- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I'm Hanan.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I'm Lena.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the Obnoxiously Pleasant Podcast.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: We are just wrapping up week three of Ramadan.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: How's it going?
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: I'm ready.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: I'm a lot better than week two.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Then week two.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: I totally agree.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: I'm still struggling.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: I'm still not sleeping enough, but alhamdulillah.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Like it's uh, you know, it's I think it's mental too.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: Like there's only one week left.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: So you're like, it's okay.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: It's almost like we're in the home stretch here.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: We're all in the home stretch.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: And then Aid is coming.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Eight is coming.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: So that's very exciting.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Um it is very exciting.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I'm not that I'm not ready for it.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Are you?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: No.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: But but that's the but that's the beauty of Ramadan, right?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: It feels like so fast and so slow all at the same time.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know if I sent you this uh TikTok videos of this lady, she's Egyptian, and she's like all those people saying, Oh, Haram, Ramah, Ramadan, Ajawrah, Absurah, we're gonna miss him.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: It's like she those are the people that are who have such and then sleep until iftaq.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And then sleep until not like the rest of us who have jobs and are stressed out and and no, but it's okay.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I will say, like, yes, week three has definitely been better than week two.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Week two, yeah, I think we were both extremely exhausted and tired because you're kind of still trying to find your footing and your groove and stuff.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Week three has not been bad, and I can't like I seriously cannot believe how fast it went by.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: It really did, like, yes, it was exhausting and tiring, but it really did not feel like it was like a hundred years long or anything, you know.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: No, you're right.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: You're right, and I think also like um January felt longer than Ramadan.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: But I think in general, in general, it's uh for us, like people like me and you, where we're always doing stuff, we're always on the go.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Like the days go by fast anyway, but like this is just an added layer of things you gotta do.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Um, but like I said, I've said this before on the previous episodes.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: My thing is just so hood.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: That's what kills me.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that it's hard.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Everything else is fine.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Like today, I actually feel this is the first day that I I get thirsty because I didn't have enough water yesterday.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: So like I feel it today, you know.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: I'm not tired, I'm not hungry, but like my mouth is dry.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Usually I'm good with water.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Like, I try to hydrate before for me.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: I can get through anything except for the lack of sleep.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: That's what kills me.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It's the lack of sleep.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Everything else I can get through just fine.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: No issue.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Power through, you know me.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Power through, just not power through lack of sleep.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, we we almost canceled this today.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: We're like, let's do it tomorrow.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: But then after I had everything set up, you're like, I'm looking okay.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: At least, at least she told me before I put any kind of makeup on.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: Makeup on, I know.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: And then she's like, you know what?
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Let's just do it.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Let's just do it today.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: I'm look okay.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Honestly, honestly, it's because we film on Fridays, and Fridays we're both working, and so we're trying to wrap up as many things as we can so that we can get some time to do this and then return back and finish whatever work we were doing.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: So her and I right now we're on a lunch break.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you're gonna, you know, if my boss is watching this, you know, it's it's my lunch break, okay?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Like, leave me.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: That's what I just said.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: It's your lunch break.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: It's your way.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Um, so the last time we spoke, we I was telling you about the the Syrian uh show that I got addicted to.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: And now Lena got Lena told me, you need to watch this, you need to watch it.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I already had other things I needed to watch or I was watching.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I decided Lena told me she was like, Oh, it's such a great show, you're gonna love it.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I'm I finished like what 35 episodes, which was season one.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: The first night I told you about like what it was 10:30.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: You should have got through like 19 episodes, like 10 episodes.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: 10 episodes, 10 episodes.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: This the first they're very short.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: So here's the thing they're very short.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Let's start with that.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Let's be realistic here.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: They're short, they're not like the Aaruz Beirut episodes, which are like an hour long or something, almost.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but tell people what Musal Sal, what the Mosal Sal is called.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, so we are watching a Syrian drama called Harat al-Qubba.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, so Harat al-Qubba or Harat al-Qubba, depending on how you pronounce it.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Um, it means like the neighborhood of the dome or the dome neighborhood.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: So essentially there's a dome, something with a dome that was, you know, that's what people told the neighborhood by.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: It takes place at the very end of the Ottoman Empire or the Ottoman rule.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: So the show starts in 1914 with uh um men getting Syrian men getting drafted into the Sephard Empire.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: It wasn't just Syrians though, like it was like the whole Levant area.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: What but but the show in the show, sorry, see my bad, my bad.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my stay with me.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Stay with me here.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Stay with me.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: The show is Syrian, yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: The Syrian men from the neighborhood of Harat al-Kuba getting drafted into the Sephir Barlik.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And the Sefar Barlik are like defines the the chunk of time during the Ottoman rule where uh the Ottoman Empire, which is what Lena was just saying, like imposed a draft on Syrian, Kurdish, like I think it basically men to go off and fight for the Ottoman Empire, like against their world.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: And so many people were so many people just you know died without reason.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: But we can just a lot of hunger.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a lot of hunger.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Anyway, that's the thing.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: That's when like the Lebanon famine took place, and anyways, yeah.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: That's besides the point that basically that's where that's the time period that the show is focused on.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Like it starts in 1914, and eventually the show carries you through the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Syrians, like you know, gaining rule of their country.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: But the show is so interesting from the perspective of like the clothes that the people wear, the design of the actual um, the design of the actual like the mise en like the set design.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Um I I I love the clothes though, I'm not gonna lie.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: I love clothes.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, the story though, the story is so well written.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, the dialogue dialogue is amazing.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Hold on, I'll tell you who the um who the I'll tell you who the writer is if you give me a second here.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Um it's directed by a woman, Russia or something.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's directed, it's directed by is it is Osama Osama Kokash.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: So apparently one of my one of my Syrian friends told me that um he was not pro the production of the series because he is anti-regime.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And they decided to produce his story anyway.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: What I had no idea.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Isn't that crazy?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: I had no idea either.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: She told me.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: I'd have to verify, but like she's a pretty good story.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: But I don't I don't remember that.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I don't think he does he have credits in the st in the in the credit.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Is his name in the credits?
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: I don't see his name in the credits.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I'd have to look.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: It says the series is written by Osama Kokash.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: What I love about it is it's very like the dialogue, the dialogue between the characters is so well written and so well done.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: You know, that's that's what makes me like that's what made me keep watching, you know?
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and and honestly, you also have like Abessan Nuri, who just like a really, really amazing Syrian actress, dude.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: And what's her name?
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: Uh Sulafa Mahmad.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Holy crap, dude.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: I know that lady, she needs to win some sort of award for this performance.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Like, I know taking taking politics out of this.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: This was a really well done show.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Let's not get pol look.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: I'm just watching it for the for the entertainment.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: I'm not watching it for any like I I also like the guy who plays um who plays Gazi.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: He's an excellent actor, too.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: He's a great actor, but he's so goddamn annoying.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: God, I hate his character on the show on the show.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but he's a great actor.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, he's a great one.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Sometimes he over I agree.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: He overdoes it with the eyes, but I guess it's just part of his uh you mean this like the I don't know, just like the evilness.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, so I love I love the characters and the storyline and the dialogue.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I think the dialogue I've never seen a Syrian Musal Sal from that, like like I think they call it BSME.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: What do they call like those stories, like the stories about like old Syria, old Damascus, old like it's never been like the dialogue has never been this good, like the the writing has never been this good, right?
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: I really enjoyed it.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I really really well I'm still continuing to enjoy it.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Apparently, there's a season three, so we may not even get what we need, the closure we need at the season three.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: No, no, I think they will they will close a lot of things, you know.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Did you see yesterday's episode?
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: What about the box?
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: The box did not close until until season two.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: I know, but did you see yesterday's episode?
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: I did see.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: I'm all caught up, all the way caught up, dude.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: What the hell?
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Like, like, did you like is he gonna just send her back?
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: No, did you not see today's episode?
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Because I already saw today's episode, too.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: No, I didn't see today's episode.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Please don't tell me.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's not good.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: That means I know I happened.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, don't tell me anything.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Do not tell me anything.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Subject change.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Now that you know that Lena and I are watching this show, it's a wonderful show.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Thanks to Lena.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Neither her nor I have decided to keep up with our um what is it?
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: No, no, I'm still keeping up.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: I'm on track.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: I'm still on track.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Our goal of not watching shows.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Oh no, that definitely, I that just wouldn't have to be a little bit more.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that just me and Raya just finished Babel Hara season two yesterday.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's good.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: At least everything is there, though.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so she was like totally like the she totally loved it.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: She's like, Oh my god, she's like, when can we watch season three?
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I don't know, girl.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just don't know.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Not right now, you know.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but she's she's picking up a lot of Atabi.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's Syrian Arabi, but still like what's very similar.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Air Atabi is Arabi.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: You know, that's that's actually one thing that it's like that I think is really, really important is that you know, watching stuff like this with the kids, it's good for them.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Like they may not realize, but it really is good for them.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: And then Baddie, like I said before, like he only he only he's like he'll be sitting like on this desk on his computer, like playing a game while me and I watch, but like it's always like right there in front of him.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: But it's in the background and he can hear it.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then he'll be like, oh my god, why is he hitting her?
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, why'd she why she scream?
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Like he only like like you know, chimes in when it's something crazy is happening, you know?
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: And then he's like, What is up?
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Islam and him and then get back together.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: They're too cute.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: I want him to get back to I'm like, listen, it's the whole season like this.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you gotta get over it.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: No, but like I think it's good when I I watch with them because I want them to, like, the more they hear ought to be, and you know, it's they get used to it and it'll it'll be easier for them.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: I think it helps.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Agreed, agreed, agreed.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: The other thing I wanted to say is like there's a couple of things that I was looking at, and like apparently not all of them go on YouTube, and like people asking me to like pay a subscription.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I have enough subscriptions.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: I have Apple TV, pay a subscription for what?
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: And I have like, I don't know, like I'm trying to what there's a couple of websites I went to because there's a Mosada Set of Sajorial.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there is a funny thing.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: So there's YouTube has its own like subscription service, and so we have no, no, it's fine.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: That's not what I'm saying, but I'm saying, like, I'm not gonna buy an Arabic subscription service too.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: I have like five already.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I have five different subscriptions.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: I have an Arabic subscription, I have an Arabic, and I actually really enjoy it.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: It's only like$8.99 a month.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: I have shed.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Okay, so do you like it?
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: I do, it's so worth it.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not I'm not gonna commit.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: You know why?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Because I'm like, we need to focus on us creating content, not watching content.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I'm not gonna do it, you know.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: I'm like, this is this is like a sign from God.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Like, no, I'm not, and it's not about the nine dollars.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: So heat Allah, you know me.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Like I spend like whatever, okay.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: But I'm just like, if I do this, like let me tell all the world that it's not about the nine dollars.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: No, it's not because if I do this, you know, but I know I'll be watching like one after the I'm like, no, I I don't want to like do that to myself, you know.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I guess whatever.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Are you watching anything on uh like uh American TV?
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: No, not right now.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: I have bandwidth, I do not have the bandwidth, seriously.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: I think maybe once once I finish the show, but it's gonna go like well in Daid now that it would be like I think it'll be another 35 episodes, too.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Oh god, I can't.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I felt so bad for him in yesterday's episode.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Like he's standing there and he has like he looks so broken.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: I felt so bad for him.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I guess those weren't those were the times, right?
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Like that's true, that's the thing.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: That's the thing.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: Like women, I mean, I was telling Raya.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Had zero rights so bad.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: I know, and it's just the call that I don't, you know, I don't want to get into that, but like I was telling Raya, I'm like, you know, this is this is you know, she was asking a lot of questions about like Babelhara and like how the women are and how the guys are, and she's like, I would not want to be living during that time.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, girl, yeah, I don't blame her, I don't blame her.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: That would be me too.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: I would not want to be living in that time.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: She's like, that is too much, you know.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: She's right, she's absolutely right.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And she didn't understand, she didn't understand how like you can be engaged to someone, but you can't see them.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: She's like, How is that possible?
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: That's my favorite part.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Because honestly, it's true.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: You're just like, What?
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: You but it's but I was telling her, I was telling her Islamically that's not the case.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: I'm like, this is just culture.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: I'm like, this was culture and it was like the way it was back then, and yeah, it's fine.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Tell her, tell her it's it really, like, truly, it's fine.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: It we would never do that to her, we would never let that happen to her.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, she knows, she knows, she but I just I get a kick, like I wanted to record her just what her getting her reactions from some of the sh the stuff that happens, and then like like I don't know if you remember Babelhara, it's been so long, but like with the it has been really long.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: You remember like I Sam's first wife and her mom, she was so like like nasty to them, and then she's like Shufti yesterday.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: She's like, she deserved it.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: She's like, I'm sorry, it's not Ludvia's fault that he's getting married again, but it's all her mom's fault.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: She's like, Why did she ruin his life like that?
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: I'm like, damn, girl, you got an opinion on this.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: The fact that she's saying this, you're like, This is a problem, whatever.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: And we're having fun, but yeah, like I said, after we just kind of it's nice though, it's it's a nice like bonding moment, like for you and for her, and for you and the kids and stuff.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: And so it is, it is for me after thor the kids and I like watch TikTok.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Okay, you know, that's the thing.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: I haven't been on TikTok and I haven't even posted anything for, and I'm sorry, I just don't have it in me.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: I don't have any energy.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: I just yeah, no, it's really hard.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: It's really, really hard.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: I haven't been watching, I haven't been on TikTok at all, actually.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: No, we usually watch recipes, we watch a lot of recipes.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Let's see, I'll tell you what's going on on TikTok.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: We usually watch a lot of recipes on TikTok.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: That's what we uh speaking speaking of recipes.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: What are you making today?
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Or are you going to be able to do that?
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Today we're going out.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Thank God.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Where are you going?
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: We're invited.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: We're invited to a friend's house today.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: First off.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's a bunch of families today and tomorrow.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I don't have to worry about food until Sunday.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: And then I'll worry about Sunday when I when I make it to Sunday.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Lucky you.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: I have to make something tomorrow.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know what I'm making.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Like today, I have left a word.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: I'm like, finish the food we have.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: I'm done.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: You know the positive thing about going back to TikTok?
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: The positive thing is we finally broke like a thousand people on TikTok, which is amazing.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Yay.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Yay.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: We're at 1,021.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: I know, but we have to once once um after Eid and InshaAllah, we're gonna regroup.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: We're gonna even do better things, inshaAllah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: So I agree.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: I think the next the next couple of days, oh, which leads me like right into my the next point for us, is that there will be no new episodes next week because both Lena and I are gonna take the next the last week of Ramadan to focus on Ramadan and to focus on aid preparations as well.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Yes, so definitely it's uh yeah, so that's gonna be that's something really important.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Like she has stuff she wants to do with her kids, and I have stuff I want to do with my kids, and and it's the last week, and yeah, this is and I mean, like we've kind of like dragged our feet, not dragged our feet, but we've we've struggled the first three weeks.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: We have, we have, and so I so we gotta focus.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: I really want to take the last 10 days, the last 10 days especially, to just really, really be focused on Ramadan and on what I need to do on my worship and like that.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Those last 10 days really matter to me.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: So there will be no new episode next week, but but we'll see you guys after Aid.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Yes, we'll definitely come back.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Uh it'll be May sometime.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: No, inshallah.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Because aid is May 1st, right?
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: May 1st is Monday, right?
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: I think it's Sunday.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: May 1st is Sunday.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: I think oh you're right.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: So May 2nd, I believe.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, May 1st.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: It's either Sunday or Monday.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: You know how that is.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Every year we go through that.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but according to Google, it's May 2nd.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, I was gonna say it's it yeah, it's the first or the second, something like that.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, every year right.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Every year we yeah, every year we have this discussion.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: When is it?
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: And like everyone, it's it's like when is Ramadan gonna start?
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: When is Ramadan gonna end?
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: It's always the great exactly.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Um, so what else have you been doing?
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: Nothing really, nothing.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the only thing I'm really looking forward to is my um my well, two things washing my hair and making drinking my coffee the same.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, see, when I spoke to you today, like we were texting you, like, oh my god, my hair is so oily, I look horrible.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, look at you, mashallah, look at you.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Like you're so you're so full of us look really dude.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Listen, we're using um, I didn't want to pay the full subscription amount for this program we're using.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: So the maximum is 720.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: We're not even in HD.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So no one's gonna know if it's oily or not.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: So is it gonna look really pretty?
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Am I gonna look like thick?
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: It looks amazing.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, you can still see my gray hair, but you're not gonna see my upper lip hair.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: That's for sure.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: That's for sure.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thank god.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: When we all thank you for that service.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Actually, if you wanted to rock your upper lip hair, I would not be mad at you.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: No, it's all good.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's not like I'm hairy or anything, but whatever.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: It's a joke.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: But I'm saying we're 720, we're not even 1080, we're not even 4K.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Like, don't worry about it.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Your hair looks amazing.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe eventually I'll upgrade to the higher plan and get the uh HD.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: But I'm like, we don't need that, and this is just temporary because until we meet up with each other in person.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this was actually just this format was just a lot easier for us during Ramadan.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: It's hard between work and the house and everything to uh kind of cover the time only in Ramadan.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: But beforehand, it wasn't as bad.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: It's a good backup, it's a good backup, so we stay consistent when we can't meet up.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: We can at least you know get on and do this.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: It takes us a few minutes to get ready.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Um, so uh do you have any plans for aid?
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Not yet.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: That's the other thing that I need to do during the last week is figure out.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously, there's lots of things with family, right?
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: You just you go see this person and visit that person, visit that person, but any specific plans?
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: No, not yet.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Like nothing's been hammered out just yet.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, no, that's that's that's the only excitement I have going on in my life.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: As you can see, but we need to do something kids for aid.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: I know we will, we will.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: They also have school on Monday.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: No, I am not sending them to school Monday.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, I'm not sending them to school on Monday either.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: I know you know what it's it, it's I'm I'm not looking forward to that week because that's the the week that we go back to the office.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: That I go back to the office.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's hard, man.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: It's not easy.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Because at the same time, like they were my my office was awesome enough to not make me come in during Ramadan.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Like everybody returned to work, and we're on a hybrid schedule anyway, but um, I'm just like not excited about going back.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Like, there are some coworkers that I really love that I miss that I cannot wait to spend time with and see and stuff like that.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: But for the most part, I'm just I'm really happy working from home, like exclusively working from home.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Every time I go up those stairs or those elevators, I'm just like, Ya Allah, why am I here?
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Like, stabalah, alhamdulillah.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: I have a job, like I shouldn't complain.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: But I'm just like, I don't want to do this.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Like, I just don't like I liked working from home all the time.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Like, can I just I think I think that's a huge thing for a lot of people is that they really liked working from home.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: And I really don't understand like why any company would force like a return to work.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Like it really blows my mind.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I think we're in the uh minority because like just I it literally takes me 20 minutes to get to DC.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: There's no traffic.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's that's one good thing out of it, you know.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: I I there's really like any day, like not even Mondays or something, or not even nothing unless there's like a car accident or something that's a good thing.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: From my place to the office, 20 25 minutes max.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: And it used to take me like an hour 15 to an hour and a half sometimes before the pandemic when there was all this traffic.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: So literally 20 minutes and I'm right there.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: See, that's wonderful.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Like, I love that.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: I love the fact that like even even like the commute, my commute is still kind of not the best, like it could be better, right?
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: But I also think it's because I don't have like my drive into I'm I'm going west, and I feel like a lot of people just go in that direction.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: There's a lot that's out there now, right?
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: And I feel like yeah, and so I feel like that's why there's probably traffic.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I'm surprised that the city doesn't have much traffic.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: I really don't know, Alhamdulillah.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, like like unless it's uh Friday.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, even then, even then, like it depends because I leave early to pick up the kids too.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: So so it's different.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: So maybe if I left a little bit later, but like going in, it's still it's still fine.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: But anyway, um all this yawning, all this yawning.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: And I like what do we have?
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: We have like what time is it?
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Like four hours left.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Four hours left.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Um, I I'm gonna have to wash my hair before I go to the people's house tonight.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, probably a good idea.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Are you taking anything or are you just showing up?
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take I always take dessert or something with me for that.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Something for me with me for the host.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's good.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you have to.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: It would be I mean, even though it's somebody I know really well and I've been there a bunch of times, I just feel like I should tell people what you used to do back in the day when Hanan used to have dinner parties and she'd invite me.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: She's like, Yeah, it's at six o'clock, and like you know, typical you know, person who respects time, I show up at six o'clock, and then like nothing is ready.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, I end up helping Hanan prepare the food, and that happens to me like once, twice, three times.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you know what, Hanan, I love you, but I will be coming late like everybody else.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: I'm not doing this.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: Come on, you had fun.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: No, it was great.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: I'm joking, but it's like it never failed.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Like, I I'm no and I'd ask like Hanan.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: You tell people six o'clock and everybody shows up at like seven thirty.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Arab man.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Notorious.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: But I like except except for Iftar.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Everybody shows up on time for oh my god, no.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: For iftar like one time I think we had I try to show up like maybe like ten minutes early to just And it's funny because every every every culture is different, right?
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: Like every fasting culture is different.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Um for us, like Arab, when you go, you're invited to someone's house, everything is on the table before iftar.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Like everything, everything on the table before.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: And then some other, like some of my Pakistani friends, it's not like that.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: They have appetizers out, they eat, they break their fast, they eat something really small, they go suddenly, and then the food comes out.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: So it's uh it's interesting.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: I always think it's um well.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Well, we do like for me, I'll be honest.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Like once it's out, I'm gonna eat and I'm done, and then I'll pray.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: No, I like to break my fast, pray Maghrib, and then eat because that's what Angel does.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then I have food coma.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: I know my yeah, he has soup first, he stops, he goes to pray, and then he comes back and he eats.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: So by the time, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: I feel him on that.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: I feel him on that because if I if I eat sit down and eat everything, I'm gonna have food coma.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: And I I just I yeah, I'm not gonna get up.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Like yesterday when we were sitting after we ate, uh, after we we ate iftar, like you know, I I made food and uh Mahmoud did the dishes because he's awesome, because we share in this household our responsibilities, yes, and then he came upstairs and haram, it was like he he tried to stay awake and watch TikToks with me and the kids, but he could not.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: He's just yeah, especially when you get up so early to go to work, and it's it's hard, it's hard.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: Like during the week, but I woke him up like 20 minutes later.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: I had to, yeah, because then it's because then you you can't, then your sleep's all messed up, and you know, yeah.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: But like I said, if for them it's like, and that's a hate on anybody.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: I know your husband and my husband, they both help, but I'm just like, whatever, get out of here with that.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Because like he's he's he's on, he's already reading the Quran again.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Like he already started, he's like halfway through halfway through it again, mashallah.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Honestly, honestly, and I'm still on juzit 21.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's good.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: You're but you but you're on track.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, I am.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: That's really good.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: You're on track.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: He's on his second round, so he's already not all of us can be overachievers, okay?
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: Some of us are just okay.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: So do you do you um do you have anything you want to say?
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Because we're not gonna see, we're not gonna do that.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: So, so very important.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Um, yes, I have like three things I want to say.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: So, first of all, I want to say Ramadan Karim, enjoy the last 10 days of of Ramadan.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: I hope they go really well, and I hope you guys are focused on your ibadah and on your, you know, just just the last 10 days of what Ramadan means and your preparations for aid, so aid mubarak in advance.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: Two, last week I forgot to wish my friends who celebrated Easter a very happy Easter.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: So happy Easter.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: I hope you had uh Aid Fulshmajid and I hope it was wonderful.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: And for my Orthodox friends who are celebrating Easter this Sunday, today's Good Friday, uh, happy Easter.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: I hope you guys have a blessed Easter.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm so oh, and and and the happy Passover.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Um, because it's amazing because for like the first time, I think it's like in 30 years, right?
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Um, I almost forgot Passover.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: All of us are celebrating our holy um like holidays together.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: So 30 years.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: I I thought we did that at one point in like during Christmas, wasn't it?
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: It's like 30, it's been like 30 years or something.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: It feels like 30 years.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: No, it's probably like it can be 30.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Like we're old shit.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: It feels like 30, yeah, it does.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: It feels like forever, but no, I just think it's really cool that like Passover and and Easter and Orthodox Easter and Ramadan and Aid all kind of converged are and are meeting like in the same time and space.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: So, you know, happy holidays, everybody.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I just want to say mubarak to everybody.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Uh, inshallah, you had a great Ramadan.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: Um, and the next time you guys see us or listen to us, uh, we'll both uh be having our coffee and we won't be so tired and broke looking.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: And inshallah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: We will be in person, yes, inshallah.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: And we also we have we have a couple of things that we're gonna be uh planning.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: You and I, Hanan.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: In the next thing, since we're not recording, we have to um do a couple things.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: You see, this is what I have to deal with.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: I'm always like Hanan, we gotta sit, we gotta do this.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: So, inshaAllah, insha'Allah, we have some really cool stuff coming up.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Um, uh, and that's it.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Hope you guys have a great uh Ramadan, great read, and we'll see you next time.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: All right, take care.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Bye.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Bye.
