Speaker C: Welcome to unsigned 518 Halloween special. I am your host, Andy Scullen. And you know, obviously this is a music podcast cast most of the year, but there's one day out of the year where I switch things over and turn it to the love of Halloween, or my love of Halloween and all things spooky and horror movies and scary stories and, you know, films and makeup effects and basically all of that that I surround myself with throughout the entire year. So this is my favorite episode of the year and I always do try to do something special. Like last year I had Brad Laree, who played Michael Myers in Halloween Resurrection. Frank Polangi interviewed him for the show. We also, me and Nick Kosser of Gozer went over to where they filmed the movie Sleepaway Camp and we recorded a segment, basically standing right dead center in the filming location of that movie, which is just a few minutes away from where I'm sitting right now. And this year year, the kind of special segment that I'm really excited for, I have Christian White and Joe Francasio, hosts and creators of Haddonfield Radio, which is my new favorite podcast. I've been listening since earlier in the summer and just, it is like, it's my favorite podcast. The way they not only deep dive into the movies, but into the culture. You know, it just feels like I'm hanging out with a couple of friends and they do watch along so, you know, they'll talk about the movie. Then they. They started up and then, you know, you can watch the movie while. While they're talking about it. It's fantastic. But anyway, one day I just decided, hey, you know, since I've been listening to these guys every day and I feel like they're my friends, I'm just gonna reach out and be like, hey, would you come on the show? And I reached out and Christian responded basically immediately and agreed to come on the show and we had a great conversation and you're gon. Later on in the show. I also have my good friend Maddie Dwyer of Odd house. They're putting on an event tomorrow, like as. As this episode releases. It's the. It's the Thursday before Halloween weekend. So when I say tomorrow, I'm talking about Friday. And then Halloween obviously is. Is on Saturday, but they're putting on a huge event down there on river street in Troy with tons of vendors and music and just spooky everywhere. And, you know, I talked to him, tell you all about that, and I'm going to start things off. This guy is one of my supervisors at Cannabis Central, where I. I've been working for a little while for those that may or may not know. But he's also very into horror movies. And we. We talk about it all the time, you know, about our. Our love of these movies. And I actually, he is in a new Frank Polanji movie that is going to be coming out probably sometime in the spring. We got. I asked Howard if he would be interested in acting, and he was like, you know, that'd be. That'd be really cool. So we. We shot a scene with him for Lights on, which is an upcoming Frank Polangi film. And you'll be able to check that out this spring. And, you know, before we get rolling, I also want to let you know that next month, mid November, I think it's November 15th, Frank will be down at the Fish Kill Horror Con. I can't remember the. The official name of it, but it's down there in. In Fish Kill. And he's gonna have a table set up, gonna be talking about his films. He's gonna be showing some clips of films. And I'm actually going as well and will be in full costume, the farmhand from our movie Farmhouse, which is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video as we speak. But I will be there dressed up as the slasher from that movie that I. That I play for, like, you know, photo ops and stuff like that. So it's gonna be really cool. So if you have any interest in checking that out, hit me up. I'll give you the details on that. But right now I figure we should probably get it started because you don't want to hear just me. You want to hear my guests. And then get into Halloween season and get you ready for this weekend. So I guess let's get right into it with my good friend Howard Thompson III, actor Howard Thompson III, according to his IMDb page. And we'll. We'll be right back. All right, so we are back, and I am here with one of my. One of my favorite people that I'VE that I've met in the last several years, actually, my, my supervisor at work, Howard Thompson. But before we get started, like, we're gonna talk, we're gonna talk horror movies. And I just, just found out that basically what you consider your favorite horror movie is what I consider my favorite horror movie. So we will we a little bit, but I guess kind of like introduce yourself. Like just, you know, say hi to everybody.
• 6:43
Speaker D: Hello everybody. As he said. Howard Thompson the Third. Specifically, my dad would not like to be confused with me, but it's very easy to not mix us up. I also go by Fat Harold Beats if you ever want to find me on Instagram or anything. I make mostly hip hop production, trap production, but I dibble and dabble everywhere. I audio engineer, I play Kendama and can juggle a little bit and.
• 7:12
Speaker C: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Tell everybody what Kendama is. I had no idea what it was.
• 7:18
Speaker D: How I break it down for everybody is Kendama is basically balling cup with extra steps. So everybody knows what a ball and cup is. Kendama is a Japanese skill toy that just has like three cups and a spike. So you got two cups, big cup, small cup, and then a base cup on the bottom on the handle, and then a spike and a ball with a hole attached to it. So you could do multiple things and then spike it at the end. That's it.
• 7:42
Speaker C: Google it because it's really interesting and small.
• 7:45
Speaker D: Japanese kids are very good at
• 7:47
Speaker C: it. You're very good at it. And like, I had never seen anything, anything like that. And I was like, you and Adam at work? And I was like, what, what, what, what is that? And then you're like, oh, yeah, you know, like, didn't you like go to Japan or something? So
• 8:03
Speaker D: Adam went to Japan. I've gone to Nashville for it. Like, it's, it's. I've actually traveled the most for that than anything. It's just a really great way to meet people. Very much Skateboard kids meets Rubik's Cube and cup stacking kids in the same group.
• 8:19
Speaker C: You know, realistically could also be a weapon.
• 8:22
Speaker D: Yes. It actually is video game. I forgot what the video game name is. One of the characters use a kidnap.
• 8:28
Speaker C: You could fuck somebody up with that.
• 8:29
Speaker D: And One Punch man has a villain that use the Kendama.
• 8:32
Speaker C: Nice. And I had never even heard of it. But yeah, so that's a little, A little bit about, about Howard. But yeah, I say you're one of my, my favorite people because, you know, working at the dispensary has been like a dream come true. And you've been really great to work with, but, like, it, it solidified it the other day when there was a miscommunication that I was, I was asking you for advice on what gummies I should take in order to have, like, good energy to stack wood. And you thought I was asking you to drive over here and help me stack wood. And you said yes. Like, I was like, wait, what are you talking about? Oh, wait,
• 9:09
Speaker D: you need, need wood stack.
• 9:10
Speaker C: Yeah. And you were like, yeah, I'll come over. And I'm like, no, that's not what I'm asking. I'm saying, like, what kind of gummies should I get? Like. But then I was like, well, that, that, that, that does it. That's what. We're
• 9:20
Speaker D: talking minor cannabinoids here. I got you. I got you. Yeah.
• 9:23
Speaker C: And we will talk about minor. Is it, is it cannabinoids or cannabinoids?
• 9:30
Speaker D: You know what I think
• 9:32
  Speaker C: his own. Different
• 9:33
Speaker D: strokes for folks. Yeah. It has to be because all those different beta carryophylline or.
• 9:40
Speaker C: Oh, most of them. I don't even. Exactly.
• 9:44
  Speaker D: Mercine.
• 9:45
  Speaker C: Don't know.
• 9:45
  Speaker D: I don't. I don't even care.
• 9:46
  Speaker C: Yeah,
• 9:47
Speaker D: nobody's gonna call me on it. No, no. Nobody across the counter is going to check me. So I'm good.
• 9:51
Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. Where they confidently. Most of those. I'm like, I don't know how to pronounce that. That's why I'm always like, yeah, I know how to pronounce that.
• 9:59
Speaker D: I did. I did a full semester for biology too.
• 10:02
  Speaker C: Did you really?
• 10:02
Speaker D: So, yeah. Can you believe it just went right out the window?
• 10:05
Speaker C: Weed college. But I want to talk, you know, as we're doing like the Halloween episode, I asked you what your favorite, you know, just simple question. What's your favorite horror movie? And you thought about it and you initially almost like qualified it by saying it's for nostalgic reasons, as if to say, like, it's not a quality base. And then you said Friday the 13th, Part 1, 1980, where there's no Jason Voorhees. And that is without a doubt my. Not only my favorite horror movie, that is my favorite movie of all time. And it's for like the same thing. It's nostalgic reasons. It's not because it is the greatest film of all time.
• 10:53
Speaker D: No, no, far from it.
• 10:57
Speaker C: Yeah. But I had a VHS copy of it when I was a kid. Yep. And I watched the shit out of it. And like, you know, like, I didn't I don't know. It just became my thing. And I became so familiar with every scene and every beat in every location. And I'm still, you know, I watch it with no joke. I watch a movie 10 times a year. Like,
• 11:23
Speaker D: some things just don't get old.
• 11:24
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 11:25
Speaker D: Yeah. And just keep running back.
• 11:27
Speaker C: And like I was saying, I toured the original location. Yeah. And if you want, like, we, like, we should put something together and we should go, oh,
• 11:37
  Speaker D: I'm done.
• 11:38
Speaker C: Because it's. It. It's not, like, cheap, but it's not crazy expensive. I think it was like 180 bucks per person and
• 11:47
Speaker D: in this economy, terrible. But, yeah,
• 11:49
  Speaker C: not
• 11:49
  Speaker D: too
• 11:49
Speaker C: bad. But, like, you go to the camp and it's a working boy Scout camp. You know what I mean? Oh, it's a camp.
• 11:57
  Speaker D: Okay.
• 11:57
Speaker C: Yeah. They change nothing in that movie. And it looks exactly the same to this day. They literally. And that's. Well, they didn't change nothing. There's a few things. Like, they
• 12:07
Speaker D: probably saw, like, some electrical.
• 12:09
Speaker C: No, they. The bathroom scene where she gets it with the ax or whatever, and she's standing at the row of sinks.
• 12:19
  Speaker D: Yes.
• 12:20
Speaker C: Those are not real. I mean, they're real. They're actual sinks, but none of them work. That is just a regular cabin. And they just made it look like it was a bathroom by, like, putting up stalls and using fake to fake, like, sinks and fake toilets and whatever. And then the pantry where crazy Ralph comes out of when he doesn't, you know, his
• 12:43
  Speaker D: girl, you're doomed,
• 12:44
Speaker C: or whatever. That is not actually a pantry. They built a fake wall and, like, created, like. But other than that, everything is, like, the same. The cabin no
• 12:55
Speaker D: longer my favorite movie. That's it. I'm not watching it.
• 12:58
Speaker C: When you do the tour, they let you. They let you go?
• 13:02
  Speaker D: Yeah. Oh,
• 13:03
Speaker C: you. They like, take you around a little bit and show you everything or whatever. They're like, it's a boy Scout camp. You know what I mean? Like, what are you gonna do?
• 13:13
  Speaker D: Nothing special,
• 13:14
Speaker C: you know, like, you know, what are you gonna do? Like this. It's for. Since 1920 something. It's had hundreds of teenage boys here every summer. Like, feel like. You would be
• 13:24
Speaker D: very surprised. Half the places, like your favorite movies, especially horror films have been filmed. Like, what is it? The new conjuring film that they're. Or was it. Yeah, Conjuring.
• 13:36
  Speaker C: Right. Yeah.
• 13:37
  Speaker D: Schenectady.
• 13:38
Speaker C: Well, yeah, it's connected. Android.
• 13:40
  Speaker D: Android. I live.
• 13:41
Speaker C: The sound stage is in Schenectady.
• 13:43
Speaker D: Got you. I live literally down the block from where they film that. So I
• 13:47
  Speaker C: was driving
• 13:47
Speaker D: past that to get to work.
• 13:49
  Speaker C: The stockade?
• 13:50
Speaker D: Yes. Around that area. That's.
• 13:52
  Speaker C: No, that's the
• 13:53
  Speaker D: spooky haunted Schenectady.
• 13:55
Speaker C: No, I think they film, like. Because isn't the stockade a studio? Like, isn't there a sound stage?
• 14:01
  Speaker D: So where
• 14:03
  Speaker C: they
• 14:03
Speaker D: were filming it is, like. I don't know if you know where Union College is.
• 14:07
  Speaker C: I do.
• 14:08
Speaker D: There's this real weird, creepy older building kind of like on a corner where you would think it's part of the college because they have all their weird little buildings strewn about. But it is, I guess, not associated. And I kept seeing crew signs everywhere, and I'm like, oh, this is probably. You know, all the kids are moving in.
• 14:26
  Speaker C: Right, right.
• 14:27
Speaker D: And then someone's like, no, they're filming a movie in there.
• 14:29
Speaker C: Because I know they did a bunch of stuff on a sound stage.
• 14:32
Speaker D: Okay. Yeah, well, that would make sense, but I'm
• 14:34
Speaker C: sure, like, the end. But I don't know to the extent I saw, like. And I know the sound series was called Stockade something. It was a stockade film.
• 14:43
Speaker D: Because that would be a really weird coincidence if it wasn't in the stockade, but called Stockade.
• 14:47
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 14:48
  Speaker D: Yes.
• 14:48
Speaker C: And it's just, you know, I mean, basically, it's just a big, wide open room. And, like, the production company, you know, the conjuring people, brought in their own and, like. But it's been used
• 15:01
  Speaker D: for,
• 15:01
Speaker C: like, soundstage stuff before and. Yeah. Well, I think it's probably
• 15:06
  Speaker D: affordability. Affordability, yeah.
• 15:08
  Speaker C: You know, like.
• 15:09
  Speaker D: Yeah,
• 15:10
Speaker C: you can come here and.
• 15:12
  Speaker D: Plenty. Spooky.
• 15:13
Speaker C: Yeah, spooky. The community is kind of welcoming me,
• 15:16
  Speaker D: that's for sure.
• 15:17
Speaker C: Have you ever heard of Sleepaway Camp?
• 15:20
  Speaker D: Yes.
• 15:21
Speaker C: So you know where that
• 15:22
Speaker D: iconic last scene. Yeah. Yep.
• 15:24
Speaker C: Do you know where that was filmed?
• 15:26
  Speaker D: No.
• 15:26
Speaker C: About 10 minutes from here.
• 15:28
Speaker D: You know, I. I feel like I should have known that
• 15:30
Speaker C: I could drive you right to the camp. Probably an eight, eight or nine minute from here.
• 15:36
Speaker D: I would have never guessed that.
• 15:37
Speaker C: Yeah. It's on Summit Lake in Argyle. And a guy that I know, like, it's basically a friend of a friend. I don't really. You know, I wouldn't say that. Like, I, like, super know him or whatever, but he owns it. He owns the. The property that you. It used to be a camp. Yeah. Like, when Sleepaway Camp was filmed, it was an actual cam.
• 16:00
  Speaker D: Yeah.
• 16:00
Speaker C: But it hasn't been a camp in, you know, a couple decades or whatever. And none of those buildings still exist, but, like, the tennis courts are still There and like the. You know, the Waterfront or whatever.
• 16:12
  Speaker D: Yeah.
• 16:13
Speaker C: But like, a friend of a friend owns it. And we went up probably four years ago, five years ago, it was. Well, it was during COVID so whenever that was. But he put up an outdoor screen outside and we watch Sleepaway Camp on the location where it was filmed. I
• 16:34
Speaker D: feel like he should literally charge people to do that.
• 16:37
  Speaker C: He's done, I believe, and I don't know.
• 16:39
Speaker D: People would eat that up. The cult following for horror films is serious, you know, like, that's some. And
• 16:45
Speaker C: I don't know, like, if it's because I know it's. Someone did that as like a ticketed thing. Like. Because I saw like an ad for it and it was like, come watch it on. And so I don't know if, like, he rented it out to them or whatever, but. And then like two years ago, or maybe it was last year, I went up and for the On Time five one eight Halloween special, me and my buddy Nick from a doom metal band called Gozer went up and recorded a segment on location from, like, the beach where sleepaway camp happened, which is literally like, within. You know, I don't know exactly where it is, but it's like. Like within a couple yards of where that famous final thing.
• 17:28
Speaker D: Like, if you know, you know. Yeah, but someone would literally have to tell you if you did know, then I'm kind of worried about how many times you watch the film.
• 17:34
  Speaker C: Right.
• 17:34
  Speaker D: Yeah, for sure.
• 17:35
Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. Because you really can't tell. It's like a dark background. But that whole thing was filmed on location, so, like, it wasn't, you know. Yeah, but it's. It's just right over the. Right over the river, just a couple minutes from here.
• 17:49
Speaker D: I love that. Yeah. I've seen all these older films, what I would consider older films. My dad has this. Had this weird obsession with taping movies for a while back when VHS were a thing. And we have. Everyone knows my dad for having walls of VHS tapes hand taped, two movies per VHS written on it. And I would just go down there when I was bored, grab a movie and watch it. It. So every Christmas my brother and I. I'd have the week off. He'd have the week off. We'd go through Friday the 13th and watch it during Christmas. So I holds a really, like, special place in my heart. But during Christmas time, not Halloween,
• 18:34
Speaker C: but, you know, Christmas is supposed to, like, in. Right. In the Christmas Carols, there's the. You know, there'll be tales of the glory and scary Ghost story. Like, you used to tell stories. Ghost stories on Christmas. Hell, yeah. It makes sense. Friday 13th on Christmas. I feel
• 18:49
Speaker D: like that back when I was a kid was just perfect.
• 18:52
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 18:53
Speaker D: Like, I shouldn't be scared during this time. It's supposed to be, like, the most joyful time of the year, but I'm here, Bricks, and I gotta wake up in three hours to open up gifts, you know? It's fantastic.
• 19:04
Speaker C: What do you think of the. The Crystal Lake series that's coming out this month?
• 19:10
Speaker D: I didn't even know about it.
• 19:12
  Speaker C: Are you serious?
• 19:12
Speaker D: What's gonna be on a shutter or.
• 19:14
  Speaker C: No, it's peacock, I believe.
• 19:18
Speaker D: Okay. I do have
• 19:19
Speaker C: peacock. It's Linda Cardellini.
• 19:23
  Speaker D: Okay.
• 19:24
Speaker C: Who will be playing Pamela Voorhees. It's a.
• 19:28
Speaker D: Okay. Yes, I did see something about
• 19:31
  Speaker C: prequel.
• 19:32
  Speaker D: It's about. Yes.
• 19:34
Speaker C: It takes place, like, you know, 20 years before Friday 13th. Yeah. Like, and I don't
• 19:40
  Speaker D: know if
• 19:40
Speaker C: they're shifting, like, if it will actually take place in the 50s or, you know, like, they might do some timeline,
• 19:49
  Speaker D: like, jumping around.
• 19:51
Speaker C: It should be. Not if they were staying canonically. Like, the first Deaths happened in 1957. And that's, like, Claudette and whatever. The opening scene. Yep. Which, when you go to that tour of the location, like, Friday 13th, part one, like, you can literally walk up those same stairs that the POV camera was from to the place where they were making out. And, like. And it's just a maintenance shed. They did nothing. They did no set dressing. They were like. We did nothing. Just like. Yeah, let's film here.
• 20:28
  Speaker D: The shed's perfect.
• 20:29
Speaker C: Yeah. And it looks the exact same, like, wild. Yeah,
• 20:35
  Speaker D: that's super cool.
• 20:36
Speaker C: Oh, and I also have. Over on the shelf behind me, and I. I'll show you. I have a little jar or a little. Yeah, a little vial. Little jar. Glass jar. And it says, like, angry mother distilling or something.
• 20:50
  Speaker D: Yeah,
• 20:50
Speaker C: but it's. When I was on the tour, you got the opportunity, you bought the empty bottle, and you could fill it with lake water from Camp Crystal Lake.
• 21:02
  Speaker D: That's sick.
• 21:03
Speaker C: So I have a thing of water that I took from the exact spot where Mrs. Voorhees got her fucking head lopped off in Friday 13th, part one. Like, stood right on that spot, took a couple steps forward, got water.
• 21:17
Speaker D: It'd be even more impressive if you had the actual refrigerator that the head's found in. And you kept it in that refrigerator.
• 21:23
  Speaker C: Right.
• 21:23
Speaker D: But we can get there. We got time.
• 21:24
Speaker C: I've seen with my own eyes both the head from part one. And the head from the 2009 remake.
• 21:34
  Speaker D: That's awesome.
• 21:35
Speaker C: At the History of Horror Museum in Portland, Oregon. Or not Portland, Oregon. Seattle. Okay. Seattle.
• 21:44
Speaker D: I get them mixed up, too.
• 21:45
Speaker C: Yeah. But, yeah, they had, like, this screen used head of Mrs. Voorhees from part. Part one.
• 21:56
Speaker D: How's it holding up?
• 21:57
  Speaker C: Not great.
• 21:58
Speaker D: Okay. Usually that. Yeah, the practical effects don't really.
• 22:02
Speaker C: It didn't even. I mean, it looked like a couple of melted crayons. You know what I mean? It was just like, not. Not
• 22:10
Speaker D: every material. It is absolutely toxic.
• 22:13
Speaker C: Yeah, totally. So Friday 3rd, you know, and if that's your favorite, what would. If. What would be your second? What would be your second? Are you. Because, like me, I'm basically a 1, 2, 3, 4, interchangeable. Okay, 1 is always my favorite. But 2, 3, and 4, interchangeable, to me, they all are just tied for a second.
• 22:36
Speaker D: I love that for you. Okay, I got you. So if it. If we're gonna switch it up, that was for nostalgia reasons. I'm gonna give this one different reasons, but still kind of nostalgic. I was talking to you before about the VHS series. I think the first and second film are my favorite. Mostly the second. I think that was the gem of. I mean, there's like 13 of them at this point. They release, like, one every year. Is it. You know, so.
• 23:06
  Speaker C: Yeah,
• 23:07
Speaker D: that one is just with the cult scene, and I forgot what other ones are in. It's the cult one that really sticks out to me, where the guys go to, like, figure out what's going on with this cult, and it ends up being like, they're Satan worshippers, lady. Gives birth to it. Spoilers. Gives birth to the freaking crazy devil and all that.
• 23:25
Speaker C: And Friday the 13th.
• 23:26
Speaker D: No, this is VHS.
• 23:27
Speaker C: Oh, when you said VHS, is that you're talking about your dad's VHS?
• 23:34
Speaker D: No, no, no, the series.
• 23:36
Speaker C: All right, all right. It's called
• 23:37
  Speaker D: vhs.
• 23:38
Speaker C: Yeah. No, I'm with you now.
• 23:41
Speaker D: So I go. I was familiar with it. It was just one of those random things I found on Netflix. Like, senior year of high school, I found the first one. I was like, all right, this is cool. It's different found footage type thing. Like, what do you call it when they put a bunch of movies in one, but they're not related to each other. Anthology. Yeah, yeah, anthology. And I was like, all right, that's cool. That's cool. I went to college the next year, and we're all, you know, just fucked up during Halloween time. And we put on vhs, too, and we watched it and then that scene I was talking about with the freaking demon or whatever comes on and we're like, this is the best movie ever. This is scary as shit. This is crazy. Like, none of us have been scared by a movie in a while and it was just one of those things that made us feel real tense throughout the whole thing. So ever since then, I've been hooked on the series and they've been some serious misses, but there are some hits.
• 24:34
Speaker C: But you know, for me, like, it's almost like with a. Like a comedy and a horror movie, it's like if they hit, hit like a couple of good beats, then I'll forgive. That's
• 24:47
  Speaker D: all I need.
• 24:47
  Speaker C: Fucking anything. Yeah,
• 24:48
Speaker D: some of the misses are super shit, but like, the ones that are good, I can go back and watch over and over again. Like, no,
• 24:54
Speaker C: I mean, like, even within the same movie, you know. Oh,
• 24:56
Speaker D: yeah, yeah. Okay. You're like,
• 24:58
Speaker C: oh, yeah, this movie pretty much sucks, but there's like three good scares. Yeah. I'm like, well, I'll watch it
• 25:03
  Speaker D: over solid, you
• 25:04
Speaker C: know, okay. You know, I just need it, you know, a comedy needs to make me laugh. Just
• 25:10
  Speaker D: gotta scratch that.
• 25:10
Speaker C: Movie needs to make me go, you know, they're both very visceral, you know, forms of entertainment. I like you half the. The reactive, you know what I mean? You don't
• 25:22
  Speaker D: watch a
• 25:23
Speaker C: draw, you know, you're not watching like a heavy drama going, ah, you know, I don't know, maybe you are.
• 25:30
Speaker D: No, it's gonna mess someone's mom up. They can't just do that. You got to know what you're going in for. Kind of like. You ever seen Jennifer's Body?
• 25:38
  Speaker C: Yes.
• 25:39
Speaker D: So I went into that thinking that was just a straight up horror film. And then someone had to explain to me that it was like, campy kind of comedy and it made it way better on the re watch. Because when I watched it initially as a horror film, I was like, this movie sucks.
• 25:55
Speaker C: What do you think about Texas Chainsaw? Like, one in the contrast of one and two? Like, have you seen both of them?
• 26:03
  Speaker D: Yes.
• 26:04
  Speaker C: Like, not
• 26:05
Speaker D: in, like not in a while, but yes, I have. Wasn't there like a big thing why they're so different?
• 26:14
Speaker C: Because Toby Hooper was basically like thumbing his nose at critics.
• 26:19
  Speaker D: Yeah.
• 26:19
Speaker C: And just decided to like, make it like a goofball comedy and like. Yeah. Really ham it up hard and like,
• 26:28
Speaker D: I'm not. I'm never mad at a super cheesy horror film. I think that little bit of comedy sprinkled in with the Scares makes it even scarier because it makes it more real.
• 26:40
  Speaker C: It's disarming.
• 26:41
Speaker D: Yes. You start to relate, and then all of a sudden your laugh, the character that made you laugh is dead in the most gruesome way. And it's like, oh, fuck,
• 26:49
  Speaker C: yeah, that's
• 26:50
Speaker D: my buddy. We just became friends,
• 26:54
Speaker C: and now he's dead. That's why my wife hates. Because, like, Stephen King's my favorite author, and she won't read Stephen King because she. She's like, Basically, he spends 30 pages getting you to really get to know and really love this character. And then, you know, and she's like. And he does that with every single fucking character, you know? And I'm like, yeah, I know.
• 27:19
  Speaker D: It's the best
• 27:20
Speaker C: part. It's good for usually one, you know, usually one makes it to the end of the book, sometimes none. But, yeah, he's not like. Not a lot of. Not a lot of happy endings in horror, you know? No,
• 27:33
Speaker D: no. It takes the fun out of it.
• 27:34
Speaker C: It does take the fun out of it. All right, well, cool. Well, before. Before we go. So Friday 13th, your favorite horror movie. You said VHS is your second horror series.
• 27:48
  Speaker D: Yes.
• 27:49
Speaker C: Just give me. What. What's your third take? Take a second.
• 27:56
Speaker D: Try to think of, like, some great ones I've watched. And
• 27:58
Speaker C: I guess it doesn't have to be a series. It could be a standalone.
• 28:02
Speaker D: Yeah, no, for sure. I guess I tend to like something that I can come back to and watch again as a series, which is always my favorite. I'm thinking back. All right. Child's Play three, the third one, probably everyone's least favorite.
• 28:20
Speaker C: I. I mean, no, I like. I like them. I think Bride of Chucky is my least favorite.
• 28:25
Speaker D: Understandable. Yeah. Seed of Chucky. Once they hit Bride of Chucky, me and Bride of Chucky have a good relationship. Me and Seed of Chucky, not so much. But the third one, I think it's because around that, when I watched it, I was, like, the same age as that kid.
• 28:41
  Speaker C: All right?
• 28:42
Speaker D: So it made it way scarier. And he was black, which kind of, like, made it a little more relatable for me. And I was like, I'm not used to seeing a black child protagonist in, like, a scary movie other than I think. What? Candy? Candy.
• 28:57
Speaker C: Well, there was Reggie in Friday 13th Part 5, Reggie the Reckless. There was Demon in Friday the 13th, Part 5. They were both good guys. Who else there was? Well, no, they were the gang. They were not good guys. Let me see. There was. Yeah, you're right. It's Not a
• 29:22
Speaker D: lot. Often. Especially not like
• 29:23
  Speaker C: I thought I was on a child
• 29:25
  Speaker D: protagonist.
• 29:25
  Speaker C: They
• 29:26
Speaker D: already did it with Child's Play 1.
• 29:27
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 29:29
Speaker D: Was there a kid in Child's play too?
• 29:30
Speaker C: Yeah, it was the same kid. And it
• 29:32
Speaker D: was the same kid.
• 29:32
Speaker C: Okay. I was like. What was his name was Andy.
• 29:34
  Speaker D: That's right.
• 29:34
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 29:35
Speaker D: And I love that they brought him back for the series later on. I don't know if you've ever seen the series on Shutter. I think you'd have a good time with that. I think it started getting a little around, like, the end of second season, but I enjoyed what I watched of it, for sure. They play with the universe a lot. Yeah. That's really fun.
• 29:51
Speaker C: I like Campy shit. Yeah,
• 29:53
Speaker D: exactly. I like a good mix, I think. Have you ever seen Dale and Tucker versus Evil?
• 30:01
Speaker C: Fuck yeah, I have. Okay.
• 30:02
Speaker D: I'm still upset there hasn't been, like, some type of sequel or something, because I think that's my favorite take on a horror film of just like. Like they're not in any way trying to be the bad guys.
• 30:12
Speaker C: Yeah. I just love the, like, it's been a doozy of a day.
• 30:20
Speaker D: It's like all the people just keep killing themselves and all.
• 30:24
  Speaker C: Chippers.
• 30:24
Speaker D: Yes. Dude. Oh, man. I gotta go back and watch that one. It's been a while.
• 30:29
Speaker C: All right, cool. Well, Howard, thank you so much. I will see you at war.
• 30:35
  Speaker D: Sounds
• 30:35
  Speaker C: good. I
• 30:36
Speaker D: think we got a day or two.
• 30:37
Speaker C: Yeah, I think. Well, by the time this comes out, we probably will have worked together like, 20 days, you know. Yeah, totally. But thank you for doing this, talking about your favorite scary movies and. Happy Halloween.
• 30:50
  Speaker D: Happy Halloween, everybody.
• 30:55
Speaker C: All right, so that was Howard Thompson iii. Such a. Such a great dude. Anybody who goes into cannabis central certainly knows that guy. And. And you'll be seeing more of him because I'm sure he's. He's caught the acting bug and is. And is going to be wanting to do more stuff. But anyway, let's move it right along. This is my conversation with another good friend of mine, Matty Dwyer, who I actually met a couple years ago doing a Halloween episode. And that is how we met in person and we became friends and, you know, great, great person. And the. The store that him and his husband Scotty have put together, Odd House right there on river street, is amazing. It's only been around for a couple months and it's already left like, an indelible mark. And has done wonderful things with, like, helping the community and just. Just bringing people together. But one of my favorite, favorite couples in the world, Maddie and Scotty. And we'll be right back with my conversation with Maddie Dwyer of Odd House. All right, so here with Matty Dwyer. And you know what? I was just thinking, Maddie, we met on a Halloween episode of Unsigned518. I think it was, what, two years ago maybe?
• 32:16
  Speaker E: Yeah.
• 32:17
Speaker C: I want to say this
• 32:18
Speaker E: is our third. Is this our third Halloween episode?
• 32:20
Speaker C: Yeah, I think it is third. But that's when we met in person, and we went down and recorded it in my car in. In Troy. And then we became friends, and then your husband and my wife became really fast friends, and then we just, you know, become friends, and it's been awesome. So I want to talk about the event that you have coming up at the end of the month for Troy Night Out, But I also want to, like, I guess, catch people up to speed with Odd House, because, you know, you've opened the store right there on river street in Troy. It's going not only well, but now you're. You're, like, kind of expanding and, you know, putting on the haunts and. So tell me. I guess start off with the store a little bit. Tell everybody what? What?
• 33:09
Speaker E: Oh, my goodness gracious. Yeah, it's been a whirlwind of a year. Absolutely whirlwind of a year. None of this was ever was planned. It was never part of our. Part of where we were going and where we were heading. We thought we were going to have 20, 26 to kind of catch up with each other and catch up with family and, you know, do some things. And this kind of just fell in our laps. Unfortunately, we have the ability to manifest a little too easily, and we started daydreaming. We started daydreaming about what 2027 could look like. And the universe was like, you know what? We're not waiting to 2027. Here's a text message. So we got the keys in May, opened up in June, and it's just been pedal to the metal since we started doing what I'm calling alternative acoustic music series every Troy Night Out. And then, so we've had Summer Legs play. We had. Oh, my God. Who else did we have play Horse grenades.
• 34:10
  Speaker C: All right.
• 34:11
Speaker E: We've had God's not playing a Horse. Buying a horse today. We have Hot Half Cousin next month for November. So we're super excited. That's been really, really exciting. We're just really just trying to get as many cool things going on as possible. And then the bid came to us. We did the haunting. We did the. The Trinidad out Halloween event last year. It didn't have a name. It was kind of all thrown together. It was, like, done in a month. And then this time, I had a few months. I had three months to do it. So we got a name attached. We have an event. We're building an idea, and it was just really, really exciting. It went from what I thought was going to be a block to two whole blocks from Cafe all of Lower river street, from. So from Cafe Euphoria all the way to the light on Congress street. And we're going to have, like, I think we're at like, 55 vendors. We have Architrave playing. We have Hex Albany doing an industrial goth dance party. We have Typhoid Mary, Rosetta Stone, and Psoriasis. It's going to be a crazy night. We're so excited.
• 35:14
Speaker C: And so what's it been like, opening the spot? I mean, and I guess, like, I kind of know the answer. But for those that aren't friends with you, like, what. What has it been like jumping into, like, that community there on river street with, like, you know, everything that's right, you know, from Cafe Euphoria to, like, no Fun. And like, that whole. That whole area, to me is just like
• 35:39
  Speaker E: the
• 35:39
Speaker C: coolest fucking spot in Troy, you know? And,
• 35:42
Speaker E: like, what was it like to just be
• 35:44
Speaker C: thrust right into, like, the center of that community, you know?
• 35:47
Speaker E: Yeah, listen, I mean, we. We've been through the ringer for the past. Past three years or so, and so we knew. We knew to a degree what we were stepping into. And we knew that we were going to have to kind of find our legs very, very quickly. And we have been so blessed to just really just. Just find our spot down there between our neighbors, all the other businesses, the customers, the people coming in and finding us where we been so blessed to just, like, be able to create a space that people are drawn to. Even. I mean, we hear it all the time. People. People are like, oh, I was like on the other side of the street and like, your. Your store just glowed. And I had to come inside and we were like, like, that's awesome. You know, we have kids that come in and they're like, oh, this is like the gothi gay store. We've been called the. The. The Wit. The Witchy Cunt Shop, or the country. The Country Witch Shop. The gay Hot Topic. Troy's hot Topic. You know, like, all of these things are exactly what we wanted to accomplish, and these are like, all of the key hot words that we had in our brain.
• 36:59
  Speaker C: I. I
• 37:00
  Speaker E: Still think my
• 37:00
Speaker C: favorite was, was when someone said queer devil worshipers. Like, that was a bad thing. Like. Like,
• 37:07
  Speaker E: as soon
• 37:08
  Speaker C: as I saw that, I was like, dude, that's a. That's great.
• 37:12
Speaker E: Yeah. Thanks for giving me some merch. Yeah,
• 37:15
  Speaker C: yeah, totally.
• 37:18
Speaker E: No, and, like, it's just. It's been really cool. Really have grasped what we're trying to do. And, I mean, we're a little bit of everything. We're this, like, whimsical, like, queer, like puppets and clown side. But then we love gargoyles, skulls and demons. You know what I mean? And then on top of that, I mean, you know, you know, Scotty, he's just charismatic. People fall in love with him. He is like, just like the face and the energy of the shop. People love to sit down with him and just get. Get their readings and connect with past loved ones. And he has. He has done so much with driving the whole entire brand. You know, I'm really good at putting it. Putting colors together and images together and messages together, but without him, I mean, there just would be no heart in that shot. Yeah,
• 38:06
Speaker C: like, I mean, he really, like, got Katie. You know, for those that don't know my wife Katie, like, he got her, like, really into, like, all the, like, witchy stuff. And, you know, all the. The things that I think are just so good, you know, for me, I'm just like, thank you for making my wife witchy. You know, it's really. It's really awesome. Like.
• 38:30
Speaker E: Yeah, no, I mean, he's. He does such a good job of kind, like, just guiding people to, like, to. To kind of grasp this other side of themselves and to feel comfortable with
• 38:40
Speaker C: that, you know, because, like, I've always been someone, like, I've always kind of, you know, the. The wooey stuff, the, like, you know, paranormal and supernatural. I've always been drawn to that. I've always, like, you know, been really into it. Even though. Even though I'm a skeptic. Like, I'm a really hard skeptic, but I'm a hard skeptic that wants to be proven wrong. You know what I mean? Like, I want to
• 39:06
  Speaker E: be proven wrong,
• 39:07
Speaker C: but I. You know, I haven't been yet. But, you know, Katie's very much a realist and, you know, got that doctor mentality and, like, science.
• 39:16
Speaker E: Yeah, exactly. She's in science and medicine.
• 39:18
Speaker C: Yeah. And, like, so for her to even just, you know, even if it's just slightly like, you know, she. She bought like, a set of tarot cards, and I was like, oh, that's so awesome. You know, even though
• 39:31
  Speaker E: I know
• 39:31
Speaker C: nothing about the tarot cards or whatever, but I'm like, it's just so awesome. And I love, like, that you guys are bringing that to the, like, to the people, but you're like boots on the ground bringing it to the people. People. Like, it's so.
• 39:44
Speaker E: And that's like, honestly, like, there's so many, so many chapters to this story. But if anybody knows anything that has been always some of. So two of the keyword, like, keywords that I've used is like, we've always wanted to be boots on the ground. We always wanted to be in the mix. We always wanted to be accessible. And I really feel like Odd houses, maybe I'm biased, but I really feel like Odd House has become something really, really special to a lot of people and, you know, to the community. And I, I really. We are so blessed and honored to be able to kind of build that and continue building it and find new ways to do it bigger and better.
• 40:22
  Speaker C: Right?
• 40:23
Speaker E: We're hustlers. We're hustlers. We're movers and shakers. So, like, we're never, we're never sitting still. We're always thinking of what, what the next thing is. And, you know, we got big plans. We're excited.
• 40:33
Speaker C: Totally. All right, so before we go, just break down one more time kind of the, the, the. The elevator pitch of what's happening on October 30th.
• 40:42
Speaker E: Absolutely. If you are hearing this before 5pm or at 5pm get in your car and head to downtown Troy Live, Lower River Street. Right now, we have over 50 vendors. We have drag performances, we have Architrave playing live music, a whole bunch of amazing things. We just want to remind you why Halloween is your favorite holiday. Everything from over the top whimsical nostalgia stuff to creepy, weird stuff. Our vendors are out of this world. Our live performances are out of this world. I just want to give another shout out real quick to Judge properties Cafe Euphoria Q 1057, 1035 Live Sound Inc. Sawtooth Jewelry Studios, Heart Cluet and Radio Radio X. Without you guys believing in this, this mission, in this event, we wouldn't have been able to do it. Typhoid Mary, Psoriasis, Rosetta Stone. Thank you also for being here tonight. We are so excited to come and find us. If you, if you hear this before, before we shut down.
• 41:34
Speaker C: Awesome. Hell yeah. Well, give my love to Scotty and I love you, brother. Happy Halloween.
• 41:39
Speaker E: Absolutely. We love you so much. Thank you so much always for believing in us and keeping us in mind.
• 41:47
Speaker C: All right, that was my conversation with Matty Dwyer of Odd House. And be sure to get out in Troy if you're down there and check out all the festivities tomorrow night, Friday. It's going to be crazy, crazy cool. And if I didn't have a Halloween show to play with my ban, then I, I would certainly be there. I'm a little bummed that, that I can't be. But anyway, we're gonna take another real, real quick break and then we're gonna be right back with the, the main attraction of this show. I am so excited for you to hear this. I'm very excited to have talked to these guys. And again, I feel like, you know, I maybe made a little bit of a connection and maybe a couple of friends and maybe it might not be the last time that, that I talk to them, but it's just really cool to get to talk one on one with one of my favorite shows. And if you haven't checked it out, Haddonfield radio, it's on YouTube, it's on Spotify, it's on all the streaming. You can watch them, you can listen to them, you can watch along with the movies, which is my favorite way to experience the show. And they're just really, really cool dudes. And I'm excited to have, have met them and I'm excited for you to hear the conversation. So let's take a real quick break and then we'll be right back with Christian White and Joe Francasio of Haddonfield Radio. Halloween and Friday 13th and Texas Chainsaw are my hands down, three favorite movies of all time. So that's why that's how I found you was back in August. I was searching for a Texas Chainsaw podcast and Haddonfield Radio came up for the watch along. And I was like, yep, this is my new favorite. And I went right back to the beginning and just going all the way through. And I've been doing the watch alongs, like in my weird little office here. I'll put the podcast on and then throw the movie on in sync and then just like go about my day doing stuff. But every once in a while, if you're saying something interesting, I can look over and be like, oh, yeah, all right, cool.
• 44:02
Speaker F: That's awesome. I love that. The way
• 44:04
Speaker G: to do it, that's the way I wish everyone would do it. I just, I try to put the countdown on when to start the movie
• 44:09
  Speaker F: just
• 44:10
  Speaker G: in case.
• 44:10
Speaker C: And what I've done is like, it's. You can Hear, like you can hear that audio in the podcast and like just enough where you can get them close enough. And then I just mute the, you know, mute the movie and off we go. You know,
• 44:26
Speaker F: we always try to keep our commentaries very conversational so that for. To accommodate people who aren't watching. And if you are watching, if you can't line it up exactly. If. As long as it's close enough.
• 44:36
  Speaker C: It's close enough.
• 44:37
Speaker F: Yeah, you'll be fine. Yeah. Yep. Most of
• 44:40
  Speaker C: the
• 44:40
  Speaker F: time.
• 44:40
Speaker C: Yeah. Because like a lot of the watch alongs would be like, all right, do it right, one, two. You know, and like it's always like when you miss it, you're like, I missed it. But it's like, it's like, no, you get it. We're starting it now. Here we go. Boom. So I guess I'm gonna do like the intro, then we'll get. Get rolling and.
• 44:58
Speaker F: Yeah, let's do it.
• 44:59
Speaker C: Basically the last four minutes that we've done is what the podcast is going to be like. Just talking.
• 45:05
  Speaker F: Sounds good.
• 45:05
Speaker C: All right, so we ready?
• 45:07
  Speaker G: Yeah.
• 45:08
Speaker C: All right, so welcome back to on Time518's Halloween episode. And I've got two really, really cool guests on the show right now. I have Christian White and Joe Francasio of my new favorite podcast, Haddonfield Right Radio. How's it going, guys?
• 45:24
Speaker F: Thank you so much. I
• 45:26
Speaker G: want to say good job with the last name. I don't think I've had many people get my last name right on the first take. That
• 45:31
Speaker F: was awesome. That's true.
• 45:32
Speaker G: You heard me say it a lot. But still, people stumble through it. That was good.
• 45:35
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, no, I got. And what was funny is, you know, I listened for a few weeks but didn't have any idea what the two of you look like. And then, you know, when I looked up the, I was like, I had your voices backwards. Words. Like,
• 45:50
Speaker F: people say that. We hear
• 45:51
Speaker G: it all the time. That's so weird. Okay.
• 45:54
Speaker F: I can never imagine his voice coming out. Like, I just have known him for so long, I can't even fathom. People say that to us all the time.
• 46:01
  Speaker G: Yeah,
• 46:02
Speaker C: yeah, it's funny. So I guess, like, tell everybody, like, I obviously know what the podcast is about. And actually wait, before, before I turn it over to you, I want to tell you what made the show stick out to me, like, immediately was you not only tell about the movies, you know, and again, it was Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the first episode I listened to. But you, like, give like that social climate of the era and the story of. What is it? Kent State. The, like, you know, the shooting and how it led up. And at first I was literally like, what is he talking about? Like, this has nothing to do with Texas Chainsaw Massacre Oscar at all. And then you were like. And that student was Toby Hooper. And I literally, in my car, had, like, the loudest oh moment. Like, I was like, there it is. Like, you brought, like. And from then, I was hooked. And you do that so well with every episode. Like,
• 47:00
  Speaker F: thank you.
• 47:01
Speaker C: Who. Who came up with, like, the idea of tying that in, like, with the movie.
• 47:06
  Speaker G: That was Christian
• 47:07
Speaker F: mainly there originally, when we wanted to do Texas Chainsaw, especially that first movie, Joe and I wanted to sort of try to come up with, like, a. A new. Not a new, but just a different origin story than the one you always hear. Right. And. And when I started researching and I. I saw the Charles Whitman story and then found out that Toby Hooper was actually there on campus, and actually him and two of his friends were, like, snapping photos, some of which ended up in Life magazine, the coverage of that. That massacre and that event. When I saw that, I could. I was so. I was so blown away by the fact that he was there, I said, well, how can this not have somehow originated the concept of a massacre? Like, you know, doing a movie about a massacre? How can this not be the origin of that? Even though you always hear that. That. That kind of myth making that he was in a. Toby Hooper was in a department store and he was in a long line on, like, a Black Friday and sees these chainsaws on the wall and starts imagining mowing people down. And he said, well, this is. That gave me the kind of catalyst to write and create the movie with Kim Hinkle. But if he was there during an actual massacre, don't you think that would have some bearing on his inspiration, an
• 48:19
Speaker C: actual Master in Texas, you know?
• 48:21
  Speaker F: Yes.
• 48:22
Speaker G: Yeah, we're blown away that that story wasn't told more when you people were doing research about Toby Hooper in the. In the movie. Movie movie itself, that it became very important for us to make sure that that kind of started, you know, finding its way into the lexicon of. Of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And hopefully we can, you know, help give that information to people and do it in a creative way, like, tell it through almost like a radio drama type of way.
• 48:47
Speaker C: Right? Yeah. And it, like, that's definitely the first I had ever heard of that. And I'm a huge Texas Chainsaw and, like, consider myself, like, knowing. And I was just like, I Cannot believe that I didn't know that. You know, like, that's something
• 49:03
  Speaker F: that profound.
• 49:04
  Speaker C: You know,
• 49:05
Speaker F: the original place I first saw that information that even started me looking deeper into was in one of Toby Hooper's obituaries that were written and posted online. It happened to be written by someone who had kind of known him most of his life and knew. Knew a lot about his private life. So it was almost like a personal obituary that was published in a Texas newspaper. And in that obituary, the woman that was writing it mentioned that he was on that campus and was witnessed, if not in more than just a witness. He was very traumatized. He saw a police officer, saved his life, and then was killed. I said, oh, my God. Like Joe said, I couldn't believe more people in. In horror culture aren't more aware or more familiar with this, because I certainly was. And so the minute I saw that, I said to Joe, this is how we have to open the season. Because this is. This is so interesting and fascinating to me.
• 49:56
Speaker C: Yeah. And like I said, that was the very first episode. Just because, like, every August, you know, August 18th is Chainsaw Day. And like, like every August, I do, like, you know, I watched the movie a couple times. I like, try to find as much media about it as I can. And I just like, literally went to Spotify and typed in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And I was like, oh, Haddonfield radio.
• 50:17
Speaker F: I'm glad that we popped up. That makes me happy that that works.
• 50:21
  Speaker G: Yeah.
• 50:21
Speaker C: Awesome. And like, the name immediately, like, struck, you know, like the Haddonfield radio. Because it's one of those. If you don't know, you might not, you know, if you're
• 50:29
  Speaker F: not
• 50:29
Speaker C: a huge Halloween fan, you might go, what's Haddonfield? You know, New Jersey, like, or, you know, but like, for me, I was like, oh, wow, gotta check this
• 50:36
Speaker F: out. It was definitely certainly our way to make sure at the very beginning when we had no audience at all, to try to find a way to connect with somebody through the name of our show. Maybe they would say, oh, Haddonfield. Okay, maybe this has to do with horror or Halloween or. We also didn't give us a chance
• 50:52
Speaker G: in the beginning. We didn't think we were going to do more than the Halloween movies.
• 50:56
Speaker F: Yeah, right. That's true.
• 50:57
Speaker G: I mean, we really didn't expect many people to sort of catch on to what we were doing. And then when they did, we said, okay, well, let's. Let's go through all the major horror franchises in the 80s and. And we made our way eventually The Texas Chainsaw Mass Massacre.
• 51:10
Speaker C: Yeah. And I love how, you know, you say it all the time, you know, before you watch the movie, how, you know, how much you appreciate everybody and that, you know, you're not experts, you're fans
• 51:20
  Speaker F: and like,
• 51:20
  Speaker C: you
• 51:20
  Speaker F: know,
• 51:21
Speaker C: Finalis is the, like,
• 51:23
  Speaker G: yeah,
• 51:24
Speaker C: like that I love, I love that. The fan, Alice. But that is, I think what is lacking in some horror stuff is that like, I, I can't listen to somebody talking about something and having it be like, totally, like subjective, you know, and being like, oh, this movie is this, this movie is that. Because I like a lot of schlocky, not high tier, you know, horror movies. And I don't like somebody telling me that I'm. That I'm objectively not subjectively. That I'm objectively wrong.
• 52:03
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 52:03
Speaker C: In liking it. You know, I want someone to be like, this is my opinion. You're cool. That, you know, like the guy that I make movies with, his name is Frank Polanji. He's been making like Michael Myers fan films literally for 20 something years. He was like one of the first group of people on YouTube. I'll send you some links. Like, he makes
• 52:25
  Speaker F: great, great. And
• 52:27
Speaker C: it's all zero budget. It's all one man, one camera. And he like goes all in. And we've made, you know, I've been in nine of his movies and like, we've done a bunch of stuff together. We collaborate on a lot. We do not agree on so many horror movies, like, so many, like, in a violent nature. I'm like, I loved that movie. I've seen it 10 times. I thought it was fantastic. And Frank's just like garbage, you know what I mean? And I'm not like, nope, you're wrong. I'm like, tell me why, tell me why you think that. And then we get into a discussion and then it's like, you know, when you approach something, like, you're just like, this is the final. And that's it. I'm usually out. Like, I love that. And that's why, like you
• 53:14
Speaker F: as a listener, so am I. And, and honestly, it. We've said this before on the show, it occurs to us all the time. We know full well that a lot of times a lot of the people listening to us know more about the movies than, than we do that we're talking about. And you have to try to find a way to still make something entertaining or interesting for that person. And as well for a person who doesn't maybe know as much or is just kind of Getting into some of this stuff. So it tends to be sort of the best way we realize we could do it was just be ourselves, just talk about what we can talk about what our perspectives are, our subjective feelings, our are how, how we relate to movies, how our fandom relates to things, and just go from there.
• 53:53
Speaker G: We both kind of naturally have different perspective, like come at movies from a different way.
• 53:59
  Speaker F: Oh God. Yeah.
• 54:00
Speaker G: You know, in, in just, you know, what we like and like to take away from films and the things that sort of catch each of our attention is very different. Yeah. And so we can usually, you know, when we come together, bring a lot of information. We're not just repeating, reading and you know, what, what each other is saying or just puffing each other up or just trying to make a puff piece about the film. And, and I don't know. Yeah, it's a good combo I think when I, when we come at it from both of our perspectives.
• 54:29
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 54:30
Speaker C: And you can tell that too in like that you at least do individual research, you know, because a lot of the times like, you know, Joe, you'll bring something up and then Christian, you'll be like, oh, well, I have that exact same thing in my name notes and everything. And that stood out to me as like, oh, they're, they're literally just like you're recording each other's reactions in real time. It's not like a planned out thing.
• 54:54
Speaker G: We go out of our way to not talk to each other about the film that we're about to record next so that we can save it up. So it is a very natural conversation between each of us. So if we do bring up something that the other one doesn't know, it is genuinely surprising in the moment. And so yeah, we, we, we try to put some work into how the audience will, will res, you know, receive the information from us.
• 55:22
Speaker F: We're always like, the number one thing is just we're always so very concerned making sure everything is going to be entertaining. Also inclusive to everybody. We, even if we don't like a movie, we don't ever want to turn somebody off off because like we always say every movie is somebody's favorite movie. And, and, and even if we have to share our opinion and like we just covered today, we just recorded the Texas Chainsaw 2022, the net, the Netflix one. And of course we had to sort of nuke it, but we still have to talk about some of the things that are interesting or, or positive and, and still make some room for people who maybe do love that Movie. I don't know how many of those people. There's not many of them. I like, I like about 90 seconds
• 56:03
Speaker D: of that movie. There's about 90 seconds of that movie. And like, it's really not too much more before I would say I like it. Like, that's how I am with movies. If it has like three really
• 56:13
Speaker C: solid kills that I like, I'm like, yeah, that's great.
• 56:16
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 56:16
Speaker C: And like, you know, The Texas Chainsaw 2022 really only had about. About a minute and a half that I was like, oh, this is going somewhere. And then I was like, nope, it's not like. And like, it's just that the, the legacy quel formula, it was just.
• 56:31
  Speaker G: Yeah,
• 56:31
Speaker C: okay, cool. So you're making Halloween 2018, but you're making the Texas Chainsaw 2022 version of it, but like bringing Sally back and like. Ah, yeah, you're right.
• 56:42
Speaker F: Now hold on. Did you just say legacyquel?
• 56:45
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 56:47
Speaker F: You started by talking about. What was the word that he mentioned at the beginning?
• 56:51
  Speaker C: Fan. Alice.
• 56:53
Speaker F: I want to say I prefer legacy. Yeah,
• 56:56
  Speaker C: Legacy.
• 56:57
  Speaker F: That's
• 56:58
  Speaker C: like, you know,
• 56:58
Speaker F: I can't believe I've that nobody's that. I think you just might have coined something really interesting. Legacy. Quel. That's a perfect one of those types of. Yeah.
• 57:06
Speaker C: Cuz it's like they bring back the legacy characters and be like, hey, look at. It's the same actress and the thing, you know, like the same.
• 57:15
Speaker G: They were even gonna call the. They were gonna. If they were gonna make a sequel to the, to the 2022, it was going to be called like Texas Chainsaw Legacy.
• 57:22
  Speaker F: Okay.
• 57:23
  Speaker C: And
• 57:23
Speaker G: then that got scrapped for the, for the. Than what they're doing now. But anyway.
• 57:26
Speaker C: Well, they, they owe me some royalties on that then, you know,
• 57:30
  Speaker G: you
• 57:30
Speaker F: should try. You should get those. Yeah. Creative.
• 57:34
Speaker C: And there's like something about like the, like the older movies for me and I know for sure it's all about the practical effects. Like there's something that gets lost once you add like digital. Like, I, I would, I would much rather see like a cheesy special effect, like, you know, seeing Stavros's fingers when, you know, Pamela Voorhees gets her head cut off. And like seeing
• 58:02
  Speaker F: his ring,
• 58:02
Speaker C: big hairy knuckles and like
• 58:04
  Speaker F: the toothpicks
• 58:05
Speaker C: sticking up. I would rather see like a slight flaw like that than a perfect digital effect every time. It just takes me out.
• 58:14
Speaker G: Digital effects, the problem is, you know, they look at it as a positive. The problem really is that you can tweak forever to use you to. You get something. And when guys were doing practical effects, it was like a whole different types of skillsman that these guys were. They had to have it down the day they were shooting. They had to know what
• 58:31
Speaker F: they were doing, like,
• 58:33
Speaker G: that was it. You had to do it then and be ready and. And, you know, so it's a whole different mindset.
• 58:39
  Speaker F: Artistry.
• 58:40
Speaker G: Yeah. Practical just has a. A flavor to it that guys, like our age, I think, recognize, you know, from the 80s and whatnot.
• 58:48
  Speaker C: Yeah.
• 58:50
Speaker G: And like, the newer audiences or. Or there's a whole generation now who only grew up with digital effects. And. And so it's cool when there are filmmakers nowadays that will. It'll never be like it was. But when they do add some practical effects, it's because there's. They're adding back a flavor that's been gone for so long. And. And it feels kind of new again to these younger audiences. And then we're seeing it like, yeah, great. They're doing practical effect, you know, so it was like, when we were young, we would watch movies from the 50s, right. That there was a certain flavor to the old horror movies and the Universal, you know, it was very unrealistic and everything, but
• 59:29
Speaker F: you love them. Had its charm, you know,
• 59:32
Speaker G: so it'll. It'll, you know, always, I think, work it like that, it with effects, but I think it's a little cyclical where we're kind of falling for some love for practical.
• 59:43
Speaker C: It's almost just like with media, you know, like vinyl or CDs or DVDs or whatever, they all went away and everybody was streaming. And then 20 years into it, people are starting to bring back, you know, physical media and stuff. But it was just like I was listening to the Nightmare on Elm street episode. That's. That's where I'm up to in my. In my chronological listen. And you were talking about the shot where he comes out of the mirror. And I didn't realize, like. And I guess, like, you know, I. I didn't realize the level of effects, but I had no idea that was practical. Like. And I get that it was, you know, 1983 or whatever, but I'm like, holy shit. Like, I guess you're right. That was really a dude jumping through a breakaway mirror. Like, and how.
• 1:00:30
Speaker F: That's how they. Back then, if they would just throw a stunt guy through a window, they'd throw a stunt guy. If they. They didn't even need a stunt guy. They'd throw him off a roof. They're ready to shoot.
• 1:00:38
Speaker G: So Just make something happen.
• 1:00:40
Speaker F: Just chuck someone through something.
• 1:00:42
Speaker G: We try on the show to. To the. When we are just giving sort of facts about the movie being made. I try to go out of our way to find stuff that isn't the same old 10 facts you always hear about movies. And I. It's, you know, I'll sit and listen to every commentary hours and hours and hours and just try to pluck out these little bits of information that you don't get every day. And you know, know it's again,
• 1:01:07
Speaker F: something. Get them all together in one spot. So it's. Yeah, I tried. It's like I try to do
• 1:01:12
Speaker G: all the research for everybody. I'm trying to listen to all the. The. The really long and boring sometimes stuff and. But just pull out all the gems, condense it together for our show and then spit it back out. You know, just the cool important things that you don't hear all the time. But.
• 1:01:28
Speaker D: And how much like how much research goes into every episode. Like
• 1:01:34
Speaker F: each one individual. Every movie gets within a month because we. We record an episode and one of our like fully produced stories every month. So each of those gets that amount probably like two or three weeks of research. And then we just come and bang it out
• 1:01:50
Speaker G: and. And it's split. I know he's gonna. Christian will research more the social aspect of the. The film and in. In cultural
• 1:02:00
Speaker F: stuff, all the that.
• 1:02:01
Speaker G: And I'm looking up more like what cameras were they using and you know, who was doing the effects and you know. And so again, yeah, it's a great, I think, combo when we come together and what we're both, you know, regurgitating to everybody.
• 1:02:12
Speaker C: Yeah. And it is like tr. Like as a, you know, a, I don't know, gorilla filmmaker or whatever. Like I said, we make, you know, horror films with a really nice camera and that's it. You know, like no budget outside of that. But like listening to your show, it does not only give me like insight into a lot of these films, but you're right, like with the, like, what camera are they using? What lens are they using? There's so many like, I guess, tips and tricks that are buried in the entertaining stories within the movies that I've. I've personally picked out because that's what I'm, you know, trying to obsessively learn, you know,
• 1:02:52
Speaker F: if any of the listeners are any. Any like Joe and I, which it seems like a lot. We all kind of similar taste and similar people. You know, I know when I listen to stuff that I love, I love Hearing those little tiny kind of pieces of information I haven't heard before. Find something out I've never known. I love that feeling, especially when it comes to things I'm passionate about or things I love. So Joe and I just try to do that exact same thing. We try to focus on trying to bring that type of a feeling to people that are listening to or appreciate our show. Just try to. I try to always think about what I love, love about podcasts, what I love about YouTube channels, what stuff that. That gets me excited, what stuff that's entertaining to me, and just try to reflect that back for other people. That. That's very important to us.
• 1:03:34
Speaker C: Yeah, you do a great job at it, because. Thank
• 1:03:36
  Speaker F: you.
• 1:03:37
Speaker C: I was immediate, and I listen to a lot of podcasts, and, you know, a lot of the times I'm guilty of not really listening. Like, I'll be in my car and I'm not. And like I said, I knew that I was hooked when I was hanging on every word on the. That first episode of Texas Chainsaw. And. But. And, you know, admittedly at first I was kind of like, what the fuck is he talking about?
• 1:03:58
Speaker G: We heard that a couple times. Just stick
• 1:04:02
  Speaker F: with us.
• 1:04:02
  Speaker G: Yeah.
• 1:04:03
  Speaker C: And it
• 1:04:03
Speaker G: was the very first thing
• 1:04:04
Speaker C: that I heard, so I was, like, a little confused. And again, getting that Toby Hooper, I was like, oh,
• 1:04:12
Speaker F: you know, it's like recently we made the decision to sort of separate off those opening stories and just make the episode the history, Legacy and lore episode in the stories. Two separate things. They're both released during the month, and they definitely complement each other and work with each other. But we kept hearing kind of the same uniform thing, not really hyper critically, but saying people. Some people might be a little thrown off saying, like, why are you talking about the Minotaur for Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2? Until maybe you get three quarters of the way in and you start to see how we tie. But I love, like,
• 1:04:43
Speaker C: I love that because, like, once
• 1:04:44
Speaker F: I caught that first formula,
• 1:04:47
Speaker C: like, when I was, you know, then I would be like, all right, how was. How is this wild story gonna tie into this?
• 1:04:53
Speaker F: I love to hear that.
• 1:04:54
  Speaker G: There's always a connection.
• 1:04:55
  Speaker C: Yeah, I
• 1:04:56
Speaker F: love to hear that. That makes me feel really happy. Both of us. I'm sure I can speak for Joe, right?
• 1:05:00
  Speaker G: Yes.
• 1:05:00
Speaker F: Good. He's happy. Good. We're all happy. Everyone's happy. Are you happy? I think
• 1:05:04
Speaker C: I'm happy. Everyone is totally happy.
• 1:05:06
Speaker F: So can I ask you a quick question?
• 1:05:07
  Speaker C: Yeah, absolutely.
• 1:05:09
Speaker F: Tell me, what was the movie that you were saying that. That you said you made a film yourself.
• 1:05:13
Speaker C: We made a movie called. Called Farmhouse. And it. It started because Frank and I, Frank Polangi was the, you know, he's made a ton of films. Like, I said, I'll send you a link. He's. He's
• 1:05:26
  Speaker F: a great
• 1:05:26
Speaker C: dude. He actually came on my podcast to talk about music a couple years ago. And while we were talking, you know, he saw all my horror stuff and he was like, oh, well, you know, and then he, you know, and then we became fast friends and we started, you know, doing stuff together. But we had gone to a horror convention and I had just shot some scenes for a movie that he had done, and I was like, hey, I have this idea for this movie because my wife had house sat for her friend who lives in this gorgeous farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere. Like, just these crazy views, like this, like, unreal place. But she's from Long island, so like, isolate, you know, country. Isolation is not, you know, something she's nor. So she had a rough go over, you know, for the one night that she was there, you know, and she was like, I didn't get much sleep. Like, she was like, it's not that I heard noises. She was like. But the silence really freaked me out. And, like, so I got thinking of this story of a girl who is not used to isolation, house sitting, and then, you know, some masculine serial killer shows up and, you know, whatever. And so Frank was like, write up a treatment. And I'm a. I'm also a writer, like a music journalist. Again, not a story writer. But so I wrote up this, like, two or three page treatment and emailed it to him. And that night he sent me back a script, like, from like my, you know, eight or 10 paragraphs, had this script and was like, oh, well, you know, because that's going to be short. So I had to add this. So I created these new characters, created this side story, created the cops, created this and that. And then he was like, when do you want to shoot it, Mike? I don't know. It was less than two weeks from the time I wrote it to the time we shot it. And we shot it at the exact same farmhouse that my wife House sat at, because, you know, they're friends of ours. And we were basically just like, like, hey,
• 1:07:33
  Speaker F: you know,
• 1:07:35
Speaker C: can we come to your house and shoot a horror movie? And they were thrilled with it. And, like, they brought us in. They. They have an Airbnb there. They, like, set us up in the Airbnb, you know, free of charge. For the weekend. And we shot from 4 o' clock Friday afternoon until 7 o' clock Sunday.
• 1:07:55
  Speaker F: And
• 1:07:56
Speaker C: we were there, you know, we would take naps and then shoot. Frank, I don't think he slept at all, but yeah. And then he hustled his butt and edited it, put it together, tried to get distribution and he got Bayview Entertainment to distribute it and it's on Amazon.
• 1:08:15
  Speaker F: That is incredible.
• 1:08:16
Speaker C: And I play the slasher. I'm the killer too.
• 1:08:18
Speaker F: Oh, that's even cooler.
• 1:08:20
Speaker C: I'm the masked. I'm the masked killer. You only see my face twice and I. And I don't say a word.
• 1:08:27
  Speaker F: I love.
• 1:08:28
Speaker G: How long is the film?
• 1:08:30
  Speaker C: An hour.
• 1:08:31
  Speaker F: Nice.
• 1:08:32
Speaker C: And it's got like very. It's very clear homages to Halloween. Friday 13th in Texas Chainsaw. Like intentionally. Like, of
• 1:08:42
  Speaker F: course,
• 1:08:43
Speaker C: you know, very intentionally. Like the end scene, I'm chasing the. The final girl who's like one of my best friends and the trumpet player in my band. And she was running and I was like, wait, hold on. Come over here. And I showed her the final scene of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And I was like, run like that. And she's like, okay. So her running is 100% Sally Hardesty at the end of Texas Chainsaw. It's like there's like tons of little, like, you know, little homages to horror movies. But
• 1:09:19
Speaker F: that is so cool. Yeah,
• 1:09:20
Speaker C: I'll email you a link to it, like.
• 1:09:22
Speaker F: Oh, definitely, Absolutely. I would love to check
• 1:09:25
  Speaker C: that out. Well,
• 1:09:25
Speaker G: doing, you know, small independent horror films are in the DNA of the horror genre. It's, you know,
• 1:09:31
Speaker F: that's where it all starts.
• 1:09:32
Speaker G: People got to keep making films like that. And that's how all the big franchises usually started their first films or usually independent films, you know. So every. Big guys like you guys doing that
• 1:09:45
Speaker F: out of those. Yeah,
• 1:09:46
Speaker C: Texas. Texas Chainsaw and Halloween and Friday the 13th. None of them. My three favorite movies of all time. Time. None of them were studio movies. They got picked up after they were done. They were all
• 1:09:59
  Speaker F: absolutely
• 1:10:00
Speaker C: indie films, you know. Yeah.
• 1:10:02
Speaker G: You just got to do it. You never know.
• 1:10:03
Speaker F: Yep, you're absolutely right.
• 1:10:05
Speaker C: Yeah. And I, I just added to my. My Halloween while I got Nancy Stevens autograph at
• 1:10:12
Speaker F: there. I can see that. I love your wall. Look at this cool area you've got behind you.
• 1:10:16
Speaker G: Yeah, some nice laser
• 1:10:17
  Speaker F: discs.
• 1:10:19
Speaker C: Those are the. Yeah, the OG the discs are in there. They are the LaserDisc OG Star Wars. I've got.
• 1:10:28
Speaker F: You recognize those right away. I have them in
• 1:10:30
Speaker G: a box in the next
• 1:10:31
  Speaker F: room.
• 1:10:32
Speaker C: And then I'VE got. I don't know if you can see that. That's my little horror shelf with all my little Michael Myers and Jason's and
• 1:10:40
  Speaker F: love that.
• 1:10:41
Speaker G: You know, horror film fans, we tend to collect.
• 1:10:45
  Speaker F: You know what
• 1:10:45
Speaker G: I mean? Or film fans in general. Right. Everyone's got a little collection.
• 1:10:48
Speaker F: Horror fans in general, we're all bunch of hoarders. Yeah.
• 1:10:51
Speaker C: Oh, for sure. And that's why, like, this is. I'm in my garage, like, here I'll turn so you can kind of see the. The whole thing maybe. But yeah, it's. It's a garage. And my wife was basically like, yeah, you can do whatever you want in there. Do not let any of your creepy make its way out into the house. Like. And I'm like, fair. That's fair. You know, So I can, I can gather and obtain as much as I want. It stays in here. Yeah.
• 1:11:18
Speaker G: Now you have the creepiest garage in town.
• 1:11:21
Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, I really, I really do. And like, my, my only Halloween decoration this year is just a full size. I alternate mask a full size Michael Myers or Leatherface up in my front window with police lights shining on it.
• 1:11:37
  Speaker F: Oh, that's cool.
• 1:11:39
  Speaker G: So
• 1:11:39
Speaker C: people drive by, they're probably like, what the.
• 1:11:43
Speaker F: But I love that.
• 1:11:44
  Speaker C: Yeah, cool.
• 1:11:45
Speaker G: So this, this episode is. This is airing on actual Halloween.
• 1:11:49
Speaker C: I mean, the week of, like, probably when is. Halloween's like on a Friday, right?
• 1:11:55
  Speaker F: Yeah, Then,
• 1:11:56
Speaker C: then I'll probably release it. Yeah, that Friday morning.
• 1:11:59
  Speaker G: Oh, cool.
• 1:12:00
  Speaker C: Or maybe
• 1:12:01
Speaker F: please, like, let us know so we know. Oh,
• 1:12:03
Speaker C: yeah. Oh, I definitely will. Yeah. And
• 1:12:05
Speaker F: we'll definitely tell everyone on Instagram and all that to check it out, so that'll be fun too.
• 1:12:09
Speaker G: Are there any horror movies coming out soon that you're excited about? Anything on your radar that you're, you're, you can't wait to see
• 1:12:16
Speaker C: movies? I don't really know about. The one thing that I'm excited about in the horror world that I've been absolutely obsessed about is already out and is sucking up every second of my free time. And that's the Halloween game.
• 1:12:30
Speaker F: Oh, we were just talking about that.
• 1:12:32
Speaker G: It is. Started playing. Unreal.
• 1:12:34
  Speaker C: Yeah, it is.
• 1:12:35
Speaker F: You're really enjoying it.
• 1:12:37
Speaker C: I've. I've got more than 100 hours into it.
• 1:12:40
  Speaker G: Oh my God.
• 1:12:41
  Speaker F: And
• 1:12:42
Speaker C: it's only been out for like a month. Like, I've literally, like I said, I've literally, like been staying up way past my bedtime to like, to play that game because it is, it's. Every round is like being in a horror movie. Like no two rounds are the same. And like it, they captured like the, the feel of the 1978 Halloween movie to a T. Like, it's unbelievable. I
• 1:13:10
Speaker G: like all the little, the little side stories that you didn't really happen in the movie, but could have.
• 1:13:16
  Speaker C: Yep.
• 1:13:16
Speaker G: You know, he goes into the Red Rabbit bar and stuff and I'm like, oh, it didn't happen, but it could have. So.
• 1:13:23
  Speaker C: Yeah, yeah,
• 1:13:23
  Speaker G: right. Yeah.
• 1:13:24
  Speaker C: And,
• 1:13:24
  Speaker G: and you
• 1:13:25
Speaker C: can, in the single player, which, which is the part that you're talking about, they have the level that's called like the babysitters. And you can literally, I mean you can do whatever you want, but you can literally create the Bob, recreate the Bob and Linda the entire scene. Like them upstairs, Bob going downstairs, you killing Bob, pinning him to the wall, finding the sheet, putting on the sheet, putting on the glasses, going upstairs and killing Linda. And then you can also. There's a part, part where you're six year old Michael and you. And you kill Judith.
• 1:13:59
Speaker G: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I played that part.
• 1:14:01
Speaker F: And you're just playing it out like.
• 1:14:03
Speaker G: Yeah. You go into the kitchen, you
• 1:14:05
Speaker C: get the knife, you
• 1:14:06
  Speaker G: walk upstairs,
• 1:14:07
  Speaker C: you
• 1:14:07
Speaker G: put the mask on. Like,
• 1:14:09
  Speaker F: that's so cool.
• 1:14:11
Speaker G: Yeah, it was fun.
• 1:14:12
Speaker C: Yeah. And I actually, I didn't get her autograph, but we met the actress who plays Judith the same time that I,
• 1:14:19
  Speaker G: that
• 1:14:19
Speaker C: I met Sandy Johnson. Yeah, yeah. Because Frank Gutter in his next movie. Oh,
• 1:14:26
  Speaker G: nice. He's
• 1:14:26
Speaker C: done that a couple times. Like.
• 1:14:27
  Speaker G: Yeah.
• 1:14:28
Speaker C: You know, get like famous people and it's just like, hey, you know, and it's just like either a quick voice thing or something they can do over their phone or whatever. Sure. But
• 1:14:36
Speaker F: I just want to say Sandy Johnson, in my opinion, is the most gorgeous Playboy playmate of all time. I've said this for years and years. Her Playboy pictorials are some of the hottest I've ever seen in my life. I
• 1:14:50
  Speaker C: didn't even
• 1:14:51
Speaker F: recognize that was her.
• 1:14:53
Speaker C: And when I saw the like is at her booth, you know, I knew who she was from Halloween. But when we were at her booth, she had, you know, pictures that, you know, that you could buy an autograph. Some of them are the Playboy pictures and I immediately recognized them. Like, and I was like, oh, no kidding. Yeah, I remember that picture from when I was young, you know. Yeah.
• 1:15:12
Speaker F: I just think they're, they're beautifully shot. She looks, I mean, she almost, I almost like, I can't believe this was a real person. Yeah,
• 1:15:19
  Speaker C: right.
• 1:15:19
  Speaker F: And she
• 1:15:20
  Speaker C: is
• 1:15:20
  Speaker F: unbelievably nice.
• 1:15:22
  Speaker C: Like unborn. Yeah,
• 1:15:23
Speaker G: we met her A couple years
• 1:15:24
  Speaker F: ago.
• 1:15:24
  Speaker G: Yeah. Yeah.
• 1:15:25
Speaker C: She, like, you know, was like, oh, hang out. You know, hang out, you know, and, like, was talking to. You know, it was. It was great. It's like,
• 1:15:32
  Speaker F: oh, that's awesome.
• 1:15:32
Speaker C: You know, for a nerd like myself, like, for someone to just take a couple, you know, like, you guys to just be like, oh, we're going to take a little bit of time for the. You know, that goes
• 1:15:41
  Speaker F: a
• 1:15:41
  Speaker C: long
• 1:15:41
Speaker F: way. Literally a nerds no different than. We're all the same. I mean, it's just. We were psyched to come and do this. We were excited to be here to do this.
• 1:15:48
Speaker C: I love that. Not.
• 1:15:49
  Speaker F: Not
• 1:15:50
Speaker C: as psyched as me, but. All right, so I will. I will, I guess, let you guys go. I do appreciate it. Hopefully we'll stay in touch. Yeah, I think I got what I needed. I gotta. All
• 1:16:00
Speaker G: right, I'm gonna. I'll just hit stop on the record and make sure the files are all
• 1:16:05
Speaker F: goodbye and everything. Yeah, I just
• 1:16:08
Speaker G: wanted to make sure. Yeah, we're good.
• 1:16:10
  Speaker C: All right. No,
• 1:16:10
Speaker F: thank you. Thank. Thank you from the bottom of our heart, like, for even. Even thinking to ask and invite us to join you on your show. I. I really want to tell you how much we appreciate that. Thank you for asking us. Yeah, it was really nice of you to ask us. Well,
• 1:16:24
Speaker C: I mean, it was so cool because what started it was. I saw that you followed me back on Instagram. Yep. And I was here, like, because my band practices in this. In this garage, and band practice was just getting started, and I was just like, oh, my God, they follow me on Instagram. And I said to my guitar player, I'm like, I'm gonna message them and see if they'll be on my Halloween episode. Like, just, you know, that's because that's how I roll. And you guys responded. Responded instantly, like, yeah, sure. And I was like, I'm
• 1:16:51
Speaker F: just sitting there with my phone all night.
• 1:16:53
  Speaker C: It
• 1:16:53
Speaker F: comes right. If you go to the Instagram page, you're literally talking to me. I do the
• 1:16:57
Speaker C: same on mine. Like, I treat it as my office. You know,
• 1:17:00
Speaker F: nobody texts me, calls me. I. I'm like a complete hermit. So when I get that little ding, I'm like. So I was. I was thrilled.
• 1:17:08
  Speaker C: Hell, yeah.
• 1:17:09
  Speaker F: I was thrilled.
• 1:17:10
Speaker C: Yeah. So, like, what was it? Last year, I had Brad Laree on Michael. Michael Myers from Halloween resurrect. I got his.
• 1:17:21
Speaker F: Oh, that's so awesome.
• 1:17:23
  Speaker C: Over there. Him.
• 1:17:24
  Speaker F: Him
• 1:17:25
  Speaker C: and Jamie.
• 1:17:26
Speaker F: I was wondering what that one was. Yeah,
• 1:17:28
Speaker C: that one's Brad. Larry with him. Facing off of Jamie Lee Curtis. Then
• 1:17:33
  Speaker F: Nancy Stevens. That's just a
• 1:17:35
Speaker C: painting. That's Tony Moran.
• 1:17:38
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 1:17:39
Speaker C: Who, you know, whatever. I have my opinions about him but you
• 1:17:42
  Speaker F: know,
• 1:17:44
Speaker C: like. But you know, still. He was the original Michael Myers.
• 1:17:49
  Speaker F: Technically.
• 1:17:50
  Speaker G: Technically.
• 1:17:50
  Speaker C: Technically. I
• 1:17:51
  Speaker F: suppose
• 1:17:52
Speaker C: for a second. One shot. One shot. Yeah.
• 1:17:56
Speaker F: This was a lot of fun. Thank you so much. Anytime. And anytime. Just please, if you ever have something, just reach out to us. We'd to love to. To do this again sometime and maybe come on our show sometime.
• 1:18:05
  Speaker C: Dude.
• 1:18:05
Speaker F: Come on. One of our live streams. Anytime. Would you be willing to do that?
• 1:18:09
  Speaker C: Absolutely. Absolutely.
• 1:18:11
  Speaker F: Without
• 1:18:11
  Speaker C: question.
• 1:18:11
Speaker F: We'll set it up
• 1:18:13
Speaker C: and then, you know, I'll. I'll Joe, I'll email you the link to the movie and. Yes please. You can check that out.
• 1:18:21
Speaker F: Check that out. Check that out.
• 1:18:23
Speaker C: Zero well actually I say zero dollars. There's an actress, Geneva Rossi, who Her like, most notable thing is Walking Dead. She's been in a ton of them as a zombie. She does like really great zombie work. She was in Dead City and Walking Dead. We got her to be the 911 operator. So she. She is like, you know, it was a nominal fee, but that was the only money that we spent.
• 1:18:53
Speaker F: Worth it. Anyone connected to Walking Dead
• 1:18:56
  Speaker C: 100. 100.
• 1:18:58
  Speaker F: She is so
• 1:18:58
Speaker C: cool. Like. And she does like a lot of cons and is very connected in the horror world. And like,
• 1:19:04
Speaker F: oh, that's so cool. Super.
• 1:19:05
  Speaker C: Super nice. And
• 1:19:07
Speaker F: such a friendly community. People are just. This has got to be the nicest of group fan community. I say it all
• 1:19:12
Speaker C: the time. I say like it's
• 1:19:13
  Speaker F: almost the
• 1:19:14
Speaker C: darker. The darker and more twisted the. The movies are that the person likes usually the kinder and more gentle they are. Exactly.
• 1:19:24
Speaker F: Absolutely true. 100. I think a lot of people who don't get into horror would probably be very shocked by that. Yeah. It's the most like friendly fans that even nowadays where trolling and all this stuff is in every fandom, you don't really see it in horror. Horror is so welcoming. We're
• 1:19:38
Speaker G: always like, oh, we're gonna get ripped on this and. And then we
• 1:19:41
  Speaker F: don't. Everyone's
• 1:19:42
  Speaker G: so nice.
• 1:19:43
Speaker F: Everyone's always been so polite and friendly to us. So it's really. I. We expected that would happen. It never did. So
• 1:19:49
  Speaker C: that's awesome.
• 1:19:50
Speaker F: That's indicative of the horror community for sure.
• 1:19:53
Speaker G: I will. I will set up a Gmail account or upload the files to my Google Drive. There we go.
• 1:20:04
  Speaker F: I
• 1:20:04
Speaker G: couldn't get it out Google Drive. Get it up on the Google Drive. I'll get you a link later tonight.
• 1:20:08
  Speaker C: Okay.
• 1:20:09
Speaker G: And. And they'll be, they'll be there.
• 1:20:11
Speaker F: Yeah. Let us know when it's going to air and all that and we'll check it out.
• 1:20:14
Speaker C: Yeah. And when I do, I'll do like a, a social post. Like I'll, I'll reach out to you like private, privately and let you know when it's gonna air. But I'll do a social post and like have you collab on it and stuff.
• 1:20:25
Speaker F: This was so much fun. It really made our day to be involved. It's nice
• 1:20:28
Speaker G: to be doing something and not have to do all the work.
• 1:20:32
Speaker F: Yeah, yeah. Like just sitting here and just answering, just chatting. It's
• 1:20:35
  Speaker G: nice.
• 1:20:35
  Speaker F: Yeah.
• 1:20:36
Speaker C: And I'm excited to do the work, you know what I mean? Because this is every year my Halloween episode is like basically my wife. I'm like, I'm gonna disappear for like a week because I just put together like, like two or three hours of content. Usually release like one or two episodes and, and not to keep you too much longer, but you know, sleep away camp, obviously.
• 1:20:58
  Speaker G: Yeah.
• 1:20:59
Speaker C: I live about an eight minute drive from where that was filmed, like the, the lake. And I know the guy who owns the property. So like I've gone. Last year we went and recorded live from the scene where the, the pier is at sleepaway camp. And we were standing right on the beach. So you could be like. Yeah, you know, that's where Angela, where. That's where the big, big finale was, you know, right over there. That's. It doesn't look the
• 1:21:27
  Speaker F: same now, but.
• 1:21:28
  Speaker C: Yeah,
• 1:21:28
Speaker F: but it's still cool.
• 1:21:30
Speaker C: It's still there. So. Yeah,
• 1:21:31
Speaker G: I think it's screaming for a Friday 13th fan film too free by you guys.
• 1:21:36
Speaker C: So I would. Oh my God. I would like. There is a shot in Frank's new movie, there is a shot of the camp, but it's from the other side of the lake. Like he's on the other side of the lake and you see across the lake and then you see the, the sleep away camp. But yeah, wild.
• 1:21:53
Speaker F: All right, thanks, Andy. Thank you so much.
• 1:21:56
Speaker C: Absolutely. And we'll talk to you soon. All right,
• 1:21:58
Speaker G: bye, Andy. Thank you.
• 1:22:00
  Speaker F: Thank you.
• 1:22:02
Speaker C: All right, everybody, thank you so much for listening. This has been really cool. Like again, Halloween episodes are always my favorite. And if you made it this far, I, I appreciate you. And make sure you check out Haddonfield radio. It's so good. They do, you know, all the Halloween movies. They've got all The Friday the 13th movies, all the Nightmare on Elm street movies, Texas Chainsaw movies, and they go so deep in them. But it's, it's different than just like a, hey, let me talk about this movie. Like, they really care about film and everything. It was just. They're, they're great. So go check it out. Haddonfield Radio. Make sure if you're down in Troy, you go down and check out the happenings down there on River Streets in Troy. And obviously go to Cannabis Central for all your cannabis needs, because I'll, I'll be there and have Howard will be there and you can talk spooky movies with us anytime, any day, any, any, any time of the year. So come down and check us out there. But anyway, thank you so much for listening. I am Andy scullin. This is Unsigned518's Halloween episode and I'll see you on the road. Unsigned518 Halloween special is hosted and produced by me, Andy Scullet. Underscore uses elements of nightmares by A.B. the autocrat and the Dazzle. Then theme song is written by Lonnie Eaton and performed by Forensic Polaroids. Unsigned 518 is part of the Metroland now network of podcasts. Thank you for listening and happy Halloween.
