- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hej Lucas! I'm feeling a bit lost today — literally. I was trying to find a café in Stockholm and got totally turned around. Lucas: Oh that's perfect timing, because today we're tackling directions. After this episode, you'll be able to say things like 'sväng vänster' and 'sväng höger'. Luna: Ooh, that's exactly what I needed! If Fexingo helps you get around a new city, that's pretty useful, right? And if it's been helping you, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo — keeps this show ad-free and focused on helping you learn. Lucas: Yeah, absolutely. And speaking of getting around, let's start with 'sväng vänster' — turn left. Try it with me: sväng vänster. Luna: Sväng vänster. Lucas: Perfect. Now 'sväng höger' — turn right. Sväng höger. Luna: Sväng höger. Okay, so 'vänster' is left, 'höger' is right. Got it. Lucas: Yes! And then there's 'rakt fram' — straight ahead. Rakt fram. Luna: Rakt fram. So if someone says 'sväng vänster' I go left, 'sväng höger' right, and 'rakt fram' straight. That's nice and simple. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's put them together. Imagine you're asking where something is: 'Var ligger caféet?' — where is the café? Var ligger caféet? Luna: Var ligger caféet? That's 'where is the café?' Good. Lucas: And a possible answer: 'Sväng vänster, sen rakt fram.' — Turn left, then straight ahead. Sväng vänster, sen rakt fram. Luna: Sväng vänster, sen rakt fram. So 'sen' means 'then'? Lucas: Exactly. You can also say 'till höger' — to the right, and 'till vänster' — to the left. For example: 'Det är till vänster.' — It's on the left. Det är till vänster. Luna: Det är till vänster. So 'till vänster' is like 'to the left'. Lucas: Right. And 'till höger' — to the right. 'Det är till höger.' Luna: Det är till höger. Okay, I think I can navigate now. Let me try a mini conversation. 'Var ligger stationen?' — where is the station? Lucas: Good! And I'll answer: 'Sväng höger, sen rakt fram. Stationen är till vänster.' — Turn right, then straight ahead. The station is on the left. Luna: Sväng höger, sen rakt fram. Stationen är till vänster. That makes sense. I can picture it. Lucas: Let's practice one more time. Repeat after me: sväng vänster. Luna: Sväng vänster. Lucas: Sväng höger. Luna: Sväng höger. Lucas: Rakt fram. Luna: Rakt fram. Lucas: Till vänster. Luna: Till vänster. Lucas: Till höger. Luna: Till höger. Lucas, this is so helpful. Now I'm ready to explore Stockholm without getting lost. Lucas: That's the goal. And remember, if you're ever unsure, just say 'Var ligger...' and the place. People will help. Luna: Great tip. Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to our listeners for joining. Practice these phrases, and next time you're in Sweden, you'll navigate like a pro. Lucas: Yes, keep practicing. We'll be back with more Swedish soon. Hej då! Luna: Hej då!
