- 0:01Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
- 0:05Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
- 0:09and it's Tuesday, July 28th. You'll be interested
- 0:13to know. 112 years ago, today, in 1914, European
- 0:20nations rapidly mobilized and declared war after
- 0:24a diplomatic crisis triggered large -scale military
- 0:27actions. as armies and navies moved into a conflict
- 0:31that involved continent -wide alliances. This
- 0:35moment marked a pivotal milestone that transformed
- 0:37diplomacy, accelerated industrial and medical
- 0:41innovations, and reshaped global institutions
- 0:44for the modern era. So now you know. And now,
- 0:50it's time for the weather report. This morning,
- 0:56it's partly sunny and it feels like 69 degrees
- 0:59with 5 mile per hour wind. The sunset will take
- 1:04place at 8 .05 and it will rise again tomorrow
- 1:06at 5 .34. It looks like we're in for some partly
- 1:10sunny skies today with a high near 79 at a moderate
- 1:14south wind around 10 miles per hour bringing

- 1:20of thunderstorms this afternoon. If you're inland,
- 1:24It will hit a high of 80 tonight. Expect mostly
- 1:29cloudy conditions with a chance of rain showers,
- 1:32a low around 64, and a light southeast breeze
- 1:35around 8 miles per hour. The near shore buoy
- 1:39at Cape Cod Bay reads 70 degrees for the water
- 1:43temperature. Looking ahead in the weather. Wednesday
- 1:48is a wet day with rain likely before 7 a .m.

- 3:01Sunny mornings send you. In Ogunquit, Maine,
- 3:07a small business owned by Dave and Sarah Lublink
- 3:10is gaining national attention over a dispute
- 3:12with local officials regarding six -foot -tall
- 3:15tin roosters they installed at their home. Town
- 3:19officials issued fines for what they deemed a
- 3:21violation of signage codes, but the Lublinks
- 3:24argue these colorful ornaments provide comfort
- 3:26for their autistic daughter. As support grows,
- 3:30Kathy Kotakis, a local resident, emphasize the
- 3:33movement is about community and love. The Limp
- 3:37Flanks have launched a Facebook page to track
- 3:39the Roosters, now numbering over 100 across New
- 3:43England, while advocating for autism awareness
- 3:46and inclusivity. Now on to sports. LeBron James'
- 3:56newest goal could help him make NBA history with
- 3:59the Philadelphia 76ers. Across the 23 years he
- 4:04has played in the National Basketball Association,
- 4:07LeBron James has set and shattered plenty of
- 4:10historical records. Now entering his 24th season,
- 4:14James is taking on a new challenge with the Philadelphia
- 4:1776ers, aiming to win a championship with a team
- 4:21that has not won since 1983. If successful, he
- 4:26will become the first player in NBA history to
- 4:28win a championship with four different teams.
- 4:32ESPN's Shams Chiranian noted, it's no doubt LeBron
- 4:36is playing for a different legacy. In local sports,
- 4:40the Red Sox are right in the thick of it. They
- 4:44took game one in Oakland, 4 -2 last night, with
- 4:47Peyton Tall turning in five and a third strong
- 4:50innings, and Sadon Rafaela going four for four
- 4:54with four RB ice and a home run. Aroldis Chapman
- 4:59notched his 25th save. That win keeps Boston
- 5:03at 54 and 50, and they're riding eight wins in
- 5:06their last ten games, the kind of stretch that
- 5:09matters down the stretch in a tight All -East
- 5:12race. Tonight they go for back -to -back wins
- 5:16in Oakland. Jake Fennett takes the mound against
- 5:19the Athletics, gauge jump at 940. With momentum
- 5:24like this, the Sox have a real chance to grab
- 5:27a two -game series lead heading home. One cautionary
- 5:31note, Curtis Meade, the infielder Boston brought
- 5:35in from Washington to bolster the middle infield,
- 5:38took it hit by pitch on his left wrist in Monday's
- 5:42win. X -rays came back negative, no fracture,
- 5:46just a contusion. That's good news, but it's
- 5:49a rough way to start for a guy the Sox were counting
- 5:52on to add some punch to the lineup. In top news,
- 5:58Authors have mixed feelings about the $1 .5 billion
- 6:02Anthropic copyright infringement ruling. Charles
- 6:06Graeber expressed pride in being a plaintiff
- 6:09in this significant case, but remains hesitant
- 6:12to label the outcome a complete victory. He is
- 6:16among more than 300 ,000 writers who may soon
- 6:19receive a modest compensation, as a federal judge
- 6:22approved the settlement after ruling that Anthropic
- 6:25used copyrighted texts without consent. While
- 6:28the settlement amount seems large, it must be
- 6:31divided among many authors and publishers. Some
- 6:35argue that the ruling favors AI companies as
- 6:38it did not deem the training of AI on copyrighted
- 6:41works illegal if payments are made. In business
- 6:45news, the 52 -year -old international restaurant
- 6:49chain Beefeater will close all locations. While
- 6:53market data shows that the global dining -out
- 6:55market is projected to grow from $1 trillion
- 6:58to more than $3 trillion by 2030, many individual
- 7:04chains are struggling. In the United Kingdom,
- 7:07Beefeeder will shut 106 restaurant locations,
- 7:11with plans confirmed by Whitbread to close by
- 7:14September. The company aims to reduce annual
- 7:17costs by £250 million, approximately $333 million.
- 7:25Approximately 3 ,800 employees are affected,
- 7:28with significant job losses anticipated. In crypto
- 7:33movement, Bitcoin is down 2 % to about $63 ,000.
- 7:40Ethereum is unchanged at just under $1 ,900.
- 7:45And XRP is down 4 % to $1 .06. Moving on to a
- 7:52more local vibe. In our community spotlight on

- 8:36back to the show. Let's talk science. Rocket
- 8:41Lab is expanding its launch operations to the
- 8:44snowy north. The California -based company just
- 8:47inked a $266 million deal with the United States
- 8:52Space Force to fly up to 18 missile defense missions,
- 8:56most of them from Alaska. The size and scale
- 8:59of this contract reflects the Space Force's confidence
- 9:02in our ability to meet their urgent national
- 9:05security demands, said Rocket Lab founder and
- 9:08Chief Executive Officer Peter Beck. These missions
- 9:12will primarily take place from the Pacific Spaceport
- 9:15Complex on Kodiak Island, known for its thriving
- 9:18population of brown bears. Rocket Lab's primary
- 9:22launch site is on Mahia Peninsula in New Zealand.
- 9:30I Will Find You is on the brink of breaking into
- 9:33Netflix's all -time top 10 list of most -watched
- 9:37English -language series, needing only 3 million
- 9:41views. This eight -episode mystery, based on
- 9:44a bestseller by Harlan Coban, has captivated
- 9:47audiences despite mixed reviews, currently holding
- 9:51a 62 % score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show features
- 9:55Sam Worthington and Britt Lower, both prominent
- 9:58actors in their fields. In its fifth week, it
- 10:01garnered 8 .8 million views, following 11 million
- 10:06views in week four and 16 million views in week
- 10:10three. With a total of around 95 million views,
- 10:14it aims to surpass his and hers. Well, all righty,
- 10:19folks. It's time for the quote of the day. And
- 10:23today, our quote comes from the British philosopher
- 10:26and mathematician Bertrand Russell. And he said,
- 10:31war does not determine who is right, only who
- 10:34is left. And that's a wrap for this morning.
