- 0:01Speaker 1: Water house.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Why so I can rend it back to you. Just
- 0:05Speaker 2: pay what you can un till you get back on
- 0:06Speaker 2: your feet. Net Flanders, I can't believe what you totally
- 0:11Speaker 2: did for us. Well, seriously, Ocean said to the dirt,
- 0:14Speaker 2: I appreciate the sentiment.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Four Finger Discount, dude, Welcome to four Finger Discant, where
- 0:36Speaker 3: this week we've gone all the way back to season twenty.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Oh boy, Oh boys review. The episode is titled No
- 0:43Speaker 4: Loan Again, Naturally. I am Dando and I am guy. Yes,
- 0:46Speaker 4: welcome to the No Loan Again Naturally episode, the one
- 0:50Speaker 4: where you felt sympathy for a landlord.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:53Speaker 4: I have a lot of things to say about this episode.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I have one. It sucked.
- 0:59Speaker 4: There are actually a few really good gags in this
- 1:03Speaker 4: But let's getting to the point now where you're watching
- 1:05Speaker 4: episode going this isn't a good episode. There's just a
- 1:07Speaker 4: few good jokes throughout it.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yeah. I have probably used this analogy in the past,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but hey, a good analogy is worth repeating. I think
- 1:13Speaker 1: you've repeated that line a few times as well, because
- 1:17Speaker 1: a good gag is worth repeating to you and sort
- 1:22Speaker 1: of apropos for this episode. This is a poorly designed
- 1:25Speaker 1: and poorly built house. It has some really nice art
- 1:28Speaker 1: on the walls, and that's it. Yeah it's pink painted
- 1:31Speaker 1: a nice color, and that's it. Because yeah, this is
- 1:35Speaker 1: shabby and shoddy, but yeah, one or two good gags
- 1:38Speaker 1: that actually feel if not vintage era, then vintage era adjacent.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's like, this wouldn't get sort of laughed out of
- 1:45Speaker 1: the room if say, Cold and O'Brien was in there.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's not bad. Give it another trick, give it a
- 1:50Speaker 1: second draft. Kid, Yeah, why are you calling me a kid?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Codon O'Brien, I'm older than I.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Think with four figured game in the podcast, Now, what
- 1:57Speaker 4: you're going to get is grumbling guy and Dando for
- 2:00Speaker 4: in twenties, and.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I think we're going to try and exceens well.
- 2:03Speaker 4: We always try and focus on the positives as well.
- 2:05Speaker 4: There are positives in this episode and we'll dive into that.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I think we do some of the more in depth
- 2:09Speaker 4: discussion on these post Golden Year episodes that I'm.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Very proud of. But before we.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Get into all the discussion on this episode and whatnot,
- 2:16Speaker 4: we need to first of all, thank our patients. Thank
- 2:18Speaker 4: you to do with the people who know who really
- 2:20Speaker 4: matter at who support this show. Our support is on Patreon.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Thank you so much for supporting the showlder the new
- 2:24Speaker 4: people who joined the family this week, and getting access
- 2:26Speaker 4: to over one hundred hours of bonus content. We'll be
- 2:27Speaker 4: giving our shoutouts later in the episodes, So thank you guys.
- 2:30Speaker 4: We've got new members of the fan, we do, indeed. Yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 4: well that's brilliant each week, yes, but big news here
- 2:35Speaker 4: at the Dandou household. So last week we reviewed Barts
- 2:38Speaker 4: dog gets an f and tribute to Jet. We lost
- 2:40Speaker 4: our Geddi boy recently and I sort of swore to
- 2:43Speaker 4: the kids or saw to myself.
- 2:45Speaker 1: No pets for a while. It's not going to happen.
- 2:47Speaker 4: And then it's almost I don't believe in signs and
- 2:52Speaker 4: miracles and things. I believe in coincidences, right, but I've
- 2:55Speaker 4: never seen.
- 2:55Speaker 1: A cat the church of coincidence.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I've never seen a cat in our estate right since
- 3:04Speaker 4: we've lived here, and we've lived here for thirteen years now, right,
- 3:07Speaker 4: never seen a single cat. So three days after we
- 3:11Speaker 4: get back from picking up Jet from Bendigo, we drove
- 3:14Speaker 4: all the way to Benny Go of the kids to
- 3:15Speaker 4: pick up his ashes, and we got back this cat
- 3:17Speaker 4: just appeared in our backyard and why is there a
- 3:19Speaker 4: cat in the backyard. Here's a young cat, and obviously
- 3:23Speaker 4: it was astray, had no collar on, and it was
- 3:25Speaker 4: going under our deck, and I went, look, the last
- 3:26Speaker 4: thing I want is a female pregnant cat going under
- 3:28Speaker 4: our deck and having kittens. So I got it out
- 3:31Speaker 4: and I blocked the deck, but it kept coming back
- 3:33Speaker 4: night after night, to the point where I'm sitting there
- 3:34Speaker 4: and I was sort of playing PlayStation or on watching TV
- 3:37Speaker 4: and seeing his cat in our backyard, and I'm like,
- 3:39Speaker 4: what are you doing?
- 3:39Speaker 1: Opened the door. I'm like pus puss and came inside
- 3:42Speaker 1: and I was like, you must be somebody's pet. He's
- 3:44Speaker 1: so tame. And she just literally came inside and slept
- 3:47Speaker 1: on my lap and I went, oh, no, what are
- 3:50Speaker 1: you doing to me? What are you doing to me?
- 3:52Speaker 4: I went, no, Brendan, don't do this, don't do this. No,
- 3:54Speaker 4: it's just just astray or someone's cat. They'll put it
- 3:56Speaker 4: back outside every night lo and behold ten pm. Ten pm,
- 4:01Speaker 4: either ten minutes two or ten minutes after this cat
- 4:03Speaker 4: would be at our back door and I'm thinking, well,
- 4:05Speaker 4: somebody must be letting it out at this time. And
- 4:06Speaker 4: this is coming to get some extra food anyway. So
- 4:09Speaker 4: I said to me, I'm going to catch it. Catch
- 4:10Speaker 4: this cat, take it to the vet to get it scanned.
- 4:12Speaker 4: See he's gonna own.
- 4:13Speaker 1: A blah blah blah.
- 4:14Speaker 4: So I catch his cat and Nicholas like, yeah, we're
- 4:15Speaker 4: not keeping a cat, not getting the cat, blah blah blah.
- 4:17Speaker 4: And she's like, what are you even looking up for.
- 4:18Speaker 1: This cat for?
- 4:18Speaker 4: And I was like, oh, it's so nice. I just
- 4:20Speaker 4: want to make sure it's safe. I don't like cat's
- 4:22Speaker 4: being out in the wild strays if it's a nice cat.
- 4:24Speaker 4: She's like, fine, whatever, So I'll put it in the
- 4:26Speaker 4: cat cage and we go to bed, and the cat
- 4:28Speaker 4: was sleeping in our wardrobe, not the wardrobe covered like
- 4:31Speaker 4: a walk in wardrobe, walking like a walking robes whatever.
- 4:34Speaker 4: They are walking robe, open room, and it's in the
- 4:37Speaker 4: little cat carrier. I'm sleep in there and it's me owing.
- 4:39Speaker 4: And Nicola wakes up to go to work the following
- 4:40Speaker 4: day and she says, sure to take the blanket off
- 4:42Speaker 4: this cage. Cat won't shut up, and I was like, sure,
- 4:44Speaker 4: I was telling you the other day. She takes the
- 4:46Speaker 4: blanket off and I'm laying in bed, minds close to
- 4:48Speaker 4: and within three seconds of here.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Oh my god, you're so beautiful. Oh you're so beautiful.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I'm like, looks like we're getting the cat Bendeva's pussing
- 4:57Speaker 1: boots look on you. Yeah, never fail. Oh my god,
- 5:00Speaker 1: he's a wonderful look Dan. I hate to say it.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I hate to get a little chicken soup for the
- 5:06Speaker 1: soul on you. But you know, sometimes you don't choose
- 5:09Speaker 1: a pet. Sometimes a pet chooses you. Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 4: So it's just one of those cats where it's just
- 5:13Speaker 4: you scratch it and it immediately starts purring and his
- 5:15Speaker 4: rolls over and just sort of belly rubs in your arm.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You know why because cats are sly, Yeah, and they're smart.
- 5:20Speaker 1: That's what I didn't want one. And it's going to
- 5:23Speaker 1: run this house. And last night I built a cat tower.
- 5:26Speaker 1: He really did, folks. He went on yes, a site
- 5:30Speaker 1: that runs with schmamers on dot schmom and he's created
- 5:34Speaker 1: this incredible castle for this for this cat. Pretty good
- 5:37Speaker 1: cat tree, isn't it. It's a very nice cat two
- 5:39Speaker 1: meters talls, got all these different houses to sit inside,
- 5:41Speaker 1: and it's got various levels. It looks Yeah, it looks
- 5:45Speaker 1: like an mc esha painting. It's literally a kid's play
- 5:48Speaker 1: center for cats. Well, when you've got a cat, you
- 5:52Speaker 1: essentially have another kid. I just need a ball pit.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah that's true. Yeah, but yeah, welcome to the family cat. Yes. So,
- 5:58Speaker 1: so what happens to it? To the vet?
- 6:00Speaker 4: Got scanned, no microL chip, no owner. They have to
- 6:03Speaker 4: take it to the pound for eight days before I
- 6:05Speaker 4: can go and adopt it.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, we're not going to dismiss the fine work
- 6:10Speaker 1: of veterinarians and animal shelters and all that kind of stuff,
- 6:13Speaker 1: particularly the one here in Geelong, which I think does
- 6:14Speaker 1: really really great work. But at the same time, it
- 6:17Speaker 1: felt like we don't be going to the details. But
- 6:19Speaker 1: it felt like you were getting a little screwed over
- 6:20Speaker 1: by big Vet.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Yeah, because I thought it. I said, Ki, do you
- 6:23Speaker 4: guys charge the scam for Michael chips? And she goes, no, no,
- 6:25Speaker 4: bring it down, will scan it. And then she just said, oh,
- 6:27Speaker 4: you kind of a back. Now you didn't that was
- 6:30Speaker 4: a part of the deal. She's like, oh, we have
- 6:33Speaker 4: to wait eight days and if you apply for it
- 6:35Speaker 4: and then maybe you can adopt it. Wait a minute,
- 6:37Speaker 4: so I rescue this cat, bring it down for a scan,
- 6:39Speaker 4: and now you're take it away from saying that I
- 6:40Speaker 4: might be able to adopt it. But it turns out
- 6:41Speaker 4: I spoke to the pan like, yeah, no one else
- 6:43Speaker 4: is called up for it, so after the eight day
- 6:45Speaker 4: grace period, you can adopt it.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So we're going to be getting this case. I was
- 6:47Speaker 1: about to say, no, good deed goes unpunished, but okay,
- 6:49Speaker 1: look it sounds like things are working out, especially for
- 6:51Speaker 1: the cat.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Yes, and it's going to be yeah, getting a good
- 6:53Speaker 4: life here. We like to look after animal, so it
- 6:55Speaker 4: looks like Dana's getting a cat.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Welcome to the wonderful world of cat dad ownership. I've
- 7:02Speaker 1: been a member of this fraternity for quite some time. Yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 1: it's rewarding and fun. Maybe we can play dates. Maybe,
- 7:09Speaker 1: except basically have it for the for the cat tower.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Except I think basically has probably been institutionalized by begging.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Solitary confinement in my house that never goes outside, never
- 7:18Speaker 1: goes outside.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Okay, I feel like this cat's going to have to
- 7:20Speaker 4: be that as well, because it was astray and they
- 7:22Speaker 4: said I'm going to keep it inside for at least
- 7:24Speaker 4: a month, if not too because you let it out.
- 7:25Speaker 1: It's gonna go straight back to where we us to
- 7:27Speaker 1: hide out. Oh yeah, absolutely, Yeah, it's trying to keep
- 7:30Speaker 1: that back door closed with two kids running inside and out.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Good luck, good luck. Yeah, I might be getting a
- 7:36Speaker 1: cat for a couple of days. Someone might be, And
- 7:39Speaker 1: I hope you applaud. I'm about to do it because
- 7:41Speaker 1: I'm about to really land this plane. Someone might have
- 7:43Speaker 1: to tap into their home equity to you know, build
- 7:46Speaker 1: like a cat door or something like that. See what
- 7:48Speaker 1: I did there? Yeah? Do you guys see what I
- 7:50Speaker 1: did there? I hope So for.
- 7:52Speaker 4: All this episode's faults, watching this in twenty twenty five,
- 7:55Speaker 4: it is somewhat related for.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Because if you're fortunate enough to own a home, yes,
- 8:04Speaker 1: you might want to tap into this miraculous thing called
- 8:06Speaker 1: home equity. Put the bill on the house. Put the
- 8:08Speaker 1: bill on the house, and make it future homeowner's problem.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You won't lie kind of hit home for me, not intended,
- 8:17Speaker 1: but grated. You're not throwing Mardi Gras parties, that's your
- 8:19Speaker 1: buying and not even doing that days unless I'm sort of,
- 8:25Speaker 1: you know, racking up bonus points at macas, Like can
- 8:28Speaker 1: I get a free apple? Paar? With this amount of
- 8:30Speaker 1: points that I've got. Yeah, sure can, sir, he still
- 8:32Speaker 1: stopped up on hot cross buns or you're eating them all.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I am down. I'm glad you mentioned you were so angry.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Then well I'll tell you why why I'm down to
- 8:41Speaker 1: my Well, the hog was a meant to come out
- 8:44Speaker 1: your first hop movie or the second. Hold. Yeah, we'll
- 8:48Speaker 1: get to favorite moments in a little while as well.
- 8:50Speaker 1: We're approaching Good Friday as we record this. This is
- 8:53Speaker 1: the day that you traditionally eat hot cross bunge. Tradially,
- 8:55Speaker 1: if you're if you're a good Catholic, a good Mick
- 8:58Speaker 1: like me, that's the only day you eat hot cross buns. Really, yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I mean you meant to hot grast buns. I suppose. Yeah,
- 9:05Speaker 1: it's good for I think good for. Are we still
- 9:07Speaker 1: in Lent?
- 9:08Speaker 4: This hasn't happened yet, has it. It's got hot cross
- 9:10Speaker 4: bund has been out for so long I just assume
- 9:12Speaker 4: that the season is over.
- 9:13Speaker 1: No, this really should have just started it. And it's
- 9:15Speaker 1: really Margaret Mary God bless her, my beloved mother, my
- 9:20Speaker 1: sainted mum, is probably just going to be like that
- 9:23Speaker 1: nun in the Bluebell and just slap me with a
- 9:25Speaker 1: ruler because I'm not doing right by my Catholic doctrine here.
- 9:28Speaker 1: But I'm pretty sure we're still in Lent, which is
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know, as Ned mentioned this, it's as Wednesday, drap
- 9:34Speaker 1: your gens and confess your ends.
- 9:36Speaker 4: But but you know, for all of the odds that
- 9:38Speaker 4: we would review the Easter episode at Easter.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Time, well, we are now founding members of the Church
- 9:43Speaker 1: of Coincidence. We are indeed, this is this episode is
- 9:48Speaker 1: fucking circles within circles. Man, It's great. I'm really really enjoyed.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I think we're in Lent right now, and I think
- 9:55Speaker 1: Lent ends on Good Rider and that's when you can
- 9:58Speaker 1: have a delay on hot Cross Burn.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Lent is a forty day season of prayer, fastening, aims
- 10:02Speaker 4: giving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown
- 10:05Speaker 4: on Holy Thursday.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Which I think is the day before Good Friday. So
- 10:08Speaker 1: we go here.
- 10:08Speaker 4: So the Lent dates where Fifth of Marches started and
- 10:11Speaker 4: it ends this Thursday. So as this episode's being released,
- 10:13Speaker 4: it's when it ends.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, now, not everyone has to abide by Lent, but
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know, for you know, people who were raising the religion.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I was it's like you got forty days of denying yourself,
- 10:24Speaker 1: just like Jesus did. And you know, when Good Friday
- 10:27Speaker 1: rolls around, it's like, hey, kids, you've been good all
- 10:29Speaker 1: that time. Have a delightful Hot Cross bunt. Whereas now
- 10:32Speaker 1: it's kind of like, Okay, Christmas is over. What can
- 10:35Speaker 1: we sell people at the supermarket buns? Yeah, and now
- 10:38Speaker 1: we're getting varieties of buns, which you know, guy likes variety.
- 10:43Speaker 1: We he had Hot Cross buns being sold at our
- 10:44Speaker 1: local supermarket in twenty twenty four. Oh yeah, but you're
- 10:52Speaker 1: wonder if I'm still eating Cross But yeah, I am
- 10:54Speaker 1: down to my last bag. Cool because the fine folks
- 10:58Speaker 1: at all Only were doing a BENOFFI Hi, He said this, yeah,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and I was like, grab them, grab and grab them,
- 11:04Speaker 1: gotta catch them all.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Did you see there's a Hot Cross bun flavored chocolates,
- 11:07Speaker 4: now Hot Cross bun flavored kit cats.
- 11:09Speaker 1: There is Hot Cross bun flavored fruit. I had McDonald's. Wow,
- 11:14Speaker 1: it was not bad. Yeah, but then I went back around.
- 11:18Speaker 1: He was like, oh, I better stock up on my
- 11:19Speaker 1: beIN off of your flavored buns. Guess what limited they
- 11:22Speaker 1: didn't have anymore? So what about the other eldest store there,
- 11:25Speaker 1: she could have a different one. There's another one's when
- 11:28Speaker 1: I cried, that's I probably should have gone there. But
- 11:31Speaker 1: like on the website, I could do that too. Well.
- 11:34Speaker 1: There's so many options, There's so many things I could
- 11:36Speaker 1: have done other than just bitch. But the upshot is,
- 11:40Speaker 1: speaking of bitch, you know this episode, I've got two
- 11:43Speaker 1: hot gross buns left, and that should take me into
- 11:45Speaker 1: Eastern Eastern yea, because once East is done, don't want
- 11:47Speaker 1: to eat hot crospuns anymore. And then the stand for
- 11:49Speaker 1: Easter eggs.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I've said to nicola'm gon eat one Easter egg
- 11:52Speaker 4: this year, because what happens is we go crazy the
- 11:54Speaker 4: East eggs of the kids and I end up eating them. Yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 4: And it's like other, just little ones, and it's like, oh,
- 11:58Speaker 4: I just have twelve of them, that's fine.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yes, And then you're discovering the wonders of compounding interests. Yeah,
- 12:05Speaker 1: why am I always fatter in May? It's going to
- 12:08Speaker 1: be in May?
- 12:09Speaker 4: Yes, But this episode here, so, as I was mentioning earlier,
- 12:12Speaker 4: plenty of I said plenty of good. There's some good,
- 12:15Speaker 4: there's some bad, and there is some downright confusing, right,
- 12:17Speaker 4: some absolute head scratches in this episode.
- 12:20Speaker 1: But let's start with the good.
- 12:21Speaker 4: I thought there were some decent gags throughout the probably
- 12:23Speaker 4: more probably more so than usual for an episode from
- 12:26Speaker 4: this era, where I went, there's actually a lot of
- 12:29Speaker 4: jokes throughout this that I'm actually really enjoying more so
- 12:32Speaker 4: than usual.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll say that, you know, when they've made this
- 12:35Speaker 1: transition to digital, I guess ort to high Death. Yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 1: it feels fresh, doesn't it. Well, I think they probably
- 12:42Speaker 1: took that, and I could be wrong, as like, it's
- 12:45Speaker 1: a new era for this, It's a new day in Springfield.
- 12:48Speaker 1: You know, let's view it as a creative rebirth as well.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Let's see, I try to get back to first, Prince
- 12:52Speaker 1: was trying to get back to basics, trying to tell
- 12:54Speaker 1: some really good gags, and a lot of these feel like, yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 1: the kind of things that were being thrown at your
- 12:59Speaker 1: thick and in the Golden era, it's like there was
- 13:02Speaker 1: just a random gags for the sake of it, you know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: visual gags or one liners or signs or bits or whatever.
- 13:09Speaker 1: And yeah, there's certainly a fair few in here that
- 13:13Speaker 1: and not all of them work, but some of them do,
- 13:15Speaker 1: so yeah. I think it's one of those signs when
- 13:17Speaker 1: it's like, Okay, you're maybe getting a B a B
- 13:21Speaker 1: minus for execution, but you're certainly getting an apha effort.
- 13:23Speaker 4: And there were certainly gags from the Golden Ear that
- 13:26Speaker 4: don't really stick. But I think we just have this
- 13:27Speaker 4: nostalgic love for them and just go we give them
- 13:29Speaker 4: the pass anyway.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I think so because everything else around them was so good,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and also maybe we hadn't experienced a lot of like
- 13:35Speaker 1: that before.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Yep, yeah, true, and yeah, so I don't want to
- 13:38Speaker 4: get into exactly what it was like because most of
- 13:41Speaker 4: my favorite moments those moments there, so we get that.
- 13:43Speaker 1: A little bit later.
- 13:44Speaker 4: But I do think that Flanders here now. The one
- 13:47Speaker 4: negative of the Flanders character is that for some reason
- 13:50Speaker 4: they keep having him say these really ridiculous forced flanderisms
- 13:55Speaker 4: now where he goes well, as the Worm said to
- 13:57Speaker 4: the player for YEDDI well as this said to this,
- 13:59Speaker 4: and I was like, why does everything have to be
- 14:01Speaker 4: that joke now with Flanders?
- 14:02Speaker 1: And he doesn't.
- 14:03Speaker 4: I think it's three times in this episode he says,
- 14:05Speaker 4: well if something says that, I was like, why does
- 14:07Speaker 4: he have to start preface every comment with that.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I know where you're coming from. Yeah, yeah, very very frustrating.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I also would love to know what the woman actually
- 14:14Speaker 1: said to the spaghetti. But he passes out before he
- 14:17Speaker 1: lets his hang it man.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Disappointing, but I think we've got the best of Flanders here,
- 14:21Speaker 4: a man who, despite his faults, loves his neighbors and
- 14:23Speaker 4: goes out of his way to ensure they aren't thrown
- 14:25Speaker 4: out onto the street, despite the fact that they're just,
- 14:28Speaker 4: as to put it in this episode, Home in particular,
- 14:30Speaker 4: but horrible people.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean. And he's backed up by Marge. Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Is normally his conscience or the voice of reason. Now
- 14:37Speaker 1: not always, but you know, usually the case, or sometimes
- 14:41Speaker 1: you're suffering in silence. But she seems fairly complicit in
- 14:43Speaker 1: like taking advantage of Ned's good nature and his I
- 14:48Speaker 1: guess legal standing as their landlord as well.
- 14:50Speaker 4: I think the only justification I can find for March,
- 14:53Speaker 4: and for the writing of March being this way, is
- 14:55Speaker 4: that they have her going, Oh my god, I've needed
- 14:59Speaker 4: all these things done for so long. You asked me,
- 15:01Speaker 4: you asked me to do it, and he'll just do it.
- 15:03Speaker 4: I don't think she's she's more focused on oh my god,
- 15:05Speaker 4: all these things are finally being done, as opposed to going, oh,
- 15:08Speaker 4: it's actually impacting ed.
- 15:09Speaker 1: We we don't have to live this way. Yeah, I
- 15:12Speaker 1: don't have to live with a dripping tap or something
- 15:13Speaker 1: like that's coming out of the hot now. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 4: So her whole life, she's had a husband who hasn't
- 15:18Speaker 4: been able to fix anything.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Who's been derelict in his duty or just incapable of
- 15:22Speaker 1: doing so. Yeah, so that's the out for Marge meeting
- 15:26Speaker 1: for me. That's a really good point. I will I
- 15:28Speaker 1: will certainly pay that for you and for Marge. Yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 1: because it really is kind of I say, this is
- 15:35Speaker 1: a home mine of myself, and you'd probably agree. There
- 15:36Speaker 1: are times when it's just like this is just the
- 15:38Speaker 1: way that is, you know, or you learn to live
- 15:40Speaker 1: with something. Yeah that tap drips a little bit or whatever.
- 15:43Speaker 1: It's like, you could probably fix it. Oh, I'm not
- 15:47Speaker 1: gonna lie. I feel I forever feel inadequate when I
- 15:50Speaker 1: can't fix it around the house, and Nicholas like I'll
- 15:53Speaker 1: have a look at it, and I'm like, fuck, if
- 15:55Speaker 1: Nichola can do this. Like I got home one day
- 15:57Speaker 1: she was like, can you put the bathroom. I can't.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I can't put a shelf on the fucking war man Like.
- 16:01Speaker 1: It's like I can now, but I couldn't.
- 16:03Speaker 4: I remember this point in time the bathroom rack fell
- 16:06Speaker 4: off and I was like, well, I don't know how to
- 16:07Speaker 4: put this back ups off the YouTube and figure it out.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I'm like, I'll do it when I get home. This
- 16:10Speaker 4: is back when I was working at the old PC.
- 16:14Speaker 4: And I got home and Nicholas, like artist did it.
- 16:16Speaker 4: And I was like, oh, my wife is home with
- 16:19Speaker 4: the kids, looking at the kids.
- 16:20Speaker 1: She's like she'd had enough and she just got she
- 16:22Speaker 1: just did it herself.
- 16:23Speaker 4: And I was like, man, mate, you should be able
- 16:26Speaker 4: to You should be able to do the basic shit
- 16:28Speaker 4: around the house, Like you see a leaky tap, and
- 16:29Speaker 4: I'm like, I should be able to fix this. I
- 16:32Speaker 4: should know how to fix this. Why don't I know
- 16:33Speaker 4: how to fix it? This this laziness and this is
- 16:36Speaker 4: this is not a gender thing either. We're not say
- 16:38Speaker 4: oh men do this and women do that.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I know. It's this is just like being a person.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Nicola is my spouse, Nicolas my partner, so it's just
- 16:43Speaker 4: your partner feels like I have to do all she's
- 16:46Speaker 4: doing all the work. I should be able to do it.
- 16:48Speaker 1: But it's just being a person in the world and
- 16:50Speaker 1: being someone who actually owns not just a property, but
- 16:54Speaker 1: property within the house. Yeah, it's like speaking about this,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you know, when I had the the kitchen tap, it's like, Okay,
- 17:05Speaker 1: something is not quite right and finally just like call
- 17:08Speaker 1: the plumber, fix it up, very very quick. It was
- 17:11Speaker 1: a bruce, like my guy, Nah, this was this was Dave.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Shout out to Dave Hardwick, legitimate friend of the pod,
- 17:17Speaker 1: or at least friend of one half of the pod,
- 17:19Speaker 1: because yeah, I'd be lost with that. Folcus is a
- 17:23Speaker 1: very sort of adult problem or whatever. If you have
- 17:25Speaker 1: like a competent and reliable trades person on standby that
- 17:30Speaker 1: you can call and say, yeah, I can be there
- 17:31Speaker 1: tomorrow or I can be there later this afternoon, you know,
- 17:34Speaker 1: and you know that you're in a Yeah, they're not
- 17:36Speaker 1: going to screw you over and they're going to get
- 17:37Speaker 1: the job done well, which reminds me I need to
- 17:41Speaker 1: pay day's bill. But it just takes such a load
- 17:45Speaker 1: off your shoulders.
- 17:45Speaker 4: It's like, don't look for a plumber, look for a
- 17:47Speaker 4: handy man. Oh, absolutely handy man's are so much better
- 17:50Speaker 4: or be the handy man. Absolutely, but yeah when he
- 17:53Speaker 4: fixed all that, it's.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Like, oh that was easy. Things think, but things just work.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Things can just work. So I can understand exactly where
- 18:02Speaker 1: Marge is coming from. What comes out of the hot
- 18:04Speaker 1: that that's neat. Yeah, oh it's.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Wild because we look at the kitchen for example, I'm
- 18:09Speaker 4: a need more cupboards and Nicholas dad for example, we
- 18:12Speaker 4: were in England right eighteen months ago, maybe two years ago,
- 18:16Speaker 4: and her Mum's like, I love the gazebo at the
- 18:18Speaker 4: back and he just goes to this fucking like their
- 18:21Speaker 4: version of Bunnings, buy some wood and starts building his gazebo.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Oh and they went out one day and he's building
- 18:28Speaker 4: this gazebo and j and he goes, no, it's right,
- 18:29Speaker 4: you just stay inside.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I'm like, ah, he doesn't know what my help. He
- 18:34Speaker 1: knows I'm going to be adding nothing to this. I'm sure. Yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: Look this is like my my brother in law Ross.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I'm sure I've mentioned many times in the past. The
- 18:41Speaker 1: handiest of handyman, Yeah, just can build shit or repair shitt.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Modern day Hercules is a handyman. Yeah. Yeah, And I
- 18:49Speaker 1: mean I've said, you know, how much, so I've sort
- 18:51Speaker 1: of I mean horrible how much I respect him. I
- 18:54Speaker 1: don't think i'd say I mean a ROSSI look mate,
- 18:57Speaker 1: but he said something like, oh, yeah, you do this
- 19:01Speaker 1: and this, and I'm like, you know, talk about movies
- 19:04Speaker 1: or something like that, or you know, great movie reviews
- 19:06Speaker 1: for the local newspapers, like you can set up your
- 19:08Speaker 1: mother's foxtail for her, except I can't. Except that wasn't
- 19:12Speaker 1: my fault. I'm not going to borirol on with the
- 19:15Speaker 1: story of how I went over to try and fix
- 19:17Speaker 1: my mum's foxtel except to TV has still probably got
- 19:20Speaker 1: cathode ray tubes and it's incompatible with the latest one.
- 19:25Speaker 1: What are we talking about Just the fact that Ross
- 19:28Speaker 1: Ross well talking about Ross, but also yeah, just building
- 19:30Speaker 1: stuff or being able to fix stuff and having someone
- 19:33Speaker 1: like that on hand, whether it is it's a good
- 19:35Speaker 1: trait for Flanders to have because he's portrayed as the
- 19:38Speaker 1: I don't want to say, we'll see he kind of
- 19:41Speaker 1: is though, isn't He's portrayed as the guy that you know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: he won't fight, he's religious, he's a very you wouldn't
- 19:46Speaker 1: necessarily think of him as the most masculine character, and
- 19:49Speaker 1: they sort of traditionally masked.
- 19:51Speaker 4: They pull the rug out back in season four when
- 19:53Speaker 4: Marge's doing the plane and takes his shirt and he's
- 19:55Speaker 4: jacked right, so he's ripped, he's hung like a donkey,
- 19:57Speaker 4: and he's a handyman. He's pretty much every Woe's trem
- 20:00Speaker 4: except he's not as well. Well, he's stupid sexy flanners. Yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 4: but at the same time.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Every trait that the woman wants, every trade that a
- 20:08Speaker 1: woman doesn't want, that's a very very good way of
- 20:11Speaker 1: putting it. And for him to be handy in the
- 20:12Speaker 1: way that he is, or combine that with the good
- 20:15Speaker 1: nature of actually wanting to do stuff or having the
- 20:18Speaker 1: mindset it's like, well, you know, I'm their landlord. This
- 20:21Speaker 1: is my property, they're my tenants. It's my responsibility to
- 20:25Speaker 1: fix anything that needs fixing around this place. Unfortunately, there's
- 20:29Speaker 1: going to be times when you had people who say
- 20:31Speaker 1: who will take advantage of that as they do in.
- 20:33Speaker 4: This episode, we had a guy come over recently built
- 20:36Speaker 4: cupboards for our laundry. It gave us some extra storage
- 20:38Speaker 4: space because you can never run out of storage space. Mate,
- 20:40Speaker 4: always storage space is needed in the house and whilst
- 20:44Speaker 4: that was happening, I took the kids of the park
- 20:45Speaker 4: because it was loud and that was getting the way
- 20:47Speaker 4: and a friend of ours brought their kid to the Partlah,
- 20:49Speaker 4: oh were there, and he goes, so you've left your
- 20:51Speaker 4: wife for home with a guy that can build shit.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Nice one. I was like, oh, no, I hope this's
- 20:59Speaker 1: friend of yours is no Jesus, what a thing to say.
- 21:05Speaker 1: It is official.
- 21:06Speaker 4: We have finally launched Bob's Pods, a Bob's Burger's podcast,

- 21:17Speaker 4: everything else that goes into making Bob's Burgers one of
- 21:20Speaker 4: the most loved animated series today. So if you want
- 21:22Speaker 4: to sink your teeth into one of the tastiest podcasts
- 21:24Speaker 4: going around, join the four Finger discam family today at
- 21:27Speaker 4: patreon dot com slash four.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Finger discat good times. But yeah, so that's what I
- 21:34Speaker 1: liked about the episode.
- 21:35Speaker 4: I thought the Flanders, I thought we got the best
- 21:36Speaker 4: version of Flanners here where he was very considerate and
- 21:38Speaker 4: to the but he also broke because that was just
- 21:41Speaker 4: so despicable. They took advantage of his of his generosity,
- 21:44Speaker 4: and he forced even someone as nice as Flanders to
- 21:46Speaker 4: eventually retaliate and force them or victim at the house.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was fully justified in doing so, wholly deserved.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Absolutely and not just that they slammed it his good
- 21:55Speaker 1: name by you know, going to the news. Yeah, it
- 21:58Speaker 1: was just they do this a lot.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Moden Simpson's just over the top negativity and horrible natured characters.
- 22:05Speaker 4: So I've just got this is what leads him to
- 22:07Speaker 4: the worst. I just think for the most part, Homer
- 22:08Speaker 4: was despicable in this and to all this extent Marge,
- 22:11Speaker 4: which we've already discussed, Homer uses all the family savings
- 22:14Speaker 4: again for something that is pointless, right in the grand
- 22:18Speaker 4: scheme of things, a party for himself at Marti Gras party,
- 22:21Speaker 4: and gets his family thrown out of his own their
- 22:23Speaker 4: house onto the street flanners that comes to their rescue,
- 22:27Speaker 4: and then he starts demanding they both start demanding he
- 22:29Speaker 4: fixed their house because they'd have the landlord.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It's just that just horrible people. They're just and I'm
- 22:34Speaker 1: not just going.
- 22:35Speaker 4: So He's doing all this nice stuff and then all
- 22:38Speaker 4: of a sudden they're doing the expos a and they're
- 22:41Speaker 4: yelling at him and because he might come over it
- 22:42Speaker 4: in the middle of the night to fix the gas.
- 22:44Speaker 4: And I don't know about half of this episode, I went,
- 22:48Speaker 4: why are we doing this? Why we started out okay,
- 22:51Speaker 4: and then now you've just gone back.
- 22:52Speaker 1: To real jerk ass Homer again. Yeah, and you don't
- 22:55Speaker 1: really understand the endgame of it in terms of the
- 22:57Speaker 1: I mean, like, well, the whole episode is pointless. Really
- 23:00Speaker 1: of it is, isn't it. Yeah. I did introduce us
- 23:03Speaker 1: to other neighbors that the Simpsons head. I don't think
- 23:05Speaker 1: I've ever really sort of been canned with them.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's just I don't really get the point
- 23:09Speaker 4: of that as well. All the neighbors hate them. It's like,
- 23:10Speaker 4: I hate this neighborhood and I'm like, well then move,
- 23:12Speaker 4: then move. Yeah, you're the problem here. But again, we
- 23:17Speaker 4: have Homer, and as you said lesser extent March, we
- 23:19Speaker 4: have Homer being a dick, being horrible, blowing his family
- 23:23Speaker 4: savings and then having no repercussions for it in the
- 23:26Speaker 4: end because in the end, Fanners goes, you know what,
- 23:29Speaker 4: I love these guys, and I'm gonna let them come
- 23:31Speaker 4: back into the house. And I'm thinking, why, I get
- 23:34Speaker 4: that you're a lovely person, but that's your way of
- 23:36Speaker 4: writing them, writing stuff out of this hole that you've
- 23:38Speaker 4: created for the family, like they're in a homeless shop.
- 23:40Speaker 4: I felt so sorry for Button Lisa in this because
- 23:41Speaker 4: they were just victims of their father's behavior.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Here.
- 23:45Speaker 4: There's one point in the episode where they're living in
- 23:47Speaker 4: a homeless shelter, laying on beds and Homers and and
- 23:50Speaker 4: Lisa says, this is the lowest this family's ever sunk.
- 23:53Speaker 4: And I'm going, this may be the lowest show has
- 23:55Speaker 4: to suck.
- 23:55Speaker 1: That's a really good point. Yeah, I mean, the family
- 23:57Speaker 1: are living in a homeless shop because of Homer's fucking selfishness.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I was like, this is just horrible. Yeah. And even
- 24:04Speaker 1: the handful of tiny nice gestures that the Simpsons do
- 24:09Speaker 1: towards Flanders in terms of like, oh, you know, we
- 24:12Speaker 1: let them a note, or you know, we took a
- 24:14Speaker 1: last picture and well we put up a sign that
- 24:16Speaker 1: initially said screw you Flanders and said bless you need
- 24:19Speaker 1: or something like that. Yeah, none of it really compensates
- 24:23Speaker 1: or makes up all the bad shit that they did.
- 24:27Speaker 4: They try to have the out of home and going
- 24:29Speaker 4: We're gonna treat you nice now, Flanners, but you just
- 24:31Speaker 4: know next week is go back to the status square.
- 24:32Speaker 4: You can't just at the end go I love you, Flanders,
- 24:34Speaker 4: We're gonna be great friends, because you just know it's
- 24:36Speaker 4: not gonna happen again next week.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, it's pretty much the textbook case of abusive relationship.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Well, I think by twenty two, by season twenty, the
- 24:45Speaker 4: Simpsons writers have kind of lost the trust of the
- 24:48Speaker 4: viewers where we don't actually believe anything that they do anything,
- 24:52Speaker 4: They don't follow through with anything they set up things.
- 24:54Speaker 4: For example, I know I always go back to this,
- 24:56Speaker 4: but it's just the example that always pops into my
- 24:58Speaker 4: mind because we get Nelson's mum in this kissing mo
- 25:01Speaker 4: but Nelson's dad returned a couple of seasons ago and
- 25:04Speaker 4: then we just never saw him again and that story
- 25:06Speaker 4: was just completely thrown out. We had and they go, well,
- 25:08Speaker 4: every episode lives in a capture. I'm like, that's fine,
- 25:11Speaker 4: but that was an arc for the Nelson character, and
- 25:15Speaker 4: you've just thrown out and said why should we Why
- 25:17Speaker 4: should we as viewers commit or buy into any storyline
- 25:21Speaker 4: that you're doing now, especially when it ends with Homer
- 25:24Speaker 4: saying I'm gonna love you going forward. Flanns is gonna
- 25:26Speaker 4: be the best neighbor ever. Is the joke's supposed to be, well,
- 25:28Speaker 4: we know who you won't.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just it's lazy. It feels kind of all
- 25:35Speaker 1: or nothing to say you've got to go all in
- 25:37Speaker 1: on the continuity or just make every episode not necessarily
- 25:40Speaker 1: a bottle episode.
- 25:41Speaker 4: But its own kind of reality. Yeah, you have to
- 25:43Speaker 4: do that, but it's I don't know, choose a lane
- 25:48Speaker 4: for me though. It just makes this ending feel a
- 25:51Speaker 4: bit of a cop out when you go, oh, they've
- 25:53Speaker 4: been despicable this whole episode and now Flanns just gonna
- 25:55Speaker 4: have them back, and they're going yep, well we love
- 25:57Speaker 4: you forever, Flanners, and like.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's just lazy. I'm not buying it. They
- 26:01Speaker 1: don't deserve to get back into the house, absolutely not.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Marge as well, well, that's it not to say, oh,
- 26:07Speaker 1: this is the way they would have done it back
- 26:09Speaker 1: in the day, but yeah, usually there'd be some kind
- 26:12Speaker 1: of moral lesson and it wouldn't be beaten over their
- 26:15Speaker 1: head in a South park. You know, I learned something
- 26:17Speaker 1: to that kind of way. But you know, I think
- 26:19Speaker 1: traditionally the show would say actions have consequences, or the
- 26:23Speaker 1: things you do have repercussions, and you know, sometimes you're
- 26:25Speaker 1: gonna have to reckon with that. Sometimes you're gonna have
- 26:27Speaker 1: to deal with that. It doesn't seem to be the
- 26:29Speaker 1: case in this and certainly in something as large as
- 26:33Speaker 1: losing your house having to move into a homeless shelter,
- 26:36Speaker 1: because you know, these are big issues, and yeah, for
- 26:39Speaker 1: them to treat it as frivolously as they do in
- 26:42Speaker 1: this episode, it's like it's all in good fun. It's
- 26:45Speaker 1: like it is. But I'm going back to the analogy
- 26:48Speaker 1: of just like you've built a shitty house on poor
- 26:50Speaker 1: foundations and you've tried to, you know, decorate it with
- 26:53Speaker 1: a couple of good gags. You'll feel it just us
- 26:56Speaker 1: as your handyman. Yeah, yeah, and you're expecting us to
- 26:59Speaker 1: do a lot of be lifting in a lot of maintenance,
- 27:01Speaker 1: which you know we're not're not capable of. I think
- 27:06Speaker 1: they didn't they left it too late for the family
- 27:10Speaker 1: to be kicked out and put to the homeless shutter.
- 27:11Speaker 1: There'd be more time focused on them suffering and having
- 27:15Speaker 1: to go through Yeah, and then realize, holy shit, this
- 27:18Speaker 1: we've brought on ourselves. We fucked up.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and have Homer has to utter the words I'm
- 27:23Speaker 4: sorry to Flanders. It can't just be Flanders. So he
- 27:27Speaker 4: kicks them out. Like one scene later, he's going and
- 27:29Speaker 4: sees the photo and goes, I love those guys. I'm
- 27:32Speaker 4: having them back.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Absolutely, there was nothing to justify that decision besides the
- 27:35Speaker 1: fact that Flanders is nice. Yeah. The owners is on
- 27:37Speaker 1: Flanders to sort of do the right thing. No, I
- 27:39Speaker 1: mean they never they never acknowledged I did anything wrong. Yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 1: we're going to recap the episode anyway. But okay, first
- 27:44Speaker 1: of all, Homer terrible financial mismanagement on his part. Man,
- 27:48Speaker 1: We've all been there, Okay, takes advantage of the good
- 27:50Speaker 1: nature of his good neighbor who does him a real
- 27:55Speaker 1: solid Also bad gets worse when oh, he's we can't
- 28:00Speaker 1: take advantage of them. Fine, we're gonna manipulate Yeah, we're
- 28:03Speaker 1: gonna manipulate him, or we're gonna ruin his good name,
- 28:06Speaker 1: gets worse, gets worse, gets worse. One of these you
- 28:08Speaker 1: should apologize for three of them. Come on, man, So
- 28:14Speaker 1: I don't want to sound like flanners and like, do
- 28:16Speaker 1: the right thing. But The Simpsons at its best is
- 28:20Speaker 1: not necessarily providing with a guide to life. But it's
- 28:23Speaker 1: you know, saying, be a good person in the world.
- 28:25Speaker 1: You know, we'll tell you a few jokes. But also,
- 28:27Speaker 1: you know, this is a family just trying to get by,
- 28:29Speaker 1: and sometimes they do the right thing, sometimes they do
- 28:31Speaker 1: the wrong thing. When they do the wrong thing, they
- 28:33Speaker 1: usually like, oh, we messed up or his here, here's
- 28:35Speaker 1: how we can make amends for that. There's none of
- 28:37Speaker 1: that here.
- 28:38Speaker 4: It's hard to watch the season twenty episode and sort
- 28:40Speaker 4: of work out what the message is for this episode.
- 28:42Speaker 4: It feels like a lot of that we say Golden
- 28:44Speaker 4: ear episodes that had a message or there was a theme,
- 28:47Speaker 4: or there was something to learn from it. You know,
- 28:48Speaker 4: don't don't do what Home is doing, because there was
- 28:51Speaker 4: always repercussions in the Golden Era and you'd go, oh,
- 28:53Speaker 4: don't do it, because look what happened in the end.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Now it's just don't worry. Keep being a dick, keep
- 28:57Speaker 4: being horrible, because make sure you take advantage of someone
- 29:00Speaker 4: who's such a sap that they will continue to allow
- 29:02Speaker 4: you to step over them.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Yeah, this doesn't it didn't necessarily have to be a
- 29:05Speaker 1: quite unquote very special episode where the Simpsons are homeless
- 29:09Speaker 1: or the Simpsons are dealing with an unhoused situation or
- 29:11Speaker 1: something like that. Yeah, it still has to have that
- 29:15Speaker 1: moral center, something something, something, There's something, Hey my favorite.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Give me some favorite moments, please, some favorite moments. What
- 29:26Speaker 1: did I enjoy? I know you mentioned ned. You know
- 29:30Speaker 1: you're not a fan of his wordplay, but I did
- 29:32Speaker 1: enjoy and I mentioned it earlier. And the clock ticks
- 29:34Speaker 1: over it the Mardi Gras. I believe they call it
- 29:38Speaker 1: fat Tuesday in Tuesday in New Orleans, but the clocktics
- 29:41Speaker 1: over to ash Wednesday. Its stun to set down here,
- 29:43Speaker 1: gens and confess your sins. I know, I thought that
- 29:45Speaker 1: was funny, but I'm a suck of a good wordplay.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And speaking of one line, I did actually sympathize with
- 29:52Speaker 1: the home but with one thing. When he was talking
- 29:53Speaker 1: with Gil, the mortgage broker, I'm glad that Gill sort
- 29:56Speaker 1: of land on his feet. But he's talking about how
- 30:00Speaker 1: he owes all his money now and basically, this isn't
- 30:04Speaker 1: the future, it's the lousies thinking now. I thought that
- 30:06Speaker 1: was a really good line and really well delivered by Dan.
- 30:09Speaker 1: A lot of us have been there. Yeah, absolutely pay
- 30:13Speaker 1: back money now. I like the auctioneer guy who's like,
- 30:18Speaker 1: please hand me your paddles in like an orderly fashion.
- 30:20Speaker 1: What is this random hand in your paddle down? Just
- 30:24Speaker 1: little things like that. And Homer's ice cream story I
- 30:27Speaker 1: thought was very funny. Yeah, because as someone who, as
- 30:30Speaker 1: listeners of this show will realize, is prone to long,
- 30:32Speaker 1: banal stories that go nowhere. Yeah, this is a good
- 30:36Speaker 1: look joke being explaining where they're just being. And then
- 30:39Speaker 1: I said thank you very much, Like, yeah, Dad, we
- 30:41Speaker 1: were there. Yeah, this is the time looking to be
- 30:45Speaker 1: like you told that story last week, or it's like
- 30:48Speaker 1: does this one point here he goes again, which is
- 30:53Speaker 1: a joke under itself because I say, this is always
- 30:55Speaker 1: death all the dame.
- 30:56Speaker 4: So my first favorite moment was one where they actually,
- 31:00Speaker 4: I can't work if they want us to like him
- 31:01Speaker 4: or not.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Like Homer.
- 31:02Speaker 4: So when he says I've left the surprise for the
- 31:04Speaker 4: new homeowner and you just assume it's a turd.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Yes, he's up the stairs. I was going to be gross.
- 31:09Speaker 4: It's like, no, he's left the flowers saying please love
- 31:11Speaker 4: our home as much as we did, and I'm like,
- 31:14Speaker 4: he's horrible, but then he's love, look, what are you
- 31:17Speaker 4: trying to do to me? It's an abusive relationship. Like
- 31:20Speaker 4: you said, I'm getting whip lest Yeah, like he's a
- 31:23Speaker 4: nice person, but he's not a nice person.
- 31:24Speaker 1: What to be doing.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Also loved Flanners saying, let me get my tools and
- 31:27Speaker 4: they're already in the Simpsons house. That feels like classic
- 31:31Speaker 4: Simpsons and the final one where it just you know,
- 31:34Speaker 4: it's just happens.
- 31:35Speaker 1: It's sort of glides by it. But Planners is nailing
- 31:38Speaker 1: something to.
- 31:38Speaker 4: The doors the eviction notice and this is maybe it's species,
- 31:40Speaker 4: and he goes, oh, that's gross, and then that's it
- 31:44Speaker 4: just sort of moves and I was like, that's a
- 31:45Speaker 4: good gad.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Next question you there eating the beast, all right?
- 31:52Speaker 4: My first question for you is Homer asked Bart to
- 31:55Speaker 4: go get some records. They believe they are what they
- 31:58Speaker 4: called the genre of musicals is called zydigodik. That's great zydigo,
- 32:02Speaker 4: which I've got my notes what zydigo is. Well, we
- 32:04Speaker 4: get to that, but how many boxes of them were there?
- 32:07Speaker 1: Here's the thing, because he he says like there are
- 32:08Speaker 1: like twelve more yeah, but he's bringing four so sixteen
- 32:12Speaker 1: h wife for twelve. Maybe you're right. More so, yes,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you tried to drink me. Quimby says he is at
- 32:20Speaker 1: a fake trade seminar in which city when he gets
- 32:23Speaker 1: a call from missus school. I could look up my notes,
- 32:25Speaker 1: but I won't. Ah, if you're diligent enough to take
- 32:29Speaker 1: notes about this guy and thing, look them up.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Okay, then, so Mary Quinby says, pretend that you add
- 32:34Speaker 4: a party in Zurich. In Zurich, that's right, there was
- 32:37Speaker 4: that memory In German they do which.
- 32:39Speaker 1: As someone who likes to put on a German accent
- 32:41Speaker 1: every once in a while for comic effect, I found
- 32:43Speaker 1: quite funny. Well, he thinks it's comedy effect. My girlfriend
- 32:48Speaker 1: says it's cool. Yes, mister Davis, you have a girlfriend. Louis,
- 32:56Speaker 1: the lovely Luis loves my German accent. Your next question, Oh,
- 33:00Speaker 1: I have a new question. Okay, I don't actually have
- 33:02Speaker 1: a new question, but I will find one for you
- 33:04Speaker 1: right now. All right, then I'll do one more and
- 33:05Speaker 1: then we can move on, or you do you do
- 33:06Speaker 1: my WI find on my next one? Oh? Okay, what
- 33:09Speaker 1: is the name of the mortgage and Okay, let's move on.
- 33:14Speaker 4: I'll find one more question for you. So how much
- 33:18Speaker 4: does Burns offer for the house and what does you
- 33:21Speaker 4: want to.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Use it for? I know that he offers a hundred thousand, right, yes,
- 33:25Speaker 1: to store what?
- 33:26Speaker 2: Oh?
- 33:28Speaker 1: Cufflings? Oh that's right, yeah, yes, yes, cuflings. Indeed, do
- 33:32Speaker 1: you have many cuplinks? Do you have any couplings?
- 33:34Speaker 4: I've got piggy cuflings that at least it has been
- 33:36Speaker 4: the wedding that's novelty ones that's used to be the
- 33:39Speaker 4: gift that you know you would get your wedding day. Yeah, yeah,
- 33:43Speaker 4: I've got a few sets. Do you ever wear them
- 33:45Speaker 4: on the occasions that I wear shirts with cuffs, which
- 33:48Speaker 4: is not that often? All right, let's get into some stonecutters,
- 33:51Speaker 4: shall we?
- 33:51Speaker 1: Or you bet they do.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Indeed, of course you love the KDG with her one
- 34:04Speaker 4: hundreds support. She does support us here at fourthing a discount,
- 34:07Speaker 4: and thank you so much for your support.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Keng Katie. I'm just picturing you with like a chair
- 34:11Speaker 1: and a whip keeping the wolf from the door. Indeed,
- 34:15Speaker 1: this is how I picture you, and we might actually
- 34:17Speaker 1: commission like some comical artist to actually draw you this way.
- 34:21Speaker 1: In a very heroic fashion. Without KTG, we would be
- 34:23Speaker 1: Homer in this episode, or we might just get Ai
- 34:26Speaker 1: to do it because we need one hundred dollars for ourselves.
- 34:31Speaker 4: But Justin Parker, Shanny Macker, Elliott, j O'Neill is a
- 34:35Speaker 4: Bella Murphy, Rah Beasley, Stephen Roberts, Shawn d v, Pete Anderson,
- 34:39Speaker 4: Timothy Burlson, Andrew Davis, Kevin Dental, Planned flood Ballo Winter Bank,
- 34:42Speaker 4: Jack McFadden, Heath. That will be Adrian McLeod, March, Eleven
- 34:45Speaker 4: Ginger and Pickle Preston Murray, to Lee and Enriquez, Declan Phoenix,
- 34:48Speaker 4: Brian McCoy, Logan b James Shepherd, Joe Ridden, Sect, Dave
- 34:52Speaker 4: prezls McNally, Dami Miller, Charlie Joe and Gavin Lang. Thank
- 34:55Speaker 4: you so much for being Stonecutter supporters here at four
- 34:57Speaker 4: finger Discount.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Holy moly, if I could use a comic book analogy,
- 35:01Speaker 1: who do you think is the leader of the Avenger?
- 35:02Speaker 1: Would you say it's Tony Stark or Captain America.
- 35:05Speaker 4: I'm gonna say, my little knowledge of superheroes, I'm going
- 35:09Speaker 4: to say it is a black widow.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Okay, let's view Katie g as like the head hero
- 35:15Speaker 1: of the Avenge, but a whole bunch of superheroes names
- 35:18Speaker 1: you just read that We admire, adore, and appreciate every
- 35:23Speaker 1: single one of them. Thanks so much, guys, We really,
- 35:26Speaker 1: as we always say, you keep the lights on your
- 35:29Speaker 1: number one in our cool book goes. Indeed, Yes.
- 35:32Speaker 4: So this episode originally aired March eighth, two thousand and nine.
- 35:34Speaker 4: The top three films at the US box office at
- 35:36Speaker 4: this time March two thousand and nine. Mister Davis, what
- 35:39Speaker 4: do you think? First clue for number one is a
- 35:42Speaker 4: comic book adaptation?
- 35:44Speaker 1: Okay? Then, oh this is interesting because I wonder if
- 35:48Speaker 1: it's Marvel because we've entered the MCU phase because we've
- 35:52Speaker 1: got an MCU film. It's not. Okay, then it's more
- 35:55Speaker 1: of a graphic novel adaptation. Okay, is it sin City?
- 35:59Speaker 1: It's Watchmen's Watchmen. Oh okay, then Watchmen was number one
- 36:02Speaker 1: at the US box office. Sweeny, this episode originally air.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Not a bad movie. So the second one is Maday
- 36:07Speaker 1: Goes to Jail madea madea Goes. I've never heard of
- 36:10Speaker 1: this film. Are you aware of someone named Tyler Perry? Yeah,
- 36:13Speaker 1: he's got this character Maday where he basically dresses in
- 36:15Speaker 1: Dragon made Madeia is basically funky Grandmother be tripping was
- 36:18Speaker 1: exactly or by the way, I did the wide version,
- 36:24Speaker 1: fancy Grandmother be tripping or Martin Lawrence in Big Mama's House. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:31Speaker 1: but yeah, Madeia is yeah a character and a lot
- 36:34Speaker 1: of a lot of his films, and yeah, these films
- 36:36Speaker 1: do very every well. And the third film has a
- 36:39Speaker 1: particular set of skills. Oh but which take it a
- 36:41Speaker 1: week up to? Is this? Is it still first taken?
- 36:44Speaker 1: But the first taken? Yeah? Oh okay, then cool? Yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 1: Taken number one was third box offic Sweendon this episode
- 36:49Speaker 1: originally aired. I asked I say this because I remember
- 36:53Speaker 1: seeing Taken two and there is a scene in it
- 36:56Speaker 1: where Liam Neeson literally counts his money kind of like
- 37:01Speaker 1: not see what kind of movie we're doing here? Yeah,
- 37:03Speaker 1: and taking three? You just watched this going how many
- 37:06Speaker 1: are we doing to see Liam isn't getting over fits?
- 37:09Speaker 1: The answer is twenty seven.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Yes, I will take twenty I would take a million
- 37:13Speaker 4: taking films. But he basically basically made plenty of taking films.
- 37:16Speaker 4: She didn't call them taken very much, so he keeps
- 37:18Speaker 4: coming down to Australia to make him. He was here
- 37:20Speaker 4: recently in.
- 37:22Speaker 1: It's like that's yea three hundred kilometers from our house.
- 37:26Speaker 1: But he was filming like an action movie up around Melbourne,
- 37:28Speaker 1: around this area. There's a film that he I think
- 37:31Speaker 1: it's called a black Light maybe or something. I'll watching
- 37:33Speaker 1: the movie and I'm like, that's the fucking that's the casino,
- 37:35Speaker 1: that's the This isn't America. They haven't changed the street
- 37:40Speaker 1: sides or anything. Oh yeah, he's made like three or
- 37:42Speaker 1: four And in Victoria I did walked to the foota
- 37:45Speaker 1: to see him. Leam Neesan. It's like, you know dark Man, yeah.
- 37:51Speaker 4: Good Man, all right, so yeah as episode was written
- 37:54Speaker 4: by Jeff Westbrook, directed by Mark Kirkland guess ub Maurice
- 37:57Speaker 4: LaMarsh As it says here on Wikipedia as additional voices,
- 38:01Speaker 4: who do you think, maurus La marsh I reckon because
- 38:04Speaker 4: the auctioneer sounded like Hank.
- 38:06Speaker 1: I think some of the neighbors perhaps, like maybe some
- 38:09Speaker 1: of the neighbors you've got. You've got a collection of
- 38:11Speaker 1: voices at the end of the various neighbors saying oh
- 38:13Speaker 1: this neighborhood sucks, move away, blah blah blah, he could
- 38:16Speaker 1: have been the in the Homeless Shelter, one of those people.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's right. Who knows? He could have been
- 38:21Speaker 1: doing a German accent during the Mardi Grapt.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Maurus Lamash is definitely one of the go to guys
- 38:25Speaker 4: when it comes to we just needed someone to do
- 38:27Speaker 4: some voice, let's get maurus La Marsh also one of
- 38:29Speaker 4: the goat guys. You might say, yeah, indeed, yeah, marus
- 38:31Speaker 4: La Marsh, absolute legend.
- 38:33Speaker 1: You don't know. He's the voice of Brain from Pinky
- 38:35Speaker 1: and the Brain. I now I know that.
- 38:37Speaker 4: If you're a crash baniky fan is a voice of Enbryo.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Elliot's big fan of Fresh Bandic at the moment, Do you.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Want to name some more things that he's done? Not really? Hey,
- 38:46Speaker 1: can I can I add in some of my two
- 38:50Speaker 1: cents two cents? It's mar two heads. We've had a
- 38:52Speaker 1: couple of cent in.
- 38:53Speaker 4: We're gonna be starting on next week's show, next or
- 38:55Speaker 4: the next review we do my two cents. We might
- 38:57Speaker 4: even doing the community podcast next week, the return of
- 39:00Speaker 4: My two cents. So if you've got a story where
- 39:02Speaker 4: you've gone out of your way done something very outlandish
- 39:05Speaker 4: to save money, send it through either mail bag at
- 39:08Speaker 4: forfing a discount dot com a you or send us
- 39:10Speaker 4: a voicemail via the Corey hotline on our website. Just
- 39:13Speaker 4: go to the forthing a diiscant dot com go to
- 39:15Speaker 4: the Corey hotline there, or you can just send us
- 39:17Speaker 4: a message on the Patreon group of you're a patron
- 39:19Speaker 4: as well?
- 39:19Speaker 1: Yes, are you like Guy Davis and have traveled? Uh?
- 39:22Speaker 1: You know, maybe eight extra blocks to get two cents
- 39:25Speaker 1: off your price of your petrol? That's me spend more
- 39:29Speaker 1: money to get there the Mott Saint mathon as they say.
- 39:32Speaker 1: But the title of this is no Loan Again Naturally.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Do you know what this is derived from? Tell me well,
- 39:37Speaker 1: there's a song from the seventies called Alone Again Naturally
- 39:41Speaker 1: by an Irish singer song on a named Gilbert O'Sullivan.
- 39:44Speaker 1: I get the feeling you made that name up. Sounds
- 39:46Speaker 1: like it sounds like a legit name, Gilbert O'Sullivan. I'd
- 39:50Speaker 1: buy that, Okay, then particularly's Irish. But this is kind
- 39:53Speaker 1: of the second time that The Simpsons has used that
- 39:56Speaker 1: song title and yeah repurposed because they had also so
- 40:00Speaker 1: alone Again natural didly? Yeah?
- 40:02Speaker 4: When Moud kicked the bucket that's correct. Yeah, yeah, that
- 40:05Speaker 4: was a good episode, this one. We actually really liked
- 40:08Speaker 4: that episode, didn't we.
- 40:08Speaker 1: We did.
- 40:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and that was also about Flanders again. Yeah with
- 40:13Speaker 4: this episode here, like it's just I don't know, let's
- 40:16Speaker 4: talk about let's get.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Into it, shall we.
- 40:19Speaker 4: So that the chopboard gag was that it says I
- 40:22Speaker 4: will not have fun with educational toys. And the couch
- 40:25Speaker 4: gag another extended one. Yes, yeah, just trying to pad
- 40:27Speaker 4: some time out and the Simpsons bury their couch because
- 40:29Speaker 4: it's absolutely had it, and they go to a ranch
- 40:32Speaker 4: to get a new couch, which is essentially a cow
- 40:34Speaker 4: and a backtime off of its back, causing him to
- 40:36Speaker 4: be seen in a full body cast when they're inside
- 40:38Speaker 4: the house.
- 40:38Speaker 1: And yeah, that is the couch gag. Couch gag may
- 40:43Speaker 1: not be actual gag.
- 40:45Speaker 4: The episode kicks off with Homer setting up for the
- 40:48Speaker 4: Mardi Gras party, singing.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Oh, Marty bra Oh, Marty braty a lot of boobies.
- 40:56Speaker 4: But he asked, but where his Ziety Cood records are?
- 40:59Speaker 4: Which is as you mentioned it earlier, So I've got
- 41:01Speaker 4: Here's a genre of music and dance that originated in
- 41:03Speaker 4: Southwestern Louisiana combining. I can't pronounce his Creole Creole Creole
- 41:09Speaker 4: Casun blues and rhythm and blues influences. So it's yes,
- 41:12Speaker 4: it's very music. You play at Mardi Gras very much
- 41:14Speaker 4: So Orleans.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, I can't confess to being a expert on zartiko.
- 41:20Speaker 1: I will say that you maybe should track down Professor
- 41:23Speaker 1: long Hair. He's one of the premier artists of Zartiico
- 41:27Speaker 1: just a cool Ghendre name xatical exarticol sounds like a
- 41:31Speaker 1: medical drug. Oh yeah, I've never been to New Orleans.
- 41:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind going, although here it's like commercialized to
- 41:37Speaker 1: Helen back, but I just like the way they taught
- 41:40Speaker 1: that in New Orleans with that kind of thing. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:42Speaker 1: I think that's I just want to hear that, like
- 41:44Speaker 1: for real, I think that'd be fantasm.
- 41:46Speaker 4: I'm just thinking Zytiko would also be. I'm visioning like
- 41:49Speaker 4: it's nineteen ninety seven. It's a new Sicklem's just been
- 41:51Speaker 4: launched as some production company. Zeti cool. What's your go
- 41:57Speaker 4: to one? I know if us is it before in
- 41:59Speaker 4: the past? What's your go to production company? When do
- 42:02Speaker 4: you think of the end of an episode.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Oh, it's either Stephen J. Cannell ripping the piece of
- 42:08Speaker 1: paper out of his typewriter, Okay, or yeah, good dog,
- 42:13Speaker 1: yeah yeah from Yeah Gary David Goldberg created Family Ties.
- 42:16Speaker 1: He did, indeed. Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 4: But so he's asked Bart for the records, but says
- 42:19Speaker 4: there are twelve boxes of them. He's already got four
- 42:21Speaker 4: in his hands. Must be six days, he said. They
- 42:23Speaker 4: all sound the same. Behama points out that the Simpsons
- 42:25Speaker 4: Mardi Gras party has been in tradition since two days
- 42:28Speaker 4: before he was born. Scott, this is just a classic
- 42:31Speaker 4: case of needing to forget the past, since homosphobia probably
- 42:35Speaker 4: couldn't exist if he's throwing Mardi gra up. I do
- 42:37Speaker 4: not know gain lesbian Mardi Gras, but Homer wouldn't be
- 42:40Speaker 4: into any of this flamboyant kind of shit. The version
- 42:43Speaker 4: of Hamit from that episode wouldn't exist.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I think. I think it's very important at this stage
- 42:47Speaker 1: Yere to distinguish between the New Orleans Marty Gras and
- 42:50Speaker 1: the games the Galles Win Marti Gras, which I think
- 42:53Speaker 1: just really sort of borrowed the name. I wouldn't say
- 42:56Speaker 1: that Marti Gras is necessarily synonymous it's just flamboyt lgbtqiyah
- 43:01Speaker 1: plus forgive me Sydney. Sidney took that concept and made
- 43:04Speaker 1: it about that. Yeah, but if you go to a
- 43:07Speaker 1: New Orleans Marti Gar, it's basically about drinking beads and
- 43:10Speaker 1: women lifting up their shirts and exposing their breasts in
- 43:13Speaker 1: exchange for beads.

- 43:46Speaker 4: are now building the float themed as asked for, Superjet
- 43:50Speaker 4: Dinosaur Fun Monkeys per Hormise request, and Marge is concerned
- 43:53Speaker 4: that the party is getting out of hand because each
- 43:54Speaker 4: year it's getting bigger and bigger and spending more and
- 43:56Speaker 4: more money. Carl just randomly rives and says that, but
- 44:00Speaker 4: he wants to invite his distant relatives, the ones that
- 44:01Speaker 4: he only sees when they come to this party. He says,
- 44:04Speaker 4: they act like they don't like America, but really there's
- 44:06Speaker 4: the hate Americans. Marge is annoyed by this, and she
- 44:09Speaker 4: tells Homer, you need to or he tells her you
- 44:10Speaker 4: need to lighten up, because even Grandpa doesn't enjoying himself.
- 44:13Speaker 4: And it gets random cut to him being carried in
- 44:15Speaker 4: a coffin whilst the band plays the second line, so
- 44:17Speaker 4: he wakes up and just joins him playing.
- 44:19Speaker 1: That's that's a very New Orleans tradition of jazz musicians
- 44:22Speaker 1: will sort of bid farewell to one of their own
- 44:24Speaker 1: by doing what's called a second line, which is essentially
- 44:27Speaker 1: you're playing music as you walk along in a funeral procession. Yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 1: I guess it kind of fits here. It fits but
- 44:33Speaker 1: the same very randomly it fits. But it's also piller.
- 44:39Speaker 1: So mag Quimby officially opens the party. So what is
- 44:43Speaker 1: what is his? Has fun? Right? I think?
- 44:45Speaker 3: So?
- 44:45Speaker 1: Yeah, which it must have been. I thought it was fun,
- 44:48Speaker 1: except his wife then called.
- 44:49Speaker 4: So we asked everybody to pretend this is a trade
- 44:51Speaker 4: seminar in Zurich, and they all murmur and German and whatnot.
- 44:54Speaker 4: He says, it's four am. He can't really talk right now.
- 44:56Speaker 4: There's revealed that she's next to him, and I've just
- 44:57Speaker 4: got them.
- 44:58Speaker 1: What does she call him? Yeah? Why was she called
- 45:02Speaker 1: these photos? You're standing next to him. I don't know,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Marge reminds Home. Oh, she asked him, have you invited Flanners?
- 45:10Speaker 4: If you haven't, can you please do so. Flanners is
- 45:12Speaker 4: busy gardening on the other side of his fence in
- 45:14Speaker 4: his backyard. These things are being thrown over the fence,
- 45:16Speaker 4: and this is where he says, as the worm said
- 45:17Speaker 4: to the platelists. We get in and he gets hit
- 45:19Speaker 4: in the head, so it's actually finished that sentence. Homer says,
- 45:23Speaker 4: I will invite him and he has to wear the
- 45:24Speaker 4: outfit that Homer chooses, which is wonder Woman.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Correct.
- 45:28Speaker 4: Homer then leans through the fence. Will pokes his head
- 45:29Speaker 4: through the fence and invites him. Begrudgingly. He says, if
- 45:31Speaker 4: you don't want to come, but you don't look like
- 45:32Speaker 4: you want to, but you can come if you want to.
- 45:34Speaker 4: He agrees, and then we get Nelson's mum and Moe
- 45:36Speaker 4: making out through the fence manly because she thinks he's
- 45:39Speaker 4: a talking dog. Again, just randomness.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I don't get. I understand filler, But if the filler
- 45:46Speaker 1: isn't funny, then why bother then it's just filler you
- 45:50Speaker 1: couldn't think of. It's not killer.
- 45:52Speaker 4: You couldn't think of like one extra like Zinger between
- 45:53Speaker 4: Homer and Flanners have pad at that time.
- 45:55Speaker 1: What is the point of this? Honestly, it's funny enough
- 45:59Speaker 1: seeing Mo and Nelson's mum make out with their heads
- 46:03Speaker 1: through a fence. You don't need the gag, Or no,
- 46:06Speaker 1: you don't, that's it's just a nice little bit of
- 46:09Speaker 1: sort of visual.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Graffiti on the side or visual flourish, or you can
- 46:13Speaker 4: at least have Mo lie about somebody being somebody else,
- 46:16Speaker 4: or this just wasn't funny, Yeah, because hey, you're a
- 46:18Speaker 4: talking dog, aren't You'm like, wait, so you want to
- 46:20Speaker 4: be kissing a talking dog anyway?
- 46:24Speaker 1: Yeah? Folding the New Orleans up, I mean someone who's
- 46:27Speaker 1: famous from New Orleans, like, oh, you're so and so
- 46:29Speaker 1: from you know whatever, Because then we cut to mow
- 46:32Speaker 1: letting the party dressed up, and I'm like, what was
- 46:34Speaker 1: that dressed up before. I'm confused.
- 46:36Speaker 4: I'm confused once it's midnight, though, Flanner says it's ash Wednesday,
- 46:40Speaker 4: to put down your gins and confess your sins. They
- 46:42Speaker 4: are boom and they're not a fan of that at all,
- 46:44Speaker 4: and everyone's hung over the next morning.
- 46:47Speaker 2: I always wonder, how can you afford this party year
- 46:50Speaker 2: after year.
- 46:50Speaker 5: Because I have this magical scene called a home equity loan.
- 46:55Speaker 5: I borrow all the money I want and the house
- 46:58Speaker 5: gets stuck with the bill.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Sucker, I'm not sure that's how it works.
- 47:05Speaker 5: Fine, mister skeptical, give me back your beads beats, please.
- 47:10Speaker 4: And this is where Marge's He goes inside and you
- 47:11Speaker 4: see the stress on March's face. She's panicking because she's
- 47:14Speaker 4: reading bills from Country Fine climbing at their mortgage rate
- 47:16Speaker 4: is about to be reset, and Ham says, don't you worry.
- 47:19Speaker 4: It's like that time we stopped paying the phone bill.
- 47:20Speaker 4: They stopped calling us, as to everybody else. And she says,
- 47:23Speaker 4: we had to go to the mortgage broker. And then
- 47:25Speaker 4: they go to see Gil who is now the broker,
- 47:28Speaker 4: and their new monthly payments not only have a com up,
- 47:30Speaker 4: but he forgot to put the esher zero as well
- 47:32Speaker 4: as you're saying, this isn't the future.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Its allows his thinking.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Now it's a good joke, but he says his country,
- 47:37Speaker 4: or Gill says, this country takes care of its middle
- 47:39Speaker 4: class and cuts to them. Fore clothes in the house,
- 47:42Speaker 4: correct the side at the front, and don't worry that.
- 47:44Speaker 1: See you go fight.
- 47:44Speaker 4: You only got like fifty million dollars. Yeah, just clearly
- 47:47Speaker 4: the writers are China. Poke fun at the fact that
- 47:49Speaker 4: we're not getting paid enough, they're not looking after the
- 47:51Speaker 4: little guy.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Well. Sorry, this was two thousand and nine, right, so
- 47:55Speaker 1: we're crisis was about to happen, right, I think we're
- 47:59Speaker 1: in the week at this stage. It was about two
- 48:01Speaker 1: thousand and eight when it really started. Twenty ten. Ak, yeah,
- 48:03Speaker 1: that's when I think it started. And I think, yeah,
- 48:05Speaker 1: around this time, I was wanted starting to field the reap.
- 48:07Speaker 4: What a time to be alive. That was for us
- 48:09Speaker 4: that were in the States buying all those cheap DVDs
- 48:11Speaker 4: and I boughted that before. Horrible for people in the States,
- 48:13Speaker 4: but oh yeah, for the collectors.
- 48:16Speaker 1: What a time to be.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Now we've got tariffs, no, no, we've got tearffs basically, yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 4: it's going to be a bad time for them because
- 48:27Speaker 4: they've foreclosed the house and is where girl suggests they
- 48:30Speaker 4: start making soup with rocks and and grass, much as
- 48:34Speaker 4: with what he says, use the sun and hobo fires.
- 48:37Speaker 4: Then various people are checking out the house, including crazy
- 48:39Speaker 4: cat Lady using the cat's tongue to measure the length
- 48:42Speaker 4: windows and whatnot. The hibbitts or Hibbitt is there with
- 48:45Speaker 4: He's like he's nurse. I know, he knows he's made
- 48:47Speaker 4: or something.
- 48:48Speaker 1: He's old. Pair. What's an pair? It's like a nanny.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Nanny okay, because Bernice wants her out of the house.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Many such cases.
- 48:57Speaker 4: Yes, Homer has taken all the copper wire at the walls,
- 49:01Speaker 4: but apparently he hasn't disconnected it even though he's just
- 49:04Speaker 4: walked into the room with it after around his body.
- 49:06Speaker 1: How is it connected to the house. But he is
- 49:08Speaker 1: still neglected to one plug it and yes, he gets
- 49:10Speaker 1: an electric shock. Yeah.
- 49:11Speaker 4: As a result, Marge is really sad, and this is
- 49:13Speaker 4: probably the more emotional moment of the episode. Not what
- 49:15Speaker 4: comes after this bit, but Marge saying I shouldn't get
- 49:18Speaker 4: attached to a building, but it's impossible not to, isn't it.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Oh God, where at least took her first steps. This
- 49:23Speaker 4: is Bart's height Homer's weight, which I thought was a
- 49:25Speaker 4: funny visual. His stummay getting further and further out. But
- 49:28Speaker 4: moving house is a bit. You create memories and moments here,
- 49:31Speaker 4: and I can understand why Marge in particular wouldn't want
- 49:33Speaker 4: to leave.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Absolutely. I had an insolent not that long ago where
- 49:39Speaker 1: I was sort of you know, this is my house
- 49:41Speaker 1: by myself and camp basing, and I went camp base
- 49:45Speaker 1: the canty. Actually it was part of the Big the
- 49:47Speaker 1: Big Bitch, because he's like curl on the couch, all
- 49:49Speaker 1: very comfortable and everything like that. Sort of walking from
- 49:52Speaker 1: the kitchen to the living room. He had a little
- 49:54Speaker 1: snack or something like that, and I was looking at
- 49:56Speaker 1: the stuff I had on the walls and just the
- 49:58Speaker 1: vibe that I had. It's like this home, it's my house. Yeah.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I just felt good as yeah, it's mine. Yeah, and
- 50:07Speaker 1: it reflects who I am and all that comes up.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Sorry I'm not describing me very well, but just it
- 50:13Speaker 1: was just a really good feeling. Yeah, it's I feel
- 50:17Speaker 1: kind of emotional. That's like I.
- 50:19Speaker 4: Saw a video the other day because when my Nan
- 50:21Speaker 4: passed away, my NaN's house was like the family rockers,
- 50:24Speaker 4: Like we all go to NaN's house for the family
- 50:27Speaker 4: gatherings and whatnot. And when she passed away, they knocked
- 50:29Speaker 4: her house down. Within a week we went there, it
- 50:31Speaker 4: was just it was gone. I went all the memories
- 50:34Speaker 4: of my childoore, just like demolished to build a unit.
- 50:36Speaker 1: You know.
- 50:36Speaker 4: I just went, ah, so you just built two or
- 50:38Speaker 4: three units on a block. But we found this old
- 50:40Speaker 4: tape and I was converting old family tapes and there's
- 50:42Speaker 4: this tape at NaN's house and I was like, It's
- 50:45Speaker 4: NaN's house, and all these feelings, all these memories just
- 50:48Speaker 4: come floating back. I was like, it's the bathroom, it's
- 50:50Speaker 4: it's the spare room. I haven't seen me since they
- 50:52Speaker 4: knocked the house. Because we didn't think at the time
- 50:54Speaker 4: to be taking videos of this stuff. It was just
- 50:56Speaker 4: it was NaN's house and within a week it was
- 50:58Speaker 4: just gone.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I went, we haven't.
- 51:01Speaker 4: It only exists in my mind now, but to see
- 51:03Speaker 4: this video, it brought me to tears, going it's Nane
- 51:06Speaker 4: in her house. It's the place, you know, it's it's
- 51:10Speaker 4: we do create these connections to these buildings.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 51:14Speaker 4: So seeing Nan come out of a front door and
- 51:16Speaker 4: the camera went inside the front door, I was like, oh,
- 51:18Speaker 4: I'm so glad, I'm so glad I can watch this. Yeah,
- 51:22Speaker 4: it sounds it sounds silly, I know, but yeah, there's bricks.
- 51:26Speaker 1: And mortar and plassroom all that comes souf but you know, you.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Know your personal always smell her house. When I was
- 51:30Speaker 4: watching it, eh, it was nice. But so she doesn't
- 51:35Speaker 4: want to leave, and then we have Lisa saying, oh,
- 51:37Speaker 4: Mum's really really sad. She thought she was a strong one, and.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Bart says she is.
- 51:42Speaker 4: This next bit, I'm going to say is the darkest
- 51:48Speaker 4: scene joke we've had on The Simpsons to date so far.
- 51:53Speaker 4: So we're after season twenty now of the show. Never
- 51:56Speaker 4: have we had a more depressing moment, I don't think.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Because Homer is going to hang himself because he obviously
- 52:03Speaker 4: feels bad about what he's done or whatever, or he's
- 52:05Speaker 4: just feels bad he don't have to deal with the
- 52:09Speaker 4: rip for once. He now is suffering repercussions for his actions,
- 52:12Speaker 4: and rather than deal with it and be a man
- 52:14Speaker 4: for his family, he's going to hang himself. Not just
- 52:16Speaker 4: hang himself, but hanging himself in front of his kids,
- 52:19Speaker 4: knowing they're standing there watching. He even says goodbye to
- 52:21Speaker 4: them and actually hangs himself, but because he's so fat, apparently,
- 52:25Speaker 4: he drags the tree down and smashes the car.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Who approved that? Yeah, I don't think it's worth the
- 52:31Speaker 1: quote unquote payoff of the tree being ridden crashing the car.
- 52:35Speaker 1: He hangs himself in front of Barton lisat there, what
- 52:39Speaker 1: are we doing? The only comp I can think of
- 52:43Speaker 1: is you know that very early episode where I think
- 52:46Speaker 1: he's ready to jump off the bridge or something like that.
- 52:48Speaker 1: That's episode three. Yeah, yeah, well, very early episode. Yeah,
- 52:51Speaker 1: but that was in service of something larger. He left
- 52:55Speaker 1: a note and he took himself away in the middle
- 52:57Speaker 1: of the nights and no one would see him or
- 52:58Speaker 1: find him. He just wanted to be sunk to the
- 52:59Speaker 1: one of the river.
- 53:01Speaker 4: Here was just at the front of the house hanging himself,
- 53:03Speaker 4: says goodbye to his kids, and then presses the hangars
- 53:06Speaker 4: and you see him hanging himself.
- 53:08Speaker 1: I just I was flabbergasted when I saw it. I
- 53:10Speaker 1: couldn't believe it. Yeah, I don't think I'm necessarily that
- 53:13Speaker 1: sort of snow flaky. A person when coming like this
- 53:15Speaker 1: is in pretty bad taste.
- 53:17Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I was quite shocked when I saw that
- 53:22Speaker 4: he actually followed through with it as well and tried
- 53:24Speaker 4: to actually hang himself. I thought, I'm not sure what
- 53:26Speaker 4: you're doing at this riders at the moment, but that
- 53:28Speaker 4: was that decision should have been right the way vitoed. Yes,
- 53:33Speaker 4: not good at all, but it's time now for the auction.
- 53:36Speaker 4: Mister Burns wants to buy it for his cufflings. He's
- 53:38Speaker 4: offers one hundred thousand dollars, but Flannders sees the family
- 53:41Speaker 4: they're all sad, so he offers one hundred and one thousand,
- 53:43Speaker 4: and Burns says, I've already listed this paddle once today
- 53:46Speaker 4: paddles that what they're called. Yes, I'm not hercules. I'm
- 53:48Speaker 4: not doing it again. So he wins it is another
- 53:50Speaker 4: never found it. As the Elchin said to the dirt,
- 53:53Speaker 4: why do.
- 53:53Speaker 1: They always have to have him say these things? In
- 53:55Speaker 1: infuriating He says, I appreciate the sentiment.
- 53:58Speaker 4: So he says he'll back to them and they can
- 54:01Speaker 4: pay back whatever they can until they get themselves back
- 54:03Speaker 4: on their feet. His first mistake, honestly, never give him
- 54:07Speaker 4: some leeway.
- 54:07Speaker 1: No, no, give him a ninch, They'll take ten miles. Yeah,
- 54:11Speaker 1: incredibly selfless gesture. Oh, Flanners was an absolute saint in
- 54:14Speaker 1: this episode. Absolute saint. So before they go inside, though,
- 54:17Speaker 1: Homer has to rush inside to grab the surprise of
- 54:18Speaker 1: left for the new owner, which you immediately think is
- 54:20Speaker 1: a turd, as I said, but it turns out to
- 54:21Speaker 1: be the card reading please love her home as much
- 54:23Speaker 1: as we did, which was a nice moment, but doesn't
- 54:25Speaker 1: make sense because how much of a joke Home has
- 54:27Speaker 1: been beforehand and after that moment. So the family is
- 54:29Speaker 1: now celebrating after an attempting to take a photo, which
- 54:32Speaker 1: pays off a little bit later. I don't mind, but
- 54:35Speaker 1: Bart has an extra photo, so he pulls a funny face.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Lisa puts a smiling foot over the front.
- 54:38Speaker 4: He puts a funny face photo over the front of it,
- 54:40Speaker 4: says that evil always triumphs, or evil triumphs again, sheets
- 54:43Speaker 4: him in the face with the photo. Marge then asks
- 54:45Speaker 4: Homer to fix the leaky tap, which he does with
- 54:47Speaker 4: the cat. He basically doesn't know how to do it properly,
- 54:48Speaker 4: so has the cat sit on the tap, preventing it
- 54:50Speaker 4: from leaking, but Flanner says, let me sort this out
- 54:53Speaker 4: and goes to get his tools, which are already in
- 54:54Speaker 4: the Simpson's house. And the hot now comes out of
- 54:57Speaker 4: the hot and Marge asks him to do some more
- 54:59Speaker 4: things around the house, including d clogging the bathroom sink,
- 55:01Speaker 4: which is full of Homer's hair. He puts it on
- 55:03Speaker 4: his head and says, I'm back baby. I was just
- 55:05Speaker 4: going I think I would like this joke.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I to laugh at it.
- 55:09Speaker 4: Marge's now bragging to Patty and somewhere. You know, he's
- 55:11Speaker 4: like a genue. You ask him to do something and
- 55:12Speaker 4: he just does it. And their house is now up
- 55:14Speaker 4: to code.
- 55:15Speaker 1: So then and he actually sort of comes in with
- 55:18Speaker 1: the ta. He's got a bandage, just trick on a lamp,
- 55:22Speaker 1: so that was all right. Then she click.
- 55:25Speaker 4: Then she calls Flanners and Mill of the night saying
- 55:27Speaker 4: that they've got a gas leak. And he says, well,
- 55:28Speaker 4: I've already had my glass of warm milk, so I'm
- 55:30Speaker 4: closed for business today.
- 55:32Speaker 1: And does hope does flatters work? That's a good question.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Does the left orion still exist?
- 55:36Speaker 2: Oh?
- 55:36Speaker 1: Yeah, left oreum? Does it still exist? Well, we never
- 55:38Speaker 1: seem there that's the thing. Maybe he won't come over.
- 55:42Speaker 5: What flanders landlord like, you're not coming to earth. You
- 55:46Speaker 5: lag around in your age McMansions, and we never see
- 55:49Speaker 5: you unless the rent checks late.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Man, check is late. Some friend you are the minute
- 55:55Speaker 1: you become our landlord. You expect us to pay rent.
- 55:58Speaker 5: You'd better just pray. I don't fight where you live.
- 56:01Speaker 5: Don't forget to try to check it.
- 56:04Speaker 1: They kind of wrong foot themselves though, the writers or
- 56:08Speaker 1: the maker. You don't say, but I mean a gas
- 56:12Speaker 1: leak is kind of something. Oh well, maybe maybe he
- 56:14Speaker 1: should go over if there's a gas leak or something,
- 56:16Speaker 1: because that's life threat. Also, if there's a gas leak
- 56:18Speaker 1: and there's fire, there would be an explosion. Correct, So
- 56:22Speaker 1: if you're trying to present the Simpsons as you know,
- 56:24Speaker 1: taking advantage of the nerd, then it needs to be
- 56:28Speaker 1: something a little more trivial. It does indeed. Yeah, maybe
- 56:32Speaker 1: he's thinking in his mind, these guys are just trying
- 56:34Speaker 1: to get me over the house. Just do more shit.
- 56:36Speaker 4: I don't know, but more I think about a gas
- 56:38Speaker 4: leak with flames coming of it, that's not that's going
- 56:40Speaker 4: to explode. Yeah, So he's now at most he's obviously
- 56:43Speaker 4: been bitching about Flanders. He says that if he was
- 56:45Speaker 4: Marge's landlord, he would treat a riding a taker on
- 56:47Speaker 4: holidays and whatnot. And then he says to Homo, you
- 56:49Speaker 4: should do an expose aid like they did on him
- 56:51Speaker 4: three times. The third one he was nominated for a Peabody.
- 56:54Speaker 4: I believe they have known for a peabody.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Doesn't know what it is.
- 56:56Speaker 4: Then we get the story on Flanders, and we get
- 57:00Speaker 4: Homer doing the usual shadow voice where he's in the
- 57:02Speaker 4: dark and forced rocker. You don't know what he's talking about.
- 57:04Speaker 4: Lisa interrupts. I didn't mind, Lisa saying do you want
- 57:07Speaker 4: a cookie? Yes, well that it would be left in
- 57:10Speaker 4: I don't know, but you know it's the Simpsons. So
- 57:12Speaker 4: then the squeaky staircase, a horrible portra or something on
- 57:16Speaker 4: the wall. But is a poltergeist in the cupboard that
- 57:18Speaker 4: he sat on.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Him and killed him or something. I died when my
- 57:20Speaker 1: father sat on me.
- 57:21Speaker 4: Then he says who is responsible for these outrages? The
- 57:23Speaker 4: man whose opinion we didn't bother to get or something
- 57:25Speaker 4: that he didn't speak to. And Flanners and bothered by
- 57:28Speaker 4: this he's watching it with Rod and Todd, and he
- 57:29Speaker 4: changes the channel to how to block channels.
- 57:32Speaker 1: He's got a lot of block channel he has, indeed,
- 57:34Speaker 1: But I did like they refer to this segment as
- 57:37Speaker 1: the evil Ned, did they? I like that? That's good?
- 57:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Homer Simpson and I took pity on you. And
- 57:43Speaker 2: what do I get in return? A kicking the cadetl hopper.
- 57:48Speaker 2: It's not funny. That's how I swear.
- 57:51Speaker 5: Fine, you're mad? What are you going to do about it?
- 57:54Speaker 1: When the month is up, I want you out.
- 57:57Speaker 5: Fine, I'll get another neighbor to bite and let us
- 58:00Speaker 5: live in it.
- 58:01Speaker 1: We will do it. You're leading is our Christmas Sanders.
- 58:06Speaker 1: You wouldn't throw us ou down Christmas? Would you? Now?
- 58:11Speaker 4: We have Homer over at Flannder's house and middle of
- 58:13Speaker 4: the night, pretending to be Jesus standing over Ned's bed.
- 58:15Speaker 1: That does the old uh? We said? He's from the
- 58:18Speaker 1: workshop in the North Pole. He says, who is the
- 58:19Speaker 1: son of Zacharyah? Do you happen to have a computer?
- 58:22Speaker 1: You buy? I do like that.
- 58:23Speaker 4: Even twenty years later, Dan's dumbhommer voices, do you do
- 58:27Speaker 4: a computer still safe?
- 58:29Speaker 1: A dook?
- 58:29Speaker 3: No?
- 58:30Speaker 4: It hasn't changed at all. But we cut to him
- 58:32Speaker 4: nailing the eviction signed to the door and yeah, maybe
- 58:35Speaker 4: it's thesis that's gross. I like that, but it's the
- 58:38Speaker 4: eviction not as we point out home and then points
- 58:40Speaker 4: out that there's a way that is a loophole they
- 58:42Speaker 4: can they can do to get to stay in the house.
- 58:44Speaker 4: He gets the simply unevictable tenant guide and that this
- 58:47Speaker 4: needs to be a resident in the house who was
- 58:49Speaker 4: aged sixty five or over. So finally the's a practical
- 58:52Speaker 4: use for his father. So he's wheeling out Grandpa out
- 58:54Speaker 4: of the old Folks Home. He's getting his escaping. It's
- 58:56Speaker 4: like he's getting out of prison. I think the old
- 58:57Speaker 4: Jewish guy says something like, tell them.
- 58:59Speaker 1: What you saw here?
- 59:00Speaker 4: Have you got a really weird joke that didn't happen
- 59:02Speaker 4: of the nurses or the people having any guys? Oh,
- 59:05Speaker 4: the drawing makeup on them when they sleep. I'm thinking,
- 59:07Speaker 4: why is everybody in this town a bad person? Every
- 59:12Speaker 4: person is either angry or horrible. No one's nice anymore
- 59:17Speaker 4: except for Flanders Man.
- 59:19Speaker 1: There's been episodes in the past where yeah, it feels
- 59:22Speaker 1: like net is the only good person in town and
- 59:24Speaker 1: why you know why bad people succeeding when you know
- 59:26Speaker 1: everything's against me. I think that's like the lotorium one. Yeah, absolutely,
- 59:30Speaker 1: Apparently it's because Homer didn't te anybody in the shop
- 59:32Speaker 1: existed as all Homo's fault. Yeah, but I don't know
- 59:37Speaker 1: that that episode is like that seemed to have more
- 59:38Speaker 1: of a point, or at least at more of a heart. Yeah,
- 59:41Speaker 1: one hundred percent. They do.
- 59:42Speaker 4: Yeah, but well, at the end of the episode, Homer
- 59:44Speaker 4: acknowledged that he did the wrong thing, Homo.
- 59:46Speaker 1: That's the problem.
- 59:47Speaker 4: Homer doesn't acknowledge he does anything wrong anymore, that is
- 59:49Speaker 4: the key problem here, and tries to make amends, which, yeah,
- 59:52Speaker 4: impt Homer is trying to watch Bad Mitton on the
- 59:54Speaker 4: TV whilst the kids are playing actual Bad Mitton in
- 59:56Speaker 4: the house because we don't get this discussion. But apparently
- 59:59Speaker 4: they decide that they have to day in the house
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: as well. I'm not sure why they thought that. Oh yeah,
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: they have to stay actually inside the inside the house,
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: because I thought the loophole was at the sixty five
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: year had to be living there. Why do they have
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: to stay in the house. It's like there's a scene
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: missing here. Something deleted.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: It's like, why they why are they staying in the house?
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: Yeah, then I think it's Marge says, oh, this is
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: only the old person needs to stay here. So they
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: put on a video of Eisenhower playing golf, explaining golf
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: for gad.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I had to watch again. One of those gigs is
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: just stretched out way too long as well. I mean, yeah,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: you could have just had Eisenhower, you know, putting from
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: the ruff or whatever, but instaid. Yeah, I had like
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: another thirty seconds of tank footage.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: It's like, we also get it's a weird moment. So
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: Marge's let's do a family outing and Lisa's Lisa's gay,
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: and she goes, well, why I wouldn't want to be
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: like my gay idols? And she just starts listening off
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: people at Billy Jean King, SUSY's on tape of Les
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: Boss and to a lesser extent more but maybe Suspect Peppermint.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Paddy Paddy.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: So it's like, what's the point of what was you?
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: Why I wouldn't want to be like these people? This
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: person's gay, this person's gay.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: It's like because the punchline of that is yeah, just
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: like and we guess Pep and Patty. But yeah, but
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: the joke, yeah, which is like a very old gag. Yeah.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: But the family are returning from getting some ice cream,
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: and I noticed all their belongings are now on the
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: lawn since Grandpa now lives with Flanders because he feeds
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: in people food. Well, co compete with that, Asa says.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: And I didn't mind this as well. Well, you know what, Marge,
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: don't cry. At least it's not raining. And he's told
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: he's not raining. I was like, okay, you got me.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: I expected it to start raining, did all right. But
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: the family are now sleeping at the homeless shelter wearing
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: their old shirts, which are the first Hog movie and
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: the second Holg movie. Yeah, so the first one being
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: the Eric Banner one, the second one being the Edward Norton. Yes,
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: which one's better Edward Norton? No, every Banner really, I
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: like it a lot more. Okay, then there we go.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: It was it. There was time for a tangent. There
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: was a great time in the early two thousands when admittedly,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: you know, sure, we were getting superhero movies like Daredevil,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: which went great, but we're also getting weird experiments like Hulk,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: which is you know, and they weren't banned to continue
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: or anything like that. Let's just make a commic book
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: movie with a common book chacter where they used to
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: be Oh yeah, you'd got you know, you got the
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Sam Raimi Spider Man, You've got X Men too, one
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: of the high water marks of common book movies. Now,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: the MC is great and all that kind of stuff,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: but they're all very formula. These are a bit more
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: experimental and fun.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: I think we're I dare I say. I know they're
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: putting all the chips into this new one, but I
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: think we're we're all coming to the sense or to
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: the point of going.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I think it's done. I think we're a little over it.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: I think I think the era is over. I think
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: you're gonna try one more time and realize, oh yeah,
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: this is fun. But we're kind of over it now
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: because I'm just I couldn't give two shits about the
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: next Superhero movie, you know what. I feel like we're
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: entering now. I feel like we're entering the video game
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: movie era.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Oh we definitely are. Yeah, Oh yeah, I think you know,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: with Minecraft doing as well as it has well, Sonic
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Sonic really paved the way the one, two, three punch
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: pretty much of Sonic and you know it's sequels Super
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Mario and now Minecraft and is a Legend of Zelda
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: movie coming out. Yeah, that's been in the weeks for
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: a little while, so that's definitely happening. And you had
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: the Last of Us TV show which is just returned. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I really hope they do a Crash Bandicoot film. I
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: think you could really do a Crash Banic if. Even
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: though Crashmanic it doesn't really talk, but Sony didn't talk
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: either in the game. He spoke on the TV show,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: so you can crash boys. Well, this is the ip
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: that quote unquote the kids are into Yeah that Minecraft
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: things insane, mate, that chicken jockey. Oh yeah, you can't
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: explain it, You can't explain it. No, I'm just saying
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: the words. I'm I'm nodding because I know sort of
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: what it means. But it's not it's not for me.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: It's just a part.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: It's just a part of the film where they say
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: chicken jockey and it's just a excuses throw it around
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: the movies, and it's just it's just become a trend.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: Knowing he explained why it's become a trend. It's just
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: someone did it once and now everyone's doing it, and
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: as a result, the box office for the film is
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: skyrocking because everyone wants to go to the movies to
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: do this. Oh yeah, absolutely no, it's it's doing very,
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: very good. I don't think the box office is a
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: representation of the quality of the film. But you know what,
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: But as Leonard discussed on the Maltain movie Go with
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Malton and Davis, it's getting people to the cinema.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Is it for the right reasons? I don't know. But
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: it's getting kids back to the movies again. Yes.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: Whether that in turn has a long term effect of
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: oh hey, this is fucking fun. We can go to
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: the movies and hang out again and do shit as
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: a group, who knows.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: But it's making the movie going experience still relevant and
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: for a new generation. Now have you noticed now cinemas
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: are now having Chicky Jockey Chicken Jockey screenings where they
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: go all right, if you want to go crazy, come
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: to the Chicken Jockey screening where we are allowing you
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: to run wild. And people are the tickets are selling
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: out for it. Oh yeah, good for them. Good. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: I mean if it means a couple of teenagers have
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: to clear up some popcorn at the end, and so
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: be it, earn your money, earn your twelve dollars.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: No, it's good.

- 1:05:31Speaker 4: family are all out and seeing me at the Homer
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: shelter wearing the whole movie's shirts, as we said, because
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: they're the shirts that they donated the year prior. So
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: now they've given them the shirts that they donated. But
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: it's now kicking Lisa, who says that kicking is the
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: only toy he has. And Lisa says, this is the
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: lowest worth sunk and very true. I think there is
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: the lowest that the show has sunk. That suicide moment
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: really put a bad taste in my mouth. I think
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: there's more than a few moments in this episode's kind
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: of like, this is kind of off the rail.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: It's really depressing.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: It is seeing them, Seeing the kids sleeping in the
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: homeless shelter by no fault of their own was really depressing,
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: and by actions that could have easily been avoided. Just
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: pay your fucking bills. And then you had a guy
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: that bought your house. Just treat him nicely. He's one
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: of your best friends. He lives next door. But you
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: couldn't do that either, So you're there because your parents
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: are selfish people. I thought this is just despicable.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it feels weird sort of saying this. I mean
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: speaking from Australia, where in what everyone is calling a
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: housing crisis and all that kind of stuff. And if
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: you listen to various news sources, anyone will say, ooh, landlords,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: no one should own a how no one should be
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: renting out houses, do anything like that. I don't know.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: He seems like a pretty decent landlord. This guy Flanner
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: is just one of the best for them. He bought
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: their house so they wouldn't lose it. I can't believe we're,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: you know, sympathizing with the one percent here, but there
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: we go.
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: Yeah, but a new couple now want to sign the lease.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: They're essentially Flannders this couple.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Aren't they. Indeed, do you do you know this couple's name.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: I can't remember their name. But the dog is called
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Woofy Goldberg. This couple is called Nat and Nancy Gladness.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: Ah, yeah, I didn't notice that, but yeah, Woofy Goldberg
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: brings the photo that they took earlier in the episode.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: I've just got yere.
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: At least that's the photo has a payoff. Least there's
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: some sort of long term payoff here in this episode.
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: But Planner sees it and says, I can't mention to
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: you now, actually starts crying it or gets all emotionally.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: He misses the family. I'm thinking you've just evicted them.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: You've just they've been treating you that likes it. There's
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: not enough time. Not enough time has passed for me
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: to give a shit and for me to go Oh,
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: I can see why. He's just he's made a decision
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: and going, oh, I feel bad now. I feel it's
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: almost like he's apologizing for it.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and if we're going to be doing our fix
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: it routine, yeah, as you mentioned before, you need to
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: stretch out that time that they're spending in the homeless shelter.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: All this spending sort of you know, down on their luck.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I think Ned needs to see the Simpsons family sort
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: of like, ah, well, we're kicking you out of this
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: shelter for various reasons. You have to go to another shell.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: And they're sort of like in the Grapes of Wrath
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: or something. They taking all their worldly positions and trudging
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: on the straight looking miserable. They're really in the shit
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: and Ned needs to maybe see that and for his
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: real charitable instincts to sort of kick in. And that's
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: when you get a few memories of like, you know
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: what we've had. We actually have had a lot of
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: good times together, and he's a legitimately good person. He's like,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I'll help him any way I can. I mean it
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: feels a little bit more runed. I'm not saying this
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: is a major fix it or anything like that, but
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: I think it would sort of give the episode a
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: little bit more structural, make a little bit more sense that.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: I think we need to include Bart and Lisa more
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: in this. First of all, have one of them say,
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: should we be treating Planners like this? He seems like
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: he's done. It's a solid here.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: That's it's usually Lisa's role to do that. And I think,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: and also, yeah, maybe have the kids like genuinely sad
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: or suffering as a result Planners see that? Yeah, but
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: also have Homeer and Marge see that, yeah, and realize,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: oh shit, we fucked up in a lot of ways yea,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: and our children are suffering a result as a result
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: of that. I just think it would give the would
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: yeah said, make the episode make more sense.
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: Yeah, But Flanners says that he can't rent to these
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: people now. I like the little rud pool of there going.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: I hope you don't mum when we sue. But they're
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: actually they're actually pissed off, and they say, well, hasn't
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: this been a pitch of a breach? So they're gonna
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: be suing Flanners because they's just signed the least And
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: he says, you can't do it now. Homer says he'll
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: never backslide. He or not you'll never be mean to
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: the Flanners again, but we know he will. They said,
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: the Simpsons are back, and everyone wants to leave and
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: move out of the neighborhood. Now he says, I really
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: hate this neighborhood, and just I can't quite work out
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: what the point of this episode was.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: No, me neither. I mean, I think we said not
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: every episode has to be a very special episode. Not
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: every episode has to have a message. But so does
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Flanners now owner Simpson's house? Or is it just no, no,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: no status quo. Yeah, I was wondering about that. Yeah,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: is he now their landlord? I imagine he would still
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: be right, Oh, of course he would. Of course he
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: fucking won't be.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: Nothing matters anymore, nothing continues in the next episode. It's
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: all just fucking jokes that don't make sense anymore. It's
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: all just stories that exist in one bubble, and you're
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: supposed to just shut up and enjoy it.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: But amazing that, you know, there was that episode where oh,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: the Simpsons I think it was roscal Lee Brown or
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Morgan Freeman or someone doing the voice over at the ends,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: and then the Simpsons were rescued by No, I don't know,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think it was a actual It
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: was James L. Jones, Yeah, yeah, bus. Yeah, I'm mixing
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: up my wonderful adults tones of African American actors. Could
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: could have been Harry Sheer though maybe maybe it feels
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: like someone with a little more gravitas, and Harry's got
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: plenty of gravitars, don't get me wrong, but you know,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: to say, oh, and by the way, I was James L. Jones, Yeah,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: having a rate to say the oh. And then Homer
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: found an old lottery ticket to bound the back of
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: the couch and you know, worth one hundred thousand dollars,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: they was able to buy their house back. Something just
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: something like that. Of course you go, oh duh, but
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: it's like you're itch would be scratched.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: Yeahs at least you even never stupid, a least you
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: acknowledge trying to give us some sort of ending. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: because the end of Dustbus doesn't make sense.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: But we all laugh at it. Goes ah, it's just stupid. Yeah,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: they realize they've written themselves into a hole or into
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: a corner. It's like a right, let's do a bit
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: of a due mcnher and things'll be back to normal.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: What do we learn, Bomber, So, what did you learn
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: from the episode? Mister Davis? Not to watch No Loan again? Naturally.
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: Ever, again, that's probably a good advice. Yeah, I learned
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: to go do Mardi grab but it's not tell nikolokenty
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: of beads?
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Did you end up with the Sydney game? Lesbian? Marty
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Ground is like, wait a minute, but I'm meeting a
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: whole bunch of cool new bros.

- 1:12:08Speaker 1: topless bar. Share that to you Hughesy. I think that's

- 1:13:15Speaker 1: all due respect to our friend Chris Clark, who you know,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: just earned himself a point. Feels like a very anonymous
