- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Galatians 2 The other apostles accepted Paul After 14 years I went back to Jerusalem with Barnabas and took Titus with me.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: I went there because God showed me that I should go.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I explained to them the message that I tell the non-Jewish people.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I also met alone with those who were considered to be the leaders.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I wanted to be sure that we were in agreement so that my past work and the work I do now would not be wasted.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Titus, who is with me, is a Greek, but these leaders still did not force him to be circumcised.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We needed to talk about these problems because some who pretended to be our brothers had come into our group secretly.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: They came in like spies to find out about the freedom we have in Christ Jesus.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: They wanted to make us slaves, but we did not agree with anything those false brothers wanted.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: We wanted the truth of the good news to continue for you.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Those men who were considered to be important did not change the good news message I tell people.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter to me if they were important or not.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: To God everyone is the same.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: But these leaders saw that God had given me a special work, the same as Peter.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: God gave Peter the work of telling the good news to the Jews, but God gave me the work of telling the good news to the non Jewish people.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: God gave Peter the power to work as an apostle for the Jewish people.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: God gave me the power to work as an apostle too, but for those who are not Jews.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: James, Peter, and John seemed to be the leaders, and they saw that God had given me this special gift of ministry, so they accepted Barnabas and me.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: They said to us, We agree that you should go to those who are not Jews, and we will go to the Jews.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: They asked us to do only one thing to remember to help those who are poor, and this was something that I really wanted to do.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Paul shows that Peter was wrong.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: When Peter came to Antioch, he did something that was not right.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I stood against him because he was wrong.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: This is what happened.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: When Peter first came to Antioch, he ate and associated with the non-Jewish people, but when some Jewish men came from James, Peter separated himself from the non-Jews.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: He stopped eating with them because he was afraid of the Jews who believe that all non-Jewish people must be circumcised.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So Peter was a hypocrite.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: The other Jewish believers joined with him, so they were hypocrites too.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Even Barnabas was influenced by what these Jewish believers did.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: They were not following the truth of the good news.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: When I saw this, I spoke to Peter in front of everyone.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: I said, Peter, you are a Jew, but you don't live like one.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: You live like someone who is not a Jew.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: So why are you trying to force those who are not Jewish to live like Jews?
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: We are Jews by birth.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: We were not born sinners, as we call those who are Jews.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: But we know that no one is made right with God by following the law.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: It is trusting in Jesus Christ that makes a person right with God.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: So we've put our faith in Christ Jesus because we wanted to be made right with God.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And we are right with him because we trusted in Christ, not because we followed the law.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: I can say this because no one can be made right with God by following the law.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: We Jews came to Christ to be made right with God, so it is clear that we were sinners too.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Does this mean that Christ makes us sinners?
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Of course not, but I would be wrong to begin teaching again those things I gave up.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: It was the law itself that caused me to end my life under the law.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: I died to the law so that I could live for God.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I've been nailed to the cross with Christ, so I'm not the one living now.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: It is Christ living in me.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: I still live in my body, but I live by faith in the Son of God.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: He is the one who loved me and gave himself to save me.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: I am not the one destroying the meaning of God's grace.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: If following the law is how people are made right with God, then Christ did not have to die.
