- 4:52SPEAKER_12: Apologies and alibis.
- 4:54SPEAKER_12: I'm listening to the replay of the episode last week, and I'm listening to me go, yeah, we had 50 of the 2,000 runners at Burden Hand, that's 5%.
- 5:04SPEAKER_12: And I'm listening, I'm going, no, it's not.
- 5:07SPEAKER_12: It's not 5%.
- 5:08SPEAKER_12: It'd be 5% of a thousand, but it's not 5% of 2,000.
- 5:11SPEAKER_12: What the heck was I thinking?
- 5:13SPEAKER_12: Then how come nobody jumped in?
- 5:15SPEAKER_12: Jack, why didn't you jump in to correct me on that?
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: You know, Bob, I I I listen and I nod, and you know, you always sound great when you talk, and I probably honestly didn't even notice it either.
- 5:27SPEAKER_12: So I'm not blaming you, Jack.
- 5:31SPEAKER_12: I just yeah, I it uh anyway.
- 5:34SPEAKER_12: Yes, I can do numbers.
- 5:36SPEAKER_12: Didn't do them good that time.
- 5:39SPEAKER_12: Hey, but I did get this part right.
- 5:41SPEAKER_12: Pennsylvania is in fact, I looked it up, it is in fact the pretzel capital of the country, with 80% of the pretzels made in the U.S.
- 5:50SPEAKER_12: are made in Pennsylvania.
- 5:52SPEAKER_12: Reading.
- 5:52SPEAKER_12: Reading's a town a little bit west of Lancaster, and that is kind of the uh pretzel capital of the country.
- 6:00SPEAKER_12: Later in the episode, during the race report spotlight, we'll learn where the pumpkin capital of the U.S.
- 6:07SPEAKER_12: is.
- 6:07SPEAKER_12: So there you go.
- 6:08SPEAKER_12: Stay tuned.
- 6:09SPEAKER_12: Pretty exciting, huh?
- 6:10SPEAKER_12: How's that for a tease?
- 6:11SPEAKER_12: Man, what a tease.
- 6:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_12: People hanging on.
- 6:14SPEAKER_12: So uh hey Jack, before I go any further, what's new in YouTube?
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: Well, first off, we uh we have the Wilderness Lodge episode.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: So if you are staying over at Wilderness Lodge and you like to go for a run, I get to show you the running trail out there.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: We do have two episodes coming up.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: It might be uh maybe another two weeks before they do.
- 6:33SPEAKER_04: We'll see how um much time I have before I leave for my trip to have time to edit.
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: But essentially that will be the Oki West uh run, which was a lot of fun.
- 6:43SPEAKER_04: I've I've ran there before and it's lovely.
- 6:46SPEAKER_04: And uh we'll be talking about it later during the race report.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: But um the little race that I and uh two other friends did as a relay, the Hurricane 100k relay.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: Um I filmed some of it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: So you guys will be getting an actual race video uh within the coming weeks.
- 7:06SPEAKER_04: Uh cool.
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: So yeah, hopefully I'll have those done in about two weeks or so.
- 7:11SPEAKER_04: But um, I'll announce when they actually get you know up there.
- 7:16SPEAKER_04: But yeah, it's exciting.
- 7:18SPEAKER_12: Good stuff, Jack.
- 7:20SPEAKER_12: Thank you very much.
- 7:21SPEAKER_12: Friends, let's take a look at the training schedule.
- 7:24SPEAKER_12: Four weeks till wine and dine.
- 7:26SPEAKER_12: The excitement builds.
- 7:27SPEAKER_12: That's we're gonna spend a bunch of time this week talking about it.
- 7:32SPEAKER_12: Uh, have not looked at the meetup numbers recently.
- 7:36SPEAKER_12: Last I looked, there were 60 yeses in there.
- 7:38SPEAKER_12: That's a big number because if history is any indication, we always get nearly double the amount of people who say yes.
- 7:48SPEAKER_12: If you're and I have to always remind myself, some folks don't know what I'm talking about.
- 7:54SPEAKER_12: We have a group meetup in the food truck area of Disney Springs on the Saturday of all the race weekends.
- 8:02SPEAKER_12: It starts at 3 p.m.
- 8:05SPEAKER_12: We take a nice, wonderful, huge group photo at 3.30.
- 8:11SPEAKER_12: And then we hang around until we don't, which usually is, I don't know, 4:30, 5 o'clock.
- 8:16SPEAKER_12: People have dinner reservations, they start heading out.
- 8:19SPEAKER_12: It is a lot of fun, a lot of wonderful friendships have been made there.
- 8:24SPEAKER_12: Now, I know that many of our friends who are listening travel to Disney World with their families, and that Saturday afternoon is family time at the park.
- 8:35SPEAKER_12: I get it.
- 8:36SPEAKER_12: You can't make it.
- 8:37SPEAKER_12: I wish you could.
- 8:39SPEAKER_12: We don't have any other great solutions.
- 8:41SPEAKER_12: But if you can get over there, give it a try.
- 8:45SPEAKER_12: As I'm fond of saying, the folks who come always come back.
- 8:51SPEAKER_12: So we'll be talking about that for the next couple of weeks.
- 8:53SPEAKER_12: We're four weeks away from the race.
- 8:55SPEAKER_12: We are in training week 14.
- 8:57SPEAKER_12: This is getting towards the end of the training schedule.
- 9:00SPEAKER_12: So if you're running a challenge, you have a four-mile walk and a twelve and a half mile run.
- 9:07SPEAKER_12: Marathon weekend is not that far away.
- 9:11SPEAKER_12: Next time we meet, we'll be under 100 days.
- 9:13SPEAKER_12: Right now, we are 104 days to the 5K or to the expo, I believe it is.
- 9:20SPEAKER_12: Yeah, 104 days of the expo, 15 weeks to the 5k.
- 9:25SPEAKER_12: And I know like this math I can do 15 weeks is 105 days, so I'm off there somewhere.
- 9:30SPEAKER_12: What's 5% of that, Bob?
- 9:32SPEAKER_12: Oh 5% of what?
- 9:33SPEAKER_12: 15?
- 9:37SPEAKER_12: It's a 0.75, John.
- 9:39SPEAKER_12: Um we're in training week 13.
- 9:43SPEAKER_12: 5% of that is 0.65.
- 9:45SPEAKER_12: Um we're back to a three-mile run for your long run this week.
- 9:50SPEAKER_12: Now, those long runs and short runs, yo-yo, as we know from week to week here, the short ones are going to start going up a little bit.
- 9:59SPEAKER_12: But you should be your numbers should start going pretty well.
- 10:04SPEAKER_12: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 10:09SPEAKER_12: Disney gave us some stuff to talk about this week.
- 10:12SPEAKER_12: Thank goodness.
- 10:12SPEAKER_12: We appreciate Run Disney for doing that.
- 10:15SPEAKER_12: Let's talk about the one that everybody's all excited about, and that of course would be the hint we got for the virtual theme for the Christmas.
- 10:22SPEAKER_12: I thought you were gonna say Star Wars weekend, Bob, but I'm wondering epic.
- 10:26SPEAKER_04: Could you imagine?
- 10:29SPEAKER_12: Well, we get we got I think it was this morning.
- 10:32SPEAKER_12: Well, we get an email or we saw a post.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: I saw it on Instagram.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: So did I.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: I think it was actually a reel that they posted, but basically it was uh a post for the Christmas race virtual races for this season.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: Um and they gave us a sneak peek at the theme of it, which is going to be Stitch.
- 11:00SPEAKER_12: Stitch.
- 11:01SPEAKER_12: Never heard of 'em.
- 11:03SPEAKER_12: All right, I've heard of them.
- 11:05SPEAKER_12: I've seen them recently.
- 11:07SPEAKER_12: I did see that, but that's all I saw.
- 11:11SPEAKER_12: Did we get any information as to you know what would be in the package or what the cost would be or anything like that?
- 11:20SPEAKER_11: I think we got registration, right?
- 11:22SPEAKER_11: Or is that what that I think that's about it?
- 11:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because registration opens up on October 6th.
- 11:29SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: So yes, that's the only thing that we know so far is that it'll be happening December 1st through the 31st of the 12Ks of Christmas, and registration opens October 6th.
- 11:42SPEAKER_12: So that's uh that's probably two weeks from today.
- 11:46SPEAKER_12: Two weeks from the day that we're recording.
- 11:47SPEAKER_12: It may be Tuesday.
- 11:48SPEAKER_12: They they open it's not Tuesday.
- 11:51SPEAKER_12: Any thoughts, gang?
- 11:52SPEAKER_12: I mean, I don't think the I don't know.
- 11:54SPEAKER_12: The virtuals do sell out, but I don't think they sell out first day, do they?
- 11:58SPEAKER_11: Oh, these will sell out.
- 11:59SPEAKER_11: I think the last one sold out first day.
- 12:01SPEAKER_11: They uh didn't really the sprint summertime ones sold out first day.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: The summer ones had such an amazing theme, though.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: I like Stitch, but I think that there's I mean, there's a lot of people that like Stitch, so I do think that it will sell out.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Um but I I guess I kind of hoped that it would be a new character.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Even though I I I do genuinely love Stitch.
- 12:25SPEAKER_12: No, I understand what you're saying.
- 12:27SPEAKER_12: Get a little variety, get something different.
- 12:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I I can see them doing some type of you know play on Melekamikimaka, you know, in terms of you know Hawaiian Christmas celebrations and such with Stitch, which okay, cool angle there, but yeah, Alicia, I'm right there with you.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: Run Disney, if you're listening, there are other characters in your IP portfolio that that you can use.
- 12:50SPEAKER_05: I mean, we just had Stitches Ohana Challenge for Springtime Surprise, and I you know, I know it's been in there you know a couple of other times too.
- 12:58SPEAKER_05: So that there's there's plenty of other things.
- 12:59SPEAKER_05: I mean, obviously, we all know about the rant I went on last year about how it was we get it was them up at Christmas Carol.
- 13:06SPEAKER_05: So again, another You did I oh I did just just a little bit, yeah.
- 13:11SPEAKER_12: Um at least you remember him doing that.
- 13:14SPEAKER_12: Hmm.
- 13:15SPEAKER_05: Vaguely, yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_05: So I you know to me, I I feel like there are other intellectual properties that they could have gone with here.
- 13:25SPEAKER_05: I mean, like, even if you want to go with like the Fab Five characters, I mean, you do have you know Mickey's Christmas Carol, you know, that that easily could have been done and such, but at the same time, though, Stitch makes them a boatload of money.
- 13:38SPEAKER_05: The movie made over a billion dollars, they're putting out a sequel, so like I get the Grinch would have been a good idea, Greg.
- 13:47SPEAKER_05: Uh, I I think you have your movie studios there mixed up too.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think so.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: But I I would love Grinch, but that yeah, that's not the right theme park.
- 13:56SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's that's the other park, Greg.
- 13:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's the other park.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: Oh, but like also, like they have, I don't know if you guys remember, but they had a Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special.
- 14:09SPEAKER_05: Oh, yes.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: They could have done that.
- 14:11SPEAKER_04: I mean, they have Guardians of the Galaxy in two theme parks, one in Disneyland, one here.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: It's not in the international ones, I don't think.
- 14:23SPEAKER_11: I don't know about that.
- 14:24SPEAKER_04: No, but still, like they just celebrated it September 21st, September day yesterday at Monday.
- 14:32SPEAKER_04: Um it was such a big thing, huh?
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: No, you remember no we thought about remembering and then we saw it was like a two to three hour wait for most of the day.
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: So but um no, but like that would have been so fun and unique, and and I agree with Alicia and you guys, I just I'm I'm ready for a little bit of a change of care.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_12: But until Greg said melee kaliki maka, and then all of a sudden I thought, wait a minute, they may have something kind of cute here if they go with that.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it can be cute.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: I I want to see the medals and see more of the theme, which I think we'll see very shortly.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah, I I definitely think it will be cute.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: I think that a number of people will will purchase it.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: But yeah, overall, I'm I do hope for hopefully next race season, there's some variations.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: Even I was thinking like variations of like when they do the virtual races.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: Like I know that they kind of switched up and did the Halloween ones this year, but like we've done Christmas time so much lately.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: I feel like maybe a different time.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 15:43SPEAKER_12: Anyone doing it?
- 15:44SPEAKER_12: Anybody going to sign up here?
- 15:46SPEAKER_05: I know Joe Joe's gonna do it for sure.
- 15:48SPEAKER_11: Uh actually, uh Joe Joe is getting upset because he had a doctor's appointment on October 6th.
- 15:58SPEAKER_11: But that he realized oh, he got the days mixed up.
- 16:02SPEAKER_11: He's actually at the doctor the day before, so he's he should be able to be able to do it.
- 16:06SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 16:07SPEAKER_12: Well, I'm glad he's doing it.
- 16:08SPEAKER_12: I mean I'm glad for anybody that enjoys doing it.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: I'm he's training for London.
- 16:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, but it's great.
- 16:14SPEAKER_11: It's it's great for the people that can't get to the races.
- 16:17SPEAKER_11: Well, absolutely.
- 16:18SPEAKER_11: If you if you want to kind of get involved, but you know, I mean, and and that and going back to that, that's why I still think they should put what they did for a while after COVID was give you the virtual give you the virtual medals for the races if you didn't get into it.
- 16:38SPEAKER_11: Because you know, people still want to get get involved, they get those medals, and they get a chance to do it.
- 16:45SPEAKER_12: I agree.
- 16:46SPEAKER_12: John, yeah, I agree, John.
- 16:47SPEAKER_12: That that would be a good idea.
- 16:48SPEAKER_12: That was a neat thing.
- 16:49SPEAKER_12: But so there you go, friends.
- 16:50SPEAKER_12: If you're interested in that, and I God bless you, I hope you enjoy it.
- 16:53SPEAKER_12: I really do.
- 16:54SPEAKER_12: And if you're if you're interested, I hope you get in.
- 16:58SPEAKER_12: And as we learn more, we'll share it.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
- 17:05SPEAKER_12: So that was the big news that Run Disney came out with, but they also, in their spare time, released the Wine and Dine Race Guide, which they almost never do on a Tuesday before 8 p.m.
- 17:19SPEAKER_12: But they did this yeah, so we get to jump on it.
- 17:23SPEAKER_12: So let's take the time, go through it right now.
- 17:27SPEAKER_12: We know many of our friends have seen it.
- 17:29SPEAKER_12: We know many of our friends have run this race before, but we got a lot of friends who haven't, and there are always a couple changes.
- 17:36SPEAKER_12: So let's start at the beginning.
- 17:39SPEAKER_12: A very good place to start.
- 17:41SPEAKER_12: Let's start with the expo.
- 17:42SPEAKER_12: Uh, and Greg's going to tell us what's going on with the expo this year.
- 17:46SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 17:46SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 17:47SPEAKER_05: So the Run Disney Health and Fitness Expo this year is occurring.
- 17:51SPEAKER_05: Uh, it starts on Thursday, October 22nd.
- 17:55SPEAKER_05: Here's our first new thing is that actually it opens an hour earlier than in years past.
- 18:04SPEAKER_05: So this year, um, on that first day, the expo is 9 a.m.
- 18:10SPEAKER_05: until 8 p.m.
- 18:11SPEAKER_05: So actually, I think they added an hour on both sides.
- 18:14SPEAKER_05: Uh, and again, I think the reason why they did this is to accommodate for that expanded 5k field.
- 18:21SPEAKER_05: Um, again, we're gonna be very interested to see how many people are part of that expansion, but we'll have to wait until the numbers get posted afterwards.
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: But again, so yeah, the first day of the expo, October 22nd, 9 a.m.
- 18:34SPEAKER_05: to 8 p.m.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: Then on Friday the 23rd, same hours as usual, uh, noon until 7 p.m.
- 18:42SPEAKER_05: And then on Saturday, October 24th, the expo is open from 11 a.m.
- 18:48SPEAKER_05: to 3 p.m.
- 18:50SPEAKER_05: Now, obviously, one of the big things outside of picking up your bib and getting your shirt, obviously, is the Run Disney race merch.
- 18:59SPEAKER_05: And as per the last couple of race weekends uh over the past several years, they will be using a virtual queue on the first day for that Run Disney merch as well as the Brooks running shoes.
- 19:12SPEAKER_05: So now we actually come to the second change uh in terms of this race weekend, and again, it applies to the virtual queue here.
- 19:22SPEAKER_05: In years past, uh, you used to be able to join the virtual queue at 8:30 in the morning on Thursday.
- 19:28SPEAKER_05: But now, just like those old school days of when you know Lightning Lanes and Genie Plus uh first joined us, you will be joining that virtual queue at 7 a.m.
- 19:41SPEAKER_05: Uh again, this is on Thursday, October 22nd.
- 19:44SPEAKER_05: But there will also be a second drop at 1 p.m.
- 19:48SPEAKER_05: in the afternoon.
- 19:49SPEAKER_05: Uh be aware you can only join the virtual queue once, and then when you are selecting your party, you can have up to a maximum of six people.
- 19:59SPEAKER_05: Uh, once your group has been called, you have roughly about an hour uh to go check in at the Avent Health Arena.
- 20:05SPEAKER_05: Again, that is the first massive structure uh that you will approach as you're making your way into the complex, and that will be on your right hand side.
- 20:14SPEAKER_05: That's where all the Run Disney merch is, as well as the Brooks running shoes.
- 20:19SPEAKER_05: The fun part is we have not seen the new designs uh for one and nine.
- 20:24SPEAKER_05: Hopefully, we'll be getting those in the next couple of weeks here.
- 20:27SPEAKER_05: But um, as uh usual, you will be able to try on other base models of the Brooks running shoes uh before you go ahead and purchase.
- 20:38SPEAKER_05: But if say you already know what you need, um, then you just need to get the little slip of paper to mark down the style and the size that you want uh again and get that order form filled out before purchasing.
- 20:51SPEAKER_05: And again, there are no discounts uh for the Brooks Running Shoes.
- 20:56SPEAKER_05: So again, if you have uh an annual pass or you are a DVC member, those discounts will apply.
- 21:02SPEAKER_05: But they will apply, though, to uh the Run Disney merch.
- 21:05SPEAKER_12: Now, with the shoes, Greg, the last couple of races, we haven't seen the shoes until race week or close to it.
- 21:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 21:13SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 21:13SPEAKER_05: So hopefully we'll we'll get the chance to the chat about those before uh before everyone travels down for wine and dine.
- 21:20SPEAKER_05: Our third change in terms of the expo, this applies to our friends who are part of Club Run Disney.
- 21:28SPEAKER_05: So if you are a platinum member, you will actually be able to start your shopping.
- 21:33SPEAKER_05: And I believe they actually have a special area where you can get your bib and your shirts or whatever, so you don't have to go all throughout.
- 21:39SPEAKER_05: That starts at 7 a.m.
- 21:41SPEAKER_05: on Thursday.
- 21:43SPEAKER_05: And if you are a gold member, uh your shopping and bib pickup can begin at 7 30 in the morning.
- 21:50SPEAKER_05: Now, here's an important note though technically, the transportation, the bus transportation from your Disney resort does not begin.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Until 8 15 in the morning.
- 22:02SPEAKER_05: So if you are one of those platinum or goal uh club run Disney members, you probably will either have to drive yourself or get some type of ride share over to the expo.
- 22:14SPEAKER_05: Uh next thing that is new is that if, and now this only applies if you are just running only the 10K, is on Thursday, your bib and shirt pickup will be located in the field house, not the athletic center.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: Because I think what they're trying, yeah.
- 22:37SPEAKER_05: So I think so the athletic center is where all the vendors are, where you can go to the Galloway booth, the Fluffy Fizsies booth, and and you know the BBB uh Brook booth, all of our friends over there.
- 22:48SPEAKER_05: I think probably what they're doing there is they're trying to accommodate as much space for the 5k shirt pickup.
- 22:56SPEAKER_05: But then there is a slightly different map than um for uh for Friday and Saturday, where you'll be able to then pick up all the shirts all in a one location with the vendors in the Athletic Center.
- 23:09SPEAKER_05: Be sure to fill out your event waiver um online on your Run Disney account.
- 23:15SPEAKER_05: Our international friends, um, you have to fill out the paper version at the expo.
- 23:20SPEAKER_05: Uh, last note here is the expo check-in pass, which uh you have to show along with a photo identification to pick up your bib.
- 23:29SPEAKER_05: Uh, those are going to be uh emailed out and accessed on your Run Disney account, and that will be occurring on Monday, October 19th.
- 23:39SPEAKER_05: Uh, so yeah, a couple of changes in there in terms of the expo, but that is all the important information that you need.
- 23:45SPEAKER_12: And those expo passes, you just keep them on your phone.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 23:49SPEAKER_05: And I even think you can add it to like the digital wallet on your phone.
- 23:52SPEAKER_05: So, you know, lots of different options there for you.
- 23:54SPEAKER_11: And with the virtual queue again, it's technically they say 45 miles from the uh the park.
- 24:02SPEAKER_11: So I don't know if there's a big circle out there, but yeah, but there's it's oh, there's a sign on Interstate 4, John.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: I would say, Jack, that would make a great YouTube video for the channel.
- 24:12SPEAKER_05: Is you just go to like major points like 45 miles from ESPN, and then you'll and then you can just start like making a pinpoint map.
- 24:20SPEAKER_05: That'd be great.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: I don't know, that sounds like a lot, but I could try it from my apartment.
- 24:25SPEAKER_12: You should be good.
- 24:25SPEAKER_12: You're already 45 miles.
- 24:26SPEAKER_12: Oh, you'll get in.
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:28SPEAKER_12: That actually applies to me.
- 24:30SPEAKER_12: I'm I'm driving over that morning, and I will not be within 45 minutes at 7:30 in the morning or whenever the virtual queue opens.
- 24:40SPEAKER_12: Seven.
- 24:40SPEAKER_12: Seven now.
- 24:41SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 24:41SPEAKER_12: Seven.
- 24:42SPEAKER_12: That really doesn't matter to me personally.
- 24:44SPEAKER_12: If I get in the virtual queue at all, it'll be at one.
- 24:47SPEAKER_12: And I don't know.
- 24:48SPEAKER_12: I've I've done enough of these that I don't get too excited, but that's me personally.
- 24:52SPEAKER_12: A lot of people really, really want to get in there too.
- 24:56SPEAKER_11: Until they have those goofy shoes this year, and Bob's gonna go, okay.
- 25:01SPEAKER_12: You could be right, because uh I I've made up my mind.
- 25:05SPEAKER_12: I I've got two pair of Mickey shoes, they're great.
- 25:08SPEAKER_12: I don't need more.
- 25:09SPEAKER_12: But yeah, you're right.
- 25:10SPEAKER_12: If they come up with a goofy shoe, I may have to waver a little bit.
- 25:13SPEAKER_12: We'll see how it goes.
- 25:14SPEAKER_12: I'll let you well, I won't I won't let you know.
- 25:17SPEAKER_12: You'll know.
- 25:17SPEAKER_11: Uh well, you know what, Bob?
- 25:19SPEAKER_11: I doubt that they'll sell out of your size goofy shoes.
- 25:23SPEAKER_12: Well, I I think my size goofy shoes are real-to-life goofy shoes, I think.
- 25:30SPEAKER_12: And let's move along.
- 25:31SPEAKER_12: This is the one that's kind of interesting too the 5k.
- 25:34SPEAKER_12: Now, a couple of things occur here.
- 25:37SPEAKER_12: The uh expo occurs on well, occur it be starts on October 22nd, the fifth anniversary of Rise and Run.
- 25:49SPEAKER_12: Our first episode released on October 22nd, 2021.
- 25:54SPEAKER_12: The 5K is on John's birthday.
- 25:56SPEAKER_12: Yay, John.
- 25:58SPEAKER_05: Is there gonna be cake at both the expo and the 5K to celebrate both of these occasions?
- 26:03SPEAKER_12: Better be.
- 26:04SPEAKER_12: I mean, I think Run Disney should do that for us.
- 26:07SPEAKER_12: I know.
- 26:08SPEAKER_12: We're good to them.
- 26:09SPEAKER_12: Let's let's take a look at the logistics here, the the nuts and bolts bus transportation.
- 26:14SPEAKER_12: It's gonna start at 2 30.
- 26:16SPEAKER_12: That's pre-early, but not crazy early.
- 26:20SPEAKER_12: We've seen them heck, we've seen marathon weekend buses start at 2.
- 26:25SPEAKER_12: You got the stark groups.
- 26:26SPEAKER_12: Now this was interesting that the stark groups were announced today.
- 26:31SPEAKER_12: Those of us who are doing the 5K know what stark group, what what corral or what stark group we're in.
- 26:36SPEAKER_12: They go from letter A through G.
- 26:40SPEAKER_12: And in groups, A, B, and C, the corrals open at 3 15.
- 26:50SPEAKER_12: Man, that's early.
- 26:52SPEAKER_12: That's early.
- 26:54SPEAKER_12: If you're in group D and E, D or E, it opens at 4 45.
- 26:57SPEAKER_12: And if you're in F or G, which are the last two groups, the corrals open at 6 a.m.
- 27:04SPEAKER_12: Then that's not when the race starts.
- 27:06SPEAKER_12: That's when the corrals open.
- 27:08SPEAKER_12: Run Disney's telling you to be there an hour before your corral group opens.
- 27:14SPEAKER_12: We'll see.
- 27:15SPEAKER_05: Well, actually, correction, Bob.
- 27:16SPEAKER_05: They're saying to arrive one hour before your race starts.
- 27:21SPEAKER_05: Oh, really?
- 27:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so but in theory, though, that's rough that's roughly your start group opening is about roughly an hour before your race starts.
- 27:34SPEAKER_12: So Yeah, I'm who do you think's gonna pay attention to that, Greg?
- 27:38SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I I have no idea.
- 27:39SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 27:40SPEAKER_12: I can see people at the bus, you know, getting ready to go over.
- 27:43SPEAKER_12: Oh no, this will get me there uh an hour and ten minutes.
- 27:46SPEAKER_12: No, no.
- 27:46SPEAKER_12: I don't see that happening.
- 27:48SPEAKER_12: Uh, I'm driving over.
- 27:50SPEAKER_12: I'll get there when I get there.
- 27:52SPEAKER_12: Uh let us see though.
- 27:54SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that's what they're asking.
- 27:55SPEAKER_12: Let's play it right.
- 27:56SPEAKER_12: That's what they're asking.
- 27:57SPEAKER_12: Your race bib's going to be different this year.
- 28:01SPEAKER_12: You've always had a tear-off tag on the top, and you'll have it again for the 10k and for the half.
- 28:07SPEAKER_12: That's the one that shows the size for your t-shirt.
- 28:10SPEAKER_12: You're gonna tear that off when you get your t-shirt.
- 28:13SPEAKER_12: This time you got a tear off on the bottom that's got your start group and start time in it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_12: I don't know if it's the start time or the corral open.
- 28:21SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 28:22SPEAKER_12: It's got a time in it.
- 28:24SPEAKER_05: It's the uh start group open, I believe.
- 28:26SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 28:26SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 28:27SPEAKER_12: That you're going to need.
- 28:29SPEAKER_12: Now I'm I'm picturing handing that to the people who are checking you in at the corrals.
- 28:35SPEAKER_12: There's two places where you go by cast members.
- 28:38SPEAKER_12: One is just to get to the corral area, the second is to get into your corral.
- 28:43SPEAKER_12: I suspect, don't know, suspect you're going to hand that to the person when you go into your corral.
- 28:50SPEAKER_12: I believe, because I cannot think of any other reason to do this, the reason for that tag is to keep you from starting in group A, finishing your race, and then coming back and running in group F.
- 29:03SPEAKER_12: I don't know why else you'd have something like that.
- 29:05SPEAKER_11: But or D if you're quick.
- 29:06SPEAKER_12: Well, whatever, yes.
- 29:07SPEAKER_12: But but that's the uh that's the protocol this year.
- 29:12SPEAKER_12: Now, I also am not sure how this is going to work.
- 29:15SPEAKER_12: I'm gonna put it out here, we can talk about it in a second, okay?
- 29:19SPEAKER_12: If you look at the FAQs, and it will say you can't change your corral.
- 29:25SPEAKER_12: There will be no changes to the corral.
- 29:28SPEAKER_12: However, you can drop back to run with friends or family members if they're in a corral behind you.
- 29:36SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 29:37SPEAKER_12: I don't know how many people with a B corral are going to decide they want to sleep in and run in Corral G.
- 29:44SPEAKER_12: I guess we'll find out.
- 29:46SPEAKER_12: Let's talk about that in a minute.
- 29:48SPEAKER_12: Let's let's go on a little bit.
- 29:49SPEAKER_12: Disney's emphasizing the 16-minute per mile pace on the 5K.
- 29:53SPEAKER_12: That has always been there, friends.
- 29:55SPEAKER_12: Those rules have always been there, and for the 5K, they've really never been enforced.
- 30:01SPEAKER_12: It says you might get a course modification if you fall behind, and I think that's always been the case for the 5K too.
- 30:10SPEAKER_12: There are a couple places on the course.
- 30:13SPEAKER_12: The most obvious to me is around mile two, you could shorten the course in Epcot and head over to mile head over to the uh final section of the race relatively easily.
- 30:26SPEAKER_12: There's another place at mile one, but I can't imagine that you'd be so far behind at mile one that they'd need to shorten the course for you there.
- 30:35SPEAKER_12: But it's possible.
- 30:36SPEAKER_12: I don't think it's a big deal.
- 30:38SPEAKER_12: I don't think that's going to be a big deal.
- 30:42SPEAKER_12: But we don't know.
- 30:43SPEAKER_12: People also always ask about spectating.
- 30:45SPEAKER_12: There's only really one place to spectate for the 5k, it's a start-finish line.
- 30:49SPEAKER_12: The bus back to the resort.
- 30:52SPEAKER_12: You have to go back to the resort bus drop-off area where you began in the morning.
- 30:57SPEAKER_12: We knew they'd have to do something like this because typically the buses are on the course.
- 31:03SPEAKER_12: So they're going to go back to the drop-off area.
- 31:06SPEAKER_12: That's a little bit of a walk.
- 31:08SPEAKER_12: As for the course, it's pretty much a standard Run Disney 5K course.
- 31:12SPEAKER_12: Starts in the Epcot parking lot, takes a mile before you get into Epcot Proper proper to go around the world showcase, and then head back towards the finish area.
- 31:23SPEAKER_11: Bob, also something else that I did notice looking at the uh reunion area, there looks like there's two bib check areas this year, too.
- 31:32SPEAKER_11: One's for groups AC and F and G, and B is uh in a different area.
- 31:38SPEAKER_11: So I don't know if yeah, so I don't know if they're gonna be doing two different areas to check into, like a maybe a holding cell for the uh D and E people.
- 31:48SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 31:49SPEAKER_11: It's maybe I did notice I did notice that on the uh the spectator at the reunion area.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: So I have a couple of notes and and we'll get through them eventually, but the biggest thing that I'm questioning with this pull-off tag thing is a lot of people will get into the corral and then have the nervous jitters and have to go to the bathroom.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: If you've given this tag and you need that to get in any of the corral, how do you get back in?
- 32:26SPEAKER_11: I think it's the check-in.
- 32:27SPEAKER_11: So when nobody check in, they go, Let me see your bib.
- 32:30SPEAKER_11: Are you A, B, C, or D?
- 32:32SPEAKER_11: That's when you hand your tag to somebody.
- 32:34SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 32:34SPEAKER_11: Then once you're through the check-in area, that's when you're you're free to go.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: You mean the first check-in, like before you get the big area with like the party potties and stuff?
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: But then that how does that get you into because I thought the tag said the corral.
- 32:51SPEAKER_05: So no, so the the tag says the start, the start group opening.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: Start time.
- 32:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:59SPEAKER_05: So in theory, your bib is still going to show the letter of the start group that or corral or how whatever phraseology you want to use, it's still gonna be on there like the past.
- 33:11SPEAKER_05: So I think again, like as we were saying before, even before this all got changed, in theory, there have always been two checkpoints.
- 33:19SPEAKER_05: The one where you get it from the family reunion area where like just show us your bib.
- 33:24SPEAKER_05: So I think that is the area, like you know, near where like the food tent is and and all that jazz.
- 33:30SPEAKER_05: That's where you're gonna hand off the the tag, and then you'll be in that area with the porta potties and and the water and such.
- 33:39SPEAKER_05: And then the second checkpoint, like any other race weekend, is hey, let me see the letter on the top of your bib, and that's what's gonna get you into the gated off section.
- 33:49SPEAKER_05: So so yeah, once you rip off that tag, you're still gonna be able to go to the bathroom without an issue.
- 33:54SPEAKER_12: Definitely definitely possible, but the fact is we don't know.
- 33:58SPEAKER_12: Correct, yeah.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but okay, so we've also seen people like John just mentioned.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: So, is one of those gear check bags past that point?
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: Because so what if you forgot to check your bag and then you're like, oh shoot, but I still have time, and you go back through and come to the road.
- 34:17SPEAKER_11: Well, that's that'll have to, I guess, come with that when that problem.
- 34:20SPEAKER_12: Okay, yeah, that's yeah.
- 34:22SPEAKER_12: We're getting into some yeah, yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_12: I mean, it could happen, but they'll figure it out.
- 34:30SPEAKER_11: Wine and dine, we've noticed, is the testing ground for a lot of these new new things.
- 34:36SPEAKER_11: Because I guess the same thing's happening at well, yeah.
- 34:40SPEAKER_11: Rest of the season.
- 34:41SPEAKER_11: So this is a whole new ball game here.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: If you if you notice the 5k start times and uh the close times and the project, yeah, the it says the 5k projected race start time.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: There are two gaps in here.
- 34:56SPEAKER_04: So the for corral C, it ends at 5.11 for that race time, and then the next corral D does not start till 6 a.m.
- 35:05SPEAKER_04: So you have uh 49 minutes in between C and D of it starting, as well as uh Corral between corrals E and F because the last time it starts at E is at 6 38 a.m.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: And then there is a gap up until 7 30 a.m.
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: for group F.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: And I think that this is to allow the buses, so anybody who was in like the first few corrals to get on the bus and go head back to the resort because they're gonna have to clear that area for the buses to be able to go.
- 35:38SPEAKER_12: No, that's what we thought, but you you don't necessarily we wondered because the buses typically are on the course.
- 35:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:47SPEAKER_12: Not this year.
- 35:48SPEAKER_11: So if you if you look at the reunion area maps again, right in the event guide, for the 5k reunion area map, there is no bus buses on that map.
- 35:59SPEAKER_11: For the 10 and a half, the buses are parked where are marked where they are.
- 36:05SPEAKER_11: So we're assuming uh that the buses are gonna have to be somewhere else, not in the reunion area, to get back to your yeah.
- 36:13SPEAKER_05: You're you're just you're just walking back to where you got dropped off at.
- 36:16SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 36:16SPEAKER_05: Because that that's why that's why they're saying continuous transportation.
- 36:20SPEAKER_05: So in theory, as more, you know, so maybe if you were in star groups A, B, and C, you finish your race, you could you'll you'll get in line for your resort, and then there could be people coming off that are about ready to start the race, and you're gonna get onto the same bus that's gonna take you back to the resort.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: So, wait, why would they have that big gap then?
- 36:41SPEAKER_05: So my theory, Jack, in terms of why they have that gap, is number one for just course spacing in terms of the the actual race itself.
- 36:51SPEAKER_05: But in theory, I think what they're gonna do is maybe they're gonna change out those balloons.
- 36:58SPEAKER_05: You know how they have the really big colorful balloons with the uh the corral letters on them.
- 37:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, maybe.
- 37:04SPEAKER_05: I I think they might need some time to swap those out depending on on how big you know the the holding pen areas are.
- 37:10SPEAKER_05: So yeah, so I think it's all for for course pacing, but then also just other logistical things like that.
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah, resetting, yep.
- 37:18SPEAKER_11: And possibly a soft sweep.
- 37:21SPEAKER_11: Possibly, yes, maybe like like like you don't want a hundred people sitting still at the first character stop and the other start groups ready ready to go off.
- 37:32SPEAKER_11: You know, so I think that that's what I think that might be part of the thing, is like a a soft sweep so that these at least the front of the line is gone, so that these first character stops are f or what do you call carefree and you could actually get online.
- 37:48SPEAKER_12: I don't want to make anybody nervous about that.
- 37:51SPEAKER_04: I but I could totally see that.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: That makes perfect sense, John.
- 37:54SPEAKER_12: Yeah, but there's a lot of time.
- 37:56SPEAKER_12: I mean, we'll see.
- 37:57SPEAKER_05: Did did I see somewhere, and uh I could be wrong if I missed this part.
- 38:01SPEAKER_05: Are there going to be timing chips now?
- 38:04SPEAKER_05: Yes, on the on the 5k bib.
- 38:06SPEAKER_05: So so that is going to, I think, help them again with the logistics.
- 38:10SPEAKER_05: Maybe again, not necessarily soft sweeping, but you know, just being able to they'll have data to see, you know, where that's what I where where people are.
- 38:19SPEAKER_05: So I I think yeah, so in terms of the actual course itself, I've really with the expanded field, the fact that they are now publicizing, hey, you got it, you really do need to keep this pacing requirement, I think is really going to help these character lines.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: Now, if you're in those later star corrals, I think that might only really be able to afford you maybe one character stop as opposed to trying to hit them all.
- 38:48SPEAKER_05: But I'll be very interested to see what people's experiences are in terms of the uh the on-course entertainment.
- 38:54SPEAKER_11: Or they go back to the COVID style, it's a selfie in front of the character.
- 38:58SPEAKER_05: Which is a possibility, yeah.
- 39:00SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah, but I I don't see that happening either.
- 39:02SPEAKER_12: I don't know why that would.
- 39:03SPEAKER_12: Why would they do that?
- 39:06SPEAKER_11: They did it for a couple characters the last couple of years, though, too.
- 39:11SPEAKER_11: Well, where was it?
- 39:12SPEAKER_11: What was the one on the springtime they had the uh the the Muppet guy?
- 39:18SPEAKER_05: Oh, Sweetems.
- 39:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Sweetems.
- 39:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Sweetems was that wining dine two years ago.
- 39:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, a couple years ago.
- 39:23SPEAKER_11: Springtime, uh, what's her name?
- 39:24SPEAKER_11: Uh from uh Encanto was Oh Mirabelle was hanging up on the top over there, too.
- 39:29SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 39:30SPEAKER_11: You had selfie there.
- 39:31SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 39:32SPEAKER_12: Well, here's here's something I read in the uh race guide that maybe has been there before, but I didn't I never noticed it.
- 39:38SPEAKER_12: If you reach a mile marker with a red flag waving, it means you're behind the 16-minute pace.
- 39:45SPEAKER_12: Oh, I missed that part at any time.
- 39:48SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that's that's in the race guide.
- 39:50SPEAKER_12: Uh I don't recall ever seeing that.
- 39:52SPEAKER_12: I don't I've never seen that before.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and me neither.
- 39:54SPEAKER_12: Unfortunately, I've never seen a red flag waving, so I've been close.
- 39:58SPEAKER_12: I've never seen one.
- 39:59SPEAKER_11: I've seen balloon ladies behind me, but that's in front of me, John.
- 40:03SPEAKER_05: Now, the part I'm very interested in, Jack, going back to your uh points about transportation, is I'm very interested to see how park operations are going to happen from the end of this race to official park opening.
- 40:23SPEAKER_05: So I I just pulled up the Disney World calendar on the day of the 5k.
- 40:28SPEAKER_05: Now Epcot does have a delayed opening that day, but early entry begins at 9.30 in the morning.
- 40:38SPEAKER_05: Based on doesn't the last one start at correct, the the last runners will be on the course at 8 08 a.m.
- 40:48SPEAKER_05: Now, obviously at a 16-minute pace, yes, that is under 90 minutes, but that is a really tight gap in terms of the race finishing.
- 40:59SPEAKER_05: Can they clear it before official park opening?
- 41:02SPEAKER_05: And then because you have to go back to the resort bus area to get back to your resort, I'm gonna be interested to see if Run Disney is going to be using the same numbering system for the resort buses like they would do for any other park guest.
- 41:20SPEAKER_05: And then is there gonna be any confusion then as well too?
- 41:23SPEAKER_05: Because in theory, you're gonna have the official Disney resort buses now in that area, along with like the academy buses.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: Unless by that point it switches, because possibly that that's a good point.
- 41:36SPEAKER_11: It wouldn't matter really if I take the race bus back or the resort bus back.
- 41:40SPEAKER_11: I'm still getting back to my resort.
- 41:42SPEAKER_05: Correct.
- 41:42SPEAKER_05: And actually, and the other the other thing I thought of too is if you're in one of those later groups as well, too, you and you're staying at a monorail resort, that probably could save you a couple of steps because then you'd in theory would be able to take the monorail back from Epcot as opposed to having to walk all the way down to the buses.
- 42:02SPEAKER_05: True.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: Now, I will say, now going back to transportation again, because of all of these brand new logistics, there is one major thing that needs to happen, and I really hope it does, and that is I pray to God Myra is back at Pop Century.
- 42:18SPEAKER_05: Because if there is one person that can handle all of these logistical changes, it's her.
- 42:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you're getting people's hopes up, Greg.
- 42:26SPEAKER_11: But like I said, like you said, but Greg, you said 808's the last start time for the 5k, basically projected.
- 42:35SPEAKER_11: And you're a 16-minute mile, you're basically looking at a 50-minute 50-minute uh 5k, so it's gonna get a little tight over there.
- 42:43SPEAKER_11: Like you said, I mean, I mean, you know what?
- 42:45SPEAKER_11: Make a make a park reservation for Epcot that day.
- 42:48SPEAKER_11: If you're staying at like the boardwalk or then, just walk to the back.
- 42:52SPEAKER_12: Well, it's gonna be interesting.
- 42:55SPEAKER_12: It's gonna be interesting.
- 42:56SPEAKER_12: I don't know that we got the answer to a lot of questions.
- 42:59SPEAKER_12: We got the answers to how they're going to send us off, assuming that people do show up for Corral's A, B, and C.
- 43:06SPEAKER_12: Wouldn't that be funny if nobody did?
- 43:07SPEAKER_12: And they just Oh, yeah.
- 43:09SPEAKER_05: I mean, I'm being silly, but well, that but but no, that is that is a legit.
- 43:14SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 43:14SPEAKER_05: I I don't know if concern is is the right, but again, you know, depending on how big those holding pens are and in terms of course crowding, like I mean, yes, in theory, if you are going to be more strict on the 16-minute pacing and you have the timing chips, yes, that is gonna still move people through.
- 43:32SPEAKER_05: But again, you know, like you said, Bob, what if you got start group A and I don't I feel like sleeping in, does group E become massively, you know, inflated?
- 43:43SPEAKER_12: We'll have to wait and see.
- 43:45SPEAKER_12: It could.
- 43:46SPEAKER_12: Uh, I think the only question that we really answered that I wondered about was what was going to happen with the buses.
- 43:51SPEAKER_12: I thought they might reroute the course.
- 43:53SPEAKER_12: They I thought so too.
- 43:54SPEAKER_12: They've instead rerouted the buses, so to speak.
- 43:57SPEAKER_12: So there you go.
- 43:58SPEAKER_12: That that much we know.
- 44:00SPEAKER_12: And we know it starts early.
- 44:02SPEAKER_05: Now, I mean, the other thing that this does affect too, and we actually, to be honest, haven't really discussed this internally either, is because of all the different varying start groups, in theory, we can't tell friends, hey, we're gonna meet at the left side of the bleachers starting at such and such time.
- 44:20SPEAKER_05: I guess, you know, kind of like the buses, I guess it could be a continual meetup prior to the race to the left-hand side of the bleachers for the 5K.
- 44:28SPEAKER_05: But in theory, you know, when we were all chatting internally, like John, you're you're in a group ahead of Bob.
- 44:34SPEAKER_05: No, I'm I'm behind Bob.
- 44:35SPEAKER_05: I mean you're behind Bob, okay.
- 44:37SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 44:38SPEAKER_12: I'm gonna show up for the first Stark group.
- 44:40SPEAKER_12: I'm gonna do my race at a leisurely pace, and I'll be back to greet the people who are in the last Stark group.
- 44:47SPEAKER_12: So I'll be there for two of the three.
- 44:49SPEAKER_12: Uh you're in the last Stark group, right, John?
- 44:52SPEAKER_11: No, I'm in the middle.
- 44:53SPEAKER_11: I'm in the middle.
- 44:54SPEAKER_11: Oh, there you go.
- 44:55SPEAKER_11: We got it covered.
- 44:56SPEAKER_11: I um but I like I said, I mean, I'm kind of like a little kind of not happy about it, but I mean, six six twenty-one start time basically for me.
- 45:08SPEAKER_11: We're basically close to being done with the race at that time.
- 45:14SPEAKER_05: You know what aren't what aren't you happy about?
- 45:16SPEAKER_05: I I I'm interested to hear this.
- 45:17SPEAKER_11: I mean, I I I'm looking at right now, so I basically say 7.30, I'll be done with the race, let's say, and right go if if I'm doing it, if I if I start at 6.38 and I have to do a 16-minute mile, I should be done about 7 30.
- 45:36SPEAKER_11: I'm not getting back to the resort until probably about eight eight o'clock, eight forty-five shower, get changed.
- 45:45SPEAKER_11: Now I'm, you know, before, obviously back at the resort by seven o'clock.
- 45:49SPEAKER_12: Here's one.
- 45:50SPEAKER_12: You know, we're always talking about we want night races back.
- 45:52SPEAKER_12: I'm gonna have a night race.
- 45:54SPEAKER_12: I'll have a day race.
- 45:55SPEAKER_12: The sun's not gonna be up by the time I get back.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: For those people, that brings a good point, though.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: For those people that are starting super, super early, be careful of your footing because I don't know if they've really thought about that.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: And our friends who are like faster paced that are in the dark have told us before that things aren't as well lit.
- 46:15SPEAKER_12: Well, that's true.
- 46:15SPEAKER_12: I mean, all the Disney races start in the dark, right?
- 46:18SPEAKER_12: They all do, so there's nothing new there.
- 46:21SPEAKER_12: Uh there's a there's a lot we're not gonna know until probably 10 a.m.
- 46:27SPEAKER_12: on the 23rd of October.
- 46:29SPEAKER_12: That doesn't mean it hasn't been fun to talk about, but I think we ought to move on to the rest of this uh race guide.
- 46:35SPEAKER_11: Okay, so coming up next is the 10K on Saturday.
- 46:40SPEAKER_11: This this time the buses will start leaving your resort at 3 o'clock in the morning.
- 46:44SPEAKER_11: So you do have a little time there.
- 46:47SPEAKER_11: So it's back to a normal Run Disney weekend.
- 46:50SPEAKER_11: And family area reunion area, which will should be in the same area now where you exit the uh the the finish line in the reunion area starts from 6:30 a.m.
- 47:00SPEAKER_11: to nine o'clock.
- 47:01SPEAKER_11: So that's when the buses for the uh park are gonna be go back and forth.
- 47:05SPEAKER_11: If you miss one of those buses, you gotta go to the front of the park and also find a resort bus back to your hotel.
- 47:12SPEAKER_11: Start groups are gonna be A through G, and the cur and the corrals open at 3.45, and all runners are gonna be on the course by approximately 6.19.
- 47:23SPEAKER_11: Spectating will only take place at the start and finish lines, but you can cheer at Epicot Resorts, but remember it's a quiet zone, so clap cheer quietly, cheer quietly, no cowbells, no air horns.
- 47:41SPEAKER_11: And looking at the course is uh it's it's changed from last year's 10k course a little bit because we don't go in front of Epcot, but we do little we're almost at two miles before we even get into the parks this year, which is kind of interesting.
- 48:00SPEAKER_11: But then you do the loop around World Showcase around the Epcot resort areas and back in through the park, but we're cutting back the old marathon path where we go on the side of Test Track back to the uh finish line.
- 48:16SPEAKER_11: So so is there anything else I missed that's happening on Saturday, Bob?
- 48:20SPEAKER_12: Why, John, the Rise and Run podcast meetup is Saturday afternoon.
- 48:27SPEAKER_12: I talked about it.
- 48:28SPEAKER_12: Uh yeah, I talked about it at the top.
- 48:30SPEAKER_12: I'll talk about it again.
- 48:32SPEAKER_12: We'll talk about it many times.
- 48:33SPEAKER_12: It's uh the food truck area of Disney Springs at 3 p.m.
- 48:38SPEAKER_12: Please join us.
- 48:39SPEAKER_12: We would absolutely love to see you there.
- 48:42SPEAKER_12: I know.
- 48:42SPEAKER_12: I know you're shy.
- 48:44SPEAKER_12: I know you don't like being around people that you don't know.
- 48:47SPEAKER_12: Trust me.
- 48:48SPEAKER_12: One of my favorite stories is a young lady showed up.
- 48:51SPEAKER_12: I usually hang around the perimeter looking for people who look lost.
- 48:56SPEAKER_12: And I said, Well, you're in the right place.
- 48:58SPEAKER_12: Here, let me introduce you to these two people.
- 49:02SPEAKER_12: I did.
- 49:03SPEAKER_12: I stepped away, and because I knew she was there for the first time, and I do not remember who this is, by the way, I just wanted to keep an eye to make sure she wasn't lonely.
- 49:11SPEAKER_12: She was not.
- 49:12SPEAKER_12: Every time I looked, she was talking with somebody else, and that is the way it is at these meetings.
- 49:18SPEAKER_12: Oh, you know, the burden hand we talked about last week?
- 49:21SPEAKER_12: I think all of those people met one another at a rise and run meetup.
- 49:26SPEAKER_12: Or most of them did.
- 49:27SPEAKER_12: So there you go.
- 49:29SPEAKER_12: Try to make it.
- 49:30SPEAKER_12: Uh, my wife makes the cookies.
- 49:32SPEAKER_12: Uh sometimes other people contribute to the cookies.
- 49:34SPEAKER_12: They don't need to, but sometimes they do.
- 49:36SPEAKER_12: There are other things there.
- 49:38SPEAKER_12: It's just a good time.
- 49:41SPEAKER_11: And what time's the group picture, Bob?
- 49:43SPEAKER_12: Three and a half.
- 49:44SPEAKER_12: Three and a half o'clock.
- 49:45SPEAKER_12: Three and a half o'clock.
- 49:46SPEAKER_12: Three thirty.
- 49:47SPEAKER_12: We try to stay to that pretty close.
- 49:49SPEAKER_12: So, you know, if you only have a couple minutes to get over, try to get there a little before 3 30 and hang out.
- 49:55SPEAKER_12: Uh but we uh we when we say we'd love to see you there, we genuinely meet it.
- 50:01SPEAKER_12: Mean it.
- 50:03SPEAKER_12: Uh I it's my favorite part of the weekend.
- 50:06SPEAKER_03: Moving on to Sunday, um, we have the Mary Poppins half marathon.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: Bus transportation from your Disney resort will begin at 2:30 a.m.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: Bus transportation from the family reunion area back to your resort after the race is available from 6 30 a.m.
- 50:25SPEAKER_03: until 10:30 a.m.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: Again, like John said, for the 10K, if you miss those times, then you'll have to walk back over and get one of the normal resort buses.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: Um the start groups are A through G for this race as well.
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: Um, and they open at 3:15 a.m.
- 50:44SPEAKER_03: All runners should be on the course again, approximately by 6.19 a.m.
- 50:49SPEAKER_03: Run Disney did add pace groups to the section of the event guide and shows the finished times, average pace and ratio that they will be using, which is kind of a nice feature that we haven't seen before.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: Um, if you're looking for spectating for the half marathon, you will only officially be able to spectate at the start and finish lines, but you could cheer at the quiet area of the boardwalk resort.
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: The courses for the half marathon compared to last year aren't um super different.
- 51:23SPEAKER_03: Um, the main differences are within Hollywood Studios um that we see the changes because of the construction that is there.
- 51:33SPEAKER_03: Um we do still go to Blizzard Beach parking lot, um, which unless they've changed it, will be one lane road there and one lane back.
- 51:45SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm hoping that they have a little bit better of tool to try and keep it so that it keeps moving better than last year, but um that is the half marathon course.
- 52:00SPEAKER_11: And there is one food stop on the marathon course in Blizzard Beach.
- 52:03SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's it's in the parking lot.
- 52:05SPEAKER_12: Candidly, the half marathon course is not if you love running through the parks, well, you're out of the park by mile five.
- 52:14SPEAKER_12: You don't get into the park until mile two when you get into Epcot.
- 52:18SPEAKER_12: You're out of Hollywood Studios by mile five.
- 52:21SPEAKER_12: And that's it till mile twelve.
- 52:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, but I I still think this is a you get more park time on this course than you do on Princess and Marathon Weekend.
- 52:32SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 52:33SPEAKER_12: But they make up for it by running down Main Street, right?
- 52:36SPEAKER_05: Correct.
- 52:37SPEAKER_05: So yeah, I I I really wish they would just bring back, you know, because you know, the the highlight of Wine and Dine years and years ago used to be it was the only half marathon that touched three parks, and they have not stepped foot side in Animal Kingdom during Wine and Dine in gosh, how many years?
- 52:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:55SPEAKER_11: They gotta but then they gotta start at Magic Kingdom now again, which I don't think they're ever gonna do.
- 52:59SPEAKER_05: Correct, which which is a bummer, but hopefully, hopefully they decide to get creative and change their minds in the future.
- 53:05SPEAKER_12: Hey, we'll still have fun.
- 53:06SPEAKER_12: Absolutely, we'll still run together, we'll still have a good time.
- 53:09SPEAKER_04: All right, you guys, you just completed the entire race weekend, but wait, there is more.
- 53:14SPEAKER_04: Of course, the post-race party that everybody should be looking forward to, a nice time to relax, have fun, and honestly have lower wait times for the attractions.
- 53:24SPEAKER_04: Um, so on October 1st, your post-race party tickets will be mailed out to all the runners that are running the half marathon and the two course challenge because those are included in your guys' race registration.
- 53:37SPEAKER_04: Um you should also be receiving with those same runners on October 15th the uh$15 digital gift card.
- 53:47SPEAKER_04: Um, that will be received via email.
- 53:49SPEAKER_04: I know it used to be sent to your your residence, but now it's email.
- 53:55SPEAKER_12: Yeah, don't forget to spend it.
- 53:57SPEAKER_12: A lot of us do.
- 53:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:59SPEAKER_12: I would spend it early because it's easy to forget.
- 54:02SPEAKER_11: What's a good thing you can do once you get that, put it in your digital wallet if you have uh if you have if you have a digital wallet on your phone so that it's there so you don't forget about it.
- 54:12SPEAKER_11: Buy your buy your Post Race cider with it.
- 54:14SPEAKER_12: Whatever, yeah.
- 54:15SPEAKER_12: Spend it at the expo for crying out loud, but don't don't leave it on the table.
- 54:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Disney doesn't give you free stuff often, so take advantage of it.
- 54:23SPEAKER_11: I think it only expires a week after the race, too.
- 54:25SPEAKER_11: So I think it's run along, yeah.
- 54:27SPEAKER_11: It's it's not permanent.
- 54:28SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 54:29SPEAKER_04: So now we get there, the party well, the party doesn't uh start till what was it?
- 54:35SPEAKER_12: 10 p.m.
- 54:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the party doesn't start necessarily till 10 p.m.
- 54:39SPEAKER_04: But with your ticket that Disney gives you, you can enter Epcot starting at 5 p.m.
- 54:46SPEAKER_04: And you can pick up your wristband for the party.
- 54:49SPEAKER_04: If you are in Epcot already before 5 p.m., you can go ahead and pick up your wristband for the party at World Showcase or in the overhang between Connection Cafe and Creation Shop.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: Um, like we said, the party doesn't start till 10 p.m.
- 55:04SPEAKER_04: So you get to enjoy the fireworks, have a nice time, be with some friends, and then the party starts.
- 55:09SPEAKER_04: And it goes to 1 a.m., you guys.
- 55:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's pretty awesome.
- 55:14SPEAKER_04: I think that's plenty of time, and I know there's usually some nice character meeting greets out there.
- 55:20SPEAKER_04: Um, it'll be a fun time.
- 55:22SPEAKER_04: So the rides that will be open and available for you to ride will be, of course, Remy's, Frozen Ever After, Soren, Guardians, Test Track, uh, Spaceship Earth, Grand Fiesta Tour, and I know everyone's favorite, Living with the Land.
- 55:38SPEAKER_04: Come on, you guys.
- 55:39SPEAKER_11: You know, it is a good one.
- 55:41SPEAKER_11: It's a it's a good ride.
- 55:42SPEAKER_11: You can relax relax on it and fall asleep because you just ran a half marathon and now you're the whole 10 o'clock at night.
- 55:49SPEAKER_04: That's a pretty good one.
- 55:49SPEAKER_04: Like it's a must-do for David and I.
- 55:52SPEAKER_04: When every time we go to Epcot, we always ride it.
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: That was my first ride I ever went on at Disney.
- 55:58SPEAKER_12: Is that a fact?
- 55:59SPEAKER_12: I love that.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: It's a great first ride.
- 56:03SPEAKER_04: Well, um, if you guys are using the buses to get back to the resorts um from the after party, they are running till 2 a.m.
- 56:11SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, that's pretty much it.
- 56:14SPEAKER_04: Go and have fun and celebrate.
- 56:16SPEAKER_05: And the one thing I just thought of, Jack, going back to the point about the tickets being sent to you in the mail, be very cognizant of sorting your mail because I know in years past, usually it's just in a very plain white envelope, like no Disney branding on it.
- 56:35SPEAKER_05: So if you get a uh you know, a very plain Jane letter from like Lake Buena Vista, Florida or something like that, yeah.
- 56:42SPEAKER_05: Yep, open it because that's where your ticket's going to be.
- 56:45SPEAKER_11: And also do yourself a favor, take a picture of the back of it so you get the code.
- 56:51SPEAKER_11: Because what what what you're gonna do like I did one year was leave it at my house on my desk, and then I'm calling my son and go, can you uh go to my desk and take this paper thing and uh take a picture of that code on the back and send it to me so I can link my uh ticket to my account.
- 57:08SPEAKER_12: Well, you could you can also link it in your My Disney experience when you first get it.
- 57:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah, then you yeah, when you first get it, then you've got it on your magic band if you still use a magic band.
- 57:16SPEAKER_11: But if you if if you're not sure you're gonna go, you don't want to link it yet.
- 57:19SPEAKER_11: Okay, it's it's one of those things you can do.
- 57:22SPEAKER_11: And I think also, if I'm not mistaken, it's only the bus that's gonna run to two o'clock.
- 57:26SPEAKER_11: I do not think the Skyliner's gonna be.
- 57:31SPEAKER_12: It kind of closes with the park, like 11 minutes.
- 57:34SPEAKER_12: 10 or 11, yeah.
- 57:35SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 57:36SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 57:36SPEAKER_04: And I just want to point this out, I just double checked the Run Disney website.
- 57:40SPEAKER_04: As of today, uh September 22nd, Disney is still selling those party tickets.
- 57:46SPEAKER_04: I do know one year they stopped selling like a week out before because they got sold out, but currently they still have it open for you to get.
- 57:53SPEAKER_04: So if you have family members that would like to join you during the race party or friends or whatever, it is still available for purchase on the Run Disney website.
- 58:03SPEAKER_11: We usually meet up uh at the uh I'm gonna say it right, the the Regal Eagle.
- 58:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 58:10SPEAKER_11: Not the Regal Beagle, that's another product altogether.
- 58:13SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 58:14SPEAKER_11: The Regal Eagle and uh hang out there till about 10 o'clock when it starts, and then we all find our little groups split up and either go to the dance party, go to some rides.
- 58:25SPEAKER_12: For for those who haven't been before, here's what's going to happen.
- 58:28SPEAKER_12: Epcot's going to do their fireworks show at 9 p.m.
- 58:33SPEAKER_12: and then close.
- 58:36SPEAKER_12: So everything's going to go dark until 10.
- 58:40SPEAKER_12: And at 10, everything will open back up, everything being everything that's going to open.
- 58:45SPEAKER_12: Most of the food and wine booths will reopen.
- 58:50SPEAKER_12: I I don't know how you figure that's not all of them, but most of them do.
- 58:53SPEAKER_12: Uh Jack told you the rides that will be open.
- 58:56SPEAKER_12: There'll be plenty that's open.
- 58:57SPEAKER_12: Now, in my experience, the first hour of this thing is pretty crazy crowded.
- 59:03SPEAKER_12: But if you can kind of hang around till 11, it really thins out.
- 59:08SPEAKER_11: And then people are still leaving the parks from the Illuminations illuminations, whatever the show's called this year.
- 59:14SPEAKER_05: Oh, John, don't say that.
- 59:15SPEAKER_05: Breaks my heart to hear Illuminations.
- 59:18SPEAKER_11: What's it called now?
- 59:18SPEAKER_11: Uh Luminous.
- 59:20SPEAKER_11: Luminous.
- 59:21SPEAKER_11: Once they leave, they're going back to the resorts.
- 59:23SPEAKER_11: People try to hop into some of the rides that are open and they get thrown out.
- 59:27SPEAKER_11: And then, you know, then like you said, Bob said, it gets nice and but the right the lines do get long, though.
- 59:33SPEAKER_11: The lines do get long.
- 59:34SPEAKER_11: So if you're going on Guardians or you want to do test track or some of these other other rides, I mean, at 10 o'clock, at 9 o'clock, you might be want to be at the area you want to go to.
- 59:47SPEAKER_12: Yeah, at 10 o'clock, the line will be long.
- 59:49SPEAKER_12: And it's no guarantee, but by 11 it starts to thin out.
- 59:53SPEAKER_12: If you're still there at midnight, God bless you.
- 59:55SPEAKER_12: I have never been there at midnight.
- 59:58SPEAKER_12: But it it will thin out, I promise.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_11: By that time, most of us are up to like almost almost 20 hours by that time.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say, Bob, what time do you recommend the post-race pre-party nap?
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_05: What what is a chunk of time?
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_05: Oh, for me, it's gonna be early.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_12: Like you're back to the hotel.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_12: Oh yes, oh yes, very definitely uh afternoon nap.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_12: Um hey, a couple closing thoughts.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_12: Coast to Coast Medal.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_12: I think this is the last time.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_12: This will be the last race that Coast to Coast medals will be awarded.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_12: So if you did the Disneyland half and you're doing the half marathon here, don't forget to get your Coast to Coast.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_12: And you won't forget.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_12: But that's it.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_12: After that, you're gonna be gone for a while.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_12: In the Expo guide, there's an expo goodie bag.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_12: Take a look at it.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_12: There are some deals there, there are some interesting things.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_12: There's a contest in there, and I don't remember who's sponsoring it.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_12: You can win a uh you can win entrance to a race.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_12: If you look at the official rules, if you go to the official rules, it ended in April of 2026, but I that's just because they didn't update.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_11: No, they updated it now, Bob.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_12: The rules weren't updated.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_12: On the front page, it does say it gives dates to 27.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_12: It does.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_12: But then when you click on the rules for it.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_12: Advent health.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_12: Okay, thank you, John.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_12: I I'm sure it's still active.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_12: Uh PhotoPass.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_12: The information for how to link your bib number to PhotoPass is on the back of your bib.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_12: You can do that early.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_12: Those photos get processed pretty quickly.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_12: And let's see, that's really oh, I have one more note.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_12: If you drive there, make good note of where you parked.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_12: And I I fell to this.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_12: Yeah, you drive in, you park, and it looks a whole lot different after the sun comes up than it did when you went in there when it was dark.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_12: So, you know, make sure you write down what park area and what aisle you're in.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_12: Otherwise, you'd be roaming around pressing the uh honk button on your car.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_12: All right, friends, so there you go.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_12: So we spent a good hour talking about things that for a good part of that hour we have no idea what's going to happen.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_12: But we still had fun.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_12: And the information that we give you does come straight out of the guide.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_12: So the information that we gave you that we know is right is right.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_12: Check the expo guide yourself.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_12: It's going to be a great weekend.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_12: We can't wait to see you there and kick off the 26-27 Run Disney race season.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_12: So, friends, now that we've gone through the guide, I'm golly, I meant to do this earlier.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_12: I meant to ask, what would Alicia do?
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Bob.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_03: Um, so this kind of goes with the season that we're going into.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_03: Um, being a healthcare professional, I feel like I would be not um a good place if I didn't mention it.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: But we are in cold and flu season.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: Um, and so I just wanted to remind people um to make sure that they're getting their flu vaccines, um, make sure they're washing their hands and um getting some vitamin C and extra rest in so that we can try and prevent um illness as we're going through these seasons.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_03: So we all get to these races because we put in so much effort and work to train for them.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_03: We want to make sure that we get to enjoy the races as well.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_12: Good point.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_12: You're going to be in close proximity with 20,000 of your best friends.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_12: Um, I always I know when I go to the pharmacy at a public supermarket, they're always saying, you know, the flu shots are available.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_12: I always tell them I get mine in early October, and I do it every year.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_12: So I'm always a year apart, and I do it, so I'm always about three or four weeks before we head down to Disney flu shot and COVID.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_12: COVID shot, I get them both.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_12: Perfect.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_12: And yeah, wash your hands, avoid high touch areas to the best of your ability.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_11: But I've high touch area in Disney, huh?
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_11: That's that's tough.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_03: That's why you have to wash your hands, John.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_12: I get to I get to I get to avoid some of them.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_11: But uh, yeah, you always you can press you can press the top of the door with the bottom.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_11: I do, I do too.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_12: All right, Alicia, good point.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_12: I agree completely because that's what Alicia would do.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_12: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_12: So, John, what's new on the Ryzen Run race shirts for this season?
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_11: Our pre-sale is ending on Friday.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_11: So if you want one of our new race shirts, uh please get your orders in by Friday so we can start processing those orders and getting them out and getting them out as quickly as possible.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_11: Uh we're saying they're probably gonna ship on October 25th.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_11: But if the printer and everything happens and the turnarounds quicker, you might have them before the weekend, but I am not guaranteeing that we can I don't want to get anyone's hopes up too high.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_11: But please, if you're gonna order, please order because I you know this is what we're gonna do, and we're not sure if we're gonna get another pre-order this year, but if you want to get them, just get them now.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_12: Speaking of shirts, friends, we have the 5K coming up at Marathon Weekend.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_12: It's probably gonna be a whole lot like the 5K at uh wine and dine.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_12: So we don't know if we're all gonna be together, but the theme for our 5K shirts is the penguins from Mary Poppins.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_12: They're available, of course.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_12: Our friend Alec at Kawaiian Pizzaaparel.com.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_12: Women and men's shirts, extra small to extra large, are 32.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_12: And three extra 34.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_12: She does have kids' shirts.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_12: If you're interested, just let her know.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_12: Shipping's around five dollars.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_12: I always remind our friends that we've got a discount code with Alec, which is Rise and Run.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_12: It does not work on the penguin shirt, but if you order something else from her, that discount code would work.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_12: At which point you'd be over$50 for your order.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_12: You could use her code FreeShip50, and the whole order would ship for free.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_12: Good quality stuff, lots of fun to have everybody dress together.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_12: We'll see how it goes.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_12: Looking at other races, and I'm always happy to publicize these.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_12: I don't get to everyone every week.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_12: Let me just hit some of the highlights.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_12: Our friend Roxanne has told me that if you're a Peloton user, a Peloton bike user, there is a rise and run Peloton team.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_12: Did you guys know that?
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_05: Did you create that, Greg?
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_03: Greg created it, I think.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_05: I think I, yeah, I think I did a while ago.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_05: I I'll be honest, I have not been on my Peloton in many, many moons.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_05: I'm sure it's uh thanks, Roxanne, for reminding me that's still out there.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_12: Well, Roxanne's pretty excited about it.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_12: She's got a and she's got a number of people in there.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_11: Um, how many shirts are on your Peloton, Greg, right now?
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_11: None.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_12: We do have a race this weekend.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_12: The Margaritaville Run 5K, 10K and half.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_12: Galloway Pacers, Mark, Adam, and Jack will be there.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_12: Now that's this weekend.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_12: That's uh that's the 25th.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_12: That's a Friday race, right, Jack?
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_04: Saturday.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_12: Saturday, okay.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_12: I may have the wrong date then.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_12: I see Team Rise and Run for the uh Rise and Run 5K in Kissimmee is up to seven people.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_12: If you're in the Orlando area, I'm gonna be there.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_12: Jack's gonna be there.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_12: That's October 27th.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_12: We've got some others I've talked about, and I think nothing else is new or imminent.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_12: Let's here's the one on Halloween.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_12: Uh Lessa in Kingsport, Tennessee, the haunted half and relays.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_12: Looks like a fun event if you're in the Tennessee area.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_12: She's got a code Lessa L E S S A 423 for that race.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_12: And the rest of them we'll get to in later weeks.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_12: Two more announcements.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_12: Our friends at Fluffy Fizzies have their wine and dine collection available.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_12: Check them out at fluffyfiz.com.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_12: We got a code there too, happy running for a discount on your order from Fluffy Fizzies.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_12: We, along with several other social media folks, got a message from the people at Eats.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_12: That's Manit Showan's restaurant in Disney Springs.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_12: They they wanted to reach out to us and share that they're hosting an event at Eat during Wine Dine weekend.

- 1:08:55SPEAKER_12: They got food stations.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_12: Uh Lisa will be there signing her book.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_12: Lisa was with us a couple weeks ago.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_12: They got wine from Fitvine Wines and plenty of time to hang out and connect before the weekend really gets underway.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_12: Uh, tickets are on sale for that.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_12: I don't think we have a link on our Facebook group page, but I will make sure to get us one there.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_12: So a portion of their ticket sales go to Kelsey's Hope.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_12: Probably going to be a fun time.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_12: All right, next Zoom call.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_12: Our next Zoom call is actually September 30th, Wednesday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_12: I call that the EuroZoom.

- 1:09:40SPEAKER_12: Uh our next Zoom here locally will be the following day, Thursday, October 2nd, of course, at 8 p.m.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_12: For the EuroZoom, it'll be the last one before wine and dine.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_12: We'll have at least one more, well, not at least one more, we'll have exactly one more zoom here stateside before we all head to the park for the races.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_12: And now please stand clear of the door.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_12: It's time for a race report.

- 1:10:27SPEAKER_12: Tom's into week two of the Finish Strong Four-week challenge.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_12: In fact, earlier this evening, I sat and Tom gave a great presentation on strength training and why it's so helpful to runners.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_12: Tom really does.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_12: I say it every week, and I say it because I mean it.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_12: He does a great job with these things.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_12: So you can check him out.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_12: He's got their got other options than the challenges that you can work with Tom Stokes.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_12: Long race report, and that's wonderful, friends.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_12: I love the fact that you're sending them in.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_12: I promise I read them.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_12: I really appreciate them.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_12: But because we have so many, uh I have to shorten things a little bit and just hit the highlights from your reports.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_12: And I also sometimes have to guess what day the race is on.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_12: I know you know what day it's on, but you don't always say what day it's on.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_12: Sometimes it's easy.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_12: It depends on when I get them.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_12: If I get them on Monday or Tuesday, sometimes I have to guess.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_12: So if I'm wrong, please forgive me.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_12: At least we will acknowledge that you made your race.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_12: But let's start on Friday.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_12: And I know this race occurred on Friday.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_12: It's the Hollow Scream 5K at SeaWorld.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_12: It's a midnight race at SeaWorld, Orlando.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_12: Tracy was there.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_12: Race number one of the weekend.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_12: It's her first time doing this SeaWorld race.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_12: She dressed up with her boyfriend, ran a with a couple of other Run Disney friends as well, and then saw a bunch afterward.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_12: Mary, race one of the weekend for Mary.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_12: Third time running this one for her.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_12: Always fun.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_12: Registration includes tickets to Howlows Scream that night.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_12: And Heather, first race of the weekend for Heather.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_12: She PR'd this one.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_12: PR'd her 5K rolling.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_12: And Dad was with her for this one.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_12: Moving to Saturday, we go to Charlottesville, Virginia, where David was at the Special Olympics 10K.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_12: He's done this for the past several years, likes the nice route through the neighborhoods.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_12: The hills aren't too bad.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_12: But he's always glad when he sees the finish line.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_12: About a mile off his PR, but that's enough for third in his age group with a prize cup and a Trader Joe's gift card.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_12: Good for you, David.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_12: Derek ran a half marathon in Marble Falls, Texas, the Golden Harvest half.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_12: Back in Orlando, the Miles to Go, Fifth Annual 5K.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_12: We talked about this one a couple times.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_12: Now, Tracy, this is race number two.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_12: She took a four-hour nap after Howlow Scream, headed to this one.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_12: She's on the planning committee for this one.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_12: The weather was great.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_12: The after party was the biggest yet.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_12: The highlight for Tracy was meeting one of her baseball heroes, Johnny Damon.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_12: I remember Johnny playing for the Red Sox and the Yankees, didn't he?
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_05: And the Yankees, correct?
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_12: Good ball player, not a Hall of Famer.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_05: He was he was a copycat for uh Jesus when he played for the Red Sox, then when he got any when he beside the Yankees, they made him shave everything off.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_11: Big help in 2009 for us.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_11: He was a good ball player.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_11: Yes, he was.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_12: Very, very good solid ball player.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_12: Mary was there.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_12: She ran with her mom and daughter, Donna, and paced Donna to a 5K PR.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_12: Heather was there.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_12: Second race of the weekend.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_12: Decidedly not a PR, says Heather.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_12: Catherine ran Joshua's Wish 5K, but I don't know where that was, but she did it.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_12: It's a race to end childhood to cancer.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_12: Had great weather wherever it was, and a nice course, even if it was a cross-country course with dirt.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_12: Ooh.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_12: Placed first in her age group.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_12: Ran into some Run Disney royalty.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_12: Andrew the Puppet Runner, who also placed in his age group.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_12: Good first race back since some injuries for Catherine.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_12: Can't wait to see everybody in a couple weeks at Wine and Dine.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_12: Megan was up in North Port, New York, doing the Great Cow Harbor 10K.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_12: There was a flyby 5K at the Pittsburgh Airport.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_12: Julia was there.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_12: Fun morning taking on a 5K through the airport taxiways.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_12: Megan was doing her first race of the weekend.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_12: A lot of multiple races this weekend.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_12: Much larger than Megan expected.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_12: She did okay, would have beat the balloon ladies, and there were a lot of folks behind her, so that's a win.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_12: There was one in St.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_12: Petersburg that I didn't know about.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_12: The PBJ run.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_12: I'm surprised Jack didn't tell me about the PBJ run in St.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_12: Petersburg.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_10: Oh wow, yeah.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_12: Christina was there.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_12: Beautiful St.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_12: Pete race with unlimited PBJs at the end, Jack.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_12: Joy.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_12: You also have a challenge.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_12: You run the 10K and the 5K.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_12: She took the 5K at a party walking pace, had a blast.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_12: Cassie was also there.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_12: Cassie ran the 10K.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_12: Now I had another race this weekend in the St.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_12: Pete area, but I still didn't know about that one.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_12: Son of a gun.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_12: I think this one's in Houston, Texas.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_12: I'm almost positive.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_12: The Space Cowboy 5K Brandy and Jennifer with Audra, Audra did the 5K.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_12: Brandy and Jennifer did something rather unusual.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_12: They ran a half marathon to get to the start line, ran the 5K, and then ran another half marathon to get back home for a total of 29 training miles for the Chicago Marathon.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_12: I'm thinking our friend Dean Carnassus will be proud of you guys.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_12: Running a half marathon to get to the 5K.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_12: Good for you.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_12: This one I know is in Houston, the University of Houston 5K.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_12: Katrina was there with her children Lucas and Olivia.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_12: Eighth 5K of the year for Lucas and Olivia.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_12: Only two left.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_12: They both ran negative splits.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_12: They both ran 5K PRs.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_12: I saw a photo of the two kids in front of somebody took one of my shoes and put it up as a prop.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_12: I don't know if you saw that or not.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_12: Hey, here's a friend who was on the podcast not long ago talking about the run in Leadville.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_12: Alicia did what appeared to be a really challenging boulder beast 24-mile run in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_12: It's a loop course that covers 25 miles and 6,000 feet of climbing.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_12: The main feature is this one steep field of boulders that you need to ascend, and at some time she was ascending on all fours.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_12: It's about 750 feet of altitude climb over just a little over half a mile in distance.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_12: Took her 45 minutes to navigate it.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_12: Now the rest of the 24 miles of the course was difficult and technical, although not exactly a boulder climb.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_12: She shimed, uh showed up with the goal of just finishing within the time cutoff, which was 12 hours, crossed the finish line in 8.52, enjoyed the post-race picnic afterwards with pizza, chicken, barbecue, hot dogs, and beer.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_12: Very challenging event.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_12: Alicia, congratulations on that one.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_12: In New York City, the Bronx, or is it Bronx?
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_12: It's Bronx, isn't it?
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_12: The Bronx 10 Milers.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_12: The Bronx.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_12: Dibya, Jen, and Caitlin were there.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_12: Jen commented, perfect day for running.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_12: Rolling Hills for much of the course.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_12: She say shaved seven.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_12: She say she shaved seashells by the seashore.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_12: She shaved six minutes off of last year's time.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_12: In Fort DeSoto, Florida, they did the Oktoberfest run.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_12: My friends Richard and Krista were there for the 10K.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_12: I was there for the 15k.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_12: Hot, no shade.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_12: And I think I'm going to save it for next week.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_12: I had real problems.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_12: I need to take a look at my nutrition.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_12: I need to discuss medications with my physician.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_12: I am just darn glad Richard and Krista were there.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_12: Their son uh Barrett was there too.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_12: Uh, because I crossed that finish line and I practically could not stand up.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_12: I was just that far out of it.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_12: I I can't explain it any other way.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_12: Uh it was not a good feeling, but it was a good feeling to have good friends there to help me out.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_12: And it turns out all's well that ends well.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_12: All right.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_12: In West Virginia, there was the Hurricane 100K and Team Wilderness Explorer Relay ran that one.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_12: Jack, did you know any of those people?
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_04: Um, I met them on the internet.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_04: I'm just kidding.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_04: But I actually know, kind of, because Ileana messaged me years ago on Facebook, and now we're we're good friends, which is awesome.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_04: And I'm good friends with um one of her longtime friends, Molly.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_04: So it's me, uh Ileana and Molly.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_04: We did the 100k uh hurricane relay and the wilderness explorers.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_04: If you don't get the reference, watch the movie yep.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_04: But we had our little outfits dressed up, and she even got us a little butt of the bottle cap uh to put on our outfits and everything.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_05: Every time you you install each other, did you go?
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_04: I think we were so exhausted and tired after each loop.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_04: I thought about doing it once as I was about to leave for my first loop, and then I forgot how it went.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I remember running away, then realizing my I didn't tie my shoes.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_04: I didn't like point to away.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_04: I was so excited about getting the little ankle bracelet, then I was like, what is the sound of my foot?
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, I didn't tie my shoes.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_05: I can I can I can picture now that Eliana comes up to you.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_05: Good afternoon.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_05: Are you in need of a distance?
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, no.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I will say she she has talked to me about this race for some time now, and I'm glad that we have finally ran it and we did it as a relay.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_04: I don't think I could have done this as uh individual 100k because the course itself is very difficult.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_04: And it's a 10.3 mile loop, and it's it's very technical.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_04: And uh from somebody who no longer lives near like mountains that I can go or you know, or hills that I can train on, you don't get the same training as if you're going on a stairmaster.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_04: I hit my foot on so many rocks and roots, my left foot specifically.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_04: I I hit my uh my foot caught, no, it was a big hit.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_04: It was a big hit on my right foot.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_04: Um, it caught a rock, and I know it was a rock, and it just went into an interesting direction.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_04: And I was like, oh my gosh, please don't let me sprain my ankle.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_04: And turns out I and uh my nail on my big toe, it hit so hard that it looks like right now, and I'm not gonna show well, I can't show you guys because you're listening.
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm not talking about you guys as a host.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_12: We don't want to see it anyway, Jack.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_04: It's it looks like I have a purple toenail polish on my big toe right now.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_04: That's gonna be fun later.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_04: But, anyways, the course itself was absolutely beautiful, it was very hard, has a decent amount of elevation, but it kind of, if you ever watch the first Hunger Games where they go into like the forest and wooded areas, it looks very much like that.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_04: Um, lots of beautiful greenery.
- 1:22:07SPEAKER_04: Um, and it was really well run.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_04: Um, there was so much food.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_04: There was an ice cream truck, they had people that brought over um snakes so that the families can, you know, have other things to do while they're waiting for you know their person to come through again.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_04: Like there's little stuff to do around.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_04: Uh so uh yeah, it was very interesting, very entertaining.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_04: They had pizza brought out throughout the day, they had um Dunkin' Donuts, like anything you ever wanted or needed, you were you were taken well care of.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_04: So I highly recommend this race for anybody who's wanting to do a relay, which was a lot of fun, uh get some friends together, or if you're daring and want to deal with a hundred K individual, more power to you.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_04: You got this.
- 1:22:53SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_12: So let me let me just clarify something, Jack.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_12: It was a 10-mile loop, is that right?
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_04: 10.3.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_12: 10.3?
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_12: And so did each of you ran 20 miles, right?
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_04: Yes, each of us technically ran 20.6.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_04: 20.6, okay.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was a very hot day.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_12: But did you okay?
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_12: But did you run one and then take off while the other two ran, or did you run two in a row?
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_04: The I personally ran two in a row.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_04: I I regret that decision a little bit.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_04: Um because I I had gotten in the heat of the day, and the first loop was fine.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_04: The second loop, I was dead.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_04: Like, I don't know.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_04: I I must not have trained hard enough or something.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_04: I know I didn't do as much elevation training because you know, Stairmaster, but like Yeah, that was hot.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_04: It was um the first person who went was Ileana, so she was the only one that had her, she did the first and last loop, and me and Molly did back-to-backs, and it was it was rough, but it was fun still.
- 1:23:56SPEAKER_12: Well, whatever you did, great.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_12: Uh finished in 15 hours, 40 minutes for the 62 miles over rough terrain.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_10: Good job.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_12: Thank you.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_12: So, Ileana, Jack, and Molly, congratulations.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_12: That's the Hurricane 100K in Hurricane, West Virginia.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_12: In Fort Smith, Arkansas, the MJ Stampede.
- 1:24:17SPEAKER_12: Joe did the 5K first race for Joe since July.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_12: Uh, he took a walking stick with him because he owned muscle relaxers.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_12: Still finished age group first place.
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_12: His buddy Gary took first in his age group.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_12: Joe needs to see an orthopedist next week for his shoulder, next month.
- 1:24:39SPEAKER_12: I hope it's okay because Joe's getting ready to train for London.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_12: Ryan was also there.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_12: Ryan did the 10K in New Britain Township, Pennsylvania.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_12: Donald ran the Peace Valley half marathon, his first long run after he'd been dealing with a calf injury.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_12: This is about getting back out and taking steps towards the Run Disney start lines.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_12: Still has work to do, but did very well, finished in two hours and eighteen minutes.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_12: Heading to North Tunnelwanda, New York.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_12: Brett ran the Platters Chocolate Factory Sponge Candy 5K.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_12: Out west in the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_12: Sarah was in Beaverton, Oregon for the Beaverton 10K.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_12: She'd been struggling with nerve pain in her neck, but she managed to PR and finish age group second place.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_12: Congratulations, Sarah.
- 1:25:34SPEAKER_12: Let's go to Stillwater, Minnesota.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_12: The run Stillwater log run.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_12: Jen did a 10-miler there.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_12: It's a hometown race for Jen.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_12: His course is mostly downhill.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_12: It was muddy at times.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_12: Could have been raining.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_12: 55 degrees at race start.
- 1:25:49SPEAKER_12: Jen managed a 10-mile PR and a new proof of time.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_12: Out in Las Vegas, Sarah ran the Shoes for Scholars race.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_12: A local restaurant provided samples of candied, bacon, and OJ before the race, and the post-race snacks were donut holes and bagels.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_12: Seems to me they'd be better the other way around, but still they sound good.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_12: Best part of the race was it was dog friendly.
- 1:26:15SPEAKER_12: So she made a lot of four-legged friends.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_12: In Morton, Illinois, Heather ran the Pumpkin Classic 10K.
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_12: At the opening of the show, I said the pretzel capital was in Reading.
- 1:26:29SPEAKER_12: Well, Morton, Illinois is the pumpkin capital of the world.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_12: Something like 95% of the country's canned pumpkin is made there at the Libby factory.
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_12: 10K race is great, relatively flat, not too crowded.
- 1:26:45SPEAKER_12: Beautiful course that goes out amongst the wheat fields.
- 1:26:48SPEAKER_12: Registration includes a ticket to the pancake breakfast.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_12: There's also pumpkin pie, pumpkin chili, pumpkin ice cream.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_12: She finished age group third place with a new age group PR.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_12: And guess what she won?
- 1:27:01SPEAKER_12: A pumpkin.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_12: A pumpkin pie.
- 1:27:04SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 1:27:04SPEAKER_12: All right, continuing now.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_12: In Seattle, the Brooks Orca run.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_12: Shavani ran the half marathon.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_12: She was visiting her sister, needed a long training run, signed up for it.
- 1:27:15SPEAKER_12: Of course, it was beautifully flat.
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_12: And the gloomy Seattle weather kept things cool and breezy.
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_12: She didn't spot any whales or seals at the viewpoints, but she thought the coupless water stations were cool and the metal was incredibly cool.
- 1:27:28SPEAKER_12: Now Shivani was visiting and she talked about the gloomy weather.
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_12: Alan was there for the eight-mileer.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_12: Alan, I believe, is a local.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_12: The weather was perfect, said Ellen.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_12: Amazing views along Puget Sound.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_12: Uh went past some cruise ships, Salties, and the Coast Guard's Polar Star.
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_12: They spotted a seal and numerous herons.
- 1:27:50SPEAKER_12: Third year running this one with her nieces.
- 1:27:52SPEAKER_12: She set a six minute PR, and I got a kick out of Ellen's little video of her running the PR bell.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_12: She looked very happy.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_12: As she should.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_12: Great job.
- 1:28:03SPEAKER_12: Somewhere in Maine, Audrey ran the Dempsey Challenge 10K.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_12: She got both a 10K PR and she exceeded her fundraising goal.
- 1:28:12SPEAKER_12: A little nervous because she hasn't been very public about it, but she's a cancer survivor, and she made a shirt with a sparkly teal ribbon design on the front, and in the end, it very felt really good to bravely and proudly wear it.
- 1:28:25SPEAKER_12: Audrey, congratulations.
- 1:28:27SPEAKER_12: I think that's marvelous.
- 1:28:29SPEAKER_12: I mean, it kind of reminds me we have a lot of friends who are survivors and a lot of friends who are battling with cancer right now.
- 1:28:36SPEAKER_12: So we're all very proud of you.
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_12: Almost as proud as Audrey is of her daughter Melody, who did she's doing the Healthy Kids Running series.
- 1:28:45SPEAKER_12: She just turned five, so she's running the quarter mile.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_12: This is her second week, and she tied her first week's time.
- 1:28:52SPEAKER_12: So both of those Melody, both of those are PRs.
- 1:28:59SPEAKER_12: Alright, back to Florida to Lake Nona for the Track Shack 5K.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_12: Tracy's back for race number three.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_12: She's a track shack ambassador.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_12: This is a full festival with a DJ stage, lots of vendors, black light bubbles for the kids, and beer and pizza at her favorite park pizza.
- 1:29:19SPEAKER_12: She helped a friend PR this 5K.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_12: Heather's also back for her third run of the weekend.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_12: Heather finished Saturday night and then did not leave the couch on Sunday.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_12: We wrap up Saturday in Alabama.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_12: Trustfell Alabama Metal Madness 5K.
- 1:29:37SPEAKER_12: Holly was there.
- 1:29:38SPEAKER_12: After two weeks off from running, she was so convinced this race was going to be sad that she literally told her family to stay home and not come watch.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_12: So of course, Holly has a new 5K PR.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_12: Friends, let's move to Sunday and start out in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, with our race report spotlight for this week.
- 1:30:01SPEAKER_12: A little different this time.
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_12: I want to talk to our friend Phaedra, who did the Terry Fox run up there in Woodstock.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_12: Phaedra, welcome to the podcast.
- 1:30:12SPEAKER_00: Thanks, Bob.
- 1:30:13SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to be here.
- 1:30:14SPEAKER_12: I'm happy that I got your name right this time.
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_12: That's an inside joke, friends.
- 1:30:18SPEAKER_12: Yeah, we're we're glad that you're with us, and and we're glad that you've you've got some time to tell us this story.
- 1:30:24SPEAKER_12: Now we want to talk about the race.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_12: We we do.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_12: We want to hear about your event, how it went.
- 1:30:31SPEAKER_12: But in reading your Facebook post about it, you mentioned that a lot not a lot of Americans know who Terry Fox was.
- 1:30:40SPEAKER_12: Now, I did, but I think that in part is because I'm a bit older than most of the folks.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_12: How about giving us a story and telling us about who Terry was and why this run is so special?
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thanks, Bob.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate the opportunity to do this because I think it's uh you know a very inspirational story, and I don't know anyone that's not inspired when they hear Terry's story.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_00: Um if you're Canadian, I'm sure that you you know this story probably inside out.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_00: But um, in 1980, uh a man named Terry Fox, he was uh 22 years old, so a young guy, he um decided to run across Canada for cancer research to fundraise for cancer research.
- 1:31:26SPEAKER_00: Um when he was 18, he actually lost his leg to cancer.
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_00: So he had a prosthetic leg and he started his run.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_00: He called it the Marathon of Hope, and he started that in St.
- 1:31:36SPEAKER_00: John's, Newfoundland, which is on the extreme east coast of Canada.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_00: And he up, he dipped his artificial leg in the ocean and then he took off to run across Canada.
- 1:31:46SPEAKER_00: And his goal was to get all the way across Canada, raising money as he went.
- 1:31:52SPEAKER_00: He wanted to raise one dollar for every Canadian, um, which at the time was$24 million, or 24 million people.
- 1:32:00SPEAKER_00: Um, and he wanted to make it to the other coast.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_00: So he he took off and he actually ran a full marathon, so 42 kilometers, 26 miles a day for months.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_00: And in total, he ran uh 3,330 something miles by the time he was he had to finish.
- 1:32:20SPEAKER_00: So he made it to uh Thunder Bay, Ontario, which is uh Northern Ontario.
- 1:32:25SPEAKER_00: And unfortunately, at that time his cancer returned and he had to stop his race, but he created a really, really great legacy for Canadians in terms of you know fundraising and inspiration, motivation.
- 1:32:43SPEAKER_00: Um in his name, over a billion dollars has been raised for cancer research at this at this date.
- 1:32:51SPEAKER_00: Um, and it's just it's a very inspiring story.
- 1:32:53SPEAKER_00: And I don't think I really um connected to it as much until I started running.
- 1:32:58SPEAKER_00: Um and now thinking, you know, running a marathon a day on one leg while you're fighting cancer, it's just unreal.
- 1:33:05SPEAKER_00: And he's just been a very inspiring person for all Canadians uh for many years now.
- 1:33:11SPEAKER_12: Absolutely.
- 1:33:12SPEAKER_12: Now I'm not showing off here, I'm reading some of this, I've looked it up.
- 1:33:16SPEAKER_12: I I honestly did remember Terry's story, and I knew it ended with his passing.
- 1:33:22SPEAKER_12: Uh I the cancer spread to his lungs, as I recall.
- 1:33:25SPEAKER_12: Yes, and he ultimately died from the lung cancer.
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_12: He had, and I'm reading this here, he had osteosarcoma.
- 1:33:36SPEAKER_12: And at that time the leg his he lost his leg.
- 1:33:41SPEAKER_12: Prosthetics were not as advanced back in the 1980s as they are now.
- 1:33:46SPEAKER_12: So he essentially had to hop and then use the other leg kind of as balance.
- 1:33:53SPEAKER_12: And uh it was, I imagine it was excruciating.
- 1:33:56SPEAKER_12: He had all sorts of of problems with the stump and with his other good leg, and my goodness, what a heroic action.
- 1:34:06SPEAKER_12: As a result of the money, now it's hard to say this is a direct result, but the funds that he raised for research have gone to a very positive cause.
- 1:34:18SPEAKER_12: Now, when he when he got the disease, I think I remember reading that the uh the projected survival rate had increased.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_12: It was like 5% or so earlier, but by the time he got it, it was up to about 50%.
- 1:34:34SPEAKER_12: Since then, procedures have come into place that do not require amputation of the limb.
- 1:34:42SPEAKER_12: And the uh survival rate now is up to about 70 to 80 percent.
- 1:34:48SPEAKER_12: So you know, good news.
- 1:34:51SPEAKER_12: Uh a very heroic person, and his efforts certainly were not in vain.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_00: No, they were not.
- 1:34:59SPEAKER_00: And um before he passed, actually, they had said to him that they were going to create an annual run uh across Canada for him, named for him, Terry Fox Run.
- 1:35:11SPEAKER_00: And it started uh the year after he passed, so 1981 was the first year that they did that, and it's been it's been done every year since.
- 1:35:19SPEAKER_12: Awesome.
- 1:35:20SPEAKER_12: So now if I've got this right, the run occurs in various places throughout Canada, always on the same day?
- 1:35:28SPEAKER_00: Uh in general, yes.
- 1:35:30SPEAKER_00: So it's usually a Sunday in September, so it was this Sunday, and yes, it across all across Canada, multiple cities and towns will will host a run.
- 1:35:40SPEAKER_12: Yeah, well, well, I'm glad you had an opportunity to share that story and enlighten some of our friends who I'm sure, as you've observed already, I'm sure some of our friends were not aware of it, but it is a very dramatic and very inspirational story.
- 1:35:52SPEAKER_12: Uh let's talk about you and the race you did this week, okay?
- 1:35:57SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 1:35:58SPEAKER_00: So, Phaedra, how did you get started running?
- 1:36:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, yeah.
- 1:36:02SPEAKER_00: So I was thinking about how I would answer this question um before I came on tonight, uh, because I knew you were gonna ask me.
- 1:36:08SPEAKER_00: So I actually I dabbled in running, uh sort of dabbled during COVID was sort of the first time I started to dabble in running.
- 1:36:20SPEAKER_00: And I I was doing lockdown and and you know, was bored.
- 1:36:23SPEAKER_00: So and I I I didn't really have an athletic pursuit, um, needed a form of exercise.
- 1:36:29SPEAKER_00: So I started doing like a couch to 5K, but never really made it past, you know, week two or three.
- 1:36:34SPEAKER_00: And then I would kind of like stop and do it.
- 1:36:37SPEAKER_12: Well, you made it by the couch.
- 1:36:38SPEAKER_12: That's good.
- 1:36:39SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:36:39SPEAKER_00: I made it a little past.
- 1:36:41SPEAKER_00: So um yeah, about two years ago, I actually started to take running a little bit more seriously.
- 1:36:48SPEAKER_00: I wanted to, I I set a goal.
- 1:36:50SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna set, I'm gonna run, you know, a 5K race.
- 1:36:52SPEAKER_00: I want, I really want to do a 5K race.
- 1:36:54SPEAKER_00: So um I knew about Disney races also, and I thought, you know, I would really love to do a Disney race um for my 40th birthday, which was last year.
- 1:37:04SPEAKER_00: So I thought, you know, I um my goal was I wanted to do a race for my 40th birthday Disney race in Disneyland because I'd never been there before.
- 1:37:12SPEAKER_00: Uh and so I started that journey kind of a little bit before the Halloween 2025 races were announced.
- 1:37:21SPEAKER_00: And when they were announced, I thought that's really cool because I love Halloween.
- 1:37:26SPEAKER_00: I got married on Halloween.
- 1:37:27SPEAKER_00: Um, and yeah, so I was like so thrilled to see that there was a race weekend that was going to be there.
- 1:37:32SPEAKER_00: So um signed up for the 10K at the Halloween weekend, and that was kind of like when I really started to take things seriously and started to train and started to work towards making that distance.
- 1:37:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, did run my first 5k in two years ago at Halloween.
- 1:37:49SPEAKER_00: I ran a Halloween Halloween race for my first one, got my first medal, and then at that point I was like, yeah, I want medals.
- 1:37:55SPEAKER_00: Like, I want medals, I want to collect them.
- 1:37:58SPEAKER_00: You know, it's fun.
- 1:37:58SPEAKER_00: So uh since then I've just been, you know, doing a lot of local races and and and doing medals and getting as many as I can and uh having a lot of fun, you know, challenging myself.
- 1:38:10SPEAKER_00: I keep increasing my distance as I go.
- 1:38:12SPEAKER_11: So this is a Terry Fox run.
- 1:38:14SPEAKER_11: Uh I guess it was it was a local race for you.
- 1:38:16SPEAKER_11: Can you tell us about this race?
- 1:38:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:38:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I live in a smaller city, so our population is about 30,000 or so.
- 1:38:24SPEAKER_00: Um so we have uh a Terry Fox run here, and they were offering a 2.5k, 5K, or a 10K route that they had sort of marked out for people.
- 1:38:36SPEAKER_00: This is not a race for medals or anything like that.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_00: They don't time it.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_00: You don't have timing chips and anything like that.
- 1:38:43SPEAKER_00: And it's free to enter.
- 1:38:44SPEAKER_00: You just sign up and you can fundraise for it.
- 1:38:46SPEAKER_00: So it's more just about getting out there and doing the distance.
- 1:38:49SPEAKER_00: So you kind of got a choice.
- 1:38:50SPEAKER_00: You can do whatever distance you want to do.
- 1:38:52SPEAKER_00: They also do like a it's like a walk, run, roll, bike.
- 1:38:57SPEAKER_00: We there was even some people at my race that were actually on these like these bouncy shoe things.
- 1:39:03SPEAKER_10: They're like shoes that have like bouncy things on them.
- 1:39:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:39:08SPEAKER_00: But they were like, yeah, it was really weird, but there were some people that that did the race using that.
- 1:39:13SPEAKER_00: So I chose to do 5K um and I did a little the 5k run.
- 1:39:18SPEAKER_00: And um, yeah, I just do I just did it as a us.
- 1:39:23SPEAKER_00: I had to do a run this weekend anyways for my training plan.
- 1:39:26SPEAKER_00: So I just kind of threw it in there as as an extra little bit to that, and um it was a it was a good race.
- 1:39:33SPEAKER_12: Awesome.
- 1:39:34SPEAKER_12: Glad to hear it.
- 1:39:35SPEAKER_12: Um anything special?
- 1:39:37SPEAKER_12: How was the post-race party?
- 1:39:38SPEAKER_12: Anything exciting?
- 1:39:39SPEAKER_00: Uh they had just some little like they had a couple snacks, so some fruit and some water and a couple cookies and things like that.
- 1:39:47SPEAKER_00: So it was really, it's really just like a really small, not a huge production type of thing.
- 1:39:51SPEAKER_00: There's just local volunteers that put it on.
- 1:39:54SPEAKER_00: Um, they have uh they had like a uh they always have um sign that you can sign uh with like markers to say like who you're running for, how you've been touched by cancer, and you can get a sticker that says who you're running for.
- 1:40:07SPEAKER_00: So there was that kind of thing.
- 1:40:08SPEAKER_00: We had the mayor of Woodstock come and say a few words at the start and things like that.
- 1:40:12SPEAKER_00: So it was just very like low production, um, not as I said, not for time, not for medals or anything like that.
- 1:40:19SPEAKER_00: Just to take some time to remember Terry's legacy and remember those who in your lifetime has been touched by cancer and and kind of run in honor of those people.
- 1:40:30SPEAKER_12: Awesome.
- 1:40:30SPEAKER_12: Awesome.
- 1:40:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah, congratulations on doing that.
- 1:40:33SPEAKER_11: A question.
- 1:40:33SPEAKER_11: So the shirt you're wearing in your photo, is that something that Grace gave you, or is that something you did just for this race?
- 1:40:40SPEAKER_00: Um, so no, they have actually purchased that through the Terry Fox Foundation.
- 1:40:45SPEAKER_00: So when you sign up for your local race, you can purchase merchandise.
- 1:40:48SPEAKER_00: Um so I purchased this shirt, and the shirts I'll say finish it on them because we're working towards finishing Terry's run because he never got to finish his run across Canada.
- 1:40:58SPEAKER_00: So um you can you can add it on to your race when you register.
- 1:41:02SPEAKER_12: Awesome.
- 1:41:03SPEAKER_12: Phaedra, you well, you knew the first question, you know the last one, right?
- 1:41:08SPEAKER_12: What's up next?
- 1:41:09SPEAKER_12: And when do we see you at Disney?
- 1:41:11SPEAKER_00: No, I'd love to say that I was on my way to Disney for Wine and Done because I'm very jealous that you all get to go.
- 1:41:16SPEAKER_00: Um, Disney races, I don't have anything planned.
- 1:41:19SPEAKER_12: It's a long trip.
- 1:41:21SPEAKER_00: It is a long trip.
- 1:41:22SPEAKER_00: It's it's a little bit of a commitment for me here in Ontario.
- 1:41:24SPEAKER_00: So um maybe eventually I have my eye on a possible 2028 marathon.
- 1:41:30SPEAKER_00: I'd really like to do that because it's going to be an anniversary year.
- 1:41:32SPEAKER_12: An anniversary year, it is.
- 1:41:34SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, but we're really excited right now.
- 1:41:36SPEAKER_00: I actually am finishing up my training block for my first half marathon.
- 1:41:39SPEAKER_00: So I am doing the Toronto Waterfront half marathon, and that is happening in October.
- 1:41:45SPEAKER_00: So look forward to that.
- 1:41:47SPEAKER_12: That sounds exciting.
- 1:41:48SPEAKER_12: Phaedr, thanks for taking the time to share with us, you know, your story about your race, but also Terry's story.
- 1:41:55SPEAKER_12: I'm glad you got a chance to do that.
- 1:41:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thank you so much for letting me share it.
- 1:42:00SPEAKER_00: I was actually secretly hoping that you would ask me to when I posted that to your Facebook group because I really do want to share the story and I really think it's an important thing.
- 1:42:08SPEAKER_00: And I think it can be inspiring to a lot of people.
- 1:42:10SPEAKER_00: When I was running with my friend um at the race there, she was telling me afterwards that when she doesn't want to run or she doesn't want to get out and move her body and she just like feels lazy, she thinks about Terry and she thinks about how much pain he was probably in, how uncomfortable he was, and how he pushed through to have that absolute grand determination to do what he did, and she gets out there because of that.
- 1:42:36SPEAKER_00: So I think it's it's a source of inspiration for a lot of people.
- 1:42:39SPEAKER_12: It is, it's motivational, it absolutely is.
- 1:42:42SPEAKER_12: Well, thanks again, my friend.
- 1:42:44SPEAKER_12: We look forward to seeing you real soon.
- 1:42:46SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much.
- 1:42:47SPEAKER_12: From Canada, we go to Huntington Beach, California, where Ruth did the Surf City 10 Miler.
- 1:42:53SPEAKER_12: Leslie was in Salem, Massachusetts for the wicked half marathon, and she ran a 13-minute PR and a proof of time.
- 1:43:04SPEAKER_12: Challenging course in Salem, rolling hills throughout.
- 1:43:07SPEAKER_12: She got past some hip issues and finished strong, dressed as Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas.
- 1:43:17SPEAKER_12: Back to Canada.
- 1:43:19SPEAKER_12: Ottawa specifically for the Canada Army run.
- 1:43:23SPEAKER_12: Tara was there, ran the Commander's Challenge, which is the 5k and 21k back to back.
- 1:43:29SPEAKER_12: She ran with friends Katie and Sarah.
- 1:43:33SPEAKER_12: Now Ottawa's full of hills, and they sure tested them, but they finished, were welcomed at the finish line by their soldiers, and they got dog tag medals.
- 1:43:43SPEAKER_12: A great way to finish out the miles.
- 1:43:46SPEAKER_12: Congratulations, guys.
- 1:43:48SPEAKER_12: St.
- 1:43:48SPEAKER_12: Charles, Illinois.
- 1:43:50SPEAKER_12: Fox Valley Marathon races had a half, a 20 miler, and a full.
- 1:43:54SPEAKER_12: Well, they were gonna.
- 1:43:56SPEAKER_12: Vicki and her dad were in there for the half, but it was cancelled an hour before the start because of heavy rain.
- 1:44:01SPEAKER_12: So what they did, Vicki and her dad drove back to the gym to get in their half marathons indoors.
- 1:44:08SPEAKER_12: Vicky ran as fast as she could, and though it's unofficial, I had to comment on this.
- 1:44:12SPEAKER_12: She PR'd her half at one hour 29 minutes 26 seconds.
- 1:44:18SPEAKER_12: Sub 130 half.
- 1:44:19SPEAKER_12: That's moving, Vicky.
- 1:44:21SPEAKER_12: Uh dad got his second best time at 228.
- 1:44:24SPEAKER_12: That ain't too shabby either, Victor.
- 1:44:26SPEAKER_12: Good job, both of you.
- 1:44:27SPEAKER_12: Oh, and then Greg's neck of the woods.
- 1:44:30SPEAKER_12: They did the Philadelphia Distance half marathon.
- 1:44:32SPEAKER_12: Cassie did it.
- 1:44:33SPEAKER_12: Fast and flat course.
- 1:44:35SPEAKER_12: A little bit of light rain kept things cool.
- 1:44:37SPEAKER_12: Cassie ran an impressive 218 for the half, good for a PR and a P.O.T.
- 1:44:44SPEAKER_12: Somewhere in Wisconsin, I believe, our buddy Tony ran the Fox Cities half marathon.
- 1:44:50SPEAKER_12: Great race conditions.
- 1:44:52SPEAKER_12: He'd been doubting himself for weeks, but he left it all out on the course.
- 1:44:55SPEAKER_12: He ran a 1430, which is a new PR by nearly 10 minutes.
- 1:45:01SPEAKER_12: Wow.
- 1:45:03SPEAKER_05: He's been crushing his training.
- 1:45:04SPEAKER_05: Way to go, Hollywood.
- 1:45:05SPEAKER_05: Really proud of you, man.
- 1:45:07SPEAKER_12: So in a year after double hernia surgery and that night he spent in the hospital after the potential heart issue.
- 1:45:13SPEAKER_12: He's really proud of this one.
- 1:45:15SPEAKER_12: Glad to see you back out there doing well.
- 1:45:17SPEAKER_12: Tony, the Cleveland Space Race 5K was run at NASA's Glen Research Center adjacent to the Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
- 1:45:26SPEAKER_12: Michael did it.
- 1:45:27SPEAKER_12: Said the weather was a little drizzly.
- 1:45:30SPEAKER_12: Tempts low 60s made it comfortable for this run walk event.
- 1:45:34SPEAKER_12: Not a PR, but it's probably the best he's felt on the three times 5Ks that he's run this year.
- 1:45:40SPEAKER_12: He's new to running, still learning what prep works best for him on race day.
- 1:45:45SPEAKER_12: Michael, way to go.
- 1:45:47SPEAKER_12: Teresa did the Bismarck North Dakota Marathon, her first marathon.
- 1:45:51SPEAKER_12: Well, we know what that means.
- 1:45:54SPEAKER_12: Beautiful running weather, great cloudy skies.
- 1:45:57SPEAKER_12: Last two and a half miles were uphill, which was a challenge, but she finished.
- 1:46:01SPEAKER_12: So not only did she PR, of course, this being her first marathon, she PR'd all the intermediate distances along the way.
- 1:46:09SPEAKER_12: Another person with great photos with the PR bell.
- 1:46:12SPEAKER_12: And I you see her crossing the finish line with just six just under six hours on the clock, which of course is gun time.
- 1:46:20SPEAKER_12: So she did better than that.
- 1:46:22SPEAKER_12: Good job, Teresa.
- 1:46:24SPEAKER_12: Julie ran the Detroit Women's 10K, her first 10K outside of Disney, and a 25-minute PR.
- 1:46:31SPEAKER_12: Wow, 25-minute PR on a 10K.
- 1:46:33SPEAKER_12: That's moving.
- 1:46:34SPEAKER_12: Cold and wet, but that's better than hot.
- 1:46:36SPEAKER_12: When she got going, she didn't even feel cold.
- 1:46:39SPEAKER_12: That's the way it is.
- 1:46:40SPEAKER_12: Unless it's really cold.
- 1:46:43SPEAKER_12: It's not running in the cold.
- 1:46:44SPEAKER_12: It's sometimes waiting for the race to start and stuff.
- 1:46:48SPEAKER_12: Let's finish up where Megan ran the Run the Field Lamb That I Love 5K in Northeast Ohio.
- 1:46:55SPEAKER_12: This is one Megan actually hosted.
- 1:46:58SPEAKER_12: Mother Nature wanted to make it a little more challenging.
- 1:47:01SPEAKER_12: Megan got really good positive feedback on this run from the 35 folks who braved the weather to do it.
- 1:47:06SPEAKER_12: She had premium snack boxes, a costume contest, and a military honor row row.
- 1:47:14SPEAKER_12: Many comment that they like the patriotism and look forward to doing it next year.
- 1:47:19SPEAKER_12: Well, there we go, friends.
- 1:47:21SPEAKER_12: Race report for episode 261 of the Rise and Run Podcast.
- 1:47:24SPEAKER_12: Hope you enjoyed it.
- 1:47:26SPEAKER_12: We had fun chatting about a lot of things we knew, a lot of things we're not so sure about.
- 1:47:32SPEAKER_12: But, friends, and if you run, you know you are our friend.
- 1:47:35SPEAKER_12: One thing we are positive about.
- 1:47:36SPEAKER_12: We're excited to be seeing you in four weeks' time if you're going to be there for wine and dine.
- 1:47:42SPEAKER_12: We know you're working hard on your training.
- 1:47:46SPEAKER_12: Stay consistent, stay strong.
- 1:47:48SPEAKER_12: That's the way to do it.
- 1:47:50SPEAKER_12: You're going to be so happy on race day.
- 1:47:52SPEAKER_12: In the meantime, happy running.
