- 0:00You are giving people the opportunity to find their own
- 0:04answers, just as I have and connect back in to themself.
- 0:11So what is it that you believe is the way that you get people
- 0:19to kind of reclaim their leadership or, or their, you
- 0:25know, their gift and, and be able to step into the unknown?
- 0:29What is it that helps them to be able to obviously embrace that
- 0:35path? I'm going to say this in all
- 0:40humility, Terry. It's because they trust me.
- 0:46No, I believe that. That we have created an
- 0:50atmosphere where they know that everything we talk about is
- 0:54confidential. They know I hold them capable.
- 1:01I know that they are energetically strong and that
- 1:10they have their own answers. Excellent, excellent.
- 1:17Knowing that and knowing that I'm listening to them, knowing
- 1:24that I care about their success, they know they are in control of
- 1:34the agenda. That feeling that I'm going to
- 1:41hold them, they can't mess up, they can't say anything wrong.
- 1:54Hey, hey, hey. And welcome, welcome Catherine
- 1:58to the Genius Zone. How are you on this fine day?
- 2:04I am just fantastic, Terry. Thank you so much for having me.
- 2:08Now you've got a lot of letters after your name.
- 2:12Would you like to explain? Because we're going to be
- 2:15talking and bringing power to the audience.
- 2:18We're going to be going into leadership to unlock people's
- 2:24confidence. We're going to really dissolve
- 2:28any self doubt that people have. And you're going to do a live
- 2:33demonstration on how to ground a person and really step them into
- 2:40their power. So all that to look forward to,
- 2:43but let's talk about all these letters that are running after
- 2:47your name. It's so interesting.
- 2:51People rarely ask me that question, so thank you for that.
- 2:55I did a doctorate in education at Arizona State University.
- 3:00I have been working in the Canadian Arctic and I wanted a
- 3:04completely different cultural and geographical experience, so
- 3:10that was a wonderful place for me to go.
- 3:12And there were people there that I really wanted to study with.
- 3:15So that was fantastic. And after career teaching and as
- 3:24an administrator in colleges and universities, I pivoted a little
- 3:29bit into coaching. And so I am a certified
- 3:33executive coach and I am certified with the International
- 3:37Coaching Federation as a professional certified coach.
- 3:41I'm also a mentor coach, which means that I work with people
- 3:45who are renewing their certificates with the
- 3:49International Coaching Federation, and we do a lot of
- 3:52work around competencies, around people's mindsets and what
- 3:59they're bringing to coaching. So yeah, that's what the letters
- 4:03mean, and that those are the doors that those letters opened
- 4:06for me. Yeah.
- 4:08And they all lead into this beautiful, expansive, wonderful,
- 4:12empowering service that you do offer to people.
- 4:15Now I'm going to like break the absolute fallacy of what people
- 4:22quite often think and what people expect.
- 4:27And that is that people in high level leadership roles always
- 4:33confident in themself and always feeling like they're in that
- 4:38level of power. And the fact is that some of
- 4:42those leaders and some of those people that are in those roles
- 4:48are actually suffering with deep depreciating elements of
- 4:55themselves. So I'm going to ask a question
- 4:59here. Do you feel that the driver of
- 5:04ambitious people who are up there at the top is that they
- 5:10expect too much of themself and they they're prejudging themself
- 5:15and they're not good enough? Where do you think their lack of
- 5:20self-confidence comes from? Because in the genius zone, and
- 5:26I'm just gonna throw this out there, much of people's power
- 5:32comes from their pain. And the more driven that they
- 5:38are, the more pain they have endured to to be underneath that
- 5:46kind of driving force. So let's breakdown the typical
- 5:52person that you obviously work with in their leadership role
- 5:58and tell me some of the things that go on for them, because
- 6:02obviously even the higher CEOs suffer from lack of confidence.
- 6:09That's such a good point, Terry. And I think it's really
- 6:12important for us, first of all, to recognize no matter where you
- 6:17are in any organization, you have some leadership, you have
- 6:24some responsibility to people around you.
- 6:28You also have the burdens of responsibility.
- 6:36And most of us are extremely judgmental, and many of us are
- 6:44very judgmental of ourselves. We have these voices in our
- 6:48heads that tell us that we're imposters.
- 6:53That will never be good enough. That tell us it doesn't matter
- 6:58how much money we make or What Car we drive or what our address
- 7:03is, There's more. There's always more.
- 7:07And I think over time we realize that that shiny object is always
- 7:13out of reach. It's just a little bit beyond
- 7:17our grasp. I work for people who come to me
- 7:22and say I have my I've met my goals and I'm not happy.
- 7:31There has to be more to life than this.
- 7:35Yeah. And I think when we move to that
- 7:39point that we can really start to unfold what our values really
- 7:47are, what our values are. Not the values of the
- 7:51corporation, not the values of the society around us, but
- 7:56what's really important to us. And once we've clarified that,
- 8:00then maybe it's a harder question.
- 8:04So how do you have to change to live in those values?
- 8:09So if someone says to me that their family is their first
- 8:12priority and I see that they emailed me at 2:00 in the
- 8:17morning or I see that they sent me a text on Saturday, I'm going
- 8:24to be wondering, what's the misalignment here?
- 8:29This is what you're saying, and this is what you're doing.
- 8:33Wow. Yeah, look, in my world,
- 8:36misalignment is the absolute gap in everyone's problem because we
- 8:44don't even know and we don't realise we're doing it.
- 8:47But this is where we come unstuck, isn't it?
- 8:51It's where we're, we're not honouring ourself because we may
- 8:55have our values as family first or those key values of respect
- 9:01or love or connection or whatever it is.
- 9:05But then on the other hand, we may be doing things that
- 9:08completely sabotage that. And then we're wondering why
- 9:13we're we're hitting and missing. And I know a lot of the work
- 9:17that you're doing is really, you're a master of questions and
- 9:22you love to help people to draw their solutions themselves
- 9:28through the questions. And you don't have to give any
- 9:31advice either, which I feel is one of the greatest things in
- 9:35the kind of world we come from, where we don't get burnt out
- 9:40from coaching people because we're not giving them the
- 9:44answers, we're helping them find the answers.
- 9:48And so in a situation where a person has that gap in their
- 9:55leadership, what is the 1st place where you will start with
- 9:59them? Like obviously you said you've
- 10:02emailed me at 2:00 in the morning, you've text me on a
- 10:05Saturday. You know what happens from
- 10:09there? What is the kind of way that you
- 10:11bring them and send to them back or encourage them to find their
- 10:16way? Our conversation would probably
- 10:22start out with, I noticed this, tell me about that e-mail at
- 10:282:00 in the morning. What was happening for you?
- 10:36And they might say, well, I had so many things to do.
- 10:39That was the only time of the day that I could do it.
- 10:41And then I might say, tell me why that's important to you.
- 10:48And let's start to unpack what you feel is really important and
- 10:57why is that important to you. That is so powerful.
- 11:02And where do you want to go with that?
- 11:09And I'm sure everyone can hear these questions.
- 11:12And I know with this kind of powerful questions, it's when
- 11:19we're asking a person, what is it that you truly want?
- 11:24And they may be looking for the love and the connection and the
- 11:29elements that you bring around presents because they are your
- 11:32three key points. And so love, connection and
- 11:37presence to be present in your body to be asking them what is
- 11:42it that you truly want? So many people will talk about
- 11:45what they don't want and what is the conflict that's going on,
- 11:49but when they can really master that one sentence and then, as
- 11:55you say, you are then asking them why?
- 11:59Why is it that you want that? And I know it's a very
- 12:03interesting concept that when you ask them why is that so
- 12:09important, they'll go down certain layers.
- 12:14And then as you ask them, what's so important about that?
- 12:19So for example, it might be important for me to feel
- 12:24respected and appreciated and that might be at the top of my
- 12:30list. But then as we go down into the
- 12:34funnel, so to speak, and we narrow it down at the bottom,
- 12:40what we usually discover as coaches is that what's sitting
- 12:44at the bottom is the pain of what happened and who, where and
- 12:53what happened to create that belief where they didn't feel.
- 12:58So, for example, respected or appreciated.
- 13:03And in that moment, it's kind of like a landing, isn't it?
- 13:07So when you're navigating their discomfort, Catherine, and
- 13:13getting them to step into the unknown.
- 13:15I mean, leaders are usually, they like to be competent.
- 13:19They don't like to have a, to be seen as having a wobble.
- 13:23And God help anyone that might come along and criticize them or
- 13:28get them to fall off their perch.
- 13:32But discomfort, they say when we're uncomfortable, we're
- 13:35growing and we're we're really stretching.
- 13:39What do you think is the reason that a lot of these leaders
- 13:42don't like going into the unknown though?
- 13:47It's frightening. Yeah.
- 13:50It might be uncontrollable, right?
- 13:54It it might challenge the skills that we think we have, we might
- 14:01be a failure. Right.
- 14:04Yes, yes. And so that sense of ourselves
- 14:09as being in control, as being the expert in the room, we might
- 14:16have to question that. And if we're not the expert in
- 14:20the room, who are we? Yeah, yes, yes.
- 14:26And do you encourage them to step into the unknown?
- 14:29Because I know that I myself, I mean, I'm what I do, I can do
- 14:35with my eyes shut and I'm transforming people in my sleep.
- 14:39I believe that leadership has made me weak in some ways in
- 14:46itself. So being a leader like I, I
- 14:49believe I'm the sort of person that came from being an
- 14:53unemployable in the greatest sense possible, a born CEO to
- 14:59the point where being a non conformist and everything else,
- 15:03I was not the person that would just kind of like work in the
- 15:09average and just be status quo. I either excelled and I was like
- 15:14that as a child as well. I excelled and I was up there in
- 15:17the top 5% or I was down there in the bottom 5%.
- 15:23But it comes a point in life when we get challenged and I
- 15:27know as a leader, I'm working in radio at the moment.
- 15:31And that I mean, you've experienced because you and I
- 15:35have had, this is our third time getting together.
- 15:38And I say third time lucky here. And the other two times has been
- 15:45a technical issue. And I become so paralysed by
- 15:51fear through the technology not working and through me not being
- 15:57competent because I'm so used to being competent that I shut
- 16:03down, my brain shuts off. And it's like, I do not want to
- 16:08know about it. I, I don't want to know about it
- 16:11because I don't like making mistakes.
- 16:15But I think because I don't like making mistakes, I make a ton of
- 16:19them and we all make mistakes. It's just the way that we are.
- 16:24And rather than seeing it as growth, I stepping into the
- 16:29unknown it I can say it from me to you like I could be your very
- 16:34best client right here and now. I am so in fear.
- 16:40I am so in fear of that, that kind of difference.
- 16:44And yet I want to do it and I love doing that, but I become in
- 16:50my head and I lose my presence and I know that this is where
- 16:55you come in and I almost zone out.
- 17:00So have you got any advice for me on that?
- 17:05Have some questions? I I have a question.
- 17:09How do you want your body to feel in that circumstance?
- 17:17Exactly what you said as the opposite of why leaders are the
- 17:21way they are when they step into the unknown.
- 17:24I want to feel in control, and I feel completely out of control.
- 17:28But you asked me a question, and I ought to do my very best to
- 17:32answer that in the truth of yeah, I want to feel totally in
- 17:38control, right? So the first place to start is
- 17:41with our bodies. How are you going to feel
- 17:43control in your body? Well, that's a $64 million
- 17:49question right there. How am I going to feel control
- 17:53in my body? It's almost like I did.
- 17:56AI went to a festival of healing the other day and I tell you, I
- 18:00did a workshop and the room was booked out.
- 18:03It was amazing and it was standing room only in the end.
- 18:07But during the course of the day, I decided to have some
- 18:11healing from one of the other coaches.
- 18:13And what they needed to do is they needed to kind of step into
- 18:17my aura. This is bringing me back to the
- 18:20answer to your question. And as they were sort of like
- 18:24doing a scan, if you will. So it's almost a little bit like
- 18:28Reiki, but I feel it's slightly got a little bit more of, I
- 18:32think they're doing a little bit more science and medical
- 18:34intervention behind it. And it's called pragic healing.
- 18:39And so as they zip around your aura and they go right through.
- 18:44And it's interesting what they said because they said that at
- 18:48the moment my head and my gut not connected my head and they
- 18:54picked it up. They said your wisdom, your
- 18:56third eye is absolutely amazing, which it is.
- 18:59My intuition is on steroids. Like I know stuff that I
- 19:03shouldn't know about. And I'm like, Oh my gosh.
- 19:06However, my head and they picked this up is too busy and it's not
- 19:11connecting properly with my body.
- 19:14So I have been asking myself that $64 million question since
- 19:19that festival of healing. What can I do to connect this
- 19:24with the gut and bring it together?
- 19:27And would you have any suggestions for me?
- 19:31Can we try something? I'd love to.
- 19:35I'd like you to put your hand in your heart space and if you feel
- 19:41comfortable, close your eyes and I want you just to start
- 19:46breathing slowly into that heart space and start to feel your
- 19:56heart beating. And maybe just sigh out that
- 20:04breath and take another bigger breath and sigh that out.
- 20:15Now we're going to breathe into that heart.
- 20:21I'd like you to imagine that there's energy there, a little
- 20:27ball of blue energy, and it's starting to spread from your
- 20:33heart all through your body, and it's warming your whole body.
- 20:49We're going to have you take one more breath, breathe it out, and
- 20:57open your eyes. What are you feeling in your
- 21:02body? Wow, yeah, I'm connected.
- 21:05I feel like I'm in my body and yeah, and that, that's amazing.
- 21:12So. Amazing.
- 21:13From where you are now, Terry in that presence had a technical
- 21:21glitch right now. How would you respond from this
- 21:25place where you are now? I know that I would feel calm
- 21:30enough to be able. I think it's a good question
- 21:33because when we're calm and we are in our body, we have more
- 21:40space and almost like we've just got more time with expanded
- 21:45time. And so I would be able to then
- 21:49think more clearly. So that that's a revelation
- 21:52right there because I go into panic mode because I'm living in
- 21:56my head and I'm out of my comfort zone, like doing the
- 22:00technology and stuff like that, especially with radio.
- 22:04So to be able to pull back and do that breath work and really
- 22:11zone into the heart space. And I love the fact that you've
- 22:14brought around this vision of expanding that feeling right
- 22:19through the body. And the automatic thing to
- 22:22answer your question is I would, it's almost like time changes
- 22:27and I would literally end the broadcast and then restart it.
- 22:33Now that would mean that I would be able to have one the chapter
- 22:38that we've done and connect them both together.
- 22:41So that has been done before on the show.
- 22:44It hasn't happened a lot, but it has happened.
- 22:47But I would have the presence of mind to do that.
- 22:50So I think the key is with the work that you're doing, you are
- 22:56giving people the opportunity to find their own answers, just as
- 23:01I have, and connect back in to themself.
- 23:07So what is it that you believe is the way that you get people
- 23:16to kind of reclaim their leadership or their gift and be
- 23:22able to step into the unknown? What is it that helps them to be
- 23:27able to obviously embrace that path?
- 23:33I'm going to say this in all humility, Terry.
- 23:37It's because they trust me. I believe that.
- 23:42That we have created an atmosphere where they know that
- 23:48everything we talk about is confidential.
- 23:52They know I hold them capable. I know that they are
- 23:59energetically strong and that they have their own answers.
- 24:08Excellent. Excellent.
- 24:10Knowing that and knowing that I'm listening to them, knowing
- 24:17that I care about their success, they know they are in control of
- 24:27the agenda, not feeling that I'm going to hold them.
- 24:34They can't mess up. They can't say anything wrong.
- 24:40The hour that we spend together is their time if all they want
- 24:45to do is vent, or if all they wanted to do was sit there for
- 24:49an hour in silence and we look at each other.
- 24:52Line with me. And do you feel that getting
- 24:57them to that level of what you do, because this is what you do
- 25:03where you get them to own their authority and you get them to
- 25:10own their energy and you also get them to own the fact that
- 25:16when they walk into a room, they need to own it.
- 25:21What do you think is the biggest problem?
- 25:25Why they have it? Like what have they been doing?
- 25:29Are they usually walking into a room and shrinking back or
- 25:33hoping that they can just be go Incognito?
- 25:39I would say it's different for different people.
- 25:43Sometimes it's especially for people who are new in a role.
- 25:49They can hardly believe they're in the role and all of the work
- 25:54is just coming at them like a fire hose.
- 25:58And so when, and I'm thinking right now about a conversation I
- 26:03had with a client about exactly this topic, she had been told
- 26:10she needed more executive presence.
- 26:15And so I said, what do you think that is?
- 26:21And so we talked about some of her ideas, and over the course
- 26:26of the conversation, what started to emerge for her was
- 26:32that executive presence was her being true to herself.
- 26:38Right. Oh, that's very powerful.
- 26:43And, and I think that is a journey for people.
- 26:48We're very often not encouraged or not rewarded to be who we
- 26:54are. We're encouraged to be better or
- 26:59smarter or take on more responsibility or charge harder
- 27:08through the politics without really having somebody say to us
- 27:18you're fine, just as you are. You are enough.
- 27:22You are enough. Yeah.
- 27:26And let's think about the strengths.
- 27:29Let's appreciate who you are and what you're bringing.
- 27:33And you're not going to look like the person you succeeded.
- 27:37You might not look like any of your peer leaders at this table.
- 27:43So what are you bringing? That's your gift.
- 27:46What are you bringing that nobody else can bring?
- 27:50And once we establish that there's value there, that helps
- 27:56people shift their perspective on themselves a little bit.
- 28:03Right. Wow, that's incredible.
- 28:07Now you talk about the three keys, which are obviously your
- 28:10values as a person who is really empowering coaches and even high
- 28:18level people that presence, connection and love are three of
- 28:26the cornerstones of your obviously the core of what
- 28:31you're bringing to the table here.
- 28:34Can I ask where those findings came from and how you stumbled
- 28:38over those three powerful keys? Can I tell you a little story?
- 28:47I'd love to hear one. I grew up in a very close knit
- 28:51family and when my parents brought me home from the
- 28:56hospital we were living with my grandfather and my grandfather
- 29:04loved babies and my grandfather was only at home on the
- 29:09weekends. He had employment away from home
- 29:13and so I would be in the baby buggy by the stove.
- 29:18I grew up on a farm. This is a long time ago.
- 29:23And my grandfather would come in and he called me Tutz and he'd
- 29:26say hi Tutz. And I would be waving my arms
- 29:30and my legs and he would come and pick me up.
- 29:34And the family story is that as soon as he got me, he wouldn't
- 29:37put me down. He would eat with one hand so he
- 29:40could hold me. And on Saturday mornings when my
- 29:44mom was trying to clean the house, he'd go along and put my
- 29:47little baby handprint on all the mirrors and all the pictures and
- 29:50everything. And when my mom's sister would
- 29:54come, they would fight over me. So I heard all these stories.
- 30:00I knew that from the moment I came into this world, I was the
- 30:07recipient of unconditional love. Wow.
- 30:12And it's an absolute. That is a first because there's
- 30:16not many people that I get to speak to today that just that
- 30:22story and I'm just visualizing the love and the handprints and
- 30:27the the voice and just the adoration.
- 30:31And that is a absolute rare gem. My husband always had a saying
- 30:37that you cannot give away something you haven't got.
- 30:40And boy oh boy, you certainly have that.
- 30:45Knowing that I think I've, I've been grateful and appreciative
- 30:52of that gift. The reading that I've done, the
- 30:55studies that I've done has really convinced me that we are
- 31:00all connected and that. And I think that when I was
- 31:06working with children, when I was working with young teachers,
- 31:11I used to say to them, you will fall in love with your students.
- 31:17And I even noticed that with my adult students.
- 31:22And Bill Torbert, who Jennifer Garvey Berger started with, he
- 31:27calls it rising to love that we we use our curiosity, we use our
- 31:35sense that people really matter to us to make those connections.
- 31:42And I I think that maybe a shorthand way to say that is
- 31:49that we see and appreciate the human across from us.
- 31:55Does it mean we have to agree on everything?
- 31:57Yeah, yeah. We see that spark.
- 32:03We see that spark in the other person.
- 32:06Yeah. So I love that.
- 32:08So I just want to say that we do in the show notes have
- 32:13Catherine's contact details. So if you are really ready to
- 32:18reconnect with a woman of such fine calibre, that can really
- 32:25bring you into your presence and your connection and yourself
- 32:29love. And of course, there is that
- 32:32element that you bring to the table where I love what you
- 32:36said, that you are enough. And I know the hypnotherapist,
- 32:41Marisa Pierre always says that too.
- 32:44And I'm like, oh, you are enough.
- 32:47I mean, is enough enough sort of thing?
- 32:49It's really it's if the cup is full, the cup is full.
- 32:53There's no point pouring more water into the cup if it's
- 32:59already full to the brim. So if you are enough, you are
- 33:04already full of, you know what you require.
- 33:09And I know that you talked about bringing self trust.
- 33:13And I, I want to conclude with your little special secrets that
- 33:18you're going to do with me anchoring and perhaps asking a
- 33:22question. And I know that for people that
- 33:25are really just wanting to be in that space where they're held,
- 33:30they want to be able to bring themselves into that level of
- 33:35self love, self trust and self worth, then you know, this is
- 33:40your woman. And don't be afraid to step into
- 33:43the unknown because Catherine will absolutely be able to help
- 33:49you to draw yourself trust to be able to step into those spaces
- 33:57knowing that you are becoming a more expanded person.
- 34:01And I think there is a difference of there's a level of
- 34:05discomfort, isn't there? Like I feel a level of
- 34:08discomfort in what I was talking to you about before in radio.
- 34:12I feel a real level of discomfort.
- 34:15But that's not AGPS necessarily saying you're on the wrong path.
- 34:20I think there's a difference, isn't there?
- 34:22When we're off track, like you brought about in the story at
- 34:27the beginning about the person who says that their family
- 34:30values are very important, but then they're making calls at
- 34:343:00 AM texting on a Saturday. But how do we know the
- 34:38difference between being stretched and being able to step
- 34:44into the unknown with confidence to come on?
- 34:49You got to get off this path, you're on the wrong track.
- 34:51Is there a way of knowing the difference?
- 34:55I think one of the questions that we can ask ourselves, or
- 34:58sometimes it's helpful to have someone else ask us what's the
- 35:01worst thing that can happen? If the worst thing that can
- 35:06happen is that you have to record someone in two different
- 35:12times and splice the conversation together, nobody
- 35:18will know the difference. If the worst thing that can
- 35:22happen is that you betray a friend, or that you don't live
- 35:27up to your own ideals, maybe that's a clue that you're not in
- 35:33the right place. Oh, so let me just open that up
- 35:38for a SEC. There's a difference there.
- 35:40And you've gone down the path of if you're breaching your own
- 35:46morals and values as a person and it's causing you to, I guess
- 35:53almost, what's the word where you're almost sabotaging
- 35:56yourself, sabotaging who you are as a person.
- 35:59So if it's kind of bringing out a bad person in you, is that
- 36:04kind of what you're saying? And I think that is the
- 36:07question, Terry, who do you want to be?
- 36:11Yeah. Who do you want to be and what
- 36:17would it take for you to be that person from where you are now?
- 36:24Beautiful question. Beautiful question.
- 36:28And remember that a single coaching conversation can have
- 36:34some transformational moments, but most of us have a lot of
- 36:41work to do. Oh, absolutely.
- 36:44And if that gets to the point where I know I asked myself a
- 36:48question and it probably wasn't a a great question in terms of
- 36:54what happened in my life after, but where I am now, that tells a
- 36:58different story. But I went through this point of
- 37:02when my late husband, he'd first, he'd brought me into the
- 37:06world of neuro linguistic programming.
- 37:08And I give all thanks to him today for that.
- 37:12And I transformed my life so incredibly.
- 37:16And I sailed along, living very comfortably.
- 37:19And we had a very successful clinic and we just moved along.
- 37:24And you, you just, you don't know what you don't know, right
- 37:27until you know something else. And then of course, I came into
- 37:30the online space and found that because of the technology.
- 37:34And that was a challenge. And so hang on a minute.
- 37:36My, my Angel wings or my Halo got a bit of a dent.
- 37:41It was really testing me for who I was.
- 37:44And then as I was building my business online, I asked myself
- 37:49the question, what is my next level?
- 37:51Because I also knew that new level, new devil sort of thing
- 37:57and that you're going to have to face something.
- 37:59And boy, oh boy, that was a question that opened up a huge
- 38:03element for me because that sort of took me into that next level
- 38:08of the challenges that I had through my husband's illness and
- 38:14then having my values really challenged where I then
- 38:20literally about faced and devoted my whole life to him.
- 38:26And of course he passed away from CJD, which is a very rare,
- 38:31always fatal disease of a degenerative type where the
- 38:35prions fold. And in the whole experience was
- 38:41supposed to happen. And whilst I thought in those
- 38:45little moments that maybe this is challenging me and this is
- 38:50going to wear everything ends for me in my coaching career
- 38:53because now I'm dedicated to my husband, it's actually taken me
- 38:58to the next level now and I'm actually living his legacy.
- 39:02He always said to me, you need to go out there and you need to
- 39:05work with the world. You need to do this
- 39:06transformational stuff. And that's what keeps me just,
- 39:10yeah, I cannot agree more with what you're everything you're
- 39:16saying. And I guess that probably leads
- 39:19you to your secrets with me now. I, I just want to say, first of
- 39:23all, Terry, I'm so sorry that you had to go through that
- 39:29mourning and grieving. And what I'm hearing you say
- 39:34right now is that life is for the living.
- 39:38Yeah, absolutely. Oh, wow, that's profound.
- 39:45Yes, life is for living and for the living.
- 39:48And in some ways, and I know you've recently had a guest on
- 39:53talking about grief, but sometimes I think grief can
- 39:58sharpen our presence. It can sharpen our connection.
- 40:04It it makes us think and rethink what love is.
- 40:12And from what you've shared, it increased your capacity to deal
- 40:20with, to deal with new opportunities.
- 40:24So instead of. Limiting you or putting you into
- 40:31a dark space that that I'm sure you were in, but you also began
- 40:40to see that little spark of light.
- 40:44Yes. And it's that little spark of
- 40:47light that I think is so important.
- 40:51Whether we're leaders, whether we've lost our most important
- 40:54loved one, whether we're living through some sort of natural
- 41:00cataclysm. Yes, we will be undone.
- 41:05Yes, we will be in a place of uncertainty and instability.
- 41:14And we will move through that. Wow.
- 41:18And this too shall pass. You know that.
- 41:23So that ancient wisdom is, I think, available to all of us
- 41:31when we are able to be centered and we are able to find even 5
- 41:40or 10 minutes of silence and space and just to be with
- 41:46ourselves. That's so important.
- 41:50Wow, that's powerful. That is so powerful.
- 41:54I know that you've just spoken into my life, and if that's what
- 41:59you're doing to every other client, I can only just say
- 42:03that, OK, I've been blessed by hearing your words.
- 42:08And there was no advice given either.
- 42:10It was a beautiful way of helping me to see things in a
- 42:17way that you had heard and coming from a different also
- 42:22perspective, which is absolutely beautiful.
- 42:24I just want to say, look, I love to ask this question, but what
- 42:28is the one thing you'd love to share before we conclude here?
- 42:31Today. So first of all, I just want to
- 42:37make sure, Terry, do you have everything you need?
- 42:39Do you need to take a little deep breath or just shut your
- 42:42eyes for a minute before we start?
- 42:45I'm absolutely feeling good. Right.
- 42:48We're now with you. So I'm very curious to know, can
- 42:54you share with me one wonderful thing that's happened to you
- 42:57this week? I have been blessed with this
- 43:04incredible, I don't know, almost the ability that I feel came
- 43:10from the crisis of my husband being an advocate.
- 43:16And I have just been informed that I will be supported.
- 43:25I've come into a windfall, if you will, through my own
- 43:30personal advocation of and it's not about the money either, but
- 43:36it's about the fact of where that leads me to freedom.
- 43:41Money suddenly has changed forms.
- 43:46I've been in a very wealthy position and I am a wealthy
- 43:50person. But to put it into the context,
- 43:54when you lose your significant other and they have been a
- 43:58really good provider, that can create a bit of a wobble.
- 44:04And so hearing that, I feel that I'm really deeply supported.
- 44:12I can't even express the amount of gratitude that I have to God
- 44:18for the support that has come through.
- 44:21And I say that with that abundance of finance that's been
- 44:25able to really just expand me into being present rather than
- 44:31being in a position of, Oh my gosh, looking for where my next,
- 44:37you know, what I'm going to do next.
- 44:39So I'm very grateful for that. A word that just really popped
- 44:44out at me that you used was freedom, and I'm wondering
- 44:48what's important about that sense of freedom to you.
- 44:54That brought a beautiful deep breath to my whole existence.
- 44:58It is the pleasure of being who I am in my entirety, without
- 45:06having to be anything else. And when you are that whole
- 45:13person, what's important about that?
- 45:19That just that's my life force. I I feel it's just dropped, but
- 45:25I'm doing I've got a master key, one of billion dollar energy and
- 45:29I know that is something that is a gift.
- 45:34I feel that energy is a gift to me and I feel that brings my
- 45:39life force and really expands it.
- 45:42So having that kind of energy and to be really, when I look at
- 45:47it, go into that question more deeply, it's not just about me
- 45:51because it would be very boring if it was just about me.
- 45:54It's about the bigger picture of what that means to what I can do
- 46:00for the world and what I can do for others.
- 46:02So that it almost allows me to come into my gift, into what I'm
- 46:08doing like here and now. Yes.
- 46:12So, Terry, as we finish our conversation, what's going to
- 46:16help you continue to feel that gratitude for that gift and that
- 46:21influence that you can share? The word that popped into my
- 46:27head was integration, because it's something that I have not
- 46:31ever been good at. I've been a person who runs and
- 46:35I run 1000 miles an hour and I don't look back, don't give
- 46:40myself time to go, hang on a minute.
- 46:42Boom, I have just achieved this and I've achieved this and I've
- 46:47achieved this, so nothing's ever enough.
- 46:52So it gives me the gift of integrating what and where I am
- 47:00and all the things that I have achieved, rather than looking
- 47:03out for all the mistakes that I'm making and stepping into the
- 47:06fear of the unknown. Terry, how would you like to
- 47:11close off our session today? I would like to close off this
- 47:15session by thanking you enormously for your generosity,
- 47:20and I also want to bring something else to the table too.
- 47:23You are one of the most gracious coaches, healers and leaders
- 47:28that I have personally worked with.
- 47:31And I say that because we have had numerous issues leading up
- 47:38and you haven't once come unstuck about any of that.
- 47:43Had a person that and this is a them problem.
- 47:46And I don't hear me saying anything wrong, but there was 1
- 47:49little thing where they hadn't booked and they've done
- 47:53something and it doesn't matter because it's, it's really not a
- 47:56big problem. And they decided that they
- 47:59didn't even want to go ahead with the podcast.
- 48:01So they kind of, it's almost like it was a self sabotaging
- 48:05way for themselves to just quickly get out of it.
- 48:08And I think a lot of this is the thing that happens a lot of the
- 48:11time when we're getting afflicted.
- 48:14We're not really thinking about what's that person going through
- 48:18because it's not really about the attack.
- 48:21It's about where they are, and what you have shown to me is
- 48:27very, very much of grace. So I just want to thank you so
- 48:34much for the grace that you've brought and the wisdom that
- 48:37you've brought to the table. And you have certainly,
- 48:41absolutely made my day. It's been a lovely conversation,
- 48:45Terry. Thank you so much.
- 48:48Thank you, Catherine. And that's it for the Genius
