- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and with me is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hei hei! Ready for another episode. I've been practicing the verb 'å klare' from last time. Jeg klarte det! Lucas: You did! That's great. Today we have another very useful verb: 'å forstå' — to understand. Luna: Å forstå. That's one I definitely need. I often get lost in conversations. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with the base form: 'å forstå'. Say it with me: å forstå. Luna: Å forstå. Hmm, that's not too hard. Lucas: And the present tense: 'jeg forstår' — I understand. Jeg forstår. Luna: Jeg forstår. Lucas: Perfect. Now if you want to ask someone: 'forstår du?' — do you understand? Forstår du? Luna: Forstår du? Simple enough. And what about 'I don't understand'? Lucas: Great question. That's 'jeg forstår ikke'. Jeg forstår ikke. Luna: Jeg forstår ikke. That will come in handy. Like when someone speaks too fast. Lucas: Right. And when you finally get it, you can say: 'nå forstår jeg' — now I understand. Nå forstår jeg. Luna: Nå forstår jeg. Oh, that's satisfying. Lucas: Let's do a quick practice. Repeat after me: å forstå. Luna: Å forstå. Lucas: Jeg forstår. Luna: Jeg forstår. Lucas: Forstår du? Luna: Forstår du? Lucas: Jeg forstår ikke. Luna: Jeg forstår ikke. Lucas: Nå forstår jeg. Luna: Nå forstår jeg. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's put them in a short scene. Imagine you're at a cafe and the waiter says something complicated. Luna: Okay. So I might say: 'Unnskyld, jeg forstår ikke. Kan du si det på nytt?' Sorry, I don't understand. Can you say it again? Lucas: Perfect. And then when they repeat slowly, you can say: 'Ah, nå forstår jeg! Takk.' Luna: Ah, nå forstår jeg! Takk. I love that feeling. Lucas: Me too. And speaking of understanding, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Norwegian, you can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. I'll say a sentence in Norwegian, and you tell me if you understand. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: Jeg snakker norsk. Luna: Jeg forstår! I understand. Lucas: Great. How about: Dette er en kaffebar. Luna: Forstår du? Wait, that's the question. Yes, I understand: this is a coffee bar. Lucas: Nå forstår du! You got it. Let's reverse roles. You ask me something and I'll answer. Luna: Okay. Forstår du norsk? Lucas: Ja, jeg forstår norsk. You see how natural it becomes. Luna: Yeah. And if I ever get stuck, I can say 'jeg forstår ikke' and ask for help. Lucas: Exactly. And remember, 'å forstå' is a regular verb in present tense: forstår. No tricky changes. Luna: That's reassuring. So let's review all five phrases one more time. Lucas: Good idea. First: å forstå. Luna: Å forstå. Lucas: Jeg forstår. Luna: Jeg forstår. Lucas: Forstår du? Luna: Forstår du? Lucas: Jeg forstår ikke. Luna: Jeg forstår ikke. Lucas: Nå forstår jeg. Luna: Nå forstår jeg. Perfect. I think I've got it. Lucas: You have. Practice these whenever you listen to Norwegian or talk to a native speaker. It's a lifesaver. Luna: I will. Thanks for helping me understand, Lucas. Lucas: Det var så lite. And to our listeners: keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Luna: Ha det bra!
