- 0:02This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me covering One Piece episodes
- 0:13three fifty seven No. Three fifty four, three fifty five, and three
- 0:19fifty six. I swear to go see him, Brooke and the Cape of
- 0:25Promise, Food, Nami and Shadows, Lufy's enraged counter attack, and Oosup's
- 0:34the strongest leave anything negative to him in these episodes. Well, Sanjie apparently
- 0:44has a new power that I don't know where it came from, but all
- 0:48right, sure why not? And Oosup has a power that we didn't know
- 0:54as a power. All along. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the
- 1:19show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to the One Piece
- 1:23crew for commissioning this episode. What's up, guys? I so you know
- 1:30this was another three episode I want to say three episode episode, but you
- 1:36know, you guys wanted me to cover three episodes today, and the first
- 1:38of the three episodes was almost only flashbacks, and sometimes you all know I
- 1:48can be kind of like, come on, but honestly, I remembered so
- 1:53much less of that storyline than I thought I did. I only remember that
- 2:00there is this whale that they run into, and that there's a dude living
- 2:04in there, and I had forgotten that the guy living inside the whale is
- 2:12like totally certain that the whale has been straight up abandoned on purpose, like
- 2:19they deliberately left it and didn't come back. And I pretty much like took
- 2:25his word on that during that episode because he acted so certain, But he
- 2:31doesn't say how he knows or where he'd got his information from. And I
- 2:37don't know if it's supposed to be like that. He had been on the
- 2:39crew and some like he wasn't one of them, I don't think. So
- 2:45it seems now that he was maybe just talking out of his ass, and
- 2:52I don't know if that was supposed to be that he's like trying to tell
- 2:57the whale the worst possible will scenario, just to like ease the blow so
- 3:04that if nobody comes back, he won't be surprised, even though it's very
- 3:10clear that he laboon is. I mean, it's been fifty years and he
- 3:17has not given up hope yet, So I don't see why he would think
- 3:23just telling him, trust me, they abandon you, they're not coming back
- 3:28would work When this is we're going into the sixth decade of him waiting I
- 3:35guess he's patient, so let's see. Florian says, Yeah, we did
- 3:40not have to talk too much about the flashbacks since we've been here. Yeah,
- 3:45that was the only thing that I was really curious about. I can't
- 3:47remember what he the thing that Lufy keeps calling him his flower head guy,
- 3:53but I don't recall the character's name. And I was sort of expecting as
- 4:00well, that he wind up being like part of the story with Brook,
- 4:05that we were going to find out flower head Guy new Brook or that like
- 4:11there was some kind of connection there, but it doesn't seem like there is.
- 4:15It seems like those are two completely different encounters that Laboon has had.
- 4:20So yeah, and I had forgotten also that Lufy basically just like starts beating
- 4:29the shit out of Laboon just because he can sense, as he puts it,
- 4:32when somebody wants a fight, which he turns out to be right.
- 4:36But initially I was just like, what is wrong with you? Why would
- 4:42you do this? You're just beating up on this poor sad whale that's all
- 4:46alone. But right the whale, I don't know. In my like memory's
- 4:50eye, I'm picturing there being some kind of signaling where the whale is know
- 5:00kind of asking, Hey, you wanna go play fisticuffs, you know how
- 5:05a whale would do, But uh, I didn't remember that. Like it's
- 5:10kind of the whale just being around and lufy, just being like, oh,
- 5:15I know this whalees after he was right as it turns out, but
- 5:20it feels very surprising to watch. Um oh, Brian says, Crocus is
- 5:31the Laboon guy. How did I not put together his flower guy in the
- 5:35name of a flowers a Crocus that I don't remember that at all? Did
- 5:41I make that connection the first time? I do not remember? Um let's
- 5:46see. Florian says, I think he heard a rumor that La Boon fell
- 5:49in battle, that the Laboon's crew fell in battle, which they kind of
- 5:55did, I mean if he did, though he doesn't. He doesn't say
- 6:01to Laboon in this flashback, Hey, Bud, I'm real sorry, but
- 6:06I heard that your whole crew was killed. He says they left him here
- 6:13because like basically, pirates ain't shit. Like he's kind of salty and snarky
- 6:20about it, as if these guys were having one over on Laboon and he
- 6:27couldn't stand to see this poor whale getting played You know, so it's a
- 6:30very different energy. If he heard they were dead, that's one thing.
- 6:35But if you if you think they're dead, why would you frame it to
- 6:41this kid? And I'm calling the whale a kid, and I stand by
- 6:44that, why would you frame it like, hey, they just don't care
- 6:48and left you here and they're not coming back. If you know, one
- 6:54of those is is something that's sort of verifiable by saying, oh, yeah,
- 7:00we heard that they were taken out at such and such and they nobody
- 7:03made it. But the other just being like, well, I'm pretty sure
- 7:08that they don't give a shit. But I don't know if I'm like because
- 7:13in the flashback, you know, they only show so much. So if
- 7:15he mentions hearing that they fell in battle in like from rumors or anything,
- 7:23it wasn't in the flashback. So all I know is what he says to
- 7:29Lofy that he has been telling Laboon. Oh, Brian says, well,
- 7:34I didn't know that crocus was a type of flower, So we both learned
- 7:38something new today. Smiley bays, Yeah, it's spelled differently. It's with
- 7:43seas instead of k's, but and it's not a flower that looks anything like
- 7:47the flower on his head, although I say that and I have to remember
- 7:51that, like you know, sometimes a very basic flower name will cover a
- 7:57really big spectrum. So it's possible that there is a crocus that looks like
- 8:01the one on his head, and I'm just thinking of I'm thinking of like
- 8:03a purple crocus that comes up in spring in like New England mostly, so
- 8:09maybe there is something in Japan that looks like the one that is on his
- 8:13head and that is their crocus. But anyway, okay, So I just
- 8:18wanted to recap on that because as much as I remembered Laboon and that whole
- 8:24thing was, like, I really kind of appreciated the flashbacks here because I
- 8:31genuinely did not recall. We get a little bit of like the and the
- 8:37thumbnail for this episode. You can see Brooke as a live dude who's like
- 8:45playing a fiddle for Laboon, and I will tell you what, guys,
- 8:50this dude looks like so much fun. He just looks like he's having a
- 8:52great time and he's just managed to like maintain that vibe to his post life
- 9:03personality. And that is pretty impressive because I don't feel that I would be
- 9:09as happy go lucky after experiencing the kinds of setbacks that he has. But
- 9:16really, what is one piece about if not the perseverance of the human spirit.
- 9:24So we have all of these flashbacks, and I want to mention every
- 9:28time that they do this, I get confused and think that I that the
- 9:37whole show has been like this, but I just didn't notice until now.
- 9:41When they do the flashbacks in this episode, it's not necessarily what they do
- 9:48in all of them, and I kind of think it must be because they're
- 9:50showing such a significant number of flashbacks that it takes up enough time that they
- 9:58felt like they really want wanted to underscore that this is like a whole other
- 10:05storyline that they're reminding us of. But they shrink the screen that has the
- 10:13actual flashbacks down and surround it with a frame that is like the first of
- 10:20all the like blue water, and then even further out the map around them,
- 10:26So it's like a really weird sort of frame that only comes up sometimes.
- 10:33I think what I said is why they do it when it's like a
- 10:37particularly large chunk of the episode. But I always get confused when I see
- 10:43it, and I'm like, is this like the way they they're putting the
- 10:48show on Funimation. Is that because it's like the aspect ratio is off,
- 10:52like what is going on? But anyway, so yeah, the crew is
- 11:00still talking about like the fact that brooke the coincidence of meeting him with them
- 11:07having met Laboon and you know, just what are the odds of that?
- 11:11And then we go because Zoro thinks to himself, I wonder what that skeleton's
- 11:18doing right now, and we go to him fighting the h I keep forgetting
- 11:26his name. I know you guys told me, but the like Samurai skeleton
- 11:30guy, and for once, he's actually kind of holding his own. He's
- 11:35doing pretty well. And uh, Samurai Uma Uma Uma Uma is the it's
- 11:48he is actually kind of impressed. This is one of those things that I
- 11:54have a real toxic relationship with you guys. Everybody any talks like you know,
- 12:01there was a kind of trend going around a year or two ago that
- 12:05was like my toxic traite is blank and it would you know, you would
- 12:07just say some behavior that you like, Noah is fucked up, but you
- 12:11still do it. And I think that one of my biggest toxic traits,
- 12:16especially were I like a superhero. I when i'm reading or watching anything like
- 12:24this, I really feel gratified when the villain in the scene acknowledges that the
- 12:31other person is, if not a match for them, at least like above
- 12:37average or more than they were expecting. I think that, you know,
- 12:43that reveals a deep seated need for approval. And I acknowledge that, and
- 12:48that's fine whatever. But I could not help when Ruma was like, oh
- 12:52you have gotten stronger, be like, hey, all right, see,
- 12:56good, good for you, Brooke, you've been working like I really wanted
- 13:00to give him a pat on the back. Florian says it is not shrinked.
- 13:05The first episodes we're in a three four a three four ratio, and
- 13:11Brian says the episodes back then were made in a four three ratio. It's
- 13:16like the ratio usually, and you know, I maybe just wrong on this,
- 13:22but I want to just like take a screenshot so that I can or
- 13:26no, I can just like show you guys in the share. But it's
- 13:31shrunk from every direction. Usually, if you're trying to show something that's meant
- 13:37to be in the TV aspect ratio, they just put the bars on either
- 13:43side to get the rectangular screen down to a square. But what they've done
- 13:52for this, at least on Funimation, is they have put the frame around
- 13:58all of it so that it's like there's a square just sort of in the
- 14:03middle of the screen. And this is not important. Forgive me folks who
- 14:07are listening and are just like, literally who cares, But you know,
- 14:11I just I have like curiosity about little details like this because sometimes it you
- 14:18know, it's almost never like really important, but it can be kind of
- 14:20interesting to find out. So because like, you know, the area around
- 14:26the square that has the actual show in it is blue and also a square,
- 14:35and so you would think that they would just expand out the actual show
- 14:41to fill that space instead, but it's instead they just shrank it further down
- 14:50so that it's framed twice. Basically, it's framed by the map imagery and
- 14:56then it's framed by the water. So it's just a very weird decision that
- 15:00they have made. And I'm not really sure why it's like that, but
- 15:03it's fine. I just wanted to show you guys. So I was screen
- 15:07shared and now I'm done. So this uh Brooks fight with Ruma. He
- 15:18says, you've gotten much better, but also so have I. And then
- 15:26Brooke winds up on his back and I was like, come on, man,
- 15:31I really wanted him to pull through this and just prove something. You
- 15:37know, it's not it's just to himself, not prove something to Yuma,
- 15:48to be clear, because that's not what is important. Even though I know
- 15:54that I said I was gratified, and I am. But you could see
- 15:58in the last to like fight, when Brooke falls against Ruma and has to
- 16:04run away, how kind of ashamed of himself he is that he wasn't able
- 16:10to to take this dude down, especially because he was confused at the fact
- 16:18that he's facing technically his own consciousness, so he was not expecting to be
- 16:26outmatched because he didn't understand I don't think about the factor that the body the
- 16:36spirit is chosen to the spirit's been put into has what oh my god,
- 16:47Wait, he didn't understand that the body the spirit, the body chosen for
- 16:52the spirit, is a significant factor in the strength of the zombie. So
- 17:00I think that he figured he was just going to be facing somebody who had
- 17:06the exact same abilities as himself, regardless of the body. And I say
- 17:12that while acknowledging that that's what I think is going on with Riuma being such
- 17:18a better swordsman than him, but I'm not positive. And you guys,
- 17:23this was so rough because he's fighting him, he winds up on his back
- 17:29and Yuma is like mocking him about the fact that he's still trying to protect
- 17:36his afro. He actually like guts him at one point, and I say
- 17:41that with the full awareness again that he has no guts and this is a
- 17:47running joke. But he gets him like in the stomach area, and Brooke,
- 17:52we get a close up of his face in that moment, and you
- 17:56see a couple of like, I think what supposed to be like tufts of
- 18:00hair from his afro that fall down even though the sword was like nowhere near
- 18:06his afro. So I don't I think it's just meant to be symbolic of
- 18:08the fact that, like, oh, he's in trouble. But yeah,
- 18:12Yuma gets him on his back and again is just like really enjoying the concept
- 18:21of humiliating him by cutting the afro off and mentions that it's basically the biggest
- 18:32thing on his whole body, so it is a target, whether he likes
- 18:37it or not. And I thought that was kind of an interesting point actually,
- 18:41But then Brooke gets up again keeps fighting, and we have this like
- 18:48inner monologue about what he's thinking in regard to Laboon, and he is just
- 18:59really feeling a lot of guilt over leaving this animal there not coming back,
- 19:06and he says something about how he really tried to bring everybody back and it
- 19:12just didn't work out. You know, everybody's gone now and I have done
- 19:15all that I could do, and I lost, like I lost my friends,
- 19:25my body, my shadow. I basically lost my life, even though
- 19:30not exactly. And when I go back and see you, if I get
- 19:36to, I don't even know how you're going to recognize me. And I'm
- 19:40like, look, I understand your concern on that, buddy, but I
- 19:45will say that you're pretty distinctive looking still, and honestly, that is a
- 19:52hell of a compliment. Like if I were to be reduced to just a
- 20:00like skeleton and my hair, I don't know how much, it would just
- 20:07be a guarantee that a person fifty years later would see me and be like,
- 20:11oh yeah, but man, he has a certain look. And I
- 20:18am somewhat confident that he is going to be recognized by Laboon. I just
- 20:23feel like that's probably you know, and if he decides to live inside La
- 20:30Boon, which would actually be really weird, but I wouldn't be mad about
- 20:36it. I think that would be a sweet ending for him. You know.
- 20:42It's sort of a weird thing too, like, you know, I
- 20:45want him to get a shadow back, of course, but if he didn't,
- 20:49he could probably be safe inside Laboon. It's a weird thing because,
- 20:55you know, and I talked about this during those episodes, there's a whole
- 21:00light system going on inside Laboon that doesn't make any sense but looks like daylight.
- 21:04So I don't actually know how that would even go. I'm assuming it's
- 21:08supposed to be that it's like coming in through the blow hole, so maybe
- 21:11it wouldn't be safe for him. But all this to say, the fight
- 21:18between him and Rhyuma, there's a moment that was really funny where the two
- 21:22of them are like face to face and they both start laughing at the same
- 21:26time, and there's just something really eerie about the way both of them laugh
- 21:33so similarly but also very very differently, and the energy here of like this
- 21:42being his own spirit that's doing this and so bent on taking him down that
- 21:52does have to be kind of a a weird place to be to realize that,
- 21:59like the Shadow of yourself literally and figuratively will be perfectly fine with killing
- 22:07its host, which considering the fact that he is kind of dead already,
- 22:18So question, guys, actually, now that I think about this, can
- 22:26can Brooke be killed? Like? How would that work? We see him
- 22:33get sorted through a couple of times, obviously does nothing. It's fine.
- 22:40I'm assuming, you know, we see like bits of bone go flying and
- 22:44whatnot, but he always just gets back up. And I am realizing that
- 22:52if he's fighting himself and that Shadow were to win and kill him, then
- 23:03that Swordsman would be deactivated. And I'm assuming that Maria just doesn't care.
- 23:14But I had thought that this guy was kind of important to him, Like
- 23:18he's a really good fighter and usually good considering the fucking incompetent zombies that we
- 23:25have seen so far, so I would have thought that fighting the Shadows owner
- 23:32wouldn't be on the list of like two dus because then you're going to potentially
- 23:37rob yourself of a pretty a pretty key fighter, I thought. But maybe
- 23:42I'm just overestimating this guy's importance. And of course I understand too that like
- 23:52the zombie himself is forced to do what he's told to do, so it's
- 23:59not like he has the logic to stop and be like, wait, if
- 24:02I do this, I'm destroying myself. Like that's not how it works.
- 24:06They do what they're told so far as we've seen, so I'm not saying
- 24:11anything about him, but I'm just sort of wondering why, like whose orders
- 24:18are is he under at this point? Has he been told to take Brook
- 24:22out or is this just an automatic self defense that sort of builts in because
- 24:26Brooke attacked him. I don't know. But anyway, we have this like
- 24:33really intense moment where he is promising I don't care what I have to do,
- 24:38but I am definitely coming back for you. And again bone is flying
- 24:45and it is a real kind of I'm gonna struggle back to my feet and
- 24:53keep fighting until I like bore a mere and kneeling helpless before you and you
- 25:00come directly up to me and draw a bow to shoot me in the head.
- 25:07But anyway, we find out here, you guys, I was not
- 25:14prepared for this at all. That everybody is completely on board with Boon Boo
- 25:26la Boon well, actually I say us up said La Boon specifically as well,
- 25:30So I don't know, I guess that would be interesting. But everybody
- 25:34is completely on board with Brooke joining the crew. And I know that this
- 25:38was mentioned before, but I had forgotten Lufi had said that they needed musicians
- 25:44and that he wanted one, and Brooke playing the fiddle like this is exactly
- 25:51what Lufi had been looking for from almost the very beginning, if I remember
- 25:56correctly, So I forgot about how neatly Brook fits into that little slot.
- 26:03But I also was surprised that everybody else at this point, after hearing this
- 26:07story about Laboon and of course Frankie starts crying, everybody has decided that they're
- 26:14going to completely set aside their own like fears and hang ups about what Brooke
- 26:21is and go with it and let him join the crew. And if he
- 26:26really does, I'm gonna be pretty stoked, you guys, because I mean,
- 26:30I really I was so sure that we had, like we had the
- 26:36crew we were gonna have before Frankie joined up. And then when Frankie joined
- 26:41there was a real feeling to me of that is the last guy. And
- 26:45that's not to say that they'll necessarily stay with the crew forever. But I
- 26:51assume if and this is all predicated on obviously Brooke saying yes, which he
- 26:57may not, but he said yes already, and I don't know if that'll
- 27:02change based on what happens on the island, but I didn't. I am
- 27:11like thinking that maybe people who join the crew stay around for like several arcs
- 27:18and then go their own way, because it's still really hard for me to
- 27:22accept that the crew is fundamentally changed in a way that isn't going to revert
- 27:30back to the crew that I knew when the show started, and I know
- 27:36that that is probably not true, considering that this is a show that has
- 27:42gone on for as long as it has and is animated. Because I think
- 27:48that sometimes I get sort of fixated on the way things work in live action
- 27:52shows due to the contracts that they have with actors. So if there's like
- 27:59a cast member that hasn't he suddenly gets added to things, I am thinking
- 28:07he's brand new. They just started a new contract with him. There's no
- 28:11way that he just makes it to the end of the series because they aren't
- 28:18going to commit to that actor the same way or just you know red shirt
- 28:22stuff if anything, But with this show, it's much more possible that this
- 28:30is a permanent change. And I've got to admit I still haven't accepted it.
- 28:37I don't dislike it, but it feels temporary. Does that make sense?
- 28:44And I just am sort of waiting for like the shoe to drop and
- 28:48Frankie to find some other thing that he wants to do, or get news
- 28:52about something and like take off or they go with him to help him on
- 28:57whatever he hears, and then he winds up staying wherever. Like, there's
- 29:02just a lot of different ways that you could have one of these latecomers retreat
- 29:08and go back to the original grouping. And I've actually, now that I
- 29:15say this, have been doing this with Robin also, And part of that
- 29:21is definitely because she shared so little of herself that I didn't feel much of
- 29:26a connection between her and the rest of the crew because she wasn't putting forth
- 29:30an effort to make one. So maybe that's part of why. Is like
- 29:36I'm letting the vibe that I had from Robin's sort of color the way that
- 29:40I'm seeing things going with Frankie and Brooke. I do want to say,
- 29:47though, on that note that as much as Robin is like part of the
- 29:52crew in a more official way now, and you know, I think she's
- 29:56been actually saying people's names, if I'm not mistaken, I don't feel like
- 30:02she has really been vibe in with anybody. And I don't maybe it's just
- 30:11the arc that we're in at the moment doesn't lend itself to that. But
- 30:15she's had these moments of like sweetness, you know, and joking around and
- 30:21stuff, but she just doesn't have the chemistry with the other characters that like
- 30:26Frankie naturally has, and I think it's they just made her a little bit
- 30:33boring. Her backstory is very, very compelling, and her ability is wild,
- 30:41but in some ways, I feel like her personality just doesn't quite match
- 30:47up. I would like something a little bit more distinctive about her, so
- 30:51that and maybe that's you know, you guys have said that she has a
- 30:55much darker sense of humor if I'm reading the subs instead of doing the dub,
- 31:00and maybe that's it. Maybe it just didn't translate well and so I've
- 31:03lost something there. But anyway, Florian says, let's see, I feel
- 31:12like all the zombies have a default setting that is, like take outsiders too,
- 31:17Master Moria. Oh, that's a good point. So you don't think
- 31:22he's trying to kill him. You think he's well or he is trying to
- 31:26kill him. I'm thinking to take Outsiders to Master Maria so that he can,
- 31:30like Harvest, there's shadows, but he maybe he doesn't know that Brook's
- 31:37shadow is gone already. But he does know, doesn't he? I don't
- 31:40know. I mean it maybe that he can't recognize himself because they don't seem
- 31:48to have like a real consciousness exactly. And Lufy came faced, but he
- 31:56says, you got stronger, doesn't still doesn't. He doesn't necessarily know.
- 32:00He just knows I've seen you before and I fought you before. But he
- 32:02may not know who he actually is. And Riuma I have to say as
- 32:08well that like, he definitely is more capable of holding a real conversation than
- 32:15any of the zombies that we have come across. He is talking in like
- 32:19a lot of full sentences and has an edge to him that seems really specifically
- 32:30human that doesn't, in my opinion, really match Brooks personality. So that's
- 32:38the only thing that's sort of kind of like hanging me up. Is we
- 32:43see the Loofy zombie, the Zoro zombie and the way that they're acting,
- 32:50You're like, oh, yeah, that's who that is. But I don't
- 32:52really have that sense with Brooke. He doesn't seem at all to have the
- 32:59personality of Shadow other than the fact that he his shadow laughs as well.
- 33:06Otherwise he seems to be sort of mean spirited in a way that Brooke isn't.
- 33:15And I don't know if there's anything significant to that, but there it
- 33:20is, because it'd be kind of funny if Brooke we're facing off with a
- 33:24really cheery, like positive zombie. You know, when you're versus against somebody
- 33:32like that, that can be kind of interesting. So then we have Sangi
- 33:43and he like jumps in as everybody's saying that they want to accept these dudes
- 33:49as crewmates and says, before I can answer the question, I gotta put
- 33:53a stop to this shotgun wedding of namies. And he says this, and
- 33:58flames erupted around him. But I thought that was just a metaphor, and
- 34:07it seems like that's not what that is. So we'll get back to that,
- 34:13because that like suddenly happens, and then we don't get any more of
- 34:17that until the next episode, and nobody comments on it, which is another
- 34:22part of why I was like, this is symbolic, right, But this
- 34:25is when Lufy sees that Zoro is leaving the ship, and it's like,
- 34:30We've got a lot of stuff to get back, we have things to do.
- 34:35Let's get a move on, guys, We've got to do this.
- 34:38And then we go into the next episode, and this is the one where
- 34:46we have the like Sanji is literally just standing around, like fully engulfed in
- 34:53flame, and it just doesn't feel like anybody is as surprised about that as
- 35:00they ought to be. I feel like that deserves a much bigger reaction,
- 35:08and this show is usually not stingy on reactions, but I wanted even more,
- 35:17like how is this possible? But anyway, so we jump into the
- 35:22next episode, which opens with Lufi's zombie again attempting to stretch his arm up
- 35:31and it not working, and I am wondering if the devil fruit abilities maybe
- 35:39he doesn't know how to activate them as a zombie, but I think it's
- 35:44just that he doesn't have them. I'm not sure if Maria has ever turned
- 35:49a devil fruit user to know, you know, I will say that it
- 35:54is super funny how Maria is just like rinning and excited in a general sense
- 36:01of like mischievous, like io quote we did. Doctor Hogback, for his
- 36:08part, is treating Lufy like a baby that is much smarter like than anybody
- 36:19would have expected. He keeps saying like, oh my god, look at
- 36:22him. Go I'm so proud of him, to the point that like,
- 36:24Lufy is destroying shit. Later and other zombies are kind of chiming and like,
- 36:30hey, uh, just wondering if it's a great idea to be working
- 36:37with somebody that's ginormous but also not controllable, because for us that's feeling like
- 36:45a drawback, and Maria and Hogback are both just like, shut the fuck
- 36:51up, We'll deal with it. But they both seem truly excited, mostly
- 36:57at the fact that like nine hundred is up walking around and they are willing
- 37:00to overlook everything else in favor of the fact that they have finally managed to
- 37:07animate this like body that clearly they were saving for a special occasion. This
- 37:15was a big deal. I also want to mention that I was wondering about
- 37:22how this nine hundred could be on the island with all of them considering how
- 37:30huge it is and like what kind of space it would take up, And
- 37:34we get a moment where Chopper is explaining to all of them how much bigger
- 37:38this dude is than a regular giant would be. A human being in this
- 37:44animation comes up to the top of his ankle, and that was sort of
- 37:52helpful to me, just, you know, for proportion on that front.
- 37:57But also, like the zombie begins climbing a building, I guess it's sort
- 38:04of supposed to be the mast. I'm not even sure what it is that
- 38:07he's climbing, but he is very small in comparison to that, so I
- 38:14think that I was overestimating his size and underestimating the size of Killer Bark.
- 38:19And I have to keep remembering Killer Bark Thriller Bark, and I have to
- 38:22keep remembering that, you know, this is a big enough ship that it
- 38:29looks like an island from the water, and there are literal like trees growing
- 38:34on it, and you need a carriage ride to get you from the shore
- 38:37to the castle and a reasonable length of time. So I've just forgotten how
- 38:44much space we're actually dealing with here. So everybody is trying to explain to
- 38:51Lufy about this thing that has his shadow in it and how scary it is,
- 38:57And once again we have Zoro chiming in and basically being like, we
- 39:04keep on talking about what this thing can do to us and how scary it
- 39:09is, but it will not change the fact that fighting it is what we
- 39:15have to do. So if nobody's got any other ideas on how to improve
- 39:22our chances, we've got to stop just sitting around freaking ourselves out talking about
- 39:30it and go deal with it. So again this bit with Sanji, who
- 39:44is it, was it Lufy that tells him to fire up, and he
- 39:47says, you're rescuing Nami, and Sanji just says, that's exactly what I
- 39:53wanted to hear, burst into flames. That invisible man's gonna be a divisible
- 40:00man. When I'm done with him, I'm gonna break his ass into fractions.
- 40:06And I love the fact that, like all of this is still with
- 40:13his cigarette in his mouth and his hair is floating up around his face.
- 40:19There's a real like dragon ball z vibe And I have never watched any of
- 40:23that show, but there are some things that it's just impossible not to absorb
- 40:29by osmosis, and the look that people get in Dragon ball Z when they
- 40:35are fighting. This is just very much reminding me of that. But this
- 40:44is when Usa says he spied on Nami while she was taking a bath,
- 40:50and Sanji says, what the hell you say? He will pay and he
- 40:58turns bright red and a fireball goes up, and then Choppers says, oh
- 41:08my god, Sanji exploded. Now Florian is in the chat saying the flames
- 41:15of passion and love, Florian, is he not actually on fire? Because
- 41:21I took this initially as the metaphor of flames of passion and rage? Also,
- 41:28but is it supposed to be that it's really a metaphor because the way
- 41:31that Chopper says, oh my god, he exploded, and also the fact
- 41:37that the fact that Lufy specifically says to him, fire up. I know
- 41:45that, like you could say fire up to somebody as a get yourself psyched,
- 41:50you know, get ready to go in. But it felt so literal
- 41:54an order that I had been taking it, like this is actually what's happening,
- 42:01And if it's not, I'm a Dodo, so forgive me. But
- 42:07yeah, Sanji then says, this loathsome invisible pervert is gonna die, and
- 42:15he's screaming and his eyes are like flames that are pouring out of his skull,
- 42:22and it is really a moment. So what us Up decides is that
- 42:29he is going to go with Sanji to help save Nami because he feels responsible
- 42:35for the fact that Nami got nabbed while she was with him and Chopper,
- 42:38and also he is banking on the fact that saving Nami means he will not
- 42:45have to cross Maria's path, which is probably true or it would have been
- 42:50true. But this, uh, this is sound logic to me overall.
- 42:59And the Frankie says, okay, well, if straw Hat is able to
- 43:07win and we can get everything straightened out, then that's fine. But otherwise
- 43:12I've got to help Brook and also figure out a way to hold onto my
- 43:16own shadow. And Zoro says, yeah, all right, let's get let's
- 43:22go and start with these dudes and see how they live up to their reputations.
- 43:30Robin says, if we're picking, I really want to help, not
- 43:34me, because for me, she's a priority, And then we can just
- 43:37take down Maria as a team and This is when Chopper brings up that he's
- 43:43one of the warlords. YadA, YadA, YadA. But eventually everybody gets
- 43:46moving and we have a bit with a what's his name's at Wilton, the
- 43:52little bat like guy. He is, I honestly just love his design.
- 44:01Guys, I love him. But he is watching Lufy who is He has
- 44:07climbed all the way up to the top of the mast of thriller Bark and
- 44:15he is so excited about the view and says that it's like the perfect view
- 44:22of for somebody who is going to be King of the Pirates. So my
- 44:28previous I was torn between is his main focus going to be on eating or
- 44:35is it going to be on being King of the pirates and initially eating?
- 44:38But once he got that taken care of, the King of the Pirates thing
- 44:44became a immediate second. So I'm feeling pretty good about how much I understand
- 44:51these characters. At this point, I got to say, but he's up
- 44:54there and Hilden, thank you, Florian, and one of the little like
- 45:04negative ghosts flies up and I thought that it was going to fly through him,
- 45:10but it turns out he's just spying and evidently what's her name, Pirona.
- 45:19She can see through the eyes of this ghost because as it flies up
- 45:23and looks at him, she's inside the building, and she tells Maria that
- 45:30he's like on the top of the mast of the ship for some reason.
- 45:35So that sort of adds a lot to her abilities, because I mean,
- 45:43these things being her minions and running out and doing her will is already pretty
- 45:46impressive. But if she's able to, like, if not see through their
- 45:52eyes, at least get information from them telepathically somehow, I mean, that
- 45:58really extends her reach. That's all I'm saying. That's pretty scary. I
- 46:01love what she tells Maria too, that he's climbed up the mast for some
- 46:06reason, and he looks so happy, like he's just like this is exactly
- 46:10what I was wanting, And everybody around him is like, dude, this
- 46:14doesn't feel awesome. It's just not really what we were expecting in a coworker,
- 46:20that's all we're saying. So then we have the moment where Hilden arrives
- 46:29explains to them all that basically everybody from that crew whose shadow they stole is
- 46:36already awake and I wasn't, you know, I had forgotten that it's mentioned
- 46:42people's sleep usually for a couple of days after they're stolen. Our friends got
- 46:46like slapped awake basically, and I had forgotten that's how that went, and
- 46:52that it would have been so much longer if they didn't have people around basically,
- 46:58you know, pouring cold water are over their heads, and yeah,
- 47:02Hogback is like shocked at the fact that they are already awake. He thinks
- 47:07that Hilden's mistaken, and Hilden's like, no, I promise, and they
- 47:12are heading this way, and also, you know, they know how to
- 47:16do the cleansing thing as well, which that really gets Hogback extremely worried.
- 47:22So then Hogback is like, where the hell is Absalon, Like he's supposed
- 47:27to be here helping us. I don't know what he's up to. And
- 47:30Hilden says, well, he is getting married, and I think the ceremony
- 47:37just started. And also the zombie generals are all attending the ceremony and they
- 47:45are in the audience, and this understandably sends Hogback into a bit of a
- 47:52rage, and he's like, I cannot believe all of our top players are
- 47:58gathered in one place. Are they fucking high what is wrong with them?
- 48:04And poor Hilton, he's just like cowering before him with little sweat drops.
- 48:12And then he says, I forgot to ask you. Absalom wanted to know
- 48:14if he could use your dance hall for his wedding reception. Hogback, Well,
- 48:20I suppose a wedding is a special, beautiful event. And then finally,
- 48:24but do you think this is a good time for dancing? I did
- 48:30kind of enjoy that interaction, I'm just saying, And Hildon, when he
- 48:37gets yelled at, says, I mean, you know, I'm a zombie,
- 48:43right, so like, maybe it's unfair to yell at me for the
- 48:47question I am sent to ask you because I literally can't do anything else,
- 48:54like I haven't got any choice. And I was like, oh, that's
- 49:00a good point. He just falls backward onto his back in fright, I
- 49:04guess. So this is when Pirona is like, whatever, we don't need
- 49:12him. Let him have his fucking wedding, and I'm gonna go and use
- 49:15my ghosts and I will be able to completely rob them of any will or
- 49:22motivation they have to fight. And then the zombies are just gonna swing by
- 49:27and scoop them up and it'll be nothing. I'll take care of this.
- 49:32So we have her being followed by Kumasi, who does not any longer have
- 49:39straw hats inside him, and we get another moment. So Pirona is walking
- 49:52away. Hogback says, oh good, she's useful. What would we do
- 49:57without her? And injury. I can't remember if that's the right way to
- 50:01say her name. You guys have told me. She slides up and says,
- 50:06you know, if you want it to be useful, you could shut
- 50:08your fat mouth like Kumacy. I am living for this dead pan bitch,
- 50:19like I want her commentary on everything for the rest of the show. She
- 50:30is so fucking over it and doesn't care. And it's beautiful. It's beautiful.
- 50:40I just love the fact that Hogback clearly like he I think that the
- 50:46vibe is that he was like obsessed with her as an actress and maybe abducted
- 50:51her or something to turn her into this assistant because he was, like,
- 50:55you know, had a crush on her or something. And I really enjoy
- 51:00that theory because it makes the fact that she despises him so completely even more
- 51:07like satisfying. So anyway, this little bit just tickled me. I really
- 51:15enjoyed it anyway. All right, So this is when we have the crew
- 51:23all running around the building yelling for Maria, where are you, and a
- 51:29bunch of zombies that like get in the way of our friends are literally panicking
- 51:36at the sight of Lufy and realizing like, oh, this is the guy
- 51:38that completely schooled us. It's about to get ugly. Sanji is running through
- 51:45asking who was spying on Nami, and all of these dudes are like very
- 51:50quick to say it wasn't me. I swear it wasn't me because they don't
- 51:53want any of that smoke literally or figuratively. And who's up sades something about
- 52:02how we might not even need the salts, like they're fucking cleaning these guys
- 52:08out. So they're heading toward the dance hall, and there's this very fine
- 52:16little bridge that kind of connects it to this other. Because this is a
- 52:21ship, the way it's built is really really weird to me. So I
- 52:25kept trying to sort of wrap my head around where exactly we were and what
- 52:30the building was, like, you know, it really didn't quite work.
- 52:36I'm going to admit to you guys, like I lost the plot a little
- 52:39bit in terms of where they were more than once, and we have all
- 52:46of these these negative ghosts that are chasing our friends up the stairs. And
- 52:54as they are running up them, we see Lufy's zombie jump from like way
- 53:04up high onto a building that I thought, I guess he expected would just
- 53:10hold his weight, that he was treating it like, oh yeah, I'm
- 53:15just walking down the steps. But because this bridge has been completely collapsed,
- 53:22it winds up separating our friends. They go down, some of them,
- 53:28but Chopper like is up on the top still. So when the others wake
- 53:32up there, it's a very different situation. I feel so bad for Chopper
- 53:37being like all by himself, And no, he's not by himself. I
- 53:43lied. There's a moment where it looks like and then Robin and Lufy are
- 53:47over there. I thought for a second that he was all alone, and
- 53:51I was like, man, Chopper always hays this happened, But yeah,
- 53:55us up, SANGI. They fell, and they are upside down in the
- 54:02stone, while Zoro and Frankie are totally fine. Frankie is combing his hair
- 54:09literally and he says, all right, well, there's this wall that we've
- 54:15got to get through, and it's really weird looking, and we see this
- 54:21strange pink stretch of wall and finally us Up and us Up and Sanji get
- 54:31up. They're looking at it and Zoro is like, yeah, I'm just
- 54:37gonna go ahead and chop it, so he shoves his sword into it.
- 54:44Frankie says, I'm going to try and blow it up and uses one of
- 54:50like the cannons in his arms, and us Up is like, guys,
- 54:55what are you fucking doing? And they're like, what, It's just a
- 55:00wall. And thankfully us Up is a little bit more observant, and it's
- 55:06like, that's not a wall, that's the zombie that Lufie's shadow is in,
- 55:15y'all. And this is the first time that they get any sense of
- 55:21really the proportion they are working with, because it is one thing for Chopper
- 55:25to say he is six times taller than any other giant. I mean,
- 55:30that's like an impossible thing to imagine effectively anyway, but then factoring in he
- 55:37is also a lot wider than any other zombie because he has to like compensate.
- 55:44So it's say, this thing is just beyond what any of them we're
- 55:47expecting. It's very clear they thought they got it, they didn't got it.
- 55:53So then we have the next episode, which starts off with Lufy,
- 56:02Robin, and usop or no Chopper running into the room where doctor Hogback is
- 56:10and I was so confused because he looks at Chopper and says, why is
- 56:16there a talking reindeer? And I was like, but you've met him,
- 56:21and I realized he's in a different form now, so he doesn't see it.
- 56:25You know. I was very surprised though, that you wouldn't be,
- 56:29like, well, even though he's a different shape, he is still a
- 56:34reindeer, which the other guy was also wearing the same hat and has the
- 56:39same voice, So it's odd that you are confused or surprised, but sure,
- 56:46it's fine. So Chopper asks Lufy to let him fight this guy,
- 56:59and he tells Lufy that the refrigerator, which is down that hallway, is
- 57:05where you want ahead, So Lufy just fucking runs off, and as he's
- 57:14running, we have Chindry like Shindry throwing plates at him, and she's like
- 57:21enjoying the hell out of herself, but Robin uses her ability to come out
- 57:25of Shindre's chest with all of these arms and grab her and hold her plate
- 57:31in place so that she can't keep throwing plates. And honestly, as much
- 57:37as I appreciate not wanting Lufy to have plates thrown at him, I just
- 57:45love her so much that I want her to get whatever it is she wants.
- 57:50That's sort of where I'm at. Let her throw plates. I just
- 57:53honestly, this woman is great. Let her do whatever she wants. So
- 58:00Chopper transforms back into his little self and is like, I'm going to fight
- 58:07the fuck out of you, to which doctor Hogback is like, oh wow,
- 58:13I didn't recognize you. I'm not going to let you get away a
- 58:16second time, especially because your body is crazy. So I am going to
- 58:24definitely make you into some weird puppet, because how could I help it.
- 58:30You're a very unusual find, and you know who I'm going to use to
- 58:34do that. And then the two zombies that have Sani and Zoro's shadows in
- 58:40them come forward, and he recognizes Sangie's because he met this weird penguin before,
- 58:50but when he looks at the one for Zoro, we have the first
- 58:52instance of somebody realizing what Lufy has said about how it looked just like him,
- 58:59and that it is profoundly untrue, and Chopper, It's like, that
- 59:05is not at why what did he even mean? So then we jump over
- 59:12to Lufy and he's running down to the refrigerator and turns and there is Maria
- 59:19just fucking chilling, and he looks down and just says, oh you again,
- 59:24with his hands folded behind his head. I will tell you what,
- 59:28kiddos, this is not the vibe I was expecting from this dude. I
- 59:32really thought we were gonna get you know, evil laughter, Ah, you
- 59:38fell into my trap or some bullshit. He's really got the energy of somebody
- 59:45who's like on their fifteen at work and didn't want to be interrupted, and
- 59:52they're like a good eight minutes in, ten minutes in, and they're trying
- 59:58as much as they can to like savor the last five minutes, and you
- 1:00:02came out and sort of wrecked the energy they were building there. You know,
- 1:00:07there's just he just doesn't seem particularly interested. And I was pleased to
- 1:00:15be so surprised, because I really thought I knew what we were dealing with
- 1:00:19here. Meanwhile, outside, we've got a Lufy zombie who picks up this
- 1:00:28huge chunk of masonry, and of course understandably, every single one of them
- 1:00:35is like, what is he going to do with it? Oh my god,
- 1:00:37we're screwed. We're screwed. He's just going to crush us. It's
- 1:00:39going to be over before it began. And then nine hundred puts the rock
- 1:00:49on his head and just says there, that's better, and everybody's like,
- 1:00:58wait what And we get a little like thought bubble of a pirate with one
- 1:01:07of those those weird little Napoleon type hats. So he did this, like
- 1:01:16with this chunk of rock to get as close to that kind of hat as
- 1:01:22he could get, and then he just puts a fist in the air,
- 1:01:27says you can't be a pirate without a cool hat, and walks away.
- 1:01:34Now I had thought that this would be a bit of a lesson to our
- 1:01:40friends. Instead one I think Zoro said something like, well, he really
- 1:01:47does act like lufy. But then usap thinks something that huge with his fighting
- 1:01:53power is going to give us hell. Or maybe it's Frankie that said it,
- 1:01:58and I was kind of like, guy, is I don't did you
- 1:02:01did you see what just happened? Like he didn't give a shit, He
- 1:02:07doesn't want to fight. He is having a good time, and I bet
- 1:02:10if y'all were just like friendly with him, he wouldn't fight you. He
- 1:02:15wouldn't care. It's unclear, like it seems that Lufys or the Lufy zombie
- 1:02:21is not under the control of Maria at all. But yeah, so this
- 1:02:27like bit there, I just felt like they took the wrongest lesson a way.
- 1:02:30I understand how it's very easy to still be in the mindset of this
- 1:02:36thing is so enormous there's no possible way, but it I felt like it
- 1:02:44should be acknowledged a little bit more that it just didn't feel fighty. So
- 1:02:52they are sort of stranded because this bridge broke, and the camera like,
- 1:02:57go, it's on Frankie for a moment, Panza over and we see we
- 1:03:04see Sanji and us up and Zoro talking and they're all just trying to figure
- 1:03:12out how we're going to handle this because we are stuck here and I have
- 1:03:15to find another way. And then Frankie's like, oh, it just gave
- 1:03:20me a minute, and they turn around and there is a fully like this
- 1:03:29bridge is gorgeous, just frankly, you know, it's not the same size
- 1:03:34or anything, but it happened in ten seconds. Everybody is like what the
- 1:03:38fuck and he's like, Frankie's like, you guys know, I build things
- 1:03:42for a living, right, Like, I'm very good at it. If
- 1:03:45I couldn't just build a bridge here with all of this material hanging around,
- 1:03:49that'd be pretty sad, and ups like, yeah, you really paying a
- 1:03:52lot of attention to the details, though, I am surprised by that.
- 1:03:58So this is when they go into the bedroom of Pirona. They were not
- 1:04:04expecting this room to look like what it looked like, clearly, and she
- 1:04:10uses her negative ghosts to take them all out, except it turns out that
- 1:04:19they just straight up don't work on us up And at first he pretends that
- 1:04:29they work, and he manages to get Perona walking away because she's so certain
- 1:04:35the threats taken care of, no problem, And as she's walking away,
- 1:04:43he uses his badass sling shotting skills to fire salt into the mouths of all
- 1:04:49of the adorable animals and they all release their spirit. She's got some behind
- 1:04:56her still, but like there were a lot others in the room all taken
- 1:05:00out, So Pirona figures that what happened was that when she shot a ghost
- 1:05:06at him. It looked like it hit, but it didn't, and he
- 1:05:11faked it. So she tries again, and once again, nothing happens,
- 1:05:19and I was like, is it supposed to be that he just has such
- 1:05:25low self esteem already? And that kind of is a little bit. So
- 1:05:33she asks, why don't my attacks do anything to you? And he yells,
- 1:05:39I just have a naturally negative personality, you guys, Honestly, this
- 1:05:46is so good. It is so dumb, but I love it so much.
- 1:05:53She's like, she's using like, you know, depression as a weapon,
- 1:05:58and somebody who has lived with depression their whole lives is like, really,
- 1:06:03oh yeah, Oh I'm a bad person who doesn't deserve to live.
- 1:06:08I should just kill myself. That's Wednesday for me, sweetie. That is
- 1:06:12not getting through. I don't care. And Pirona meanwhile, is completely flipped
- 1:06:18out and she's like, how can this be? All humans just have a
- 1:06:23desire to do better and strive for the future, and if he doesn't have
- 1:06:30that, and she gets really emotional and seems like truly upset that us up
- 1:06:42is living like that, like this was such a delightful, unexpected turn of
- 1:06:48events that she's going, oh, honey, if you feel that way when
- 1:06:54I shoot a ghost at you, that's one thing, But you just walk
- 1:06:57around like that. I am so sorry. Oh my god, you've gotten
- 1:07:03you can do it. You know. I believe in you, like believe
- 1:07:09in yourself. And it is hysterical. I just was not seeing this coming.
- 1:07:15All of the animals that are like still alive, she yells, don't
- 1:07:18give up, and they start to like chant it with her, and they're
- 1:07:21all turning this corner and suddenly on USAP side. Except he doesn't like appreciate
- 1:07:30this. He says something like, don't pity me, And I was like,
- 1:07:33I mean, maybe there's definitely pity in there, but also I think
- 1:07:38there's just some empathy. I mean, it's amazing that Pirona is so touched
- 1:07:44by this. I'm like, do I ship Pirona and USAP? Now?
- 1:07:49I don't feel like they'd be a bad couple, honestly, But anyway,
- 1:07:56all of the other dudes, USAP is like, I am going to handle
- 1:08:00this chick. You guys go ahead, and they're all like, wow,
- 1:08:05I can't believe it. He looks actually kind of badass right now. So
- 1:08:14veronas she's she calls him you little turd, and she comes forward at him
- 1:08:25again as they all run away, and when he turns around, all the
- 1:08:30animals have gathered around, and she says, that's okay, I'll just pound
- 1:08:36you to death, which I know isn't that isn't what they meant, but
- 1:08:42that's how I heard it, and I kept thinking death by snoo snow,
- 1:08:45and I felt like maybe USA wouldn't be mad about it. So then we
- 1:08:50have the final scene of this episode truly goes on forever, but it is
- 1:08:57the wedding and Absalom is there with an unconscious Nammie who is being held up
- 1:09:03by a zombie and her jaw is being worked to answer what the priest says,
- 1:09:10and he says it's time to kiss the bride, and Absalom leans forward,
- 1:09:16and as he's leaning in to kiss her excruciatingly slowly, we keep cutting
- 1:09:24over to the three dudes running up the hall headed in his direction, and
- 1:09:30he is like very nervous about the kiss, So that sort of draws it
- 1:09:33out, is like his excitement and this expression of like bashfulness, and then
- 1:09:39how slow he's going with it because he seems really nervous, very very weird
- 1:09:45energy overall, but the episode ends before any of the dudes actually reach the
- 1:09:49room. So it's sort of funny because I think that, like what it's
- 1:09:56supposed to be is that we are hoping those guys get there before he get
- 1:10:00like kisses an Ammie. But I mean, I wouldn't like buy into the
- 1:10:06ceremony either way, so I don't consider that kiss to be like particularly significant.
- 1:10:13And he already assaulted her while she was naked in the shower, so
- 1:10:16this seems extremely tame in comparison to that, So I'm not really that wrapped
- 1:10:21up in it either for that reason, but I understand what it is that
- 1:10:27they're trying to do here, so I'm over time. I have to let
- 1:10:30you guys go, but I really appreciate you all enjoying this arc so much.
- 1:10:35What a fucking weird story, and I will be seeing you again very
- 1:10:40soon with a new episode. Until then, to the Loue Motherfucker's That was
