- Alex: Here we go, Jason. Just a little OG vibe here, just you and me today. Marcus got called away on taxi duty, picking up the wife. Plane got delayed. I saw I didn't read all of y'all's texts, but I was laughing because I saw It's like delays are Jason: Hmm. Alex: only when it's personal, not business. I was I was good I Jason: Right. Alex: was getting a little bit of a kick out of that. Jason: I mean that it that tends to happen. It's like, yeah, when you're needing for work or something you kind of don't want to go, it's always on time. But then yeah, we got a great vacation and it's like, seriously. actually I think our flight Alex: Yeah. Jason: out to Italy, we were good, but on the way back we got delayed. Alex: And that's what I was gonna say. It's always going there that gets delayed, not the way back home. Cause it's like you're on a time span to get there and you have to check into the hotel or you're losing time if you get there late and then all of a sudden Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: you're delayed. But then of course coming home, everything's on time. You don't get more time there, you get less time. Jason: Right. Alex: well good. We are we're gonna keep it golf today. got Solheim Cup news. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: not really much new on the president's cup. you got some big news on Live, we got some TGL and WTGL news, got news in the Woods family, as it seems. we also have news in the Chin family. And I'm mad at Jason for burying this on me for a month. So Jason: It wasn't mine to share. Alex: Well, it it's on Instagram now, so it's official. So it's Jason: Okay, now it's official. Okay. Alex: official. So now we can we can say something. I d we're sitting here preparing for this podcast and I'm scrolling through Instagram. And I I admittedly don't get on my personal Instagram much. I'm usually on the business one and that's not following all the golf stuff. So I get on my personal to get some golf news. Hey, are we missing anything? Is there anything we want to talk about? And what comes across my desk. my screen is Jason's youngest got engaged. Now I guess not youngest. You have you have Miles now. Youngest daughter. so you are entering Jason: Let's yeah. Yeah. Youngest daughter, middle middle child now, I guess. Alex: you're entering a new phase of parenting. Jason: Yeah, it's like we had I had two, then we had Miles made three, and now I guess we gotta accept the boyfriend or fiance now, so that's gonna make technically four kids. Three and a half. Alex: Yeah. It's yeah, I think they count as a half, right? Like you don't really have you don't really have control over them, but you can influence them. So I think they're a half. Jason: Yeah, I mean, do you feel like that with your in laws? You're like kinda like the half extra kid. Alex: Yeah, like I feel they have a sense of obligation towards me, but like they can't really control what I do. So I think that's I think that's fair. Jason: Yeah. It's like, we'll see you around the holidays. Yeah. Alex: Yeah, exactly. well, congratulations to dear daughter to the Chin family. Peyton has been a part of of our life. She watched our kids. she was babysitter when My own sister in laws couldn't do it. so I've always seen Peyton just like I do Ray and Lex. So I'm super happy for her. never met the guy, so obviously I have zero to say on if he if it's if we're happy. But I I am Jason: You're not missing much. Alex: happy for I am happy for her and I hope and wish them the best. Jason: No, he's it's all good. he's a really sweet guy. if we were to identify with an animal, we refer him as a golden retriever. Just Alex: going retriever boyfriend. I like it. Jason: yep, just happy, just gonna take care of her, and just like just kinda loved, just kind of there. like one of the indicators, of course, now, especially with Miles and us, is you know, you always want them to treat your daughter or even if it's the flip, do you want the the female fiance to treat your son with respect and all the proper care and everything? And but it's funny, like now we have Miles is he's kind of like our gauge. It's how Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: because babies are intolerance, they're really good about just they all they know is feelings and vibes. And he picks up on them and Loves having around, loves playing with them. So we know it was a really good fit. it's gonna be tough though. They're both military. So the next couple of years there's gonna be a a test of how they're gonna manage their time apart because they will have to be. And yeah. Alex: Yeah, I know I I know nothing I know nothing about the military world as it comes to people that are married within the ranks. Like obviously Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: if you have a spouse, they just travel with you. but how does that work when you're both in the military? Like do they try to get you on assignment on the same base so y'all can stay together? Jason: So this is where it gets tricky and and it it's I don't want to say they're trying to beat the system, but they're trying to navigate it to where it does helpfully help out into their advantage Alex: Yeah. Jason: where and then Dawn, of course, neighbor military. yeah, so they will always try to station you guys together, just d depending on the situation. What I don't know is Like he wants to be a SEAL. And if he goes to be a SEAL, there's only so many spots, which it's not a bad thing. It's right. You're Alex: Yeah, you're in Vault Beach or Coronado. Like those are your two options. Jason: you're there. And I think with that advantage, she because if you're in the program, you're there long term, not this every three year rotation. Alex: Yeah. Jason: and she's only planning on putting in five, whatever she whatever the minimum she owes for their scholarship. And then that way she'll have a little bit more flexibility. But She graduates before him. So that's where it's gonna be a little weird. Alex: So I was gonna say he w he won't even be out of he even if he gets into seal and buds and everything, he won't barely be out of his training by the time she's done. I mean, it takes like four or five years to get through that. Jason: Yeah, so that I'm not sure, but he'll be obviously military, navy. I don't know what his pathway would be if he doesn't get into the SEAL program, he'll do something. but I don't Alex: What's his what was his MOS outside the seal, do you know? Jason: I don't rem I don't remember. I know it came up, but I just don't remember off the topic. Alex: Yeah, I'd be interested to see what see what could I that's that's what he falls back to. If he doesn't qualify for SEALs, he'll just go back to whatever his MOS was. Which Jason: Yeah. So Alex: which if that's a seaman, he could be on a on a ship for six months at a time. Jason: It could be it could be. yeah, I don't know because I know Peyton's looking into aviation as her avenue for the first few years. I don't know if aviation's in hit the cards for him. I don't I've never heard him talk about it. So that's why I'm not sure. I I I just kind of picture it kind of like medical school. You go to medical school, you get a broad horizon of everything, Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: and then you get employed or wherever you're gonna go, then you go into your specific practice. Of whatever it is that you want to do. And then if you want to change Alex: Yeah. Yeah. Jason: it, you can change it. so I think they're trying to avoid being stationed at completely opposite places and married. I don't know again how the military works, but I always assume you could put it for a transfer. It's like, hey, is there a spot available Alex: Yeah. Jason: transfer? But I also know from my in-laws that they just don't willy-nilly transfer. It's almost like, well, we need Person X to actually leave for you to actually get a spot in this place. So yeah, Alex: Yeah, there's always so many positions available. Yeah. Jason: I'd be curious to see how it all kind of falls into play this next year or two. Alex: Yeah, well, I wish them the best. I I hope it works out. well s speaking of Jason: Yeah. And on the other side I was I was to say really quick on the other side of it, Shelby wants to hack Maddie's hinge account and help her out. Alex: You know, I get it. I get Casey has a really good track record of helping friends out with that, so Jason: So I was like, we'll see. I think Maddie we both think Maddie's being a little picky, so too narrow in her search. So we'll see how it goes. Alex: Picky's never a bad thing. She's she's young. Jason: Well, it's not picky, like of course you gotta be selective, but that's Alex: Yeah. Jason: what I'm saying. You're he's she's young, but it's like you are young. Use this opportunity to put broaden your feelers. Then once you have a better v understanding of the way I think I look at it is like figure out more who you are, and you might figure out more who you are and what you're have a better acceptance to instead of like Alex: Yeah. Jason: going for a particular type and look and whatever it is that, you know, drives people to be attracted to each other. Alex: Yeah, absolutely. It's she's she's had that time that she gets to explore and enjoy life a little bit and she's in a great place down San Diego, to be able to do that. So Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: SoCal is it's a good place for a for a single person just figuring things out. Jason: Yeah. It is. Alex: Great weather, you've hobbies you can get into. you know, go live your life. I you know, I told Casey, I I obviously wouldn't change a single thing we did, because our stories led us to to meet each other. But right when I was graduating in construction, the UAE was building at the time and they were offering offering ridiculous salaries and it's all tax free when you go over there. and I'm sure you pay taxes on the way back. I don't really know how all that How I don't know how all that works. But it was like you could go work there for three, four years. And obviously, like the culture isn't amazingly great towards Westerners over there. So I mean, it's it's not like you're gonna live the best life in the world, like you live on a compound type thing. but you I mean, my salary now, I could have made two times that in one year, coming straight out of school, going and working over there. So I was like, go do that for five years, create your nest egg. Travel the world a little bit because you get to I think how those UAE places work, they only give you eleven month visa. And a lot of times either the company or the government will actually, like the the UAE governments will pay you to leave for a month, go do your visa licensing stuff at an embassy, and then come back. And you have your visa. So you get paid to essentially travel, you know, your whatever. Get paid you get a month paid vacation to go do whatever you want. and so it's like, if I could do it again, I'd probably want to do something like that. But at the same time, like obviously my story led me where I am and I have my kids and Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: it wouldn't have ended that way, obviously, if I'd gone. So I say all Jason: For sure. Alex: that to say she's she's young, she'll figure it all out. She she's gets to live her life and enjoy it. And Jason: Yeah. Alex: there's No rush to finding someone and getting married. You know, each everyone's different, so Jason: No. No. And what's fun is like she does listen to us pretty regularly, so it'll be f curious to see what she says about this. Alex: well she'll say that I'm right and she g she's just gonna go. Jason: Hey, we could broaden her horizon to be like hey, tell everybody on your profile that your dad and friend are podcasters. Alex: yeah, they're they're gonna love us. they're gonna know that we're Jason: Yeah. Alex: just gonna talk crap about them as soon as we meet them. They'll listen to the episode. It's Jason: What's Alex: just gonna drive up our listeners. We're fine. Jason: That's what I'm saying. We gotta we're we're we gotta Europe and Asian, you know, market. Now we gotta get it to the US market. Alex: Yeah, exactly. well, what's not gonna get us into the US market is us dogging on the fact that we cannot win a US team sport right now when it comes to golf. Walker Cup, obviously, devastating loss, very close. We all know how the Ryder Cup went. and now Solheim, we're we're for three in the past 13 months and we have one more chance to to retain some semblance of a team golf trophy. And I'm a little worried. the the Solheim Cup was it's it's tough. It it's tough. There's a lot of great golfers that are not American in the women's sports or in the women's golf world, but we also have some really great golfers, and I just don't understand how. We we seem to struggle Jason: Yeah. Alex: at the men and women's every time we go into these things. And we have such good golfers. Jason: That's that's it. I mean, you think about right there, it's individually if you just look at the obviously how we score, how we get there, how these guys qualify, our the American players are always dominating when it comes to the tournaments throughout the year compared to the European team European team players. But when it gets to these things, we just can't. Yeah. So interesting enough that again Team USA is actually heavily favored in the President's Cup at negative 400 odds or dash 400 odds. I never understood how the all odd settings go, but they say we're heavily favored. Which I get that. Alex: Yeah, but we always are. I mean, we went into the Ryder Cup with the same thing and they were like, the average world golfer rankings of the Americans is this and like we're always a heavily favor heavily favored team and then we just don't win and granted the Walker Cup and the Solheim were not like blowouts like the Ryder Cup was and before the individuals. I mean we made it look a little bit more respectable because the individual Sundays went our way. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: But I mean, fifteen to thirteen for the Solheim Cup and thirteen and a half to twelve and a half for the Walker Cup. So it's like we're not that far off. Like it's that's that's a difference of two matches swinging either way, which we know in golf can easily happen. But it just Jason: Yes. Alex: like it just sucks that we have are so dominant yet we cannot seem to get the team sport thing down. Jason: All right, so this is where it gets interesting, why I think we're more favored. Overall, the United States is thirteen one in one all time as presidents cups. Alex: Yeah, and I get that. but I don't think that we've had the level Jason: How? Like how? Alex: of I don't think we've had the level of competition from the international ranks. 'Cause obviously you gotta take out all the Europeans Jason: Yeah. Alex: in the president's cup. So this is really South America and Asia playing against us. Jason: True. Alex: And all and Australia. but a lot of the Aussies honestly have gone and played for live, it feels like. So you really don't have any like big, Jason: Mm. Alex: big name Aussies playing, I think there's one or two Aussies in this one. like Minwu Minwoo and stuff like that, but Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: but we have a lot more Koreans. You got obviously Hideki and Mit Hitsatsun. I think I said that name right. so I mean you're starting to get some more Asian players that are bigger. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: So I mean I I just think the world golf outside of US and Europe are starting to get bigger and better. and it's kind of like the women's soccer, right? US dominated Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: for so long because we were like the sport that gave opportunities to women earlier to play and progress in that sport. But now that there's academy teams that are supporting women's, you know. You have English women's Premier League soccer now. Obviously, with all the Spanish teams having women's teams, America's really not the dominance anymore because the opportunities for these Jason: Mm mm. Alex: other countries has grown. And I think it's the same for golf, where the opportunities to play golf in some of these other countries has just gotten so big, I think especially since COVID, that they're breeding great golfers. And the Asian culture is just amazing at like perfecting a sport. perfecting anything they do. I mean, their their culture's just so like dominant driven where they want to be the best at it. And it's it's an amazing culture to have. And they just I mean, you see it in Hideki, you see it in you know, Tom Kim. Granted he's not playing Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: in this president's cup, but Siwoo, you know, like he has continued to get better and better and he's just there's a lot of good players on that team. Jason: Yeah, it'll be curious to see how we pull this out. But like you said, I think that's it right there. Like the competition not globally is not as strong as a straight European team. But if we don't pull together a decent or win out of this president's cup, then I think it says it right there, just American cultural team aspect is lost. It is just they may say they want to play for a team, but They just truly don't have that chemistry. Like Alex: Yeah, I think that's what it's gonna boil down to is we don't we don't breed the chemistry to support each other. It's bred as a com constant competition. so it'll be it'll be interesting. I do like you know, we didn't note that we were gonna talk about this, but I do like that they're changing the Ryder Cup qualification standards. It's down to a year instead of a two-year cycle. Which is really nice because Jason: I like that. Alex: we talked about that two podcasts ago of like you got people that slide in because they won a major the year prior, but that's that could be like eighteen months before. And a lot changes Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: in golf in eighteen months. Jason: Yeah, I think it's good because now you're getting the players who are hot that current year or Alex: Yeah. Jason: right right before that current year or whatever. Yeah, 'cause it'd be twenty seven. So yeah, it'll be set for Alex: Well, and I'm not I I certainly don't want to take away from the people that win. Like I think I can't remember how JJ won the same year of I think I'm trying to think of we had this conversation last Ryder Cup and been a year now, so I can't really remember. But there was one or two guys that slid in Jason: Golly, that's right. Alex: because they had a great prior year, which is great. I mean, that's a qualification standard and you qualified for it and that's amazing. And there's I mean, we're talking about differences that are the size of a gnat's ass. between some of these guys. So like just because we're saying you played great two years ago doesn't mean you're good. Like you're still an amazing player. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: But should you be on the team? I don't know. And that's where it it gets tough. So I'm glad they went to the the year qualification so that they can, you know, maybe be a little more like direct in getting the people that have Jason: Well Alex: a hot hand. Jason: it's kinda like They let JT in. And he didn't have a lot Alex: Uh-huh. Jason: of hot year prior to or year and a half prior to Colin. Like Alex: Yeah. Jason: those guys, it's just kind of like, yeah, not sure. Cause they had the last team, Scotty, JJ, Xander, and then of course, like you said, the rollover, Russell Henley, English, qualified. Alex: Mm. Yeah, English was one of those guys that qualified on the rollover. Jason: And then obviously Deshambeau got in because he won the US Open that prior year or that prior US Open. Alex: Yeah. Jason: Ben Griffin. Alex: He had a decent year, the Ryder Cup year, 'cause I know he was one of the questionables. but yeah, he obviously isn't in the President's Cup. So it'll it's interesting. the only real news from the President's Cup though is Snedeker is pushing to start with four ball instead of foursums, which is just a difference. Jason: Interesting. Alex: I wonder I don't really know the the reasoning. clearly he probably thinks we're better at four ball than foursums. So Jason: yeah, I mean, 'cause it still gives the individual component to each player versus having to work as a team. 'Cause you're still there, but you're Alex: Yeah, maybe he thinks Jason: still playing your own ball, still scoring your own ball. Alex: Well, there's obviously a there's obviously a mentality, right? Like you go into foursums and Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: we're losing. That's gonna change how you go into four ball and might change how you set up the teams or might change how aggressive people are being 'cause we're trying to get a point. So maybe the thought is we're gonna start with four ball. We feel more confident, we think we can win that session so that we're not down going into the second session. But if you remember, I think it was last president's cup, we wiped them. eight and the first day then they came Jason: my gosh, yeah. Alex: back and wiped us eight no the next day. So like it it can Jason: Yeah, it was Alex: it it could change in a heartbeat. Jason: So do does it have to be both captains have to agree or is it because it's home US is course? Alex: I think it I think it's home. We get course set up, we can choose the rotation of how it goes. Like you you still have to play the sessions, but how you choose to play them doesn't really matter, I guess. Jason: Well, hasn't worked before, so might as well try it. Alex: Like I think you have to do one of each both days and you have to keep it the same. Jason: Okay, it's just which one you do decide to go first. Yeah. Alex: Correct. I think. I don't I haven't read into that much that much. Jason: I don't know although the d yeah. They're changing so many rules now. Alex: god, yeah. So it'll be interesting. what's even more interesting, live filing chapter eleven bankruptcy. which is funny because you hear I think anyone hears bankruptcy and they're like, they failed. But really, it's Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: just their way of clearing the deck so that they can start fresh with new funding. obviously they gotta pay all their secured debts. But what's interesting is Payment to the players is unsecured. So they may or may not get their money. And I think they have to release Jason: Yeah and Alex: how much they owe. And at least what I saw, John Rom was owed somewhere in the seven point five range, was past due. Jason: Yeah, I think so. Alex: That's not even the remaining contract. That's just past due. Jason: That's crazy. He's like playing golf and he's still owed and he's probably sitting there going Alex: Yeah. Jason: like, Hey, where's my money? Alex: Yeah, I think DeShambeau falls in that same bucket. I think he was somewhere in the six million range. So it's like Jason: I think so. Alex: you have these players that haven't been paid. and I don't know how much is left on their contract to pay out as well. So you have that whole component. But either way, it's it's crazy that they did that Jason: I think no Brooks exp Alex: and that it's unsecured. Jason: And Brooks left. He didn't ha they don't owe Brooks anything anymore, I don't think. Alex: Correct. Yeah, they just left. so I think he was paid everything he wanted to get paid. He left, obviously. So I mean, it sucks for these players because like you take a John Roman, you think about the fact that he is out money. Don't know how much, that's not clarified via the contract. But we know for sure he's owed seven point four, seven point five. and then you he's gonna have to write a penalty to go to DP World Tour. Because Brooks did the same thing. So you're gonna sit and write a Jason: I yeah. Alex: five million dollar check or whatever. And I get these guys have ridiculous money. John Rom signed what a three hundred million dollar deal to go over Jason: Something repeated. Alex: there. So I mean, even if he made a hundred million of that, and I don't know the number, but even if he just made a hundred million of that, like writing a five million dollar check obviously doesn't hurt that much. So, yeah, so it's like it's not a huge But I get it, I mean it's a twelve, thirteen million dollar swing. Like I'm owed money and now I gotta write a check. That kinda sucks. Jason: Yeah. so I just yeah, since you know, we don't have our producer Marcus, he's playing Uber tonight. did check. So Rom did pay the DP penalty so he can now participate. He so he did do that. but yeah, it does look like just from everything and rumors, they said he's also left the group chat, all that social media chatter, but it Alex: Yeah. Jason: It it's likely like yeah, he's gonna just exit like he doesn't even care to listen to what Live two point is. Hatton, Alex: Yeah, it's well and I wouldn't either. I mean Jason: probably the same. Alex: No, 'cause I mean Rom went because he was sold the whole we're gonna become one because I mean, two years ago that was the they had talked about merging and obviously that didn't work out. So I mean, if I'm them I come back. Jason: Okay, so now to spark something. So now I'm just curious because who was more interested in merging? Was the PJ wanting to bring Liv in as a merge or was Liv trying to like, hey, let's merge? Alex: I think it's a mixture of both, in my opinion, from everything I've heard and read. I think the PGA knew that they didn't have as deep of pockets as the PIF did, the Saudi Arabian Fund. so I think after they realized that they don't have as deep pockets and that the divide was hurting their ratings, that it made more sense to try to partner with them and instead of fighting them. Cause then that got them to stop doing all of the stealing players and poaching and this and that. Because that's what they to stop the hemorrhage of players leaving. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: And I think so I think they reached out thinking, okay, I think it's in our best interest to create a partnership because we're not going to be able to fight them in court. They have deeper pockets than us. And they're just going to keep stealing our players. I think ultimately that worked out in PGA's fave flav flavor. Favor. I think it worked out because it What it did was it stopped Liv from stealing the big players and it made the other people Rory was ever gonna go, but you think if you're Rory, right? Well, I'm not gonna go over there because we're just gonna merge anyways and we'll play X amount Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: of whatever. So why am I gonna go? So I think it stopped people wanting to go over there, thinking that they can get a payday because they thought they were gonna merge anyways. So I think it indirectly helped the PGA, but I don't think I mean live. I think if they stayed their course and they just kept trying to get the big players, they probably could have made something out of it. They only needed to steal probably four or five more big people to really swing the needle. Jason: Yeah, and unfortunately that even like the lower levels like Fowler, he would have been a nice little draw, but and wouldn't have been as expensive, but he decided to stay. obviously Rory, we knew Tiger wasn't gonna go or support them. Alex: Yeah, I think the problem is you were never gonna get the core Americans because Jason: Mm-mm. Alex: most of their stuff is a lot of travel. It's all over the world. Those guys didn't want like why go do that when you're already, you know, a household name and you're able to play in all the majors and this and that, and by the way, your longest flight is six hours from Florida to Pebble Beach. Like it Jason: Yeah, I think the whole idea, obviously the money, huge. And then offering, you only get to play three rounds. You get to wear shorts. There's music hype. So it was almost like a weekend long weekend getaway for them. But at the same time, they only played ten tournaments a year, but then they like you said, China back to Europe, back to a US site, then back to South America or wherever it may be. And I could see that was getting kind of drawing out and then I guess the whole reg Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: was it deregulation, getting kicked out. And then after those big guys, they started pulling college players and other bunch of no names. So they weren't getting the draw. Alex: Yeah. Jason: but yeah, I looked it up. So you said how they were getting unpaid. So the first quarter of the year, a lot of players just didn't get paid. So as of January twenty sixth, stuff was already starting to hit the fan. Alex: Yeah, that's that's where the crazy part is. so we'll see where they go. We'll see what happens with Live two point but Jason: Greg Norman says it should just die. Alex: Well, that's because he got fired as CEO. So there's no love lost there. Jason: He's like, There's no point. Alex: yeah, so I mean, getting into other league news, obviously TGL, WTGL is getting started up. We have Brooks' new team, Motor City. So he's repping a Detroit team. Jason: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Alex: or at least Detroit investor team. I've never really understood how these people pick. Where they're reping. Cause like I get Keegan Bradley with Jason: Yeah, there's Alex: Boston, like he's from Boston, that makes sense. Jupiter Lynx, Tigers Jason: Yeah. Alex: from Jupiter, that makes sense. But like, yeah, I guess you have Windows, Bay City made sense because it's calling, Jason: Wyndham's California and one of he's got one of the California teams. Yeah. Alex: it's a handful of guys from California. Jason: Yeah. Alex: But then you have a couple of the teams, like I think Atlanta, JT is Atlanta. It's like he's from Alabama. Like that doesn't really like I it's close, but it's not really. Jason: Okay, Shaffley's in New is representing New York and he's was west coast. Like yeah, Alex: He's California kid, isn't he? Yeah. Jason: growing up. Now he lives in Florida, but grow up all West Coast. Alex: Yeah, you got you got Rory that's also on Boston Commons, which I get it. Rory's maybe you just tie green with Ireland, Jason: Or he done have he doesn't have a place. Alex: maybe, even though he's Northern Ireland, which is red and white, not green. So I don't I've never understood it. So, anyways, long wave saying I really don't understand the Jason: Yeah. Alex: whole like why Brooks ended up with Motor City. but he's he's repping a Detroit, Detroit team. I'm interested to see what his team looks like because I don't think they released it unless I'm just really bitching. bad at following news. you're our you're the new producer, so I'll let you look that up. Jason: I just looked up real quick like how do they get to their teams and it's str it's all about strategic building, with the ownerships. Alex: strategic building. Which means there's no real logic. It's just like, you seem like you'd be good here. Jason: No no no. Yeah, there's nothing there. It's motor city. Alex: Yeah. I'm looking it up here. yeah, so I'm excited to see them. Jason: And then they also have women's Alex: Yep. Jason: Right, women playing in the T GL or is it a separate TGL women's league? So it's two sets. Alex: So so he is two things. He is the first Motor City name. So no one else is Jason: Okay. No one's signed yet. Alex: on the roster yet. so we'll have three more people that get assigned to there. I'll be really interested to see who that is. Yeah, so t WTGLs, it's their own teams, if I Jason: Okay. Alex: read correctly. Jason: It's T what is it called? T T W W T Alex: It's WTGL. Yeah, it's just women's Jason: G L. Okay. Alex: women's something. I don't even know what TGL stands for. The golf league? Jason: Tiger Golf League? Alex: I don't know. I should probably know that. so I I'm trying to see here. So I think you have a lot of the same clubs. That's what I'm saying. So you have Atlanta Drive, Boston Common, Los Angeles, Motor City, and New York. So you have the same clubs are fielding both a Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: women's and men's team. Jason: Okay. So you got Lydia so the women's side you got Lydia Co., Corda, Lexi, Charlie Hole, Brooke Henderson. Alex: Well, that's really interesting too. So so they've released all the players on the Motor City women's team, but not the men's. Jason: okay. Alex: 'Cause you have Brooke Henderson, Gino, Lexi, then a Ronnie Yin and an Albain, Val Zwenya, or Valzwelia. so it's that's crazy. I didn't realize that they had they had done that, but Atlanta Drive, you got Charlie Hole playing Min Min Min G Lee, so Minwoo's sister. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: Who else do we have? I should just go to players instead of teams. let's see who else. yeah, Michelle Wee West is playing. She's on the Los Angeles. Jason: Yeah, I heard she's I heard she's coming back to play some. So they said actually Wyndham Clark could be moving to Detroit Motor City as a trade because he's got ties. Alex: Yeah, so now we're now we're trading players. so am I going crazy or so Nelly is not playing in this? That is actually shocking. Jason: I I th I thought she's on there? No, it says already joined. Nellie Corta has already Alex: I don't Jason: joined. Alex: she is not listed in the players Jason: With co. Alex: list on the WTGL website. Jason: Hmm. Alex: Like I'm s I'm looking at all of the players and she is not on Jason: Maybe she's not picked a team yet? Alex: I don't know. Yeah, you got this is my like fourth time scrolling through here and I am not seeing Nelly. So that's interesting. We'll we'll follow up with that one. Jason: Okay, no, it says currently says no, she is not. I just looked up is she playing and it says yeah. Alex: Yeah, interesting. You know what's I I have not followed the news. you know what's really interesting is Jessica Corta ha has never come back. she had her baby and it's like anything like are you gonna decide to come back and play afterwards or not? And I think we can get on a whole spiel here of the unfairness to women in professional sports, because like you have a kid and you may or may not come back. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: Because there's complications or just hormones. you know, I it's so hard to even fathom to having to have a kid and try to come back and play a professional sport the same level you were playing before. So all the credit goes to the women that have done that. but I've I've never followed up on her story and why you haven't seen her back. Yeah, that's very interesting. Jason: All right. Already on it. yeah, so okay, I was trying to think I do remember this vaguely because both of them came out going super strong, but Jessica Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: had a more of a history of injuries, which slowed her down. and then she's she stepped Alex: so maybe she decided after having a kid just not worth it. Jason: away and then she stepped away, healed, and family priorities, life. Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: but It says she's actually did return to competitive golf, but just as a part time deal. Nothing super serious. Alex: Yeah. It it's hard and y you get the whole mom guilt, you get the whole mom guilt thing and it's like I said, I I credit the amazing women that go through that because it's tough. I could never fathom doing it. I mean, that's your body changes so much in a year span and then changes again the following year to get back to normal. so that's a tough one, but so hopefully we'll see. At least Nelly join and maybe even Jessica would make sense to join WTGL because it's all played in one location, a little less travel if she c it's a little more convenient, Jason: A little more convenient. And you only record a Alex: yeah. Jason: whatever your matches every one once a week or ever every couple of weeks. Alex: Yeah, exactly. So maybe maybe it makes sense for her to get back into it. So hopefully. but as far as Tiger news, I'm hoping we'll get to see him in the TGL league. it'd be nice to see him play again. I'm interested to see the PNC. This is the time of year that everyone starts kind of speculating is is he gonna play in his in his tournament in Bermuda, the hero. That's always the question. Is he gonna play in his Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: own sponsored tournament? Is he since it's not sanctioned by anyone, he could easily play if he wanted? Is he gonna play in the PNC? which, you know, now that you got Charlie ripping team Taylor made, you Jason: Yeah. Alex: know, official, 17 years old, I would love to see what that contract looks like. Like that that's a big signing for Taylor made. Jason: did they say it was like th three point five mil? I think it was his deal. Alex: Cheese. Jason: I believe that's what it Alex: Man, these Jason: was. Alex: these deals are crazy. You know, we not to not to get totally off track. But obviously, my wife is a Texas tech grad and they had that that quarterback, Brendan Soresby, that's Jason: I'm sorry. I'm scared. Alex: that that signed. And he's the one that had the gambling addiction and everything. Jason: Uh-huh. Alex: And I've always wondered because I think they signed him on like a five million dollar deal for the year. And I've always wondered, and I would love to talk to someone that is in the know of how these contracts are written, of like, what's guaranteed of that? So he signs a five million dollar deal, and he doesn't play a single Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: down because he had the whole gambling addiction, and then ultimately like it was gonna be a legal battle for him to play because he gambled on games he played in, which we all know is a no no. So does he get that five million dollars? Is there a clause in there that says if you don't Jason: That's a good point. Alex: play, you don't get the money? Is there a clause like or can you not put the contract Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: on any level of production? Cause it's not NIL money, isn't really athletic money. It's so it's it so anyways, that's a long way of questioning like this whole Charlie thing. Like, is it a one-year deal, two-year deal? What is the 3.5 million? Does he have to play in so many junior tournaments? Does he have to qualify for something? Like I would love to see what these contracts require the person to do to get that money. Jason: yeah, I you know, I never knew what NIL stood for, name, image, and likeness. I'm like Okay, so NIL money is not guaranteed. It's just I guess I it could be a player per player or and sport per player deal. They just pay him based on fair market, I guess. I guess that's how it works. I don't yeah. I'd be curious to see how those specific contracts set up. Alex: Yeah, so if you get if you get injured, if you get injured, do you not get some of that money? Do you get all of it? It would be I I Jason: That is crazy. Alex: say it would just be interesting to get my hands on one of those contracts and like read how you make the money, what you make, are there requirements to fulfill? Cause I'm assuming there are. but good for Charlie. You know, signing a three point five million dollar deal is Is good for him. obviously I think we could have expected that, being that Tigers with Taylor Maid. Like, I don't it would have been really weird Jason: Yeah. Alex: if he ended up going with titleists or something. but still Jason: That would be actually really funny. Alex: I it would be. you know, though it's like him going to Florida State instead of Stanford. Like it's him paving his own way. So like I get it. If I'm Charlie, like I don't necessarily want to go with Taylor Maid. Jason: and Tiger would have it that way. Yeah. Tiger's like he's his own person. He will Alex: Yeah. Jason: find his path. I'm not gonna pave it for him. So that no, that's good for him. Alex: Yeah. Jason: so anyways, the most I can come up with is it's just no details of it. Obviously, he's agreed to play at Florida State. Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: 'Cause he's what got one more year in high school? Or is this his year? Yeah. So Alex: Yeah, he's a senior. No, he he is a senior, he's seventeen. Jason: okay. the only thing that they have equipment, they only have really what his equipment is, and obviously it's just like UI ten right now, currently is what they're saying. Alex: Is is he Taylor May top to bottom putter as well? Because Tiger for a long time was Jason: No. Alex: Nike, but like a titless putter or a ping putter. And I still think he is Tyler Jason: yeah. Alex: Safi. I don't think he I don't think he plays a Taylor May putter. Tiger. Jason: no, he he QY ten, which I believe it's probably a a QI four D, probably or it's gonna be pretty soon. a mix bag of C Bs and TWs, of course. the Mill Grind five and then a T PX five ball, but he does use a Scotty putter. The the putter exception. He is permitted to keep his trusty Scotty Cameron. Alex: That that has always just been hilarious to me that players can play top to bottom, but then whatever putter they want. Jason: Although hasn't there been players that have been given full like all exclusive like or exclusive you can only play their stuff? Or have they always had golf has always had the flexibility? Alex: Yeah, I think Scotty is I think he is now on a full bag deal with Taylor Mate Scotty Shuffler. Jason: Who is? Scotty. Okay. Alex: Cause he was rocking Scotty Cameron blade for a little bit when he was not Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: doing great up hutting, and then he switched to the spider and that's when he took off. Rory is on a full bag deal. Excuse me. Yeah, Roy's on a full bag deal, I think. So I mean there's certainly players that are full bag deals, then there's a handful that aren't. I mean, Brooks was the same way. I think Brooks played all Shrix on for a while there, but he still had like a two Nike something, Nike Jason: Yeah, he was yeah. Alex: two iron. Jason: Yeah, it's really well actually be curious if if Scotty and Rory wanted to switch, I think, the putter. I wonder if they would let them. Alex: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what those deals are. It's always intrigued me. you know, what what those deals are. Like, do they have to play the newest equipment? Do they not have to? 'Cause if I'm Jason: Yeah, it's like the whole thing of equipment free agency. Alex: Yeah. I I get it. It's like you want to play what's good for you. Cause if you think about it, I don't know how much these contracts are, but let's say they're a million a year for sake of easy math and a big number. Are you more likely to make that million up by playing good in tournaments with the gear that you actually like or that's fitted for you? Then why would you commit to a brand? Because these these brands aren't paying you. Three, four, five, six, seven million. I don't know. I can't imagine they are. Maybe the top players. But yeah, so I can I'd go be a free agent too, because if I can get a tenth place instead of a fifteenth place, that money adds up over time. Or it it could be the difference of making a cut and not making a cut, and that's I either make money or I don't make money. Like that matters. Jason: Well, then I'm thinking, I mean, all this equipment i I mean, yeah, they have all the regulations on how they're supposed to be built and so they're just finding other ways to modify it. So at some point, like we've kind of talked about this before, you're a professional. So what does it really matter what equipment you're using? Alex: Yeah, in my opinion, the driver is the only one that is truly, truly different. Like, you're gonna have you're you're gonna have irons that flight lower, flight higher, do this, do that. Some are hotter off the face than others. Like I certainly get that, but in the grand scheme of things, if I think if you give Scotty Shuffler a similar caliber iron between Taylor made, titleist, Shrixon, all of the big names, you give them kind of a an iron that matches Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: rough specs, I'd be willing to bet he hits the the difference between those balls are gonna be very minimal in both speed and you know everything, spin rate, trajectory. but you do that same lab test with driver and metals, I think that's where you get the big difference. And that's what's Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: truly different for these guys. So, like if I'm going on tour and people are courting me for a club deal, I'm gonna look at driver. I'm gonna say, okay, I'm gonna go with whoever fits me the best from a metal and top of the bag perspective. And then the iron and wedgers are gonna kind of sort themselves out because in my opinion, they're all pretty much the same. The they make so many variations between all the different grinds and like pretty much any of the big names. you're gonna find something that you can score well with from a wedge and iron perspective. Jason: Well, and it's funny too. It's 'cause it's like you can go from a Scotty wedge to the G wedge Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: or wherever Cobra wedge, Mizuno, but you may like the feel of it more than like your tailor made wedge or vice versa. But then it's like, well, it spins differently. Well, then that's what the ball can come in, maybe change that a little bit and Alex: I exactly. Jason: adjust your parameters. But yeah, it's it'll be curious to see, you know, at some point do they Alex: Y you have Jason: start regulating things more. Alex: Yeah, you have enough levers to pull on the wedges and balls and irons that you can almost fit whatever. It's it truly is the driver. Like if you if you pick a Shrixon, you have really two drivers. Like you don't have many options. It's a Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: ZX seven or a ZX5 or whatever they are now. but when you go to a Taylor made, you might have, you know, the max, the low spin, you got the Jason: I think there's like four models. Alex: Yeah, four different models of the 4D, but then you also have the mini drivers. Well, if I can't hit a driver, I'm gonna go get a mini driver. Like for me, right? My driver might fly 300, 305. My mini driver's gonna fly 280, 285. Like, is that really hurting me? No. So that's another a whole nother option. Well, not everyone has a mini driver in their lineup. So I think that Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: might sway someone one way or the other, which I think most people do have a mini driver. I think Ping might be the only big name that doesn't have a mini driver now. 'Cause Callaway Tidalus, Cobra, Jason: You know your cobra. Alex: and Taylor made all have one. Jason: Yeah. I think yeah, I think Ping does not. I don't know if they actually Alex: So I think things Jason: are exploring the market either. Alex: I would assume they are 'cause everyone else has. but you never know. So I I don't know. it's always interesting how these guys pick their clubs. it's a a long divergence from congratulating Charlie Woods on a tailor made deal. Jason: Yeah. I mean, it comes down to I mean, you've said it and I said it too. It's like s it's part of its looks. Like Alex: Uh-huh. Jason: and then part of it's like for me, it's like I've messed with enough clubs. It's just how the head weight feels. Like just how it just Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: feels holding it also changes everything. like to this day, the most balanced best feeling clubs I've ever had were those old Apex Bs. I still have the heads for them, but you know. So it just comes down to a lot of those different things for I think those players. Like you said, the spins, the grooves, all of that stuff is going to still be virtually regulated. So it has to all fit within a window. And then if you get a hot spot or a weird face, it could just be a manufacturing deal. Like I know Mizuno's thirteen's actually got recalled because I think the seventh through pitch or eight through pitch, the face was cracking. Alex: Mm. It's interesting. Jason: So I was like 'cause they tried to do like like a weird gapping, like here's the face and there was like this air pocket and Alex: Yeah. Jason: so it had a little bit more spring face, but I guess it started collapsing or doing something. Alex: Well, that's how a lot of those, the the P seven nineties, P seven seventies, I don't know if Titalus has a foam injected, but there's a lot of foam injected clubs out there now that I think have had that I've seen that issue and it's across the board. I think it's just the nature of the type of player hitting those balls are typically, you know, not your country club guys where the range balls are soft, they're rock hard, you Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: know, whatever they freaking hit at. Immuni. and I think the combination of that hard ball with the thin face and that speed foam injection, it's just not as structurally sound. I mean, like my Bs are not gonna crack. Like it's solid metal. So I I just think it's the nature of Jason: No. yeah. Alex: what what the club is meant to do. It's meant to be a trampoline and over time that trampoline's gonna fail. Jason: Yeah. And that's kinda like like the strixons for sure. Like even my bets, they're it's all solid metal. Like there's no flex face that's gonna get broken down. So and yeah. Alex: Well, the problem with the flex face is you can't really, and that's why like I switched from the P seven nineties and I actually pe P seven seventies for a little bit. they just you can't take speed off the ball. Like the whole point of those is to be fast and low spin. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: And it got to where like as I got better with the clubs, like I would hit a seven and the seven iron had a yardage Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: and it went that way, whether I saw it off the swing, like it was It's gonna fly roughly this number Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: and whereas like I could hit my six iron now thirty yards different if I wanna hit a rope draw that spins and rolls out, if I wanna hit a high fade. you couldn't do that with those speed foam injected clubs. Like they're just not meant to do Jason: No. Alex: that. Jason: No, exactly. Yeah. And then it comes down to like what are you really chasing here? Like obviously if you want distance, there's equipment that's going to give you distance. There's no question about it. If you want more control and willing to sacrifice some distance, that changes the game. It changes the direction you're going to go. Alex: Yeah, exactly. Well good. well I got nothing else. That was really the the agenda we had. a lot of golf, a lot of golf talk, had a little bit to catch up on. we we are going to be posting our our little golf video here. this was a fun one. I I haven't fact checked it. and I really probably should, but I'm just whatever, someone else can go do that for me. if I am correct, if Jason: Just go with it. Our few listeners will believe it. Alex: I am correct, we are the first group to be able to have a chance to play these teas at this specific course. and this course will be the host of a major within the next year. So I had a lot of fun being able to have that access. obviously, we brought on two other dads, two close friends of mine. actually we were all out together this past weekend for my wife's birthday. so amazing opportunity to go play. cool little format. and it was hot. it was really hot. Jason: God, yes. Alex: Texas summer. Twilight round. I think it was upwards of 105 after when we teed off. so it was very warm. May or may not have had one guy drop out on us for a few holes because he overheated and need a hydration break. so, anyways, great video that will release. You looked at the date. I know you looked at the date. two Fridays. So that is the twenty fifth. So we'll re be releasing that one around Jason: With. Yep. Alex: noon on the twenty fifth. so you get your weekend started right by watching that video. And subsequently we will have the two guys on the podcast joining the three of us. So we'll have a rare five person podcast. we'll talk through the round, get some impressions. it's I know one of them has been dying. A lot of his friends are wanting to see it. So he's been Hounding me almost daily to get the video out. And now I'm I'm Jason: Ha ha ha. Alex: if you haven't noticed, I'm in a sweatshirt upstairs. My upstairs has been crap, whatever, for the past nine weeks on the HVAC. Jason: You're cold. Alex: now I'm in a sweatshirt upstairs, so everything's back to normal. video is almost done. I just got to do a handful more, more things. So I'm able to actually focus and get it done. So that'll be coming out. And we'll kind of be back to normal normal cadence here. So you got anything else for us? Jason: Mm. No, I'd say that's actually impressive if you could if you could fact check that we are the first group to experiment with where we played on that course. Alex: Yeah, it's I I'm pretty positive based on what I've I've been told. I haven't I need to go and look at the YouTube channels to see if anyone's posted anything. I know a lot of people have been out to the course, but I just Jason: I g I guess that would be a good thing. Yeah. Alex: need to go need to go fact check that myself at some point. All right, well, if you got nothing, obviously we missed Marcus, our producer. big thanks to the fact that he is usually the one sitting pulling up stats for us so that Jason and I can just be dummies and spout off random crack that he has to tell Jason: Yeah. Alex: us we're right or wrong with. so you know, big thanks to Marcus. but otherwise, Jason, we'll we'll catch up next week. Jason: Yeah, we'll see you next time. We're the Seinfeld of Podcasts. Show about nothing. All Alex: See ya. Jason: right. See ya.
