Transcript
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: We both just finished watching season three of Rami.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: On Hulu.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: Um, we're gonna talk about how it sex up compared to season one and season two.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: And we're also gonna talk about everything we loved about it and everything we hated about it.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: Totally.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: So if you didn't watch season three, this would be the time to stop watching.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, because there's gonna be spoilers.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Um so Hanan, let's talk about it.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: I really, really, really liked it.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: So look, season one was very different than two, than three.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: Season one was like all comedy and funny, and I think that's how like it grabbed the audience.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: But I really feel like season three is an awesome evolution for Rami's character.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: You know what I love the most?
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Season one's episode, the music.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: You know the song that Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: The songs are nice, but before we get into deep into the conversation, are you Team Zainab or Team Rami?
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: I'm Team Rami.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: No, I'm Team Zainab.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, I'm Team Rami.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, so not to cut you up, but what what was the major theme?
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: I think the major theme that I got out of it that this season is like a identity, like a crisis and identity crisis.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: No, I think it's just I think it's not just faith.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: I think it's faith, I think it's identity, I think it's everything.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: And I I I think like, yes, a little bit of it is identity, a little bit of it is face by uh face.
- 1:20unknown: Face.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: But I think overall it's really just the story of a of a guy who is trying to find out who he is, right?
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: He's trying to like he even says it, like he's trying so hard, he was so focused on you know what he thinks he should be that he didn't even try to figure out like who he actually is or who he wants to be.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: He's just focused on what he thinks he should be.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: So I think it's a total identity crisis.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I think I I think, but it was mostly about faith, though, don't you think?
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Because he here he was, end of season two.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: He completely messed it up with Zayn.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, let me let me just finish.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Faith and culture.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Okay, faith and culture, but I think he completely in season three, he completely gave up on the idea of being a good person because he is the easiest person to hate.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: You mean in season three?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I can't stand him.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I cannot stand his ideas.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: He gave up on the idea of being a good person.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: I think he just doesn't even know who he is.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Maybe he doesn't.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: I think he gave up on the idea of being good.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Because or being close to God.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Like he gave up- Oh, yes, being close to God, yes.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: So I don't know if I equate being good with being close to God.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's not what I but like I think he gave up on the idea of trying to.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: So I think he was going through the motions of life to try and so basically in the show he was trying to pay Zainab her her Mahara back and her Mu'akhar back and the money that you know they he contractually is like signed off on for like during their during their Qatbik Teb during their marriage.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Um I do, however, think that he was so focused on saying, okay, if I pay her back this money, I'm gonna get a chance to talk to Zainab.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think he ever really thought through what this money meant or what it was for or how he was making it, or I think even in the beginning, I think in the beginning he didn't, but I think in this season, what I got out of it is that he's making money.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: He's successful in making money.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: But he's still not happy.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: He's doing a good job, he's succeeding in that aspect of life, right?
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: But he's completely like detached from his faith, from his friends, even his friends.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I really think it's not even detached from just his faith and his friends.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: I think he's just detached from himself.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't even think he not I don't think I am confident after watching season three, he has no idea who he is as a person.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: And I really think that that shows the most in season three.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Like he has no idea is he supposed to be a Muslim?
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: What does a good Muslim even mean?
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: And it's like when he goes to that, like um the the meeting that he goes to for um, like you know, it's like a yeah for the for the like a group uh the group therapy or the attic synoptic or whatever it is, right?
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: So like I'm not really sure what the group is called, but it's like a group therapy where he says, like, I found this teacher and I thought this teacher was gonna give me what I wanted, but it's not actually what I wanted, and then he left me.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: And I think it's every time he says every time I try to get close to somebody thinking this is what I'm supposed to do, he ends up hurting that person.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because he's he he inflicts emotional damage on people.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: But I don't think he does.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I don't think he realizes why he does that.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't think he hasn't he's selfish.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I don't like him.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: His character sucks.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: I cannot stand his character.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: I feel really bad for him.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: He inflicts emotional damage on people.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: He is a hot mask.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: I don't think he means to do that.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: That's not an excuse, Hana.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, but honestly, let me tell you guys something.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: I was a little peeved that Zaneb towards the end of the show.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's definitely you know what?
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Who would uh how?
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: How can you be mad at her?
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: She hid the baby.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: She has every reason to.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: She had every like he's such a dude.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Helen, he is like the most like I can't stand the baby.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: She wasn't going to tell him that she had his baby.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, but thank you.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, Islamically speaking.
- 4:47unknown: She hid the baby.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: No, she hid nothing.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Islamically, Islamically speaking, yeah, she should have told him that.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Miss Islamically speaking, Zainab on the show is supposed to be like I can't even do not hate on Zainob.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: She has every right to be mad at him.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: No, no, she's not.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: What he did to her.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Yes, I'm not saying she doesn't have a right to be mad at him, but she should never have hated the beat.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's fine, but you know what?
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: He is Can I tell you guys that I was all in for Zainab until I found out that I was like, No, that's not that's not no, no, no, that doesn't change anything.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: He is, he's a dirtbag.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: He is like for me, like, I I don't know if I've ever hated a character as much as him.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: I don't hate him.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Not hate him, but dislike.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Hate is a strong word.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: You're you're right.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Because he is struggling, and I think that's I don't think you dislike him.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: I think you dislike what he does.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: It's a huge difference.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: You need to identify your emotions, Lena, okay?
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Listen, he's and direct your hatred correct uh correctly.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: It's not hatred.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I don't hate him.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: It's I dislike him.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: He is not like a character that anyone should aspire to be like.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: Like he's no, but I think he is, but I love the character because it is so like people have these kinds of identity crisis.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: I know, I know the show is amazing.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: This is why it's so real, it feels so real, and he still puts in some comedy.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, the guy's a genius.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Sarami like Yusuf, who did this show, is actually a genius.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: He spent you know who else is a genius?
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Who?
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: Um, what the the name of the woman who plays Meissa, his mom.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, he am Abbas.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: He is we're not there yet.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: We're not there yet.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: We're not there.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, but my point is, okay, forget Zainab.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Forget his shenanigans, forget his his his behavior, all his issues.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: His friends.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, so let's talk about let's let's let's talk about address things in order.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, his friends in order, right?
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: So no, the first not not let's not get to his friends yet.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: So we're talking about Rami and Zainab.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: So your team Zainab, I'm teamab.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: I think it's wrong what Rami did to her, right?
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: I really do.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: The way that that whole thing played out was so awful for Zainab because I think she truly loved Rami and Karen Ram.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Yes, she did.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: And she gave him a chance when no one else was waiting to give him a chance.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: No, no, I mean he's just a hot mess.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: I think he did, but I think he's just a hot mess human being.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Just because you love someone, though, doesn't mean you're you're exempt from being responsible.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: At the same time, I really hated the fact that Zainab hid the baby from Rami.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Like that really, really then the fact that he found out about it from the guy in prison.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, that's fine.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I get I get what you're saying, but it's nowhere near what he did to her.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: I'm just talking that negative.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: I think I I would say we called it even.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: No, it's not even.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: She had a baby! He's he's crazy, he's he's a loser.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Like after what he did to her, he's a complete scumbag.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying that.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: So here's I guess, again, me, my opinion, my two sons.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying he has like he needs to be in the baby's life, but he at least deserved to know.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: That's the thing that bugged me, right?
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Like, like, that's the one thing that bugged me is that she was basically meshi, don't talk to him.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: You don't need to ever have anything to do with him.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: He did wrong you.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: And I fully support, like, you know, Zainem's character in in her anger towards him.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: However, I do not support her hiding a baby from the father's baby.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: That's my issue.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: I think Rami started out looking like your next door neighbor's kid, like a little goofy.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: You know, he looks like smiles, goofy smile.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: The way he dressed.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: I think this season, you know, I think the mustache and the no beard and he got thinner.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think he just kind of like you can tell he looks like he's going through some stuff.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Like his character looks like it's going through some stuff.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: But I, I mean, honestly, this is probably one of his most controversial, I think, like seasons so far, but I think it's so well done.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: So I wanted I wanted to talk about like how this show is not just relatable to Arab Americans or Muslim Americans.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of, you know, first generation uh Americans and just immigrants can can actually relate to this and to his struggles.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: But I also want to say that not everybody, not every Muslim or Arab American family goes through what he is going through or what his family's going through.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: But I think I think he does a good job.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's the point of the show, no, no, no, I know it's not.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: But I'm I'm I'm thinking because he has such diverse characters and it shows you the different yeah.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, like you have Dr.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Ahmad, yeah, for example, who's a character I love by him.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: He's he's a devout Muslim.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: He's a a like a doctor.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I also think like he fight like even on this season, like season one, season two, Ahmed was kind of like on the sidelines, like he was a good supporting character.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: We get a little bit more about Ahmed's personality, but you can see more of why Ahmed is a little like OCD and why Ahmed is so like you know, Ahmed's the kind of person who's gonna like prey on things, and he has to make sure that like he consults like Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in everything he does.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: And you can really see that some of the negative things that are in Ahmed's life, like his relationship with his wife, for example, and why it hasn't involved, is because he doesn't, he's indecisive.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: He always thinks, like, okay, I have to pray on this.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: And he kind of uses his instead of using his religion to be like a helpful thing, he uses it as a crutch.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: It kind of feeds his indecisiveness.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, I don't know, call me whatever.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Like, that's how I see it.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Like, I feel like he uses his his dean literally as a crutch.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Like he doesn't make any decisions at all.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: And I think that's why his wife was like, we're not having children.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Okay, but he has it's not just the dean.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: He doesn't, I I think he has his own anxieties and issues.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: But I'm saying my point, I think what I was saying, do you not remember the whole Kibla thing?
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: I know, I know, I know because but that's how, because he's dealing with stress.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: But my point is the reason this show is so as much as I dislike the main character, it's such an amazing show because he includes different people.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Like he has Mo, for example.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, Mo is the stickers on the the best way, the best way to describe Mo is like he's 50-50.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: He's in it half the time, and he's at like he's like what a lot of people like he's in the middle.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: He's not too as much as he just doesn't, he's going to go with whatever serves his purpose.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: But there are people like that, right?
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: There's Muslim who there are Muslims who are like that, but you he has a devout Muslim.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Yes, he has see that's what I'm talking about.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: It's like, okay, he he's Muslim and he's okay with being Muslim, but he has his other side of it.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: He's like, we can wait a trip to Hajj.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: So you he he just shows what I really like is that he shows the different layers of or the different types of Muslims.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: It's not just one type of Muslim.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: We're not, and I think that's why, like our issues in media, for example, this is why the show is so important because we always get put into this box or this category.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: It's only one specific type of Muslim.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: No, they're we're not all the same.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: There's different levels, there's different different layers to us, and there's different kinds.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, I mean, and this is why I love the um, I love like how much we got to see of the other characters.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: Like, I wish we would have spent more time with uh Mesa and Farou, right?
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Which I think we spent enough time with.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: No, man, I freaking love.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're amazing.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: So both actors, by the way, right?
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: Ham and Bess and Amruekid, amazing, amazing, amazing actors in their own right.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: I love what I love, I love sort of what um what what Farou is is like what he stands for.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: And you know, when him, when when Mesa's always talking in French, and he's like, Stop it, they're colonizer, and she goes, They chose us and I accepted.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: I loved her in that movie.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Or her comment, like we have to do a whole video on just Mesa.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: No, not just Mesa, just on the the quotes in this season.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, it was hilarious.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: But like like uh Mesa played by Hiam at Bass.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Hiam at Bass needs to win a freaking award.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: She does.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: Because phenomenal, like everyone on that show, like that show deserves to win so many awards.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: I loved about her was like what you see a lot in um, you know, when her and Farut were having a fight, and she said, you know, he's he's basically telling her, like, you didn't do a good job of like raising the kids, look at your kids.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: And she was basically like, Okay, I'm doing the best that I can.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: You are not doing your job, like you lost your job, you're not providing for this household.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: And even the thing that I'm doing with myself, because she's like an Instacart delivery person, like shopper and slash, slash delivery um person.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: And um, she goes, even that, like you can't leave for me, like you have to be in that involvement.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: Like he's stuck with her, like yeah.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: So it's it's like she's doing her own thing to help to contribute to the family and he's yeah, but I think with him, Haram, it's like he's been providing for the family all these years, so it's like a bit hard on him too.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, look, he lost his job, he made a investment.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: But that's the thing.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: This season, this is what I wanted, you just reminded me.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: This season is also about, you know, people struggling in America with everything that's happening with the economy, with inflation, people losing their jobs, the pandemic.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: So I love that even you know what I love about them, about them as a married couple, like about Faru and and Meitha, is that you kind of see it's so real about the things that like it here's this here's this immigrant couple who literally left everything behind, and you know, it's supposed to be the two of them.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: And the couple of episodes dedicated to their relationship really kind of takes you on this roller coaster ride.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: And I think it's very real.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And I love the way that they're portrayed, right?
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Like it's not perfect.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: He um he he's trying, but he ends up like getting a lot in her way, and even her, she's just like, What if what am I doing with my life?
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: Like, why did I why am I here?
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: But in the end, when they do the trims together, yeah, you can see that they both are kind of stuck in the same thing.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: When like we're standing over the pool, and he's like, This is where I taught Dina how to swim.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: And she's like, you know, sometimes I want to come out, like I come out here and I want to see them being these little kids, like swimming again in this pool.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: And I loved that scene so much because you can see, like, regardless of how much they struggle through, and even when she tried to call the divorce lawyer, she's like, Okay, no, like, like well, but that's the thing, like you know, the scene in oh my god, the scene in the therapist's office when she says, I'm Palestinian.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I just laughed.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: That made me laugh because we do that as Palestinians.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Like, dude, I'm Palestinian, okay?
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Like, I have dealt with so much in my life.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: So, like, this is nothing.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: I I love and but I love how the way she does it, the way she says it, the way she delivers it.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, honestly, like in the first season, the first and second season, she there were scenes with her.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I'm just like, she's so awkward.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: I get like secondhand embarrassment, but that's how good of an actress she is.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Yes, like she I mean, I was so embarrassed for her when she was in their friend's house and she went into the oh my god, I was like, I wanted to fast forward.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: I was so unboxing.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: I wanted to because like the anxiety, I'm like, oh my god, why are you why are you messing with it?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Her perfume and then like, but that's the thing, like she she does like so many things that just like make you feel awkward.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then you're like, and then you're real, I'm like, shit, she's really like a good actress.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: Exactly, because I feel like I'm like living this life, and I'm like, this is you know what I love though, episode one, and I wrote this down in the last in the third season, uh in the third season, episode one of season three.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: So, like, we all know that like we love season two with you know Zayn up finding out that you know Rami wants to have another wife.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, pretty much.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: He didn't want to have another wife.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: He just That was the whole point of the conversation they're in bed, and he says to her No, the problem was not that.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: No, the problem was that he um Did I forget what happened in him?
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: What was it?
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, it was that he slept with his cousin, like Oh yes, of course, some on, yes.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: I think that was the bigger issue.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: That was a really gross issue.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: That was the real issue, yeah.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: So, anyways, we start season three, and the song that episode one is set to is Wertas Lulal Malema.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: So, and I love that because the song goes Lulal Malema yahawa lulal malema, right?
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: So, like it's like if regret wasn't like a thing, you know, Lefrit Gineh al Hawaii.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: I basically would be just like living my life and living his best life.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: And I love the fact that they picked that song.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: But they picked a lot of songs from Warda in season three.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: So, no, but but it just I love that episode one was set to that.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Lulemaya.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: No, I mean, listen, the show is amazing, but I do want to talk about like obviously I'm I really hope they give him a bass.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Some kind of award.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: They need to freaking give it honorable mention, something no, not honorable mention.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: She needs to win an award, and not because she's Palestinian, I'm Palestinian, but she is such like she's so underrated.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: She's so underrated, she's such a good actress.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Is Hampa uh is Ham a bet actually Palestinian?
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's Palestinian.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: I thought she was Lebanese.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, she's Palestinian.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: I don't know why she gives me Lebanese vibes.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: I think it's the French.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: It might be the French, right?
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: It's the French.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but no, no, she's Palestinian.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: And then um, let's talk about Dina.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Oh man, Dina was Dina was was struggling.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: She is really struggling too, Mesquina.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: But you know what?
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Uh Mei Kalamewi.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: I think Kalamaui.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Kalamawi, right?
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: That's her last name.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Good, great, great, great, phenomenal, phenomenal, phenomenal, phenomenal actress.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: So good.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: I love that, but I I feel like they didn't give her her time either this season.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Like it was kind of, didn't you feel like her character was a little rushed?
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Not rushed.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: I think I felt like I was a little rushed.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: I did love the fact that she finally came clean about not taking the bar, right?
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: Um I do love the fact that, you know, she is kind of starting to face a little bit of the issues that she has.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: She's not just attesting it to like um I like her focus is like, let me deal with my problems instead of like past season, she was just like, I just need to get the hell out of here.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but she need like the therapist she went to was just a bad.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: He's like, she's like, oh my God.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Like that's not, and and listen, I'm all for mental health and therapy.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: And therapy.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: But that therapist was just horrible.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: But you need to pick someone who exactly like someone who's not gonna be dismissive or like what's the word, condescending or rude about your cultural background.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Like they have to be understanding it.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: And you know what's funny that you say that.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: So I have one of my really good friends who is actually a licensed therapist, okay, right?
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: She works uh in the the DC metro area, and her and I talk about that a lot.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: Did she see the show?
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: She hasn't seen the show yet, but no, we talk about specifically about her.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: So she's she's Arab American, Egyptian American, however, she wants to identify.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: But uh, she's Arab American, she's Egyptian, and she's she's you know Muslim.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: And I love the work that she does because I feel like we need somebody like her in the community, like in real life.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: You need somebody like that who understands, like you said, cultural background sensitivities, understands like why people have some of the uh either childhood trauma that they're bringing with them or PTSD or problems that they have, and you know, things that people write off, like like Dina in the show was writing off as just being Arab.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: It's not necessarily that it was like, oh, she's being abused, but it could be that maybe this is not the right way that you know her mom was talking to her, maybe it hurt her feelings, and maybe she needs to find a better way to address it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, obviously.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: But all I'm saying is like, yes, you need to find somebody that actually understands like where you come from and what what how that like feeds the fabric of the city of the city of the city.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because some things, some things as Arabs, some things, yeah, maybe abusive, but some things aren't.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: No, but like there are things that people write off as not like people don't like there are things that we do culturally that like you know they're not right.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Like you can't just always call somebody a humar, which means donkey.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, even if they laugh, it's not you're I know you're laughing about that.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: But no, but on in like in all honesty, but you may end up pretty good.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: No, no, you're saying like parents call their kids Hamar.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, yeah, that's effed up.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: But it's that's not funny at all.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, I call my kid high one, but that's like a term of endemia.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: I call you haiwan all the time.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: But it's different.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: I'm an adult, like I don't do that with my kids.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: I don't, I don't like that.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: No, no, but for no, no, but see, that's the thing though, like as Palestinians, like we have this thing.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Like, my kid doesn't get offended.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: Like, he knows it's like I'm joking with him.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: But here's the thing, right?
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Like, I agree with you and I disagree with you.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: That works for you, that's fine.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: I don't do that, I don't agree with that.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: I don't like calling kids like haiwanette or you know, like if uh technically speaking, like I'm gonna be like a smart ass right now.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: He is a haiwan, we're all haiwanette.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: No, no, okay.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: No, but my point, but see, that's the thing.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: So that's the thing though.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Like, if I as a parent, I know we're like veering off, but I really want to make this this point because maybe we could use it as a like a separate thing.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: As a parent who has good communication skills with her kids and who has explained to her kids, hey, this is just a term of endearment, yeah.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: They know, like they don't get bothered by it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Like there is nothing so because I'm not giving that word a lot of meaning.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: It's just like, hey, high on, okay?
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I, on the other hand, don't believe in like there's a lot of things that I don't like I I don't I don't do that with my kids.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: Like, I just don't call them highownette or her.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: That's fine.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, now you're making me feel like I'm a shit mother.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: No, I'm not saying I'm just saying that's whatever works for you.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: I think it's a cultural thing.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, Anna, growing up, nobody called me those things.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: So my mom didn't call me that, my dad didn't call me that.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: It's a Lena thing.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: No, but it's shut up.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: It's it's it is a Lena thing.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: You just say it, it's okay.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: It's not a Lena thing.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Like we do this, we do this, like it's not a big deal.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Anyway, we veered off.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Go ahead, back to Dina and the therapy.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so back to Dina and therapy.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: I think that Dina does need therapy.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: Dina's character needs a lot of therapy.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: I think she's struggling with a lot of things.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: I think she's struggling with a lot of like her own identity issues.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: I think she's struggling with the what she wants out of life.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like, but uh and but again, that's that is kind of an identity.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: She is and what she wants.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: So I think she's struggling with the same things as Rami.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: I think she just doesn't hurt people the way that Rami does, right?
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: Like her That's the difference.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but uh but I I mean.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Rami doesn't do it on purpose.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, technically you can argue that she in but she she corrected her mistake.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: The way she handled Tara was kind of messed.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: I felt so bad for him.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: But then she kind of fixed that situation.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Again, again.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: It takes two to tango.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I love how you're always like contradicting me.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it every relationship has two people.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Tada is not a victim.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm not saying Tara is a victim.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: Anyway, the point is the therapy scene was freaking hilarious.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Yes, the therapy scene was.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, the therapy scene was funny.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: And I just love when she goes back to her and she's like, and she's like, Are you finished with them?
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: And she's like, Yeah, she's like, These white people are crazy.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, I I think maybe the therapist was a bit much.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, a bit much.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Like totally the wrong therapist for these kind of things.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I loved when she went off on a time.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: I was very confused.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: Like, I I was like, something, something bad is gonna happen when she goes, We'll address that later in role play.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: I was like, roleplay?
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: What are they doing?
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: My God, speaking of roleplay, like the freaking accents.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, we're so offensive.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Like it's like they're acting, they're trying to be like um Dina's mom, yeah, Mesa, and the lady busts out with a what was it, uh, Indian accent?
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: And then the guy busts out with an Italian, he's playing the dead, and he busts out with an Italian accent.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: I'm just like, what is wrong with these people?
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: So Nassim is he's racist, he's misogynist, he's like, He's a lot of bad things.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a lot of bad things, but I still feel for him.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: I still feel for him because he is this man.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: He has his own identity crisis.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: He masquine, like I feel so bad for him because like you can see he's struggling.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: He is from deep down, like he is like I like he knows he's one thing, but he can't allow himself to be that.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: You know, like I said, I love the show this season because he talks about stuff that we don't normally talk about, you know?
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: Like when we talk about abortion, Nebuchadnezzar, I think that was his name, yes, friend in Egypt.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then um uh let's see, the uh the other thing was just Rami's visit to um, you know, Palestine, Israel, can I just people can I just tell you?
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my god, he's not going there.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Is he like I was like, how is this gonna be?
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Like, I was so worried.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my god, why?
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Why, Rami?
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Honestly, though, I kind of expected it because at this point, like at this point when he made that deal, all he was focused on is making money.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: And I think when you and that's that's kind of like when you start, I I always say, like, when you start praying to the Almighty Dollar and you forget everything else, that becomes your driver, your motivator in life.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it doesn't really matter at this point, like Palestini, Israeli, Muslim, Messifi, Yahudi, it's you, they all have the same, all these people have the same person they're praying to, the Almighty Dollar.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like I was so worried.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: But then, like the way, I mean, and he's so and he said it in an interview.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: He's like, I wanted to be like like this whole situation, like the Israelis, the Palestinians, whatever, the whole situation there.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: He's like, I wanted to figure out a way how everyone, even though like people differ about that situation there, he's like, I wanted basically people to think that I'm the asshole out of everybody.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Everybody that's there.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: But he does a good job.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: The first thing he does is try to hook up with someone.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: I know, seriously.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: And then of course he gets that kid, whatever.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Anyway, like you guys will watch the jacket, yeah.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: Like like the whole, but but I do think you know what I think is what I think it was like he did have like a little bit of a redeeming moment about the kid, right?
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Um, when he's so it shows you like his naivety, right?
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: When he talks to, I don't remember what her name is, the woman that he was doing business with.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: The diamond dealer.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I forgot her name too.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: So that he was doing that he was doing the business with all or some shit like that.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't remember.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: But um, but I do love honestly, I loved her character too, because it was kind of like like whoever I don't know, I don't know who the actress is, but I need to find out.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she's a good actress.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Uh no, it's just her she did her character right on point.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: She was basically like, Look, like, are you in or are you not?
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: This is we're doing this for money.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't care what you believe in.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that scene when she handed him the pen, I'm like, don't you dare.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I will check out of this show right now.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: I actually, no, for me, I was like, she did her job perfectly.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when she asked him to, the scene I'm talking about is when she asks him to draw a picture of the prophet, stuff like that.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: And then she goes, ha ha ha ha ha, I love to laugh.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then he's just sitting, I'm like, Grammy.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: But that's what no no, but that's what shows you that once you enter something like this, at some point you don't care about your faith anymore.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Your faith is brand, your God is money.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: But that scene too reminds me of when he says congratulations.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: To the grandma survived.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I'm just like, what the hell is wrong with you?
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Who says congratulations?
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: Instead of saying, like, oh my god, that was just an awful time, and you know, just just it or say nothing, look somewhere.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: I'll never think of that word the same.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Me neither.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: I'm always gonna be thinking about it.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: But see, that's his comedic genius.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like, oh my god, like like some of these things, uh, scenes that he puts in there, oh my god, amazing.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: So I so that one, but I love that woman who played, you know, the the diamond dealer, the Israeli diamond dealer that he worked with.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: And Salim, the guy, was his name Salim?
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the Lebanese guy.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: He had the Lebanese accent who plays the Hasidic Jew.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: The Hasidic Jew.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: That guy, amazing.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: He's a good actor.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: Because you know what?
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: He is, he like he is so his role is so perfect because he's supposed to be this like devout Jew.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: He's like walking around with his again, his god is only money.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Like he doesn't, but it shows you like to get to that level, when you get to that level, it doesn't matter at that point, like who you're praying Jew.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: We all have the same motive.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, is money, right?
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I do love to go back to Rami's naivety.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: I do love the fact that he gets his jacket stolen, he reports it, the kid gets arrested, yaharam, and on like it it's just like a you love the fact that it was shown.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Like what happened?
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: I love the fact that it was shown.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: I love the fact that it was something over something so trivial because that's pretty much what happens.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: But I also love how naive Rami was to think that this woman who only cares about money was gonna take time to get this kid out of jail.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Like, where do you think this is?
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because he she knows he's an idiot and he's naive, and she just wants to make sure the work is done.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: She doesn't care about Rami, she doesn't care about Khalid, the other kid who gets arrested.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: She doesn't she only cares about the deal she's making.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: But like I said, I was really concerned about him going there and like how he's gonna present it.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: But like after watching those episodes in Palestine, I think he did a good job of showing I love what happened in Palestine.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: She goes, Mephikemia.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: It's like yeah, she was funny.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: A family member.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: I was like, who's that woman?
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: And she's amazing.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: Like that is funny.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: But they use a lot of like uh on location.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Uh and then I think also they use a Palestinian director for that episode.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: Which I honestly I love, I just love how he portrayed that.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: And I love all the different characters because it shows you like the kids, the Palestinian kids who are messing with him, they're kids.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they got arrested over something so stupid and so trivial.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: Like, all and he did not even realize that him reporting his jacket being stolen is gonna result in this poor 15-year-old kid being dragged out of his house, middle of the night, by the idea of soldier.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Like, it's just yeah, but showing that, showing that is so important.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: It's because people are, you know, shielded from that.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: You don't see this on mainstream TV.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: You just don't, and like that's one good thing about this show.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: And you know, I know like uh Hiam Abbas, the one who plays his mom.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Like, she was there, she was helping him.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: He actually like asked her to come as a producer, yeah, uh, for that, for that episode, you know.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: So I think that's I think he did a good job with it.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: I think so too.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: I still like I said, my problem with him is I can't stand his character.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: He's so dislikable.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: I you know, I I honestly I don't like him.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: I I just want to when she slapped him that one time when she found out because that's like I'm not taking your your your what did he what your blood money you know and like when she slapped him, I'm like, yes, I'm a command mara.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: I'm like, slap him again.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: Actually, no, you know, honestly, for me, it's not that I I don't dislike him.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: I feel so like I have like like I I feel sorry for him.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Like I feel sadness for his life.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Listen, I get he's going through that stuff, but anyway, like I said, he's like the most dislikable character.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: I haven't disliked the character this much.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I don't even remember the last time I disliked that character.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: But you know what I think is amazing?
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: I think it's amazing.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: You know that it's a success if we both have all these strong feelings about Boomer.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's an amazing show, regardless of how I feel about the main character.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: But like, let's wrap this up.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: What about Boomer dying?
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: I don't want to talk about that.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Like, that was freaking traumatic for me.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Sorry, okay.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: I'm laughing at you.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: I'm just like freaking Boomer, like this is why I can't stand his ass.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Like he's so irresponsible.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Like, don't mess with the dog.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Like, like, don't mess with animals.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: But you know, and it's funny because you know, I think that for him was like a turning point.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I think it was.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: You know how, you know how um Zainab's dad, I can't remember what his name is.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, yeah, Sheikh Malik.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so he told him he's like, you can learn something from this dog.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: And I think even the one the one animal, the one thing he was supposed to take care of that.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: I was done with that.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: It's his stupidity and his irresponsibility.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, stupidity, irresponsibility.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: He like I couldn't stand his ass before, and when that happened, I'm like, I am done with this character.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: You know what I love?
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: I am done.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: I love when he goes to jail to tell the guy that used to own Boomer.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: I can't remember what his name was either, but I don't know.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: He goes to to tell him, and he's like, Dogs are hot on man.
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, I can't.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: So I wanted to uh talk about um his his last scene in the last episode.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Oh his breakthrough.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: I know like that was so emotional.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Like that's when I actually felt bad for him.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's when I'm like, oh my god, and like the way he was saying his prayers and saying Allahu Akbar, like you can feel that was coming from but you know what I love?
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: I love that they juxtaposed that with the scene of Faru and Mesa and Mei and I'm sorry, and Dina Antare all praying together as well.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: And like I I mean I'm But what did you think about Rami's scene?
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Like I we can talk about the others later, but what did you think?
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Because I think that for me made me kind of like I I was hating on him the entire RC I wasn't hating on him, I can't stand hating on the head.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: You know how you felt sorry for him?
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: I actually was so happy with that scene.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, I don't tell you why because I felt I felt so bad for him watching the entire season.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: I was just like, God, he is so lost.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: Is he ever gonna find it?
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: And then that scene, I think I literally like I shed one tear and I was like Alhamdulillah.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was very listening.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't like to admit this, but that was a very emotional.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: It was, it was, and I it it got to me.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Like I'll be honest, it got to me because you you could hear it in his voice.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can hear like this anguish, like like like like okay, he he finally lost.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he finally he like him going back.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: I felt like he was actually like the the emotion from him was pure, you know, like he finally like something clicked, right?
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's getting there, but I don't know why that scene like was so emotional, like the way he did it, you wouldn't think it was, right?
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: Because yeah, I think it's honestly because you are on this, so it's only 10 episodes and they go by really fast, actually.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: I watched it in two days, yeah.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: So they go they go by like really, really quick.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: And I think the thing that really got me with that scene is because the show, I I mean, I love the pace of the show, right?
- 33:09SPEAKER_02: But throughout the entire 10 episodes, I'm like, is something gonna happen where where he is going to stop and realize, like, I'm a hot mess.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: I need help.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Like, or or maybe I need to find, and it's and it's not just about finding a lot, it's like finding me.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: How am I going to, who am I?
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: What am I doing in my life?
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: Understanding what's happening.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: Like, are you ever gonna pause and reassess like what you're doing and how you're hurting the people around you?
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Because I I thought that that was gonna come when he saw the baby, right?
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: When he saw his baby.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: No, no.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: I and it was this at the most random, awkward time, and it's when he lost that stupid watch.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: The watch, thank you.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: He lost that stupid watch, and then I I think he finally has this realization like, what the hell am I doing with my life?
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: Like, Anna, like I I'm I'm I'm hurting everybody around me.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: I I I'm doing this this wild goose cheese for what?
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Like, what am I doing all of this for?
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: And I think it's this moment where like I really I felt happy.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: I was like, thank God he finally realized that he he he kind of he needs to stop and like look and see what the hell he's doing with himself.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right?
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: No, no, that scene was amazing, and I'm just like, oh my god, and it's like you've been through this roller coaster with him, but I love that scene.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: And and like just to go back, like the whole show, just to wrap it up.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, we can talk about this for another hour and a half or two or whatever, but like I just want to say that this show is so important, everybody needs to watch it because like there's like the representation like we talked about last time, like with Mo and and and on Netflix, but like the representation in it, just the message, just like it's a it's a story about everyday Muslim, like like just it's just and honestly, like I think this and Mo are very different.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Even Mo and what I love about Mo though is Mo is himself like on Rami.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he is on that Mo show on Netflix.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: Um Mo's experience is very different.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: Like Mo and Rami, I don't think they're one and the same.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: So two different shows, but this lately Rami, like his show is done, like it's just perfectly done.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Like I like as much as I hate his character, that show is amazing because he gives you the perspective, he gives he he dedicates entire episodes to certain individuals.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and he's giving you different stories from different people.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: I really I I mean I appreciated like the insight that we got into like Mesa and Farou and Nassim and Ahmed and Mo.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: And so, yeah, and like I like I said, even what we got to see of all of his friends, you know, including Steve.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: Yes, I love I love the cameo by by Bela Hadid.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: Yes, and and her name was Lena.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: She did a really good job, by the way.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: She did a really good job.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: And I love I love the scene about like when he just goes, Why don't you drive?
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: Don't you think that's weird?
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: I feel like if you and it's just the whole that whole thing, you could see just the insight that we got into every single person this season.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: I absolutely loved.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: I'm excited for the next season.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: I just hope.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: You know it's the last season, right?
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: I know, it's fine.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: And I think he can't like, but I do want to talk about like the there was this one quote he said, because like, you know, there's always gonna be critics, right?
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: And even he said, I watched I watched him in an interview with I think uh Jimmy Kimmel.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: And he says, because his parents were there in the in the in the audience, and they're so cute, by the way.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Um, and he's like, Yeah, my parents hate the sex scenes, you know, like they really get bothered by those, you know?
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: And I get that, and like I understand.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: Um, but he he made a he made a comment and he's saying, uh, I just want to read it.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: He says, This show can be a bit of a mirror for how someone views what we're talking about.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: There are people who are very uncomfortable with sex and they watch the show and go, man, all these people are doing is having sex.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: But then there are people who religion is really not for them, and they watch, like, man, all these people are doing is praying.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: So I do think for spiritual people that this is a real spiritual break for me and for the character that feels like this is really real breakthrough.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: But I think if that's not something that someone has a scope of in their own life, it just looks like the guy is insane.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: When we shot it, I felt like it could be either, and it could be both.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: So I think that's a good way.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: I I think like to look at it because he's right.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: If you're not like into religion or whatever, you're gonna be like, you're gonna think all they do is pray and worry about God and worry about you know what I mean?
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: But if you're the other, you're gonna be like, all they do is like fornicate.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: But anyway, I think they need to give this show the props that it deserves, absolutely, and they need to give them some awards.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: I absolutely, and and honestly, in short, if you haven't figured it out by now, go watch Rami.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: Definitely watch two and three.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Yes, amazing show.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: Watch it and and just look out for hey, my best, my girl.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: She's amazing.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: She is amazing, yeah.
