1:45
Speaker 5: And as we speak, our third annual WVRC Media Charleston
1:49
Speaker 5: Turkey Drop going on on our parking lot eleven eleven
1:52
Speaker 5: Virginia streetdast and Charleston. We started at seven this morning.
1:55
Speaker 5: We're going to go to six o'clock tonight again on
1:57
Speaker 5: our parking lot. You don't even have to get out
1:59
Speaker 5: of the car, folks. We have got a full staff
2:02
Speaker 5: out there, folks. From ninety eight to seven Mountain kws
2:05
Speaker 5: V one hundred to beat chs we're all out there.
2:07
Speaker 5: Well I'm not because I'm in here, but they're out
2:09
Speaker 5: there right. I was out there earlier, and I'll be
2:11
Speaker 5: returning to the parking a little bit later on. So
2:13
Speaker 5: just pull into the parking lot, and we can also
2:16
Speaker 5: take your cash donations if you want to do that,
2:19
Speaker 5: So we can take a check. We can even do
2:20
Speaker 5: the whole QR code thing if you want. Seven AM's
2:23
Speaker 5: when we started. We'll be out there atill six o'clock tonight.
2:25
Speaker 5: And again, so many folks like Appalachria Power and Serve
2:29
Speaker 5: Pro and just so many folks have come out to
2:32
Speaker 5: help us with this from a corporate standpoint, but it's
2:34
Speaker 5: all about the listeners. You folks are the greatest in
2:38
Speaker 5: the world. And as of about thirty minutes or so ago,
2:42
Speaker 5: we had already collected In roughly ninety minutes, we'd already
2:46
Speaker 5: collected thirty turkeys out there, folks. So I mean, people
2:49
Speaker 5: pull up with one, people pull up with a truckload, truckload,
2:53
Speaker 5: whatever the case may be. Even if you can just
2:55
Speaker 5: make a small cash donation, that's fine too. So again
2:57
Speaker 5: we have more in that coming up a little bit
2:59
Speaker 5: later on. Also Thanksgiving us next week. But some folks
3:02
Speaker 5: are already thinking about Christmas. The city of South Charleston.
3:05
Speaker 5: One of those, Sean Zaniga from the City of South Charleston,
3:08
Speaker 5: is gonna join us to talk a little Christmas in
3:10
Speaker 5: the Land of the Black Eagles. Plus we'll get to
3:13

3:21
Speaker 5: Let's welcome to the show though our good friend from
3:23
Speaker 5: Bridge Valley Community Technical College, doctor Casey Sachs. Good morning,
3:27
Speaker 5: welcome to the show.
3:28
Speaker 6: Good morning, So great to be with you today, Dave.
3:31
Speaker 5: So great to hear your voice. Great to have you
3:33
Speaker 5: with us. You know, sometimes you join us in studio,
3:35
Speaker 5: sometimes you join us on location. Completely understood, But you
3:39
Speaker 5: are missing Turkey drop, doctor Sachs.
3:41
Speaker 6: I know what a bummer I'm but you know I'm
3:44
Speaker 6: having fun over at Bridge Valley today. So you're also
3:47
Speaker 6: missing out at the college.
3:48
Speaker 5: Well, okay, all right, what kind of fun are we
3:50
Speaker 5: missing over there?
3:51
Speaker 6: You know? School?
3:52
Speaker 3: Oh?
3:52
Speaker 5: Oh, oh, that thing, that thing, that thing that we do. Well,
3:59
Speaker 5: appreciate you being here. Do want to talk about you.
4:02
Speaker 5: You just got back from DC?
4:03
Speaker 3: Is that right?
4:04
Speaker 7: I did.
4:05
Speaker 6: I came home from DC last night. It's so good
4:07
Speaker 6: to be home.
4:08
Speaker 3: All right.
4:08
Speaker 5: What were you doing in DC?
4:10
Speaker 8: So?
4:10
Speaker 6: I was invited to something that was a round table
4:13
Speaker 6: for education leaders to talk about a project that the
4:17
Speaker 6: White House has put out that's called a Compact for Education.
4:20
Speaker 5: Okay, and what is that?
4:22
Speaker 6: So the White House has asked higher education for several things,
4:27
Speaker 6: to be more affordable and transparent, to not discriminate, to
4:31
Speaker 6: support veterans, things that I think most people would generally
4:34
Speaker 6: agree with. But they've asked the higher education community for feedback.
4:38
Speaker 6: And I was the first community college president to be
4:42
Speaker 6: invited across the whole country. So there were eight of
4:45
Speaker 6: us yesterday and we sat with the Secretary of Education
4:48
Speaker 6: and talked about what we're doing at our schools. That's
4:51
Speaker 6: wonderful and she'll take that back as feedback and revise
4:54
Speaker 6: the compact accordingly.
4:55
Speaker 5: What did you hear from the other colleges, Because you know,
4:58
Speaker 5: there's nothing like a little networking doctors ACKs you well
5:00
Speaker 5: now and learning one learning from each other. What did
5:04
Speaker 5: you pick up from the other college presidents or college officials?
5:07
Speaker 6: Two things that I thought were really cool. Florida has
5:10
Speaker 6: this website called my Florida Futures, and there were really
5:13
Speaker 6: trying hard to be transparent about what are the jobs
5:17
Speaker 6: that tie back to which majors so, and it's well visited.
5:21
Speaker 6: Lots of students use it to make college going decisions.
5:24
Speaker 6: So if you're thinking, gosh, I want to be a
5:26
Speaker 6: machinist at Toyota, recognizing that the way you get there
5:29
Speaker 6: is going through bridge valleys, Advanced Manufacturing Technician program is
5:33
Speaker 6: really important and it's something that Florida has been very
5:37
Speaker 6: transparent about. So I thought that was meat and something
5:39
Speaker 6: that we might want to copy. And I also thought
5:42
Speaker 6: Texas State Technical College had some really interesting tuition models.
5:46
Speaker 6: They actually do variable tuition by program, So if you're
5:50
Speaker 6: going into a program like nursing, the tuition is higher
5:53
Speaker 6: than if you're going into a program like social work
5:56
Speaker 6: because it's more expensive to offer a nursing program, and
6:00
Speaker 6: you also make better wages as a nurse than you
6:02
Speaker 6: do as a social worker. But we need both of
6:04
Speaker 6: those programs to fill the jobs that exist.
6:06
Speaker 5: You're and one other present right about that, And again
6:09
Speaker 5: I guess I hadn't thought about it when you first
6:11
Speaker 5: began that. I was thinking, well, why is one more
6:13
Speaker 5: expensive than the other. But there's more stuff involved, I guess.
6:16
Speaker 5: I mean not the social works not important, do not
6:18
Speaker 5: get me wrong, especially in West Virginia, and we know
6:20
Speaker 5: about the crisis of a lack of social workers we have.
6:22
Speaker 5: But you got to have more hands on stuff with nursing.
6:27
Speaker 6: That's right. I mean, we have a whole hot we
6:28
Speaker 6: have a three million dollar hospital wing that goes along
6:31
Speaker 6: with the nursing program, and it's still a lot of
6:32
Speaker 6: hands on learning. So it's just a very different program delivery.
6:37
Speaker 5: You mentioned Toyota. The announcement was made earlier this week
6:41
Speaker 5: by the officials of Toyota that they're going to be
6:43
Speaker 5: doing a nationwide expansion of many many things, and of
6:46
Speaker 5: course the big plan over in Buffalo and Putnam County
6:49
Speaker 5: is going to be a big recipient of that. They're
6:51
Speaker 5: going to be hiring more people to come in and
6:54
Speaker 5: it's a multimillion dollar expansion that they're doing there. Talk
6:57
Speaker 5: about Bridge Valley's involvement with.
7:01
Speaker 6: So we hold a program that's called FAME here at
7:03
Speaker 6: Bridge Valley. It's the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education. Toyota
7:08
Speaker 6: and lots of other manufacturers in the area. Service Wires
7:12
Speaker 6: also doing a gigantic expansion right now. They all need talent.
7:16
Speaker 6: They're all trying to hire people who have a similar
7:19
Speaker 6: skill set. So the great thing about the FAME program
7:22
Speaker 6: and that federation is that they've collectively said, we want
7:25
Speaker 6: to hire people together and not compete against each other
7:28
Speaker 6: to try and steal workers. So they've all agreed to
7:31
Speaker 6: the same kind of training. And what that means for
7:33
Speaker 6: a learner is you go through one training program and
7:36
Speaker 6: you would be qualified for jobs at any one of
7:38
Speaker 6: the manufacturing partners.
7:39
Speaker 5: I mean, and you talked about this before. Again, we're
7:41
Speaker 5: talking with doctor Casey Sacks, a Bridge Valley Community of
7:43
Speaker 5: Technical College, and you talked.
7:44
Speaker 3: About this before.
7:45
Speaker 5: The amount of people and that partnership that Bridge Valley
7:47
Speaker 5: has with Toyota and people goes. I mean, and you
7:50
Speaker 5: talked about this before. Again, we're talking with doctor Casey Sacks,
7:52
Speaker 5: a Bridge Valley Community of Technical College, and you talked.
7:55
Speaker 3: About this before.
7:55
Speaker 5: The amount of people and that partnership that Bridge Valley
7:58
Speaker 5: has with Toyota and people goes to these programs. I
8:00
Speaker 5: mean Toyota and other manufacturers too, not just Toyota, You're
8:03
Speaker 5: chomping at the bit to get these students of all
8:07
Speaker 5: ages that have gone to Bridge Valley through these technical
8:09
Speaker 5: program They want the people and they want to put
8:11
Speaker 5: them to work.
8:12
Speaker 6: It's right any really, when I talk to my friends
8:14
Speaker 6: who have kids who are thinking about college, or when
8:17
Speaker 6: I talk to adults who are thinking about career switching,
8:20
Speaker 6: if you have any technical inclination at all, I strongly
8:24
Speaker 6: suggest going through the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program. It's the
8:28
Speaker 6: program that leads to the best entry level wages of
8:30
Speaker 6: anything that we offer at the college. And they're really
8:33
Speaker 6: great jobs, and the manufacturers are largely wonderful employers in
8:38
Speaker 6: the region. So it's I can't say enough nice things
8:40
Speaker 6: about them.
8:41
Speaker 5: You've done. So, you guys have been doing something called
8:43
Speaker 5: mini grants.
8:44
Speaker 3: What's that?
8:45
Speaker 6: So one of the things we talked the last couple
8:47
Speaker 6: of times you and I saw each other, we talked
8:49
Speaker 6: about students who are using snap and just how much
8:53
Speaker 6: need there is in the community, and that that's true
8:56
Speaker 6: with students too. So we've started. We've had a number
8:59
Speaker 6: of donors give us just small amounts of money, but
9:02
Speaker 6: what that it can be game changing for students. So
9:05
Speaker 6: we've had a number of students apply to our foundation
9:07
Speaker 6: to say they need car repairs to be able to
9:10
Speaker 6: stay in school, or could we just help them with
9:12
Speaker 6: gas or food or utilities. And so we've started doing
9:15
Speaker 6: mini grants for students as part of the Thanksgiving season
9:19
Speaker 6: to just help them be able to stay in school.
9:21
Speaker 6: We want them to get through the semester and be
9:23
Speaker 6: able to start a new semester and be okay and
9:27
Speaker 6: have their families be okay. So so far we've given
9:29
Speaker 6: forty out to students and their average is about one
9:32
Speaker 6: hundred and fifty dollars. But when you talk to students
9:35
Speaker 6: who have received them, it just makes such a huge difference.
9:38
Speaker 6: If you've had a flat tire and you can't afford
9:40
Speaker 6: to pay for it, it doesn't matter if it's one
9:42
Speaker 6: hundred dollars or a million dollars if you don't have
9:45
Speaker 6: the money.
9:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, and sometimes when we think about doctor Sachs about
9:48
Speaker 5: helping students, we think about, you know, the materials they
9:52
Speaker 5: need in the classroom, and that's a big part of it.
9:53
Speaker 5: But I mean, it's really a shame for somebody that's
9:56
Speaker 5: wanting to better themselves, whether they're a young person or
9:58
Speaker 5: older person or whatever. But they can't make it to
10:00
Speaker 5: class for and so many things are available online. We
10:02
Speaker 5: get that, but sometimes you do need that hands on
10:05
Speaker 5: because when you talk about manufacturing and nursing, I mean
10:07
Speaker 5: only so much of it you can do online. You've
10:09
Speaker 5: got to have hands on. And it's a shame because
10:13
Speaker 5: we hear it all the time. Well, they couldn't make it.
10:14
Speaker 5: They had to drop out because they didn't have reliable transportation,
10:18
Speaker 5: or because they couldn't afford their power bill, they couldn't
10:21
Speaker 5: afford their internet bill, or things of that nature. So
10:24
Speaker 5: it's a great program. You got Spring registration coming up
10:29
Speaker 5: right We.
10:29
Speaker 6: Do if you or someone in your family is thinking
10:32
Speaker 6: about making a change, or you're really looking to get
10:35
Speaker 6: some new training or a new job. Spring registration is
10:40
Speaker 6: going on right now, and I would really encourage you
10:42
Speaker 6: to sign up. Our classes start January twelfth, so it's
10:46
Speaker 6: perfect timing if you're thinking about having your life be different.
10:49
Speaker 5: All right, It's always a pleasure to talk to you,
10:51
Speaker 5: doctor Casey Sachs, a Bridge Valley Community and Technical College.
10:53
Speaker 5: I but don't talk to you. Have yourself a great Thanksgiving,
10:56
Speaker 5: keep doing good stuff out there.
10:57
Speaker 6: Thank you, Dave, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy thanks Giving to
11:00
Speaker 6: everybody listening.
11:01
Speaker 5: Indeed it is nine to eighteen. Coming up a little
11:04
Speaker 5: bit later on to the show again. Our third annual

11:23
Speaker 5: of the w VIRC Media people. They're providing our breakfast

11:27
Speaker 5: parking lot here, while supplies last, we've got coupons courtesy
11:31
Speaker 5: of Chick fil A that when you make a donation

11:36
Speaker 5: give you a coupon for a free meal. Curtesy of
11:39
Speaker 5: Chick fil A. That is why all supplies last, though,
11:41
Speaker 5: because remember we started this thing at seven this morning.
11:43
Speaker 5: So for all I when I last checked in about
11:46
Speaker 5: five before the hour that we still had some left.
11:49
Speaker 5: But if you wait till two or three o'clock this afternoon,
11:52
Speaker 5: we'll take the donations, but the free Chick fil A
11:54
Speaker 5: is probably not going to be around at that point,
11:56
Speaker 5: so try to get here a little bit early. We're
11:58
Speaker 5: going to talk to Jayson from Union Mission and he's
12:01
Speaker 5: out on the parking lot right now. Rob Reel, a
12:03
Speaker 5: couple of other personalities within the building are going to

16:09
Speaker 5: segments will be joined by whomever is available to come
16:11
Speaker 5: in here. I know Rob Reel, this is kind of
16:13
Speaker 5: his baby and yes, somebody asked me earlier does he
16:17
Speaker 5: have the turkey suit. Yes, he has the full turkey suit.
16:19
Speaker 5: I don't know if he's put the full Turkey suit
16:21
Speaker 5: on yet. He's going to be on with us on
16:24
Speaker 5: Metro News midday today and so state wide when we
16:28
Speaker 5: flip the switch and go to Metro News TV, people
16:32
Speaker 5: are going to be able to see Rob Reel in
16:34
Speaker 5: his Turkey suit. We'll have pictures, of course posted. Actually
16:37
Speaker 5: I think some are already posted on our various station website.
16:39
Speaker 5: So that's coming up a little bit, a little bit
16:42
Speaker 5: later on the show. I want to talk some Christmas
16:45
Speaker 5: right now. I know Thanksgiving is coming up, but we
16:47
Speaker 5: want to talk a little Christmas. Shan's on again from
16:48
Speaker 5: the City of salth Charleston joins us right now. Sean,
16:51
Speaker 5: good morning and welcome to the show.
16:52
Speaker 3: Good morning, thank you for having me today, and happy
16:54
Speaker 3: turkey drop. Yeah. Yeah, that's all us, what you guys
16:56
Speaker 3: are doing out here.
16:57
Speaker 5: You and I were talking about that off the air.
16:58
Speaker 5: I mean, we don't do that's not why we do
17:00
Speaker 5: it but for accolades. But you know somebody, you know
17:03
Speaker 5: when you come in and you talked about how awesome
17:05
Speaker 5: it was that. But you know, here's the thing, Sean,
17:08
Speaker 5: it's just our idea. You know, we don't. All we
17:11
Speaker 5: do is we just happened to have a nice circular
17:13
Speaker 5: It's not circular. Rob will collect me or he'll correct
17:15
Speaker 5: me on that we have a nice parking lot. Okay,
17:18
Speaker 5: we provide that, we provide the air. It's our listeners
17:21
Speaker 5: to do it. It's not us. I mean, we don't
17:22
Speaker 5: provide anything but the space and the air and the time.
17:25
Speaker 5: Our listeners are the people that come through.
17:27
Speaker 2: Yeah.
17:27
Speaker 10: And I just think anytime that you know, the community
17:30
Speaker 10: that can come together and kind of help others out,
17:32
Speaker 10: I just think it's a great thing and it just
17:33
Speaker 10: shows what we are about in this state.
17:36
Speaker 5: One percent. I told the story to you off the
17:38
Speaker 5: air and listeners have heard me tell. Two of the
17:40
Speaker 5: things that really stuck out to me was in the past,
17:45
Speaker 5: we had a lady that pulled up and she had
17:46
Speaker 5: a five dollar bill and she said, I wish I
17:49
Speaker 5: could do more, but this is all I have and
17:52
Speaker 5: she handed us a five dollar bill. I mean, how
17:55
Speaker 5: cool is that? And then did guys up in the
17:58
Speaker 5: Eastern Panhandle that drove from the Martinsburg area last year
18:03
Speaker 5: with a truckload of apples because they heard because Metro
18:06
Speaker 5: News covered it too, and of course we have, you know,
18:08
Speaker 5: a cluster of stations at Martinsburg. They said, we heard
18:11
Speaker 5: you guys talking about it on the network and they
18:14
Speaker 5: drove from Martinsburg with a box truck full of apples.
18:18
Speaker 5: It just said, here you go. And then they said, guys,
18:21
Speaker 5: you get to unload the apples. And apple apples are
18:24
Speaker 5: heavy shoan. Yeah, when they're in crates, you're you're a
18:27
Speaker 5: big muscular guy. We're a little little guy with a
18:29
Speaker 5: pot belly. Like man. It's kind of kind of difficult.
18:32
Speaker 5: But let's talk Christmas in South Charleston. I mean, I
18:35
Speaker 5: know we have several different activities going on small business
18:37
Speaker 5: Saturday Christmas parade, Christmas tree lightings. Where do you want
18:40
Speaker 5: to start?
18:41
Speaker 3: Yes, So we have a lot coming up.
18:42
Speaker 10: So starting November twenty ninths one business Saturday, we actually
18:46
Speaker 10: have our first annual Christmas Market at the South Charsan
18:49
Speaker 10: Farmers Market.
18:50
Speaker 3: We'll have live.
18:50
Speaker 10: Christmas trees, holiday decors, maple sir farm, fresh meats, eggs,
18:57
Speaker 10: hot hot chocolate, cookies for the kids. And Santa will
19:01
Speaker 10: be visiting every weekend as well.
19:03
Speaker 5: And that's all is a farmer's market. Yeah, what's your
19:05
Speaker 5: hours on that?
19:05
Speaker 3: When do you do there?
19:06
Speaker 10: So for the Christmas market will be Monday through Saturday
19:09
Speaker 10: nine am to six pm and then Sunday twelve pm
19:12
Speaker 10: to four pm.
19:12
Speaker 5: Okay, And what on the did you said Black Friday
19:16
Speaker 5: or Small Business Saurday? Missus started? What time we start
19:18
Speaker 5: that day? Nine am, the same time, same time? What
19:21
Speaker 5: else is going to be out there for? I mean,
19:22
Speaker 5: because I mean I'm blown away, Sean, every time that
19:26
Speaker 5: my wife and I are are frequent visitors to the
19:28
Speaker 5: farmers market, I'm blown away every time I go out
19:30
Speaker 5: there about all the stuff you have? What do you
19:31
Speaker 5: get special for Christmas?
19:33
Speaker 10: So the biggest thing is a Christmas trees. Grit's Farm
19:36
Speaker 10: will be supplying those issuears. Just shout out to Brad
19:39
Speaker 10: Grit with Grit's Farm and then every you know, every
19:43
Speaker 10: week and we'll have Santa Claus there to visit with
19:45
Speaker 10: the kids, and the Grinch is going to make some
19:47
Speaker 10: visits as well. And we got some pretty good events
19:51
Speaker 10: scheduled there as well for the Christmas Market, and.
19:54
Speaker 5: We'll have to have you on as you know, throughout
19:56
Speaker 5: the season because these things are always changing and you're
19:58
Speaker 5: adding things, taking things a way or whatever. And you know,
20:01
Speaker 5: how long has the Farmer's Market been open now? So
20:03
Speaker 5: trust only since May weekend? Yeah, Mother's Day weekend. Overall,
20:07
Speaker 5: how's the How's that?
20:09
Speaker 10: I have to get a shout out to the community
20:11
Speaker 10: for really for really showing their support. I mean, it's
20:14
Speaker 10: just been it's just been great. I mean, it's gone
20:16
Speaker 10: very well this year for our first year.
20:19
Speaker 5: I mean, and it's it's really nice if you've never been,
20:21
Speaker 5: take an opportunity to stop by because you know, you
20:24
Speaker 5: got plenty plenty of parking there and and you it's
20:28
Speaker 5: it's covered and it's and it is it's a you know,
20:32
Speaker 5: kind of a cliche to say there's a little bit
20:33
Speaker 5: of everything and something for everybody. Sean, but there literally
20:36
Speaker 5: is a little bit of everything's under.
20:37
Speaker 3: It really is.
20:38
Speaker 10: I mean for our first year, I mean we've had
20:40
Speaker 10: just just about a little bit of everything there that
20:43
Speaker 10: most farmers' markets have, and and even more. And you know,
20:47
Speaker 10: I think next year that you know, it's really going
20:50
Speaker 10: to grow and more.
20:51
Speaker 5: That a text here that says the farmers market is
20:53
Speaker 5: that rain or shine? Yes, okay, because you know a
20:57
Speaker 5: lot of it's covered, you know, so, I mean the
20:58
Speaker 5: majority of it is, so yeah, it is. It is
21:00
Speaker 5: rain or shine. All right. So let's talk about small
21:03
Speaker 5: business Saturday. You know, that's something that I feel very
21:07
Speaker 5: very passionate about, and we try to promote small businesses
21:10
Speaker 5: as best we can. And look, we're not hating on
21:12
Speaker 5: large businesses, but these large businesses employee a lot of
21:14
Speaker 5: West Virginians. We get that. But these mom and pop
21:16
Speaker 5: shops are the ones that are more likely to make
21:19
Speaker 5: donations when you come around and you say, hey, can
21:21
Speaker 5: we have something for our church or a little league
21:23
Speaker 5: or whatever, They're more likely to do that. And South
21:26
Speaker 5: Charleston has got a just an incredible selection of small businesses.
21:31
Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean you know, in South Ross's are such
21:33
Speaker 10: a divers diverse variety of eateries and shops and you know,
21:37
Speaker 10: things you won't find online. Yeah, so you know anytime
21:41
Speaker 10: you can shop local and kind of kind of like
21:43
Speaker 10: I want to what I what I like to say is,
21:46
Speaker 10: you know, small businesses that they're thriving than the communities thriving.
21:49
Speaker 10: So I mean, you know, those tax dollars are staying
21:52
Speaker 10: in the cities, you know, for the city's to be
21:53
Speaker 10: able to make public and perment projects and to go
21:56
Speaker 10: towards the city services. Because you know, South Rawston picks
21:59
Speaker 10: up twice a week.
22:02
Speaker 5: I don't know if anyone around here that does that.
22:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
22:05
Speaker 5: That's what I've always heard from my friends that live
22:07
Speaker 5: in South Charleston. They're all about it because they say,
22:09
Speaker 5: you know, South Charleston as far as services go, I
22:12
Speaker 5: mean just just can't be beaten. You guys just do
22:14
Speaker 5: it do a lot there. But that's because of the
22:17
Speaker 5: tax base that you have from these small businesses. And again,
22:20
Speaker 5: whether you're looking for books, you're looking for music, you're
22:24
Speaker 5: looking for as you said, the eateries, South Charleston's got
22:26
Speaker 5: a lot of.
22:26
Speaker 10: That, yes, Yeah, And then you know, shout out to
22:29
Speaker 10: the mayor too, because you know his his his biggest
22:32
Speaker 10: thing when he first came in was to make South
22:35
Speaker 10: Troston a business friendly place to come to. And you
22:38
Speaker 10: know he's done so many things like the he you know,
22:41
Speaker 10: he created the graduated tax system that they have in place,
22:46
Speaker 10: which allows new small businesses to come in and sort
22:49
Speaker 10: of lay that founda dation and you know, not had
22:51
Speaker 10: that burden to pay one hundred percent of taxes right
22:54
Speaker 10: at the gate, you know, and that allows for growth
22:56
Speaker 10: early on and the longevity.
22:59
Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, let's talk Christmas parades and lighting of
23:02
Speaker 5: trees and all that other stuff for Christmas.
23:04
Speaker 10: Yes, we have our Christmas tree light. The simmer fifth
23:06
Speaker 10: activities will start at five point thirty. You can visit
23:08
Speaker 10: with Sanna, get free cookies, hot cocoa, and then new
23:12
Speaker 10: this year, we're going to do a lighted golf cart
23:15
Speaker 10: caravan ride down D Street and all those proceeds go
23:19
Speaker 10: to the Mattox Potter Foundation. So you can register a
23:23
Speaker 10: golf cart through the CVB for twenty dollars or you
23:26
Speaker 10: can sponsor one through through our golf course for fifty
23:30
Speaker 10: dollars to come down on d street and ride through
23:34
Speaker 10: the caravan.
23:34
Speaker 5: Right, and we spent a lot of time talking with
23:36
Speaker 5: the family of Maddox Potter, you know mad Dog, you know,
23:39
Speaker 5: just a just a great young man that was taken
23:42
Speaker 5: away far too soon in his family. Has just gone
23:44
Speaker 5: above and beyond to try to try to help other
23:47
Speaker 5: families in that same situation. Yes, yeah, And so the
23:49
Speaker 5: lighting of the Christmas tree? What time again?
23:51
Speaker 3: The lighting?
23:52
Speaker 6: It?
23:52
Speaker 3: So the drone show will the drone show will start
23:54
Speaker 3: at six thirty.
23:55
Speaker 5: Oh you got to have the drone show?
23:56
Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, and then the tree lighting will start up
23:59
Speaker 10: price being around six forty five pm right after the
24:01
Speaker 10: drug show.
24:01
Speaker 5: All right. We had a textare so will you be
24:03
Speaker 5: bringing back the tradition of Santa arriving by helicopter?
24:06
Speaker 3: Not this year, but that may be some planes in
24:08
Speaker 3: the future.
24:09
Speaker 5: Okay, all right, I mean at one point, these drone
24:12
Speaker 5: shows just keep more and more popular and you're gonna
24:14
Speaker 5: probably see Santa in the sky at one point. Maybe
24:16
Speaker 5: Santa will fly drum yeah, yeah, yeah, it's all good.
24:19
Speaker 5: So we're talking to shan Z again from the City
24:21
Speaker 5: of South Charles about their Christmas stuffs. But Dave Alan
24:24
Speaker 5: show on five eighty live Rightchet a part by Hustan's Pizza.
24:26
Speaker 5: This month get a large eighteen inch Pemperoni pizza and
24:28
Speaker 5: an eight inch chocolate chip cookie twenty three ninety nine.
24:31
Speaker 5: Find your nearest Hustan's Pizza for delivery Dina or pickup
24:33
Speaker 5: at Huston's Pizza dot com. Let's talk about the Christmas pread.
24:36
Speaker 10: Yeah, so that's going to be December sixth at noon
24:39
Speaker 10: on D Street. So bring the whole family out and
24:43
Speaker 10: come and celebrate the holidays with us.
24:45
Speaker 5: That is always big and all of our stations are
24:47
Speaker 5: you know, always involved in that. And you it amazes me.
24:52
Speaker 5: I'm usually either with our sister Station's ninety eight seven
24:54
Speaker 5: a month and or I'm driving, you know, with whs here.
24:57
Speaker 5: It always amazes me the amount of people that you
25:00
Speaker 5: get in a small area. And you got to as
25:03
Speaker 5: somebody driving the vehicles as all of us are got
25:06
Speaker 5: to be really really careful too.
25:08
Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, you know, safety is a big part
25:11
Speaker 10: of it. We do have some bayer case that are
25:13
Speaker 10: up that you know, prevents people from coming out in
25:15
Speaker 10: the road and stuff. But it's it's our biggest event
25:19
Speaker 10: end of the year. So again, bring the whole family. Out,
25:23
Speaker 10: come out and celebrate with us.
25:24
Speaker 5: And uh, I know we're talking about small businesses primarily,
25:27
Speaker 5: but of course I would be remiss. And last time
25:29
Speaker 5: we had Mayor Mullins on he talked about a little
25:31
Speaker 5: bit too. And that's the that's the the growth that's
25:33
Speaker 5: going on with the mall project out there. What can
25:35
Speaker 5: you tell us about that?
25:36
Speaker 10: Yeah, so kind of what you see now. You know,
25:38
Speaker 10: if you drive by now, you got the Kroaga Marketplace.
25:40
Speaker 10: They got the building up and they actually moved their
25:43
Speaker 10: start of their opening date.
25:45
Speaker 3: Up by a month.
25:46
Speaker 10: Okay, and when that fast now, it's going to be
25:49
Speaker 10: towards the end of next May.
25:51
Speaker 5: Next May, so open up. Yeah, I mean they have
25:53
Speaker 5: made the last time I drove through there, I thought
25:54
Speaker 5: about that, I said, Sean, they have made amazing progress
25:57
Speaker 5: on that.
25:57
Speaker 3: Yeah.
25:57
Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean it's crazy how fast they've got it up.
25:59
Speaker 10: And then you also see there's some construction going on
26:02
Speaker 10: now as well with seven other buildings I'm sorry, three
26:06
Speaker 10: other buildings that will house house three different businesses.
26:09
Speaker 5: All right, and again we had an announcement earlier this
26:11
Speaker 5: week about some high class chicken coming out there too,
26:14
Speaker 5: so we're all excited about that as well.
26:16
Speaker 3: We'll have games.
26:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, I've never had it, but I hear they called
26:19
Speaker 5: it what the article in the paper I think called
26:21
Speaker 5: it the Filet Mignon of chickens. Yeah, so we're looking.
26:24
Speaker 3: That's what they call it. Yeah.
26:25
Speaker 10: I think there's only one in the state right now.
26:26
Speaker 10: It's up in Morgantown, Okay, all right, so we'll be
26:28
Speaker 10: looking forward to that.
26:29
Speaker 5: All right. So again let's kind of recap here before
26:31
Speaker 5: we let you go. We've hit a lot of information
26:33
Speaker 5: here about Christmas and South Charleston, and we'll have you
26:35
Speaker 5: in the mayor on you know, a couple of times
26:36
Speaker 5: between now and then, but hit the important dates again
26:39
Speaker 5: in times just like it did.
26:40
Speaker 3: Yeah.
26:40
Speaker 10: So the Christmas Market will start on the twenty ninth
26:44
Speaker 10: and run through the twenty first. The tree lighting it's
26:47
Speaker 10: the Sember fifth. Activities start at five point thirty. The
26:51
Speaker 10: Christmas Parade it's the Sember six at twelve pm down
26:54
Speaker 10: on D Street.
26:55
Speaker 5: All right. And information available on social media.
26:58
Speaker 3: Charsting dot com website, facebook page.
27:00
Speaker 5: All right, Sean Zonia, it's always pleasure to have you here.
27:03
Speaker 5: Have a great great thanksgiving you two hey, and remember
27:06
Speaker 5: if you on your way out, if you hang out
27:07
Speaker 5: out here, they're probably going to put you to work
27:09
Speaker 5: out there, so that's okay, So all right, well good,
27:12
Speaker 5: just tell them just I love to help. Just say, look,
27:13
Speaker 5: I couldn't. I couldn't get out of there.
27:15

Speaker 5: go back after the break on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

29:24
Speaker 7: Seasons are changing, the kids are back in school, and
29:27
Speaker 7: cooler weather is on the way. But one thing that
29:30
Speaker 7: always remains consistent is the car buying experience at Walker
29:34
Speaker 7: Chevrolet in Nitro. You see, that's because Gene and Ryan
29:37
Speaker 7: built their business the old fashioned way by making friends.
29:40
Speaker 7: There are no gimmicks or games at Walker, just honest,
29:43
Speaker 7: fair deals, and the process at Walker is remarkably simple.
29:47
Speaker 3: They help you find a vehicle that you love and
29:50
Speaker 3: a deal that makes you smile.
29:51
Speaker 7: And don't forget, Walker is still buying cars too now
29:54
Speaker 7: All makes and models are welcome, and they'll give you
29:57
Speaker 7: top dollar for it, even if you plan to buy somewhere.
30:00
Speaker 3: But why would you.
30:01
Speaker 7: You know, it's good to know that in a world
30:03
Speaker 7: full of constant change, there are some things that remain consistent,
30:06
Speaker 7: and that some car dealers still believe in treating you
30:09
Speaker 7: like a friend with a smile and a HANDSHAKEE head
30:12
Speaker 7: to Walker Chevrolet and Nitro in the shadow of the
30:15
Speaker 7: Interstate Bridge, just off the Nitro exit of I sixty four.
30:19
Speaker 7: Walker Chevrolet making friends, one deal at a time, no clue.
30:43
Speaker 5: I just having fun with the Here we go. I
30:46
Speaker 5: was having fun with Shock through ninety eight to seven.
30:48

30:50
Speaker 5: him extra points if he can name that particular artist.

30:56
Speaker 5: Sized Rosewood Bed. It's the name of thats got to
30:59
Speaker 5: tell you?
30:59
Speaker 3: If it was Uneasy Rider, you were thrown out?
31:02
Speaker 5: Can you can you guess who put that? I pick
31:04
Speaker 5: out the own the bumper music for my show. Who
31:06
Speaker 5: else is gonna do? Charlie Daniels before the Devil went
31:08
Speaker 5: down to Georgia. Right, It's but I still miss the
31:12
Speaker 5: wrestling stuff though it's still in there. It'll rotate from
31:15
Speaker 5: time to time. I've got so you though I've got
31:17
Speaker 5: the the old World Championship Wrestling theme on rotation. I
31:21
Speaker 5: think I've got that, uh and I have I have
31:25
Speaker 5: got Stark Stark Stark.
31:30
Speaker 2: Hey.

31:43
Speaker 5: I felt for the have a seat, Jenny, I fell
31:46
Speaker 5: for that three times. I'm not falling forward again. All right,
31:48
Speaker 5: love of Annuel Turkey Drop going on as we speak.
31:50
Speaker 5: Rob Real from Superstar Country ninety six one k wus
31:53
Speaker 5: Jason Coatrel's here, Jenny Murray from V. One hundred, shockly
31:56
Speaker 5: from ninety eight to seven. Roberts, you're up first, uh seven,

32:09
Speaker 5: Hand us some frozen turkeys or some cash or a
32:11
Speaker 5: check or we've got a QR code you can scan
32:13
Speaker 5: if you want to do credit cards, but we are

Speaker 5: putting turkeys on tables. We are feeding folks this holiday season.
32:19
Speaker 5: Every family deserves a happy holiday meal, and we've already
32:22
Speaker 5: had folks making that happen. If we're not over sixty
32:25
Speaker 5: on turkeys already, I mean we just started at seven.
32:28
Speaker 5: That's that's pretty good. Jenny Murray, that's pretty good stuff.
32:31
Speaker 13: That is good stuff.
32:32
Speaker 11: We did have a lady send us a text to
32:35
Speaker 11: say I just dropped off two birds for you, two turkeys.
32:39
Speaker 1: There you go.
32:41
Speaker 5: See what she did there? Yeah, I know I like it.
32:43
Speaker 3: Big shout out to surf Pro.
32:45
Speaker 5: They brought us twenty twenty when Tim showed up this morning,
32:49
Speaker 5: and lots of folding money so far this morning.
32:52
Speaker 3: It doesn't get any better because now Steve Animal's coming in.
32:56
Speaker 5: Jason, let's talk.
32:58
Speaker 3: Let's talk about from your perspective house.
33:00
Speaker 14: This has been an amazing morning. Like like Rob was saying,
33:04
Speaker 14: we've had car after car come around the loop either
33:07
Speaker 14: give us some green handshake yeah, or drop off undshake
33:12
Speaker 14: yeah and frozen.
33:14
Speaker 3: Yeah.
33:15
Speaker 14: We've been getting the bird a lot this morning.
33:19
Speaker 3: Right now.
33:19
Speaker 5: Big shout out to our friends at Chick fil A,
33:22
Speaker 5: Tom Menturn, Chris. We had them on the studio yesterday.
33:25
Speaker 5: There they're not only feeding us, which we appreciate, but
33:28
Speaker 5: they're also we We are giving away some free certificate
33:32
Speaker 5: Swath supplies last to people that donate turkeys. Rob talking
33:34
Speaker 5: about that. Every time you come through, we will hand
33:37
Speaker 5: you a little card for some free Chick fil A.
33:39
Speaker 5: Tom has always been a great partner with us, doing
33:41
Speaker 5: lots of things like on ninety six to one k
33:43
Speaker 5: WUS we do our free lunch Friday Hero Edition where
33:46
Speaker 5: we get to honor folks and they are always Tom
33:49
Speaker 5: and Tim and Felicia and Kayla and catering. They's all
33:53
Speaker 5: first to jump on board. Hey we got a drop
33:55
Speaker 5: event coming. Oh yeah, we're ready to go. We're ready
33:58
Speaker 5: to feed you. So Chick fil A always great community partners.
34:01
Speaker 5: Indeed indeed one hundred percent. Steve Animal ninety eight seven
34:03
Speaker 5: a mountain wild, wonderful class and Crockets here. How you doing,
34:06
Speaker 5: I'm good. I'm good.
34:07
Speaker 15: We've had some, like you said, some great green cash donations.
34:10
Speaker 15: My friend Jean and Rick making sure they hunted me
34:14
Speaker 15: down last night, like bring this to the Union mission
34:17
Speaker 15: and where and where were you last night's team? I
34:19
Speaker 15: was over at Chuckers.
34:20
Speaker 5: Believe I'll be darn Guy's blue waters, wet animals at shuckers, shockers,
34:25
Speaker 5: twist my arms. Animal is an animal is a very
34:28
Speaker 5: renowned mu magician. People don't know this. He can go
34:30
Speaker 5: into any town in America and turn into a bar.
34:33
Speaker 5: I have also found that he can make women disappear.
34:41
Speaker 11: Like mine.
34:41
Speaker 3: Seems well, we.
34:43
Speaker 5: Have fun, but again the bottom line is here, we're
34:45
Speaker 5: trying to feed people.
34:46
Speaker 15: That's what It's been a great day so far, going
34:48
Speaker 15: till six o'clock tonight, eleven eleven Virginia Street.
34:51
Speaker 3: Here, it is going to be a good day. The
34:53
Speaker 3: idea that we can goof around with our friends on
34:54
Speaker 3: a parking lot is.
34:55
Speaker 5: Is it easier than Yeah? On kind of a raw
34:59
Speaker 5: day like this, you don't even have to get out
35:01
Speaker 5: of your nice warm vehicle, so especially you got like
35:03
Speaker 5: the heated seats and the heated steering wheel.
35:05
Speaker 3: You just roll up and say it's in the backfellers,
35:07
Speaker 3: and we will grab it.
35:08
Speaker 5: Had somebody roll up with it was five turkeys in
35:11
Speaker 5: the back hat just a little bit ago, so I
35:13
Speaker 5: think we're over sixty.
35:16
Speaker 14: The one lady that pulled in and said, hey, I've
35:18
Speaker 14: got a couple of turkeys in the back, and we
35:19
Speaker 14: opened the hatch and there was thirteen turkeys.
35:22
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome. So we did one twenty seven in turkeys.
35:26
Speaker 5: Last year, we did five thousand in financial contributions. We
35:29
Speaker 5: would love to eclipse that this year. It's been a
35:31
Speaker 5: rough year for a lot of folks and we're not
35:34
Speaker 5: going to go down that shut down road and snap again.
35:36
Speaker 3: But it's been extra tough this year.
35:38
Speaker 5: So I would love to eclipse those numbers if we could. Jenny,
35:41
Speaker 5: let me bring you back in here for just a moment.
35:43
Speaker 5: Please please, We already did that, jo We already did
35:47
Speaker 5: that joke. Please tell me that they have other females
35:49
Speaker 5: out there with you, and you're not out there with
35:50
Speaker 5: a bunch of ruffians. I know they're here somewhere, but
35:53
Speaker 5: they're probably they probably keeping us in line. Who do
35:55
Speaker 5: you think stept Us out just say so far. I
35:57
Speaker 5: know Stephanie, our producer of Metro News Midday, was out there,
35:59
Speaker 5: and I think Bobby's I.
36:00
Speaker 3: Was up there, bub bub bub bub and June.
36:03
Speaker 5: I hope we have some more people out there. But okay,
36:05
Speaker 5: I'll go wrangle up the ladies. No, but but but
36:09
Speaker 5: I mean this is kind of this is kind of
36:11
Speaker 5: what we do around here.
36:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, we do.
36:13
Speaker 11: And it's uh, you know, we we absolutely I mean,
36:16
Speaker 11: we're out there, but it's the people that come by.
36:20
Speaker 5: All we are doing is really is providing the time
36:22
Speaker 5: and the space. It's our listeners that are doing all
36:24
Speaker 5: the work. We're the pie pipers. Yeah, that's who we are.
36:27
Speaker 11: And what an easy way to help your neighbors through
36:31
Speaker 11: you know, a great partner that we have and you
36:34
Speaker 11: guys really do all the heavy lifting for us as
36:36
Speaker 11: far as the distribution. But you know, we we know
36:39
Speaker 11: people are out there and they're having a tough time
36:42
Speaker 11: and this is just a real simple way to help
36:45
Speaker 11: them have a decent Thanksgiving.
36:47
Speaker 5: And how does a distribution go? Jason Jason Wore from
36:50
Speaker 5: Union Mission. How does that?
36:50
Speaker 3: How does how does the actual distribution go? He flies
36:53
Speaker 3: a helicopter over and no, we just drop it.
36:56
Speaker 14: Yeah, three turkeys Saturday morning. Each family will receive two
37:02
Speaker 14: boxes of stuffing, two boxes of mac and cheese, twelve
37:04
Speaker 14: cans and drinks, and a dessert with a fifteen sixteen
37:07
Speaker 14: pound turkey.
37:08
Speaker 5: Now, how do they get in the running?
37:10
Speaker 3: From me?
37:10
Speaker 14: In the last month and a half, we've been doing
37:12
Speaker 14: sign ups.
37:13
Speaker 5: Okay, Thanksgiving distribution Okay, and that's one of the things
37:17
Speaker 5: about that is is that always and whenever we do this,
37:20
Speaker 5: this third year we've done this, I always can can't
37:23
Speaker 5: get over the fact. Thank you, Jennymury, she's got to
37:25
Speaker 5: go back to work now, Thank you, Jenny. I can't
37:27
Speaker 5: get over the fact that you have such a quick turnaround,
37:31
Speaker 5: you know, because we're collecting these turkeys till six o'clock
37:34
Speaker 5: tonight and you're going to have them all boxed up
37:35
Speaker 5: ready to go by Saturday morning.
37:36
Speaker 14: I promise you. We do this at Bible Center and
37:38
Speaker 14: they have this down to an art. We'll start at
37:42
Speaker 14: nine o'clock in the morning, they'll be done by eleven.
37:44
Speaker 5: Right, It's unbelievable. And again, like I said, Robin, you
37:49
Speaker 5: know this. You you two we talked about this on
37:52
Speaker 5: yesterday's show. I think you two have worked in other states.
37:56
Speaker 5: It's not like this everywhere. It is not like this everywhere.
37:59
Speaker 5: The giving that West Virginians do for West Virginians, the
38:02
Speaker 5: efficiency Jason was just talking about. You know, I've got
38:05
Speaker 5: a background in economics, so I'm always watching for, you know,
38:09
Speaker 5: as little waste as possible. How can we turn things
38:11
Speaker 5: around fast? How can we make things easy and just
38:16
Speaker 5: the number of people it takes to get these families fed,
38:20
Speaker 5: but the number of people it takes to come through
38:22
Speaker 5: our parking lot and give us the turkeys and the
38:25
Speaker 5: contributions we need to get those people fed. I am
38:29
Speaker 5: never surprised, but I'm always astounded by what West Virginians
38:34
Speaker 5: will do for West Virginias. I'm always amazed too, that
38:39
Speaker 5: how quickly people respond. I mean, because we start, I
38:42
Speaker 5: wasn't here at seven. I got here about seven thirty.
38:44
Speaker 5: But at seven o'clock. What time did the first turkey
38:46
Speaker 5: roll in? But actually before But enough about Bobbi's fry,
38:52
Speaker 5: all right, but what time was it was before? It
38:54
Speaker 5: was before seven. Yeah, we didn't even have the turkey
38:57
Speaker 5: fully inflated. If you've been to our parking let you know.
39:00
Speaker 5: But you'll see it when when you turn in. Yeah, Tom,
39:02
Speaker 5: turkey wasn't even fully inflated yet. And we had the
39:05
Speaker 5: first bird in the back of the Union mission truck.
39:07
Speaker 5: That's awesome.
39:07
Speaker 3: That's what we do.
39:08
Speaker 5: Bobby Spry is with us right now. How are you doing, Bobby,
39:11
Speaker 5: Good morning.
39:11
Speaker 16: I'm just trying to get warm from being out. It
39:14
Speaker 16: is a little a little cool, but it could be worse,
39:15
Speaker 16: it could be January collecting and.
39:20
Speaker 5: That'll be the next big thing that we'll be doing.
39:22
Speaker 5: Talk about the involvement of the corporate into this, because again,
39:25
Speaker 5: you know, our listeners are the greatest people in the world.
39:28
Speaker 5: But anytime that we reach out Bobby to our corporate
39:32
Speaker 5: friends and we say whether it's a Chick fil A,
39:34
Speaker 5: whether it's Serve Pro or Applectic Power, whatever, they say, yeah,
39:36
Speaker 5: sign us up. Talk about that well.
39:39
Speaker 16: I think we are lucky enough to have a lot
39:41
Speaker 16: of clients who find the men's importance of giving back
39:45
Speaker 16: to the community and helping where they can. So I
39:47
Speaker 16: have a lot of clients who don't necessarily need to advertise,
39:50
Speaker 16: but they always say, hey, if you have a community
39:52
Speaker 16: event coming up, please reach out to us because we
39:55
Speaker 16: would love to help.
39:56
Speaker 5: And some of those folks are here. I know Tim
39:57
Speaker 5: from Serve Pro's ibums out here. Tim and I've been
40:00
Speaker 5: friends for a number of years. I was talking to
40:01
Speaker 5: Tim out there a little bit earlier. We have several,
40:03
Speaker 5: uh several of our of our folks that are on
40:05
Speaker 5: hand here.
40:06
Speaker 2: Rob.
40:06
Speaker 5: We were talking a little bit earlier outside about companies
40:09
Speaker 5: don't have feelings, but people do. And these companies, these
40:15
Speaker 5: big names that you know and that you'll hear over
40:17
Speaker 5: and over, surf Pro and app Co and Chick fil A.
40:21
Speaker 5: They're run by people, and in our case, they are
40:23
Speaker 5: run by the same sort of West Virginians who have
40:26
Speaker 5: that giving spirit to help our friends and neighbors. All right,
40:30
Speaker 5: So it's going on till six o'clock tonight on our
40:33
Speaker 5: parking lot eleven eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston. You
40:36
Speaker 5: can run over, you know. I always give a big
40:38
Speaker 5: shout out to Pigley Wiggily because they're they're the sponsors
40:40
Speaker 5: of our hotline here. But that's not your story. You
40:43
Speaker 5: can go to another one. Everybody's pretty much got turkey's
40:46
Speaker 5: marked down at this point. They're flying right now. They're
40:49
Speaker 5: they're flying off the shelves right now. What a foul joke.
40:52
Speaker 5: But uh uh, But so go get a turkey, even
40:55
Speaker 5: if you can't, you know, do a turkey. We'll take
40:57
Speaker 5: cash donations, sweat through the ATM at lunch. Yeah, folding
41:00
Speaker 5: money always works, all right, Bobby.
41:02
Speaker 16: Yeah, I just want to say, if every business owner
41:05
Speaker 16: in Charleston dropped off just one turkey, we would have
41:08
Speaker 16: enough to feed the three hundred families who have signed
41:11
Speaker 16: up to receive a Thanksgiving meal. So I am challenging you.
41:13
Speaker 16: Please don't make me call you out by name, because
41:16
Speaker 16: she will. I will pick up a turkey or drop
41:20
Speaker 16: off a check. Tara Martinez came up. She dropped off
41:23
Speaker 16: a two hundred and fifty dollars check donation, and we
41:25
Speaker 16: are able to use that to buy more turkeys defeed
41:27
Speaker 16: families this Thanksgiving all right til.
41:29
Speaker 5: Six o'clock tonight, TJ Meadows, did you want to add
41:31
Speaker 5: to this?
41:32
Speaker 6: He?
41:32
Speaker 5: TJ just walked in. I figured he wanted something. I
41:34
Speaker 5: just wanted to see if you would acknowledge me. Everybody
41:36
Speaker 5: else walked in and got acknowledged.
41:38
Speaker 3: I was just kind of.
41:38
Speaker 5: Curious if that's how it works. Well, I figured you
41:40
Speaker 5: wanted something so but no, so he wants your chair
41:44
Speaker 5: in about the twelve minutes. No, TJ. Let me ask
41:46
Speaker 5: you because you know you're a West Virginian too, Bobby,
41:49
Speaker 5: thank you very much. You are a West Virginian. You
41:52
Speaker 5: know what we do here about giving back, It's just
41:56
Speaker 5: something that's bred into you. I think you grow up here,
41:59
Speaker 5: and if you didn't grow up here, we breed it
42:01
Speaker 5: into you. Once you get here. It's just the way
42:03
Speaker 5: that we are. We take care of our own and
42:05
Speaker 5: I think we've always had to, right, so it's become
42:07
Speaker 5: something that we've adapted to over the years. I'm gonna
42:10
Speaker 5: be there on Saturday for the distribution with my kids.
42:13
Speaker 5: That's something that we do every year and my kids
42:16
Speaker 5: so look forward to that. And it's about the opportunity
42:18
Speaker 5: to start to teach your kids. Sometimes folks are less
42:21
Speaker 5: fortunate than you are. This is how we give back.
42:23
Speaker 3: This is what we do.
42:24
Speaker 5: We talk about it, we talk about it takes a village, yes,
42:27
Speaker 5: and we really are living the village mentality still in
42:30

48:14
Speaker 5: do West Virginia residents have to protect themselves from ice
48:17
Speaker 5: breaking their car windows and doing illegal acts? Do we
48:20
Speaker 5: have the right to defend ourselves in these cases? Would
48:22
Speaker 5: like to know this? Well, I don't know, other than
48:25
Speaker 5: contact an attorney. That's only thing I can say about that.
48:27
Speaker 5: And I is that actually going on in West Virginia.
48:30
Speaker 5: I'm not saying it's not not saying it is. I
48:31
Speaker 5: don't know, but at my thing would be, you know,
48:34
Speaker 5: you contact an attorney. You've got plenty of them around here.
48:39
Speaker 5: Coming up later today a metroduce Midday with thirteen News
48:41
Speaker 5: and Tonight Live anchor Meddamaran and Me. West Virginia Secretary said,
48:45
Speaker 5: Chris Warner is going to stop buy Hoppy Kerchieval the
48:48
Speaker 5: world at Traveler Hoppy Kerchievell. He has got a new
48:51
Speaker 5: commentary which you can read out on the website wv
48:53
Speaker 5: Metronews dot com. You may have heard it on you
48:55
Speaker 5: drive in this morning. He is going to join us
48:58
Speaker 5: on the show. He's gonna talk about the commentary on
49:00
Speaker 5: talk line, but he's going to join us to talk
49:02
Speaker 5: about the new State of Minds that just dropped on
49:05
Speaker 5: Metro News Television. It's a sit down, long form interview
49:08
Speaker 5: that he and Tony Careedy and others along the network
49:10
Speaker 5: do and so Hobby's doing it this month. We'll talk
49:12
Speaker 5: to Hobby about that. Jeff Jenkins is here with the
49:14
Speaker 5: news form. Our legislator Chris Walters is going to stop
49:18
Speaker 5: buying the show today, as are the folks from the
49:20
Speaker 5: West Virginia Lottery. And of course we'll have more updates
49:22
Speaker 5: on Turkey Drop, which is continuing now on our parking
49:25
Speaker 5: lot here to eleven eleven Virginia Street. It's Charleston Metro
49:27
Speaker 5: News Midday with thirteen News and the night Live anchor
49:30
Speaker 5: Amanda baron Amy coming up at noon today powered by
49:32
Speaker 5: Selango Law. Now on the local show Tomorrow. This year's show,
49:36
Speaker 5: we're going to preview the area teams in the high
49:38
Speaker 5: school football playoffs. Also, Angie gillan Water from the Ganaal
49:40
Speaker 5: Charleston Humane Association is here with this week's Adopt Me
49:43
Speaker 5: Please pet of the Week. And I mentioned earlier that
49:46
Speaker 5: The Light the Nights gets underway tomorrow night over at
49:50
Speaker 5: Gomart Ballpark, and so Jill Garren and Andy Shay from
49:53
Speaker 5: the Dirty Birds along with Ben Silango are going to
49:55
Speaker 5: stop by to talk about that. Coming up on tomorrow's show. Again,
50:01
Speaker 5: says a Texter. Not one thing today political and Trump
50:04
Speaker 5: derangement syndrome suffers just have to text into wine again.
50:08
Speaker 5: Get out of the house, dude says It's could could
50:12
Speaker 5: be a dude at I don't know. All I see
50:15
Speaker 5: is a number lead's story. I'll get this in quick
50:17
Speaker 5: at the website this morning, wv Metronews dot com. After
50:20
Speaker 5: seventy years in business, Truth Pharmacy is selling out to Walgreens,
50:24
Speaker 5: and I did reach out to Lynnfruth, the owner, and
50:28
Speaker 5: they did put out a comment. She didn't respond, but
50:32
Speaker 5: but they did put a statement out which you can
50:34
Speaker 5: read that in its entirety at WV metro news dot com.
50:36
Speaker 5: I'll say this, it is sad, sad to see them go.
50:40
Speaker 5: And it's sad when any business that's been around as
50:42
Speaker 5: long as Fruth Pharmacy has nineteen fifty two to be exact,
50:45
Speaker 5: goes away, and you just lose more of your identity
50:49
Speaker 5: when businesses like that go away. And look, that is
50:52
Speaker 5: not a knock against Walgreens, CVS or any of those others.
50:56
Speaker 5: Not I know they employ a lot of West Virginian
50:59
Speaker 5: so that's not a knock again them. But in many cases,
51:02
Speaker 5: the smaller businesses like a fruit pharmacy just can't compete.
51:06
Speaker 5: It's it's it's sad, but go read the story WV
51:09
Speaker 5: Metronews dot com. TJ. Meadows is here. How you do it?
51:12
Speaker 13: Man?
51:13
Speaker 5: Capitalism unfortunately, and yeah, you and I are the kings
51:17
Speaker 5: of capitalism. I get that, but but some folks like
51:20
Speaker 5: like Len and the folks of Fruth feel like that
51:22
Speaker 5: there are things that are unfair about it and and
51:25
Speaker 5: I had Lynn on the show a couple of years ago.
51:27
Speaker 5: She was lobbying the legislature, trying to trying to even
51:30
Speaker 5: the playing field, if you will.
51:33
Speaker 8: From the time it is born. Just like every human,
51:35
Speaker 8: every business is dying. This is one of the things
51:38
Speaker 8: Jeff Bezos talks about. Disruption is something that's always been
51:43
Speaker 8: there today, but it's it's so much more prevalent today,
51:46
Speaker 8: and it happens so much more quickly, so much more timely,
51:50
Speaker 8: you know, the lifespan of businesses.
51:53
Speaker 3: It's unfortunate.
51:54
Speaker 5: I don't like it.
51:57
Speaker 8: I don't know that there's a better way. It's market efficiency.
51:59
Speaker 8: It's going to happen. That doesn't help anyone who is
52:02
Speaker 8: on the other end of it, but that that's the
52:05
Speaker 8: way the system works. And uh, you know, the next
52:09
Speaker 8: mouse trap will be coming after Walgreens and the larger chains.
52:14
Speaker 8: I mean, you've got guys like like Cuban Cuban who's
52:18
Speaker 8: out there with this cost plus dot ruban' Mark Cuban
52:21
Speaker 8: with this cost plus dot com deal where he can
52:24
Speaker 8: do it all online. I mean, it's always changing and
52:27
Speaker 8: that doesn't make it any better me saying that, But
52:29
Speaker 8: that's the way it is.
52:29
Speaker 5: Quick text pharmacies are about to sucks. It's the private
52:31
Speaker 5: equity firm that owns Walgreens is buying out its competitors.
52:34
Speaker 8: Private equities buying everything today, they're going more to Main
52:36
Speaker 8: Street than they are Wall Street.
52:38
Speaker 5: All right, what you got on the show today?
52:40
Speaker 8: Coming up ten oh six, we'll talk to Albert Wright
52:42
Speaker 8: wvu mess the president and CEO on that acquisition. A
52:45
Speaker 8: million nicely stops by. She's got a story this morning
52:47
Speaker 8: on homelessness. The numbers are just staggered.
