- 0:00Welcome to Multiple Nerdgasm with your hosts Matt, Luke, and
- 0:08Dan. Multiple Nerdgasm, your guide to
- 0:13all things nerdy. There's a lot of dead people
- 0:21because it's been 2 weeks. That's why.
- 0:24I was like how the fuck did I watch so many movies?
- 0:28It's because it's been 2 weeks. It's been 2 weeks.
- 0:31We disappeared to Pax which God I had fun again.
- 0:34Dan, you need to do the Sunday. You miss out on the Sunday.
- 0:37The Sunday is the best day. Yeah, I had to leave early
- 0:43because I I bought a ticket to the poor airline and so I had to
- 0:46take a bus out to some field and get on a plane.
- 0:49Oh yeah. Gatwick Sundays, a day I like.
- 0:51To go on in fucking Melbourne. Avalon.
- 0:54Avalon That's right, because Sundays, a day we eventually
- 0:59women talk to people. Actually, you're right, I did a
- 1:04lot of talking on Sunday morning because Sunday mornings when I
- 1:08went back to the video game section, which for some reason,
- 1:12even though I assume that's where I'm going to spend most of
- 1:14my time, we barely even hung out there because we're just a whole
- 1:18time. Yeah, right.
- 1:21He's infected you. I.
- 1:23Really did. And tabletop games.
- 1:25I know, right? Yeah.
- 1:27But no, it's actually because it's actually part of my plan.
- 1:29I like to do walk around the sort of the games to begin with,
- 1:33then spend the rest of time at tabletop.
- 1:36And then on Sundays, today, I like to go and talk to the
- 1:39people who have made the games and stuff because that's the
- 1:41quietest day for them. Yeah, that's sort of Family Day,
- 1:45yeah. I was gonna say Sunday for me is
- 1:47usually just kind of mopping up, which sounds gross, but it's
- 1:52like, oh, I saw a thing, but there were too many people.
- 1:54So yeah, Sunday, let's go back and retread all that stuff,
- 1:58yeah? Yeah, there's some good stuff,
- 2:01which I'll I'm not prepared to talk about this week because
- 2:04I've been trying to build a bed, a dishwasher.
- 2:08Yeah, and ask me. Yeah, the police have asked me
- 2:11enough questions. Yeah, at this point.
- 2:13Look, I think we should talk about the medals we won, so
- 2:16because that's exciting. So yeah.
- 2:18I've met this. PAX medal here that says
- 2:20tabletop tournament champion, which is pretty nice.
- 2:23You. What medal have you got, Luke?
- 2:27I have a pity medal from 10 years ago, but it was a pity
- 2:32medal. I've never won an official
- 2:33medal. Then who I taught to play King
- 2:37of Tokyo goes on and wins the tournament.
- 2:41It appears The Apprentice has become the master.
- 2:44Yes, yes, yeah. Full credit to Luke.
- 2:46He he did teach me to play after I played two or three games of
- 2:49it last year. I was like, Luke, how do you
- 2:51play this game? I think it's fun, but I don't
- 2:56know what I'm doing. I do know what I'm doing now,
- 2:58but I still think I accidentally won.
- 3:00But I'll still take the win. Good enough that.
- 3:03Happens a lot. I will sit down and I will help
- 3:07people learn to play the game and they go on to win the
- 3:10tournament. Even that is that comedian.
- 3:13She's got ATV show. I forget who she is.
- 3:18Melanie Bracewell, I taught her to play the game.
- 3:21She went on to win the game and then she went on to her show to
- 3:25brag about how she won with people who play all the time.
- 3:28I taught you, bitch. Yeah, I'm also going on my show
- 3:32to brag on it. So I mean, who am I to judge?
- 3:34She's not lying, Luke. She did win.
- 3:36She. Did win.
- 3:38I understand. Did she name check you though?
- 3:40Did she say no thanks? Shout out to Luke Aldous.
- 3:42Now see that's. What?
- 3:43No, she was bragging that she beat people who had been playing
- 3:46it for years and stuff like that.
- 3:47And that's what. Annoyed.
- 3:48You're the person, all right? So she not only did she not name
- 3:51you, but she shamed you instead. Yes.
- 3:54It had it been like they say, Luke, those who can't do teach,
- 3:58teach. Yeah.
- 3:59I'm a great teacher. I do have to buy this game.
- 4:02I do have to get a copy of this game.
- 4:04Buy King of New York. OK, maybe.
- 4:07Maybe. Yeah.
- 4:09New York Just that might cost a little bit more.
- 4:11Might want to avoid the US ones right now.
- 4:14That also true. Also true.
- 4:15Yeah, New York just adds a few extra elements.
- 4:18Yeah, just a random few extra elements on top depending on
- 4:22what day it is. Yeah, that's right.
- 4:25Can I enter Trump Tower when I'm there?
- 4:29There are towers which you have to destroy.
- 4:32Oh, too soon, topical too soon. Yeah, it's only been 24 years.
- 4:37Yeah, I do have to buy that. And I bought I bought one game
- 4:41at PAX and then I also bought another game from PAX after I
- 4:45came home because for some reason I saw something else that
- 4:49I liked there and then didn't buy it.
- 4:51And I came home and I was like, I do want to, I do want to own
- 4:53that. So I I also bought Buffet Boss
- 4:55which is coming yes. Buffet Boss is a great name.
- 5:00That's a that, yeah, that is a great game.
- 5:01It's a bit like some pressure luck like getting getting sort
- 5:06of ingredients and trying to you have to sort of make them sit on
- 5:11a towel type of thing that falls over.
- 5:13Yeah, so I think it's like Jenga with food with with Asian food.
- 5:18And I figure Harper can play it with us even if she doesn't, you
- 5:22know, roll the dice. Play by the the real rules.
- 5:25Yes. She can still just.
- 5:27Stop far away from playing some of the Quacker games, but.
- 5:32How dare you? Which I think that'll be quite
- 5:34good for her. And you just stop playing.
- 5:38Which of those? Daughter also play them Luke or
- 5:40is it just? Yeah, no, no, no.
- 5:43OK. Because Luke has to teach her
- 5:44how to do it, and it's much easier for him to come here and
- 5:47teach Harper than he is. Luke doesn't like playing with
- 5:50people as he can teach them to beat him.
- 5:51Yes. No, but I think a lot of those,
- 5:54even for Matt, even for yes, she can play as well.
- 5:58I think they're getting to the age where they keep.
- 6:01Thanks. Mate, they're sort of simple
- 6:04games and just card games and I think they're nearly, they're
- 6:08nearly there. Yeah, yeah, maybe a year or two.
- 6:13Harper enjoys Snap now. She's like stuff like that.
- 6:17She's she's, she's at the level for Snap.
- 6:19She she understands C2 Snap it. Yeah, we do the memory game that
- 6:25she's. Oh yeah.
- 6:27Yeah, she she likes doing that. She's good at.
- 6:29That we've got a great one that's a yes up Cheats as well.
- 6:32Yeah, yeah, they think. She's very clever too.
- 6:37Yes, they just think they're better at the game than us.
- 6:40Yeah, like dad doesn't turn over cars.
- 6:42This shortcut where I just cheat.
- 6:44Have a little look. Yeah, yeah, and she could be all
- 6:46the ones I'm not supposed to know about.
- 6:48Harper cheats at Snakes and Ladders too, by just going up
- 6:51and down as she pleases. Yes, there it does it, too.
- 6:54We've got this Disney one where it's like a big board and you
- 6:56move up the board and you have to look for pictures.
- 6:59Have you got that one? Yes.
- 7:00And then yeah, Yeah. And Larry goes, oh, I'll just
- 7:02take the shortcut. And it's like, well, hang on a
- 7:03minute, You can't just go up on because you're near it.
- 7:05Yeah, that's right. Yeah, Yeah.
- 7:09Well, whatever. Why not?
- 7:10Yeah, exactly. It's just not worth arguing.
- 7:13Then there was my dad, who never ever let me win at chess and I
- 7:16still to this day I've never had the satisfaction of beating my
- 7:19father at chess. And also, I'm not a lot.
- 7:23Now what if our listeners grant I'd beat you at chess?
- 7:27Yes. Never playing, Yeah.
- 7:31Once the one time you played. Didn't we 20 years Patriots a
- 7:34rematch? You agreed to do a rematch.
- 7:37If you paid $100. A. $100 tease.
- 7:42I think somebody. Did that he was more than
- 7:45willing to pay $100 for a rematch.
- 7:48I also said though, we had to recreate, so we had to go ahead
- 7:51and get very, very, very drunk. Yeah, and we have to we have to
- 7:54go to my old my old apartment in Summerhill.
- 7:57Knock on the door. Sorry, I used to live here.
- 8:00I don't know if you bought this for me.
- 8:01You were. Very drunk and we need to
- 8:03reenact something. Yeah, yeah, we've bought a chess
- 8:06board if that clears anything up.
- 8:09Yeah. Speaking of listeners, I think
- 8:12the highlight of packs this year for me was that I met a
- 8:15listener. You.
- 8:17Finally met him this show. Yes, I did.
- 8:20I met Matthew. Have you met?
- 8:22Have I met listeners before? I've met the listeners, yeah.
- 8:25I've not met the listener you're talking about.
- 8:27No, no, it's less likely these days.
- 8:31Yeah, we lassie. Yeah, I think I'm, I'm confident
- 8:36that lassie's OK being named. Yeah, I'm sure all I met.
- 8:39Is. Pomniac Legion.
- 8:43Did you? It was Cognac Legion there.
- 8:46At PAX. A measure on Sunday.
- 8:48There. You go.
- 8:51That's awesome. Hey, guys.
- 8:53So The funny thing about my meeting with Darcy was the fact
- 8:56that he was standing behind me for a good 10 minutes trying to
- 9:00get Luke's attention, unsuccessfully, and not knowing
- 9:04who I was. That's funny.
- 9:07And then when we thinking about he's like, oh, I've seen you
- 9:10like for the past two days. I didn't know that that you were
- 9:14you so and I didn't know he was here.
- 9:16And you are his favorite and he's excellent.
- 9:19He's my favorite listener now. Yep.
- 9:21Oh, you heard me listeners. He's my favorite.
- 9:25Geez. Gotta pick it up.
- 9:28You're all my favorites. I've hugged multiple listeners
- 9:33now. OK, what?
- 9:34Let's not, let's not get. What?
- 9:35I've hugged multiple listeners, Hugged, hugged.
- 9:39I don't get weird you. Could have done 3 or 4.
- 9:42Whoa. Maybe five.
- 9:46I've not done 5 listeners. Let me put that out there.
- 9:49I've not done 5 listeners. No, I definitely haven't.
- 9:57What else you guys been doing? Luke's not prepared to talk
- 10:00about everything at PAX yet. PAX what else need to do?
- 10:03I went to the movies and saw a couple of movies.
- 10:07OK, I do want to talk about this.
- 10:09I saw the Naked gun. Oh, what do you think?
- 10:13It was, it was great. It was.
- 10:16Yeah. Like watching it was like
- 10:19watching the original. And I quite even quite like
- 10:22remember the they did a reboot of Walter Chevy Chase movie.
- 10:29Fletch. National Lampoon.
- 10:30Fletch. They did a reboot of that as
- 10:32well and I think Yep, they continued both of those series.
- 10:36That was really funny. I was surprised.
- 10:40I thought they're not going to, they're not going to nail
- 10:41Fletch. Who's in that?
- 10:45I was going to say Matt Hamm, Jon Hamm.
- 10:47Yep. Your brother.
- 10:50Yeah, yeah. Well, no, both, yeah, both of
- 10:53them. I reckon that there's a series
- 10:55there that they could continue again.
- 10:58Oh, Luke, hear me out. Stripes.
- 11:00Oh, that's. Going to be.
- 11:02Next, please. And he could be topical because
- 11:06I'm sure they're doing military drives, recruitment drives in
- 11:09America right now. Because no offence, Matt, but
- 11:11you guys are going to war, right?
- 11:13I don't know who with. I do not know.
- 11:15I honestly can't tell who with, but you're going to.
- 11:18Be anybody you're going to be. Shooting at someone, it could.
- 11:20Be anybody. Yeah, so I think a new stripes
- 11:22is warranted for sure. So you know what you could do
- 11:26against Murray? Play like the dual Sergeant or
- 11:28something, you know? Oh yeah, it could be the general
- 11:31that comes in at the end to look at the the weapons
- 11:34demonstration. As long as you checked his
- 11:35voicemail, he might do it. Yeah.
- 11:42The other movie I went and saw was Tron.
- 11:46I'm very interested to hear and Matt so.
- 11:47You saw Tron while it was still alive.
- 11:50Yeah, Was it alive? Murdered by Jared Leto,
- 11:54apparently. You see Tron what wasn't even
- 11:57dialled in child movie Tron earthing Jared Leto.
- 12:02Trump wasn't back. No, I heard that.
- 12:05Trump was not in it. No.
- 12:08Right. And the movie made zero sense,
- 12:10even less sense than it was made in the past.
- 12:13It was about Trump. Trump.
- 12:19The name of this episode? Sorry, yeah, let me just make a
- 12:21quick note of that. But the.
- 12:24Music in it was amazing. Yeah, that's what I've heard.
- 12:28I've heard that it's basically it's two out in music.
- 12:30That's fine. Yeah.
- 12:31Why don't we just listen to the soundtrack then?
- 12:33Oh, I mean. I still I have to get in.
- 12:35Yeah, fair enough. Yeah.
- 12:36I kind of want to see it. So now I'm like, OK, so it's
- 12:39doing atrociously at the box office to the point where
- 12:42apparently I don't know if this is true because who knows, But
- 12:44Disney apparently have have just said I'm going to we're going to
- 12:48bury the franchise at this point.
- 12:49And it's like, I, I think that's a little bit extreme just
- 12:52because you made a dud movie, but whatever they want to do.
- 12:56What did How did Trump legacy do?
- 12:59I mean I think better than this, but not not great.
- 13:02I. Don't think it did great either.
- 13:04No. So maybe Trump legacy I thought
- 13:07was good. I thought it was good as music.
- 13:09And that was. It's not perfect too.
- 13:12Yeah, no. No, no at.
- 13:13Least they had the right in it, the right music, the right
- 13:17amount of neon. Yeah, and I'm there, but.
- 13:20I mean Tron isn't that good either.
- 13:23Like it's good in a nostalgic way and it was kind of ground
- 13:26breaking special effects wise, but it's not like.
- 13:28Yes. Plot wise it's pretty podge
- 13:31like. The plot in all three movies
- 13:33makes zero sense. Somehow.
- 13:35Exactly. In the third one they managed to
- 13:38find out a way to bring them into the real world, but only
- 13:41for 29 minutes. Oh, I didn't know at a time.
- 13:44OK. And then they have.
- 13:46And then they then they die and then they can just bring them
- 13:49back again. And they're trying to poke, look
- 13:51at a way to have them permanently here.
- 13:53And it's sort of like that's like a.
- 13:54Really shit version of the Battlestar Galactica.
- 13:58Like Cylon 17 minute cycle thing but it's just like not as good.
- 14:05Yep. Yeah, don't.
- 14:07Don't bother. I've heard no, I will.
- 14:10I've heard it's visually good. Is that true?
- 14:13I've seen some of the shots I've seen look look really cool.
- 14:16No, I'm not impressed. No, I wasn't that impressed with
- 14:19that. All right.
- 14:20Because I was thinking maybe I should go see it in 3D because
- 14:22I'll never see that. Maybe what they're saying is
- 14:24that Jared Leto is very handsome, but he's not very good
- 14:27at acting. Well, this is he's been blamed
- 14:31for a lot of the failures of this.
- 14:32And there was a quite funny exchange I saw online where
- 14:37somebody, it was an article said they've spoken to an anonymous
- 14:40screenwriter from Disney who said that the film would have
- 14:44had the same issues with any actor.
- 14:45It's not Jared Leto's fault. Sure.
- 14:47And and then I saw a response from Gary Witter, who wrote
- 14:52films such as Rogue One and. And yeah, yeah, quite famous
- 14:55Screenwriter said not anonymous screenwriter from Disney here.
- 14:58And I can tell you that Jared Leto has had a serious effect on
- 15:01this film because people are avoiding it because he's in it.
- 15:04Yeah, I must admit, and I don't know when this started to
- 15:07happen, but I do cringe when I see that he's in a film.
- 15:11When people talk about the fact that movies, what's that?
- 15:15What's some good movie that he's been in?
- 15:18Oh look, I mean other than fighter.
- 15:19Club Fight Club. Yeah, but he's not the star of
- 15:24any of those, although I think he's not the star of this one
- 15:26either, but. Stuff.
- 15:29But it's. More the fact that people talk
- 15:31about now, the culty behaviour and the potential.
- 15:36I think that must be. It too like that girls are too
- 15:39young. People talk about this in a way
- 15:42that it's become yeah, he's, he's got like a yeah.
- 15:45He doesn't go, he doesn't actually go and see his movies.
- 15:48He goes and lives in the forest. That's the little.
- 15:52Line stuff that people think he's a douchebag because of.
- 15:54All that stuff too, the method acting, sending people used
- 15:56condoms and stuff like. Yeah, I mean, that's not.
- 15:58Don't like him? Right, that is not on.
- 16:01No, people just don't like him. How big a role does he play in
- 16:05Tron? He is.
- 16:09He's a star. Yeah, OK, so when you when you
- 16:13say it, the script wasn't good in the modern, not even a great
- 16:16movie. Anyway, hiring someone that
- 16:19nobody likes as the main character is probably.
- 16:21It doesn't help. Yeah, he starts off as the bad
- 16:24guy and then he becomes the good guy.
- 16:27Right. I think Gary Wood's point was
- 16:29that, yeah, like, yeah, sure, the script was bad, but like
- 16:31when you put someone who's people don't like in the movie,
- 16:34obviously has an effect. Yeah, like, yeah, yeah.
- 16:39Yeah, just just stop. That's why they.
- 16:42Tried TV? Ahead of movies.
- 16:43Yeah, there's plenty of movies with bad scripts that I fucking
- 16:46love. All right?
- 16:47So, you know, Yeah. And honestly, there are plenty
- 16:50of actors out there that. Yeah.
- 16:54If someone else should have done it, plenty of good actors it.
- 16:56Looked like any of us didn't call.
- 16:58Yeah, yeah, that'd be great. You guys want to be in Tron
- 17:01Aries? No, Yeah.
- 17:03No. No, not interested.
- 17:05No, just kidding. We're there.
- 17:07Yeah. Yep.
- 17:09Yeah, you want me in a movie? My own my own Neon.
- 17:13We saw the Tron bike at Pais I. Saw that that was there.
- 17:17And we're so uninterested, we didn't even sit on it.
- 17:21No, it was pretty cool. There was no line for us, like
- 17:25because the first time I saw it went, oh, they're just going to
- 17:27cordon off. No one can sit on it or touch
- 17:29it. No, no, just no line they
- 17:31wanted. No interest no one had.
- 17:33It I saw some influencer posted a video of them on it and I was
- 17:37like, oh, that back looks pretty cool to be honest, yeah.
- 17:39If you saw it up close. It did not.
- 17:41Yeah, it looks better on film than up close.
- 17:43But look, mind you, you should have taken pictures.
- 17:46Luke and I, Luke and I was were in both in cosplay.
- 17:49Matt, I don't know if you know this.
- 17:51We didn't. Take photos of this.
- 17:53No, we didn't really, did we? Other people took photos of us,
- 17:56a couple at least we've got. A couple.
- 18:00Yes, I see other couples came up to us and said.
- 18:05We know what you we. Noticed you guys across the room
- 18:07and we were wondering. I mean, that kind of is what
- 18:09happened. But but, but like more awkwardly
- 18:12and less sexually. It was more like I'm one of six
- 18:15people here that knows who you're dressed up as.
- 18:17Can I take a picture? Who were you dressed up as?
- 18:20You're going to tell me What? Do I have to figure it out?
- 18:22I did my normal Babylon 5. Oh, OK.
- 18:29And I was the 7th Doctor. Yep, OK.
- 18:32Doogie Howser, MD No Sylvester Mccoy's Doctor Who.
- 18:36Very cool. It was fun.
- 18:39Yeah, only a few people noticed. Yeah, because which that's the.
- 18:43Best way to do it, because also if you happen to know, yeah, but
- 18:47that's why I like my Doctor Who costume is because if you don't
- 18:49know who that is, you don't think I'm in costume.
- 18:51You just think that's the thing. Yeah, you could just be a person
- 18:53who dresses strangely and it's packs, so who gives?
- 18:55You actually there was one time I got called out for the oh,
- 18:59that's a great costume Marine and I'm sort of this is just my
- 19:02clothes. I'm Naked.
- 19:06I will admit I did win a a jacket fall out like Oh yeah, 76
- 19:12jacket. So I was wearing Jack and
- 19:14they've gone. That's a great, close play, you
- 19:16know? Yeah.
- 19:18Aaron, I just got this. I got this over there.
- 19:21Yeah. That was a lucky win too,
- 19:23because they only had that one size right and it was just a
- 19:27case of. Benefits because sometimes if
- 19:29there's a competition, Luke will just stand in front of them and
- 19:32refuse to move until they give him the prize.
- 19:35I mean, do the story of that's all you really have to do.
- 19:38Oh, I wish I knew where the photo was.
- 19:41There was a signing that was happening at 2:30.
- 19:43I just happened to be standing there at the time.
- 19:45So I was like third in line, right.
- 19:48So I got a signature. I got a photo with this with
- 19:51with this girl. I have no idea who her who she
- 19:54is but posted on sex lost control.
- 19:58Oh shit, bloody hell, now I can't quite see where that it
- 20:03looks. Is it just graffitied or does it
- 20:04Is it tie in with something? Little skull I don't know is.
- 20:09She like a voice actor or something?
- 20:11No, I I honestly have no idea she was she was meant to be
- 20:17signing with Remember the old the guy from Good Game.
- 20:22Yeah, Barger. Yeah, she was meant to be
- 20:25signing with him, but he was sick, so it was only her there.
- 20:28So I don't know, they've got a project or something happening,
- 20:31but I wish she was there. And I went, yeah, I'll take
- 20:33that. It's not Steph, right?
- 20:35You know that that's. Not Steph.
- 20:36No. Yeah, yeah, no.
- 20:37She was there, though. She was there.
- 20:40Yeah, yeah, yeah. I did that in an audition once.
- 20:42I was gonna say you were an audition.
- 20:43You've met her. I know you've met her.
- 20:44Yes, yes. Luke hates her so.
- 20:47Does he? Yeah, he hates.
- 20:48Her. Well, I applied to be on that
- 20:50show. I was rejected, so screw that.
- 20:52By her. By her, Yeah, yeah.
- 20:54They were like, it's down to Luke or this beautiful woman.
- 21:01I would have been. Great on good game because they
- 21:03spoke down to people and I did not like that.
- 21:06Yeah, it was very condescending. Yeah, I did that at an audition
- 21:11once, Luke. I arrived at an audition.
- 21:13So this enormous line and. And the guy right there was like
- 21:17back of the line, buddy. And I was like, oh, and I walked
- 21:20all the way up, stood at the very end, and then a guy with a
- 21:22clipboard came out. Right.
- 21:23Right. You in number one?
- 21:25I was like. OK.
- 21:30Yeah, I did get some free stuff. I got like some yeah, jackets,
- 21:34controllers, pins, just my normal.
- 21:39Pens. I got a mouse pad which I threw
- 21:42in the bin. See also why we were making fun
- 21:48of. We were making fun of people
- 21:50really not knowing our cosplay. There was so much cosplay there
- 21:53that we have no idea who they are.
- 21:56No, some anime we haven't seen, yeah.
- 21:59Yeah. Yeah, well, there's a lot.
- 22:03Only only ever more and more things that we haven't seen,
- 22:06yeah. Because ain't that.
- 22:07True, I've been watching stuff, but it's not new stuff.
- 22:10You've been watching some some really old stuff.
- 22:13I've been watching some really old stuff.
- 22:14Well, before we get to that, I have been watching some.
- 22:16Just really quickly. I watched.
- 22:17I know something that I know Luke has watched.
- 22:18I don't know if Dan's watched. I watched 28 Years Later.
- 22:20Oh. I haven't watched it.
- 22:23And I will say this, it's very good.
- 22:26OK, then gets very weird. Then it gets fucking weird, man.
- 22:30I don't know what's going on so, but I'm excited to see what's
- 22:32happening. I do want to watch this, but I
- 22:34must say I I have to make time to go back and watch 28 weeks
- 22:37later because as opposed to 28 days later which I saw dozens of
- 22:40times, I've only seen that one once.
- 22:42Didn't. Remember it?
- 22:44Yeah, it didn't. Didn't.
- 22:45But you don't really. Honestly, no.
- 22:47Yes, it doesn't matter because I feel like unless.
- 22:49I'm mistaken. The they've changed this, the
- 22:54the direction that this has gone is kind of odd in a way.
- 22:57It's not it's not really a spoiler the way that they've
- 22:59treated the they do call them zombies a little bit now, OK.
- 23:03And it's got almost like video game stuff about the zombies
- 23:07where there's like alpha zombies and and things in a way that
- 23:11are. Smarter and.
- 23:13Yeah, and it's cool. It's just, it's just quite
- 23:16different to 28 Days Later but. Yeah, like I think you don't
- 23:19have to see either of them to enjoy this movie.
- 23:24No, it gives you a little recap. Very.
- 23:26There are zombies. The UK has now been.
- 23:30It's a no go zone. So if you live there, you live
- 23:32there. You can't go.
- 23:34Yeah. It's got more of a.
- 23:35Fantasy ending still is just Power Rangers arrive.
- 23:40It's really strange. It's really strange.
- 23:43I hope you're being literal because if the Power Rangers
- 23:46don't arrive. I'm old lady doesn't.
- 23:48Make my monster grow, then I'm going to be very.
- 23:51I knew that the ending was weird.
- 23:53Luke had mentioned it and I knew broadly what?
- 23:55Like, I kind of knew what happened because I've seen
- 23:57people discussing online and still watching it.
- 23:59I was like, what? What?
- 24:01Oh, I can't wait. I can't.
- 24:02What? Yeah.
- 24:04Look, before we go on to what you watched Matt and I do.
- 24:06I really want to hear about this and and quiz you further, but I
- 24:09just want to bring up quickly, Luke, when you told me the other
- 24:13day that you would watch The Naked Gun, yes, I immediately
- 24:18just thought to myself, I've got to rewatch Police Squad and fuck
- 24:22me. Oh yeah.
- 24:23We did that up. Forgetting there's only 6
- 24:25episodes of. This I know.
- 24:26Isn't it crazy? Like, it's incredible that
- 24:28there's so few episodes. They're very funny.
- 24:31It's a little bit hit and miss. They reuse quite a few of the
- 24:35same gags throughout the six episodes, and sometimes it's
- 24:39funny that they keep coming back and sometimes it's like, no,
- 24:41you've used that one. Did you forget?
- 24:44Did you forget you made that joke last episode I.
- 24:46Did that's why they went through your TV show?
- 24:50I think that's why they went from the TV show to the movies,
- 24:54because. Yeah.
- 24:56You could say a little bit longer.
- 24:58The Leslie Nielsen plays a character Frank Dreven.
- 25:04Yeah, in in the police squad and he plays a completely different
- 25:07character also named Frank Dreven in the films.
- 25:10They're not the same character. You know, the character in the
- 25:13films is getting fucking fallen over shit.
- 25:15And like he plays it so deadpan in police Squad and so does is
- 25:21it Alan N his other his Lieutenant?
- 25:25Yeah. They're deliveries to one
- 25:27another like they're not. It's like no one told them they
- 25:30were in a comment. I think I like the show more the
- 25:33the movies. I love the movies but the show I
- 25:35think is just is is just perfection.
- 25:38And anytime it's just them two, it's like I I texted you guys
- 25:41the other night because I was in literal tears when he was like,
- 25:44he got married one child that didn't work out.
- 25:46So we married a full grown woman and I was fucking.
- 25:49That's such great dialogue. Yeah.
- 25:52You would not get away with that on today.
- 25:55No. And like, it's just so like all
- 25:59the site gags and stuff because we watched after we watched the
- 26:01movie, we watched a couple episodes and it was the one
- 26:03where they poses the locksmiths to like to bust the mafia crime
- 26:09bosses who are like shaking people down for protection
- 26:10money. And then there's just like this
- 26:12bit where he's trying to do a key and it just flies off
- 26:15camera. And then and then just later on,
- 26:17it's because of why shut? It's just all these keys stuck
- 26:19in the roof. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:20It's like just all these little and like.
- 26:22Anytime someone shuts the door too hard, keys just fall down.
- 26:25From. The roof, it's so funny.
- 26:28It's. Very funny, super good.
- 26:30That's what, look, I know we're not going to get the show again,
- 26:32but I hope we do get more movies because I think that there's
- 26:36more movies the way this went, and Leslie Lee Neeson did a
- 26:40fantastic job. Cooper Yeah.
- 26:43Yeah, I think. I wonder if his little scene on
- 26:48Was it Life's Too Short? I wonder if that got him this,
- 26:51because I would. Never have picked him.
- 26:54Yeah, I would never liked him to be able to do it, but then he
- 26:56was so funny in that scene and life's too short.
- 27:01I got it from a well known homosexual actor.
- 27:05You can't say that. Fine, I got.
- 27:07It we could change the. I'm so good with AIDS.
- 27:14I riddled with it, riddled with it.
- 27:20Selling her body was her only recourse.
- 27:23OK, right. If I could just lighten the
- 27:25we're. Doing this again, aren't we?
- 27:29You can't say stuff like that. Why can he?
- 27:32We don't know. We don't.
- 27:36I've watched six more James Bond movies.
- 27:40Amazing. How are you?
- 27:41Finding time for this like that was just insane.
- 27:44My first. Christmas there because I can
- 27:46kind of pop them on when I get a minute, like, and watch half an
- 27:50hour to an hour of it and I'm OK, yeah, you know, to pick it
- 27:53up, coming back later to finish it off.
- 27:54Because it's not, you know, when I get to Shakespeare, like when
- 27:58I get to Casino Royale, I'm going to sit down and I'm just
- 28:01going to watch it because I fucking love that movie.
- 28:03And there've been some of these. Well, like I've said before,
- 28:05when I started to watch From Russia With Love, I stopped and
- 28:09I was like, I'm going to sit down and watch this one because
- 28:11I really like it. So it's happened a couple of
- 28:12times. And do you know, so I won't
- 28:15spend too long because it's a lot of movies I watched Diamonds
- 28:18Are Forever Living, Let Die, All the Roger Moore ones up until
- 28:24now, I've seen For Your Eyes Only.
- 28:27I've watched quite a few and. Thunderball.
- 28:29Moonraker. Thunderball was earlier.
- 28:32That was Connery before. What am I thinking of?
- 28:35You're thinking of Oh no, I'm thinking me and Rica.
- 28:38Are you getting close with the? Girls in Bron.
- 28:41Yeah, well, he's got. He's got a whole other, He's got
- 28:43a whole other Bond who? Did two never say never again
- 28:46with Conor Ray coming back? Yes.
- 28:48I got to watch that and then I've got Octopussy.
- 28:51Matt, do you know who choreographed the fight scenes
- 28:54in Never Say Never Again? I don't I know who that.
- 28:58'D be. That'd be sensei Steven Seagal.
- 29:01Fuck off. Are you serious?
- 29:03I'm so excited to watch then there's so much interesting Bond
- 29:06trivia. We we could do a whole episode
- 29:08on it. I don't want to, but there's
- 29:09just so many interesting, like every.
- 29:11I'll be watching the movies and something weird will happen.
- 29:14Yeah. And you're like, the fuck is
- 29:15that? And you look it up and there's
- 29:16always some interesting horseshit, you know, like behind
- 29:20the scenes thing. It's like, like for example, the
- 29:23the this is the most recent one in my mind.
- 29:26For your eyes only, right? Moonraker happens and then
- 29:30Fioris only is next and then. So Moonraker is obviously.
- 29:33Fioris only is one of those titles that I it it doesn't
- 29:36instantly connote the plot for me.
- 29:38Remind me which one that is? It's the one.
- 29:40So it it was a return to a more grounded story about they've got
- 29:44this targeted weapon weapon system that gets like it, it
- 29:50something happens and then they lose track of it.
- 29:52And then the they're trying to stop all the other governments
- 29:54from getting control of this system because then they could
- 29:56make them shoot all the weapons at each other or no world
- 29:59defense systems are it's like a very grounded like spy thriller.
- 30:03If you had to say it's the one with what it's.
- 30:06The one with it's the one with BB, the I, the skiing girl who's
- 30:11too young and Bond won't have sex with her, It's that.
- 30:14Right. OK, too young.
- 30:16If I have to mention, yeah, he's the one with the intro, it's the
- 30:19one with the intro. I'm going to tell you about
- 30:20that. That is very memorable.
- 30:22So you had Moonraker, which got ridiculous.
- 30:24It got really ridiculous at the end.
- 30:27Yeah, I love it. I think it's great, but he can
- 30:29they go into space and there's a space station and then all of a
- 30:32sudden everybody's got fucking laser guns for no reason.
- 30:35There's they never mention it. Everyone just if.
- 30:37This happened to come out the year of Star Wars.
- 30:39Is it Like, what else was that that year?
- 30:41Yeah. Yeah, it's got Jaws is in it.
- 30:44Jaws is the the villain. Oh, he's exactly the same
- 30:47character. He's just he.
- 30:49Was a Spielberg Lucas? Tribute he's he's just murders
- 30:53people and then Bonnie. Just said clarify Luke, Jaws is
- 30:55not the name of the shark I know.
- 31:02John Jaws even in in the movie someone says who's that?
- 31:08And then Bond says, oh, that's George.
- 31:10He kills people, right? That's his character is that
- 31:12he's got metal teeth and he fucking kills people.
- 31:14But then at the end of Moonraker, because the bad guy
- 31:19is trying to basically he's a Nazi and he's taken all the
- 31:22beautiful people to space to make, to repopulate the Earth.
- 31:25He's going to kill everybody with this nerve gas, right?
- 31:27That's the plot of Moonraker. He's built this space station,
- 31:30fly up there in these space shuttles, have laser battles and
- 31:33he's going to wipe out the Earth and repopulate it.
- 31:36And then he says only the most perfect people will be allowed
- 31:39to exist now and that. And then Bond is like saying to
- 31:42Jaws, you think you'll be part of this.
- 31:45And then Jaws all of a sudden because of that is now a good
- 31:48guy, right? Not just like self interested.
- 31:51He literally is now a good guy and sacrifices himself to save
- 31:55James Bond. Like it just gets so ridiculous.
- 31:58That reminds you of a book by Ben Elton Stark where he's going
- 32:03to, They're all going to. All the rich people are going to
- 32:06leave Earth and they're going to basically just dump oil and
- 32:10destroy the Earth, so. Lego, that's the plot of
- 32:13Moonraker. But anyway, so it got it gets
- 32:15really ridiculous. So like I said, laser battles
- 32:16and and and nonsense. And then they were like, what do
- 32:22we do now? And they also apparently after
- 32:26that Roger Moore had signed on for three.
- 32:28He'd done 3. He'd done Moonraker as like a
- 32:33kind of contract on a per film basis.
- 32:36He'd said, yeah, I'll do Moonraker.
- 32:38And they were like, is he going to do another one?
- 32:41Do we want to replace him? So they start looking around for
- 32:44people to replace Roger Moore. They talk to Timothy Dalton.
- 32:47They offer it to Timothy Dalton. And he says, no, the movies are
- 32:52fucking ridiculous. I'm I'm not doing that.
- 32:54If I was to do James Bond, it would be like the books, right?
- 32:59And so they're like, OK, we need to pivot back.
- 33:02So for your eyes only is more grounded.
- 33:05It's like a political thriller. It's got this scene at the start
- 33:09and it's so Roger Moore eventually after he gets the
- 33:11shits because he finds out they're they're auditioning new
- 33:15people, says fuck you. I'm not doing another one.
- 33:17They Yeah. Fair enough.
- 33:19They pay him enough to talk him into it because they can't find
- 33:21anyone. Yeah, not the only time I've
- 33:24done that either. Yeah, so the opening of your
- 33:26eyes only Bond visits the grave of his dead wife from.
- 33:31Oh. From his from.
- 33:34His Secret Service. Yeah, Tracy visits the grave.
- 33:36He's visiting the grave of his wife.
- 33:38The the priest comes over and says, you they're sending a
- 33:42helicopter for you. They said it's an emergency.
- 33:44And he's like, well, yes, that happens.
- 33:46And then so this helicopter comes and then he gets in the
- 33:48helicopter and then he sees the priest doing this and he goes
- 33:50fuck. And then it's Blofeld remote
- 33:54controlling the helicopter, right?
- 33:56And it's it's fucking insane. But and so he's like it and it
- 34:03but they can't say blow felt. It's basically you see someone
- 34:06in a wheelchair, bald with a neck brace on.
- 34:09So it's clearly he survived on Her Majesty's Secret Service and
- 34:12he's trying to go harvest a bond.
- 34:14I've got you now. And he's like remote controlling
- 34:16this helicopter precariously around for some reason, not just
- 34:20killing him. Not just gone straight to the
- 34:21ground, yeah. Yeah, not just, well, not just
- 34:23fucking shooting him like for. Sure.
- 34:25Yeah, infinite ways you could have murdered him.
- 34:27But anyway, so Bond manages to get into the pilot seat,
- 34:32disconnect the thing, and then he scoops Blofeld up on the
- 34:35prongs of the helicopter because for some reason Bofeld doesn't
- 34:40have any hench men with him or whatever.
- 34:42And then? Just hang in there, yeah?
- 34:44As they're flying through the air, with Blofeld stuck on the
- 34:48prongs of the helicopter, Blofeld says I'll make you a
- 34:51deal. I'll buy you a delicatessen in
- 34:53stainless steel. Remember that line?
- 34:56Yes. What do not remember?
- 34:59You never heard about this? When he said it, I was like, oh
- 35:01fuck, I've heard about this. It's apparently it's some mafia
- 35:03thing. Oh.
- 35:05Like it's because like. Cutting cold meats, something.
- 35:08Like delicatessen is like a food preparation thing and apparently
- 35:11some mafia thing is like I'll cut you a deal by your destiny.
- 35:15Stainless steel. Like it's like the quality
- 35:18kitchen, but but like now it just sounds like insanity.
- 35:21Like what? The fuck is he talking about?
- 35:23Yeah. Dumps him into a chimney.
- 35:26Blofeld's done with. And apparently the whole point
- 35:28of that was some one of the other producers owns the rights
- 35:32to Thunderball and therefore Spectre and therefore Blofeld.
- 35:36So this, the whole intro to the movie was we're going to
- 35:40introduce a new actor as James Bond.
- 35:42Didn't happen. We're gonna.
- 35:44Remove the old. We're gonna remove all the.
- 35:48We don't need that shit anymore. Yeah.
- 35:50Dumping down a chimney. This is a message.
- 35:51Fuck you. We don't need your fucking
- 35:53property. Intellectual property.
- 35:55Yeah. So this this just weird thing at
- 35:56the start. And then it's like, OK, serious
- 35:59spider. Movie.
- 36:00Now this is the one with the the smuggler on the boat, right?
- 36:04The guy with the mustache? Yep.
- 36:05Yes, you get shot, it'll hit the girl, it's the woman.
- 36:09So it apparently the the idea of it was that Bond meets this
- 36:14woman who he can't have sex with because she's so driven by
- 36:17revenge. I was like that because she is
- 36:19so young. That's the other.
- 36:23That's the other woman in the movie, right?
- 36:25Yeah. But but yeah, the whole what?
- 36:26He got to draw the other woman. Yeah.
- 36:28Who does he? He's gonna have to do his job,
- 36:30Luke. There's no time in.
- 36:34This, you know what? Roger Moore cracks me up.
- 36:36There's so many times in the Roger Moore ones where he
- 36:38literally gets fucking caught because he'll walk into a
- 36:41volcano like a secret base with some villain and then some
- 36:44woman's like, and he's like, yeah, fuck it.
- 36:47Oh yeah, what? He walks in this literally just
- 36:49walks into a trap because like a woman's doing this like.
- 36:54Too funny. Also he is very rapey,
- 36:58especially in the early ones. I forget that because I always
- 37:01think Connery is the rapist. So Connery has a very funny
- 37:05moment in Diamonds Are Forever. Connery is intentionally.
- 37:10Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 37:12And the start of Diamonds are forever and the start of
- 37:15Diamonds are forever. He's looking for Blofeld because
- 37:17his wife's been murdered and he's like beating up all these
- 37:19people. Where the fuck is Blofeld?
- 37:21And then he there's this bit where he walks up to this pool.
- 37:23You don't know who this person is.
- 37:25They've never met this woman's there in a bikini.
- 37:27And she goes, who are you? And he goes, my name's Bond,
- 37:30James Bond. And then he, like, sits down
- 37:32next to him and she goes, can I help you with something?
- 37:34And he goes, it's something I'd like you to get off your chest.
- 37:37Rips the top off. She's with it and says where our
- 37:41clock is, Blurfeld. She's like, I'm just a lady at
- 37:47the pool mate. Yeah, yes.
- 37:50Matt, your favorite part of Diamonds Are Forever, though, is
- 37:52this. He's hiding.
- 37:58Yeah. Such a mixed bag because it's
- 38:02also got you have the 2 gay hit men.
- 38:05Yes, that's right. Bruce Glover the 2 gay hit men
- 38:07and their theme the is so good. Yeah, that like I don't know,
- 38:15it's such a mixed. Bag They creeped me out when I
- 38:17was a kid. Like I know people say that's
- 38:19that's the worst. Like what?
- 38:20The worst Connery? No, they're good, but.
- 38:23But when I was a kid, I thought those dudes were fucking creepy.
- 38:26Not because they're they. Are they're interesting?
- 38:27They're not made for children. Yeah, no.
- 38:32And then because they're not like, they don't come out and
- 38:35say, like this is a gay couple or anything, but they just, they
- 38:38say things like, you know. Oh, yeah, she's quite pretty, if
- 38:40you're into that, that kind of thing.
- 38:41Like they make little clips like that.
- 38:43And it's just, I don't know, it's very like, subversive for
- 38:45the time. I think.
- 38:46I like that they did that, yeah. Yeah.
- 38:49Yeah. But you kind of remember, like,
- 38:51this was back in the time when we were watching movies that
- 38:54were way too old for us, and that was OK because it was the
- 38:5680s. Was it the early 90s?
- 38:58Particularly the broader, more ones.
- 39:00So in in Living Let Die. It's got what's her name who
- 39:03played Doctor Quinn? She's Jane Solitaire, Jane
- 39:06Seymour. She plays Solitaire the the the
- 39:09psychic woman who works for. Who he tricks into having sex
- 39:13with her. Yeah, like, literally like he
- 39:16says to her, oh, you believe in tarot cards, right?
- 39:18You do whatever they say, wouldn't you?
- 39:20And she's like, yes, of course. And then he like has a deck that
- 39:22basically all the cards are the lovers.
- 39:24And so he's just like, well, you know, we have to fuck.
- 39:26And she's. Like yes, we have to.
- 39:28And she's like, I can't, I can't, I'm a virgin, I'll lose
- 39:30my powers. And he's like the Cards said.
- 39:33Yeah, that's right. So and then afterwards, he's he,
- 39:38he goes, by the way, I might have, I might have rigged, lied
- 39:42about that. Yeah.
- 39:43And she goes, oh, it doesn't matter now.
- 39:44Yeah. Yeah, because she's she like,
- 39:47because. I'll be killed.
- 39:48Yeah. I'm useless now to my but.
- 39:51He's yeah, he's very, yeah. Because I was like, oh, that's.
- 39:56Can't do that. He tricks him.
- 39:59He does it's a bunch of times and then also he'll like he'll
- 40:03like sleep with them and then pull a gun on them because
- 40:05they're the villain. He does that a couple of times.
- 40:07Where? He waits, you wait.
- 40:09Dude, like yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:14But I guess at the time audiences didn't see it as
- 40:17rapey. They just was like, oh, got me,
- 40:19got me. Yeah, he's just.
- 40:21He's. Just.
- 40:22He's just seducing them. Yeah.
- 40:24Like that's, yeah, that's how you get women.
- 40:29You trick him? Yeah, Yeah.
- 40:32I mean, you got to trick him a little bit.
- 40:35I'm enjoying them. Yeah, definitely.
- 40:39Always. Oh yeah, I got to say too, Roger
- 40:41Moore, I know he is well dressed for the time, but he is.
- 40:46He got the rough edge because. It's the 70s.
- 40:49Style. Yeah, because you go from
- 40:51Connery. Connery's like the suit Connery
- 40:54wears in Goldfinger. Yeah, he's just.
- 40:56You could wear it now. Amazing.
- 40:58Yeah, exactly it. It just holds up.
- 41:00It's like timeless. He looks fucking awesome.
- 41:03You could literally go buy that suit right now and you'd look
- 41:05sick. Roger Moore has very few
- 41:08outfits. Thanks, Claire.
- 41:10Now and not look fucking insane. Yeah.
- 41:12We could do. It Let's give it a go.
- 41:14Yeah, he'd probably pick it off, yeah.
- 41:18All about confidence. He's also drives the Lotus which
- 41:22is of it's time. In a way.
- 41:23Yes as well you could. The DB 5 still looks cool.
- 41:27The Lotus is like. Would you remember in the, in
- 41:31the Brosnan bonds, they, they, they ditch all those
- 41:35sponsorships again? BMW, it's nice in the first
- 41:38movie because they've got the Z3 and then after that he basically
- 41:41just stripes a family sedan. Yeah, he's got like the three
- 41:44series. Yeah, BMWs.
- 41:46They basically found the just because they lost even a sport
- 41:49it's cut into storage and then someone just purchased a storage
- 41:54locker because they stopped paying for it and was the Lotus
- 41:57from the movie. Really.
- 41:59Yes, that's cool. Storage walls.
- 42:03I think they rebuilt it, right? What's?
- 42:07That what's that? It got blown up.
- 42:09It gets blown up a couple times I think.
- 42:12But doesn't it turn into a boat or go?
- 42:13Away. Yeah, it's a submarine.
- 42:16Yes, that's right. Christ was introduced.
- 42:19Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and he's in Italy or
- 42:22something. Yeah, there's also the gondola
- 42:26that inexplicably turns into a car for, like, no good reason.
- 42:30Yeah, because he just drives up and then drives off, and then
- 42:32it's never in the movie again. It's like he could have just
- 42:34stepped off it onto the onto the dock.
- 42:37Like he didn't need to have it do that.
- 42:40Yeah. Oh, and that one little Easter
- 42:43egg I sent you guys the video of that I obviously hadn't picked
- 42:46up on when I was young is in Moonraker when he punches the
- 42:50code in to get into where they're developing the.
- 42:52Nerves. It's the close Encounters.
- 42:57Musically funny. Hate that movie.
- 42:58That blew my mind. Yeah, it's an amazing movie.
- 43:02Horrible movie. Name one other movie that has a
- 43:05Mashed potato mountain in it. That's one of the reasons why I
- 43:09hate the movie. Idiot from UHF.
- 43:12Yeah, that one episode of The Simpsons.
- 43:16This whole 10 minute thing just makes sense.
- 43:18Melted at a potato? How is that good viewing it's?
- 43:24Incredible. Him and everyone else, they're
- 43:27drawn to this place. Oh man, It's got that classic
- 43:30Spielberg thing where you just, he stays on their face as they
- 43:33go up and see, and then it doesn't turn to the very end.
- 43:36Then you see what they're looking at.
- 43:37Oh, it's classic. Spielberg got lucky.
- 43:40He's speaking with Jaws. Spielberg got lucky with Jaws.
- 43:45I don't know man, because duels would have been.
- 43:47A different movie, George would have been a different movie if
- 43:51the shark had have worked. George the shark's name was
- 43:53George George from Jaws. Yeah.
- 43:58Yep, if that, if George had have worked the way they wanted,
- 44:01would have been a different movie and would not have been as
- 44:03good. His name is Bruce, right?
- 44:05Actually, Bruce. Yeah, thinking.
- 44:06About it, yeah. No, it was big chap, Matt.
- 44:08Big chap. His name was Bruce on set, so
- 44:12you've got to call him Bruce. That's how these.
- 44:14That's canonical. Yeah, that's his fucking name.
- 44:17Yeah, the Predator in Predator is named Jean-Claude Van Damme.
- 44:21OK. Oh man.
- 44:28Anyway, yeah, so Bond, I'll keep watching him and I'll report
- 44:31back if anything else is interesting.
- 44:32Speaking of reporting back. You don't care about James Bond.
- 44:35No, I care about him, care about him deeply.
- 44:39I'm very, very keen to see where they take the franchise.
- 44:43Yes, same. I'll.
- 44:46Hold my breath. I'm fucking excited for Danny to
- 44:49be doing a Bond film. I hope.
- 44:50It would be fun again. You know what looks fucking fun
- 44:54is the fucking Double O 7 video game that we're getting in a
- 44:57couple of months. Bring that on.
- 45:00Yeah, when is that? In fact, because I need
- 45:03something to play, I purchased Shadows, but I haven't really
- 45:06played it. That's why.
- 45:10Catching up on so many games at the moment is crazy.
- 45:15Coming out? When is it coming out?
- 45:17This next year, Oh. March 2026?
- 45:20That's not good news. Yep.
- 45:21That's that's too far. That is way too far.
- 45:24What games are still coming out this year?
- 45:27Out of Worlds 2. No, you don't.
- 45:29Oh, yeah. Hey, look, Speaking of games, we
- 45:32should probably talk about the Xbox a bit.
- 45:34Oh yeah. Make Luke, Luke, Luke.
- 45:35There's some hope for you. Well, let me.
- 45:37Just comment on this too because.
- 45:41Oh, OK. We went to there was an Xbox
- 45:43booth that packed, which there hasn't been an actual booth
- 45:45there in a while. That's true.
- 45:47And like we, we can't comment with any authority.
- 45:50It's just that there was a conspicuous lack of something in
- 45:53the booth. Do you want to guess what it is?
- 45:56Yes. Yeah.
- 45:57Right. And the whole point of it was
- 46:00they have York, they have pictures of a laptop and they go
- 46:03this is an Xbox. And then they have that little
- 46:05dongle and they say this is an Xbox and.
- 46:08Yeah, that's why it's so weird that they, like, they literally
- 46:12saying they're not, they don't, consoles don't matter anymore.
- 46:15But then they've come out and they've said no, no, no, we're
- 46:17committed to Xbox hardware. This people, you know, these
- 46:19reports of us exiting. False.
- 46:23Yeah, you're not. They have.
- 46:24They have, they've always confirmed there's going to be at
- 46:26least one more physical like Xbox that's coming out.
- 46:30But they are preparing for the future where, yeah, you don't
- 46:33need the hardware and it's just all going to be streaming.
- 46:36It's just you got to wait for the world to be able to handle
- 46:38that. Yeah.
- 46:40Mm, hmm. Mm hmm.
- 46:42Yeah, because there was also this week people over here
- 46:45saying other stores like Walmart and Target also no longer have
- 46:50any Xbox stuff. And Microsoft has come out and
- 46:52denied that as well and said that was just a coincidence,
- 46:55like, and then but people who work there said no, no, no,
- 46:59Microsoft doesn't pay for display space anymore the way
- 47:03that the others do. So we're not going to they're
- 47:06not going to put the stuff out. And it's like, oh, OK, I didn't
- 47:08realize that they had to pay for their stuff to be in shops.
- 47:11They. Get to play their new handheld.
- 47:14Yes, we did. That's not theirs though.
- 47:16No, it's not theirs, but my God, it's amazing.
- 47:21Yeah. Right, I I I found it too big.
- 47:23I found it too big. It was.
- 47:25I found it perfect. I had to make my hands.
- 47:27Further apart than I'd like to have.
- 47:30And I mine arrived in. I'm not.
- 47:33Used to holding something that big, you know what I mean?
- 47:35Mine arrived in 12 days. Hey.
- 47:39Oh fuck. All right.
- 47:41Yep. I'm, well, it's good because
- 47:44it's like you're playing it and it's the same as like an Xbox.
- 47:47So if I want, it's got the quick play.
- 47:48So if I want to switch the game quickly, I can just do that.
- 47:52And I was able to switch. Like 4 to 5 to Indiana Jones,
- 47:55like in an instant. I can do that on on my absolute.
- 47:59So I'm not interested. But can you install it?
- 48:05Well, I don't need to because I can play games that I have
- 48:10installed on my Xbox. Yeah, but this I can install
- 48:15straight on, so I don't need to worry about having to have Wi-Fi
- 48:18or hotspot off my phone. I can just play it.
- 48:22Yeah, true, true, true, true. Any games that don't require you
- 48:25to be online, which we'll see. Yep.
- 48:30No, I'm looking forward to it. I'm excited for it.
- 48:32And I was right. They're aiming.
- 48:34They're aiming for the future. Yeah, all the.
- 48:36Circular evidence points, but here's the thing.
- 48:39Look, if you wanted a classic console like say a Nintendo,
- 48:44like an S, you'd want to buy a console, you'd want to buy the
- 48:48controllers and you'd want to buy a bunch of carts as well so
- 48:51that you could play them. Games aren't like that anymore.
- 48:54It's like movies aren't like that.
- 48:56Like if, if, if Xbox said no, it's just fucking download an
- 48:59app onto your smart TV and then just boot up the the interface
- 49:04like you would. It's like, well, I don't care if
- 49:05there's a box there or not. I just want my account logged in
- 49:08with the stuff I've paid for got going for them.
- 49:11If you look at PCs and the controllers you people buy for
- 49:15them, they're not buying Sony controllers, they're buying the
- 49:19basic Xbox controllers to plug in.
- 49:22The Sony controllers suck. Yeah, I've been playing some.
- 49:27PlayStation 5 stuff and what have you been controllers kind
- 49:31of like? I've been playing Gran Turismo
- 49:33and I've been playing Silent Hill 2.
- 49:37I do. Want to Yeah, yeah, the.
- 49:39Sound is very good. I'm very.
- 49:41Envious of anyone who can play silent.
- 49:43Hill too. Have you been playing GT in VR?
- 49:47I've I have played it in. VR generally no, because it's
- 49:51it's a hassle to set it up and if I've got time to play, I just
- 49:55want to play. I don't want to have to plugging
- 49:58all that in. So.
- 49:59So it's not. So much better.
- 50:01That you're like, fuck, I'm missing out.
- 50:03I've got to put, I've got to get the headset.
- 50:07Well, so. The GT greater is more when I'm
- 50:11playing usually. Like if I want to just make some
- 50:14money so I can buy a new car or parts or whatever, I just want
- 50:16to play, I'll just jump in and do a race on the TVI don't worry
- 50:19about it. Yeah, but yeah, and you know,
- 50:20you've got a good TV and you've got good speakers and all of.
- 50:23That so yeah. Well, I I use the headphones
- 50:25anyway. So it's a good experience, yeah.
- 50:29Is there I was thinking about. This the other day because I.
- 50:31Don't play any. Of the F1 games, never played an
- 50:35F1 on the Omega like since then, but is there a retro F1 game
- 50:41where you can play like Monza 1965 like you know, in the in
- 50:45the like old timey cars and stuff, because I would play the
- 50:47shit out of that. I don't know.
- 50:51I think so do play the F1 games and I think.
- 50:54Sometimes do have like flashback races where you are playing
- 50:58right? Like you like the six wheel.
- 51:02Yeah, Formula One cars. Yeah.
- 51:05Oh, the. Real.
- 51:06That was really long while. Yeah.
- 51:10That's some Formula One. News it's.
- 51:13Funny and. You think Formula One cars
- 51:15always kind? Of looked like that and then you
- 51:17go here's 1 from 1995 and one from now and you're like holy
- 51:20shit yeah they they get paid at times look at the.
- 51:23Ones from like the very. Very early ones, they were like
- 51:27just really long monster cars that killed people, yeah.
- 51:34Stole their souls yeah OK went weird and.
- 51:37Transformed in the robots. And at the end of the race
- 51:41they'd interview the car and he'd say I'll did my best.
- 51:47Some F1 news just. Quickly, Apple has purchased the
- 51:51exclusive rights to stream F1 in the US.
- 51:56It'll be the only place you can watch Formula One in the US next
- 52:01year for for four years, and you're gonna have to pay more.
- 52:05Or do you just? Need Apple TV to watch?
- 52:07It's included in Apple TV, so technically.
- 52:09I'll be paying less because I already have.
- 52:12That yet so. And I already got an e-mail from
- 52:15the F1 TV thing that I subscribed to saying, sorry,
- 52:18we're done, we're going away. It's just like, fuck, all right,
- 52:21that's happening, but you're just, you're actually.
- 52:24Just saving money for a change, yeah, yeah, I mean the F1 it's.
- 52:29What like I think it's 80 bucks a year, which I mean into like
- 52:33it sounds, I guess it's a lot, but I mean compared to like
- 52:36buying a space, it's not when you in Australia, if you want to
- 52:38watch it, you have to. Get it's not that bad and it's
- 52:4120 kaos in kaos some yeah Ko is saving. $80 a year so.
- 52:46They always want to use and the only.
- 52:48Saving grace about KO is that they absolutely do not mind you
- 52:51cancelling and then pick it up later.
- 52:54Yeah, there's no, no, because all because they know the second
- 52:57point. The NRL starts, I get it, the
- 53:00second it finishes I can't slip and then once I start being.
- 53:05That e-mail where you go. Hey, yes, you know what you like
- 53:08now, don't you guys that accidentally.
- 53:11Got into golf this year. Watching it or playing?
- 53:15It series. Watching it so.
- 53:18What? Yeah, so I was, I was at the gym
- 53:22and the, the, the, the American, what's it called?
- 53:25The The Tour, the PGA Tour, Yeah, was just on.
- 53:30And. I've never liked golf.
- 53:33I would, if you'd asked me, I would have said it's not a
- 53:35sport. It's the at best, it's the most
- 53:38boring sport there is. And I only started paying
- 53:41attention because I started going and they dressed so
- 53:44smartly. These golfers, you know, like
- 53:46they're so old. They're a.
- 53:48Nice. Narrow pant Fisher polo 2 tone
- 53:53brogue shoes, little glove. I'm like, would you like to go
- 53:57play golf glove? And I was like.
- 54:01One glove. Love that.
- 54:09Oh shit, my monitor's just gone off.
- 54:11I thought I'd fix that problem, but and then I started being
- 54:15like, but shame they're playing such a boring sport.
- 54:17But then you start watching it every day, you know, at the gym
- 54:20I go at the same time and it was always, it was always on.
- 54:22And I started being like, oh, he's this guy again, Willie.
- 54:25Oh, OK. He's playing a bit worse than
- 54:26yesterday. OK, bad luck.
- 54:28Bad luck. I'll stand here and I'll watch.
- 54:30I'll watch till you get better. OK, Good.
- 54:31You got it. And then I'm at home and I'm
- 54:33going. Hmm.
- 54:34Pop the golf on. I wonder.
- 54:36Yeah, I. Might pop the golf on SO.
- 54:38I watched a bit of golf this year so I sell some.
- 54:41I am a bit like me with lawn. Balls.
- 54:44I think the lawn balls comes on TV.
- 54:47I have to watch it. This has to trump me.
- 54:50I get. Into I get into a.
- 54:51Middle-aged sport and he's like fuck it, I'm going straight to
- 54:54the elderly person. Retired geriatric sport but do
- 54:57you want to go and play a round of golf?
- 54:59Because I'll happily do. That, yeah, I wouldn't mind it.
- 55:01Fuck. Off if if nobody minds that I
- 55:04you guys aren't allowed. To socialize.
- 55:05That so much without me it's not.
- 55:06Fair. They won't be in America soon.
- 55:11Matt, you'll have to come home. Yeah, I suppose no offence, but
- 55:15something's. Happening in your.
- 55:16Country. Yeah, I'm.
- 55:18Aware. I'm aware.
- 55:20How many states do you have now? I'm not sure anymore.
- 55:26You do. Do you have to?
- 55:28You've got to include Israel. Now, I assume as a state, right?
- 55:31Yeah, potentially. I mean, it's essentially.
- 55:33Bankrolled by the USA at this point, I think.
- 55:35Isn't it? We've got some.
- 55:36You've just reminded me. We've got some news.
- 55:38It's like, oh, we love talking about Israel news on this show
- 55:41talk. About Israel, we don't have to
- 55:43get into the politics of any of that.
- 55:44Kind of stuff. I was just this, this caught my
- 55:46eye and then I was like, oh, there's just something about
- 55:48this that made me go oh, OK, so Brussels, there was going to be
- 55:52a disturbed show, you know, disturbed the band.
- 55:55Yep, Yep. They were draining.
- 55:57Yeah, they were playing in. They were supposed to play in
- 56:00Brussels and they've cancelled it.
- 56:02They've cancelled the show. Brussels have cancelled the
- 56:04show. Brussels on behalf of.
- 56:06Yeah, they've said no, you're. Not allowed to play here.
- 56:08Due to security concerns over David Draymond's support of
- 56:13Israel. And I was like, oh, that's
- 56:15interesting. Like, you know, I mean whether
- 56:18you agree. To my mind, I'm not saying you
- 56:19don't. Have to.
- 56:20Be Jewish to support. Israel, but no taking a heart.
- 56:23And I was like, Oh, well, he just said that he supports
- 56:25Israel, that. Seems, you know, a lot of people
- 56:27are doing that, like, you know, cancelling the show.
- 56:29And then I was like, what? And then you read the article.
- 56:31It's like, no, no, no, he's been over there signing the missiles
- 56:36that they're launching at fucking Palestine.
- 56:38Oh God. I was like, I was like, I was
- 56:40like, OK, that should be extreme, like just for signing
- 56:44them. Jesus.
- 56:45But yeah, OK, OK, that's. I mean, look, his band is called
- 56:50that is. Support.
- 56:52Yeah, in a way that I. Did not expense.
- 56:54I'm sorry if you saw that's going to go and kill.
- 56:56People that that's like, that's very.
- 56:58Strange behaviour to be honest. Yeah, this.
- 57:02Mohammed signed David. Yeah, that's weird.
- 57:06That's that's a weird thing to do.
- 57:08And it's a weird thing to do. Yeah, AI wouldn't have thought.
- 57:12He was that popular. In Israel he is.
- 57:17Now, I guess I know, but you know, I mean, I mean, this is
- 57:19one way to drop rock and heavy metal in in the military.
- 57:22Knock on the door and go Hi can I sign some?
- 57:25Missiles there are very. Twitter views visiting the IDF
- 57:30and he's got photos of him. Standing there with with with
- 57:32them and he's literally just signing shells and stuff.
- 57:35I'm an Australian born and bred, but if somebody said to.
- 57:38Me can can you guys from, you know, famous Australian podcast
- 57:42multiple Nogasm, can you come and sign some missiles that were
- 57:45going to fire at any country? Yeah, I'd be like it doesn't
- 57:49matter. Don't think so.
- 57:51No, nothing. It's not a country on earth.
- 57:53I'd be. Like yeah, fuck.
- 57:54If if we've got time travel back to World War 2 and they.
- 57:56Said Will you sign these shows? We don't look at the Nazis?
- 57:59I'd still say, you know what? I'm not comfortable with that.
- 58:01Yeah, unless it was the those people firing.
- 58:03Directly at Adolf Hitler, Yeah. In which case maybe I'd be like,
- 58:07those are people. I'm from the future again, I
- 58:09just. Think it's a very.
- 58:10Strange thing to do. Regardless of who you're
- 58:13launching them at anyway. So yeah, funny show.
- 58:18Cancelled. Yeah, Yep.
- 58:21Fair enough. Fair enough.
- 58:23Honestly, that's very political. That is very political.
- 58:28You know, Jerry Seinfeld saying, look, I'm a Jew, so of course
- 58:32I'm pro Israel, but like, don't ask me because I, I, I don't, I
- 58:34don't know the politics of and I'm not going to get into it
- 58:36like it's a different thing. He hates Palestine and.
- 58:39Like he never said that there's. Having an opinion.
- 58:41And then there's whatever this. Is yes.
- 58:45I want my name on every missile. That fucking takes out.
- 58:49Or even because then it's like, OK, maybe he doesn't feel that
- 58:51strongly. About it then why are you
- 58:53signing the missiles? Why are you there?
- 58:55They just asked you to autograph.
- 58:57Some stuff, did you not? Ask them what the fuck they were
- 58:59going to do with them. Like, I'll just take this
- 59:03missile. Home.
- 59:04Can you just? Yeah.
- 59:04That's the thing, I feel like there's no, there's no way.
- 59:07To spin this where it's just like, yeah, OK, that makes sense
- 59:09that you did that. I've never signed an autograph
- 59:12in my life. Not once.
- 59:13Not ever. I have you have It was awesome
- 59:16was when was in a band someone asked me.
- 59:18To sign the setlist I've never signed.
- 59:19I will sign the setlist. Yeah, 100% the best day of my
- 59:22life. Yeah, 100%.
- 59:25But it's great. But if somebody said sign, you
- 59:28know my autograph book, great, of course.
- 59:31Sign my T-shirt, Sure, you know, here's a sucker to sign my list.
- 59:36Also fine, if you came to me with a missile and said could
- 59:39you write your name on this, I'd be like, absolutely fucking not,
- 59:43mate, Yeah. What are you going to do with it
- 59:44then? Why no first?
- 59:46Yeah, no. What are you going to do with?
- 59:49It How did you get the in here? Yeah.
- 59:52And. Then to be clear.
- 59:54The the answer to the. What are you going to do with
- 59:56that question is not going to nullify my previous answer which
- 59:58is relevant. I just need to be able to tell
- 1:00:00the authorities. Where this is going?
- 1:00:01Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know it was not the best.
- 1:00:06Day of my life I was being. Hyperbolic in case anybody's
- 1:00:08gonna anyone's upset by the fact that I've ranked.
- 1:00:12Yeah, signing a. Piece of paper My child are
- 1:00:14listening to this podcast. Exactly.
- 1:00:17Yeah, in case it's the future and Lyra's catching up on all
- 1:00:19this shit ever so slightly hyperbolic.
- 1:00:23Just a teeny tiny bit. Look, I want to go over into.
- 1:00:29The after party Les soiree derriere.
- 1:00:34But before we do, I just want to say that I watched a movie this
- 1:00:38week too. It's Halloween season.
- 1:00:43I try to watch horror movies in October and I watched a movie
- 1:00:47called Weapons this week and it was, what's the word, very good.
- 1:00:54It was very good. Excellent movie.
- 1:00:57It was excellent. It was.
- 1:00:58A very good. Premise, but also the payoff.
- 1:01:02Not A twist or anything like that, but just the, the the
- 1:01:05explanation to why crazy shit is happening was perfectly
- 1:01:09satisfying in a way that, for example, if this had been a
- 1:01:13Stephen King movie, the 1st 3/4 would be fucking excellent.
- 1:01:17And then at the end I'd be like, OK, well, you've ruined it
- 1:01:19there, but fine. Yeah, no, this was like, yeah,
- 1:01:22great. Because I feel like.
- 1:01:24The difference is. This started with what is the
- 1:01:28base premise and then kind of teased bits out and like, OK,
- 1:01:32how can we make this kind of mysterious and and compelling in
- 1:01:35a way that Stephen King starts the other way around where he's
- 1:01:37like, here's this big mystery and then he works his way and
- 1:01:40then he gets the middle and he goes, oh, fuck, I don't know how
- 1:01:41to tie this all together. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:44There you go. Nothing to do with it.
- 1:01:45Something that I'm. Writing Aliens.
- 1:01:48Yeah. Yeah, as I think this.
- 1:01:51This works the. Other way around where it's
- 1:01:53actually on paper it is more straightforward than it appears.
- 1:01:57Sure, yes, sort of. And it's not a.
- 1:01:59Normal movie where because you. Decide what the ending is,
- 1:02:03right? No, they tell you.
- 1:02:06But. They they tell the story in a
- 1:02:09fragmented way. So you find out, they they drip
- 1:02:13feed you information, but you already know the beginning,
- 1:02:18middle and end of the story. Yeah, at the start.
- 1:02:22But they just give you they. Recontextual.
- 1:02:24They constantly recontextualize and it's it's very good.
- 1:02:29It's got some stuff in this is so.
- 1:02:31Disturbing for I'll just say, like if you're from the 80s like
- 1:02:36we are and you're terrified of fucking needles as we are, there
- 1:02:40are some stuff in this that's just like, Oh my God, oh man,
- 1:02:44yes. Yes, I know it's not even like
- 1:02:48that. I'm not trying to give it a.
- 1:02:50Watch this week. You should very.
- 1:02:52Good. It's just very good if you it's
- 1:02:54not. Necessarily into horror movies
- 1:02:55but you just like good movies. Well told stories.
- 1:02:58This is 1. I wanna say one thing before we
- 1:03:01go the after party on Lukes thing.
- 1:03:02About Christopher Nolan, right? Yes.
- 1:03:04Have you heard this anecdote? This is from?
- 1:03:06Craig's. Podcast Craig's one of Craig's
- 1:03:08friends, I forget which one. The the inception thing have you
- 1:03:11did you need the story at the end?
- 1:03:13You know the story. If I did, I don't remember it.
- 1:03:15I I've kind of stopped. Listening to be honest, but this
- 1:03:18may be from an old one they were talking about how?
- 1:03:20The inception, how it's ambiguous at the end, Right,
- 1:03:23right. And then one of them, maybe
- 1:03:25Bruce. Oh yes, it was, you guys know,
- 1:03:26in LA with the editor who was working on Oppenheimer or
- 1:03:32something like that, and they were having lunch.
- 1:03:33And he said, oh. You know, I've got to, we could
- 1:03:35have lunch and then I've got to go back to Chris's place to keep
- 1:03:37editing. And he said, oh, yeah, no, I
- 1:03:39love Christmas movies and that I love, you know how the ending of
- 1:03:41Inception is ambiguous? And he said, do you want me to
- 1:03:45ask him what the what happens at the end?
- 1:03:48And he. I don't know.
- 1:03:50And he goes, all right. And then he said later on, he
- 1:03:52got a text. He got a text from him.
- 1:03:54And he goes, I asked him and he said, yeah, no, those are his
- 1:03:56kids. It's it's not a dream.
- 1:03:58And he was like, fuck, you ruined it.
- 1:04:00Yeah. What did you tell me that for?
- 1:04:05So because I want to. Know he came to the movie.
- 1:04:08I'm not happy to work it out if this is true.
- 1:04:10If this is true. According to Christopher Nolan,
- 1:04:13it's not a dream. Those are really his kids.
- 1:04:16Excellent. How?
- 1:04:18Close. That's so funny because he point
- 1:04:20was he got a text. He read it and he.
- 1:04:22Was. Like, yeah.
- 1:04:24Right. But that's like that Japanese
- 1:04:26radio interview with Stanley Kubrick where the the the
- 1:04:30translator's going. He's asking you what the ending
- 1:04:33of 2001's about. And he's like, I'm not going to
- 1:04:35tell you. It's supposed to make up your
- 1:04:36own mind. He's like, she's like he doesn't
- 1:04:38get understand that. He just wants you to explain the
- 1:04:40ending. He goes oh fine and then just
- 1:04:43explains it like he never has in any other media.
- 1:04:47Like if you want. To know what that ending is,
- 1:04:49just Google Japanese interview. All right, I'll have a look.
- 1:04:56I love that though. Like, because back then I guess
- 1:04:59they thought, oh, it's not going to air in no one or I'm in
- 1:05:01Japan. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:02No one's ever. Going to see this, they're not
- 1:05:04going to invent something. It'd have to be some
- 1:05:06international network. Of computers for me to be some
- 1:05:09sort of tube of for. You for you, yeah.
- 1:05:14Not for me. For you, I'll be dead.
- 1:05:17It's it's a tube for you, something else that's.
- 1:05:22For you, listener, it's the after party.
- 1:05:24Yeah, and if you want, give it to you.

- 1:06:01I mean, there's, there's people. Putting money down on the.
- 1:06:03Table. We've had people give you the
- 1:06:05money and. They're waiting.
- 1:06:08Waiting to decide what it is. No, we're not allowed to do
- 1:06:13that. We're not.
- 1:06:14Allowed to do that on Patreon? No, I think there's something on
- 1:06:17Patreon that. Says if you promise something.
- 1:06:20And. Six months pass and you haven't
- 1:06:22done it. You have to suck them off.
- 1:06:24Yeah, that's just that's in the terms.
- 1:06:26And conditions, yeah. I mean, that's on Kickstarter,
- 1:06:29right? If you don't get.
- 1:06:30Like if you back a game on Kickstarter, it doesn't come
- 1:06:32out. They have to come and suck you
- 1:06:33off. Yeah, I owed a lot of blow.
- 1:06:36Jobs then and you can't you can't say no, I don't want it
- 1:06:39either because. It's a contract.
- 1:06:40They have to do it. They have to.
- 1:06:42They have to do it. Legally obligated to do it.
- 1:06:43You have to let them, yeah. And you have to finish it says
- 1:06:47it in the. So I have to let them suck me
- 1:06:49off. Yeah.
- 1:06:50Oh, OK then. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:53And you have to like it. Yeah.
- 1:06:57You have to like it and if you don't like it gets worse from
- 1:07:00there, mate. Yeah, that's way worse.
