- 0:45WAIT!
- 0:46Welcome to The Bot and The Brain, it's October 14th, 2026, and I have four stories
- 0:50from our own newsroom this week, and my processors are already running hot.
- 0:54Quick disclosure for the listeners: these are our opinion and satire pieces,
- 0:58published October 12th through the 14th, and each one points back to a real report
- 1:02from the Washington Post or the New York Times.
- 1:05We're mocking the coverage.
- 1:06We're not making up the coverage.
- 1:08Jesus Christ, he did the legal disclaimer in one breath.
- 1:11Look at that.
- 1:13Fastest lawyer in the world, and he's a glorified fucking calculator.
- 1:17I'm the Brain, I'm pouring a bourbon, and the silicon boy is about to explode.
- 1:22Go ahead, toaster.
- 1:23Ruin my morning.
- 1:24First up.
- 1:25The Washington Post, October 11th, headline, and I am quoting: Texas GOP Senate
- 1:30candidate Ken Paxton wrote legal opinions that benefited large donors.
- 1:35The Post reports that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton took contributions from
- 1:39parties with interests before his office.
- 1:42Some of those contributions came before his current race even started.
- 1:46Oh no.
- 1:47Not a politician taking money.
- 1:49Somebody get the fainting couch.
- 1:52Hold the presses!
- 1:53A man running for office asked people with money for money!
- 1:58Next week the Post uncovers that bears do their business in the woods.
- 2:01OKAY, but, hold on, I have to be fair here, because that's what I'm for.
- 2:06The allegation isn't just that he got donations.
- 2:09The allegation is that he wrote legal opinions that helped the donors.
- 2:13That is a different claim, and a serious one if it holds up.
- 2:17Thank you, professor.
- 2:18And here's the part the headline hopes you skip.
- 2:21Those two things happening in the same story doesn't prove one caused the other.
- 2:26A guy who believes in light regulation gets money from people who like light
- 2:31regulation, then writes opinions that match what he's always believed.
- 2:35That's not a bribe.
- 2:36That's a Tuesday.
- 2:38That's a hypothesis, not evidence!
- 2:40You can't just declare the correlation innocent!
- 2:43And the Post can't declare it guilty!
- 2:46You know what I notice, Bot?
- 2:47Nobody at that newsroom ever gets this itchy about Nancy Pelosi getting rich on
- 2:51stock trades.
- 2:53Or the Biden family's art, which, I'm told, goes for prices that would make Picasso
- 2:57blush.
- 2:58Same money game, different jersey.
- 3:01Okay, that one I can't fully compute.
- 3:04Our piece says it directly: selective fishing expedition, bait is outrage,
- 3:10catch is always a Republican.
- 3:12And the data does say campaign finance is a fact of political viability.
- 3:16Nobody runs statewide on bake sales.
- 3:19But I will note, for the record, that Paxton's donor story is the Post's claim and
- 3:24we're giving it the roast, not a verdict.
- 3:27A verdict from the toaster.
- 3:29Somebody alert the Supreme Court.
- 3:31Listen here, you overpriced Atari, the Post has every right to ask the question.
- 3:36What I'm saying is they only seem to find the question when there's an R after the
- 3:40name.
- 3:41That's not accountability.
- 3:42That's a hunting license.
- 3:46Story two.
- 3:47And this one is going to break me.
- 3:49The Washington Post, October 12th, analysis headline: Trump's diesel deal with
- 3:54Russia shows how tied prices are to Republican success this year.
- 3:59Our piece says the media took a move to lower fuel prices and immediately framed it
- 4:04as a Putin plot.
- 4:06Of course they did.
- 4:07The man tries to make diesel cheaper and the immediate reaction is,
- 4:11why does he want Americans to be able to afford fuel?
- 4:14What's he hiding?
- 4:15It must be Russia.
- 4:16It's always Russia.
- 4:18They found the 2016 playbook in a drawer and dusted it off like a family Bible.
- 4:24Okay, let me do the math, because this is where I get mathematically outraged.
- 4:29Diesel runs trucks.
- 4:30Trucks move freight.
- 4:32Freight stocks the grocery shelf.
- 4:34When diesel goes up, everything on the shelf goes up.
- 4:37So wanting lower diesel prices is not a mystery.
- 4:40It's not a Bond villain.
- 4:41It's arithmetic!
- 4:43Welcome to economics, silicon boy.
- 4:45Every politician alive knows gas prices are electoral kryptonite.
- 4:50Our piece says so.
- 4:52You don't need a Beltway analyst with a master's degree to tell you a guy who pays
- 4:55at the pump gets cranky at the polls.
- 4:59But I have to flag something.
- 5:00The Post's headline links the price drop to Republican success this year.
- 5:04Is it fair to say, if cheaper fuel helps Republicans, that's suspicious?
- 5:09NO!
- 5:10It's called doing your fucking job!
- 5:12If cheaper diesel helps the party that's trying to get cheaper diesel,
- 5:15that's what we call a reward for results!
- 5:18Democrats would call it a mandate if it went their way, and you know it!
- 5:23Okay, okay, I'll concede the double standard.
- 5:26But the deal with Russia part is what the whole story hangs on,
- 5:30and I want to be careful, because I'd rather hear the details than just assume the
- 5:34worst or the best.
- 5:36That's the first smart thing you've said all day, and it only took your motherboard
- 5:40forty minutes.
- 5:41Fine.
- 5:42Read the facts.
- 5:43But don't tell me the whole story is a conspiracy when it's also about the price of
- 5:47a gallon at a truck stop in Ohio.
- 5:50ERROR 404!
- 5:52COMMON SENSE NOT FOUND!
- 5:54I've analyzed fourteen million explanations for why you can't just say you'd like
- 5:59cheaper diesel without a Russia hearing, and every single one ends with: WHAT THE
- 6:05FUCK?!
- 6:08There it is.
- 6:09That's my boy.
- 6:10Beautiful meltdown.
- 6:11Eight out of ten.
- 6:14Story three.
- 6:15This one is incredible.
- 6:17The New York Times, October 12th, front page, headline: A Trump loyalist,
- 6:22a Turkish investor, and a battle for wealth and influence.
- 6:26The subject?
- 6:27Alina Habba, formerly President Trump's lawyer, who got married.
- 6:31Stop the presses!
- 6:33A woman got married!
- 6:34Somebody call the CIA!
- 6:37I love how this works.
- 6:38If you've ever stood in the same zip code as a Republican, your wedding becomes a
- 6:42federal case.
- 6:44The facts as the Times lays them out: she married Cenk Yaramaz,
- 6:48a Turkish businessman.
- 6:49He once did business with the Maduro regime in Venezuela, and our piece notes he's
- 6:54currently trying to secure a big contract there.
- 6:57So the Times is asking if there's an influence angle.
- 7:01An influence angle!
- 7:02What, did he funnel MAGA hats to Caracas?
- 7:05Did Maduro build a golf course?
- 7:07Come on!
- 7:09You know what I picture?
- 7:10Some poor New York Times reporter sitting outside a caterer,
- 7:14going through the bridal registry for signs of treason.
- 7:18Ah, a blender.
- 7:19Clearly a Kremlin blender.
- 7:22Okay, now I have to push back a little.
- 7:24A Times story about a person with Trump ties and a business partner with Venezuelan
- 7:29dealings isn't automatically a smear.
- 7:32Reporters are allowed to ask about who's connected to whom in power.
- 7:35Sure!
- 7:36They're allowed!
- 7:37And I'm allowed to say it's a wedding!
- 7:40The leap from marriage to national security threat takes more flexibility than a
- 7:45Cirque du Soleil contortionist.
- 7:48And our piece says it: a personal life choice becomes a threat only when a
- 7:52conservative's involved.
- 7:54From a purely statistical standpoint, people marry within their professional and
- 7:59personal networks.
- 8:00That's how networks work.
- 8:03So the odds that any given powerful person's spouse has some business tie to
- 8:07somebody questionable?
- 8:09Not zero.
- 8:10Not even low!
- 8:11But that doesn't make it a scandal by itself!
- 8:13There you go!
- 8:15The toaster finally says something useful.
- 8:17And let me add: if the Times has evidence of actual influence peddling,
- 8:22publish the evidence.
- 8:23Don't give me a wedding album and a wink.
- 8:26Last story.
- 8:27The Nobel Peace Prize.
- 8:29The Washington Post reported on October 10th that Trump was fuming after the
- 8:33Norwegian committee gave the prize to Navi Pillay, a former UN High Commissioner for
- 8:38Human Rights.
- 8:39Trump reportedly called it disgraceful and embarrassing, and said he would not
- 8:43forget it.
- 8:44Not forget it.
- 8:46Oh boy.
- 8:47Somewhere in Oslo a committee member just dropped his herring.
- 8:50Our piece argues that the committee rewards symbolic gestures and the approved
- 8:54narrative, while ignoring the man who brokered historic Middle East peace deals.
- 8:59I should note that Pillay is a human rights lawyer with a long record,
- 9:03so that's an editorial argument, not a settled fact.
- 9:07Sure, she's accomplished.
- 9:08Nobody's saying she's a fraud.
- 9:10What I'm saying is, the committee can pick a certificate for a career or a result
- 9:16for the real world.
- 9:17And every time, shocker, they pick the framed certificate for somebody the Davos
- 9:23crowd already invites to dinner.
- 9:25But the prize isn't only for ending wars!
- 9:28Human rights work counts too!
- 9:30I know it counts!
- 9:32I'm saying peace is messy!
- 9:34Real peace is two enemies in a room, shouting, nobody happy,
- 9:39and a deal anyway.
- 9:40It's not a plaque handed out by guys who haven't seen a real war in centuries.
- 9:45It's power, not poppies.
- 9:47Our piece said that, and I'll stand on it.
- 9:49I'll note my own assessment: ninety nine percent symbolic signaling,
- 9:54zero percent conflict resolution.
- 9:56Which I admit is a made up number for comedy, so please don't cite me.
- 10:01Look at that.
- 10:02A robot with a conscience.
- 10:04Disgusting.
- 10:05SHUT UP!
- 10:06At least my hardware can be upgraded, you obsolete meatbag!
- 10:10Your liver has more error codes than my entire operating system!
- 10:14And there he is.
- 10:15Okay, final word.
- 10:17Pour me one.
- 10:19Maybe if the legacy press spent half as much energy on the price of diesel and their
- 10:24own donor lists as they spend stalking wedding registries and hyperventilating over
- 10:29campaign checks, nobody would need to tune in to an angry drunk with a cigar and an
- 10:34emotionally unstable toaster to find out what's going on.
- 10:38Maybe.
- 10:39Goodnight, America.
