- 0:00John chapter 5 Let us pray our Father who is in heaven, holy is
- 0:12your name, your Kingdom come, and your will be done on earth,
- 0:24just as it is in heaven. Give us this day Our Daily
- 0:30Bread. Forgive us for our sins as we
- 0:37forgive those who sin against us.
- 0:42Lead us not into temptation. Deliver us from the evil one,
- 0:51for yours is the Kingdom power, the glory forever.
- 1:00Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 1:06After this there was a feast of the Jews and Jesus went up to
- 1:12Jerusalem. Perhaps this was the Pentecost,
- 1:16and we know that Jesus is heading to the pool of Bethesda
- 1:20to now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool which is
- 1:30called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
- 1:35So this pool of Bethesda had five porches, and it's in
- 1:40Jerusalem. 3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent
- 1:44folk, of blind folk, of halted folk, withered folk, waiting for
- 1:54the moving of the water. So we know here that these
- 1:58multitude of people who were lame and who had all kinds of
- 2:03diseases, they would sit and wait for the stirring of the
- 2:07water. And let's see, for for an Angel
- 2:11went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the
- 2:15water. Whosoever then first, after the
- 2:18troubling of the water stepped in, was made whole of whatsoever
- 2:23disease he had. And it's not superstition, and
- 2:27it's not a list of do's and don'ts that make us whole.
- 2:33It is faith, friends, it is faith in Jesus Christ is the
- 2:38only thing that can make us whole.
- 2:40And he's going to ask you, and He's going to ask me if we want
- 2:43to be made whole. Five And a certain man was there
- 2:50with who had an infirmative 38 years. 6 And when Jesus saw him
- 2:56lying and knew that he had been now a long time, in that case,
- 3:00he said unto him, Will you be made whole?
- 3:05So he asked you that. He asked me that Do you want to
- 3:08be set free from the bondage of addiction?
- 3:12And all of your propensities and evil actions, do you want to be
- 3:19free from the sin that plagues you?
- 3:247 The impotent man answered him. Sir, I have no man when the
- 3:29water is troubled to put me into the pool, but while I am coming,
- 3:33another steps down before me. So this man was filled with
- 3:37excuses and he tried to get down in the water, but everyone would
- 3:42get there before him. And for 30 eight years he'd been
- 3:46laying in this state. 8 Jesus said unto him, Rise, take up
- 3:53your bed and walk. So imagine that Jesus just
- 3:57speaks a better word over his situation.
- 4:00And we have to be desperate, friends, we need to be
- 4:03desperate. We can't just ask God, ask
- 4:07Christ to heal us because we feel sorry about breaking the
- 4:15bond between US and ABBA. We need to be in a place of
- 4:19desperation where we cannot see our way out of it, where we must
- 4:26let go of anything that we are trying to hold on to and hide
- 4:30from God. We have to bring those things to
- 4:32the light. We have to let Him examine them
- 4:35and take them out. And it is a miraculous thing and
- 4:39God is still doing miracles today because He can completely
- 4:44take away all of your sins and He can completely take away all
- 4:51of the addictions that you cannot self will to get rid of.
- 4:56It is a miracle of God whenever the scales fall off, whenever
- 5:01those addictions go away, whenever He can heal your mind
- 5:05and take the reprobate mind away from you, whenever He can take
- 5:10the addictions that you cannot get rid of.
- 5:15The things that keep coming back up, God can take away.
- 5:19And he asked you today, do you want to be made whole?
- 5:22And then He tells you rise, rise out of that situation that you
- 5:26find yourself in. Rise to a new height, friends.
- 5:30Quit going back down into Egypt and quit going back down into
- 5:36sin and quit going back to your vomit like a dog.
- 5:40We must rise to a new level. Rise to the heights where he is,
- 5:46ascend the hill, friends. And then he tells you, take up
- 5:51your bed. So here we all have this bed
- 5:55that we've been lying on that we find comfort in, and he's saying
- 6:01take that up, quit laying there, rise and take up your bed.
- 6:08And then he tells you to walk. Walk in freedom, walk in the
- 6:12light, because he is in the light, friends, and watch how he
- 6:16makes you whole. 9 And immediately the man was made
- 6:19whole, and took up his bed, and walked, and on the same day it
- 6:23was the Sabbath. 10 The Jews therefore said unto him, That
- 6:27was cured. It is the Sabbath day.
- 6:29It's not lawful for you to carry your bed.
- 6:31Look at how these men could never heal this man.
- 6:35They can never do anything except for make him twice the
- 6:39sun of hell that they are. They were completely, completely
- 6:42fine with him laying in that state.
- 6:45And Jesus is the only one that can heal and to cure him.
- 6:49And here you can see that they were envious and they were so
- 6:54legalistic and so dogmatic about their approach to Scripture that
- 6:59they could not see that this man's healing was a miracle from
- 7:04God and that God always supersedes all of our
- 7:09traditions. 11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same
- 7:17said unto me, Take up your bed and walk.
- 7:20He was just being obedient unto Jesus.
- 7:22And we would do well to do to do the same thing, even in the face
- 7:27of persecution and adversity. 13.
- 7:38We'll go back to 12. Then ask they him, What man is
- 7:42that which said unto you, Take up your bed and walk?
- 7:4613 And he that was healed did not know who it was.
- 7:51For Jesus had conveyed himself a way of multitude being in that
- 7:55place. Look at how Christ just was able
- 7:58to slip away into the crowd. Look at how Christ did not try
- 8:04to make a big public spectacle out of this healing, but he knew
- 8:08it was going to cause trouble. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in
- 8:15the temple and said unto him, Behold, you're made whole, Sin
- 8:19no more, lest the worst thing come unto you.
- 8:23So we can see here that Jesus tells us the same thing when we
- 8:27are made whole. Don't go back to that sinful
- 8:30lifestyle, because if you go back, something worse could
- 8:34happen to you. 15 The man departed and told the Jews that
- 8:39it was Jesus which had made him whole.
- 8:43When Jesus heals you, you can't help but to tell the whole
- 8:46world. 16 Therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus and sought to
- 8:52slay him because he had done these things on the Sabbath day.
- 8:55They were so steeped in their traditions, friends, that they
- 8:58missed the miraculous. They missed that God Incarnate
- 9:02was in their midst. 17 But Jesus answered them, My Father works
- 9:09always, and I work. So even though God rests on the
- 9:147th day, he's always at work. Friends. 18 Therefore the Jews
- 9:19sought more to kill him, because not only had had he broken the
- 9:23Sabbath, but he said that God was his Father, making himself
- 9:27equal with God. So we can see here that Jesus is
- 9:32God, that God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Ghost
- 9:38are all equal. 19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Truly,
- 9:43truly, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself but
- 9:49what he sees the Father do. For what things so ever he does,
- 9:55these also do the Son likewise. So we can see here that Jesus is
- 10:00telling these Pharisees and he's telling us that he only models
- 10:05and mirrors what God wants him to do.
- 10:09And what he sees God wanting to bring about on this earth is
- 10:15Jesus is God in the flesh. He is.
- 10:19The only part that we can see of God is Jesus Christ himself,
- 10:25because God is Spirit and God dwells in unapproachable light
- 10:29and that no one has seen God and lived. 20 For the Father loves
- 10:34the Son and shows him all things that himself does, and he will
- 10:40show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
- 10:44So whenever they are all trying to figure out how this lame man
- 10:49started to be able to walk, then Jesus is saying, you will see
- 10:54greater things. And Jesus knows that God
- 10:58Almighty loves him. 21 For as the Father raises up the dead
- 11:06and quickens them, Even so the Son quickens whom he wills.
- 11:11So we can see here that Jesus is calling us to himself.
- 11:17Jesus is going to strengthen US, friends. 22 For the Father
- 11:22judges no man, but he has committed all judgment unto the
- 11:25Son. So think about that.
- 11:28Jesus said that if we deny him before men, that we will be
- 11:33denied before God. 23 that all men should honor the Son, even
- 11:39as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son
- 11:42honors not the Father which has sent him.
- 11:45So that's how we know that Jesus is God and that God is well
- 11:50pleased with Jesus, and that we must obey Jesus because it's all
- 11:55connected. Friends, the Trinity all on
- 11:59display. 24 Truly, truly, I say unto you, he that hears my word
- 12:04and believes on him that sent me has everlasting life.
- 12:09It shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from
- 12:12death into life. So we know that there's no more
- 12:15condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus.
- 12:18We know that that is eternal life is when we believe on the
- 12:22Lord Jesus Christ. We must obey the word of Jesus
- 12:27Christ. We must hear it and obey it. 15
- 12:32Truly, truly, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is
- 12:36when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and
- 12:40they that here shall live. We know that we were dead in our
- 12:43trespasses, friends, and we know that it was God speaking a
- 12:47better word over our lives that brought us into life
- 12:52everlasting. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so
- 12:57has he given to the Son to have life in himself.
- 13:00That is the whole basis of life is the breath of God sustaining
- 13:06us, breathing into our nostrils, making us out of the dust.
- 13:11Friends, He is life and He is life abundant.
- 13:15Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life, friends, it
- 13:21is our lifeline. He is the breath.
- 13:25Friends, He is our everything. There is no life outside of
- 13:31Jesus Christ. It is nothing but death and
- 13:34disease and decay. That is it. 27 and has given him
- 13:40authority to execute judgment also because he is the Son of
- 13:45man. So we know that Jesus Christ is
- 13:49the only way to the Father. We know that we must be covered
- 13:53in the blood of Jesus Christ to make it their friends. 28 Marvel
- 13:58not at this, for the hour is coming, into which all that are
- 14:03in the grave shall hear his voice, 29 and shall come forth.
- 14:10They have done, they that have done good unto the resurrection
- 14:16of life, and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of
- 14:20damnation. So we know that every knee will
- 14:23bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.
- 14:27And we see that there's only two destinations.
- 14:31For every person who has ever been born is living today, or
- 14:35will be born. We know that there are only two
- 14:39options, friends. And what does he say?
- 14:42Resurrection of life and resurrection of damnation.
- 14:46That is it friends. And what is the 2 caveats?
- 14:50Those that have done good and those that have done evil.
- 14:54And so we can see that how is it that we do good?
- 14:57The only way that we can do good is to put on the righteousness
- 15:02of Jesus Christ and to be clothed in his perfect blood.
- 15:08Or those that have never but they behaved and they tried to
- 15:13do everything right, and they think that God wouldn't send a
- 15:16good person to hell. And if they had never been born
- 15:20again, then they are going to go to eternal damnation.
- 15:25And it is evil to blasphemy the Spirit.
- 15:28When God is calling you unto himself, and you will not come,
- 15:32that is evil. Friends. 30 I can of my own self
- 15:38do nothing, as I hear I judge, and my judgment is just because
- 15:44I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which has
- 15:47sent me. This is there's so much rich
- 15:51tapestry in these verses here, friends.
- 15:54Jesus is saying that he only does what the Father wants them
- 15:58to do. They are congruent.
- 15:59They are of 1 accord, friends. 31 If I bear witness of myself,
- 16:05my witness is not true. So he's saying, don't take my
- 16:10word for it. He's saying go to the Father.
- 16:13Look at all the miracles and the works that I've done in the
- 16:16land. They all point to me being the
- 16:20Messiah. 32 There is another that bears witness of me, and I
- 16:27know that the witness which he witnesses of me is true.
- 16:31So he's saying the Holy Spirit and God Almighty, He's saying
- 16:35that everything that he has saying is true and trustworthy,
- 16:39and if we will not believe it, it will result in our damnation.
- 16:43Friends. 33 You sent unto John, and he bore witness unto the
- 16:51truth. So we know that this is John the
- 16:54Baptist that he's talking about, and we're going to see how there
- 17:00is truth. And to the witness there is a
- 17:04myriad there's a fourfold witness to Jesus.
- 17:09The first one is being John the Baptist. 34 But I receive not
- 17:14testimony from man, but these things I say, that you might be
- 17:19saved. 35 He was a burning and shining light, and you were
- 17:25willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
- 17:28So we can see here that when John the Baptist arrived on the
- 17:32scene, they were anticipating A Messiah, and they were all
- 17:38excited that the Messiah could be in their midst.
- 17:41But they were looking for a political ruler.
- 17:45They were looking to get free from the bondage of Rome, not
- 17:49from the bondage of their sin. They weren't looking for their
- 17:52salvation. They were just looking for a
- 17:54military conquer. 36 But I have greater witness than that of
- 18:01John for the works which the Father has given me to finish.
- 18:05The same works that I do bear witness of me that the Father
- 18:10has sent me. So here is the second of the
- 18:13fourfold witness of Jesus Christ.
- 18:16First one was John the Baptist. Then it's the works that he
- 18:20does. 37 And the Father himself which has sent me, has borne
- 18:29witness of me. You have neither heard his voice
- 18:33at any time, nor seen his shape. So we can see here even Father
- 18:39God ABBA bears witness of Jesus Christ, and Jesus is God
- 18:45Incarnate in the flesh, and that is what he's referencing here.
- 18:49He's saying that you have not seen God, but you have seen him.
- 18:53You've seen Jesus 38 and you have not heard His word abiding
- 18:58in you, and you have not his word abiding in you.
- 19:02For from he has sent him you did not believe.
- 19:08So Jesus is saying that I am sent from God and you don't
- 19:11believe me, which shows that you don't actually love God, You
- 19:15don't have God's word abiding in you, and you're only worried
- 19:21about the outward expression of religion.
- 19:25Then he's going to give you the 4th 1 which is the scriptures
- 19:27that bear witness to the Lord Jesus Christ. 39 Search the
- 19:32scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, and
- 19:37they are they which testify of me.
- 19:40Jesus is saying I'm on every page and every syllable, every
- 19:44jot and every title. Jesus is saying that from
- 19:48Genesis to Revelation, it all points to me what a statement of
- 19:54Jesus Christ. He tells you and he tells me,
- 19:57search the scriptures, listen to the word of God, listen to the
- 20:04prophets of old, look at the things that he did and they will
- 20:10all point to the reality that Jesus is Lord. 40 and you will
- 20:18not. Come to me that you might have
- 20:21life. That is the only way we can have
- 20:23life is we must come unto the Father through His Son Jesus
- 20:28Christ. 41 I received not honor for men.
- 20:31He wasn't worried about what people thought about him.
- 20:34He never had to apologize. Friends 42 But I know you that
- 20:39you have not the love of God in you.
- 20:42He says that to us today. He's still saying that to this
- 20:45world. There are so many suit and ties.
- 20:48There are so many benchwarmers. There are so many people who
- 20:53have dusty Bibles and they're not searching the scripture.
- 20:56They don't actually believe. They just don't want to go to
- 20:59hell. And he's saying here, but he
- 21:02knows that the love of God is not in them.
- 21:04They're just self seeking. They are ravenous wolves and
- 21:08sheep's clothing. He knows that the love of God is
- 21:11not in them. 43 I am come in my father's name, and you did not
- 21:17receive me. If another shall come in his own
- 21:20name, you'll receive him. So he's saying, look, he didn't
- 21:26even come trying to be any type. He came lowly as a lowly
- 21:32servant, as a little baby in a Manger from a poor family.
- 21:37He did not come trying to be royalty, that he was all royalty
- 21:42wrapped up friends. He was meek.
- 21:46He had all the power, but he chose to be humble.
- 21:50He was the servant of servants, friends.
- 21:52And he says if he would have came in pomp and circumstance,
- 21:56everyone would have flocked to him.
- 21:58But isn't this the way of God, Friends?
- 22:02It doesn't. God want our worship in truth,
- 22:11not because He makes us to worship Him. 44 How Can you
- 22:18believe which receives honor one of another, and seek not the
- 22:25honor that comes from God only? So he's saying that we will
- 22:31believe on those who demand to be worshipped, but the one who
- 22:36doesn't demand to be worshipped, we don't believe even though
- 22:40he's from God. 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the
- 22:48Father. There is one that accuses you,
- 22:51even Moses, in whom you trust. So he's saying the Scriptures of
- 22:56old that the Jews were holding on to, that the Jews were
- 23:01thinking was the paramount importance.
- 23:06They accuse them because it all pointed to Jesus and they missed
- 23:13it, Friends. 46 For had you believed Moses, you would have
- 23:19believed me, for he wrote of me. 47 But if you believe not his
- 23:27writings, how shall you believe in my words?
- 23:30So we'll in there. But the crux of the situation
- 23:33here, friends, is that the whole Bible, from beginning to end,
- 23:37points to Jesus and the Jews here.
- 23:41They thought that they knew the Scriptures, but what they were
- 23:44really after was greed. And what they were really after
- 23:47was power. And what they were really after
- 23:49was being able to live whatever kind of life they wanted to live
- 23:53and still make it to heaven. And it doesn't work that way.
- 23:57We must come unto the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ.
- 24:02Jesus is our everything. Jesus is the cornerstone.
- 24:05Jesus is what it's all built upon, friends, and you need to
- 24:09build your life upon His words. His words have the supreme
- 24:15importance upon your life. Every single syllable is what we
- 24:20need to be hyper fixated upon friends and we need to be
- 24:25meditating on friends and that is what needs to spring up out
- 24:29of our mouths. Friends is hide His word in your
- 24:32hearts. Friends, from beginning to end,
- 24:35it's all about Jesus. And if it's not that for you,
- 24:41friends, you have to go back to the drawing board.
- 24:44His mercies are new today. Friends, you have one more
- 24:48chance to give your entire life to Him and to not
- 24:54compartmentalize and hold anything back.
- 24:56The lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh and the pride
- 24:59of life is not from God. Friends, we have to let all of
- 25:03those things go and we must walk in the light because He is in
- 25:07the light. I hope you've been blessed by
- 25:09this amazing chapter. We could spend a very long time
- 25:13talking about it. There's a lot more here, but
- 25:17suffice to say Jesus is enough. Love you, praying for you.
- 25:29We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 25:30God bless you.
