voices, I have to help him.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_01: He can't do it by himself.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_01: I don't want him to be sad.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: All of those old voices, by her not being guided and following those old voices, her husband felt the pain he needed to reach out to his sponsor.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_01: And she got to the little kid underneath that pain, which was the source of the pain in the first place, which is very, very powerful.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_01: So I want you to hear, folks, you can have a spiritual communion and be in personal pain all at the same time.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_01: Eventually, you hear the pain.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_01: You do.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_01: And eventually the expansion goes from a 500-gallon tank to a 5,000-gallon tank.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_01: And the more your capacity expands spiritually, the more your availability to commune with a power greater than yourself just becomes more effortless.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_01: It just becomes more and more the you.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_01: Now, of course, the challenge with that is, right?
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_01: When you're connecting with a power greater than yourself, and you're feeling that sense of accomplishment, you're feeling that sense of autonomy, you're feeling that sense of oneness inside, then your need to people please goes away.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_01: The need to drink alcohol, gone.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_01: The need to be rough and tough and big and bad.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: No, you don't.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_01: Your codependence to rescue other people, no more of a need.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_01: So think about the challenge.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_01: If you were a codependent people pleaser your entire adult life and you married a person, male or female, that married you as a codependent people pleaser, what do you think this person over here is experiencing now?
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_01: Loss, grief?
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_01: Where the heck did my partner go?
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: Is what they're experiencing.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_01: And that's why, folks, I say it all the time.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_01: Relationships are either growing or going.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_01: Because your ability to be that old you living through your old glass empty voices, you're outgrowing it and then you're healing it.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_01: Well, what does it get replaced with?
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_01: It gets replaced with a communion with a power greater than yourself.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_01: That's why that I believe that that website, divorce post, write her down, folks.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_01: Because if you're connected now and your partner's not growing, sooner or later you're going to outgrow that partner.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_01: You are.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_01: Now, I'm not saying that people can't grow together.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_01: Of course you can.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_01: And I'm not saying it has to be perfect, but there's going to be places where it just doesn't, it just doesn't work.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_01: Eventually, I'll never forget it.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_01: In this 5,000-gallon tank, really expansive.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_01: I was working the program.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_01: I was back functioning in life.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_01: I had some pretty cool relationships.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_01: I'm journaling with my little kid all the time.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_01: I'm not grieving every second of every day.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_01: I'm after now my seven years.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_01: And then one day, I'm in that same experience.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm going to the top of the mountain.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm surrendering to the bottom of the ocean.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_01: And I hear my higher power say, Joe, your answers are at the bottom.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_01: Stop swimming.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_01: Stop swimming.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_01: I can't stop swimming.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_01: No, it's too scary.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_01: I can't do it.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_01: I'm hearing myself.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_01: I can't do it.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_01: I can't do it.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_01: I can't do it.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_01: My higher power just kept saying, Joe, the answers are at the bottom.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_01: Stop swimming.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_01: And sure enough, I'll never forget the experience.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: I just stopped.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_01: In that moment, I just stopped.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_01: I stopped all emotional fighting.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_01: I stopped all emotional everything.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_01: I just stopped.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_01: And I literally witnessed myself just float to the bottom of the ocean.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_01: And I'll never forget that experience as long as I live.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_01: Because in that moment, I didn't, it didn't matter to me.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: You know, it's all a psychic thing.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_01: It's all part of your energetic process.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_01: It's all part of the energetic emotional concept here.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_01: And then I hear my power higher power say, breathe, Joe.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_01: Breathe.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: And sure as shit, I breathed.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_01: I took a breath.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_01: I'm literally metaphorically at the bottom of the ocean.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_01: And I took a breath.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_01: And what did that breath mean?
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_01: It meant I was living the impossible.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_01: And in the living of the impossible, that means we can literally live in complete communion with a power greater than ourselves.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_01: We can.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_01: We can do it right now.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_01: And from that moment forward, there was never a separation again.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_01: I literally live more days than not, especially now, where myself and a power greater than me is kind of the same thing.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_01: And does that mean I'm devoid of emotion?
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_01: Does that mean that me and her child's all done?
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_01: When my dog Zeus died, my little kid is still grieving the loss of my best friend Zeus, my 12-year-old dog.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_01: And we can still, we still have the human experience.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know if we ever transcend the human experience.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_01: I believe a man like Jesus was here in pure divinity.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_01: I don't, I think his consciousness was pure divinity.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_01: I don't, I do not believe that Jesus had any level of human consciousness at all, pure divinity.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_01: That's why I believe when Jesus used the pronoun me, Jesus was describing himself as pure divinity.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_01: Follow me was Jesus' words.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_01: Well, people will translate the me as if he's human, follow the human essence of the man.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_01: And that's why I challenge all the time.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_01: You can't have it both ways.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: This human was either divine or he was human.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_01: And you have an entire religion that says he's divine.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_01: But then when he starts pronounning himself, you category categorize him as human.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_01: When Jesus said follow me, he only had a me.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_01: And his me was his divinity because he only had a consciousness of divinity.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_01: How do I know?
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_01: He walked on freaking water.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_01: And by the way, any of you out there walking on water, come find me, please.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_01: I want you on my show.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_01: In the meantime, that's why I came up with the concept of a we.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_01: I ain't walking on water anytime soon, folks.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_01: And I live a beautiful communion with the power of greatly myself.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_01: But my humanity is very much in place, and my inner child is very much in place.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_01: That's why I describe us, the human experience of today as a we, human self, higher self, inner self.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_01: I believe people like Jesus only had a me, which was his divinity.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_01: So when Jesus said follow me, he's saying, follow divinity.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_01: Well, that's what this podcast is about.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_01: Teaching people how to follow your divinity.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_01: How do you hear your divinity?
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_01: In your silence.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_01: Get into sacred silence, witness the big voices, listen to the small voices.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_01: How do you experience your divinity from a truly sense of oneness?
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_01: You have to heal the emotional reasons, you're cut off from it.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_01: The reason you're cut off from your oneness of a power greater than yourself is suppressed emotion.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_01: How do I know?
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_01: Because that's what happened to me.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_01: And I'm no different than any of you.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_01: The way I'm very different than everybody here is where I started.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_01: I started in a deep, dark, miserable, full of self-hate spot.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_01: Most of you aren't there.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_01: Most of you don't ever even know what I'm talking about.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_01: There's some of you, there's some of you hardcore alcoholics.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_01: This guy the other day, the one up in Connecticut, he knew the difference is he was there for three hours.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_01: I was there for six years.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_01: That's why I could help him.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_01: Literally, he was there for three hours, one night.
- 1:20:07SPEAKER_01: Well, what changed?
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_01: I healed the emotional side of me.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_01: I expressed through inner child work the suppressed emotions of my childhood, period.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_01: And as all that suppressed emotion was removed, the only thing left was on the female side my inner sense of self and my divine sense of self.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_01: Through conscious shifts and psychic death, me becoming the me, the emotional and personal growth that helped me let go of the old and trust who I'm becoming.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_01: The letting go of the old is all part of the psychic death.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_01: It's a natural transformation of psychic death.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_01: You grieve the yesterday just like a snake grieves its skin.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_01: And then the concept that what's left is the part you're becoming.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_01: And the becoming part of you, how you know you're becoming that part, is you'll sense yourself being guided by a grander you, literally.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_01: What you will hear in the voices, the grander you will guide you in voices that are more all-inclusive, versus the wounded you in voices of absolutes, all or nothing.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_01: The grander you is going to be a voice like, maybe we can.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_01: Let's try, let's work together, let's get some help, let's dream big.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_01: Let's dream big and get support.
- 1:21:39SPEAKER_01: And let's dream big and let's go for it.
- 1:21:42SPEAKER_01: And even if we get beat up and beat down, whatever, we'll just get help.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_01: Your higher power is going to guide you through all inclusive voices.
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_01: Yourself will say, the hell with that.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_01: Stop, you're no good, you're a loser, don't even start.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_01: That's the glass empty you.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_01: And that those are the differences.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_01: Those glass empty you voices, though, are the voices of your yesterday.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_01: They do not have to guide your tomorrow.
- 1:22:07SPEAKER_01: They don't.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_01: And you do not have to heal the reason you have them there to have a different guidance system.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_01: And the truest way you're gonna know you're in a different guidance system where you're becoming the new you is the pursuit of giving back.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_01: Literally.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_01: That's how we heal humanity.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_01: Because in our humanity sense, in our living from our humanity, we're pursuing gratitude.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_01: We put out into the world, we get back, we're grateful.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_01: Living from a sense of your grander sense of self, you put out in the world with no expectation of return, but you feel a grandness, a grace because you gave.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_01: And then when it comes back, the experience is all it's all encompassed.
- 1:22:55SPEAKER_01: When I saw my book on another man's LinkedIn page, and he wrote this big, long, beautiful thing.
- 1:23:04SPEAKER_01: He was so moved by the book filling the void.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_01: Go get it, folks.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_01: JoeMitica.com.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_01: It's free.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_01: Literally.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_01: Click, click, click.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_01: He did it in Nigeria.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_01: And you know the bottom line, when he asked himself the questions, what am I really trying to fill?
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_01: And the the ultimate is when he said, Becoming more whole on the inside can change what we build on the outside.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_01: Those two concepts is exactly what that book is about.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_01: The difference with the book, it's 105,000 words, it's 275 pages.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_01: You can read it over and over and over and over at your time frames.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_01: Let it support you.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_01: However, and you're going to be guided to different parts of it.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_01: How do I know?
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_01: Because you wouldn't be able to make it on a spiritual podcast like this if you weren't a spiritual warrior.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_01: And the book, folks, I can take no claim to it.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_01: I can't.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_01: I didn't write it.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_01: God channeled that book through me.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_01: I had the pencil and paper.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_01: And I give it back freely.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_01: So the full circle, how do we know?
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_01: Is the experience I have in my heart right now?
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_01: Michael O, a man in Nigeria, is the first, it's the he's the first.
- 1:24:23SPEAKER_01: Over time, a hundred million more of people that are going to read stuff that God channels through me and technology allows the world to have it.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_01: Click of a button.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_01: And that's how together we heal.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_01: And together we move forward.
- 1:24:37SPEAKER_01: And together, as we literally understand that the communion with a power grander than yourself is truly available, and there's going to be emotional consequences at the same time.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_01: They're happening simultaneously, not independently of each other.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_01: So very often we literally believe if we were spiritually connected, we wouldn't be in emotional pain.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_01: And that's a falsehood.
- 1:25:01SPEAKER_01: It's not true.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_01: Quite honestly, for a while, the more spiritually connected you become, the more emotional pain you're going to be in.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_01: And as you heal through that emotional pain, that just makes you grow into a grander fish tank.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_01: The deeper you go, the grander your fish tank, literally.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_01: And eventually there's no more fish tank.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_01: And the only thing left is you, a higher power, and a little kid who's okay.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_01: And that, folks, is where I live today.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm telling you, if I can do it, you can certainly do it.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_01: That's an absolute truth.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_01: As more of us do it, more of us heal.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_01: As more of us understand the emotional growth component of spiritual transformation, as we put voices, we write the big voices down and tell them to somebody else.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_01: We listen to the inner part of ourselves in dual journaling, and we literally express ourselves out into the world by healthy emotion.
- 1:26:04SPEAKER_01: The consequence is the communion with a power greater than yourself.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_01: The way you live communion with the power greater than yourself, you're going to crave giving back somehow, somehow.
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_01: Some people are going to raise$100 million, Mr.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_01: Damon did.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_01: Some people are going to make, are going to make banana bread and sell it and give the money to charity.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know how it's going to be fit for you, but I do know as more and more of us do it, that's how we heal humanity.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_01: And together, folks, that's what the We podcast is.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_01: Together, we are healing.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_01: Together, we are growing.
