Matson has finally come home — his remains identified and returned to his West Virginia hometown, where his family, including his 82-year-old great-aunt, celebrated with tears and pride. A volunteer with Merrill’s Marauders, Matson died in the Battle of Myitkyina in 1944 — just days before his aunt was born. The community rallied in full force to welcome him home, honoring his legacy and the enduring American spirit that never forgets those who serve.
