- 1:38He'll he'll he'll welcome. Welcome, welcome.
- 1:40Hello. And yeah.
- 1:45Here we go. Here we go.
- 1:47Again, it's like a Whitesnake song right.
- 1:50Here we go again. On our own baby.
- 1:57So thank you guys for tuning back in again.
- 1:59As you can tell, my voice has returned to a bit more of its
- 2:04former luster or lack thereof. Not quite as raspy, not quite as
- 2:08labored as, as it was last weekend.
- 2:12I am happy to you know report that the malady I guess you
- 2:20could say the malady the the injury of sickness.
- 2:26And all that kind of stuff. Was nothing more for me and my
- 2:30wife than just a seemingly at least cold you know upper
- 2:35respiratory. Inconvenience we both tested
- 2:41negative for covid macron, whatever.
- 2:48Some of the family obviously is still recovering from the
- 2:52effects of it. My both my father-in-law and
- 2:56mother-in-law but the good thing is that my father-in-law you
- 3:00know, he's in his 70s and is feeling fine, you know he's not
- 3:07He's not in a lot of discomfort or a lot of.
- 3:12You know, pain or whatever. He's he sounds better than he
- 3:15did last week, he is moving around bit better.
- 3:17So I guess right now. You know it's just a point or
- 3:21just a matter really of Retesting seeing if they've got
- 3:27it still, my mother-in-law, you know, still feels a little under
- 3:31the weather but seems to have been the worst of it.
- 3:34You know, no fevers no major major impact.
- 3:40But you know just figured I'd start off this week's podcast by
- 3:43giving you guys an update on the thing that we were talking about
- 3:46last week and just let you know that you know everybody that we
- 3:50have regular dealings with seems to be you know on the mend and
- 3:54that seems To be, you know, the trend on this variant, at least
- 3:58people that are catching it, you know, it's just a really bad
- 4:01cold or so it seems. But anyway, Great to report on
- 4:08that, you know? And yeah, so we're going to be
- 4:13talking this week. Had a little had a little and
- 4:19say that's a little bit, had some, you know, tragedy strike
- 4:21actually today. We got some tragedy strike
- 4:26actually for the first couple of weeks.
- 4:29First few weeks here, we are now going into the second week of
- 4:31January or finishing up the second week of January you know
- 4:35where had depending on when you're catching this. and we've
- 4:40already seen and heard from a lot of Things that are I say
- 4:51things. We're hearing a lot about the
- 4:54people. Passing.
- 4:54A lot of celebrity deaths. You know Betty Betty White bowed
- 5:00out for her Curtain Call right before you know the New Year
- 5:07struck on New Year's Eve. I remember right now just a few
- 5:12days ago It was and they'll end towards the end of end of last
- 5:19week. I think I heard about Sidney
- 5:21Poitier you know, 90 something years old, he just passed. and
- 5:29then the most recent one that I can think of that, you know,
- 5:32probably most everybody's impacted by in some way, or at
- 5:34least, you know, feels worst about right is, is, is Bob Saget
- 5:38man, old old Bob Saget, 65 years old man, Yeah, Bob Saget, man.
- 5:51used to watch Full House as a kid growing up, America's
- 5:55Funniest Home Videos, You know, and then didn't realize I guess
- 6:02it's him. You know much later on as I got
- 6:04older and stuff, I'm just how much of a comic this guy was,
- 6:09you know, that that feature that he hadn't half-baked half-baked
- 6:14was in. That was a That was like, the
- 6:20first time that I can recall seeing, you know.
- 6:25Danny from Full House, right? Just acting.
- 6:29Like out of cows, like what? That's the same guy, you know?
- 6:37As sucking dick for crack, man. You know, it's can't put it any
- 6:42other way. But yeah, I was like what but
- 6:46turns out he had, pretty dark sense of humor.
- 6:50And you look in some of his other comedic roles and comedic
- 6:53acts and stand performances and stuff like that.
- 6:56And you can see just how much of a Of a interesting guy that he
- 7:01really was. So you know, tragedy is striking
- 7:05early this year. I don't know.
- 7:06Almost seems like we see this happening.
- 7:13Like, every at the beginning of every year it seems you know at
- 7:17the beginning of every turn of a new year, when the, when the
- 7:23leaf turns, right? We like oh man, you know, who
- 7:26are we going to see that kicks? kicks the bucket first and You
- 7:32know, it's kind of the name of the game though.
- 7:35Not I'm, you know, people get old man and we all do and What
- 7:43I've what does it say the the hour of our fate is set and none
- 7:47can escape it, something along those lines, you know?
- 7:51So we're just we're riding along on this journey.
- 7:57In this thing called life, man. And we're, we're just on our way
- 8:00to get there and it made it, and it's up to us, it's up to us
- 8:04individually. It's up to us and our own
- 8:07respective lives too. You know, what condition do we
- 8:13want to arrive in? When we reach the end of the
- 8:19road as it were, or the or the change of change of directions?
- 8:27It's not really the end of a road, it's in it's a transition,
- 8:31you know, it's like we're stopping off at this point,
- 8:33we're getting off on an X and we're going to another Direction
- 8:37and then some of these folks, you know, just because there you
- 8:40know, public figures celebrities, whatever in the
- 8:43public eye, you know, they, they get a little bit more attention,
- 8:48put on them a little bit more of the spotlight, put on them
- 8:50because of obvious things, but we're all going to get there and
- 8:54at the end of it, all none of us are Different in that aspect.
- 8:59So, In that in that light you know and I say you know tragedy
- 9:09has struck and all that it is a tragedy.
- 9:11It's a loss, you know, because we people that maybe, you know,
- 9:18we're much more closer, friends and family to the people that
- 9:22died. The people that have passed on
- 9:24right there, affected the most and we had if something happened
- 9:29recently in our tribe, matter of fact, at the time of this
- 9:34podcast, Has being aired for the YouTube channel members once a
- 9:37one again. Say a special, thank you, and a
- 9:39shout-out to the YouTube channel members at catch this before the
- 9:42Thursday Premiere so Halen and then thank you to you guys and
- 9:47gals out here that, you know, support the channel and that
- 9:51way. But So Monday, which is this.
- 10:00Now I guess the 10th, our tribe had a loss felt and you know I'm
- 10:09going to I'm going to go somewhere.
- 10:10I'm going to I'm going to maybe say some things that may want to
- 10:17say like rub people, the wrong way, but maybe like I'll come
- 10:19on. Give me a break, right?
- 10:20I'm talking about the death of house pet.
- 10:25Which on the very surface level seems like, you know why we
- 10:32talking about the the death of a house pet.
- 10:35I'm going to get into a little bit of like the whole, how much
- 10:38this this animal? Is this pet this philia?
- 10:42I feel like there was there was a philia inhabiting this this
- 10:45animal, I go these philia and that and that and that host has
- 10:50now been displaced from from that part of the self of my
- 10:54These self. Now we're going to talk during
- 10:56this podcast about what I mean by the philia, but suffice it to
- 11:03say little kitty. We'll just call her little kitty
- 11:08expired. Her life expire today or
- 11:10physical life expired. Today, after a short yet steady
- 11:17right dissension in to poor health talking about things
- 11:23where you know, She was unable to get around, move around as
- 11:27freely and as easily as she used to be able to her, her bowel
- 11:34continence e, was not as strong, right?
- 11:37So, she couldn't control her bowels as easily just the The
- 11:41Tell-Tale signs, you know of an animal that is Starting to reach
- 11:48the end of its physical life. And the guy, you know, to give
- 11:52you all just like a background story about about her about
- 11:57little kitty. You know this animal, she's been
- 12:00a part of my go these life for. I want to say the biggest part
- 12:05of 15 years or she's about 15 years old.
- 12:09And when she came into his life was Near and round, or at the
- 12:19VA, what we call our VA. Now, our Sacred Space on his, on
- 12:24my go, these old all familial lands.
- 12:27Right? So, whenever we have a tribe
- 12:29Gathering of religious importance, such as, you know,
- 12:34sigurd bloat in the, in the spring, / summer, or winter
- 12:38nights at the opposite end of the year, and any other sort of
- 12:42major ritual religious experience, a lot of that is
- 12:46done. Outside in the woods at our VA
- 12:49and little kitty had made her appearance known.
- 12:56If it wasn't there, if it wasn't at that particular day, it was
- 12:59at another adjacent. It was that it was around some
- 13:02sacred Gathering, some Sacred Space somewhere that was you
- 13:07know marked off as sacred or Hallowed Ground that sort of
- 13:11thing. The growth, whatever I want to
- 13:13say was at the same place that we all gather at now my go these
- 13:17watching or whatever you know if I'm wrong then correct me.
- 13:20But anyway ever since then you know and how much she's been
- 13:25involved. In his life has been like since
- 13:28day one there. and yeah, like anytime he did anything
- 13:37ritually. Whether it was in his house
- 13:41apartment, whatever, you know, any time that he would start
- 13:45something like that. She was always there, like she
- 13:47was always a part of it. She was always nearby, not by
- 13:50his desire or effort to make her part of it, she just made
- 13:56herself present, you know, and and has for many many years.
- 14:04And so when her health began to decline very very rapidly.
- 14:11But in a you know in a slow and say rapidly, it wasn't like an
- 14:15overnight thing but it's probably I think at this time
- 14:18probably wouldn't let me within the last week or so.
- 14:23It's just been that, you know, slow and steady decline but you
- 14:29know as as that's happened and as and as he was observing her
- 14:33behaviors and mannerisms and trying to help her out as best
- 14:36he could and you know, making sure she felt loved you know you
- 14:40reach a point where you determine alright.
- 14:45Is this something that we can Extend their life comfortably or
- 14:51is it time to allow them to peacefully you know transition
- 14:57and pass on knowing that they're loved without as much pain and
- 15:01suffering as possible, you know and today was that day.
- 15:05Today on the 10th at I want to say it was 1021.
- 15:10Central Time 10:21 a.m. was when you know, she she left this
- 15:17realm and Because of the spiritual connection because of
- 15:23that philia aspect between her and my Goethe.
- 15:31It's like a loss for the tribe. You know, because this isn't
- 15:36this is someone and I use that term correctly.
- 15:39This is someone not something, not just a thing but a living
- 15:43breathing representation of Life.
- 15:47Someone has Departed. Our physical plane are profane
- 15:53playing to move on into the spiritual plane, and it's an
- 15:59interesting time to think about things like this.
- 16:02And I'm using the, you know, Experiences of loss recently
- 16:11that we see at the beginning of a new year, right?
- 16:14That are visible to the world of the deaths of celebrities public
- 16:18figures and that sort of thing. we've felt loss personally and
- 16:23I'm sure the people listening and watching today have all felt
- 16:26lost personally themselves as well within a relatively short
- 16:29period of time from this past year up to now You know, and
- 16:36we're coming into here in a few days.
- 16:42The Yuletide celebration for our tribe, where we'll be
- 16:45celebrating. Our you'll close to around the
- 16:50time of the full moon, are you will celebration will be two
- 16:55days prior to the to the, to the actual full moon.
- 16:59But because of, when it falls during a weekday and everyone's
- 17:02schedule, right? We're having our celebration.
- 17:05Couple of days prior, so we're getting into that mindset.
- 17:10We're getting into that, we're preparing ourselves, excuse me,
- 17:13we're preparing ourselves for, for all of that, sort of
- 17:17activity, where we'll be having holding bloat, to the gods,
- 17:22where we will be, you know, gifting to the Gods in
- 17:27anticipation and in hopes of Their Blessings on us for our
- 17:32tribe, for our people, for our Loved ones throughout the coming
- 17:37year, and we do. So, as well, with our feasting,
- 17:43with our gift exchange, you know, with the with the gifting
- 17:47cycle, we exchanged in that gifting cycle with the gods as
- 17:50well as with us, our people, our folk, we exchange gifts at your
- 17:55we have and hold sambal where we you know allow for the speaking
- 17:59over the horn or over the weld for our toasts and boasts and
- 18:04any Oaths that are given are The most powerful when given around
- 18:09you'll. So, you know, it's a very
- 18:11important time of year for us and our tribe and for a lot of
- 18:15people are anytime that there's a yuletide celebration, whether
- 18:19you do. So around this time of year,
- 18:21like on the historical reckonings of things, or whether
- 18:24you do it around the Christmas time, you know, around that
- 18:28whole area. If you do it around that, it's
- 18:31still an important period of time.
- 18:34I've heard a lot of and I've heard a lot of heathens talk
- 18:37about how the the the veil being the thinnest around this time of
- 18:41year and it is it's we we experience the activity of those
- 18:49who dwell in the spirit realm in that sort of space between the
- 18:55profane and the sacred, you know, they live in and amongst
- 18:59us and around us and if you can hear my dogs are barking, I'm
- 19:02sorry. But they are very vocal as well.
- 19:05But the activity that takes place around this time of year,
- 19:09usually, between winter nights and and you'll write is, is very
- 19:14powerful. Our ancestors.
- 19:16We can, we can communicate very closely with our ancestors more
- 19:20easily with our ancestors. Perhaps we can communicate
- 19:22closer and with the gods with the sacred this time of year.
- 19:27And so the the taking advantage of that sort of thing is is
- 19:32important for us. And as we talk about, you know,
- 19:36people passing on people leaving the Flesh and bone and blood
- 19:44shells in which they exist, right.
- 19:46Departing from this profane space in their physical form as
- 19:50we talked about that. And as it happens around this
- 19:52time of year, it's a very fitting thing to talk about
- 19:55because it's a transition as I mentioned it's not the end of
- 19:58the road it's a transition at you're getting off at an exit
- 20:01and you're moving on to something else you're you're
- 20:03getting off the highway and you moving down those Country Roads
- 20:05or you're getting off the country roads and you're going
- 20:07down those you know, country back back.
- 20:11Though the beaten off the beaten path, sort of thing, you know,
- 20:14getting out of the city and into the country and just whatever
- 20:18analogy that you want to use. To describe it.
- 20:24You get the point and So right, when we talk about like, how
- 20:30close our experience is to the gods and to the sacred and to
- 20:34our ancestors, as we talked about that being much more
- 20:38powerful for this time of year, we look to also have a stronger
- 20:47experience, we a, a more in-depth experience. with those
- 20:51that pass this time of year in or near this time of year, so
- 20:55the ones that have already left and when they're already gone on
- 20:59We're able to maybe stay connected, or or be more
- 21:02connected with those. At this time when they pass, and
- 21:06during this time. So whether it's, you know, a
- 21:10human being, whether it's a house pet, whether it's an
- 21:13animal that that you have a special connect to connection
- 21:17with and connectivity with it's all relevant, it's all
- 21:21important, you know, and especially with regards to the
- 21:25animals, because they, again, they they coexist, The sand and
- 21:30yes, maybe they don't have the same, you know?
- 21:37It's not like a person, you know what I mean?
- 21:39A human being person, but quite often, man, like, you can get
- 21:43really get closer to some animal.
- 21:45They use. I, you know, I've said and I've
- 21:47heard a lot of people say to myself sometimes and either, you
- 21:49know, they hold better company than some people, you know.
- 21:53Because they listen, they are empathetic, they love you for
- 21:59who you are and under, you know, there's no malice, there's no
- 22:04hate with them, they just, it's just love.
- 22:07And especially when we call it talked about like house pets and
- 22:10this is probably going to venture into some of the UPG
- 22:14type stuff. But I'm going to refer to some
- 22:17things going to read some things, actually to you guys
- 22:19that I'll leave in the show notes with the description for
- 22:23you to read your cells at your own pace, but with regard to the
- 22:26philia and some of the historical Information or
- 22:31whatever that we have about what that meant to the Germanic
- 22:34peoples. And then the Norse Societies or
- 22:36the Norse, you know, people from Scandinavia, about what that is,
- 22:41what is, what are the philia? Who are the filia?
- 22:43What is philia mean, that sort of thing?
- 22:47But, you know, they they coexist with us.
- 22:50They had an end, they share in our space.
- 22:54They share our existence, we live with them.
- 22:57They live with us. And they are often times.
- 23:01Like, we talked about pets house pets, are their dependent on us
- 23:06to to feed them to give them shelter to make sure they are,
- 23:10you know, kept clean, happy healthy, you know, all these
- 23:12sorts of things. So there's you know, as much as
- 23:15we give to them too. Sure that their quality of life
- 23:19is as best as it could possibly be that.
- 23:20We can provide, you know, how they gift that back to us how
- 23:24they reciprocate to us. Many times.
- 23:27It's through the things like we're talking about that.
- 23:28Love that. That, that, uh, know that, you
- 23:31know? Just pure pure love or in other
- 23:36ways like we're talking about with my go, these cat her, you
- 23:41know, she's if she's a feline and and she was very present
- 23:44during ritual moments, and spiritual moments and things
- 23:47that touched on the sacred and in the spirit realm, you know?
- 23:51So in those ways, you know, the fact that she had sheltered, she
- 23:57had a home, she had food, she had love and care provided to
- 24:01her. It was like, you know, this is
- 24:03her way of saying, Thank you. And gifting back to the source
- 24:08that provides her with these things.
- 24:10And I also want to just call attention to, you know, one
- 24:13thing that happened during a very important and pivotal
- 24:18moment in my go, these life where, you know, he was
- 24:22transitioning from one lifestyle, think of an existence
- 24:26in a relationship to into something else and into being
- 24:29sort of sinking being single, and not having that relationship
- 24:32anymore. And, and little kitty that cat,
- 24:35right? She was present for that.
- 24:37And then the only time, the only time in the 15 years that he,
- 24:43you know, that they shared existence together.
- 24:44The only time that she ever killed another animal, Like a,
- 24:50like a cat would for hunting and whatever.
- 24:52The only time that that ever happened was when, you know,
- 24:56basically the day that it was on paper, right?
- 24:58Like done with this marriage and them moving into a different
- 25:02part of my life, she killed a bird and presented it to him.
- 25:07And it was very, it was like, it was a, it was a moment that was
- 25:10like, you know, almost like she was saying, you know, Dad, I'm
- 25:13here with you now. It's where, you know, we're
- 25:16moving in from one stage to the other that that Part of things
- 25:19are is dead now but I'm here, and I'm bringing this gift to
- 25:23you to let you know that I'm here for you.
- 25:24And I'm gonna be here with you and that's how it felt for him,
- 25:29you know? And that's how he described it
- 25:31to me in loose terms. I said, no, not not verbatim,
- 25:37but yeah, like that's, that's how it was for him, you know,
- 25:42that she was there for him at that moment of his life where He
- 25:48had nobody else or the person that he thought he was going to
- 25:52be with the rest of his life was now not going to be and who did
- 25:55he have? He had, you know, little kitty
- 25:59of course his child. You know, you're not taking away
- 26:03from her at all, by any means, love Ukiah, but little kitty is,
- 26:08is has been there with him, you know, and losing her now, you
- 26:14know, and having her move on and leave her the go body and live
- 26:19here, leave your physical shell is such a You know, impactful
- 26:25and hurtful time, you know, then let's face it, you know?
- 26:28And when when you connect with your pets like this when you
- 26:32have them for that amount of time you know?
- 26:34Even if it's just for a few years, we talked about decades
- 26:37or more of time, you know. She was with him for 15 years,
- 26:42you know. I don't know that many people in
- 26:44my life that I've known for that period of time.
- 26:47Aside from my family, like my mother, my father, my sister,
- 26:50and and then send some of my relatives right?
- 26:52There are If you people humans in my life that I can say that
- 26:56I've known for that amount of time.
- 26:59And you know, so you do you build up a strong bond with them
- 27:06and they build a strong bond with you and Losing them.
- 27:11It's a loss. It's a loss.
- 27:13Felt a true loss. Felt, you know, and I was
- 27:17talking with with the thing, go with my go, the earlier kind of
- 27:22in a group chat that we all have.
- 27:23And, you know, this is a loss for the tribe and it is, it
- 27:28really is because at that so that's what tribe is about.
- 27:31You know, when you celebrate victories, when you celebrate
- 27:34success, it is a success at the whole tribe can celebrate
- 27:38together. and in the same token, when loss is felt, By an
- 27:46individual or by a family within the tribe that loss is felt
- 27:51across the tribal unit across the board.
- 27:55Maybe felt different ways but it is still felt because your pain
- 28:00is my pain, your love, your success, your joy, your Victory
- 28:04is buying and we share in all of that together.
- 28:06It's kind of where the the complexities of frith come in.
- 28:11You know what I mean? Like, we're oath bound through
- 28:13frith and and so therefore or you know, when one suffers all
- 28:17the members suffer when one is joyful, all the members are
- 28:20joyful And that's the beauty of it all.
- 28:26So, I will. I do want to since we've talked
- 28:31about this portion of things for a while and I've brought up kind
- 28:35of the feelings of it all, I did want to, you know, talk a bit
- 28:39and read to you guys, an article that was written on Heathen
- 28:45off.com about five years ago or so and it's about the philia.
- 28:51So I'm going to link it in the show notes.
- 28:52I'm going to link it in the description.
- 28:54You guys can read it along as you if you so choose at your
- 28:57convenience, it'll be there. But for anybody that's You know,
- 29:00wanting to know what easy talking about with the filia.
- 29:06This is it? This is, this is what I'm
- 29:08referring to about, you know, the philia.
- 29:12So the article goes on and this is, what is a philia, a philia
- 29:18is one of two things. The animal shape, that a
- 29:21person's Spirit takes when he or she Journeys or a semi
- 29:28autonomous human shaped entity who is attached to a person's
- 29:33soul. Both types have strong
- 29:36connections with a person's ancestral line and can represent
- 29:40or work on behalf of an entire family.
- 29:46So that's what affiliate is, what affiliate isn't is, it's
- 29:50not a quote-unquote Norse totem animal, right?
- 29:54Philia is a distinctly Norse concept that bears.
- 29:58Very little resemblance to the, like stereotypical Native,
- 30:01American or other cultural concepts of an animal totem.
- 30:05The author of the article is referring to Native American
- 30:08Concepts. I know that animal totems rep
- 30:10are seen across multiple indigenous, cultures across the
- 30:15world, but we'll just stick with Native Culture for the sake of
- 30:17argument right now. Norse cultures of the Viking
- 30:23age, understood the non corporeal, part of a human being
- 30:27to be very complex. The person had a philia or fetch
- 30:33is another word they have or log or today, which are the tally of
- 30:38Deeds, sort of the foundation, the the Primal layer upon, which
- 30:44one's weird or fate is based or built on, you have humming you,
- 30:49which Is Loosely translated as luck.
- 30:53I'm Nina is luck which and again, these are just a few of
- 30:57the many parts of the self that make up the human soul in that
- 31:02in the Norse concept of the, the parts of self, right?
- 31:07Who we are as human beings. What makes us who we are outside
- 31:10of, just what you can see and and stuff like that.
- 31:15So, Because the roles and definitions of the philia and
- 31:21related concepts of things such as the disa, or dese, or those
- 31:27female ancestral, spirits and hamidah often overlapped and
- 31:30changed over the years. However, it is difficult to give
- 31:33one coherent definition of what a philia is and what one can do
- 31:41that said, phileas or fear. As a people in Old Norse
- 31:47cultures would have recognized, them are still actively showing
- 31:51up in many people's spiritual practices and lives.
- 31:56The term philia literally means follower I'm going to pause for
- 32:02just a second, because if you guys go to my video catalogs on
- 32:06YouTube, for those that are listening to go to my YouTube
- 32:09channel midgard musings, and just do a search on my Channel
- 32:124, The parts of self. I'll try to, I'll try to
- 32:20annotate some cards along the way for those that are watching
- 32:23and put the link to the videos in the description and show
- 32:28notes. So you guys have a place to go
- 32:29back to and listen or watch. But if it's on me, it's on my
- 32:32YouTube channel. It's not a podcast, it's on my
- 32:34YouTube channel. So if you want to learn more
- 32:36about these things and, you know, I did a several video mini
- 32:40series on the channel about the other parts of self.
- 32:44So but what the term philia basically means is for Lower as
- 32:47in one who follows, right? So philia, the word and the
- 32:53concept is what later European termed like a witch's fetch or
- 33:00familiar. You notice how philia?
- 33:02Familia familiar? Like there's, there's some
- 33:05etymological maybe some linguistic connotations there
- 33:08that compare that. Anyway, a philia is a follower
- 33:13one who follows so They can take either an animal or take on,
- 33:19even either an animal or a human shape, and if human, it will
- 33:24usually show up as a as they say, a pretty young woman, or an
- 33:29old hag, it's pretty definitive one way or the other.
- 33:34You know, which it is or at least, you know, in one literary
- 33:39case an old troll woman. So, sometimes the philia belongs
- 33:46to an individual. And sometimes it belongs to an
- 33:50ancestral line. There is an example of a kin
- 33:53fetch. I think described in some cases
- 33:58so you can see like where we're talking earlier about, you know,
- 34:00little kitty and then go and him and and her being a philia or
- 34:06his philia or inhabiting her body and at times.
- 34:12So again, it can it can belong to an individual or to belong to
- 34:16an ancestral lines and if so, the shape of the philia That it
- 34:22takes represents that family, so figure, which is plural.
- 34:27We're relatively rare in Old Norse times, usually only a
- 34:32prominent hero King, perhaps, or or somebody else important in
- 34:38society, like a gold vein or which Priestess something like
- 34:42that would have one version or the other.
- 34:45They were not too commonplace among the common folk, at least
- 34:50in the literary sources. Family of better starkers
- 34:54perhaps might have a wolf as their philia or Bear, right?
- 34:57They may take on the shape of a wolf when they go better Sark
- 35:02those who would practice or have that that practice of
- 35:07shape-shifting such as wild / circling were thought to have
- 35:13some sort of an astral body called a hammer.
- 35:17I mentioned the Hummer in one of my videos on the concept of the
- 35:20self, the complexities of the parts of self.
- 35:23Ha mutters. One of them the hominids like an
- 35:26underlying portion of their physical.
- 35:30Self which when they berserk could take the form of an air of
- 35:36their family animal. We don't know of any instances
- 35:42in the lore. At least, from the point of view
- 35:44of this author. And to my knowledge, at this
- 35:46point, at least, where a person had both a human-shaped and an
- 35:49animal shaped feeling, it was usually one or the other.
- 35:52And then again, the Lord that we know of where these things are
- 35:55mentioned, refer to one or the other not both.
- 35:59So a philia. Usually carried out several
- 36:01roles dependent on the form that it takes it.
- 36:04If it was an animal shaped, it has, or If it was animal shaped,
- 36:09it is the shape that one's Soul, when the person has left their
- 36:14body, for example, doing any sort of shamanic type journey
- 36:19and you know, astral projection, leaving the body, traveling to
- 36:21other realms. The, the form of the person
- 36:26would be would be visible or seen in those places as in the
- 36:30form of that filia. So it makes sense that with
- 36:35dingo him doing ritual, work and spiritual religious activities,
- 36:40in his in his Abode, in his home and his place and stone so
- 36:43forth, that little kitty would want to be there with him for
- 36:47that as being the one to sort of take on his astral projected
- 36:52form, his shape-shifted form and then be that.
- 36:56Follower that, you know, familiar as it were accounts in
- 37:00the lortell of a person's philia showing up in the real world in
- 37:06their animal form. Far from where the person's
- 37:10bodily, body actually was indicating that the philia is
- 37:12owner was trying to send a message or help out in some way
- 37:17and the philia can appear in dreams as well.
- 37:20Okay, so a few of you can also take a human shape, as we
- 37:23mentioned prior, it's one, or the other not both at the same
- 37:25time. But one way that a human philia
- 37:29is represented is as a protector or either a specific hero or of
- 37:35his of that person's entire family line.
- 37:39The other role of philia can take is to warn a person of
- 37:43their approaching death or prophesying the deaths of those
- 37:46in their family. Either way the human philia
- 37:50appears to be be given or sorry, the human feely appears to a
- 37:59given hero and he or she must then choose to accept that
- 38:04philia in their life and if he doesn't, or she doesn't accept
- 38:10the philia, there's a, there's a case in halt further Saga, then
- 38:16that feel you must go on on a like a You've been put on the
- 38:22bench kind of like on a Hiatus in a way and wait for someone
- 38:25else in the family to accept them.
- 38:31Though the philia appears to know a hero's fate, she does not
- 38:34seem to be able to directly change it though.
- 38:37She can influence the hero to act in one way or another and
- 38:41when example in the bottoms day, lasogga A Hero's philia will
- 38:47cause him to get sick and thereby avoid attending an event
- 38:52which might have gotten them killed still.
- 38:57There is no actually escaping one set fate like I And before
- 39:02the moment or the day of our death set of Our Fate is set and
- 39:06none can escape it what the norns have decided and decreed
- 39:12will happen in a handful of instances.
- 39:17Philia is both human and animal appear to be wise and work on
- 39:20behalf of the human who they are attracted to the human version
- 39:23of the philia, can sometimes overlap in Form and Function
- 39:28with certain Valkyries. Who become romantically attached
- 39:32to a specific hero and the word, their family line, the version
- 39:35of a philia likely helped to give rise to the concept of
- 39:40fetch wife or a swan wife, could be why we see the Valkyries
- 39:47portrayed and in the lore artistically with, you know,
- 39:50Swan wings, and that sort of stuff.
- 39:55Because a good example of a fetch wife / Valkyrie comes
- 40:00from, But one of the three or comes from the three hellige
- 40:04poems were in the sagas of Helga veto is Banda.
- 40:10Hell, he was a hero who dies and appears to be Priyanka
- 40:13reincarnated three times and each time his Valkyrie or fetch
- 40:18wife is reborn with him through though.
- 40:22Each time with a different name. Savannah, see grown and Cara
- 40:27respectively in each of these helgi poems, the valkyrie fetch
- 40:32wife becomes the hero's wife and protects him in battle.
- 40:37But she ultimately cannot keep him from his you know, impending
- 40:41doom. So, some Modern representations
- 40:45of the figure concept of a philia can be a hard one for
- 40:50like modern Minds to to kind of really grasp an entity that has
- 40:58its own distinct shape and personality.
- 41:01And his extended inextricably, woven into an individual's
- 41:06family or Soul seems quite I guess bizarre and in most modern
- 41:14day. Culture or in modern modern
- 41:20times. But in a way to help like
- 41:23understand that a bit, you can look at some pop culture as few
- 41:28examples of these types of characters.
- 41:30So in an aspect of ancestral, family philia, if you're a fan
- 41:37of the Harry Potter series, you'll see similarities of this
- 41:42with the Petronas spell. So a philia May well be
- 41:46described as a sentient. Ronis as with the philia.
- 41:50And the Petronas spell takes on a shape representative of that
- 41:54individual or family. And it protects the one who
- 41:58casts that spell and appears when danger is at hand.
- 42:02Another good example, from pop culture that this time like, in
- 42:07an individual versus an ancestral or family line philia.
- 42:11So we have looked for an example of an individual's.
- 42:13Feel like are the quote unquote demons from Philip.
- 42:18Pullman's Dark Materials series for.
- 42:20So for any Dark Materials fans, which which, I have no knowledge
- 42:25whatsoever, I'm just reading off of this article.
- 42:28There's evidently some connotations or correlations to
- 42:34the north concept of philia and that.
- 42:37So these are again semi-autonomous animal-shaped
- 42:42Spirits. Whose form is directly shaped by
- 42:45the personality of the human with They are partnered.
- 42:50All right, so that that covers the article now there's more
- 42:57information out there. Like I said, if you check out
- 43:00some of what I put on my channel, that information will
- 43:02be shared in the show notes of this podcast, as well as the
- 43:06description of the video for you all to check out because I
- 43:10covered, you know, the concept itself.
- 43:12The the the, the idea of the self, the complexities, Of the
- 43:20self. But I feel like it's a great
- 43:24thing to talk about right now, especially leading up to the,
- 43:27you'll Feast that we are all going to be having here in our
- 43:30tribe, by the end of this week and the week of the 15th.
- 43:36And for anyone that has, you know, experienced loss already
- 43:42this time of year leading up to the the end of 20 21 and the
- 43:48beginning of 2022. You know, there's there's plenty
- 43:51of people All that I've lost in my life.
- 43:55My wife has lost by my tribe brothers and sisters have lost
- 44:00this year and had a felt that loss.
- 44:06It's not the end and we were talking amongst our tribe a bit
- 44:11about, you know, the the upcoming, you'll celebrations
- 44:15and and sort of some of the things that we want to do and it
- 44:18occurred to some of us, it was brought to my attention that a
- 44:25special attention to the goddess or the yolk tennis, right?
- 44:30The yotan hell, the Norse figure hell.
- 44:35Presides over helheim, the that some special attention to hell,
- 44:41should be, should be given because she holds those who've
- 44:46gone on, right? She's presides over helheim
- 44:50which for for anyone that's not, you know, aware of like the the
- 44:56afterlife of the concept of the afterlife, like, hell is the
- 44:59grave? How is the grave Mound?
- 45:03It is where all of the Dead go? Go.
- 45:08Not going to get into the complexities of Halls of gods
- 45:14and Valhalla and all that other stuff, but suffice it to say
- 45:17that. Hell is where the dead go?
- 45:20And hell is the the one who presides over, obviously the
- 45:26name of her the place of her namesake, right, helheim.
- 45:31And so the the Dead are there. Resting.
- 45:34The dead are, they're living in their way.
- 45:38The physical data of gone on and they've moved into hell and so
- 45:41she is their host. She is their kind of sort of
- 45:44like, caretaker in a way and it's I think appropriate to
- 45:50think about honoring, hell, or paying homage to Hell during
- 45:55you'll whether it be through a specific bloat or whether it be
- 45:59during bloat to the gods, that a special hail is given to Hell
- 46:04think about that. You know, think about
- 46:06incorporating hell in maybe a future, you will bloat, amongst
- 46:12yourselves, or with your people. It's something that I never
- 46:16really put too much great thought into Um, but having
- 46:19faced so much loss recently and where some of my loved ones and
- 46:24the loved ones of my people have have have felt those losses.
- 46:29She is taking care of them. She is.
- 46:31She is giving them a place of rest amongst their ancestors in
- 46:35amongst the hall there and stares at least in our world
- 46:37view, you know. So why not, why wouldn't we
- 46:45Recognize her. And it's interesting too, if you
- 46:49think about, you know, transitioning from one room to
- 46:54the next transitioning, from one plane, from the sacred, from the
- 46:57profane to the sacred or, you know, within the profane into
- 47:00the spirit realm. There's all these talks about
- 47:02Transitions and how the veil is thinnest in the veil is, is on
- 47:06one side of things or the other. And if you and if you read the
- 47:09description of Hell's appearance in the Laura, she is, you know,
- 47:13one side isn't his, as the living in the other side is of
- 47:16her is as blue as a Corpse and in most artistic
- 47:20representations, that's like a represent eight.
- 47:23Like if the way it's represented artistically is literally half
- 47:28of her face looks and appears as that of a corpse, whereas the
- 47:31other half peers as that of the living.
- 47:34So there's that transition. There's that, there's that
- 47:36separation between the living and the dead.
- 47:39The physical living in the physical dead that she is
- 47:42described as looking like, right?
- 47:45And so, Where we talk when we're talking about all these things.
- 47:48Everything just really ties in. Well, I feel and we're going to
- 47:51be looking at that in our upcoming.
- 47:55You know, you'll blow and having hell a part of it.
- 48:00And I know, you know, a lot of folks who are especially drawn
- 48:05to the the yotan line, you know, especially those that are that
- 48:10are followers or have a big attention drawn to folk the to
- 48:14like low-key are also drawn To Loki's children, you know, so
- 48:18I'm the board as well as his wife and and, you know, fenrir
- 48:23and your men gone under and he'll course being another one.
- 48:27But you know, it's something to think about man like it's
- 48:32something really to ponder. And I like to put these little
- 48:37thoughts out as I get them and as they as they're given to me
- 48:39as those seeds are planted, I like to you know put these
- 48:44little giblets out here for you guys too.
- 48:47Nan and think about so, Yeah, I think that pretty well sums up.
- 48:54Today's podcast. I don't keep track of these solo
- 48:59podcast for like time but I think we've I think we've gone
- 49:06on for at least close to an hour.
- 49:09Now, at this point, so, We'll just, we'll call it will call
- 49:14it. I'll her, I will, I'm sipping on
- 49:18a blended Scotch that I haven't had in a really long time.
- 49:22And it's mainly because I haven't, like, most of what I
- 49:25get that the blended Scotch that I get, it's like, when I find
- 49:30light, you know, I stick to one thing and I don't really Venture
- 49:34off into. This is one, it's called
- 49:36MacGyver. Used to be one that I would get
- 49:39quite often. I don't see it much anymore for
- 49:41some reason and I just happened to be at a local liquor store
- 49:45that I frequent it's you know, locally owned and operated.
- 49:55Great fella name is Vishal. We call him.
- 49:59He goes by v p. So shout out to VP over here at
- 50:03the Georgetown Liquors and Murfreesboro Tennessee for
- 50:06stocking MacGyver. It say, It's just a blended
- 50:10Scotch and nothing fancy, you know, I mean if you like you get
- 50:13into like things like Cutty Sark and envy, you know, doers is
- 50:16like a little bit of a mid-shelf, the mid-range blended
- 50:19Scotch the like look if I'm going to just get blended Scotch
- 50:23I'm not looking to like have a mind-blowing experience.
- 50:27I'm just looking to enjoy a drink, you know, or 2 or 3 or 9
- 50:31depending on the day, drink responsibly kids, don't drink
- 50:35and drive and all that fun stuff.
- 50:39Don't don't Be an idiot. But anyway, MacGyver is one of
- 50:43those along with climb McGregor that I just, you know, we all
- 50:47have our favorites. Like, we all have our go-to
- 50:49thing that when we are looking just to for that everyday, sort
- 50:52of drinking of some of it. Some of you guys, you know, it
- 50:55might be Jack. Daniel, some of you might be
- 50:57Evan Williams for some, you know, I might be a little bit
- 51:00higher end, you know? But for me right now, right?
- 51:04I mean, I just, I get along just fine with, you know, an
- 51:07inexpensive decent. Well, you know, blended Scotch.
- 51:12I don't need, I don't need the single malt stuff.
- 51:14My day-to-day. I can't afford it even if I did
- 51:17like it. Now, I do keep the single malts.
- 51:19A bit longer will be picking up another one for you'll hear
- 51:25coming up, but anyway, I rambled on enough.
- 51:30I think about little kitty about the philia about.
- 51:38Now just that random thing about blended Scotch has And inhale,
- 51:47you know, and the afterlife and the concepts of the self concept
- 51:53of the soul, and all this kind of thing.
