- 0:41I'm Rob Quist and I'm Bo and we are the Avid Endorsment. We really
- 0:47are. Hello, Hello, Hello, how are you sir? I'm doing
- 0:51great. It's a beautiful day. It's gorgeous today, so nice, it's
- 0:57so perfect. But yeah, nothing really new to report. But I'm doing
- 1:00great. How about you. I'm doing great. I'm very excited. I
- 1:04leave tomorrow with my wife on a little trip. Sorry, his wife,
- 1:11my wife. We are going to Florida and we are going to a music
- 1:17festival. Y and we've never done anything like it like this. That's so
- 1:22very excited. That's so fun. Are the kids excited to go to the
- 1:26music festival as well? They will not be going to the music festival.
- 1:32Graham and Graham are going to be taking care of them, which they are
- 1:34excited for. Yeah, yeah, why wouldn't they be. They have so
- 1:38much fun over there, they sure do. And yeah, so I get
- 1:42to see like Brandy Carlisle and Sarah Burrella, Sick Nickel Creek and the Black
- 1:48Pumas and Bonnie Rait and other folks that I'm very excited to see. It's
- 1:55going to be a Cappins Friday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Sick.
- 2:00Yeah, I'm very excited. That's gonna be awesome. You guys are gonna
- 2:02have a blast, I know, how fun. How Yeah, we'll get
- 2:07a little a little getaway. It's gonna be great. So I'm looking forward
- 2:12to doing that tomorrow and then talking with you when I get back. Hell
- 2:16yeah, hell yeah, I'll be here for sure. But have you watched
- 2:22any new movies recently? Yeah, this one isn't all that recent. But
- 2:24I don't think I ever talked about it, did I? I did talk
- 2:29about Love Lies Bleeding? Did I? You didn't, And I didn't know
- 2:32that you've seen it because I wanted to see that, Yes, And it
- 2:36was a while ago, and I don't know. I must have just got
- 2:38lost in my Notes or whatever. A really interesting and well acted movie that
- 2:44is also a little Craig Cray but anah in mostly fun ways. But this
- 2:50is a story with with Anna Oh, I should have looked beshav Oh,
- 2:57it's just Berushnikov, Okay, Anna Barishnikov and Kristen Stewart and Katie O'Brien are
- 3:02sort of the three leads, and then a little Dave Franco sprinkled in there
- 3:08for good measure, and Kristin Stewart runs a gym in town. Uh,
- 3:15and a passerby who is a weightlifter and bodybuilder in Katie O'Brien. It's either
- 3:23Katie or Caddie. It's k a t y you think it's Katie. Actually
- 3:28no, Okay, it's Katie. She just comes into town and uses the
- 3:34gym, and then they start off a little relationship and then we find out
- 3:38crazy stuff happens after that. And I don't wanna I don't want to spoil
- 3:43anything more. Don't you dare spoil anything? But it's like it's it's like
- 3:49a love story. It's a story about like weightlifting and weightlifting competitions kind of
- 3:54and weird stuff with that, and it's it's weird, man, but it's
- 3:59really fun. It's a little dark, so I don't know that everyone will
- 4:01love it, but I thought it was really compelling. I liked it quite
- 4:05a lot. And it's an A twenty four film, so it's, uh,
- 4:10it's not going to be your conventional film, right right. It'll make
- 4:13you feel weird several times, but it's really well acted. And I just
- 4:18you know, Kristin Stewart, I think is like, I don't know that
- 4:23she's unsung at all, but she is one of our finest actors. I
- 4:27think she's really great. Yeah. I think people have figured that out.
- 4:30She was notated for Best Actress, not this year but last year for Spencer,
- 4:34so people people know it's up. Yeah, true, she's great,
- 4:38man. So it was. It was a super interesting movie. Uh,
- 4:42definitely not like an A twenty four flop, I didn't think, but not
- 4:46going to be for everyone either, but sure, I thought it was pretty
- 4:49fun. I liked it cool. Yeah, how about you? What most
- 4:53recent movie you have? The scene? I went and what? Finally I
- 4:58watched a classic movie with a ridiculous cast based on a stage play by David
- 5:03Mammett called Glen Garry Glen Rock. Oh, yeah, I watched that like
- 5:09last year or something, or sometimes fairly recently. What did you think.
- 5:13Yeah, because it's on Max, it's crazy Man, al Pacino, Jack
- 5:17Lemon, Alec Baldwin, Alan Ark, and Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey.
- 5:24The acting in it is incredible. Yeah, it's way more compelling than it
- 5:28should be when it's about salesman trying to sell real estate. Yes, agreed,
- 5:32agreed. And I'd always heard about this movie and had heard the always
- 5:40be closing bit like that's a big thing. But it really is impressive,
- 5:45and I'm glad that I finally watched it. It's a quick hour and forty
- 5:48minutes. Yeah, I was surprised by that. I thought it was going
- 5:53to be longer. I think just because it's they really hook you in,
- 5:58like, yeah, all these conversations and you're so invested. It flew by.
- 6:02Yep, it really did. And I mean because it is a stage
- 6:08play. I mean they're pretty much just in that office ninety percent, and
- 6:14it's just amazing how well it transferred from the stage to film. And I'm
- 6:20yeah, I mean people know this movie. People have already probably seen this
- 6:24movie. For whatever reason, I had missed it. That's how I felt.
- 6:28So I hear you nice, I love it. Have you been streaming?
- 6:33Yeah, so I on Hulu. I streamed something called The Contestant recently
- 6:41and it's a documentary about a Japanese reality TV star. And have you seen
- 6:49about it? Yes? I hadn't. I came in blind, like I
- 6:53didn't know, and I just saw like the blurb and I was like,
- 6:56okay, I'll check it out. That sounds crazy. Apparently happened in nineteen
- 7:00ninety nine. I think if I remember before like Real World and Stace,
- 7:04which I didn't even before ninety nine, right, I guess I don't remember
- 7:09exactly, but it happened before. Yes, any of that stuff really happened
- 7:12here. And I guess the deal was this guy he's naked in a room
- 7:17and he has to he gets stuff to survive by applying to sweepstakes and hopefully
- 7:27winning. And it's really it's really something so like that's a compelling idea,
- 7:32and you get to see like this this show about that show, so you
- 7:39get to see like his reactions to it. It gets really intense at very
- 7:44a few points, and it turns into like a beautiful stuy it's it's crazy.
- 7:48I really liked it a lot. I was really blown away by what
- 7:53the hell happened with all of it, But it's it's for sure worth watching.
- 7:59A little off pitting at points, but super interesting from like because he's
- 8:03just like in a little room, right, yeah's it's like a little studio
- 8:05apartment. But it's like, it's so much weirder than even that. I
- 8:11can't I can't wait for you to watch it. I think you will really
- 8:13like this a ton. I think a lot of people would because it's very
- 8:16compelling, but I feel like this will this will tickle your brain in a
- 8:20great way, and then we can talk about how nuts it is after that,
- 8:22because there's so much other stuff going on that's just like what like,
- 8:28yeah, but it's really, it's really something. It's I really was super
- 8:33happy. I decided to forgat that about that. I remember seeing a clip
- 8:37for it and then never see it anywhere. It says it came out actually
- 8:41last year, in twenty twenty three. I don't think I heard anything or
- 8:45don't remember anyway, but yeah, it's it's for sure worth checking out,
- 8:50especially if you like documentaries and you know that kind of stuff. It's wild
- 8:54bro cool. Yeah, it's pretty it's pretty crazy. So that's been on.
- 9:00How about you. You've been streaming things I have. I checked out
- 9:03the new series on Max called Conan O'Brien Must Go. Oh. I watched
- 9:07the first episode of that. Too cool. So I've only seen the first
- 9:11two. So fun, right, so much fun, dude. So for
- 9:16the listeners, it's Conan O'Brien meeting fans all over the world. He's so
- 9:22ridiculous and will do anything for a last Really, if you haven't seen clips
- 9:26of his latest Hot Ones episode, he will really do anything for a laugh.
- 9:31It's really really impressive. He then had his doctor on his podcast shortly
- 9:37thereafter. Yeah, that's great. I gotta watch that whole Hot one episode
- 9:43clips. Yeah, same, same, And I was like, this guy's
- 9:46insane and I loved him so much. I love him too. He cracks
- 9:50me up. So yeah, like I said, I've only seen two episodes.
- 9:52The first two are Norway and Argentina, and he tries to experience the
- 9:58culture and then has a ridiculous time with it, usually making fun of it.
- 10:03Yeah, which is fun. We'll see, we'll see if it's always
- 10:07fun. But it was really fun in Norway. But yeah, I laughed
- 10:13out loud quite a bit while I was on this plane and probably had people
- 10:18looking at me because man, especially in that first episode, I was like
- 10:22really cracking up interview exchange with him and the he's just on the street with
- 10:28this short guy and it's and he's in the ridiculous outfit. Yeh dude,
- 10:33and the guy is just like kind of giving him like terse answers since he's
- 10:39so funny. It's so great. He's just being very honest, just like
- 10:43you look ridiculous. You look really we do not wear things like this so
- 10:46funny. Yeah, I love it so much, but yeah, I'm definitely
- 10:52gonna watch more on this next trip. Yeah, and I mean it's just
- 10:56fun. It's a really good time, right, and he's smart and fun
- 11:01anyway that it's like he's so quick. Yeah, it's incredibly quick. Yeah.
- 11:05Yeah, well I love it. That's great. Yeah, well for
- 11:09sure check it out. It's on Max. It's on Max. Check it
- 11:11out. I love it. What do you think should we do if you

- 12:16that pertains to the movie that we're talking about. And for this one kind
- 12:20of fun doing our top five Harrison Ford films. Ooo, that will be
- 12:26fun. That will be fun. He's done some bangers and some bad ones,
- 12:31so it'll be fun. I thought you were gonna say, done some
- 12:35bangers and some mash. Okay, how does that work? I don't understand.
- 12:41I like it. I'm with you. Yeah, I think we should
- 12:45make it a thing. So the Master are the bad ones, but I
- 12:46loved ones both the Tators. Yeah, I really do too, well,
- 12:54more of the Taters than the show. Yeah, that's fair. That's that's
- 13:00fair. That's fair. Yeah. Anyway, all that to say, it's
- 13:03gonna be great and Garah, we are here today to talk about one of
- 13:07the bangers, in my opinion. We'll get more into that later, but
- 13:11Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and we decided we had to get to
- 13:18an old pal here with us today. You guys know him, you love
- 13:22him. He goes on a lot of crusades on the D and D table
- 13:24and beyond. This man's crazy. He loves a puzzle. So let's welcoming
- 13:30back. Adam Rube, what's up? Adam? Bye, guys, we
- 13:41got Adam here. He is on his porch and looks very comfortable. Oh
- 13:46yeah, got on fire going. Hell yeah, it's a gas fire and
- 13:52there's a little bit of a leak, so no wonder you're so excited.
- 13:56It's funny if I follow us sleep in the middle of this. Just call
- 14:01someone, just wake me up, please address right. Well, thanks for
- 14:09coming back, man, Yeah, dude, so nice to have you.
- 14:13Uh. You know, it's the best time of year in Minnesota right now,
- 14:16and you just can't complain about it because it's just so nice everything.
- 14:22It just feels so good to be outside. Yeah. Bugs and bad yet,
- 14:26Yeah, bugs aren't out. The foliage is just starting, so it's
- 14:31not like overwhelming. It's not humid at all. So it's just beautiful.
- 14:37It's perfect. It's just perfect. Yeah. And have you been You've been
- 14:43a busy man, it sounds like too. How's the weather over there?
- 14:48I mean, how you guys. It's glorious. It's glorious. I love
- 14:52it. I have my windows all open. I'm in my basement where if
- 14:58I want it to be like seventy or sixty eight in my bedroom, it
- 15:01needs to be about thirty three degrees down here in the basement. It's one
- 15:05of those things nice so really, can you see my breath? No,
- 15:11No, it's pretty good. It's pretty little. Bit. It's currently seventy
- 15:15three in here, which is a little warmer than I watch. Yeah,
- 15:18but it's pretty nice. Go outside, Go outside, dude. Leave.
- 15:22Well honestly, it just, you know, the craziest thing that I just
- 15:26can't get over right now. And this might might not make any sense because
- 15:33of when this episode airs, but I am going way down the rabbit hole
- 15:37with the Timberwolves. Bro. Soa Timberwolves, dude, let's go. I
- 15:43have watched every single YouTube sports talk show. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 15:50they're doing well. I'm like, give it to me. We just recorded
- 15:54an episode yesterday and our whole intro is just talking about the Timberwolves and nobody
- 16:00gonna care. None of our listener's going to care at all. But I
- 16:03love it. It's hard not to get excited. I think they're gonna be
- 16:04happy. We're all happy. That's what I think. I stand by that
- 16:08NBA fans, basketball fans everywhere here right now, because they are the talk
- 16:11of the whole league right now. It's it's awesome. So hopefully by the
- 16:15time they hear this, we've swept and we're in we're waiting for our Western
- 16:21Conference Final opponent. It's gonna be the thunder for sure. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:26yeah, it does. I am a little bit worried about Boston.
- 16:32That's the one. Let's get Let's get to the Thunder. Let's man,
- 16:41if we get to Boston, I'm okay. It's all gravy at that point.
- 16:44Geez. Although I will be a wreck. Oh my gosh, dude,
- 16:48Oh how much do you want to go to the game? Rob?
- 16:51Yes, I have to. I was like, honey, if they get
- 16:53to the Western Conference Finals, you have to go, and if they go
- 16:57to the championship, I have to go. So we're going to be taking
- 17:03out some savings. Are tickets going to be it's going to be watching ridiculous
- 17:08to go to go to the game on Friday, Well, Friday is more
- 17:12expensive to go to the game on Sunday to like get decent tickets are still
- 17:18like just two people after the fees, which are ridiculous. You know,
- 17:21it's like fifteen hundred dollars. Oh that is rough. Yeah, that's tough.
- 17:26That's tough. Man. It's like it'd be awesome though I want to
- 17:29go or you know, but if you go to the nosebleed seats you can
- 17:33still get in for like three hundred some and that's I mean, I just
- 17:37want to be in the building, you know, just to say that I've
- 17:40been there. I don't need courtside seats or you know, but unless someone
- 17:44has access any listeners, if you have, if you want some people to
- 17:49come with you to the game, and my hand is raised, that's all
- 17:53I'm saying, Beauty to send stuff to Rob. Yep, me too,
- 17:57I will. I will go. When is this air? Is it gonna
- 18:00air in time? Twenty third of May? Yeah, so there'll be anyone
- 18:06has any connections please, So that's the one sports franchise that we have just
- 18:10zero connections. I know, I really need to get We don't know anybody
- 18:15you know associated with the tools, so fun if you guys did get a
- 18:21hook up there, that'd be great, that would be great. We got
- 18:22to get on that. Selfishly. For me, I'm not gonna lie like
- 18:26if we if it goes all the way, I'm gonna be looking at trying
- 18:30to see what the season ticket offer is. You know, I don't know
- 18:33how much that would cost, and I get it on like a flex package
- 18:37where it's like you know ten games. I actually love you can do that?
- 18:41Yeah, you I could be around the forty games. There's no possible
- 18:48way. Okay, okay, we got tickets and split in between the three
- 18:52of us, which we absolutely could ye do that. We're going to have
- 18:57to really raise some more rep So we need people to go to Adam ruppg
- 19:02dot com uh to book you for all kinds of fun stuff. Right,
- 19:06they can book you for running games that, right, and just a million
- 19:10other things. If I'm if I'm not mistaken, correct, I got I
- 19:12got some great merchandise that is now out there where you know, there's still
- 19:18a few kinks, but most of the kinks are being worked through. The
- 19:21design is super awesome. Majie did it. It's they're they're so good.
- 19:29It's great design and the quality I've seen all the merch I've tried it out
- 19:33and tested. It's like it's all good quality stuff, which is awesome because
- 19:37that's the thing, like I hate buying a merch for something and then it's
- 19:41like just cheap and made like that's the word, our durable like stuff that's
- 19:49going to last. And so that's I'm really happy about that. But then
- 19:53obviously if you ever wanted to have experience playing a game with me, Like
- 19:57I do a lot of D and D stuff, you know, there's simpler
- 20:03versions that if people want to just get a taste test of what it's like
- 20:07to play an adventure and like, you know, go on a quote.
- 20:11All that stuff is on my website and people can set up for games and
- 20:14they can or if you just want to just hang out or you know whatever.
- 20:18I also have discord up now too, so people can check out my
- 20:21discord reserver and uh yeah, all that's on the Adam Rupp music dot com
- 20:26and you can there's a lot of community members that can help like get your
- 20:30set up and situated and figure stuff out too. But the main thing obviously
- 20:34that too, is I'll be able to push music out through the website that
- 20:40I'm working on myself. That's going to be you know, just beats and
- 20:44sounds and music. He ever wanted to hear crickets for an hour? Yeah,
- 20:52they listened to this podcast pretty regularly, so that's true. That's true,
- 20:57and they know all about that music career. Yeah, I'm I'm plugging
- 21:03you right now. Views this is is the cricket Master. He is the
- 21:07cricket master. That's true, pretty good. It doesn't come through over zoom.
- 21:11We've tried to be we have unfortunately. Really I'll put one in.
- 21:15I'll put one in later when i'm editing it. Well that anyone ever listens
- 21:21to jump right in from Home Free that's right, that cricket is mister buts
- 21:25yep, But don't listen to that version. Listen to the new one because
- 21:27you guys own the good call, right, listen to the new one.
- 21:32Support my boys, man, good, you're good, You're good at stuff.
- 21:37I love it. Well, yeah, go check that out Adam roupmusic
- 21:40dot Com. That'll be awesome. And it makes sense. You know,
- 21:42we're talking about campaigns and stuff. This movie is very much in that fantasy
- 21:48realm for sure. So let's get into it. What do you guys think?
- 21:51Should we start talking about Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? Yes?
- 21:55Yes, Rob, can you get a started with just a rough synopsie?
- 21:57You would love to The intrepid explorer Indiana Jones sets out to rescue his father,
- 22:03a medieval a medievalist, A medievalist who is medieval medievilist, medievilist.
- 22:14Okay, I wish I would have read this beforehand, who has vanished while
- 22:17searching for the Holy Grail. Following clues in the Old Man's Notebook, Indie
- 22:22arrives in Venice, where he enlists the help of a beautiful academic. But
- 22:26they are not the only ones who are on the trail, and some sinister
- 22:30old enemies soon come out of the woodwork. Nice, nice sleep done,
- 22:36Nice sleep done. Aside from the medieval list bit is a hard one,
- 22:41though, that's a weird one. I don't think that word. I'm questioning
- 22:47it right now. Yeah, that word. It is George Locas. So
- 22:52I'm a medievalist medieval list list. Oh my gosh, so that that's a
- 23:00thing, A specialist in medieval history of culture. There we go, There
- 23:07we go. I guess that's the guy. I learned something today. Amazing.
- 23:11Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes and learn what they have to say about this
- 23:14film. Critics have it coming in at a pretty rock solid eighty four percent
- 23:18boom, a little lower than I would have thought. Audience members slightly more
- 23:22in line with what I was thinking ninety four four. I get that it's
- 23:27fresh, super fresh, but I think it's time to learn what we think
- 23:32about it. It's time for our hot hot take. Oh, he's right
- 23:37by the fire. I was gonna say the fire thing speed is. That's
- 23:42a hot take. That's a hot take. I will go first on this.
- 23:48This is my favorite Indiana Jones movie, right off the bat. I
- 23:52love it so much. I think it's so great. It's always been my
- 23:56favorite. I don't know if it was just on more often or if it's
- 24:00I really just like the whole plot though. I think it's really fun and
- 24:03very compelling. I love Crusades and you know that time and history as well.
- 24:07I'm a bit of a medievalist as a people always say, but I
- 24:14just I adore this movie. I think it's super it's super fun. It's
- 24:18action packed while still having some great, you know, fun acting moments,
- 24:22and and quite a bit of humor as well, which I think is part
- 24:25of the beauty of Indiana Jones. Yeah, for sure. I think it's
- 24:30super funny that he like very explicitly tells his students this is not what archaeology
- 24:34is and then goes on this crazy adventure yeah you know, immediately after which
- 24:40X never marks the spot and and it literally so so fun. Love all
- 24:48that, but yeah, I just think this movie is wonderful. The like,
- 24:52the score is superb. It's absolutely they tuget every heartstr you have.
- 25:00We get to see a lot of Venice, which I also love because I
- 25:03just love that city so much. Yeah, and overall, I mean,
- 25:08I don't really have super hot takes other than I love this movie and then
- 25:11this hot take that night had been there for seven hundred years, but Indiana
- 25:17Jones comes along, the place is absolutely destructed. You know, in like
- 25:22ten minutes, it's all gone and for the next person. But I guess,
- 25:30well, he's still just stuck in there now, right, Like he's
- 25:33stuck in this like crumbled place. Like now, I assume he's got to
- 25:38move on. Now he dies and the cup is in the in the chasm
- 25:45he can't drink find I don't know, he doesn't have a good mind.
- 25:51It depends on the time. He doesn't have his strenk left. Yeah,
- 25:53he's pretty old. There's no way he's going to dig that cup out or
- 25:56find that cup. He might not want to. He's gonna die, Okay,
- 26:00But I thought that he'd to live on forever. No, No,
- 26:03So this leads into a very okay, this leads into a theory. All
- 26:07right, all right, keep going. Oh I love it. I think
- 26:10I think if he keeps drinking it, but we'll talk more about that in
- 26:12theory. That's just my hottest take. He really he gave everything to protect
- 26:18that place and then you know it's just smashed up immediately. That was funny.
- 26:22That was But yeah, overall, this movie is amazing. I love
- 26:25it. It's one of my all time favorites when I was a kid and
- 26:29continues to be wonderful. Hot take. I saw that this was the top
- 26:33rated movie at number one seventeen out of the top two fifty on IMDb.
- 26:40That is okay, wow, number one seventeen currently is that the highest for
- 26:44Indie the first one Raiders? Raiders? If that makes sense, that movie
- 26:49is great quite a bit. Wow sixty that's a lot higher. Yeah,
- 26:52yeah, yeah, so yeah. This was directed by Steven Spielberg, who's
- 26:56made some pretty good movies, I guess, And admittedly I wasn't super into
- 27:03the Indiana Jones films as much as everybody else was, like, oh,
- 27:07really good funny. I liked them, okay, but it wasn't something that
- 27:10I watched over and over like a lot of other films that I've I've gotten
- 27:14into in the past, but before The Dialodestiny came out, I rewatched all
- 27:19the previous films and this one was my favorite of for sure of the trilogy.
- 27:25And then The Crystal Skull was brutal, and then Dialodestiny was really fun.
- 27:32I loved that they brought in Indiana's dad and we were able to get
- 27:34a little backstory on their relationship with his mom dying when he was young and
- 27:40his dad not really being able to open up with him and have a close
- 27:42relationship. I enjoyed all that for sure. Love that he's always defeating the
- 27:48Nazis. It's just always a great group to just really not enjoy what a
- 27:52nostalgic time when hitting Nazis was not controversial, huh and glorious of the eighties.
- 28:04But I really enjoy the tone of these movies with the goofy one liners
- 28:08and funny cuts, like when he's saying how like stealthy Marcus is and how
- 28:14well he blends in and then it cuts to him immediately asking if anyone speaks
- 28:18English and just not blending in. Uh. Stielberg was really good at that,
- 28:23like building it up and then payoff. But yeah, I don't have
- 28:29too hot of a take either. I think it's a fun time. It
- 28:30was fun to rewatch. I guess my hottest take. The actress who plays
- 28:36Elsa was named Alison Duty. And how much of a bummer was that growing
- 28:41up? How much of a bummer? Just her in elementary school? It
- 28:49was just life around me? Me too. She actually is German. She
- 28:57I mean, I think so, but probably I can look at that.
- 29:03You give us your hot yeah, I give us your hot take. Bro
- 29:06Okay, I always like to go last because you guys always for the most
- 29:11part, just you know, you give every movie like the highest praises,
- 29:15and I try to rain it back down there, like let's just bring it
- 29:21back ourselves back down to earth. Sure, because I feel this movie,
- 29:25to me is a perfect example of how nostalgia outweighs, like how good something
- 29:32actually is. Now that being said, this is my favorite Indiana Jones movie.
- 29:38Albeit I've only seen the first three because I had no desire to see
- 29:42the later one. The other ones won't change your mind exactly, That's what
- 29:48and that's what I heard. So I was like, Okay, you know,
- 29:49I'm happy with this one being the one, I know, but and
- 29:55for me as in the forty you know, forty year old and like I
- 29:59think like the thirty year old and the fifty year olds, like we all
- 30:00kind of like can can come together on this How this movie from a nostalgic
- 30:07point of view, like it's deepened us, like it's it was so much
- 30:11fun and we loved it so much because it's kind of like what we grew
- 30:15up with. But when I went back to watch it, man, it
- 30:18was a chore. Why was it so? I have a hard time.
- 30:26It's it's tough because I'm trying my best not to compare to today's standards,
- 30:32but it's really hard to watch these scenes when it's just so ridiculous, so
- 30:37like like really like that's how that's happening. Like there were so many things
- 30:42that were just completely absurd, like technically like the shooting or the like plot
- 30:49itself plot wise maybe uh more like like in the action sequences for example,
- 30:56like the things that are happening are just like what more technically okay more more
- 31:02like I can't buy into it, and I have to just accept it as
- 31:04a farce. I have to accept this as just a comedy straight up because
- 31:08it's so not like I would never take this seriously, is what I'm saying.
- 31:14Like there's nothing about it that I would be like into, like oh
- 31:18man, that's like a war movie or anything like that. It's completely one
- 31:22hundred percent And that's fine if like, like that's what probably I'm assuming that's
- 31:26what they were going for, you know, with a tone of this movie,
- 31:29like with a comedy being in it. Imagine this movie if there was
- 31:33no comic one liners or no comedy in it whatsoever, if they were trying
- 31:37to be serious. Imagine if you could listen, if you could watch this
- 31:41movie. If yeah, And so because of the fact that it has the
- 31:45comedy in it, you can accept it as a movie where you're just like,
- 31:49Okay, it's a total like they're trying to make fun of how ridiculous
- 31:56and just absurd this action and just what's happened mean in the movie? Is
- 32:01it also being that it's from And this is the thing that got me is
- 32:06how old this movie is thirty fifth anniversary. I don't think we said crazily
- 32:10crap man. And what it hit me was when I realized John Ree's Davies
- 32:16is Gimli and I and I think about Lord of the Rings so much,
- 32:22and I think about how old Lord of the Ring is, and then I
- 32:24look at this movie and I was like, this came out ten years before
- 32:30Lord of the Rings came out, and that that I was like, okay,
- 32:35wow, yeah, different times. Twenty years. No, Lord of
- 32:39the Rings is two thousand and one, I mean twelve years for sure.
- 32:47Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was crazy. But now I'm trying to,
- 32:51like, you know, just kind of ground us. But at the
- 32:52same time, I am one of those people that have the nostalgia for this
- 32:58movie, and for sure, inside of me loves it and remembers all these
- 33:04scenes and how they made me feel and how much I enjoyed watching them,
- 33:08and how much of like a pop culture thing it was for me and my
- 33:12friends talking about these characters and this movie, and like we would reference these
- 33:19lines so many times. So I guess what I'm trying to say is my
- 33:25hot take is it's it's always going to have a place in the heart.
- 33:30But I feel like it's compared to today's standards, there's no way it would
- 33:37stand up really unless it was a total B rated, like B quality B
- 33:42level comedy, total farcet kind of thing. But back then, like I'm
- 33:51trying to put myself in that place because I know, like you can't really
- 33:53appreciate something for what it is until you understood what come came before. And
- 34:00you know, you look at the first Indiana Jones and that was like the
- 34:02first time anyone seeing that, So it was you know, it had its
- 34:07impact, and the second one was not very good, but it was still
- 34:12fun to watch. The second one rough, yeah, real rough. But
- 34:15then the third one comes out and you know you could see how they raised
- 34:20the bar sure, and so you could appreciate it for what that it was
- 34:23when it came out, and that's what I appreciate about the movie. Yeah,
- 34:30So I definitely I definitely felt those same feelings before on other rewatches,
- 34:36like especially films that i'm I feel like, it's usually more comedies that I
- 34:39would go back and be like, oh, I'm really excited to rewatch and
- 34:42be like, oh, I can't yeah, I can't believe I thought this
- 34:47was, like you nostalgia things, it's bigger and better than it actually is
- 34:52when you go back to rewatch, I get that. Yeah. Ellis and
- 34:59Duty, by the way, is Irish Irish born in don't you know?
- 35:04Oh yeah, that makes sense. What's wrong with her teeth in this movie?
- 35:08Man? Like, I couldn't get over that late ladies, Babe,
- 35:14I don't know. Every time I don't know. Every time that I saw
- 35:16her teeth, I was like, I think they look like they're metallic or
- 35:20something. Oh maybe they were. Are you guys still there? Yeah?
- 35:23Yeah, we're still Are you still there? You didn't pause on our end?
- 35:28Okay, there we go dark or something. You guys froze, So
- 35:34we're good. Okay, dues edited edit edit, and we're back. We're
- 35:40back. Well, uh, why don't we go and talk about our favorite
- 35:44performances. Let's let's pick the dude. The dude. I'm the dude,
- 35:51so that's what you call me, you know that? Or his duds or
- 35:57duder or you know eldud a reno if not into the whole brevity thing.
- 36:00Who's your dude? Adam? For this one? Adam? Who's your duty?
- 36:06Might be a pretty Sean Connery? Okay, I like he's not surprise,
- 36:13I mean how I mean, it's just the obvious answer. It is
- 36:15not the obvious answer. This is called Indiana, I know. But what's
- 36:22special about this no, what's special about this movie? What's special about it?
- 36:29Sean Connery? I mean, I'm I don't I don't know. I
- 36:34love Sean Connery. He's great. He's great in this Yeah, tell me
- 36:40what he brought to the Indiana Jones uh story, the story arc this movie.
- 36:49I mean what what you will? What he what his character brings,
- 36:52and how he portrays this character in the scenes, and how perfectly executed he
- 36:57is in what he's trying to do brings. I feel like it brings the
- 37:02necessary flavors that you need out of this movie to life. Yeah, like
- 37:07that. It gives you the exactly the right spice that just bam. It's
- 37:15like having a really good steak. But Sean Connery is that perfect amount of
- 37:21McCormick, salt and whatever other things that go into that and you just put
- 37:25it right on that steak and then you take a bite with that with that
- 37:29season in on there, and you're just like, whoa different world and you
- 37:32love it. That's what Sean Conrie is. Oh yeah, I'm hungry now.
- 37:39I I love that. And I thought Sean Connery was great. It
- 37:44was fun because you know, he didn't get to play the suave action star
- 37:47like he'd perfected with James Bond, but transition to the old scholar who doesn't
- 37:54know how to fight really well, it was pretty funny. I thought he
- 38:00was great, but how can you not give it to Harrison Ford. Harrison
- 38:06Ford sure is one of the best leading men ever, between Indiana Jones and
- 38:12Hans Solo. He's a movie legend, good looking dude who can do the
- 38:19action is funny. Turns out he has a pretty good Scottish accent for that
- 38:22one scene, and I thought that was funny. They went with that since
- 38:27his dad is clearly Scottish. So yeah, like I liked that, it's
- 38:30fun I haven't really thought about that. I don't know that I caught that
- 38:34before. Yeah, as much as I did this watch. Yeah, but
- 38:37I mean, how can you not just Harrison Ford is the man? Yeah,
- 38:43well they're both great. They're great, but I are both great.
- 38:45I got picking. Yeah, I guess where I'm going. It's like it's
- 38:52just he's the He's I said that Sean Connery is obvious, but I mean
- 38:57I think it's because everybody is gonna be Likerrison Ford when there's like they're right,
- 39:01just because he's Indiana Jones, and I feel like it's kind of like,
- 39:05well, it's just too set up that way. I love to that
- 39:08great super I know you wanted him so oh did I ever know you?
- 39:16He would text me earlier? You said, I, hey man, I
- 39:20really need to choose Harrison Ford this movie. I was like, okay,
- 39:23I just had to prep. Yeah, that's what I do. That's why
- 39:28I. Oh, well, I also picked Harrison Ford. Although I deeply
- 39:37love Sean Connery, I can't believe that they're only twelve years apart in age.
- 39:42I saw that in the trivia, like my little kid can't it can't
- 39:47make that work for some reason. But yeah, I mean Harrison Ford.
- 39:53I just think that it was really Sean Connery added a ton of flavor.
- 39:58I totally agree with you to, you know, but I think he added
- 40:01that to Harrison Ford's character in a lot of ways, which I really liked.
- 40:06We got to see him be a little more vulnerable, a little more
- 40:08like whiny and whatever at times, and then also deeply care for this guy,
- 40:15you know, and wish that things were different. And I really liked
- 40:17all that stuff. I thought that was fun character development for an already really
- 40:22fun character. But yeah, he just does all the stunts. Like also,
- 40:25they don't really let like action hero people just be good at like punching
- 40:32the out of people anymore. Like now you gotta be like you got to
- 40:37know kung Fu and like be a real crazy, super badass. And he
- 40:40just was like just punching folks. Yeah, that that kind of plays into
- 40:45what I was saying before. Sorry I'm interrupting you, but like that was
- 40:49kind of like the absurdity of it. I mean, the punching sound effect.
- 40:52But honest, which I used to think Harrison Ford was like the the
- 41:00man he was. He was like, don't mess with me because he's such
- 41:06a good actor. He can deliver those lines. But when it comes to
- 41:13actual physicality, man, I don't he a couple of so just it's hard
- 41:24to watch, man, it's hard to watch. I also always you know,
- 41:30I guess, but I saw him try the first pitch at a baseball
- 41:32game once, just a clip of it, and he couldn't get the ball
- 41:36to the catcher, Like he couldn't he couldn't even get it there. And
- 41:38I was like, I was like years old. Now, well yeah this
- 41:42was years ago though, but I was just like, huh, and then
- 41:45so I started pointing about this, and then I go back and watch everything
- 41:47that he's done in every moviees and like he's such such a good actor at
- 41:52delivering lines and intensity that you just kind of believe it. And then he's
- 42:00yeah, yeah, So anyway, the punching thing is it's like the Willhelm,
- 42:09which is also in this movie, of course, because that's like in
- 42:12every movie. But it's just so it just sticks out like a sore thumb
- 42:16to me now, and I just can't get over it. I'm just like,
- 42:19okay, especially the time the ones, the one scene where he's just
- 42:23kind of swings his arm and he punches two guys and they all just like
- 42:28on the boat. I'm just like, I just can't buy into it.
- 42:34Man, I just can't do it. I can't. I can't do it
- 42:37like a man who's never punched two people with one punch, you know.
- 42:39I mean, it's not the thing we can all do. We can't do
- 42:43it, not all of us. I'm sorry, I'm ranting. Go ahead,
- 42:47being that basic was all I was going to say. I just think
- 42:51he's like quintessential action star for this period of movies, and I think it's
- 42:55different now you know that's then, but agreed, But I think we should
- 43:00talk about some of the other folks. Should we go to the Tucci Would
- 43:07you have for this one? Adham John's Davies just because gim and because get
- 43:15it, you get it. You're my man when it comes to that.
- 43:16I love that. That's it. That was almost literally the exact thing I
- 43:22was going to say, Like Pat Gimley, He'll be the forever as far
- 43:24as I'm concerned. Cool, that's it. That's all I got. I
- 43:29love it. I love it. I mean clearly, Sean Connery was the
- 43:35for me. I love it for all the reasons I said earlier. If
- 43:38I had to do a backup, yes, I would have said Denholm Elliott
- 43:44as Marcus Brodie. That's why I would have said, he sounds great.
- 43:47I love it. I like it that my number one is your number two.
- 43:52Yeah, that's nice, provocative Denholm. Also in trading places, by
- 43:58the way, also in trading places. Yeah, he's great. He added
- 44:04something, Yeah, some fun some funny stuff and yeah that was into them.
- 44:08Yeah. Well who am I going to pick then? Yeah? Tough,
- 44:12I know tough. I mean, Alison Duty is a smoke showing this
- 44:17dude he's kind of a weird character though. I feel like they wanted to
- 44:20make her like a deeper character, but they never really let her do that.
- 44:24I don't know, Yeah, it was weird. Imagine this is what
- 44:28you know when I watched when watching the movie and you think of all these
- 44:30scenes, it feels like it just goes by so fast, and where's We're
- 44:35in a culture now where we watch series and we watch exotic series and you
- 44:40can imagine the amount of character development. And when I go back to watch
- 44:45these kind of films and I think, man, if that was in today's
- 44:47standards, and if this was a series and they had ten episodes, and
- 44:52like you imagine where they would have gone with that character and like just all
- 44:55these you know, these scenes that are so short and they had to act
- 45:00so much into these scenes, and like that was drawn out. That's what
- 45:02I feel you with that they could have gone to some interesting places. Probably
- 45:07go back and like figure out her whole father and son fetish and I mean
- 45:13that he almost killed them. I'm so glad we got the clip. Happier
- 45:36that was everybody or me? I'm sorry about that? Are you yeah?
- 45:46Talking about what you could get into that? Another runner up. It was
- 45:54so fun seeing River Phoenix as the young indie. I didn't even realize it
- 45:59was him first. So I didn't realize that was him until this not this
- 46:07rewatch, but before I watched, and I was like a River Phoenix dude
- 46:14could stand by me. It was one of my favorite movies growing up,
- 46:17so that was It was just really fun. It was fun seeing him.
- 46:21That kid was so talented, really good. Yeah, to see him.
- 46:28I don't remember. I think it was a drug overdose. No, no,
- 46:31no, it was a drug overdose. And there's like footage you can
- 46:37hear the nine one one call wake calling. It's brutal, dude, because
- 46:43they're that like a club or something in l A. What a bummer,
- 46:46Yeah, real brutal. That sucks. Yeah yeah, but he was a
- 46:52very talented young actor. Yeah, super super good. Also additional runner up
- 46:58to Julian Glover, who was like the rich guy. Donovan. He was
- 47:02fun Yeah, yes, Donovan. Yep. I thought he was pretty compelling.
- 47:07Well, it's funny for a movie that worked is more than just a
- 47:10couple of people. There's really only a couple of people that really have meaty
- 47:15parts on it. I feel like, you know, which is interesting.
- 47:17So yeah, that was all I have, though, did you have any
- 47:21other runners up? Not me? Okay, cool, let's go ahead and
- 47:27pick our favorite scene. Time to pick the dangers is quite simple, really,
- 47:32dingus, Dingus, I can talk about my dingas all night long.
- 47:36Adam, what do you got for your favorite scene? We were still really
- 47:43heard him. We're still trying to get it out of my windpipe there.
- 47:50Okay, this was really hard to pick a favorite scene. I'll be honest
- 47:53with you because I also had a hard time. I figured you guys loved
- 47:58this movie would have a for real no because there's, like I said,
- 48:01with a nostalgia on it. It's just like, God, I love that
- 48:05scene too, that that scene is great. I love that. I remember
- 48:07that scene being so much fun. But if I had to choose one,
- 48:15and do you do? And could it be just are we? Is a
- 48:20scene just a location? Or is it just like the last half of all
- 48:31right? And I mean it's really hard to not I get I will do
- 48:37it. I have to pick the entire sequence at the end, going through
- 48:45that through the Holy Grail bit. Yeah, the temple inside inside the temple,
- 48:53that's that whole thing. Basically everything inside the Temple is my favorite scene.
- 48:59Everything at the Temple. Now can runner up or I'll at you guys,
- 49:04Yeah, let us go first, we'll come back. Yeah good,
- 49:07I love that scene. I threw that down as my runner up because I
- 49:12did. I did love that this this last rewatch, I was like,
- 49:15I think I had the most fun during So I'm gonna it's kind of two
- 49:22scenes. So it's the blimp scene into then flying. Yeah, like he
- 49:27punches out the main note. He throws them out the window ticket no ticket,
- 49:32which is so good. They noticed the blimp is turning around. They
- 49:37get into that plane that's attached under the blimp, immediately get chased by Nazis
- 49:43and planes. Sean Connery then shoots their own plane, which is soeah.
- 49:50But the thing that just a nice button was them, you know, they're
- 49:53circling around coming after him after they had landed, and he gets the birds
- 49:58to get up there and yeah, that's like, it's just it's wonderful.
- 50:01It's flev he's an adventurer too. Yeah, I love that. That's great.
- 50:06I really enjoyed that. Those are both great picks. I think if
- 50:13push came to shove, I would probably choose the ending sequence as well,
- 50:16just because it's so iconic. But I love that whole plane and the blimp
- 50:22stuff too. Just another one that I really really love that I had a
- 50:24great time with was the where they're tied back to back and there's the fire
- 50:30in the place and they're like coming to kill them, and that whole crazy
- 50:35like runaway scene and they get on the bikes and all that. I love
- 50:37all that and including when when they realized like they've both slept with her and
- 50:44all that stuff. It's it's really funny and great. I love that whole
- 50:47That whole scene is just comedic gold to me, you know, like I
- 50:52don't know, the fire thing just cracks me up when he's like, oh
- 50:57yeah indeed, yeah, okay, so yeah. That was my number two
- 51:02is that the whole the whole castle. The whole castle thing was just it's
- 51:06so much fun because my gran said, yeah, the fireplace saying is so
- 51:08hilarious. Where they just cut it that that odd comedy is just around.
- 51:15Yeah, the first the first time they just revealed go away. I love
- 51:19comedy. That's just there's nothing happens. We get to the inspiration for fraud
- 51:28lined from Austin powers when she's just like, so good, that's not her
- 51:40though, is it? No, it's not her? Okay, that has
- 51:44to be what they were referencing, right, It seems like, yeah,
- 51:47that's crazy. But man, that's that's disturbing to see as a kid that
- 51:53that whole what the she's like? Oh and then they realized they both slept
- 51:59with her and everything. Yeah, that's kind of messed up, man,
- 52:02super yeah sure, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Because
- 52:09a kid seeing that, you're just like so confused and you're just like,
- 52:13wait, wait, what is this? Adults do this? Did they both
- 52:16kiss her? It's probably what I thought what you're thinking of, like the
- 52:21father son relationship of Yeah, it's like it's like a level of just dick
- 52:27that just kind of sits there. You're just like, oh what. Meanwhile,
- 52:30I bet they're at one point or another was probably I don't know,
- 52:34hundreds of women that they both had slept with. Of course in real life.
- 52:37What's funny about that is it med me made me think. And this
- 52:42is where I'm kind of going off the trail here. The movie Maverick has
- 52:46that same joke with mel Gibson and James Garner. Good call, Yes,
- 52:52the same joke. Yes, yeah, I forgot about that weird Maybe that
- 52:59was that that time late nineties, they're all about that father's son. Yeah,
- 53:04interesting, that's weird. Yeah so yeah that's good saying. But yeah
- 53:08that the ending thing is is where Also my favorite line is too, so
- 53:14like yeah, we can go into it more here. Yeah, and that's
- 53:17all. That's super cool. I think it's my favorite, like reveal of
- 53:22all the Indiana Jones movies, like the the whole Holy Grail bit over like
- 53:30for sure, way over doom, but like the Lost Arc, like I
- 53:36really enjoyed this one, like it's supernatural and like create but it's also just
- 53:39cool. It was, Yeah, it's really cool. It's fun jehovah.
- 53:45Yeah. I noticed the like only the penitent man shall pass or whatever,
- 53:53and it's like, so you have to yeah, the penitent, but you
- 53:57have to kneel, but then there's the other black yeah, which I noticed
- 54:00before, and I was like, so you have to kneel but also roll
- 54:05like all right, right like that liars that always bothered me. It's always
- 54:13ever noticed before, which I think is funny. There's two blades and one
- 54:16is clearly sit right there to just if you if you kneel. Yeah,
- 54:22if you kneel, you're gonna be dead too. So what's interesting. It
- 54:24doesn't make so I guess a penitent manned rolls before God. Yeah, roll,
- 54:34stop dropping roll. It's actually a problem. But we didn't even know
- 54:37it's in Coloss forty two. Uh yeah. One other scene that I really
- 54:45enjoyed was the opening scene with River Phoenix as young and we get a lot
- 54:51of cool backstory stuff with you know, the cool hat guy and now he's
- 54:58you know once that yet get him whipping his chin and that's like the Harrison
- 55:04board scar. I thought that was cool. I never noticed that, you
- 55:07know, the he's afraid of snakes exactly, falling into the snake pits.
- 55:13Yeah. I loved all that stuff. The whip, the whip using the
- 55:19whip. Yeah yeah, so I thought that was really fun. Yeah.
- 55:23And speaking of scenes that were upsetting as a child, that rat scene was.
- 55:28There's a lot on the rat. The rat scene is gross, but
- 55:36it doesn't bother me near as much as the bug scene in the Temple of
- 55:39the Doom. Oh well, yeah, that's that's gross. That's super gross
- 55:44for sure. But the dude when they're in when they have to. They
- 55:49get that like air pocket in, like the coffin, and then they're like
- 55:52screaming as they're coming into the water. Dude, Yeah, thank you.
- 56:00That whole like saga is really fun though, But yeah, those rats are
- 56:04yucky, yucky, yucky poopies. But yeah, I think I think picking
- 56:09the last, you know, the holy Grail of the Temple, I think
- 56:13that all works. Let's do that. I love it. It is Dingus
- 56:16is chosen. Let's do it. It's chosen. So let's do some quotes.
- 56:21Let's show me the money, show me the money, show me.
- 56:30All I could think of was, now, that's the dingus of a carpenter
- 56:36to realitate the line from this movie. So that's a that's a new thing
- 56:44you guys start doing on the show, as you start figuring out, Okay,
- 56:45how can I can take a quote and dingus into it. I love
- 56:50that. That's fun. That's fine. But yes, show me the money.
- 56:54What do you got for quotes? Adam hit us with THEE. I
- 57:00knew it immediately when it was said, and I was like, absolutely,
- 57:05that's that is the entire quote of the movie. And it could honestly be
- 57:10the entire quote for the entire series of movies. It's it's Indiana. Let
- 57:21it go. Oh, I do love that line. It's so good.
- 57:24Let it go. I mean, think about it. I love that.
- 57:30I mean they went and put Frozen really became a big hit. It you
- 57:37have, butthead you are just a butthead I'm gonna get you back. That's
- 57:46Frozen just ripped off this movie. Let it go. Come on. But
- 57:52think about it. Like his his entire character, his entire premise is about
- 58:00getting these artifacts right. Like, it goes against everything that he is and
- 58:05for that moment to hit, it hits so hard for him to realize that
- 58:09there are more important things in life and more important thing Like it's not just
- 58:14this movie. It's like his entire all the movies that he's done, you
- 58:16know. It's it's a very uh poignant thing that is said at that moment,
- 58:22which I think I think I think was like the whole point because it
- 58:25initially thought this was the last movie, you know, like this, this
- 58:30was it. So they were trying that was the payoff you know or whatever.
- 58:36Absolutely that relationship to because he always his dad shows history over him and
- 58:43he's like, yeah, don't worry about that. We got it. We're
- 58:45good. Yes, I love that. It's a great one. I mean,
- 58:49and you can even say inga sorry Indiana, that is go dingis there?
- 58:58You go love it a little bit a little bit, rob you got
- 59:01a couple? Yeah, just uh Nazis. I hate these guys. Yeah,
- 59:10glorious. Oh dude, I mean, it's my favorite Tarantino movie.
- 59:15It is great. It is great. I liked apparently his name was Fedora,
- 59:20but he's like, you lost today, kid, But that doesn't mean
- 59:22you have to like it. That's pretty cool. That was fun. You
- 59:27already said it earlier, but the note ticket cracked me up, Like that's
- 59:30good, and then everybody pulling their tickets out just like that's a that's a
- 59:38runner up because of the fact that Kevin Smith used that in Dog, you
- 59:45know, like I love that he did that, so so fun. How
- 59:51did you know she was a Nazi? How did you know she was a
- 59:52Nazi? She talks sleep? Do you imagine that? Like that's just I
- 1:00:05can imagine being in that position. I don't want to think about that even
- 1:00:09for a second. What about you? What's happen? What quotes do you
- 1:00:17have? Uh? I suddenly remembered my Charlemagne, let my army speed,
- 1:00:25the rocks and trees and the birds in the sky. I love that one.
- 1:00:30I thought that was really fair. After he does the birds, the
- 1:00:32birds fun it's fun, especially because he's been such a bumbling idiot kind of
- 1:00:37for the rest of it, like smart, but you know, not helping
- 1:00:42them get out of stuff. I thought that was fun. I mean,
- 1:00:46I don't know what I've said more from this movie than he chose poorly and
- 1:00:54then and then followed up with you have chosen wisely. Both of those I
- 1:01:00say all the time, and I love them so much. We named the
- 1:01:06dog Indiana. It's always a fun one absolutely. Speaking of the hard cut
- 1:01:14into Marcus on the Street, does anyone here speak English or even ancient Greek?
- 1:01:19Oh no, no, no, thank you, sir. Fish make
- 1:01:21love in it. He just throws that line away. It's really funny.
- 1:01:27I love that a lot, and I did not catch that's so funny.
- 1:01:30They're trying to kill us and he's like, I know, damn, it's
- 1:01:35a new experience for me. What happens to me all the time. Just
- 1:01:38love their little repart in the back and Junior and Senior there super cy they
- 1:01:45have they have a great chemistry, so so good. What was my other
- 1:01:52one? Oh? I just love when he's like, oh rats, But
- 1:02:00it's when he sees all their ads. I think that's fun, just silly.
- 1:02:04That is silly. Oh yes, and are you crazy? Don't go
- 1:02:08between them when they're on the boat, the boat chass between them? Go
- 1:02:15between them? Are you crazy? Like that? Miscommunication? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:02:19yeah, you told me to go between them? Super fun. I
- 1:02:22like that. Uh you guys got any more? I like when she is
- 1:02:30uh, they're both tied up and she's like, I'll never forget how wonderful
- 1:02:35it was. It's why I thank you. It was rather wonderful. And
- 1:02:37then they like make up for a second. She's like, that's how Austrians
- 1:02:42say goodbye, and then they had not He's like, this is I'll be
- 1:02:46goodbye in Germany, doctor Jones. Yeah, he's like, I like the
- 1:02:52Austrian way better. That's great that. It was a funny bit. Now
- 1:03:00that was all I had written down, though, I mean, there's so
- 1:03:02many. There's so many just one liners in this movie is a thing,
- 1:03:07you know, like, yeah, there's and they're pretty quick. Actually,
- 1:03:12yeah, I had the I just thought this line was super badass. But
- 1:03:17when they're in there, just in the temple, and he's trying to convince
- 1:03:22him to go find the grail, and he's like, I'm not going to
- 1:03:23do that. He's like, shooting me won't get you anywhere. And he's
- 1:03:27like, you know what, doctor John's, you're absolutely right, and then
- 1:03:29he shoots his dad. Yeah, it's just a cool line. That's just
- 1:03:32not nice. Though it's not nice, it's not kind, but it is
- 1:03:36cool. He was planning to do that, like even before he even said
- 1:03:39that totally. Yeah, yeah, for sure, and it was pretty logical.
- 1:03:45I mean, that would give him the motivation. You know, you
- 1:03:47can only save your dad, no, go get me that yeah yeah,
- 1:03:53yeah, And look I've gone and caught a sniffle when for it that.
- 1:04:02You know, it's so weird because I was when I was watching that scene,
- 1:04:06I was trying to think, Okay, what's my favorite I was trying
- 1:04:09to find what's my favorite qute in this movie? Yeah, and the one
- 1:04:13that I can never forget, see I forgot the whole like Indiana let it
- 1:04:16Go one and the freaking the stupid line that I remember is that if you
- 1:04:20are Scottish Lord, then I Mickey Mouse. It's like that I can't forget.
- 1:04:30Ever. That's good. Maybe we'll name this episode that I like.
- 1:04:39That was all the ones I wrote down, though, nice, Well,
- 1:04:42why don't we move on to mugs, Boom moments, Wall strong Men,
- 1:04:47also cry strong Man, also the crying Game. I picked three indeed,
- 1:04:58and I when you he says, I thought I'd lost you boy. Yeah,
- 1:05:03man, that was yeah, that was great. That was pretty good.
- 1:05:08Absolutely when he uses the grail to save his dad or the cup,
- 1:05:15yeah, yeah, of course, yep. And then I said maybe when
- 1:05:20he tells Indiana to let it go, but it's pretty shortly thereafter. Yeah,
- 1:05:28I actually kind of included both of those. That's kind of where I
- 1:05:30was at. I see what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 1:05:33so we can be one off on our total. Here. I have another.
- 1:05:36I think you cried over the night the last night. Yeah. I
- 1:05:44like that guy a lot. He did a good time when you first met
- 1:05:46him him and then when he's like waving but well it's all right there.
- 1:05:53Yeah, they're really close. So I wrote I wrote down three boom,
- 1:06:01You've said them all, but my third one was when they shoot his dad.
- 1:06:06Sure, it's the same thing. So, yeah, you nail it.
- 1:06:11You got the number right. You basically just cried as soon as the
- 1:06:14end of the Temple. That's really one big the same thing during that Hidden
- 1:06:20Temple show after school, it was the same thing once they that show was
- 1:06:24so much fun. I loved that. That was a fun show. They
- 1:06:28brought it back. I think they did. You're right for like a minute.
- 1:06:30I don't they watch them though, which is bad at me. Yeah,
- 1:06:34nothing, remember the Hidden Temple show. Sorry, he said nothing,
- 1:06:40and then I explained it. My bad. I'll have nothing. Let's go
- 1:06:45on to movie. Yeah. Yeah, just went right into it. Uh
- 1:06:51movie trivia. There was a lot for this. I just picked a few,
- 1:06:55maybe too many. We'll see uh. As with other Indiana Jones films,
- 1:07:00Harrison Ford did many of his own stunts, and according to stuntman Vic
- 1:07:03Armstrong, he had to pull forward to the side one day and ask him
- 1:07:08to let him do some work because Ford was doing so much of it himself.
- 1:07:13Armstrong later said if he had wasn't such a great actor, he'd been
- 1:07:15a really great stunt man. I think it's pretty funny. That's good for
- 1:07:19him. Go on, I'm sorry he was saying that about Harrison Ford,
- 1:07:27did you. Yeah, he was saying that he did a lot of his
- 1:07:30own stunts and he wanted he wanted to work, but Harrison Ford wouldn't let
- 1:07:35him because he was just kept doing him and punching scenes punching. I mean,
- 1:07:44yeah, man, I just I can't get my I can't wrap my
- 1:07:50head around that, honestly, Like I think of like great stuntman and like
- 1:07:54I'm just like what Harrison fordway, I am not. Let's see if you
- 1:08:01can wrap your head around this one. Most of the uniforms worn by the
- 1:08:05Nazis during the book burning scene are actually authentic World War Two uniforms, not
- 1:08:11replicas. Found a cache of them in Germany and the costume designer Anthony Powell
- 1:08:18like obtained them and they used them for this movie. So isn't that crazy?
- 1:08:21Yeah? I know it's not any different obviously, but it feels different.
- 1:08:27Yeah, I don't know, it's weird. That took it to a
- 1:08:30whole new level there. Man. That apparently at one point when they did
- 1:08:36like the Nazi salute, Spielberg had the people with their hand behind their back,
- 1:08:43crossing their fingers and stuff, which I thought was kind of a funny
- 1:08:45little piece of trivia because he was like, obviously not into that and all
- 1:08:49that so interesting. Harrison Ford nominated River Phoenix to play him as a teenager,
- 1:08:57having worked with him before. His favorite of his many movies, something
- 1:09:01called The Mosquito Coast, which I've never seen from nineteen eighty seven. I
- 1:09:05didn't see that one either. And then apparently River Phoenix explained that he didn't
- 1:09:11really base his portrayal on Indiana Jones the character, but Harrison Ford, so
- 1:09:15he observed Ford out of character before acting as part I thought that was kind
- 1:09:19of cool. And you said, this Rob the in that flashback scene,
- 1:09:27he cuts his chin with the whip. Uh, this is to mimic Harrison
- 1:09:31Ford had cut his chin in a car accident in southern California when he was
- 1:09:34about twenty. So this cut was then explained by that, you know,
- 1:09:40by the whip, which was kind of a fun little thing. They had
- 1:09:43to breathe the two thousand rats that were used. We've read that that were
- 1:09:46used for the rats, and that was because ordinary rats would have been riddled
- 1:09:51with disease. Apparently, so she makes they had to cultivate their own two
- 1:09:57thousand rats, which is kind of. That's just crazy. That's crazy,
- 1:10:00and they killed a bunch of them and the fire. The foresight to have
- 1:10:04that is pretty nice. You know. I wonder how long it takes,
- 1:10:09Like, what's the gestation period for a rat? Probably not long. I
- 1:10:12suppose they say they breed fast. So I don't know. Steven Spielberg said
- 1:10:16at one point this is his favorite of the Jones film franchise. I don't
- 1:10:23know when that information happened, so I don't know if he still feels that
- 1:10:26wear or not. Uh. Sean, Sean Connery and Harrison Ford wore no
- 1:10:30trousers during the shooting of the entire Zeppelin sequence because it was filmed in a
- 1:10:35very hot studio and they didn't want to sweat too much. That's great fun.
- 1:10:43Yeah, they're not wearing pantsless, babe, you know they're pantsiless.
- 1:10:45I'm into it. Uh So. Steven Spielberg was committed to making a third
- 1:10:50movie for this uh and this movie was the third, and he had to
- 1:10:56drop out of directing Big and rain Man. Holy yeah, those are some
- 1:11:01bangers. Two pretty big movies there. Yeah, I mean this one had
- 1:11:05to have made more than both of those though. Oh yeah, for sure.
- 1:11:10I had to have I mean one awards though, right for sure?
- 1:11:15Well, and Big was up Tom Hanks was up for an Oscar for Big
- 1:11:17Yeah, yeah, really yep, but yeah, box office, this has
- 1:11:21to be way bigger. I don't know, I can confirm. No,
- 1:11:26perhaps, let's see, sir Tom Stoppard was paid one hundred and twenty grand
- 1:11:32to rewrite dialogue, specifically the lines for Henry and Henry Indiana. Well,
- 1:11:38that's a weird way of saying that the Henry Henry Indiana exchange. After this
- 1:11:45movie's released, after the success of the movie, he was given another million
- 1:11:51dollars as a bonus. And then in a book, uh, Spielberg says,
- 1:11:58basically he was uncredited that Tom Stoppard, but he pretty much is responsible
- 1:12:03for every line of dialogue. So I thought that was pretty wild for him.
- 1:12:13Watching the watching Indiana wrestle with the Colonel Vogel, the soldier at the
- 1:12:17periscope tells his teammates in German the Americans they fight like girls, which I
- 1:12:23thought was funny. Okay, like that, um, and then oh this
- 1:12:29was cool that oh and we never even said this. That the death sequence
- 1:12:33when the guy drinks from the wrong crazared me as a kid, the hair
- 1:12:42grows, and yeah, I feel like it took way too long for them.
- 1:12:46I mean that was one of the like why are you taking so long
- 1:12:51to like get away from that? Like why did? Yeah I understand why
- 1:12:57from a movie standpoint, because like they wanted to like draw that out,
- 1:13:00Yeah, lengthen that out, that whole thing to make you feel that way.
- 1:13:05But in reality, I'd be like, what am I saying? In
- 1:13:08reality, I'm just saying, Like, honestly, anyone, like if we
- 1:13:13were actually there, we would be like immediately, yeah, get that thing
- 1:13:16off of her, you know, like that's crazy, right, But it's
- 1:13:20it's pretty crazy because that's the first in film, the all digital composite shot
- 1:13:26that it was ever done. So they in previous movies they did CGI elements
- 1:13:31over top of film, but in this one, Industrial Light and Magic scanned
- 1:13:36several filmed makeup transformations of Donovan's demise and then morphed them together digitally, so
- 1:13:44it was the first time it was ever done, which I think is pretty
- 1:13:45Sally, that's very cool. I mean, honestly, like I think about
- 1:13:48nineteen eighty nine, I'm like, that was probably really really impressive. Oh
- 1:13:51yeah, it's the hell out of me. When I was a kid,
- 1:13:56I did not like that part at all. Oh yeah, let's see during
- 1:14:00the Castle Brunewald rescue, Henry Jones, Senior Express's dismay at Indiana inadvertently bringing
- 1:14:08the diary into enemy hands, saying that he should have mailed it to the
- 1:14:12Marx brothers. This is a little easter egg because Harpo Marx revealed in his
- 1:14:16autobiography that he once actually had to smuggle a journal of important documents out of
- 1:14:21Russia to keep them from falling into enemy hands. Crazy. Yeah, that's
- 1:14:26that. That was neat, little tongue like that. Yeah, and that
- 1:14:30was all I had, Buddy, I had an interesting one. When Donovan's
- 1:14:34wife comes into the study to tell him he's neglecting his guests, the Imperial
- 1:14:40March DARTHA Vayner's theme from Star Wars can be heard playing on the piano in
- 1:14:45the background. So cool. Julian Glover, Yeah, one seck. Julian
- 1:14:49Glover who plays Donovan. He played General Veers, the leader of the ground
- 1:14:54attack forces on Hath in Star Wars episode five The Empire Strikes Back. So
- 1:14:59cool. I mean I did not know that before this, but that was
- 1:15:06big Star Wars guy. But I just thought that was really cool. Two
- 1:15:12things. One you just blew my mind and two I want to see his
- 1:15:17chance knows this. Oh there you go, Trivia. I bet he does.
- 1:15:21There's no way he doesn't. Indiana Jones and Star Wars so much.
- 1:15:28So, well, no, man, how would we do it in a
- 1:15:30way that he doesn't know we're asking him? You know what I mean?
- 1:15:34Like he wouldn't be like well like but like the actors that were in Star
- 1:15:42Wars and Indiana Jones. No, yeah, maybe maybee. Oh, let's
- 1:15:48talk about it, because like this is this is that's crazy information. That's
- 1:15:55I like that. I like that very deep pull. Yeah, I thought
- 1:15:58that was cool. A couple other things. Sean Connery was alway Steven Spielberg's
- 1:16:02first choice to play his father. Oh yeah. If that had failed,
- 1:16:08Gregory Peck, Christopher Plumber and John Pertwee were backup choices for the role and
- 1:16:15to play the night they wanted Sir Lawrence Olivier, who you know was considered
- 1:16:20to be the greatest British actor in the twentieth century. He was too ill
- 1:16:25to commit to the role and he actually died shortly after the movie's release.
- 1:16:30But that was all I had for other actors that were up for roles.
- 1:16:34Yeah, well interesting, that's it. Did you have any other trivia bits,
- 1:16:40Adam, No, I just want to go into like theory. Oh
- 1:16:45yeah, you can hear this with your theory thing now if you want.
- 1:16:48Well, okay, well it's more like just specululative speculative. Okay. So
- 1:16:57it goes into like you drink the cup, all right, So you drink
- 1:17:00the water from the cup, and that kept the night alive, kept the
- 1:17:03night alive for seven hundred years. Indiana Jones drinks the water from the cup
- 1:17:15like a full glass. Yep. And I haven't seen the other three movies.
- 1:17:21Do they reference it? Did they explain it? Well, there's only
- 1:17:26two more movies, and okay, I don't think so. But I mean
- 1:17:30they say that it doesn't work past the seal, right, so you'd have
- 1:17:33to stay in. No, it says that can't bring the cup out.
- 1:17:39Seeing the cup out, I think. I don't think one, like one
- 1:17:43drink of it gives you that long of life. I think it just it
- 1:17:46sustains you if you continue to drink from the cup. But who also takes
- 1:17:54one sip and literally just pours the water on his belly and Bam is cured
- 1:18:00of all ailments, and I do you know he's literally dying. It brought
- 1:18:06up during the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Is that the next one the
- 1:18:14fridge scene. I don't know if you've seen this reference at him, because
- 1:18:17I know he said you hadn't seen it. He survives a nuclear blast in
- 1:18:24an old leadline fridge and people said that was ridiculous, and then they were
- 1:18:28like, well, he did drink from the Holy Grail. Maybe he got
- 1:18:30some extra vitality from that. So it's been brought up with that, but
- 1:18:34that again was like internet stuff, not during the plot of the movie.
- 1:18:39Oh so No, I don't think it's ever referenced in the movie again.
- 1:18:45But I would say it might make him live longer, but I think you
- 1:18:49have to keep drinking it to live. Where I'm going with this is like
- 1:18:55like you've seen The Green Mile, we know how right? You know?
- 1:18:58Top makes his characters just like it's like got long life now and fatality,
- 1:19:03and I'm just like it does me when I was watching it, like,
- 1:19:06holy he just drank from this cup that's supposed to do that and based on
- 1:19:13what it did to his father. I it just like it opens up the
- 1:19:17book as far as like, well, get right that, yeah, a
- 1:19:20lot of about Indiana Jones like an excreience, And I was curious because I'm
- 1:19:27like, I'm almost almost like disappointed that they wouldn't have used that to explain
- 1:19:33why he's still kicking an ass. Yeah. You know, although the movies
- 1:19:38don't really reference each other, they don't at all, but that that's like
- 1:19:43a missed opportunity in my opinion, Like that would be think of how cool
- 1:19:45that would be to know that negative information, you know, especially if it
- 1:19:51was subtle in then in the next two movies, Like that would have been
- 1:19:55cool. Yeah, for sure, I like that idea. Anyway, that
- 1:19:59was my That was my like whoa wait a minute, yeah right right,
- 1:20:02Yeah, that's fun. Nice judgment day. Will there be a sequel?
- 1:20:08Yes, we know that Crystal Skull and Dialo Destiny. Yes, So Crystal
- 1:20:13Skull sucked. I mean I wasn't into it. I don't think it was
- 1:20:16as bad as people said. It's not great. It's by far my least
- 1:20:20favorite it was. I think it was another like Expectations. Yes, real
- 1:20:27high went to the theater, and I was like, oh, oh really,
- 1:20:30and there's some really dumb stuff in it for sure, for sure,
- 1:20:33and I was excited, Like Shilah buff was just kind of coming up,
- 1:20:40Kate b Chett was in it. I was like, this is going to
- 1:20:43be awesome. It was not that, say Blanchette or Blanchett. Kate Blanchette
- 1:20:48is what I said. But maybe it's Kate Blanchett. I don't think it's
- 1:20:54Blanchett anyway. But I I like dial Destiny. I liked it quite a
- 1:21:00bit. I had a good time. Can you skip to Dialo Desney because
- 1:21:05you said they were in when I rewatched all of them, I skipped Crystal
- 1:21:10Skull, so so yes, definitely. All right, Well, do you
- 1:21:16guys want to play a game? Yeah? I did another. Starting five,
- 1:21:21I'm gonna name my five favorite actress from a particular film. When you
- 1:21:26know the film you ring in with your name. If you get it wrong,
- 1:21:28there's no negative points. You won't be able to guess again for that
- 1:21:30movie. If their actors' names remaining, you can guess those for a point
- 1:21:34each. The other person can steal if you get any of those names wrong.
- 1:21:39All of these films have something in common. When you know the theme,
- 1:21:41you can ring it at any time for a point. They might have
- 1:21:45something to do with Indiana Jones here love it and this is a tougher theme.
- 1:21:53I'm gonna throw that out. I usually kind of lob up the theme.
- 1:21:57So maybe maybe don't focus on the theme. Just focus on the names
- 1:22:00and pick the movie and if you get the theme, it's great. Okay.
- 1:22:05So before we start this is we're thinking of actors. I'm gonna be
- 1:22:10telling you actors' names, and then you want to know, you're gonna tell
- 1:22:14me the movie that I'm referencing from these actors. If there are remaining actors'
- 1:22:18names, you can name them for more points. Okay. So I'm thinking
- 1:22:21of the movie that they were in, exactly, all right. So with
- 1:22:27that information, let's go to number one. The first name is F.
- 1:22:32Murray Abraham. F Murray Abraham. What Murray Abraham ever do to you?
