- 0:13[SPEAKER_03]: What's up?
- 0:13[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome on in happy November the counter has turned though.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's not quite fall weather quite yet, but we'll get there and we will enjoy it all.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_03]: Hopefully here on the sooner's on the side podcast, it's gonna be an interesting final month of the Oklahoma football season.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: We'll talk about all of it here, obviously.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_03]: Today, I got the squad here, the great John Hoover in a fantastic shirt, if you're watching on YouTube, John, good afternoon, how you be,
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: uh... i guess uh... just we we need to start putting john Hoover drumming videos up to supplement what's not going to happen which is a lot of like highlights from wins for a kuma fans yeah it's a uh... it's a birthday gift from my sister in Alaska sent me last week so uh... we're rolling with that i'm going to go shoot some video and send it back to her today while i'm going you said it's not fall weather it's fall it felt like fall weather when i was climbing in the hot tub this morning's forty six
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if it's, let's see, our high technically in Norman is 70, so it's like a full morning, but Carson, it's still a spot where you could sneak out and catch nine and probably feel pretty comfortable, which it's like totally with that other question if you put some jackets as to Fabae, it's just like a smidge too hot to be like full fall during the afternoon.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: I could, if I didn't spring my ankle last week, I think I would bear on the IR for golf for at least the next couple of weeks, but yeah, going to be an interesting next month.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: When I got this job, the first thing that OU did was be Alabama, and I thought I was suddenly maybe I'm the good luck charm.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: This week of covering an Oklahoma lost to South Carolina by 17 points in an Oklahoma basketball loss to East Texas A&M, I'm not so sure of that anymore, so bear with us guys.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it is hashtag not good.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to it in a second.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_03]: That's car's revealed.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_03]: And the great Ryan Aver, what's your part in this mess?
- 2:09[SPEAKER_03]: What do you have to say for yourself?
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: I've been here for several of these by this point, but nothing quite like the loss to East Texas A&M.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think, but as far as the coordinators, I mean, hooves have been around for several of these, too.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's something that we talked about after Saturday's game that might be around the corner and took probably an extra 24 hours than most of us were thinking, but finally came through on Monday.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: That extra 24 hours really made Monday, one of the all time that days for OU athletics, especially like on the men's side.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_03]: Now, let's do this skip Johnson OU baseball, raining next for champions.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_03]: They look like they're re-locked and loaded.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to put them to the side.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: Nick Crowe, you tennis, no one's John Roddick, but he's in a really nice job.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: Put them to the side.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: Mark Williams, Ben's Jim, they're still battling the Stanford's and the Michigan's of the world.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_03]: They get over to the side.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_03]: You go to the other half of the athlete's department, Matt Mott, he's doing a good job with though you soccer, certainly, patty, and KJ, and everything that Jenny Baranchek is doing is they pick up a great win on Monday.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_03]: They all get a pass in this conversation.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_03]: But we know this and collegiate athletics,
- 3:28[SPEAKER_03]: There are two sports that rule as the major revenue sports, obviously football and men's basketball and the 24 hour delay or 18 hour delay, I guess maybe as it actually would have been on the Ben Arbuckle firing, meant that Monday morning, made after noon, and late morning.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_03]: The news starts to filter out Oklahoma, canning yet another offensive coordinator under Brent Venables.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma fans had the small slice of paradise that was Lee Lee Bell and everything that that freshman did out in Paris.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_03]: And then Monday night.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_03]: happens.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_03]: Porter Moser loses his second opening night game.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: This one a very different circumstance to that Sam Houston state game a couple years ago.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_03]: That one was like, Oh, God, oh, God, oh, God, it all fell in the last like four and a half minutes.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: This game Oklahoma's down nine and a half time.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_03]: There's been a nine to run by East Texas Aiden out of the break.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_03]: The Fire Porter Moser chant start to rain down Carson from the student section and maybe the biggest indictment on all of it is, East Texas's best player gets a foul put on him to foul about that probably was not a foul on them, Oklahoma gets the benefit of the weakest flagrant I think I've ever seen in a college basketball game.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_03]: that abruptly ended a 6-0 little jolt from East Texas.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_03]: But that's not even the worst part, Carson.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_03]: The last three minutes of that basketball game.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_03]: We have watched time and time again.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_03]: Mystery bound, no excuse on offense.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_03]: Bad guard play, not calling timeouts.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_03]: But that's usually against like the balers of the world, the Texas techs of the world.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_03]: Not the former techs as it in commerce, now East Texas Aided, what is going on in the athletic department?
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was it was just a puzzling night at the LNC.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there were like you said so many opportunities for you to claw back into that game and they did claw back, but
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: To draw, I think, I believe they were on the bonus, like four minutes into the second half.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: East Texas A&M committed so many fouls and that should have been the easy, I'm no coach, but I know go to the lane, if you've already drawn that many fouls, go to the lane, get to the line.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: The caveat, caveat, caveat of that is they missed 15 free throws.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's...
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's JV high school numbers.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's really bad.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: You can't see that and it wasn't just your big men missing.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was BJ Edwards.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Guard transfer from SMU gets all the rave reviews in the world coming any year.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: He misses for individually.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: Kai Rogers missed too.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of the other guards missed a couple too.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it was it was a horrible night there.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: they get down like you said the 16 points to an east Texas A&M.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be first game, first game generous, first game rust.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's college basketball in this area.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: They're so much turnover with the portal.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's not all that surprising to see a slow start last year against St. Francis.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: It was a pretty close game at half time, but they rolled in the second half.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: That was kind of similar to a lot of the early season games last year.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: But to have a slow start, let them get.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: out to 16.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: Come all the way back just to lose.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's easily no question the worst loss of the Porter Moser era arguably the worst loss in OU men's basketball history.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: This beats the Sam Houston state loss by a mile.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: Sam Houston state that's still a bad loss don't give me wrong but that's at least a program that has had success.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: at the middle major level they usually recruit some good talent like you said East Texas A and them this is only their second year I believe being called East Texas A and M only their third or fourth playing D1 basketball so this one was it was frankly puzzling well and in the back who in the
- 7:06[SPEAKER_03]: Porter Moser has been begging and begging and begging for resources and what was the first call that new athletic director Roger Denny had to make when he arrived in Norman.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: What do I do with Porter Moser?
- 7:19[SPEAKER_03]: What do I do with this basketball program?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_03]: He comes out and talks about that we don't believe that
- 7:24[SPEAKER_03]: the resources have met the expectations, so how can you hold that against him?
- 7:29[SPEAKER_03]: He later as we talk to him more, talked about he didn't want to be a quick trigger guy.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: If you believe in the people that are in charge, you need to help the people that are in charge.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_03]: And you put that in the back drop of, I know that it was a Joe Harris extension for Brit Minibles,
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: We talked to our journey, they were very far down the way.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_03]: They pause, they picked it back up.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_03]: I still believe that that's mostly a Joe Harris, but you look at the football program and it's the same thing.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_03]: We believe in the people that are installed, we need to give them resources, things like that.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_03]: And you fast forward eight games into Roger Dinis.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_03]: First football season, Oklahoma, and they're having to fire the offensive coordinator and Brent Metables has to rally the troops to extend a bull street job.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_03]: It is not a good start.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: to Roger Denny slash Joe Harris be in fully without the training wheels that was jokingly owned with this act like department skip Johnson is not busy during basketball season is he can coach get him out there I don't know what everybody's so worried about their expanding the NCAA tournament right oh he's got to get in the NCAA tournament with everybody gets in now right is that is that overstating things what black monday is what we're going to call this.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: From the firing of your offensive coordinator for the second time in three years to that meltdown East Texas A&M I just looked at the box score again, I couldn't believe my eyes East Texas A&M comes into the Lloyd Noble Center the house that Alvin Adams built the house that starred women to his day of Stacey King, all those guys late Griffin.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: And they got 14 offensive remains to get the Oklahoma had 15 turnovers and had seven shot blocks shots blocked by East Texas A&M, which is their second year.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: You said they've been called East Texas A&M before that they were Texas A&M commerce or something like that.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know, man, oh, you coaching right now, it's in football and it means basketball.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: We really don't know, okay, what's Roger Denny going to do?
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: What's going to be his role in this?
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: His role is going to be whatever Joe Harris tells him to do.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Now, what's Joe Harris role in this?
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Is Randall Stevenson still pulling his strings?
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Because if it is, then he's going to be making, he's going to be the guy that wants to make the changes on his level.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_03]: it uh it brings into question right now Ryan that for so long and this is a different area of college athletics but for so long you had David Boren who was not perfect by any means any stretch of the imagination.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_03]: You had jokes to go on, not perfect but he hit way more than he missed and then you had Bob Stoops and while Bob Stoops a more motivated Bob Stoops to
- 10:17[SPEAKER_03]: Cali, it's still a guy that was able to bring Oklahoma football back in the bad years were few and far between and outside a really one incredibly injured year they never were this bad Ryan and now you look at it and it just becomes a real real question about like what is the trajectory of again it's the two major revenue sports we're talking about at the top it's not I don't think a
- 10:45[SPEAKER_03]: But if you don't get these two right, it's gonna become that for some of the other programs because you're gonna have so many resources dedicated to coaches that are not coaching or potentially on-down the line executives that are not executing at 80 more at the University of Oklahoma.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you can, you can forgive the Bernoulli's vennable's extension, like you mentioned, it's Joke, Stigley, own extension.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think, you can understand.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: You can understand.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, Joe Harris, excuse me, but you can understand the reasons that he gave for, you know, keeping Porter Mosier on board.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: But the way that Roger Denier reacts to this is
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: going to be probably the defining moment of moments of his legacy as athletic director.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I know it seems almost silly to say this early, but if you mess these up like you said, things can snowball and you've got to throw so much
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: resources, so many resources, so much money at fixing football and men's basketball, that it becomes much more difficult to sustain and build the success that you've got in softball in baseball, in women's gymnastics, in men's gymnastics, and do what they're trying to do in soccer and tennis as well.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: It just becomes just almost impossible to do all those things.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: And do, you know, the right things to move those two programs forward, then you can be in a really good position to, you know, build on the vision that Roger Denny laid out when he was introduced, but, you know, we'll see ultimately where this goes, but certainly a bad, bad week for Oklahoma athletics and Roger Denny in particular.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: paper, you're a million percent correct, and I want to refresh people's memories about 1995, 1996, 1997, 98, on the OU campus, Bob Stoops tells the story perfectly.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: He says, he was walked on to the practice field, and they were chicken bones, and the practice field.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: What the hell is this?
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, well, that's where we let the fans tailgate before again.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: You let them tailgate on the practice field?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what's wrong with that?
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't know what they didn't know back in the 1990s, okay?
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: So that's part of John Blake, you know, being hired right behind Schnell and Burger, which was also those both weird hires.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: But Bob Stoops basically with that 2,000 national championship, he basically built, you know, boring gets all the credit for it, but it's Bob Stoops who built the east deck, right?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, the indoor training center.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: got heading to hall built, got some other residential, you know, he started that, hey, we can do this.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: We're all you again.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're, we're, you know, we've got greatness in our DNA.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's just totally flipped the way the athletic department looked at itself.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: And the way the state of Oklahoma and sooner or later, the sooner nation, all the millions of sooner fans considered their school.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was rough there for about 10 years.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: The last few, last four or five years of Gary Gibbs,
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: The one-year channel in Burger in the three years of John Blake, Bob came in and turned everything on its side.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's what you're looking at.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: long-term in the future, you know, I'm talking 20, 25, 30 years down the road, we're sitting here now talking about what happened in 1999 to 2000, right, 2001, 2002, because those were defining moments.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: This right here is the defining moment of the next possibly 25 years.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to get this football back, turned around, some way somehow, and then basketball, yeah, hop on, you know, get on the train, let's go, you're, you're
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: They got to get a fixed.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: And it turns back to Brent Venables and what the task it hands gonna be for Oklahoma.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_03]: And they're walking down two different paths here.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: The first one is obviously the short term you got four games left in the regular season.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_03]: Your head into the swamp this week.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_03]: Jason Witton, the Titans Coach, is now the interim OC in place of BitR buckle.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_03]: That is the short term.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_03]: The long term is this offensive coordinator search.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm going to take a big idea and condense it down.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_03]: So follow me for a second.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_03]: Don't just do the knee jerk reaction for the initial words.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_03]: But when Oklahoma started to move to the SEC, the people not around here would make fun.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma, you're going to, you're going to Nebraska yourself stuff like that.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_03]: And everyone pointed out multiple times that it wasn't just.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_03]: one move to the big tin or a bunch of or one bad coach, it was a series of bad decisions sustained over a decade that led Nebraska back to where it is, where maybe they're finally turning the corner just to respect ability under Matt rule.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_03]: Not talking about Oklahoma, it's about Brett Venables.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_03]: Brett Venables, if he does not succeed at Oklahoma, it's not gonna be one singular thing.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_03]: It would like Nebraska have to be a pattern of bad decisions, things like that Carson.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_03]: With Seth Blattrell, right?
- 15:50[SPEAKER_03]: It started with the decision to try and promote from internal instead of conducting a true out-now coordinator service when Jeff Levy left from Mississippi State.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_03]: You try to go, oh, we'll just take, we have Jeff Levy's playbook in our hands.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_03]: We'll marry it with Kevin Wilson and the stuff that Seth Blattrell did in the past.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be the speed of whole marriage, disaster, awful.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_03]: bad decision.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_03]: Britain will set it as such the week of the Ole Miss press conference two years ago.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_03]: You firepin our buckle.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_03]: Now it's time to re-rack.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_03]: Going to have to go out there, find you an offensive coordinator and that's where it becomes if you make another bad decision off of the Benarbuckle hiring.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_03]: That is where Britain enables Nebraska to himself and for him that means he's not going to have a job.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_03]: Basically it's the head coach.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_03]: It's a crucial, crucial moment feels like the second time in three years that we're like Britain enables.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_03]: Gotta get this right if you want to keep everybody employed on your staff.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: Totally agree with you.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is a high-pressure decision.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's a high-pressure situation for a guy like Britney Dinnables that Jeff Levy was great at some good things as the offensive coordinator.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: But other than that, the offenses have not been up to the Oklahoma standard.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you look at the identity of Oklahoma football that's just totally flip from what it was in the 2010s where defense was kind of an afterthought and that OU's offense was of course
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: So much pressure on finding the right guy and not only finding the right guy, getting the right talent around him, being able to work collaboratively with him.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: So much of it, there's so much that we don't know about what went down with Ben Arbuckle, why that didn't work, just seeing his previous success at his past stops.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, he has to be on the same page and not just hire the right guy, but be on the same page with him, because
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a little dramatic to say, okay, I'll use on path to be the next Nebraska, but if the wrong things happen, I mean, it's very possible, too.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this conference is stacked.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you have money, but there are teams in this conference in several of them that can out bid Oklahoma.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: So it really does come down to getting the right personnel with written intervals, because if it doesn't happen that way, then they really do have to start from square one.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_03]: And I'll be clear, preventable sister Braskin.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's not the Braskin.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: Sure, preventables crit.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_03]: Hit's going to be good because he can't do that.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: I was just going to say, I think your proclamation that the Braskin is heading in the right direction might be, uh,
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: Disfeated a little bit, especially by the fans who were getting after Matt rules daughter, which is one of the most despicable things I've heard in a long, long time.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's better than the Scott Frost era though, which I know we're like, that's where Nebraska has gone that simply being normal bad instead of embarrassing on the field bad, now they're just embarrassing themselves off the field, neither here nor there.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_03]: which is overall a positive, great job, everyone.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_03]: It leads us to Tuesday, Ryan, which I thought was going to be another one of those moments, right?
- 18:56[SPEAKER_03]: Print Vennables, we see the recruiter print Vennables at times where he's able to get in there and rally the troops.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of people loved his response, Georgia week, I came in and was just like, guys, how many times do you have to go in there and be like, I feel really good about this.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_03]: And they play like dog on the field on Saturdays because you know, printables is the head coach.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: And that's exactly what happened there.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: We did not get that verse to print venables on Tuesday.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: The last time he can't do so, see, because he can't make a no see hire.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_03]: He was actually like willing to talk about it.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: And he was not really talking about Seth Lattrell.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_03]: You kind of got some of the same stuff that you got about Benarbuckle,
- 19:30[SPEAKER_03]: everyone wants it to work.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it's always really tough.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_03]: I get that.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_03]: But he was able to articulate, like, maybe some things that you didn't feel like he did correctly.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_03]: He was able to, uh, he was at least willing to talk about what he's looking for an offense outside.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_03]: Now he did give a word salad two years ago, uh, he threw out all the cliches, but I thought preventables gave a bizarre press conference on Tuesday.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_03]: Monday night on the coach's show and credit to Chris Plankin and Teddy Layman for trying to get everything they could out of Brent Venomals.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: That's a really tough spot.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_03]: If the head coach doesn't want to talk and you're on the suitors sports talk with Brent Venomals, suitors sports talk and you're getting paid.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_03]: whether it's through Learfield or not, to go up there and be company, like that's a tough spot.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: In Teddy Layman, I think he's done a really good job over the years of getting stuff out of Brett Vendibles when Brett doesn't want to talk.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_03]: Tuesday, Brett comes in and he immediately, so George gets the first question,
- 20:25[SPEAKER_03]: He asks a very basic, uh, oh, no, you suck again.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_03]: What have you learned?
- 20:30[SPEAKER_03]: That kind of thing.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: And Brett pretty quickly pivots to like, I want to talk about Florida, but I'll begrudially answer the rest of this.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_03]: And then he was super short with every single person that tried to ask what actually matters, which is why can't you hire an offensive coordinator?
- 20:45[SPEAKER_03]: No one gives a rip about Florida or the next three games outside if you don't win those games, I will be very in-may that he should be fired and shouldn't get a chance to end or use bolstery.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_03]: But that's the thing that here and over there Ryan.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: Why does Brett Vettable think that that can fly that he could just like pretend like it's not happening and that he didn't totally crater his teeth by hiring another terrible offensive coordinator?
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was bizarre.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_02]: It was, you know, the football team and they're up and down is sort of a mimicked Brent Minibull's press conferences because it seems like every other week recently.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: It just goes off on this tangent or has a really weird vibe.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: It just doesn't feel like some of the things that we've seen from Brent Vittables in the past when they've had difficulties.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, you know, they've been through this before and at those times, I thought Brent Vittables handled it about as well as you could have.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: But the one question that he didn't really,
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: You know, cut short with his answer was when he was asked what he's looking for in the next offense, because he pretty much said everything.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, ah, we can score fast.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: We can score slow.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: We can, you know, I don't care.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was just this bizarre rundown of pretty much every way that you can run an offense.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: And it just seems like
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: a rudder to the ship at this point in a lot of ways and you know this you know like I said with Roger Denny this being a defining moment for him and I think it's certainly a defining moment for Brent Vendels he will not get a chance to hire another offensive coordinator as soon he gets a chance to hire this one but it was just a really bizarre way to handle it for a guy who
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: that he was going to get, you know, one or two questions about Florida, uh, from, you know, the, the usual people who ask about the opponents, no matter what, uh, but everything else was going to be about the offensive coordinator and what the vision was moving forward.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: And it just didn't seem like, uh, Brent Venables was there to, uh,
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: sell, not sell us, but sell OU fans on what his vision for this football program for this offense is moving forward.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: You guys know, I'm a big press conference guy.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I made my bones as a young reporters and press conferences.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's where I learned how to stick to people and not let them escape questions and obeyed and avoid and all that.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: This preventable press conference guys was 20 minutes long, 20 minutes.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's the by far the shortest that we've had,
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: uh, on a Tuesday with him.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Mike, how, you know, God bless him, usually he's like having to remind us one question in each.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: Please don't ask a follow-up.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: We'll try to get to as many as we can because Brett talks so long.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: With this time, he was recycling.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: You want to go again?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: You want another question?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think Barry got what he was for.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Who's that?
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think Barry got three or four.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think Cliff got three or four.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the,
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: It was impressive that Brent was able to keep all his answers.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: What type like that?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: Well, when you don't do something, it's really easy to keep the answer.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: You just refuse to answer the question.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to talk about that.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, there was one time one of Barry's questions that he didn't even listen to the question or even seemed to comprehend what was being asked.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: He just got defensive right off the bat.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: And it was just,
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: just weird.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: He did tell Barry when he asked about the gators.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Great question, actually.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then he went back and said, I Barry, you should give yourself some credit for, you know, knowing a little bit more than you think, you know, stuff like that.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: But the way he responded to the first question was just odd.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was odd.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was weird.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: You can tell he was, he was a little bit scarred up, I think, from
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: having to fire his offensive coordinator again.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's, you know, you take the measure of a man.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: You look at the whole person, Brent's an emotional guy.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's emotionally invested and everything he does.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, he's, he's heartened right now.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's, he's having a tough time.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Tuesday rolls around.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: I know he's making $10.5 million a year.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody has any pity for Brent Reynolds.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: but Tuesday rolls around and he has to show up and here's 30 reporters in his face.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: I got a question.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: I got a question calling me.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: I got a question, you know that.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: But it wasn't like, sorry, who it wasn't like what was being asked were out of left field questions.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: These are questions that he had to know where's coming.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think even if he came into it, like he did two years ago, after firing a set of trail, and you know, handled it like that, he would have been okay.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you fans want to like Brent Venables.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you fans want to believe in Brent Venables.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't a coach that's hated by the fanbase because of the person that he is, the personality that he is.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, when things like this happen, it sort of erodes that belief, I think, in a way, and it's really difficult to get back.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's not a Tom Herman Texas situation, right?
- 26:06[SPEAKER_03]: Which we all got to take in from afar.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_03]: And there is something to be said, if you're in a spot where you don't want to box yourself in.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_03]: So of course, in principle, if you're asked, what kind of offense do you want?
- 26:18[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 26:19[SPEAKER_03]: And you really lay out that you want this pro style, we're going to run the football stuff like that.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_03]: And then Mitch Donald at Oregon State calls you and says, I will work for you for free because I am so passionate about this and that and the other.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe you strike out on some other guys because they don't want to come and back you into some of the stuff we talked about a couple of years ago.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_03]: what is the candidate list ideally now what's the candidate list now that the context of you're on the hot seat of things don't go all stuff like that.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_03]: I could understand in that scenario for a young hot shot guy who doesn't run the ball in Oregon state but it's number one on like every of the character you're not trying to like box yourself in.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_03]: But to say everything and here was the thing when Brett Vanderbilt said I don't care how fast or slow we go.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_03]: The one coordinator you've had success with, you got into multiple bus stops with on the sidelines, the OUSM U-game, Brent Bittable Smith, the entire second half screaming into the headset at Jeff Levy, because they were going so fast.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_03]: The Bedlam game, we're Oklahoma rushes out to a tournament nothing lead, and then just,
- 27:20[SPEAKER_03]: traitors is not offense because they were doing the God in 60 seconds and it cage offense.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_03]: It was of course like we know that's not true.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like it doesn't have to be a slow, but the article eight and a half minutes every single time.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: Like break intervals is cool with that.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: But like we know he has some thoughts on the tempo.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: He would like like that's just a lie.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: Break intervals again.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_03]: Just lying at the podium.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I felt like to a response.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of his more
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the right word is, but defensive, just disingenuous press conferences, and not particularly honest about the offense with us, and I mean, he's a defensive guy.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about that time and time again.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: He does not want to go up there and talk about the offense, even games where
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you wins 14 to 6.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: He'd rather talk about how the defense screwed up than the offense, putting up 14 points against New Mexico, whoever the opponent may be.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, part of that's not too surprising, but you'd like to hear something a little bit more clear about his direction, the pace,
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not even specific style like you.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's probably a good idea not to box yourself into much There are a lot of good minds out there that could be candidates for the job.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: I thought who's list that he wrote a couple days ago Had some really good names ones that would be intriguing the for Oklahoma to pick up So from that standpoint, I totally get not being too specific, but
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: As a head coach, there's something a little bit more descriptive.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like you could give to make the fanbase that are accrued to ever.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: It may be if you're better about this question mark.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_03]: Ryan, is this an unfair thing?
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: So coaches are never 100% truthful, and that's any coach across the board, any press conference.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_03]: You find a coach, maybe long career.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: Let's throw a lot into the side.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: Long, long to do on this truly like, come watch practice.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_03]: I don't care, welcome boys.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_03]: But almost every coach, sorry, my dog is chasing a squirrel out here, and I got distracted.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_03]: Almost every coach comes in, and they try to like, peel back the curtain a little bit, they try to be, but at times here and there, something or another at some point, everyone's gonna,
- 29:24[SPEAKER_03]: either just lie or be a little disingenuous.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: Is Brett Venables coming in and yada yada him at the offense?
- 29:34[SPEAKER_03]: when you talk about what he wants.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: Is this because it's like a tactic to not box yourself in, he didn't want to talk about it?
- 29:41[SPEAKER_03]: Or does print criminals not truly know what he wants with his offense?
- 29:46[SPEAKER_03]: Because at Brady and I have talked about this, and maybe this is people that have been watching Oklahoma football for a really long time and watching it through a certain lens.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: But it really feels like to me,
- 29:57[SPEAKER_03]: That in the moments where he's not under fire, and you go back and see Brent vinnables talk about what he wants from his offense, he's describing to me what sounds like a the modern pro style offense, a group that wants to come in, wants to run the football,
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: Doesn't go full spread has the ability to have a quarter act to come in and make plays not like a game manager An offense that if it needs to hurry up, it can in very specific moments, but for the most part once to play a little ball could you kind of like the Buster Faulkner offense to a certain next time if it feels like though And be the part tell me this fair not that
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: He saw Bob come in and hire air raid guy after air raid guy and in his mind it was almost like that's the that's what I'm a defensive coordinator that often Scared me trouble that's I'm gonna hire and it seems like it almost feels like he has this like
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: Well, this is how Bob won a ton of games here at Oklahoma.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: And so even though I want to hire a more pro style offense, I'm going to go back to the air raid guy and Ben R. Buckle.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe Ben R. Buckle fed a little bit in his introductory meetings and interview processes.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, well, look at how I run the ball at Washington state.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_03]: I've got some more run game to even air raid stuff.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_03]: And he would talk to us about that.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_03]: He did his air raid card pooled early early early.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_03]: But is it that or was it just that Ben R. Buckle just didn't work
- 31:20[SPEAKER_03]: you're back to the drawing board.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think there could be something to that.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, college football is just so much different from any time in the Bob soups era that you can't really, you know, even though there are guys that are still around and successful from that era, for sure,
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's really hard to draw on what helped those teams win versus what can help you now.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I think Brent Venables might get sucked into that a little bit.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's something I think a lot of people fall into that it's really difficult to move past things that have been really successful for you in the past.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: But I just thought,
- 32:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, not being able to sell a clear idea of what you want for your offense and even general terms was a red flag for me for you know, what we heard from Monday's press conference.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_03]: It certainly, as we said, sets up for a fascinating little run here as Oklahoma heads to the swamp for the very first time, but before we dive into the Jason Whitten of it all and what that's going to look like, really want to remind you about our good friends over at
- 32:37[SPEAKER_03]: Custler, dental guys, you wouldn't want to send your starting lineup on to the field without taking care of them.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: Your teeth deserve the exact same treatment.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: Custler, dental provides comprehensive dental care for the whole family, right in East Edmund after a week and full of wings, soda, football and game day snacks.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_03]: Your teeth might need a little attention to schedule your next cleaning at Custler, dental in East Edmund, right off 535, easy in, easy out.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_03]: Great access plenty of parking.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's not tough at all to get to from anywhere in the metro area.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_03]: You might be tough enough to play through an injury, but don't try to play through a two-thake.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_03]: If something doesn't feel right, call our friends over at Kessler Dinnom in East Edmund.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: The corresponding move, obviously, with Ben Arbuckle getting canned, was Jason Whitten is the guy that's going to take this thing over.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_03]: I was a little bit surprised, John, that it wasn't a spot where
- 33:31[SPEAKER_03]: You've got Kevin Wilson waiting in the wings.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_03]: Could you have called upon Kevin Wilson and everybody else's job?
- 33:37[SPEAKER_03]: stay a little bit more the same, not having to take on extra duties, but I do think is Brett Venibals kind of talked about it on Monday night and a little bit on Tuesday, him talking about as he surveyed the staff, someone that was eager, chopping at the bit.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_03]: It really feels like Jason Whitten might have been in a respectful way.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_03]: The guy to kind of linger around Brett Venibals office and maybe pop his head in and go, uh,
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, just you know it tough spot for everybody, but if you I called play it's last year remember that I know it was high school, but I'm really excited to come in and you didn't think of any boss like that kind of I think that Jason Whitten who is a very ambitious guy and if this goes well for him
- 34:18[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I think that Jerry Jones might call him, which would be just fun for all of it.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_03]: We can go through my what I personally am rooting for for the rest of the Pokemon football season because ah, it would be fun for me, but I am intrigued to see what does the Jason wouldn't experience look like with the understanding that like, he's not putting a new offense.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, he's work with what he's got, but like we saw with Joe John back in that Ole Miss game,
- 34:39[SPEAKER_03]: He at least Joe John was able to identify here's the four or five plays that we're going to try and get real good at and we'll try to build the rest of our offense from obviously the place that everyone knows, but build confidence in those simplified things and maybe you can get going.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder what kind of look that Jason Witton's going to be able to bring and maybe if it's kind of that that same vibe.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good question.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: Um, we're ready and I discussed this a little bit on our Monday reaction video to the firing and the news that Jason Witton was was going to be
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know this for sure, but just knowing these guys personally, knowing them professionally, knowing them as coaches.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: My guess is Brent Vanillables, he didn't go to bed on Saturday night and go about his business on Sunday and then wake up Monday morning and say, I guess I'll point Jason Whitten.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: He was up for probably most of the stretch of 72 hours between the end of the football game and the press conference.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: And he was, I have,
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: I would be shocked, I'll put it this way, I would be shocked if he didn't call Kevin Wilson first and say, can you help us out?
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: And Kevin probably would have, I don't know why he didn't, or why he's not being been appointed.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: I would guess Kevin probably looked at the roster and the quarterback and the offensive line and said, I don't know, man, I'm 65, I don't really want to take that on right now.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's possible.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying, I'm speculating totally speculating.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: did, did Brent, like, say, does anybody else want the job?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, everybody raises their hands.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right, meet me in my office ten minutes, you know, one of those scenarios.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: I would like to, I would like to have been a fly on the wall to, to watch that thing unfold how the dynamics work between, you know, who he went to first and where, what questions he asked and who wants to do it?
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: Because, I mean, for, you know, he's the head coach at, was it
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Liberty Christian in our ground, Liberty Christian in our, our, our, thank you.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: Um, he was the head coach and play caller and offensive coordinator and, you know, his son obviously plays, but, uh, gosh, I just, he, he should be an upgrade.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: Don't, wouldn't you think when you, when you start thinking of where the offense is, 130th in several categories,
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: And they're better than that.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, we saw it in August.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: We saw it in February and March last year.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are better than that.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: So put a new offensive coordinator in, call in some old place from high school, maybe spring something on somebody, maybe connects to the place, maybe he actually finds out what,
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: works against certain teams or certain defenses or certain schemes or certain blitzes and then exploits that as opposed to what we've seen the last two years.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe get it.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: I expect a little bit of a spike.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't expect because we've seen these mid-season firing is the last what four years under rentables.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I'm not under rentables.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking us back to 2018 defensive coordinator.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Stoops was fired after the Texas game.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: We saw an immediate spike, but it leveled out quick and was back at the bottom by the end of the season.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing happened with Joe John Finley as the mid-season interim offensive coordinator.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: If it happens again, it wouldn't be a surprise, but I do expect a little improvement on Saturday and Florida.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_03]: the spike lasted two quarters, it Oxford for Joe John, but they didn't have the Alabama game.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder Carson and Brentner will talk about Kevin Wilson he'll still believe there he'll be something to lean upon.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_03]: He'll be involved in the help of the collaboration.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_03]: But I think the other thing I looked at and part of it is when he was hiring Jason Whitton, I'm sure they had,
- 38:32[SPEAKER_03]: bigger picture conversations about what do you want to do in football and Jason, what I think wants to be a big time.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_03]: Head coach that probably involved like, yeah, I'd like to court day and like lay out his path at some point.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think Brent's probably thinking like, a really impressive guy, no, he's his ambition.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_03]: But be part of something else that Brent has leaned on both on the coach's show on Monday night and Tuesday press conferences talked about like, it's got to be someone that's got good relationships and some some accountability or not some accountability, but some built in like trust with the players.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_03]: And as you look across the offensive staff, let's just go down the line.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_03]: John Kuzioski, what does he do?
- 39:07[SPEAKER_03]: The quarter-axe are getting worse.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that if you appoint him as the guy that's been next to Ben Arbuckle, so kind of knows the offense, but it's good.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think any of the players can be like, yeah, let's listen to this guy, because John material has been awesome.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_03]: Bill Beanbow, he's on his way out.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_03]: You would hope.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_03]: Emmet Jones, he's on his way out.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_03]: You would hope if Oklahoma is in the aspiration.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_03]: Dylan McColle, his group I think it's an incomplete, just because
- 39:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's so dependent on the offensive line.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's not been awesome.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not here to give them a gold star, but I mean, who's going to run behind the disaster that they'll be in both and put on the field?
- 39:37[SPEAKER_03]: And then, Jason, like Rocky Bears, good.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_03]: Hayden Hansen's had some good moments.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: Had some not as good moments, but I don't think that Hayden Hansen's been this like dark spot for the eye.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_03]: I think he might look at and be like, what's the one guy on this offensive staff that all the players can look at and go?
- 39:51[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that guy's not been a negative.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_03]: This year, that's Jason Whitney and his tight in-room.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's got to be either that or the running backs like you said.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's hard to pin a lot of the struggles in the running game on, avoid a bonge, Jonathan Hatton Tory play like I think all of them are probably solid backs, but it's hard for anybody to be good behind this line.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: But I think tight ends probably the best answer to seeing the immediate production that Rocky Bears has had leading this team and touchdown receptions.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, Hayden hand some more of a blocker, but he's been really solid for the most part
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: from 2025 to 2026.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: That is the position group on offense that has taken the biggest step forward.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's that's something you probably like to see if you're an OU fan, young guy.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of an audition for the offensive coordinator role, not saying that he will be the guy.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: Everything's on the table, according to Brent Vinnable.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I think this is a real opportunity for him to get creative, throw some new guys out there that we haven't seen much of, wink, wink, quarterback.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of people would like to see that see what both Bentley has, maybe with new hours, see if there's something better.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: And if there's not, it's not like they're playing for something huge at this point.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think best case scenario for this year's,
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: eight and four in the Vegas pool.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: You would certainly take that considering how the season's gone, but I think that's a long shot even if this team plays much better football with Ole Miss and road games at Florida and Missouri still on the schedule, but I think I think we're more than anything just needs to get creative, show his offensive mind as he tries out for this bigger role.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_03]: Florida Ole Miss and Missouri.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_03]: All ranked in the initial rankings of the Joshua playoff, which we did not have to take in last night because Oklahoma was going to pop up.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_03]: Who just not know this, but if Oklahoma does rally and go eight and four and make the Vegas bowl, I am on the hook for a large section of tickets for the U.B., I committed to buying everyone tickets to Raiders Titans this Sunday before.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_03]: I felt pretty good that I will not be spending that money, but we will see, we'll see, and that gets to what I want to talk about next, which is as Carson alluded to.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: some of the changes that might or might not come.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_03]: Monday night, Brett Venables was very much not wanting to talk about really anything, obviously, because why have accountability for this when you preach accountability?
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: The Brett Venables way.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: Certainly, the offense has not had much accountability.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_03]: Ben Arbuckle finally got some of that.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Man, wouldn't this be an incredible spot?
- 42:21[SPEAKER_03]: to have played with new power or bobitnly in the fourth quarter in Athens and again that you had no shot of coming back in from the second that jomits here handed Georgia its second touchdown off the turnover or man wouldn't have been awesome to get one of those two guys some reps on Saturday against South Carolina instead of the moronic like
- 42:41[SPEAKER_03]: oh well the office is starting to move now so you gotta keep those it wouldn't be good to bench the guy that didn't move the ball and had you know like a hundred and changed total yards through three quarters uh it now becomes a spot where uh Britvettable said clean slate for everybody everything's on the table but we believe in John yaddiaddiada in a weird way as much as I'm like I don't know if it's gonna be better but I'd like to watch something else as someone uh
- 43:09[SPEAKER_03]: all of this team.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_03]: It almost feels like an impossible spot to do anything other than like geometry is going to start you would assume maybe now finally he does have a leash though if things don't go well at the swamp.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing is I wouldn't necessarily anticipate a quarterback change immediately, but it can't be just we're going to dig our heels then and stick with this guy.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, he was going to go out and transfer portal and get another
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: But when you like to have both Bentley stick around and actually want to play for you, when you like to have Witt Nu-Bout our next year is a brick glass in case of emergency type of guy.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_02]: And you risk losing those guys if you haven't already.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: If you just dig your heels in, the Georgia game to me was defensible.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: because of the time of the season and also just you don't want to throw in especially a true freshman like Bob Bentley into that situation.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: I get that.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: But Saturday against South Carolina just didn't make any sense on any level.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I wonder if it wasn't, hey, Brent Minnable said, hey, you want to do this and when he said, let's keep John material, then that was maybe the final straw.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: that broke the back of, hey, we got to make a change here if we're not gonna make a change at quarterback.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't necessarily think again that they'll throw out Bobentley or Whitnewbauer, but I wrote about this a little bit today, looking back into that old misgame.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: One of the things that Joe John Finley did was use Jackson Arnold Moore's a runner.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: Then he had been really to that point as part of that group of plays and They were able to have some success there.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: We saw John material in the games that owe you was good at offensively or as good as they were last year offensively
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: especially after the injury where games were geometry was effective with his legs and we haven't really seen that to much degree this year saw a little bit in the Michigan game but really outside of that haven't seen it a ton I wonder if that's something they lean on a little bit more heavily here you know moving forward and especially on Saturday and Florida.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_03]: Here is what I think might be the the most difficult part of Jason Witton and this offensive staffs job.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_03]: And this is something that Brent Venibals talked about when Abraham I had to tag team to get one decenance or out of them talking about what did you learn about helping an interim staff.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_03]: But
- 45:43[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I was hoping that maybe he would understand that I was asking about how do you make reach your goal, which is to win games and things like that and he just heard two years ago and blacked out as he did with Barry.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_03]: But, uh, something that he talked about is that those guys, they have to be empowered to be decisive.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that this is going to be the test for that Ryan because if Oklahoma goes out there and they start moving the ball and things like that, then it becomes looking to
- 46:10[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever, if the bottom falls out at some point, you can make a fourth quarter change, which is not like a death sentence to John, it's a bit like what we've seen.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_03]: If John material goes out there and turns the ball over early, that becomes a very easy sit down my guy, it's not you anymore evict hit the eject button all that stuff Ryan.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_03]: How difficult is this going to be if the game starts like it did against South Carolina though, where John material is not turning the ball over, but he is holding onto the football, not throwing in the direction of open receivers.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_03]: How do you think Jason Witton's going to handle that?
- 46:48[SPEAKER_03]: Because the offense didn't move and it's grounds we had pulled, but that's a little less obvious than John material does a pic six and it's a tire fire.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think you're just going back to, you know, Jason Witton in this situation that he's in, I think to me, the great of Jason Witton is not as much about production and points and all that stuff, because this offense isn't going to change fundamentally what it is at this point in the season, but it's about.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: the adaptability and the ability to, you know, react to difficulties along the way, things like what you were talking about with John material, if he's not able to do that, you see that, you get him out, you see that, you put, you
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: go with plays that put him in a position to get out of the things that you're the bad habits that you're seeing him fall into.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, it might not even be something that we can see watching the game, but I think it's stuff that Brent Vittables should be at least keeping an eye on, because while I don't think Jason Witton is going to be the next offensive coordinator,
- 48:04[SPEAKER_02]: in a place like the NFL or, you know, a power conference team at this level, you know, so I think, you know, there, there is certainly a level of audition here, but it goes beyond just points and yards.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Ryan Garcia, you mentioned earlier that going into the fourth quarter stats against South Carolina,
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you had 118 total yards.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: John Matier had 10 completions for 47 yards.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: What of those 10 completions?
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like four of them were zero yard gains to Isaiah satania.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: So if he's doing stuff like that again and the receivers are running open down field and he's not seeing him, he's not trusting him and he's not trusting his protection.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: You might have to make a move.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: You might have to say, listen, I know you haven't thrown four interceptions.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: I know you don't have, you don't have any fix exist today.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see somebody else and here's a deal.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I guess the light is on now for them to be able to make that move.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think they've got the green light because if they make a move now and the next guy stinks or regardless of whether because they haven't made any moves at all, whether the next guy is good, whether it's both Bentley or Witton or Terrible.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't made any moves at all.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: So now if they make a move all of a sudden it's a, hey John, come over here.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: For give yourself, you know, we're going to, we're going to give you a break.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see what these other guys got.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's not your fault.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: We fired coach our buckle.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: Everything's going to be fine.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's what they can test.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they can project on the media is that, well, you know, we fixed the problem.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then so.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: We've taken the quarterback off the field now.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, those other guys, they played pretty good.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: Bob Bentley came in and threw three touchdown passes in the third quarter.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: That was, that's just what we needed.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's this kind of spin they can put on this, moving forward with if the decision does get made to put John material on the bench.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just, I'm with you Ryan.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: I thought,
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: as the Georgia game was slipping away, you know, as the South Carolina game had slipped away.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: Who cares how many passing yards John material has?
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, let's give those young guys in there see what they can do.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: You haven't tested them once all season.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're still sitting there with the training wheels on.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: They have no idea what to expect when they step on the football field.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's just been a real misunderstanding.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a perfect example of on carry on.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_01]: But what, in the Jones, have you, have you met a von Cariel?
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's one of your receivers.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's the big one, six foot six, two hundred thirty pounds.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: Why is he in game eight, having the best game of his career when he played six snaps the week before and zero the rest of the season?
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: Where has he been?
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: What have you been looking at in practice?
- 51:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I asked, our buckle, that's what I'd ask.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_01]: Bill Beaton Mode, too.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: What are you guys seeing in practice that makes you put these guys on the field?
- 51:20[SPEAKER_03]: It's puzzling, and of course I guess this is where it becomes the, you would assume everyone's got as we've alluded to earlier the green light to try different stuff because at this point like jobs have already been lost or a job as a fish have been lost jobs will, I mean it's a miracle if everyone on, if everyone on the offensive staff keeps their job.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_03]: Roger should just step in and do a January firing screw this, it doesn't matter what the timelines are in college football, like that's not going to work.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_03]: but it's just a spot where it's something that we saw against Ole Miss for Joe John.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: It was, again, only a half, but Jacob Jordan, who had been one of the only receivers that year in a year where all the receivers were hurt, and they could get open.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_03]: Suddenly, Jacob Jordan's like a key part of the op-eat.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_03]: You would assume that this is a, hey, I know that every coach preaches that your stars don't matter, what we're paying it on matter, whoever can make play.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_03]: For James to it though, this is truly like, who has done a positive thing in SEC play?
- 52:13[SPEAKER_03]: You'll be the guys that get the first crack
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it should definitely be that way.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think they should also lean into a Vaughn Carey on who, like who said came out and nowhere and had a huge game last week against South Carolina granted, almost all of that production came in garbage time when the game was well out of reach, but why wouldn't you give your 6-foot 6-wider see for a little bit more runtime?
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: Why wouldn't you give Rocky Bears who's been as reliable as anyone, a lot of run time down the stretch?
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: Isaiah's a technique with slow against South Carolina, but he's been really good.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's someone to lean on.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_00]: So those should be the main guys that also like to see some more mani choice.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I should promise if he's healthy, stuff like that, just some of the other guys that haven't been used, maybe as much as they should have been.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_00]: Or else a lot of these guys if we're being frank, will probably end up at Mississippi State next year, like, has kind of become a pattern recently.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: And just so just so we're clear, just so I'm clear.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: If they put Bobentley in and he plays representative of a freshman but doesn't have catastrophic turnovers and maybe games are closer or whatever they look like it is so you got to keep those guys under wraps whether they can play or not because you you're all in you've shoved all your chips in on geometry.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I've got bad news, Sean, they already look like idiots because yet again, it's 6 and 6 10 and 2 6 and 6 10 and 2 and now Oklahoma has to split these last two games against three teams in the top 25 to go 6 and 6 step at the time, they took care of Texas, they'd be Texas right number one team in the country, I mean,
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: Texas is a fraud.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: We know that now.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_03]: They did do that.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_03]: And if Twitter's to believe Steve Sarketians is going to be replaced with Lil Stein, a result of what happened across the country at Tuesday.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: But that's either your Texas and Oklahoma going to have a race to Lil Stein.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: That is going to happen here.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that that's quite what's going to go down, but we will see, right, none of that's going to really matter because the offense is dismal and if Oklahoma's defense though shows up and tackles like they did on Saturday, which is they didn't tackle, they didn't tackle at any point.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_03]: You thought that Will Fuller and Lenora Sellers was bad.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_03]: Wait till Jade and Bob gets his hair.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_03]: It'll look like what happened at the swamp a year ago when Texas visited.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_03]: If Oklahoma's defense doesn't find a way to bounce back and mentally get right
- 54:49[SPEAKER_03]: not blaming them whatsoever.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_03]: At some point, you're going to have to let go of their like that defense can't be perfect and the offense is given them nothing all you're long.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_03]: But it just is bad vibes all around on Saturday with the tackling.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they've certainly got to get better with that.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_02]: And they did get better early in the season when I had that issue, the first couple of games.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_02]: So you wouldn't anticipate that being something that would linger.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, with all the offensive woes, at some point, the damn breaks.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't get the sense that the damn was breaking last week with everything that happened.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, not a great performance, but one, the North sellers will make a lot of people look like idiots.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_02]: In, you know, just put OU in such bad positions, tackling wise, and then they weren't able to take advantage of that, but they've got to get so much better.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_02]: The linebackers have got to be better against whichever quarterback Florida plays would anticipate seeing both of them at some point in the game on Saturday.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously that offense has been really, really powerful.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_02]: uh... you know all all year so uh... it's uh... a big challenge uh... for this group uh... but uh... you can't expect them to be perfect but they've got to be much much better than they were against South Carolina to your vocal may any chance in winning in their first trip to the swamp did you guys see the mistackled total by pro football focus twenty five yeah it was uh... brutal
- 56:21[SPEAKER_02]: brutal.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_03]: It was not good and it was from the very first play that maybe should have been the I think I've put that in the immediate take was like the canary in the coal mine was going to be that the very first 17 yard rush for your like Retro raggy.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that that's going to get much better, but we shall see moving on to other things.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_03]: We're just going to stick in the subt for a second and then we can throttle out of that Carson it is
- 56:46[SPEAKER_03]: This is never the words that I want to be speaking, but it's a major bounce back moment for men's basketball as they head to McCaslin against Mississippi Valley state that Delta Devils who they had their fun as well.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_03]: So south of the conference having their fun on X the everything app you look at it and
- 57:08[SPEAKER_03]: Again, game two against an absolute Garbo team, I shouldn't be saying, oh my gosh, this is going to be a very important performance, but it's not about like the scoreboard.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's more about like here's what I want account of how many balls did guys die for on the floor.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_03]: how many times did Oklahoma almost not get a rebound because two guys were so aggressively going forward that they almost like take it from each other like this is like a program game type response when it comes to bouncing back and just showing some kind of juice and energy after they they were more lifeless than when we get together and play basketball at the wide on Monday night.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was, I mean, we talked about it on the intro.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_00]: It was bad.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_00]: We need to see a lot more made free throws, a lot fewer misses, fewer turnovers in transition.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's something that got East Texas A&M ahead or early put OU behind the April.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_00]: Guys just being careless with the wall trying to move it down the court.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_00]: That was bad.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_00]: Whether Xavier Brown plays in this game or not, obviously he missed the East Texas A&M game, that does not excuse the loss, with or without him, they should win that game a hundred times out of a hundred.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_00]: Whether he plays or not, the offense needs to be a lot more cohesive, Pope I6 and Dayton foresight need to be better running the guard position, so there's just a laundry list of things that need to be better, because I mean, in the scheme of things,
- 58:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is not me trying to be a sunshine pumper at all.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_00]: It is one game.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_00]: They have a ton of quad one opportunities, but the team that we saw play against East Texas A and M the other night.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's a team that could lose every single game in conference play.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot that has to be fixed.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_00]: Thankfully for them, this Mississippi Valley State team, they're more notorious for their Twitter account.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_00]: Then their basketball team, they're historically bad.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_00]: They went about two or three
- 59:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you oddly enough struggled in the first half against the Delta Devils ended up winning the game by like 30 points or something like that But it's gonna be it's gonna be the interesting to watch how this team responds This team at least the last few years has it played great at McCaslin last year again stark in salt pine block They won by I think 20, but it wasn't pretty
- 59:25[SPEAKER_00]: Pine Love was in that game for 35 minutes, the year before that, and even worse, Alcorn State Walks in, keeps that one close for about 30 minutes, and that one too.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: So this team needs to respond and it needs to be convincing regardless of what the final score is.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_00]: There's got to be fewer mistakes, it's got to be a lot more clean, basketball, regardless of who's on the court.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, and it is a good Twitter account regardless of the quality of play that the Delta was one of the is a good Twitter account.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_03]: The good news is there is a basketball team that was really, really fun on Monday.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_03]: Not many people I think got to really lock in because it happened at one 30 here in the central time zone.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_03]: They were playing over in Paris, but G. Brown checks crew goes out there and gets what I think is a fantastic win on day one of the regular season at
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_03]: the time and they won't be ranked this anymore, but number 12 both Carolina featuring the top break freshman in the country.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_03]: If you watch the broadcast, that's all Holly Row and the crew prepped on it seems for a little bit of that game, but it was legally belled the freshman that was the superstar and that one, but the important thing more than anything Ryan,
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_03]: We get the news a little bit ahead of tip-off.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_03]: Unfortunately, Keely Parks suffers a season-ending injury, non-contact.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_03]: That was going to be a big blow because at Media Day, Jeannie Baronshack, you could tell maybe the most excited and correct me if you felt differently right.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_03]: But the most excited she was was kind of talking about.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_03]: what kind of combination that Aliyah Chavez and the Healy Parks could maybe play in the OU bat core and kind of share some of those playmaking duties, things like that, didn't get Healy Parks and then Chavez immediately gets into foul trouble, barely plays in the second quarter, yet OU's up by one and a half time, it was kind of a real true team effort in their first game without Reagan beers and Peyton Furhol, so you have Chavez on the bench and then they come out and just ran North Carolina out of Paris in the third quarter.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they really did, and Sarah Williams, just starting off the third quarter, Sarah Williams set the tone on both ends of the floor.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_02]: It would she expect out of a senior and a senior that plays the way that she did.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think what she's gone through the last couple of summers with three X-3 and things like that, they talked about it on a broadcast, and they were exactly right.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think it helped her get ready for those moments when she needed to take over in those situations and she did it.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, the first broadcast all we heard is harping, harping, harping, you see, you know, Matt sitting in the stands, the list of family members, all that stuff.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_02]: But at the end, who were they talking about?
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_02]: They were talking about Lily Bell.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_02]: And for Lily Bell to
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, this team misses and will miss Reagan beers in big, big ways throughout the season because she could do things that, you know, very few players can do.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_02]: but Leely Bell and Brooklyn Stewart fit into Jenny Barronchett's offense so much better.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: They can get up and down the floor, they can stretch it, you know, Reagan Bears would hit a three every once in a while but Leely Bell's a different animal.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_02]: She, you know, has the size of a post player but can play like a guard and I think that's going to really help this team especially
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_02]: uh... in light of the keely parks injury because you're gonna need all the ball handlers you can get and uh... you know not that you're gonna have a bring the ball up the floor all the time but uh... you can do it occasionally and if they really really help them i don't know where are you would have been in the first half had lily bell not been able to do what she did when uh... alia chavez has to go to the bench for pretty much nine minutes of the second quarter
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_03]: Getting shooting around Chavez, some of the, she didn't really see like a ton of spies or getting going, and I think that Jordan Spires will be a piece there.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_03]: And she, she, she gave like the money ball thing.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_03]: Like you're not gonna replace Reagan Bears, you gotta replace her in the aggregate, whether it be offense, defense, special teams, kidding.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_03]: But it's a spot where I think that you saw between Lili, between Samiah Smith, and E.C.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_03]: the, the transfer coming in, the Brett London, South London's finest.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_03]: It was an East London, I think it was East London.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you look at it and go, they just fit what Oklahoma wants to do, which Jimmy's offense always plays fast is going to play at warp speed with Chavez.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_03]: Those are a better fit for just getting up and down and maybe pletuening bodies, I think, which helped.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm not going to say this team is going to be, you know, Jenny Baronchick's ultimate best team, or we'll go farther in the NCAA tournament.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_02]: But right now, just look at the roster.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_02]: You look at the makeup, and I think even without Kelly Parks now, it's the team that's molded best.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_02]: to the system that Jenny Baranchic likes to run and wants to run.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, we talked about with them in, there's a lot of turnovers in transition.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to happen with Jenny Baranchic's offense, the pace that she likes to play.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_02]: But if you can make up for that with a lot of,
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_02]: easy buckets in transition with your your defense that creates a fast break opportunities things like that then you can live with those things and they've largely been able to do that the last couple years but it seems like this team can be you know even more tailored to what they want to do and what we saw them do against North Carolina and it was just
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_02]: a beat down.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you look at the final score and it doesn't, you know, sort of like the South Carolina game for football that it didn't show how big of a blowout it was because of the fourth quarter got a little squirrely.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you kept pressing the tempo and turned the ball over quite a few missing shots that were taken way early in the shot clock.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_02]: uh... but uh... they controlled this game for uh... you know a lot of it and uh... really great start for jenny baronchick lily bell and the suitors
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_03]: going to be Friday night for the sooner man back in actually believe it's Sunday for the sooner women, both opportunities to see them in Norman, America, one at a cast and I've said they've been on Friday, then the LNC for the women on Sunday.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_03]: Saturday, it'll be a 645 kickoff, the SEC network, the home of hiding crappy football, which is what Oklahoma has become.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_03]: And it leads me to this.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_03]: I'll just put this out there.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_03]: What I'm rooting for, this would be my
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_03]: Did say, like, yes, sure, everything's on the table.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's an audition for Jason Whitton when I think Joe Masato asked him.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how true that is.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_03]: Just because I don't know if you can go with another internal candidate and stuff like that.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_03]: But guys, follow me.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_03]: Wouldn't not be awesome for Oklahoma to turn this thing all the way around.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_03]: They rally.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_03]: The offense looks much better.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_03]: They finish eight and four.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_03]: You're like, my gosh, this Jason Whitton guy.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_03]: He's got the it factor much like he did for his playing career.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's all said to be like,
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_03]: Jerry Jones, who's panicking and having an end of life crisis picks up the phone and says, shot andheimer, you're out.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_03]: Jason Whitten is in and Oklahoma's actually having to do a search because Jerry pulls the panic button and says, I must have my Jason Whitten back come here.
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_01]: Seems like a very Jerry Jones thing to do.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it does it like, if, if, if, if Oklahoma wins three of these four games, I'm just going to put in.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think that Jason Whitton's going to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys next.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_03]: If, if it, if it's because of offensive turnaround as opposed to like defensive scores, they're just able to, instead of like the Texas game, like, doesn't look like the Mississippi set, Mississippi state offense, but against everybody, the rest of the way.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_03]: Jason Whitton, your next Dallas Cowboys said, coach, which I think would be fun.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_03]: It'd be, uh, you know, fun for me, at least a point in my half of the Cowboys.
- 1:07:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's always fun to point and laugh at the Cowboys.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_03]: Never a bad time, never a bad time indeed.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_03]: None of us are Dallas fans here, so we can make that thing happen.
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_03]: But 645, that's where the Jason Wittner Dallas train truly starts.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_03]: This week, we'll be there.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_03]: We'll have some post game pod.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_03]: The post game pod will look a little bit different.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_03]: You'll have plenty of coverage to be sure you're locked in here.
