- 0:00Speaker 1: That's impossible. Let me tell you what I believe. It's
- 0:03Speaker 1: your weakness, it's not your technique. Don't think you know.
- 0:12Speaker 1: The Impossible Life Podcast and yes, sitting on a winning lottery. Second,
- 0:16Speaker 1: an idea that is fully formed, fully understood, that sticks.
- 0:22Speaker 2: This is the Impossible Life Podcast because Nick and I
- 0:26Speaker 2: are attempting to live impossible lives. What we know is
- 0:30Speaker 2: that nothing is impossible. So instead of using impossible as
- 0:34Speaker 2: an excuse to not try, we'll use the pursuit of
- 0:37Speaker 2: impossible as an accelerant for greatness. If something's never been
- 0:42Speaker 2: done before, that just means it's unexplored. If they tell
- 0:46Speaker 2: you it's too hard, it's just waiting to be simplified.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Impossible as a default label used by uncourageous people unwilling
- 0:55Speaker 2: to take a risk. The real truth is this. The
- 0:58Speaker 2: solution to any impossible task starts with this question, If
- 1:03Speaker 2: I had to what would it take? What would it take?
- 1:10Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of the Impossible Life Podcast. I'm
- 1:13Speaker 1: your co host, Nick Surface, and I'm looking across at
- 1:15Speaker 1: a man who removes the butt in butt rock. That's right,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Friends the phone Garrett Nunckleback, a man who makes no apologies,
- 1:26Speaker 1: for his love of Creed and Nickelback.
- 1:29Speaker 2: This is okay, So I'm gonna need some explanation on
- 1:32Speaker 2: this one for people. My wife told me the other day.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I did not realize this, but the genre of music
- 1:40Speaker 2: that I unashamedly appreciate. If you don't like this music,
- 1:45Speaker 2: it's fine make fun of me. I don't care. I
- 1:47Speaker 2: really do not. I think it's great music I have liked.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I listened to Creed in the nineties, never stopped listening
- 1:55Speaker 2: to Creed. I listened to Nickelback in the two thousands,
- 1:59Speaker 2: never stopped listening to Nickelback. I think these are great bands.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I think they make really awesome rock music.
- 2:06Speaker 1: All.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Both of both of those bands have some songs I
- 2:08Speaker 2: really like. They have some songs I don't necessarily like. However,
- 2:12Speaker 2: the point is both of these bands and some other
- 2:15Speaker 2: bands are in the category of what is called butt rock. Yes,
- 2:19Speaker 2: and your wife send me. I won't try to make
- 2:22Speaker 2: an explanation for why that's the name of the genre.
- 2:24Speaker 2: But anyways, nick Well.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I asked her because your wife texts me, so shout
- 2:28Speaker 1: out to Lindsay, who I know will enjoy that intro
- 2:30Speaker 1: because she's feeding me lindsay, keep it coming. You know,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I need I need to help. So I was like,
- 2:35Speaker 1: why would they call it butt rock? And She's like,
- 2:36Speaker 1: because you know they always go nothing but rock on
- 2:38Speaker 1: the channels that play them. And I was like, ah,
- 2:40Speaker 1: so that's pretty good.
- 2:41Speaker 2: That's that's actually really good.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I thought that was It made me laugh. So I
- 2:46Speaker 1: think I think she was texting this while I was
- 2:48Speaker 1: shooting at Union and so I'm like doing a lot
- 2:51Speaker 1: of stuff and also like being amused by my little
- 2:52Speaker 1: sister at the same time, because you know it's important
- 2:55Speaker 1: to her. So it made me laugh. Anyways, Today's Tools
- 2:57Speaker 1: and Tactics. Gee, this is we're calling this how to
- 3:01Speaker 1: Not Destroy Yourself. But this was this comes from a
- 3:04Speaker 1: question that we had. We had one of our listeners
- 3:06Speaker 1: reach out and by the way, guys, if you send
- 3:08Speaker 1: us messages on DMS on school, if you email info
- 3:12Speaker 1: at Theimpossible Dot life, like I always answer and read them,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and we care about we want to help people. It's
- 3:18Speaker 1: literally why we do this podcast is because we're here
- 3:20Speaker 1: to serve. And so we had somebody reach out with
- 3:22Speaker 1: very genuine questions like, look, I'm not married, do you
- 3:24Speaker 1: have an episode on how to overcome lust because I
- 3:27Speaker 1: get a lot of people that will ask me questions.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I had somebody yesterday that asked me, Hey, I've been
- 3:31Speaker 1: struggling with anger. You know, can you help me? And
- 3:34Speaker 1: I said, yes, I can. And I said in the
- 3:35Speaker 1: linked episode one ninety one, which was where we covered
- 3:38Speaker 1: exactly that. So why we do these because some things
- 3:41Speaker 1: are going to be dealt with for all of time.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Go read Proverbs five and seven. Lust is not new
- 3:46Speaker 1: as we think about it, as far as the lust
- 3:48Speaker 1: for a woman. So he asked us, you know, I'm
- 3:50Speaker 1: not married. How do I overcome lust?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Gee?
- 3:53Speaker 1: And so I just wanted to feed that one.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to look at it more holistically. You can.
- 4:00Speaker 2: There's programs to that'll help you overcome lust. I mean,
- 4:05Speaker 2: I've even recently seen Instagram coaching programs on how to
- 4:09Speaker 2: stop looking at porn. And I'm, you know, on both
- 4:12Speaker 2: sides of the fence and how I feel about that
- 4:14Speaker 2: that Yes, certainly people need help with that, but then
- 4:17Speaker 2: also the people are running coaching programs around this.
- 4:20Speaker 1: But it's way more.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Than just trying to fix lust. That'd be the same
- 4:26Speaker 2: as like being someone who never goes to the gym
- 4:27Speaker 2: and saying why I would like big biceps, It's like, well,
- 4:30Speaker 2: if you are, you know, six foot one hundred and
- 4:32Speaker 2: forty pounds and not knocking anybody who is, but if
- 4:35Speaker 2: you are, you look a lot more like a soccer
- 4:37Speaker 2: player than a bodybuilder. If you're sick to see you,
- 4:39Speaker 2: by the way, in eighth grade. In eighth grade, if
- 4:43Speaker 2: you're six foot, one hundred and forty pounds, you can't
- 4:45Speaker 2: just do biceps. You know, we're going to have to
- 4:47Speaker 2: approach the entire system. And much more than this. It's
- 4:51Speaker 2: not just like, man, I got to get lust out
- 4:53Speaker 2: of my life. We need to fix a heart issue.
- 4:55Speaker 2: We need to develop a right mindset. We need to
- 4:57Speaker 2: develop the character, the love, and the strength your life
- 5:00Speaker 2: so you can overcome not just lust, but everything else
- 5:05Speaker 2: that seeks to destroy you. And so we're just going
- 5:07Speaker 2: to talk about fighting sin today, about the mindset of
- 5:10Speaker 2: how to approach this and how to not be destroyed
- 5:12Speaker 2: in your life. Because there are the little things. It
- 5:15Speaker 2: is the little things. We watched this with Satan's temptation
- 5:19Speaker 2: both in the garden and how he tempted Christ. We
- 5:22Speaker 2: see it in our own lives and it's all throughout Scripture.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It is the little things that will get you killed.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is. You said something, gee, because we're
- 5:31Speaker 1: going to dive into and we're going to break down
- 5:33Speaker 1: how sin works, where it starts, the deception of it,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and how to stop it. More importantly, but you said
- 5:39Speaker 1: something to me that stood out. You said, when you're
- 5:40Speaker 1: in the military, you learned about what complacency actually is.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Because I think we think complacency is like you're falling
- 5:46Speaker 1: asleep on the job and then like the bad guy
- 5:48Speaker 1: shows up, and you know, man, if you hadn't been
- 5:51Speaker 1: taken a nap, you you would have been fine. But
- 5:55Speaker 1: I've watched you as one of your best friends. You
- 5:58Speaker 1: will go so hard on things that I'm like, bro, relax,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and you'll tell me. You'll like, no, I know what
- 6:03Speaker 1: a big deal this is, and you're like adamant about it,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and you say, you learned this in the military. It
- 6:08Speaker 1: is the.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It is the phrase of the lazy man. It's not
- 6:13Speaker 2: a big deal. Okay. That is that is called a
- 6:16Speaker 2: sense of complacency, and complacency will get you killed. This
- 6:20Speaker 2: is not just me being militaristic. Okay, here the way
- 6:24Speaker 2: that but it is a great example of it. And
- 6:26Speaker 2: they train it because they live in a very practical world, okay,
- 6:29Speaker 2: where the consequences can equal death. Here's what complacency does.
- 6:34Speaker 2: In the military. We would be trained to do a
- 6:36Speaker 2: certain thing, like do it this way, and there are
- 6:39Speaker 2: very important reasons for why to do it this way,
- 6:41Speaker 2: and the first time you do it not that way,
- 6:44Speaker 2: you do it a different way, or you don't do
- 6:46Speaker 2: what you're supposed to do and you don't receive a consequence.
- 6:49Speaker 2: You have now trained yourself wrongly to think, oh this
- 6:52Speaker 2: is okay. I did it before and I got away
- 6:55Speaker 2: with it. Now I can do it again and I
- 6:57Speaker 2: get away with it. Maybe those consequences aren't so real.
- 7:00Speaker 2: So the way that they train you in the military,
- 7:02Speaker 2: and this is also good parenting, this is also good
- 7:04Speaker 2: leadership development, not specifically, but pick up the principles here.
- 7:10Speaker 2: The way they train in the military was you know,
- 7:12Speaker 2: for me, going through seal training, you made the littlest
- 7:14Speaker 2: mistake that was out of line with what the instruction
- 7:17Speaker 2: was immediate, harsh and severe consequences. Why you know, because
- 7:22Speaker 2: that definition of harsh and sphere consequences was some sort
- 7:25Speaker 2: of a physical beat down. You're gonna sweat for it.
- 7:28Speaker 2: But as they say, the more you sweat in training,
- 7:30Speaker 2: the less you bleed in battle. And when you are
- 7:33Speaker 2: trained wisely and trained correctly, that goes I believe that
- 7:38Speaker 2: goes all the way back to patent. It's a it's
- 7:40Speaker 2: an old great general who said that, but it's a
- 7:43Speaker 2: common phrase in you know, harsh military pipelines. So when
- 7:48Speaker 2: you train correctly, then you will not reap great consequence
- 7:52Speaker 2: later on the battlefield. Here's but let me pull this
- 7:55Speaker 2: together for you. Here's the thing that ruins people's lives.
- 7:59Speaker 2: No one wakes up one day and says, you know what,
- 8:01Speaker 2: I'm going to become four hundred pounds. No one wakes
- 8:04Speaker 2: up one day and says I'm going to ruin my
- 8:06Speaker 2: marriage today. No one wakes up one day and says,
- 8:09Speaker 2: you know what I'd like to do. I'd like to
- 8:11Speaker 2: destroy all of my character and credibility and wipe the
- 8:14Speaker 2: slate clean on what I've done for the last ten
- 8:16Speaker 2: years of my business. Nobody wakes up one morning and
- 8:19Speaker 2: says they're going to do that. However, you make small,
- 8:24Speaker 2: sinful or principle breaking choices, and you do not reap
- 8:27Speaker 2: an immediate consequence, and you say it's okay, and this
- 8:30Speaker 2: is actually the dangerous reality of life. And you have
- 8:34Speaker 2: an enemy and Satan and his followers who may actually
- 8:39Speaker 2: protect you from consequences for a time. Why they're letting
- 8:43Speaker 2: you continue to sew destruction until that destruction is so
- 8:47Speaker 2: great that when the dam breaks, it wipes you out.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You have to know, you have to know. And this
- 8:52Speaker 2: is why God gave you a heart. This is why
- 8:54Speaker 2: God gave you wisdom that when you sow these seeds
- 8:57Speaker 2: of destruction at Scalatians six eight, God will not be mocked.
- 9:00Speaker 2: A man reaps what he sows, and so if you
- 9:03Speaker 2: are sowing seeds of destruction, you will reap destruction in
- 9:06Speaker 2: your life. When I think about some of the stuff
- 9:08Speaker 2: we're going to talk about today in my own personal life,
- 9:11Speaker 2: whether it's things as simple as the words that come
- 9:14Speaker 2: out of my mouth like not cursing, whether it's temptation
- 9:17Speaker 2: to for lust or pride of life or any of
- 9:20Speaker 2: these things, what I think about, I do the same
- 9:22Speaker 2: thing that we've talked about before, Nick, as it relates
- 9:25Speaker 2: to purpose compression. I take the weight of everything and
- 9:27Speaker 2: I bring it into this moment. I do the same
- 9:29Speaker 2: thing in reverse with sin is where I say, well,
- 9:31Speaker 2: this little thing, it could destroy the greatest things. Here's
- 9:35Speaker 2: what if I make this little choice today and the
- 9:38Speaker 2: path I take this one little step off of the path,
- 9:41Speaker 2: here's where that ends in the end. Right that one
- 9:43Speaker 2: time that you start thinking, well, maybe it's okay if
- 9:46Speaker 2: I look at and I'll choose porn for as an example,
- 9:48Speaker 2: I look at porn this one time. It's not a
- 9:49Speaker 2: big deal. I would never cheat on my wife. But
- 9:52Speaker 2: you do it again, and you do it again, and
- 9:54Speaker 2: you do it again, and then you start to think,
- 9:56Speaker 2: you know, I guess it sure would be nice to
- 9:59Speaker 2: sleep with a woman that looks that way. And then
- 10:02Speaker 2: you continue a pattern like this, and over a period
- 10:04Speaker 2: of time you slowly have trained yourself wrongly, and you
- 10:08Speaker 2: become a person who would do that a man. I
- 10:11Speaker 2: know I shouldn't. I know it's wrong, but it wouldn't
- 10:13Speaker 2: it be nice? And again, you don't wake up and
- 10:16Speaker 2: do this in one day, but you continue to sow
- 10:19Speaker 2: these seeds over time, and you end up in the
- 10:22Speaker 2: most destructive place in your life. So you have to
- 10:24Speaker 2: understand the consequences of sin even when sin doesn't show
- 10:28Speaker 2: up and punish you on the same day.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Man that is, so that's massive. G It was General
- 10:33Speaker 1: Norman Schwartzkof who actually said the more you sweat in peace,
- 10:36Speaker 1: the less you bleed in war, which I've never heard
- 10:38Speaker 1: that before. I absolutely love that. And what you said,
- 10:42Speaker 1: people's hard dog.
- 10:44Speaker 2: That's a hard dog category.
- 10:45Speaker 1: There's there's the hard Dog Hall of Fame and it
- 10:47Speaker 1: quotes at that best sent there. What you just said though,
- 10:51Speaker 1: that people don't associate the choice to consequences, so they
- 10:54Speaker 1: make wrong choices because like they didn't get hurt. I
- 10:57Speaker 1: remember this stood out to me. It was Ecclesiastes eight
- 10:59Speaker 1: eleven actually says this. It says, when the sentence for
- 11:03Speaker 1: a crime is not quickly carried out, people's hearts are
- 11:06Speaker 1: filled with schemes to do wrong. And man, if the
- 11:09Speaker 1: wisest man on earth notice that from his life, do
- 11:12Speaker 1: you think the devil who's observed years of human behavior
- 11:15Speaker 1: doesn't know that as well? And it's exactly what you said,
- 11:17Speaker 1: so so much of where it begins. And I want
- 11:20Speaker 1: to say this man to people, because it's so important
- 11:23Speaker 1: in all that you do. If you're going to try
- 11:25Speaker 1: and like muscle this through, we're going to get into
- 11:27Speaker 1: how important your discipline and choice is. But like pray
- 11:32Speaker 1: and ask the Holy Spirit to be with you. Here's
- 11:34Speaker 1: what I'll say if you're when we think of lust,
- 11:37Speaker 1: let's just dive in gie first John two sixteen says,
- 11:39Speaker 1: this is how most of us think of lust. For
- 11:42Speaker 1: everything in the world. The lust of the flesh, the
- 11:44Speaker 1: lust of the eyes, and the pride of life comes
- 11:45Speaker 1: not from the Father but from the world. Dang it,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I've got this sinful nature which you do. It's always
- 11:51Speaker 1: going to want the wrong thing, which it is, and as.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Long as you're in the world, it's going to be
- 11:55Speaker 2: there you live. It's like swimming in the ocean and
- 11:58Speaker 2: trying to not get wet right right until you until
- 12:02Speaker 2: you can walk on the water, which we've got to
- 12:04Speaker 2: do with Christ. You are. You are surrounded in a
- 12:07Speaker 2: world of sin. So just understand that's where it is,
- 12:10Speaker 2: and you're gonna have to fight it when every single day.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yes, and it's and so when we think of lust,
- 12:17Speaker 1: if you're a man, you're thinking, like, dude, I shouldn't
- 12:19Speaker 1: want to think about or look at whatever I want
- 12:21Speaker 1: to look at or think about. But lust is so
- 12:24Speaker 1: much more than that. You can lust for a car,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you can lust for more money. You can lust for position,
- 12:29Speaker 1: for title, for a relationship like literally, because what it
- 12:33Speaker 1: is is the actual word used is desire, and so
- 12:37Speaker 1: interesting because it says the definition of it. It's properly
- 12:39Speaker 1: a passion built on strong feelings on urges. Now this
- 12:43Speaker 1: is what's so interesting. These can be positive or negative
- 12:46Speaker 1: depending on whether the desire is inspired by faith what
- 12:50Speaker 1: like we have No one would say I lust for
- 12:52Speaker 1: the things of the Lord, because that is like a
- 12:54Speaker 1: foreign concept. So I'm not saying that we should use
- 12:56Speaker 1: that word. But you can have deep longings for good
- 12:59Speaker 1: as for bad, and I hope that encourages you, because
- 13:02Speaker 1: the same way like that you you you know, you're like, man,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I'm just drawn of these things that I know are
- 13:06Speaker 1: wrong for me. You can like be drawn and have
- 13:09Speaker 1: deep longings and strong desires for good things. Jesus used
- 13:13Speaker 1: the same word that John uses there when he's talking
- 13:16Speaker 1: about the lust of the eyes. He used the same
- 13:18Speaker 1: word when he said he eagerly desired to eep the passover.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Paul used the same one whenever he said he desired
- 13:22Speaker 1: to depart and be with Christ. So like we oftentimes
- 13:25Speaker 1: will just folk like categorize a word like bad. But
- 13:29Speaker 1: but you have these desires. And what that tells me
- 13:32Speaker 1: is that you can feed the right things or you
- 13:34Speaker 1: can feed the wrong things and be careful what you feed,
- 13:37Speaker 1: because they grow into beasts right for good or for bad.
- 13:40Speaker 1: And so I want it is exactly what you're saying.
- 13:42Speaker 2: So what are these things? Really? Quickly that it? Scripture
- 13:45Speaker 2: mentions here lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes,
- 13:48Speaker 2: pride of life. Both lust of the flesh and lust
- 13:52Speaker 2: of the Yeah, lust of the flesh and lust of
- 13:54Speaker 2: the eyes. These things are both mentioned in two very
- 13:57Speaker 2: key places in scripture. Right, it's reference to the garden
- 14:01Speaker 2: of Eden, and it's also referenced in Christ when he
- 14:05Speaker 2: was tempted in the wilderness. Okay, so much of we
- 14:10Speaker 2: we are spiritual creatures having an earthly experience, and we
- 14:14Speaker 2: have this body that has natural urges that we are
- 14:17Speaker 2: called to have self control over. Jesus was not tempted
- 14:21Speaker 2: in the desert with a beautiful woman, but he was
- 14:24Speaker 2: tempted in the desert with a loaf of bread. Right,
- 14:27Speaker 2: I know you're I know you're really hungry, yould Why
- 14:29Speaker 2: don't you why don't you eat this? And he was
- 14:32Speaker 2: having to fight you know his desire to follow Gods,
- 14:34Speaker 2: desire to be with God in the wilderness against a
- 14:37Speaker 2: body that was crying out for food, and he had
- 14:39Speaker 2: to choose what was his true source. And what he
- 14:42Speaker 2: also understood was like the scripture that we just reference says,
- 14:46Speaker 2: if these things are in you, the love of the
- 14:48Speaker 2: Father is not in you. And Christ pursued the love
- 14:52Speaker 2: true you know, most literally the love of the Father,
- 14:56Speaker 2: and that was what saved him and rescued him from this.
- 15:00Speaker 2: We also are called to just have self control, and
- 15:03Speaker 2: part of where your self control is going to come
- 15:05Speaker 2: from is the love of God. Part of where you're
- 15:07Speaker 2: self control it's going to come from is the Holy
- 15:10Speaker 2: Spirit operating and acting in you can help you do
- 15:12Speaker 2: the things you can't do by yourself. Part of that
- 15:14Speaker 2: self control is going to be just like you have
- 15:16Speaker 2: to have the ability to discipline your flesh. And when
- 15:20Speaker 2: you go to the gym, it's not the Holy Spirit
- 15:21Speaker 2: lifting the weights for you. It maybe Holy Spirit inspired
- 15:23Speaker 2: and I pray that's where your workouts will come from.
- 15:26Speaker 2: But you're going to have to connect your heart and
- 15:28Speaker 2: your mind to your flesh and make the muscles move.
- 15:32Speaker 2: You've got to have that level of self control. And
- 15:35Speaker 2: so it's a combination of all these things spirit, soul,
- 15:38Speaker 2: and body where you're going to be charged to do
- 15:40Speaker 2: it like you are one hundred percent capable of walking
- 15:44Speaker 2: away from sin. It says Bible says flee from sin.
- 15:47Speaker 2: It doesn't say resist sin. It's just as flee from it.
- 15:49Speaker 2: You can turn and run and it's exactly what you're
- 15:52Speaker 2: supposed to do. And where that's going to come from
- 15:54Speaker 2: is the self control that I'm talking about, and you've
- 15:57Speaker 2: got to have it spirit, soul and body. When you
- 16:00Speaker 2: have the love of the Father, you'll also have the
- 16:02Speaker 2: fear of the Lord and you'll say, God, this is
- 16:04Speaker 2: the this is the It'll help your sense of urgency,
- 16:07Speaker 2: not let you have a sense of complacency where you think, oh,
- 16:09Speaker 2: it's not a big deal. Ah, sorry God, my bad God.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I didn't mean it right. I'm so glad you'll forgive
- 16:15Speaker 2: me even after you know I haven't even done the
- 16:17Speaker 2: sin yet, but I know you're going to forgive me
- 16:19Speaker 2: after I do it. That's a wrong heart and we've
- 16:22Speaker 2: all had it. So you have to fight against that.
- 16:24Speaker 2: And the more you draw close to God, the easier
- 16:27Speaker 2: it's going to be to continue to walk down this path.
- 16:29Speaker 2: And one of the things I want to deliberately make
- 16:31Speaker 2: sure people understand is what gets you killed. Okay, that
- 16:37Speaker 2: sense of complacency. It's you, it can be, and so
- 16:40Speaker 2: this should be You should understand this as well, and
- 16:42Speaker 2: it should keep you from ever straying one step off
- 16:44Speaker 2: the path. But it's usually not the first step off
- 16:47Speaker 2: the path that gets you killed. Right from a statistical standpoint,
- 16:51Speaker 2: It's not going to be the first step off the
- 16:52Speaker 2: path that gets you killed. It's the twentieth step, it's
- 16:55Speaker 2: the hundredth step, it's the five hundredth step. And one
- 16:58Speaker 2: of the best things that you can have. And I
- 17:00Speaker 2: learned this from multiple mentors in my life who taught
- 17:03Speaker 2: me this same lesson in different ways, is you got
- 17:06Speaker 2: to have that quick reset. We all step off the path.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Me I step off the path. Okay. I know some
- 17:11Speaker 2: of you listen to the show might think I'm, you know,
- 17:14Speaker 2: Captain awesome, but I'm not. I'm not perfect. And when
- 17:17Speaker 2: I step on the path, what I have is something
- 17:20Speaker 2: you know, my mentors taught me that I also learned
- 17:23Speaker 2: well in the military. You've got to have that quick
- 17:25Speaker 2: and short reset. And when I've made mistakes. I've run
- 17:29Speaker 2: to the Lord and I say, God, I'm sorry, forgive me.
- 17:31Speaker 2: I don't want to be that way. Let me not
- 17:33Speaker 2: continue down that path. Help me draw back unto you
- 17:37Speaker 2: and the other disciplines in my life. Help guard that
- 17:40Speaker 2: as well. You know. So like Paster Keith, I love
- 17:43Speaker 2: what he says. Discipline begets discipline, and when you can
- 17:45Speaker 2: have it in one area of your life, it helps
- 17:47Speaker 2: in all the other areas of your life. Don't try
- 17:49Speaker 2: to just say like, well, I'm going to be overweighted
- 17:52Speaker 2: and never worked out, and I don't read scripture, but
- 17:54Speaker 2: I won't look at porn, good luck, good luck. But
- 17:58Speaker 2: when you can be discipline and all these other areas,
- 18:00Speaker 2: that also helps you to be disciplined in the areas
- 18:03Speaker 2: that are going to get you killed.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Gee, I want to highlight some of the things
- 18:07Speaker 1: that you said in there, because I was I was
- 18:09Speaker 1: heading the same place man, which obviously you knew because
- 18:12Speaker 1: we plan these. But I just think when you're going
- 18:16Speaker 1: through this to try, like the thought process of sin
- 18:20Speaker 1: is that you try and cover it yourself. And that's
- 18:22Speaker 1: fig leaves in the garden. And what does God do?
- 18:24Speaker 1: He slaughters an animal, He covers Adam and Eve, even
- 18:27Speaker 1: though they were completely wrong and they disobeyed him. Is
- 18:30Speaker 1: that you can only clothe yourselves with actual clothing. That's
- 18:33Speaker 1: going to work when you go to your father to
- 18:35Speaker 1: help you. And so, like what you're talking about, that
- 18:37Speaker 1: you recover quickly. Don't try and recover from these things
- 18:40Speaker 1: on your own, constantly repent coming, because the only person
- 18:43Speaker 1: that can transform your heart is God. I'll speak from
- 18:45Speaker 1: my own personal experience when I when God broke into
- 18:48Speaker 1: my life, he instantly removed the desire for porn. It's
- 18:52Speaker 1: been whatever, however, six years now, and I can honestly
- 18:55Speaker 1: say it's that the thought of looking at that sounds
- 18:58Speaker 1: disgusting to me. And I've never not even been close
- 19:01Speaker 1: to being tempted. And I can't fully explain that. But
- 19:04Speaker 1: what I other than to say that God transformed my
- 19:07Speaker 1: heart an instant. However, he did not do that on
- 19:09Speaker 1: all things. So please don't have your prayer like Lord,
- 19:13Speaker 1: just make me not want it ever again? Because can
- 19:15Speaker 1: you do that? Yeah, you can ask God for that,
- 19:17Speaker 1: but he may say no. There may be things that
- 19:19Speaker 1: you need to learn, because I can tell you when
- 19:21Speaker 1: it came to drinking, I had to work that one out.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I had through fear and trembling, and I had to
- 19:25Speaker 1: work out my salvation. It's not like just because I
- 19:27Speaker 1: don't want to look at porn, lust doesn't still become
- 19:30Speaker 1: a temptation one hundred percent. It's always knocking at my door,
- 19:34Speaker 1: sins knocking at your door, ready to eat, and desire
- 19:36Speaker 1: is for you. Is what God said whenever he was
- 19:38Speaker 1: talking to Caine, And it's like, you have to know
- 19:41Speaker 1: it's always there. But what you just said about recovering
- 19:44Speaker 1: quickly the moment you notice the step off. Because look,
- 19:46Speaker 1: if you're struggling with we'll just use the porn example
- 19:48Speaker 1: because it's a very simple one to understand. It didn't
- 19:51Speaker 1: start with like, oh, should I look at porn today?
- 19:53Speaker 1: It started with, man, did you see that chick at
- 19:55Speaker 1: the gym? Oh dude, I was on Instagram. Oh man,
- 19:57Speaker 1: this chick that I watched this show? She's so And like,
- 20:00Speaker 1: this is what you said, when the love of your father,
- 20:02Speaker 1: the Father is in you, that will overcome all this.
- 20:04Speaker 1: In feet John two fifteen, which is right before the
- 20:06Speaker 1: lust of the eyes, less of the flesh Scripture, he says,
- 20:09Speaker 1: do not love the world or the things in the world.
- 20:11Speaker 1: If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father
- 20:14Speaker 1: is not in him. So what my prayer has been
- 20:16Speaker 1: is like, Lord, show me your desire for marriage. Lord
- 20:18Speaker 1: show me how you see these things. And I've asked
- 20:21Speaker 1: God to like help me grow in the fear of
- 20:22Speaker 1: the Lord because I don't want to love the things
- 20:25Speaker 1: in the world. And what that looks like is you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: if you if your lust is towards money or towards power,
- 20:30Speaker 1: is you know, you follow this guy on Instagram and man, dude,
- 20:33Speaker 1: did you see the car he had?
- 20:35Speaker 2: Man?
- 20:35Speaker 1: Oh, dude, I would like, can you imagine? And like,
- 20:37Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with having dreams, but when those things
- 20:40Speaker 1: start to become like obsessions and they're the things that
- 20:42Speaker 1: your mind continues to go back to, what what sin
- 20:46Speaker 1: looks like is and lust ends up being is like, man,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I could take a shortcut to that. It's it's the
- 20:51Speaker 1: devil saying, hey, you.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Know, it's the test of what do you want most?
- 20:55Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:55Speaker 2: The pride, the pride of life test. It started with Satan.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Satan decided instead of wanting to be one of the
- 21:02Speaker 2: greatest servants of God, he wanted to be God. And
- 21:04Speaker 2: when you want the wrong things, you end up reaping
- 21:07Speaker 2: destruction in your life. Proverbs hit It's one of the
- 21:10Speaker 2: core dichotomies in Proverbs where it says, just like I
- 21:14Speaker 2: said recently, it was in twenty or twenty one, that
- 21:19Speaker 2: there are riches and find treasures in the wise man's house. Right,
- 21:23Speaker 2: So the wise man's it's not saying it's bad, but
- 21:25Speaker 2: it also says to love those things is evil and
- 21:27Speaker 2: reaps destruction. So when that's what you pursue, when that's
- 21:31Speaker 2: what's what your heart wants most, it'll bring destruction in
- 21:34Speaker 2: your life. But also when you want the right things,
- 21:36Speaker 2: you'll receive the right things. That's a good father giving
- 21:39Speaker 2: us good training. You have to what is what is
- 21:42Speaker 2: so important and where I think a lot of people
- 21:43Speaker 2: miss it. It's where they end up in destruction in
- 21:45Speaker 2: their life. It's the point of today's episode. Here's how
- 21:48Speaker 2: you avoid destruction. People do not rightly associate the consequences
- 21:53Speaker 2: that are coming with the choices that they make. Again,
- 21:56Speaker 2: it's why the training in the military was so severe.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I'll make an analogy here. Navy seals are not invincible, Okay,
- 22:04Speaker 2: contrary to movies and books and popular belief, not invincible,
- 22:08Speaker 2: but they are hard to kill. You're not going to
- 22:11Speaker 2: kill one by them making a foolish choice. You're going
- 22:15Speaker 2: to have to outwork them, outsmart them. You're not going
- 22:18Speaker 2: to kill them by one of them making a foolish choice.
- 22:21Speaker 2: And what you've got to understand is this is scripture.
- 22:25Speaker 2: You have been given all opportunity, everything is availed to
- 22:28Speaker 2: you for you to live a godly life. That's what
- 22:31Speaker 2: scripture says. You've got to decide. I'm going to walk
- 22:34Speaker 2: in this way. I want to receive the good training.
- 22:37Speaker 2: And that's part of what this podcast is. Nick and
- 22:39Speaker 2: I are doing everything we can to give you great
- 22:42Speaker 2: training this morning. Do not let your small, wrong choices
- 22:45Speaker 2: get you killed, because they will. They will get you
- 22:48Speaker 2: killed if you do not understand the consequences. And it's
- 22:52Speaker 2: this scripture Jeremiah chapter nine, verse twenty three through twenty four.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Thus says the Lord, let not the wise man boast
- 22:59Speaker 2: in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man boast in
- 23:02Speaker 2: his might. Let not the rich man boast in his riches. Right,
- 23:06Speaker 2: And notice it says here, let not whose responsibility is that?
- 23:11Speaker 2: Whose job is that, it's it's mine, it's yours. You
- 23:15Speaker 2: decide don't be this way. And then it says, but
- 23:19Speaker 2: let him who boasts boast in this that he understands
- 23:22Speaker 2: and knows me that I am the Lord who practices
- 23:26Speaker 2: steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in
- 23:30Speaker 2: these things I delight, declares the Lord.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so good man. So I think, what if I
- 23:38Speaker 1: want to make this overly simple? Is you know I've
- 23:41Speaker 1: watched you walk this side at a very high level. Gee,
- 23:43Speaker 1: is that you always have a choice. And what we
- 23:46Speaker 1: call sin starts with just a look. It starts, I mean,
- 23:49Speaker 1: it's James one thirteen through fifty. It says, when tempted,
- 23:52Speaker 1: no one should say God is tempted me, for God
- 23:53Speaker 1: cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone.
- 23:56Speaker 1: But each person is tempted when they are dragged away
- 23:58Speaker 1: by their own evil desire. And then after desire is conceived,
- 24:02Speaker 1: it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is
- 24:04Speaker 1: fully grown, gives birth to death. This all starts with, like,
- 24:08Speaker 1: what desire conceiving looks like? Is you feeding it with
- 24:11Speaker 1: a thought? You allowing it to stay in your mind,
- 24:14Speaker 1: You allowing yourself to daydream, to just start to feed
- 24:18Speaker 1: that thing, And you don't even realize what you're doing.
- 24:20Speaker 1: And here's what the lie is. Sometimes the lie is, well,
- 24:23Speaker 1: if I just satisfy this desire, now it'll go away
- 24:25Speaker 1: and it'll be less. No, the more you use quote
- 24:27Speaker 1: unquote satisfy it, the more it grows and the heart
- 24:30Speaker 1: it becomes to kill. So the first time that you go,
- 24:32Speaker 1: you know what, I'm not gonna look at this, there's
- 24:34Speaker 1: this girl at the gym, then she's working out by me,
- 24:36Speaker 1: and I'm gonna go find a weight rack the other
- 24:38Speaker 1: side of the thing because I'm gonna flee lust. It's hard,
- 24:41Speaker 1: but man, when you do it, guess what, You've just
- 24:43Speaker 1: won a victory. And the next time it becomes easier.
- 24:45Speaker 1: And that's how you begin to build what you said,
- 24:47Speaker 1: the let not. You strengthen that discipline, and then discipline
- 24:51Speaker 1: begets disciplined, as you said, ge. And so it starts
- 24:53Speaker 1: in the small place, and those small victories should be
- 24:55Speaker 1: celebrated because when you stack them on top of each other,
- 24:58Speaker 1: same way, you can train the bad thing, you can
- 24:59Speaker 1: train the right thing, and then it becomes more and
- 25:01Speaker 1: more of a habit that you just walk away from
- 25:03Speaker 1: the things that you know are going to kill you.
- 25:05Speaker 1: So how do you keep from destroying yourself? You realize
- 25:08Speaker 1: the dangers of the small things. You don't become complacent,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and you absolutely get on your knees. When you do fail,
- 25:14Speaker 1: you recover quickly. You repent. You ask God to God
- 25:17Speaker 1: to transform your heart and you continue to seek him.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Ask him to put the love of the Father in you,
- 25:21Speaker 1: that you would love the things and eagerly desire the
- 25:23Speaker 1: things that He has for you. Ask for his perspective
- 25:26Speaker 1: on things, and God is good when you ask. Don't
- 25:28Speaker 1: doubt know that he will answer, because He's told you
- 25:30Speaker 1: if you seek me with all of your heart, you
- 25:32Speaker 1: will find it says the Lord will confide in those
- 25:35Speaker 1: who have the fear of the Lord. So grow in
- 25:37Speaker 1: the fear of the Lord, grow and seeking him and
- 25:39Speaker 1: in your love, and God will deliver you to overcome
- 25:42Speaker 1: those things, so that when the little temptations come, you
- 25:44Speaker 1: recognize them and you kill the beast when it's small,
- 25:46Speaker 1: so that you can be the person that stands in victory.
